00:02 (Theme Song) Jesus is worthy
00:11 oh yes, he's worthy worthy of all... 00:18 all the praise [music] 00:21 Pastor Byrd: If you have your Bibles, turn with me 00:22 to the book of Matthew, chapter 27, verse number 41. 00:30 Matthew chapter 27 in verse number 41, the Word of God 00:33 says "Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, 00:39 with the scribes and elders said "He saved others; 00:45 himself he cannot save. 00:46 If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from 00:52 the cross, and we will believe him. 00:56 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will 01:03 have him: for he said, I am the Son of God." 01:11 Today, my question to you is: was He who He said He was? 01:14 Was He who He said He was? 01:18 God, right now, breathe in this place. 01:27 May your Holy Ghost not only breathe in this place, 01:29 but breathe over the television air waves. 01:33 Breathe in the homes of individuals 01:35 over the Internet, and may Your glory be revealed. 01:38 God, we be careful to praise You for what You're going 01:41 to do. 01:42 Forgive me of my sins, in Jesus name. 01:45 Let everyone say amen. 01:46 Aud: Amen. 01:47 PB: And amen. 01:48 Was He who He said He was. 01:54 I love sports. 01:57 I'm a sports fanatic. 01:59 You name the sport, I love the sport. 02:05 Basketball, football, baseball, softball, 02:12 volleyball, soccer, I love sports. 02:19 Not only do I love sports, but I love watching sports. 02:23 I love playing sports. 02:26 I love talking about sports, I love sports. 02:31 I must admit today I even love the trash talking in sports. 02:36 I love the taunting in sports, because if an athlete 02:43 isn't confident in his or her abilities, then why should 02:46 somebody else be confident in their abilities? 02:49 Some have said that Muhammad Ali was the master of talking 02:55 trash and taunting in sports. 02:58 He would taunt his opponent before the boxing match, 03:03 during the boxing match and after the boxing match. 03:08 You all know his lines: Who's the greatest? 03:12 I am the greatest, because I can float like 03:18 a butterfly. Sting like a bee. 03:23 Your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see. 03:29 Then there was the famous Dikembe Mutumbo. 03:33 NBA player, shot blocker, phenom. 03:37 After blocking a shot, he would take his infamous 03:41 finger and he would look at his opponent and he would say, 03:44 "No, no, no. 03:45 Don't bring that up in here." 03:47 The taunting got so bad he started receiving technical 03:51 fouls for his taunting. 03:53 So now he had to modify his taunting. 03:56 He couldn't look his opponent in the face and say "No, no, 03:59 no, not here." 04:00 But he had to turn to the crowd and say, "No, no, no, 04:03 not here." 04:04 But then, because we're in 04:06 the 21st century, my boy, LeBron James. 04:08 You know if something with King James goes through 04:11 the air and he dunks on somebody, 04:14 like he scored 61 points this week, do I have 04:17 a witness in this place? 04:18 [Aud. reaction] PB: When he dunks on 04:20 somebody, he has this creative ability to look them and stare 04:24 them down, straight in the eye, and he taunts them 04:29 as if to say, "Yeah, I did it. 04:32 And what you gonna do about it?" 04:36 Well, many people like taunting, trash talking. 04:39 Nobody likes to be the victim of taunting. 04:42 Nobody likes to be ridiculed, embarrassed or mocked. 04:48 But to be taunted while you're dying in the worst. 04:53 To be taunted while you're helpless is torture. 04:58 To be taunted while you're powerless is torment. 05:02 But then, as I've learned over the years, there are some 05:05 people who enjoy kicking other people when they're down. 05:09 I mean, after all, we love wounding our already wounded 05:13 soldiers. 05:14 Can you hear Jesus' opponents? 05:18 "He saved others, let him save himself. 05:22 If he is the King of Israel, let him come down from 05:25 the cross and we'll believe then. 05:28 He trusted in God, let God deliver him now. 05:32 After all, he said, I am the Son of God. 05:37 He claimed to be a worker of miracles. 