00:11 ♪ oh yes, he's worthy ♪ ♪ worthy of all... ♪ 00:18 ♪ all the praise... ♪ ♪ (Music) ♪ 00:21 Pastor Byrd: If you have your Bibles let me hear 00:23 you say Amen. 00:24 If you have your Bibles, let's hold them up. 00:27 If it's on your iPad, hold it up. 00:32 Come on, say Amen. 00:33 Somebody's taking their iPhone, whatever it is, 00:36 hold it up. 00:36 Repeat after me and say, every promise in this book 00:38 is mine. 00:39 Come on, say it like you mean it. 00:41 Every promise in this book is mine, every chapter, 00:46 every verse, every line. 00:50 I am saved by his grace divine, for every promise 00:56 in this book is mine. 01:00 We're praying, God, bless us now. 01:03 Fellowship, one with another, we are lifted by 01:05 the melodious voices of Committed but God now, 01:08 it's time to hear a word from you. 01:12 God, disappoint us not. 01:15 We come in this place, Lord, to praise you and 01:17 celebrate you, but to learn from you. 01:19 God, again, we ask that you be in this place. 01:22 God, be on the airways. 01:24 Those persons that are watching across the world, 01:26 even be with them. 01:28 God, we'll be careful to give you the praise, 01:30 the honor and the glory, so we ask that, Lord, you 01:33 -be the teacher. 01:34 This is your classroom. 01:35 The Bible is your textbook. 01:38 We give you the praise this evening, we pray. 01:42 Hide me behind your cross, forgive me of my sin, 01:44 remove any and all distractions, in Jesus' 01:47 name we pray. 01:48 Let the redeemed of the Lord say Amen. 01:51 And Amen. 01:52 I need you to know that this first week, Saturday 01:55 night, Sunday night, Wednesday night, many of 01:59 you have e-mailed us, you have Facebooked us, you 02:01 have tried to communicate with us, with our team, 02:04 with this big question regarding death. 02:08 In fact, when we shared with you on Sunday night, 02:10 it was almost like a light bulb went off, when we 02:13 started going through the four groups of people at 02:15 Jesus' second coming, the righteous dead, 02:19 the righteous living, the wicked living and 02:21 the wicked dead, and where we discovered, let me see how 02:24 good you are tonight, what happened at Jesus' second 02:26 coming with the righteous dead? 02:28 They rise what? 02:29 Come on, you all, they rise what? 02:32 (Aud: First.) Then we recognize the righteous living 02:33 are caught up to meet the Lord in the what? 02:35 (Aud: Air.) Then we discovered from the Word of God 02:37 that the wicked living die at the brightness of his what? 02:40 (Aud: Coming.) So then you have to strike the pose, 02:42 to make sure I see the light, that I can look at the light, 02:44 that I don't die at the brightness 02:46 of the light. 02:46 Do I have a witness in this place? 02:48 And then we have the wicked dead that remain what? 02:50 (Aud: Dead.) We then posed the question to you, 02:53 if, in fact, the righteous went to heaven immediately 03:00 at death here on this earth, who would Jesus be coming back 03:04 for at his second coming? 03:06 There would be no dead in Christ to rise first. 03:09 Who would rise first, because if they were already 03:11 in heaven, who would Jesus be coming back for? 03:15 When we said that, it was like a light bulb went off. 03:20 That's what the Word of God does for you. 03:23 It illuminates you and opens you up to see different things 03:25 in his Word that you perhaps have 03:27 never seen before. 03:30 That's why I love the Word of God. 03:32 Do I have some other lovers of the Word of God tonight. 03:35 So with that, a lot of questions have come in. 03:36 Pastor Byrd, then what is death? 03:41 What happens at death? 03:44 Because, Pastor Byrd, I want to know what I believe, 03:48 why I believe it, and then I want to know 03:54 where it's found. 03:55 So based on your questions, the demands of your questions, 04:00 we're ready to answer the question, what happens 04:04 at death? 04:08 Let's go to work. 04:09 What a mighty God we serve. 04:11 Angels bow before him. 04:14 Heaven and earth adore him. 04:18 What a mighty God we serve. 04:22 We recognize that God is omnipotent, which means God 04:28 is all powerful. 04:30 God is omniscient, which means God is all knowing. 04:34 God is also omnipresent, which means God 04:38 is everhere at the same time. 04:41 God is sovereign, which means God can do what 04:44 he wants, when he wants, where he wants, and how he wants 04:49 and God doesn't have to ask you and me for permission 04:51 to do what he wants. 