"In the" what, everybody? 02:59 (Aud: Beginning.) "God created the heaven and the" 03:03 what? 03:04 (Aud: Earth.) Then we go on throughout the first chapter 03:06 of Genesis and we discovered that God created this earth 03:13 in six literal days. 03:16 We also discovered that a day biblically is defined as 03:22 the evening and the morning. 03:25 And so we studied that in six literal days God created 03:31 this earth. 03:33 But we also understand that there are how many days 03:35 in a week? 03:36 (Aud: Seven.) There are seven days in a week, 03:39 so if he created this earth in six days, 03:41 then on day number seven he did something else. 03:46 For the sake of review, on day number one, 03:50 God created what, everybody? 03:52 God created light. 03:54 On day number two, God created the what? 03:57 (Aud: Firmament.) Day number three, God created? 04:01 (Aud: Land.) Day number four, God created the? 04:04 (Aud: Sun, moon and stars.) Day five, God created? 04:09 (Aud: Fish and fowl.) And on day six, God created what? 04:14 Mammal and man. 04:17 Then we went to Genesis, Chapter 2, and we discovered 04:21 from the Word of God what God did on day seven. 04:27 I read, Genesis 2:1, 2 and3, "Thus the heavens and the 04:34 earth were finished, and all the host of them. 04:37 And on the" what day? 04:38 (Aud: Seventh.) God did what? 04:42 "Ended his work, which he had made; and he rested on 04:45 the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 04:49 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: 04:52 because that in it he had rested from all his work 04:56 which God created and made." 04:59 So we discover there are seven days in a week, in six days 05:04 God created this earth, but on the seventh day God 05:07 did three things, he rested. 05:09 He did what, everybody? 05:10 (Aud: Rested.) Not only did he rest, he did what? 05:13 Blessed it. 05:14 And then, number three, he did what? 05:16 Sanctified it. 05:17 So God did something different on day seven. 05:22 He rested, then he blessed the seventh day, then he 05:26 sanctified the seventh day, which means he set aside or 05:30 set apart the seventh day. 05:32 We go on. 05:35 We went to the Book of Exodus and we read 05:37 in Exodus, Chapter 20, how in verse 8, 9, 10 and 11 05:44 that the Sabbath is a part of God's ten commandments. 05:48 We also discover that in Exodus 20:8, 05:51 the fourth commandment, the Sabbath commandment, 05:56 begins with the word, remember. 05:58 Begins with the what word, everybody? 06:00 (Aud: Remember.) Notice in all of the other 06:02 commandments they begin with "Thou shalt not." 06:07 Interestingly enough, commandment number four 06:10 beginning with verse 8, begins with the word 06:13 "Remember." Meaning that somebody somewhere would 06:18 either try to forget God's commandment or somebody 06:22 somewhere would try to change God's law. 06:26 But God said, "Remember the" what day? 06:29 Sabbath day to keep it what? 06:31 (Aud: Holy.) Six days shalt thou what, everybody? 06:33 (Aud: Labor.) Which is in harmony with what we read in 06:36 Genesis 1 and 2, in that God created this earth in six 06:41 days, which says, God is not asking 06:43 his people to do anything he has not done himself. 06:47 "Six days shalt thou labour and do all thy work, 06:50 but the" what day? 06:51 (Aud: Seventh.) Is the what? 06:53 (Aud: Sabbath.) "Of the Lord thy God. 06:55 In it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor 06:56 thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy 06:58 maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within 07:01 thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, 07:04 the sea, and all that in them is, 07:07 and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord 07:10 blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." 07:13 We then went on to Exodus 31:12-18, and we read 07:23 where the Word of God lets us know that 07:25 the Sabbath was to be a sign between God and his people 07:29 forever. 07:30 We read that it is a perpetual, ongoing covenant 07:34 between God and his people. 07:37 We then went on to Leviticus: 23 and we read 07:42 verse 3 where the Word says, "Six days shall work be done, 07:46 but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, 07:48 an holy convocation; ye shall do no work 07:52 therein: it is the sabbath of the Lord in all 07:54 your dwellings." 07:56 So read again in Leviticus, six days work was done, 08:00 but the seventh day, the Sabbath, is a holy 08:03 convocation, meaning a holy coming together, 08:06 a holy gathering, a holy assembly. 