05:41 He claimed to be the Son of God." 05:44 But is He who He said He was? 05:47 Because even if he had a father at all, would a father 05:50 leave a man that really trusted in him and let him die 05:53 like this? 05:54 Why would God the Father permit the Messiah to suffer 06:00 as Jesus was suffering? 06:02 Failure to come down from the cross 06:04 would then be proof that Jesus deserved the fate that had 06:06 overtaken Him. 06:07 Failure to come down from the cross would be proof that 06:10 Jesus was not who He claimed to be. 06:14 So, was He who He said He Was? 06:19 They had seen Jesus by His word, calm the Sea of Galilee. 06:24 They had seen Jesus by His word hush boisterous winds. 06:29 They had seen Jesus multiply bread. 06:32 They had seen Jesus turn water into wine. 06:35 They had seen Jesus speak to the dead, 06:37 and out of the grave came the dead stumbling, 06:40 knotted in grave clothes. 06:43 But now go with me to Calvary, and all you see is a helpless 06:47 man hanging on a cross at the mercy of Roman soldiers 06:52 and Jewish priests. 06:54 Was it not then, friends, conceivable that a man 06:57 who possessed such miraculous power would use it 07:00 to deliver himself? 07:02 Was He who He said He was, or was He a sham, a scam, 07:10 a con, a crook. 07:14 Was He an imposter, a pretender, a phony, a fraud. 07:21 Where His miracles tricks or were they truth? 07:25 But then maybe He never worked a miracle, or He would 07:28 definitely be working a miracle right now. 07:30 Was He who He said He was? 07:35 These people had a hatred for Jesus. 07:37 Jesus had publicly humiliated them by exposing their hypocrisy 07:41 and self-righteousness. 07:42 Jesus had flaunted their authority and influence 07:44 by challenging many of their manmade doctrines. 07:47 For them, having Jesus on the cross 07:49 was a time to gloat. 07:51 A time to tease. 07:53 A time to mock, a time to taunt. 07:56 Finally, He was in a position where His frailty and His 07:59 weakness were on display. 08:01 Finally, He would no longer be able to chastise them 08:04 and criticize their ministries. 08:05 Finally, He would be out of circulation and would no 08:08 longer be able to embarrass them before crowds ever again. 08:13 Finally, He was down for the count, and could not 08:15 expose their twisted bran of fanatical, legalistic, 08:20 self-righteous, self-serving, smug, sanctimonious, hearty, 08:24 pompous religion. 08:27 If you are who you say you are, save then yourself. 08:36 But friends, it's not that He couldn't save Himself. 08:40 The fact is, He wouldn't save Himself because He knew He had 08:47 to go to Calvary to die and save you and me. 08:51 You see, Jesus would never use His divinity to work a miracle 08:57 on behalf of His humanity. 08:59 Because He was the God-man. 09:02 Two natures in one personality. 09:05 He got tired as man, but as God He said "Come unto me all 09:09 ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you 09:11 rest." 09:12 He got hungry as man, but as God 09:16 He took two fish, five loaves of bread and fed 5,000. 09:18 He got thirsty as man, but as God He said, "Drink 09:22 of fountains of living waters that shall never run dry." 09:24 He wanted companionship as man, but as God, he had 09:28 to tread the winepress alone. 09:30 He wept as man at Lazarus' grave, but as God He 09:35 resurrected Lazarus from the grave. 09:38 Jesus has been the centerpiece of Western history for 2,000 09:42 years and while His followers have numbered in the millions, 09:45 the movement He began as always had critics. 09:50 They say "He's not who he said he was." 09:56 I'm here to let everyone know today under the sound of my 09:58 voice that everybody doesn't believe He's God. 10:02 Everybody doesn't believe He's the Messiah. 10:06 And it's not just the Jews, either. 10:09 In fact, there's a movement on the rise that questions 10:14 the authenticity of Jesus Christ. 10:17 They doubt the legitimacy of Jesus. 10:20 They disbelieve the genuineness of Jesus. 10:23 They question the realism of Jesus. 10:26 Did Jesus really turn water into wine? 10:28 Did Jesus really heal the woman with the issue of blood? 10:32 Did Jesus really give sight to the blind? 