Welcome to Battles of Faith! 00:00:15.07\00:00:16.58 We are your host Ivor and Atonte Myers. 00:00:16.62\00:00:19.48 Today we are going to continue our discussion on 00:00:19.52\00:00:22.87 how to study the Bible. 00:00:22.91\00:00:24.50 You know I was thinking, many times people just say, 00:00:24.53\00:00:27.16 oh yeah I've read the Bible, or I read the Bible. 00:00:27.19\00:00:29.78 But the Bible doesn't tell us to read, 00:00:29.82\00:00:31.93 it says to study the Bible. 00:00:31.96\00:00:34.42 2 Timothy 2:15 says, 00:00:34.46\00:00:37.39 To study the Bible you need to have foundational principles 00:00:45.30\00:00:49.28 to help you guide your way through so you don't make up 00:00:49.31\00:00:53.26 something that is not in the Bible. 00:00:53.29\00:00:54.71 So it is really important, and we are going through some 00:00:54.75\00:00:56.75 more principles today. 00:00:56.78\00:00:57.97 So again we are very excited about this program because 00:00:58.01\00:01:00.97 once again it's going to help you to be able to properly 00:01:01.00\00:01:03.93 divide the word of truth. 00:01:03.97\00:01:05.59 Amen, you know the Bible is a, well the God of the Bible 00:01:05.62\00:01:09.52 is a creative God. 00:01:09.56\00:01:11.58 You look around at this world and you see that 00:01:11.62\00:01:15.47 God is an artist. 00:01:15.50\00:01:16.77 When it comes to His word it's the same thing. 00:01:16.81\00:01:19.76 God is a creative God and He has so many beautiful principles 00:01:19.80\00:01:25.55 in His word that this book, once it opens up to you, it is far 00:01:25.58\00:01:31.30 from a dull book. 00:01:31.33\00:01:33.33 There are so many beautiful lessons in there, so many 00:01:33.36\00:01:36.48 ways in which the lessons are brought out. 00:01:36.52\00:01:38.77 We are going to be looking at some of those principles 00:01:38.80\00:01:40.93 today and we are going to be looking at three principles 00:01:40.97\00:01:43.07 in particular. 00:01:43.10\00:01:44.07 We are going to be looking at Bible names. 00:01:44.08\00:01:45.23 We are going to be looking at Bible numbers and we are also 00:01:45.26\00:01:48.32 going to look at a principle, I like to call, 00:01:48.36\00:01:50.35 the second man principle. 00:01:50.39\00:01:52.87 so we are going to see, first of all, dealing with Bible names. 00:01:52.91\00:01:57.56 The Bible when it uses names, first of all a name in the 00:01:57.60\00:02:06.45 Jewish context was very important because 00:02:06.49\00:02:08.18 names were attached to meanings and people were not just named 00:02:08.22\00:02:13.05 spuriously, they took time to consider the character 00:02:13.08\00:02:16.72 of the child. 00:02:16.75\00:02:18.27 Then they would name the child. 00:02:18.31\00:02:19.93 When they taste like eight days I think we read in history. 00:02:19.97\00:02:22.90 They take eight days or a week to see what the child acted like 00:02:22.94\00:02:25.84 and then they name the child. Ivor: right! 00:02:25.88\00:02:27.52 There are some names in the Bible, some names given to 00:02:27.55\00:02:31.04 people and you wonder why did their parents named them that? 00:02:31.08\00:02:34.08 But we do not have the answer for that. 00:02:34.11\00:02:35.98 But we do know that Bible names carry significance when 00:02:36.02\00:02:40.45 attempting to understand stories. 00:02:40.49\00:02:43.77 They that's a much more to the story and we are going 00:02:43.80\00:02:46.92 to begin by looking at the highest name of all, Jesus. 00:02:46.96\00:02:50.04 Matthew 1:21, the Bible says that His name was 00:02:50.08\00:02:55.45 to be called Jesus because He would save His people 00:02:55.48\00:02:58.66 from their sins. Atonte: right! 00:02:58.69\00:03:01.18 The name Jesus means, Savior. 00:03:01.22\00:03:04.05 In particular Savior from sin. 00:03:04.09\00:03:06.86 So as we understand that name, we say okay, 00:03:06.89\00:03:10.25 that is why he was to be called Jesus. 00:03:10.29\00:03:12.07 It wasn't just a nice sounding name, it was because it carried 00:03:12.10\00:03:15.30 a meaning to it, He shall save His people from their sins. 00:03:15.34\00:03:19.32 If you look at verse 23 of the same chapter, it says that 00:03:19.36\00:03:23.31 His name was also to be called Emanuel. 00:03:23.34\00:03:25.97 It means God with us. Ivor: God with us. 00:03:26.00\00:03:28.94 That very name reveals who Jesus Christ was. 00:03:28.97\00:03:32.71 God with us, God manifested in the flesh. 