Jesus gives a directive
that I want us to examine today.

There are three principles I
want us to learn and the first

principle is that we
have a strange request.

Everybody say,
a strange request.

Look at verse 28 again,
the word of God says, "And when
00:06:28.73\00:06:32.50
he had thus spoken,
he went before, ascending
00:06:32.50\00:06:37.03
up to Jerusalem."

Verse 29: "And it came to
pass, when he was come nigh to
00:06:38.00\00:06:40.96
Bethphage and Bethany, at
the mount called the mount of

Olives, he sent," how
many of his disciples?

Now what did he send them to do?

Go to verse 30, the Bible
says: "Go ye into the village

a colt tied,
whereon yet never man sat."

In other words,
nobody's ever ridden this colt.

Strange request. Why?

This request is strange
because Jesus sends them into

a place to do a strange thing.

He sends them into a strange
place to get something that

does not even belong to them.

Brothers and sisters,
know this, God will send you in

strange places, but in the
midst of that strange place,

believe me, God
knows what he's doing.

God has asked you to go

into strange places.

God has you in a strange

Let's break it down.

The colt is tied up.

Now, in a sense the colt
symbolizes the areas in our

lives that are tied up,
our gifts, our talents, our

dreams, our purposes.

This in a sense is
what the colt symbolizes.

Understand, the colt is
tied up and it is a mental thing

for the colt because the
owner of the colt has taken the
00:08:22.76\00:08:25.96
rope, put it around the pole
so the colt really isn't tied

up, the rope is just
around the pole, but the colt
00:08:30.26\00:08:34.66
thinks he's tied up.
00:08:34.66\00:08:37.00
So because he thinks
he's tied up, he acts tied up.

But if he really, somebody
knows what I'm talking about,

but if he really wanted to get
away, he could but it's really

a mind game.

Some of us think we're tied up
in some stuff, but it's really

just a mind game, because
if we really wanted out in the

name of Jesus, we could get out.

Now watch this.

The colt being tied
up symbolizes our gifts,

symbolizes our purpose, our
destiny, what God has for me.

Remember now, the Bible
says that the colt is alive, but

the post he's
tied to has no life.

He's a live thing, but
he's tied to something dead.

You all don't
hear what I'm saying.

And I want you to understand,
brothers and sisters,

something very clear here.

A lot of us would be better
off in our lives if we weren't

tied to dead things.

The reason why your purpose
has not been manifested in

your life is because God
has not brought out in you the
00:09:50.26\00:09:54.40
things he has placed in
you because too many of us are
00:09:54.40\00:09:57.36
tied up to dead,
comfortable things.
00:09:57.36\00:10:01.16
You've got to make up in your
mind that you're not going to
00:10:01.16\00:10:04.46
allow yourself to be tied to
dead things, because you will
00:10:04.46\00:10:08.63
never reach your full
potential in life if you've
00:10:08.63\00:10:11.00
become comfortable tied to
dead things that Jesus says,
00:10:11.00\00:10:13.86
go in and let the colt
know that I want him loose.
00:10:13.86\00:10:20.16
Now remember this, while the
rope may be around our necks,
00:10:20.16\00:10:25.03
if we want to be
loosed, we can be loosed.
00:10:25.03\00:10:29.33
Now, the Bible says that
when the colt is tied no man has
00:10:29.33\00:10:35.80
ever ridden him, which means
that Jesus says, I want you to
00:10:35.80\00:10:40.33
bring the colt to me because
I want to break the colt in.
00:10:40.33\00:10:46.70
If you loose him,
I'll break him in.
00:10:46.70\00:10:50.60
And oftentimes this is
what God is trying to tell us.
00:10:50.60\00:10:54.10
God says, if you
would just loose that thing,
00:10:54.10\00:10:57.93
I will show you the
potential that's in it.

I will bring to fruition all
of the things that the gift I
00:11:01.36\00:11:05.93
put inside of you has
to offer, but you have

to have the courage.

You have to have the foresight.

You have to have the unction
to loose it and once you loose

it, I will break it in
and show you all the potential

that's been tied up.

But too many of us are still
frustrated because our gifts

are still bound and
they're not being used.

The Lord teaches us that
with a strange request you also

have to have a
spiritual response.

Strange request, you have
to have a spiritual response,

because you have to understand
that whenever you go loosing

something that's been bound,
there's going to be a whole

bunch of folk
that have questions.

Why you doing this?

What's wrong with you?

And so Jesus says,
look, I don't need you.

I don't want you to
respond out of your flesh.

Because if you respond out
of your flesh, you're going to

hurt somebody.

I know some of you, you're
too deep to understand that, but

isn't it amazing how when
you're doing what God has told

you to do, that is when
folk will start questioning you.

Why are you doing
what you're doing?

By what authority do you have
to do what you've just done?

And you know, if you're
not careful your old self will

rise up and you're
bound to give them another

kind of response.

So Jesus said, so you
don't get mixed up on the right

they ask you, tell them that the

Yes, they're
going to question you.

But you've got to
tell them that the master

That's your spiritual response.

I know there's some people
up in here, you have some gifts,

destiny that is tied up,

Somebody in here, you
have the gift of teaching,

but it's been tied up.

The master says, loose
it, I've got need of it.

That business you've been
wanting to start, loose it,

I have need of it.

That bk you were supposed to

All the dreams and desires
that are in you, Jesus says,

And if anybody has a problem

You see, the problem is
we don't want to loose it.

it, God will do the rest.

The colt is loosed
and brought to Jesus.

The people begin responding
to him in ways that pointed

their commitment to him.

It's only one thing to
talk about how much you love the

Lord, but it's a whole
other thing to show how much

you love the Lord.

Now, look at verse 35.

Quickly, verse 35 and 36.

The word of God says
this: "And they brought him to

Jesus: and they cast their
garments upon the colt, and

they set Jesus thereon."

Verse 36: "And as he
went, they spread their clothes

Now, let's figure
out what's going on?

Here Jesus is, rides
on a colt into the city.

That thing that has
been tied up has now been

given to Jesus.

Notice this in the text, when
the disciples loosed the colt,

they do not ride
the colt back to Jesus.

Their job was not to
ride the colt, but their job
00:15:28.80\00:15:32.56
was to bring the colt back.
00:15:32.56\00:15:34.90
Because remember, the
colt has not been ridden yet.

The colt has not
been broken in yet.

And the problem is this, if
they were trying to ride the

colt back, they would have
been out of order because the

Our problem is too many of us,
we're trying to help the Lord,

Now, I knot this doesn't
make sense to somebody, but in a

because the reality is they

sacrificed their garments.

You see, these
clothes were valuable to them.

In a sense the clothes
were all that the people had and

now they were willing to

had, they said, I'm willing

conclusion the circumstances