10:35 Did Jesus make the lame to walk, the dumb to talk? 10:38 Did Jesus really walk on water, did He feed 5,000 or were His 10:43 words lies or jive? 10:46 Was Jesus God? 10:48 The Messianic Saviour who came to earth to rescue people, 10:51 or was He just an important religious figure, but one who 10:54 was not or never claimed to be the divine Messiah? 10:57 Did Jesus perform a work on the cross that brought about 11:00 my salvation, or was He just a dedicated religious person who 11:04 was actively involved in the social and spiritual 11:06 world of His day, but who never performed 11:08 or offered the unique and solitary means of salvation 11:11 for the entire human race? 11:12 Is Jesus the only way to find salvation in life, and is He 11:18 a member really of the Triune God: the Father, the Son 11:21 and the Holy Ghost, who is to be worshipped today, 11:24 or is He just one among many ways by which a postmodern 11:28 person can come to know and experience God 11:30 but who never accepted or advocated worship of Jesus 11:33 Christ in the flesh? 11:34 Was He who He says He was? 11:41 These questions come from a heretical brand of naysayers, 11:48 doubters, rebel rousers, and modern-day haters of Jesus 11:56 who are confusing Christianity, dividing our churches, 12:03 bamboozling our children, and calling themselves the Jesus 12:09 Seminar. 12:10 And while they don't reflect responsible scholarship 12:14 or critical consensus, many in media have allowed themselves 12:18 to be deceived by this movement. 12:21 In case you didn't know, Jesus is under fire in the public eye. 12:29 Atheism is on the rise. 12:32 Agnosticism is on the rise. 12:35 Scholars who have subjected Jesus to scrutiny 12:38 in their private studies and disclose their conclusions 12:41 in closed academic circles are now waging their battle 12:44 through the printed, the public and social media. 12:49 But today, let me remind you that everything on the Internet 12:55 is not true. 12:56 [Aud. reaction] PB: Not everything 12:59 you hear is correct. 13:03 In fact, my mama said believe none of what you hear, 13:07 and half of what you see. 13:10 The devil is a lie. 13:15 But as my Bible says in John 1:1, "In the beginning 13:18 was the Word, and the Word was with God, 13:25 and the Word was God." 13:26 And then verse 14 says that "The Word was made flesh, 13:28 and dwelt among us," which means that the Word, Jesus, 13:33 is from the beginning. 13:35 He is the beginner of the beginning because He 13:37 is the beginner in whom the beginning began. 13:39 He is the beginning before the beginning was begun 13:41 because He is the beginning who did not begin to be. 13:43 He did not start because He has nowhere to come from. 13:47 He does not stop because He has no boundary line, being 13:49 as He is what He was, He was what He is and what 13:51 He wasn't is, He will always be. 13:53 Aud: Yes! 13:54 Jesus came from the bosom of the Father to the bosom 13:57 of a woman. 13:58 He put on humanity in order that we might put on divinity. 14:02 He became the Son of man in order that we might 14:06 become sons of God. 14:07 He came from heaven where the rivers never freeze, winds 14:10 never blow, flowers never fade and nobody is ever sick. 14:13 [Aud. reaction] PB: In infancy He startled 14:15 a king. 14:16 In boyhood, He puzzled wise men. 14:18 In manhood He hushed the course of nature. 14:20 He walked upon the billows and quieted the sea to sleep. 14:24 He healed multitudes without medicine and made no charge 14:27 for His services. 14:28 He is the Star of astronomy. 14:32 He is the Rock of geology. 14:35 He is the Lion and the Lamb of zoology. 14:38 Born in Bethlehem, rocked in a cow's eating trough, 14:42 worked in a carpenter shop, baptized in the muddy Jordan, 14:47 turned water into wine, gave sight to the blind, 14:52 crucified on Friday, lay resting in the grave 14:55 on the Sabbath. 14:56 But early Sunday morning, He rose, He ascended back 15:01 to heaven, and one day He's coming back to get us. 15:04 Great men have come and gone, but Jesus lives on. 15:09 You see, Herod could not kill Him. 15:12 Governments could not silence Him. 15:15 Money could not buy Him. 15:18 Satan could not seduce Him. 15:20 Death could not destroy Him. 15:24 Hell could not handle Him. 15:26 The grave could not hold Him. 15:30 He's my Jesus. 