04:53 I can't get a witness in this place. 04:56 God is also timeless, which means God was always here, 05:01 always has been here, always will be here, always 05:06 was, always is and, because God is timeless, 05:12 God is immortal, which means God can't die. 05:17 God is uncreated. 05:20 God is self-existent. 05:23 God has no beginning and God has no end. 05:27 Now, on the other hand, we as human beings, 05:32 we're mortal. 05:33 Everybody say mortal. 05:34 When we say we're mortal, we're saying then, 05:37 we are subject to death. 05:40 Mortal means subject to death. 05:45 Mortuary means house of death. 05:49 Mortician means a person who works with the dead, 05:53 and mortgage means you will pay it until you're dead. 06:02 You like that one, don't you? Amen. 06:08 But God is infinite. 06:10 Humans, we are finite. 06:12 God is eternal. 06:15 Humans are transitory. 06:17 God is immortal. 06:19 Humans are mortal. 06:22 No human lives forever. 06:25 Humans are subject to death. 06:28 The Bible is clear in Ecclesiastes 9:5-6: 06:32 "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead 06:35 know not know any thing." 06:38 James 4:14 in the New Testament describes the lives 06:42 of humans as a vapor that appears for a little time 06:45 and then vanishes away. 06:47 Now, the Bible teaches in Genesis 1:1. 06:53 We've gone there quite a bit. 06:55 The Word of God says in Genesis 1:1, in the what, 06:57 everybody? 06:59 In the beginning who, everybody? 07:02 God created the heavens and the what? 07:05 (Aud: Earth.) Now, we recognize there are how many days 07:09 in a week? 07:10 Come on, how many days in a week? 07:11 Don't be afraid of that, that's not a trick question. 07:14 Come on, we're going to talk more about that. 07:17 There are seven days in a week. 07:19 But the Bible teaches in Genesis 1:26 that on day 07:23 six God created man. 07:26 We know this because in Genesis 1:26, we're read it 07:29 all week, the Bible says, and God said, let whom, 07:33 everybody? 07:35 Come on, you all. 07:36 Let whom? 07:37 Let us make what? 07:38 (Aud: Man.) After our own what? Image. 07:41 After our own what? 07:42 Likeness. 07:43 Which means that text tells us a lot. 07:46 Number one, the text tells us that God, as we shared 07:49 with you, is three in one, the Father, the Son, 07:52 the Holy Spirit, all working about to bring about 07:55 our salvation. 07:56 The Bible does not say and God said, let me make man. 07:58 The Bible does not say, and God said, let me 08:03 make man in my image. 08:05 But the Bible says, and God said, let us make man in our 08:09 own image after our likeness, and we discover 08:12 this happened on day number six. 08:17 That let's you and me know the Bible believes 08:20 in the followers of Christ. 08:21 Man didn't come from monkeys. 08:28 Man came from God. 08:30 I can't get a witness in this place. 08:33 Man did not come from a big-bang theory. 08:37 Man came from God. 08:41 In the beginning, God created the heavens 08:47 and the what, everybody? 08:48 Earth. 08:49 So how did God create man in the beginning. 08:52 Take your Bible, let's go to the Book of Genesis. 08:55 What book did I say, everybody? 08:57 And we're going to Genesis, Chapter 2 and 09:00 we're going to verse 7. 09:02 Genesis 2:7, the Word of God says to us: 09:17 "And the Lord God formed," whom, everybody? 09:24 "Man of the dust of the" what? 09:27 (Aud: Ground.) "And breathed into his" what, 09:29 everybody? 09:30 "Breathed into his nostrils the breath of" what? 09:32 (Aud: Life.) "And man then became a living" what? 09:35 (Aud: Soul.) Again, repetition deepens 09:37 the impression. 09:38 The text says, and "God formed man of the dust 09:41 of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils 09:44 the breath of life; and man became a living" what? 09:48 (Aud: Soul.) So, how did God create man from the beginning? 09:59 The Bible is clear, dust plus breath equal living 10:01 what? Soul. 10:03 Let's try that again. 10:04 Dust plus what? 10:05 Breath equal living what? 10:06 Soul. 10:07 Now, in order then for there to be a living soul, 10:09 one plus one must equal two. 10:11 Dust of the ground plus breath of life, man becomes 10:12 a living what? 10:13 Soul. 10:14 If I don't have dust, but I have breath, 10:18 do I have a living soul? 10:18 Because zero plus one does not equal two. 10:23 Are you hearing what I'm saying? 