00:23 those who are watching the Breath of Life
00:25 television ministry.
00:26 I'm Dr. Carlton T. Byrd, and I'd like to welcome
00:28 you to the Berean Seventh-Day Adventist Church here in
00:29 Atlanta, Georgia.
00:30 Take your Bibles with me and let's go to the book of
00:34 Exodus.
00:34 What book, everybody?
00:36 We want to go to the book of Exodus, chapter 12, verses 21
00:44 through 28.
00:50 Exodus 12:21-28.
01:02 If you have it, let me hear you say Amen.
01:04 Amen.
01:04 All right.
01:05 We're reading from the Word of God.
01:07 God's Word says, "Then Moses called for all the elders of
01:11 Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb
01:16 according to your families, and kill the passover.
01:22 And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the
01:25 blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the
01:27 two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none
01:31 of you shall go out at the door of his house until the
01:33 morning." Verse 23, very important text: "For the Lord
01:37 will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth
01:43 the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the
01:48 Lord will pass over the door, and will not suffer the
01:53 destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
01:57 And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee
02:00 and to thy sons for ever."
02:02 Verse 25, "And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to
02:06 the land which the Lord will give you, according as he hath
02:10 promised, that ye shall keep this service.
02:13 And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say
02:16 unto you, What mean ye by this service?
02:19 That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the Lord's
02:23 passover, who passed over the houses of the children of
02:26 Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered
02:29 our houses.
02:30 And the people bowed their head and worshipped.
02:32 And the children of Israel went away, and did as the Lord
02:35 had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they." The subject this
02:42 morning is entitled "Power in the Blood." Lord, speak to us.
02:48 Disappoint us not, fill us with your spirit, anoint us
02:54 with your grace.
02:56 God, we be careful to give you the praise in this place
02:59 today.
03:00 Hide me behind your cross.
03:01 In Jesus' name we pray.
03:03 Let everyone say Amen.
03:04 And Amen.
03:07 It was the Passover service that Christ was keeping
03:12 thousands of years later, commemorating what God had
03:19 already done for Israel in Egypt.
03:22 When at the communion service with his disciples, remember,
03:27 it was Jesus who said, "Take, eat,
03:31 this is my body that was broken for you." Here Jesus
03:35 identified himself as being the Lamb of which this Old
03:39 Testament story about Passover is all about.
03:43 He lets us know that this Old Testament story was just a
03:48 shadow.
03:50 Everybody say shadow.
03:51 You see, the lamb in the Old Testament was just a type.
03:56 Just a model of the real thing that was to come.
04:01 Ellen White in "The Desire of Ages" says that the sacrifice
04:05 of the lamb at Passover was a memorial of the Lord's
04:09 wonderful deliverance of the children of Israel, but it
04:12 pointed to a greater deliverance to be wrought
04:16 out only by the only begotten Son of God.
04:20 As the blood was sprinkled on the doorposts, as it had saved
04:25 the firstborn of Israel, so the blood of Christ has the
04:31 power to save the world.
04:34 Today I want you to get into your head and in your spirit,
04:39 as we partake of the Lord's supper today, I want you to do
04:45 with understanding that the blood is a part of your
04:49 covenant rites and covenant heritage and, friends of mine,
04:53 that is a defense.
04:56 This is just not today a nice communion service, but this is
05:03 a service of defense.
05:06 It is a defense mechanism where if you understand it, it
05:13 will cause you to get victory against the enemy that
05:16 oppresses you.
05:19 If you understand it, it will make a great deal of
05:23 difference for you.
05:24 Because understand, the enemy has come against your freedom.
05:28 The enemy has come against that freedom, whether that is
05:33 spiritual freedom, physical freedom, social freedom or
05:39 economic freedom.
