? (Theme Song) ? ? Jesus is worthy ? 00:00:00.63\00:00:09.63 ? oh yes, he's worthy ? ? worthy of all... ? 00:00:09.63\00:00:18.86 ? (Music) ? PB: You have your Bibles. 00:00:18.86\00:00:23.40 Let me hear you say Amen. 00:00:23.40\00:00:25.63 Hold your Bible up. 00:00:25.63\00:00:26.36 Good. 00:00:26.36\00:00:29.33 Make sure you're telling the truth in God's church. 00:00:29.33\00:00:31.13 Let's all stand. 00:00:31.13\00:00:32.40 Let's read our scripture for tonight and we're going to 00:00:32.40\00:00:34.63 love letter number three, Exodus 20:7. 00:00:34.63\00:00:41.53 "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, 00:00:41.53\00:00:45.40 for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who taketh his name 00:00:45.40\00:00:51.23 in vain." Love letter number three. 00:00:51.23\00:00:54.06 In other words, when God says thou shalt not take my name in 00:00:54.06\00:00:57.60 vain, God, in essence, is saying don't misuse my name. 00:00:57.60\00:01:03.33 In this life you learn a lot about a person, a lot about 00:01:03.33\00:01:07.93 generations of a person by the issuing of names. 00:01:07.93\00:01:12.36 In fact, you can learn so much about a person by their name, 00:01:12.36\00:01:17.93 even when their names are hard to understand. 00:01:17.93\00:01:22.16 My first name is Carlton. 00:01:22.16\00:01:25.03 And my name means settlement of free men. 00:01:25.03\00:01:30.16 Now, I don't know if that is clearly who I am or I don't 00:01:30.16\00:01:35.36 know if that's clearly understood in what I'm trying 00:01:35.36\00:01:38.16 to be, but that's my name. 00:01:38.16\00:01:41.40 Settlement of free men. 00:01:41.40\00:01:43.93 And I do know that my name means something. 00:01:43.93\00:01:47.20 Do I have a witness in this place? 00:01:47.20\00:01:49.50 Our names speak about being not merely our title or royal 00:01:49.50\00:01:52.93 role that has been appropriated to us, but our 00:01:52.93\00:01:56.80 names speak of our history. 00:01:56.80\00:01:58.76 Our names speak of our heritage. 00:01:58.76\00:02:00.93 I did a little research on my wife's name, Danielle. 00:02:00.93\00:02:03.76 Danielle's name means God is my judge. 00:02:03.76\00:02:06.53 God is my judge. 00:02:06.53\00:02:08.30 Now, I met my wife when we were in college 00:02:08.30\00:02:11.46 together in Alabama. 00:02:11.46\00:02:13.23 As I talked to her, the only thing I knew about my wife 00:02:13.23\00:02:17.13 when I first met her was her name. 00:02:17.13\00:02:19.63 As I talked to her more, I learned more than just her 00:02:19.63\00:02:24.30 name, I learned about her family. 00:02:24.30\00:02:26.60 I was invited to her home. 00:02:26.60\00:02:27.93 I learned something about her heritage, her parentage, her 00:02:27.93\00:02:31.10 grandparents, her friends who surrounded her. 00:02:31.10\00:02:34.63 The more I got to know her, the more a holy 00:02:34.63\00:02:39.80 intimacy developed. 00:02:39.80\00:02:40.80 Do I have a witness in this place? 00:02:40.80\00:02:43.16 She had mercy on me and she married me, Amen. 00:02:43.16\00:02:47.73 Now, when I met her she was just Danielle, 00:02:47.73\00:02:52.43 a young woman in college. 00:02:52.43\00:02:54.66 Her name is still Danielle, but her name takes on 00:02:54.66\00:02:59.60 many different variations now. 00:02:59.60\00:03:01.26 Danielle is my wife, that's one of her names. 00:03:01.26\00:03:06.20 But she's now also our daughter's mother, 00:03:06.20\00:03:09.56 that's another name. 00:03:09.56\00:03:11.10 She's my friend, that's another name. 00:03:11.10\00:03:14.46 She's my confidante, that's another name. 00:03:14.46\00:03:18.10 My companion, another name. 00:03:18.10\00:03:19.73 And if you were here the other night you heard that love 00:03:19.73\00:03:22.46 letter, she's my lover, another name. 00:03:22.46\00:03:26.60 Names open the windows of a soul to see the being of 00:03:26.60\00:03:32.10 a person, and I'm here tonight to let you know that names 00:03:32.10\00:03:36.63 ought not be handled lightly. 