Father in Heaven. 00:02:03.39\00:02:06.02 what a blessing and a privilege it is to be with my friends here 00:02:06.05\00:02:09.78 and I know that I have friends, we have friends that are viewing 00:02:09.81\00:02:14.19 this program and I thank You for that 00:02:14.22\00:02:16.27 and I pray that you push the evil angels away. 00:02:16.30\00:02:18.44 I pray that You'll send Your Spirit upon each and every 00:02:18.47\00:02:21.05 Viewer that's watching. Open them to Genesis 19. 00:02:40.73\00:02:43.94 While you're doing that, I'm gonna get it on the 00:02:43.97\00:02:45.27 screen here. Genesis 19 and you know, 00:02:45.30\00:02:49.24 as you- as you are getting there Mark, would you, 00:02:49.27\00:02:52.40 since you are a Pastor give us some little synopsis about this 00:02:52.43\00:02:55.24 Sodom and Gomorrah, before we get started. 00:02:55.27\00:02:57.76 >>Well, in Genesis 19 verse 1, the Bible says, 00:02:57.79\00:03:01.00 Now, we're- we're coming kind of in the middle 00:03:12.79\00:03:14.36 of the story here. There's a lot of references to 00:03:14.39\00:03:17.21 Sodom and Gomorrah throughout the Scripture. 00:03:17.24\00:03:18.94 Jesus points to it as an example of what it's going to be at the 00:03:18.97\00:03:22.56 end of time, the whole experience of Lot. 00:03:22.59\00:03:24.93 In Lot Chapter 9, Genesis 19, rather, 00:03:24.96\00:03:28.32 what happens is, we're coming into, picking up on something 00:03:28.35\00:03:32.81 that we saw in Genesis 18 >OK >>where 2 Angels and the Lord 00:03:32.84\00:03:36.55 Himself come to Abraham. Now Abraham doesn't even know 00:03:36.58\00:03:39.54 they're Angels at first. He- he just sees these strangers 00:03:39.57\00:03:42.63 coming in and figures he had to show kindness to them 00:03:42.66\00:03:46.66 and what happens is, as the Lord spent that time with 00:03:46.69\00:03:50.37 Abraham, he's come to investigate what's going on in 00:03:50.40\00:03:54.98 the area of Sodom and He says to the Angels in, actually 00:03:55.01\00:03:58.90 Chapter 18 verse 17, it says, 00:03:58.93\00:04:02.34 Uhh hmm >>and as He goes on He decides to explain to Abraham 00:04:05.31\00:04:10.43 He's going to destroy the City of Sodom because of its 00:04:10.46\00:04:12.87 wickedness. The Cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, the Cities 00:04:12.90\00:04:14.44 of the Plain and, so God then explains to 00:04:14.47\00:04:20.28 Abraham what He's going to do and Abraham because Lot, his 00:04:20.31\00:04:25.35 Nephew, lives in Sodom, begins to plea bargain with the Lord 00:04:25.38\00:04:29.05 Isn't that's something >>thinking 00:04:29.08\00:04:30.24 >and I'm assuming that the one reason He went to Abraham was 00:04:30.27\00:04:34.48 not just because it was Abraham but because of Lot, his Nephew? 00:04:34.51\00:04:37.38 >>That's right and- and so as- as Abraham begins to 00:04:37.41\00:04:40.90 plea bargain with the Lord, he says, "Lord, would- would you 00:04:40.93\00:04:43.43 destroy this if there were 50 righteous people in the City? 00:04:43.46\00:04:46.25 He's thinking to himself that if Lot lives in the City and 00:04:46.28\00:04:48.98 being a good Be- Christian man that certainly Lot will have 00:04:49.01\00:04:53.71 affected enough people that there are gonna be 50 righteous 00:04:53.74\00:04:56.25 people and He begins this- this conversation but as He's 00:04:56.28\00:05:00.09 talking, I guess Abraham starts to think, what if maybe he 00:05:00.12\00:05:02.05 hasn't influenced 50 people. Lord, what about 45 00:05:02.08\00:05:04.93 people? Well what about 40 people? And then he goes by 00:05:04.96\00:05:07.31 tens? What about 30? What about 20? 00:05:07.34\00:05:08.90 What about 10? Will you destroy the Cities of 00:05:08.93\00:05:11.96 Sodom and Gomorrah if there are 10 righteous people? 00:05:11.99\00:05:14.14 And the Lord says, No. I won't do it 00:05:14.17\00:05:16.77 for 15, no I wouldn't. If there's 45, if there's 40. 00:05:16.80\00:05:19.44 All the way down to 10." He stops at 10. 00:05:19.47\00:05:21.54 >Well, I'm assuming and I- and we can find this in the Bible. 00:05:21.57\00:05:25.67 Why not, I mean, 10? He- he had to be assured 00:05:25.70\00:05:28.31 that, I noticed at least 10 because >>>Lot's got that many 00:05:28.34\00:05:31.24 in his Family >he's got that many in his Family >>That's 00:05:31.27\00:05:33.37 right >>>But you know that the interesting thing about this, 00:05:33.40\00:05:34.63 Pastor, is that, this shows what a friendship with God can do. 00:05:34.66\00:05:38.59 Imagine bargaining with God > Yeah >>Yeah >>>You've got to 00:05:38.71\00:05:42.30 have a real relationship and imagine the mercy of God >Yeah 00:05:42.33\00:05:46.13 >>>to say, "Well, you are my friend Abraham. I'll do it for 00:05:46.16\00:05:48.54 you and for the people. Because God understands that 00:05:48.57\00:05:50.71 righteous people should influence the area 00:05:50.74\00:05:53.69 where they are. 00:05:53.74\00:05:54.71 >What's- what's the Bible say? >>Right >the fervent prayer of a 00:05:54.72\00:05:57.34 righteous man >>>availeth much >availeth much. 00:05:57.37\00:05:59.21 >>>But you know, if we could back just a few Chapters, to 00:05:59.29\00:06:01.94 Genesis Chapters 13 >OK 00:06:01.97\00:06:02.97 >>>We see how Lot got there in the first place. 