Hello, you have reached the final program of Body Battles 00:00:27.72\00:00:32.09 this is Part 8 and we've been through seven programs 00:00:32.13\00:00:34.80 as we talked about on the screen here how important it is that 00:00:34.83\00:00:38.83 we protect our health and we avoid dying early. 00:00:38.87\00:00:41.80 Some people think well, my time comes, that's it, 00:00:41.84\00:00:46.17 I'm going to die when I die. 00:00:46.21\00:00:48.08 But the Bible actually tells us something very interesting 00:00:48.11\00:00:51.25 in Ecclesiastes Chapter 7, it says, it's talking about 00:00:51.28\00:00:55.18 how...In verse 16, Why destroy yourself. 00:00:55.22\00:00:57.55 Verse 17 says Don't be foolish, why die before your time? 00:00:57.59\00:01:03.22 So, we could die before our time because of being foolish 00:01:03.26\00:01:08.23 and not following good habits. So Attitude of Gratitude. 00:02:22.24\00:02:25.21 You mentioned, I said what Bible verse do you want to 00:02:25.24\00:02:28.64 focus on for this program? and you directed me to 00:02:28.68\00:02:33.11 Proverbs chapter 17:22. 00:02:33.15\00:02:36.02 The Bible says, A merry heart does good like a medicine: 00:02:36.15\00:02:41.39 It's medicinal and helps in healing. And the rest of the 00:02:41.42\00:02:45.19 verse says: but a broken spirit dries the bones. 00:02:45.23\00:02:49.53 So let's talk about that. 00:02:49.56\00:02:51.90 Yes, the average person reading that would say well there's 00:02:51.93\00:02:57.44 no science there, that's just a nice thing that appears 00:02:57.47\00:03:00.98 in the Bible. An ancient book. Hold on, hold on, 00:03:01.01\00:03:03.98 turns out there is a lot of science behind that statement. 00:03:04.01\00:03:07.22 That a merry heart does good like a medicine, particularly 00:03:07.25\00:03:12.05 that merry heart's influence on the soldiers within the body 00:03:12.09\00:03:18.96 that we call the immune system. We're talking about body battles 00:03:18.99\00:03:22.36 and it turns out that a merry heart is reinforcement 00:03:22.40\00:03:27.27 for the troops that are defending the body, 00:03:27.30\00:03:31.87 the immune system. So we're going to look at that 00:03:31.91\00:03:34.98 a little bit today. Okay. 00:03:35.01\00:03:36.34 But this topic that we are on, draws heavily from the Bible 00:03:36.38\00:03:41.05 and from a book that was actually published about 1903 00:03:41.08\00:03:45.25 called "Ministry of Healing" and there is a lot of wisdom 00:03:45.29\00:03:50.63 in that book because it quotes heavily from the Bible also. 00:03:50.66\00:03:55.10 But it makes a statement, it says "pure air, sunlight, 00:03:55.13\00:03:58.73 abstemious which is a 19th century word for self-control 00:03:58.77\00:04:05.67 Staying away from things like that. Exercise, proper diet, 00:04:05.71\00:04:09.31 the use of water, trust in divine power, it says, 00:04:09.34\00:04:11.85 these are the true remedies. 00:04:11.88\00:04:13.55 Now you only need a remedy if something is wrong, right? 00:04:13.58\00:04:16.95 In other words, these are the therapeutic agencies that God 00:04:16.99\00:04:21.56 has provided for us. When we make a change in our diets, 00:04:21.59\00:04:25.19 when we breathe fresh air instead of cigarette smoke 00:04:25.23\00:04:28.46 and things like that. 00:04:28.50\00:04:29.83 We do wonderful things and they are therapeutic 00:04:29.86\00:04:33.40 but in that same boat, there's another statement and 00:04:33.44\00:04:36.44 that statement says: "A merry rejoicing heart doeth good 00:04:36.47\00:04:42.71 like a medicine." Now the author is quoting from Proverbs 17:22 00:04:42.74\00:04:46.58 that you just read. And then she adds gratitude, rejoicing, 00:04:46.61\00:04:51.82 benevolence, trust in God's love and care, 00:04:51.85\00:04:56.62 these are health's greatest safeguard...Now remember 00:04:56.66\00:05:01.76 in the former statement, it says these are the true remedies, 00:05:01.80\00:05:05.17 but in this statement it says, the greatest safeguard. 