00:28 we are grateful to be in the Word today.
00:30 Today we're going to get in the Word once again because
00:35 if it's in the Word it deserves to be heard.
00:37 Praise be to God.
00:39 And we're going to the Book of Genesis, chapter two verse 7
00:43 The Word of God says, "And the Lord, "God
00:44 formed man of the, what of the ground?
00:47 Dust of the ground.
00:47 "And breathed into his nostrils the breath of"

01:27 Death.
01:28 What is death?
01:29 What does death mean?
01:31 What is it all about?
01:32 What is death?
01:34 Well, I want to say this from the beginning today, what a
01:37 mighty God we serve.
01:40 What a mighty God we serve.
01:41 Angels bow down before Him.
01:43 Heaven and earth adore him, what?
01:46 A mighty God we serve.
01:48 I'm here to let you know that there are some things about
01:51 the mighty God we serve.
01:52 Number one, God is omnipresent, God is omniscient
01:56 and God is omnipotent.
01:59 Which means God is all powerful, God is all knowing
02:03 and God is all places all at the same time.
02:07 But not only is God all of that, but God is sovereign.
02:11 Which means God can do what He wants, when He wants, where He
02:14 wants, how He wants and He doesn't have to ask you and
02:17 me for permission to do what He wants.
02:20 But not only is God sovereign, God is timeless.
02:26 God was always here, has always been here, always will
02:30 be here, always was, always is.
02:34 And because God is all of that and because God is timeless,
02:37 God, my friends, is immortal.
02:41 Which means God can't die.
02:43 God can't die.
02:44 God is uncreated.
02:46 God is self-existent.
02:48 God has no beginning and God has no end.
02:52 Now, on the other hand, human beings are mortal.
02:56 Everybody say mortal.
02:57 Mortal means subject to death.
03:01 Human beings are mortal.
03:03 Mortal means subject to death.
03:06 Mortuary means house of death.
03:10 Mortician means a person who works with the dead.
03:15 And mortgage means you'll pay it until you're dead.
03:18 Do I have a witness in this place?
03:23 God is infinite.
03:25 Man is finite.
03:27 God is eternal.
03:30 Human beings are transitory.
03:32 God is immortal.
03:34 Humans are mortal.
03:36 No human lives forever.
03:40 All humans are subject to death.
03:42 Are you hearing what I'm saying?
03:44 The Bible is very clear.
03:45 In Ecclesiastes 9, verses 5 and 6, "For the living know
03:49 that they shall die, but the dead know not anything."
03:55 James 4:14 describes the lives of humans as a vapor, that
03:58 appears for a little time and then it vanishes away.
04:03 Now, we know that God, according to Genesis,
04:05 chapter 1, we know that God
04:07 created this earth in six literal days.
04:12 On day six, God created man.
04:15 God created what, everybody?
04:16 Now, the Bible is very clear in Genesis,
04:19 chapter 1, verse 1.
04:20 "In the beginning God created the heavens and
04:23 the, "what? Earth.
04:24 The Bible goes on Genesis, chapter 1, verse 26 and says,
04:28 "And God said, let us make man in our image,
04:32 after our likeness.
04:33 The evening and the morning were the sixth day.
04:36 So let me be clear right now and hear me well.
04:38 Man didn't come from monkeys.
04:44 Man came from God.
04:46 Man did not come from a big bang theory.
04:50 Man came from God.
04:53 God created man.
04:55 Are you hearing what I'm saying, everybody?
04:57 Now, how did God create man in the beginning?
05:00 Let's go back to Genesis.
05:02 What book did I say, everybody?
05:03 Let's go back to Genesis, chapter 2, verse 7 .
05:06 Genesis 2:7.
05:08 How did God create man in the beginning?
05:11 The Word of God says, "And the Lord God formed man of the
05:15 dust of the,"what?
05:16 Ground.
05:17 "And breathed into man's, "what?
05:20 Nostrils.
05:20 The breath of what?
05:21 Life.
05:22 "And man became a living," what?
05:25 Now, there are two, how many, everybody?
05:27 There are two primary elements in which God created man.
05:33 God, the Bible teaches, took dust of the ground and breath
05:38 of life and man became a living what?
05:42 If we have dust but we don't have breath, do we
05:46 have a living soul?
05:46 No.
05:47 Because we need dust of the ground and what?
05:49 Breath of life to become a living what? Soul.
05:53 If we don't have dust, but we have breath,
05:56 are we a living soul?
05:58 No.
05:59 Because dust of the ground plus breath of life equal
06:01 a living what?
06:03 Soul.
06:05 We're very clear, number one, that God created man.