00:03:36.63\00:03:38.03 Now, names also speak of generations, of decades, 00:03:38.03\00:03:43.36 historical events. 00:03:43.36\00:03:44.70 Names do change as well, don't they? 00:03:44.70\00:03:48.13 You start off early in the morning as Abram, but by the 00:03:48.13\00:03:51.40 time you reach a new city you've got a new name, 00:03:51.40\00:03:54.30 Abraham. 00:03:54.30\00:03:55.80 Sarai becomes Sarah, and you learn much about people by 00:03:55.80\00:03:58.63 knowing their name. 00:03:58.63\00:03:59.90 In fact, most of you after a while, you want people to call 00:03:59.90\00:04:04.60 you by your name. 00:04:04.60\00:04:05.56 Why? 00:04:05.56\00:04:06.53 Names mean something. 00:04:06.53\00:04:09.23 In Exodus 27 there's a prohibition to the 00:04:09.23\00:04:14.03 misrepresentation of a name. 00:04:14.03\00:04:16.06 Not to ptend, not to be fake, not to be careless, not 00:04:16.06\00:04:21.36 to be funny, but God said don't misrepresent my name. 00:04:21.36\00:04:29.03 If you love me, call me by my right name. 00:04:29.03\00:04:32.53 So what I did was, I sat down and I looked through each word 00:04:32.53\00:04:37.26 in Exodus 20:7 to transliterate these words into 00:04:37.26\00:04:42.10 my own words. 00:04:42.10\00:04:43.20 Then if you read these words in its original text and then 00:04:43.20\00:04:46.56 you took on your own translation, this is now how 00:04:46.56\00:04:49.53 the scripture would read: You are absolutely prohibited in 00:04:49.53\00:04:55.83 taking the name of God upon your lips in empty speech or 00:04:55.83\00:05:00.50 in contemptible behavior and the God who keeps his covenant 00:05:00.50\00:05:05.43 with his people will not keep his commitment with you if you 00:05:05.43\00:05:09.66 misrepresent his name. 00:05:09.66\00:05:13.60 Let me give you a piece of history that may really help 00:05:13.60\00:05:15.96 you appreciate the name of God. 00:05:15.96\00:05:17.86 In Genesis 17 and in Exodus 3, God made himself known to 00:05:17.86\00:05:21.43 Abraham when he said, I am the Lord God Almighty. 00:05:21.43\00:05:27.30 Which is really kind of a definition of who he is, his 00:05:27.30\00:05:30.46 name as being a person. 00:05:30.46\00:05:32.23 In Exodus 3 we're also given a name, and interestingly 00:05:32.23\00:05:35.30 enough, God is not as concerned about pronouns 00:05:35.30\00:05:38.00 as he is with verbs. 00:05:38.00\00:05:40.53 God says, I am that I am. 00:05:40.53\00:05:43.66 So when God gives the name Yahweh, this is the 00:05:43.66\00:05:47.73 translation of I am that I am. 00:05:47.73\00:05:50.60 But you know like I know that Yahweh is really another name 00:05:50.60\00:05:55.43 for the name of God, for when God first gave his name, God 00:05:55.43\00:06:00.33 only gave consonants to his name. Y-H-W-H. 00:06:00.33\00:06:05.03 And his name was off limits to be pronounced. 00:06:05.03\00:06:09.16 The only people who were given license to pronounce God's 00:06:09.16\00:06:13.23 name were the high priests. 00:06:13.23\00:06:15.23 None of the Hebrews or the Israelites, back in the day, 00:06:15.23\00:06:20.90 would ever announce God's name because God's name was holy, 00:06:20.90\00:06:23.53 and he viewed this sacred in such lofty terms that no mere 00:06:23.53\00:06:27.30 human being would be allowed to utter the name of God 00:06:27.30\00:06:31.16 from his human lips. 00:06:31.16\00:06:34.16 The high priests would speak God's name 00:06:34.16\00:06:37.30 only on two occasions. 00:06:37.30\00:06:38.46 The high priests only spoke God's name on the Day of 00:06:38.46\00:06:41.86 Atonement and the Day of Tabernacle. 00:06:41.86\00:06:44.36 But not just anywhere on that day. 00:06:44.36\00:06:47.13 It had to be announced in the temple, for understand that a 00:06:47.13\00:06:51.60 holy name to a holy God is designated to a holy place. 