Have you ever heard somebody say 00:00:12.69\00:00:13.88 It really doesn't matter how we worship God as long as we 00:00:13.91\00:00:16.15 worship Him. I mean, after all, 00:00:16.18\00:00:17.59 He's not that particular? 00:00:17.62\00:00:18.79 You know, worship is not something to play around with. 00:00:18.82\00:00:21.35 It's going to be the issue in the end of time. 00:00:21.38\00:00:23.38 The Book of Revelation tells us. 00:00:23.41\00:00:24.76 And today we're gonna go back to the story 00:00:24.79\00:00:26.61 in the beginning of the Bible. The story of Cain and Abel. 00:00:26.64\00:00:28.92 One of these worshipers has accepted before God. 00:00:28.95\00:00:32.48 The other has rejected. Why? 00:00:32.51\00:00:33.99 What makes the difference? 00:00:34.02\00:00:35.44 What makes the difference in our worship? 00:00:35.47\00:00:37.30 We'll find out today. Stay tuned. 00:00:37.33\00:00:39.34 >Welcome to another Edition of Bible Alive. 00:00:46.57\00:00:48.76 I'm glad that you could join us. 00:00:48.79\00:00:50.33 My name is Dwight Hall and I have my Co-Host 00:00:50.36\00:00:52.93 Pastor Mark Howard. 00:00:52.96\00:00:54.44 Pastor it's good to have you here. 00:00:54.47\00:00:55.44 >>Great to be here Dwight. 00:00:55.47\00:00:56.44 and Dane Griffin, >>>Uhh hmm > good friend of mine for 25 years 00:00:56.45\00:00:59.68 at least >>>Yep >and we're still friends. 00:00:59.71\00:01:01.78 We've talked about that. Went through a lot of things 00:01:01.81\00:01:03.67 >>>Went through the years. A lot of water under the bridge 00:01:03.70\00:01:04.67 but >That's right >>>but we're still on the way to the Kingdom. 00:01:04.68\00:01:06.50 >Amen. And Pastor, you not only are a Pastor of a 00:01:16.21\00:01:21.06 Church but have a Ministry and that is what? >>It's Emmanuel 00:01:21.09\00:01:25.17 Institute of Evangelism. We're actually an Evangelism Training 00:01:25.20\00:01:28.12 Program. We train people, young and old, to know how to share 00:01:28.15\00:01:31.98 their faith more effectively. How to be excited about what 00:01:32.01\00:01:34.31 believe from the Bible and feel confident in sharing what they 00:01:34.34\00:01:38.36 >Yeah >>know from the Bible and of course, when you- when you 00:01:38.39\00:01:40.92 are excited about the truth of God's Word, Jesus said, "It 00:01:40.95\00:01:44.37 becomes like a well of water, a fountain of water >Right >> 00:01:44.40\00:01:45.84 springing up under everlasting life. >That's right 00:01:45.87\00:01:47.68 >>and so we train people how to spring up effectively >Hey, 00:01:47.71\00:01:51.02 that's, I like that. I like that >>Yeah > and we want you to 00:01:51.05\00:01:53.64 spring up effectively too >>Amen >Before we get started with Cain 00:01:53.67\00:01:56.69 and Abel, I hope that you have your Bibles and you need to get 00:01:56.72\00:02:01.15 those. But before you do, let's just pause, that God will bless 00:02:01.18\00:02:03.14 us and so we'll have a Word of Prayer. 00:02:03.17\00:02:06.94 Father in Heaven, again, we just thank You so much for the time 00:02:06.97\00:02:10.74 that we can have together on this program. I pray that You 00:02:10.77\00:02:14.04 be with our Guests that are watching, that You'll open their 00:02:14.07\00:02:16.91 hearts. That You would push the evil angels away, Father. That 00:02:16.94\00:02:19.92 You would allow them to be open with their lives to see where 00:02:19.95\00:02:24.71 they're at with this story today. Be with us also, Father, 00:02:24.74\00:02:27.83 that it may not be our words but truly Your Words which guides 00:02:27.86\00:02:31.82 our lips and I thank You for hearing this prayer and for 00:02:31.85\00:02:35.61 answering it because I pray it in the Name of Jesus and in 00:02:35.64\00:02:38.64 faith, Amen >>>Amen >>Uhh hmm >OK. Now you need to get in your 00:02:38.67\00:02:42.26 Bibles and it's Genesis what? Chapter? >>Chapter 