Welcome to "Battles of Faith". 00:00:14.99\00:00:16.60 We're your hosts Ivor and Atonte Myers. 00:00:16.63\00:00:19.55 Today we're continuing our discussion 00:00:19.58\00:00:22.13 about the French Revolution. 00:00:22.16\00:00:24.07 The title of today's program is 00:00:24.10\00:00:25.74 'The Science of Music and the Beast'. 00:00:25.77\00:00:28.18 Now, I know many of you are wondering 00:00:28.21\00:00:30.58 'what are they going to say? How does the French revolution 00:00:30.61\00:00:33.81 affect the music of today?' 00:00:33.84\00:00:35.57 Well, if you're about to change the channel 00:00:35.60\00:00:37.42 or go to another room, you're not going to want 00:00:37.45\00:00:39.20 to do that. You're going to want to sit down, 00:00:39.23\00:00:40.79 grab your Bible and go through the Scriptures with us 00:00:40.82\00:00:43.58 as we study this very important topic. 00:00:43.61\00:00:46.97 - Yes. We have been dealing with the French Revolution, 00:00:47.00\00:00:49.00 we've been discussing the Beast from the abyss 00:00:49.03\00:00:53.89 and showing how this beast, that rises up from the abyss, 00:00:53.92\00:00:57.53 according to Revelation 11:7 has a wide effect 00:00:57.56\00:01:03.69 on what we see today happening with our young people. 00:01:03.72\00:01:05.92 We are going to be looking today at music. 00:01:05.95\00:01:09.24 We have seen already evolution, 00:01:09.27\00:01:11.70 arising from this beast from the abyss, 00:01:11.73\00:01:16.04 from the French Revolution in our previous program... 00:01:16.08\00:01:18.63 sexual perversion, we have looked at the issue of 00:01:18.66\00:01:22.09 humanism and seen all these principles rising 00:01:22.12\00:01:25.71 out from this profetic event found in Revelation 11. 00:01:25.74\00:01:30.42 Again, I want to look at our graphic, 00:01:30.45\00:01:32.93 first graphic rather, which we have been 00:01:32.96\00:01:35.74 actually putting up there through previous shows 00:01:35.77\00:01:40.08 speaking of this dissemination of the French Revolution, 00:01:40.11\00:01:44.79 the principles that came out of the French Revolution 00:01:44.82\00:01:47.28 and it says here: 00:01:47.31\00:01:48.36 [text on the screen] 00:01:48.39\00:02:01.91 And that's in the book 'Education', page 228. 00:02:01.95\00:02:04.15 What we see here is that the principles that arose out of 00:02:04.18\00:02:07.49 the French Revolution, that led to the French Revolution 00:02:07.52\00:02:10.87 are now going out on a worldwide scale. 00:02:10.90\00:02:15.49 So, I'm saying that the French Revolution was 00:02:15.53\00:02:16.95 a test tube that the enemy was using, 00:02:16.98\00:02:19.49 and now, these things, humanism, evolution, sexual permissivness, 00:02:19.52\00:02:25.07 and now we're going to see music, 00:02:25.10\00:02:27.15 are all being the principles that the enemy is trying to use 00:02:27.18\00:02:32.60 and that are now being disseminated 00:02:32.63\00:02:34.57 on a worldwide basis. 00:02:34.60\00:02:36.61 We have a very interesting study today. 00:02:36.65\00:02:38.42 We're going to be looking at a chart we have created 00:02:38.45\00:02:42.97 and it's called 'The Family Tree of Musical Sorcery'. 00:02:43.00\00:02:47.53 If it's sounds interesting, that's because it is interesting 00:02:47.56\00:02:52.17 It's amazing to see the history of the kinds of music 00:02:52.20\00:02:56.96 that we listen to today, and that's what we'll be looking at. 00:02:56.99\00:02:59.64 So, I want to put our first slide up, our first graphic up 00:02:59.67\00:03:02.63 and we are going to see here, at the bottom of this graphic... 00:03:02.66\00:03:07.78 You see this family tree and, right at the bottom, 00:03:07.81\00:03:10.91 it stands the Santa Domingo slave trade. 00:03:10.94\00:03:15.75 I want to give a little history about that. 00:03:15.78\00:03:17.90 In 1492 Columbus discovered a little island or place 00:03:17.93\00:03:25.44 by the name of Hispaniola. 00:03:25.47\00:03:27.21 A little while later, the Spaniards sold this little 00:03:27.24\00:03:34.92 Caraibbean place to the French, and the French 00:03:34.95\00:03:39.22 changed the name from Hispaniola to Santa Domingo. 