00:06:03.89\00:06:05.79 Because in Genesis Chapter 13, what happened was, there was a 00:06:05.82\00:06:09.07 little controversy between Lot's xxx- Lot's herdsmen and 00:06:09.10\00:06:11.84 Abraham's herdsmen and Abraham came to Lot and said, 00:06:11.87\00:06:14.60 "Look, we're brothers. We shouldn't be fighting" 00:06:14.63\00:06:17.04 and that's a lesson for us today >Yeah >>>Should we be fighting 00:06:17.07\00:06:19.95 with fellow Christians? >>Oh yeah >Absolutely. Not at all 00:06:19.98\00:06:21.69 >>>No. So Abraham says, "You look upon the land and choose 00:06:21.72\00:06:26.04 what you want. " Now, Lot should have said, "No. 00:06:26.07\00:06:28.02 You're the older one >Right >>>I'll give preference to you" 00:06:28.05\00:06:30.55 but Lot had selfishness in his heart 00:06:30.58\00:06:32.51 and the Bible says that, "He looked upon the land that was 00:06:32.54\00:06:35.42 watered like the Garden of Eden xxx. 00:06:35.45\00:06:37.33 >It had to be something 00:06:37.36\00:06:39.45 and he said- and then the Bible says, in Genesis 13:12, that Lot 00:06:39.48\00:06:43.39 pitched his tent towards Sodom >Yes >>>He didn't moved there 00:06:43.43\00:06:47.02 at first >Right >>>but you know, it reminds me of Psalm Chapter 00:06:47.06\00:06:49.29 1. Psalm Chapter 1 verse 1 says, "Blessed is the man that walked 00:06:49.32\00:06:53.24 not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stranded in the 00:06:53.27\00:06:56.53 seat of in the way of sinners nor sitteth in the seat of 00:06:56.56\00:06:59.23 the scornful" >Right >>> There is a progression >Right 00:06:59.26\00:07:00.82 >>>First, you are walking then you're standing, 00:07:00.85\00:07:03.17 Now you're sitting >Yes >>>That's what sin does. 00:07:03.20\00:07:05.36 It mesmerizes us >Absolutely. 00:07:05.39\00:07:07.28 >>>and we'll get to the story but you see in the story that 00:07:07.31\00:07:09.57 everything Lot thought he would gain, wealth for his Family, 00:07:09.60\00:07:13.16 better education for his Family, whatever might be, 00:07:13.19\00:07:15.48 he lost but Abraham got. 00:07:15.51\00:07:17.76 >and by beholding he becomes changed. 00:07:17.79\00:07:19.31 >>>Sin is deceptive. 00:07:19.34\00:07:20.31 >That's right. It starts as a little thing, like 00:07:20.32\00:07:21.63 you said but something else I just wanna 00:07:21.66\00:07:23.31 bring out real quick. I know that- I know that I have been 00:07:23.34\00:07:27.86 over to Israel. Have you been ever over to Israel? 00:07:27.89\00:07:29.88 Pastor Mark? You ever been? >>No, I haven't. 00:07:29.91\00:07:31.74 >But I've been there. I've been on the Sada. 00:07:31.77\00:07:33.24 I've looked over the- the Dead Sea, but Dane you've- you've 00:07:33.27\00:07:36.83 been. I know that there are people today that you would say 00:07:36.86\00:07:40.09 that Sodom and Gomorrah never even existed. That's just >>> 00:07:40.12\00:07:43.17 Yeah >That's just a fairytale >>Yeah >>We- we 00:07:43.20\00:07:45.17 Dane is an eye witness. 00:07:45.20\00:07:46.17 >>>I'm a- I hide my age well > Right >>>No, actually, Jude- 00:07:46.18\00:07:50.96 Jude verse 7, cause Jude's only got 1 Chapter >Yeah >>> Jude 00:07:50.99\00:07:54.03 verse 7 says that, "God uses the Cities of Sodom as an > 00:07:54.06\00:07:57.71 example >>>example. " >Yes >>> So it can't be a fairytale. > 00:07:57.74\00:07:59.83 That's right >>>and I've got here, what >This is pretty good 00:07:59.86\00:08:03.39 visual >>> I've been to Sodom. I've been there. This is a 00:08:03.42\00:08:06.35 sulfur ball >But a sign in the City where you can see it 00:08:06.38\00:08:08.80 visually? >>>What- what hap- there's 5 Cities of the Plain 00:08:08.83\00:08:11.34 >OK >>> OK. There's- and all of them were destroyed except Zoar 00:08:11.37\00:08:13.97 that day and so you have the City at the top of the Dead Sea. 00:08:14.00\00:08:16.79 You come down the road, Zo- there was another City and then 00:08:16.82\00:08:19.53 Gomorrah came next and as you- if you drive on the road up to 00:08:19.56\00:08:23.02 Masada, the Dead Sea's down here. You drive at the Masada. 