A story is told. A true story.
Having served for decades in the

continent of Africa, a
missionary couple was returning
to the state and the city of New

York to retire. After years of
service they had, however, no
pension and their health was

failing. They were worried and
discouraged. What was now going
to happen to them, with no
00:01:36.66\00:01:41.10
pension? On their return to the
United States they were on the
same ship as President Teddy

Roosevelt. Because back in those
days, they didn't fly, but they
took boats, they took ships,

as they went from country to
country. They were on the same
ship, the same boat,

as President Teddy Roosevelt who
was returning from one of his
African hunting expeditions.

Now, nobody on this ship was
paying attention to the
missionary couple. But they

watched the fanfare that
accompanied President Roosevelt
and his entourage. During the

voyage, the missionary said to
his wife, "Baby, something is
wrong. We have given our lives
00:02:16.93\00:02:24.50
to God in service there in
Africa all these years, and
nobody even cares a thing about
00:02:24.50\00:02:33.16
us. But then, this man,
President Roosevelt, comes back
from a hunting trip and
00:02:33.16\00:02:43.06
everybody makes much over him.
But nobody could care less about
us." When the ship docked in New
00:02:43.06\00:02:53.76
York, a band was waiting to
greet President Roosevelt. The
mayor and other dignitaries were

there. The papers were full of
news of the President's arrival,
but nobody was there for the

missionary couple. Nobody was
there to say thank you for what
you've done, thank you for all

the work you've labored for
there in Africa. But everybody
was there to greet the
00:03:11.93\00:03:20.30
President. So this couple
slipped off the ship and found a
cheap flat, an apartment, there
00:03:20.30\00:03:26.23
on the east side of New York,
hoping the next day to see what
they could do to make a living

in the city. That night, the man
said to his wife, "Baby, I can't
take this. God is not treating
00:03:36.13\00:03:43.10
us fairly." His wife replied,
"Well, if you feel that way, why
don't you go into the other room

and have a talk with the Lord?"
The man did that and he returned
a short time later. But when he
00:03:50.36\00:03:57.13
came back, he was different. His
countenance was different. His
wife said, "What happened? Why

are you looking different? Why
are you looking better now?" He
said, "Well, the Lord settled it

with me. I told Him how I was
bitter that the President should
receive this big homecoming,

this big fanfare, this
tremendous homecoming, when no
one even met us at the dock. And

after I finished complaining, it
seems as though the Lord put his
hand on my shoulder. And the

Lord said to me, 'But you're not
home yet.' It then dawned on
me," he said, "that this earth

is not my final home. That this
earth is temporary. Because eyes
have not seen, neither ears

heard the things that God has
prepared for them that love
Him." This Bible that we have is

full of wonderful promises, but
friends, perhaps the most
wonderful promise of all is that

one day, one day, we're going to
live with Jesus forever and ever
and ever. Do I have a witness in

this place? Because at His first
coming, He came to this earth,
Jesus did, as a baby, to save

His people. At His second
coming, Jesus is coming back to
this earth to get His people so
00:05:24.90\00:05:30.43
they can live with Him in heaven
for 1,000 years. But at His
third coming, at the end of the
00:05:30.43\00:05:37.20
millennium, at the end of the
1,000 years, after the righteous
have reigned and lived with
00:05:37.20\00:05:44.73
Christ. At His third coming,
Jesus is coming back to this
earth with His people. The text
00:05:44.73\00:05:52.63
says, "And I saw a new heaven. I
saw a new earth. For the first
heaven and the first earth were
00:05:52.63\00:05:59.70
passed away. There was no more
sin." He says, John does, "I,
John, saw the holy city, the New
00:05:59.70\00:06:11.50
Jerusalem, coming down from God
out of heaven, prepared as a
bride adorned for her husband."

Now quickly, human history began
in Paradise. The Garden of Eden.
Human history will end in

Paradise, the New Jerusalem.
What began in Genesis is brought
to completion in Revelation. God

says, "I am Alpha, the Omega,
the beginning, the end, the
first and the last." Let me see

if I can help make sense out of
all of this to you, 'cause
you're still not getting it.

Genesis, Revelation. In Genesis
1:1, the heavens and earth were
created. In Genesis 21:1, the

new heavens and the new earth
were instituted. In Genesis
1:10, the sun was created. The

seas were created. But in
Genesis 21:1, there are no more
seas. Why are there more seas?

Because the Tree of Life will be
restored with water that flows
from the throne of God. You see,

friends, it didn't rain in the
Garden of Eden. Plants were
watered from beneath the earth.