00:05:05.20\00:05:08.80 So what we are going to explore is, how is it that gratitude 00:05:08.84\00:05:13.01 rejoicing and all those things can be such a safeguard? 00:05:13.04\00:05:16.58 One of the ways that this has been demonstrated is by the 00:05:16.61\00:05:23.35 experience of a man that published a book back in the 00:05:23.39\00:05:27.09 eighty's, his name was Norman Cousins and he wrote a book 00:05:27.12\00:05:30.43 called "Anatomy of an illness." And he tells the story of how 00:05:30.46\00:05:35.06 he was in Russia, I think he was in Leningrad and he 00:05:35.10\00:05:38.63 came down with a rare collagen disease that they didn't 00:05:38.67\00:05:42.90 give him very much hope, for. 00:05:42.94\00:05:44.27 They were pretty sure that he would not recover 00:05:44.31\00:05:48.44 he was admitted to the hospital, he flew from Leningrad to 00:05:48.48\00:05:51.25 New York, admitted to the hospital, came down with this 00:05:51.28\00:05:54.12 problem and in the hospital he was getting more and more 00:05:54.15\00:05:58.89 depressed every day and he said to his doctor, 00:05:58.92\00:06:00.89 you know what, I just don't like what is happening to me 00:06:00.92\00:06:03.56 here, I'm just getting down and down. 00:06:03.59\00:06:05.39 Can you bring me some videos or something that will help me 00:06:05.43\00:06:08.23 lift my spirits here a little bit? 00:06:08.26\00:06:09.66 And so the doctor brought him in some videos, 00:06:09.70\00:06:14.14 I think it may have been Candid Camera or something 00:06:14.17\00:06:17.77 like that from the '70s or whatever it was 00:06:17.81\00:06:20.84 and so he began to watch those daily and he makes a statement 00:06:20.88\00:06:28.12 that I want to read to you, this is a very interesting 00:06:28.15\00:06:30.55 statement and it says this. 00:06:30.59\00:06:31.99 I made the joyous discovery that 10 minutes of genuine 00:06:32.02\00:06:37.26 belly laughter had an anesthetic effect and would give me 00:06:37.29\00:06:42.36 at least two hours of pain-free sleep, because he was in a lot 00:06:42.40\00:06:46.57 of pain and he couldn't sleep. 00:06:46.60\00:06:48.37 Ten minutes of belly laughter gives him two hours of sleep, 00:06:48.40\00:06:54.51 restful sleep, and so the other thing that they began to notice 00:06:54.54\00:06:59.28 is that each time that he would do one of these 00:06:59.31\00:07:02.82 laughter sessions, that his SED rate would drop. 00:07:02.85\00:07:06.12 They would measure it before the laughter session 00:07:06.15\00:07:08.72 and after because they noticed that something was happening, 00:07:08.76\00:07:12.06 they didn't know quite what. But looking at the SED rate 00:07:12.09\00:07:14.66 which is an indication of how sick you are. 00:07:14.70\00:07:16.93 The SED rate, every time the laughing session happened 00:07:16.97\00:07:20.94 would go down by five points, we thought wow, 00:07:20.97\00:07:23.54 that's interesting. 00:07:23.57\00:07:24.91 And then, they did something else that was a little 00:07:24.94\00:07:29.24 different, they administered vitamin D, quite a bit 10 grams 00:07:29.28\00:07:33.08 actually, and that time the SED rate dropped nine points 00:07:33.11\00:07:36.32 and so he was now starting to sleep better... 00:07:36.35\00:07:41.19 Did you say vitamin D or vitamin C. Vitamin C. 00:07:41.22\00:07:43.43 I think you said vitamin D. 00:07:43.46\00:07:44.79 Did I say D? I stand corrected. 00:07:44.83\00:07:47.76 Vitamin C. His sleep was improving in quality 00:07:47.80\00:07:51.83 the fever was coming down, and so, he was on his way 00:07:51.87\00:07:57.31 to recovery. Just those two simple things. 00:07:57.34\00:08:00.14 Laughter and some vitamin C. So we know that these simple 00:08:00.18\00:08:07.28 things can have an enormous effect on our health and on our 00:08:07.32\00:08:11.45 immune system in particular. 