08:10 Which last night I explained to you why, then, not only 08:13 do I observe the Sabbath, sunset Friday to sunset 08:17 Saturday, evening and the morning as the Sabbath, 08:20 but I also find myself in God's house on God's Sabbath 08:25 because the Sabbath is to be a holy convocation. 08:27 We then went on further. 08:31 The Book of Isaiah and we went to Chapter 58 08:35 and to verse 13 and we read in the Word 08:39 of God what activities we should engage in 08:43 on God's Sabbath. 08:44 And I gave you the illustration, you will remember, 08:48 about having a date with my wife. 08:52 And I gave the illustration how I looked my best, I smelled 08:57 my best, I acted my best and my attentions were 09:02 focused in on her. 09:05 The same is true with God's Holy Sabbath. 09:08 It is our date with him. 09:10 So, when I come to his house, I'm coming to meet my King 09:14 of Kings and Lord of Lords. 09:15 And I talked about how I looked my best, I act my best, 09:19 I even try to smell my best, but most importantly, 09:24 I realize it's my time with God. 09:27 The Word goes on and says that "If thou turn away thy foot 09:31 from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; 09:35 and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, 09:37 honourable; and shalt honor him, not doing thine own" what? 09:41 Ways. 09:42 Nor finding thy own what? 09:43 (Aud: Pleasure.) "Nor speaking thine own words: 09:46 then shall thou delight thyself in the Lord; 09:48 and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places 09:49 of the earth, and feed ye with the heritage 09:51 of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord 09:53 hath spoken it." 09:55 Then we went on into Isaiah 66:22, and I was reminded 10:02 and we share with you that when we get to God's great 10:05 heaven the people of God will still observe and 10:09 worship God on God's Sabbath. 10:11 "For as the new heavens and the new earth, 10:13 which I will make, shall remain before me, 10:15 saith the Lord, so shall your seed 10:17 and your name remain. 10:18 And it shall come to pass, that from one 10:20 new moon to another and from one sabbath to another, 10:24 shall all flesh," how much flesh, 10:26 everybody? 10:27 "All flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord." 10:34 So we're clear. 10:36 Seventh-day Sabbath. 10:37 We're clear. 10:38 Somebody says, well, did God change his law? 10:41 Because it seems so clear, Pastor Byrd, did God change 10:44 his law? 10:45 No, God didn't change his law. 10:46 God said, I am the Lord, I change what? Not. 10:49 Did Jesus change his law? 10:53 Well, we read from Matthew, Chapter 5:17, "Think not that I 10:57 am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: 11:00 I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. 11:04 " So Jesus says, I didn't come to change God's law, 11:08 I came to fulfill God's law. 11:10 Well, Jesus, can you give us an example of fulfilling 11:13 God's law. 11:14 Jesus says, yes, I can. 11:15 Go with me to the Book of Luke, Chapter 4 and let's read 11:21 Luke, Chapter 4 and let's see how Jesus fulfilled 11:25 God's law. 11:26 The Word of God say in Luke 4:16, "And he came to Nazareth." 11:30 He came where, everybody? 11:31 (Aud: Nazareth.) "Where he had been brought up: 11:34 and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue," the church, 11:38 "on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 11:41 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. 11:44 And when he had opened the book, he found the place 11:47 where it is written," verse 18, "The Spirit of the Lord 11:49 is upon me, because he hath anointed me 11:52 to preach the gospel to the poor; 11:53 he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, 11:55 to preach deliverance to the captives, 11:57 and recovering of sight to the blind, 11:59 to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach 12:02 the acceptable year of the Lord. 12:03 And he closed the book, and he gave it 12:05 again to the minister, and sat down." 12:07 Remember, I told you he was the guest preacher. 12:09 Come on, say Amen. 12:10 "And the eyes of them that were in the synagogue," or church, 12:14 "were fastend on him." 12:16 Jesus said, I didn't come to change the law, 12:20 I came to fulfill it. 12:21 I fulfilled it and here is an example 12:23 of that fulfillment. 12:24 So, then if someone says, well, Pastor, it's so clear. 12:28 I just don't understand how could it be? 12:30 How could it be that we're so mixed up on the Sabbath, 12:34 because it's clear from Scripture, it's clear 12:36 from the Old Testament, it's clear from 12:38 the New Testament. 12:39 It must have been, Pastor Byrd, that after Jesus' 12:42 death the Sabbath was done away with. 12:48 Go with me to the Book of Acts, Chapter 13 and let's review 12:55 Acts: 13:42. 