Steve: Well, good for you... 00:02:07.79\00:02:09.26 I'm sure your wife really likes that. 00:02:09.29\00:02:11.63 Jack: She does. 00:02:11.66\00:02:12.99 Steve: And so, you know, that... that just shows 00:02:13.03\00:02:14.96 you're still very active at 73. 00:02:15.00\00:02:16.50 Jack: It's marital bliss. 00:02:16.53\00:02:18.43 Steve: Marital bliss... that's it. 00:02:18.47\00:02:20.17 That's a good state to be in. 00:02:20.20\00:02:22.07 and, you know, everybody... 00:02:22.10\00:02:24.41 at least I would think most people would like to be 00:02:24.44\00:02:26.68 doing as you're doing at the age of 73, 00:02:26.71\00:02:29.04 so, what you're going to do in this Series is... 00:02:29.08\00:02:31.85 is share with us some of the... some of the secrets 00:02:31.88\00:02:33.72 that you've learned to... to increase your life... 00:02:33.75\00:02:38.12 increased your happiness 00:02:38.15\00:02:39.49 and help you in the... in the battles of life. 00:02:39.52\00:02:41.62 So, tell us just a little bit about yourself... 00:02:41.69\00:02:43.89 I know you mentioned to me that 00:02:43.93\00:02:45.69 you first started giving health talks in 1974. 00:02:45.73\00:02:49.26 So fill in... fill in a few of the gaps there. 00:02:49.30\00:02:52.83 Jack: Yes, when I was converted in 1974, 00:02:52.87\00:02:56.50 I immediately became interested in health. 00:02:56.54\00:03:00.14 Actually, I was interested in health before that 00:03:00.18\00:03:02.54 and that was part of my conversion 00:03:02.61\00:03:04.05 because through healthful living the Lord cleared up my mind 00:03:04.08\00:03:09.28 to perceive spiritual things. 00:03:09.32\00:03:11.15 You know, that frontal lobe of ours is affected by what we do 00:03:11.19\00:03:15.02 and the frontal lobe is where we have reason... 00:03:15.06\00:03:17.89 willpower... reasoning... judgment... 00:03:17.93\00:03:20.46 all those things are there 00:03:20.50\00:03:22.70 and spirituality resides in the frontal lobe 00:03:22.73\00:03:25.50 which was why the Lord, in the book of Revelation 00:03:25.53\00:03:28.20 places a seal on the forehead. 00:03:28.24\00:03:30.87 That's where spirituality resides 00:03:30.91\00:03:33.27 and what we do affects that frontal lobe very, very much. 00:03:33.31\00:03:36.34 Steve: So, the frontal lobe being the front of your brain... 00:03:36.38\00:03:38.01 Jack: The front of the brain, yes. 00:03:38.05\00:03:39.41 Steve: It's the command center. 00:03:39.45\00:03:40.78 Jack: Command Center where we make decisions 00:03:40.82\00:03:42.55 about where we will spend eternity 00:03:42.58\00:03:44.45 and so, I became interested in health. 00:03:44.49\00:03:47.46 My first health program was actually a... 00:03:47.49\00:03:50.43 a five-day plan to stop smoking 00:03:50.46\00:03:51.83 and, back in those days, you know, 00:03:51.86\00:03:54.40 lots of people were interested in stopping smoking... 00:03:54.43\00:03:57.73 smoking cessation... 00:03:57.77\00:04:01.00 and the first... the first lecture I... I attended or... 00:04:01.04\00:04:04.04 or gave... there were 148 people in the audience. 00:04:04.07\00:04:08.11 Today, you know, if you do a stop smoking program, 00:04:08.14\00:04:11.88 you may get three people. 00:04:11.91\00:04:13.48 Steve: Why is that? 00:04:13.52\00:04:14.98 Jack: And reason for that is that... 00:04:15.02\00:04:16.42 just about everybody who really is going to stop smoking 00:04:16.45\00:04:20.69 has already stopped smoking 00:04:20.72\00:04:22.06 and most of the people who are smoking now 00:04:22.09\00:04:25.79 are hardcore basically and... 00:04:25.83\00:04:27.83 and they know that they shouldn't be smoking 00:04:27.86\00:04:29.83 but they smoke anyway. 