00:00:51.31\00:00:54.28 Leeches are something like a combination of 00:00:54.32\00:00:57.39 a science fiction monster movie and like little vampires. 00:00:57.42\00:01:02.22 They survive by feeding on the blood of humans 00:01:02.26\00:01:04.33 and other animals. 00:01:04.36\00:01:06.06 They have ten sets of eyes but poor eyesight, 00:01:06.09\00:01:09.23 and they can go 6 months or more without feeding. 00:01:09.26\00:01:12.20 When leeches attach to their host, they pierce the skin with 00:01:12.23\00:01:16.24 long proboscis and inject a blood-thinning anticoagulant. 00:01:16.27\00:01:20.14 The host rarely feels the bite because the leech also has very 00:01:20.18\00:01:24.68 small and sharp teeth and an anesthetic in its saliva that 00:01:24.71\00:01:28.22 numbs the area that it pierces round the skin. 00:01:28.25\00:01:32.09 Once they lock on, they continue feeding until they've consumed 00:01:32.12\00:01:35.79 up to five times their body weight in blood. 00:01:35.82\00:01:38.83 The largest leech species is the giant amazon leech, 00:01:38.86\00:01:42.90 which can grow over 18 inches long and 4 inches wide. 00:01:42.93\00:01:47.87 I know it sounds strange, but physicians have been using 00:01:47.90\00:01:50.94 leeches in a variety of medical procedures for thousands 00:01:50.97\00:01:53.81 of years, and incredibly hospitals still order them today 00:01:53.84\00:01:58.11 for doctors to use in healing everything from eczema 00:01:58.15\00:02:01.52 to promote circulation in microsurgery. 00:02:01.55\00:02:04.65 Well, Pastor Carlos, who would ever think these slimy 00:02:04.69\00:02:09.29 little vampire worms could have a positive purpose? 00:02:09.32\00:02:13.23 Carlos Munoz: Yeah. 00:02:13.26\00:02:14.66 Reminds me in the Bible of sometimes some uncomfortable 00:02:14.73\00:02:17.00 situation that God uses to bring some healing into our lives. 00:02:17.03\00:02:21.37 Right? 00:02:21.40\00:02:23.30 Doug: Yeah, and, you know, sometimes a person might think 00:02:23.34\00:02:24.94 that there just not good enough, but God uses sinners that are 00:02:24.97\00:02:28.88 transformed to do a great work, which reminds me of a verse that 00:02:28.91\00:02:33.48 Paul shares in 1 Corinthians chapter 1, verse 26. 00:02:33.52\00:02:36.72 "For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise 00:02:36.75\00:02:40.66 according to the flesh, not many mighty, 00:02:40.69\00:02:43.02 not many noble, are called. 00:02:43.06\00:02:45.23 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to 00:02:45.26\00:02:48.40 shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the 00:02:48.43\00:02:51.73 world to put to shame the things that are mighty; and the base 00:02:51.77\00:02:54.67 things of the world and the things that are despised God has 00:02:54.70\00:02:57.94 chosen, and the things that are not, to bring to nothing the 00:02:57.97\00:03:01.78 things that are, that no flesh should glory in his presence." 00:03:01.81\00:03:05.58 The Lord can even use little worms, and He can use us. 00:03:05.61\00:03:10.12 That's a lesson in humility, which makes me think about the 00:03:10.15\00:03:14.79 ultimate condescension is when Jesus the King of the Universe, 00:03:14.82\00:03:20.16 Creator of All Things comes to earth and becomes a creation. 00:03:20.20\00:03:23.57 That'd be like you and I becoming a worm when you-- 00:03:23.60\00:03:26.13 or even less than that. 00:03:26.17\00:03:28.30 Yeah, and, you know, there's a lot of beautiful lessons 00:03:28.34\00:03:32.81 in the Bible about the humility of Christ and how 00:03:32.84\00:03:35.54 he laid aside his glory and came into this world. 00:03:35.58\00:03:38.05 And if you'd like to know more about that and how God can use 00:03:38.08\00:03:41.38 you--Jesus is an example, that he humbled himself and God did 00:03:41.42\00:03:45.15 great things, and he can do great things through you. 00:03:45.19\00:03:47.22 We have a free offer that we like to make available. 00:03:47.26\00:03:50.33 Carlos: Yes, that free offer is called "Down From His Glory." 00:03:50.36\00:03:54.60 "Down From His Glory," there's two ways you can receive it. 00:03:54.63\00:03:57.30 You can call us at 1-800-835-6747, ask for offer 00:03:57.33\00:04:02.77 154, give the title; or you can also--using your mobile phone 00:04:02.80\00:04:07.04 you can dial #250 on your mobile device 00:04:07.08\00:04:11.28 and say "Bible Answers Live" 00:04:11.31\00:04:13.21 and you will be able to obtain this free gift. 00:04:13.25\00:04:16.08 This is only in the United States, and free shipping is 00:04:16.12\00:04:18.39 in the United States, US territories, and Canada only. 00:04:18.42\00:04:21.22 And while we're at it, might as well give a good greetings 00:04:21.26\00:04:24.59 to those tuning in on Firstlight TV in New Zealand, 00:04:24.63\00:04:26.80 Hope channel worldwide, as well as MKTV in Michigan, so. 00:04:26.83\00:04:32.20 Doug: Amen, we got a lot of stations that air the program 00:04:32.23\00:04:35.14 live Sunday evening, and some of you may be listening to 00:04:35.17\00:04:37.57 a rebroadcast on a variety of stations both TV and radio. 00:04:37.61\00:04:42.54 The TV audience is actually growing, 00:04:42.58\00:04:44.38 and that's very exciting. 00:04:44.41\00:04:46.82 If you are watching on TV, you notice that Pastor Ross's voice 00:04:46.85\00:04:49.58 sounds a little different tonight. 00:04:49.62\00:04:51.62 That's because we have Pastor Carlos. 00:04:51.65\00:04:53.25 He's been in here with us many times. 00:04:53.29\00:04:55.09 Pastor Carlos is the director of our evangelism training program 00:04:55.12\00:04:58.69 better known as AFCOE, Amazing Facts Centers of Evangelism, 00:04:58.73\00:05:03.93 and also leading out in the Amazing Facts Latino work. 00:05:03.97\00:05:09.14 So any questions in Spanish tonight? 00:05:09.17\00:05:11.64 No, don't do that to us. 00:05:11.67\00:05:14.18 But why don't you have prayer for us, Pastor Carlos, 00:05:14.21\00:05:16.81 before we begin? 00:05:16.85\00:05:18.71 Carlos: Let's pray. 00:05:18.75\00:05:20.45 Father, we thank You for just the beautiful opportunity that 00:05:20.48\00:05:22.25 You give us to open Your Word and spend time with 00:05:22.28\00:05:24.32 those people that may have questions in their minds. 00:05:24.35\00:05:26.29 Just help them, Father, so that they can get connected with 00:05:26.32\00:05:28.39 us and that--You give us the discernment and Your wisdom 00:05:28.42\00:05:30.69 so that it'll be Your answers in perfect harmony 00:05:30.73\00:05:32.49 with Your Word for Your glory. 00:05:32.53\00:05:34.73 And so we thank You for this opportunity, 00:05:34.76\00:05:36.16 and we ask this in Jesus's name, amen. 00:05:36.20\00:05:38.17 Doug: Amen. 00:05:38.20\00:05:39.83 Carlos: All right, the first question we have is from 00:05:39.87\00:05:41.70 Isabella calling us from Texas. 00:05:41.74\00:05:44.14 Hello, Isabella. 00:05:44.17\00:05:46.14 You're on "Bible Answers Live." 00:05:46.17\00:05:48.24 Isabella: Hello. 00:05:48.28\00:05:49.81 I was wondering, what are the best evidences for the earth 00:05:49.84\00:05:53.75 being created in like 6 literal days, 00:05:53.78\00:05:57.12 and what does the Bible say about Scripture being literal? 00:05:57.15\00:06:00.79 Doug: Yeah, well, I think it's clear in the context when God 00:06:00.82\00:06:06.63 talks there in Genesis chapter 1 and 2 about the days 00:06:06.66\00:06:10.90 of creation, and I think the Hebrew word is yom. 00:06:10.93\00:06:13.03 The days of creation being 24-hour periods 00:06:13.07\00:06:16.14 because they're given sequentially. 00:06:16.17\00:06:18.84 It says the evening and the morning. 00:06:18.87\00:06:21.34 It also tells us God does not make the sun, the moon, 00:06:21.38\00:06:24.25 and the stars until the fourth day yet He's made the vegetation 00:06:24.28\00:06:27.68 on the third day. 00:06:27.72\00:06:29.62 If these were not literal days--well, a plant can live 00:06:29.65\00:06:32.89 for a few days without sunlight, but they can't live 00:06:32.92\00:06:35.36 for a few ages or millennia. 00:06:35.39\00:06:37.69 And the light that God has when He first says let there be light 00:06:37.73\00:06:41.30 is just the light of His glory, His presence. 00:06:41.33\00:06:43.67 The Bible says that God is light. 00:06:43.70\00:06:46.13 So there are several Scriptures that said in 6 days 00:06:46.17\00:06:48.44 the Lord created the heavens and the earth. 00:06:48.47\00:06:49.97 It's also repeated in the Sabbath command, 00:06:50.01\00:06:53.78 and just all through the Scriptures God reiterates that 00:06:53.81\00:06:58.81 He made the world in 6 days and it's never set forth as ages 00:06:58.85\00:07:03.18 or epochs of some form. 00:07:03.22\00:07:05.29 Carlos: Fun fact too is where did the 7-day week cycle 00:07:05.32\00:07:08.46 come from? 00:07:08.49\00:07:09.92 Doug: Yeah, all around the world. 00:07:09.96\00:07:11.56 Every nation has a 7-day week, and you can find reasons in 00:07:11.59\00:07:15.26 astronomy for a 365-day year. 00:07:15.30\00:07:18.50 It's what it takes for the earth to circle the sun. 00:07:18.53\00:07:21.07 You find reasons for most calendars having a 30-day month. 00:07:21.10\00:07:24.41 That's a lunar cycle. 00:07:24.44\00:07:26.27 There's no reason for a 7-day week and yet the world 00:07:26.31\00:07:29.74 all carries out a literal 7-day week. 00:07:29.78\00:07:33.18 Thank you. And that's just a start. 00:07:33.21\00:07:35.48 We've got a book called "The Wonders of Creation," 00:07:35.52\00:07:40.52 and it may address that question, Isabella. 00:07:40.56\00:07:42.72 Thank you. 00:07:42.76\00:07:44.86 Isabella: Thank you. 00:07:44.89\00:07:46.36 Carlos: All right. Next we have Ash from Florida. 00:07:46.39\00:07:48.66 First time caller. 00:07:48.70\00:07:50.10 Ash, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:07:50.13\00:07:51.93 Ash: Thank you. 00:07:51.97\00:07:53.27 My question is, what should a Christian do to mature 00:07:53.30\00:07:58.17 their relationship with God? 00:07:58.21\00:08:01.14 They've been in the church for a long time, 00:08:01.18\00:08:03.51 but they still keep commandments for self-preservation. 