00:08:23.05\00:08:26.36 You go right to the middle of Gomorrah >Wow! 00:08:26.39\00:08:28.57 This is where we got this sul- this sulfur ball. 00:08:28.60\00:08:30.37 >Now, hold on. What's significant, you know, 00:08:30.40\00:08:32.21 some people haven't read this story but what's 00:08:32.24\00:08:33.58 significant about these sulfur balls? 00:08:33.61\00:08:35.18 >>>The significance about this is, this would be, what it would 00:08:35.21\00:08:36.89 look like. This is a- this is the only place 00:08:36.92\00:08:39.77 in the World where you have- you have sulfur- let me- let me 00:08:39.80\00:08:43.83 look at it this way, you have sulfur balls like this, 00:08:43.86\00:08:47.21 encapsulated in a burn ring >OK >>>embedded in ash >>Uhh hmm >>> 00:08:47.24\00:08:51.98 The only- these 5 Cities are the only place you'll find this and 00:08:52.01\00:08:54.12 there's is not a volcano for thousands of miles >Wow! >>> 00:08:54.15\00:08:55.93 The only way it could have happened, was God. The only way. 00:08:55.96\00:09:00.14 And like this is a sulfur ball right here. 00:09:00.17\00:09:02.47 You can see the burn ring >Yeah >>>If we will pop that open, 00:09:02.50\00:09:04.61 ithere will be a sulfur ball inside. Now the interesting 00:09:04.64\00:09:07.47 thing is if you look at this. All these sulfur balls in here. 00:09:07.50\00:09:10.71 You- this is the color of the sand outside the Cities, 00:09:10.74\00:09:15.02 right here >OK >>> But this right here is the color 00:09:15.05\00:09:19.07 of the City. Now you can see the 00:09:19.10\00:09:20.55 comparison there >Yes >>> That's dark brown where the sand 00:09:20.58\00:09:23.42 in that desert. Well, this is an ash >Yes 00:09:23.45\00:09:25.29 >>>This is one of the walls. You can actually stick your hand 00:09:25.32\00:09:28.67 into the wall and to this day, to this day 00:09:28.70\00:09:31.83 Dwight, you can see the- the- the mortar lines where the 00:09:31.86\00:09:37.59 mortar was but Lam- Lamentations Chapter 4 verse says that, "God 00:09:37.62\00:09:43.79 destroyed Sodom in a moment" > Yeah >>>and the- the - the 00:09:43.82\00:09:48.28 mortar lines all have thermal ionization, which means they 00:09:48.31\00:09:51.45 had intense heat and then cooled into ash. Notice this. 00:09:51.48\00:09:55.84 We then take this and we can just break this, like ash. >God 00:09:55.87\00:10:00.39 >>>God said that He turned the Cities of Sodom and Gomorrah 00:10:00.42\00:10:03.29 into ash to be an example of all that what after we live ungodly. 00:10:03.32\00:10:07.11 It's there for us. It's there >So, it's not only xxx. 00:10:07.14\00:10:08.94 >>>It's there > It's a tremendous story >>>Absolutely. 00:10:08.97\00:10:12.29 >Well let's get into it. So let's come up with some 00:10:12.32\00:10:14.62 points here >>Well, it's interesting that- that- that 00:10:14.66\00:10:17.52 Dane brings up the point that he does. Of course we know 00:10:17.55\00:10:19.66 Jesus Himself didn't refer to it as a fairytale. He says, 00:10:19.69\00:10:22.20 "Remember Lot's Wife," >Yeah >> which He draws out of the story 00:10:22.23\00:10:24.67 so God left a very visible example >>>Yeah >>for us here 00:10:24.70\00:10:29.26 in this story and in essence what happens in- in the story, 00:10:29.29\00:10:32.58 now we- we have the Angels now come investigating, Genesis 00:10:32.61\00:10:35.28 Chapter 19 and we read verse 1, where- where they came in and 00:10:35.31\00:10:40.93 Lot saw them and he bowed his face to the ground. Verse 2 00:10:40.96\00:10:43.50 says, of Chapter 19, 00:10:43.53\00:10:44.58 Well >Which must have been a normal thing? 00:10:55.30\00:10:57.21 >>>It was on those days. It was- it was Tropic. It was 00:10:57.24\00:10:59.22 Tropic. >>They were xxx, Yeah >>>It was Tropic They could 00:10:59.25\00:11:01.33 live. But you know what really impressed me about that Pastor? 00:11:01.36\00:11:03.02 >>What's that? 00:11:03.05\00:11:04.02 >>>God is omnipotent. He knew this was a wicked City >Oh yeah, 00:11:04.05\00:11:07.27 absolutely >>>but to show His mercy >That's right >>>so there 00:11:07.30\00:11:10.20 could be no doubt in anybody's mind that God was arbitrary 00:11:10.23\00:11:12.45 >>Sure, God didn't need to come down and investigate the >>>No 00:11:12.48\00:11:14.12 >>situation for his own benefit >Right 00:11:14.15\00:11:15.57 >>>He said, "I'm gonna show you how merciful I am. 00:11:15.60\00:11:17.80 I'm gonna show you that I check it out before I act. " 00:11:17.83\00:11:20.82 That's the mercy of God >Amen >>>That gives us hope. 00:11:20.85\00:11:23.32 That gives us hope. 00:11:23.35\00:11:24.97 >>And it helps to remind us that- that God never- 00:11:25.00\00:11:28.26 God isn't a destroyer >>>No >>and God never destroys, unless 00:11:28.29\00:11:33.80 it's the last thing >>>Sure that- that can be 00:11:33.83\00:11:36.21 >>>That's where the Bible in Isaiah calls destruction, God's 00:11:36.24\00:11:38.26 strange act >Yeah >>>He doesn't like it >Yeah 00:11:38.29\00:11:40.85 Well, and- and something else too, and I know we got- just 00:11:40.88\00:11:43.96 think we're only on verse 2 and- and we're just get started. 