15:32 [Aud. reaction] Some call Him Savior, 15:35 others call Him Redeemer, somebody else calls Him 15:38 Deliverer. 15:39 Somebody else says He's a way-maker, 15:42 He's a mountain-mover. 15:44 Somebody knows Him as a bill payer. 15:46 He might be to a cancer killer, a diabetes destroyer, 15:51 a problem solver, a burden bearer, a heavy load sharer. 15:57 [Aud. reaction] He's Jesus. 16:00 You remember the story of a little boy who went off 16:07 to college. 16:09 He studied biology, botany and all the life sciences. 16:13 He came home from school the first semester 16:18 and he knew everything. 16:19 You couldn't tell him a thing. 16:21 You know how we are, we get the big head, we know it all. 16:25 His mother said to him, "Son." 16:27 Friday night, "What are you wearing to church tomorrow?" 16:30 "Mother, Iím not going." 16:35 She said, "What do you mean, you're not going?" 16:37 Because I believe he grew up in a house like I grew up in. 16:39 As long as you're under my daddy's roof, you're going 16:41 to do what my daddy says. 16:42 Do I have a witness in this place? 16:44 Aud.: Amen. 16:45 PB: She said, "What do you mean, you're not going to church, 16:49 young man?" 16:50 He said, "I've been to school now. 16:52 I ain't going to church tomorrow." 16:55 So she went to her room, and she began to moan, 17:01 "Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved 17:05 a wretch like me." 17:07 She began to moan and she sang herself to sleep. 17:11 But later on that night, she heard a moan coming 17:17 from her son's room. 17:19 She got up out of her bed, she went to her son's room 17:22 and said "Son, what's the problem? 17:26 Why are you making all this noise?" 17:29 The young man was holding his jaw and said, "Mama, 17:32 I've got a terrible toothache." 17:35 She said, "Son, well you been studying all that biology. 17:40 All that botany. 17:42 Life science, physical science, earth science. 17:46 And you're saying that if God defiles your five senses, you 17:51 can't see Him, you can't smell Him, you can't hear Him, you 17:57 can't touch Him, and you sure can't taste Him." 18:01 But she said, "This toothache you have, can you see it?" 18:08 He said, "No, I can't see it." 18:10 She said, "Well, can you smell it?" 18:14 He said, "Mama, I can't smell it." 18:17 She said, "Well then, can you taste it?" 18:20 He said, "Mama, I can't smell it, I can't taste it, but I can 18:27 feel it all over me." 18:31 [Aud. reaction] The mother said, "Son, boy, 18:35 that's what I've been trying to tell you about my Jesus. 18:38 I can't see Him, I can't touch Him, I can't taste Him, 18:46 I can't smell Him, but every now and then I can feel Him 18:53 all over me. 18:54 And when you make contact with God for yourself. 18:58 I'm not talking about hitchhiking off somebody 19:01 else's testimony. 19:03 I'm not talking about hoboing off somebody else's anointing, 19:06 but Iím talking about when you've been through 19:08 enough stuff for yourself. 19:10 When you've been through enough stuff personally 19:12 for yourself and you've come to experience God for yourself, 19:16 I'm talking about your testimony, you can't help 19:19 but make some noise. 19:21 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. 19:25 Serve the Lord with gladness. 19:28 Come before His presence with singing. 19:30 Here's the deal: Some of us don't like noise. 19:34 But if you don't like noise, I don't know where you're going. 19:38 Because if you live on any street in Huntsville there's 19:40 going to be noise up and down your street. 19:42 If you live and die in sin and eventually end up in hell, 19:45 there's going to be gnashing of teeth noise. 19:47 If you're planning on going to heaven with the rest of us, 19:49 there's going to be sure enough noise, because when we 19:55 all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that's gonna be. 19:59 When we all see Jesus! 20:00 We're going to sing, and we're going to shout the victory. 20:03 And because of His life, because of His death, because 20:07 of His resurrection, one day He's coming back. 20:11 And every eye is going to see Him, and the dead in Christ 20:15 are going to rise first. 