00:06 ♪ Jesus is worthy ♪ 00:11 ♪ oh yes he's worthy♪ 00:15 ♪worthy of all ♪ 00:23 Praise be to God. 00:24 I want to welcome those who are watching here 00:26 at the Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:28 home of the Breath of Life telecast here at Berean 00:30 in Atlanta Georgia. 00:32 I'm Dr. Carlton Byrd and we're excited about 00:34 the Word of God today. 00:36 I want you to take your Bibles and go with me to 00:38 the book of Joshua. 00:39 We're going to Joshua chapter 6 first to verse 1. 00:50 Joshua 6:1. 00:54 If you have it let me hear you say Amen. 01:02 Joshua 6:1 the Word of God says 01:05 "Now the gates of Jericho was straightly shut up because 01:10 of the children of Israel. 01:12 None went out and none came in."Verse 2: 01:15 "And the LORD said unto Joshua 01:19 See I have given into thine hand Jericho." 01:23 What city everybody? Jericho. 01:28 "And the king thereof and the mighty men of valor." 01:30 Verse 3: "And ye shall compass the city all ye men of war 01:35 and go round about the city once. 01:39 Thus shalt thou do six days. 01:43 And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets 01:47 of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass 01:53 the city seven times and the priests shall blow 01:57 with the trumpets."Verse 5: "And it shall come to pass 02:00 that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn 02:06 and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet 02:10 all the people shall"do what? 02:12 Shout. Come on say it like you mean it. 02:15 They shall what? 02:16 "shout with a great shout." 02:19 So the Bible says they're going to shout with a great shout. 02:22 "And the wall of the city shall fall down flat 02:24 and the people shall ascend up every man straight 02:27 before him." 02:29 Today we want to talk about powerwalkers. 02:32 Everybody say powerwalkers. 02:34 Father God bless us now as we go into your Word. 02:39 We pray the Holy Spirit will come in a mighty 02:41 way in this place. 02:43 God go over the airwaves even through the power 02:45 of your Holy Spirit. 02:47 When we will have concluded today 02:49 we will be able to say God was here. 02:52 Bless us to this end we pray. 02:54 Hide me behind your cross. 02:55 Forgive us for our sins. 02:56 In the name of Jesus. 02:58 Everyone say Amen. And Amen. 03:03 Powerwalkers. Amen. 03:05 There are so many lessons in this journey of faith that 03:14 we learn in a lifetime. 03:15 We get to know God through life's experiences. 03:19 And the things we get to know about God are based on the 03:24 experiences that we've gone through. 03:26 But I've learned in this life that there are so many people 03:31 who go through life hopeless and helpless simply because 03:36 they are not aware of who God is. 03:39 But when you've been through enough stuff for yourself 03:43 you don't need anybody else to tell you who God is or what 03:47 God is able to do because you know God for yourself. 03:52 Do I have a witness in this place? 03:54 This is the good thing about experiential knowledge 03:57 because it's not based solely on what somebody has told you 04:01 but it's based on what you know for yourself. 04:05 And without the series of experiences in my life 04:08 I never would really get to know God like I now know God. 04:12 That's why everything God allows me to go through 04:16 I have to thank him for the experience because God 04:19 is building for me and developing for me 04:23 a spiritual resume. 04:26 And you understand that when I look back over my life 04:29 and when I review this spiritual resume 04:34 I can look at the fact that when I was hungry 04:37 God provided. 04:39 When my mind was troubled God was a mind regulator. 04:44 When I was sick God was a healer. 04:46 When I was lonely God was a company keeper. 04:50 When I was out there God made a way out of no way. 04:55 So it's based on what I've experienced in God. 05:01 It's based on what I've seen God do in my life. 05:05 It's based on what I have felt in my life. 05:08 Do I have a witness in this place? 05:10 And so I've learned that sometimes God allows and even 05:16 sends tough experiences to develop some things 05:20 in our lives. 