00:03:32.75\00:03:36.42 So we see these names and we say okay, I'm understanding 00:03:36.45\00:03:39.68 these names reveal to us the important truth of who Jesus is. 00:03:39.71\00:03:42.86 God with us, and what His work was to be, 00:03:42.90\00:03:45.49 saving us from our sins. 00:03:45.53\00:03:48.16 I just thought a beautiful thought, when you said God 00:03:48.20\00:03:52.16 with us, it's like God couldn't be with us any other way 00:03:52.20\00:03:56.29 because we are sinful man. 00:03:56.32\00:03:57.69 He had to create a body for Himself, to fill that body 00:03:57.73\00:04:01.47 to dwell and be with us. 00:04:01.50\00:04:03.41 It is a very loving thing to do, because He cared 00:04:03.44\00:04:07.08 about us so much. Ivor: that's right! 00:04:07.12\00:04:08.57 For God so loved the world that He gave His Son. 00:04:08.60\00:04:11.02 In other words in giving His Son He was giving Himself. 00:04:11.05\00:04:14.37 Just that name Emanuel, is a gift of love to us. 00:04:14.41\00:04:20.38 So we see the importance of understanding Bible names. 00:04:20.41\00:04:23.73 I want to look at a couple more names here. 00:04:23.76\00:04:25.01 The name Israel for example. 00:04:25.04\00:04:27.04 Israel, which was the name that was given to Jacob after he 00:04:27.08\00:04:34.95 wrestled with God. 00:04:34.98\00:04:36.11 The name Israel means, overcomer with God, one who has wrestled 00:04:36.14\00:04:41.84 with God and overcome. 00:04:41.87\00:04:43.89 So we see in that context understanding the name Israel 00:04:43.92\00:04:48.28 in the New Testament, where God describes His church 00:04:48.32\00:04:53.93 as Israel, we understand that Israel composes those who 00:04:53.97\00:04:59.07 have wrestled with God and overcome. 00:04:59.10\00:05:01.59 Those who have overcome the world. 00:05:01.62\00:05:04.04 They are made of both Jews and Gentiles, because remember 00:05:04.07\00:05:08.10 Jacob was not born Israel. 00:05:08.13\00:05:11.95 He was considered the first Israelite, but yet he 00:05:11.98\00:05:14.98 wasn't born Israel, he was born Jacob. 00:05:15.01\00:05:17.53 the word Jacob means deceiver, or Surplanter. 00:05:17.57\00:05:22.05 So he wrestled with God and he overcame, God changed his name. 00:05:22.08\00:05:26.00 That's right, that is the story with each and everyone of us. 00:05:26.03\00:05:29.92 We are all like a Jacob, as it were, and God calls us to 00:05:29.96\00:05:34.33 wrestle with Him and in overcoming He changes our names. 00:05:34.36\00:05:38.67 Symbolically speaking to Israel, we become part of the Israel 00:05:38.70\00:05:43.05 of God, it doesn't matter where I was born, who I was born at 00:05:43.09\00:05:47.56 all that matters is that I have wrestled with God and now 00:05:47.60\00:05:52.04 He has changed my name, or my character. 00:05:52.07\00:05:54.52 Atonte, that is right, He is not a respecter of person's. 00:05:54.56\00:05:56.68 Ivor: that's right! 00:05:56.72\00:05:57.69 We can look at the name Barabbas and that is an interesting name. 00:05:57.70\00:06:01.34 Barabbas, reading the story of Jesus' crucifixion 00:06:01.38\00:06:06.52 there is a particular part in this episode where there is 00:06:06.55\00:06:14.87 brought out a criminal and the Jews are called to ask who would 00:06:14.91\00:06:20.39 you rather have, Jesus or Barabbas? 00:06:20.43\00:06:24.56 And they chose Barabbas. Ivor: they chose Barabbas. 00:06:24.60\00:06:27.42 If you think about this, the name Barabbas, bar means son of 00:06:27.45\00:06:32.47 an Abba, means father. 00:06:32.51\00:06:34.73 So here you have two people standing before the Jews. 00:06:34.77\00:06:38.67 The Son of the Father, and the son of the father. 00:06:38.71\00:06:42.54 They are called to make a choice make a decision about which 00:06:42.57\00:06:46.57 "son of the father" they will follow. 00:06:46.60\00:06:49.31 You see, I think about this in the context of last day events. 00:06:49.34\00:06:54.07 When the antichrist comes. 00:06:54.11\00:06:57.30 His impersonation of Jesus Christ, or rather the Devils 00:06:57.34\00:07:01.38 impersonation of Jesus Christ will be so powerful that many 00:07:01.42\00:07:05.92 will be deceived into thinking then he is the Son of the Father 00:07:05.96\00:07:10.42 You see in that story to understand the name Barabbas 00:07:10.46\00:07:13.45 opens up great meaning to the story, it is not just some guy 00:07:13.48\00:07:18.26 they called out, you want Jesus or Barabbas? 