00:02:37.69\00:02:40.32 That's Proverbs chapter 8, verse 24. 00:02:40.36\00:02:42.82 And in John chapter 15, verse 13, Jesus said, "Greater love 00:02:42.86\00:02:47.36 has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for 00:02:47.40\00:02:50.70 his friends." 00:02:50.73\00:02:52.07 You see, friends, Jesus is both our best friend and our Savior. 00:02:52.10\00:02:57.47 If you'd like to learn more about this great plan of 00:02:57.51\00:03:00.48 redemption, if you perhaps don't know Jesus as your best friend, 00:03:00.51\00:03:04.58 and you'd like to get to know Him more, we have a free gift 00:03:04.61\00:03:07.18 that we'd be happy to send you. 00:03:07.22\00:03:08.85 It's one of our study guides here at "Amazing Facts" and it's 00:03:08.88\00:03:11.19 called "Saved from Certain Death," and all you'll need to 00:03:11.22\00:03:14.49 do in order to receive that is to call the number 800-835-6747. 00:03:14.52\00:03:20.03 That is our free offer line and ask for that study guide. 00:03:20.06\00:03:23.26 It's called "Saved from Certain Death." 00:03:23.30\00:03:26.33 We'll be happy to send it to you here in North America. 00:03:26.37\00:03:28.74 If you're outside of the US, just go to our website at 00:03:28.77\00:03:31.97 AmazingFacts.org and you'll be able to read it there as well. 00:03:32.01\00:03:35.54 And my name is Jean Ross. 00:03:35.58\00:03:37.11 Pastor Doug Batchelor is out this evening, but working the 00:03:37.15\00:03:40.05 phones is Pastor Alden and we are delighted that he's here, 00:03:40.08\00:03:43.39 kind of helping answer Bible questions and working the phones 00:03:43.42\00:03:46.25 for us. 00:03:46.29\00:03:47.62 So welcome, Pastor Alden. 00:03:47.66\00:03:48.96 Alden Ho: Good evening. 00:03:48.99\00:03:50.29 It's exciting to be here. 00:03:50.33\00:03:51.66 Jean: All right, well, thank you for joining us here. 00:03:51.69\00:03:54.00 Why don't we begin with a Word of prayer? 00:03:54.00\00:03:55.73 And then we'll go to our Bible questions. 00:03:55.76\00:03:58.63 Alden: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the opportunity that we 00:03:58.67\00:04:01.24 have to be able to come and answer questions through 00:04:01.27\00:04:04.51 this program. 00:04:04.54\00:04:05.87 We ask for the Holy Spirit's guidance as we maneuver through 00:04:05.91\00:04:08.94 the Bible with all these different questions. 00:04:08.98\00:04:11.05 Continue to lead us, guide us, convict us of the truths 00:04:11.08\00:04:14.32 we hear. 00:04:14.35\00:04:15.68 We pray all these things in Jesus's name, amen. 00:04:15.72\00:04:17.89 Jean: Amen. 00:04:17.92\00:04:19.25 You know, Pastor Alden, it's always exciting to read stories 00:04:19.29\00:04:21.69 and there's a lot of them, we just picked one, but there are 00:04:21.72\00:04:23.83 many stories about animals, particularly dogs and dolphins, 00:04:23.86\00:04:27.40 for some reason, that have saved the lives of people. 00:04:27.46\00:04:30.93 They seem to have this instinct that they can recognize when 00:04:30.97\00:04:34.64 someone's in trouble and they're able to come to their rescue. 00:04:34.67\00:04:37.51 And many of them have, you know, they've risked their own lives 00:04:37.54\00:04:41.68 to save, you know, the life of a human being. 00:04:41.71\00:04:44.28 Well, of course, I think this instinct to save and this 00:04:44.31\00:04:47.28 concern for others is really something that God has placed in 00:04:47.32\00:04:51.49 the heart, not only of man, but of some of the animals it seems, 00:04:51.52\00:04:55.62 and it's a reflection of God's great love for us. 00:04:55.66\00:04:58.43 Alden: Amen. 00:04:58.46\00:04:59.79 Jean: The Bible says, "For God so loved the world that He 00:04:59.83\00:05:01.43 gave--He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in 00:05:01.46\00:05:03.03 Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." 00:05:03.06\00:05:06.00 And as you mentioned at the beginning of the program, we've 00:05:06.03\00:05:08.14 got a free gift that we would love to send people. 00:05:08.17\00:05:10.54 If you're wondering about how you can be saved, or maybe you 00:05:10.57\00:05:13.71 just need to be reminded of the good news of salvation, you want 00:05:13.74\00:05:17.41 to read the study guide. 00:05:17.45\00:05:18.75 It's called "Saved from Certain Death." 00:05:18.78\00:05:20.88 Now, Pastor Alden, I know you've got some phone lines there. 00:05:20.92\00:05:23.52 What number do people call, again, if they want to get the 00:05:23.55\00:05:26.32 free offer? 00:05:26.35\00:05:27.66 Alden: That number is 1-800-835-6747. 00:05:27.69\00:05:31.06 Jean: Very good. Thank you. 00:05:31.09\00:05:32.39 Also, if people want to get it via a digital download, there is 00:05:32.43\00:05:35.33 a text number we have for them. 00:05:35.36\00:05:36.70 Alden: They can text, if they're in the United States or one of 00:05:36.73\00:05:39.30 the territories or Canada, they can text #250. 00:05:39.33\00:05:43.34 And--but if they're outside, then you would have to go to our 00:05:43.37\00:05:46.34 website, which is AmazingFacts.org. 00:05:46.37\00:05:48.31 Jean: Excellent. Thank you very much. 00:05:48.34\00:05:49.68 All right, well, I think we are ready for our Bible questions. 00:05:49.71\00:05:52.35 So, who's our first caller this evening? 00:05:52.38\00:05:53.88 Alden: Our first caller is Brittany and she has a question 00:05:53.92\00:05:57.02 regarding the feast days. 00:05:57.05\00:05:58.79 Jean: Hi, Brittany. 00:05:58.82\00:06:00.19 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:06:00.22\00:06:01.56 You're on the air. 00:06:01.59\00:06:02.82 Brittany: Yeah, my question is, are Christians supposed to keep 00:06:02.86\00:06:07.03 the feast days? 00:06:07.03\00:06:08.80 Jean: All right, are Christians supposed to keep the feasts? 00:06:08.83\00:06:10.87 Well, in the Old Testament, you know, this is a common question 00:06:10.90\00:06:13.20 that people have. 00:06:13.23\00:06:14.47 In the Old Testament, there are four different types of law that 00:06:14.50\00:06:17.17 you can read about in the Old Testament. 00:06:17.21\00:06:18.54 The one is the moral law, that is the Ten Commandments. 00:06:18.57\00:06:21.11 And of course, the Bible tells us that sin is the transgression 00:06:21.14\00:06:24.01 of the law. 00:06:24.05\00:06:25.38 And what's law is that? 00:06:25.41\00:06:26.72 Well, that's the Ten Commandment law. 00:06:26.75\00:06:28.08 The first four have to do with our relationship with God. 00:06:28.12\00:06:30.45 The last six have to do with our relationship to our fellow man. 00:06:30.49\00:06:33.46 But in addition to that law, we call that the moral law, there 00:06:33.49\00:06:36.02 are three other sets of law found in the Old Testament. 00:06:36.06\00:06:39.16 The other one is what we call the civil laws. 00:06:39.19\00:06:41.80 The civil laws were the ones that governed the nation of 00:06:41.83\00:06:44.27 Israel under theocracy, meaning that God was their King and God 00:06:44.30\00:06:48.74 was communicating His will to the people through the 00:06:48.77\00:06:52.11 high priest. 00:06:52.14\00:06:53.44 And that whole system, of course, we don't have a 00:06:53.48\00:06:56.64 theocracy today, but the principles that were laid out 00:06:56.68\00:07:00.08 there, countries that follow those principles, they typically 00:07:00.12\00:07:03.39 are blessed and there is law and order in that country. 00:07:03.42\00:07:06.86 Another set of laws that we see in the Old Testament is what we 00:07:06.89\00:07:09.39 call the health laws. 00:07:09.42\00:07:11.23 And the health laws gave practical principles on how a 00:07:11.26\00:07:14.56 person could be healthy. 00:07:14.60\00:07:16.40 And not only does it talk about what you should eat and what you 00:07:16.43\00:07:18.77 shouldn't eat, but also gave practical principles on washing 00:07:18.80\00:07:22.27 your clothes, staying clean, washing your hands, especially 00:07:22.30\00:07:25.24 if you touch something that is dead, certain animals or certain 00:07:25.27\00:07:29.31 fungi that was even seen in the home or in dishes, how that had 00:07:29.34\00:07:33.05 to be dealt with. 00:07:33.08\00:07:34.42 So there were practical health principles that we read about in 00:07:34.45\00:07:36.92 the Bible. 00:07:36.95\00:07:38.29 Many of those principles we actually follow today. 00:07:38.32\00:07:40.82 But they that--right there in the Word of God. 00:07:40.86\00:07:42.96 Then the next category, the last category of law, is what we call 00:07:42.99\00:07:46.70 the ceremonial laws. 00:07:46.73\00:07:48.20 Now, the ceremonial laws were given to point to Jesus. 00:07:48.23\00:07:51.90 Part of the ceremonial law included the sacrificial system. 00:07:51.93\00:07:55.47 Jesus is the Lamb that takes away the sins of the world. 00:07:55.50\00:07:58.41 That came to an end when Jesus died on the cross. 00:07:58.44\00:08:00.94 In addition to the sacrificial system and the levitical 00:08:00.98\00:08:03.98 priesthood and the sanctuary and its services, there were also 00:08:04.01\00:08:06.92 certain what we call festivals, or feasts, that were connected 00:08:06.95\00:08:11.55 with that ceremonial law that were given to Moses at 00:08:11.59\00:08:14.59 Mount Sinai. 00:08:14.62\00:08:15.92 For example, the Passover. 00:08:15.96\00:08:17.29 The Passover began after the children of Israel left Egypt. 00:08:17.33\00:08:21.00 And they all pointed to Christ or to His ministry or to 00:08:21.03\00:08:24.33 His work. 00:08:24.37\00:08:25.67 Actually, today, we believe, Pastor Alden, that we're living 00:08:25.70\00:08:27.57 in the antitypical Day of Atonement. 00:08:27.60\00:08:29.64 One of those days was the Day of Atonement, or the day of Yom 00:08:29.67\00:08:31.74 Kippur there in the Hebrew, and we believe that the type of that 00:08:31.77\00:08:36.34 has met its antitype and we're living in this special time, the 00:08:36.38\00:08:40.05 cleansing, the judgment that was illustrated in the Bible. 00:08:40.08\00:08:43.12 So we do no longer--no longer do we need to keep the 00:08:43.15\00:08:45.89 specific days. 00:08:45.92\00:08:47.26 But there are principles, I think, relevant in the feast. 