12:56 And the Word of God says: "And when the Jews were gone 13:01 out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these 13:05 words might be preached to them the next sabbath." 13:08 Which means the Sabbath wasn't just for the Jews, 13:10 but the Sabbath was also for the Gentiles. 13:13 "Now when the congregation was broken up, 13:14 many of the religious Jews or religious proselytes 13:17 followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, 13:19 persuaded them to continue in the grace of" 13:21 whom, everybody? 13:22 (Aud: God.) Number two, even though we're under grace 13:25 we still have to keep God's Sabbath. 13:28 "And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city 13:32 together to hear the word of God." We recognize that 13:40 the Sabbath was kept after Jesus' death. 13:44 We recognize the Sabbath was not just for Jews. 13:48 And we also recognize that the Sabbath was even kept 13:52 under grace. 13:56 Hebrews, Chapter 4, we went there and we discovered from 14:02 Hebrews 4 that the Sabbath had not been changed. 14:05 In fact, the writer of Hebrews said in Hebrews 4:4, 14:08 "For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on 14:13 this wise, and God did rest the seventh day 14:16 from all his works. 14:18 And in this place again, if they shall enter 14:20 into my rest. 14:21 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, 14:24 and they to whom it was first preached entered not in 14:26 because of unbelief. 14:28 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, Today, 14:31 after so long a time, as it is said, 14:34 today if ye will hear his voice, harden not 14:36 your hearts. 14:37 For if Jesus had given them rest, 14:40 then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 14:45 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God." 14:50 We learned last night that it could not have been, 14:53 it could not have been that the Sabbath was done away with 14:58 at the cross anyway, because in Genesis 1, God created 15:03 this earth in the six days. 15:06 In Genesis 2, God instituted the Sabbath. 15:10 In Genesis 3 we have the fall of man with Adam and Eve 15:15 eating of the fruit. 15:16 Adam and Eve ate of the fruit. 15:18 Adam and Eve sinned. 15:20 As sin entered this earth from one man, sin passed 15:23 on all men. 15:25 Jesus had to die on Calvary to save us from sin. 15:30 If we had never sinned there would have never been 15:32 a need for Calvary. 15:34 But the fact that the Sabbath was done away with at Calvary 15:37 cannot make sense because the Sabbath was in place 15:41 before Adam and Eve even sinned. 15:47 Genesis 1, the creation, Genesis 2, the Sabbath, 15:53 Genesis 3, the fall of man. 15:55 And so we say, well, how do we know 15:58 which day is the Sabbath? 16:00 And so we then said, well, according to the calendar, 16:04 the seventh day of the week is Saturday. 16:07 We then said, any orthodox Jew will say that Saturday 16:11 is the Sabbath. 16:12 We then even said, in the Spanish language, 16:15 Sabado is the Spanish for the English Saturday and Sabado 16:19 comes from the root word Sabbath. 16:23 But then we said, we can't go by the calendar, we can't go 16:26 by man or another Jew, we can't go by 16:28 a language, we have to go by the Word of God. 16:32 And so Luke 23, verse 50, the Word of God lets us 16:35 know our days. 16:37 "And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor, 16:40 and he was a good man, and a just: (The same had 16:45 not consented to the counsel and deed 16:48 of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: 16:51 who also himself waited for the kingdom of God. 16:54 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. 16:56 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, 16:58 and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, 17:01 wherein never a man before was laid. 17:02 And that day was the preparation, 17:04 and the sabbath drew on. 17:05 And the women also, which came with him 17:07 from Galileee, followed after, 17:09 and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid. 17:11 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments: 17:14 and rested the sabbath day according to the" 17:16 what, everybody? 17:17 (Aud: Commandment.) Now, sixth day, Friday, body 17:22 taken down from the cross, Good Friday. 17:25 Seventh day, Saturday, the Sabbath, his body laid 17:27 resting in the grave according to the commandment. 17:30 Verse 1 of Luke, Chapter 24, "Now upon the first day 17:33 of the week, very early in the morning, 17:35 they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices 17:37 which they had prepared, and certain others with them. 17:39 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. 