00:06:51.60\00:06:56.76 Before the priest would even begin to utter the name, the 00:06:56.76\00:07:01.03 priest would go through a ceremonial ritual, 00:07:01.03\00:07:03.80 a ritual of purification. 00:07:03.80\00:07:05.76 So when they got to the name they would have purified 00:07:05.76\00:07:09.33 themselves to announce the name. 00:07:09.33\00:07:12.50 The secretaries in the Bible, known as the scribes, who 00:07:12.50\00:07:15.90 wrote the law, all they had to do as copyist was to write on 00:07:15.90\00:07:20.90 a piece of paper with a pen what they had seen in the law. 00:07:20.90\00:07:25.36 But they didn't do that. 00:07:25.36\00:07:27.36 First, they make sure that they got the skin 00:07:27.36\00:07:31.50 of a kosher animal. 00:07:31.50\00:07:32.76 Secondly, they made sure they had special ink formula. 00:07:32.76\00:07:37.30 Thirdly, they purified themselves through the 00:07:37.30\00:07:40.73 washing of their bodies and the reciting of prayers before 00:07:40.73\00:07:43.90 they even began to write the law. 00:07:43.90\00:07:46.26 And so when they got to the name of God, they stopped, 00:07:46.26\00:07:49.53 washed their hands, purified their bodies, and prayed a 00:07:49.53\00:07:53.30 prayer before they even wrote the name of God. 00:07:53.30\00:07:57.46 The name of God is holy. 00:07:57.46\00:07:59.66 The name of God is high. 00:07:59.66\00:08:02.86 The name of God is lofty. 00:08:02.86\00:08:05.66 The name of God is not to be mismanaged by anybody. 00:08:05.66\00:08:10.03 Nobody is to misrepresent the name that has been given to us 00:08:10.03\00:08:15.36 and somebody tonight knows something about the 00:08:15.36\00:08:19.40 misrepresentation of a good name. 00:08:19.40\00:08:22.50 What am I saying? 00:08:22.50\00:08:23.83 Hey, brother, would you, since we've been knowing each other 00:08:23.83\00:08:27.53 for a long time, we home boys and all, would you cosign with 00:08:27.53\00:08:31.53 me to get this car for me because you my homie? 00:08:31.53\00:08:34.56 Friendship instigates agreement and so you enter 00:08:34.56\00:08:41.03 into a contract that is to be cosigned because your credit 00:08:41.03\00:08:45.90 is less than favorable. 00:08:45.90\00:08:47.20 You get the car not because of your signature, but because of 00:08:47.20\00:08:52.26 the cosigned name who has good credit 00:08:52.26\00:08:57.96 and everything goes well. 00:08:57.96\00:08:59.36 So the car is purchased. 00:08:59.36\00:09:01.16 The first months of the car note are paid, but then you 00:09:01.16\00:09:05.03 become delinquent. 00:09:05.03\00:09:07.43 Two calls are made, one to the man who has the car and the 00:09:07.43\00:09:12.73 keys and the one who has cosigned. 00:09:12.73\00:09:15.03 Repossession comes up months later because the contract has 00:09:15.03\00:09:19.73 not been satisfied. 00:09:19.73\00:09:21.83 Guess whose credit gets messed up? 00:09:21.83\00:09:26.06 The one who cosigned, because now his name 00:09:26.06\00:09:30.66 has been misrepresented. 00:09:30.66\00:09:32.73 God says to us, if you love me like you say you love me, you 00:09:32.73\00:09:37.90 are not to misrepresent my name. 00:09:37.90\00:09:41.70 God says, do not misuse my name. 00:09:41.70\00:09:45.66 Years ago I saw the young, stellar, talented golfer who's 00:09:45.66\00:09:51.60 on decline, eclipsing all records. 00:09:51.60\00:09:54.63 Take his driver out, he stands on the tee box and he 00:09:54.63\00:09:59.20 makes a full swing. 00:09:59.20\00:10:01.66 Perfect shot, right down the middle of the fairway, 00:10:01.66\00:10:05.36 down the slope. 00:10:05.36\00:10:06.40 He goes now to his second shot. 00:10:06.40\00:10:08.83 Same approach, hits it on the green. 00:10:08.83\00:10:11.46 The stands, the people, they go berserk. 00:10:11.46\00:10:13.66 He has a makable birdie. 