4 >Chapter 4 00:02:42.29\00:02:46.12 and while you're getting there, I'm going to type up on my 00:02:46.15\00:02:49.20 little Lap Top here. Get it up on the screen, Genesis Chapter 00:02:49.23\00:02:51.94 4, and we'll start- you know Pastor, why don't you go ahead 00:02:51.97\00:02:55.71 and maybe you wanna >>Yeah, I will >just read this >>We'll 00:02:55.74\00:02:57.32 just say, we- really, it's a short story. Starts in verse 1 00:02:57.35\00:03:00.31 there of Chapter 4. We're gonna >Right >>just start there. Bible 00:03:00.34\00:03:03.04 says 00:03:03.09\00:03:04.06 >>Verse 6 00:03:35.64\00:03:36.61 >Uhh hmm 00:03:59.36\00:04:00.33 >OK, well there's more, a little bit more there about Cain 00:04:01.49\00:04:04.37 but let's- let's get started. What, you know in a- in a 00:04:04.40\00:04:09.03 nutshell, what is this talking about? What is this whole- 00:04:09.06\00:04:11.54 this whole thing, these what? These short 8 verses. What is 00:04:11.57\00:04:16.08 it trying to get across? >>>Well I think, what it says to me is, 00:04:16.11\00:04:20.37 Number 1, these were both engaging in acts of worship >> 00:04:20.40\00:04:23.51 That's right >Yes >>>Cain brought a permissible sacrifice 00:04:23.54\00:04:28.16 but it was the thank offering, not a sin offering and so he had 00:04:28.19\00:04:33.82 partial obedience. You know, many people today say, "It 00:04:33.85\00:04:37.04 doesn't matter what you do, just love Jesus. It doesn't matter 00:04:37.07\00:04:40.10 what day you worship, just worship. >>Uhh hmm >>>It doesn't 00:04:40.13\00:04:41.56 matter. It doesn't matter that" but this >>"God doesn't care 00:04:41.59\00:04:43.17 what day. " >Yeah >>"God is not that particular," they say >>> 00:04:45.46\00:04:47.67 I've heard that one >Uhh hmm >>> but what does it show here? > 00:04:47.70\00:04:50.20 He's very particular >>>God says, "I'm particular. " For 00:04:50.23\00:04:53.09 Him? No, for us >Yes >>>It's the discipline of serving God >Well, 00:04:53.12\00:04:58.15 what- what does John say in the New Testament? "If ye love me, 00:04:58.18\00:05:00.80 >>>Keep my commandments. " >keep my commandments. He's kind 00:05:00.83\00:05:02.08 of saying, insinuating if you don't forget it because it 00:05:02.11\00:05:05.10 doesn't matter anyway >>>That's right >You know, you hear. Dane, 00:05:05.13\00:05:07.92 I have to share this short story. We were talking before we 00:05:07.95\00:05:10.58 got on the air about being a Pilot. You know, so often, you 00:05:10.61\00:05:14.28 know, you- you love the Lord and you'll keep His Commandments 00:05:14.31\00:05:17.94 and we know that we can't do it in our own strength >>>That's 00:05:17.97\00:05:20.02 right >but through Jesus Christ, all things are possible and we 00:05:20.05\00:05:22.34 love the Lord so much, we surrender our will to Him and 00:05:22.37\00:05:25.42 we do whatever He wants us to do. Not because He's a tyrant 00:05:25.45\00:05:28.47 God but because He wants to keep us free. >>That's right >Free 00:05:28.50\00:05:31.66 indeed from sin >>>That's right >and-and- and sin should not 00:05:31.69\00:05:35.03 have dominion over us but anyways, you were saying well, 00:05:35.06\00:05:37.45 hey, you know, I explain it this way. Go ahead, Dane. You can 00:05:37.48\00:05:40.71 share it. >>>Well, I've had people before- I've heard people 00:05:40.74\00:05:42.70 before say, "Ah, You're a legalist cause you go to Church 00:05:42.73\00:05:44.61 or because you know, eat the right way or you eat the way 00:05:44.64\00:05:47.18 you do or what. " I look at people and say, 00:05:47.21\00:05:48.79 "Hey listen, when I get on an airplane 00:05:48.82\00:05:50.86 with 150, 300, how many people is on the airplane, 00:05:50.89\00:05:53.40 I want a legalist flying that baby. 00:05:53.43\00:05:55.58 I want a Pilot who goes by the book. 00:05:55.61\00:05:58.60 He rotates at the right speed. He lands at the right speed. 