00:03:39.26\00:03:43.57 And it was here, in Santa Domingo, 00:03:43.60\00:03:45.69 where it became one of the popular centers for slave trade. 00:03:45.72\00:03:50.90 And what would happen is that tha slaves would come in, 00:03:50.93\00:03:53.96 would be brought in to this place and they were 00:03:53.99\00:03:58.25 immediately baptized as Catholics. 00:03:58.28\00:04:01.65 However, they were not allowed to read their Bibles, 00:04:01.68\00:04:05.18 they were not allowed to really understand 00:04:05.21\00:04:09.04 what it was that they were being baptized into. 00:04:09.07\00:04:10.96 What happened is that, these slaves, being brought 00:04:10.99\00:04:13.72 from various parts of Africa were separated so that 00:04:13.75\00:04:18.63 they would not really be able to communicate with each other. 00:04:18.67\00:04:21.23 That communication barrier was broken 00:04:21.26\00:04:23.73 and what happened is that these slaves began to come 00:04:23.76\00:04:27.99 together and to synchronize their various religions. 00:04:28.02\00:04:32.91 So, what they came up with was a religion 00:04:32.95\00:04:36.49 which we know today as voodoo. 00:04:36.52\00:04:39.88 - And it's something that they had in common 00:04:39.92\00:04:42.08 from Africa. 00:04:42.11\00:04:43.40 I mean, they had these religions and these worship services 00:04:43.44\00:04:46.57 in Africa, and the only thing that they could still relate to 00:04:46.60\00:04:49.00 each other was this religion; because they were forced 00:04:49.03\00:04:52.24 to become Catholic and they weren't able to, 00:04:52.27\00:04:56.21 publically, do their religion, 00:04:56.24\00:05:00.14 they had to do it in secrecy. They couldn't publically 00:05:00.18\00:05:02.31 practice their voodoo tradition or religion. 00:05:02.34\00:05:04.85 That's right. So, what happened 00:05:04.88\00:05:05.85 is that you've got this synchronization 00:05:05.86\00:05:07.62 of all thse various gods. 00:05:07.65\00:05:09.00 That's very interesting, because, when you look 00:05:09.03\00:05:11.37 at the prophecy of Revelation 11 00:05:11.40\00:05:13.77 where this beast that rises up from the abyss is... 00:05:13.80\00:05:18.23 A part of the location that is atributed to this beast 00:05:18.26\00:05:22.18 is Sodom and also Egypt. 00:05:22.21\00:05:25.43 We said in previous programs that Egypt was known 00:05:25.47\00:05:27.93 for its denial of God, when Pharaoh said: 00:05:27.96\00:05:30.77 'Who is God that I should serve Him?'. 00:05:30.80\00:05:32.58 But Egypt is also known for its multiplicity of gods. 00:05:32.61\00:05:37.53 You remember, when God was sending those plagues down 00:05:37.56\00:05:40.67 upon the Egyptians, those represented the ten different 00:05:40.70\00:05:45.99 gods, the gods of the water, the gods of the air. 00:05:46.02\00:05:49.27 Egypt was known for its multiplicity of gods and, 00:05:49.30\00:05:52.64 interesting enough, in this place called Santa Domingo 00:05:52.67\00:05:56.72 you've got all these different gods coming together, 00:05:56.75\00:06:00.43 being synchronized by the slaves, 00:06:00.46\00:06:04.52 and you come up with this religion called voodoo. 00:06:04.55\00:06:07.72 Now, what is so special about voodoo. 00:06:07.75\00:06:11.52 Hollywood makes a lot of fun about voodoo today 00:06:11.55\00:06:13.72 and people just shove it off but voodoo is an actual religion. 00:06:13.75\00:06:17.97 - It is. And the appropriate name for it is "vudun". 00:06:18.00\00:06:20.68 It turned to voodoo once, here in America, people 00:06:20.71\00:06:24.02 started to pick it up. But the original name 00:06:24.05\00:06:25.85 was "vudun". 00:06:25.88\00:06:26.98 - That's right. Now, we're going to throw 00:06:27.01\00:06:28.74 another graphic up here and we see here: 00:06:28.77\00:06:32.40 [text on the screen] 00:06:32.43\00:06:44.70 Interestingly enough, Atonte, the central figure of voodoo 00:06:44.73\00:06:50.04 is a serpant... 