17:41 And they entered in, and found not the body 17:42 of the Lord Jesus. 17:43 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed 17:45 thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining 17:47 garments: and as they were afraid, and bowed down their 17:49 faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye 17:51 the living among the dead? 17:52 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you 17:55 when he was yet in Galilee, saying, The Son of man 17:58 must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, 18:00 and be crucified, and the third day rise again. 18:02 And they remembered his words." Bible's clear. 18:08 Friday, day six, preparation day, he died on the cross, 18:13 body taken down to the grave. 18:14 Saturday, the Sabbath, the seventh day, his body laid 18:18 resting in the grave according to the 18:20 commandment. 18:21 Sunday, the first day of the week, Easter Sunday 18:23 as the Christian community recognizes and acknowledges 18:26 that day, he rose. 18:28 The Bible is clear. 18:32 Pastor, what difference does a day make? 18:35 I can keep every day holy. 18:40 I would hope you would act holy every day. 18:44 I would hope that each and every day of the week 18:46 you would act holy and act like you are a child of God. 18:50 But even with you acting like a good person 18:52 and a child of God and a Christian every day, 18:55 the Bible is very specific that the seventh day 18:57 is the Sabbath. Saturday, the Bible's clear on that. 19:01 I gave you an illustration, you say, what difference 19:03 does a day make? 19:04 And I ask you, what difference does fruit make? 19:06 Adam and Eve ate fruit. 19:09 God told them don't eat it. 19:12 They ate it, they disobeyed and they died. 19:15 Cain, Abel. 19:17 What difference does a sacrifice make? 19:19 A whole lot of difference. 19:21 God told them, give me a sacrifice. 19:23 Abel gave a sacrifice with an offering 19:25 with a shedding of blood. 19:27 Cain gave a sacrifice of fruits, nuts, grains, 19:29 vegetables. 19:30 It was his best, but it was not what God asked for, so God 19:34 couldn't accept it. 19:36 Uzzah, they're carrying the Ark, God said, 19:38 don't touch the Ark even if it tips over. 19:40 Don't touch the Ark. 19:41 If you touch the Ark you shall die. 19:44 What happens? 19:45 The Ark begins to tip over, Uzzah naturally reaches 19:48 to touch it, he touches it and drops dead right there. 19:52 God is a God of specifics. 19:57 Now, let's be clear. 20:04 I said last week that if there was someone who could 20:10 produce a text from the Bible, not a pamphlet but a text 20:17 from the Bible, that any other day, and I'm not here 20:22 to bash, I'm here to give the Word of God, 20:25 any other day, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 20:29 Thursday, Friday, is the Sabbath, 20:31 then I'll be more than happy to give you $5,000. 20:38 Let the record reflect and let me be clear that 20:44 I still have my money. 20:45 Because you will not find it in here. 20:54 Now, we are here because we are thirsting for the Word 20:59 of God. 21:00 We are here to follow the Word of God. 21:05 And if it ain't in the Word it doesn't deserve to be heard. 21:09 We are here to follow the Word of God. 21:11 The Word of God says, remember the Sabbath day 21:14 to keep it holy. 21:15 So, someone came to me as I told you earlier, Pastor, 21:18 then how is it that the first day of the week, how is it 21:24 that many people treat that as their worship day or the day 21:28 they go to church or the day they treat as the Sabbath? 21:31 Pastor, is there any biblical evidence 21:34 to support that? 21:35 As I said tonight, let me bring the Word and lets read 21:39 it together. 21:41 In the New Testament, because I have nothing to hide, 21:45 in the New Testament there are eight, there are what, 21:48 everybody? 21:49 There are eight texts that speak of the first day 21:54 of the week, in the New Testament, eight. 21:57 None of these eight texts speak of the first day 22:03 of the week as being the Sabbath. 22:07 Now, so you don't take my word for it, we're going to 22:09 review all eight texts tonight. 22:15 Let's do it. 22:16 Go to the Book of Matthew, Chapter 28, and I told you 22:22 earlier, you ain't going to get this everywhere. 22:24 Come on, say Amen. 22:25 I tell you, people be shouting and sweating in church, 22:28 hallelujah, we had church, and they get outside 22:31 and say, what did you talk about that you were shouting 22:33 so much. 22:34 Don't even know what you're shouting about. Matthew 28:1. 