00:08:11.49\00:08:13.02 There is actually research from Loma Linda University 00:08:13.05\00:08:18.46 on the effects of mirthful laughter is what Dr. Cannarella 00:08:18.49\00:08:22.93 calls it. When we laugh, the brain releases endorphins 00:08:22.96\00:08:29.54 which are sort of like feel good hormones, you feel good. 00:08:29.57\00:08:33.27 Happy hormones. There very similar to morphine actually 00:08:33.34\00:08:37.18 and the brain releases very small amounts, 00:08:37.21\00:08:40.58 the Creator knows just how much to release, right? 00:08:40.62\00:08:42.78 and we feel good, we feel happy to be alive when the endorphins 00:08:42.82\00:08:48.82 are released. Endorphins not only in response to laughter 00:08:48.86\00:08:52.89 but guess what? When you get out there and you're physically 00:08:52.93\00:08:58.33 active, guess what happens, you get a little reward in the 00:08:58.37\00:09:01.67 brain for doing that the endorphins are released. 00:09:01.70\00:09:04.77 And so we can learn from that from these physiological effects 00:09:04.81\00:09:11.28 of physical activity and laughter and things like that. 00:09:11.31\00:09:15.58 that good things are happening in the body. 00:09:15.75\00:09:18.72 But what kinds of good things are happening? 00:09:18.75\00:09:20.99 Well Dr. Cannarella comes to our rescue on this, 00:09:21.02\00:09:23.79 listen to what she says over here I'm going to read a little 00:09:23.83\00:09:28.13 statement. She says, she talks about the beneficial effects 00:09:28.16\00:09:33.74 of mirthful laughter. Now we down here on this level 00:09:33.77\00:09:38.54 we would call that a good belly laugh, right? 00:09:38.57\00:09:40.94 But she refers to that as mirthful laughter, I like that. 00:09:40.98\00:09:45.35 She says, notice, increased activation and proliferation 00:09:45.38\00:09:50.29 of T lymphocytes, let me translate that. 00:09:50.32\00:09:53.62 The T lymphocytes which are responsible for knocking out 00:09:53.66\00:09:57.36 cancer cells. The good soldiers. Those are one of the prime 00:09:57.39\00:10:01.63 defenders, right? Soldiers. The T-cells become more active 00:10:01.66\00:10:06.60 in the presence of laughter and these endorphins 00:10:06.63\00:10:10.04 and they increase in number, proliferation means they 00:10:10.07\00:10:14.41 increase in number, so this is absolutely wonderful. 00:10:14.44\00:10:19.28 It's kind of like if the commanding officer laughs 00:10:19.31\00:10:22.28 then the soldiers multiply and do better. 00:10:22.32\00:10:25.15 Yes, but not only the T- lymphocytes, we have other cells 00:10:25.19\00:10:29.22 in the immune system called natural killer cells. 00:10:29.26\00:10:33.33 Now these are the pit bulls of the immune system 00:10:33.36\00:10:37.43 and they go after those cancer cells and what she noticed 00:10:37.47\00:10:41.90 was that there was increased destruction of tumor cells 00:10:41.94\00:10:46.74 that is cancer cells, by natural killer cells. 00:10:46.78\00:10:50.85 Who knew, laughter produced the endorphins, 00:10:50.88\00:10:54.85 now, how does this actually work? Now it turns out the 00:10:54.88\00:10:58.85 T-cells have endorphin receptors on them, so in other words they 00:10:58.89\00:11:03.63 interact with endorphins. And the first time I heard this 00:11:03.66\00:11:07.13 back in 1982, I went to Loma Linda at a convention there, 00:11:07.16\00:11:10.67 a symposium and I thought wow, T- cells have endorphin 00:11:10.70\00:11:18.04 receptors so when you laugh your T-cells get more active and they 00:11:18.07\00:11:21.51 increase in number, this is absolutely wonderful 00:11:21.54\00:11:24.15 that's Proverbs 17:22, A merry heart does good 00:11:24.18\00:11:28.98 like a medicine, this is therapy. 00:11:29.02\00:11:31.25 I'm sure, a lot of people might be watching this right now 00:11:31.29\00:11:34.59 they might be thinking, there are so many bad things 00:11:34.62\00:11:36.79 in this world, how can I be happy? 