00:05:58.63\00:06:01.60 He drops the wheels at the right time. 00:06:01.63\00:06:03.18 He does it by- He flies at the right altitude. 00:06:03.21\00:06:05.75 He does it by the book 00:06:05.78\00:06:07.49 and I think everybody is like that. 00:06:07.52\00:06:09.02 >And really, in essence though, that's not a legalist. 00:06:09.05\00:06:11.35 >>>No, it's not a legalist >So what- so what >>>That's called 00:06:11.38\00:06:14.26 being smart >That's right. Being smart and being right. 00:06:14.29\00:06:17.63 >>>That's right. >You know, and so but what, so what then is a 00:06:17.66\00:06:20.41 legalist? >>Well, it's interesting >We've gotten- 00:06:20.44\00:06:22.14 we've- we've gotten this saying around that I hear all the time. 00:06:22.17\00:06:25.58 If- you're just a legalist. So what is truly a >>Well, people 00:06:25.61\00:06:30.04 want to equate, people- and I hate to say it, quite this way 00:06:30.07\00:06:34.54 but really, people who don't study the Bible well, have 00:06:34.57\00:06:38.83 fallen into the fallacy of equating legalism with 00:06:38.86\00:06:41.72 obedience. As if the more you obey God, the more legalistic 00:06:41.75\00:06:45.63 you are but the fact is, that legalism is more of a motivation 00:06:45.66\00:06:50.81 than- than the outward act. In other words, legalism is a 00:06:50.84\00:06:54.32 person who's trying to earn God's favor by what they do >>> 00:06:54.35\00:06:57.49 That's right >>Now, some- I know legalist that do a lot. 00:06:57.52\00:07:00.42 I know legalist who do a little. It's not about how much they do 00:07:00.45\00:07:03.85 but the spirit they do it in >In other words, what you're saying 00:07:03.88\00:07:06.89 is, you can have an alter conservative that- and I hate 00:07:06.92\00:07:10.38 those terms. That someone that- like- like- like the Pharisees > 00:07:10.41\00:07:13.83 >>>Yeah >The Pharisees were alter legalist, why? 00:07:13.86\00:07:15.71 Because they were trying to 00:07:15.74\00:07:16.71 merit their way into Heaven >>>Sure, sure >by keeping 00:07:16.74\00:07:18.55 certain Laws >>>True >It wasn't because of the love of Jesus and 00:07:18.58\00:07:21.53 God. >>That's right >It was their own merits >>And they 00:07:21.56\00:07:24.34 figured what they did was gonna earn their favor with God >And 00:07:24.37\00:07:27.06 so they were very strong in those areas. Then you got 00:07:27.09\00:07:29.74 the- the- the group that's on the opposite side who says, "Oh, 00:07:29.77\00:07:32.80 it just doesn't matter what we do at all. Just love Jesus" and 00:07:32.83\00:07:36.42 they're legalist too >>That's right >because they're- because 00:07:36.45\00:07:39.51 by- by saying that, they're keeping their own law. >>It's 00:07:39.54\00:07:41.58 like this and I've noticed this. I go out and as I run this 00:07:41.61\00:07:44.78 witnessing school, one of the things we do, we've gone out 00:07:44.81\00:07:47.28 witnessed door-to-door with people and one of things we've 00:07:47.31\00:07:50.05 done is give them surveys, religious surveys and it's 00:07:50.08\00:07:52.26 interesting how many Christians, 00:07:52.29\00:07:53.56 when you ask them, where their security is. 00:07:53.59\00:07:55.94 If you were to die tonight, would you be saved? 00:07:55.97\00:07:58.23 Yes, I'd be saved. Why would you be saved? 00:07:58.26\00:07:59.72 They say, "Well, because I'm a 00:07:59.75\00:08:00.72 good person. " Soon as a person 00:08:00.73\00:08:02.60 says something like that, what they're telling you is 00:08:02.63\00:08:04.55 their Salvation is based on their goodness >Yeah 00:08:04.58\00:08:07.03 >>They may not believe that they have to keep 00:08:07.06\00:08:08.56 the 10 Commandments. They may not have to believe, 00:08:08.59\00:08:10.38 they may not believe any of that. 00:08:10.41\00:08:11.85 They may believe that I go down the soup kitchen once a week 00:08:11.88\00:08:14.15 and because I help people out and I'm a nice person 00:08:14.18\00:08:16.50 that will get me into Heaven. They're still legalist. 