00:04:29.86\00:04:31.20 So, that's why we don't get very many people anymore 00:04:31.23\00:04:34.70 but that Program was very successful... 00:04:34.74\00:04:37.67 we ran another one at Buffalo General Hospital 00:04:37.71\00:04:42.18 and we had something like maybe a 100 or a 110 00:04:42.24\00:04:45.51 and from there my health career was launched, 00:04:45.55\00:04:48.82 I went back to school later on... 00:04:48.85\00:04:50.82 got a degree in Health Science... 00:04:50.89\00:04:52.79 taught Health Science at Weimar College 00:04:52.82\00:04:58.69 and over the years I've been doing church health programs. 00:04:58.73\00:05:03.26 I have a Program on my website, called reversing Diabesity... 00:05:03.30\00:05:08.34 which is designed to help people to overcome insulin resistance 00:05:08.37\00:05:13.38 which is the... the basis for Type 2 Diabetes. 00:05:13.41\00:05:16.61 So, I've been doing lots of health programs 00:05:16.64\00:05:20.02 and counseling over... over time. 00:05:20.05\00:05:22.05 Jack: And you've been on 3ABN Television... 00:05:22.08\00:05:24.82 3ABN Radio. 00:05:24.85\00:05:26.19 Jack: Starting in 1995, yes I received an invitation 00:05:26.22\00:05:29.09 to come to Three Angels' Broadcasting 00:05:29.12\00:05:30.96 and do some work there 00:05:30.99\00:05:32.33 and that lasted for several years. 00:05:32.36\00:05:35.00 So, I've continued to... to do Health Education work 00:05:35.03\00:05:39.70 in the... over the course of the last 40 to 45 years. 00:05:39.73\00:05:43.61 Steve: So you... you are a Health Educator 00:05:43.64\00:05:46.51 and you also call yourself a Lifestyle Interventionist. 00:05:46.54\00:05:51.15 What exactly does that mean? 00:05:51.18\00:05:52.71 Jack: Well, when people want to make changes 00:05:52.75\00:05:56.75 in their lifestyle habits, 00:05:56.79\00:05:59.45 my role is to counsel them and facilitate and coach them. 00:05:59.49\00:06:04.59 The intervention, of course, is what the person does. 00:06:04.63\00:06:09.66 What I do is coach them to do the intervention 00:06:09.70\00:06:13.13 so that the intervention becomes doable and easier. 00:06:13.17\00:06:17.11 Many people don't really use the resources for instance 00:06:17.14\00:06:21.51 that are available to them. 00:06:21.54\00:06:22.88 They want to start an exercise Program but 00:06:22.91\00:06:24.61 they're not, for instance, using the timer on their cell phones 00:06:24.65\00:06:29.15 to set a time to walk 00:06:29.18\00:06:30.59 because what I've discovered over the years is 00:06:30.62\00:06:32.52 if you don't set a time, 00:06:32.55\00:06:34.79 what will happen is, you will walk on Monday and Tuesday 00:06:34.82\00:06:37.73 and Wednesday and maybe Thursday... 00:06:37.76\00:06:40.23 skip a day and walk two more days and 00:06:40.26\00:06:42.63 by the time you get to three weeks from then, 00:06:42.66\00:06:44.77 you're not walking at all 00:06:44.80\00:06:46.13 because you haven't set a time, it has not become a habit. 00:06:46.17\00:06:49.10 So, the cell phone is useful, so, I... I help people to 00:06:49.14\00:06:52.27 to facilitate the intervention 00:06:52.31\00:06:55.51 and it works when you have somebody who is coaching you 00:06:55.54\00:06:59.45 and helping you 00:06:59.48\00:07:00.82 and troubleshooting what you're doing. 00:07:00.85\00:07:02.18 Steve: So you're a health coach... 00:07:02.22\00:07:03.95 that's teaching... that takes people by the hand 00:07:03.99\00:07:06.89 and helps them step by step to make changes in their lifestyle 00:07:06.92\00:07:11.86 to help them to overcome bad habits... 