06:10 We're very clear that God is immortal, which means God is
06:14 not subject to death.
06:16 But we're also very clear that man is mortal, which
06:19 means man is subject to death.
06:22 We're very clear that man didn't come from monkeys.
06:25 We're very clear there was no big-bang theory, that man
06:29 came from God and God created man by taking the dust of the
06:34 ground, breathing into his nostrils the breath of life
06:37 man became a living what?
06:39 Soul.
06:41 Now then, Pastor Byrd, what happens to an
06:44 individual at death?
06:46 We know how an individual got here, God created them, dust
06:49 of ground, breath of life, living soul, but what happens,
06:51 what's the reverse of that process?
06:54 Well, go with me to the book of Ecclesiastes.
06:56 What book, everybody?
06:57 Ecclesiastes, chapter 12 and we're going to verse 7.
07:01 Ecclesiastes 12:7.
07:02 Now, we are very clear that God took two elements
07:04 to create man.
07:04 Dust from the ground, breath of life, and man became
07:07 a living soul.
07:09 What happens when an individual dies?
07:11 The reverse of that process.
07:13 The Word of God says in Ecclesiastes 12:7, if you're
07:17 with me you say Amen.
07:18 Amen.
07:21 "Then shall the dust return to the, "what? Earth.
07:23 As it was.
07:24 "And the spirit shall return to, whom, everybody?
07:28 The spirit shall return to whom?
07:29 God, Who gave it.
07:31 So let's be clear.
07:32 Two elements created man, dust of the ground, breath of life,
07:35 man became a living, what?
07:37 Soul.
07:38 When an individual dies, the Bible says in Ecclesiastes
07:41 12:7 that the body returns to what? Dust.
07:46 And the spirit returns to whom?
07:48 God.
07:48 The spirit returns to God.
07:49 That's very clear.
07:50 Okay.
07:51 When an individual dies then body returns to dust, spirit
07:54 returns to God.
07:56 Pastor Byrd, aren't the spirit and the soul
07:58 the same thing?
08:01 Because I hear all the time, okay, body returns to dust.
08:03 That's fine.
08:04 But the Bible says the spirit returns to God.
08:06 So doesn't the soul return to God?
08:09 I know we just read that dust of the ground, breath of life,
08:12 living soul.
08:15 But how do we know what the spirit is?
08:16 Is the spirit the breath that was breathed into man's
08:19 nostrils or is the spirit the same thing as the soul?
08:24 When an individual dies, body returns to dust, spirit
08:26 returns to God.
08:26 But how do we know what the spirit is?
08:31 Go to the Book of Job.
08:32 Job 27:3.
08:37 The Word of God says, "All the while my, what?
08:40 Breath.
08:42 My what, everybody?
08:43 Breath is in me and the, what?
08:45 Spirit of God is in my, what?
08:47 All right.
08:49 Let's stay right there for a minute.
08:51 All the while my breath is in me and the spirit of whom?
08:54 God, is in my what?
08:56 From this text we discover that the spirit and the breath
09:01 are one and the same.
09:04 Are you hearing what I'm saying?
09:05 So that nullifies that thought that says, well the spirit and
09:08 the soul are the same.
09:09 No, the spirit and the breath, which is in one's nostrils,
09:12 are the same.
09:13 Understand, God took two elements to create man.
09:16 Dust of the what?
09:18 Ground.
09:19 Breath into his what?
09:19 Nostrils.
09:20 The breath of what?
09:21 Life.
09:21 Man became a living what?
09:22 I must have dust plus what?
09:25 Breath, in order to be a living what? Soul.
09:29 When an individual dies the body returns to what?
09:30 Dust.
09:31 The spirit which is the breath of life, which is in one's
09:34 nostrils, returns to whom, everybody?
09:37 God.
09:39 That's what the Word says.
09:41 Pastor, we don't have souls because we are souls,
09:45 so do souls die?
09:49 Go with me to the Book of Ezekiel.
09:52 Let's get some more Word.
09:57 Know what you believe, know why you believe and
09:59 know where it's found.
10:00 Ezekiel.
10:00 What book did I say, everybody?
10:02 And we're going to chapter 18.
10:04 "Behold all souls are," what? Mine.
10:07 As the soul of the Father, so also the soul of the Son is,
10:11 what? Mine.
10:13 The soul that, what?
10:14 Sinneth. It shall what?
10:16 Die.
10:17 So the question is asked, do souls die?
10:19 The answer is yes.
10:20 Because the soul that sinneth it shall die.
10:25 And in case you didn't know, I'm here to let you know
10:28 that all of us have sinned.
