Welcome to "Battles of Faith". 00:00:15.26\00:00:17.08 We're your hosts Ivor and Antonte Myers. 00:00:17.12\00:00:19.90 Today we are continuing our discussion 00:00:19.94\00:00:22.14 as we study the Bible. 00:00:22.18\00:00:23.77 We're learning how to study the Word of God. 00:00:23.80\00:00:26.00 Today's program is entitled: 00:00:26.03\00:00:28.11 "Nothing New, Only More Detail". 00:00:28.15\00:00:31.00 We're excited about this program because, again, 00:00:31.04\00:00:33.48 we are going to learn principles 00:00:33.52\00:00:35.49 that will help us as we study the Word. 00:00:35.53\00:00:37.75 So, we want you to get your Bibles, 00:00:37.79\00:00:39.19 get your pens, your highlighters, 00:00:39.23\00:00:41.22 everything that you need so that you'll be prepared 00:00:41.26\00:00:43.58 to go through the Bible with us, today. 00:00:43.62\00:00:45.35 - We want to share with our viewers 00:00:45.98\00:00:48.93 that the Word of God is not an unorganized book. 00:00:48.96\00:00:53.69 A lot of times people open it up and say: 00:00:53.73\00:00:55.54 "How do you make sense of this all?" 00:00:55.58\00:00:57.88 We want to show today that the Bible 00:00:57.91\00:01:00.57 is actually made up of principles of how to study 00:01:00.60\00:01:04.83 the Word of God, some really incredible principles 00:01:04.87\00:01:09.33 and the one that we'll be discussing today 00:01:09.37\00:01:11.85 we have called the principle of 00:01:11.88\00:01:13.91 "nothing new, only more detail". 00:01:13.95\00:01:16.91 Some people call this principle 'the principle of magnification 00:01:16.94\00:01:20.59 or repetition and enlargement' and it is really 00:01:20.62\00:01:24.49 an important principle to use when studying the Bible. 00:01:24.53\00:01:31.09 So, that's what we're going to be talking about today. 00:01:31.13\00:01:34.25 - So, if they follow this formula, 00:01:34.28\00:01:37.64 the Bible will really start to make sense. 00:01:37.68\00:01:39.92 - That's right. You can take this principle 00:01:39.95\00:01:42.00 almost like a ruler and just put it out to 00:01:42.04\00:01:44.23 the Word of God and see it in place after place, 00:01:44.27\00:01:47.25 and we're going to do some of that 00:01:47.28\00:01:48.48 today, on the program, so we want you to know 00:01:48.51\00:01:52.53 this is going to be like a real Bible study, 00:01:52.57\00:01:54.70 so, really get your Bibles, if you've got, 00:01:54.74\00:01:56.98 pen and paper if you want to start writing down, 00:01:57.01\00:01:58.44 that would be advisable and we're going to start 00:01:58.48\00:02:04.27 with Genesis 3. 00:02:04.30\00:02:06.21 Let me just illustrate, before we look at Genesis 3, 00:02:06.24\00:02:11.05 this principle of 'nothing new, only more detail' 00:02:11.09\00:02:13.91 in a very simple way; it describes how 00:02:13.94\00:02:20.84 the Word of God is written. 00:02:20.87\00:02:22.91 In the Bible there is nothing new; after a certain portion 00:02:22.95\00:02:28.00 of Scripture there is nothing new, only more detail. 00:02:28.04\00:02:31.13 This principle applies, in particular to 00:02:31.17\00:02:33.97 the book of Genesis 3:15. And we have there 00:02:34.01\00:02:42.38 the story of Adam and Eve and the fall 00:02:42.41\00:02:45.42 and Eve has listened to the serpant, she has eaten from 00:02:45.46\00:02:50.56 the tree, God has now come into the garden 00:02:50.60\00:02:54.14 and He is speaking to Adam and to Eve and to the serpant. 00:02:54.17\00:02:57.37 And in Genesis 3:15 we find the very first prophecy 00:02:57.40\00:03:02.19 in the Bible. It reads as this: 00:03:02.23\00:03:06.06 [text on the screen] 00:03:06.09\00:03:18.16 Here you have the very first prophecy given 00:03:18.19\00:03:21.20 in the entire Bible. 00:03:21.24\00:03:22.98 Well, guess what? 00:03:23.01\00:03:24.25 After this prophecy there is... 00:03:24.28\00:03:27.49 -...nothing new, only more detail. 00:03:27.52\00:03:30.04 - That's right. Nothing new, only more detail. 00:03:30.07\00:03:32.05 The entire Bible is an unfolding of this very verse, 00:03:32.09\00:03:36.27 Genesis 3:15. 00:03:36.31\00:03:37.84 Why do we say that? Genesis 3:15 is speaking 00:03:37.87\00:03:40.09 about the conflict that will take place 00:03:40.12\00:03:42.22 between Christ and Satan. 00:03:42.26\00:03:45.68 It is the great controversy summed up into one verse. 