10:26 If I have dust, but I don't have breath, do I have 10:29 a living soul? 10:31 No, because one plus zero does not equal two. 10:34 But in order for you, in order for me to be 10:37 a living soul it takes dust plus what, everybody? 10:41 Breath, and man becomes a living what? Soul. 10:45 So if that's what God used to create man, 10:47 dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils 10:49 the breath of life, man became a living soul, 10:52 what, Pastor Byrd, then happens when a man dies? 11:03 What happens when he dies? 11:05 Now, when he became a living soul 11:08 it was dust plus breath. 11:09 So, now what happens when a man dies. 11:12 Let's go to the word of God. 11:14 Go to Ecclesiastes. 11:16 What book did I say, everybody? 11:17 And I want you to go to Ecclesiastes, 11:19 Chapter 12, verse 7. 11:20 Now, remember, we're here as family. 11:21 Fourth night, we know each other by now. 11:22 So if you need help in finding text, 11:24 just ask your neighbor. 11:25 If you see them needing help, help your neighbor as we help 11:27 one another read the Word of God. 11:30 Know what you believe, know why you believe it, 11:34 and know where it's found. 11:35 The Word of God says to us tonight in Ecclesiastes 12:7: 11:37 "Then shall the" what? 11:39 "Dust return to the" what? 11:41 (Aud: Earth.) "And the spirit shall return unto" whom? 11:46 (Aud: God.) "Who gave it." 11:47 So then the Bible teaches, at death the dust returns 11:52 to the what? Ground. 11:54 It returns to the earth. 11:55 Then the breath, or the spirit, returns to whom, 11:59 everybody? God. 12:01 Now, remember, it takes dust plus what? 12:04 Breath in order for there to be a living what? 12:07 Soul. 12:08 Now, the Bible says that when an individual dies 12:10 the body returns to what? 12:12 Dust. 12:13 The spirit or the breath returns to whom? God. 12:18 Now, a lot of people try to equate that spirit 12:25 is synonymous with a soul. 12:27 Now, dust of the ground, breath of life, man 12:33 became a living what? 12:34 Soul. 12:36 Body returns to what? 12:38 Dust. 12:39 The spirit or the breath returns to whom? God. 12:42 But a lot of people that spirit with the soul, 12:46 saying that that soul at death returns to God. 12:49 Pastor Byrd, how do we know that the spirit and the breath 12:53 from the nostrils are the same thing? 12:57 Because we let the Bible speak for itself. 13:00 We can't preach what we want to preach or teach 13:02 what we want to teach, we have to preach 13:04 thus sayeth the Lord. 13:05 So how do we know that the spirit and the breath from 13:09 the nostrils are one and the same? 13:12 I'm so glad you asked. 13:13 Take your Bible and go to the Book of Job. 13:18 Job 27:3. 13:22 Because when you leave here, you've told your friends, 13:32 you told your family, you told your coworkers, 13:34 I heard this preacher say that we don't go 13:38 to heaven straight at death, but we only go to heaven 13:40 at the second coming of Jesus when the dead of Christ rise 13:42 first and we which are alive remain are caught up 13:44 to meet the Lord in the air. 13:46 Now he's told me how it works. 13:48 I understand how it works. 13:49 Then you're going to be able to tell them. 13:51 Come on, say Amen. 13:51 Now Job 27:3, the Word of God says: "All the while 13:56 my breath is in me, and the spirit of God 14:06 is in my nostrils." 14:11 Body returns to what? 14:12 Dust. 14:14 The spirit, the breath which is in my nostrils 14:18 returns to God and the soul ceases to exist. 14:26 You can't have a soul because you don't have dust 14:28 and breath and so you can't have a soul. 14:32 Two things happen at death, the body returns to what? 14:34 Dust and the spirit returns to whom? 14:37 God. 14:38 God formed man of the dust of the ground, 14:40 breathed in his nostrils the breath of life, 14:42 man became a living soul. 14:44 When you don't have dust, when you don't have breath, 14:46 the soul ceases to exist. 14:48 God formed man of the dust and made a body. 14:52 He then combined his breath with this body and man 14:55 became a living what? 14:58 Soul. 14:58 The Bible definition for soul is body plus breath equal 15:00 living soul. 15:04 A living, breathing being is a soul. 15:07 The Bible in the text, friends of mine, is saying 15:09 that we are souls. 