00:10:13.66\00:10:14.93 Mr. Tiger Woods takes now his putter out, stands over the 00:10:14.93\00:10:20.63 ball, he looks, he squats, he focuses, he stands, he checks 00:10:20.63\00:10:27.16 the grain, strokes the ball. 00:10:27.16\00:10:29.93 It's headed right to the cup. 00:10:29.93\00:10:32.06 The stands, you can see people about to burst with elation, 00:10:32.06\00:10:36.00 and then the ball, ever so slightly, breaks to the left, 00:10:36.00\00:10:39.86 then to the right, down it falls, drifts off, 00:10:39.86\00:10:42.96 misses by a hair. 00:10:42.96\00:10:45.16 Tiger Woods yells the name of Jesus Christ. 00:10:45.16\00:10:48.23 He says, "Jesus Christ!" 00:10:48.23\00:10:52.56 I get mad. 00:10:52.56\00:10:55.23 I get upset. 00:10:55.23\00:10:58.00 I would have rather him saying something else. 00:10:58.00\00:11:01.53 I would have rather him use any other word. 00:11:01.53\00:11:06.16 Why? 00:11:06.16\00:11:07.33 Because he devalued the name of the most high God. 00:11:07.33\00:11:12.03 He dishonored the name of the most high God. 00:11:12.03\00:11:15.86 He desecrated the name of the most high God. 00:11:15.86\00:11:20.06 Somebody might be saying, Pastor Byrd, you're taking 00:11:20.06\00:11:22.80 this too seriously. 00:11:22.80\00:11:24.13 It's just a name. 00:11:24.13\00:11:25.43 It's not that deep. 00:11:25.43\00:11:26.90 But you don't want anybody misrepresenting your name. 00:11:26.90\00:11:29.80 Do I have a witness in this place? 00:11:29.80\00:11:32.03 So then the question is, how do we use God's name to make 00:11:32.03\00:11:36.03 sure that we are not in violation of love letter 00:11:36.03\00:11:39.73 number three? 00:11:39.73\00:11:40.96 You see, the misuse of his name, God, Jesus or the Holy 00:11:40.96\00:11:45.90 Ghost, is not to be trivialized because the same 00:11:45.90\00:11:50.26 name, Jesus Christ, that you yell out at missing a putt is 00:11:50.26\00:11:56.06 the same Jesus Christ who can save you from your sins. 00:11:56.06\00:12:02.20 If we reduce God's name to no more than a filler for a 00:12:02.20\00:12:08.10 missed shot, no more than when we slam our finger in the car 00:12:08.10\00:12:12.20 door, no more than when somebody makes us mad, if we 00:12:12.20\00:12:15.50 reduce God's name to this, then we devaluate, we dishonor 00:12:15.50\00:12:20.53 and we desecrate the name of God and God's name 00:12:20.53\00:12:24.83 is not to be misused. 00:12:24.83\00:12:26.43 How dare you misuse the name of God. 00:12:26.43\00:12:31.26 So how do we misuse it? 00:12:31.26\00:12:33.66 Maybe we misuse it in one or two ways. 00:12:33.66\00:12:37.53 Maybe three ways. 00:12:37.53\00:12:38.96 The main way we misuse God's name is through the 00:12:38.96\00:12:42.66 devaluing of his name. 00:12:42.66\00:12:43.93 That we take the name of God and we empty it of its 00:12:43.93\00:12:48.10 substance because of our frequent use of it in a 00:12:48.10\00:12:51.53 devaluated way. 00:12:51.53\00:12:52.46 And we ought not devaluate the name of God this way. 00:12:52.46\00:12:55.36 In the book, "Ten Commandments and Human Rights," the author 00:12:55.36\00:12:59.73 speaks a stern word of warning particularly to those of us 00:12:59.73\00:13:06.06 who preach and teach God's word, those of us who preach 00:13:06.06\00:13:09.40 and teach the word of God. 00:13:09.40\00:13:11.26 The author said, we devaluate the name of God as preachers 00:13:11.26\00:13:17.60 when we show off our intellect of scripture and speak of God 00:13:17.60\00:13:22.46 in terms that the only person who knows the truth about God 00:13:22.46\00:13:26.40 is the one that's standing in the pulpit. 00:13:26.40\00:13:29.40 And in our turn we use scripture and our knowledge 00:13:29.40\00:13:36.06 to sell books, tapes, CDs, sermons and we keep the cash 00:13:36.06\00:13:43.90 flowing in to fill up our coffers. 00:13:43.90\00:13:47.16 In return, we turn God into no more than some deity whose 00:13:47.16\00:13:52.63 role is to give me more stuff in life. 00:13:52.63\00:13:57.36 The continuing danger is this, those who are taught from this 00:13:57.36\00:14:02.73 perspective of God use his name in misrepresenting terms 00:14:02.73\00:14:06.96 are now turning his name into something that is 00:14:06.96\00:14:11.23 magical or winsome. 