00:07:11.89\00:07:15.10 you know... the temptations of the body... 00:07:15.13\00:07:17.43 the temptations of the flesh that we all encounter... 00:07:17.47\00:07:22.10 you bring it right down to the... the grassroots level. 00:07:22.14\00:07:24.51 Jack: Practical things they can do to actually make the change 00:07:24.54\00:07:28.04 and to be successful 00:07:28.08\00:07:29.94 because, you know, habits of a lifetime 00:07:29.98\00:07:34.02 everybody knows they're not easy to break 00:07:34.05\00:07:38.05 and you have to substitute something else for those habits. 00:07:38.09\00:07:41.52 There's a wonderful text in the book of Romans that says, 00:07:41.56\00:07:44.13 "Do not be overcome by evil, 00:07:44.16\00:07:46.36 but overcome evil with good. " 00:07:46.39\00:07:48.53 You have to put something good in place of what's not so good 00:07:48.56\00:07:53.44 in order to be successful. 00:07:53.47\00:07:55.07 So, that's what I do. 00:07:55.10\00:07:56.44 Steve: Got it... well, I'm very interested in health as well... 00:07:56.47\00:08:00.01 I'm not quite as old as you are... pushing 62 00:08:00.04\00:08:03.31 but I'm... I'm a jogger... I don't jog very fast 00:08:03.35\00:08:06.58 but I walk and I run and when I travel, 00:08:06.61\00:08:09.68 I try to swim in hotels as much as I can 00:08:09.72\00:08:12.72 and get my laps in the pool 00:08:12.75\00:08:14.19 and I try to eat good food and drink water 00:08:14.22\00:08:16.99 and work out in my yard and a whole host of other things 00:08:17.03\00:08:20.76 and so, this is a topic that is very dear to my heart as well. 00:08:20.80\00:08:24.17 I've been through my... my body battles for many years. 00:08:24.20\00:08:27.67 Jack: It is a battle isn't it? 00:08:27.70\00:08:29.54 Steve: It is... and it's a battle and 00:08:29.60\00:08:31.21 you know, anybody that's watching this knows this so... 00:08:31.24\00:08:34.74 so, we hope that this eight parts... this Series will... 00:08:34.78\00:08:39.61 will help people to learn truths that are practical 00:08:39.65\00:08:44.49 and that will help them in their lives 00:08:44.52\00:08:46.19 and then to also point them to the source of strength 00:08:46.22\00:08:50.13 where they can, you know, find that power 00:08:50.19\00:08:54.03 to help themselves to make good decisions. 00:08:54.10\00:08:57.87 Jack: Yes, because God our Creator... as you read before 00:08:57.90\00:09:01.24 intends for us to be healthy. 00:09:01.27\00:09:02.87 "Beloved, I wish above all things... 00:09:02.90\00:09:05.24 that you may prosper and be in health 00:09:05.27\00:09:07.58 even as your soul prospers. " 00:09:07.61\00:09:09.81 So, that's a part of His plan for our lives 00:09:09.84\00:09:12.35 for us to be healthy and vibrant and successful. 00:09:12.38\00:09:16.58 Steve: That's right, okay, well, so this first Program... 00:09:16.62\00:09:18.32 we're calling this: Biblical Health Secrets. 00:09:18.35\00:09:20.92 So, this is Number 1: Biblical Health Secrets 00:09:20.96\00:09:23.76 and Jack, you've got a number of slides there... 00:09:23.79\00:09:26.19 which... some of them we'll be putting on the screen 00:09:26.23\00:09:29.00 for people to... to look at 00:09:29.03\00:09:30.43 and so, why don't we just start... 00:09:30.47\00:09:32.50 where you want to go in this first program and just, 00:09:32.53\00:09:37.67 you know, take us through the different points 00:09:37.71\00:09:39.44 that you want to make... 00:09:39.47\00:09:40.81 that you want those who are watching to understand. 00:09:40.84\00:09:43.91 Jack: Sure... well... guess where we start... 00:09:43.95\00:09:46.78 we start in the beginning. 