15:11 The truth of the matter is, we don't have souls, 15:15 but we are souls. 15:18 Let's rewind. 15:25 I've got to make sure you get it. 15:27 Dust of the what? Ground. 15:30 Breath of what? Life. 15:32 Man became a living what? 15:33 Soul. 15:34 When the individual dies the body returns to what? 15:36 Dust. 15:38 The spirit or the breath from the nostrils returns 15:41 to whom? God. 15:42 And the soul ceases to what? Exist. 15:45 The reality is we are souls and that we don't have souls. 15:57 Who told you otherwise? 16:04 Okay, Pastor Byrd, I've got it now. 16:06 Well, do souls die? 16:12 Let's get some more Word. 16:13 Know what you believe, know why you believe it, 16:15 and know where it's found. 16:16 Go to Ezekiel. 16:17 What book did I say, everybody? 16:19 Old Testament, Ezekiel 18:4. 16:23 The Word of God says to us tonight: "Behold, all souls 16:37 are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the 16:42 soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, 16:47 it shall" what, everybody? 16:49 (Aud: Die.) Now, we've studied the Word of God, 16:51 that all of us have sinned, all of us have come short 16:55 of the glory of God. 16:57 If you say you have no sin in you, you're lying, 17:00 because all of us have sin and come short 17:03 of the glory of God. 17:04 There are no big I's, not little you's the ground 17:06 is level at the cross. 17:08 I have shared with everybody up in this place 17:10 that we all are an ex-something, so quit 17:13 looking down at somebody else, because you don't 17:16 live in a glass house. 17:17 I wish I had a witness in this place. 17:20 All of us have sinned. 17:22 All sinners need a savior. 17:25 I get excited because Jesus is my savior. 17:28 Jesus died to set me free. 17:29 The text says that the soul that sinneth, it shall what? 17:38 Die. I'm a soul. 17:41 I don't have a soul, we are souls. 17:43 Body plus breath equal living soul. 17:45 When a person dies, body returns to dust, 17:48 spirit returns to God, soul ceases to exist. 17:51 The soul that sins, it shall what? Die. 18:00 Dead people are dead. 18:04 Let me try that one more time. 18:11 You know, I try to be flowery with this, but, you know. 18:13 Dead people, you all, are dead. 18:23 Dead people can't go back and haunt houses. 18:28 I'm preaching the Word of God. 18:37 Go with me to the Book of Job. 18:40 Job, Chapter 7. 18:42 Come on, let's get some Word. 18:44 Know what you believe, know why you believe it, 18:46 and know where it's found. 18:47 Job 7:9, the Word of God says to us tonight: 18:55 "As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he 19:01 that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. 19:04 He shall return no more to his house, neither shall 19:13 his place know him any more." 19:14 My house is haunted. 19:17 Big Mama was talking to me. 19:21 You ate too much before you go to bed. 19:26 Go to sleep. 19:30 The dead do not come back and haunt your house. 19:38 Let's get some more Word. 19:39 Go to Job 14. 19:41 Do dead people know what their loved ones 19:45 are earth are doing? 19:47 Job 14:12: "So man lieth down, and riseth not: 19:57 till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, 19:58 nor be raised out of their sleep." 20:01 Go to verse 21: "His sons come to honour, 20:03 and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, 20:05 but he perceiveth it not of them." 20:09 Dead people don't know what you and I 20:12 are doing right now. 20:16 Because dead people are what, everybody? 20:18 Dead. 20:19 Dead people are what? 20:20 Dead. 20:21 Let's get some more Word. 20:22 Go to Book of Psalms, Psalms 6:5, the Word of God 20:33 says: "For in death there is no remembrance of thee: 20:37 in the grave who shall give thee thanks?" The dead do 20:41 not remember or give thanks because the dead are what, 20:44 everybody? 20:47 Dead. 20:48 Let's get some more Word. 20:48 Go to Psalms 115:17, the Word of God says to us 20:58 tonight: "The dead praise not the Lord, neither any 21:04 that go down into silence." 21:09 Oh, we had a good time at the revival. 21:11 We were blessing and praising the name 21:13 of the Lord and Mama and Daddy, they dead, they were 21:15 praising him too. 21:16 No they weren't. 21:18 "The dead praise not the Lord, neither any that go down 21:20 in silence." So my attitude is, you know I'm going to praise 21:23 God when I get to heaven, but I ain't going to wait 21:25 to praise him when I get to heaven. 