05:42 Anything that threatens to enslave you, anything that
05:47 threatens to have you bound, anything that threatens to
05:51 chain you up, I've come today to tell you that the breaking
05:57 of bread and the lifting of the cup is your emancipation
06:03 proclamation against anything that threatens to drag you
06:06 into enslavement, threatens to trap you and has you living
06:10 out your life as a slave rather than a child of God.
06:14 The Bible says, and I read it again, verse 23 of Exodus 12:
06:19 "For the Lord will pass through to smite the
06:21 Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and
06:25 on the two side posts, the Lord will pass over the door,
06:29 and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your
06:31 houses to smite you." Now, let me be clear.
06:36 That's how strong the blood of the Lamb was then.
06:41 But can you imagine how much stronger the blood of Jesus
06:47 Christ is?
06:49 Now, the children of Israel were gathering all of their
06:53 children into the house, all of their animals into the
06:57 house, all of their property into the house, because the
07:00 protection was to stand up under the blood.
07:05 That's how they were to fight.
07:07 That's what their defense was, to stand up underneath the
07:13 blood.
07:14 And when we read in Exodus how God began to fight, you must
07:19 understand, friends of mine, that God began to fight
07:23 against Pharaoh in Egypt.
07:26 The battle is God's battle.
07:28 The battle was not necessarily the Israelites' battle.
07:32 The battle ensued because God had gotten tired of Pharaoh
07:36 attacking his children.
07:39 God had gotten tired of Pharaoh resisting them, giving
07:43 them restricted opposition, making it more difficult for
07:46 them to do what they had to do.
07:47 Every day, Pharaoh was coming up with another way to make
07:52 the lives of the children of Israel more miserable.
07:56 And so it became so difficult, the Bible teaches, that the
07:58 children of God began to cry out to the Lord, "Lord,
08:03 deliver us from this oppressive, restrictive force
08:08 coming against everything that we do." And I believe I've got
08:12 some witnesses in this place, who have cried out to the Lord
08:16 and said, "Lord, deliver me from this mess that I'm going
08:22 through right now.
08:23 If we're real today, every now and then you have to go to
08:28 your secret closet, and you have to go to God and cry out
08:32 to God and say, "God, life is getting on my nerves.
08:36 Trouble is pressing me down.
08:39 Enemies are coming from everywhere, and if I don't get
08:42 some help up in here, I don't think I'm going to be able to
08:46 stand." It's when the children of Israel began to cry to the
08:50 Lord that God told Moses, "Moses, I've heard the cry of
08:53 my children unto me.
08:55 Go down, tell mean old Pharaoh, let my people go.
09:02 Pharaoh, you can do whatever you want to do with your
09:06 people, but don't bother my people.
09:08 Let my people go." And I want you to understand what I'm
09:12 saying quickly.
09:13 I want you to understand the valuable position that you
09:16 hold in the Lord, that you are in a unique position that,
09:21 friends of mine, you don't have to fight by yourselves.
09:23 You don't have to fight by yourselves.
09:27 You need to understand today that my God, he can fight.
09:31 God can fight.
09:33 We always see God as this kind, peaceful, compassionate,
09:37 emanating light, that exudes from the throne, all this
09:40 passivity, all this being kind and nice and gentle.
09:44 But I have to remind you today, friends of mine, that
09:47 while that is true, it is also true that your God, my God, is
09:53 also a man of war.
09:55 Israel said he was awesome in battle.
09:58 Who is the King of Glory?
10:01 The Lord strong and mighty?
10:03 Who is the King of Glory?
10:05 The Lord mighty in battle.
10:08 When God fought, God swallowed up nations in the earth by his
10:13 right hand.
10:15 He told Moses, go down, tell and warn mean old Pharaoh that
10:20 he's about to get into a fight with me.
10:24 He's been jumping on my kids, but he's going to have to
10:28 fight Daddy now.
10:30 And in case you didn't know, if you want to make somebody
10:32 mad, mess with their children.
10:36 It's a lot different when you're fighting with
10:39 somebody's child or you're fighting with them.
10:41 Are you hearing what I'm saying?