00:06:50.07\00:06:51.90 And we know that, as we look at the Bible, 00:06:51.93\00:06:53.91 we see that the serpant is symbolic of the Devil, of Satan. 00:06:53.94\00:06:59.03 And so, here you have these gods coming together 00:06:59.06\00:07:01.65 and you have the serpant as the central figure 00:07:01.68\00:07:06.89 and it is described as the religion under which 00:07:06.92\00:07:12.23 all who gather, share the faith. 00:07:12.27\00:07:15.27 This serpant is symbolic to something that, 00:07:15.30\00:07:19.09 according to the Bible, is satanic and wicked. 00:07:19.12\00:07:21.53 Now, we're going to look at another graphic here 00:07:21.56\00:07:25.13 and this graphic descibes what voodoo is about. 00:07:25.16\00:07:29.69 Listen to this: 00:07:29.72\00:07:30.69 [text on the screen] 00:07:30.70\00:08:16.40 - In other words, I like to paraphrase that almost like 00:08:16.44\00:08:20.98 it's the sign language to the gods. 00:08:21.01\00:08:23.60 The different dance movements that they do during 00:08:23.63\00:08:25.65 the voodoo service is an expression without words, 00:08:25.68\00:08:29.12 it's speaking to them. 00:08:29.15\00:08:30.67 - That's right. This is not a coreographed kind of dance. 00:08:30.70\00:08:33.67 We're talking about people who are dancing 00:08:33.70\00:08:36.00 according to what they were listening to, 00:08:36.03\00:08:38.23 according to what they heard. So, I'm going to put 00:08:38.26\00:08:40.96 another graphic up. Listen to this again: 00:08:40.99\00:08:43.86 [text on the screen] 00:08:43.89\00:09:18.94 So, here we have this description of what voodoo is. 00:09:20.36\00:09:23.45 Its key element, its holy instrument is the drum. 00:09:23.48\00:09:26.87 Its key elements are drum and dance. 00:09:26.90\00:09:29.74 And the serpant is the central figure of this voodoo religion. 00:09:29.77\00:09:38.40 Now, I want to read another statement here and, 00:09:38.43\00:09:43.75 by the way, we don't have refferences from these. 00:09:43.79\00:09:45.62 That's because we've got them from web sites 00:09:45.65\00:09:47.36 and these web sites are actually voodoo sites. 00:09:47.39\00:09:52.64 In other words, they explain voodoo. 00:09:52.68\00:09:53.94 So, we don't want to put the source up there, 00:09:53.97\00:09:55.82 but this is research that we share with you. 00:09:55.85\00:09:58.75 Listen to what this says: 00:09:58.78\00:10:00.28 [text on the screen] 00:10:00.31\00:10:27.91 - So, it's very much a part of their ceremony...the dance. 00:10:27.94\00:10:32.54 It is essential for them to be possesed by the spirits. 00:10:32.57\00:10:35.85 - In fact, in the voodoo religion, the dance represents 00:10:35.88\00:10:41.89 a unity of the gods and and the human body. 00:10:41.93\00:10:46.02 They call it that gods are riding the body. 00:10:46.05\00:10:50.21 And that's what happens when they come in, 00:10:50.25\00:10:52.17 when the gods supposedly come in, and 00:10:52.20\00:10:54.72 the body begins to move serpant-like is what they say. 00:10:54.75\00:10:57.79 The spine begins to move in a serpantlike way 00:10:57.82\00:11:00.55 and they say this is the possesion of the gods, 00:11:00.58\00:11:04.40 the gods riding their subjects. 00:11:04.43\00:11:06.60 - And again, I'm sure there are viewers out there thinking: 00:11:06.63\00:11:09.86 "Hey, well, we are Christians, we don't partake in voodoo." 00:11:09.89\00:11:12.33 And so, what does this have to do with the music issues 00:11:12.36\00:11:15.49 that we are facing today? 00:11:15.52\00:11:18.89 - We have been dealing with the French Revolution, 00:11:18.92\00:11:23.41 showing the spirit of anti-Bible and anti-God 00:11:23.44\00:11:27.56 that arose out of that revolution. 00:11:27.59\00:11:29.47 Well, how does this Santa Domingo and voodoo 00:11:29.50\00:11:33.99 tie in with that? 00:11:34.02\00:11:35.09 In 1791, right in the middle of the French Revolution 00:11:35.12\00:11:41.29 something happened on the island of Santa Domingo. 00:11:41.32\00:11:43.60 The slaves of Santa Domingo saw what was happening 00:11:43.63\00:11:47.56 in France. Remember, this is a French Caraibbean island. 