The water in the Garden of Eden
flowed out of rivers. This river
that flows from the throne of

God is the same water that Jesus
told the woman at the well that
if she drank it, she'd never

thirst again. In Genesis 1:26,
the sun and the moon were
created, but in Revelation

21:23, there is no need for the
sun or the moon because there is
no day nor night. But there's

just one eternal day. Because
the glory of God illuminates the
New Jerusalem. Its lamp will be

the Lamb, Jesus Christ, who is
the Light and does always with
all darkness. In Genesis 3, 14

through 17, man is cursed. Woman
is cursed. The serpent is
cursed. The ground is cursed.

But in Revelation 22:3, there is
no more curse. In Genesis 3:17,
sorrow and pain begin. But in

Revelation 21:4, there are no
more tears. No more pain. In
Genesis 3:19, death enters human

history, but in Revelation 21:4
there is no more death. In
Genesis 3:24, man is driven from

Paradise, but in Revelation
22:14, man is returned to
Paradise. I don't know about

going to heaven. I don't know
about you, but I'm looking

don't know about you, but I'm
looking forward to no more car

more sickness, no more pain, no
more cancer, no more arthritis,

no more diabetes, no more Ebola,
no more Isis, no more death. Is
there anybody outside of me

so much that could be said about

heaven, but quickly I'm just
going to say this: Heaven is a
real place. Heaven is a real

place. Don't you let these
atheists and evolutionists get
the best of you. Heaven is a

real place. Because why would
God take all the time and the
trouble to create a new heaven

and a new earth if there was no
going to be anyone to live on
it? Heaven will be Eden

restored. The day will come when
the original Paradise that God
intended for us to be a part of

will be restored. Adam and Eve
were not placed on a cloud, but
they were placed on the earth.

The New Jerusalem is not a cloud
floating in space, but the New
Jerusalem comes down to planet

earth. Jesus said, "Let not your
heart be troubled. Ye believe in
God, believe also in Me. I go to

prepare a place for you, and if
I go and prepare a place," He
says, "I will come again."

Heaven is a real place. Now, in
the text Jesus doesn't go into a
lot of details about describing

heaven, like John does in
Revelation 21. But Jesus did say
that heaven was a place where He

was going. That heaven would be
a place where He would return.
That heaven was a place to which
00:10:36.16\00:10:43.03
He would one day take all the
redeemed. Heaven is a real
place. It is not some fictitious
00:10:43.03\00:10:48.86
façade. It is not some
imaginative island. Heaven is
not some pretended place, but
00:10:48.86\00:10:53.80
heaven is a real place. It was
Jesus who said in John 6:38 that
He came down from heaven. It was

Jesus who taught his disciples,
"Our Father, which art in
heaven." Hebrews tells us, in

Hebrews 8, that Jesus is seated
at the right hand of the Father,
which is in heaven. Luke writes

about Jesus' ascension, saying
that Jesus was carried up into
heaven. Even God Himself, in 2

Chronicles 7:14 says, "If my
people who are called by my name
would humble themselves and

pray, seek my face and turn from
their wicked ways, then will I
hear from heaven." Heaven is not
00:11:27.36\00:11:33.06
simply a state of mind. Heaven
is not an imaginary pie in the
sky for those who are
00:11:33.06\00:11:37.96
weak-minded, but heaven is a
real place, friends. But what
the devil is, is a lie. The
00:11:37.96\00:11:44.73
devil wants you to think that
heaven is not real. That heaven
is false, that heaven is fake,

that heaven is phony, that's
it's forged, that it's a fraud.
And of course, Satan would want
00:11:50.93\00:11:58.66
you to believe this because
heaven used to be Satan's home.
And because Satan was evicted

from his home in heaven, the
devil is not only bitter towards
God, but the devil is bitter

toward us and bitter toward that
place that is no longer his.
Don't you know today that Satan
00:12:08.93\00:12:15.70
is mad because we, God's people,
are entitled to the home, the
place where he was kicked out of
00:12:15.70\00:12:22.66
in the first place. So what
better way for Satan and his
demons to attack than to whisper
00:12:22.66\00:12:29.76
lies about the very place God
tells us to set our hearts and
minds towards. This is the
00:12:29.76\00:12:34.33
philosophy. Some of you know it.
If I can't have it, then you
can't either. You know what I'm
00:12:34.33\00:12:38.56
talking about. Some young people
date and you say, if I can't
have him, she can't either. If I
00:12:38.56\00:12:43.40
can't have the job, he can't
either. That's the same
philosophy. If I can't have the
00:12:43.40\00:12:48.20
house, you can't either. If I
can't have the mansion, you
can't either. If I can't have
00:12:48.20\00:12:55.46
happiness, then you can't
either. If I can't have joy,
then you can't either. If I
00:12:55.46\00:13:01.30
can't have walls of jasper and
streets of gold, then you can't
either. That's what the devil
00:13:01.30\00:13:06.70
tries to throw our way, but the
devil is a lie. Because heaven
is a place. It's a real place.