10:43 It's a big difference between fighting the slave and
10:46 fighting the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
10:49 And all you've got to do is stand still and see the
10:51 salvation of the Lord.
10:53 The Bible says that God began to launch an attack on
10:57 Pharaoh.
10:58 And when God begins to launch an attack, God has an unusual
11:02 way of fighting.
11:04 Most times when we reflect on scripture, when God began to
11:08 wage war against another nation, God would use a nation
11:12 against a nation.
11:14 But for this particular battle, God did not reach out
11:18 and get another nation to come against Egypt.
11:21 You must understand that Egypt at the time was the superpower
11:25 of that era.
11:26 Egypt built pyramids, and they built buildings that are still
11:30 existing today.
11:31 We are still studying the technology and the ability
11:34 that was executed under the Pharaohs.
11:37 People are touring, excavating and understanding the
11:42 precision and the mechanism whereby they were able to do
11:44 what they were able to do, and for that kind of enemy, God
11:47 did not risk sending another nation in to fight.
11:52 God decided that he was going to use something else.
11:56 The amazing thing about my God is that when God gets ready to
12:00 fight, God will use things you and I never thought about.
12:07 Who would have ever thought about releasing boils against
12:10 your enemies?
12:11 Only God could clap his hands and cause boils to break out
12:15 on the backs of his enemies?
12:18 Are you hearing what I'm saying?
12:19 When God got upset, God walked out onto the ponds of Egypt
12:24 and spoke to the frogs in Egypt, and said, "Hop over
12:28 into Egypt.
12:30 I'm going to forge an attack on them like they've never
12:33 seen before." He looked, God did, at flies and called for
12:37 flies to descend upon Egypt.
12:39 When God gets ready to fight, God will use stuff you never
12:44 thought of to bring you to victory.
12:47 And so today I've come to warn the enemies of God.
12:52 If there are any lurking in this place today, if I were
12:55 you, I'd get up out of here as quickly as possible.
12:58 Because when God gets ready to fight, when God gets ready to
13:03 wage war, God has a way of settling the score when you
13:07 start messing with his children.
13:10 And so I'm tired of hearing what the enemy's got.
13:14 I'm tired of hearing the saints talk about bills,
13:16 recession and inflation.
13:19 I'm tired of hearing the saints talk about sickness and
13:22 aggravation.
13:23 I'm tired of hearing saints, even self included, talk about
13:25 disease and death.
13:26 You need to take a look.
13:27 I need to take a look.
13:29 We need to take a look at what God has given us
13:31 to fight with.
13:33 There's more on our side than there is on the enemy's side.
13:39 Oh, I don't think you heard me.
13:42 There's more on our side than there is on the enemy's side.
13:49 Understand, don't wait until the battle is over.
13:54 You can shout now, because we know in the end
13:57 we're gonna win.
13:57 We will win.
14:00 The battle in your house, we will win.
14:04 The battle on your job, we will win.
14:07 The battle in your mind, we will win.
14:10 The battle to feed your kids, we will win.
14:13 The battle to trust the Lord, we will win, because some
14:17 trust in horses, some trust in chariots, but I will trust in
14:23 the name of the Lord.
14:26 Hallelujah, somebody.
14:28 The children of Israel said, Lord, what are you
14:30 going to do?
14:31 God said, well, listen, the enemies you see now, you will
14:34 see them no more.
14:38 The children of Israel said, Lord, what are you
14:39 talking about?
14:40 We're fighting against an enemy that has all types of
14:43 weapons.
14:44 Six hundred chosen chariots.
14:46 Technology.
14:47 Wa2are.
14:48 Swords, shields.
14:49 Finances, resources.
14:51 And what have you given us to fight with?
14:54 God says, I don't want you to pull a sword or knife.
14:59 I don't even need you to use a shield or a bomb.
15:04 I don't even need you to go on a suicide mission to make a
15:08 statement against your enemies.
