Morning. 04:28 So somebody says, that makes sense. 04:31 But what does this mean, the Sabbath is an holy 04:33 convocation? 04:35 When we say holy, we mean set aside. 04:38 We mean set apart. 04:39 When we say a convocation, if you look up the word 04:43 convocation in the dictionary, convocation means an 04:46 assembly or a coming together. 04:50 Are you hearing what I'm saying. 04:51 So then the Sabbath, if it's a holy convocation, 04:54 it is a holy assembly. 04:56 It is a holy coming together. 04:59 The people of God on God's Sabbath understand that 05:02 they rest from all their work because the Sabbath is blessed 05:06 and the Sabbath is sanctified. 05:07 But more than that, the Sabbath is a holy convocation. 05:12 It is a holy coming together. 05:13 It is a holy assembly. 05:15 So, understand, because Pastor Byrd, loves him some God, 05:19 because Pastor Byrd loves him some Jesus, and Pastor 05:23 Byrd is desirous of loving the Lord not the way Pastor Byrd 05:26 wants to love the Lord, but I want to love the Lord the way 05:29 the Lord wants me to love him. 05:30 I rest on the Sabbath because the Sabbath is blessed 05:39 and the Sabbath is sanctified. 05:42 And then the Bible says the Sabbath is a holy convocation, 05:46 which means Pastor Byrd, becomes I'm loving God the 05:49 way God wants to be loved, on God's Sabbath because it's 05:51 a holy convocation, I come in God's house on God's Sabbath. 05:57 I come in God's church on God's Sabbath because 06:01 God's Sabbath is a holy convocation and because it's 06:05 a holy convocation, I can't be down watching the Hawks 06:08 play basketball on the Sabbath, but I come in God's 06:11 house on God's Sabbath, God's church, God's holy 06:15 convocation, to lift my hands and bless him. 06:20 All right, let's get some more word. 06:24 We've done Genesis, we've done Exodus, 06:26 we've done Leviticus. 06:28 Let's go now to Isaiah. 06:30 What book did I say, everybody? 06:32 Now I'm going to give you everything from the word 06:34 of God tonight. 06:35 I'm not going to give you Pastor Byrd's feelings, 06:37 Pastor Byrd's opinion. 06:38 I'm going to give you the word of God. 06:42 And notice, when you came in tonight we did not pass out a 06:45 bunch of Bibles least somebody say, oh, that's from 06:48 their own Bibles. 06:49 They gave out their own Bible. 06:50 No, no, no. 06:52 You came in tonight with your own Bible. 06:54 Do I have a witness in this place? 06:55 All right. "Remain. 09:41 And it shall come to" what? 09:43 "Pass, that from one new moon to another, 09:45 and from one " what? 09:47 "Sabbath to another, shall all" what? 09:49 "Flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.," 09:55 The Bible says in the new heavens, the new earth, that 09:58 means when we get to heaven. 10:00 God is clear that all flesh on his Sabbath shall come 10:05 and do what, everybody? 10:06 Worship him. 10:09 Now, can God change his Sabbath? No. 10:11 Because in Malachi 3:6 God says, "I am the" what? 10:15 "Lord, I change" what? 10:18 "Not."Psalms 89:34 says, "My covenant will I not 10:25 break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. 10:28 I am the Lord, I change not."That's what is so 10:34 simple, it's so clear. 10:35 Well, if God the Father didn't change his laws, 10:38 well, because most people don't see the seventh day as 10:42 the Sabbath and they don't come worship God in his church 10:45 and from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday keep it holy, 10:47 Jesus must have changed God's law. 10:50 Let's see if Jesus did. 10:52 Go to the book of Matthew. 10:53 Let's get some New Testament now, because, everybody, 10:56 somebody's sitting there saying, well, that's Old 10:58 Testament, Pastor Byrd, that's was good, you know. 11:00 You know the scriptures, you've given it to us, but 11:03 that's Old Testament. 11:04 So let me give you some New. 11:05 Go to the book of Matthew. Chapter 5:17. 11:12 Did Jesus change the law? 11:14 Matthew 5:17. 11:17 Now remember God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy 11:19 Ghost, that's the Godhead. 11:20 Thou shall have no other gods before me. 11:22 Thou shalt not make any graven image. 11:24 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. 11:26 Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 11:29 Did Jesus the son of God change the law? 11:32 Matthew 5:17, the word of God says to us tonight, "Think 11:36 not that I have come to destroy the law, or the," what? 11:38 "Prophets: I am not come to" do what? "Destroy, 11:41 but to" what, everybody? 