00:09:46.82\00:09:48.48 Steve: Yes. 00:09:48.52\00:09:49.85 Jack: And in the beginning we find in Genesis chapter 1 00:09:49.88\00:09:52.92 verse 26, it says, 00:09:52.95\00:09:54.29 "Then God said, 'Let us make man in Our image 00:09:54.32\00:09:56.49 and according to Our likeness, 00:09:56.52\00:09:59.36 let him have dominion over the creation... " basically. 00:09:59.39\00:10:02.96 And then it says in verse 29, 00:10:03.03\00:10:05.53 it says, "And God said, 00:10:05.57\00:10:09.30 'I have given you every herb that yields seed... '" 00:10:09.34\00:10:13.27 keep in mind that word: seed... 00:10:13.31\00:10:15.24 which is on the face of all the earth, 00:10:15.28\00:10:17.21 and every tree whose fruit yields seed; 00:10:17.25\00:10:19.41 to you it shall be for food. " 00:10:19.45\00:10:22.28 Now, right there, in the beginning 00:10:22.32\00:10:25.02 God gave to man the fuel source... if you will 00:10:25.05\00:10:29.42 for the human body. 00:10:29.46\00:10:30.83 And the fuel source is what I'd like to call: The Eden Diet, 00:10:30.86\00:10:36.53 today we call it the plant-based diet 00:10:36.56\00:10:38.73 but it is a diet... 00:10:38.77\00:10:41.27 don't forget that before the problem of sin entered, 00:10:41.30\00:10:44.31 man was not permitted to kill an animal. 00:10:44.34\00:10:46.71 So, this is the ideal... 00:10:46.74\00:10:48.41 this is the sinless diet if you will 00:10:48.44\00:10:51.65 before sin entered 00:10:51.68\00:10:53.62 and it turns out that all of the research today shows us 00:10:53.65\00:10:57.92 that the plant-based diet... the Eden diet... 00:10:57.95\00:11:00.76 is the diet that will reverse heart disease... 00:11:00.79\00:11:04.03 it will help to reverse hypertension and diabetes 00:11:04.06\00:11:08.26 and most of the chronic diseases 00:11:08.30\00:11:10.93 that we face today. 00:11:10.97\00:11:12.40 Cancer, for instance, responds to that plant-based diet... 00:11:12.43\00:11:17.74 Eden Diet... 00:11:17.77\00:11:19.34 and so, that fuel source is critical for us to understand 00:11:19.37\00:11:24.58 that this is how the Creator who wants us to be healthy 00:11:24.61\00:11:28.38 has advised us to do. 00:11:28.42\00:11:30.62 You know, we all have cars 00:11:30.65\00:11:32.79 but if you're driving just a regular gasoline car, 00:11:32.82\00:11:35.89 you're not going to go down to this Station 00:11:35.92\00:11:37.69 and put some diesel in it... 00:11:37.73\00:11:39.06 that would be very foolish. 00:11:39.09\00:11:40.43 You would have a car that wouldn't run right. 00:11:40.46\00:11:43.06 I'm afraid that many of us are putting diesel fuel in 00:11:43.10\00:11:46.27 and that diesel fuel is... can be seen when we... 00:11:46.30\00:11:50.54 we eat the refined carbohydrates... 00:11:50.57\00:11:52.91 when we... when we use a lot of animal products 00:11:52.94\00:11:55.58 and so on... 00:11:55.61\00:11:56.95 that essentially is diesel fuel 00:11:56.98\00:11:59.71 but it's not what the Creator intended in the beginning. 00:11:59.75\00:12:02.55 So, that diet is critical to us for our... 00:12:02.58\00:12:06.22 our prosperity and our health. 00:12:06.25\00:12:09.42 Steve: So, as far as Biblical health secrets, 00:12:09.46\00:12:11.73 you're taking us first of all back 00:12:11.76\00:12:13.60 to the beginning of the Bible 00:12:13.63\00:12:15.76 and... and showing us that we... we've come from God... 00:12:15.80\00:12:19.73 we're here... we didn't evolve... 00:12:19.77\00:12:21.60 we didn't come from monkeys 00:12:21.64\00:12:22.97 which is what many people believe 00:12:23.00\00:12:24.87 but we actually have a... a Creator who made us 00:12:24.91\00:12:28.31 and who has also given us a dietary plan 00:12:28.34\00:12:32.81 in the Garden of Eden 00:12:32.85\00:12:34.68 which really... Science has... has showed... 