00:14:11.23\00:14:14.06 Now that we name something in his name and 00:14:14.06\00:14:17.96 proposing that if I predate it or preclude it 00:14:17.96\00:14:21.26 with the name of Jesus, then all these things shall be 00:14:21.26\00:14:25.93 added unto me. 00:14:25.93\00:14:28.73 This is a misrepresentation of God's name. 00:14:28.73\00:14:33.00 God's name is not to be looked upon as some spiritual lucky 00:14:33.00\00:14:38.10 charm to get me stuff. 00:14:38.10\00:14:40.73 God's name is not to be used as some magic wand for me to 00:14:40.73\00:14:47.73 get what I want. 00:14:47.73\00:14:49.53 God is God and his name should not be used as a marketing 00:14:49.53\00:14:56.50 ploy to get what I want. 00:14:56.50\00:14:59.40 Another way we misuse God's name and dishonor his name is 00:14:59.40\00:15:03.86 we carelessly and casually throw God's name out all 00:15:03.86\00:15:08.63 over the place. 00:15:08.63\00:15:10.10 What do I mean? 00:15:10.10\00:15:11.36 Pastor Byrd, the Lord told me to tell you. 00:15:11.36\00:15:17.00 People always coming up to me, the Lord told me to tell you. 00:15:17.00\00:15:23.30 No he didn't, because if he did he would have told me. 00:15:23.30\00:15:26.63 Do I have a witness in this place? 00:15:26.63\00:15:29.53 You see, when the prophets said, back in the day, Old 00:15:29.53\00:15:34.63 Testament, the Lord said it, it always happened that the 00:15:34.63\00:15:40.26 Lord had already said it to them and they had 00:15:40.26\00:15:43.96 repeated what God had already told them. 00:15:43.96\00:15:46.90 And all of you Lord sayers out here, you need to make sure 00:15:46.90\00:15:51.96 that when you say, the Lord said it, that the 00:15:51.96\00:15:55.80 Lord truly said it. 00:15:55.80\00:15:59.26 Better tread softly on that phrase, the Lord said. 00:15:59.26\00:16:02.63 It may make you sound spiritual, it may make you 00:16:02.63\00:16:06.60 sound holy, and the spiritually ignorant may be 00:16:06.60\00:16:10.26 very impressed with that. 00:16:10.26\00:16:11.36 But one of the ways to know that the Lord said it is to 00:16:11.36\00:16:16.03 always make sure that when somebody tells you, well, the 00:16:16.03\00:16:20.83 Lord told me to tell you, make sure you tell them, well, show 00:16:20.83\00:16:25.30 it to me in the word of God, because God still speaks 00:16:25.30\00:16:29.66 through his word. 00:16:29.66\00:16:30.90 Are you hearing what I'm saying? 00:16:30.90\00:16:33.50 God said to the laws and to the testimony, if they speak 00:16:33.50\00:16:36.50 not according to this word, it is because they have 00:16:36.50\00:16:41.16 no light in them. 00:16:41.16\00:16:42.60 If God "has a revelation for you," let me speak 00:16:42.60\00:16:48.23 of myself first. 00:16:48.23\00:16:50.40 As people will often say, Pastor, the Lord told 00:16:50.40\00:16:53.73 me to tell you. 00:16:53.73\00:16:55.63 I quickly tell them these words, I have no offense at 00:16:55.63\00:16:59.50 what you're saying, but if that's all God 00:16:59.50\00:17:01.43 had to say, God could have told me that this morning 00:17:01.43\00:17:05.23 when I spent an hour on my knees. 00:17:05.23\00:17:09.03 I don't need you to tell me that the Lord said I've got 00:17:09.03\00:17:12.93 struggles, because you know what? 00:17:12.93\00:17:16.00 Everybody has struggles. 00:17:16.00\00:17:17.20 You hear folk all the time, the Lord told me you're 00:17:17.20\00:17:19.83 going through it. 00:17:19.83\00:17:21.13 Guess what? 00:17:21.13\00:17:21.90 All of us are going through it. 00:17:21.90\00:17:24.13 The Lord told me you're facing an issue. 00:17:24.13\00:17:26.86 All of us have issues. 00:17:26.86\00:17:28.90 Don't misuse God's name and if it's something you need to say 00:17:28.90\00:17:33.76 to somebody, don't hide behind the holy name of God, 00:17:33.76\00:17:37.36 just say it. 00:17:37.36\00:17:41.50 The Lord said it and we just cower and cringe up. 00:17:41.50\00:17:45.56 Oh, my goodness, the Lord told him that. 00:17:45.56\00:17:47.63 The Lord ain't told him nothing. 