00:03:45.71\00:03:50.12 As you read through the rest of the Old Testament 00:03:50.15\00:03:52.94 and the New Testament you'll find that 00:03:52.97\00:03:55.47 the entire book is simply an outworking 00:03:55.51\00:03:59.06 or an unfolding of this war between good and evil 00:03:59.10\00:04:03.60 with Christ at the head of the forces of good, 00:04:03.64\00:04:08.24 and Satan at the head at the forces of evil. 00:04:08.27\00:04:11.19 So, we said that after Genesis 3:15 00:04:11.23\00:04:13.94 there is nothing new in the Bible, only more detail. 00:04:13.98\00:04:18.53 - So, a new student that's coming to the Word, 00:04:18.57\00:04:20.85 someone who really doesn't know anything the Bible, 00:04:20.89\00:04:22.87 that's the very first thing they need to understand: 00:04:22.91\00:04:24.53 the Word of God is basically based on that one verse, 00:04:24.56\00:04:30.26 the great controversy between Christ and Satan. 00:04:30.30\00:04:33.63 - That's right. What this does is that it kind of brings 00:04:33.67\00:04:36.18 the Bible down into a focus point 00:04:36.22\00:04:38.44 so as we read we're always reading with the context 00:04:38.48\00:04:41.73 of this war between Christ and Satan. 00:04:41.77\00:04:44.94 And we see, okay, everything I'm reading should be 00:04:44.98\00:04:47.71 an unfolding or a different revelation, a different picture 00:04:47.75\00:04:51.21 of this very same verse, this war between good and evil. 00:04:51.24\00:04:56.02 So, we find that this principle is literally true of the Bible, 00:04:56.06\00:05:00.09 in particular of the Old Testament, 00:05:00.12\00:05:02.30 but we also find the same principle in the New Tesatment. 00:05:02.34\00:05:05.40 The New Testament has its first prophecy found in 00:05:05.44\00:05:10.73 Matthew 1:21. - And it says: 00:05:10.77\00:05:15.45 [text on the screen] 00:05:15.48\00:05:23.24 - Okay. This is the first prophecy given 00:05:23.28\00:05:24.97 of the New Testament. 00:05:25.00\00:05:26.50 And, the prophecy of the Old Testament and 00:05:26.53\00:05:28.97 the prophecy of the New Testament, 00:05:29.01\00:05:30.16 I mean, in other words, Matthew 1:21 is really 00:05:30.20\00:05:32.61 an unfolding of Genesis 3:15. 00:05:32.65\00:05:37.09 The coming of this One who was to bruise the head 00:05:37.13\00:05:40.56 of the serpant. So, in Matthew 1:21 00:05:40.60\00:05:45.21 we have this prophecy given that Jesus would come 00:05:45.25\00:05:48.51 but more importantly, Atonte, that He would save His people 00:05:48.54\00:05:52.66 from their sins. 00:05:52.69\00:05:55.27 - Not only is that a prophecy, but it's a wonderful promise 00:05:55.31\00:05:58.06 that we can hold on to each and every day. 00:05:58.09\00:06:00.05 - That's right. Therefore, the entire New Testament 00:06:00.08\00:06:02.80 is an unfolding of Matthew 1:21, the story of how Jesus, 00:06:02.84\00:06:08.63 His birth, death and ressurection 00:06:08.67\00:06:11.01 and ministration on our behalf in heaven 00:06:11.05\00:06:15.70 would save us from our sins. 00:06:15.74\00:06:19.14 - And Matthew 1:21 is still just going deeper 00:06:19.18\00:06:22.63 from Genesis 3:15. 00:06:22.66\00:06:24.92 - That's right. It's an unfolding of this principle. 00:06:24.96\00:06:27.43 So, in the Old Testament we've got 00:06:27.47\00:06:29.48 the unfolding of Genesis 3:15, 00:06:29.52\00:06:31.44 and in the New Testament we've got 00:06:31.47\00:06:32.64 the unfolding of Matthew 1:21. 00:06:32.67\00:06:35.10 Now we're going to expand it a little bit 00:06:35.13\00:06:37.01 and look at the first five books of the Old Testament, 00:06:37.04\00:06:41.08 the first five books of Moses. 00:06:41.12\00:06:43.09 We're going to learn another principle, 00:06:43.13\00:06:44.53 we're going to see it supplied in another way. 00:06:44.56\00:06:47.41 The entire Old Testament is an unfolding of 00:06:47.45\00:06:51.80 the principles found in the first five books of Moses. 00:06:51.84\00:06:56.03 In other words, in the first five books of Moses 00:06:56.06\00:06:59.38 you've got the Gospel story in symbols, 00:06:59.41\00:07:03.72 within laws, and the rest of the Old Testament 00:07:03.76\00:07:08.25 is simply an unfolding of this principles, 00:07:08.28\00:07:11.91 either the acceptance of them or the rejection of them, 00:07:11.94\00:07:15.73 and what happens to those who accepted these principles, 00:07:15.77\00:07:18.82 what happens to those who rejected this principles. 00:07:18.86\00:07:21.89 If you look at a couple of examples, 00:07:21.92\00:07:24.11 for example...in Genesis 3:15, speaking again about 00:07:24.15\00:07:29.11 the coming of Christ, you will find that 00:07:29.15\00:07:31.46 this prophecy is built upon and amplified 00:07:31.50\00:07:35.93 in the book of Daniel 9, where Daniel is giving 00:07:35.97\00:07:39.68 a prophecy of the exact time that Christ was to come. 00:07:39.71\00:07:43.97 So, the prophecy of Daniel 9 is nothing new, 00:07:44.00\00:07:47.83 it's only more detail of that which was found in 00:07:47.86\00:07:51.76 the book of Genesis. 