00:11 ♪ oh yes, he's worthy ♪ ♪ worthy of all... ♪ 00:20 (Music) PB: I want to welcome you to the services at the 00:24 Berean Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. 00:25 I'm Dr. Carlton Byrd. 00:27 Here at Breath of Life we're happy that you tuned in 00:30 today with us. 00:31 I'd like to invite everyone, those in the church audience 00:33 as well as the viewing audience, to take your Bibles 00:36 and turn with me to the Book of Acts. Acts, Chapter 3. 00:39 We shall begin at verse 1. 00:41 The word of God says, "Now Peter and John went up 00:44 together into the temple at the hour of prayer, 00:49 being the ninth hour. 00:52 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, 00:54 whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is 00:57 called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the 01:02 temple; Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the 01:06 temple asked an alms." Verse 4 says, "And Peter, fastening 01:11 his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. 01:14 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive 01:17 something of them. 01:18 Then Peter said, Silver and gold 01:23 have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the 01:30 name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth 01:34 rise up and walk. 01:37 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and 01:40 immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 01:43 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them 01:45 into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. 01:47 And all the people saw him walking and praising God: 01:51 And they knew that it was he which sat 01:54 for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they 01:58 were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had 02:02 happened unto him." Do me a favor, turn to your neighbor 02:06 and say, "Neighbor," come on say it like you mean it, say 02:08 "Neighbor," say, "Get up." 02:10 (Music) Father in heaven, breathe in Berean right now, 02:26 heal the brokenhearted, God set a captive free 02:33 today, make the lame to walk again and, God, 02:36 cause the blind to see. 02:37 God bless your words. 02:40 Forgive me of my sins. 02:42 And when we make the appeal today, I pray that individuals 02:45 give their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ. 02:49 It's in his name we pray. Amen. 02:54 Get up. Everybody say, "Get up." All of us 02:58 in this place today must understand that we were 03:02 created for a purpose. 03:05 God has designed us for something great. 03:09 My life should then be in constant pursuit 03:13 of that purpose. 03:15 Your peace, your prosperity are tied to that purpose. 03:21 You will never be fulfilled unless you connect with what 03:26 God intended for your life. 03:28 Many of the frustrations that people experience in life have 03:31 a lot to do with the fact that they're not walking in the 03:34 destiny that God prepared for them and the purpose 03:38 that God has for our lives, consequently I've discovered 03:41 in life that many people are guilty of blaming other 03:44 people for their condition. 03:47 Some people blame their current situation all the time 03:51 on the way they were raised. 03:54 We blame our upbringing or we blame a system. 03:59 But there comes a time in your life where you must take 04:01 responsibility and declare that God has something 04:04 better for my life. 04:06 So, regardless of the misfortunes of my past, 04:09 regardless of the mistakes of your past, regardless of the 04:13 mismanagement of your past, regardless of what has 04:17 happened to me, God is able to get me up out 04:21 of this negative situation. 04:24 And so the word today is, man, woman, get up. 04:28 Stop whining about it. 04:31 Stop being pitiful about it. 04:34 Stop blaming the system for where you are. 04:38 It's time for you to realize that God has empowered you 04:43 and deposited greatness inside of you. 04:46 Greater is he that is in me than he that's in the world. 04:50 And so today I want to talk about this because I'm talking 04:53 to men, I'm talking to women who find themselves in 04:55 situations, who make excuses as to why things aren't 04:58 happening in your life. 04:59 Well let me tell you today to get up. 05:03 Here's an interesting story, interesting narrative. 