00:17:47.63\00:17:50.20 Don't dishonor God's name like that. 00:17:50.20\00:17:53.90 We devalue it. 00:17:53.90\00:17:55.46 We dishonor it, and we desecrate it. 00:17:55.46\00:17:58.60 And this is where that cursing comes from. 00:17:58.60\00:18:01.73 Getting quiet now. 00:18:01.73\00:18:06.00 Desecration. 00:18:06.00\00:18:06.96 Dishonor curses. 00:18:06.96\00:18:08.40 Somebody said that when we curse, well, let me not say, 00:18:08.40\00:18:13.16 when WE curse. 00:18:13.16\00:18:15.73 Somebody said, when you curse, it's because your mind 00:18:15.73\00:18:18.86 misfired, but we desecrate the name of God. 00:18:18.86\00:18:24.86 We dishonor the name of God. 00:18:24.86\00:18:27.76 We devalue the name of God. 00:18:27.76\00:18:30.56 So, Pastor, how do we then honor the name of God? 00:18:30.56\00:18:37.53 I'm glad you asked. 00:18:37.53\00:18:39.50 It might be the first place that we start. 00:18:39.50\00:18:42.86 We need to learn how to reverence his name. 00:18:42.86\00:18:45.40 To understand what his name is, and what his 00:18:45.40\00:18:50.96 name represents. 00:18:50.96\00:18:52.20 For God in his name discloses himself to us that we might 00:18:52.20\00:18:58.40 know him through his name. 00:18:58.40\00:19:01.13 Through his name God protects us. 00:19:01.13\00:19:04.20 Through his name God provides for us. 00:19:04.20\00:19:07.66 Through his name God is the one who grants us peace. 00:19:07.66\00:19:11.96 Through his name God gives us salvation. 00:19:11.96\00:19:15.86 Understand, demons lose their power at the name of Jesus. 00:19:15.86\00:19:22.56 Every tongue must confess at the name of Jesus. 00:19:22.56\00:19:25.10 Every knee must bow at the name of Jesus. 00:19:25.10\00:19:27.46 Angels fall prostrate at the name of Jesus. 00:19:27.46\00:19:31.16 Death loses its sting at the name of Jesus. 00:19:31.16\00:19:35.16 Graves give up victory at the name of Jesus. 00:19:35.16\00:19:40.43 Satan has no say so at the name of Jesus. 00:19:40.43\00:19:45.70 So be careful how you use God's name. 00:19:45.70\00:19:48.73 Don't just throw it around. 00:19:48.73\00:19:50.40 Honor it by reestablishing it to its rightful place. 00:19:50.40\00:19:54.03 Another way tonight we can honor the name of God is not 00:19:54.03\00:19:58.46 just to be conscientious of it in speech, but remember this 00:19:58.46\00:20:02.03 word in Exodus 20:7, it's not just about conversation, but 00:20:02.03\00:20:06.40 it's also about conduct. 00:20:06.40\00:20:09.00 That we can also profane the name of God through our 00:20:09.00\00:20:13.03 erroneous conduct, our bad actions and our bad attitude. 00:20:13.03\00:20:16.96 For if you have a name as a Christian, you're last name 00:20:16.96\00:20:22.43 may be Smith, it may be Johnson, it may be Williams, 00:20:22.43\00:20:25.00 it may be Wilson, it may be Byrd, but remember, all of us 00:20:25.00\00:20:28.60 had our names changed when we came to know who Christ was 00:20:28.60\00:20:34.13 and who he is to each and every one of us. 00:20:34.13\00:20:36.26 I'm so glad that God changed my name. 00:20:36.26\00:20:40.33 Our names have been changed, which means we're no longer 00:20:40.33\00:20:44.70 Byrd, we're no longer Wilson, we're no longer Williams, 00:20:44.70\00:20:47.66 Smith or Jones. 00:20:47.66\00:20:48.73 Our name is Christian. 00:20:48.73\00:20:50.56 We have been bought with a price. 00:20:50.56\00:20:53.23 That means we are Christlike in our conduct, our 00:20:53.23\00:20:56.60 conversations and our character. 00:20:56.60\00:20:59.83 There are three places where you can remember the name and 00:20:59.83\00:21:03.40 reestablish its holiness. 00:21:03.40\00:21:04.86 What are those three places, Pastor? 00:21:04.86\00:21:06.73 The first place is in marriage. 