00:07:51.79\00:07:53.03 There was also the prophecy of the sanctuary given 00:07:53.06\00:07:55.93 in Daniel 8:14 and a really good portion of Daniel 8 deals 00:07:55.96\00:08:04.16 with the sanctuary. But the prophecy of sanctuary 00:08:04.19\00:08:08.83 is simply an outgrowth of the book of Leviticus 16 00:08:08.86\00:08:15.35 which explains the sanctuary service, 00:08:15.39\00:08:18.36 in particular the day of atonement 00:08:18.39\00:08:20.53 and the cleansing of the sanctuary. 00:08:20.56\00:08:22.50 So, what do you have there? You have the same principle, 00:08:22.53\00:08:25.08 nothing new in Daniel 9, only more detail. 00:08:25.12\00:08:30.73 We've also got, in Deuteronomy 3:21, 00:08:30.76\00:08:35.50 where God is promising His people 00:08:35.54\00:08:37.81 an entrance into the promissed land. 00:08:37.84\00:08:39.73 Well, this is really a seed of a greater prophecy 00:08:39.76\00:08:45.08 that is picked up in Daniel 2:44 00:08:45.12\00:08:47.76 where the Bible says that God will set His kingdom. 00:08:47.80\00:08:51.07 We're not talking about an earthly kingdom now, 00:08:51.11\00:08:54.34 we're talking about the heavenly kingdom 00:08:54.37\00:08:56.73 will be set up on earth. 00:08:56.76\00:08:58.75 So, in Daniel 2:44, when we read about this prophecy 00:08:58.78\00:09:02.29 of God's kingdom being set up on earth, again 00:09:02.33\00:09:06.08 we understand the principle of nothing new, only more detail. 00:09:06.11\00:09:12.14 And so, as we apply this principle to the Old Testament 00:09:12.18\00:09:15.50 we find that it falls true for almost everything 00:09:15.54\00:09:18.54 that you read; nothing new, only more detail. 00:09:18.57\00:09:20.78 -Now, we can find it in the New Testament as well. 00:09:20.82\00:09:23.61 - That's right. We can find the same principle 00:09:23.64\00:09:24.93 in the New Testament. 00:09:24.96\00:09:26.70 The New Testament is really an unfolding of 00:09:26.73\00:09:29.86 the first five books of the New Testament. 00:09:29.90\00:09:33.73 We're going to learn in another program 00:09:33.76\00:09:36.76 that Moses was actually a type of Jesus. 00:09:36.79\00:09:41.51 And as we have the first five books of Moses, 00:09:41.55\00:09:44.45 so the first five books, Matthew, Mark, Luke, 00:09:44.48\00:09:47.60 John and Acts are all revolving around the second Moses, 00:09:47.64\00:09:52.51 as it were, or Jesus. 00:09:52.55\00:09:54.64 And the rest of the New Testament 00:09:54.67\00:09:56.89 is simply an unfolding of those principles that 00:09:56.92\00:10:01.49 were founded, that were written in the books of 00:10:01.53\00:10:04.61 Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and in the book of Acts. 00:10:04.65\00:10:07.27 It's an unfolding. It's the principle of nothing new, 00:10:07.30\00:10:10.17 only more detail. 00:10:10.20\00:10:11.87 Even when you get down to the book of Revelation. 00:10:11.90\00:10:15.22 Revelation is simply an unfolding of the very prophecies 00:10:15.25\00:10:18.96 found in places like Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21, 00:10:19.00\00:10:24.57 John 5 and also in Acts 1 and 2. 00:10:24.60\00:10:28.13 In Acts 1 and 2 the Bible speaks about the outpouring 00:10:28.16\00:10:32.42 of the Holy Spirit and of the Spirit of God falling 00:10:32.45\00:10:36.63 upon His people, while in the book of Revelation 00:10:36.67\00:10:39.04 we also find that there is going to be an outpouring 00:10:39.08\00:10:42.03 of God's Spirit, a sealing, as it were. 00:10:42.06\00:10:45.00 We find, when we get to the book of Revelation: 00:10:45.03\00:10:47.58 'oh, nothing new, only more detail of what Jesus spoke of 00:10:47.61\00:10:51.75 in Matthew 24'. 00:10:51.79\00:10:53.29 - I know people who won't even open 00:10:54.48\00:10:55.85 the book of Revelation because it's just seems 00:10:55.89\00:10:57.98 so difficult, or sometimes so scarry because 00:10:58.01\00:11:00.26 it's talking about beast and it's using symbols of this, 00:11:00.29\00:11:02.91 symbols of that, and they are just like: 'it's a closed book 00:11:02.94\00:11:05.72 for me because I just don't understand it'. 00:11:05.75\00:11:07.39 But if they begin with this principle 00:11:07.43\00:11:09.15 they can start to peel the onion, if you will, 00:11:09.18\00:11:12.85 and it'll start to make a lot of sense. 