00:11:36.83\00:11:38.46 This morning I was on the phone with somebody before 00:11:38.49\00:11:41.10 I came over here and he was talking about the different 00:11:41.13\00:11:44.73 things that are going on in the world and how they're 00:11:45.70\00:11:47.17 really bad and this is coming and this is happening 00:11:47.20\00:11:49.24 and this, this, this. 00:11:49.27\00:11:50.61 And he wanted me to watch a different video 00:11:50.64\00:11:52.74 and I told him, I'm just gonna- I can't watch all these videos 00:11:52.77\00:11:57.25 right now, we're filming today and I'm just going to give it 00:11:57.28\00:12:00.15 to God and I'm just going to trust Him 00:12:00.18\00:12:01.98 and I'm going to be happy. 00:12:02.02\00:12:04.85 I've been through dark days in my life and I've learned 00:12:04.89\00:12:08.32 like you said...the attitude of gratitude. 00:12:08.36\00:12:12.49 And I found that the reason why I can be happy in the midst 00:12:12.53\00:12:18.57 of things that are going on that are bad 00:12:18.60\00:12:21.20 is that I have faith in God, that God is a God of love. 00:12:21.24\00:12:25.07 The Bible tells us 1John 4:8, that God is love and that He 00:12:25.11\00:12:30.15 cares for me. There's another verse in Peter, I think its 00:12:30.18\00:12:32.68 5:8, something like that, or 4:8 it says cast all your cares 00:12:32.71\00:12:36.69 upon Him because He cares for you. Yes! 00:12:36.72\00:12:39.05 So to know that there is a God in heaven who loves us 00:12:39.09\00:12:42.06 who cares for us, who gave His Son to pay the price 00:12:42.09\00:12:44.79 for our sins, who rose from the dead and He can save us 00:12:44.83\00:12:49.00 by His grace. And He has a heavenly home ahead for us, 00:12:49.03\00:12:53.03 when all the dust settles and when Jesus comes back 00:12:53.07\00:12:57.17 and He gets rid of evil... 00:12:57.21\00:12:58.67 It's that big picture that no matter what happens 00:12:58.71\00:13:02.04 no matter how bad things get, God loves me, 00:13:02.08\00:13:04.35 He is going to take care of me if I follow Him 00:13:04.38\00:13:06.48 and choose Him, I have a hope of a fantastic future. 00:13:06.51\00:13:10.45 And so that give me... It puts a smile on my face 00:13:10.49\00:13:13.72 Yeah. It gives me a reason to be happy and the more I smile 00:13:13.76\00:13:18.03 the more I am happy then those endorphins are clicking 00:13:18.06\00:13:21.06 and those soldiers are strengthening and it really does 00:13:21.10\00:13:25.10 like Proverbs says, "A merry heart does good like a 00:13:25.13\00:13:28.37 medicine." And we need to have that faith in God and His love 00:13:28.40\00:13:31.57 in order to have that positive attitude. 00:13:31.61\00:13:33.51 Yes, that's absolutely true, I love to read Revelation 21 00:13:33.54\00:13:37.18 because Revelation 21 is so hopeful. 00:13:37.21\00:13:41.28 "I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven 00:13:41.32\00:13:46.19 and the first earth were passed away and there was no more sea 00:13:46.22\00:13:49.09 and then it says God Himself descends from heaven 00:13:49.12\00:13:52.46 and dwells with us". Right! This is the hope this 00:13:52.49\00:13:56.20 makes you happy, joyful... That's right and 00:13:56.23\00:13:58.17 Revelation 21:4, I've shared this many times in seminars 00:13:58.20\00:14:02.80 it says "There shall be no more death, neither sorrow, 00:14:02.84\00:14:05.84 nor crying, nor pain, for the former thing have 00:14:05.87\00:14:08.91 passed away. And He who sat upon the throne said behold, 00:14:08.94\00:14:12.05 I make all things new," and He said write this down 00:14:12.08\00:14:15.58 for these words are true and faithful. 00:14:15.62\00:14:17.99 Take it to the bank. That's right, take it to the bank. 00:14:18.02\00:14:20.99 It's more certain than the dollar 00:14:21.02\00:14:23.22 or the ground that we walk on. Indeed, indeed. 00:14:23.26\00:14:25.79 Is God's word and His promises. 00:14:25.83\00:14:27.70 I mentioned in the beginning that this conversation that 00:14:27.76\00:14:32.00 we're having today draws heavily from the book 00:14:32.03\00:14:34.90 Ministry of Healing, I was to share one more thing with you 00:14:34.94\00:14:37.17 that to me is priceless and it's a statement that talks about 00:14:37.21\00:14:44.15 the most important thing that we can do for our health... 