But not only is it a real place,
heaven is a prepared place.
Jesus says in the text, "I go to

prepare a place for you that
where I am, there ye may be
also." So, heaven is a place, a

real place, but it's also a
prepared place. Don't you
realize, friends, that's a
00:13:31.90\00:13:37.96
compliment to us. Jesus wants to
be with us. Jesus, the carpenter
of Nazareth, Jesus the healer of

all diseases, Jesus the Savior
of the whole world, Jesus the
creator of the universe has a

place just for us. You see, if
you're going on a trip, you make
arrangements before you go. Most

people today don't just go
anywhere and show up. But you
call the hotel, you call the

folk you're supposed to be
staying with, you make sure that
preparation is made before you
00:14:10.26\00:14:18.50
go. You don't go anywhere these
days unprepared. You prepare
before you go. Jesus said, "I
00:14:18.50\00:14:25.43
have gone to prepare a place for
you." The meaning of this text
is clear. Christ has gone before
00:14:25.43\00:14:32.43
us to prepare a place for us in
heaven. Heaven is a prepared
place. If God could create
00:14:32.43\00:14:40.50
beauty here, just think what
heaven's going to be like. [Aud.
reaction] If God has beautiful
00:14:40.50\00:14:47.60
beaches here, imagine what
heaven's going to be like. If
God has wonderful palm trees
00:14:47.60\00:14:54.26
here, imagine what heaven is
going to be like. If God has
clear water and pink sand here,
00:14:54.26\00:14:59.63
imagine what heaven is going to
be like. If God has sweet
mangoes here, imagine what
00:14:59.63\00:15:07.20
heaven is going to be like. If
God has delicious pineapples
here, imagine what heaven is
00:15:07.20\00:15:15.23
going to be like. If God has
collard greens, cornbread,
macaroni and cheese and fri'
00:15:15.23\00:15:21.40
chik here, imagine what heaven's
going to be like. If God has
rice and peas, peas and rice,

aki and salt fish here, imagine
what God's going to have in
heaven. John says in Revelation

21 that there are 12 gates to
the city. Three gates to the
north, three gates to the south,

three gates to the east, three
gates to the west. It's a
prepared place. The walls are
00:15:43.56\00:15:48.73
walls of jasper, gates of pearl,
streets of gold. Notice, not
silver, but gold. Think about
00:15:48.73\00:15:57.90
it, study your Bibles. We just
get caught up on streets of
gold, but study your Bibles. The
00:15:57.90\00:16:03.76
Bible makes no mention of silver
in the New Jerusalem, because
silver means redemption, and
00:16:03.76\00:16:11.93
because we've already been
redeemed, there's no need for
silver. But there is a need for
00:16:11.93\00:16:18.16
gold. Are you hearing what I'm
saying? But then, John also
says, and I like this in
00:16:18.16\00:16:29.46
Revelation 21:27. He says, "And
there shall in no wise enter in
to it anything that defileth,
00:16:29.46\00:16:34.53
neither whatsoever worketh
abomination or maketh a lie, but
they which are written in the
00:16:34.53\00:16:39.63
Lamb's book of life. This means
heaven is a prepared place. But
heaven is a holy place. Heaven
00:16:39.63\00:16:47.00
is a true place of true worship.
There will be no evil in heaven.
The residents are the redeemed.

Those washed in the blood of the
Lamb, those made righteous in
Christ Jesus, whose names have

been written in the Lamb's book
of life, assuring us that Jesus
knows each resident personally.

Which means, when we get to
heaven you won't just be a
number. But Jesus knows you by

name. If He can know the hairs
on your heads, surely He can
know you by name. Heaven is a

no more death, no more sorrow,
no more crying, no more pain, no

more sinners, no more fear, no
more sun, no more moon, no more
night, no more evil, no more

curse. Unending fellowship with
God. Unending waters of life.