00:07:18.30\00:07:20.52 We understand they were making a choice between the Son of the 00:07:20.55\00:07:23.90 Father and the son of the father. 00:07:23.93\00:07:25.95 In the last days the counterfeit will be so close to the genuine, 00:07:25.98\00:07:30.39 that unless we are studying our Bibles, 00:07:30.42\00:07:33.85 unless we are guided by the Spirit of God, 00:07:33.89\00:07:37.25 we will be deceived by the counterfeit bar-aba, 00:07:37.28\00:07:41.48 the son of the father. 00:07:41.52\00:07:42.84 Atonte: I think the most important thing is being guided 00:07:42.88\00:07:45.16 by the Spirit, because the Jewish people at that time knew 00:07:45.20\00:07:47.44 when Jesus, a Savior, was supposed to come. 00:07:47.48\00:07:50.76 It wasn't that they didn't know the word, they knew someone 00:07:50.79\00:07:54.88 was supposed to come, but because the Spirit... 00:07:54.92\00:07:57.28 they weren't accepting what the Spirit was trying to tell 00:07:58.42\00:08:01.57 them, hey this is the Savior. 00:08:01.60\00:08:03.92 They rejected Him and the same thing for us. 00:08:03.96\00:08:06.59 We can know that there is an antichrist that is going to come 00:08:06.62\00:08:09.40 and there will be a situation, but if we don't have the Spirit 00:08:09.44\00:08:12.18 of God with us, we will make the wrong decision as well. 00:08:12.22\00:08:14.05 We don't want to do that. Ivor: exactly! 00:08:14.08\00:08:16.37 Again this is why, and I have said it repeatedly, 00:08:16.41\00:08:19.59 the enemy of souls does not wants us to be familiar 00:08:19.63\00:08:22.77 with the Word of God. 00:08:22.81\00:08:24.74 With the prophecies of God, because of a misunderstanding 00:08:24.78\00:08:28.10 of the prophecies of God, that when Jesus came the first time 00:08:28.13\00:08:31.42 they could not recognize Him as the Savior. 00:08:31.45\00:08:34.53 I want to take a look at a couple more names than we are 00:08:34.56\00:08:39.35 going to move into Bible numbers. 00:08:39.38\00:08:40.41 Again I am just showing you that as you read a story 00:08:40.44\00:08:43.36 it would be good to understand, try to get an understanding 00:08:43.39\00:08:47.70 of what the name is. 00:08:47.74\00:08:48.75 You can do that through a concordance or some other means 00:08:48.78\00:08:51.85 Understand what the name means. 00:08:51.88\00:08:53.38 Nine times out of 10, and that name is going to add 00:08:53.41\00:08:57.26 significance to the story. 00:08:57.30\00:08:59.46 Well having a concordance is the beginning to allowing your 00:08:59.49\00:09:03.70 Bible study to go deeper. Ivor: that is right. 00:09:03.74\00:09:05.87 Because it gives you original meanings of a word. 00:09:05.91\00:09:08.01 Sometimes we see a word in the Bible and we take it that it 00:09:08.04\00:09:10.98 means, or understand what it means in English. 00:09:11.01\00:09:12.88 In the Hebrew or the Greek it could mean something else. 00:09:12.91\00:09:15.88 It could have a deeper significance. 00:09:15.92\00:09:18.23 Let's look at the name, Judah. 00:09:18.26\00:09:20.96 The name Judah actually means praise. 00:09:21.00\00:09:24.80 That is significant when you bring that over, it is a Hebrew 00:09:24.83\00:09:28.20 name, and when you bring it over into the Greek, 00:09:28.24\00:09:30.17 the word is translated Judas. 00:09:30.21\00:09:33.05 so the word Judas, means praise. 00:09:33.09\00:09:35.86 When you think about this Atonte Judas, while pretending to 00:09:35.89\00:09:41.13 do what? Praise Jesus Christ, actually betrayed Him. 00:09:41.16\00:09:46.25 Now that's not to say that we don't want to praise God. 00:09:46.29\00:09:51.31 We want you to simply see the significance where Jesus says 00:09:51.34\00:09:55.92 that a close friend has betrayed Me, one who professed to be 00:09:55.95\00:10:00.49 my brother, companion has betrayed Me. 00:10:00.53\00:10:03.41 We see the significance of Judas not living up to his namesake. 00:10:03.45\00:10:07.87 Which was to praise, in particular, to praise God. 00:10:07.90\00:10:12.36 So Bible names again reveal to us this understanding or opens 00:10:12.39\00:10:17.40 up to us little gems that add a little piece to the story. 00:10:17.43\00:10:22.80 I'm going to give you two more examples. 