05:06 It is the story of Peter, the story of John, fresh from a 05:09 Pentecostal experience in Acts, Chapter 2. 05:13 It's interesting because in Acts, Chapter 1 we received 05:16 the promise of the Holy Spirit. 05:19 The Bible says, "Go and tarry and the Holy Ghost will come 05:23 upon you." Then in Acts, Chapter 2, we receive the 05:26 presence of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. 05:30 The Bible says, "They were in one place, in one spirit, on 05:35 one accord and the Holy Spirit did come." Now we're in Acts, 05:42 Chapter 3, where we now receive after receiving the 05:46 promise and the presence, we are now ready to receive the 05:49 power of the Holy Ghost, and it's right here in this 05:52 episode with Peter and John on their way to the temple. 05:56 The Bible says that as they were on their way to the house 05:59 of prayer they met a man. 06:03 There was a man who was outside the gate. 06:06 Everybody say gate. 06:08 There was a brother out there by the gate and his 06:10 situation was very pitiful. 06:13 The brother had been carried there daily because he was 06:16 lame and so he asked alms of everybody. 06:20 Every time somebody would walk by, he would cry, 06:23 "Alms. Alms, alms for the poor." 06:27 And when Peter and John encountered this man they 06:30 leave this man in a better situation than how they 06:34 met him. 06:35 And I want you to understand today that regardless of your 06:37 situation, the fact that you got here today is evidence 06:43 that you're not going to leave here the same way you came. 06:46 God's going to do something miraculous 06:49 in somebody's life today. 06:51 Do I have a witness in this place? 06:53 And so the message is, get up. 06:55 But what's this man's problem? 06:59 What's really going on with the brother at the gate crying 07:01 "Alms for the poor"? 07:03 Let me tell you what I think his first problem was. 07:05 The first problem was he was in the wrong place. 07:09 Note where the word of God say, the Bible says, the man 07:12 was at church but not in church. 07:17 He was at the gate but the people went past the gate 07:23 into the temple. 07:25 And if you're going to be where God wants you to be, 07:27 you must understand that you must get in 07:31 the right place spiritually. 07:32 Because if you're not in the right place spiritually, 07:35 you're not in place at all. 07:38 God is looking for some folk, he's looking for people who 07:42 want to move from being at to being in. 07:46 Are you hearing what I'm saying? 07:47 Let me say this to the brothers. 07:50 Men in the house. 07:51 We need some men who will step up to the plate and be the 07:56 leaders that God has called us to be. 07:59 The reason why many sisters, I'm learning and finding, 08:03 don't respect many brothers is because we're out of place. 08:06 You can't expect to be respected as the man of the 08:08 house if you're spiritually out of place. 08:11 Not only was the man in the wrong place spiritually, but 08:14 the man was lame. 08:15 Everybody say lame. 08:17 Now it's interesting because the Bible says he was lame 08:19 from his mother's womb. 08:21 He was lame. 08:21 He can never walk on his own. 08:22 The man lacks, if you will, the ability to move forward. 08:27 He wasn't going anywhere. 08:28 He depended on other people to get him from point A 08:31 to point B. 08:33 He was lame. 08:33 He lacked the ability to be mobile. 08:35 He was in a situation based on his condition. 08:38 He had never walked before. 08:41 Now there's a spiritual revelation I want to quickly 08:43 draw out of this. 08:45 Because as long as you're satisfied at the gate, 08:49 you're going to be lame. 08:53 You all don't hear what I'm saying? 08:55 In other words, you're not going anywhere at the gate. 09:00 Somebody right now, you're listening to this message from 09:03 God, and you're wondering why you're in a certain situation 09:08 and everything you hook up with is lame. 09:12 It's not going anywhere. 09:14 It's because you're still at the gate. 09:16 Now I know some people know what I'm talking about because 09:18 you can be lame relationally. 