00:08:03.55\00:08:09.38 Doug: That's really a great question, 00:08:09.42\00:08:11.19 and we appreciate you asking that, Ash. 00:08:11.22\00:08:13.59 There's a lot of people out there and they're kind of going 00:08:13.62\00:08:15.76 to church out of obligation. 00:08:15.79\00:08:17.43 Now, there's nothing wrong with, you know, when a person first 00:08:17.46\00:08:21.20 comes to the Lord to be doing it because you're trying 00:08:21.23\00:08:25.23 to avoid trouble and you want to go to heaven. 00:08:25.27\00:08:27.54 You know, when we first start teaching children, 00:08:27.57\00:08:30.51 sometimes you have to start with some pretty basic motives. 00:08:30.54\00:08:33.84 You know, if they disobey, there's sometimes pain 00:08:33.88\00:08:36.18 or there's a reward for doing something right. 00:08:36.21\00:08:38.18 But as those children mature, you're hoping that they're going 00:08:38.21\00:08:41.88 to learn to obey their parents 'cause they love and trust their 00:08:41.92\00:08:44.49 parents and know that what they're asking in principle 00:08:44.52\00:08:48.02 is a good thing. 00:08:48.06\00:08:49.62 When we start out following the Lord, you know, 00:08:49.66\00:08:52.23 the Bible says repent lest you perish. 00:08:52.26\00:08:54.03 It's normal to not want to perish. 00:08:54.10\00:08:56.50 And Jesus tells about the reward for the righteous. 00:08:56.53\00:08:59.33 To desire those things is normal. 00:08:59.37\00:09:01.54 Even the disciples said, "Lord, what will we get?" 00:09:01.57\00:09:03.77 And they want to know, "What's our reward? 00:09:03.81\00:09:05.81 We left everything to follow You." 00:09:05.84\00:09:07.54 So there's nothing wrong with that, but as you 00:09:07.58\00:09:09.81 mature--ultimately a Christian needs to be motivated by love. 00:09:09.84\00:09:12.68 Bible says we love Him because He first loved us. 00:09:12.71\00:09:16.48 So the key, Ash, is that we might learn to love Him more. 00:09:16.52\00:09:20.29 And we read about Christ's love for us. 00:09:20.32\00:09:23.89 The better we know him, the more we love him. 00:09:23.93\00:09:26.09 So through reading the Word, through communion with God, 00:09:26.13\00:09:29.33 we fall in love with a person 'cause you talk to them. 00:09:29.36\00:09:31.60 We get to know Him better. 00:09:31.63\00:09:33.17 We love Him more. 00:09:33.20\00:09:34.74 We want to serve Him better. 00:09:34.77\00:09:36.54 It usually boils down to the three Christian disciplines of 00:09:36.57\00:09:39.81 reading the Word, prayer, and then being a witness. 00:09:39.84\00:09:45.51 As you lead others to Christ, you find real joy in that. 00:09:45.55\00:09:48.42 So yeah--and, you know, we have some booklets that talk about 00:09:48.45\00:09:53.15 how you can have a better relationship with the Lord. 00:09:53.19\00:09:55.79 Actually, there's that book called 00:09:55.82\00:09:57.83 "The Drummer Boys Prayer." 00:09:57.86\00:10:00.36 And if you read that, Ash, 00:10:00.40\00:10:01.86 I think it'll really encourage you. 00:10:01.90\00:10:03.30 It's called "The Drummer Boys Prayer." 00:10:03.33\00:10:05.03 Carlos: Amen. 00:10:05.07\00:10:06.47 Just a reminder of offer is 1-800-835-6747 for those offers. 00:10:06.50\00:10:10.31 Thank you very much, Ash. 00:10:10.34\00:10:12.07 Next we have Jerry calling us from Texas. 00:10:12.11\00:10:15.41 Welcome, Jerry. You're on the air. 00:10:15.44\00:10:17.98 Jerry: Hey, guys. 00:10:18.01\00:10:19.35 Hi, pastors. 00:10:19.38\00:10:20.72 I just want to get your take on this. 00:10:20.75\00:10:22.58 My question is in a way a two-part question, 00:10:22.62\00:10:24.92 but I'm going to maybe rephrase it in one part. 00:10:24.95\00:10:29.29 I have in Joshua 5:13 to 15 where you have Joshua meeting 00:10:29.32\00:10:34.30 the angel of the Lord before He took on Jericho. 00:10:34.30\00:10:40.47 And then also we have Abraham in the Bible. 00:10:40.50\00:10:44.07 He walked with God when he gave God a meal 00:10:44.11\00:10:47.54 and before Sodom and Gomorra was destroyed. 00:10:47.58\00:10:50.25 And then we have Jacob that wrestled with God, 00:10:50.28\00:10:54.42 and then after--I think this is the fourth time 00:10:54.45\00:10:58.69 you have the situation. 00:10:58.72\00:11:00.39 Manoah in Judges 13:15 to 20 when her and her husband met the 00:11:00.42\00:11:08.30 angel of the Lord and--but Moses only saw the backside of God, 00:11:08.33\00:11:14.00 and he was probably more godly than others. 00:11:14.04\00:11:17.74 Well, Abraham was godly. 00:11:17.77\00:11:20.08 Doug: So summarize your question. 00:11:20.11\00:11:23.08 Jerry: Oh, why would--why did Moses not get to see the Lord 00:11:23.11\00:11:27.05 as Abraham or Jacob or Joshua? 00:11:27.08\00:11:30.62 Doug: Or Joshua, these others. 00:11:30.65\00:11:32.35 Yeah, that's a good question. 00:11:32.39\00:11:34.36 There's a verse, and Pastor Carlos might have it more at his 00:11:34.39\00:11:36.73 fingertips, where it says no man has seen the Father at any time. 00:11:36.76\00:11:40.46 And Moses, we believe, he had seen God probably every bit as 00:11:40.50\00:11:44.80 good--or as well, I should say, as Joshua or Manoah or Jacob. 00:11:44.83\00:11:49.87 When Jacob wrestled, he said, "I have seen God." 00:11:49.90\00:11:52.14 They saw what we call a Christophany. 00:11:52.17\00:11:54.61 They saw a human incarnation of Christ where Christ came and he 00:11:54.64\00:11:58.55 appeared to Abraham, he appeared to Joshua, he appeared to Jacob. 00:11:58.58\00:12:01.65 But they were not seeing God in his glory. 00:12:01.68\00:12:04.89 And what Moses was asking--and it's funny 00:12:04.92\00:12:08.22 you would mention this. 00:12:08.26\00:12:09.79 Pastor Carlos and I just before we went on the air were talking 00:12:09.82\00:12:12.03 about Moses wanting to see the glory of God. 00:12:12.06\00:12:14.20 So that's very strange that you should ask that right now. 00:12:14.20\00:12:17.03 And--but when Moses was on the mountain, he was in the presence 00:12:17.07\00:12:20.77 of the Lord for 40 days twice. 00:12:20.80\00:12:23.10 So, you know, 80 days up in the mountain in the cloud of glory. 00:12:23.14\00:12:25.77 But he hadn't really seen the undiminished presence of the 00:12:25.81\00:12:29.58 Almighty unveiled, I should say, 'cause the Bible says no man can 00:12:29.61\00:12:34.18 see God is--even God said no man will see His face 00:12:34.22\00:12:37.12 in our mortal condition. 00:12:37.15\00:12:39.45 We cannot endure it. In heaven we will. 00:12:39.49\00:12:42.26 You read in Revelation, "And they will see His face." 00:12:42.29\00:12:44.69 We will see Him face to face in our glorified, 00:12:44.73\00:12:47.93 purified condition. 00:12:47.96\00:12:49.80 You find that verse? 00:12:49.83\00:12:51.73 Carlos: Yes, John 6:46, "Not that any man has seen the 00:12:51.77\00:12:53.94 Father, save he is that of God. 00:12:53.97\00:12:55.97 How he has seen the Father." 00:12:56.00\00:12:57.61 Only Jesus has. 00:12:57.64\00:12:59.07 Doug: So they probably saw what they call a pre-incarnation 00:12:59.11\00:13:02.84 appearance of Jesus. 00:13:02.88\00:13:04.95 That's why Jesus said, "Abraham saw my day, and he embraced it." 00:13:04.98\00:13:10.62 Thank you. 00:13:10.65\00:13:13.32 Appreciate that, Jerry. 00:13:13.36\00:13:15.19 Carlos: Next we have Junith. 00:13:15.22\00:13:16.96 Junith from Nevada, welcome. 00:13:16.99\00:13:18.56 You're on "Bible Answers Live." 00:13:18.59\00:13:20.46 Junith: Hello, Pastor Carlos and Pastor Doug. 00:13:20.50\00:13:25.03 Pastor Carlos, goodness notice to Pastor Doug, 00:13:25.07\00:13:30.37 but you can say yum, yum. 00:13:30.41\00:13:32.57 Anyway, thanks for taking my call. 00:13:32.61\00:13:35.81 My question is in the lens of the great controversy between 00:13:35.84\00:13:40.02 Christ and Satan, we know that the Christ is the head 00:13:40.05\00:13:45.32 of his body, who--now on the side of the enemy, 00:13:45.35\00:13:49.76 who is the body of the serpent? 00:13:49.79\00:13:52.99 Is it in the context of the kingdom of Babylonia in 00:13:53.03\00:13:57.83 the perspective of the Old Testament and the kingdom 00:13:57.87\00:14:02.90 of Jerusalem is the kingdom of God in that perspective? 00:14:02.94\00:14:07.71 Thank you for answering. 00:14:07.74\00:14:09.74 Doug: Yeah. We'll do our best. 00:14:09.78\00:14:11.58 I think what's happening here is when Jesus said, you know, 00:14:11.61\00:14:13.55 Christ is the head of his church, the body is the bride of 00:14:13.58\00:14:15.95 Christ, the people of Christ. 00:14:15.98\00:14:17.82 But there's another people. 00:14:17.85\00:14:19.79 There's only two groups in the world. 00:14:19.82\00:14:21.56 There's those that are on the straight road to salvation and 00:14:21.59\00:14:24.76 those on the broad road to destruction. 00:14:24.79\00:14:26.80 Jesus said, "If you're not with me, you're against me. 00:14:26.83\00:14:29.30 You're either part of the bride of Christ or you're part 00:14:29.33\00:14:32.20 of the children of Babylon." 00:14:32.23\00:14:34.57 As you mentioned, Junith, there's several titles. 00:14:34.60\00:14:36.94 Jesus said to the religious leaders, 00:14:36.97\00:14:39.21 "You are of your father the devil." 00:14:39.24\00:14:41.28 So the whole world is really divided into those either 00:14:41.31\00:14:44.85 surrendered to Christ or not. 00:14:44.88\00:14:47.78 They either know the Lord and they've accepted 00:14:47.82\00:14:50.75 the plan of salvation or not. 00:14:50.79\00:14:53.05 And, you know, there might be some well-intentioned people 00:14:53.09\00:14:55.79 that are on the wrong road, and that's why 00:14:55.82\00:14:58.69 we've got to let them know. 00:14:58.73\00:15:00.56 But yeah, that would be the body or the bride of the devil. 00:15:00.60\00:15:03.16 You've got two women in Revelation. 