00:10:22.84\00:10:23.92 In the book of Revelation there are seven churches that are 00:10:23.96\00:10:27.67 described, and the seven churches have seven names. 00:10:27.71\00:10:31.35 I just want to talk about two names. 00:10:31.39\00:10:32.95 One of the church's names is name Pergamos. 00:10:32.99\00:10:36.54 The word Pergamos is symbolic or actually means exultation 00:10:36.57\00:10:41.55 and marriage, Perga and gamos. 00:10:41.58\00:10:44.42 When you bring the word together exultation through marriage. 00:10:44.45\00:10:48.97 This church represents the third this is the third church rather 00:10:49.01\00:10:53.49 in the line of seven and it represents the period of time 00:10:53.53\00:10:57.71 where the Church of God was exalted through marriage 00:10:57.74\00:11:02.11 but not to Jesus Christ, rather to the state. 00:11:02.15\00:11:05.68 In other words, it represented a period of time in which 00:11:05.72\00:11:09.36 the church instead of reaching it's hand out in marriage 00:11:09.40\00:11:13.01 to Christ, began to take the hand of the state. 00:11:13.04\00:11:16.03 Roman in particular, government and was exalted to a high place. 00:11:16.07\00:11:21.44 This is a period of time where the church eventually begins 00:11:21.48\00:11:26.06 to persecute, because she now had the power of the state 00:11:26.09\00:11:30.64 by her side. 00:11:30.68\00:11:31.81 Before she was the persecuted, in fact the church before her 00:11:31.85\00:11:36.72 the name of the church is Smyrna 00:11:36.76\00:11:38.56 Representing those who are persecuted. 00:11:38.59\00:11:40.67 Smyr and mur, or Smyrna being synonymous, Mur was an ointment 00:11:40.70\00:11:46.94 used, or an herb used to embalm the dead. 00:11:46.97\00:11:49.10 It represented suffering. 00:11:49.14\00:11:50.52 You had the Church suffering and then you had its stage 00:11:50.56\00:11:53.57 of exultation and then you find that the church in turn began 00:11:53.60\00:11:58.52 persecute as it once had been persecuted. 00:11:58.55\00:12:01.01 There is another church, the last church called Laodicea. 00:12:01.04\00:12:04.65 the word Laodicea means the people of the judgment. 00:12:04.69\00:12:08.70 So we can understand that this Laodicean Church will represent 00:12:08.73\00:12:12.54 a judgment people. 00:12:12.58\00:12:14.08 Again just simply understand the names. 00:12:14.12\00:12:16.81 That's the last church on earth before Jesus Christ comes. 00:12:16.84\00:12:18.85 The last church right before Jesus comes. 00:12:19.88\00:12:21.14 Understanding these names help us to get a larger picture of 00:12:21.18\00:12:25.57 what the whole story may be talking about. 00:12:25.60\00:12:28.64 So that his Bible names and I want to encourage you to 00:12:28.68\00:12:31.53 really begin to look into these names. 00:12:31.57\00:12:33.64 In fact, there is one more thing I'd like to share. 00:12:33.67\00:12:36.03 It was the author of the Heidelberg catechism 00:12:37.19\00:12:40.39 that is credited as being the first one to find this 00:12:40.42\00:12:45.88 incredible prophecy in the genealogy recorded in 00:12:45.92\00:12:51.34 Genesis Chapter 5. 00:12:51.38\00:12:52.73 Atonte: this is awesome. 00:12:52.76\00:12:54.14 If you look in Genesis chapter 5 you will see a list of names 00:12:54.17\00:12:57.27 and Atonte I'm going to ask if you would just 00:12:57.30\00:12:59.24 read those names. 00:12:59.27\00:13:00.24 There is the first man on earth obviously that was Adam. 00:13:00.26\00:13:04.95 And then Seth, Enos, Cainan, Mahalaleel, Jared, Enoch 00:13:04.99\00:13:09.65 Methuselah, Lamech, and Noah. 00:13:09.68\00:13:11.67 These are the descendents of Adam, laid out in order. 00:13:11.70\00:13:17.85 As you look at the meanings of these names, and in some 00:13:17.89\00:13:24.00 concordances these names will actually vary. 00:13:24.03\00:13:25.95 These definitions were actually gathered from Lexicons and 00:13:25.98\00:13:30.95 other places but the general meaning of these names are 00:13:30.99\00:13:35.32 given so that they actually reveal the plan of salvation 00:13:35.35\00:13:39.65 in these names. 00:13:39.69\00:13:41.01 I'm going to ask Atonte to read it again, but this time she is 00:13:41.04\00:13:45.18 going to read the name and then what it means. 00:13:45.21\00:13:49.24 Adam means the man. Seth, placed or appointed. 00:13:49.28\00:13:53.76 Enos, wretched fallen man. Cainan, lamenting. 