11:44 "Fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven 11:45 and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise 11:46 pass from the law, till all be" what? "Fulfilled." 11:51 So Jesus says, I didn't come to 11:53 change the law. 11:54 Go to verse 19. 11:55 "Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least 11:57 commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called," 12:00 what? "Least in the kingdom of," ? 12:02 "Heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same 12:04 shall be called" what? 12:05 "Great in the kingdom of," what, everybody? 12:08 "Heaven."So Jesus is saying, I didn't come to 12:10 change the law. 12:12 I came to fulfill the law. 12:13 And whoever tells anyone else that you don't have to keep 12:17 this law, you shall be called least in the 12:20 kingdom of heaven. 12:21 But if you tell people to keep this law, God's love letter, 12:25 you shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 12:29 Amen? Amen? 12:30 All right, Jesus says in Hebrews 13:8, I'm the same 12:35 yesterday, today and forever. 12:40 So Jesus did not change his law. In fact, 12:45 go with me to the book of Luke. 12:48 Luke 4 and let's see what Jesus felt about the Sabbath. 12:56 Luke 4:16, the word of God says, "And he came to," 13:16 where? "Nazareth, where he had been brought up: 13:19 and, as his custom was, he went into the" what? 13:23 "Synagogue,"which is the church. 13:26 Are you hearing what I'm saying? 13:27 "He went into the synagogue on the" what day? 13:29 "Sabbath day."He went into church. Holy convocation. 13:32 Jesus went into church on the Sabbath day, and "stood up 13:37 for to"do what? "Read. 13:39 And there was delivered unto him the book of the 13:42 prophet Isaiah. 13:42 And when he opened the book, he found the place where it 13:44 was written, the Spirit of the" what? "Lord 13:47 is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach 13:50 the" what? "Gospel to the poor; he hath sent me 13:53 to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to 13:54 the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, 13:56 to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach 13:58 the acceptable year of the Lord."Verse 20, "And he 14:00 closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, 14:06 and sat down. 14:07 And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were 14:10 fastened on him." 14:13 what's going on here? 14:14 Jesus, the Bible says, it was his custom to go into the 14:18 synagogue, the church, holy convocation, on the 14:20 Sabbath day. 14:22 He stood up for to read. 14:23 He preached. 14:24 He did what, everybody? 14:26 He preached. 14:26 How do I know he preached? 14:27 Because the Bible says he opened the book, read the 14:29 book, read the Bible, read from the prophet Isaiah, 14:31 because remember this is the New Testament, so the Bible 14:33 in that day was the Old Testament. 14:38 He reads the word of God. 14:39 Finishes reading and preaching the word of God, sits down; 14:42 gives the Bible back to the minister and sits down. 14:45 Why give it to the minister? 14:46 Because he's the guest preacher on that Sabbath day. 14:50 That's like me saying on the Sabbath day, guess who our 14:53 guest preacher is going to be? 14:53 Jesus. It was Jesus' custom on the seventh day, 14:57 Sabbath, to go to church. 14:59 Pastor Byrd, that makes sense. 15:00 The word of God says, Acts 13:42. 15:04 If you have it let me hear you say Amen. 15:06 The word says, "And when the Jews were gone out of the," 15:10 what? Look at it again, 16:01 verse 42. "When the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, 16:05 the Gentiles besought that these words might 16:07 be preached to them the next Sabbath." what do we 16:09 get from that text? 16:10 Number one we get that the Sabbath was not just for the 16:12 Jews. But the Sabbath was for the Gentiles too. 16:17 The Gentiles wanted the word to be preached to them 16:20 on the Sabbath too. 16:21 Look at verse 43, "Now when the congregation was broken 16:24 up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed 16:26 Paul and Barnabas. 16:28 "Paul and Barnabas. 16:29 Paul came after Jesus' death. 16:31 Which means then that Paul came after Jesus' death, 16:34 even after Jesus died on Calvary and was resurrected, 16:37 the Sabbath was still kept. 16:40 Who speaking to them persuaded them to continue in the grace 16:46 of God, which means then that the Sabbath was not just for 16:50 Jews, the Sabbath was for what? Gentiles. 