00:08:47.29\00:08:49.92 This, of course, is separate from the 7th day Sabbath, which 00:08:49.96\00:08:52.89 is actually part of the moral law. 00:08:52.93\00:08:54.73 It's not part of the ceremonial law. 00:08:54.76\00:08:56.23 All right, thank you, Brittany. 00:08:56.26\00:08:57.57 Alden: You know, years ago, Pastor Joel Cruz wrote a booklet 00:08:57.60\00:09:01.47 and if she would like to ask for it, if you ask for "Feast Days 00:09:01.50\00:09:04.17 in the Sabbath," you can get this free offer and you can call 00:09:04.21\00:09:08.08 1-800-835-6747 for that. 00:09:08.11\00:09:11.48 Jean: All right, thank you. Yes, get the book. 00:09:11.51\00:09:13.28 If you want to learn more about the feast days and how they 00:09:13.31\00:09:15.22 relate to us as Christians today, take a look at that 00:09:15.25\00:09:17.82 book, 800-835-6747. 00:09:17.85\00:09:20.42 And the book is called "Feast Days--" 00:09:20.46\00:09:21.96 Alden: "--And the Sabbath." 00:09:21.99\00:09:23.32 Jean: "Feast Days and Sabbaths." 00:09:23.36\00:09:24.66 All right, excellent. Thank you. 00:09:24.69\00:09:25.99 Alden: We have Larry calling in from Oregon first time and 00:09:26.03\00:09:28.70 Larry's got a question about pride. 00:09:28.73\00:09:30.20 Jean: Hi, Larry, welcome to the program. 00:09:30.23\00:09:32.67 Larry: Good evening, pastors. Jean: Yeah, thanks for calling. 00:09:32.70\00:09:36.14 Larry: Yes, thank you. Got a question on 1 John 2:16. 00:09:36.17\00:09:41.38 "Lust of the flesh and lust of the eyes" is pretty 00:09:41.41\00:09:44.51 self-explanatory, but I'm having a little issue on pride of life, 00:09:44.55\00:09:49.98 in comparing Mark 7:22 with this. 00:09:50.02\00:09:53.39 Where do you cross from an acceptable pride, to a 00:09:53.42\00:09:57.89 sinful pride? 00:09:57.93\00:09:59.39 Jean: All right, very good. 00:09:59.43\00:10:00.76 Well, when it comes to pride in general, typically the word 00:10:00.80\00:10:04.40 "pride" has a negative connotation to it. 00:10:04.43\00:10:06.84 It's usually self-exaltation and we're not to promote ourselves. 00:10:06.87\00:10:11.37 We don't need to try and make ourselves look better 00:10:11.41\00:10:14.71 than others. 00:10:14.74\00:10:16.04 Often, pride is associated with pushing somebody else down to 00:10:16.08\00:10:19.48 try and elevate us higher than them. 00:10:19.51\00:10:21.92 However, value, having a value, recognizing our value, in the 00:10:21.95\00:10:26.19 eyes of God is different. 00:10:26.22\00:10:27.52 God wants us to realize that we are precious in His sight. 00:10:27.56\00:10:30.06 Jesus died to save us. 00:10:30.09\00:10:31.76 So the Christian should have a clear understanding of his 00:10:31.79\00:10:35.16 value, but it's not just his value, it's the value of 00:10:35.20\00:10:38.20 everyone else because Jesus died for the whole world. 00:10:38.23\00:10:40.60 So we are not better than anyone else. 00:10:40.64\00:10:43.04 However, seeing that such a price is being paid for us, we 00:10:43.07\00:10:47.08 ought to want to live a life that brings honor and glory to 00:10:47.11\00:10:49.61 God, in all that we do. 00:10:49.64\00:10:51.21 So, yes, pride is one of those sins. 00:10:51.25\00:10:53.38 You know, that was the sin that really led Lucifer in the 00:10:53.42\00:10:55.68 beginning and the whole rebellion. 00:10:55.72\00:10:57.75 And of course, pride is still a very dangerous thing today. 00:10:57.79\00:11:01.09 It sort of governs our world in areas of entertainment, in 00:11:01.12\00:11:04.99 politics, in sports. 00:11:05.03\00:11:07.00 Pride is often the motivating factor for why people do what 00:11:07.03\00:11:09.66 they do. 00:11:09.70\00:11:11.03 And as a Christian, we need to be careful of that because, you 00:11:11.07\00:11:13.13 know, selfishness or pride, that is the carnal mind. 00:11:13.17\00:11:16.57 That's the carnal heart. 00:11:16.60\00:11:17.94 We say--we want to say, "Lord, make me humble. 00:11:17.97\00:11:19.97 Help me to recognize my value in Your sight, but keep me humble." 00:11:20.01\00:11:23.81 Alden: We've got to remember, it's not about us, it's 00:11:23.85\00:11:26.01 about Him. 00:11:26.05\00:11:27.35 Jean: That's right. 00:11:27.38\00:11:28.72 Alden: So the moment it becomes about us, we're going down. 00:11:28.75\00:11:30.55 Jean: You know, I'm thinking of that verse, Pastor Alden, maybe 00:11:30.59\00:11:32.19 you can look it up, where it says, "Jesus made Himself of no 00:11:32.22\00:11:34.39 reputation, but He humbled Himself and He took upon Himself 00:11:34.42\00:11:37.59 the form of a servant." 00:11:37.63\00:11:39.23 Now, of course, Jesus, one with the Father, gave back the 00:11:39.26\00:11:42.43 Scepter of the universe at His Father's hand, came to this 00:11:42.46\00:11:45.30 sin-polluted planet, humbled Himself. 00:11:45.33\00:11:47.80 He didn't come to the palace of the King. 00:11:47.84\00:11:49.47 He was born in a manger and Jesus came to give an example of 00:11:49.50\00:11:53.27 living a humble life, the King of kings, and to die as an 00:11:53.31\00:11:56.88 atoning sacrifice for us. 00:11:56.91\00:11:58.21 So it's a beautiful illustration of what true humility and 00:11:58.25\00:12:02.28 kindness is. 00:12:02.32\00:12:03.62 All right, who do we have next? 00:12:03.65\00:12:05.39 Alden: We have Shane calling from Arizona and he's got a 00:12:05.42\00:12:08.09 question about Adam and Eve. 00:12:08.12\00:12:09.52 Jean: All right, Shane. 00:12:09.56\00:12:10.86 Welcome to the program. 00:12:10.89\00:12:12.23 Shane: Oh, hi. 00:12:12.26\00:12:15.06 I know that the square symbolizes Adam's rib. 00:12:15.10\00:12:21.27 I know that Adam and Eve manufactured aprons. 00:12:21.30\00:12:27.01 Is Adam and Eve the first introduction of artificial 00:12:27.04\00:12:31.18 synthetic technological light on earth? 00:12:31.21\00:12:35.28 Jean: Okay, well, yeah, that's a good question. 00:12:35.32\00:12:37.55 You know, when it comes to Adam and Eve, you know the story, you 00:12:37.59\00:12:39.42 read it there in Genesis chapter 3 where Adam and Eve had this-- 00:12:39.45\00:12:42.69 God created this beautiful garden, created Adam and Eve. 00:12:42.72\00:12:46.26 God was the one who first performed a surgery. 00:12:46.29\00:12:48.83 The Bible says that God put Adam to sleep and took a rib from 00:12:48.86\00:12:52.00 his side. 00:12:52.03\00:12:53.34 And with the rib, God created Eve and brought Eve to Adam. 00:12:53.37\00:12:56.67 But after they sinned, we find that they went and hid 00:12:56.71\00:13:00.31 themselves from the presence of the Lord and they made 00:13:00.34\00:13:02.61 artificial clothing. 00:13:02.64\00:13:04.31 Now, they might have been clothed, and we think the Bible 00:13:04.35\00:13:06.48 gives us evidence for this. 00:13:06.51\00:13:07.85 They might have been clothed in a garment of light. 00:13:07.88\00:13:10.32 The Bible says that we're created in God's image. 00:13:10.35\00:13:12.75 And Psalms tells us that God covers Himself with light as 00:13:12.79\00:13:16.06 a garment. 00:13:16.09\00:13:17.43 So we believe Adam and Eve were clothed in these beautiful 00:13:17.46\00:13:20.06 garments of light. 00:13:20.10\00:13:21.36 They lost that light after they sinned. 00:13:21.40\00:13:23.53 And then they realized their shame and their nakedness, a 00:13:23.57\00:13:26.23 symbol of their guilt, and they made aprons of these fig leaves. 00:13:26.27\00:13:30.97 And of course, then, Jesus came and He made coats of skin. 00:13:31.01\00:13:34.11 But that required the sacrifice or the death of a lamb and that 00:13:34.14\00:13:37.58 was prefigure of Christ and what Jesus would do, so we could be 00:13:37.61\00:13:41.05 clothed with His righteousness. 00:13:41.08\00:13:42.62 So the first record that we have of clothing making, you might 00:13:42.65\00:13:45.55 say, in the Bible? 00:13:45.59\00:13:46.89 Yeah, goes back to Adam and Eve and they were trying to just 00:13:46.92\00:13:49.36 hide their guilt and shame. 00:13:49.39\00:13:51.13 And I think a lot of what people are doing today still, just in 00:13:51.16\00:13:54.46 the things that are being made, the technologies and all of 00:13:54.46\00:13:56.87 the things. 00:13:56.90\00:13:58.20 There's some good things in technology and advances in 00:13:58.23\00:13:59.70 medicine and all the rest of it. 00:13:59.73\00:14:01.57 But some of it is used for bad purposes: to hide guilt. 00:14:01.60\00:14:05.47 So we will need to confess our sins, ask God to forgive us. 00:14:05.51\00:14:08.74 Alden: It's also interesting when you look at what--they 00:14:08.78\00:14:11.28 covered themselves. 00:14:11.31\00:14:12.61 When Admin Eve sinned, they realized that they sinned, they 00:14:12.65\00:14:14.35 covered themselves with leaves, fig leaves, but that was not 00:14:14.38\00:14:18.52 enough for modesty. 00:14:18.55\00:14:19.85 So God had to cover them a little bit more. 00:14:19.89\00:14:22.59 So the coats of skin, right? 00:14:22.62\00:14:24.73 Jean: And you know, there's a lesson in that for us. 00:14:24.76\00:14:26.23 Christ's righteousness covers us from head to toe, you might say. 00:14:26.26\00:14:30.17 We need to be completely clothed in Christ's robe of 00:14:30.20\00:14:33.07 righteousness, none of our self-righteousness, but 00:14:33.10\00:14:35.74 His righteousness. 00:14:35.77\00:14:37.11 And then also interesting throughout scripture then, fig 00:14:37.14\00:14:39.21 leaves, or the fig tree, is often associated with man's 00:14:39.24\00:14:42.31 attempts to save himself. 00:14:42.34\00:14:43.65 That's why Jesus cursed the fig tree. 00:14:43.68\00:14:45.18 You read about that in the Gospels. 00:14:45.21\00:14:46.78 All right, who do we have next? 00:14:46.82\00:14:48.12 Alden: Gary is calling from Illinois and he's got a question 00:14:48.15\00:14:50.12 regarding the law. 00:14:50.15\00:14:51.49 Jean: Hi, Gary, welcome to the program. 00:14:51.52\00:14:53.96 Gary: Hi, is this right? 00:14:53.99\00:14:56.46 When the law was given, it was Ten Commandments in the book 00:14:56.49\00:14:59.83 of Moses. 