00:15:03.20\00:15:05.63 Revelation 12 you've got the bride of Christ. 00:15:05.67\00:15:08.10 Revelation 17 you've got the bride of the beast, so to speak. 00:15:08.14\00:15:11.54 Thank you, Junith. 00:15:11.57\00:15:13.44 Appreciate your call. 00:15:13.48\00:15:15.24 Carlos: Next we have Gary from Illinois. 00:15:15.28\00:15:16.95 Gary, you are on the air. 00:15:16.98\00:15:18.91 Welcome. 00:15:18.95\00:15:20.45 Gary: Thank you. 00:15:20.48\00:15:22.58 Christians as a group, they should be taking 00:15:22.62\00:15:24.52 climate change seriously. 00:15:24.55\00:15:26.29 It's the most pressing problem facing humanity. 00:15:26.32\00:15:29.19 Those that do, this is my question, will they be wearing 00:15:29.22\00:15:33.53 a crown of those people who drive hybrid cars 00:15:33.56\00:15:36.77 and plant trees and recycle? 00:15:36.80\00:15:39.37 I mean, that's what the church should emphasize and that-- 00:15:39.40\00:15:43.20 the earth is God's, and so that releases us from any, 00:15:43.24\00:15:46.94 you know, responsibility. 00:15:46.98\00:15:49.18 Okay, that's my question. 00:15:49.21\00:15:52.21 Doug: Okay, well, you know, certainly there are blessings 00:15:52.25\00:15:56.32 and benefits in every believer being responsible stewards 00:15:56.35\00:16:00.76 in many capacities and one, of course, being of the world. 00:16:00.79\00:16:05.49 You know, God gave Adam and Eve the world and He said that they 00:16:05.53\00:16:08.90 were to dress and to tend the garden. 00:16:08.93\00:16:11.37 They were to keep and take care of things, and--but 00:16:11.40\00:16:14.67 there's no salvation in being environmentally careful 'cause 00:16:14.70\00:16:21.71 I've got some dear friends that are very sensitive about 00:16:21.74\00:16:24.38 the environment but they don't accept Christ. 00:16:24.41\00:16:27.52 And so they're not going to be saved because 00:16:27.55\00:16:29.58 they drive a hybrid car. 00:16:29.62\00:16:31.95 You know, there's no salvation in saying, 00:16:31.99\00:16:34.76 "I'm going to plant a tree." 00:16:34.79\00:16:36.93 And of course there are people who claim to be Christians 00:16:36.96\00:16:40.10 that are not saved because their lives don't reflect 00:16:40.13\00:16:43.33 the principles of Christ. 00:16:43.37\00:16:45.33 But, you know, while there may be wonderful benefits 00:16:45.37\00:16:47.60 and blessings in being responsible stewards of 00:16:47.64\00:16:51.21 the planet, nobody's saved by that. 00:16:51.24\00:16:53.58 Salvation comes only through surrender to Christ and making 00:16:53.61\00:16:57.88 him the Lord of your life. 00:16:57.91\00:16:59.48 Carlos: Amen, it reminds me of Revelation 11:18. 00:16:59.51\00:17:01.42 It says that God is going to destroy those 00:17:01.45\00:17:03.12 that destroy the earth, right? 00:17:03.15\00:17:04.95 But not because the earth is--God came to save it, 00:17:04.99\00:17:07.59 but because you're making the situation 00:17:07.62\00:17:09.46 for everybody else that lives here. 00:17:09.49\00:17:11.56 You're causing harm on other humans, polluting the air, 00:17:11.59\00:17:14.10 polluting the water. 00:17:14.13\00:17:15.56 Doug: But you can't say--I'm just following up 00:17:15.60\00:17:17.70 on what you're saying. 00:17:17.73\00:17:19.33 While it is true God is destroying those that destroy 00:17:19.37\00:17:21.30 the earth, He's not saving those that save the earth. 00:17:21.34\00:17:23.64 So, you know, it's--it might sound like a double negative, 00:17:23.67\00:17:28.58 but hopefully that made sense. 00:17:28.61\00:17:30.45 Thank you very much. 00:17:30.48\00:17:31.88 Appreciate your call, Gary. 00:17:31.91\00:17:33.38 Carlos: Thank you, Gary. 00:17:33.42\00:17:34.88 Next we have Cindy from California. 00:17:34.92\00:17:36.52 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." Cindy: Thank you. 00:17:36.55\00:17:39.62 Good evening, Pastor Doug and Pastor Carlos. 00:17:39.65\00:17:41.12 Doug: Evening. Carlos: Hello. 00:17:41.16\00:17:43.39 Cindy: My question is, how do you determine what are okay 00:17:43.43\00:17:46.29 activities to do on the Sabbath? 00:17:46.33\00:17:48.50 When I was a kid, we were allowed to sit on the couch 00:17:48.53\00:17:51.80 and read the junior guide. 00:17:51.83\00:17:53.90 My example is, is it okay to cook for potluck, play in 00:17:53.94\00:18:01.11 the snow, which we just got a lot of this week 00:18:01.14\00:18:04.08 in Southern California? 00:18:04.11\00:18:05.75 Can you swim? 00:18:05.78\00:18:07.75 I mean, how do you determine what is okay and what's not? 00:18:07.78\00:18:11.29 Doug: Good, you know--and I don't often mention it, 00:18:11.32\00:18:14.39 but Amazing Facts does carry a book. 00:18:14.42\00:18:16.29 I wrote a little book because we get this question 00:18:16.32\00:18:18.13 a lot just being pastors. 00:18:18.16\00:18:19.89 What's a good way to--how do you keep the Sabbath holy? 00:18:19.93\00:18:22.00 And anyone out there, if you want you can call 00:18:22.03\00:18:25.00 and request that. 00:18:25.03\00:18:26.67 How do we keep the Sabbath holy? 00:18:26.70\00:18:28.30 But let me give you some quick principles. 00:18:28.34\00:18:30.81 You know, when folks say you shouldn't be cooking 00:18:30.84\00:18:33.31 on the Sabbath; well, you need to back these things up 00:18:33.34\00:18:36.64 with Scripture or at least scriptural principles. 00:18:36.68\00:18:38.98 Moses told the children of Israel, 00:18:39.01\00:18:41.15 "Gather your manna ahead of time. 00:18:41.18\00:18:43.85 There'll be no manna on Sabbath. 00:18:43.89\00:18:45.52 Bake what you're going to bake, boil what you're going to boil." 00:18:45.55\00:18:48.26 And that would mean as far as possible you'd want to get 00:18:48.29\00:18:51.53 all of your cooking done. 00:18:51.56\00:18:53.03 You know, there are some things that just for the practicality 00:18:53.06\00:18:55.16 of it you might need to still do in food preparation 00:18:55.20\00:18:57.47 so you can present it in a helpful, fresh way on Sabbath. 00:18:57.50\00:19:01.54 But you should get all of the cooking you possibly 00:19:01.57\00:19:04.07 can done out of the way 'cause it's a day of rest. 00:19:04.11\00:19:07.58 If you're doing all the work of every other day, 00:19:07.61\00:19:09.14 it sort of loses the blessing of rest and freedom. 00:19:09.18\00:19:11.38 When it comes to getting out in nature, 00:19:11.41\00:19:13.62 that's a wonderful thing. 00:19:13.65\00:19:15.02 You know, if you're walking up a trail and the kids on 00:19:15.05\00:19:17.85 a summer day want to cool their feet in the creek, that's great. 00:19:17.89\00:19:20.26 But--you know, I'm a parent. 00:19:20.29\00:19:22.52 It can turn into a swimming party pretty quick. 00:19:22.56\00:19:25.36 And, you know, as soon as they say, "Well, if I can get in 00:19:25.39\00:19:27.36 my--up to my ankles, can I get in up to my knees?" 00:19:27.40\00:19:30.00 And next thing they're doing cannonballs off the rocks and 00:19:30.03\00:19:32.20 having--playing water polo. 00:19:32.23\00:19:34.24 So, you know, you just--you have to have some boundaries 00:19:34.27\00:19:37.34 or things can get out of hand. 00:19:37.37\00:19:39.44 You know, after church, even at our church, the kids all get 00:19:39.47\00:19:43.11 outside and they got ants in their pants 00:19:43.14\00:19:44.85 and they want to run around. 00:19:44.88\00:19:46.18 That's fine. 00:19:46.21\00:19:47.52 But then I saw them the other day 00:19:47.55\00:19:48.85 and they brought a soccer ball. 00:19:48.88\00:19:50.22 I said, "Guys, let's put that away. 00:19:50.25\00:19:51.79 It's not supposed to turn into a World Cup game." 00:19:51.82\00:19:54.22 So you just need to pray you can have wisdom 00:19:54.26\00:19:58.49 and know how to discern. 00:19:58.53\00:20:00.63 Carlos: Yeah, and I remember the story in Mark 3 00:20:00.66\00:20:02.40 when Jesus heals a guy with a dry hand. 00:20:02.43\00:20:03.87 He says it's good to do good on Sabbath, right? 00:20:03.90\00:20:06.20 Doug: Heal people. Visit people. 00:20:06.23\00:20:07.77 Get out in nature, give. 00:20:07.80\00:20:09.70 Carlos: Bible studies. Doug: Yeah. 00:20:09.74\00:20:12.31 There's even, I think, some appropriate games you could 00:20:12.34\00:20:14.94 play with your kids that would like teach them Bible memory 00:20:14.98\00:20:17.21 or something. 00:20:17.25\00:20:18.78 So you keep their minds engaged. 00:20:18.81\00:20:20.42 That's--the big challenge is often with the kids. 00:20:20.45\00:20:22.68 The adults have no problem sleeping, taking a nap, 00:20:22.72\00:20:26.39 but the kids, they want to get out and do something. 00:20:26.42\00:20:28.86 You got to have some good activities for them. 00:20:28.89\00:20:30.99 Carlos: And you have to plan it, right? 00:20:31.03\00:20:32.69 You can't--you have to plan during the week, 00:20:32.73\00:20:34.83 "What am I going--how am I going to get my kids 00:20:34.86\00:20:36.46 to be excited about the Sabbath?" 00:20:36.50\00:20:37.83 Doug: Exactly. 00:20:37.87\00:20:39.17 You don't want to start remembering 00:20:39.20\00:20:40.54 the Sabbath Friday evening. 00:20:40.57\00:20:41.94 You want to remember it on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. 00:20:41.97\00:20:44.21 Carlos: Or make the Sabbath everything about, 00:20:44.24\00:20:46.11 "No, you can't do this. No, no, no." 00:20:46.14\00:20:48.24 But they're delighting in it, right? 00:20:48.28\00:20:49.91 Doug: You want them to be excited when it comes 00:20:49.94\00:20:51.68 and sad when it goes. 00:20:51.71\00:20:53.65 Carlos: Amen, amen, all right. Thank you very much, Cindy. 00:20:53.68\00:20:56.89 Next we have Anthony from New York. 00:20:56.92\00:20:59.09 Anthony, you are on the air. Welcome. 00:20:59.12\00:21:03.49 Anthony: Yes. Good evening, pastors. 00:21:03.53\00:21:05.46 I was going to say something in Spanish, 00:21:05.49\00:21:07.40 but one of the previous callers beat me to it, but-- 00:21:07.40\00:21:09.56 Carlos: Pastor Doug knows Spanish. 00:21:09.60\00:21:12.47 Don't be surprised. 