00:11:12.89\00:11:15.45 - That's right. Let's look at another principle, 00:11:15.48\00:11:17.41 another example of this. 00:11:17.44\00:11:19.17 In the Old Testament you have the law of God. 00:11:19.20\00:11:21.77 And, the New Testament... Some people say: 00:11:21.80\00:11:25.11 'Oh, the New Testament got rid of the law of God'. 00:11:25.15\00:11:27.95 No, far from it. The New Testament 00:11:27.98\00:11:29.94 is nothing new, only more detail. 00:11:29.97\00:11:34.84 - The law of God is restated in the New Testament. 00:11:34.87\00:11:37.89 - Yes. Not only restated, but also stated in more detail. 00:11:37.93\00:11:42.30 Jesus says: "You have heard it said 00:11:42.34\00:11:46.62 in times passed that thou shalt not commit adultery, 00:11:46.65\00:11:49.90 but I say unto you that if you look after a woman 00:11:49.94\00:11:53.22 to lust after her, you have committed adultery 00:11:53.25\00:11:55.18 already in your heart." 00:11:55.21\00:11:56.22 You see, this principle of the unfolding, 00:11:56.25\00:11:59.16 nothing new, only more detail. 00:11:59.19\00:12:01.11 - Or thou shall not kill, but if you hate your brother 00:12:01.14\00:12:04.52 you've murdered in your heart. 00:12:04.56\00:12:06.25 - The sermon on the mount is an amplification 00:12:06.28\00:12:09.78 of the ten commandments, so, following this principle 00:12:09.82\00:12:12.25 we also realize: "Wait a minute, 00:12:12.29\00:12:13.51 the ten commandments haven't been done away with, 00:12:13.55\00:12:15.07 it's only stated in more detail in the New Testament". 00:12:15.10\00:12:19.93 The first five books of the Old Testament revolve 00:12:19.97\00:12:24.26 around the law of God written on stone. 00:12:24.29\00:12:27.27 The first five books of the New Testament 00:12:27.30\00:12:29.71 revolve around Jesus writing the law of God 00:12:29.74\00:12:34.09 in the hearts of humanity. 00:12:34.13\00:12:37.19 Nothing new, only more detail. 00:12:37.23\00:12:40.63 - Because the New Testament does focus more 00:12:40.66\00:12:42.53 on these things really becoming a part of you, 00:12:42.57\00:12:45.54 spiritually. It takes over more of your life 00:12:45.58\00:12:48.67 than just their ten commandments written on stone. 00:12:48.71\00:12:51.39 - Right. Another example is Genesis 3:21 00:12:51.43\00:12:54.82 where the Bible says God made coats of skin 00:12:54.86\00:12:58.01 for Adam and Eve. Well, where did He make 00:12:58.04\00:13:02.04 these coats of skin from? 00:13:02.07\00:13:03.20 He had to make them from an animal. 00:13:03.23\00:13:05.47 He sacrificed an animal. And, as you look at the 00:13:05.51\00:13:08.75 sanctuary service, the sanctuary service began 00:13:08.79\00:13:12.22 with sacrifice. That was the first step as you went 00:13:12.26\00:13:16.57 through the sanctuary. The first thing that 00:13:16.61\00:13:18.47 had to occur was sacrifice. 00:13:18.50\00:13:19.95 Well, in Genesis 3:21, this sacrificial act was a seed 00:13:19.98\00:13:24.77 for the Old Testament's sanctuary system 00:13:24.80\00:13:29.42 that was going to be put in place. 00:13:29.46\00:13:31.22 It was a nutshell, it was the thing at a distance 00:13:31.25\00:13:36.10 and, as we begin to see this sanctuary service unfold 00:13:36.14\00:13:39.76 in the Old Testament, those who were thinking 00:13:39.80\00:13:43.09 would think that to what God did for Adam and Eve 00:13:43.13\00:13:46.35 as he clothed them with skins. 00:13:46.38\00:13:49.25 So, Christ wants to clothe us 00:13:49.29\00:13:51.27 with His perfect righteousness. 00:13:51.30\00:13:54.08 - That's right. And I can only think that Satan was 00:13:54.11\00:13:57.94 looking on as God had to actually take that first 00:13:57.97\00:14:01.25 sacrifice and clothe them, and I think he started to see 00:14:01.28\00:14:05.45 what the plan of salvation was going to be. 00:14:05.48\00:14:07.37 And I think he was shaking in his boots even then, 00:14:07.41\00:14:09.16 if you will, not that he's actually wearing boots. 00:14:09.19\00:14:11.09 He started to get nervous. - Exactly. 00:14:11.13\00:14:13.88 You think about this sanctuary service, 00:14:13.91\00:14:15.91 and there's sacrifice. This sacrifice began 00:14:15.94\00:14:19.19 the plan of salvation, this sacrifice reveals 00:14:19.23\00:14:24.32 this was the opening step to the plan of salvation. 00:14:24.36\00:14:29.45 Well, in the same way we find in the New Testament 00:14:29.48\00:14:32.11 that the sacrifice of Christ did not complete 00:14:32.15\00:14:35.97 the plan of salvation, it opened it up. 00:14:36.00\00:14:38.62 You see? Nothing new, only more detail. 