00:14:59.86\00:15:01.23 Commandments carved in stone, while book of Moses was written 00:15:01.26\00:15:04.23 in the book. 00:15:04.27\00:15:05.57 Commandments placed in ark of the covenant while book of Moses 00:15:05.60\00:15:09.57 is not. 00:15:09.60\00:15:10.91 And that's why the law that we're not under is book 00:15:10.94\00:15:13.17 of Moses. 00:15:13.21\00:15:14.54 Is that right? 00:15:14.58\00:15:15.88 Jean: Yeah, you're right on there. 00:15:15.91\00:15:17.25 So when it came to the Ten Commandments, you'll remember 00:15:17.28\00:15:18.61 the account. 00:15:18.65\00:15:19.95 The Bible says that God called Moses up onto the mount and gave 00:15:19.98\00:15:23.75 him, the first time, ten commandments written on tables 00:15:23.79\00:15:26.96 of stone. 00:15:26.99\00:15:28.29 But then, as you remember, the children of Israel rebelled 00:15:28.32\00:15:30.46 right after this. 00:15:30.49\00:15:31.83 And when Moses came down off the mount, because the people were 00:15:31.86\00:15:34.23 breaking the ten commandments that he had just received from 00:15:34.30\00:15:36.30 God, he threw down the Ten Commandments and they broke and 00:15:36.33\00:15:39.30 then God said, "All right, now, you carve some stone and then 00:15:39.33\00:15:41.70 come up and I will write the Ten Commandments on it," 00:15:41.74\00:15:44.01 so there was a second plate of stones, after the 00:15:44.04\00:15:47.34 Ten Commandments were carved by the finger of God on these 00:15:47.38\00:15:50.18 tablets of stone, they were placed then 00:15:50.21\00:15:52.65 in the ark of the covenant. 00:15:52.68\00:15:53.98 Now, in addition to being in the ark, the Ten Commandments are 00:15:54.02\00:15:56.95 inside the ark, there was also a rod that was eventually placed 00:15:56.99\00:16:00.66 there, that budded, representing that God had chosen Aaron and 00:16:00.69\00:16:04.29 his family to be the priests. 00:16:04.33\00:16:06.80 And then there was also a pot of manna that was placed in the 00:16:06.83\00:16:09.60 ark, a symbol of God sustaining the children of Israel and 00:16:09.63\00:16:12.73 bringing them up out of slavery, out of Egypt, and leading them 00:16:12.77\00:16:15.90 to the Promised Land. 00:16:15.94\00:16:17.27 Then in addition to the Ten Commandments, there were, as we 00:16:17.31\00:16:19.24 mentioned before, some of the statutes. 00:16:19.27\00:16:21.54 We spoke about the ceremonial law. 00:16:21.58\00:16:23.81 These things were all written, even how they were to deal with 00:16:23.85\00:16:26.68 property and inheritance and marriage and all kinds of social 00:16:26.72\00:16:31.42 things were written down, part of what's called the law of 00:16:31.45\00:16:34.06 Moses and that was placed on the side of the ark. 00:16:34.09\00:16:37.59 Now, the law of Moses, Paul tells us in the New Testament, 00:16:37.63\00:16:41.00 that was contrary to the Gentiles because there were some 00:16:41.03\00:16:43.47 specifications in the law. 00:16:43.50\00:16:44.80 For example, if you were not a Jew, if you were not 00:16:44.83\00:16:48.17 circumcised, you couldn't come into a certain area surrounding 00:16:48.20\00:16:51.91 the temple itself, even in the days of Jesus. 00:16:51.94\00:16:53.78 There was a mark in the courtyard. 00:16:53.81\00:16:55.78 And if you were a Gentile and you stepped over that mark, you 00:16:55.81\00:16:59.28 could be killed. 00:16:59.31\00:17:00.68 And Paul says that was the law contrary to us, meaning contrary 00:17:00.72\00:17:03.49 to the Gentiles. 00:17:03.52\00:17:04.82 But Christ did away with that, having nailed that to the cross. 00:17:04.85\00:17:07.49 So the ceremonial law met its fulfillment in the death 00:17:07.52\00:17:10.39 of Jesus. 00:17:10.43\00:17:11.76 Then Paul says, "Now he who has faith in Jesus, he is the seed 00:17:11.79\00:17:14.93 of Abraham." 00:17:14.96\00:17:16.36 So it doesn't matter what, you know, your nationality might be 00:17:16.40\00:17:20.07 or what your genes are, your family inheritance. 00:17:20.10\00:17:22.94 If you have faith in Jesus, you're Abraham's seed, heirs 00:17:22.97\00:17:26.51 according to the promise. 00:17:26.54\00:17:27.88 That's good news. 00:17:27.91\00:17:29.21 Alden: We have a free offer on that: Lesson 6, called "Written 00:17:29.24\00:17:31.45 in Stone." 00:17:31.48\00:17:32.81 Jean: Thank you. A great lesson, absolutely. 00:17:32.85\00:17:35.25 Alden: And they can get that if they call 1-800-835-6747. 00:17:35.28\00:17:38.89 Jean: Okay, great. 00:17:38.92\00:17:40.22 Again, it's called, "Written in Stone." 00:17:40.26\00:17:41.89 It's one of our Amazing Facts study guides and, you know, 00:17:41.92\00:17:43.53 friends, we'll just take a moment to mention this. 00:17:43.56\00:17:44.99 If you have not yet taken advantage of the "Amazing Facts" 00:17:45.03\00:17:47.30 study guide series, it's a whole set of Bible lessons, 00:17:47.30\00:17:50.90 it is great. 00:17:50.93\00:17:52.27 You can do it online. 00:17:52.30\00:17:53.60 We can actually send it to you through the mail. 00:17:53.64\00:17:55.27 You can fill in the answer sheet, send it back. 00:17:55.30\00:17:57.34 So those of you who have not yet gone through the "Amazing Facts" 00:17:57.37\00:17:59.84 study guide series, just ask for that when you call, and they'll 00:17:59.87\00:18:02.84 be able to sign you up, it's free, take advantage of it. 00:18:02.88\00:18:05.38 Who do we have next? 00:18:05.41\00:18:06.72 Alden: We have Jerry calling from Texas and he's got a 00:18:06.75\00:18:08.18 question regarding Dorcas. 00:18:08.22\00:18:10.02 Jean: Hi, Jerry. Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:18:10.05\00:18:13.22 Jerry: Hey, thanks, guys. 00:18:13.25\00:18:14.66 My question tonight is how long was Dorcas sleeping before Peter 00:18:14.69\00:18:20.26 raised her up? 00:18:20.30\00:18:21.60 Because they had to send from Joppa those two individuals to 00:18:21.63\00:18:25.47 Lydda to bring Peter. 00:18:25.50\00:18:28.40 How long was she sleeping, approximately? 00:18:28.44\00:18:31.47 Jean: Yes, you know, back in those Bible--back in Bible 00:18:31.51\00:18:34.24 times, when somebody died, you couldn't have the body around 00:18:34.28\00:18:37.75 long, especially in that climate in that area. 00:18:37.78\00:18:40.62 So maybe when she start--when she became very sick and she 00:18:40.65\00:18:44.32 started failing in health, maybe word began to spread that, you 00:18:44.35\00:18:48.66 know, she doesn't have too much time and maybe the family and 00:18:48.69\00:18:51.26 the friends need to need to get close. 00:18:51.29\00:18:54.73 Verse 38 of Acts, chapter 9, says, "Since Lydia, or Lydda, 00:18:54.76\00:18:59.70 was near Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter 00:18:59.73\00:19:02.20 was there, they sent two men to him, imploring him that he would 00:19:02.24\00:19:06.04 come without delay." 00:19:06.07\00:19:07.38 So it appears that it wasn't too far away from where Peter was. 00:19:07.41\00:19:11.71 I would imagine within a day's journey, at least, Peter was 00:19:11.75\00:19:14.55 able to get over there. 00:19:14.58\00:19:15.92 You couldn't keep a body open for more than probably a day, 00:19:15.95\00:19:18.95 day and a half, 2 days at the most. 00:19:18.99\00:19:20.52 So it was in a short period of time. 00:19:20.56\00:19:23.12 Alden: I know with the Hindus they have, I think 8 hours and 00:19:23.16\00:19:26.49 they have to burn the body at that point. 00:19:26.53\00:19:28.50 Jean: Right, because it's so hot, especially in that climate. 00:19:28.53\00:19:31.00 All right, thank you. 00:19:31.03\00:19:32.33 Who do we have next? 00:19:32.37\00:19:33.67 Alden: Well, we have Lee in Texas, once again, and has a 00:19:33.70\00:19:36.54 question regarding the Sabbath. 00:19:36.57\00:19:38.67 Jean: Hi, Lee, welcome to the program. 00:19:38.71\00:19:40.98 Lee: Yes, my question is, when we're supposed to--when God 00:19:41.01\00:19:44.51 comes back on the--on the new heaven and new earth, how will 00:19:44.55\00:19:49.38 you mind--and we do keep the Sabbath on the new earth, how 00:19:49.42\00:19:53.62 are we supposed to be able to keep something like that when 00:19:53.66\00:19:55.76 there's no passage of time? 00:19:55.79\00:19:57.96 Jean: Okay, good question. 00:19:57.99\00:19:59.29 Well, first of all, when the earth is made new, now, let me 00:19:59.33\00:20:02.20 just back up a little bit to share with you the context here 00:20:02.23\00:20:04.93 of what we're talking about. 00:20:04.97\00:20:06.57 In the book of Revelation, Revelation chapter 20, you have 00:20:06.60\00:20:09.30 a description of what we call the 1000 years of 00:20:09.34\00:20:11.21 the millennium. 00:20:11.24\00:20:12.57 What marks the beginning of that 1000 years is the Second Coming 00:20:12.61\00:20:15.54 of Christ. 00:20:15.58\00:20:16.88 So Jesus comes, the dead in Christ are resurrected, the 00:20:16.91\00:20:18.55 living righteous are changed in a moment, and the living 00:20:18.58\00:20:21.55 righteous are caught up along with those who are resurrected 00:20:21.58\00:20:24.72 and we go with Jesus to heaven for 1000 years. 00:20:24.75\00:20:28.52 The wicked are destroyed with the brightness of Christ's 00:20:28.56\00:20:30.96 coming and the devil and his angels are chained, so to speak, 00:20:30.99\00:20:34.23 on the earth, referred to as the bottomless pit, during those 00:20:34.30\00:20:36.97 1000 years. 00:20:37.00\00:20:38.33 At the end of the 1000 years, the New Jerusalem, this is 00:20:38.37\00:20:40.50 Revelation chapter 21. 00:20:40.54\00:20:41.87 The New Jerusalem comes down out of heaven. 00:20:41.90\00:20:44.24 It's at that point that Jesus will then set His feet on the 00:20:44.27\00:20:47.34 Mount of Olives. 00:20:47.38\00:20:48.68 And this is in Zechariah, the book of Zechariah, and the 00:20:48.71\00:20:51.35 mountain will open up and form a great valley, and the New 00:20:51.38\00:20:54.62 Jerusalem will come to rest right there in that valley. 00:20:54.65\00:20:57.72 There is what's called the Great White Throne Judgment that then 00:20:57.75\00:21:00.92 takes place. 00:21:00.96\00:21:02.26 All the wicked are resurrected. 