00:11:47.59\00:11:50.25 They saw what was happening in Fance, 00:11:50.28\00:11:52.45 and the same spirit of uprising that they saw taking place 00:11:52.48\00:11:57.61 in France as it were imbude them. 00:11:57.64\00:12:00.82 In other words, they looked at what was happening in France 00:12:00.85\00:12:02.87 and said 'We are going to stage an uprising as well'. 00:12:02.90\00:12:05.33 And you have this uprising... 00:12:05.36\00:12:09.63 And, to this day, this Santa Domingo stage the only 00:12:09.66\00:12:14.62 successfull uprising, revolt that was 00:12:14.65\00:12:20.11 a successfull revolt. And at this very time, 00:12:20.15\00:12:24.11 the name of the island was changed to Haiti. 00:12:24.14\00:12:29.49 And that's how we know it today, as Haiti... 00:12:29.52\00:12:32.71 And there, the voodoo is a very intrical part of Haiti. 00:12:32.74\00:12:42.30 - It's a proeminent religion. 00:12:42.33\00:12:43.57 - That's right. And so, what we can see 00:12:43.60\00:12:45.45 according to one of the quotes that we have just seen, 00:12:45.48\00:12:48.58 is that the principles that led to the French Revolution 00:12:48.61\00:12:50.98 and that are rising out of the French Revolution, 00:12:51.01\00:12:53.33 are now being disseminated on a worldwide level. 00:12:53.36\00:12:56.43 We've seen it through evolution, sexual permissivness, 00:12:56.46\00:12:59.25 we've seen it through humanism and now we're going to look 00:12:59.28\00:13:05.63 at how this revolt in Haiti actually spread out. 00:13:05.66\00:13:11.26 We're going to put our graphic up again 00:13:11.29\00:13:12.70 and you'll notice there, on the third box, highlighted. 00:13:12.73\00:13:17.41 We have there the beast from the abyss, 00:13:17.44\00:13:19.27 the French Haiti revolution. 00:13:19.30\00:13:26.61 But now, you'll look up to the right and you'll notice 00:13:26.64\00:13:29.34 the Louisiana purchase. What is the Louisiana Purchase 00:13:29.37\00:13:32.91 all about? 00:13:32.94\00:13:33.91 Very simple. France, at this time had owned almost 00:13:33.92\00:13:38.46 all of the USA, as we know it today. 00:13:38.49\00:13:45.46 The whole thing was called Louisiana. 00:13:45.50\00:13:48.60 Well, in 1803-1804, France sells Louisiana to 00:13:48.63\00:13:55.34 America. 00:13:55.37\00:13:57.23 - And we know it as the famous "Louisiana Purchase". 00:13:57.27\00:13:59.44 - And what's interesting about that is...we've already 00:13:59.47\00:14:02.14 discussed that. The beast from the abyss 00:14:02.17\00:14:04.75 represented the things that took place in France, 00:14:04.78\00:14:08.55 the Revolution in France. 00:14:08.58\00:14:10.62 The beast from the earth, Revelation 13:11: 00:14:10.65\00:14:13.89 'the horns like a lamb... speaks like a dragon...' 00:14:13.92\00:14:15.78 represents events taken place in the US. 00:14:15.81\00:14:18.97 In the Louisiana Purchase you have France and the USA 00:14:19.00\00:14:22.44 making this land agreement. 00:14:22.47\00:14:24.65 What's so significant about that? 00:14:24.68\00:14:26.63 Well, part of the Louisiana Purchase are one of the 00:14:26.66\00:14:30.23 places which America aquired as her own 00:14:30.26\00:14:33.96 was a place called New Orleans. 00:14:33.99\00:14:37.26 - And then slaves were brought to New Orleans 00:14:37.29\00:14:40.32 and that started to be a major slave trade port for America. 00:14:40.35\00:14:45.22 - Exactly. And that is where, in New Orleans, voodoo 00:14:45.25\00:14:49.80 entered in America. 00:14:49.83\00:14:52.68 - A little side note: voodoo, as a religion, 00:14:52.72\00:14:56.33 wasn't allowed to be practiced 00:14:56.36\00:14:58.61 anywhere in America at that time, except for New Orleans. 00:14:58.64\00:15:03.13 - And, to even take that further, they were only allowed 00:15:03.16\00:15:07.24 to practice their voodoo ceremonies on Sundays 00:15:07.27\00:15:11.03 in congo square. And what happened as these slaves 00:15:11.06\00:15:15.83 came over to America and even the free came over 00:15:15.87\00:15:19.38 to America, and to New Orleans, they brought their voodoo 00:15:19.41\00:15:22.43 traditions with them, and they would begin 00:15:22.46\00:15:25.53 practicing their vudun at congo square. 