00:08:16.53\00:08:18.80 >That's right >Because they are seeing their works as the basis 00:08:18.83\00:08:22.05 of Salvation. >>>And you know Pastor, I've never had anybody 00:08:22.08\00:08:24.61 come up to me and say, "You don't commit adultery? 00:08:24.64\00:08:27.10 You're a legalist. " >>Yeah. That's right 00:08:27.13\00:08:29.54 >>>"But you don't swear? Aah! It's legalism. " Nobody, 00:08:29.57\00:08:32.44 but they will bring it up about what day you worship on 00:08:32.47\00:08:34.89 and if you eat or don't eat the right things. 00:08:34.92\00:08:36.79 >>That's right. When you're challenged 00:08:36.82\00:08:37.79 >>>That's always the legalism there. 00:08:37.80\00:08:38.77 >>When you're challenged >Yeah, yeah >>to do something that you 00:08:38.78\00:08:40.04 don't wanna do >>>That's right >Right >>You know, we have >>> 00:08:40.07\00:08:41.59 >>>That's right >> a built-in self-defense >>>Oh Yeah >> 00:08:41.62\00:08:43.08 mechanism I'd like >>>Oh >>to say >>>yeah. Absolutely. 00:08:43.11\00:08:44.08 >Sometimes, sometimes people, you know, 00:08:44.09\00:08:45.95 I've got a little definition that legalism 00:08:45.98\00:08:47.83 is doing one step more than somebody else 00:08:47.86\00:08:50.41 and of course, then you're going to say le- 00:08:50.44\00:08:51.88 and why do we many times say that sometimes it's true 00:08:51.91\00:08:54.54 but, like you said, many times it's because somebody is doing 00:08:54.57\00:08:58.35 something that the- the conscience is being pricked in 00:08:58.38\00:09:00.95 our own hearts. The- the Lord is saying, you should be taking 00:09:00.98\00:09:04.73 note of that because again, it's not how much you do or how 00:09:04.76\00:09:08.02 little you do. It's doing it in your own strength. 00:09:08.05\00:09:10.33 Is that correct? If you do nothing >>Right >and say, 00:09:10.36\00:09:11.95 "It doesn't matter. " Well then you're a legalist 00:09:11.98\00:09:13.75 because you're saying, "I don't have to 00:09:13.78\00:09:15.15 do anything, so I'm- I'm writing my own laws. " 00:09:15.18\00:09:17.19 >>>Listen, you look- you look at the Book of James. 00:09:17.22\00:09:19.16 James says, "That we should obey the perfect law of liberty. " 00:09:19.19\00:09:23.47 >>That's right >Yes >>>The law of- why does God >Because it's 00:09:23.50\00:09:25.95 just free >>>Why does God want us to obey the law? For his 00:09:25.98\00:09:28.28 good? No >>For our good >>>because 00:09:28.31\00:09:29.84 it builds a hedge of protection around us >Yes. Amen 00:09:29.87\00:09:32.23 >>>I knew- I had- I had a prisoner, I was doing a prison 00:09:32.26\00:09:34.44 Ministry video once and a prisoner said to me, he said, 00:09:34.47\00:09:37.36 "You wanna know how important keeping the law is? 00:09:37.39\00:09:38.95 Ask any Guy in this place >Yeah 00:09:38.98\00:09:40.85 >>>They'll tell you how important it is 00:09:40.88\00:09:41.85 >Yeah >>>You see, they lost their liberty >Right. 00:09:41.86\00:09:44.25 >>>because they had ventured against the law >>Right 00:09:44.28\00:09:46.14 >>>and God's going to do the same thing >That's right 00:09:46.17\00:09:48.25 >>>He doesn't want to but He had to do it with Cain 00:09:48.28\00:09:51.24 and I think what's interesting in this 00:09:51.27\00:09:52.61 >So- so who, so then, if I might interrupt >>>Yeah >Who 00:09:52.64\00:09:55.48 then truly was the legalist? >>>Cain >Cain was? >>Yeah. 00:09:55.51\00:10:01.03 >He was saying it doesn't matter >>>At the same time >what you do 00:10:01.06\00:10:03.03 and his own Brother, Abel saying, 00:10:03.06\00:10:04.87 "Cain please listen. Do what God's asking you to do" 00:10:04.90\00:10:08.89 and he was saying, "Hey, this is the best. " I'm- 00:10:08.92\00:10:11.38 because, I think Cain's problem was 00:10:11.41\00:10:14.53 you know, in an essence, that, he was a Farmer >>>Yes 00:10:14.56\00:10:17.21 >and so he brought the best and he thought, 00:10:17.24\00:10:20.60 I brought my best. That ought to be good enough. 