00:12:34.72\00:12:37.19 research has shown today that it's... 00:12:37.22\00:12:38.89 it's really optimal what's best for the human body. 00:12:38.95\00:12:42.26 Jack: Yes... and if you look at the language that God uses, 00:12:42.32\00:12:45.99 it says, "I'm going to make man in Our image... 00:12:46.03\00:12:48.93 that means... we look like Him 00:12:48.96\00:12:50.73 "and in Our likeness... " 00:12:50.77\00:12:52.63 which means we had His character 00:12:52.67\00:12:54.54 and in order to protect that image... the body... 00:12:54.70\00:12:57.87 and the character... the likeness of God... 00:12:57.91\00:13:00.11 that fuel supply was given 00:13:00.14\00:13:03.24 so that the health of the body would be protected 00:13:03.28\00:13:07.12 and everything we see around us 00:13:07.15\00:13:09.78 in terms of the research that's going on 00:13:09.82\00:13:12.75 points to that original fuel source... 00:13:12.79\00:13:15.66 that original Eden diet as I like to call it. 00:13:15.69\00:13:18.49 Steve: And the reason why only a few people would come to your 00:13:18.53\00:13:22.26 Stop Smoking Seminar these days 00:13:22.30\00:13:25.30 and the reason why we're in such a mess 00:13:25.33\00:13:29.17 that this world is in 00:13:29.20\00:13:31.11 with health problems and all the things that you mentioned... 00:13:31.14\00:13:35.14 Diabetes... Cancer... Heart Disease... etc... 00:13:35.18\00:13:38.01 is because we live in a fallen world... 00:13:38.05\00:13:40.58 because our world has fallen away from our Creator 00:13:40.62\00:13:45.05 and His original plan. 00:13:45.09\00:13:46.65 Jack: The blueprint... if you will. 00:13:46.69\00:13:48.39 We... we fail to follow the blueprint... 00:13:48.42\00:13:50.79 it's like building a house and ignoring the blueprint 00:13:50.83\00:13:53.06 and the walls fall down later on and we... 00:13:53.09\00:13:56.16 we didn't follow the codes... the building codes. 00:13:56.20\00:13:59.13 Steve: Yeah, so what we're trying to do is get back... 00:13:59.17\00:14:01.17 we're not going to get completely back 00:14:01.20\00:14:03.04 because in the bodies that we have now... 00:14:03.07\00:14:04.87 we have to wait until the... 00:14:04.91\00:14:06.37 the big day comes in the future 00:14:06.41\00:14:07.91 when God gives us new bodies 00:14:07.94\00:14:09.38 but until... until that time comes, 00:14:09.41\00:14:11.61 there's a lot of things we can do in the midst of the battles 00:14:11.65\00:14:14.28 that we're in to protect ourselves 00:14:14.32\00:14:16.25 and to avoid dying early and to live longer... 00:14:16.28\00:14:19.79 to be healthier... to be happier 00:14:19.82\00:14:21.89 and that's... that's why you're here 00:14:21.92\00:14:23.99 to talk about these things. 00:14:24.03\00:14:25.36 Jack: Yeah... to facilitate winning that battle. 00:14:25.39\00:14:27.20 Steve: Yeah, that's right... winning that battle so... 00:14:27.23\00:14:28.56 so... all right... what's next on your list? 00:14:28.60\00:14:33.00 Created for God's glory... 00:14:33.03\00:14:34.97 you mentioned that to me that... 00:14:35.00\00:14:36.47 that part of the battle has to do with the restoration of... 00:14:36.50\00:14:42.58 of the basic truth that we're here to reveal God's character 00:14:42.61\00:14:48.65 in our lives. Jack: And glory... 00:14:48.68\00:14:50.49 the Bible doesn't use the word "character" 00:14:50.52\00:14:53.05 but it does use the word "glory. " 00:14:53.09\00:14:55.42 When Moses asked to see God's glory, 00:14:55.46\00:14:57.76 God described Himself in terms of his character... merciful... 