00:21:02.29\00:21:03.63 They're outside the New Jerusalem, the righteous are 00:21:03.66\00:21:04.96 inside the city. 00:21:04.99\00:21:06.33 There is the final judgment and then the wicked mount their 00:21:06.36\00:21:09.20 attack upon the New Jerusalem. 00:21:09.23\00:21:10.57 This is Revelation chapter 20, and fire comes down and 00:21:10.60\00:21:13.54 devours them. 00:21:13.57\00:21:14.87 And then after the fire does its work of purifying the earth, 00:21:14.90\00:21:18.24 both of the devil, his angels and the wicked, then the Bible 00:21:18.27\00:21:22.18 says, "God creates a new heavens and a new earth wherein 00:21:22.21\00:21:25.55 dwells righteousness." 00:21:25.58\00:21:27.15 Now, when the earth is recreated, it'll still 00:21:27.18\00:21:30.15 be turning. 00:21:30.19\00:21:31.49 It'll be a glorified earth, but we'll still have days, we'll 00:21:31.52\00:21:34.49 still have nights, because the Bible tells us in Isaiah chapter 00:21:34.52\00:21:37.86 66, verse 23: "'And it shall come to pass,'" speaking about 00:21:37.89\00:21:41.93 that time, "'that from one new moon to another, and from one 00:21:41.96\00:21:45.27 Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come and worship before 00:21:45.30\00:21:48.47 Me,' says the Lord." 00:21:48.50\00:21:50.01 So in the earth made new, we will still have days. 00:21:50.04\00:21:53.27 The Bible does tell us, though, that in the New Jerusalem 00:21:53.31\00:21:55.58 itself, there is no need for the sun because the glory of God 00:21:55.61\00:22:00.45 fills the New Jerusalem with light. 00:22:00.48\00:22:02.42 But outside of the New Jerusalem, yes, you'll still 00:22:02.45\00:22:04.95 have the weekly cycle. 00:22:04.99\00:22:06.86 You'll also have the moon traveling around the earth 00:22:06.89\00:22:09.99 because it talks about months. 00:22:10.03\00:22:11.76 And somebody asked--somebody once asked, "Why do we go up 00:22:11.79\00:22:14.76 into the New Jerusalem on a monthly basis?" 00:22:14.83\00:22:17.63 Well, the Bible also says that the tree of life inside the New 00:22:17.67\00:22:20.60 Jerusalem bears 12 kinds of fruit, a different kind of fruit 00:22:20.64\00:22:24.11 every month. 00:22:24.14\00:22:25.47 So maybe we journey to the New Jerusalem to taste that month's 00:22:25.51\00:22:28.64 fruit from the tree of life. 00:22:28.68\00:22:31.35 But that's what the Bible says. 00:22:31.38\00:22:32.71 So no, the Sabbath will be kept in the earth made new. 00:22:32.75\00:22:34.78 The Bible is very clear on that. 00:22:34.82\00:22:36.92 Alden: We have that Bible study on "The Colossal City in Space." 00:22:36.95\00:22:40.26 Jean: That's right. 00:22:40.29\00:22:41.59 All about the New Jerusalem, about heaven, and we'll be happy 00:22:41.62\00:22:43.89 to send that to anyone who calls and ask. 00:22:43.93\00:22:46.36 The study guide is called "A Colossal City in Space." 00:22:46.39\00:22:49.40 And how do we get that lesson? 00:22:49.43\00:22:51.37 Alden: They can call 1-800-835-6747. 00:22:51.40\00:22:54.90 Ask for "The Colossal City in Space." 00:22:54.94\00:22:57.71 Jean: Also, I think they can text. 00:22:57.74\00:22:59.34 Alden: They can text, that's correct, #250 in the 00:22:59.37\00:23:02.98 United States, US territories, and Canada. 00:23:03.01\00:23:05.78 But if not, go to our website, AmazingFacts.org, and you can 00:23:05.81\00:23:08.72 ask for it there. 00:23:08.75\00:23:10.05 Jean: All right, thank you. 00:23:10.09\00:23:11.42 Maybe we've got time for one more before the break, 00:23:11.45\00:23:13.15 Pastor Alden. 00:23:13.19\00:23:14.49 Who do we have? 00:23:14.52\00:23:15.86 Alden: This is right up your alley. 00:23:15.89\00:23:17.19 This is Jose from Texas talking about a 70-week prophecy. 00:23:17.23\00:23:18.73 Jean: Okay, great, hi, Jose. Welcome to the program. 00:23:18.76\00:23:22.73 Jose: Evening, pastors. How y'all guys doing? 00:23:22.76\00:23:25.43 Jean: Doing well, thank you. 00:23:25.47\00:23:26.80 Jose: I would like to know in Daniel 9, verse 26, where that 00:23:26.84\00:23:32.01 timeline falls within the 70-week prophecy. 00:23:32.04\00:23:35.08 Jean: Okay, yeah, let me read it for you. 00:23:35.11\00:23:36.95 For those who are listening and we might have to give a 00:23:36.98\00:23:38.68 little background. 00:23:38.71\00:23:39.95 It says, "And after 62 weeks, Messiah shall be cut off, but 00:23:39.98\00:23:42.62 not for Himself; and the people of the prince who is to come 00:23:42.65\00:23:45.52 shall destroy the city and the sanctuary, and the end thereof 00:23:45.55\00:23:48.09 shall be with a flood, and till the end war and desolations 00:23:48.12\00:23:51.73 are determined." 00:23:51.76\00:23:53.09 So, are you wondering if that 62-week time period is part of 00:23:53.13\00:23:57.60 the 70 weeks? 00:23:57.63\00:23:59.23 Jose: Yes. 00:23:59.27\00:24:00.67 Jean: Yes, it is. 00:24:00.70\00:24:02.00 So in the previous verse, it says from the decree to restore 00:24:02.04\00:24:03.74 and rebuild Jerusalem, verse 25, "Know therefore and understand 00:24:03.77\00:24:07.51 that from the going forth of the command to restore and rebuild 00:24:07.54\00:24:09.64 Jerusalem until Messiah the prince, there shall be seven 00:24:09.68\00:24:12.38 weeks and sixty-two weeks." 00:24:12.41\00:24:13.75 So you have a total of 70 weeks; 70 weeks consists of 490 days. 00:24:13.78\00:24:19.05 There are 360 days in a Hebrew year. 00:24:19.09\00:24:22.09 So you got a total of 490 days. 00:24:22.12\00:24:24.13 Within that 400 and--every day equals a year. 00:24:24.16\00:24:27.40 So it's really a time period of 490 years, otherwise known as 00:24:27.46\00:24:30.37 the 70 weeks. 00:24:30.40\00:24:31.70 And within that 70-week period, it's divided up into 00:24:31.73\00:24:35.00 smaller sections. 00:24:35.04\00:24:36.67 In verse 26, it says: "After the 62 weeks." 00:24:36.71\00:24:39.67 So you have the first 7 weeks and the first 7 weeks or 49 00:24:39.71\00:24:43.88 years brought you to a point after the decree was given in 00:24:43.91\00:24:46.92 457 BC when they were able to finish building the wall 00:24:46.95\00:24:50.19 surrounding Jerusalem. 00:24:50.22\00:24:51.75 And then you go forward another 62 weeks. 00:24:51.79\00:24:54.26 That actually brings you to the end of that 69th week: 00:24:54.29\00:24:59.49 483 years. 00:24:59.53\00:25:01.80 What event happened? 00:25:01.83\00:25:03.13 It says the anointing of Messiah, the Prince. 00:25:03.16\00:25:05.27 That was the baptism of Jesus, and that occurred in 27 AD so 00:25:05.30\00:25:09.40 the starting point is 457 BC. 00:25:09.44\00:25:12.04 The baptism of Jesus is 27 AD. 00:25:12.07\00:25:14.74 Then it goes on to the next verse and it says, "In the 00:25:14.78\00:25:16.91 middle of the week, He shall bring an end to the sacrifice 00:25:16.95\00:25:19.18 and offerings." 00:25:19.21\00:25:20.55 Jesus died in 31 AD. 00:25:20.58\00:25:23.22 He died on the cross, brought an end to the sacrifices and 00:25:23.25\00:25:25.72 the offerings. 00:25:25.75\00:25:27.19 The second part of verse 25, you might be wondering about, 00:25:27.22\00:25:29.46 it says, "and the people of the prince who is to come shall 00:25:29.49\00:25:32.49 destroy the city and the sanctuary." 00:25:32.53\00:25:34.63 "The people of the prince that is to come," is a reference to 00:25:34.66\00:25:36.77 the Romans and this is under Titus. 00:25:36.80\00:25:39.17 This event occurred in 70 AD. 00:25:39.20\00:25:41.90 The Romans came and destroyed the Jerusalem, they destroyed 00:25:41.94\00:25:44.41 the temple. 00:25:44.44\00:25:45.77 So the first part of verse 25 is talking about Jesus, Messiah, 00:25:45.81\00:25:48.44 the prince. 00:25:48.48\00:25:49.81 The second part of the verse is talking about the destruction of 00:25:49.84\00:25:51.81 Jerusalem in 70 AD. 00:25:51.85\00:25:53.31 You can also read about that in Matthew 24 as well as in Luke, 00:25:53.35\00:25:56.28 where it talks about when you see armies surrounding the city, 00:25:56.32\00:25:59.02 then you know that its desolation is near. 00:25:59.05\00:26:02.16 So that is a great study. 00:26:02.19\00:26:03.59 One of my favorite passages right here, highlighting Christ. 00:26:03.63\00:26:06.73 It was written some 500 years before the events actually 00:26:06.76\00:26:10.60 took place. 00:26:10.63\00:26:11.97 So it's just an amazing time prophecy. 00:26:12.00\00:26:13.94 Very specific. 00:26:13.97\00:26:15.27 Tells you when Jesus was to be baptized, when He was to 00:26:15.30\00:26:17.64 be crucified 00:26:17.67\00:26:18.97 and when the probationary time for the nation of Israel was to 00:26:19.01\00:26:21.38 end in 34 AD. 00:26:21.41\00:26:23.55 We have a study guide. 00:26:23.58\00:26:24.91 You can look that up. 00:26:24.95\00:26:26.25 It's called "Right on Time," and it's all about the 70-week 00:26:26.28\00:26:29.48 Bible prophecy. 00:26:29.52\00:26:30.82 Well, friends, don't go away. 00:26:30.85\00:26:32.19 We got another half an hour of Bible questions. 00:26:32.22\00:26:34.29 We'll be back in just a moment. 00:26:34.32\00:26:39.86 announcer: Stay tuned. 00:26:39.89\00:26:41.20 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:26:41.23\00:26:44.23 announcer: Are you looking for a simple way to share your faith? 00:31:19.57\00:31:21.04 Alden: Well, we have Steve. 00:31:21.08\00:31:22.58 Steve's in Oregon. 00:31:22.61\00:31:23.91 He's got a question regarding the Second Coming and what 00:31:23.95\00:31:26.85 happens when Jesus comes. 00:31:26.88\00:31:29.78 Jean: All right, let's see if we can get Steve. 00:31:29.82\00:31:31.39 Steve, welcome to the program. 00:31:31.42\00:31:33.62 Steve: All right, thank you for taking my call. 00:31:33.66\00:31:35.66 Prior to the 1000-year millennium, when Jesus will 00:31:35.69\00:31:39.89 return, scripture says, "Every eye will see Him." 00:31:39.93\00:31:45.17 Back in the last millennium, I was in the Navy assigned to a 00:31:45.20\00:31:49.37 nuclear submarine for months at a time under sea without 00:31:49.40\00:31:53.81 surfacing, as are today's sailors in the sub duty. 00:31:53.84\00:31:58.15 How will they see Him coming in the sky, being submerged under 00:31:58.18\00:32:04.79 tons and tons of water? 00:32:04.82\00:32:06.35 Jean: Boy, you know, Steve, that is a great question. 