00:11 ♪ Oh yes, He's worthy ♪ ♪ Worthy of all ♪ 00:21 Praise be to God today. 00:24 If you have your Bibles, let me hear you say Amen. 00:26 All right, we're going to read from the Word today. 00:29 Hello, my name is Dr. Carlton Byrd 00:33 and we're here live from the Berean Seventh-day 00:35 Adventist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, home of Breath of 00:36 Life television ministries. 00:37 And we're excited today that you've tuned in with us as we 00:40 present the Word of God. 00:43 I'm excited about the Word of God. 00:45 Anybody else excited? 00:46 Let me hear you say Amen. 00:47 Come on, say Amen again. 00:49 Take your Bibles, hold them up with me, come on, 00:51 hold them up. 00:53 Say, if it's in the Word, it deserves 00:56 to be heard. 00:57 Come on, say it one more time. 01:01 If it's in the Word, it deserves to be heard. 01:03 I just believe we ought to know what we believe, know why 01:09 we believe it, and then know where it's found. 01:12 Do I have a witness in this place? 01:14 If you're going to preach the Word of God, you ought to 01:17 preach what thus saith the Lord. 01:19 Amen? 01:20 You ought to preach the unadulterated Word of God. 01:23 We're not up here to preach what we want. 01:26 We're up here to preach what God wants. 01:27 Do I have a witness in this place? 01:29 And with that in mind, let's go to the Word of God, read 01:31 that scripture from John 14:1-3. 01:36 John, the Gospel according to John, chapter 14, 01:42 verses 1, 2 and 3. 01:49 If you have it let me hear you say Amen. 01:51 Amen. 01:52 We are ready to read the word of God. 01:53 The Word of God says, "Let not your heart be" what? 01:56 "Troubled. 01:57 Ye believe in God, believe also in me. 01:59 In my Father's house," that should make 02:02 somebody get excited. 02:03 "In my Father's house, there are many mansions." That means 02:08 there's a mansion for you and a mansion for me. 02:10 Are you hearing what I'm saying? 02:12 "If it were not so, I would have told you." Jesus said, 02:14 "I go and prepare a place for you. 02:15 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, 02:17 and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may 02:25 be also." Hallelujah, somebody. 02:27 I just want to challenge you today with the subject 02:30 "Superman to the Rescue." Come by here, Good Lord, 02:37 come by here. 02:38 God, somebody needs you. 02:40 So come by here. 02:42 Fill us with your spirits, anoint us with your grace. 02:46 Give us articulation of speech, clarity of mind, and 02:50 give thy people receptivity of heart. 02:53 And Lord, when the appeal is made, I pray that men, women, 02:55 boys and girls will come and give their lives to thee. 02:58 In the name of Jesus we pray. 03:00 Let everyone say Amen. 03:01 And Amen. 03:03 When I was a little boy, perhaps you heard it as well, 03:07 faster than a speeding bullet. 03:11 More powerful than a locomotive. 03:15 Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. 03:21 Look, up in the sky! 03:25 It's a bird, it's a plane, no, it's Superman. 03:30 As a child, these words were etched in my mind every time I 03:34 would eagerly sit up and watch the Adventures of Superman. 03:39 Eyes glued to the television. 03:42 I watched how Superman would fight crooked businessmen 03:46 and politicians. 03:48 I would watch Superman take on injustices and take on 03:53 inequalities by fighting and standing for social justice. 03:58 Superman--he had x-ray vision. 04:01 He could see, you remember, through walls, through doors, 04:06 and through buildings. 04:08 And just in the nick of time. 04:11 Just right on time. 04:13 Superman would come and rescue that man, that woman, that 04:19 boy, that girl who was being tattered, torn and troubled. 04:24 When I was a little boy, Superman was my hero. 04:28 I even wanted to be Superman. 04:31 What do you mean, Pastor Byrd? 04:33 Well, I used to, saw in a store, maybe it was Wal-Mart 04:37 or K-mart back then, a Superman shirt. 04:40 I had to get my daddy to buy me a Superman shirt. 04:43 And so what I would do is, I'd put on my undershirt, then put 04:46 on my Superman shirt, and then put on my regular shirt. 04:50 You all hear what I'm saying. 04:50 And when the tough got going and rough, I would break out 04:55 of that over-shirt, and I would have Superman 04:59 on my chest. 05:02 Superman was my hero. 05:06 Superman was stronger than everybody. 05:09 Superman could do no wrong. 