00:11:43.99\00:11:46.87 So exciting! 00:11:46.90\00:11:47.87 But on verse 2 where it says that, "They said they would 00:11:47.88\00:11:50.59 spend the night square. They knew it was wicked but just 00:11:50.62\00:11:53.76 like when we pray to God it isn't because God forgets and he 00:11:53.79\00:11:56.59 knows. He already knows what we need. It's that 00:11:56.92\00:11:58.99 when they said that, it really came home to Lot. 00:11:59.02\00:12:02.54 These guys are going to spend the night in the square and 00:12:02.57\00:12:06.01 they- they might not be alive tomorrow morning >>>Yeah >>Yeah 00:12:06.04\00:12:08.06 So I mean they're letting Lot himself figure for himself of 00:12:08.09\00:12:11.54 how terrible he was. 00:12:11.57\00:12:12.54 >>>He was not afraid of them not being alive. 00:12:12.55\00:12:13.68 He was afraid of them being perverted >>>I mean >Perverted 00:12:13.71\00:12:16.05 xxx xxx >>>Perverted being- being- >Right >>>being abandoned 00:12:16.08\00:12:17.52 >abused >>> being abused during the night >Yeah >>> 00:12:17.55\00:12:18.52 sexually > Yes >> and that's exactly what we find happening 00:12:18.53\00:12:22.09 is, is that the men come out and they say we wanna know these- 00:12:22.12\00:12:24.89 these two strangers carnally and- and Lot perceived all this 00:12:24.92\00:12:30.15 happening so Lot wanted to protect them. Actually he 00:12:30.18\00:12:32.77 offered the men of Sodom his Daughters, >Hmm >>his virgin 00:12:32.80\00:12:36.60 Daughters >Which was >> in place, which really gives us > 00:12:36.63\00:12:38.68 How can you >> a little bit of insight >Right >>as to the- the 00:12:38.71\00:12:40.88 >>>depravity >>the depravity and- and the deceptiveness of 00:12:40.91\00:12:46.02 sin >>>Amen >>which >>>Yes >> we'll come back to and so in 00:12:46.05\00:12:49.13 essence, the Angels finally- Lot comes out to intercede and 00:12:49.16\00:12:55.41 then the men say they're going to do the same thing with Lot as 00:12:55.44\00:12:58.98 they were with these strangers and so then the Angels pulled 00:12:59.01\00:13:01.91 Lot inside the house and striked these men with blindness >>>You 00:13:01.94\00:13:04.77 know one thing that it shows me Pastor? Is God was preparing Lot 00:13:04.80\00:13:08.33 by trying to show him how wicked >Yeah >>> the City had 00:13:08.36\00:13:10.61 become >That's right >>>God is saying, Lot do you see how 00:13:10.64\00:13:12.34 wicked this City is? Are you ready to leave? >>Yeah, yeah, 00:13:12.37\00:13:15.38 that's right >>>That's God's mercy again >absolutely >>>God 00:13:15.41\00:13:17.59 says I always show mercy before judgment >>Uhh hmm >>> God gives 00:13:17.62\00:13:20.54 men time to repent. He gives them reason to repent. Strong 00:13:20.57\00:13:24.55 reasons to repent >>Right >>> So nobody can say that God's not 00:13:24.58\00:13:27.67 fair >That's right, absolutely >>>Nobody >That's right >>And- 00:13:27.70\00:13:31.32 and so, the story goes on, the Angels tell him, Lot, to go and 00:13:31.35\00:13:36.03 warn any of his friends, Family members which he does and 00:13:36.06\00:13:39.98 the Bible says he went to talk to his Sons-in-Law, verse 00:13:40.01\00:13:42.18 14. 00:13:42.21\00:13:43.18 Or seemed as one who mocked. > Yes >>I believe it says in the 00:13:52.35\00:13:54.69 King James >>>and I like what you said earlier when we were 00:13:54.72\00:13:56.28 talking about this. I can imagine. We don't have any 00:13:56.31\00:13:58.33 written words of this but I can imagine the Sons saying, 00:13:58.36\00:14:01.13 "Well Pop if it's so wicked, why are you still here?" >That's 00:14:01.16\00:14:04.59 right. I think that's why they thought he was joking because he 00:14:04.62\00:14:08.23 had not been and we'll get in to that so, we'll save that. 00:14:08.26\00:14:11.29 So we'll keep going >>So- so anyway >>>That's something huge 00:14:11.32\00:14:14.69 >>there is, So in essence, 00:14:14.72\00:14:15.93 you know just jumping ahead to- to what happened in the story. 00:14:15.96\00:14:19.92 Finally, Angels take Lot and if you don't remember Lot bargained 00:14:19.95\00:14:24.42 or Abraham rather bargain down to the 10 individuals. 00:14:24.45\00:14:27.08 >Yeah >>and if there were 10 will you just spare the City. 00:14:27.11\00:14:29.18 Well there weren't 10 righteous people to spare the City with. 00:14:29.21\00:14:32.26 There was Lot, his Wife and 2 Daughters and 00:14:32.29\00:14:34.56 the Angels went and pulled them out by the hands >>>Hmm 00:14:34.59\00:14:36.90 >>and as they were leading them from the City, 00:14:36.93\00:14:40.26 they were given the warning, not to look back. 00:14:40.29\00:14:42.64 And as they're fleeing the City, Lot lingered. 