22:36 If you have it let me hear you say Amen. 22:44 (Aud: Amen.) "In the end of the sabbath, as it began 22:50 to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary 22:55 Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre." 22:59 All this text is telling us, if you continue to read 23:01 Matthew 28, it begins to talk about Jesus' 23:05 resurrection from the grave. 23:07 There is nothing in Matthew 28:1 23:10 that says the first day of the week is holy. 23:14 Let's go to text number two. 23:16 Go to the Book of Mark. 23:17 What book did I say, everybody? 23:19 Mark 16. 23:21 In your notes, write it down, go read it when you get home. 23:24 Mark 16:1-2, the Word of God says, "And when the sabbath 23:32 was past." Again, pointing to the fact that the Sabbath 23:36 comes before Sunday. 23:37 "Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, 23:40 and Salome, had brought sweet spices, 23:42 that they might come and anoint him. 23:44 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, 23:47 they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun." 23:51 Again, this speaks to Jesus' resurrection, but it never 23:55 says that the first day of the week is the Sabbath. 23:58 Let's go to text number three. 24:00 Mark, Chapter 16 again, verse 9, the Word says 24:05 in verse 9, "Now when Jesus was risen early 24:09 the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary 24:12 Magdalene, out of whom he had cast" out, 24:14 how many devils? 24:15 (Aud: Seven.) Again, nothing in here about Sunday being 24:20 treated as the Sabbath. 24:22 Nothing in here of the first day of the week being 24:25 treated as the Sabbath. 24:26 Let's go to text number four. 24:28 Go to Luke 24. 24:29 We were just there? 24:30 Well, read it again, because repetition deepens 24:33 the impression. 24:34 Luke 24:1, "Now upon the first day 24:38 of the week, every early in the morning, they came 24:40 unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices 24:43 which they had prepared, and certain others with them." 24:45 Of course, this text again points to Jesus' 24:49 resurrection on the first day of the week, 24:51 but it says nothing about keeping 24:53 the first day of the week as holy. 24:55 Let's go to text number five. 24:57 John, Chapter 20, and we're going to verse 1. 25:04 John 20:1, the Word again says, "The first day 25:08 of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, 25:11 when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth 25:14 the stone taken away from the sepulchre." Again, 25:17 it speaks of Jesus' resurrection. 25:20 Nothing suggests or says that the first day of the week 25:23 is holy. 25:24 Let's go to the sixth New Testament text. 25:27 John, Chapter 20, verse 19, the Word of God says, "Then 25:33 the same day at evening, being the first day of the 25:35 week, when the doors were shut where the disciples 25:38 were assembled for fear of the Jews, 25:40 came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith 25:43 unto them, Peace be unto you." 25:45 Again, no evidence here where it says 25:48 that the first day of the week is the Sabbath or is holy. 25:52 Let's go to the seventh example. 25:54 Acts, Chapter 20 and we're going to verse 7. 25:58 Acts 20:7, the Word of God says to us, "And upon the 26:08 first day of the week, when the disciples 26:10 came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, 26:13 ready to depart on the morrow; 26:15 and continued his speech until midnight. 26:17 And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where 26:19 they were gathered together. 26:20 And there sat in a window a certain young man named 26:22 Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep, and as Paul 26:26 was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down 26:29 from the third loft , and was taken up dead. 26:31 Paul went down, and fell on him, embracing him said, 26:34 Trouble not yourselves, for his life is in him. 26:36 When he therefore was come up again, and had broken 26:39 bread and eaten, and talked a long while, even until 26:42 break of day, so he departed. 26:44 And they brought the young man alive, and were not 26:46 a little comforted." 26:47 What's taking place here? 26:49 Paul, yes, is preaching on Sunday, but guess what? 26:52 Pastor Byrd is preaching here on Sunday night. 26:54 That doesn't mean Sunday is the Sabbath. 26:57 PB: In order for Breath of Life to continue its ministry, 27:01 we need you. 27:02 We need your prayers, we need your support. 27:05 To contact us or to make your donation, please feel free 27:08 to give us a call at 877-BOL-OFFER. 27:14 Or you may write to us at Breath of Life, P.O.
