Well, Daniel chapter 6
fascinating story, of course,

many people are
familiar with the story of

Daniel in the Lion's
Den in a general way.
00:03:15.30\00:03:17.80
But what happened
here is that Daniel,
00:03:17.83\00:03:19.95
we talked about
Daniel earlier being a,
00:03:19.98\00:03:21.85
as a young Hebrew boy who
was taken captive to Babylon
00:03:21.88\00:03:25.16
Well, the Babylonians are
conquered by the Persians and
00:03:25.19\00:03:27.87
we're now in the Persian empire.
00:03:27.90\00:03:29.32
And Daniel is nearing
his 90th year of life,
00:03:29.35\00:03:33.21
And so he's lived a long
life in the service of the Lord.
00:03:33.87\00:03:36.98
And as he comes into the
land of Persia, immediately they
00:03:37.01\00:03:42.28
recognized something different
in Daniel and the king Darius
00:03:42.31\00:03:46.46
decides that he
wants to put Daniel in the
00:03:46.49\00:03:48.67
position of
leadership. He's already in the
00:03:48.70\00:03:50.32
position of
leadership if you read the
00:03:50.35\00:03:51.47
beginning of the
chapter but he wants to put him
00:03:51.50\00:03:53.84
in as the head of overall
his realm, overall the governors
00:03:53.87\00:03:57.93
and the satraps etc. and,
of course, the Persians get
00:03:57.96\00:04:02.34
jealous of this Hebrew that
would come in and be over them
00:04:02.37\00:04:07.08
and so they begin looking
something in Daniel and find
00:04:07.11\00:04:09.61
fault with him to get him
into trouble but the only thing
00:04:09.64\00:04:12.14
they can find... they can't
anything except for the Bible
00:04:12.17\00:04:15.78
says in the way that
he worshiped his God.
00:04:15.81\00:04:17.19
So they set a
trap, so that they urged
00:04:17.22\00:04:20.99
the kingdom to make
a decree and put into
00:04:21.02\00:04:24.04
law that nobody can pray to any
other god except for the king.
00:04:24.07\00:04:27.51
Which many of these foreign
countries view their king as
00:04:27.54\00:04:31.44
as deities or some kind of god.
00:04:31.47\00:04:34.21
and they said, "King, nobody
can worship any other god or
00:04:34.24\00:04:37.84
pray to any god except you for
00:04:37.87\00:04:39.90
thirty days. And the
king had in mind Daniel
00:04:39.93\00:04:44.23
or somebody who was
have a different religion.
00:04:44.26\00:04:46.45
He thought, "Hey, this
sounds a great thing to me"
00:04:46.48\00:04:48.44
and long behold it became,
as I've said a snare to Daniel
00:04:48.47\00:04:51.76
And when the law was
made Daniel had to determine
00:04:51.79\00:04:54.37
is he gonna worship God
the way he always has or is he
00:04:54.40\00:04:57.28
gonna capitulate and we find
Daniel faithful once again and
00:04:57.31\00:05:00.90
because of His faithfulness they
decided they're gonna throw him
00:05:00.93\00:05:03.14
into the lion's den.
They have him brought out one
00:05:03.17\00:05:06.16
charges before the king.
And Daniel stood in the den
00:05:06.19\00:05:09.05
of lions and the Lord delivers
Daniel from the den of lions.
00:05:09.08\00:05:15.72
And I think we will see a
little bit more as we go into
00:05:15.75\00:05:17.80
the story, but that's
the story in the nutshell.