00:14:44.18\00:14:48.75 I was going in the wrong direction there... 00:14:48.78\00:14:51.52 Let me find it...Here's what it says I think its page 251 00:14:51.55\00:14:56.93 of the book Ministry of Healing. I've read that book, 00:14:56.96\00:14:58.93 that is some wonderful book. Fantastic. 00:14:58.96\00:15:01.70 I went through some real dark struggles, everybody 00:15:01.73\00:15:04.97 goes through struggles... I remember reading 00:15:05.00\00:15:06.87 this chapter is called Mind Cure. 00:15:06.90\00:15:09.10 Mind Cure, that's where this comes from. 00:15:09.14\00:15:10.54 I have read that chapter over and over again and it really... 00:15:10.57\00:15:13.88 It helped me put a smile on my face. 00:15:13.91\00:15:16.38 That's where this whole topic came from was that chapter 00:15:16.41\00:15:21.12 called "Mind Cure" and it is wonderful. 00:15:21.15\00:15:24.89 Here's what it says: Page 251 of the book Ministry of Healing. 00:15:24.92\00:15:30.73 I hope everybody who is watching this goes to wherever you get 00:15:30.76\00:15:35.70 your books and orders Ministry of Healing. 00:15:35.73\00:15:39.13 The order on Amazon, I don't if Whitehorse Media, 00:15:39.17\00:15:42.17 I don't remember whether that's in our store or not 00:15:42.20\00:15:45.17 but if it's not, they can go to Amazon.com and just 00:15:45.21\00:15:47.84 type in Ministry of Healing by Ellen G White 00:15:47.88\00:15:50.31 and they can order that book. 00:15:50.35\00:15:51.75 I bet you it will be in the store after today. 00:15:51.78\00:15:53.68 Here's what it says: 00:15:53.72\00:15:56.38 Nothing. "Nothing tends more to promote health, 00:16:01.12\00:16:05.49 of body and of soul than does a spirit of gratitude 00:16:05.53\00:16:11.37 and praise." 00:16:11.40\00:16:12.73 Nothing, not even your diet, not even physical activity. 00:16:12.77\00:16:16.97 Or exercise. Or those other things that we talked about. 00:16:17.01\00:16:21.28 In other words, this is the pinnacle, it's not that those 00:16:21.31\00:16:24.25 things are not important, they are very important. 00:16:24.28\00:16:26.11 This is the pinnacle of what we can do to protect our health. 00:16:26.15\00:16:30.35 Nothing tends more to promote health of body and soul 00:16:30.39\00:16:35.26 then does a spirit of gratitude and praise. 00:16:35.29\00:16:39.29 This is why the Apostle Paul says Rejoice in the Lord 00:16:39.33\00:16:43.23 when everything is going well. Is that what he says? 00:16:43.26\00:16:46.20 No, he says Rejoice in the Lord Always. 00:16:46.23\00:16:49.40 Even when things are going bad we are to rejoice in the Lord. 00:16:49.44\00:16:53.74 Now here is the rest of the statement. 00:16:53.78\00:16:55.48 It is a positive duty to resist melancholy, discontented 00:16:55.51\00:17:03.08 thoughts and feelings, as much a duty as it is to pray. 00:17:03.12\00:17:08.12 Wow! I read that and it made my hair stand on end. 00:17:08.16\00:17:12.49 My hair stands on end anyway but it really stood on end. 00:17:12.53\00:17:15.00 So resist the negative thoughts and be thankful to God 00:17:15.03\00:17:19.83 for His goodness and love no matter what happens 00:17:19.87\00:17:22.50 Trust in God's love and care that is so critical. 00:17:22.54\00:17:27.98 Bring us through whatever comes our way. 00:17:28.01\00:17:31.31 And so this is the kind of thing that we can rely on. 00:17:31.35\00:17:36.75 The other thing that I think is really important for us 00:17:36.79\00:17:40.72 to do is to reach out to others. 00:17:40.76\00:17:42.42 You know, when we are stuck in ourselves and we're just 00:17:42.46\00:17:46.70 thinking about all the negatives, one of the best 00:17:46.73\00:17:50.57 things to do is to say okay, I need to reach out and 00:17:50.60\00:17:55.07 help someone else. Make a phone call, maybe you can't 00:17:55.10\00:17:58.41 go to someone's house, but you can pick up the phone, 00:17:58.44\00:18:01.21 how are you today? 