00:10:20.63\00:10:23.17 I mean, Abel is a- Abel is a Shepherd so he's bringing the 00:10:23.20\00:10:26.96 best of his sheep. I'm bringing the best 00:10:26.99\00:10:29.39 of my fruits so that ought to be good enough. 00:10:29.42\00:10:30.81 I mean, he's bringing his best. I'm bringing my best but they 00:10:30.84\00:10:33.68 weren't- he wasn't listening to God >>>That's right. 00:10:33.71\00:10:35.67 >>Something important in the > Uhh hmm >>the story of Cain and 00:10:35.70\00:10:37.32 Abel is, you know, we read the story right here and what we do 00:10:37.35\00:10:40.17 get clearly is that they both came to God. They both 00:10:40.20\00:10:43.66 worshipped God. Yes >>They both made sacrifices to God. 00:10:43.69\00:10:46.32 One was accepted and the other wasn't accepted. 00:10:46.35\00:10:48.97 It doesn't spell out for us here why but it does in the Book of 00:10:49.00\00:10:52.15 Hebrews 11. In Hebrews 11 verse 4 it says, 00:10:52.18\00:10:55.43 "By faith, Abel offered a better sacrifice unto God >Yes 00:10:55.46\00:10:59.68 >>than Cain" and so, faith was the 00:10:59.71\00:11:02.21 qualifying factor and what's fascinating is 00:11:02.24\00:11:04.32 when you look at the two individuals, Cain and Abel. 00:11:04.35\00:11:08.20 Abel was the one that obeyed God more particularly. 00:11:08.23\00:11:11.70 He obeyed to the letter where Cain, he gave partial obedience. 00:11:11.73\00:11:15.55 He built an offer. He brought a sacrifice. 00:11:15.58\00:11:17.53 He just didn't bring exactly what God said. 00:11:17.56\00:11:19.91 He partially did but not fully. Abel gave full obedience 00:11:19.94\00:11:25.19 and I think it's interesting when you understand that it was 00:11:25.22\00:11:27.21 because of his faith. In other words, faith didn't 00:11:27.24\00:11:29.95 lead Able to be less obedient to God but more >more obedient 00:11:29.98\00:11:33.07 >>obedient to God. Where- where there's a mindset today 00:11:33.10\00:11:35.34 that if you have lots of faith, you won't worry about obedience. 00:11:35.37\00:11:38.43 Just so long as you have faith 00:11:38.46\00:11:39.89 but the Bible teach us the exact- exact opposite. 00:11:39.92\00:11:42.55 The person who has faith, is the 00:11:42.58\00:11:44.06 one who's gonna be more obedient. 00:11:44.09\00:11:45.44 The person who's less obedient, the reason they're 00:11:45.47\00:11:47.33 less obedient, is because faith prompts your heart- 00:11:47.36\00:11:51.62 if faith works by love the Scripture says >Yes >>and when 00:11:51.65\00:11:54.85 we love to serve- when we love God, we'll wanna serve Him >Amen 00:11:54.88\00:11:58.19 >>Because Cain didn't really have that love for God in his 00:11:58.22\00:12:00.83 heart. All he want to do is the least he could to get by. 00:12:00.86\00:12:03.91 It's like in High School. When I was in High School, I was 00:12:03.94\00:12:05.54 one of those students, that, "Boy, if I could just get by. " 00:12:05.57\00:12:08.02 >>>Did we go to the same school? 00:12:08.05\00:12:09.02 >>If I could just skate by with the- >Yeah >>with the >>>Yeah 00:12:10.19\00:12:12.41 >>with- and pass and graduate, that was good for me. " >>>Yeah 00:12:12.44\00:12:15.44 >>You know, just give me the bare minimum 00:12:15.47\00:12:17.43 and that's where Cain was, he didn't wanna do anything 00:12:17.46\00:12:20.28 more than he had to do, to be saved. 