00:15:25.56\00:15:29.96 And what happened is that you had people 00:15:30.00\00:15:32.09 that were coming, Americans that would come, 00:15:32.12\00:15:35.00 and wonder: "What is this strange music that 00:15:35.03\00:15:40.30 these people are doing, and this dancing?", 00:15:40.33\00:15:43.79 because it was foreign to America. 00:15:43.82\00:15:46.46 And what happened is that these tourists would see it 00:15:46.49\00:15:48.59 and it began to interest them so much that 00:15:48.62\00:15:51.58 they began to imitate it. 00:15:51.61\00:15:53.16 A part of the music that began to be popular 00:15:53.19\00:15:57.21 just around this time, the 1900's 00:15:57.24\00:15:59.46 was something known as "Ragtime". 00:15:59.49\00:16:02.14 The 'Ragtime' actually sprang out of New Orleans 00:16:02.17\00:16:05.05 as a result of the slaves that were brought in to New Orleans. 00:16:05.08\00:16:09.27 We can safely say that 'Ragtime', 00:16:09.30\00:16:11.79 with its off-time rythm, with the lawlessness 00:16:11.82\00:16:17.34 that it brought it with it, we can safely say that 00:16:17.38\00:16:19.66 this also ascended out of the beast, or out of the abyss 00:16:19.69\00:16:27.80 that we saw arose up from the French Revolution. 00:16:27.83\00:16:31.54 We've got Santa Domingo, we've got Haiti, 00:16:31.57\00:16:36.19 we've got the French Revolution, we've got France selling 00:16:36.23\00:16:39.00 Louisiana to America, we've got New Orleans 00:16:39.03\00:16:41.95 with the slaves coming over, the voodoo practicing slaves 00:16:41.98\00:16:44.61 coming over, and then we've got this music that 00:16:44.64\00:16:48.09 is introduced to America for the first time 00:16:48.12\00:16:50.81 called 'Ragtime'. 00:16:50.84\00:16:53.19 We're going to put our graphic up there 00:16:53.23\00:16:55.45 and you're going to notice on box no.5, 00:16:55.48\00:16:59.22 the highlighted box where it says: 00:16:59.25\00:17:01.70 'New Orleans slaves migrate from Haiti. Voodoo 00:17:01.73\00:17:04.21 enters America', box no.6: 'Ragtime' - is the music 00:17:04.24\00:17:09.37 that comes out of this style that they brought 00:17:09.40\00:17:13.83 to America. From there you'll se the word, 00:17:13.87\00:17:17.14 or the term 'R&B'. That stands for 00:17:17.17\00:17:22.74 Rythm and Blues, which sprung out of Ragtime. 00:17:22.77\00:17:25.99 And so, here you have this music that is beginning to 00:17:26.02\00:17:28.80 evolve, change forms, transform itself 00:17:28.83\00:17:34.68 and it's moving from one style to another. 00:17:34.71\00:17:38.28 Interesting thing about this is, we looked at the beast 00:17:38.31\00:17:41.86 from the abyss and saw that this beast represented Egypt 00:17:41.89\00:17:45.43 and Sodom - sexual permissivness. 00:17:45.46\00:17:50.23 And, as you look at these styles of music, 00:17:50.26\00:17:52.58 and their origins and what they cause, 00:17:52.61\00:17:55.08 we can ask a question: 'Do we see Egypt?' 00:17:55.11\00:17:58.74 "who is God that I should obey Him?"... 00:17:58.77\00:18:00.52 yes, because Ragtime and R&B were music 00:18:00.55\00:18:03.55 produced by those who did not want to have 00:18:03.58\00:18:05.98 anything to do with God. 00:18:06.01\00:18:07.57 They weren't into Christianity. 00:18:07.60\00:18:10.19 They looked at that as the 'white' religion 00:18:10.22\00:18:11.74 and so, they came up with a different form of music 00:18:11.77\00:18:15.02 and said: 'This is our own, this is our music that expresses 00:18:15.05\00:18:17.99 our sorrows, that expresses what we want to do 00:18:18.02\00:18:20.34 where we don't have much so we like to talk about 00:18:20.37\00:18:24.99 those things that make us all feel good', 00:18:25.02\00:18:27.02 which, at the time, and still now, was sexual permissivness, 00:18:27.05\00:18:31.54 lawlessness. We see that in this style of music. 00:18:31.57\00:18:34.63 We're going to look at the graphic again. 