21:28 I can't praise him when I'm dead. 21:31 So I might as well praise him while I'm alive. 21:33 Are you hearing what I'm saying? 21:34 So that's why the psalmist said, But we will bless 21:38 the Lord. 21:39 Verse 18: "From this time forth and for evermore. 21:42 Praise the Lord." The dead cannot praise the Lord. 21:48 Well, Pastor, can dead people think? 21:51 Psalms 146:4, can dead people think? 22:02 Psalms 146:4, if you have it, let me hear you say Amen. 22:07 The Word says: "His breath goeth forth, 22:10 he returneth to his earth; in that very day 22:15 his thoughts perish." 22:19 Well, they're thinking about me. 22:22 No, they're not. 22:25 Dead people are what, everybody? 22:27 Dead. 22:28 At death the body returns to what? 22:30 Dust. 22:31 The spirit returns to whom? 22:32 God. 22:33 The soul ceases to what? 22:34 Exist. 22:37 We are souls, we don't what? 22:40 Have souls. 22:41 The dead can't go back and haunt houses. 22:43 The dead do not know what their loved ones 22:46 on earth are doing. 22:47 The dead do not remember or give thanks. 22:49 The dead do not praise the Lord. 22:51 The dead cannot think because dead people are dead. 22:58 Let's go to Isaiah 38:18-19. 23:07 The Word of God says in Isaiah 38:18-19: 23:13 "For the grave cannot praise thee, 23:20 death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit 23:25 cannot hope for thy truth. 23:28 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, 23:31 as I do this day: the father to the children 23:33 shall make known thy truth." 23:36 Friends of mine, the dead, unlike you and me, 23:40 they cannot learn truth. 23:43 They cannot learn what you and I are learning 23:45 from the Word of God. 23:47 Praise God that we are alive. 23:50 Do I have a witness in this place? 23:52 But dead people are dead. 23:56 Who told you Big Mama was looking down at you? 23:59 Who told you PawPaw was talking to you? 24:02 Who told you your house was haunted? 24:06 That is not true. 24:07 The Word of God says that when an individual dies, 24:10 their body returns to dust, the spirit returns to God, 24:13 the soul ceases to exist, because dead people 24:18 are dead people. 24:20 Let me show you how this works together. 24:23 At Jesus' second coming there are going to be how 24:24 many groups of people? 24:25 Four primary groups of people. 24:26 Remember, we studied from the Word of God 24:28 that there will primarily be two resurrections. 24:30 There will be a resurrection of the righteous 24:32 that happens at the second coming, then we 24:34 have one thousand years, or the millennium, and at 24:37 the end of the millennium there'll be a resurrection 24:39 of the wicked. 24:41 At Jesus' second coming, the Bible is clear that the 24:43 righteous dead rise what? 24:44 First. 24:45 The righteous living are caught up to meet 24:47 the Lord in the what? 24:48 Air. 24:48 The wicked living die at the brightness of Jesus' 24:50 what? 24:51 (Aud: Coming.) The wicked dead remain what? 24:53 Dead. 24:53 One thousand years they're dead, until the end of the 24:58 one thousand years and then the resurrection 25:00 of the wicked. 25:01 At his first coming Jesus came to save his people. 25:06 At his second coming Jesus is coming to get his people. 25:09 At his third coming Jesus is coming back with his people. 25:13 But Satan is a liar. 25:16 He's a bold-faced liar. 25:18 He wants people to believe that the dead are alive 25:21 and can be contacted. 25:23 The living know that they shall die, but the dead 25:26 know not anything. 25:27 Let's me tell you all something. 25:29 Don't be caught up in all this spiritualism 25:32 and superstitious foolishness. 25:34 You better leave voodoo, these Ouija boards and all 25:39 these crazy spirits alone. 25:42 That's why I don't ask everybody to pray for me. 25:45 Everybody can't lay hands on me, because if you are 25:47 not of the spirit of God, you need to get 25:50 from around me. 25:51 I wish I had a witness in this place. 25:54 Isaiah 8:20 is clear to the law and to the testimony. 25:58 If they speak not according to this Word, it is because 26:02 there is no life in them. 26:05 Let me tell you something, Satan knows the Bible 26:07 better than you... 26:08 It's an age-old question. 26:10 What happens after we die? 26:11 The Breath of Life gift offer this week is "What 26:13 the Bible Says About Death."