00:12:20.31\00:12:21.97 >>>He didn't want to be inconvenienced 00:12:22.00\00:12:23.28 >>That's right >Yeah >>>for God >>And so he's 00:12:23.31\00:12:25.95 >>>and- and you know, it's like what it says in the Book of 00:12:25.98\00:12:27.32 James, James says, "Show me your faith without your works >> 00:12:27.35\00:12:30.91 That's right >>>and I'll show you my faith by my works. " Now 00:12:30.94\00:12:34.91 what's James saying there? James is saying that, faith produces 00:12:34.94\00:12:38.51 works >>That's right >>> but works never produce faith >> 00:12:38.54\00:12:41.35 That's right >Right. >>>and that's a key >>That's the real 00:12:41.38\00:12:43.77 key >>>faith always produces works but works will never 00:12:43.80\00:12:46.45 produce faith >And a faith that works by Love >>>Love >>That's 00:12:46.48\00:12:49.48 right >I mean it- it all ties in. You cannot, 00:12:49.51\00:12:51.78 and what we've tried to do, I think, sometimes, 00:12:51.81\00:12:53.68 in the Christian World, is try to tear that- that >>That's true 00:12:53.71\00:12:55.82 >that, you know, you- you can break one strand 00:12:55.85\00:12:59.56 pretty easy. A three kit strand cord 00:12:59.59\00:13:01.73 is not easily broken, the Bible says >>>Right 00:13:01.76\00:13:03.24 >So you've got faith, works and love. 00:13:03.27\00:13:05.32 You've got to keep those tied together. 00:13:05.35\00:13:07.54 You start messing with it and you're- >>Yeah > 00:13:07.57\00:13:09.68 you're gonna be in trouble >>>That's right, absolutely >> 00:13:09.71\00:13:11.54 It is interesting too, when you come to the Book of Hebrews. 00:13:11.57\00:13:13.09 Most Christian's know Hebrews Chapter 11 00:13:13.12\00:13:15.38 is the great faith Chapter >Yes >> 00:13:15.41\00:13:16.72 You look at Hebrews 11 and- and it will tell us, going through 00:13:16.75\00:13:20.05 all the Patriarchs. By faith, Abel did this. 00:13:20.08\00:13:23.17 By faith Noah did this. By faith somebody did something 00:13:23.20\00:13:26.78 and in every case, by faith and then it's 00:13:26.81\00:13:28.77 followed by actions >Yes >>That's right >> 00:13:28.80\00:13:30.16 because faith works >Yes >> and that's something that we see. 00:13:30.19\00:13:33.41 What's interesting about Cain and Abel, is you've got two 00:13:33.44\00:13:35.69 classes of worshipers and we know, if we come down 00:13:35.72\00:13:37.65 to the end of the Bible. Go all the way through. We come to the 00:13:37.68\00:13:39.51 Book of Revelation and we see two groups of people. We see 00:13:39.54\00:13:43.07 those and everybody is claiming to worship. The Bible says, 00:13:43.10\00:13:45.18 "Everybody worships at end of time. " We've got a true system 00:13:45.21\00:13:47.34 and a false system >>>That's right >>Just like back in >Yeah 00:13:47.37\00:13:49.50 >>Genesis >Right >>a true and a false. We're gonna see the same 00:13:49.53\00:13:51.61 thing. We're going to see those who have a faith that works 00:13:51.64\00:13:55.50 and those who have an alleged faith as an excuse from working. 00:13:55.53\00:14:00.36 >>>Now, it's the same thing, Jesus said to that- that 00:14:00.39\00:14:02.60 Samaritan woman at the well, you know. There in the Book of 00:14:02.63\00:14:05.69 John >>Uhh hmm >>>He says, "Woman-" Now remember, 00:14:05.72\00:14:08.49 this woman worships God >Yes >>>She's an off-shoot of the 00:14:08.52\00:14:11.39 Jews >Yeah >>That's right >>>OK and 00:14:11.42\00:14:13.73 >But she- and she- but she is- she is a God worship- she's not 00:14:13.76\00:14:16.38 >>>She's worshiping God >That's right. The God of Heaven 00:14:16.41\00:14:18.03 >>>but she's not worshiping God in the prescribed way >Right. 00:14:18.06\00:14:19.96 >>>and what Jesus says to her, when she ask Him a question, 00:14:20.74\00:14:22.78 "Where shall we worship?" and He says, "Woman, you don't 00:14:22.81\00:14:25.36 know what you worship " 00:14:25.39\00:14:26.52 "We know what we worship. Salvation is of the Jews. " 00:14:26.55\00:14:29.58 and then He says, "Those who worship God must worship 00:14:29.61\00:14:32.20 Him in spirit and in truth for God seeks such to worship Him. " 00:14:32.23\00:14:37.52 So some people will say, "Oh, I just worship God in the 00:14:37.55\00:14:40.29 spirit. " >>Uhh hmm >>>It's not enough >That's right. 