00:18:34.66\00:18:36.44 We're going to notice that, from R&B, the next box 00:18:36.47\00:18:39.46 highlighted would be Jazz. 00:18:39.49\00:18:41.61 1920's! And 'jazz' happens to be a sexual term, 00:18:41.64\00:18:46.31 term that was used.. - ...to describe sex. 00:18:46.34\00:18:49.88 - To describe sexual act. 00:18:49.91\00:18:51.90 So, here you have again; this music is fit into 00:18:51.93\00:18:55.08 the description of Sodom given to the beast 00:18:55.11\00:18:58.06 in Revelation 11. 00:18:58.09\00:19:00.58 Another interesting thing about this 00:19:00.62\00:19:01.85 is...as you look at New Orleans and the celebrations 00:19:01.88\00:19:07.27 that thay have happening in New Orleans... 00:19:07.30\00:19:09.16 In Revelation 11:10 it says: 00:19:09.19\00:19:14.53 "And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice 00:19:14.56\00:19:16.92 and make merry, and shall send gifts 00:19:16.95\00:19:20.16 one to another because these two prophets 00:19:20.19\00:19:22.58 tormented them that dwelt on the earth." 00:19:22.61\00:19:28.19 We're speaking here about the Old and the New Testament. 00:19:28.23\00:19:31.44 When the Old and the New Testament were put away, 00:19:31.47\00:19:33.54 the people celebrated because they were happy 00:19:33.57\00:19:38.41 that God was out of the picture. 00:19:38.44\00:19:41.46 And look at what was happening in New Orleans. 00:19:41.49\00:19:43.03 Look at all the celebrations that were going on there. 00:19:43.06\00:19:45.31 They're celebrations of sin, of wickidness. 00:19:45.34\00:19:48.13 Look at Southern decadence, a celebration of 00:19:48.16\00:19:50.17 sexual permissivness. 00:19:50.20\00:19:53.84 Look at the Jazz Festival... 00:19:53.88\00:19:57.92 All these different celebrations which are, for the most part, 00:19:57.95\00:20:02.09 accompanied with Sodom - sexual permissivness 00:20:02.12\00:20:05.58 and Egypt - 'who is God that I should obey Him?' 00:20:05.61\00:20:08.53 Looking at our graphic again we see that from jazz 00:20:08.56\00:20:14.96 and tha 1920's, you come to 00:20:14.99\00:20:16.75 Rock'n Roll in the '50s and the '60s. 00:20:16.78\00:20:20.72 And, amazingly enough, Rock'n Roll brought with it 00:20:20.75\00:20:25.37 the spirit of rebellion. 00:20:25.41\00:20:27.20 We can safely say that rock'n roll ascended out 00:20:27.23\00:20:30.83 of that abyss. 00:20:30.86\00:20:32.59 And you look: Sodom, Egypt are the principles there? 00:20:32.62\00:20:36.37 Very much so. They are there. 00:20:36.40\00:20:39.09 Now, rock'n roll took two different turns 00:20:39.13\00:20:43.54 in the '50s and the '60s. 00:20:43.58\00:20:45.01 Number 1: in the island of Jamaica. 00:20:45.04\00:20:49.04 They would listen to the music coming from New Orleans 00:20:49.08\00:20:54.39 which was popular music, pop music, 00:20:54.42\00:20:56.34 rock'n roll, jazz, blues, 00:20:56.37\00:20:58.12 they would listen to this, but the signal wasn't very strong 00:20:58.15\00:21:03.39 so it would break up and 00:21:03.42\00:21:05.57 they would go out at times and come back in 00:21:05.60\00:21:07.77 and what happened is that the Jamaicans formed 00:21:07.80\00:21:10.43 this style of music where the music is played 00:21:10.46\00:21:13.77 for a little while and then they purposely stop it, 00:21:13.80\00:21:15.69 and the DJ would talk, and the music would 00:21:15.72\00:21:17.98 start again. This is called 00:21:18.01\00:21:20.25 the forerunner of Reggae. 00:21:20.28\00:21:22.05 Well, in the 1970's, Reggae was taken from Jamaica 00:21:22.08\00:21:27.83 and brought back over to America 00:21:27.86\00:21:30.48 and there is where you have the introduction of hip-hop, 00:21:30.51\00:21:33.66 in the '70s and '80s, beginning in Bronx, New York. 00:21:33.69\00:21:39.89 - And there's where the rap music started. 00:21:39.93\00:21:42.28 - There's where hip-hop and rap music began. 00:21:42.31\00:21:45.64 Let me jump back a little bit. We're going to put our 00:21:45.67\00:21:47.55 graphic up one more time and you're going to notice that 00:21:47.58\00:21:49.93 large box that says: 'The Jesus Movement'. 