00:14:38.66\00:14:41.00 Well, you say: "What is Jesus doing now 00:14:41.03\00:14:42.36 if it wasn't completly paid at the cross?" 00:14:42.39\00:14:44.00 Well, the Bible tells us in the book of Hebrews, that 00:14:44.03\00:14:46.92 Jesus has ascended into heaven. He is now our high priest 00:14:46.95\00:14:50.93 and He has begun His work in the heavens 00:14:50.97\00:14:53.92 to redeem mankind. In other words, He is going to finish 00:14:53.96\00:14:57.97 His work in heaven. The work of salvation 00:14:58.01\00:15:00.30 did not end with the sacrifice of Christ. It began with 00:15:00.33\00:15:03.68 the sacrifice of Christ. 00:15:03.72\00:15:05.92 Without that, everything else fails. 00:15:05.95\00:15:08.08 So, again you see this principle of nothing new, 00:15:08.11\00:15:11.40 only more detail really laid out in the Scripture. 00:15:11.43\00:15:14.99 Now, we're going to look at one more example, 00:15:15.02\00:15:16.84 and then we're going to go to the book of Daniel, 00:15:16.88\00:15:18.39 because this is where we really want to see 00:15:18.42\00:15:19.67 this principle in action. 00:15:19.71\00:15:21.43 The book of Revelation operates on this very same principle. 00:15:21.47\00:15:25.69 The first three chapters of Revelation deal with 00:15:25.73\00:15:31.57 the seven churches. 00:15:31.61\00:15:33.17 Now, these seven churches are an unfolding 00:15:33.20\00:15:37.73 of the history of the church of God from 00:15:37.77\00:15:41.41 the ressurection of Christ all the way down 00:15:41.44\00:15:44.63 to the second coming. 00:15:44.66\00:15:46.68 We're going to look at some other principles later on 00:15:46.71\00:15:48.34 to see how we come to that conclusion 00:15:48.38\00:15:50.10 I'll share with you very briefly: that the number 7 00:15:50.13\00:15:53.45 represents a complete cicle of time. 00:15:53.49\00:15:56.62 You've got 7 churches and at the beginning of 00:15:56.66\00:15:59.44 the 7 churches, John sees Jesus as he said: 00:15:59.47\00:16:05.64 "I was dead, and am alive". 00:16:05.67\00:16:07.88 The time spent lets us know that this is shortly after 00:16:08.50\00:16:10.88 His ressurection, that's the beginning of 00:16:10.91\00:16:13.25 the 7 churches and the churches end 00:16:13.29\00:16:15.28 with the prophecy of judgement, 00:16:15.31\00:16:17.42 which lets us know that these 7 churches cover 00:16:17.46\00:16:20.34 a period of time from the ressurection of Christ 00:16:20.38\00:16:23.35 all the way down to the judgement in the last days. 00:16:23.38\00:16:27.00 In order to understand the rest of the book of Revelation 00:16:27.03\00:16:31.08 we must rightly understand those 7 churches. 00:16:31.12\00:16:35.89 In other words, the book of Revelation is nothing new, 00:16:35.93\00:16:39.29 but an unfolding of the history already found in the 7 churches 00:16:39.32\00:16:45.47 in the first prophecy of the book of Revelation. 00:16:45.50\00:16:48.61 - So, what can we look at with the 7 churches? 00:16:49.44\00:16:53.78 How does it begin, with the first church? 00:16:53.82\00:16:55.35 - Okay...we're not even get all the way into these churches, 00:16:55.38\00:16:59.44 but the first curch, meaning the church of Ephesus, 00:16:59.47\00:17:01.73 represents the church in a state of [???]. 00:17:01.76\00:17:04.74 The second church represents the church 00:17:04.77\00:17:06.99 in a state of persecution. 00:17:07.02\00:17:09.54 The word 'Smirna' comes from the word 'myrrh' 00:17:09.57\00:17:12.69 which was used as they embalmed the dead. 00:17:12.73\00:17:17.00 As you go down through these churches 00:17:17.03\00:17:19.02 it actually explains the 7 stages 00:17:19.05\00:17:22.15 that the church would go through, from persecution 00:17:22.18\00:17:24.21 to compromise, to coming back to God, 00:17:24.25\00:17:28.30 all the way down to judgement. 00:17:28.33\00:17:30.25 The prophecies of Revelation after that 00:17:30.29\00:17:33.51 really expand, they go back, it's like a cicle, 00:17:33.55\00:17:36.55 it goes back and now you have these 7 seals, 00:17:36.59\00:17:38.83 these 7 trumpets. It goes back and expands 00:17:38.87\00:17:41.53 from a different angle; nothing new, simply more detail 00:17:41.57\00:17:46.67 of the history of the church, because, let's face it, 00:17:46.71\00:17:49.66 the book of Revelation is all about 00:17:49.69\00:17:51.25 how the people of God overcome the beast. 00:17:51.28\00:17:54.49 Nothing more in there, only more detail. 