16:52 The Sabbath was kept even after Jesus' what? Death. 16:57 And then, number three, even under grace. The Sabbath 17:01 was kept, because the Bible says, Paul and Barnabas 17:03 persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. 17:08 So, even under grace, because some folks say, we don't 17:12 have to observe Sabbath, we don't have to keep the 17:14 Sabbath because we're under grace. 17:17 Paul and Barnabas say, even under grace the Sabbath 17:20 was to be kept. 17:21 And the next Sabbath they came with the whole city together 17:24 to hear the word of God. 17:25 Pastor Byrd, I thought the Sabbath was for Jews. No. 17:27 The Sabbath is for me, the Sabbath is for you. 17:31 We're Christians. 17:32 We're followers of Christ. 17:33 We're a Christian community that celebrates Christ but we 17:38 keep God's commandments. 17:41 The Lord says, love me in the way I want to be loved. 17:46 Now, God says, this day or that day may be most 17:50 convenient for you, but it's not about your convenience. 17:54 This day or that day may be what the world and everybody 17:58 else is doing, but it's not about what the world is doing. 18:01 God is saying, love me in the way that I want to be loved. 18:04 I said, remember the Sabbath day, for keep it what? Holy. 18:11 Go to the book of Hebrews. 18:14 Let's get some more. 18:15 Hebrews 4:4. 18:26 This is the clincher for me. 18:28 This is clearly in the New Testament, this is clearly 18:32 after Jesus' death. 18:34 Hebrews 4:4 is the clincher for me. 18:36 The word of God says, "For he spake in a certain place of 18:40 the seventh day on this wise, and God did" what, 18:43 everybody? 18:43 "Rest the seventh day from all his" what? 18:46 "Works." 18:48 And in this place again, if they shall enter into my rest, 18:52 seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, 18:53 and they to whom it was first preached entered not in 18:56 because of" what? 18:58 "Unbelief."Verse 7, "Again, he limiteth a 19:01 certain day, saying in David, Today, after so long a time; 19:04 as it is said, Today if ye will" what? Come on. 19:09 "Hear his" what? 19:10 "Voice, harden not your," what? "Hearts."Somebody, 19:13 you're hearing God's voice right now. God is opening 19:16 his mouth to somebody whose ears are opening 19:18 and you're hearing the word of God right now. 19:21 Verse 8 is the one. 19:25 "For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not 19:29 afterward have spoken of another day. 19:31 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God." 19:38 If the Lord had given another day, if God had changed his 19:43 Sabbath, don't you think he would have told us? 19:49 If Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterwards 19:55 have spoken of another day? 19:58 What I don't understand is when people say, well, Pastor 20:01 Byrd, we don't have to observe the Sabbath. 20:03 We don't have to keep the Sabbath. 20:04 That's done away with. 20:05 Well yet you tell us to keep the remaining nine 20:08 commandments. 20:09 So, let's be logical now. 20:11 The rule of common sense. 20:13 If the Sabbath was done away with, why would the thou shalt 20:17 have no other gods before me, why would thou shalt not make 20:21 unto thee any graven image, why would thou shalt not take 20:24 the name of the Lord thy God in vain, why would thou shalt 20:26 not kill, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not 20:27 commit adultery? 20:28 If the Sabbath commandment was done away with, why 20:31 weren't all the other nine commandments done away with? 20:34 If Adam and Eve had never sinned, there would have been 20:37 no reason for Jesus to come and die on the cross. 20:41 But the reality is before Adam and Eve ever sinned, the 20:46 Sabbath was already instituted in the Garden of Eden. 20:52 So whether or not Adam and Eve sinned or not, the Sabbath was 20:55 already in place. 20:59 So then, that makes no sense to say that because Jesus died 21:05 and he rose, the Sabbath was done away with because if we 21:09 had never sinned Jesus would have never had to come. 21:14 The only reason why Jesus came is because we sinned. 21:19 And before we ever sinned, the Sabbath was already in place. 21:24 If you look at any dictionary and you look up Saturday, 21:28 it's going to say Saturday is the seventh day of the 21:31 week. Amen. 21:35 If you talk to an orthodox Jew--because some people say, 21:39 well, the calendar was changed--if you talk to an 21:42 orthodox Jew, any orthodox Jew will tell you that Saturday is 21:47 the Sabbath.