00:13:53.80\00:13:58.21 Mahalaleel, the blessed God. Jared, shall descend 00:13:58.24\00:14:02.39 or come down. Enoch, teaching, dedicated, 00:14:02.42\00:14:06.18 disciplined, obedient unto death Methuselah his death shall bring 00:14:06.21\00:14:11.28 Lamech, power, Noah, rest and comfort. 00:14:11.32\00:14:15.84 Now I am going to ask you to just read that again 00:14:15.88\00:14:18.16 in the sentence without the names. 00:14:18.20\00:14:19.34 Atonte: Man placed or appointed wretched fallen man lamenting 00:14:19.37\00:14:24.72 the blessed God shall descend or come down, teaching 00:14:24.75\00:14:28.93 dedicated, disciplined, obedient unto death. 00:14:28.96\00:14:32.40 His death shall bring power, rest and comfort. 00:14:32.44\00:14:35.81 That is beautiful, the Gospel message just tied in. 00:14:35.85\00:14:39.34 Just as we begin to study the word of God 00:14:39.37\00:14:41.02 and as the Lord to open up our eyes so that we can see 00:14:41.05\00:14:44.21 that which is under the surface that we find so many beautiful 00:14:44.25\00:14:47.63 Gems and this is an example of one of those gems. 00:14:47.67\00:14:51.99 God wants this book to be your entertainment. 00:14:52.03\00:14:56.28 Not that there is not other fun things to do, but He wants 00:14:56.32\00:15:00.03 us to really enjoy reading and studying His word. 00:15:00.06\00:15:03.05 That is why He has put gems like this. 00:15:03.09\00:15:04.89 I look at the bottom part of the names where it says, 00:15:04.93\00:15:08.82 His death shall bring power, rest and comfort. 00:15:08.86\00:15:11.54 That is what we want. We need power to overcome sin. 00:15:11.58\00:15:15.11 We need rest and comfort as we may go through hard times 00:15:15.14\00:15:18.60 and trials on this earth, but what a promise, what a blessing 00:15:18.63\00:15:22.45 what an awesome God we serve. 00:15:22.48\00:15:24.36 To encode this into His word. 00:15:24.39\00:15:26.20 Now we are going to go quickly over to Bible numbers. 00:15:26.24\00:15:30.77 We are not going to have time to really get into this, but we're 00:15:30.80\00:15:35.12 going to skim through it and get into the second man principle. 00:15:35.16\00:15:39.44 Bible numbers are often significant, not all numbers 00:15:39.47\00:15:43.22 but some numbers, as you read through the Bible, you will see 00:15:43.26\00:15:46.37 that they are mentioned time and time again. 00:15:46.40\00:15:48.16 They are mentioned in relation to the very same thing. 00:15:48.20\00:15:51.55 You begin to realize that these numbers have significance. 00:15:51.59\00:15:54.89 When you bring these meanings all the way over to the book 00:15:54.92\00:15:58.50 of Revelation, you now begin to understand, the number four 00:15:58.53\00:16:02.26 is symbolic, or the number seven is symbolic of A, B, C or D, 00:16:02.30\00:16:05.99 whatever that might be. 00:16:06.03\00:16:07.00 We want to take a look at some of these numbers. 00:16:07.03\00:16:09.46 We are going to start with the number three. 00:16:09.50\00:16:11.86 The number three is symbolic of a dividing line, as it were, 00:16:11.90\00:16:17.61 between life and death. 00:16:17.64\00:16:19.11 When you look at the number three you will find over and 00:16:19.15\00:16:23.30 over again in the Scripture, that three surrounds 00:16:23.34\00:16:28.76 life and death, as you know Jesus was resurrected 00:16:28.80\00:16:34.19 on the third day. 00:16:34.22\00:16:35.90 If you go back to the old Testament, you think of Jonah, 00:16:35.93\00:16:40.56 being in the belly of the whale for three days. 00:16:40.59\00:16:43.54 You think about the Butler and the Baker who both had dreams 00:16:43.57\00:16:49.53 each having to do with three days. 00:16:49.56\00:16:51.51 One died, the other had a dream didn't understand what the 00:16:51.54\00:16:56.72 dream meant, but basically in the end, after three days they 00:16:56.75\00:17:01.90 were told that one would die and one would live. 00:17:01.93\00:17:05.71 You look at the number three continually throughout the 00:17:05.75\00:17:09.23 Scriptures and you will find its manifestations. 00:17:09.26\00:17:11.84 Deena, who was raped made a covenant with the man that 00:17:11.88\00:17:16.17 raped her and some of the sons of Israel said you get 00:17:16.20\00:17:20.46 circumcised and that will be the covenant that we 00:17:20.50\00:17:22.92 will live in peace. 