20:16 Then we which are alive and remain are going to be 20:18 caught up to meet Him in the air. 20:20 The wicked living are going to die at the brightness 20:22 of His coming. 20:23 The wicked dead are going to remain dead. 20:26 And at the end of the 1,000 years the wicked are going 20:29 to be raised one more time. 20:33 They must be resurrected. 20:36 Everybody must be alive at the same time, because 20:41 the prophecy must come to pass. 20:44 That one day every knee shall bow, every tongue 20:52 must confess, that Jesus the Christ is Lord. 21:00 And oh, I want to see it. 21:02 Look upon His face, there to sing forever of His saving 21:10 grace. 21:11 On the streets of glory, I plan to lift my voice, 21:14 cares all past. 21:16 Hallelujah, home at last. 21:19 Ever to rejoice. 21:21 There'll be no crying there. 21:22 There'll be no dying there. 21:24 There'll be no cancer there. 21:26 There'll be no high blood pressure there. 21:29 There'll be no high gas prices there. 21:31 There'll be no mortgage there. 21:36 Jesus is coming back. 21:39 And because of His sacrifice, 21:44 because He went to Calvary to die for you and for me, 21:52 we have a right to the Tree of Life and may enter in 21:58 to the gates into the city. 21:59 Don't you let anyone tell you He's not who He said He was. 22:04 Jesus is the Christ. 22:06 Jesus is the Messiah. 22:08 And Jesus is our soon coming conquering King. 22:17 Ride on, King Jesus! 22:20 No man can hinder Thee. 22:23 Ride on, King Jesus! 22:26 I don't know about you, but I plan to go home. 22:31 [Aud. reaction] I've got a grandmother 22:33 I want to see. 22:34 I've got a grandfather I've got to see. 22:47 They just held me as a little boy, 22:49 but they didn't see how their foundation made a way 22:56 for me to be the man and the pastor that I am today. 23:02 I've got a little girl that I've got to see again. 23:12 Mr. Rodham, you're going to see Brendan, again. 23:17 We'll see Elder Ward again. 23:22 Elder Moseley. 23:30 I'll tell Elder Ward, I was just like you, just not the music. 23:33 I was just like you. 23:39 Most importantly, we'll see Jesus. 23:49 Some of you have lost children. 23:57 You've lost spouses. 24:05 You've lost grandchildren and friends. 24:11 He's going to wipe away every tear from our eyes. 24:22 Now, it would be a travesty for an individual to die 24:30 a physical death but then also die a spiritual death. 24:41 I know it's Communion, I know Iím not supposed to do this, 24:43 but I'm going to do it anyway, because after all, 2 1/2 24:46 years, I'm out of the box but I'm still in the book, so 24:51 I do things just a little different. 24:56 Today, you don't have to die a spiritual death. 24:59 Today, if you confess with your mouth and believe 25:06 in your heart that there's going to be a midnight cry, and you'll 25:16 be reunited with your loved ones and united with Jesus, 25:19 but most importantly your soul will be saved. 25:21 Today I give you life today, and the life that I give 25:23 is in Jesus Christ. 25:24 He says, "I have come that you might have life more 25:27 abundantly. 25:28 I am the way, the truth and the life." 25:33 Today, do you want life? 25:36 Today you need more than Communion, you need more 25:38 than the wafer and the juice. 25:43 What you need to say on this day, March 8th, Communion 25:45 Sabbath, is I want to give my all to Jesus. 25:48 I want to join this church. 25:50 I want to be a part of this fellowship by baptism, 25:54 by rebaptism, by transfer of membership, by profession 25:56 of my faith. 25:57 But God, through the power of His Spirit has spoken to me 26:00 today, and today is the day and I'm going to walk in God's 26:03 blessing for my life. 26:08 If you're here, and I don't want to be long because we have 26:12 to engage in the Lord's Supper. 26:13 But today if you're here, I dare not close this service 26:18 without allowing you the privilege of life 26:21 in Jesus Christ. 26:25 So if you're here, I invite you to come, right now. 26:30 >: It's an age-old question. 26:31 What happens after we die? 26:34 The Breath of Life gift offer this week