05:23 Now in Joshua chapter six 05:26 the children of Israel are confronted with a 05:28 tough experience. 05:30 They are confronted with the wall of Jericho. 05:34 They can't go through the wall they can't 05:37 penetrate the wall they're just looking at the 05:40 wall. Now remember God has brought the children 05:46 of Israel out of Egypt. 05:48 God has delivered them from the fiery hand of Pharaoh. 05:52 God made a Red Sea a dry highway. 05:56 God has given them the Ten Commandments. 06:00 God gave them water out of a rock. 06:03 God set up a dry cleaners in the desert where they had no 06:06 washing machine no dryer 06:09 no bathtub no shower 06:11 but their clothes were fresh their bodies were clean every 06:14 day. 06:15 When they were hungry God gave them barbecued 06:18 manna french fried manna 06:23 deep fried manna baked manna 06:29 stewed manna curried manna 06:33 and for my island friends I believe God was creative 06:35 and gave them some jerk manna. 06:37 Do I have a witness in this place? 06:39 And now God has brought them to the wall of Jericho. 06:45 Here are the children of Israel. 06:47 They're going to overtake Jericho. 06:49 They don't have sticks they don't have stones 06:52 they don't have bows they don't have arrows 06:55 they don't have weapons but yet they are supposed to 06:57 overtake Jericho. 06:59 They are supposed to overcome the wall. 07:02 And so Joshua the leader 07:04 like Moses Joshua does not ask the 07:08 people what they think ought to happen. 07:12 Joshua doesn't call a board meeting. 07:15 Joshua doesn't call the trustees together. 07:18 Joshua does not call a committee. 07:21 Joshua talks to the Almighty God. 07:25 You see there are 07:26 I've learned in life sometimes you have life 07:28 experiences that you can't talk to everybody 07:32 but you've got to talk to God. 07:34 Lesson number one for us today be careful 07:37 where you get your advice from during those 07:41 tough times in your life. 07:43 Because you can do one of two things. 07:46 You can either listen to people 07:48 or you can listen to God. 07:51 And I don't know about you but I'm going to listen to 07:52 God. 07:53 Are you hearing what I'm saying? 07:54 Now look at the text. 07:57 Look at Joshua 6 and look with me at verse 1. 08:01 "Now the gates of Jericho was straightly shut up because of 08:12 the children of Israel. 08:13 None went out and none came in."Jericho was shut up. 08:20 The children of Israel were trying to take Jericho 08:24 and go beyond Jericho but they were trapped between 08:27 what they had been delivered from and what they were trying 08:30 to get into. 08:32 Why is Jericho shut up? 08:34 Jericho is shut up because the people fear Israel. 08:40 The people of Jericho are afraid of Israel. 08:44 What is this saying to us today? 08:46 Lesson number two: The enemy is afraid of a child of God. 08:52 For the said thing is many of God's children don't 08:56 even know that the enemy is afraid of you. 09:00 So we live like we're afraid of the devil and we don't 09:04 realize that the devil is afraid of us. 09:09 Let me illustrate the point. 09:10 Go with me to Joshua chapter 2. 09:12 Go to verse 10. 09:16 Let me show you how the enemies of the people of God 09:19 are afraid of the people of God. 09:20 Joshua 2:10. 09:23 Why were they afraid of God's children? 09:25 The Bible says "For we have heard how the 09:30 Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you 09:34 when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two 09:40 kings of the Amorites that were on the other side 09:43 Jordan Sihon and Og 09:45 whom ye utterly destroyed." 09:46 Verse 11: And the Word says "And as soon as we had heard 09:49 these things our hearts did melt 09:53 neither did there remain any more courage in any man 09:56 because of you: for the Lord your God 10:00 he is God in heaven above "hallelujah somebody 10:04 "and in earth beneath." 10:07 If the enemy is afraid of you why are you 10:12 afraid of the enemy? 10:16 Jericho is shut up because the enemy is aware that God fights 10:22 your battles. 