00:21:12.50\00:21:17.14 Anthony: Good stuff. Yeah. 00:21:17.17\00:21:19.54 Well, I'll try to make my question as brief as possible. 00:21:19.57\00:21:24.48 I'm going to give a little short background, but--so Hezekiah 00:21:24.51\00:21:29.52 was considered to be a righteous king, I know, in chapter 18. 00:21:29.55\00:21:35.52 But then in 2 Kings chapter 20, he--the Lord through the prophet 00:21:35.56\00:21:40.60 Isaiah that he was going to die. 00:21:40.63\00:21:45.10 Verse 2 he says he turned his face to the wall 00:21:45.13\00:21:48.20 and prayed into the Lord. 00:21:48.24\00:21:49.64 Verse 3 says he wept sore. 00:21:49.67\00:21:52.24 He asked God to let him live. 00:21:52.27\00:21:53.91 So God did allow him to live and he lived for another 15 years, 00:21:53.94\00:21:57.91 but unfortunately he ended up marring his weakness 00:21:57.95\00:22:02.45 as a result of living longer, so much and is. 00:22:02.48\00:22:07.86 You know, we sometimes have loved ones or even ourselves 00:22:07.89\00:22:11.16 we may be sick unto death, right? 00:22:11.19\00:22:12.79 Terminal illness. 00:22:12.83\00:22:14.56 So when should we pray fervently or bitterly as Hezekiah did 00:22:14.60\00:22:18.83 and ask God for healing and to let us live, and when should we 00:22:18.87\00:22:22.40 accept impending death as His will and that He might 00:22:22.44\00:22:26.47 just be protecting us from something in our future? 00:22:26.51\00:22:29.44 Doug: Yeah. That's a good question. 00:22:29.48\00:22:31.71 You know, we often as pastors go and you pray by the bedside 00:22:31.75\00:22:34.42 of somebody that is sick. 00:22:34.45\00:22:36.12 We have occasional anointing services 00:22:36.15\00:22:38.49 and pray for their healing. 00:22:38.52\00:22:40.42 But whenever we do that, we should always say, 00:22:40.46\00:22:42.76 "Thy will be done." 00:22:42.79\00:22:44.63 You know, that's in the Lord's Prayer. 00:22:44.66\00:22:46.76 Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven should be a daily 00:22:46.80\00:22:50.03 prayer in every situation. 00:22:50.07\00:22:52.33 I think the normal thing for us to do is to pray for healing. 00:22:52.37\00:22:55.94 That's why the Bible commands us. 00:22:55.97\00:22:57.51 Is anyone sick? 00:22:57.54\00:22:58.91 Call together the elders, pray that they might be healed. 00:22:58.94\00:23:01.01 Jesus went around healing. 00:23:01.04\00:23:02.68 And so God wants us to pray for healing for a full life. 00:23:02.71\00:23:06.78 Now, that doesn't mean--I had a sister in our church that when 00:23:06.82\00:23:09.72 she got to be, you know, like 93 she says, "Pastor Doug, 00:23:09.75\00:23:12.89 I want you to come pray for my healing." 00:23:12.92\00:23:14.56 I said, "Well, I can do that." 00:23:14.59\00:23:16.32 But I said, "First, let me ask, do you think there's a 00:23:16.36\00:23:18.36 connection between your hearing issues and being 93?" 00:23:18.39\00:23:21.63 She gave me a big smile. 00:23:21.66\00:23:23.16 She said, "Are you telling me I'm getting old?" 00:23:23.20\00:23:24.83 I says, "I didn't say that." 00:23:24.87\00:23:26.80 But, you know, at some point life sort of runs its course. 00:23:26.84\00:23:30.91 And I think most of the healing that you see in the Bible is to 00:23:30.94\00:23:35.94 give a person a normal life, you know, a normal lifespan. 00:23:35.98\00:23:40.85 And when people are in the final ages and stages of life, 00:23:40.88\00:23:46.25 you commit them to God's care. 00:23:46.29\00:23:49.09 You can always ask them to lengthen his trans--lengthen 00:23:49.12\00:23:52.03 their tranquility and give them a little more time 00:23:52.06\00:23:55.06 for some reason, but always say, "Thy will be done." 00:23:55.10\00:23:58.27 Hey, thank you. 00:23:58.30\00:24:00.47 Appreciate that, Anthony. 00:24:00.50\00:24:02.37 Carlos: We have Frank from New York. 00:24:02.40\00:24:04.07 Frank, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:24:04.11\00:24:05.61 You're on the air. 00:24:05.64\00:24:07.28 Frank: Yes. 00:24:07.31\00:24:08.78 Good evening, Pastor Doug and Pastor Carlos. 00:24:08.81\00:24:13.11 My question for both of you-- 00:24:13.15\00:24:16.92 or both gentlemen is of the following. 00:24:16.95\00:24:20.22 I don't understand where it says in Scripture that a person who's 00:24:20.26\00:24:26.66 not baptized and who believes they're saved and they're a 00:24:26.70\00:24:30.27 Christian who believes in God and the holy Bible cannot really 00:24:30.30\00:24:37.01 be lived throughout life and enter the kingdom of God 00:24:37.04\00:24:40.21 without being baptized. 00:24:40.24\00:24:42.94 Is that scripturally correct, or do you have to live 00:24:42.98\00:24:45.91 with baptism to actually believe in Scripture? 00:24:45.95\00:24:49.65 Because when I was a child--an infant, I was baptized and then 00:24:49.68\00:24:55.09 I never believed in God after that until they forced me to 00:24:55.12\00:24:57.83 believe in receiving a--you cannot mention religions over 00:24:57.86\00:25:02.80 the--on your show, but they forced me to receive a form of 00:25:02.83\00:25:09.87 Christian adoration of God through my second level 00:25:09.90\00:25:13.21 of sacramental life. 00:25:13.24\00:25:15.64 So can you live without baptism throughout your entire life 00:25:15.68\00:25:18.58 without baptism? 00:25:18.61\00:25:21.45 Doug: All right, let's talk about that. 00:25:21.48\00:25:22.88 Good question. 00:25:22.92\00:25:24.45 First of all, let's answer it this way, Frank. 00:25:24.49\00:25:26.99 There will be some people in heaven that were not baptized 00:25:27.02\00:25:31.03 clearly because--well, the thief on the cross next to Christ, 00:25:31.06\00:25:34.00 he couldn't be baptized. 00:25:34.03\00:25:36.67 Jesus said, "You'll be with me." 00:25:36.70\00:25:38.13 I think Christ gave him credit for his baptism, 00:25:38.17\00:25:40.47 and then you've got all these Old Testament characters 00:25:40.50\00:25:42.77 that will be in heaven. 00:25:42.80\00:25:44.47 They didn't practice baptism all through the Old Testament. 00:25:44.51\00:25:46.68 So for those living in the New Testament times, it's pretty 00:25:46.71\00:25:50.25 clear that baptism is like a marriage between a believer 00:25:50.28\00:25:55.32 in Christ, and Jesus says in Mark chapter 16-- 00:25:55.35\00:25:58.12 and you might jot this down, E. Frank. 00:25:58.15\00:26:00.19 Mark chapter 16, verse 16, "He who believes 00:26:00.22\00:26:03.66 and is baptized will be saved. 00:26:03.69\00:26:06.33 He who does not believe will be condemned." 00:26:06.36\00:26:09.16 Notice he puts a pretty high priority on believing and being 00:26:09.20\00:26:11.50 baptized, but then he adds he that does not believe. 00:26:11.53\00:26:15.24 He doesn't say and is not baptized will be condemned. 00:26:15.27\00:26:18.34 Believing is the big emphasis. 00:26:18.37\00:26:20.64 But when Jesus sent out the apostles he said, 00:26:20.68\00:26:22.91 "Go teach in all nations, baptizing them in the name 00:26:22.94\00:26:26.41 of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit." 00:26:26.45\00:26:28.18 And then Peter preaching at Pentecost in Acts chapter 2. 00:26:28.22\00:26:31.52 When they said, "Men and brethren, 00:26:31.55\00:26:33.36 what shall we do to be saved?" 00:26:33.39\00:26:34.99 He said, "Repent and be baptized for the remission of sins." 00:26:35.02\00:26:39.19 Ananias said to Paul, "Arise and be baptized and wash away 00:26:39.23\00:26:43.93 your sins, calling on the Lord." 00:26:43.97\00:26:46.17 So all through the New Testament there's a great deal of emphasis 00:26:46.20\00:26:49.74 on baptism, and that's not the baptism that an infant 00:26:49.77\00:26:53.38 would receive 'cause that's not Bible baptism. 00:26:53.41\00:26:56.51 It's a decision you make as an adult to follow the example 00:26:56.54\00:27:00.95 of Jesus, have your sins washed away, to be filled 00:27:00.98\00:27:03.89 with the Holy Spirit, and commit your life to Him. 00:27:03.92\00:27:06.45 You need to be able to believe, repent, be taught; 00:27:06.49\00:27:09.62 and babies can't do these things. 00:27:09.66\00:27:11.93 You're--technically you're dedicated as a baby. 00:27:11.96\00:27:14.56 Jesus was dedicated as a baby, 00:27:14.60\00:27:17.10 but he wasn't baptized till he was 30. 00:27:17.13\00:27:18.93 He did that as an adult. 00:27:18.97\00:27:20.74 So technically, E. Frank, you probably never were really 00:27:20.77\00:27:23.27 baptized, though that's the term that's used. 00:27:23.30\00:27:25.61 A lot of people call that baptism. 00:27:25.64\00:27:27.61 It's really a dedication. 00:27:27.64\00:27:29.31 You need to make the decision to be baptized. 00:27:29.34\00:27:31.91 All right. 00:27:31.95\00:27:33.62 That's all the time we've got for this segment of questions. 00:27:33.65\00:27:35.52 We're coming back in just a moment. 00:27:35.55\00:27:36.89 Don't go anywhere. 00:27:36.92\00:27:38.25 More Bible questions on the way, 00:27:38.29\00:27:39.59 and you can still call in for the second half of the program. 00:27:39.62\00:27:42.02 announcer: Stay tuned, Bible Answers Live" 00:27:45.43\00:27:47.36 will return shortly. 00:27:47.40\00:27:49.13 Doug: Hi, friends. have Ruth calling us from North Carolina. 00:31:13.54\00:31:15.64 Hello, Ruth. 00:31:15.67\00:31:17.01 You are on the air. 00:31:17.04\00:31:18.71 Ruth: Oh, hi. 00:31:18.74\00:31:20.24 Good evening, Pastor Doug and Pastor Carlos. 00:31:20.28\00:31:22.98 May God bless your ministry. 00:31:23.01\00:31:24.61 We always pray and support your ministry. 00:31:24.65\00:31:26.72 So we are thankful for both of you--all of you. 00:31:26.75\00:31:29.38 I have a question regarding Math--Mark 16:19, and that 00:31:29.42\00:31:34.69 question is I thought Jesus--I studied a 2,300-day prophecy, 00:31:34.72\00:31:39.63 but I always get confused because I believe Jesus to be 00:31:39.66\00:31:43.67 in the most holy place. 