02:28 All week long we've been talking about drama.
02:30 If you're just here today, we've been talking about drama
02:33 all week long.
02:34 If you don't know what drama is, drama is the unnecessary
02:36 stuff in your life, seeking to gain attention
02:40 and your priority.
02:42 Drama is the stuff that gets on our nerves.
02:46 Drama is the stuff that drives us crazy for no reason.
02:50 It's the stuff that causes us to ask, "Why?" Why does it have
02:55 to be like this?
02:57 Why do I have to go through this?
03:00 Why does it have to be so hard?
03:02 Why?
03:03 Let's be clear.
03:04 Drama is no respecter of persons.
03:08 Drama is an equal opportunity employer.
03:13 Drama affects everybody everywhere.
03:16 There are all kinds of drama: financial drama, job drama,
03:22 school drama, financial clearance drama, husband drama,
03:29 ex-husband drama, wife drama, ex-wife drama, baby drama,
03:39 daddy drama, baby-daddy drama, and we established this week
03:46 that the number one all-time voted drama is baby-mama drama.
03:52 Drama can mess you up.
03:56 And the funny thing about drama is that just when you think
03:59 you're through and over one thing over here, here comes
04:03 some more drama.
04:05 But I believe I've got some witnesses up in this place that
04:09 are ready to say, "Goodbye, drama." Because there comes
04:13 a time in your life where you say,
04:14 "I'm tired of all the drama."
04:15 I'm tired of all the negative crazy people.
04:19 I'm tired of all the crazy relationships, all the mess
04:22 and the foolishness.
04:23 We said it all week.
04:24 If I'm going to do bad, I can do bad by myself.
04:27 Because the last thing you believe while you're trying to

10:19 Goodbye, drama.
10:21 Well, Pastor Byrd, what do I do if drama keeps coming?
10:27 I'm not looking for it, I'm not trying to find it, but I'm
10:30 trying to stay away from it, but it keeps coming, because
10:32 the strange thing about drama sometimes is that when you
10:34 think you're over one thing, here comes some more.
10:37 And that's where we are in the text today.
10:40 Drama keeps coming to Brother Job.
10:43 What are you when drama keeps coming?
10:47 You run from it, you try to hide from it,
10:50 but it keeps coming.
10:51 Quickly, now, we know the story of Brother Job.
10:53 Job was a good man.
10:55 He was an upright man who feared God and shunned evil.
10:58 Which means Job wasn't caught up in mess.
11:02 Job was a good man.
11:03 Some of us love mess.
11:05 Mess just envelops us.
11:08 Job did not like mess.
11:09 Job avoided even the very appearance of mess.
11:14 But the question is, why do bad things happen to good people?
11:20 You hear it every day.
11:21 Why did my loved one have to die?
11:23 Why is my family in shambles?
11:24 Why don't I have a job?
11:25 Why can't I pass the class?
11:27 Why does drama keep coming to me?
11:30 Why do bad things happen to good people?
11:33 And this is the crux of our message today.
11:35 You must understand that the rain falls on the just
11:39 and the unjust.
11:41 There are some things that happen in God's express will,
11:45 and there are some things that happen in God's permissive
11:48 will.
11:49 And whatever God in his permissive will allows to
11:51 happen in your life, friends of mine, no matter how tough your
11:55 situation might be, it is simply a part of the larger
11:58 process to allow you to walk into the destiny that God has
12:02 for your life.
12:03 Let me break this down quickly.
12:06 When you look at the book of Job and you study the book of
12:08 Job, you will discover that Job went through a lot of drama.
12:13 He went through stuff that wreaked havoc in his life.
12:17 And it's very interesting, friends of mine, to study the
12:19 book of Job, because what really brings credibility to
12:23 Job's story is that Job went through what he went through
12:26 not knowing what we know.
12:30 What I mean is, if you study biblical history carefully, you
12:35 will discover that the Bible is not written
12:39 in chronological order.
12:40 Think about it.
12:42 Genesis 1:1 says, "In the beginning, God created
12:47 the heavens and the" what?
12:49 Now, we don't know when that beginning was.