00:17:22.96\00:17:24.02 The Bible says that after the third day, two of these sons 00:17:24.05\00:17:27.58 went upon the whole city when the men were sore 00:17:27.61\00:17:29.52 and slew them all. 00:17:29.56\00:17:31.63 You find that number three is symbolic of life and death. 00:17:31.66\00:17:36.59 As you look through the Scripture you begin to see 00:17:36.63\00:17:39.93 that yes, this number is consistent everywhere 00:17:39.97\00:17:43.12 we look at it. 00:17:43.16\00:17:44.13 I'm just throwing out a few of them, but you go all the way 00:17:44.14\00:17:46.75 through the Scripture looking at that number 3, and you will 00:17:46.78\00:17:49.59 see this division between life and death. 00:17:49.63\00:17:51.91 There is the number four. The number four is symbolic 00:17:51.95\00:17:56.42 of world wideness. 00:17:56.45\00:17:58.70 You think about the four directions, North, South, East 00:17:58.74\00:18:02.35 and West, represents world wide. 00:18:02.38\00:18:05.80 You think about, in Revelation Chapter 7, there are four 00:18:05.84\00:18:09.96 Angels seen standing on the four corners of the Earth. 00:18:10.00\00:18:14.09 They are holding back the four winds of the earth. 00:18:14.12\00:18:17.91 One angel says, do not let the winds go till we have sealed 00:18:17.95\00:18:22.87 the servants of our God in their foreheads. 00:18:22.90\00:18:25.15 this lets us know that the sealing is not a sealing that 00:18:25.19\00:18:31.38 happens in one local place. 00:18:31.42\00:18:33.66 It is a worldwide sealing that takes place. 00:18:33.70\00:18:37.37 So there is the number four. 00:18:37.41\00:18:39.27 You've got the number seven, which represents a complete 00:18:39.30\00:18:42.22 cycle, you have the seven days of the week. 00:18:42.26\00:18:43.23 It represents a complete cycle of time so that when we get 00:18:43.24\00:18:46.30 to the book of Revelation and we see seven churches, seven seals, 00:18:46.33\00:18:49.15 seven plagues, we know that these represents seven, 00:18:49.19\00:18:52.74 or rather a cycle of time. 00:18:52.77\00:18:55.30 we have to figure out when the time begins and when it ends. 00:18:55.34\00:18:58.88 These numbers of seven represent a complete, or something 00:18:58.92\00:19:02.43 happening over a complete cycle of time. 00:19:02.46\00:19:05.21 We can go on with the number eight representing newness 00:19:05.25\00:19:09.90 of life, baptism. 00:19:09.93\00:19:11.47 There were eight who made it through the flood. 00:19:11.50\00:19:14.54 Noah's flood, eight on the ark. 00:19:14.58\00:19:16.53 representing baptism or newness of life. 00:19:16.57\00:19:19.32 There is the number 12, which represents service. 00:19:19.35\00:19:21.63 There were 12 disciples called to serve Jesus. 00:19:21.66\00:19:23.87 There were 12 tribes called to go into the wilderness 00:19:23.90\00:19:26.76 and serve God. 00:19:26.80\00:19:27.96 In the New Testament, or in the book of Revelation, you have the 00:19:28.00\00:19:31.53 144,000 who serve God day and night in the temple. 00:19:31.57\00:19:35.77 Twelve times twelve representing the people who are called 00:19:35.81\00:19:40.39 to serve God. 00:19:40.42\00:19:42.36 So we can go through these numbers and we see these 00:19:42.39\00:19:45.10 numbers are significant in the Bible and helped 00:19:45.13\00:19:47.80 enrich our study. 00:19:47.84\00:19:49.29 Now we are going to look at the second man principle. 00:19:49.32\00:19:51.91 This happens to be my favorite. 00:19:51.95\00:19:54.10 In the Bible, I believe it is 1 Corinthians 15:45- 47 00:19:54.13\00:20:00.10 The Bible lays out this principle here that Jesus Christ 00:20:21.07\00:20:25.86 is the second man. 00:20:25.90\00:20:27.72 Now what does that mean? 00:20:27.75\00:20:29.01 That means, and please listen carefully, that means that 00:20:29.04\00:20:32.23 Jesus Christ is the second, Atonte. 00:20:32.26\00:20:35.40 He is the second Ivor, and He is the second Bill out there. 00:20:35.44\00:20:40.52 The second Bob, who ever you are, He is the second you 00:20:40.55\00:20:44.82 in this context, when you decide to die to self and are 00:20:44.86\00:20:49.10 born-again, as Paul said, I am crucified with Christ, 00:20:49.13\00:20:53.62 nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ that liveth in me. 00:20:53.66\00:20:58.75 Christ becomes the second person His mind is given to us. 00:20:58.78\00:21:02.71 That does not mean we are Jesus, simply means that Jesus is 00:21:02.75\00:21:06.56 in us living out His life in and through you as He becomes 00:21:06.59\00:21:10.37 the second man. 00:21:10.40\00:21:11.59 We find this principle all throughout the Old Testament. 