10:24 If I just hold my piece and let the Lord fight my battles 10:27 then victory shall be mine. 10:29 So let's make this practical for us today. 10:33 You want to know why there are some things shut up from you 10:35 in your life? 10:38 Because they are afraid of you. 10:39 Let me share this with you: When the hand of 10:41 God is on you when God's hand 10:44 is on your life people don't know how 10:46 to deal with you. 10:47 People don't know how to deal with you because people don't 10:51 know how to control you. 10:52 They don't know how to take you 10:53 they don't know which angle you're coming from 10:55 because they're afraid of the God in you. 10:57 I can't get any witnesses in this place. 10:59 But go back to Joshua 6 and go to verse 2. 11:05 The Bible says in Joshua 6:2 "And the Lord said unto 11:11 Joshua."I didn't too many Amens there. 11:14 Let me read that one more time. 11:16 The Bible says "And the Lord said unto 11:20 Joshua."Let's try it with the baptismal candidates. 11:23 Let me talk to you. 11:24 They still don't have it. 11:24 The Bible says "And the Lord said unto" 11:29 whom? 11:29 Joshua. 11:31 That's better. 11:32 While you're busy trying to find out what God is saying to 11:34 other folk you ought to be hearing what 11:37 God is saying to you. 11:38 Do I have a witness in this place? 11:41 Because you can't hear what God is saying to you and what 11:43 someone else is saying to you at the same time. 11:45 Remember lesson number one: Either you're going to listen 11:47 to God or you're going to listen to somebody else. 11:50 And understand God sometimes he does speak 11:54 through people to speak to you. 11:56 You ask the question but Pastor Byrd 11:58 how do I know if they are of God? 12:00 Because the Bible says in Isaiah 8:20 12:01 "To the law and to the testimony 12:04 if they speak not according to this word 12:06 it is because there is no light in them."Go back to 12:10 verse 2: "And the Lord said unto Joshua See 12:15 I have given into thine hand Jericho."Oooh 12:23 before the battle had even begun God said 12:25 I have given already into thine hand the city of 12:29 Jericho. 12:29 Somebody you ought to all hear me 12:30 right now. 12:31 "I have given into thine hand Jericho 12:35 and the king thereof and the mighty men of 12:38 valor."Now notice what the Word of God 12:40 says in the text. 12:41 God's Word says in the text "I have given into thine hand 12:46 Jericho."He's saying Joshua 12:50 I've given you the city. 12:53 Not I will give you the city. 12:55 But I have already given you the city. 13:00 You all hear what I'm saying? 13:00 In other words God is saying to us 13:03 lesson number three before you even get there 13:07 before you even do anything it's already fixed. 13:13 It's already yours based on what God has already 13:17 spoken. 13:18 Hallelujah somebody. 13:19 If God can speak something out of nothing at Creation 13:23 surely God can speak victory in your life before you even 13:27 fight the battle. 13:29 But the problem is the problem is we're looking 13:33 at our situations and we're becoming so 13:37 discouraged because it looks impossible. 13:44 We get stuck at verse 1. 13:45 I don't know what I'm going to do. 13:46 I don't know how it's going to happen. 13:48 You're stuck at verse 1. 13:50 Jericho is shut up. 13:52 No one can get in and no one can get out. 13:57 But when you get to verse 2 God says see 14:02 I have given into thine hand Jericho. 14:06 God is saying look in the Spirit. 14:09 Don't look in the natural because if you look in the 14:13 natural you're going to miss this 14:14 thing. 14:15 If you look in the natural it's not going to make sense. 14:19 If you look in the natural it's not going to happen 14:22 but if you look in the Spirit 14:25 you're able to say I have. 14:29 Then in verse 3 God begins to give the plan. 14:33 Look at verse 3. 14:35 He says "And ye shall compass 14:39 "which means march around march around "the city 14:44 all ye men of war and go round about the city 14:46 once."But you're going to go around the city how many days? 14:51 Six days. 14:53 In other words walk around Jericho's walls 14:56 six days once or one time each day. 15:02 Better yet God said 15:04 I want you to do powerwalk. 