12:51 God does not have a beginning, God does not have an end,
12:56 God is God.
12:57 God does not have a mama, God does not have a daddy,
13:00 you didn't vote God in and you can't vote God out.
13:02 God is God.
13:06 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
13:10 Then the Bible goes on in Isaiah now, so we go from
13:12 Genesis to Isaiah.
13:14 Isaiah 14, where Lucifer wanted to be lie God.
13:17 And because there can't be two cooks in the kitchen, somebody
13:21 had to go.
13:22 So we go from Genesis to Isaiah, where Lucifer wanted to
13:25 be as God.
13:26 And then we skip over to Revelation.
13:28 And we go to Revelation, chapter 12, verse number 7, 8
13:30 and 9, where the Word of God says there was war in heaven.
13:34 Michael, representing Jesus and his angels,
13:36 fought against the devil, the dragon, and the dragon
13:39 and Satan prevailed not.
13:41 They were cast unto the Earth to deceive the world.
13:44 Skip back to Genesis 1:2.
13:47 The earth was without form and void.
13:50 Darkness was upon the face of the deep and the spirit of God
13:52 moved upon the face of the waters, and God said,
13:53 let there be light, and there was light.
13:55 And the evening and the morning were the first day.
13:57 The Bible is not in chronological order.
13:59 We've just gone from Genesis to Isaiah to Revelation,
14:03 back to Genesis.
14:05 Most people think that in the Bible Genesis came first,
14:08 Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges,
14:10 Ruth, First and Second Samuel, First and Second Kings, and go
14:13 on.
14:14 But it was not necessarily written in that order.
14:16 And many biblical, including Seventh-day Adventist
14:18 theologians, assign the authorship of Job to Moses,
14:21 believing that Moses wrote the book of Job
14:24 during his time in Midian.
14:25 Which is why, if you study the Word of God carefully, why
14:28 the book of Job makes no mention of the exodus or the events
14:32 surrounding the exodus, because these events had not occurred
14:35 yet.
14:36 Which means Job was one of the first books written by Moses.
14:40 So then, therefore, Job went through what he went through
14:44 not knowing what we know.
14:47 We, on the other hand, have the benefit of knowing how the
14:52 thing with Job turned out.
14:54 But while Job was going through it, while Job was experiencing
14:58 drama on every hand, while drama kept coming to Job, Job
15:03 said, "I cannot sin against God." Job said, "I trust God."
15:10 Job's relationship was tested.
15:13 His relationship with God was tested, his marriage
15:15 was tested.
15:16 His relationship with his friends was tested.
15:18 And in the midst of all this test, Job's life
15:21 was a testimony to all of us that no matter what you're going
15:24 through in life, no matter how much drama you experience in
15:28 your life, no matter when the odds are stacked against you,
15:32 God's still going to make a way.
15:35 God's still going to bring you.
15:37 God still has your back.
15:38 Do I have a witness in this place?
15:43 Who am I talking to in this place today?
15:45 You know who you are.
15:47 You're broke.
15:48 You come to church looking good, but you're broke.
15:52 Unemployed and broke.
15:56 Somebody on the verge of divorce.
15:59 Somebody just diagnosed with cancer.
16:01 Somebody just lost a family member, or you have no friend
16:04 in the world.
16:05 You feel like giving up.
16:08 But I'm here to let you know today that God's still
16:11 in control.
16:13 Remember, friends of mine, that the intensity
16:17 of your crown is measured by the intensity of your cross.
16:21 We all have a cross to bear.
16:24 We all have had some drama in our life.
16:28 Don't sit there and act like you don't have any drama.
16:30 You have had drama in your life.
16:33 But quickly, fast-forwarding to Job, chapter 23, when we read
16:36 verses 1-9, we see Job's problems.
16:40 Job laments over all the drama he's going through.
16:43 We see Job wrestling with God.
16:45 We see Job wrestling with himself.
16:47 But here is the clincher.
16:48 In verse 10, Job runs into a conjunction.
16:51 Job 23:10, that wipes out the struggle.
16:57 Verse 10 says, "But he knoweth the way that I take." But.