00:18:01.24\00:18:02.98 Encourage them, these are things and guess what happens to your 00:18:03.01\00:18:07.52 spirit when you encourage someone else? 00:18:07.55\00:18:10.19 It lifts up your spirit. Yeah, I read that recently, 00:18:10.22\00:18:12.89 something like if you are helpless, help someone else. 00:18:12.92\00:18:16.09 Yes, absolutely. I think if we stop thinking just about 00:18:16.12\00:18:18.69 ourselves, try to think about somebody else, 00:18:18.73\00:18:20.90 there's lots of people around us that have needs... 00:18:20.93\00:18:23.23 There's plenty of work to do to help encourage other people 00:18:23.26\00:18:26.70 and in lifting up somebody else, we lift up ourselves. 00:18:26.74\00:18:30.61 Yes, and I have been trying over the course of the last 00:18:30.64\00:18:34.34 year or two to follow the advice of Jesus, 00:18:34.38\00:18:38.61 He said something in Matthew six, He said, but seek 00:18:38.65\00:18:42.18 first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these 00:18:42.22\00:18:47.89 things will be added unto you. 00:18:47.92\00:18:49.42 So when I get up in the morning I am anxious to get to my desk 00:18:49.46\00:18:52.49 and start making calls and oh, I've got this to do 00:18:52.53\00:18:55.26 go to Home Depot and fix this and do that and to... 00:18:55.30\00:18:59.07 And very often the Lord has to stop me and say are you 00:18:59.10\00:19:03.71 seeking first the kingdom of God and oh yeah, Lord 00:19:03.74\00:19:06.57 I promise to do this and so I change my attitude and 00:19:06.61\00:19:12.75 now I'm focused... Who can I call, who can I encourage 00:19:12.78\00:19:17.25 today? The other day... this happened to me 00:19:17.29\00:19:20.16 and I made three calls and I can't tell you what a blessing. 00:19:20.19\00:19:26.23 because I was speaking that particular day, the next day, 00:19:26.29\00:19:32.30 and we had a wonderful time together and he stayed 00:19:32.33\00:19:35.10 for our fellowship dinner and I talked to two other people 00:19:35.14\00:19:39.44 and I just felt so good after that the day just sailed along, 00:19:39.47\00:19:45.65 you know, it's just so wonderful. 00:19:45.68\00:19:47.12 That reminds me of my dad, my dad died at 89 00:19:47.15\00:19:50.39 a couple of years ago and his body was falling apart 00:19:50.42\00:19:54.72 and he would tell me, let's make today a kingdom day. 00:19:54.76\00:19:57.33 And he had a list of people that he would call with his 00:19:57.36\00:20:01.73 crippled fingers, he would get on his cell phone and he would 00:20:01.76\00:20:05.67 call people and he would pray with people and he was just 00:20:05.70\00:20:08.67 focused on helping other people. 00:20:08.70\00:20:11.61 And my dad died a happy man. 00:20:11.64\00:20:13.21 The man that was with him when he died, I wasn't actually... 00:20:13.24\00:20:17.65 I was with him many times but not at the moment of death. 00:20:17.68\00:20:20.62 At the moment of death a man that was there told me 00:20:20.65\00:20:24.12 that he grabbed this man's hand and he said halleluiah 00:20:24.15\00:20:28.36 and he died. And that was his last word, halleluiah 00:20:28.39\00:20:33.16 and he died. My dad had a hope of a resurrection, hope in God, 00:20:33.19\00:20:38.03 hope in Jesus, and he lived that life of unselfishness. 00:20:38.07\00:20:42.54 My grandmother was like that. When her mother died 00:20:42.57\00:20:46.81 she said Zion, Zion, what a pretty place, apparently the 00:20:46.88\00:20:53.48 Lord gave her a little look, something you know. 00:20:53.52\00:20:56.18 But people like that are the happiest people on the planet 00:20:56.22\00:21:00.82 they are not focused on self, they look to meet the needs 00:21:00.86\00:21:06.33 of others and what a privilege that is. 00:21:06.36\00:21:09.03 That's the life of Jesus... That's right, and they 00:21:09.06\00:21:11.37 live longer and they're happier. Sometimes people have trouble with 00:22:25.24\00:22:29.71 getting going on the simple things that we've been 00:22:29.74\00:22:34.32 talking about. You know it seems like a mountain to them 00:22:34.38\00:22:38.22 sometimes, it seems simple to you and me but...because 00:22:38.25\00:22:41.62 we've done it, but to people who are just starting 00:22:41.66\00:22:44.59 it seems like a mountain sometimes. 