00:14:57.79\00:15:01.06 kind... loving... forgiving... 00:15:01.10\00:15:02.50 you know... all of that. 00:15:02.53\00:15:04.20 So, glory is a character word 00:15:04.23\00:15:05.87 and the Prophet Isaiah who is often referred to as 00:15:06.13\00:15:10.97 as the gospel prophet 00:15:11.01\00:15:12.34 said something in chapter 43 that is very, very significant. 00:15:12.37\00:15:16.81 It's actually a quotation from the Creator Himself. 00:15:16.85\00:15:21.65 He says, "bring my sons from afar, 00:15:21.68\00:15:25.19 and My daughters from the ends of the earth... 00:15:25.22\00:15:29.02 Everyone who is called by My name, 00:15:29.06\00:15:33.26 whom I have created for My glory... " 00:15:33.29\00:15:37.50 in other words 00:15:37.53\00:15:39.00 this likeness of God that we talked about... 00:15:39.03\00:15:42.34 this... this likeness to Him 00:15:42.37\00:15:45.11 in terms of His love and mercy and compassion 00:15:45.14\00:15:49.61 and all those things, 00:15:49.64\00:15:51.18 we were created for that... to reflect that character. 00:15:51.21\00:15:55.55 I have formed him... yes, I have made him 00:15:55.58\00:15:58.35 and it's no... it's no wonder that this original purpose 00:15:58.39\00:16:03.83 in man's creation, 00:16:03.86\00:16:05.19 is also reflected in the last book of the Bible 00:16:05.23\00:16:08.50 and that is Revelation where it says, 00:16:08.53\00:16:11.73 "Fear God and give glory to Him. Genesis 00:17:30.81\00:17:33.35 and notice what it says in... 00:17:33.42\00:17:36.15 chapter 3 and verses 18 and 19, 00:17:36.18\00:17:38.85 now, this is after the sin problem enters 00:17:38.89\00:17:41.62 and the Lord says to Adam, 00:17:41.66\00:17:44.63 "Cursed is the ground for your sake; 00:17:44.69\00:17:46.90 in toil you shall eat of it... " 00:17:46.93\00:17:49.70 so, He introduces work there in a new way... 00:17:49.73\00:17:53.64 "all the days of your life. 00:17:53.67\00:17:55.34 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, 00:17:55.37\00:17:58.97 and you shall eat the herb of the field. " 00:17:59.01\00:18:02.34 Now, that's a little bit of a nuance... a change in the diet, 00:18:02.38\00:18:05.75 the... the green plants... broccoli is green. 00:18:05.78\00:18:09.32 We consume the plant 00:18:09.35\00:18:10.99 whereas before we were consuming... 00:18:11.02\00:18:12.62 consuming the fruit of the plant 00:18:12.65\00:18:14.19 but now we're consuming plants itself 00:18:14.26\00:18:17.39 and broccoli it turns out is very important for 00:18:17.43\00:18:22.06 fixing the disease problem so we... 00:18:22.13\00:18:24.97 we have a change in the diet 00:18:25.00\00:18:26.70 but now we come to this balance concept. 00:18:26.74\00:18:29.40 The Lord says to Adam, 00:18:29.44\00:18:31.34 "In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread 00:18:31.37\00:18:35.34 till you return to the ground... 00:18:35.38\00:18:36.71 Now, I read that for years and I didn't quite understand 00:18:36.75\00:18:40.85 but as I studied physiology... it began to dawn on me 00:18:40.88\00:18:44.92 that what we're really talking about here are two concepts: 00:18:44.95\00:18:47.72 energy input... which is eating 00:18:47.76\00:18:49.96 and energy output... which is the sweat of your brow 00:18:49.99\00:18:53.76 and what's really being communicated here... 00:18:53.80\00:18:56.90 at least one of the things that's being communicated 00:18:56.93\00:18:58.93 is that energy input... eating 00:18:58.97\00:19:01.70 must be balanced by energy output which is perspiration 00:19:01.74\00:19:06.71 or working... right? 