15:07 Because this was different than just normal walking. 15:12 This was powerwalking. 15:15 Because the power of the Holy Ghost would accompany and 15:18 order their steps. 15:21 I want you to powerwalk around the walls of Jericho. 15:25 Now let me stop here for a 15:26 moment. 15:27 I'm saying powerwalk and some of you are looking 15:30 at me like I'm crazy. 15:32 The term powerwalking should not be foreign or new to us 15:35 because we hear people talking about powerwalking all the 15:39 time. 15:41 Powerwalking is a form of exercise. 15:42 Are you hearing what I'm saying? 15:44 Powerwalking is not just mere walking 15:46 but when you're powerwalking you're powerwalking. 15:48 You're walking around with a confidence. 15:50 Are you hearing what I'm saying? 15:51 Now in our world today 15:53 when we talk about powerwalking 15:55 there's more talk about exercise 15:57 losing weight eating right 15:59 fighting obesity than there's ever been 16:01 before. 16:02 Amen somebody. 16:04 Dr. Oz talks about it. 16:06 Oprah talks about it. 16:08 Michelle Obama talks about it. 16:11 We have diet plan this diet plan that 16:16 Dr. Ian Smith Million Pound Challenge. 16:20 South Beach diet. 16:21 Atkins diet. 16:23 Cabbage soup diet. 16:25 Water diet. 16:28 Water with lemon diet and even NBC television 16:31 introduced "The Biggest Loser" to motivate losing weight and 16:35 healthy lifestyle. 16:36 People who diet go to great lengths to avoid great wit. 16:43 You got it now huh? 16:49 But the odds against a diet succeeding are 3 to 1. 16:57 What do you mean Pastor Byrd 16:59 3 to 1? 17:00 A knife a fork and a spoon versus 17:05 you? 17:06 Do I have a witness in this place? 17:08 But in all these diet plans let me give you some free 17:11 counsel. 17:12 Someone said if you want to be healthy and 17:14 you want to lose weight eat what you don't want 17:18 drink what you don't like and do what you'd rather not 17:23 do. 17:24 Do I have a witness in this place? 17:26 In other words keep an open mind and a 17:28 closed refrigerator. 17:30 But in all this dieting someone introduced not just 17:35 walking but powerwalking. 17:38 Powerwalking is also known as speed walking. 17:42 Not jogging not running 17:44 but powerwalking. 17:46 Walking at a speed faster than walking 17:50 but at a pace slower than running. 17:53 Powerwalking. 17:55 Because scientists and medical persons say it will keep the 17:59 heart beating but will be easy on your joints when you hit 18:03 the ground with less than half the force you do when you jog. 18:08 Powerwalking because thousands of doctors recommend it 18:14 hundreds of studies affirm it and millions of people do it. 18:17 Powerwalking. 18:19 It's simple it's easy 18:22 it's different from normal. 18:23 It's powerwalking. 18:25 God says to his people I want you to powerwalk. 18:31 You don't have to run you don't have to jog. 18:34 I want you to powerwalk. 18:36 That's how you're going to fight this. 18:39 That's how Jericho's walls are going to fall. 18:41 Powerwalking. 18:43 The Holy Ghost is going to give you power in your steps 18:47 and the walls of Jericho are going to come tumbling down. 18:51 Now on the surface the thought of 18:54 invading and overtaking Jericho seemed absurd. 19:00 That they were to overtake Jericho without weapons was 19:04 even more crazy. 19:06 But sometimes I've learned in life the things of God appear 19:11 strange to man. 19:14 But I've learned that it doesn't make a difference what 19:17 it looks like that whenever God 19:19 gives you a word you already have the victory. 19:24 Because if God said it that settles it. 19:28 God says my ways are not your ways 19:31 my thoughts are not your thoughts. 19:34 God is not a God that God should lie. 19:36 God is not the Son of Man that God should repent. 19:39 If the Lord said it you can count on it 19:43 he will do just what he says and words shall not return 19:47 until him void but it will accomplish what 19:50 it set out to do. 19:53 God told the children of Israel 19:55 I want you to powerwalk. 19:59 Powerwalk. 20:01 Powerwalk around Jericho for six days 20:04 one time each day. 20:07 He continues God does 20:08 with the plan in verse 4. 