15:11 All I want you to do is get a lamb for every house.
15:16 Wait a minute, Lord.
15:18 You mean they're going to come against us with swords and
15:21 shields, horses, chariots, money, and technology, and
15:27 you're tell us that all you want us to get is a lamb?
15:32 God, why a lamb?
15:35 It would seem you'd give us a lion.
15:38 At least a lion has teeth.
15:40 It seems as though you'd give us a cheetah.
15:42 At least a cheetah can run.
15:43 Maybe you can give us a gorilla, because
15:45 a gorilla is strong.
15:46 But why would you give us a lamb?
15:49 God said, because the battle is not yours.
15:52 The battle is the Lord's.
15:55 I hear God saying, my strength is made perfect
15:59 in your weakness.
16:01 Well, Lord, what do you want me to do with this lamb.
16:05 I wonder today, does anybody have a lamb out there?
16:08 You'll never make it through the future unless
16:10 you have a lamb.
16:12 I don't mean a lamb for the community, I don't mean a lamb
16:14 per church, but every house, every house in this place
16:18 today, you have got to have your own lamb.
16:21 Is there a lamb in your house?
16:23 Because the plagues are coming.
16:25 The world is wrapping up.
16:26 Trouble is coming.
16:28 Storms are coming.
16:30 Blue laws are coming.
16:32 Tests are coming.
16:34 Trials are coming.
16:35 Is there a lamb in your house?
16:39 God said, I want you to slay the lamb and take the blood of
16:42 the lamb, put it on the doorpost and put it on the
16:44 lental.
16:45 I want you to put it high above your head.
16:47 I want you to put on it, on every sign over your way, for
16:49 the Lord knows the way you can take.
16:51 And when he has tried me, I shall come forth as pure gold.
16:57 Let me close it this way.
17:00 Today I've come to serve notice to the devil, devil,
17:07 you can't touch this.
17:10 God is about to give us victory.
17:14 The Bible says that after the frogs, after the flies, after
17:22 the boils, after the water turning to blood, ten plagues
17:27 released all over the earth, finally on that night, God
17:31 said, the death angel is going to pass by, and the only safe
17:36 place is to be under the blood.
17:40 And today, church of the living God, our only safe
17:45 place is to be under the blood.
17:51 I know we're in a postmodern, contemporary age, but back in
17:53 the day, we started it a couple of years ago here at
17:56 Berean, back in the day, we in the old church of the óóó used
18:01 to have all-night prayer meetings.
18:04 And we used to not have it just once a year, but I
18:05 believe back in the day we used to have it once a
18:06 quarter.
18:07 Do I have a witness in this place?
18:09 And if you were to go to all-night prayer meeting, I
18:11 remember my daddy up there preaching, up there preaching
18:14 in the all-night prayer meeting, my brother and I and
18:16 my sister, we'd be in the back, ready to go home,
18:18 because we were there all night.
18:20 But we'd be lying on the pews back then, but then we'd start
18:24 hearing people pray during the season of prayer.
18:27 And it was during those seasons of prayer where people
18:29 wouldn't pray these one-, two-, three-minute prayers,
18:32 but they would agonize with the Lord for five and ten
18:35 minutes, calling on the name of the Lord.
18:38 And I would listen to them pray, and they would start
18:40 pleading the blood of Jesus.
18:44 Every time the devil started trying to do something, they'd
18:46 plead the blood of Jesus.
18:49 Every time the enemy would come against their finances,
18:51 they would plead the blood of Jesus.
18:55 When the enemy would come and attack their bodies, they
18:58 would plead the blood of Jesus.
19:01 Why?
19:01 There's power, power, wonder-working power in the
19:07 blood of the Lamb.
19:09 When the death angel passed by, the death angel was given
19:14 an assignment.
19:16 An assignment by God to kill everything in Egypt.
19:19 And the only reason he didn't stop by the children of
19:21 Israel's house is that the blood was a sign that death
19:25 had already been by that house.