00:31:43.70\00:31:47.20 And after he ascended to heaven, according to Mark 16:9, it says 00:31:47.24\00:31:53.74 he sat at the right hand of God and I thought the right hand of 00:31:53.78\00:31:58.55 God meant the most holy place, and I was like--I always had the 00:31:58.58\00:32:02.85 idea, according to Scripture, that he went to the holy place. 00:32:02.88\00:32:06.35 And then in 1844 according to the 2300-day prophecy, he went 00:32:06.39\00:32:11.46 to the holy--to the most holy to cleanse the sanctuary. 00:32:11.49\00:32:15.36 So that's where my confusion is. 00:32:15.40\00:32:17.63 I don't know you guys understand my question. 00:32:17.67\00:32:19.57 Doug: No, I do; I think your question makes sense. 00:32:19.60\00:32:21.64 First, let me give you a couple of thoughts. 00:32:21.67\00:32:23.94 When Jesus first ascended to heaven following his sacrifice 00:32:23.97\00:32:28.74 when it was declared successful and effective--remember 00:32:28.78\00:32:32.48 he told Mary, "Do not cling to me." 00:32:32.51\00:32:34.45 This is John 20, I believe. 00:32:34.48\00:32:36.35 He said, "Don't cling to me for I've not yet ascended 00:32:36.38\00:32:37.85 to my Father, but go and tell my brethren I ascend to my God 00:32:37.89\00:32:41.29 your God, my father your father." 00:32:41.32\00:32:43.56 When Jesus ascended and he sat down, that meant 00:32:43.59\00:32:47.66 he was enthroned as victorious over the devil and ransoming-- 00:32:47.66\00:32:54.10 recapturing our planet that had been hijacked, so to speak. 00:32:54.14\00:32:59.21 And so there was an enthroning that happened immediately 00:32:59.24\00:33:01.74 upon his ascension. 00:33:01.78\00:33:03.45 That doesn't mean that his work as our high priest in 00:33:03.48\00:33:06.75 the first apartment of the heavenly sanctuary, 00:33:06.78\00:33:08.92 that first phase was obscured in some way. 00:33:08.95\00:33:13.09 And I think we've got to kind of defuse ourself of the idea that 00:33:13.12\00:33:16.42 Jesus was somehow handcuffed in one room of this heavenly temple 00:33:16.46\00:33:21.40 for 2,000 years or that the Father couldn't see him 00:33:21.43\00:33:24.87 'cause there's a veil or something between them. 00:33:24.90\00:33:26.97 The Bible says a veil is removed in Christ, and while Christ 00:33:27.00\00:33:29.87 is still in his first role of ministry doesn't mean 00:33:29.90\00:33:33.48 he can't see the Father. 00:33:33.51\00:33:34.88 He's in the presence of God in the heavenly dwelling place, 00:33:34.91\00:33:38.51 this heavenly sanctuary; but the heavenly sanctuary 00:33:38.55\00:33:41.82 is so infinitely more majestic and bigger than the model 00:33:41.85\00:33:45.55 they had here on earth. 00:33:45.59\00:33:47.12 So yeah, the--he's in the presence of 00:33:47.16\00:33:49.76 the glory of the Father. 00:33:49.79\00:33:51.46 He went into a final phase of that ministry in 1844 00:33:51.49\00:33:56.53 when the age of Laodicea began and is still there now, 00:33:56.56\00:34:00.70 and he'll soon stand up, say, "It is finished." 00:34:00.74\00:34:03.51 And that's when things get hairy and scary on earth 00:34:03.54\00:34:07.74 and the plagues fall. 00:34:07.78\00:34:09.68 By the way, I was just looking in Acts chapter 7. 00:34:09.71\00:34:12.08 Notice it says in--in 1 Peter he's gone into heaven. 00:34:12.11\00:34:14.45 He's at the right hand of God. 00:34:14.48\00:34:16.95 Mark says he's sitting at the right hand of God. 00:34:16.99\00:34:20.42 Luke 7 says, "Being full of the Holy Spirit, 00:34:20.46\00:34:23.09 Stephen gazes into heaven. 00:34:23.12\00:34:24.79 He saw the glory of God, Jesus standing 00:34:24.83\00:34:27.03 at the right hand of God." 00:34:27.03\00:34:28.66 Right hand is a sign of favor, a sign of strength. 00:34:28.70\00:34:31.70 It doesn't mean that Jesus is consigned 00:34:31.73\00:34:33.97 to one side of the Lord. 00:34:34.00\00:34:37.34 Carlos: Yeah, and intercession too, 00:34:37.37\00:34:39.01 which is ongoing until he returns. 00:34:39.04\00:34:40.78 Doug: Yeah, he ever lives to make intercession for us. 00:34:40.81\00:34:43.28 Thank you. Good question, Ruth. 00:34:43.31\00:34:44.85 Carlos: Good evening, Sophia. 00:34:44.88\00:34:47.05 You are on "Bible Answers Live." 00:34:47.08\00:34:49.65 Welcome. 00:34:49.68\00:34:51.55 Sophia: Good evening, Pastor Doug. 00:34:51.59\00:34:52.95 Good evening, Pastor Carlos. 00:34:52.99\00:34:55.36 I wanted to find out--there's a verse, Proverbs 18 and verse 21, 00:34:55.39\00:35:01.20 death and life are in the power of the tongue. 00:35:01.23\00:35:04.37 Now, I've heard many interpretations saying that we 00:35:04.40\00:35:07.44 can speak things over our lives. 00:35:07.47\00:35:09.57 Like if I lie about being sick, then I can become sick because I 00:35:09.60\00:35:13.34 spoke it over my life, or I can speak bad things over my life. 00:35:13.38\00:35:19.51 But is this what the verse is saying? 00:35:19.55\00:35:23.02 Doug: You know, I don't think that's the principal meaning 00:35:23.05\00:35:25.65 of the verse. 00:35:25.69\00:35:27.12 I think Solomon is talking about--that our words 00:35:27.16\00:35:30.09 can give life or death. 00:35:30.13\00:35:32.93 You know, there's a--and he also talks about the power of a king. 00:35:32.96\00:35:35.73 You know, like Nebuchadnezzar, he would speak and someone 00:35:35.76\00:35:37.80 was executed. 00:35:37.83\00:35:39.13 He'd speak, someone else was promoted; 00:35:39.17\00:35:40.94 and that was in the power of the tongue. 00:35:40.97\00:35:42.44 James tells us that the tongue is extremely powerful and, 00:35:42.47\00:35:45.71 you know, it can set a forest on fire, so to speak, of trouble. 00:35:45.74\00:35:50.28 But the words that you speak carefully-- 00:35:50.31\00:35:52.95 this is also in Proverbs. 00:35:52.98\00:35:54.68 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold 00:35:54.72\00:35:57.82 and pictures of silver. 00:35:57.85\00:35:59.82 And so when it says that life and death is in the power 00:35:59.85\00:36:03.12 of the tongue, you can speak words of encouragement 00:36:03.16\00:36:06.23 and life to people and hope. 00:36:06.26\00:36:09.10 Jesus, he gave life in his tongue. 00:36:09.13\00:36:11.47 Pilate gave death when he declared him to be condemned. 00:36:11.50\00:36:17.74 Now, there is some truth. 00:36:17.77\00:36:20.11 Jesus said, "Be it unto you according to your faith." 00:36:20.14\00:36:23.04 It is often true that, you know, if people are negative and they 00:36:23.08\00:36:27.82 don't believe, sometimes they get what they don't believe. 00:36:27.85\00:36:31.05 That doesn't mean that we get to choose what's going to happen 00:36:31.09\00:36:33.52 by speaking things, but you got to be careful what you say 00:36:33.56\00:36:36.19 'cause you can be influenced by your own words. 00:36:36.22\00:36:38.26 Christ talks about--you know, 00:36:38.29\00:36:40.83 it's like a self-fulfilling prophecy. 00:36:40.86\00:36:42.63 Be it unto you according to your faith. 00:36:42.66\00:36:44.27 So I do think Christians should be positive, and I do think 00:36:44.30\00:36:47.20 that we should try to be encouraging and remember 00:36:47.24\00:36:49.84 that we are affected by our own words. 00:36:49.87\00:36:52.91 But this verse, I think, is really talking about 00:36:52.94\00:36:55.24 just the power of speech for good or evil. 00:36:55.28\00:36:57.15 Carlos: Yeah, and Matthew 12:37 says, "For by your words you 00:36:57.18\00:36:59.91 will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." 00:36:59.95\00:37:02.05 Doug: Good point. Yeah, of course. 00:37:02.08\00:37:03.72 Carlos: Thank you, Sophia. 00:37:03.75\00:37:05.39 Next we have Tammy from Washington. 00:37:05.42\00:37:07.29 Doug: Pardon me. 00:37:07.32\00:37:08.82 Pastor Carlos, we have a booklet, and it's called "Tiny 00:37:08.86\00:37:14.00 Tail Bearers" and it's about the tongue--the power of the tongue. 00:37:14.03\00:37:17.17 And we'll send you a free copy. 00:37:17.20\00:37:19.40 We don't often get that request, 00:37:19.43\00:37:21.77 but we do have a good sermon book on that. 00:37:21.80\00:37:23.27 Carlos: And just a reminder, for offers: 1-800-835-6747 00:37:23.30\00:37:26.81 or your mobile phone dial #250 and say "Bible Answers Live." 00:37:26.84\00:37:31.98 Next we have Tammy from Washington. 00:37:32.01\00:37:34.52 You are on "Bible Answers Live." 00:37:34.55\00:37:36.89 Welcome, Tammy. 00:37:36.92\00:37:38.69 Tammy: Hello, Pastor Doug and Pastor Carlos. 00:37:38.72\00:37:41.16 I have an interesting question. 00:37:41.19\00:37:44.63 I know in heaven that we're--you know, when we come down to 00:37:44.66\00:37:49.56 the new earth we're going to be building our own houses, 00:37:49.60\00:37:52.80 we're going to be growing our own food, 00:37:52.83\00:37:55.17 we're going to be tending animals. 00:37:55.20\00:37:57.97 Well, my question relates to the last part of that. 00:37:58.01\00:38:01.94 I want to know, are our beloved pets that we have here on earth 00:38:01.98\00:38:06.35 going to be in heaven with us? 00:38:06.38\00:38:09.55 Doug: That's a great question, and don't feel like 00:38:09.58\00:38:11.65 it's an odd question. 00:38:11.69\00:38:14.06 We actually get that question probably two or three times 00:38:14.09\00:38:16.86 a year, which is understandable because people love their pets 00:38:16.89\00:38:21.33 and there's nothing wrong with that. 00:38:21.36\00:38:23.63 In fact, the Bible says a righteous man regards the life 00:38:23.67\00:38:27.17 of his beast, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. 00:38:27.20\00:38:30.97 Righteous people care about their animals, and the Bible 00:38:31.01\00:38:34.24 tells us--even in the Ten Commandments it says that 00:38:34.28\00:38:36.58 on the Sabbath your ox and your donkey shall rest. 00:38:36.61\00:38:39.61 God cares about them resting. 00:38:39.65\00:38:41.45 In the Book of Jonah God says to Jonah, 00:38:41.48\00:38:43.65 "You don't care about the Ninevites dying. 00:38:43.69\00:38:46.02 What about all the animals in the city, 00:38:46.05\00:38:47.72 don't you care about them?" 00:38:47.76\00:38:49.32 So, you know, God loves animals. 