You know as you were sharing
this, think about this...
00:05:20.05\00:05:23.00
Daniel was in high command with
00:05:23.03\00:05:27.96
the Babylonian
empire. I don't know about
00:05:27.99\00:05:30.40
you but there's
not too many people
00:05:30.43\00:05:32.02
that can be so
loyal to an empire
00:05:32.05\00:05:35.19
and this empire gets
taken down and then brand new
00:05:35.22\00:05:38.62
empire set up.
And here's this guy,
00:05:38.65\00:05:40.99
he's ninety, I mean this guy
00:05:41.02\00:05:41.99
ninety years old
whatever his old...
00:05:42.00\00:05:43.75
ought to be put out to pasture
00:05:43.78\00:05:45.73
I mean his ready to die, I mean
even back then ninety years old
00:05:45.77\00:05:48.64
was an old person and yet this
Persian king saw something in
00:05:48.67\00:05:55.73
Daniel that he didn't
have with the other ones.
00:05:55.76\00:05:58.20
There was a loyalty there not
so much to the Babylon empire
00:05:58.23\00:06:01.84
or to the Persian empire but
to God and because he was loyal
00:06:01.87\00:06:04.34
to this God of Heaven,
he was loyal to the king?
00:06:04.37\00:06:07.24
And they could see that, I mean,
think of that, how can anyone
00:06:07.27\00:06:10.34
normally when you have
become this and they bring some
00:06:10.37\00:06:13.07
new leader in, many times
the other leaders kind of get to
00:06:13.10\00:06:19.02
let go because they have their
own ideas and you're trying to
00:06:19.05\00:06:21.72
make a name for
yourself and whatever...
00:06:21.75\00:06:23.65
but here Daniel, he is
so honourable and so honest
00:06:23.68\00:06:28.43
and truthful that the king sees
it and makes him the highest.
00:06:28.46\00:06:32.46
And Dwight, probably make
many decisions that Daniel made
00:06:33.11\00:06:37.64
were decisions that at the time
look like they would cost him.
00:06:37.67\00:06:41.42
In other words, hey, I'm
not gonna get a promotion
00:06:41.45\00:06:43.63
I'm gonna get a demotion
if I don't lose my life.
00:06:43.66\00:06:46.15
You know we see
this in Daniel's life.
00:06:46.18\00:06:47.62
There's seem other places
the Bible but interesting how,
00:06:47.65\00:06:50.44
you know, the devil always makes
it look like being faithful
00:06:50.47\00:06:53.67
to God is gonna
cost you something.
00:06:53.70\00:06:55.05
And sometimes in this world we
00:06:55.08\00:06:58.76
never do gain what we
could as for we're followers
00:06:58.79\00:07:03.07
of God, but you know, because
this world is not our reward
00:07:03.10\00:07:08.03
as Christians. But the
Bible also records many
00:07:08.06\00:07:11.40
occasions that,
you know, Jesus Himself
00:07:11.43\00:07:13.25
said in John 10:10
that He came that we
00:07:13.29\00:07:15.08
might have life and
have it more abundantly.
00:07:15.11\00:07:16.76
So it's not only as we
look for a future reward
00:07:16.79\00:07:20.25
but God rewards his
people in this life too
00:07:20.28\00:07:22.40
and we see that Daniel's life.
00:07:22.43\00:07:23.86
And you mention, Dane, in a
show that we did with Lot and
00:07:23.89\00:07:28.64
Abraham that we're not on this
Earth, like you said, we're not
00:07:28.67\00:07:32.24
on this earth to see
how much money we can make,
00:07:32.27\00:07:34.09
or the prestige that we
can have or how many degrees
00:07:34.64\00:07:37.24
that we can get.
We're here to honor God.
00:07:37.27\00:07:40.51
And whether Daniel
was in a high position
00:07:40.54\00:07:43.18
or low position or no position.
00:07:43.21\00:07:45.36
His, his whole
character, his whole, his whole
00:07:45.39\00:07:50.23
body, his whole
mind was burdened
00:07:50.26\00:07:54.22
it being right before God.
And I think that is tremendous.
00:07:54.25\00:07:57.85
And I think that's why he
was in the position He was in.
00:07:57.88\00:08:00.07
You know, the Bible says,
00:08:00.10\00:08:01.07
"All have sinned and fallen
short of the glory of God. "
00:08:01.08\00:08:02.96
But there are two men in the
Bible besides Jesus, excuse me
00:08:03.02\00:08:06.66
besides Jesus that we see
no record of anything ever been
00:08:06.69\00:08:09.31
done wrong and
that's Daniel and Joseph.
00:08:09.34\00:08:10.94
And, Daniel 1 Daniel
was brought into favor
00:08:11.51\00:08:15.45
with Nebuchadnezzar.
00:08:15.48\00:08:16.47
The Bible says because
an excellent spirit was
00:08:16.50\00:08:18.99
found in him and
then again in Daniel 6
00:08:19.02\00:08:21.87
He's again brought in
favor and this tells us
00:08:21.90\00:08:25.06
something as Christians.
00:08:25.09\00:08:26.37
We should not be
"bystanders" in the world.
00:08:26.40\00:08:30.70
We should be having an
influence in our community.
00:08:30.73\00:08:33.38
We should be having an influence
00:08:33.41\00:08:34.66
in our church, we
should be having an influence
00:08:34.69\00:08:36.33
in our family, why?
00:08:36.36\00:08:37.51
Because were great? NO!
00:08:37.54\00:08:39.14
Because God is
living through us.

