Hebrews, Chapter 4.

Chapter 4 verse 1 reads,

Let us therefore fear,

what's going on here is,

he is admonishing the Christians

Fear, he wants--
he wants you to fear.

he wants them to fear.

Well, well the story of--
the story that comes to mind,

actually relating back to.

Israel and their journey

The children of
Israel had been led out

of Egyptian captivity
and they were journeying

to this Promised
Land, the Land of Canaan.

And we know that many
of them did not make it,

because they either
murmured were complaining,

or just rebelled
in the sight of God.

And so many of
them did not make it

into the Promised Land and,
Paul, is basically telling us

here that we too are on a
journey and we must be careful,

lest we are on that journey,

begin to murmur
as they murmured.

But that's just
little bit of background.

We really want
to get into verse 9

because verse 9, reads this,

it says "There
remaineth therefore

a rest to the
people of God." Now again--

Some of the
promise, there is a promise

and this rest once again
is speaking about that promise

that to come in the future.

It's talking about
the heavenly Canaan,

the Kingdom of Heaven.

We're all on the
journey from this world

into the Kingdom of Heaven.

And we don't want to murmur,

or complain, or
make the same mistakes

that the Israelites
made, that kept them

out of the
earthly promised land.

But there is something
interesting about this verse,

that's going to
give us an understanding

of the great conflict in
heaven and how it started,

because the word
here, rest, in verse 9

is the Greek word,
"Sabbatismos, Sabbatismos."

If you consider this,
the word "Sabbatismos"

it actually means rest.

And because we know that, God,

here is speaking
about the Kingdom of Heaven,

we understand that
heaven is God's rest

or we might call it His,

the Greek word His Sabbatismos.

Heaven is a land of rest.

It's a land of
peace, where we get to rest

from the trials of this
world, then the hardships.

to understand a little bit

about how heaven

Testament as a land of rest.

the land is at rest.

was set to be at rest

when the people
where obedient to God.

When there was
disobedience in the land

there was unrest in that land.

And so this is one of the
definitions of what it means

for a land to be at rest.

heaven was a land of rest,

because all the angels way back

in a distant past
were, in harmony with God.

submitted to the, will of God.

There's another
verse we wanna look at

its found in the Book of
Judges, Chapter 3 and verse 30.

"So Moab was subdued that
day under the hand of Israel

and the land had
rest for score years."

Okay, so once again we see here,

this concept of land having rest

and in this particular context,

because there was
no war in the land,

it is said that
the land was at rest.

So basically,
we're simply seeing here

that for land to be at
rest, it means that land had.

There was no war, there
were conflicts going on.

And all the
inhabitants of that land

were submitted
to the, will of God.

So as we take this
concept, this understanding

of what it means
for land to have a rest.

the New Testament

heaven is actually
called God's Sabbatismos.

We see that heaven
is a place of rest,

a place where there is no war.

Where everyone -- And where
there is perfect obedience.

Perfect
obedience to will of God.

So let's take this concept now.

that ruled the land.

But, we know, that
according to the, word of God,

there was a change,
because Book of Revelation,

Chapter 12, verse 7 says,
"And there was war in heaven.

Michael and His angels
fought against the dragon

and the dragon
fought and his angels.
00:09:32.52\00:09:34.51
So watch this, here
we have this environment

of perfect rest,
perfect peace, perfect harmony.
00:09:37.33\00:09:41.26
But then, and its
called God's what?

His Sabbatismos,
His place of rest,

His land of rest.

But then we now
have introduced this war,

this conflict
introduced by none other

then an angel named Satan.

Lucifer, at that time,

so what did, Lucifer break,

when he began this
rebellion in heaven.

The rest, The rest, The peace.

He brought unrest and
we might say civil unrest

discover now is, how is it all,

this conflict, how it began?

Eden the garden of God,

the sardius,
topaz, and the diamond,

the beryl, the onyx, and
the jasper, the sapphire,

the emerald, and
the carbuncle, and gold.

The workmanship of thy
tabrets and of thy pipes

was prepared in thee in
the day that thou wast created.

anointed cherub that covereth

is telling us about this angel

this covering cherub

and the word cherub simply means

an angel that was created.

And is important to
understand that this angel

was not created imperfectly,
but rather perfectly.

The angel is said
to be a covering cherub

and this is where our
study really takes a turn,

understand what, Lucifer,

articles of the sanctuary

what caused him to stumble.

at one of the
rooms in particular that

to build in this sanctuary.

was like a miniature model

make a mercy seat of pure gold,

two cubits and a half
shall be the length thereof,

and a cubit and a
half the breadth thereof.

there, I know I'm sorry but,

consider this mercy
seat, this mercy seat basically

represented the throne of God.

And that's why we,

coming boldly to
the throne of grace

that we may obtain
mercy in the time of need.

So this mercy seat again
was a symbol of God's throne.

is symbolic of God's throne.

resting upon something,

Facing each other, on
either side of the mercy seat,

Now get this, Lucifer, was
one of the angels that stood

His job in heaven was to protect

or defend the law of God

which is the
foundation of His throne.

was subjected to that law

sum it up in one word,

self-sacrificing love.
