from verse 22: "And straightway

Jesus constrained his
disciples to get into a ship,

and to go before him unto the
other side, while he sent the

multitudes away. " Verse
23: "And when he had sent the

multitudes away, he went up
into a mountain apart to pray:

and when the evening was
come, he was there alone.

But the ship was now in the
midst of the sea, tossed with

wind was contrary.

text that a storm comes.

Now, I want you
to see this storm.

The storm is raising.
00:02:25.70\00:02:26.86
This is a serious storm.

Trouble is all
around the disciples.

It's dark, it's hazy,
about four o'clock in the
00:02:34.00\00:02:37.86
morning and for hours
these disciples have been
00:02:37.86\00:02:41.10
wrestling with this storm.
00:02:41.10\00:02:43.10
And the only authority
that the disciples have over
00:02:43.10\00:02:45.03
this storm is a voice of fear.
00:02:45.03\00:02:48.56
Right there in the storm I
can hear them say, "If only the
00:02:48.56\00:02:52.60
master were here.
00:02:52.60\00:02:53.56
If only Jesus were here.
00:02:53.56\00:02:56.46
Jesus knows how to handle
a storm." You see, all these
00:02:56.46\00:03:01.20
disciples had had some
previous experience in a storm
00:03:01.20\00:03:04.26
with Jesus before, because
they were out on a ship one
00:03:04.26\00:03:07.53
day and it looked like the
boat was going to turn over,
00:03:07.53\00:03:09.43
the Bible teaches that Jesus
was in the bottom of the ship.
00:03:09.43\00:03:12.23
He was in the bottom of
the ship and somebody said,
00:03:12.23\00:03:14.30
you better go
down and wake Jesus up.
00:03:14.30\00:03:17.50
We're about to lose our lives.
00:03:17.50\00:03:19.60
I know he's taking a nap.
00:03:19.60\00:03:21.90
I know he's preached hard.

I know he's worked hard,
but somebody better go wake

Jesus up and tell Jesus
we're in a storm and he needs to

come and handle this storm.

And so the Bible teaches, they
went down in the bottom of the

ship and they wake
Jesus up and they say, Master,

the tempest is raging.

The billows are tossing high.
00:03:41.93\00:03:44.33
Carest thou not that we perish?

You need to get up, Jesus,
and handle the storm or we're
00:03:47.86\00:03:51.50
going to lose our lives.
00:03:51.50\00:03:54.93
And so the disciples in
the middle of the fourth watch

say, if only Jesus were here.
00:03:58.40\00:04:03.73
He knows how to deal with
a storm, but where is Jesus?

Right while they're
talking they notice a walker
00:04:07.70\00:04:14.13
on the water.
00:04:14.13\00:04:16.13
Now remember, it's about
four o'clock in the morning.
00:04:16.13\00:04:20.33
They cannot see clearly.
00:04:20.33\00:04:23.00
It's hazy. It's cloudy.
00:04:23.00\00:04:25.96
It's foggy.
00:04:25.96\00:04:27.93
They cannot really
figure out what is on the water.

But they do know that somebody
is walking on the water.

Fear grips their hearts and
it's at that time that I can

hear Jesus speaking.

Jesus knew his disciples.

He knew they had
this spirit of fear.

And it was about at that
time that Jesus says, "It is I,

be not afraid." Now,
outspoken Peter, never

tongue-tied Peter, hears
this voice and I can hear Peter

saying, shhh, shhh Be quiet.

I hear something.
00:05:18.03\00:05:21.20
I know that voice is far
in the distance and I know
00:05:21.20\00:05:27.36
I can't see the figure,
but I recognize that voice.

I've heard that voice before.

That voice sounds familiar.

you have to be able

Jesus was so happy to
hear Peter say, bid me come,

be another lesson learned here

impossibilities can

that place of comfort.

The Lord says, if you
want to come, come on.

Peter tells Jesus, I want
to do what you're doing, Jesus.

In other words, I want to
step out of my comfort zone.

I want to move on
up a little higher.

Now, remember, friends,
there's a storm on the sea.

The Bible says that
the winds are contrary.

sermon on contrary winds.

The winds are contrary.

The Bible says that a storm
is taking place and the safest

place for a person like
Peter, who, by the way is a

fisherman, is on the ship.

Because you're on water
and you're in a storm, the
00:09:13.26\00:09:15.76
safest place to
be is in the ship.

The ship represents comfort,
but Peter was willing to step
00:09:18.63\00:09:21.80
away from comfort and be
where God would have him be.

I've learned in life
that there are some people who

would rather stay on the
ship without Jesus than to be
00:09:29.73\00:09:33.80
off the ship with Jesus.

I'm trying to help
somebody right now.

But let me tell
you all something.

I don't care what
ship you're on, if Jesus

isn't on it.

I don't care if it's a

if it's a

fellowship, it's going
to be a hardship if Jesus

careful with our faith.

If you're too careful with
your faith, you're not going

to be able to deal
with the impossibilities.

on water just like you.

there were other disciples

You've got to watch
who you're hanging with.

You have to watch who you
hang with because there are some

folk who don't

going to get out of the boat

They're sitting in the
boat talking about, don't

I can see Jesus saying,

come that there will be a

that will cause you to lose your