00:17:54.52\00:17:57.14 And again, what it helps to do is that it 00:17:57.17\00:17:58.84 helps to bring the book of Revelation into a more compact, 00:17:58.88\00:18:04.74 focus thing so we can say: "I now know what this book 00:18:04.77\00:18:08.42 is trying to explain to me and, in the understanding of 00:18:08.45\00:18:11.36 the 7 churches and the history of the 7 churches, 00:18:11.39\00:18:13.80 I can begin to look for the things like compropmise, 00:18:13.83\00:18:16.89 where did that come in, the law of God, 00:18:16.92\00:18:19.97 where does that play, Jesus saving His people 00:18:20.01\00:18:22.04 from their sins, how does this play in? Genesis 3,15, 00:18:22.07\00:18:24.98 how does this play in?" 00:18:25.02\00:18:26.27 And you have this continual principle of nothing new, 00:18:26.30\00:18:29.46 only more detail. 00:18:29.50\00:18:31.42 Now, we're going to go to the book of Daniel 00:18:31.45\00:18:34.62 and we're going to actually walk through Daniel. 00:18:34.65\00:18:37.31 There are several prophetic chapters 00:18:37.35\00:18:40.80 in the book of Daniel. There's Daniel 2, 00:18:40.83\00:18:42.66 there's Daniel 7, Daniel 8, Daniel 9, 11 and 12 00:18:42.69\00:18:50.16 that are prophetic chapters. 00:18:50.19\00:18:52.62 There're 12 chapters, but only these, 00:18:52.65\00:18:54.45 I believe I just counted 6 or 7, only these are 00:18:54.48\00:18:57.87 the prophetic portions. 00:18:57.91\00:19:01.15 Now, all of the book of Daniel 00:19:01.18\00:19:02.83 has a last day-scenario application to it, 00:19:02.87\00:19:07.51 but in terms of vision, prophecy and different 00:19:07.54\00:19:11.43 things like that we're talking about the books that are 00:19:11.47\00:19:13.46 specifically prophetical. We're going to begin to see, 00:19:13.49\00:19:19.91 in Daniel, that this principle of nothing new, 00:19:19.95\00:19:23.32 only more detail cuts out a lot of confusion 00:19:23.35\00:19:27.22 that is out there in the world. 00:19:27.25\00:19:28.54 So, let me say this before we get to Daniel. 00:19:28.58\00:19:30.00 Remember, the reason why we are looking at 00:19:30.04\00:19:32.59 how to study the Bible is because 00:19:32.62\00:19:34.71 it is the devil's rule, it is the devil's purpose 00:19:34.75\00:19:37.79 to make the book of Daniel, to make the Bible 00:19:37.82\00:19:40.85 seem like a boring book that makes no sense. 00:19:40.89\00:19:43.77 - Or of confusion... - Or a book of confusion. 00:19:43.80\00:19:45.66 And we're trying to show that, no, the books of the Bible 00:19:45.69\00:19:48.50 are written on laws just as permanent laws, 00:19:48.54\00:19:55.75 just as truthful as real signs, true signs. 00:19:55.78\00:20:00.79 So, let's go ahead now and look at Daniel 2. 00:20:00.83\00:20:03.94 And in Daniel 2 we have an image of a man that... 00:20:03.98\00:20:09.13 rather Nebuchadnezzar has a dream, 00:20:09.16\00:20:12.99 and in this dream 00:20:13.03\00:20:14.26 he sees an image of a man. He doesn't know 00:20:14.29\00:20:16.04 what this dream means, Daniel interprets it. 00:20:16.08\00:20:18.13 Now, we're not going to explain this prophecy, 00:20:18.17\00:20:19.92 we're just going to show this principle of 00:20:19.96\00:20:21.83 nothing new, only more detail. 00:20:21.87\00:20:23.57 In Daniel 2, Daniel explains to Nebucadnezzar that 00:20:23.61\00:20:26.07 what he saw was a statue of a man whose head 00:20:26.11\00:20:29.72 was of gold, his chest and arms of silver, 00:20:29.76\00:20:34.07 his belly and thighs of brass, his legs of iron, 00:20:34.11\00:20:38.05 his toes part iron and part clay. 00:20:38.08\00:20:41.74 Rightly understanding this vision will give us 00:20:41.78\00:20:45.79 an incredible key. Why? 00:20:45.82\00:20:46.95 Because in the rest of the book of Daniel 00:20:46.99\00:20:48.56 there is nothing new, only more detail. 00:20:48.59\00:20:54.78 Once we understand what this image represents, 00:20:54.81\00:20:57.97 which power this image represents, 00:20:58.01\00:21:00.53 the head of gold, who did that represent? 00:21:00.57\00:21:02.33 The chest and arms of silver, who did that represent? 00:21:02.37\00:21:04.10 All the way down to the toes. When we come over to Daniel 7 00:21:04.13\00:21:07.82 we're going to see that Daniel 7 is really 00:21:07.86\00:21:09.82 nothing new, only more detail. 00:21:09.85\00:21:13.76 I'll give you an example. 00:21:13.80\00:21:15.47 The clay of Daniel 2... what does that clay represent? 