00:19:06.74\00:19:08.08 Those two things have to be balanced 00:19:08.14\00:19:10.85 and if they are not balanced, 00:19:10.88\00:19:12.48 what happens is things like insulin resistance 00:19:12.51\00:19:18.02 in the human body 00:19:18.05\00:19:19.39 where the muscles are not being used 00:19:19.42\00:19:22.82 and so, the insulin receptors disappear on the cell... 00:19:22.86\00:19:27.26 the blood sugar gradually begins to rise 00:19:27.30\00:19:30.63 and the person becomes insulin resistant... 00:19:30.67\00:19:33.97 and then pre-Diabetic 00:19:34.00\00:19:35.84 and then finally, the blood sugar gets to a 126 00:19:35.87\00:19:38.57 and the doctor says, "Oh, you're Diabetic. " 00:19:38.61\00:19:41.38 Well, they were working on that all those years 00:19:41.41\00:19:44.91 when they were in... in those various phases 00:19:44.95\00:19:48.42 of insulin resistance. 00:19:48.45\00:19:49.78 When we don't have enough physical activity 00:19:49.82\00:19:52.59 and we're just putting in energy all the time... 00:19:52.62\00:19:54.72 Steve: In the form of food. Jack: In the form of food... 00:19:54.76\00:19:56.93 Steve: And a lot of it is not even healthy food. 00:19:56.96\00:19:59.16 It's all kinds of food. 00:19:59.19\00:20:00.53 Jack: Yeah... the refined carbohydrates... 00:20:00.56\00:20:02.43 you know, the high fructose corn syrup drinks... 00:20:02.46\00:20:04.73 that do so much to... 00:20:04.77\00:20:06.67 to create high blood pressure... 00:20:06.74\00:20:08.90 Uric acid blocks the production of Nitric Oxide 00:20:08.97\00:20:11.67 and so, your blood pressure rises over time. 00:20:11.71\00:20:14.38 All those things are detrimental to the human body 00:20:14.41\00:20:19.88 when we just taken in energy 00:20:19.91\00:20:21.25 and especially refined carbohydrates 00:20:21.28\00:20:23.42 and we're not being physically active. 00:20:23.45\00:20:25.49 So, that concept of the balance of energy is 00:20:25.52\00:20:30.53 really critical in maintaining human health. 00:20:30.56\00:20:33.16 Steve: So, when we take too much in 00:20:33.19\00:20:34.96 and we're not, you know, walking or exercising 00:20:35.00\00:20:38.30 or doing anything, 00:20:38.33\00:20:39.73 then we're... we're going to have problems. 00:20:39.77\00:20:41.54 Jack: Yes. 00:20:41.57\00:20:42.90 Steve: We're losing the body battle. 00:20:42.94\00:20:44.27 Jack: And insulin resistance is one of the primary things 00:20:44.31\00:20:47.41 that happens when we are not physically active 00:20:47.44\00:20:50.51 and we are just taking in energy 00:20:50.55\00:20:52.81 and not balancing it with energy output. 00:20:52.88\00:20:54.68 Steve: Yeah, I thought that was very insightful, 00:20:54.72\00:20:56.75 I've read this verse many times. 00:20:56.79\00:20:58.29 "In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread... " 00:22:36.42\00:22:38.45 it doesn't say the government's bread, by the way, 00:22:38.49\00:22:40.89 it says, "your bread, 00:22:40.92\00:22:42.32 and that you bring to your house the poor 00:22:42.36\00:22:44.69 who are cast out; 00:22:44.73\00:22:46.09 when you see the naked, 00:22:46.13\00:22:47.46 that you cover him and not hide yourself 00:22:47.50\00:22:49.03 from your own flesh? 00:22:49.06\00:22:50.73 Then your light shall break forth like the morning... " 00:22:50.77\00:22:54.77 that's banishment of darkness and depression... 00:22:54.80\00:22:58.01 and notice what it says next, 00:22:58.04\00:22:59.67 "your healing shall spring forth speedily... " 00:22:59.71\00:23:04.31 Apparently, God has made it a rule of health 00:23:04.35\00:23:08.92 that when you disturb yourself and come out of your... 00:23:08.95\00:23:13.46 your... your zone and you help others... 