00:14:42.67\00:14:47.26 He- he still didn't want to go. Maybe it was because of his 00:14:47.29\00:14:49.90 loved ones that were still in the City. 00:14:49.93\00:14:51.57 The Daughters would marry the Sons-in-Law cause it was 2 00:14:51.60\00:14:54.12 unmarried Daughters >Right >>that he was leaving with 00:14:54.15\00:14:55.93 >Yeah >>but whatever it was, as he lingered 00:14:55.96\00:14:58.18 he began to bargain. Try to bargain with the Lord 00:14:58.21\00:15:01.04 about whether he should go or not. 00:15:01.07\00:15:03.52 Maybe he could go to the small City, in Zoar, and what happened 00:15:03.55\00:15:06.71 in that moment is his Wife looked back. 00:15:06.74\00:15:08.66 Became a pillar of salt. God rained down fire and 00:15:08.69\00:15:11.38 brimstone from Heaven and devour the Cities of Sodom 00:15:11.41\00:15:13.75 and Gomorrah and the associated Cities of the Plain >>>Yes 00:15:13.78\00:15:17.22 >>>And you know what amazes me is, we took a little of these 00:15:17.25\00:15:19.70 sulfur balls. I took the size of a pea and put 00:15:19.73\00:15:23.09 her on a spoon in a lecture I was giving. 00:15:23.12\00:15:24.61 and lit it, we started coughing and choking within about 00:15:24.64\00:15:27.74 10 seconds >>Uhh hmm >>>The thing is, the people probably 00:15:27.77\00:15:30.88 suffocated before they ever burned to death >>Uhh hmm >>> 00:15:30.91\00:15:33.63 Again, even with their wickedness, yes God gave 00:15:33.66\00:15:37.05 judgment, but there was still mercy mixed with judgment >Yes 00:15:37.08\00:15:40.10 >>>but the thing we need to think about today is, God says, 00:15:40.13\00:15:42.94 "that during the last plagues there will be no mercy. " >No 00:15:42.97\00:15:45.13 >>>It's God's judgment, unmixed with mercy and this 00:15:45.16\00:15:49.07 deceptiveness of sin, the deceptiveness of sin. Why didn't 00:15:49.10\00:15:52.72 Lot want to leave? 00:15:52.75\00:15:53.72 >So let's- so let's go back. Now, that you've kind of 00:15:53.74\00:15:56.68 went through this and there's- there's more of it. 00:15:56.71\00:15:58.17 Let's go back. Chapter 19. 00:15:58.20\00:15:59.62 And let's start unpacking this a little bit which we've done this 00:15:59.65\00:16:02.74 a little bit already. But let's get some principles 00:16:02.77\00:16:05.11 in here that make it practical for you 00:16:05.14\00:16:06.97 the Viewer, right now, that's watching. That's why you need to 00:16:07.00\00:16:09.78 get in your Bibles because, these stories >>>Yeah >they're 00:16:09.81\00:16:12.66 not for the people back then. There more for us today >>>Amen 00:16:12.69\00:16:14.78 >That's why Jesus said remember Lot's Wife and- 00:16:14.81\00:16:17.54 and it- it talks about Lot and Judah talks about Lot and 1st. 00:16:17.57\00:16:22.08 John it talks about Lot. In Lamentations or I mean, not Lot 00:16:22.11\00:16:24.91 but Sodom and Gomorrah. It's all through the Bible. 00:16:24.94\00:16:27.84 It talks about it. Why? Not to forget it. 00:16:27.87\00:16:29.88 We need to know why. So- so let's start unpacking this. 00:16:29.91\00:16:32.99 Let's go to the beginning there, where the Angels come in 00:16:33.02\00:16:36.15 and they didn't know that at first. They were men. They 00:16:36.18\00:16:38.43 wanted to sleep in the Square >>Uhh hmm >and Lot said, "No, 00:16:38.46\00:16:41.56 you- you don't want to do that. " So he pleaded with him 00:16:41.59\00:16:44.67 and finally got him to go to the house and then 00:16:44.70\00:16:45.86 what happened? Again? >>> 00:16:45.89\00:16:47.22 Well the men come and they start pounding on the door saying, 00:16:47.25\00:16:49.39 "Give us the men! We saw you 00:16:49.42\00:16:50.71 take those strangers in there. We want to know them" and that 00:16:50.74\00:16:53.00 word "know" is important. Because that's the same thing 00:16:53.03\00:16:55.67 >>Right >>>says Adam knew Eve and she conceived. 00:16:55.70\00:16:57.26 >So it was carnally. They want to know >>>It was carnal > in a 00:16:57.29\00:16:59.69 fleshly manner >>>Yes >OK >> That's right >So they wanna know 00:16:59.72\00:17:02.23 these men which is a wicked thing, in this manner, and Lot 00:17:02.26\00:17:05.55 goes out which just amazes me. 00:17:05.58\00:17:08.11 Here Lot goes out and says and he closes the door behind him. 00:17:08.14\00:17:12.54 He's afraid they were going to get in. 00:17:12.57\00:17:13.56 Said, "Take my Daughters. They've never lay with any 00:17:13.59\00:17:15.96 men. " They were virgins. Now, I think of- I've got 2 Daughters 00:17:15.99\00:17:18.90 >>>Uhh hmm >>Now they are married and they have Children 00:17:18.93\00:17:20.97 but I can't even imagine as a Father >>>No >Saying, 00:17:21.00\00:17:25.59 "Take my 2 Daughters. " But- but something that I think is 00:17:25.62\00:17:30.18 important here is this. I believe that Lot had been 00:17:30.21\00:17:32.64 talking with these men, obviously, and it says that, 00:17:32.67\00:17:35.99 when- when Lot said- went out there, 00:17:36.02\00:17:38.55 In verse 7 and then it says, 00:17:40.82\00:17:42.74 Now I love this 00:17:51.18\00:17:52.15 What is the reason? 