09:22 Ladies, when you have a man that's lame relationally, 09:24 I don't care how you hook up with him, 09:26 it's not going anywhere. 09:28 And brothers, if you have a sister that's lame 09:30 relationally, I don't care what you try to enhance her 09:33 life with, your relationship is not going anywhere 09:36 as long as they are lame. 09:37 You'll be in the same situation this year, 09:39 next year. 09:40 Stop hooking up with lame situations in relationships. 09:45 When you're lame financially, some people just stay 09:50 at the gate. 09:51 They come, stay at the gate rather than doing it God's way. 09:56 God says, return a tithe and offering. 10:00 God says, if you do it my way I will open up the windows of 10:03 heaven, pour you out a blessing that there shall not 10:06 be room enough to receive it. 10:07 But too many of us are trying to do it our way. 10:10 In the church, in the membership by running numbers, 10:14 running games, running through a casino. 10:18 Not us, Pastor Byrd. 10:19 Oh, yes, you've been on cruises. 10:21 Come on, say Amen. 10:23 Rather than trust God, and you wonder why you're going from 10:30 check to check, it's because you're lame financially. 10:36 And if you're lame financially, I believe that 10:38 you must be lame spiritually. 10:39 You're in a situation where you're at the gate. 10:46 Why come to church sometimes. 10:50 I come when I feel like it. 10:54 I don't know if I'm going today because, you know, I'm a 10:56 CME member. 10:59 You do know what that is. 11:02 Christmas, Mother's Day and Easter member. Amen. 11:11 But then I'm learning now that some people are not CME 11:14 but CMEFW. 11:17 Christmas, Mother's Day, Easter, funerals and weddings. 11:23 Do I have a witness in this place? 11:26 But you've got to get to the point and make up in your mind 11:29 that as long as I've got breath in my body, as long as 11:32 I've got blood flowing in my veins, I can go into the house 11:38 of God and I'm going to be there. 11:40 I can't make it without getting a word from the Lord. 11:43 I'm addicted to his word. 11:45 I've got to have the word of God in my life. 11:48 But when you're lame, you're just at the gate. 11:52 And if you stay at the gate you'll be dependent upon other 11:55 people to take care of you. 11:57 Every day the man would wake up in the morning and say, 11:59 is somebody going to take me down to the gate? 12:02 Who's going to take me to the gate today? 12:03 Does anybody have a ride for me to get to the gate? 12:06 Can anybody help me? 12:07 Understand, the brother forfeited the ultimate destiny 12:10 that was on his life and now he had denigrated himself to a 12:14 can-you-hook-a-brother-up lifestyle. 12:19 You know we got folk like that. 12:21 They forfeited the greatness of God as deposited in them 12:24 and so now they've relegated themselves to can you hook 12:26 a sister up lifestyle? 12:28 You and I were not designed to be in a low place. 12:33 You and I were not designed to live your life from one hustle 12:37 to the next hustle. 12:38 You and I were not designed to walk around and be pitiful. 12:42 You and I were not designed to be people who were going 12:45 nowhere, no time, fast. 12:47 You and I were born to win. 12:49 God has bestowed greatness in us. 12:52 The answer is not in the gate, the answer is in the temple, 12:57 in the glory of God. 12:58 Man, woman of God, get up. 13:03 Come off the corner. 13:05 Come off the corner. 13:07 Stop being the passenger and get your own ride. 13:12 Stop putting your hand out and go up and fill out 13:13 your own application. 13:15 Stop wallowing over what you don't have and thank God for 13:17 what you do have. 13:18 Come away from the complaint counter and come to 13:21 the claim window. 13:23 God wants you to have an abundant life. 13:27 What kind of life, everybody?. 13:27 We need some folk that say, I'm tired of being in the 13:31 wrong place. 13:32 I want to get in the right place. 13:33 Blessed in the man that walketh not in the counsel of 13:35 the ungodly nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor 13:38 cheateth and deceiveth the scornful. 13:40 But his delight is in the law of the Lord and his law that 13:42 he dedicate day and night. 