00:21:11.63\00:21:15.87 Christ, not only was He the second Man for you and I, 00:21:15.91\00:21:20.09 He was the second man for many of the Old Testament prophets 00:21:20.12\00:21:24.52 and saints. 00:21:24.56\00:21:25.54 You think about Adam. 00:21:25.58\00:21:26.71 So where Adam failed, the first time, Jesus came 00:21:26.74\00:21:30.69 and was triumphant. 00:21:30.72\00:21:31.96 Adam's first temptation dealt with appetite. 00:21:32.00\00:21:34.84 Jesus comes, and as the second Adam, He overcomes where the 00:21:34.88\00:21:40.00 first Adam failed. 00:21:40.04\00:21:41.34 Atonte: in the wilderness Win Satan tempted Him. 00:21:41.37\00:21:42.90 Interestingly enough, Adam, in order to get his wife, 00:21:42.94\00:21:46.94 Adam was put to sleep and a rib was taken from his side. 00:21:46.98\00:21:51.40 In like manner, Jesus Christ has a bride, and that bride 00:21:51.43\00:21:55.19 is the Church. 00:21:55.22\00:21:56.73 Jesus Christ was put to sleep, a Roman soldier came 00:21:56.77\00:22:00.63 pierced His side, and the Bible says, came forth out there 00:22:00.66\00:22:05.13 blood and water. 00:22:05.17\00:22:06.21 It is from this blood and water, symbolically speaking, that the 00:22:06.24\00:22:10.34 bride of Christ came forth. The Church of Christ came forth. 00:22:10.38\00:22:14.45 The New Testament church, so we see that Christ is 00:22:14.48\00:22:17.83 the second Adam. 00:22:17.87\00:22:19.51 Christ was also the second Abel. 00:22:19.54\00:22:22.21 Remember Abel was killed by his own brother. 00:22:22.25\00:22:25.54 So Jesus, when He came, He was put to death by His own brethren 00:22:25.58\00:22:31.92 He's the second Enoch who walked with God. 00:22:31.96\00:22:35.40 The Bible describes Enoch as walking with God. 00:22:35.43\00:22:37.76 Christ was not translated as was Enoch, in other words 00:22:37.80\00:22:41.43 Christ died, Enoch did not die, but he is the second Enoch 00:22:41.46\00:22:44.75 in the sense that he walked with God. 00:22:44.78\00:22:47.85 He's the second Joseph, Or a 2nd Abraham, the Bible says Abraham 00:22:47.89\00:22:53.95 was called out, or were sent out to a strange land. 00:22:53.99\00:22:56.56 So Christ left his heavenly home and was sent to a strange land. 00:22:56.59\00:23:02.92 This planet that was full of sin and corruption. 00:23:02.96\00:23:06.68 Abraham was a Pilgrim, Christ was a Pilgrim. 00:23:06.72\00:23:10.37 He's a second Noah, how do you think he's the second Noah? 00:23:10.41\00:23:14.96 I don't know. 00:23:15.00\00:23:17.00 I put you on the spot, Christ is the second Noah in that he 00:23:17.03\00:23:21.71 as Noah built an ark, his mission was to save people from 00:23:21.75\00:23:26.39 the old world, to the new. 00:23:26.42\00:23:27.46 So Christ, in heaven right now, is ministering on our behalf 00:23:27.49\00:23:31.05 inviting us up into heaven because there is another flood 00:23:31.09\00:23:34.58 coming, but it is not a flood of water, it is a flood of fire. 00:23:34.62\00:23:39.78 You see He is the second Noah. 00:23:39.82\00:23:42.43 Christ is the second Isaac, Isaac when his father took him 00:23:42.47\00:23:47.24 to be sacrificed, he did not wrestle, he willingly laid 00:23:47.27\00:23:51.97 himself down, Christ willingly laid His life down on our behalf 00:23:52.00\00:23:58.22 He's a second Joseph who was sold into slavery 00:23:58.26\00:24:00.91 by his brothers, betrayed by his brothers and went down into 00:24:00.94\00:24:04.65 Egypt, his Brothers ended up having to come back to him after 00:24:04.69\00:24:08.82 they betrayed him to be saved, as it were, from the drought. 00:24:08.85\00:24:14.09 So Christ betrayed by humanity that has gone into heaven and we 00:24:14.12\00:24:18.72 must come to Him in time of drought and say Lord sorry for 00:24:18.75\00:24:23.32 what we did, please spare us. 00:24:23.35\00:24:25.82 I think about Christ being the second Sampson. 00:24:25.85\00:24:29.21 this is one of my favorites Atonte. 00:24:29.25\00:24:30.89 let me say that Christ was the second Moses. 