00:21:49.96\00:21:54.44 What was the 'Jesus Movement'? 00:21:54.47\00:21:56.72 Some of you, who were around in the '50s and '60s, 00:21:56.75\00:21:58.86 or '60s rather remember the 'Jesus Movement'. 00:21:58.89\00:22:02.18 What happened there? 00:22:02.21\00:22:03.29 The hippies from the rock'n roll era, decided that, 00:22:03.32\00:22:07.14 after trying drugs, they were going to try Jesus. 00:22:07.17\00:22:11.10 And what they did is they became Christians, 00:22:11.13\00:22:15.09 but they took their music with them. 00:22:15.12\00:22:20.01 Now remember where this music is coming from. 00:22:20.05\00:22:21.84 It's coming from Santa Domingo, the vudun spirit of worship, 00:22:21.87\00:22:26.42 the gods entering the body and riding the body. 00:22:26.45\00:22:29.96 And, as you look at rock'n roll, what was happening 00:22:29.99\00:22:32.14 to the young people? 00:22:32.17\00:22:34.89 It was as though those spirits were entering 00:22:34.93\00:22:38.54 and just making them do all kinds of crazy rebellious things 00:22:38.57\00:22:43.15 The 'Jesus Movement' took that music, 00:22:43.18\00:22:46.51 and thus, you have the birth of what is known today 00:22:46.54\00:22:50.47 as CCM, Contemporary Christian Music. 00:22:50.50\00:22:54.92 Now, let me say here that CCM simply means 00:22:54.95\00:23:00.72 music that is contemporary with our times. 00:23:00.75\00:23:03.80 And I'm not saying that all contemporary christian music 00:23:03.83\00:23:06.28 is wrong, because artists should be free to do music 00:23:06.31\00:23:11.18 that is up to date. 00:23:11.21\00:23:13.08 But, the kind of music that reflects what we see 00:23:13.11\00:23:17.10 rising out of the abyss, that is where we take issue. 00:23:17.13\00:23:20.69 - And the most important thing, taking it back to 00:23:20.72\00:23:23.79 the voodoo religion, the way that they were able to create 00:23:23.82\00:23:27.13 that dance and that movement was from the drum. 00:23:27.16\00:23:29.87 The drummer was the key person in the voodoo ceremony, 00:23:29.90\00:23:34.84 to get them to move. You cannot dance in that way 00:23:34.87\00:23:38.58 without a drum. 00:23:38.61\00:23:40.42 And so now, as we're looking at Christian music 00:23:40.46\00:23:43.53 you're thinking: 'It's okay to have contemporary music', 00:23:43.56\00:23:46.18 but if it carries the same element that the voodoo 00:23:46.21\00:23:50.09 religion carried, then there is a problem. 00:23:50.12\00:23:52.82 Now, here's a powerful thing. 00:23:52.85\00:23:54.43 When the slaves of Santa Domingo began 00:23:54.46\00:23:58.79 to practice the vudun, they didn't do it openly 00:23:58.83\00:24:01.10 because they knew that the Catholics 00:24:01.13\00:24:03.34 were watching them and that they had to be 00:24:03.37\00:24:06.02 very careful. In other words voodoo had the power to 00:24:06.05\00:24:09.07 synchronize or hide itself under a religious disguise. 00:24:09.10\00:24:13.44 You go to some of those countries today 00:24:13.47\00:24:15.55 and you'll still see the element 00:24:15.58\00:24:17.10 of Catholicism mixed with voodoo. 00:24:17.13\00:24:18.95 Well, what we have happening in the '60s is this very same 00:24:18.98\00:24:22.46 principle. Voodoo, which has transformed itself, 00:24:22.49\00:24:25.77 evolved as it were, was able to adapt under 00:24:25.80\00:24:30.58 this Christian disguise and now it found its way 00:24:30.61\00:24:34.29 moving into what we now see, 00:24:34.32\00:24:35.90 we're going to put our graphic up one last time, 00:24:35.93\00:24:37.74 we have Christian Rap, Christian R&B, Christian Rock, 00:24:37.77\00:24:43.38 Christian Jazz. 00:24:43.41\00:24:45.59 And it's amazing to see how this musical tree of sorcery 00:24:45.63\00:24:54.37 began all the way back on this island, 00:24:54.40\00:24:57.39 and through the French Revolution 00:24:57.42\00:24:59.08 it just exploded upon the world. 