17:08 Whenever you run into that word, but, what God has said
17:13 is, forget about what has been.
17:17 Forget about yesterday.
17:20 Quit living in rewind, because you're about to walk into
17:26 something that's greater than what you've come out of.
17:31 I'm about to lose my mind, but.
17:36 I was about to give up, but.
17:38 I didn't know how I was going to make it, but.
17:45 My friends walked out on me, but.
17:49 That man in 20 years walked out on me, but.
17:54 Weeping may endure for a night, but joy.
17:59 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal
18:04 life through Jesus Christ our Lord Job says, I know I've gone
18:07 through some drama, but.
18:10 I know I've lost my oxen, but.
18:12 I know I've lost some sheep, but.
18:15 I know I've lost some camels, but.
18:19 I know I've lost my children, but.
18:22 I know I've lost my wife, but.
18:27 I know I've lost my friends, but he knows the way that I
18:31 take, and when he had tried me, he says, I shall come forth as
18:35 gold.
18:36 The Bible says Job shaved his head, tore off his clothes,
18:39 fell down on the ground, and worshiped God.
18:42 Oh, I wish when we go through trial, I wish somebody would
18:45 just worship God.
18:46 When we go through difficulty, I wish somebody would come away
18:49 from the complaint counter and come to the claim window,
18:52 and just worship God, and say naked I came in
18:54 this world, naked I shall leave this world.
18:57 The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away.
19:00 But blessed be the Lord.
19:01 What do you do when drama keeps coming?
19:03 You better learn how to worship God.
19:05 You better learn how to fall on your knees and say, though he
19:08 slay me, yet will I trust in him.
19:12 I will bless the Lord at all times, and his praise shall
19:15 continually be in my mouth.
19:19 In life, sometimes in life's journey, sometimes on life's
19:22 path, I've learned that sometimes God doesn't tell us
19:28 what's going to happen until we get there.
19:32 God doesn't let us know what's going to happen when we get
19:35 there.
19:36 Why?
19:37 Because we can't handle it where we are right now.
19:39 So on this path I've learned one of two things is going
19:42 to happen.
19:43 Either it's going to be a lesson or a blessing.
19:48 Lesson or a blessing.
19:52 God is never obligated by my questions.
19:55 God's just obligated by giving me some answers.
19:58 Let me say that again.
19:59 God is not obligated to respond to me as long I keep asking him
20:02 questions.
20:03 But when I respond back to God based on the Word of God
20:05 regarding my situation, God then moves on my behalf.
20:07 When I'm on God's path, God will protect me, because God
20:11 never sends me anywhere where he doesn't have my back.
20:16 God never sends me anywhere where he doesn't have my back.
20:22 So though I walk through the valley of the shadow
20:25 of death, I will not fear, because God's got my back.
20:35 God wouldn't take me to it if God wasn't God enough to bring
20:38 me through it.
20:39 Wherever God leads me, God is God enough to keep me.
20:42 But while you're questioning God and while you're weeping
20:45 and while you're crying and while you're complaining,
20:48 the devil tries to use that as a window to come in and attack.
20:52 Here goes the devil.
20:53 The reason why you haven't fallen to demonic attack is
20:56 because God has put a hedge around you.
20:58 The reason why you've shown up today, not just to see the óóó,
21:01 but you've shown up because God has a hedge around you.
21:04 That's what the devil says.
21:05 Not because you've been so good, but because God's been
21:07 protecting you.
21:10 Look at this story, it's simple.
21:12 I'm going to tell it and then I'm going to sit down.
21:14 In Job, chapter 1, God says, devil, where have you been?
21:16 The devil says, I've been going to and fro in the world,
21:19 seeking whom I may devour.
21:21 God, he's bragging on his boy Job.
21:24 Have you considered my servant, Job?
21:26 Now, remember, sometimes God won't let you in the
21:29 conversation.
21:30 Because could you imagine if Job had heard God and the devil
21:33 talking?
21:34 He would have been like, God, send somebody else.
21:36 I didn't sign up to be your guinea pig.
21:39 [laughter] But God knows the path I take.
21:41 And so the devil says, Oh, yes, I know Job.