00:17:58.68\00:17:59.75 Why- why did they come under the shadow of this roof? 00:18:00.90\00:18:03.08 Because they weren't- they weren't protected in the Square 00:18:03.11\00:18:07.78 and I believe that these men had already been talking to Lot 00:18:07.81\00:18:10.90 and saying this City is going to be destroyed >>Uhh hmm >and 00:18:10.93\00:18:15.25 about the time they were talking about this and Lot was 00:18:15.28\00:18:17.37 probably arguing because he knows he's got his Family and 00:18:17.40\00:18:19.92 probably saying, "It's not that bad. " All of a sudden, 00:18:19.95\00:18:21.85 these men come and- and they want these 2 men >>>Yeah 00:18:21.88\00:18:24.54 >And- and another thing that I think is something here. 00:18:24.57\00:18:27.66 Was it just the poor people? >>>No 00:18:27.69\00:18:30.85 >Was it just the wealthy >>>No > people? 00:18:30.88\00:18:32.46 >It says right here again, if you look- if you at it, in 00:18:32.49\00:18:34.43 verse 4. It says, 00:18:34.46\00:18:35.43 "From every quarter" and then- and then if we jump over to 00:18:42.82\00:18:45.23 verse 11, it says, 00:18:45.26\00:18:50.04 >>>But notice that even when they were blind it says, 00:18:54.82\00:18:56.86 They >They do >>>were so intent >to sin >>>on lust >Yes >>>that 00:18:58.98\00:19:02.59 they said, "Even this blindness isn't gonna stop us. " Now, 00:19:02.62\00:19:05.07 here's one of them take home sto- things that I see in the 00:19:05.10\00:19:07.34 story >Right >>>Don't play with sin >Amen >>That's right >>>It's 00:19:07.37\00:19:10.84 deceptive. You see this- this, the Bible says, "It was watered 00:19:10.87\00:19:14.76 like the Plain of- like the Garden of God. 00:19:14.79\00:19:16.47 It was a fertile, plush place. 00:19:16.50\00:19:19.27 I was there >Yeah >>> It's nothing today. 00:19:19.30\00:19:21.88 >That's right >>>It's barren. It's bleak. In fact 00:19:21.91\00:19:24.19 There's nothing- there's nothing I'd wanna go there for >Right 00:19:24.22\00:19:26.78 >>>Sin looks wonderful at the beginning. 00:19:26.81\00:19:29.17 Sin looks inviting at the da- What danger is there? 00:19:29.20\00:19:32.46 I'll- I'll pitch my tent toward that. I'll just start watching a 00:19:32.49\00:19:35.93 little bit of that program. I'll start doing a little bit 00:19:35.96\00:19:38.14 of pornography. I'll start smoking, you know, drinking. 00:19:38.17\00:19:40.79 Before you know it, you're sucked in and you can't 00:19:40.82\00:19:43.64 It's deceptive >Yeah >>>You can't get out >Amen 00:19:43.67\00:19:46.27 >>Yeah and it's not hurting anybody but me >>>Yeah >Yeah 00:19:46.30\00:19:48.43 You know, this is the mindset that I- I think it's 00:19:48.46\00:19:50.14 interesting. We can overlook the fact that, Sodom and 00:19:50.17\00:19:52.78 Gomorrah, the story talks about the depravity of homosexuality 00:19:52.81\00:19:55.35 in the lifestyle 00:19:55.38\00:19:56.52 and God's displeasure with this >>>Yeah >>and I think it's 00:19:56.55\00:19:58.67 important that people understand that God is not 00:19:58.70\00:20:00.64 anymore displeased with the homosexual than he is for the 00:20:00.67\00:20:03.99 or a thief or anything else but- but the first challenge 00:20:07.17\00:20:10.65 comes in with the deceptiveness of sin, 00:20:10.68\00:20:12.82 when we won't call sin, sin >>>That's right 00:20:12.85\00:20:14.98 and- and we say, "Well it's not hurting anybody else. 00:20:15.01\00:20:17.69 It's just- it's what I've chosen 00:20:17.73\00:20:19.02 as a lifestyle. If it's something contrary to 00:20:19.05\00:20:21.20 the will of God, God does not make His rules just 00:20:21.23\00:20:23.47 because He's God and He can. >>>Yeah >>He makes them because 00:20:23.50\00:20:26.92 He knows what's best for us >>> 00:20:26.95\00:20:27.92 And to show the deceptiveness of this whole thing, 00:20:27.93\00:20:29.70 we have Christian denominations >>Uhh Hmm who claim to go by 00:20:29.73\00:20:32.81 this Word >>That's right >>> who say, "It's OK to be 00:20:32.84\00:20:35.61 homosexual >Yes >>> if you're only monogamous. You- you- you had- 00:21:07.19\00:21:09.05 We were talking about this and, you know, some people say, 00:21:09.08\00:21:11.97 "Well, I was born this way >>> Yes >>and how can God hold that 00:21:12.00\00:21:14.77 against me?" and you agree? 