00:21:06.73\00:21:07.76 Everybody say marriage. 00:21:07.76\00:21:09.03 For when we commit to one another in marriage, we make 00:21:09.03\00:21:13.50 the marital covenant before God and, unfortunately, more 00:21:13.50\00:21:16.26 people seem to be more interested in the people that 00:21:16.26\00:21:20.23 are there at their wedding than the God that is there. 00:21:20.23\00:21:22.70 When we commit to one another in marriage it becomes 00:21:22.70\00:21:25.56 a covenant. 00:21:25.56\00:21:26.43 And guess whose name binds the covenant together? 00:21:26.43\00:21:30.43 I now pronounce you husband and wife. 00:21:30.43\00:21:33.06 And what God has joined together let no man, or woman, 00:21:33.06\00:21:40.36 put asunder. 00:21:40.36\00:21:42.13 We can honor God's name in the covenant of marriage. 00:21:42.13\00:21:46.30 Somebody says, Pastor Byrd, that excludes me because I'm 00:21:46.30\00:21:49.46 not married and, guess what? 00:21:49.46\00:21:50.43 I ain't through either. 00:21:50.43\00:21:51.50 Come on, say Amen. 00:21:51.50\00:21:53.00 A second place you can honor his name that binds you is 00:21:53.00\00:21:57.03 right there in the baptistry, at baptism. 00:21:57.03\00:22:01.16 I'm amazed at the people who don't really understand what 00:22:01.16\00:22:03.76 takes place at baptism. 00:22:03.76\00:22:05.30 What goes on in baptism? 00:22:05.30\00:22:07.16 There's an outward symbol of inward cleansing. 00:22:07.16\00:22:10.70 When you go down under the water you are to go into that 00:22:10.70\00:22:14.80 water trying to get as deep in that water as you can. 00:22:14.80\00:22:17.93 God, bury me in this water. 00:22:17.93\00:22:18.63 God, let me get under this water, because Jesus died for 00:22:18.63\00:22:24.53 you and Jesus was buried for you. 00:22:24.53\00:22:27.30 And then when you get up, you ought to fling your head back. 00:22:27.30\00:22:32.73 You know, we know how to do that. 00:22:32.73\00:22:35.43 Fling it about and say, because he got up out of the 00:22:35.43\00:22:38.83 grave for me, now I can get up and walk in the 00:22:38.83\00:22:44.00 newness of life. 00:22:44.00\00:22:45.53 But I'm not through. 00:22:45.53\00:22:46.80 The preacher then lifts his hands up and says, brother and 00:22:46.80\00:22:52.26 sister, in obedience to God's command, I baptize you in the 00:22:52.26\00:22:56.13 name of the Father, in the name of the Son, in the name 00:22:56.13\00:23:00.56 of the Holy Ghost, and at that moment God the Father, God the 00:23:00.56\00:23:05.30 Son, God the Holy Ghost fill you up, bind you up and make 00:23:05.30\00:23:10.60 you whole and complete. 00:23:10.60\00:23:12.43 And you ought to live up to the baptism and choose to live 00:23:12.43\00:23:17.00 your life in such a way that the people in the community 00:23:17.00\00:23:23.26 know that you haven't just been baptized, but you've been 00:23:23.26\00:23:25.70 filled by the presence of the name that is above 00:23:25.70\00:23:29.23 all other names. 00:23:29.23\00:23:30.56 Pastor Byrd, I ain't married, I've been baptized, but 00:23:30.56\00:23:36.63 I ain't through yet. 00:23:36.63\00:23:38.76 The Lord's supper. 00:23:38.76\00:23:42.90 I'm amazed at Christians who don't understand what 00:23:42.90\00:23:46.80 communion, the Lord's supper, is all about. 00:23:46.80\00:23:49.36 Somebody is saying, Pastor, well, preach us. 00:23:49.36\00:23:51.83 Okay, I'm trying to. 00:23:51.83\00:23:52.80 The Lord's supper is more than us just coming in and getting 00:23:52.80\00:23:55.40 a wafer and some grape juice. 00:23:55.40\00:23:57.66 Understand that when the table is spread, the bread and the 00:23:57.66\00:24:02.13 juice are just symbols that represent the presence of 00:24:02.13\00:24:07.10 Jesus, his broken body, his shed blood, in our 00:24:07.10\00:24:12.36 acts of worship. 00:24:12.36\00:24:14.03 And Jesus is present, because if we are believers Christ is 00:24:14.03\00:24:19.70 with us in the present tense of the Holy Ghost. 