13:44 David said, I was glad when they said unto me, let us go 13:50 into the house of the Lord. 13:52 Leave the gate, come on in and get up. 13:56 This man needed something. 13:58 This man needed a word of power. 14:03 Look at verse 4. 14:05 Peter fastening his eyes upon him, what John said, 14:10 look on us. 14:12 Verse 5, and gave heed unto them expecting to 14:14 receive something of them. 14:14 In other words, the man looked at them expecting to receive 14:19 something he asked for. 14:22 Verse 6, then Peter said, silver and gold have I none, 14:26 but such as I have I give thee. 14:32 In the name of Jesus rise up and walk. 14:38 And he took him by the hand, verse 7 says, and lifted him 14:41 up and immediately his feet and ankle bones 14:47 received strength. 14:50 One of the most powerful revelations of this text 14:52 is right here. 14:54 I have people all the time, how can I help my husband? 14:56 How can I help my wife? 14:58 How can I help my son? 14:59 How can I help my daughter? 15:01 How can I help my cousin? 15:03 And what this text teaches us is that your focus should not 15:05 be on what they want, but your focus ought to 15:07 be on what they need. 15:10 Peter and John don't give him alms as he wants, but they 15:17 answer this man with a word of power. 15:21 They are two preachers from a Pentecostal experience 15:25 and so the change that they experience in Chapter 2 15:29 is getting ready to go over into Chapter 3 15:31 to affect this man's life. 15:34 Peter and John say to the brother, I don't care what 15:38 images you may have seen. 15:41 We are fresh from a Pentecostal experience and we 15:44 are so confident in what has happened in our life, 15:49 look on us. 15:50 And I just believe that God is raising up some positive men. 15:56 You'll see some men in this church today. 15:59 God is raising them up. 16:01 Let me at this time celebrate some good men 16:05 in this church today. 16:06 There are some brothers up in here who do have credit. 16:10 There are some brothers up in here who do get up and go 16:14 to work every day. 16:16 There are some brothers up in here who know how 16:19 to treat a woman. 16:20 There are some brothers who know how to take care 16:23 of their children. 16:24 We are to celebrate every time we see a man handling 16:27 his business. 16:28 We ought to high-five them and say, handle yours. 16:33 Look on us. 16:36 The anointing that flows down here. 16:39 And understand, when Peter and John change the images where 16:47 the man was looking they were able to change his life. 16:52 They said, silver and gold have we none. 16:57 In other words, man, you don't need dollars. 16:59 You need a deliverer. 17:03 You don't need coins. 17:05 You need the Christ. 17:08 You don't need silver, but you need a savior. 17:12 And I want to challenge you today to get a powerful word 17:17 from God to help you get out of your difficult situation. 17:22 That's why I preach like I preach without compromise, 17:26 because we need a real word. 17:29 We don't need any sugar-coated word. 17:32 We need somebody to tell it like it is. 17:36 We don't need anybody to skirt around the issue. 17:39 If you're trifling you're trifling. 17:43 If you're lazy, you're lazy. 17:45 If you need to get a job, get a job. 17:48 Stop making excuses. 17:50 Tell it like it is. 17:52 We don't need one eight hundred to get a yes. 17:54 We don't need one eight hundred to get a job. 17:57 You need a word from the Lord. 17:59 Silver and gold have we none, but such as we have--you need 18:09 to understand that--such as we have can change your life. 18:15 You can have all the money in the world, you can have all 18:17 the clothes and the cars, but if you don't have Jesus, you 18:19 don't have anything. 18:20 Somebody knows what I'm talking about. 18:24 Let me tell you something. 18:25 You can't be a godly husband without Jesus. 18:27 You can't be a godly wife without Jesus. 18:31 You won't have peace without Jesus. 18:35 Somebody knows he'll change the way you walk. 18:38 He'll change the way you talk. 18:39 He'll change your attitude. 18:41 He'll change the situation around. 18:43 In him I live, I move, I have my being. 