10:29 All of us have come short of the glory of God.
10:33 So guess what?
10:34 That harmonizes with what we read in Ecclesiastes,
10:37 "For the living know that they shall die,
10:39 but the dead know not anything, "because all
10:41 of us have sinned, come short of the glory of God, and the
10:45 Bible is clear that the soul that sinneth it shall die.
10:49 Dead people are dead people.
10:57 Pastor, what do you mean?
10:58 Go with me to the Book of Job.
11:00 Job, chapter 7.
11:01 Dead people cannot go back Job 7:9, the Word of God says,

11:18 Well Big Mama came and haunted my house.
11:20 No, Big Mama didn't.
11:21 You just ate too much before you went to sleep.
11:24 Job 14:12.
11:28 The Word of God says, "So man lieth down and arises not
11:34 to the heavens but no," what? More.
11:38 They shall not, what?
11:39 Awake.
11:40 Nor be raised out of their, what, everybody?

11:42 Go to verse 21.
11:43 "His sons come to honor, he knoweth it not.
11:46 And they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of
11:50 them."Dead people do not know what their loved ones on
11:54 earth are doing because they are dead.
11:56 Bodies return to dust, spirit returns to God, soul
11:59 ceases to exist.
12:01 They can't haunt houses, they don't know what their
12:03 loved ones do.
12:04 But let's get some more.
12:05 Go the Book of Psalms.
12:07 And we're going to Psalms 6.
12:10 Let's get some more Word.
12:11 Know what you believe, know why you believe it,
12:13 know where it's found.
12:15 Psalms 6 and we're going to verse 5.
12:18 Psalms 6:5.
12:21 The Word of God says to us in Psalms 6:5, "For in death
12:26 there is no remembrance of me. "In the grave, who shall
12:30 give thee thanks.
12:34 Dead people do not remember nor do they give thanks.
12:38 Why?
12:38 They are what? Dead.
12:40 Let's get some more.
12:41 The Word of God says in Psalms 115:17, "The dead
12:45 praise not,"the what?
12:48 Lord, "neither any that go down into, what?
12:50 That's why I'm getting my praise on why I've got
12:53 breath in my body.
12:54 I'm getting my praise on while I can lift my hands and
12:57 wave my hands because when I die I can't praise the Lord.
13:03 Let's get some more.
13:05 Go to Psalms 146.
13:07 Psalm 146 and we're going to verse 4.
13:11 Let's get some more Word.
13:12 The dead can't haunt houses.
13:14 The dead do not know what their loved ones are doing.
13:16 The dead do not remember or give thanks.
13:18 The dead cannot praise the Lord.
13:20 Psalm 146:4, the Word of God says, "His breath goeth forth.

13:34 Dead people cannot think.
13:37 I wonder what they're thinking about me?

13:43 Go to the Book of Isaiah.
13:44 verses 18-19.

14:02 Verse 19 , "The living he shall praise Thee as I do this

14:10 The dead can't learn truth because the dead are what?
14:13 Dead.
14:14 That's why it's so important.
14:15 That's why I have such a passion.
14:17 That's why I have such a desire to tell you who are
14:20 alive the truth of God's Word.
14:23 Because when you're dead, you're dead.
14:26 Who would be caught up to meet the Lord in the air at
14:28 Jesus' second coming if the dead in Christ were
14:30 already in heaven?
14:32 The Bible is clear that the dead in Christ shall rise,
14:35 what? First.
14:36 Then we still alive will be caught up to meet the Lord in
14:39 the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
14:42 Group number three, the unrighteous or the wicked
14:45 living, they die at the brightness of Christ's
14:47 second what? Coming.
14:48 Group number four, the wicked dead according to
14:50 Revelations 20:5, "The wicked dead
14:54 remain dead until the thousand years are finished. "Because
15:02 the Bible says there are how many resurrections?
15:04 Two resurrections.
15:05 First resurrection same time as Jesus' second coming.
15:08 The dead in Christ rise, we which are alive and remain are
15:11 caught up, wicked living die at the brightness of his
15:13 coming, wicked dead remain dead.
15:15 One thousand years.
15:16 The righteous are in heaven participating in judgment.
15:18 Remember, Satan is on this earth.
15:20 He is bound, he is on vacation because he can't deceive
15:23 anybody else because everybody is what? Dead.
15:26 At the end of the one thousand years there's a resurrection
15:30 of the wicked.
15:34 A resurrection of the wicked.
15:37 Remember we told you previously, Pastor Byrd,
15:39 why would God resurrect the wicked
15:42 only for them to die again?
15:44 We told you, because the prophecy must come to pass.