05:12 Superman was the man. 05:15 But I got a little older and I learned that Superman was 05:20 fictional, that Superman was fake, Superman was a good man, 05:29 but Superman wasn't real. 05:31 Superman was TV. 05:36 Oh, but God. 05:40 God, I learned, was for real. 05:43 God was not fictional. 05:46 God was not TV. 05:49 God was the real thing. 05:51 And so as I got a little older, I learned how to read. 05:54 I learned how to read the Word of God, and I began 05:59 in the beginning. 06:01 I began reading Genesis from the beginning, and I learned 06:04 Genesis 1:1-3, that in the beginning, in the 06:10 what, everybody? 06:11 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 06:15 And the earth was without form and void. 06:17 And darkness was upon the face of the deep. 06:19 And the spirits of God moved upon the face of the waters, 06:24 and God said, Let there be light. 06:28 And there was light." I learned that on day one, 06:32 God created light. 06:34 I learned that on day two, God created the firmament. 06:38 I learned that on day three, God created vegetation 06:41 and the seas. 06:42 I learned on day four that God created the sun, 06:46 the moon and the stars. 06:47 I learned on day five that God created the birds of the air 06:51 and the fish of the sea. 06:53 I learned on day six that God created animals or 06:57 mammals on the land. 06:59 But I also learned that on day six God created man. 07:03 I learned, Genesis 1:26, "God said, Let us make man in our 07:12 image, after our likeness." 07:15 And so from this text I learned that God is 07:18 three in one. 07:20 The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. 07:24 Three in one, working to bring about my salvation. 07:27 And so I learned, because God is three in one, I 07:30 learned that Jesus was God. 07:34 John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was 07:38 with God, and the Word was God." And then verse 14 says 07:42 that the Word became flesh. 07:47 I then learned Superman wasn't real, God was real, and I 07:51 learned that man, God's creation, had messed up. 07:55 That man had sinned. 07:58 I learned that we all are sinners, all of us have sinned 08:02 and come short of the glory of God. 08:05 If you say you have no sin, the truth of God 08:08 is not in you. 08:08 You're a liar. 08:10 But if you sin, you have need for a Savior. 08:16 Do I have a witness in this place? 08:18 Man was in distress. 08:21 Man was torn. 08:23 Man was tried. 08:25 Man was troubled. 08:27 Man had sin. 08:29 So God had a dilemma. 08:32 Either I excuse sin or I destroy all and start over. 08:38 God's solution? 08:41 To send Superman. 08:43 God's solution? 08:46 To send Jesus the Christ. 08:48 For God so loved the world that God gave God's only 08:52 begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not 08:56 perish, but have everlasting what, everybody? 09:00 Life. 09:01 For the wages of sin is death. 09:02 I deserve death. 09:03 You deserve death. 09:04 We deserve death. 09:05 But the gift of God is eternal life. 09:09 Hallelujah, somebody. 09:11 Through Jesus Christ our Lord. 09:14 I learned that Jesus was the real Superman because he was 09:19 wounded for my transgressions. 09:21 Bruised for my iniquities. 09:23 The chastisement of my peace was upon him. 09:27 But by his stripes I'm healed today, hallelujah. 09:32 I learned that there was no more a need for the Old 09:37 Testament sacrificial system. 09:39 Superman had come to my rescue. 09:43 "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sins of the 09:48 world." So I didn't have to go to anybody else to get 09:51 forgiveness for my sins. 09:53 I didn't have to go speak and confess to somebody else and 09:55 tell them all that I had done. 09:57 I learned from the Word of God that "if we confess our sins, 10:02 he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and 10:06 cleanse us from all unrighteousness." I learned 10:10 that there is no other name under heaven whereby we can be 10:13 saved, but save the name of Jesus. 10:21 And so it was, because of sin and men had messed up. 10:23 Jesus, the real Superman, had to come the first time. 10:26 He had to come the first timeú to save his people. 10:30 And so in his coming the first time, Matthew 1:21 says, "And 10:34 she shall bring forth a son. 10:37 Thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his 10:44 people from their" what, everybody? 