at some of those principles

all, dealing with Bible names.

The Bible when it uses names,
first of all a name in the

Jewish context was
very important because

names were attached to meanings
and people were not just named

spuriously, they took
time to consider the character

of the child.

Then they would name the child.

When they taste like eight
days I think we read in history.

They take eight days or a week
to see what the child acted like

There are some names in
the Bible, some names given to

people and you wonder why did
their parents named them that?

But we do not have
the answer for that.

names carry significance when

attempting to
understand stories.

They that's a much more
to the story and we are going

to begin by looking at the
highest name of all, Jesus.

Matthew 1:21, the
Bible says that His name was

to be called Jesus
because He would save His people

The name Jesus means, Savior.

In particular Savior from sin.

So as we understand

It wasn't just a nice sounding

save His people from their sins.

the same chapter, it says that

His name was also
to be called Emanuel.

It means God with

reveals who Jesus Christ was.

important truth of who Jesus is.

He had to create a body

of understanding Bible names.

couple more names here.

The name Israel for example.

Israel, which was the name
that was given to Jacob after he

wrestled with God.

The name Israel means, overcomer
with God, one who has wrestled

with God and overcome.

So we see in that context
understanding the name Israel

in the New Testament,
where God describes His church

as Israel, we understand
that Israel composes those who

have wrestled
with God and overcome.

Those who have

They are made of both Jews
and Gentiles, because remember

Jacob was not born Israel.

He was considered the
first Israelite, but yet he

wasn't born
Israel, he was born Jacob.

the word Jacob means
deceiver, or Surplanter.

So he wrestled with God and he
overcame, God changed his name.

That's right, that is the story
with each and everyone of us.

We are all like a Jacob, as
it were, and God calls us to

wrestle with Him and in
overcoming He changes our names.

Symbolically speaking to Israel,
we become part of the Israel

of God, it doesn't matter where

all that matters is that I
have wrestled with God and now

He has changed my
name, or my character.

We can look at the name Barabbas
and that is an interesting name.

story of Jesus' crucifixion

in this episode where there is

brought out a criminal and the
Jews are called to ask who would

Jesus or Barabbas?

If you think about this, the
name Barabbas, bar means son of

an Abba, means father.

So here you have two
people standing before the Jews.

They are called to make a choice

When the antichrist comes.

His impersonation of Jesus

will be so powerful that many

You see in that story to
understand the name Barabbas

opens up great meaning to the
story, it is not just some guy

want Jesus or Barabbas?

We understand they were making
a choice between the Son of the

Father and the
son of the father.

In the last days the counterfeit
will be so close to the genuine,

studying our Bibles,

by the Spirit of God,

we will be deceived by
the counterfeit bar-aba,

important thing is being guided

Jewish people at that time knew

couple more names than we are

you that as you read a story

try to get an understanding

concordance or some other means

and that name is going to add

we don't want to praise God.

us this understanding or opens

add a little piece to the story.

you two more examples.

In the book of Revelation there
are seven churches that are

churches have seven names.

talk about two names.

One of the church's
names is name Pergamos.

The word Pergamos is symbolic
or actually means exultation

and marriage, Perga and gamos.

When you bring the word together
exultation through marriage.

This church represents the third
this is the third church rather

in the line of seven and it
represents the period of time

where the Church of God
was exalted through marriage

but not to Jesus
Christ, rather to the state.

In other words, it represented
a period of time in which

it's hand out in marriage