00:14:40.32\00:14:42.63 >>>Some people say, "I have the truth. " Not enough. 00:14:42.66\00:14:45.58 >It's not enough >>>Both are lost >>That's right 00:14:45.61\00:14:48.17 >>>God says, "You gotta join the Spirit and truth together" 00:14:48.20\00:14:50.95 and only an in-dwelling Holy Spirit can we do that 00:14:50.98\00:14:53.47 >>That's right >That's right, that's good. 00:14:53.50\00:14:55.59 OK. So, let's go back here. So now we've got- we've got Cain, 00:14:55.62\00:14:59.88 we've got Abel and we've talked about how they did 00:14:59.91\00:15:03.75 their sacrifice but I'd- I'd like to go to... 00:15:03.78\00:15:07.15 I hate these glasses but I got to put them on. Tell you what! 00:15:07.18\00:15:10.19 >>>Sign of age. I've got mine, right here >OK. 00:15:10.22\00:15:12.79 >>>Never leave home without them. 00:15:12.82\00:15:14.02 >And Mark, you just have yours on all the time 00:15:14.05\00:15:16.51 >>All the time >>> I was born with them >>I'm prepared. 00:15:16.54\00:15:18.09 >OK. If you go to Genesis Chapter 4 >>Yeah 00:15:18.12\00:15:21.51 >I love Chapter or verse 7. 00:15:21.54\00:15:24.46 I think that tremendous. It says, 00:15:24.49\00:15:26.20 Now, God is speaking to Cain right here, before he kills 00:15:27.90\00:15:31.60 Abel >>Uhh hmm> He says, 00:15:31.63\00:15:32.60 So there's some work he's got to do. 00:15:35.64\00:15:37.09 What- what has he got to do well? 00:15:37.12\00:15:38.35 >>Hey he's- and- and- and just a point on that 00:15:38.38\00:15:41.26 that's very important. God expected Cain to know, 00:15:41.29\00:15:45.93 that he was expected to obey >Yes >>In other words, 00:15:45.96\00:15:49.41 God doesn't tell Cain like it's a revelation to him >Right 00:15:49.44\00:15:51.78 >>He says, "Cain you know this? If you obey, if you do well. " 00:15:51.81\00:15:54.87 What wasn't he doing well? He didn't do what God said. 00:15:54.90\00:15:57.34 So you get Christians, they say, "Well, God doesn't 00:15:57.37\00:15:59.40 expect us to do what He said" but God expected Cain to 00:15:59.43\00:16:02.30 understand already >>>Yes >>is a given >>>That's right 00:16:02.33\00:16:04.57 >>"Cain, you know this? >Well 00:16:04.60\00:16:05.57 >>If you obey me >Yeah >>things will go well 00:16:05.58\00:16:08.40 If you don't obey me, what can you expect but what?" 00:16:08.43\00:16:10.52 What's it going to say? 00:16:10.55\00:16:11.52 >Well, in- in 2 just did- he knew, how did he know? Because 00:16:11.53\00:16:15.39 it wasn't like there was 15 generations >>Yeah and 00:16:15.42\00:16:17.74 everything was forgot >>Yeah > with the Garden of Eden. The 00:16:17.77\00:16:19.82 Garden of Eden was still on the face on the Earth, they couldn't 00:16:19.85\00:16:21.83 >>>That's right >go in it. I mean, who was Cain's Mother 00:16:21.86\00:16:25.48 and Father? Adam and Eve >>>Adam and Eve >>Yeah 00:16:25.51\00:16:27.30 >and they failed the test of obedience >>Exactly 00:16:27.33\00:16:29.72 >>>In one generation >and it wasn't a big test > In just 00:16:29.75\00:16:30.87 >>>one generation >>Right >So, anyway, obviously he did know. 00:16:30.90\00:16:34.12 It says, 00:16:34.15\00:16:35.12 Or, you- you had a couple different >>>I did >translations 00:16:47.69\00:16:49.42 >>>If you read this same passage, Genesis 4 verse 7, in 00:16:49.45\00:16:53.38 The New International Version, it's translated, 00:16:53.41\00:16:56.08 >OK 00:17:03.71\00:17:04.68 >>>Then the revised, the standard version says, 00:17:04.69\00:17:06.26 What's God telling us there? People will say, "Sin is no 00:17:11.88\00:17:14.96 big deal. God understands. 