18:46 It's impossible to have such as we have and to stay down. 18:53 It's impossible to have Jesus in your life and stay down. 18:57 When you are doing what God has called you to do, when you 19:01 have Jesus in your life, you will keep popping to the top. 19:07 In fact, you are designed to always float on the top. 19:12 Don't you know you're a head, not the tail. 19:14 You're above, not beneath. 19:16 God has called you to be a lender not the borrower. 19:19 I am what God says I am. 19:21 I can be what God says I can be. 19:24 I can do what God says I can do. 19:27 Nothing in this world, no system, no job, no supervisor, 19:31 none of you all can keep anybody down when God 19:34 is in them. 19:37 I was designed for the top. 19:41 So finally, One more thing. 19:44 I want you to see this. 19:46 It's the power of praise. 19:49 Look at verse 7. 19:51 "And he took him by the right hand, lifted him up and 19:57 immediately," how fast, everybody? Immediately. 20:02 "His feet and his ankle bones receive strength." Verse 8, 20:08 "And he leaping up stood and walked and entered with them 20:14 into the temple, walking and leaping and praising God." 20:21 Lesson for us now. 20:22 Final one. 20:23 You see, when get delivered, when the man got delivered, 20:27 he didn't take his time getting up. 20:31 A lot of us, our problem is when God delivers us, we take 20:36 too long to come out. 20:39 But when God delivers you, when God provides 20:43 a way of escape, you better get the 20:46 quickest way out. 20:47 When he got delivered, he entered in with them, 20:52 Peter and John. 20:55 Where did he go? 20:58 The temple. 21:00 But when we first met him where was he at? 21:04 The gate. 21:06 We met him at the gate, but now he's in the temple. 21:13 Somebody's going to get this in a minute. 21:15 And when he got in the temple, what did he do? 21:22 He wasn't sitting back, arms folded, reared back. 21:29 But the Bible says that he was walking, leaping 21:35 and praising God. 21:38 Verse 10. 21:39 I'm getting ready to go. 21:40 I'm getting ready. 21:41 I'm getting ready. 21:42 And they knew, the Bible says, look at verse 10, and they 21:46 knew that it was he, stop there. 21:54 Talking about in the temple now. 21:57 They said, isn't that the man, didn't he used to be the 22:03 biggest player in ATL isn't that the one that was on the 22:09 corner selling that stuff? 22:11 Isn't that the one that hurt my cousin? 22:14 Isn't that the one that used to be drunk at the party? 22:16 Isn't that the one that was in the low place? 22:20 Yes, that was him, emphasis on the was. 22:25 But he said, I may not be all that I should be, but praise 22:30 God, I'm not what I used to be. 22:35 What I once was is not who I now am. 22:40 Because he became a living witness that when he got 22:44 changed he came back to the house of God. 22:51 Am I talking to anybody today that's been at the gate but 22:57 God is getting ready to change your life and when God changes 23:03 your life, God is bringing you back into the house of God for 23:09 you to be a witness for him so he can use you 23:12 in a greater way. 23:14 What was controlling him all of his life? 23:17 Lameness was controlling him. 23:20 But now what controlled him, he now controlled it. 23:25 That's change. 23:28 That's real change. 23:32 And let me tell you something, God is getting ready to raise 23:35 people up in these last days. 23:39 We're living in perilous times. 23:43 Perilous times. 23:46 Has it hit somebody yet? 23:49 Has it hit somebody that we're living in perilous times? 23:52 Coincidence or not, has it hit somebody that on 9/11 23:56 terrorists went into the World Trade Center? 23:59 Has it hit somebody, that happened on September 11. 24:02 Has it hit somebody, on January 11, 2010, 24:05 earthquake in Haiti. 24:07 Has it hit somebody, March 11, 2011, earthquake 24:12 over there in Japan. 24:14 Has it hit somebody, has it hit somebody 24:17 that we grew up as Seventh-Day Adventist 24:19 Christians believing that three events would take place 24:23 at the end of the sixth seal, going into the seventh seal, 24:26 and the seventh seal was when Jesus the Christ would come. 24:29 The dark days. 24:31 Are you hearing what I'm saying?