00:21:15.51\00:21:20.64 Well, according to the Bible, Isaiah 64,8, clay is used 00:21:20.68\00:21:24.72 to represent a people who profess to be gods. 00:21:24.75\00:21:28.86 Isaiah 64,8 says: "you are the potter, we are the clay, 00:21:28.89\00:21:31.69 mold us". It's talking about God's people 00:21:31.73\00:21:34.58 calling themselves the clay. 00:21:34.61\00:21:36.06 Well, this clay statue or this clay image at the bottom, 00:21:36.10\00:21:39.60 or rather towards the end of this prophecy represents 00:21:39.63\00:21:44.66 a kingdom or a power that would profess 00:21:44.70\00:21:48.34 to belong to who? To God. 00:21:48.37\00:21:51.04 That's all we know. If you read the prophecy of Daniel 2 00:21:51.08\00:21:55.03 and those of you who are not familiar with it please read it 00:21:55.07\00:21:57.37 and you will understand what I'm talking about, 00:21:57.40\00:21:59.15 there's a stone cut out without hands that breaks 00:21:59.19\00:22:02.04 this whole statue apart, but it hits the stone 00:22:02.08\00:22:04.17 on the feet mingled with iron and clay. 00:22:04.21\00:22:06.55 Why? Because that is the most offensive part 00:22:06.58\00:22:09.00 of this image to God. 00:22:09.03\00:22:11.17 It is the second coming of Christ that smites this image 00:22:11.20\00:22:13.71 on its feet. Now, let's jump over to Daniel 00:22:13.75\00:22:17.33 7. In Daniel 7 we're going to find that there are 00:22:17.37\00:22:20.61 four kingdoms that are presented, 00:22:20.64\00:22:22.99 just like chapter 2: head of gold, 00:22:23.03\00:22:24.84 chest and arms of silver, belly and thighs of brass, 00:22:24.87\00:22:26.91 legs of iron. In Daniel 7 we've got 00:22:26.94\00:22:30.73 a lion, a bear, a leopard and a non-descript beast. 00:22:30.77\00:22:39.07 If we put those two side by side, 00:22:39.11\00:22:42.16 you know what we're going to find? 00:22:42.20\00:22:43.38 They actually correspond. 00:22:43.41\00:22:45.58 The head of gold is none other that the lion. 00:22:45.62\00:22:47.94 The chest and arms are none others than the bear. 00:22:47.97\00:22:51.30 The belly and thighs are none other than the leopard, 00:22:51.33\00:22:55.75 and the legs of iron, none other than 00:22:55.79\00:22:59.12 that fourth none-descriptive beast. 00:22:59.16\00:23:02.52 Now, notice this. The beast has how many horns? 00:23:02.55\00:23:05.53 - Ten horns! - The beast has ten horns, 00:23:05.57\00:23:12.27 but in the book of Daniel 2, the image has 10 toes. 00:23:12.31\00:23:19.66 Those 10 toes are going to correspond 00:23:19.70\00:23:21.50 with the 10 horns. Now, in Daniel 2 we see 00:23:21.54\00:23:25.38 rising up, among the toes of iron, we see this element 00:23:25.42\00:23:29.31 of clay. Okay? Are we going to find 00:23:29.35\00:23:32.98 the corresponding part in Daniel 7? 00:23:33.02\00:23:36.24 Yes we are, because if you look at Daniel 7 00:23:36.28\00:23:39.21 right after those ten horns are described, 00:23:39.25\00:23:42.60 the Bible says there was another little horn that rose up 00:23:42.64\00:23:47.47 among the ten. This little horn is going to correspond 00:23:47.50\00:23:51.61 to that clay kingdom of Daniel 2 00:23:51.64\00:23:54.80 and now it's going to give us more detail. 00:23:54.84\00:23:56.50 This little horn will think to change God's time and laws, 00:23:56.53\00:23:59.26 it will persecute the saints. Now, we're going: "Oh! 00:23:59.29\00:24:02.63 I understand now why the clay kingdom was so offensive to God 00:24:02.66\00:24:06.00 because in Daniel 7 it professed to be doing God's will. 00:24:06.04\00:24:10.25 Exactly. It professed to be doing God's will, 00:24:10.29\00:24:12.27 but it was doing simple things. 00:24:12.30\00:24:13.48 Daniel 7 gives us more detail and now we see it makes sense. 00:24:13.52\00:24:18.00 If we go on to Daniel 8 we will find that 00:24:18.03\00:24:21.95 the Bible prophecy zoomes in and we don't have time 00:24:21.99\00:24:25.93 to go through the rest of the prophecies, 00:24:25.97\00:24:28.36 but you'll find that Daniel 8 simply zoomes in 00:24:28.40\00:24:31.87 on what Daniel 7 had already explained. 00:24:31.90\00:24:34.19 Daniel 9 it does the very same thing. Daniel 11 it zoomes in 00:24:34.23\00:24:39.14 even further. It's kind of like... 00:24:39.18\00:24:40.91 -...well, like a digital camera. You're zooming in 00:24:40.95\00:24:45.58 closer and closer until you get very close, 00:24:45.62\00:24:48.36 with a lot of details. 00:24:48.40\00:24:49.95 - Exactly. Now, the image in Daniel 2 represents power, 00:24:49.98\00:24:53.49 so, different nations. Let's say that in Daniel 2 00:24:53.52\00:24:55.87 we had four particular nations. What do we know about that? 00:24:55.90\00:24:59.22 We know that, when we get to Daniel 7 00:24:59.25\00:25:01.19 we're not going to find four other nations. 