00:32:06.39\00:32:08.39 That's the first time I've heard that. 00:32:08.42\00:32:09.76 You know, often people ask how will everybody see Jesus when 00:32:09.79\00:32:12.13 they come? 00:32:12.16\00:32:13.50 I've never heard somebody ask, what about those in a submarine? 00:32:13.53\00:32:14.93 Of course, you're right. 00:32:14.96\00:32:16.26 It will be different. 00:32:16.30\00:32:17.60 But I think there's going to be so many natural disasters, the 00:32:17.63\00:32:21.20 sea is going to be in upheavals, there's going to be earthquakes, 00:32:21.24\00:32:23.71 there's going to be so much going on at that time, maybe 00:32:23.74\00:32:26.88 these submarines are going to surface at the time. 00:32:26.91\00:32:29.68 You know, I don't know for sure, but the Bible does say that at 00:32:29.71\00:32:33.62 some point everyone will see Him. 00:32:33.65\00:32:36.18 Now, of course, there are going to be people in the submarine 00:32:36.22\00:32:38.82 who are quite possibly saved. 00:32:38.85\00:32:41.19 We don't know, you know, who's going to be saved and who's 00:32:41.22\00:32:43.53 going to be lost at the end. 00:32:43.56\00:32:44.89 But God's still going to be able to save them even though they're 00:32:44.93\00:32:46.83 in the submarine. 00:32:46.86\00:32:48.16 But I don't know, we'll have to wait and see. 00:32:48.20\00:32:50.13 You know, what about the blind people? 00:32:50.17\00:32:51.63 Will they see Jesus coming? 00:32:51.67\00:32:53.10 Well, we know those who are saved, of course, they are 00:32:53.13\00:32:55.80 changed in a moment in a twinkling of an eye and they get 00:32:55.84\00:32:58.47 these immortal bodies, they won't be blind anymore. 00:32:58.51\00:33:00.48 But what about the wicked? 00:33:00.51\00:33:02.01 So I think the Bible there in Revelation chapter 1, verse 7, 00:33:02.04\00:33:05.08 he's talking in general terms, meaning that everyone that can 00:33:05.11\00:33:08.02 see, will see Jesus when He comes again. 00:33:08.05\00:33:11.19 Alden: The world's also going to be in great upheaval at 00:33:11.22\00:33:13.72 that time. 00:33:13.76\00:33:15.09 So I don't know how many submarines are going to be 00:33:15.12\00:33:17.06 below water--in the water during that time period because 00:33:17.09\00:33:20.33 it's going to be pretty chaotic. 00:33:20.36\00:33:21.96 Jean: The Bible says there's great earthquakes, entire 00:33:22.00\00:33:24.63 islands, inhabited islands, disappear. 00:33:24.67\00:33:26.74 So it'll be very different than what we know now. 00:33:26.77\00:33:29.20 But that's a good question. 00:33:29.24\00:33:30.54 Yeah, we'll have to wait and see. 00:33:30.57\00:33:32.07 Thank you, Steve. 00:33:32.11\00:33:33.44 Alden: We have Nicole in Michigan. 00:33:33.48\00:33:34.78 She's got a question about what we can eat. 00:33:34.81\00:33:37.01 Jean: Hi, Nicole. You're on "Bible Answers Live." 00:33:37.05\00:33:40.02 Nicole: Hi, pastors. How are you? 00:33:40.05\00:33:42.72 Jean: Doing well, thanks. 00:33:42.75\00:33:44.09 Nicole: Good, I have a question about Genesis 9, verse 3, when 00:33:44.12\00:33:47.46 it talks about, when Noah and his family came out--came out 00:33:47.49\00:33:51.83 of the ark and the Bible says that they can eat everything 00:33:51.86\00:33:54.93 that came out of the ark. 00:33:54.96\00:33:56.70 Now, I know that we're--the unclean thing, we're not 00:33:56.73\00:33:59.13 supposed to eat unclean meats. 00:33:59.17\00:34:00.54 But why does that text say that? 00:34:00.57\00:34:03.07 What exactly is it saying? 00:34:03.10\00:34:04.44 Jean: The good question. 00:34:04.47\00:34:05.81 Well, let me read it for those who might not have their Bibles 00:34:05.84\00:34:07.54 in front of them. 00:34:07.58\00:34:08.88 I think you're thinking of Genesis 9, verse 1. 00:34:08.91\00:34:10.48 It says that "God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: 00:34:10.51\00:34:12.48 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.'" 00:34:12.51\00:34:14.15 This is after the flood, they're coming out of the ark. 00:34:14.18\00:34:16.52 "'And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every 00:34:16.55\00:34:19.19 beast of the earth and on every bird of the air, on all that 00:34:19.22\00:34:22.36 moves upon the earth, and upon all the fish of the sea. 00:34:22.39\00:34:24.99 They are given into your hand.'" 00:34:25.03\00:34:26.43 Verse 3 says, "'Every moving thing that lives shall be food 00:34:26.46\00:34:30.10 for you. 00:34:30.13\00:34:31.43 I have given you all things, even as the green herbs.'" 00:34:31.47\00:34:34.94 Now, when it says "every living thing shall be food for you," 00:34:34.97\00:34:38.21 it's the rest of scripture that helps us understand what exactly 00:34:38.24\00:34:41.54 with reference to the living thing is God referring to. 00:34:41.58\00:34:45.05 The first thing we need to recognize that before the flood, 00:34:45.08\00:34:47.92 we were introduced to clean and unclean animals, because when it 00:34:47.95\00:34:51.32 came to Noah and the flood, there were animals coming under 00:34:51.35\00:34:54.96 the ark. 00:34:54.99\00:34:56.22 You had the sevens of the clean and you had two of the unclean, 00:34:56.26\00:34:58.46 the sacrificial system had already been established long 00:34:58.49\00:35:01.40 before the flood. 00:35:01.43\00:35:02.76 It's actually established with Adam and Eve right there after 00:35:02.80\00:35:05.57 they sinned. 00:35:05.60\00:35:06.94 And it was clear they knew what was clean and unclean because 00:35:06.97\00:35:09.04 only clean animals could be offered as a sacrifice. 00:35:09.07\00:35:12.91 So the distinction between clean and unclean was always there. 00:35:12.94\00:35:15.81 Unclean animals were never considered food, at least not by 00:35:15.84\00:35:19.61 God's people, for sure. 00:35:19.65\00:35:21.18 It didn't even enter their mind. 00:35:21.22\00:35:22.45 It's like us today, there are certain animals that we would 00:35:22.48\00:35:25.15 never consider as being food. 00:35:25.19\00:35:28.02 In some places you go in the world, they can eat just about 00:35:28.06\00:35:30.46 anything that moves across your plate. 00:35:30.49\00:35:32.46 But you know, in other cultures, we say, "No, that's not food." 00:35:32.49\00:35:34.83 So it's not stated in the verse, you got to read some of the 00:35:34.86\00:35:38.27 other passages of scripture. 00:35:38.30\00:35:39.60 But it's clear that Noah understood that when He's 00:35:39.63\00:35:42.44 talking about the animals that he could eat, it had to be clean 00:35:42.47\00:35:44.81 animals because the next verse gives further instructions, 00:35:44.84\00:35:47.54 says, "You shall not eat the blood." 00:35:47.58\00:35:50.25 So he understood something about the health principles as it 00:35:50.28\00:35:53.08 related to the clean and the unclean animals, especially in 00:35:53.11\00:35:55.78 connection with the sacrificial. 00:35:55.82\00:35:57.05 Alden: Even at the end of verse 3, it says, "I've given you all 00:35:57.09\00:35:59.82 things, even as the green herbs." 00:35:59.85\00:36:02.49 So, can you eat all of the herbs? 00:36:02.52\00:36:05.19 Well, pretty much. 00:36:05.23\00:36:06.56 I mean, I wouldn't want to pull a Nebuchadnezzar and eat the 00:36:06.59\00:36:08.76 grass or anything like that. 00:36:08.80\00:36:10.17 Jean: There's probably some herbs it's not good to eat or 00:36:10.20\00:36:12.53 some plants, some are poisonous. 00:36:12.57\00:36:14.97 So even having to say, yeah, you can eat everything that grows, 00:36:15.00\00:36:17.71 sort of thing. 00:36:17.74\00:36:19.04 Well, obviously that doesn't mean you can eat everything 00:36:19.07\00:36:20.41 that grows. 00:36:20.44\00:36:21.74 There are some things you don't want to eat. 00:36:21.78\00:36:23.08 That same principle would apply even to the animals. 00:36:23.11\00:36:25.11 All right, we do have a study guide. 00:36:25.15\00:36:26.65 It's called "God's Free Health Plan." 00:36:26.68\00:36:28.72 It talks about what the Bible says, some principles that we 00:36:28.75\00:36:31.82 can follow to be healthy and so take advantage of that. 00:36:31.85\00:36:34.69 It's "God's Free Health Plan." 00:36:34.72\00:36:36.66 The number is 800-835-6747 and, Pastor Alden, if they want to 00:36:36.69\00:36:41.76 get a digital download of that, what do they text? 00:36:41.80\00:36:44.57 Alden: You can text #250 in the United States and the US 00:36:44.60\00:36:47.84 territories and Canada. 00:36:47.87\00:36:49.44 If not, go to AmazingFacts.org and we will send that to you. 00:36:49.47\00:36:53.31 Jean: Okay, thank you. 00:36:53.34\00:36:54.68 Who do we have next? 00:36:54.71\00:36:56.01 Alden: We have May in Washington--Wisconsin, who's 00:36:56.04\00:36:58.28 got a question regarding false prophets. 00:36:58.31\00:37:01.08 Jean: Hi, May. You're on "Bible Answers Live." 00:37:01.12\00:37:04.12 May: Hi, isn't it true that the Bible states in Revelation 00:37:04.15\00:37:10.59 that the false prophet is really actually a man and not a nation? 00:37:10.63\00:37:15.33 Jean: Yes, yes. 00:37:15.36\00:37:16.83 Now, when it comes to Bible prophecy, there are two things 00:37:16.87\00:37:20.67 we need to bear in mind. 00:37:20.70\00:37:22.00 A king often would represent a nation. 00:37:22.04\00:37:24.84 So I'm actually doing a lesson right now in Daniel chapter 11, 00:37:24.87\00:37:28.28 we're doing it with the church, and it talks about the king of 00:37:28.31\00:37:30.88 the North and the king of the South. 00:37:30.91\00:37:32.21 And there are times when it refers to a specific king, but 00:37:32.25\00:37:35.32 it can also refer to the nation that the king represents. 00:37:35.35\00:37:38.49 Now the false prophet that we read about in the book of 00:37:38.52\00:37:40.69 Revelation, it is a individual that represents a power. 00:37:40.72\00:37:46.43 It is a religious political power in the last days. 00:37:46.46\00:37:50.20 It is also a movement that takes place in a nation and, to be 00:37:50.23\00:37:55.00 really honest and specific, we're talking about an entity 00:37:55.04\00:37:57.84 called Babylon, that's referred to as the false prophet, and it 00:37:57.87\00:38:01.24 arises, for the most part, in the United States. 