00:21:14.80\00:21:15.92 >>>There's some interesting studies that pups, that rat pups 00:21:15.95\00:21:19.05 that are born to the- to the Mothers that they fed alcohol 00:21:19.08\00:21:21.66 to, have homosexual tendencies. So, can you be born with 00:21:21.69\00:21:26.00 homosexual tendencies? Absolutely. 00:21:26.03\00:21:27.98 But, Neuro Science, Dr. John Rady, one of the leading Neuro 00:21:28.01\00:21:31.66 Researchers in the Country today from Harvard University, 00:21:31.69\00:21:33.83 has clearly said that, "Genes do not make a man gay, 00:21:33.86\00:21:37.72 happy or fat. Genes make proteins. " 00:21:37.75\00:21:39.81 Now, what he also says is, "We are, 00:21:39.84\00:21:42.19 we can change our brains by what we choose to do. " 00:21:42.22\00:21:46.25 So, if you have tendencies towards homosexuality, 00:21:46.28\00:21:49.87 if you choose by God's power, to give up that lifestyle, God will 00:21:49.90\00:21:55.53 give you the power to do it> Well, God >>>God will give 00:21:55.56\00:21:57.33 you the forgiveness and>>That's right 00:21:57.36\00:21:58.96 by beholding, it become changes >>>That's right >that is what 00:21:58.99\00:22:00.41 you're saying >>>That's right. But the test that God give us, gives us, 00:22:45.79\00:22:50.51 they're not too much for us >>> No >He said that He would never 00:22:50.54\00:22:54.54 tempt us more than we are able. There was nothing wrong 00:23:01.72\00:23:03.13 with fruit. It was just that He said 00:23:03.16\00:23:05.09 don't do it. Because it's- it's really- 00:23:05.12\00:23:06.71 even Sodom and Gomorrah, the test for- for Lot was are you 00:23:06.74\00:23:11.25 going to stay in the country. He'd already talked about 00:23:11.28\00:23:12.94 country living. You get in those Cities, 00:23:12.97\00:23:14.90 and you begin- you know, It says that, "The Sephites, 00:23:14.93\00:23:17.22 if- when they started mingling with the Canaanites, they 00:23:17.25\00:23:21.57 started becoming more wicked >>> Yes >and when- when you ride 00:23:21.60\00:23:23.66 in the country, I mean, you think about these things and 00:23:23.69\00:23:26.13 that's- and that's another story but the tests are not that 00:23:26.16\00:23:29.27 huge that we can't overcome if we keep Christ centered in our 00:23:29.30\00:23:31.88 hearts. It's just that we choose to do the things that we wanna 00:23:31.91\00:23:34.97 do and then we make excuses like, I can't- 00:23:35.00\00:23:37.01 I can't do anything about it >>> 00:23:37.04\00:23:39.78 Yes >I heard somebody, one time, say that someone that says 00:23:39.81\00:23:43.75 that, "They have bad temper and they can't get over it. " 00:23:43.78\00:23:45.38 If you got stopped by the Policeman, 00:23:45.41\00:23:47.49 you just got done smacking your Wife or Husband or 00:23:47.52\00:23:50.25 or screaming and how you have such a bad temper and the 00:23:50.28\00:23:51.99 police stopped you. You're not gonna jump out 00:23:52.02\00:23:53.84 and smack the Cop. You're probably gonna be nice. 00:23:53.87\00:23:55.79 >>>If you're smart >Yeah. You're gonna say, "Oh, I'm 00:23:55.82\00:23:59.03 It makes a huge difference. Well, we gotta take a short 00:23:59.07\00:24:03.11 break and is this not exciting or what? 00:24:03.14\00:24:05.91 Very practical for you and I today. 00:24:05.94\00:24:08.39 Don't go away. We're gonna take this quick 00:24:08.42\00:24:10.38 break and we'll be right back. 00:24:10.41\00:24:11.80 >>>When I was over in Sodom and and Gomorrah several years ago, 00:24:13.56\00:24:17.24 we we're able to find actual sulfur balls in both of the 00:24:17.27\00:24:21.70 Cities of the Plain. We've been praying that God 00:24:21.74\00:24:23.62 would open the way because they get very little rain there and 00:24:23.65\00:24:27.33 without rain you can't find these sulfur balls. 00:24:27.36\00:24:29.71 The day before we went, they got a half an inch of rain 00:24:30.23\00:24:33.40 Cleared the ground. We found the sulfur balls. 00:24:33.43\00:24:35.35 God works. He answers prayer 00:24:35.38\00:24:37.80 and God says that He'd- He'd put these there as an example, as 00:24:37.83\00:24:43.12 we've said before, to all who would have to afterward live 00:24:43.16\00:24:45.00 ungodly. Sodom and Gomorrah were real places. They weren't 00:24:45.03\00:24:48.16 fairytales and they show how God feels about that heinous sin 00:24:48.19\00:24:52.79 of homosexuality. So, the good thing about this is 00:24:52.82\00:24:57.00 we realize one day we took one of these little ba- these little 00:24:57.04\00:24:59.46 pea- size sulfur balls and we set it on fire and what happens 00:24:59.49\00:25:04.21 is, long before- when this started to burn, within about 20 