00:22:44.63\00:22:46.13 So my rule is to facilitate change and that's with a 00:22:46.16\00:22:49.86 lifestyle interventionist does. 00:22:49.90\00:22:52.03 So, we were talking before about physical activity, so what I do 00:22:52.07\00:22:55.64 is I say okay, let's get your cell phone out and set a time 00:22:55.67\00:22:58.67 when you're going to take a walk and when you get up 00:22:58.71\00:23:03.55 in the morning. I want you the night before to put 00:23:03.58\00:23:07.62 a glass on the bathroom sink and that glass has water 00:23:07.65\00:23:12.49 from the water cooler, purified water and that glass is to 00:23:12.52\00:23:16.93 remind you that you are to drink that water in the morning 00:23:16.96\00:23:20.73 to thin the blood, so that's what I do. I coach people 00:23:20.76\00:23:23.90 and how to make this happen because if for some people 00:23:23.93\00:23:29.07 they do it for a little while and it's here hit and miss 00:23:29.10\00:23:32.47 and all that and what I do also is I create accountability 00:23:32.51\00:23:36.91 so you need to call me once a week because I want to know 00:23:36.95\00:23:41.05 how you are doing and in the beginning it's every 2 or 3 days 00:23:41.08\00:23:44.45 until you get going on your habits, the proper habits. 00:23:44.49\00:23:48.46 On the refrigerator is a little tracking device and that 00:23:48.49\00:23:55.56 tracking device, you check off, did you walk today? 00:23:55.60\00:23:58.73 did you drink pure water? did you have a positive 00:23:58.77\00:24:02.10 attitude of gratitude? That's one of the little things 00:24:02.14\00:24:04.77 you have to check off. Because it's very important 00:24:04.81\00:24:08.74 that the brain is happy. Because when the brain is happy 00:24:08.78\00:24:13.31 it vanishes depression and you feel good and feel like 00:24:13.35\00:24:16.69 you know what, I'm making progress here, that's great. 00:24:16.72\00:24:19.65 Do you feel good? Now, just quickly, any quick stories 00:24:19.69\00:24:23.09 of anyone that you've coached that has. Oh, I've coached many 00:24:23.12\00:24:26.36 people...A lot of people that I coach I don't even have a 00:24:26.39\00:24:29.43 formal relationship with them. 00:24:29.46\00:24:30.80 I remember once up there in Washougal, Washington 00:24:30.83\00:24:34.07 I was at a little church gathering by the river 00:24:34.10\00:24:38.61 after church fellowship meal/ dinner and somebody I was 00:24:38.64\00:24:45.11 talking to and I learned he was diabetic and he says to me, 00:24:45.15\00:24:48.08 what can I do for my diabetes? 00:24:48.12\00:24:51.75 And so I said to him, well, you need a walking program 00:24:51.79\00:24:54.19 first of all and you need to be eating the Eden diet 00:24:54.22\00:24:59.59 and to drink water and those kinds of things, 00:24:59.63\00:25:02.83 and I said if you walk, and you put these large leg muscles 00:25:02.86\00:25:08.14 to work, it will put out those insulin receptors, 00:25:08.17\00:25:11.44 brand new ones and that will draw that sugar right out of 00:25:11.47\00:25:15.41 your blood and bring down your blood-sugar naturally. 00:25:15.44\00:25:18.41 He said, does that really work? I said well you need to do it. 00:25:18.45\00:25:21.62 Just do it. So, he did it and his high blood sugar went away, 00:25:21.65\00:25:28.69 he's no longer diabetic, in fact I just asked him about 00:25:28.72\00:25:33.80 five weeks ago to put a little testimonial on my website 00:25:33.83\00:25:37.07 his name is Gary, and so Gary did that. 00:25:37.10\00:25:40.44 But somewhere along 3 to 4 months later 00:25:40.47\00:25:44.67 I said how are you doing, are you still walking? 00:25:44.71\00:25:47.34 Well, I'm not quite...I said listen, if you don't get back 00:25:47.38\00:25:52.08 the diabetes is going to come back, you better get going... 00:25:52.11\00:25:54.52 so he did and now he's diabetes free, it's wonderful.