00:38:01.28\00:38:03.75 It is a counterfeit form of worship that takes the churches 00:38:03.78\00:38:07.78 by storm. 00:38:07.82\00:38:09.15 You know, Pastor Alden, I think that's beginning to happen even 00:38:09.18\00:38:10.85 now where people are putting their trust in experience, 00:38:10.89\00:38:15.16 religious experience, instead of in the Bible. 00:38:15.19\00:38:18.59 And they are trusting how they feel or what a pastor is saying, 00:38:18.63\00:38:21.86 or the music or something else instead of "What does the 00:38:21.90\00:38:24.67 Bible say?" 00:38:24.70\00:38:25.93 And this is a counterfeit system and it's going to rise, but it's 00:38:25.97\00:38:28.34 going to have prominent leaders that will actually push both 00:38:28.37\00:38:32.71 protestantism or apostate protestantism, aspects of that 00:38:32.74\00:38:36.58 with Catholicism and it'll come together, with the United States 00:38:36.61\00:38:40.18 at the end. 00:38:40.22\00:38:41.52 So it's a deep study. 00:38:41.55\00:38:42.88 There's a lot in there. 00:38:42.92\00:38:44.22 But yeah, the false prophet represents a movement. 00:38:44.25\00:38:47.09 It represents people in that movement, but it's more than 00:38:47.12\00:38:49.86 just a person. 00:38:49.89\00:38:51.23 It's a movement. 00:38:51.26\00:38:52.49 Alden: The challenging thing is sometimes we get so caught up in 00:38:52.53\00:38:54.20 this that we have our own ideologies and we're used to 00:38:54.20\00:38:58.37 "what I think, what I feel," rather than what God says. 00:38:58.40\00:39:02.60 And so we have to kind of level everything and say, "What does 00:39:02.64\00:39:05.74 God say?" because whatever God says, we have to take that as 00:39:05.77\00:39:09.68 truth, no matter what anybody else says. 00:39:09.71\00:39:11.28 Jean: Well, you know, in the time of the Reformation, during 00:39:11.31\00:39:12.98 the time of Martin Luther, the controversy was "Who has 00:39:13.01\00:39:16.82 final authority? 00:39:16.85\00:39:18.19 Is it the church through its traditions or is it the Bible?" 00:39:18.22\00:39:21.96 Martin Luther said, "No, it's the Bible." 00:39:21.99\00:39:23.76 Bible has final authority. 00:39:23.79\00:39:25.13 In other words, the church needs to be tested by the Bible, 00:39:25.16\00:39:28.13 doctrines have to be tested by the Bible. 00:39:28.16\00:39:30.10 In the last days, there is an effort to put final authority 00:39:30.13\00:39:34.80 not in the Bible, but now in experience that a person 00:39:34.84\00:39:38.04 might have. 00:39:38.07\00:39:39.37 So either way, the devil's goal is to get people to trust in 00:39:39.41\00:39:42.74 something else than what the Bible says. 00:39:42.78\00:39:44.65 Alden: Solo scripture. 00:39:44.68\00:39:45.98 Jean: That was the cry of the protestant Reformation. 00:39:46.01\00:39:47.98 All right, great question. 00:39:48.02\00:39:49.32 Thank you, May. 00:39:49.35\00:39:50.69 Alden: Okay, we have Geo calling from Washington, first time 00:39:50.72\00:39:52.02 calling, and he's got a question in regards to coveting 00:39:52.05\00:39:54.69 and stealing. 00:39:54.72\00:39:56.06 Jean: Hi, Geo, welcome to the program. 00:39:56.09\00:39:58.13 Geo: Hi, good evening, pastors. 00:39:58.16\00:40:00.26 Yeah, so, as you said, I have a question on the Ten 00:40:00.30\00:40:02.76 Commandments, and the Ten Commandments seem so perfect, 00:40:02.80\00:40:05.80 but the last one seems a bit out of place. 00:40:05.83\00:40:08.67 And I know it sounds strange but hear me out. 00:40:08.70\00:40:10.54 When Jesus elaborated on the commandments, which was in 00:40:10.57\00:40:13.58 Matthew somewhere, He said something like being angry with 00:40:13.61\00:40:16.88 your brother is murder in your heart, and lusting over a woman 00:40:16.91\00:40:19.48 is adultery in your heart, because it's the same thing in 00:40:19.51\00:40:21.52 your mind, right? 00:40:21.55\00:40:22.88 So, isn't coveting just stealing in your heart? 00:40:22.92\00:40:25.22 So it seems slightly redundant. 00:40:25.25\00:40:27.22 Jean: Yes, well, that's a good point. 00:40:27.26\00:40:28.66 You know, if you look at all of the last six of the commandments 00:40:28.69\00:40:31.46 that have to do with our relationship with our fellow 00:40:31.49\00:40:32.86 man, it's almost impossible to break any of those last six 00:40:32.89\00:40:37.40 without first breaking the tenth. 00:40:37.43\00:40:39.00 For example, murder. 00:40:39.03\00:40:41.04 It probably begins with some form of covetousness, which is 00:40:41.07\00:40:44.21 the tenth commandment. 00:40:44.24\00:40:45.57 Adultery begins with some form of covetousness. 00:40:45.61\00:40:47.94 Stealing begins with some form of covetousness. 00:40:47.98\00:40:51.11 Lying, yeah, it's probably something you're trying to 00:40:51.15\00:40:54.38 cover up. 00:40:54.42\00:40:55.72 You're not being honest. 00:40:55.75\00:40:57.09 So, the tenth commandment sort of summarizes the motivation 00:40:57.12\00:41:00.86 behind all of the others. 00:41:00.89\00:41:02.19 It's the only commandment amongst the last six that have 00:41:02.22\00:41:04.69 to do with your actual heart, with your thoughts, with your-- 00:41:04.73\00:41:08.43 with your intents. 00:41:08.46\00:41:10.37 And I think that's why it's such an important commandment. 00:41:10.40\00:41:13.03 All of the commandments hinge on a heart experience because it's 00:41:13.07\00:41:16.57 possible to keep the letter of the law, in other words, and 00:41:16.60\00:41:19.04 this is what Jesus was saying, you know, "You've heard it say 00:41:19.07\00:41:22.28 of old, you shall not kill. 00:41:22.31\00:41:23.65 But I say if you're angry with your brother without a cause, 00:41:23.68\00:41:26.41 you're guilty of committing murder in your heart." 00:41:26.45\00:41:28.82 So Jesus is saying it's not just about the letter of the 00:41:28.85\00:41:31.59 law, it's about the spirit of the law. 00:41:31.62\00:41:33.29 Now, there might be some who say, "Well, you know, I keep the 00:41:33.32\00:41:35.62 spirit of the law. 00:41:35.66\00:41:36.99 So I don't have to keep the letter of the law." 00:41:37.03\00:41:38.76 But how can you keep the spirit of the law that says, "Thy shall 00:41:38.79\00:41:42.13 not be angry with your brother without a cause, and yet 00:41:42.16\00:41:44.60 murder him"? 00:41:44.63\00:41:45.97 You can't. 00:41:46.00\00:41:47.24 So if you're going to keep the spirit of the law, you're also 00:41:47.27\00:41:49.04 going to keep the letter of the law. 00:41:49.07\00:41:50.87 And if you're going to keep the spirit of the law, you're going 00:41:50.91\00:41:52.61 to keep the tenth commandment that says thou shall not covet. 00:41:52.64\00:41:55.28 So the last commandment is really the one that talks about 00:41:55.31\00:41:58.35 the motivation behind all of those last six commandments. 00:41:58.38\00:42:02.78 Does that make sense, Geo? 00:42:02.82\00:42:06.19 Geo: Yeah, it does. 00:42:06.22\00:42:07.52 Jean: Okay, thanks so much for your call. 00:42:07.56\00:42:08.96 Yeah, absolutely. 00:42:08.99\00:42:10.33 Who do we have next? 00:42:10.36\00:42:11.66 Alden: Well, we have David calling from California. 00:42:11.69\00:42:13.03 He's got a question regarding turning the other cheek. 00:42:13.06\00:42:15.70 Jean: Hi, David. Welcome. 00:42:15.73\00:42:17.07 David: Hi, thank you for accepting my question. 00:42:17.10\00:42:20.67 Yeah, so, the Bible talks about turning the other cheek and so, 00:42:20.70\00:42:26.41 as a Christian, does that mean that we don't have a right to 00:42:26.44\00:42:30.71 defend ourselves from physical harm or sexual harm? 00:42:30.75\00:42:34.45 Jean: Okay, first of all, no, it doesn't mean that we need to 00:42:34.48\00:42:38.02 just, you know, go with whatever comes our way. 00:42:38.05\00:42:41.92 That specific command has to do with interpersonal 00:42:41.96\00:42:45.73 relationships, meaning one with another. 00:42:45.76\00:42:48.76 There are other laws that we find in the Old Testament, for 00:42:48.80\00:42:51.63 example, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. 00:42:51.67\00:42:54.10 That represents justice. 00:42:54.14\00:42:56.17 And those are the laws that were to govern the nation. 00:42:56.20\00:42:58.74 So those are the civil laws that govern the nation. 00:42:58.77\00:43:01.58 And there's nothing wrong in a government holding criminals 00:43:01.61\00:43:05.85 accountable for their bad behavior and there's nothing 00:43:05.88\00:43:08.95 wrong in us reporting a criminal who is doing something wrong and 00:43:08.98\00:43:13.49 hurting somebody else. 00:43:13.52\00:43:14.96 It's perfectly fine for us to say, "You know what, this person 00:43:14.99\00:43:18.69 is a problem." 00:43:18.73\00:43:20.03 Matter of fact, we should do that, you know, when we can. 00:43:20.06\00:43:22.86 But when it says, "Turn the other cheek," it's talking about 00:43:22.90\00:43:25.83 holding resentment and anger towards another person, 00:43:25.87\00:43:29.57 especially if that person recognizes that they've hurt you 00:43:29.60\00:43:33.11 and they've asked for forgiveness. 00:43:33.14\00:43:34.44 You need to let it go, you need to try and forgive it. 00:43:34.48\00:43:36.61 You say, "Lord, help me to forgive." 00:43:36.64\00:43:38.28 Sometimes, yeah, we might have to keep quiet if somebody says 00:43:38.31\00:43:42.05 something and just say, you know, "I'm not even going to 00:43:42.08\00:43:44.72 cause a fuss. 00:43:44.75\00:43:46.09 I'm not going to stir it up." 00:43:46.12\00:43:47.42 But that doesn't mean that we need to place ourselves 00:43:47.46\00:43:49.32 in danger. 00:43:49.36\00:43:50.66 That, you know, Jesus said, "If you're persecuted in one city, 00:43:50.69\00:43:53.26 flee to the other." 00:43:53.29\00:43:54.56 So there's nothing wrong in doing what you have to do to 00:43:54.60\00:43:56.73 protect yourself. 00:43:56.77\00:43:58.10 And if you know of other people that are being abused or hurt or 00:43:58.13\00:44:01.04 in a dangerous situation, I think the first thing we want to 00:44:01.07\00:44:03.91 do is help them get out of that situation. 