00:25:04.24\00:25:08.36 seconds, we were coughing and sputtering. We couldn't even, 00:25:08.39\00:25:11.24 you know, the smell of the sulfur was just- and actually 00:25:11.27\00:25:13.11 burned a hole in the bottom and made the spoon indented 00:25:13.14\00:25:15.95 right there. So we're gonna light the sulfur up to let you 00:25:15.98\00:25:18.62 see exactly what this fire from Heaven did, when it came down. 00:25:18.65\00:25:24.31 So I'm gonna set this right down here 00:25:24.34\00:25:26.27 and we're gonna light this match and let this sulfur 00:25:26.30\00:25:29.99 catch on fire. Now when this sulfur catches 00:25:30.02\00:25:34.20 on fire, it is the foulest smell that you've ever smelled 00:25:34.23\00:25:39.57 in your life. It's starting- It's starting to ignite. 00:25:39.61\00:25:42.41 You should see it doesn't put on a lot of fire 00:25:42.44\00:25:44.37 but that spoon is burning really hot 00:25:44.40\00:25:47.02 and the smell that is coming off of that, is pretty intense. 00:25:47.05\00:25:50.92 Even out here. Now it is. 00:25:50.95\00:25:52.58 Even out here on the outside. There you see that- that- 00:25:52.62\00:25:55.42 that sulfur is burning. It's turning the spoon all 00:25:55.46\00:25:57.91 kinds of different colors. It doesn't burn with the big 00:25:58.06\00:25:59.97 flame but the smell is very intense and that spoon I can't 00:26:00.00\00:26:05.09 even touch. It's burning so hot. 00:26:05.12\00:26:07.26 That's what came, down from God, out of Heaven and destroyed 00:26:07.29\00:26:11.21 the Cities of Sodom, Gomorrah, Adma, Zoar and the other 2 00:26:11.25\00:26:16.72 Cities of the Plain. Fire from Heaven. 00:26:16.76\00:26:18.94 It did its job and God set it as an example for all 00:26:18.97\00:26:23.11 those who would afterward, live ungodly. 00:26:23.15\00:26:26.54 I'm glad that you're back with us 00:26:28.47\00:26:29.58 Wasn't that something that sulfur? 00:26:29.61\00:26:31.99 You know, you couldn't smell the sulfur. 00:26:32.02\00:26:33.77 I didn't realize sulfur smelled something quite like that 00:26:33.80\00:26:35.84 so bad. But how hot it burns 00:26:35.87\00:26:38.53 and it reminds me of The Judgment Day. 00:26:38.56\00:26:40.54 But I'm not afraid of The Judgment Day. 00:26:40.57\00:26:43.51 I hope that you are neither because we have an Advocate, 00:26:43.54\00:26:45.38 that's Jesus Christ and it doesn't mean God is bad, 00:26:45.41\00:26:48.36 it just means that we have a Judge and we have a Lawyer 00:26:48.39\00:26:51.87 and together they cannot fail but we have to be surrendered 00:26:51.90\00:26:54.90 moment by moment that we might be saved. 00:26:54.93\00:26:57.54 And if we center our hearts and our eyes on Jesus, 00:26:57.57\00:27:00.33 there's no question about it by faith. 00:27:00.36\00:27:02.07 Like Paul said, "I've fought the fight and I've won that fight. " 00:27:02.10\00:27:05.57 And so you can too. 00:27:05.60\00:27:06.57 So don't be afraid but we need to be open and surrendered. 00:27:06.58\00:27:09.63 You know, if Lot would have just realized that by beholding 00:27:09.66\00:27:13.75 we'd become changed. If he wouldn't have been 00:27:13.78\00:27:15.57 selfish and if he wouldn't have looked at that City and on the 00:27:15.60\00:27:20.51 outside it looked so nice and luscious, all 00:27:20.54\00:27:22.85 Like the Garden of God but what happened he started at the 00:27:22.88\00:27:26.12 beginning of the City, at the edge of it 00:27:26.15\00:27:28.05 and before long, he was in the City. 00:27:28.08\00:27:30.92 And, the sad part about it is, he lost his whole entire Family 00:27:30.95\00:27:34.99 but his 2 Daughters and who knows where they 00:27:35.02\00:27:37.69 went at the- at the end. It was a terrible, terrible ending 00:27:37.72\00:27:39.96 of a- of a potential great story. Bottom line for you and 00:27:39.99\00:27:44.70 I, are we willing to flee from sin? Are we willing to- to run 00:27:44.73\00:27:49.55 away? I have tendencies for alcohol because of how much I 00:27:49.58\00:27:53.31 use to drink. But I don't have to drink it. 00:27:53.34\00:27:55.40 God gives me that power and you can have the power 00:27:55.43\00:27:58.44 through Jesus Christ. I wanna make sure that each one 00:27:58.47\00:28:02.14 of you can into these stories. 00:28:02.17\00:28:03.84 I pray that you will. I pray that you will make a 00:28:03.87\00:28:06.25 practical in your everyday life. These stories are for you and I. 00:28:06.28\00:28:09.22 Take a look at Lot and how he, through his influence as a 00:28:09.25\00:28:14.65 Father, lost it all. That doesn't have to be your 00:28:14.68\00:28:18.89 fate in this World. But until next time, you too 00:28:18.92\00:28:23.71 can have a better way of life. So don't put it off. 00:28:23.74\00:28:28.22