00:25:01.22\00:25:03.53 It's the same nations, but it's now going into 00:25:03.57\00:25:06.68 more detail. The same thing with Daniel 8. 00:25:06.72\00:25:09.07 We're not going to find something new. 00:25:09.11\00:25:10.52 We're simply going to find more detail. 00:25:10.56\00:25:12.86 China is not going to pop up in the picture somewhere 00:25:12.89\00:25:15.32 or Russia or something like that. 00:25:15.36\00:25:16.79 God is trying to keep us focused as we study the Bible 00:25:16.83\00:25:20.81 and as we see these principles unfold, again it let's us know 00:25:20.85\00:25:25.03 this is the God that wrote the Bible. 00:25:25.07\00:25:27.19 He's a God of order. He's a God of law. 00:25:27.23\00:25:29.03 And there are laws that actually apply to studying the Bible. 00:25:29.06\00:25:33.97 - And this is why God, I believe, wrote the Bible 00:25:34.01\00:25:37.41 or allowed it to be written in this way 00:25:37.44\00:25:39.15 so that we would have to spend time with it 00:25:39.19\00:25:41.45 and study it line upon line, 00:25:41.48\00:25:42.96 precept upon precept. 00:25:43.00\00:25:44.56 You can't just skim over it 00:25:44.60\00:25:46.57 and get this kind of things out of it, if you really 00:25:46.60\00:25:49.62 study it. 00:25:49.66\00:25:50.63 - That's right. If you look at the scientists, 00:25:50.64\00:25:51.61 scientists put a lot of time into what they do, 00:25:51.62\00:25:54.90 and they pay attention to details. 00:25:54.94\00:25:57.54 As students of the Word of God, as students of the Bible, 00:25:57.58\00:26:01.36 we ought to take that time, we ought to take our work 00:26:01.40\00:26:04.42 as serious as scientists take their work. 00:26:04.45\00:26:07.08 And see this book as a divine inspired book as it is, 00:26:07.11\00:26:11.55 and as we begin to go through it under the guidance 00:26:11.58\00:26:14.14 of the Holy Spirit, God will begin to reveal to us 00:26:14.18\00:26:17.06 these principles, amazing principles, 00:26:17.10\00:26:20.22 principles that stand true; no matter where you put it 00:26:20.26\00:26:23.07 in the Word of God you'll see this principle unfolding 00:26:23.11\00:26:25.46 and I believe that this is one of the things that really 00:26:25.50\00:26:28.30 helps to solidify a person's Bible study when they realize 00:26:28.34\00:26:32.04 how beautifully written the Word of God is 00:26:32.08\00:26:35.56 and the principles upon which it is written. 00:26:35.60\00:26:38.46 - And again, there is nothing more powerful than young people 00:26:38.50\00:26:41.60 to get excited and study this book and to get on fire, 00:26:41.64\00:26:44.79 and to know their Word, because nobody can share with the world 00:26:44.82\00:26:47.65 as powerfully as young people. So, God is calling you 00:26:47.69\00:26:52.22 to get into the Word and to study your Bible 00:26:52.26\00:26:54.32 and to share it with the world. 00:26:54.36\00:26:56.16 And, of course, you have an enemy that's fighting you 00:26:56.19\00:26:58.26 on all sides, at all times, but God is more powerful 00:26:58.30\00:27:01.17 and He has called you to this. 00:27:01.20\00:27:03.52 - That's right. There are deep things of the Scripture 00:27:03.55\00:27:06.20 and because the enemy of souls has so many things going on, 00:27:06.23\00:27:10.43 we don't have time to really dig into the Word. 00:27:10.47\00:27:13.74 And so many young people say: "I don't understand 00:27:13.78\00:27:15.51 what I believe, or why I believe it", 00:27:15.54\00:27:17.09 but it's right there before us if we would only take God, 00:27:17.13\00:27:19.98 take His Word and say: "Alright Lord, teach me 00:27:20.02\00:27:22.92 how to study the Bible." 00:27:22.95\00:27:24.68 You know, Atonte, when I was out in the hip-hop industry 00:27:24.71\00:27:26.45 my code name was Yoda, because I wanted to be seen 00:27:26.49\00:27:29.50 as wise. Walking around with dreadlocks 00:27:29.53\00:27:32.33 and with a cane and looking all crazy. 00:27:32.37\00:27:35.53 But the Lord showed me that I was really foolish out there 00:27:35.56\00:27:39.51 in the world and that true wisdom is found in 00:27:39.54\00:27:43.02 studying and understanding His Word. 00:27:43.05\00:27:45.14 Not wisdom that we posses of ourselves, but wisdom 00:27:45.18\00:27:48.01 that God wants to give all His people 00:27:48.05\00:27:50.25 and that is the best thing that we can receive from God. 00:27:50.29\00:27:53.75 - Well, we are out of time, but we just pray that 00:27:53.79\00:27:57.30 you will join us next time. 00:27:57.33\00:27:58.79 Until then, God bless! 00:27:58.82\00:28:01.51