10:47 Let's look at that text. 10:48 Go with me to the book of Matthew, chapter one, and 10:54 let's read that together. 10:56 Matthew 1:21, And she shall what? 11:09 Come on, she shall bring forth a what? 11:11 Thou shalt call his name what, everybody? 11:14 For he shall, what? 11:16 He shall what? 11:18 Save his people from their what? 11:23 Sin. 11:24 So, at Jesus' first coming to this earth, when he came as a 11:29 babe, he came to save his people from sin. 11:34 He came to save us from our evil walk. 11:37 He came to save us from our evil talk. 11:41 He came to save us from adultery. 11:43 He came to save us from lying. 11:45 He came to save us from stealing. 11:48 He came to save us from doubt. 11:49 He came to save us from depression. 11:51 The Bible says that he came to seek and to save 11:56 that which was lost. 11:59 That's why he came the first time. 12:01 He came to save his people. 12:03 And the Bible teaches, I learned, when I'm studying 12:06 about the real Superman, that the Bible teaches that he, 12:10 that she, that believes on the Lord Jesus Christ, 12:14 they shall be saved. 12:17 Do I have a witness in this place? 12:18 But I've learned also in my life that everybody doesn't 12:22 believe on Jesus. 12:25 Everybody doesn't believe he's a way-maker. 12:27 That he's a company-keeper. 12:30 That he's a wheel in the middle of a wheel. 12:33 Everybody doesn't believe he's a bridge over troubled waters, 12:38 that he's shelter in time of storm. 12:41 Everybody doesn't believe that he has the power to save. 12:45 And so as a result of everyone's unbelief, we have a 12:49 world full of mess, strife and confusion. 12:54 Understand that every day somebody's being 12:57 burglarized or victimized. 12:59 Every day we turn on the news, somebody is the victim of some 13:04 sort of crime. 13:06 Every day in our world, somebody is being 13:08 infected with HIV. 13:11 Every day we have children in our world who go 13:14 to bed hungry. 13:15 Every day there's trouble of some sort. 13:17 Tornado over here. 13:19 Hurricane over there. 13:21 Tsunamis over there. 13:23 Understand, every day there's murder here, fight over there, 13:29 crime there, death here, child hungry here. 13:33 When will it all end? 13:34 But let me tell you something today. 13:36 Hold on. 13:37 Because help is on the way. 13:39 Let me tell you today, hold on, because one day Superman 13:43 is going to come to our rescue. 13:46 Let not your heart be what? 13:48 Troubled. 13:49 Ye believe in God, believe also in me. 13:51 In my father's house are many mansions. 13:54 The first time Superman came, Jesus the Christ, he came to 13:58 save his people, he came to do what, everybody? 14:01 Save his people. 14:02 And the second time he comes, he's coming to get his people. 14:05 He's coming to do what? 14:06 Get. 14:07 Now, that's what the Christian life is all about. 14:10 That's why we pray. 14:12 That's why we sing. 14:13 That's why we study the Word of God. 14:15 That's why we preach the Word of God, because we are all 14:18 looking forward to Jesus' second coming. 14:23 This is what we're all looking for. 14:24 And eyes haven't seen, neither ears heard, the things that 14:29 God has prepared for them that love him. 14:33 So, okay, Superman's coming, Pastor. 14:36 We recognize his coming, you've made that clear. 14:38 The Word of God says that in John chapter 14. 14:40 But when will he come? 14:44 We know he's coming, but when will he come? 14:47 And Pastor, we don't want to hear your own words, we want 14:50 to hear from the Word of God. 14:52 When does the Word say that the real Superman is going to 14:57 come to my rescue? 14:58 Well, I'm glad you asked. 14:59 Go with me to the book of Matthew. 15:00 What book, everybody? 15:01 Let's get some Word. 15:02 Know what you believe, know why you believe it, and know 15:05 where it's found. 15:07 Let's go to Matthew 24:36. 15:13 Let's get some Word today. 15:21 The Gospel according to St. 15:23 Matthew, chapter 24, and verse 36. 15:29 The Word of God speaks clearly to us today. 15:31 It says, But of that, what? 15:33 Come on. 15:34 Of that day and hour knoweth no what? 15:36 Man. 15:36 No, not the angels of heaven, but my what? 15:39 Father only. 15:40 Let's stop right there. 15:41 So if anybody's walking around, talking about the real 15:43 Superman, Jesus Christ, is coming on a certain day, you 15:46 know that's a lie from the pits of hell. 15:49 Because the Word of God says, "But of that day and" what? 15:53 "hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my 15:57 Father only." Go to verse 37. 