00:17:14.99\00:17:16.66 He knows my heart. " >>Uhh hmm 00:17:16.69\00:17:17.91 >>>What's God saying here? He's saying, look >>That is so >>>the 00:17:17.94\00:17:22.35 only way, notice what God says. He says, "Sin is lying at your 00:17:22.38\00:17:25.41 door. " How did- how did Cain sin? He opened the door >Yeah 00:17:25.44\00:17:28.24 >>>and let sin in. You see, sin cannot come in 00:17:28.27\00:17:31.61 against our will. I tell people this, 00:17:31.64\00:17:34.16 "I'm going to tell you a guaranteed way to be saved. 00:17:34.19\00:17:36.11 Guaranteed, if you'll do this, you'll be saved. " 00:17:36.14\00:17:38.00 You know what it is? Every time, sin knocks 00:17:38.03\00:17:41.00 on your door, you say, "Oh God, could you get 00:17:41.03\00:17:43.59 the door please?" >>That's right >>>and God gets the door >Yeah 00:17:43.62\00:17:46.67 >>>Jesus- Jesus loves to answer doors >Right 00:17:46.70\00:17:48.38 >>>He answers the door and Satan says, 00:17:48.41\00:17:49.81 "What are you doing here?" >That's right 00:17:49.84\00:17:51.27 >>>The Lord says, "Dane died last night >Yeah 00:17:51.30\00:17:53.60 >>>I'm living here now. What would you like. " 00:17:53.63\00:17:54.85 >>>Satan says, >Yeah >>>"Nothing >>>Yeah>>>Just passing 00:17:54.88\00:17:56.45 through. " >That's right >>>Our problem is, we see Jesus do 00:17:56.48\00:17:59.73 that 4 or 5 times. We say, "Piece of cake >Yeah 00:17:59.76\00:18:02.48 >>>I can do that. Hey Lord, I'll answer the door next time. " 00:18:02.51\00:18:04.43 He says, "No please. " "Lord- Lord, I'll take it. " 00:18:04.46\00:18:06.30 The Lord will never force you, to let Him answer the door 00:18:06.33\00:18:09.28 >That's right >>> but we got to remember, when Je- when God said 00:18:09.31\00:18:11.48 "Sin lies at the door, but you must master it, 00:18:11.51\00:18:15.64 through my power. " >Yes. 00:18:15.67\00:18:17.13 >>>Let me answer the door, Cain. And, what's really interesting 00:18:17.16\00:18:20.16 in this passage. Notice it says >I love >>> in verse 6 >that 00:18:20.19\00:18:22.11 >>>Now, that's powerful >Yes. 00:18:29.44\00:18:30.80 >>>because what God- what God is saying here is, God says, 00:18:30.83\00:18:34.25 "I'm watching your countenance. I'm reading your heart. " 00:18:34.28\00:18:37.39 We need to get- start getting into the habit of reading 00:18:37.42\00:18:40.51 our emotions and where we are. So we can say, 00:18:40.54\00:18:42.68 "Oh, wait a minute. I'm going down wrong road here. 00:18:42.71\00:18:44.34 Sin's lying at the door >Yeah >>>It's getting ready to pounce. 00:18:44.37\00:18:46.88 Lord, I'm gonna master it through your power. " 00:18:46.91\00:18:48.53 Start read- Satan's reading your countenance. 00:18:48.56\00:18:51.39 >But why- but why? Why don't we master sin? >>Yeah 00:18:51.42\00:18:54.50 >You know, why we don't? One is, because we don't- 00:18:54.53\00:18:56.83 we don't practice it but >>>Yes 00:18:56.86\00:18:58.22 >the other reasons is- is that, I heard- I heard a Speaker once 00:18:58.25\00:19:01.75 say that, "most of us are asking the Lord 00:19:01.78\00:19:03.99 >>You don't practice mastering it. 00:19:04.02\00:19:05.22 >Yeah. We don't practice mastering it. 00:19:05.25\00:19:06.62 >>We practice enough sin >Right 00:19:06.65\00:19:07.62 but- but- we'll- we- we- we're praying to the Lord, 00:19:08.00\00:19:10.96 "Lord please forgive my sins" >>Uhh hmm 00:19:10.99\00:19:13.17 >and instead of fleeing from temptation >>>That's right 00:19:13.20\00:19:15.86 >closing the door, running as far 00:19:15.89\00:19:17.35 in the opposite direction we can. " 00:19:17.38\00:19:18.45 You know, there's one Speaker said that, "You- you're kind of 00:19:18.48\00:19:21.56 crawling on your hands and knees, 00:19:21.59\00:19:23.02 praying, 'Lord, please take this sin away from me,' 00:19:23.05\00:19:25.23 looking behind you, hoping that sin catches up, cause you really 00:19:25.26\00:19:28.24 desire to do it. " >>Yeah >That's the point. The point is, 00:19:28.27\00:19:30.41 >>>"Lord, I tried to get away but it outran me.