00:38:49.36\00:38:51.86 He's the one that made them. 00:38:51.89\00:38:53.76 Originally, Adam and Eve were to not only tend the garden, 00:38:53.80\00:38:56.50 but they were to befriend all of the creatures. 00:38:56.53\00:38:59.53 They would be wonderful friends and the delight of Adam and Eve. 00:38:59.57\00:39:04.54 You give a kid a puppy and you'll see 00:39:04.57\00:39:06.84 what I'm talking about. 00:39:06.88\00:39:08.21 So God understands. 00:39:08.24\00:39:10.35 And then we build relationships, you know, with our animals, 00:39:10.38\00:39:12.68 and I, like you--I'm assuming, Tammy, have had, you know, 00:39:12.71\00:39:15.68 pets and dogs and cats that you grow attached to and you love, 00:39:15.72\00:39:18.85 and their lives are not as long as ours and then you lose them 00:39:18.89\00:39:21.89 and it's so sad and you think, "Well, I ever see them again?" 00:39:21.92\00:39:24.73 I can't tell you about a Scripture that says God is going 00:39:24.76\00:39:28.76 to resurrect our pets, but I also can't tell you he won't. 00:39:28.80\00:39:33.64 So we may be very surprised when we get to the kingdom to find 00:39:33.67\00:39:37.61 out that God has given Spot and our kitty little 00:39:37.64\00:39:43.01 glorified bodies and raise them. 00:39:43.04\00:39:45.28 We don't know that. 00:39:45.31\00:39:46.72 The one thing I will promise, nobody in heaven is going 00:39:46.75\00:39:49.52 to be disappointed. 00:39:49.55\00:39:51.02 So just get there. 00:39:51.05\00:39:52.99 God said there's things you can't even imagine that He has 00:39:53.02\00:39:54.79 for those that love Him, but I can't point you to a Scripture 00:39:54.82\00:39:57.26 that says He's going to resurrect our pets. 00:39:57.29\00:39:59.76 Thank you. Carlos: Thank you. 00:39:59.79\00:40:02.46 Next we have Marvin calling us from Montreal, Canada. 00:40:02.50\00:40:04.57 Welcome, Marvin. You're on the air. 00:40:04.60\00:40:06.77 Marvin: Good evening, Pastor Doug and Pastor Carlos. 00:40:06.80\00:40:09.80 Doug: Evening. 00:40:09.84\00:40:11.74 Marvin: My question is about Isai--sorry-- 00:40:11.77\00:40:18.98 Isaiah 57, verse 1 and 2. 00:40:19.01\00:40:25.92 I just want to--more explanation about this verse. 00:40:25.95\00:40:31.63 Doug: Yeah, all right. Let's read it for our listeners. 00:40:31.66\00:40:33.96 It says in Isaiah 57, verse 1 and 2, "The righteous perishes, 00:40:34.00\00:40:37.77 and no man takes it to heart; merciful men are taken away, 00:40:37.80\00:40:41.97 while no one considers that the righteous 00:40:42.00\00:40:44.71 is taken away from evil. 00:40:44.74\00:40:46.78 He shall enter into peace; and they shall rest in their beds, 00:40:46.81\00:40:49.34 each one walking in his uprightness." 00:40:49.38\00:40:51.91 Well, you know, in the time of Isaiah, there was a lot of war. 00:40:51.95\00:40:56.89 They were also facing the Babylonians that were going 00:40:56.92\00:40:59.75 to eventually come and destroy the city. 00:40:59.79\00:41:01.69 Isaiah foretold that. 00:41:01.72\00:41:03.32 But they were being attacked also from the Assyrians 00:41:03.36\00:41:05.96 in the north. 00:41:05.99\00:41:07.73 Isaiah lived and prophesied during the reign of three kings, 00:41:07.76\00:41:11.77 and a couple of them were not very good. 00:41:11.80\00:41:14.77 Hezekiah was good. 00:41:14.80\00:41:16.47 His son was not good, Manasseh. 00:41:16.50\00:41:18.84 And Isaiah's saying, "You know, no one considers 00:41:18.87\00:41:20.88 that the righteous people are being taken away. 00:41:20.91\00:41:22.48 And why is this happening?" 00:41:22.51\00:41:24.05 Some of the righteous were being laid in their graves so they 00:41:24.08\00:41:26.58 would not witness the terrible things that were going to come 00:41:26.61\00:41:30.49 upon the kingdom, especially 00:41:30.52\00:41:32.55 during the long reign of Manasseh. 00:41:32.59\00:41:34.66 And sometimes God lays a person in their grave not as a judgment 00:41:34.69\00:41:39.39 but as a blessing to spare them from some plague. 00:41:39.43\00:41:43.77 And just before the Lord comes, there'll be some that I think 00:41:43.80\00:41:46.67 will be laid to their rest that they're spared 00:41:46.70\00:41:49.34 from the seven last plagues. 00:41:49.37\00:41:51.11 So thank you. Marvin, I appreciate that. 00:41:51.14\00:41:53.74 Appreciate your call. 00:41:53.78\00:41:56.24 Carlos: Next we have from Australia Joan. 00:41:56.28\00:41:58.35 Joan is calling us. 00:41:58.38\00:41:59.91 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:41:59.95\00:42:01.42 You're on the air. Joan: Hi, how are you? 00:42:01.45\00:42:03.95 Doug: Good., thank you, Joan. And your question? 00:42:03.99\00:42:07.39 Joan: My question tonight is, did God's hand intervene and 00:42:07.42\00:42:14.10 put the blessing--to put the blessing on Jacob and not 00:42:14.13\00:42:18.97 Esau because Isaac was thinking of his stomach? 00:42:19.00\00:42:23.27 Doug: Yeah. 00:42:23.30\00:42:25.17 Well, I think that God actually blessed Jacob because he had 00:42:25.21\00:42:31.21 predetermined that Jacob was more interested in the spiritual 00:42:31.25\00:42:35.45 blessing than the monetary one. 00:42:35.48\00:42:37.82 Usually the firstborn son--you know, Jacob and Esau were twins, 00:42:37.85\00:42:40.36 but Esau was slightly older. 00:42:40.39\00:42:42.96 So technically he got a double portion of his father's goods. 00:42:42.99\00:42:46.16 But Jacob knew that it was foretold the Messiah was going 00:42:46.19\00:42:50.97 to come through the descendants of Isaac his father. 00:42:51.00\00:42:54.10 Jacob wanted this spiritual blessing. 00:42:54.14\00:42:56.91 Now, proof of this is that after the years that Jacob spent away 00:42:56.94\00:42:59.91 from home, he came home. 00:42:59.94\00:43:02.04 He gave like 10% of everything he owned to his brother. 00:43:02.08\00:43:04.98 He wasn't interested in his father's inheritance; he was 00:43:05.01\00:43:07.85 interested in the spiritual blessing, and that's why he 00:43:07.88\00:43:10.62 manipulated his brother into selling him the birthright and 00:43:10.65\00:43:14.99 then he tricked--with the help of his mother he tricked his 00:43:15.02\00:43:17.26 father into blessing him. 00:43:17.29\00:43:18.79 The idea of Isaac eating before he blessed him was ac custom. 00:43:18.83\00:43:23.57 I don't think it's 'cause Isaac was, you know, 00:43:23.60\00:43:25.70 preoccupied with his stomach. 00:43:25.73\00:43:27.64 They often had a feast before they had a covenant, 00:43:27.67\00:43:30.64 and that was very common. 00:43:30.67\00:43:33.14 Even Jesus, they had a last supper at the time 00:43:33.17\00:43:35.68 of the new covenant. 00:43:35.71\00:43:37.05 So the Passover was a feast connected with a covenant. 00:43:37.08\00:43:41.62 You know, Isaac probably was hungry and he loved the special 00:43:41.65\00:43:45.72 kind of food, but I don't think you could say 00:43:45.75\00:43:48.72 that that's why Isaac--I'm sorry. 00:43:48.76\00:43:50.89 Jacob got the blessing. 00:43:50.93\00:43:52.59 Carlos: Yeah, next we have David from here in California. 00:43:52.63\00:43:54.73 David, welcome. 00:43:54.73\00:43:56.06 You're on "Bible Answers Live." 00:43:56.10\00:43:57.93 David: Hey, thanks for taking the call, Pastor Doug 00:43:57.97\00:44:00.57 and Carlos, and thanks for the show. 00:44:00.60\00:44:02.20 Really appreciate it. 00:44:02.24\00:44:03.77 Question about the dead and the first resurrection. 00:44:03.81\00:44:08.11 So it says the dead will know not. 00:44:08.14\00:44:11.68 It says when Jesus come, archangel, 00:44:11.71\00:44:13.18 all will hear his voice. 00:44:13.21\00:44:14.55 The dead will rise first. 00:44:14.58\00:44:15.95 So does--so will the dead basically have die three times 00:44:15.98\00:44:20.82 or the dead just hear him coming but they got to stay 00:44:20.86\00:44:25.26 in the ground, in the pit? 00:44:25.29\00:44:27.40 What happens to the unrighteous? 00:44:27.46\00:44:30.77 Doug: Yeah, well, the unrighteous are that you die 00:44:30.80\00:44:34.17 the first death, but then the Bible says the unrighteous 00:44:34.20\00:44:37.04 are raised in judgment at the end of the 1,000 years. 00:44:37.07\00:44:40.11 They're then judged. 00:44:40.14\00:44:41.74 Because they're not in the book of life they are cast into the 00:44:41.78\00:44:44.61 lake of fire, and the Bible says in Revelation 20 this 00:44:44.65\00:44:47.38 is the second death. 00:44:47.42\00:44:49.02 Now, the only ones that might experience a third death, 00:44:49.05\00:44:52.19 so to speak, are--well, a couple of categories. 00:44:52.22\00:44:55.56 One, if Jesus had risen someone from the dead and then they died 00:44:55.59\00:44:58.83 lost, then they get resurrected again, judged and die again. 00:44:58.86\00:45:01.76 So they die three times. 00:45:01.80\00:45:03.67 And then the people that are judged or that were judging 00:45:03.70\00:45:07.54 Jesus like the high priest, he's going to be raised to see Christ 00:45:07.57\00:45:11.91 come, then he'll die again at the second coming. 00:45:11.94\00:45:14.68 Then he's raised at the end of the millennium, 00:45:14.71\00:45:16.61 judged and thrown in the lake of fire. 00:45:16.64\00:45:18.68 That would be those who executed Christ. 00:45:18.71\00:45:21.05 It says those that pierced him. 00:45:21.08\00:45:23.49 And Christ said, "You will see the son of man coming 00:45:23.52\00:45:26.12 on the right hand of power." 00:45:26.15\00:45:27.59 So--but that's a very small group of people. 00:45:27.62\00:45:30.69 Most people that are lost, they just experience 00:45:30.73\00:45:33.36 the second death. 00:45:33.40\00:45:35.10 Carlos: Yes, and that verse is Matthew 26, verse 64. 00:45:35.13\00:45:37.47 Doug: About Caiaphas. Yeah, thank you. 00:45:37.50\00:45:39.93 Appreciate that, David. Good question. 