15:58 The word continues, "But as the days of Noah were, so also 16:03 the coming of the Son of Man be." For as in the days, verse 16:10 38, that was before the flood. 16:12 They were eating and what? 16:14 Marrying and giving in what? 16:17 Until the day that Noah entered into the what, 16:23 everybody? 16:24 Entered into the ark. 16:25 Verse 39, and knew not, until the flood came. 16:28 Took them all away. 16:29 So shall also the coming of the Son of Man be. 16:35 When the real Superman comes, Jesus Christ comes, the second 16:40 time, it's not going to be like you knew he was coming. 16:44 The Bible is clear that no one will know but the Father. 16:48 Are you hearing what I'm saying, everybody? 16:50 But the Bible lets us know that just around the time of 16:53 this coming, people are going to be doing any 16:55 and everything. 16:57 That if it feels good, do it. 17:00 People going to be doing whatever they want to do. 17:02 Let's get some more Word. 17:03 Go to verse 42. 17:05 So because of that, the Word of God, Jesus says, Matthew 17:07 24:42, the Word says, Watch therefore, for ye know what? 17:15 Not what hour your Lord doth what, everybody? 17:17 Come. 17:18 Verse 44: Therefore, be ye also what? 17:21 For in such an hour as ye think not, the 17:26 Son of Man cometh. 17:30 So we don't know when he's coming. 17:32 But what we do know is, he's coming soon. 17:34 Are you hearing what I'm saying, everybody? 17:36 We do know he's coming soon. 17:37 Well, Pastor, we don't know when he's coming, but we know 17:40 he's coming soon, so what are some of the signs surrounding 17:44 Jesus', the real Superman, his coming. 17:47 What are some of the signs? 17:47 Let's now go up in Matthew 24 and go to verse 1. 17:52 Matthew 24, we've got it straight from the Word of God, 17:55 straight from the Bible. 17:57 Have to be a Bible preacher. 17:58 Matthew 24:1, what are some of the signs of his coming? 18:05 The Word of God says in Matthew 24:1, and Jesus went 18:09 out and departed from the what, everybody? Temple. 18:12 And his disciples came to him to show him the buildings 18:16 of the temple. 18:16 Verse 2, And Jesus said unto them, See ye not 18:20 all these what? Things. 18:22 Verily I say until you, there shall not be left one here, 18:27 one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. 18:32 Verse 3, "And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the 18:34 disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, 18:36 when shall these things be? 18:40 and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of 18:44 the world?" Jesus responds, verse 4, "Jesus answered and 18:47 said until them, Take heed that no man deceive you." 18:54 Now, let me stop right there. 18:56 That's why it's so important for me to preach the Bible. 19:00 That's why it's so important to preach what thus 19:03 saith the Lord. 19:07 Not what you think not what I think, 19:09 but what God thinks and what God says. 19:10 Are you hearing what I'm saying? 19:12 Because if you're not careful, you can be deceived 19:15 on the Word of God. 19:17 If Satan can deceive Adam and Eve in the 19:21 Garden of Eden, if Satan can try to deceive even 19:25 Jesus, don't you know Satan will try to deceive 19:28 you and me. 19:29 Are you hearing what I'm saying? 19:30 Jesus says, take heed that no man deceive you. 19:34 Know what you believe, know why you believe it, and know 19:37 where it's found. 19:39 I find in my travels today that a lot of people claim 19:42 that they're followers of Jesus Christ but they don't 19:44 know what the Word of God says. 19:46 Verse 5: "For many shall come in my name, saying I am" 19:53 whom, everybody? Christ. 19:54 And shall deceive what? Many. 19:56 Verse 6: And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars. 20:01 We've got wars going on everywhere. 20:03 Are you hearing what I'm saying, everybody? 20:04 See that ye be not what? 20:05 Troubled. 20:07 For all of these things must come to pass. 20:11 But the end is not yet. 20:13 Let's keep on. 20:14 For nation shall rise against what? 20:15 Nation. 20:16 Kingdom against what? 20:17 Kingdom. 20:18 There shall be what? 20:19 Famines and pestilences and earthquakes in diverse places, 20:23 meaning all these natural calamities will happen in 20:27 diverse different places. 