Put a ring on it. The verbiage to our title was made famous by Queen B, 01:52 better known to some as Beyonce. For those of you that didn't know, I'm told that "Put a Ring on It" or "Single Ladies" 02:07 is an R&B song that explores the unwillingness of men to propose in marriage to women. In this song, I'm told-- 02:39 Her former lover is also in this club, but the relationship ended because of the man's unwillingness to commit. 02:50 But now he sees another man pushing up or making advances to his ex-lady, and he's mad. You know, it's a classic example 03:29 then you should've put a ring on it." [Aud. reaction] 03:42 you should have made a covenant. If you liked it, you should have made a promise. If you liked it, you should have made a pledge. 03:48 If you liked it, you should have put a ring on it. Now, today I'm not here to evaluate Beyonce or this song. Neither am I here to 03:59 get into a debate about wedding rings or wedding bands. Come on, say amen. Aud.: Amen. 04:03 But I am here to talk to you today about marriage, but the marriage I have in mind is not your marriage or my marriage. 04:39 reception for people who didn't show up. [Aud. reaction] 05:43 marriage. 07:20 it talks about three stages in relationships. The first stage is the romance stage. Everybody say romance. Aud.: Romance. 07:28 And we all like this stage. You go out to dinner, you go out on dates, you buy flowers, you buy gifts, you scratch his back, 07:41 he massages and rubs your toes. This is the romance stage. Everything is hunky dory. Everything is peaches and cream. 07:53 But then there's the problem stage. Everybody say problem. Aud.: Problem. 08:29 But do we do. We enjoy the romance stage, but as soon as we run into problems, we dance away and find another lover. Is that, 08:58 The music was good. The teaching was good. The sermon was good. But then we go to the problem stage. I have to give money? 09:57 I'm committed, in spite of. I'm committed, anyhow. I'm not going anywhere because I'm going to have problems everywhere. Why? 10:36 things. 11:06 forever. 11:15 friends. 11:27 where you are today. 11:47 give. 12:56 each other's company. 13:09 don't know 13:21 actions. So they say 13:29 but when they 13:42 want to know your thoughts, 13:51 ring on it? 14:00 investments of time, 14:16 doesn't work 15:00 more than you could ever give. [Aud. reaction] 15:11 the Church, 15:20 singing, 15:30 yourself and 16:15 any church. 16:25 asked why, 16:32 married to Christ, 16:42 Bridegroom, 16:56 gave His life for you 17:07 and for me. He made it clear, He's not going anywhere. [Aud. reaction] 17:32 but it's what Jesus died for. 17:45 Every day someone's asking the same question, is God hiding his face from our problems? 17:51 Why do bad things happen to good people?