00:44:03.94\00:44:06.37 So the Bible is not endorsing somebody to suffer, especially 00:44:06.41\00:44:09.78 if they're suffering physical abuse or, you know, serious 00:44:09.81\00:44:14.18 emotional abuse. 00:44:14.22\00:44:15.52 You can separate yourself from that situation. 00:44:15.55\00:44:18.05 You're not violating that commandment that says, "Turn the 00:44:18.09\00:44:20.29 other cheek." 00:44:20.32\00:44:21.62 Does that--does that help, David? 00:44:21.66\00:44:23.99 David: Yes, thank you very much, Pastor. 00:44:24.03\00:44:25.49 Jean: All right. Thanks for your call. 00:44:25.53\00:44:28.16 Who do we have next? 00:44:28.20\00:44:29.50 Alden: We have Glenn in Ohio. 00:44:29.53\00:44:30.87 He's got a question in regard to one of the prophecies 00:44:30.90\00:44:32.33 in Zechariah. 00:44:32.37\00:44:33.67 Jean: Hi, Glenn. Welcome. 00:44:33.70\00:44:36.27 Glenn: Good evening. Thank you for taking my call. 00:44:36.30\00:44:38.97 Yeah, my question concerns prophecies in Zechariah chapter 00:44:39.01\00:44:43.61 5 and chapter 6. 00:44:43.65\00:44:46.41 In chapter 5, Zechariah said he saw a flying scroll and 00:44:46.45\00:44:50.75 then it goes on and gives dimensions and 00:44:50.79\00:44:52.65 descriptions, but it talks about three women sitting in the lead 00:44:52.69\00:44:57.66 line flew, the lead line ephah, and it doesn't make much sense. 00:44:57.69\00:45:03.06 I've heard people stumble and stumble over that, what the 00:45:03.10\00:45:05.80 women stand for. 00:45:05.83\00:45:07.17 But if you vowel point the word "isha" in Hebrew and make it say 00:45:07.20\00:45:11.84 asha, we now have fire instead of women in those lead line 00:45:11.87\00:45:17.31 ephahs, and it's a perfect description of the scud missile 00:45:17.35\00:45:21.28 and the F-4 tomcat fighter, the F-4 Phantom. 00:45:21.32\00:45:25.99 And I just wonder, and then the other one is Zechariah chapter 00:45:26.02\00:45:28.96 6, starting in verse 1, a perfect description of the 00:45:28.99\00:45:33.83 attack on the Twin Towers. 00:45:33.86\00:45:36.00 And I never hear people talk about those things. 00:45:36.03\00:45:38.43 But is it possible that these things are prophecies fulfilled 00:45:38.47\00:45:42.24 in the current events? 00:45:42.27\00:45:43.94 Jean: Well, yes, I think there are prophecies. 00:45:43.97\00:45:45.91 If you read through Zechariah, there are very descriptive 00:45:45.94\00:45:48.98 prophecies relating to certain acts of judgment and they 00:45:49.01\00:45:52.71 culminate near the judgment of the end. 00:45:52.75\00:45:55.88 Now, could they refer to more than what the symbol 00:45:55.92\00:45:58.35 might mention? 00:45:58.39\00:45:59.69 Perhaps, you know, there are different ideas, or suggestions. 00:45:59.72\00:46:03.36 But if we're going to let the Bible interpret itself, then we 00:46:03.39\00:46:06.63 need to ask ourselves, well, in Bible prophecy, what does a 00:46:06.66\00:46:09.13 woman represent? 00:46:09.16\00:46:10.50 Or in Bible prophecy, what do these horses, a red horse and a 00:46:10.53\00:46:13.47 black horse, as you read, what do they represent? 00:46:13.50\00:46:15.84 Now, much of the imagery that you find here in Zechariah is 00:46:15.87\00:46:18.94 actually used by John in the writing of the book 00:46:18.97\00:46:21.28 of Revelation. 00:46:21.31\00:46:22.54 In Revelation when he opens up the seals, there is this white 00:46:22.58\00:46:26.31 horse that he's seen galloping and then a red horse then a pale 00:46:26.35\00:46:29.68 horse and then a black horse. 00:46:29.72\00:46:31.02 And it represents different time periods of Christian history, 00:46:31.05\00:46:33.96 different things that were taking place. 00:46:33.99\00:46:35.89 A woman, of course, in the Bible represents a church. 00:46:35.92\00:46:38.33 So we first and foremost, need to look at those symbols and see 00:46:38.36\00:46:41.33 how do they fit into what's happening in our world. 00:46:41.36\00:46:44.97 Also, we need to recognize that Zechariah is not only talking 00:46:45.00\00:46:47.57 about things, you know, in 2024 but he's referring to things 00:46:47.60\00:46:51.21 that have occurred throughout history, especially as we get 00:46:51.24\00:46:54.48 closer and closer to the end, closer to our time. 00:46:54.51\00:46:57.25 So I'm a little reluctant to just say, "Well, this specific 00:46:57.28\00:47:00.25 symbol here represents this specific event in history," 00:47:00.28\00:47:03.49 unless there is a lot of different passages of scripture 00:47:03.52\00:47:06.59 that make that very clear. 00:47:06.62\00:47:08.22 Was the Twin Tower attack significant? 00:47:08.26\00:47:10.56 I think it was. 00:47:10.59\00:47:11.89 And here's why in just a nutshell. 00:47:11.93\00:47:14.03 It's interesting that Islam is mentioned in the book 00:47:14.10\00:47:17.80 of Revelation. 00:47:17.83\00:47:19.07 You actually have the fifth and the sixth trumpet describes the 00:47:19.10\00:47:22.97 rise of Islam during the time of Muhammad and then during the 00:47:23.00\00:47:25.24 time of the Ottoman Turks. 00:47:25.27\00:47:27.01 And it seems there's quite a bit of very description of this 00:47:27.04\00:47:30.68 power rising up. 00:47:30.71\00:47:32.01 And I think it is interesting, you read a little bit of Daniel 00:47:32.05\00:47:34.35 chapter 11, some suggest that maybe at the end of chapter 11, 00:47:34.38\00:47:37.15 the king of the South might have some reference to some of the 00:47:37.19\00:47:39.99 Islamic nations. 00:47:40.02\00:47:41.36 I mean, some of that's still in the future. 00:47:41.39\00:47:42.82 So we're going to have to wait and see how all of these 00:47:42.86\00:47:45.89 come together. 00:47:45.93\00:47:47.23 But to take it too far literal, I think we need to be careful. 00:47:47.23\00:47:49.70 We don't want to get--we don't want to get confused and go down 00:47:49.73\00:47:53.84 the wrong path. 00:47:53.87\00:47:55.17 There are a broader prophetic application for these 00:47:55.20\00:47:56.91 different aspects. 00:47:56.94\00:47:58.27 And Zechariah is a very detailed prophecy. 00:47:58.31\00:48:00.21 So we don't have time to get into all the details of it. 00:48:00.24\00:48:02.21 But great question. 00:48:02.24\00:48:03.58 Alden: We'll go to Lin over in Arizona. 00:48:03.61\00:48:05.48 She's got a question regarding Daniel chapter 8. 00:48:05.51\00:48:08.42 Jean: Hi, Lin. Welcome to the program. 00:48:08.45\00:48:10.19 Lin Moore: Hey, Pastor Jean Ross. 00:48:10.22\00:48:12.92 Yeah, my name is Lin Moore in Phoenix. 00:48:12.95\00:48:15.82 I'm a member of the Camelback Church, Pastor John's church. 00:48:15.86\00:48:19.46 Yeah, I just got a quick question. 00:48:19.49\00:48:22.13 In Daniel chapter 8, why was the goat facing westward, 00:48:22.16\00:48:28.77 eastward, and southward? 00:48:28.80\00:48:30.81 And what was Suchem? Why was he facing Suchem? 00:48:30.84\00:48:34.08 Why is that, Pastor? 00:48:34.11\00:48:36.31 Jean: Okay, yeah, let me talk about that. 00:48:36.34\00:48:38.11 I'm glad you noticed that. 00:48:38.15\00:48:39.48 Sometimes people miss those little minutiae of prophecy. 00:48:39.51\00:48:43.52 For those who are listening, Daniel chapter 8 describes 00:48:43.55\00:48:46.59 powers using animals. 00:48:46.62\00:48:48.76 For example, a ram is first described in Daniel chapter 8, 00:48:48.79\00:48:52.33 that has two horns, the one higher than the other. 00:48:52.36\00:48:54.73 That represents the kingdom of Medo Persia. 00:48:54.73\00:48:57.57 And then there is a goat that is seen and the goat rises up 00:48:57.60\00:49:02.60 towards the east and towards the south and towards the north, 00:49:02.64\00:49:08.14 meaning that this power, Greece, would come from the west, which 00:49:08.18\00:49:12.81 it did in relationship to Persia. 00:49:12.85\00:49:15.45 So the reason when it talks about not touching the earth and 00:49:15.48\00:49:18.32 it's coming, it's coming from the west, Greece and Alexander 00:49:18.35\00:49:21.42 the Great came up from the west, Persia was--Persia's sort of 00:49:21.46\00:49:25.39 Iran, the Middle East, the Mediterranean area, Mesopotamia. 00:49:25.43\00:49:29.80 And so that's why the goat came from the west, moving to 00:49:29.83\00:49:33.94 the east. 00:49:33.97\00:49:35.30 Whereas Persia rose up from the east and moved to the west. 00:49:35.34\00:49:37.61 Good question. Thank you. 00:49:37.64\00:49:40.31 Who do we have next? 00:49:40.34\00:49:41.64 Alden: We have Robert calling from Washington. 00:49:41.68\00:49:43.08 Robert, you got a question regarding the sealed book 00:49:43.11\00:49:45.31 of Isaiah? 00:49:45.35\00:49:46.85 Robert: Hi, Pastor Ross. Jean: Hello. 00:49:46.88\00:49:48.85 Robert: Good day. Good to hear from you again. 00:49:48.88\00:49:50.82 Jean: Yeah, thanks for calling. 00:49:50.85\00:49:53.25 Robert: You're welcome. I know I've got a short time. 00:49:53.29\00:49:57.23 Isaiah 29, I believe it's verse 11, talks about a sealed book 00:49:57.26\00:50:04.70 and sometimes the denomination wants to claim that as their 00:50:04.73\00:50:11.24 book that was invented by a man a while ago. 00:50:11.27\00:50:17.21 But then, I wonder, you know, I thought, "Well, maybe it's 00:50:17.25\00:50:20.62 Daniel because Daniel is a sealed book in the Bible." 00:50:20.65\00:50:24.19 But then verse 4 talks about it being from the voice of a medium 00:50:24.22\00:50:32.03 or something, it says. 00:50:32.06\00:50:33.40 So I'm guessing it's not Daniel. 00:50:33.43\00:50:37.00 So who--so what is the sealed book? 00:50:37.03\00:50:39.70 Jean: So this is a prophecy that Isaiah is making and he's 00:50:39.73\00:50:42.27 referring to the people, this would be the people of Israel, 00:50:42.30\00:50:45.97 who did not receive the words of the prophecy. 00:50:46.01\00:50:48.88 It was to them, a sealed book, not meaning that the book per se 00:50:48.91\00:50:52.71 was sealed, but the prophetic message was sealed because if 00:50:52.75\00:50:55.78 you read a little earlier, verse 9, it says, "Pause and wonder!" 00:50:55.82\00:50:58.79 This is Isaiah 29, verse 9. "Blind yourselves and be blind! 00:50:58.82\00:51:03.43 For they are drunk, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with 00:51:03.46\00:51:07.40 intoxicating drink. 