19:29 Two thousand years ago, on a bloody cross, on Golgotha's
19:41 hill, God made a sign over my house.
19:48 God made a sign over your house, that I don't care what
19:54 the devil does.
19:55 God has already been to my house.
19:59 He died for my sins.
20:02 He died for my deliverance.
20:04 He died for my salvation.
20:07 And the reason why the death angel didn't stop by those
20:10 houses is, I said it before, I'll say it again today, it's
20:13 because it's illegal to try a man twice for the same crime.
20:19 I'm just as guilty as the Egyptians were, but because of
20:26 my Lamb, my case has already been tried.
20:32 That's why it doesn't matter, it really doesn't matter, what
20:34 did I say last week?
20:35 It don't matter.
20:36 It doesn't matter what you already know about me.
20:40 You can't try me again because he whom the Son sets free
20:46 shall be free indeed.
20:49 Free, free, free!
20:52 Let me stop right here, because we've got some
20:55 worshippers up in here today, and if I don't stop, I don't
20:58 know where this thing just might go.
20:59 But I want to tell (laughs), I want to tell somebody today,
21:05 you are not without defense.
21:09 Thank God for the blood.
21:11 One day when I was lost he died upon the cross, and I
21:18 know that I know it was the blood for me.
21:21 When the enemy comes in like a flood, plead the
21:24 blood of Jesus.
21:25 When the enemy attacks your body, remind the devil of the
21:29 blood of Jesus.
21:31 One day when I was lost, yes, he died upon the cross.
21:34 He was wounded for my transgressions.
21:37 Bruised for my iniquities.
21:40 The chastisement of my peace was upon him, and by his
21:44 stripes I am healed.
21:46 Bled for my evil walk.
21:48 Bled for my evil talk.
21:52 Bled for my evil thoughts.
21:54 But his blood covers all my sins.
22:00 His blood sets me free.
22:02 His blood saves me.
22:06 Let me tell you something.
22:07 We don't fight for victory.
22:10 We fight from victory, because his blood has already won.
22:16 I feel the power of his blood right now in this place.
22:20 Oh, somebody better tell the devil to back up now.
22:24 Cancer better back up now.
22:26 Leprosy better back up now.
22:28 Leukemia better back up now.
22:30 Bankruptcy better back up now.
22:33 Divorce better back up right now.
22:37 Fear better back up right now.
22:39 Because there's power in the blood of the Lamb.
22:48 It was there by faith that I received my sight, and now I
22:59 am happy all the day at the cross, at the cross.
23:10 God, right now, thank you for your blood.
23:17 Oh, it's powerful.
23:19 God, when we survey the wondrous cross, when we
23:22 consider that, Lord, you sacrificed your life for our
23:27 liberty, when we consider the fact that, Lord, because of
23:32 your blood, that we are free, that because of your blood we
23:36 can have eternal life, Lord, I just get chills up my spine.
23:40 Thank you for loving us so much that you sent your Son,
23:47 Jesus, to die for each and every one of us.
23:51 And Lord, if there's no one else in this church right now
23:54 that's excited about your blood, Lord, know that I'm
23:56 excited right now.
23:58 God, I'm happy, I'm thankful, I praise you for your blood.
24:02 But God, I don't believe I'm alone.
24:04 I believe there are some people, a whole lot of people,
24:07 if not everybody up in this place, that is excited about
24:14 what the blood does for each and every one of us.
24:17 Lord, I'm grateful that the blood never loses its power,
24:18 365 days of the year it never loses its power.
24:23 Thank you, God, that there's power in the blood.
24:28 And so, God, as we are about to go into this, the Lord's
24:33 supper, I pray, I pray for your anointing, the Holy
24:40 Ghost, in this place.
24:42 And I pray and I ask that, God, no one will leave here
24:46 the same way they came.
24:48 But because of the blood, we can be happy all the day.
24:53 In Jesus' name, Amen.