15:48 There's a day coming when everybody who's ever lived,
15:51 we will all be alive at the same time.
15:54 If you lived in 2000 or if you lived in year 2,
15:57 we'll all be alive at the same time,
15:59 because the prophecy must come to pass that one day every
16:03 knee is going to bow, every tongue is going to confess
16:06 that Jesus the Christ is Lord.
16:09 Hallelujah, somebody.
16:10 At His first coming He came to save His people.
16:14 At his second coming, He's coming to get His people and
16:18 at the end of the thousand years, at His third coming,
16:21 He's coming back with His people, ride on King Jesus.
16:27 But let me tell you something.
16:30 Satan is a liar.
16:32 I said, Satan is a liar.
16:35 He wants to make you believe that dead people are alive and
16:40 can be contacted, but the living know that they shall
16:43 die, but the dead know not anything.
16:46 Let me tell you something.
16:47 Don't play with the devil.
16:50 All those questionable spirits, don't play
16:51 with the devil.
16:53 I say it all the time.
16:54 I don't ask everybody to pray for me.
16:55 You all don't hear what I'm saying.
16:57 You better learn to leave voodoo, Ouija boards, and all
17:00 those crazy spirits alone.
17:02 The Bible says in Isaiah 8:20, "To the Law and to the
17:05 testimony, if they speak not according to this Word, it is
17:09 because there is no light in them. "Satan knows the Bible
17:13 better than you.
17:14 Satan can quote scripture better than you.
17:16 Satan can preach better than you.
17:19 Satan can teach better than you.
17:21 If Satan tempted Jesus he will sure enough try to tempt you.
17:28 Satan will transform himself, 2 Corinthian says, "into an
17:32 angel of light."Let me remind you, he's not in a
17:36 red suit.
17:40 He doesn't have a pitchfork.
17:42 He doesn't have a horn or tail coming out of his back.
17:45 Satan will transform himself into an angel of light.
17:51 He will make himself appear as a minister of God's Word.
17:56 If you're not careful the devil can make you do some
17:59 mean ugly things all in the name of God.
18:03 He'll deceive you on the Word, he'll deceive you
18:07 on life, Satan will deceive you on death.
18:11 He'll deceive you on resurrection power, making you
18:14 think that he has the power to resurrect somebody.
18:18 But I'm here to let you know and serve notice to the devil,
18:23 Satan, you can't resurrect anybody.
18:26 Satan cannot give life, only Jesus can give life.
18:31 Jesus says, I am come that you might have life and have
18:34 it more abundantly.
18:36 Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the light.
18:40 Satan thought he had defeated Jesus on Calvary, but the
18:43 Bible says that on the third Appointed day Jesus got up with
18:48 all power in His hands and because He lives,
18:53 I can face tomorrow.
18:56 Because He lives, all fear is gone.
18:58 Because He got up, one day the dead in Christ are
19:03 going to get up.
19:05 one day this mortal is going to put on imortality.
19:09 one day, this corruptable is going to put on incorruption
19:13 and death is going to be swollowed up into victory.
19:17 Let me close this way.
19:19 When I was a little boy my dad used to like watching
19:22 cowboy movies.
19:24 He loved westerns.
19:27 Now, today we have color TV and DVR and all that, but
19:31 somebody knows back in the day it was just black and white.
19:37 My daddy loved westerns and I used to watch
19:42 the westerns with him.
19:45 When you do something long enough you'll
19:47 start liking it, too.
19:51 So I started liking them, too, because with westerns you knew
19:54 the plot from the beginning.
19:58 Good guy comes in, accused, he's on the run and he has
20:04 to prove his innocence.
20:07 And then there's the bad guy.
20:09 Hero becomes terror, protagonist becomes
20:12 antagonist.
20:14 The movie gets all the way to the end, the western is almost
20:18 over, and you begin to say in your mind, you begin to say
20:22 aloud, we're running out of time.
20:26 Are they ever going to vindicate the man.
20:29 Is the truth going to come out?
20:34 And you don't know what's going to happen because time
20:37 is running out.
20:41 And so, as a little boy, I used to love the Lone Ranger
20:45 and Tonto.
20:47 Somebody knows what I'm talking about.
20:50 Damsel is in distress.
20:53 She's lying out on the train tracks.
20:59 She's tied up.
20:59 Somebody knows what I'm talking about.
21:02 Train begins to come.
21:04 Choo-choo, choo-choo-choo.
21:09 You know this show is about to end.
21:12 And all of a sudden you begin to hear, da-ta-da-ta-da-da,
21:15 da-ta-da-ta-da-da.
21:19 And you know the Lone Ranger is near.