00:24:19.70\00:24:23.43 When we come to that table and we take that bread and we take 00:24:23.43\00:24:29.10 that cup and we say, this is his body that was broken for 00:24:29.10\00:24:34.76 us, and we take it and we eat it, we are not just eating a 00:24:34.76\00:24:39.60 wafer, but we are symbolically consuming the will of Jesus 00:24:39.60\00:24:43.96 Christ in our lives. 00:24:43.96\00:24:46.13 And when we drink the cup, we are symbolically drinking the 00:24:46.13\00:24:50.03 blood that has cleansed us from our sins. 00:24:50.03\00:24:52.86 What can wash away my sins? 00:24:52.86\00:24:55.06 Nothing but the blood of Jesus. 00:24:55.06\00:24:58.00 What can make me whole again? 00:24:58.00\00:25:00.13 Nothing but the blood of Jesus. 00:25:00.13\00:25:02.70 And then when we're through, the word says, do this in 00:25:02.70\00:25:08.03 remembrance of me. 00:25:08.03\00:25:11.13 And me is always a name. 00:25:11.13\00:25:15.03 And brothers and sisters, when you come to the Lord's house 00:25:15.03\00:25:19.10 and you come to the Lord's table, you're not just 00:25:19.10\00:25:22.23 conducting a ritual of ceremony, but you are 00:25:22.23\00:25:25.23 realizing the healing power of Jesus to walk in your life. 00:25:25.23\00:25:30.50 Talk about a healing service? 00:25:30.50\00:25:33.26 When you sit at the table, the Lord begins to heal. 00:25:33.26\00:25:36.26 That's why some of us know we should have been cut off a 00:25:36.26\00:25:40.56 long time ago. 00:25:40.56\00:25:42.10 Some of us should be dead, buried in our grave, and the 00:25:42.10\00:25:45.70 only reason why we're able to function is because there is 00:25:45.70\00:25:50.16 healing at the table. 00:25:50.16\00:25:51.83 There's deliverance at the table. 00:25:51.83\00:25:54.56 There's salvation at the table. 00:25:54.56\00:25:57.16 But then, there's another table prepared for us. 00:25:57.16\00:26:00.23 There's another table prepared for us in God's great heaven. 00:26:00.23\00:26:04.40 Because the Bible says that eyes hasn't seen, neither ears 00:26:04.40\00:26:08.30 heard the things that God has prepared for them 00:26:08.30\00:26:11.90 that love him. 00:26:11.90\00:26:13.36 And I'm going to sit at the welcome table. 00:26:13.36\00:26:15.70 I'm going to feast on milk and honey. 00:26:15.70\00:26:18.20 I'm going to sing and never get tired one of these days. 00:26:18.20\00:26:23.06 But there's another reason we ought to hold to his name and 00:26:23.06\00:26:26.93 that is tonight because his name is our passport to enter 00:26:26.93\00:26:32.80 into the kingdom of God. 00:26:32.80\00:26:34.80 Acts 4:12, I don't have time to read it but take my word 00:26:34.80\00:26:38.13 for it, it says that there is no other name under heaven 00:26:38.13\00:26:43.10 whereby we can be saved, saved by the name of Jesus. 00:26:43.10\00:26:49.30 Satan shrinks at his name. 00:26:49.30\00:26:55.80 You've go to understand, his name is holy. 00:26:55.80\00:26:59.26 You can't just be calling his name to call his name. 00:26:59.26\00:27:02.46 You've got to call his name for a holy purpose. 00:27:02.46\00:27:06.36 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in, what, 00:27:06.36\00:27:10.20 everybody? 00:27:10.20\00:27:11.46 In vain. 00:27:11.46\00:27:12.76 His name is holy. 00:27:12.76\00:27:16.00 PB: Thank you very much for your continued support to 00:27:16.00\00:27:20.10 Breath of Life. 00:27:20.10\00:27:21.53 The reality is we simply couldn't do it without you. 00:27:21.53\00:27:24.56 We need your continued prayers and support through your 00:27:24.56\00:27:28.53 financial gifts to this ministry. 00:27:28.53\00:27:30.90 Remember, give and it shall be given to you. 00:27:30.90\00:27:34.76 Pressed down, shaken together, running over. 00:27:34.76\00:27:37.50 May God bless you. 00:27:37.50\00:27:39.70 God's Law has stirred controversy in recent years, 00:27:45.86\00:27:48.60 so are the Ten Commandments out of date?