21:45 You've hooked him up.
21:47 I can't get to him because you put a hedge of protection
21:50 around him.
21:51 My question, if I can put a kickstand here,
21:52 is if the devil knows we have protection,
21:55 why don't we know?
21:57 [applause] The devil, ah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:03 The devil says, if you just remove the hedge, everybody say
22:08 permission.
22:09 Aud: Permission.
22:10 You see, the devil just can't mess with you without
22:12 permission.
22:14 That's why I know God is still in control, hallelujah,
22:17 somebody.
22:18 Here's the devil.
22:19 If you remove the hedge, I'll come in and I'll mess with him.
22:23 I'll put him through major drama, I'll take away stuff.
22:26 God says, all right, I'll remove the hedge.
22:28 You can afflict his body but you can't take his life,
22:31 because his life belongs to me.
22:32 In other words, you can only do what I permit you to do.
22:35 Somebody ought to shout right there, knowing your life is in
22:38 God's hand.
22:39 Hallelujah, somebody.
22:40 The devil can't do anything to you without permission, and God
22:43 won't put more on you than you can bear.
22:46 Somebody's still not getting it.
22:48 Let me put it this way.
22:49 The story is told of a little boy who had a brother, and they
22:53 had some friends, and they would take the bus to school
22:57 every day.
22:58 When school was over, the boy and his friends would get off
23:01 the bus, go to the store, buy some candy, buy some blow-pops,
23:06 buy some pickles.
23:07 And I don't know if anybody remembers this, buy some Jungle
23:10 Juice.
23:11 Aud: Yeah, yeah.
23:13 Somebody says, what's Jungle Juice?
23:15 Sugar water and food coloring.
23:17 Come on, say Amen.
23:18 Aud: [laughter] But when they would get, and when they got to
23:23 the store, there would be this big dog.
23:27 This big Great Dane dog.
23:33 And that dog used to bark.
23:34 Woof, woof, woof.
23:36 And I mean, that young man used to go back, woof, woof, woof,
23:42 woof.
23:43 And all they'd see would be this dog running toward them,
23:45 and they'd take off running once they saw the dog running
23:48 toward them.
23:49 And so the little boy in the family, he was a take-charge
23:53 kind of person.
23:55 He was the president of his family.
23:58 He was the spokesperson.
24:01 So one day he decided, look, I'm tired of all this.
24:03 I'm going to go over and talk to the owner.
24:05 Because I'm tired of this dog running after us.
24:07 Now, you have to understand, this boy was in the third
24:10 grade.
24:12 He walks up to the door of the owner, rings the doorbell,
24:15 ding-dong!
24:16 And he's standing there trembling, waiting for the door
24:22 to open.
24:24 A man comes and he opens up the door, and the boy says, "Hello,
24:28 sir, how are you doing today?
24:32 I don't mean any harm, but as kids, we come down this street
24:38 all the time.
24:40 But your dog chases us.
24:44 Now, we're not doing anything to your dog, we're not messing
24:48 with your dog.
24:49 We're just going to the store getting Blow-Pop, some pickles
24:52 and some Jungle Juice.
24:55 But your dog keeps chasing us."
24:58 The man said, "Son, are you running from the dog?"
25:05 The young man said, "Yes."
25:06 The man said, "Are you sure he's chasing you?"
25:10 The young man said, "Yes."
25:13 "Well, how do you know he's chasing you when your back
25:20 is to the dog?" "We're just running, sir, because we
25:27 see him running, coming toward us." He said, "Well, I'll tell
25:31 you what.
25:33 You're right, my dog is a big dog.
25:36 My dog is a vicious dog.
25:39 And if my dog gets ahold of you, he's going to bite your
25:41 head off.
25:42 But let me tell you a secret, and you can tell your brother
25:45 and your little friends this secret too.
25:47 The dog's on a leash.
25:54 You wouldn't know that because your back is turned.
26:01 But if you just turn around, you might realize that even
26:06 though he's barking, he can only go so far." I wish I had a
26:13 witness in this place.
26:14 You better tell somebody that that's why you're still here
26:21 today.