00:23:13.49\00:23:16.96 that there is a blessing upon the giver. 00:23:16.99\00:23:20.46 In fact, Jesus said it best, 00:23:20.50\00:23:22.73 he said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive. " 00:23:22.76\00:23:27.37 The recipient of the gift gets a blessing to be sure 00:23:27.44\00:23:32.11 but God has reserved the larger blessing for the giver 00:23:32.14\00:23:36.78 and that is something that people need to realize 00:23:36.85\00:23:40.32 that benevolence... 00:23:40.35\00:23:41.68 that getting out of your comfort zone 00:23:41.72\00:23:43.69 and doing something for others... 00:23:43.72\00:23:45.79 because of your compassion and love for them... 00:23:45.82\00:23:49.59 that is a blessing to you 00:23:49.62\00:23:51.93 and it turns out that your health is connected 00:23:51.99\00:23:54.53 because it says, "Your health will spring forth speedily. " 00:23:54.56\00:23:58.43 It even goes further... 00:23:58.47\00:23:59.97 It says, "Your righteousness shall go before you 00:24:00.00\00:24:02.70 and the... " notice the next word... 00:24:02.77\00:24:05.24 "the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. " 00:24:05.27\00:24:09.34 Nobody is going to blindside you from behind 00:24:09.38\00:24:12.88 because God promises to protect you from behind 00:24:12.91\00:24:16.35 if you are benevolent 00:24:16.38\00:24:18.19 and He promises to heal you if you are benevolent. 00:24:18.22\00:24:22.16 In other words, it is a consequence 00:24:22.19\00:24:24.09 of your reaching out to others 00:24:24.13\00:24:27.36 to satisfy their needs. 00:24:27.40\00:24:29.50 So, this is a wonderful principle 00:24:29.53\00:24:33.20 that everyone should be aware of 00:24:33.23\00:24:34.57 that benevolence, in fact, is connected to our health. 00:24:34.60\00:24:37.77 Steve: Hmmm... hmmm... 00:24:37.81\00:24:39.14 so sitting around is not good for us 00:24:39.17\00:24:41.04 when we don't... don't do something. 00:24:41.08\00:24:42.98 Did you mention some time ago, 00:24:43.01\00:24:44.35 because we were talking outside this Program... 00:24:44.38\00:24:46.01 we talked about sitting... what was that line you used? 00:24:46.05\00:24:50.05 Jack: Yes, that sitting is the new smoking... 00:24:50.09\00:24:52.12 we're going to talk about that. 00:24:52.15\00:24:53.62 Steve: Right, so we need to be not just, you know, eating 00:24:53.66\00:24:57.23 and sitting... 00:24:57.29\00:24:58.63 we need to be active so we'll have that balance 00:24:58.66\00:25:01.66 and then as we are active, 00:25:01.70\00:25:03.20 we need to be involved in not just doing things 00:25:03.23\00:25:06.30 only for ourselves, 00:25:06.33\00:25:08.00 we need to be doing things for others 00:25:08.04\00:25:09.74 which... we need to get out of our self-focus 00:25:09.77\00:25:13.78 and start focusing on helping people around us 00:25:13.81\00:25:17.75 in whatever way we can 00:25:17.81\00:25:19.28 and you're... you're showing us in the Bible that if we do that, 00:25:19.31\00:25:22.32 this will affect our health... 00:25:22.35\00:25:24.45 we'll feel better about ourselves... 00:25:24.49\00:25:26.42 our bodies will work better somehow 00:25:26.45\00:25:28.32 because we're more in harmony with the Creator's plan 00:25:28.36\00:25:31.09 and He's always giving to us all the time. 00:25:31.13\00:25:33.93 Jack: All the time... giving to us 00:25:34.00\00:25:35.96 and it glorifies God... it says that specifically, 00:25:36.00\00:25:38.77 "The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard...