20:31 "All these are the beginning of sorrows. 20:35 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall 20:37 kill you, and ye shall be hated of all nations for my 20:40 namesake. 20:42 And then shall many be offended, shall betray one 20:44 another, and shall hate one another. 20:46 And many false prophets shall rise." Lord have mercy. 20:51 Many false prophets shall rise and deceive many. 20:57 And because iniquity, meaning sin, Lord have mercy, shall 21:01 abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 21:06 That's why I tell you all the time, don't keep your eyes on 21:09 me, but keep your eyes on Jesus. 21:10 Are you hearing what I'm saying? 21:12 But the Word says he, hallelujah, that shall endure 21:18 until the end, the same shall be what, everybody? 21:22 And this Gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached as a witness 21:27 into all the world, for a witness unto all nations, and 21:31 then shall the end what, everybody? Come. 21:35 Oh yes, he's coming back. 21:36 He's coming back the second time to get his people. 21:41 But let's go on some more. 21:42 Let's get some more Word. 21:43 Go with me to the book of Acts. 21:45 What book, everybody? 21:46 Let's get some more Word. 21:47 Take your Bibles. 21:48 Acts, chapter one, verse nine. 21:49 We know he's coming. 21:53 How will he come? 21:56 We know he's coming, we know the signs of his coming, but 21:59 how will he come? 22:04 Let's get some more Word. 22:05 The book of Acts, chapter one, and we're going to verse nine. 22:11 Know what you believe, know why you believe it, and know 22:14 where it's found. 22:15 Acts 1:9, the Word of God says, "And when he had spoken 22:20 these things, Jesus, having spoken to the disciples, while 22:22 they beheld, he was taken" where? Up. 22:26 And he was received in a cloud out of their what? 22:29 Sight. 22:30 Verse 10: And while they looked steadfastly toward 22:33 heaven, as he went up, the Bible says, behold, two men. 22:39 How many men, everybody? 22:40 Two men stood by them in white apparel. 22:44 Verse 11: Which also said, ye men of Galilee, why stand 22:50 ye gazing up into heaven? 22:53 Because this same Jesus, you do understand this same Jesus, 23:00 this same Jesus who locked the lion's jaw, this same Jesus 23:04 who provided air-conditioning in the fiery furnace, this 23:07 same Jesus who took two fish and five loaves of bread and 23:11 fed 5,000 men, women and their children, this same Jesus 23:16 which is taken up from you into heaven shall so 23:18 come in what? 23:20 Like manner as ye have seen him go into where? 23:23 Heaven. So you know what this teaches me? 23:25 The Word teaches me that when Jesus, the real Superman, 23:29 comes back, the Bible says that he will come 23:33 the same way he left. 23:34 If he left in a cloud, he's coming back in a cloud. 23:39 But there are some people who think that when Jesus comes 23:42 back, the real Superman comes back the second time, there 23:43 are some people who believe that Jesus' feet 23:47 will touch this earth. 23:49 But the Bible is very clear that the same way he left is 23:52 the same way he's coming what? Back. 23:55 Know what you believe, know why you believe it, and know 23:59 where it's found. 24:01 Jesus left in a cloud, he's coming back in a cloud, which 24:05 means then that Jesus' feet will not touch this earth 24:10 because sin cannot come in contact with the divine. 24:15 Are you hearing what I'm saying, everybody? 24:17 The feet of Jesus can't touch this sin and touch the earth 24:20 until this earth is cleaned up. 24:21 Are you hearing what I'm saying, everybody? 24:23 Let's go on. 24:24 Jesus' feet will never touch the earth because of sin. 24:28 Now, we know the signs of his coming, we know that he's 24:33 coming, we know how he will come. 24:37 But when he comes, who will see him? 24:41 Got with me to the book of Revelation. 24:43 What book, everybody? 24:43 Come on, let's get some Word. 24:44 Revelation, chapter 1, verse 7. 24:51 Revelation 1:7. 24:55 The Word of God says, Revelation 1:7, the Word says, 25:10 Behold he cometh with what? 25:11 Come on, behold he cometh with what? 25:13 Now, that's how the Bible does not contradict itself. 25:16 Because we just read in Acts what the Word of God says, he 25:23 left in a cloud, and that he's going to come back the same 25:26 way he left, so if he left in a cloud, he's coming back in a 25:29 what?