00:45:39.97\00:45:41.64 Carlos: There we go. 00:45:41.67\00:45:43.41 Diane from British Columbia, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:45:43.44\00:45:45.74 You're on the air. 00:45:45.77\00:45:47.48 Diane: Thank you for taking the call. 00:45:47.51\00:45:48.84 I appreciate it. 00:45:48.88\00:45:50.55 Doug: Thank you. 00:45:50.58\00:45:51.98 Now, you may be on a speaker phone. 00:45:52.01\00:45:53.55 Get real close to your phone 'cause you sound far away. 00:45:53.58\00:45:55.58 Diane: Okay. Sorry about that. 00:45:55.62\00:45:57.99 Doug: That's good. 00:45:58.02\00:45:59.59 Diane: I have a question about Daniel 11:40. 00:45:59.62\00:46:02.12 Doug: Oh, don't ask that question. 00:46:02.16\00:46:03.86 Sorry. No, that's a good question. 00:46:03.89\00:46:06.63 We're just not sure. It's a difficult subject. 00:46:06.66\00:46:08.90 Go ahead. I'll let you finish. 00:46:08.93\00:46:10.27 I interrupted you. 00:46:10.30\00:46:11.60 Diane: Yeah. 00:46:11.63\00:46:13.10 I was just wondering about who is the king of the south. 00:46:13.13\00:46:15.30 Doug: All right. 00:46:15.34\00:46:16.67 Pastor Carlos, you want to take your first stab at it? 00:46:16.71\00:46:18.41 This is one of the most hotly-debated subjects among 00:46:18.44\00:46:20.61 theologians and--but we'll share with you some of the ideas 00:46:20.64\00:46:25.31 that are out there. 00:46:25.35\00:46:26.85 Go ahead. You should get started. 00:46:26.88\00:46:28.92 Carlos: So there's two kings in Daniel 11 at the end in 00:46:28.95\00:46:31.19 verse 40, the king of the north and the king of the south. 00:46:31.22\00:46:33.05 We know that literally the king of the north would represent 00:46:33.09\00:46:36.39 Babylon, the king of the south would represent Egypt--Sodom 00:46:36.42\00:46:40.56 as it's mentioned in the Book of Revelation. 00:46:40.60\00:46:42.43 So we know the king of the north would represent the Babylonian 00:46:42.46\00:46:44.37 system power that appears in the Book of Revelation 00:46:44.40\00:46:47.80 as the end-time religious order. 00:46:47.84\00:46:50.57 And then the king of the south, there's two main interpretations 00:46:50.61\00:46:54.04 in regards to the south; the representation of the immorality 00:46:54.08\00:46:57.31 in the world, the secular world that'll be combating 00:46:57.35\00:47:01.22 as we see it today in society and still till the end. 00:47:01.25\00:47:04.35 And then there's another interpretation. 00:47:04.39\00:47:06.09 I know Jean Ross falls in line with this, is that the south 00:47:06.12\00:47:09.06 represents Islam coming and battling 00:47:09.09\00:47:11.33 against Christianity too, so-- 00:47:11.36\00:47:12.96 Doug: Yeah, and I'm inclined that's--I guess I lean that way 00:47:12.99\00:47:15.56 and I don't--you know, this is something that, as Paul said, 00:47:15.60\00:47:18.00 we don't say by command but by permission. 00:47:18.03\00:47:19.83 You see that the king of the north, and I would agree 00:47:19.87\00:47:23.71 with Carlos, is sort of apostate Christianity, Babylon, and-- 00:47:23.74\00:47:27.04 but there are two children of Abraham 00:47:27.08\00:47:29.64 that are tracked through the Bible. 00:47:29.68\00:47:31.15 We see Islam in earlier places in Revelation 9 and it is 00:47:31.18\00:47:35.02 the second largest religion in the world, and there have been 00:47:35.05\00:47:38.05 numerous wars and there's conflict today. 00:47:38.09\00:47:40.72 And the nations that are mentioned in the end of Daniel, 00:47:40.76\00:47:44.26 if you being literal at all, Edom, Moab, Libya, Egypt, 00:47:44.29\00:47:47.60 so forth, they're all Islamic principally. 00:47:47.60\00:47:51.40 And so you just wonder if there'll be some final 00:47:51.43\00:47:53.84 earthly conflict along with the spiritual conflict. 00:47:53.87\00:47:58.14 So some of that remains to be seen, but that's-- 00:47:58.17\00:48:03.11 those are a couple of principled views out there. 00:48:03.14\00:48:05.38 And thank you, Diane. 00:48:05.41\00:48:07.25 Hope that made a little bit of sense. 00:48:07.28\00:48:08.95 Carlos: Thank you, Diane. 00:48:08.98\00:48:10.72 Next we have Raymond from Michigan. 00:48:10.75\00:48:15.16 Raymond, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:48:15.19\00:48:16.76 You're on the air. 00:48:16.79\00:48:18.29 Raymond: Hello, pastors. 00:48:18.33\00:48:19.69 How are you both doing tonight? 00:48:19.73\00:48:21.13 Doug: Wonderful. 00:48:21.16\00:48:23.10 Raymond: That's good. That's good. 00:48:23.13\00:48:24.87 My question is, does it say what type--or what kind of language 00:48:24.90\00:48:29.30 will we be speaking in heaven? 00:48:29.34\00:48:32.41 Doug: All right. 00:48:32.44\00:48:34.38 Pastor Carlos is probably going to say Spanish 00:48:34.41\00:48:36.04 is the language of heaven. 00:48:36.08\00:48:38.11 Raymond: Yes, yes. I've heard that before. 00:48:38.15\00:48:40.28 Doug: And it is a whole lot easier to learn than English 00:48:40.32\00:48:43.22 from what I understand 'cause I grew up speaking English. 00:48:43.25\00:48:45.65 It was easier for me, but when--I learned some 00:48:45.69\00:48:48.42 Spanish 'cause the rules were much more consistent. 00:48:48.46\00:48:50.66 And you know--you've actually taught in English and Spanish, 00:48:50.69\00:48:54.00 so you've probably run into all of the conundrums. 00:48:54.00\00:48:56.67 But I don't think we'll speak either in heaven. 00:48:56.70\00:48:59.37 There's some language--all the languages of the world somehow 00:48:59.40\00:49:02.77 sprang from a mother tongue that was spoken in the Garden of 00:49:02.80\00:49:05.81 Eden, and at the Tower of Babel that language got confounded. 00:49:05.84\00:49:11.58 Now, you can find similarities between a number of languages 00:49:11.61\00:49:14.35 around the world. 00:49:14.38\00:49:16.05 So as the people scattered from the Tower of Babel they took 00:49:16.08\00:49:19.05 some maybe common words, but we don't know exactly 00:49:19.09\00:49:23.09 what that language of Canaan is going to be. 00:49:23.12\00:49:25.73 But it'll be beautiful. 00:49:25.76\00:49:27.46 Carlos: I've always thought it might be Hebrew because when 00:49:27.50\00:49:29.83 it says--in the Tower of Babel it says He confused the tongues 00:49:29.86\00:49:32.83 of those that were working in the tower. 00:49:32.87\00:49:34.84 So could it be that Hebrew was the original language and then-- 00:49:34.87\00:49:38.57 Doug: Seth and some of his followers did not--or Shem, 00:49:38.61\00:49:40.81 rather, and some of his followers did not get involved 00:49:40.84\00:49:43.55 in the corruption and their language did not get confounded. 00:49:43.58\00:49:46.51 That's an interesting theory. 00:49:46.55\00:49:48.05 That may be. 00:49:48.08\00:49:49.75 Of course, it's sure hard to speak Hebrew. 00:49:49.78\00:49:51.59 Got a lot of kind of-- Yeah. 00:49:51.62\00:49:55.46 Anyway--but yeah, it'll be--you know, they say one reason that 00:49:55.49\00:50:00.16 English is an international language is over the years 00:50:00.20\00:50:03.90 English has developed so many words to describe things. 00:50:03.93\00:50:07.54 There are more words in English to describe things with greater 00:50:07.57\00:50:10.94 detail, and I think the language of heaven is going to have all 00:50:10.97\00:50:15.14 kinds of nuances we don't even know now to say things. 00:50:15.18\00:50:17.78 So it's going to be very beautiful and very expressive, 00:50:17.81\00:50:19.88 whatever it is. 00:50:19.91\00:50:21.42 Thank you. Good question. 00:50:21.45\00:50:23.25 Carlos: Next we have Nathan from California. 00:50:23.28\00:50:25.19 Nathan, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:50:25.22\00:50:26.92 You're on the air. 00:50:26.96\00:50:28.49 Nathan: Hello. 00:50:28.52\00:50:29.86 How should I respond to people that say biblical--the Bible 00:50:29.89\00:50:32.89 isn't trustworthy because it was written by men because they're 00:50:32.93\00:50:36.87 fallible and stuff? 00:50:36.90\00:50:38.23 Like, you know-- 00:50:38.27\00:50:39.60 Doug: Yeah, well, I would say, is there anything 00:50:39.63\00:50:41.77 that men do that they trust? 00:50:41.80\00:50:44.01 Just because the Bible was written by men--I mean, if you 00:50:44.04\00:50:48.44 get into a car accident and you've got to go to the hospital 00:50:48.48\00:50:52.81 and you've got to have your leg set, you're probably not going 00:50:52.85\00:50:56.22 to try and set your broken leg yourself. 00:50:56.25\00:50:58.15 You're going to have to entrust that to men and you're going to 00:50:58.19\00:51:00.62 say, "Well, they've studied it and they've passed on a lot of 00:51:00.66\00:51:02.66 knowledge, and they can do that pretty well." 00:51:02.69\00:51:05.56 Because men do something doesn't mean that it's all flawed. 00:51:05.59\00:51:08.30 All the technology we're using right now has been created 00:51:08.33\00:51:12.13 by men and most of it is pretty dependable. 00:51:12.17\00:51:14.30 Now, with the Bible, it wasn't normal men. 00:51:14.34\00:51:17.14 The Bible says holy men spoke as they were moved 00:51:17.17\00:51:20.88 by the Holy Ghost. 00:51:20.91\00:51:22.51 These are unusual people that are filled with the Holy Spirit. 00:51:22.54\00:51:25.58 And so the Holy Spirit is involved in 00:51:25.61\00:51:27.35 also preserving the Bible. 00:51:27.38\00:51:29.35 Now, some ways we know that the Bible is still accurate is God 00:51:29.38\00:51:33.72 arranged for Scriptures to be hidden before Christ was 00:51:33.76\00:51:37.03 born--about 200 years before Christ was born hidden in 00:51:37.06\00:51:39.83 the desert, and then 2,000 years later those Scriptures 00:51:39.86\00:51:43.77 are rediscovered. 00:51:43.80\00:51:45.17 And we compare these Old Testament Scriptures that had 00:51:45.20\00:51:48.00 been hidden in jars, the Dead Sea Scrolls, for 2,000 years 00:51:48.04\00:51:51.47 with the versions of the Hebrew Bible that we have today and 00:51:51.51\00:51:55.28 we see that they're virtually identical and it just increases 00:51:55.31\00:51:58.51 our--and I've been to see the Dead Sea Scrolls and had my 00:51:58.55\00:52:02.72 guide who spoke ancient Hebrew read right off of them, and 00:52:02.75\00:52:06.69 I know my Bible pretty well, and he was reading right off the 00:52:06.72\00:52:09.06 scroll of Isaiah the story of Hezekiah, and Sennacherib, 00:52:09.09\00:52:12.83 Rabshakeh and it's just like my Bible. 