And when God is living
through you and when you are

taking stands for
God, God blesses you.

God blesses you and you
make a difference in the world.

That's right, the Bible
says, "I can do all things

through Christ
who strengthens me. "

I think sometimes we make
excuses we say, "Well I...

I don't know. " You
know, we look at our
00:08:58.97\00:09:00.31
weaknesses and it's true.

We're weak as
human beings but God
00:09:01.55\00:09:03.60
is strong. And one
of the most fascinating

things about this story

is as you go into
Daniel 6 its says,

Now if your enemies...

undertake to find some
kind flaw in your life...

and I think of that.
How long it would take?

I mean I would like to say that
they could find nothing in me,

but the fact that the matters
is there are probably things,
00:09:34.08\00:09:36.75
it probably wouldn't take
to long to find some flaw.

Daniel, what a
character is exhibited

here of somebody
that they could scower

over his life and really
find nothing to find fault with

except for verse 5,
concerning the law of His God.

To put it into perspective...

Daniel's number 2
in the whole country.

That means he's dealing
with politics, he's dealing with
00:09:58.68\00:10:01.16
state decision, he's dealing
with the power and the prestige

and the temptations,
00:10:06.07\00:10:07.09
and yet even then
the very people who work
00:10:07.12\00:10:09.70
with him on a daily
basis, they're drafting
00:10:09.73\00:10:12.63
the laws with him.
00:10:12.66\00:10:13.81
They're enforcing
the laws with him.
00:10:13.84\00:10:15.83
They're making
decisions with him.
00:10:15.86\00:10:17.82
And they say, "We
can't find a single chink
00:10:17.85\00:10:20.46
in his armor!"
00:10:20.49\00:10:21.46
Yes. So to put it in
perceptive, like you he said,

think of one politician today.
00:10:23.36\00:10:25.17
Or you could
scower over their whole
00:10:25.20\00:10:26.75
record and find
nothing wrong with them.

Because, because
Daniel wasn't a politician.

He was a states man.

He was a state man
and he cared more about

the realm of the people,

what is best for the people,
what is best for the king and

that's why it says here
too, Dane, in verse 3 says,

I mean, the excellent spirit was
that he cared more for the king

cared more for the
people what was right than
00:10:56.78\00:10:59.22
what is best for him.

I always told my children
when they were growing up.

I said, "If you're working
life is to clean toilets,

be the best toilet
cleaner the world's ever seen.

And God will bless you.

If your only job is to change
dirty diapers in a laundry,

in a nursery all day long,
be the best most faithful diaper

changer and you can
hold your head high. "

It doesn't matter
what position you have.

It's how you hold the position.

How you do your job?

God in the marketplace?

people, you can trust me

that God tells me to make.

that they have, that
you work your hardest.

says he that is faithful in

was not working for Darius

The law that was
made was a law regarding

worship and as Daniel is
in apocalyptic book that's the

companion to the
Book of Revelation.

We see the same thing in the
00:12:48.55\00:12:49.52
book of Revelation in
the End Time scenario is
00:12:49.53\00:12:51.91
we see a law. In fact,
00:12:51.94\00:12:52.91
we've seen it twice in Daniel.
00:12:52.92\00:12:54.41
Earlier, last season, we talked
about the three Hebrew Worthies
00:12:54.45\00:12:58.72
before the fire
furnace. Same thing.
00:12:58.75\00:13:00.79
King Nebuchadnezzar made a law
00:13:00.82\00:13:02.42
concerning worship
and compelling men against
00:13:02.45\00:13:05.08
their conscience and they
had to take a stand and here we

we have Daniel,
in Daniel 6 finding

the same situation a law that's
commanded him to go contrary

to the worship of His God.

And so Daniel has
a decision to make.

And it's interesting,
you see the issue of worship

in Daniel 3, you
see it in Daniel 6,

you see in Revelation 13 and 14.

That word worshipped,
worship or worshiping is found

7 or 8 times on those two
chapters of book of Revelation.

Which shows us,
and it's interesting,

we're told that Babylon would be

major force, spiritual
Babylon, at the end of time.

try to enforce false

worship and we've got to stand
like Daniel, we've got to be...

important thing here.

just coming after the

fall of literal of Babylon.

Babylon fell but Daniel escaped.

Because of his faithfulness.
We're talking about

The Bible says in Romans,

"It's written for us upon whom

the ends of the
world are come. "

That's why we're
looking for practical lessons.

The Bible calls
this the Living Word.

any two edged sword.

But we can't allow anyone