00:24:30.92\00:24:34.16 He was in danger when he was born. 00:24:34.19\00:24:36.46 As Pharaoh tried to kill Moses and all the children at age two 00:24:36.49\00:24:42.88 so there was a decree that went out with Christ for the 00:24:42.92\00:24:45.23 same thing under the age of two. 00:24:45.27\00:24:46.77 Moses went out into the wilderness 40 years to prepare 00:24:46.81\00:24:52.30 to lead God's people. 00:24:52.33\00:24:53.74 So Christ, before He began His Ministry, 40 days in the 00:24:53.77\00:24:57.66 wilderness to lead His people, Moses lead his people 00:24:57.69\00:25:01.55 across the Red Sea. 00:25:01.58\00:25:03.03 He opened up that Red Sea and let His people through. 00:25:03.06\00:25:05.75 Jesus Christ will open up the sky and lead His people from 00:25:05.78\00:25:09.51 this earth over to the other side. 00:25:09.54\00:25:11.34 So He is the second Moses, He is the second Sampson. 00:25:11.37\00:25:15.20 Sampson was betrayed by the woman he loved. 00:25:15.23\00:25:19.39 So Christ was betrayed by the woman, the church that He loved. 00:25:19.42\00:25:25.17 The Bible says that Sampson had his eyes put out. 00:25:25.21\00:25:27.94 Jesus Christ was blindfolded as they beat him and 00:25:27.98\00:25:30.68 made sport of Him. 00:25:30.71\00:25:32.06 The Bible says that Sampson, let me say that Jesus Christ 00:25:32.10\00:25:35.48 is not the second Samson in failure, Jesus Christ overcame 00:25:35.51\00:25:38.85 where Sampson failed. 00:25:38.89\00:25:40.75 you see Sampson was brought between two pillars in the 00:25:40.79\00:25:46.48 temple of Dagon and the Bible says that when he died he 00:25:46.51\00:25:52.14 put his hands on those pillars, or before he died, he put his 00:25:52.17\00:25:55.20 hands on those pillars and the Bible says, it actually says in 00:25:55.23\00:25:58.27 verse 30 in chapter 16 of judges it says he bowed his head 00:25:58.30\00:26:02.21 and pushed, and when he pushed there was a great earthquake 00:26:02.25\00:26:06.13 as it were, not an earthquake, the building fell and those that 00:26:06.17\00:26:10.02 he killed in his death were more than those whom he had 00:26:10.05\00:26:14.08 slain in his life. 00:26:14.12\00:26:15.78 The same thing with Jesus when He was on the cross and bowed 00:26:15.81\00:26:20.42 His head and gave up His life. Alanzo: gave up His life. 00:26:20.46\00:26:25.03 Then there was a great earthquake and Jesus slew 00:26:25.07\00:26:29.32 more in His death, when I say slew I mean bringing about 00:26:29.35\00:26:34.56 a death of the first man. The carnal man 00:26:34.59\00:26:37.56 He has caused more people to die to self in His death then He did 00:26:37.60\00:26:42.62 when He was alive. 00:26:42.66\00:26:44.56 There was an earthquake in the temple of the Dragon. 00:26:44.59\00:26:49.78 In the citadel of the Dragon as it were. 00:26:49.81\00:26:52.65 It was a spiritual earthquake, the dragon and his foundation 00:26:52.68\00:26:57.64 were shaken at the death of Christ. 00:26:57.67\00:26:59.56 This is why we ought to take the word of God and see how 00:26:59.60\00:27:04.10 exciting it is, we began to see these principles unfolding 00:27:04.13\00:27:06.84 We should say man, Hollywood doesn't have anything 00:27:06.87\00:27:09.14 on this. Atonte: Hollywood couldn't touch it. 00:27:09.18\00:27:11.38 They can't create it because the Holy Spirit inspired this. 00:27:11.41\00:27:15.53 It is more exciting, has more drama, the best ending of a 00:27:15.56\00:27:18.98 story than any Hollywood movie could ever, ever dream up. 00:27:19.02\00:27:22.59 Hollywood tries to imitate the great controversy and imitate 00:27:22.62\00:27:25.75 the things of the word of God let me tell you, as we begin 00:27:25.78\00:27:29.89 to study the Word of God and make it our intense study, 00:27:29.92\00:27:33.68 we will begin to see that this word, this Bible is just 00:27:33.71\00:27:37.40 magnificent, the principles that are found there, the things 00:27:37.44\00:27:41.74 that God is trying to share with us in so many different 00:27:41.77\00:27:45.84 ways will just pull us in, we will not want to put this book 00:27:45.87\00:27:49.90 down because of how exciting it is. 00:27:49.93\00:27:51.91 It's our prayer that you will make the decision to take time, 00:27:51.95\00:27:55.89 to spend time in God's word because there is so much there. 00:27:55.92\00:27:59.83 Well we are all out of time, until next time God bless. 00:27:59.87\00:28:03.74