20:10 The Word says "And seven priests shall bear 20:14 before the ark seven trus of rams' horns: and the 20:20 seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times 20:24 and the priests shall blow with the trumpets."What is 20:29 the Word saying? 20:30 On the first six days they were supposed to 20:35 powerwalk around Jericho one time. 20:39 But the Bible says that on the seventh day they were to 20:43 powerwalk around Jericho's walls seven times. 20:48 Verse 5: "And it shall come to pass 20:50 that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn 20:54 and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet 20:58 all the people shall shout "hallelujah 21:02 "with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall 21:07 down flat and the people shall ascend 21:09 up every man straight before him."Verse 6: "And Joshua 21:13 the son of Nun called the priests and said 21:16 until them take up the ark of the 21:18 covenant."Let me stop right there. 21:21 Now watch this. 21:23 In verses 4 and 5 God gives instructions. In verse 6 21:27 Joshua does it. 21:28 In verses 4 and 5 God tells Joshua what to do. 21:32 In verse 6 Joshua does it. 21:34 Joshua doesn't say well Lord you know that 21:37 doesn't make sense. 21:39 Joshua does not say well Lord that's illogical. 21:42 Can't I do it this way? 21:44 No Joshua says 21:47 I'm just going to do it. 21:49 Joshua does it. 21:50 Turn to your neighbor and say just do it. 21:52 Tell them just do it. 21:53 You know why I'm telling you just do it? 21:56 Because lesson number four: While you're trying to 21:58 rationalize in your mind what God is doing 22:02 and it may not make sense to you 22:04 you ought to just go ahead and do it 22:07 because God knows just what he's doing. 22:10 After all God's been God longer than you've been you. 22:13 Do I have a witness in this place? 22:16 Go back to verse 6. 22:17 "Joshua the son of Nun 22:20 called the priests and said until them 22:22 take up the ark of the covenant. 22:23 And let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns 22:25 before the ark of the Lord." 22:27 Verse 7: And he said unto the people 22:29 Pass on and compass the city 22:30 and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the 22:32 Lord."Verse 8: "And it came to pass 22:33 when Joshua had spoken unto the people 22:36 that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of 22:38 rams' horns passed on before the Lord 22:41 and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of 22:43 the Lord followed them."Verse 9: "And the armed men went 22:46 before the priests that blew with the trumpets 22:49 and the rearward "or rear guard 22:51 "came after the ark the priests going on 22:53 and blowing with the trumpets."Joshua 22:57 take the ark of the covenant but before you send out the 23:02 ark of the covenant get seven priests 23:05 put them before the ark and let them blow trumpets of 23:08 rams' horns. 23:10 But before you send out the priests to blow rams' horns 23:13 send out some soldiers. 23:16 Send out some armed men to go before the trumpet blowers. 23:19 God is saying I need some soldiers. 23:22 God says go get me some men who are 23:25 not afraid. 23:26 Go get me some men who are not scared. who are 23:29 not afraid before you. 23:30 God says I don't need any cowards. 23:33 God says I need some men who are strong. 23:36 God says I need some men who are not 23:38 afraid to go into the enemy's camp and look the enemy dead 23:42 in the eye and say in the name of Jesus I'm 23:44 here and I'm not going anywhere 23:47 until I did what I came for. 23:51 Too many of us we walk around like Christian 23:53 cowards. 23:55 Walk around defeated. 23:56 We're too afraid to confront the enemy. 24:00 The devil is beating you on every hand 24:03 doing this and doing that. 24:04 But sometimes you've got to go into the enemy's camp and say 24:08 devil I'm not going to take another 24:10 day of this. 24:11 Drawing a line in the sand. 24:13 I've had enough. 24:15 I'm here and I'm here to stay. 24:17 I'm going to fight this fight. 24:19 Do I have a witness in this place?