Unimaginable beauty,
uncompromised security, unbroken
unity between believers,

size, untold wealth, unending
light, unrestricted access,

service, unending rain. Heaven
is a prepared place. But not

only is it a place, a real
place; not only is it a prepared
place, but heaven is a prepared

place for prepared people. The
only folk that are going to be
able to experience the joys of
00:18:23.06\00:18:29.56
heaven are those who have made
Jesus their personal Savior. The
only people who will have
00:18:29.56\00:18:37.06
citizenship in heaven are those
who have accepted Jesus'
sacrifice on Calvary for our
00:18:37.06\00:18:45.90
sins. The only people who will
have everlasting communion with
Jesus in heaven will be those,
00:18:45.90\00:18:51.40
according to Revelation 22:14,
that have done His commandments.
You've got to want to go to
00:18:51.40\00:18:57.66
heaven. Every day someone's
asking the same question. Is God
hiding His face from our
00:18:57.66\00:19:04.86
problems? Why do bad things
happen to good people? Does God
really hold my destiny in His
00:19:04.86\00:19:13.66

heaven. I say it all the time,
heaven is not a fire escape from

hell. You've got to want to go
to heaven, because heaven is a
prepared place for prepared

people. The man who expects to
go to heaven must take the time
to study the route that's going

to get him there. If you wish to
dwell in the house of many
mansions, you must make your

reservations, friends, in
advance. You've got to want to
go to heaven. You've got to

prepare to get to heaven. Heaven
is not a default destination. No

automatically. Just because you
sit up in Oakwood every Sabbath
does not guarantee you a
00:20:25.96\00:20:30.36
first-class ticket into heaven.
Unless our sin problem is
resolved, the only place we will
00:20:30.36\00:20:36.70
go is our true default
destination: hell. [Aud.
reaction] Just as heaven is a
00:20:36.70\00:20:42.60
real place, hell is a real
place. Heaven is a prepared
place one gets to heaven for
00:20:42.60\00:20:51.20
God's prepared people; hell is a
prepared place for the devil and
his angels. But when Jesus comes
00:20:51.20\00:21:00.46
again, God's people will be
judged and then they will enjoy
eternity with God in heaven.

Unbelievers will also be judged,
but they will spend eternity in
hell. Heaven is a prepared

place, but hell is a prepared
place, too. Not every road leads
to heaven. Matthew 7 is clear.

It speaks of two roads. One is
straight and narrow, one is
broad and wide. Christian

philosopher Peter Kreeft says,
"If all roads lead to the same
place, then it makes no ultimate

difference what choice we make.
Our spiritual beliefs," he says,
"end up being no more

significant than ice cream
flavor. They become strictly a
matter of personal preference."

Heaven is a prepared place for a
prepared people. Here is the
patience of the saints. Here are

they that keep the commandments
of God and have the testimony of
Jesus Christ. Do not subscribe

to universalism, the belief that
claims that religion is a
universal human quality. For all
00:22:12.03\00:22:19.96
people to ultimately end up in
heaven, listen to me, would mean
God would have to force some
00:22:19.96\00:22:26.93
people to be there. Everybody
does not want to go to heaven.
Everybody talking about heaven
00:22:26.93\00:22:32.56
ain't going. Everybody doesn't
want to be prepared. God does
not force us to do anything. God
00:22:32.56\00:22:38.13
has given us the freedom of
choice. God has given us the
freedom to reject His plan, the
00:22:38.13\00:22:44.56
freedom to spurn His love, the
freedom to reject His offer of
heaven. God didn't have to give
00:22:44.56\00:22:51.80
us that freedom. In fact, God
could have overridden our
freedom at any time. God's given
00:22:51.80\00:22:59.63
us this freedom anyway. Why? Why
would God want to force somebody
to be somewhere they don't want

to be? If you're somewhere you
don't want to be, you're
miserable. And you make
00:23:06.73\00:23:13.70
everybody else around you
miserable. So if everyone
ultimately ended up in heaven,

God would have to overpower some
people's will and force them to
be somewhere they wouldn't want
00:23:16.76\00:23:20.70
to be. If everybody ended up in
heaven--and I don't want you to
misunderstand me, because God

wants everybody in heaven. He's
not willing that anybody should
perish, but God wants to call

everybody to repentance. But if
everybody ended up in heaven,
including people that didn't

want to be there, then heaven
would be just as bad as earth.
Universalism denies humanity the

right to say no to God, which
goes against the power of
choice. Which goes against the
00:23:54.60\00:24:05.46
character of our God. You've got
to want to go to heaven. Heaven
is a prepared place for a
00:24:05.46\00:24:12.26
prepared people.And so, I'll
close with this story. The story
is told of a young pastor whose
00:24:12.26\00:24:19.50
son was very sick and not
expected to live long. Night
after night the pastor and his
00:24:19.50\00:24:29.90
wife would put their boy to bed,
and because he was terminally
ill they would say a prayer,
00:24:29.90\00:24:35.56
hoping for a miracle. One night
the little boy looked up at his
daddy. He said, "Daddy, what
00:24:35.56\00:24:43.93
does it feel like to die?" The
father, sobbing in his heart
because he didn't want his son
00:24:43.93\00:24:50.56
to see him crying, struggled to
answer his son. So he said a
quick word of courage in his
00:24:50.56\00:25:01.30
mind, put his hand on the face
of his child, and he looked down