21:23 Because you knew this show would only last 30 minutes and
21:27 you were on minute 25, and as you're watching, it happens
21:32 all the time when you're in a good western movie,
21:36 there's a break in the show and all of a sudden a
21:41 commercial would come on talking about "we pause for
21:44 station identification.
21:47 I would say, Daddy, if they don't hurry
21:50 up and get this station identification off the
21:53 TV the train is going to come, that woman is on the tracks,
21:57 and the train's going to run over her and she's going to
21:59 die on the tracks.
22:02 I'm all nervous.
22:04 Those that know me know I'm high strung.
22:08 Bent out of shape.
22:11 My dad would look at me in my eyes and he would say,
22:15 "No need to worry, son.
22:17 No need to get excited.
22:20 " And then he would walk out of the room.
22:25 I would look at my dad and say, "Dad,"and I had
22:28 to do it respectful because my dad was bigger than me, you
22:30 know, and my dad believed spare the rod,
22:31 spoil the child.
22:32 You all know what I'm talking about.
22:33 My daddy wasn't one of them daddies tell me some time out.
22:36 I wish I had a witness in this place.
22:39 So I had to be careful.
22:40 "Daddy?
22:43 Where're you going?
22:45 Come back in here.
22:46 You are missing--the woman is on the train tracks, the train
22:50 is coming. "He would say, "Son, I already know how
22:54 it's going to end.
22:57 "Well, Daddy, how do you know how
23:01 it's going to end?
23:04 And he would say, "Because the same man that produced it
23:13 is the same man that directed it.,
23:16 "He would say, "The same man who wrote
23:19 the introduction is the same one
23:22 who wrote the conclusion."
23:24 He would say, "The same one who wrote the beginning is the
23:29 same one who wrote the ending. "And so I just
23:33 stopped by to tell somebody on my way to heaven that the same
23:38 one who wrote Genesis also wrote Revelations.
23:43 The same one that wrote about the Garden of Eden also wrote
23:47 about the Garden of Gethsemane.
23:49 The same one who wrote about Calvary also wrote about the
23:53 Resurrection.
23:56 We don't have to fret, because the battle's already
23:58 won, so wait till the battle is over.
24:01 Shout now, we've already won.
24:10 We don't fight for Calvary.
24:13 We don't fight for victory.
24:15 We fight from Calvary.
24:18 We fight from victory.
24:20 We've already won.
24:21 Satan thought he defeated Jesus, but Jesus, the
24:26 Resurrection and the Life, God has given us the victory
24:30 through Jesus Christ and one day, yes, every knee's
24:35 going to bow.
24:36 One day, yes, every tongue's going to confess that Jesus is
24:41 Lord, behold he cometh with clouds and every eye is going
24:47 to see him.
24:49 Death is not a period, but only a comma in
24:54 the story in life.
24:55 Death is not permanent, death is only a pause.
25:01 Death is not the end, death is only an interval.
25:06 For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven
25:10 with a shout.
25:11 With the voice of the archangel, the trump of God,
25:15 the dead in Christ are going to rise first.
25:20 Hallelujah, thine the glory.
25:22 Hallelujah. Amen.
25:26 Hallelujah, thine the glory.
25:28 God one day is going to revive us. Father, right now,
25:34 death can't keep us down.
25:42 It can't, because, Lord, 2,000 years ago Jesus Christ
25:51 got up.
25:54 Thank you, Lord, for being the Resurrection and the Life.
25:56 Thank you, God, that we once were blind but now we see, we
26:00 once we're lost but now we're found.
26:06 And oh, Lord, we look for that day we put on our robe and
26:08 tell the story.
26:10 But, Lord God, there's someone today who needs to
26:16 break the chains that Satan has on their life right now.
26:20 They need to get up out of their seat, they need to come
26:23 down this aisle, give me their hand, but Lord Jesus, give you
26:26 their heart.
26:26 They need to join this ministry, be a part of this
26:28 commandment-keeping, Jesus-loving body right here.
26:31 So, Lord, move, forgive us our sins.
26:37 Hide me behind your cross.
26:40 Lord, I speak life over somebody's life right now.
26:44 I speak life.
26:46 So, God, move them right now.
26:47 May we never deceived upon the state of the dead anymore.
26:51 May we never be deceived by Satan anymore.
26:52 May we fully understand that God, you took dust of the
26:55 ground, breath of life, we became living souls and when
26:57 we die the body will return to dust, the spirit will return
27:00 to You and the soul will cease to exist.
27:02 And then at your second coming the dead in Christ are going
27:05 to rise first.
27:07 Thank you, God.