00:24:59.11\00:25:01.66 And I want to read this quote again, 00:25:01.69\00:25:03.66 where it tells us that the worldwide dissemination 00:25:03.69\00:25:08.99 of the principles that led to the French Revolution 00:25:09.02\00:25:12.36 are leading the world into a state similar to that 00:25:12.39\00:25:19.34 which convulsed France. 00:25:19.38\00:25:20.91 - I have a powerful statement here. 00:25:20.94\00:25:22.92 It's talking about Jimmy Hendrix 00:25:22.95\00:25:26.03 who was in London one time with a drummer from Africa 00:25:26.06\00:25:30.83 who was a part of the voodoo religion. 00:25:30.86\00:25:32.57 Listen to what it says: 00:25:32.60\00:25:33.77 " He [Hendrix] had gotten a chance to see Rocky 00:25:33.80\00:25:36.05 [which is the gentleman from Africa] and some other 00:25:36.08\00:25:38.83 African musicians on a London scene. 00:25:38.86\00:25:40.81 He found it a pleasure to play rythms against 00:25:40.84\00:25:42.73 their poli-rythms. They would totally go outside into 00:25:42.76\00:25:46.48 another kind of space that he had seldom been 00:25:46.51\00:25:49.21 in before. Rocky's father was a voodoo priest 00:25:49.24\00:25:52.30 and the chief drummer of a village in Guana, West Africa. 00:25:52.33\00:25:55.61 Rocky's real name is Quazi. 00:25:55.64\00:25:58.10 One of the first things that Rocky asked Jimmy was 00:25:58.13\00:26:00.76 where he got that voodoo rythm from. 00:26:00.79\00:26:03.46 When Jimmy dimarred Rocky went on to explain, 00:26:03.49\00:26:07.40 in his halting English, that many of the 00:26:07.43\00:26:09.99 signature rythms Jimmy played on a guitar 00:26:10.02\00:26:12.35 were very often the same rythms that his father 00:26:12.38\00:26:15.13 played in voodoo ceremonies. 00:26:15.16\00:26:17.04 The way Jimmy danced to the rythms of the play 00:26:17.07\00:26:19.77 reminded Rocky of the ceremonial dance, 00:26:19.80\00:26:22.12 to the rythms that his father played during voodoo ceremonies. 00:26:22.15\00:26:26.24 To the gods of thunder and lightning. 00:26:26.27\00:26:28.27 - That's right. One of the things 00:26:28.30\00:26:29.35 that a lot of people don't understand is that, 00:26:29.38\00:26:31.07 in the voodoo religion, the word "syncopation" 00:26:31.10\00:26:33.68 simlpy means the gods and humanity joining together 00:26:33.71\00:26:39.08 in dance. That's what the word 'syncopation' means. 00:26:39.12\00:26:42.60 And, as we think about what we see today, 00:26:42.63\00:26:45.27 as Christians we need to be aware that what 00:26:45.30\00:26:50.17 we are up against is the beast from the abyss. 00:26:50.20\00:26:53.14 He is rising up through evolution, 00:26:53.17\00:26:56.10 through humanism, through drama, 00:26:56.13\00:26:59.33 through sexual perversion and now, we see, 00:26:59.37\00:27:02.29 even through music he is trying to bring 00:27:02.32\00:27:05.78 the world down into the abyss. 00:27:05.81\00:27:07.65 - And into the church, because many of the contemporary 00:27:07.68\00:27:11.11 christian music that we hear today has the same rythm 00:27:11.14\00:27:14.20 and the same beat that you hear in the worldly music 00:27:14.23\00:27:17.45 if you turn on your radio station. 00:27:17.48\00:27:19.45 And here it is, that beat and rythm came 00:27:19.48\00:27:22.15 from the voodoo religion and the drums that they 00:27:22.18\00:27:26.18 were playing to bring out those gods. 00:27:26.21\00:27:28.35 - We want to encourage our viewers to take this 00:27:28.38\00:27:31.88 seriously. You mention the word 'voodoo' 00:27:31.91\00:27:34.38 and people laugh: 'Ha, ha, ha, you don't 00:27:34.41\00:27:35.60 really believe in that stuff, do you?" 00:27:35.63\00:27:37.40 It's a real religion. It is, in reality able to 00:27:37.43\00:27:41.86 disguise itself under many coverings, 00:27:41.89\00:27:45.09 and we want to encourage our viewers who are struggling 00:27:45.12\00:27:47.92 with this very issue, to open the Word of God, 00:27:47.95\00:27:50.76 to research this, to study it and see for themselves 00:27:50.79\00:27:55.15 if what we're saying is not true. 00:27:55.18\00:27:57.24 - Well, unfortunately we're all out of time. 00:27:57.27\00:28:00.07 Until next time, God bless. 00:28:00.10\00:28:03.02