00:51:07.40\00:51:08.93 The Lord has poured out on you the spirit of deep sleep, and 00:51:08.96\00:51:12.93 has closed your eyes, namely, the prophets; and has covered 00:51:12.97\00:51:16.71 your heads, namely, the seers." 00:51:16.74\00:51:18.64 So at the time because of a rejection of doing right, 00:51:18.67\00:51:23.55 rejecting God's commandments, the people didn't understand 00:51:23.58\00:51:26.72 the prophecies. 00:51:26.75\00:51:28.05 Isaiah is prophesying. 00:51:28.08\00:51:29.42 He was about 150 years, 00:51:29.45\00:51:31.65 well, but a little less, maybe 100 years before the Babylonian 00:51:31.69\00:51:35.22 captivity and judgment is coming upon Jerusalem, and the people 00:51:35.26\00:51:38.83 seemed oblivious to that. 00:51:38.86\00:51:40.16 They seem to be walking around as one who is blind or those who 00:51:40.20\00:51:43.23 are intoxicated. 00:51:43.26\00:51:44.57 And Isaiah is saying judgment is coming. 00:51:44.60\00:51:46.47 And then Jeremiah who is the next prophet who was actually 00:51:46.50\00:51:49.00 there when Jerusalem was conquered by Nebuchadnezzar, he 00:51:49.04\00:51:52.24 was also warning the people, but it seemed to be a sealed book. 00:51:52.27\00:51:56.11 The prophecy, just, they didn't receive it, because they had 00:51:56.14\00:51:58.98 rejected, they rejected doing the will of God. 00:51:59.01\00:52:03.05 All right, maybe time for one more. 00:52:03.08\00:52:04.59 Alden: We have Chelsea. 00:52:04.62\00:52:05.92 She's got a question in Florida regarding hellfire. 00:52:05.95\00:52:08.86 Jean: Hi, Chelsea. Welcome to the program. 00:52:08.89\00:52:11.59 Chelsea: Hi, how are you both? 00:52:11.63\00:52:12.99 Jean: Good, thank you. 00:52:13.03\00:52:15.30 Chelsea: Yeah, so my question basically is about 00:52:15.33\00:52:17.70 Revelation 20, verse 10. 00:52:17.73\00:52:20.34 Right now, I'm studying with a group of friends, who kind of 00:52:20.37\00:52:24.37 grew up believing that hellfire is an actual eternal 00:52:24.41\00:52:28.58 burning place. 00:52:28.61\00:52:30.31 But we're studying and also, you know, using "Amazing Facts" 00:52:30.35\00:52:34.52 study guide, which has been really helpful. 00:52:34.55\00:52:36.85 But when we got to Revelation 20, verse 10, I actually got a 00:52:36.89\00:52:40.49 little stumped on it too because the last part of the verse says, 00:52:40.52\00:52:45.23 basically saying the devil, the beast, and the false prophet 00:52:45.26\00:52:47.86 shall be tormented day and night, forever and ever. 00:52:47.93\00:52:50.80 So they're thinking because this is, you know, in the Bible that 00:52:50.83\00:52:54.60 it's taken literally to mean that they're actually tormented 00:52:54.64\00:52:58.44 forever, like-- 00:52:58.47\00:52:59.77 Jean: Let me say something about that. 00:52:59.81\00:53:01.21 That's a good question. 00:53:01.24\00:53:02.54 You know, there are some passages, especially in the book 00:53:02.58\00:53:03.91 of Revelation, where it talks about forever. 00:53:03.95\00:53:06.51 Now, we need to read "forever" in its context. 00:53:06.55\00:53:09.72 In the Bible, the word "forever" is used as long as life 00:53:09.75\00:53:13.49 shall last. 00:53:13.52\00:53:14.86 It does not mean eternal-- 00:53:14.89\00:53:16.22 not always, depends on the context. 00:53:16.26\00:53:18.93 So, in this context that's speaking about the devil and his 00:53:18.96\00:53:21.20 angels are cast into the lake of fire, they are 00:53:21.23\00:53:23.60 tormented forever, meaning as long as they live. 00:53:23.63\00:53:28.24 Now, it doesn't mean they're going to live eternally. 00:53:28.27\00:53:30.44 They're not going to live forever, but their torment will 00:53:30.47\00:53:32.71 last as long as their life lasts. 00:53:32.74\00:53:34.91 Why do we know that? 00:53:34.94\00:53:36.24 Because after the fire does its work, it says they will be 00:53:36.28\00:53:39.08 turned to ashes and then God creates a new earth wherein 00:53:39.11\00:53:42.88 dwells righteousness. 00:53:42.92\00:53:44.25 So they're not going to burn forever. 00:53:44.29\00:53:45.59 But it does appear from the verse that the devil and the 00:53:45.62\00:53:48.89 wicked will at least suffer a day and a night because it says 00:53:48.92\00:53:52.03 their torment will be day and night forever, meaning until 00:53:52.06\00:53:54.86 they die. 00:53:54.93\00:53:56.20 So the punishment will at least extend a day and a night, 00:53:56.23\00:53:58.73 maybe more. 00:53:58.77\00:54:00.14 We don't know. 00:54:00.17\00:54:01.47 The Bible doesn't say. 00:54:01.50\00:54:02.84 Everyone at the end will be rewarded according to or judged 00:54:02.87\00:54:04.31 according to their deeds. 00:54:04.34\00:54:05.74 The devil, he bears the responsibility for all the-- 00:54:05.77\00:54:08.64 that we see in the world, ultimately. 00:54:08.68\00:54:10.48 So he will be judged accordingly. 00:54:10.51\00:54:13.25 So the phrase "forever" doesn't always mean eternal. 00:54:13.28\00:54:16.35 It means as long as life lasts. 00:54:16.38\00:54:17.72 Alden: Or consumed until it's all gone. 00:54:17.75\00:54:19.85 Jean: Until it's--there's nothing left. 00:54:19.89\00:54:21.39 Alden: It's like a forever fireplace. 00:54:21.42\00:54:22.86 But when the wood's gone, it's--it's gone. 00:54:22.89\00:54:25.43 Jean: It's gone. 00:54:25.46\00:54:26.76 Doesn't burn anymore, right? 00:55:44.91\00:55:46.41 BALquestions.org. 00:55:46.44\00:55:48.54 And who do we have? 00:55:48.58\00:55:49.91 Alden: Well, the first question is "Matthew chapter 15:17 and 20 00:55:49.94\00:55:53.35 seems to imply that 'all meat is good to eat, because what goes 00:55:53.38\00:55:57.52 in the mouth doesn't defile.' 00:55:57.55\00:55:58.95 Can you explain why it does not mean that?" 00:55:58.99\00:56:01.96 Jean: Well, here is a story, just to give you a little bit of 00:56:01.99\00:56:03.99 a background. 00:56:04.03\00:56:05.36 The religious leaders and the Pharisees were accusing or 00:56:05.39\00:56:08.00 condemning the disciples because they were eating with 00:56:08.03\00:56:11.53 hands that had not been washed. 00:56:11.57\00:56:13.77 So the issue in question wasn't about what is, you know, clean 00:56:13.80\00:56:17.14 or unclean foods. 00:56:17.17\00:56:18.47 The issue was eating food with unwashed hands. 00:56:18.51\00:56:20.61 They were traveling, they grabbed something, and they ate 00:56:20.64\00:56:22.51 it, and they were making a big deal about it. 00:56:22.54\00:56:24.71 They said this was a sin. 00:56:24.75\00:56:26.08 And Jesus is saying, "Listen, it's not--it's not what goes 00:56:26.11\00:56:28.22 in," and he's not talking about what you eat. 00:56:28.25\00:56:30.25 He's talking about eating with unwashed hands. 00:56:30.29\00:56:32.49 He says, "It's not that that's important. 00:56:32.52\00:56:34.12 It's what comes out of the heart," all right? 00:56:34.16\00:56:36.46 So here is not a statement just turning over and saying, "Well, 00:56:36.49\00:56:38.99 you can eat anything you want. 00:56:39.03\00:56:40.33 You're not going to sick." 00:56:40.36\00:56:41.66 Remember, the health principles are there because God wants us 00:56:41.70\00:56:43.23 to be healthy. 00:56:43.26\00:56:44.60 That's the prime purpose. 00:56:44.63\00:56:46.27 Alden: Rosalind from Anguilla has a very good question. 00:56:46.30\00:56:48.60 She asked, "Will God answer prayers if I don't pay tithe?" 00:56:48.64\00:56:52.84 Jean: Will God answer prayers if you don't pay tithe? 00:56:52.87\00:56:55.01 Well, you know, the Bible does give a blessing, especially a 00:56:55.04\00:56:58.01 financial blessing, for those who are faithful in trusting God 00:56:58.05\00:57:02.18 and giving and returning one-tenth. 00:57:02.22\00:57:04.02 That is the tithe. 00:57:04.05\00:57:05.35 It's one-tenth. 00:57:05.39\00:57:06.72 And you know, I know so many stories of people who, you know, 00:57:06.76\00:57:08.89 stepped out in faith and said, "I'm going to trust the Lord. 00:57:08.92\00:57:11.29 I'm going to pay a tithe," and God blessed them. 00:57:11.33\00:57:14.00 Not always financially, but there was a blessing, whether it 00:57:14.00\00:57:16.36 was health or with relationships. 00:57:16.40\00:57:18.53 And so yes, if we want God's blessing and we want Him to 00:57:18.57\00:57:21.17 answer those prayers, well, let's be faithful. 00:57:21.20\00:57:23.71 If the Holy Spirit is convicting us of something that we need to 00:57:23.74\00:57:25.87 change, we need to make the change. 00:57:25.91\00:57:27.71 Alden: Here's a quick one here: "Why doesn't God ask the shoes 00:57:27.74\00:57:30.78 to be removed when He encountered Abraham and Balaam 00:57:30.81\00:57:33.92 like He did with Joshua and Moses?" 00:57:33.95\00:57:36.32 Jean: Yeah, that's a good question. 00:57:36.35\00:57:37.65 You know, it seems that back in Bible times, to remove your 00:57:37.69\00:57:40.59 shoes was an act of reverence. 00:57:40.62\00:57:43.12 You were standing on holy ground, and when God appeared to 00:57:43.16\00:57:45.56 Moses, said, "Take the sandals off your feet." 00:57:45.59\00:57:47.46 Part of the reason why that was said was that because God was 00:57:47.50\00:57:50.20 identifying who He was to Moses, so there'd be no doubt that this 00:57:50.23\00:57:54.00 is a divine being. 00:57:54.04\00:57:55.34 This is God communicating with him. 00:57:55.37\00:57:56.81 Same thing when God said to Joshua, "Take the sandals off 00:57:56.84\00:57:59.64 your feet," 00:57:59.67\00:58:01.04 He was identifying who He was. 00:58:01.08\00:58:02.84 And so, taking the sandals off the feet when God asked for it, 00:58:02.88\00:58:05.61 He was identifying who He is as a person. 00:58:05.65\00:58:08.38 Well, friends, that is it for this week's edition of "Bible 00:58:08.42\00:58:11.09 Answers Live." 00:58:11.12\00:58:12.45 We are so glad that you joined us. 00:58:12.49\00:58:13.79 We look forward next week when we'll be back to answer more of 00:58:13.82\00:58:16.42 your Bible questions. 00:58:16.46\00:58:17.76 God bless. 00:58:17.79\00:58:19.36 announcer: "Bible Answers Live," honest and accurate answers to 00:58:19.39\00:58:23.47 your Bible questions. 00:58:23.50\00:58:25.50