00:52:12.86\00:52:14.93 So, of course, he had to translate it as he read it into 00:52:14.96\00:52:18.50 English; but yeah, the Bible has been miraculously preserved. 00:52:18.53\00:52:23.27 Carlos: Yeah. Do we have a resource? 00:52:23.30\00:52:26.01 Doug: Yeah, we've got a book called "The Ultimate Resource." 00:52:26.04\00:52:29.14 It's on the Bible. 00:52:29.18\00:52:30.78 We'll send you a free copy, "The Ultimate Resource." 00:52:30.81\00:52:32.68 Just ask for that when you call, Nathan. 00:52:32.71\00:52:34.48 Thank you. 00:52:34.52\00:52:35.85 We can get one more question in, pastor? 00:52:35.88\00:52:37.19 Carlos: Yes, we can. 00:52:37.22\00:52:38.62 Peyton from California, welcome. 00:52:38.65\00:52:40.32 First-time caller. 00:52:40.36\00:52:41.69 You're on "Bible Answers Live." 00:52:41.72\00:52:43.56 Peyton: Hello. Good evening, pastors. 00:52:43.59\00:52:45.69 Doug: Evening. Carlos: Hello. 00:52:45.73\00:52:47.83 Peyton: So my question is, what are the signs 00:52:47.86\00:52:49.66 of the second coming? 00:52:49.70\00:52:51.13 Would it be soon due to the current morality of the world? 00:52:51.17\00:52:53.94 And I say it as kind of a two-part question because I am 00:52:53.97\00:52:57.14 in the military and I'm kind of stuck in a sense and I would 00:52:57.17\00:53:00.38 like to pick up and move on to country living, but it seems 00:53:00.41\00:53:03.75 quite difficult considering, you know, everything going on 00:53:03.78\00:53:06.61 in current society-- 00:53:06.65\00:53:08.32 Doug: Amen. Well, don't go AWOL, Peyton. 00:53:08.35\00:53:11.99 But there are a lot of signs and, as you mentioned, 00:53:12.02\00:53:17.96 one of them is the morality. 00:53:17.99\00:53:20.10 You know, Jesus said before he comes it'll be like it was 00:53:20.13\00:53:22.26 in the days of Lot and Noah, and there was violence. 00:53:22.30\00:53:26.37 You know, people were all entertained with violence and 00:53:26.40\00:53:29.04 not only--he said there'd be wars and rumors of wars. 00:53:29.07\00:53:31.27 We got rumors of nuclear war right now. 00:53:31.31\00:53:33.81 They would have the immorality that they had in Sodom and 00:53:33.84\00:53:37.01 Gomorrah, which is of course, you know, international 00:53:37.05\00:53:39.35 and rampant right now. 00:53:39.38\00:53:40.82 And then Christ said the gospel of the kingdom would be preached 00:53:40.85\00:53:43.89 in all the world. 00:53:43.92\00:53:45.39 Well, now through the internet and radio and television, 00:53:45.42\00:53:47.96 satellite, we have the technology that human walls 00:53:47.99\00:53:52.03 cannot stop the proclamation of the gospel. 00:53:52.06\00:53:54.73 Even these broadcasts right now through the internet are going 00:53:54.73\00:53:57.97 into so many different countries and the gospel is being preached 00:53:58.00\00:54:01.67 in all the world. 00:54:01.70\00:54:02.94 And so there's a number of signs that the Lord gives us that his 00:54:02.97\00:54:06.31 coming is near. 00:54:06.34\00:54:08.01 One of them is he says there'll be pestilence. 00:54:08.04\00:54:10.21 That's plagues. 00:54:10.25\00:54:11.88 We just came through a global pandemic. 00:54:11.91\00:54:14.15 And so--you know, and it says in Revelation 00:54:14.18\00:54:16.72 the Euphrates river will dry up. 00:54:16.75\00:54:18.52 Of course there's a spiritual application to that, but I think 00:54:18.55\00:54:20.46 it's interesting the Euphrates river is drying right now. 00:54:20.49\00:54:22.69 So it might be a dual prophecy there. 00:54:22.72\00:54:25.43 Anyway, Peyton, so there's a lot of things. 00:54:25.46\00:54:27.40 You just put your life in God's hands and say, "Lord, 00:54:27.46\00:54:30.03 I want to put You first, and I'd like to live in the country." 00:54:30.07\00:54:34.70 Of course, country living is not going to save you. 00:54:34.74\00:54:36.94 Having a beautiful place in the country and food stored away 00:54:36.97\00:54:39.84 is not going to save us in the last days. 00:54:39.87\00:54:41.98 It'll be a lot easier than those who are stuck in the cities 00:54:42.01\00:54:45.25 when, you know, bedlam breaks out. 00:54:45.28\00:54:47.72 But ultimately God can save you. 00:54:47.75\00:54:50.69 The safest place to be is in the middle of His will. 00:54:50.72\00:54:53.99 And, friends, I hope everyone listening is in the hollow of 00:54:54.02\00:54:57.36 His hand right now. 00:54:57.39\00:54:58.76 As you can hear, our program is up for tonight. 00:54:58.79\00:55:00.90 Go to the website AmazingFacts.org. 00:55:00.93\00:55:03.77 Share all those resources with your friends, and we'll study 00:55:03.80\00:55:07.00 His Word together with you again next week. 00:55:07.04\00:55:09.34 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:12.77\00:55:15.51 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:15.54\00:55:19.11 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:19.15\00:55:22.92 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:22.95\00:55:27.42 Doug: Welcome back, listening friends. 00:55:29.09\00:55:30.66 For those who stayed by, this is the time we do some quick 00:55:30.69\00:55:33.56 internet questions that came in. 00:55:33.60\00:55:35.36 And, Pastor Carlos, if someone wants to send us a question, 00:55:35.40\00:55:38.40 how do they do that? 00:55:38.43\00:55:39.87 Carlos: You can email us at BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:39.90\00:55:44.84 That's BALquestions@amazingfacts.org, 00:55:44.87\00:55:48.81 and we might read your question on live next week. 00:55:48.84\00:55:51.88 Doug: Let's see how many we can get in in 2 minutes here. 00:55:51.91\00:55:54.72 Carlos: First one, "During Noah's time, did God limits 00:55:54.75\00:55:56.89 man's lifespan to 120 years?" 00:55:56.92\00:55:59.22 Because Noah lived to be 950? 00:55:59.25\00:56:01.59 Doug: No, it's saying when God says, "My Spirit will not always 00:56:01.62\00:56:04.79 strive with man," and this is Genesis chapter 6, 00:56:04.83\00:56:07.36 "his days will be 120 years." 00:56:07.40\00:56:09.60 That means before the flood God was going to give them 00:56:09.63\00:56:11.83 120 years of probation. 00:56:11.87\00:56:14.17 People live much longer than that even after the flood. 00:56:14.20\00:56:16.57 So that's not talking about their lifespan, it was 00:56:16.60\00:56:19.24 talking about probationary time before the flood. 00:56:19.27\00:56:22.08 Carlos: Yes, next question, "Were Joseph and Mary married 00:56:22.11\00:56:24.81 when Mary conceived Jesus." 00:56:24.85\00:56:27.08 Doug: No, they were what we would call engaged. 00:56:27.12\00:56:30.52 They had signed a betrothal covenant, and Joseph was about 00:56:30.55\00:56:34.86 to break that off 'cause he thought that Mary had come up 00:56:34.89\00:56:37.73 pregnant from normal means and God said, "Don't do it. 00:56:37.76\00:56:41.00 She's conceived by the Holy Spirit." 00:56:41.03\00:56:42.53 But they were engaged. 00:56:42.56\00:56:44.20 They were not married yet. 00:56:44.23\00:56:45.57 Carlos: Next question, "Is it a sin to be rich?" 00:56:45.60\00:56:49.24 Doug: Well, it could be for some people. 00:56:49.27\00:56:51.21 Jesus said that it's hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom, 00:56:51.24\00:56:54.18 and the Bible says strive not to be rich. 00:56:54.21\00:56:57.71 That should not be our goal. 00:56:57.75\00:56:59.58 But certainly there are a number of rich people in the Bible that 00:56:59.61\00:57:02.02 we expect to see in heaven, everyone from Abraham 00:57:02.05\00:57:04.19 to Solomon to David to Job. 00:57:04.22\00:57:06.49 You just don't want to love riches. 00:57:06.52\00:57:09.02 The Bible says the love of money is the root of all evil. 00:57:09.06\00:57:11.63 Carlos: "Ezekiel 39:11 talks about fire descending from 00:57:11.66\00:57:14.76 heaven to destroy the wicked." 00:57:14.83\00:57:16.13 The question is, "Will there be a cemetery in the new earth, 00:57:16.16\00:57:18.30 or has this prophecy already fulfilled in the past?" 00:57:18.33\00:57:21.64 Doug: Well, that is a future prophecy when God rains fire 00:57:21.67\00:57:24.71 down from heaven to devour the wicked, and then you read-- 00:57:24.74\00:57:27.68 it says that in Malachi chapter 4 00:57:27.71\00:57:30.38 the wicked will be burnt up root and branch. 00:57:30.41\00:57:33.45 So all over the face of the earth where the wicked are 00:57:33.48\00:57:35.85 consumed, Malachi says you'll go forth from the new Jerusalem. 00:57:35.88\00:57:38.89 You will tread down the wicked. 00:57:38.92\00:57:40.59 They will be ashes under the soles of your feet. 00:57:40.62\00:57:43.16 So I guess you could say that it's kind of a cremation all 00:57:43.19\00:57:47.93 over the world, but it's going to be grass. 00:57:47.96\00:57:50.23 The meek will inherit the earth. 00:57:50.27\00:57:52.10 Carlos: Last question, "Was Jesus like 00:57:52.13\00:57:53.84 any other regular child?" 00:57:53.87\00:57:56.81 Doug: Yeah, good question. 00:57:56.84\00:57:58.57 In the sense that he did need to learn to walk 00:57:58.61\00:58:00.98 and talk as babies do. 00:58:01.01\00:58:02.91 He needed his parents to love and cleanse him, 00:58:02.94\00:58:05.61 and he had to learn to do things that children do. 00:58:05.65\00:58:08.62 Yes, he never sinned. He never disobeyed. 00:58:08.65\00:58:11.19 He was filled with the Holy Spirit from his mother's womb. 00:58:11.22\00:58:14.06 All right, listening friends, time's up. 00:58:14.09\00:58:16.09 God bless. 00:58:16.12\00:58:17.66 Look forward to studying with you next week. 00:58:17.69\00:58:20.00 announcer: "Bible Answers Live," 00:58:21.06\00:58:22.63 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:22.66\00:58:27.54
