ASI is a ministry that's networking all these 00:00:01.98\00:00:02.95 different ministries together with the church 00:00:03.00\00:00:05.54 and lay people. Being involved with ASI, 00:00:05.71\00:00:06.68 meeting other people. ASI convention is an 00:00:06.69\00:00:08.92 excellent opportunity, just a great opportunity. 00:00:09.23\00:00:11.77 In ASI, there is a particular fellow. 00:00:12.03\00:00:14.36 ASI is really the stamp, it's the glue 00:00:14.47\00:00:16.51 that holds all the ministries together. 00:00:16.64\00:00:18.20 Welcome to ASI Video Magazine. 00:00:31.31\00:00:33.16 I'm Conna Bond. As an ASI Member 00:00:33.57\00:00:36.10 Organization Outpost Centers International or 00:00:36.22\00:00:38.53 OCI has been sharing Christ in the 00:00:38.69\00:00:40.58 marketplace for a very long time. 00:00:40.64\00:00:42.40 Based in Apison, Tennessee OCI is actually 00:00:43.42\00:00:45.78 a family of lay ministries located all over 00:00:45.96\00:00:47.79 the world. Each ministry works with the local 00:00:47.84\00:00:50.55 Adventist church leadership to strengthen 00:00:50.59\00:00:52.65 the church and its mission. Today, we will 00:00:52.72\00:00:54.81 visit two of those ministries that 00:00:54.95\00:00:56.26 are sharing Christ in Africa. 00:00:56.29\00:00:58.09 Riverside Farm Institute was established 00:01:01.74\00:01:03.49 in the 1970s by Wildwood another ASI and OCI 00:01:03.58\00:01:07.14 member. Its large gardens and banana 00:01:07.20\00:01:09.55 plantations help to support the ministry located 00:01:09.63\00:01:12.25 on the edge of the Kafue River in Zambia, Africa. 00:01:12.32\00:01:15.16 Riverside Farm a tremendous ministry, 00:01:21.14\00:01:23.14 it's been in existence for close to 00:01:23.24\00:01:25.63 30 years and in a very diverse program 00:01:25.69\00:01:28.79 and then we have a tremendous means 00:01:31.25\00:01:32.64 of support a very active farm. 00:01:32.67\00:01:35.27 They grow maze, they have a mill, 00:01:35.83\00:01:38.07 which grinds maze into a flour which is one 00:01:38.10\00:01:41.43 of the staple foods in Zambia and 00:01:41.50\00:01:43.65 a fantastic banana plantation. 00:01:43.68\00:01:45.38 One of the great strength of Riverside 00:01:51.24\00:01:52.74 Farm Institute is division that the original 00:01:52.84\00:01:56.44 founder or start of this place had. 00:01:57.02\00:01:58.91 This was Dr. Foster, he was a doctor who 00:01:59.02\00:02:01.26 worked in Lusaka had a medical practice 00:02:01.48\00:02:03.29 and he liked farms and he bought this 00:02:03.32\00:02:05.50 place in the 1950s from a British farmer. 00:02:05.59\00:02:08.04 At that time of course it was a smaller 00:02:08.76\00:02:10.74 much smaller undertaking then it is 00:02:10.80\00:02:12.35 currently, but he saw the potential of the 00:02:12.50\00:02:15.12 place because it was immediately along the 00:02:15.21\00:02:17.85 river which is a huge asset to now that 00:02:17.93\00:02:20.30 we are using everyday almost and then 00:02:20.40\00:02:22.87 he saw that it was close to the town where 00:02:22.90\00:02:24.83 just about an hours drive from the capital, 00:02:24.93\00:02:26.94 so these strategic location is just perfect. 00:02:27.32\00:02:30.25 It's exactly what Ellen White says should be 00:02:30.36\00:02:32.11 the case for ozur lifestyle centers and 00:02:32.18\00:02:33.79 we are greatly benefiting from that today. 00:02:33.86\00:02:35.69 Our primary purpose really is four fold. 00:02:39.63\00:02:41.38 Number one, we are trying to be self 00:02:41.76\00:02:44.23 supporting meaning that our operational 00:02:44.26\00:02:46.70 expenses is generated through our 00:02:46.73\00:02:48.11 industries. Number two, we are trying to 00:02:48.27\00:02:50.24 be active in Evangelism and we are and 00:02:50.27\00:02:52.52 the Lord is blessing greatly. Number three, 00:02:52.58\00:02:54.64 we are trying to provide community services. 00:02:54.71\00:02:58.13 We do this through mobile clinics. 00:02:58.17\00:02:59.76 We do it through our static clinic, 00:02:59.81\00:03:01.74 vaccination programs, children under 00:03:02.21\00:03:04.21 five and to natal care, etc. We are also 00:03:04.24\00:03:07.01 doing it through our lifestyle centre, 00:03:07.05\00:03:08.28 where we reach upper and middle classes 00:03:08.42\00:03:09.93 and finally we are also very active and have 00:03:10.84\00:03:13.33 always been in education. So, we are offering 00:03:13.45\00:03:16.75 four adult education programs. 00:03:16.95\00:03:19.04 One in tailoring for women, who want to 00:03:19.13\00:03:21.18 learn how to make their cloth. Then we 00:03:21.21\00:03:23.17 have a scientific gardening seminar, 00:03:23.20\00:03:25.61 where people come either self sponsored 00:03:26.03\00:03:28.45 maybe the sugar industry sponsor 00:03:28.48\00:03:31.41 somebody, so that they learn more about 00:03:31.51\00:03:33.21 agriculture, horticulture and then go back 00:03:33.27\00:03:35.02 to work on their farm and we also have 00:03:35.38\00:03:37.60 an Evangelism program where we train 00:03:38.15\00:03:39.92 potentially lay Bible workers to go out 00:03:39.97\00:03:41.74 and work with Pastors, with lay 00:03:41.84\00:03:43.55 Evangelists and raise new congregations are 00:03:44.08\00:03:46.47 helping their churches and finally we also have 00:03:46.54\00:03:48.59 a Medical Missionary Program and we 00:03:48.62\00:03:50.28 train people to be medical missionaries 00:03:50.34\00:03:52.38 using natural remedies. 00:03:52.55\00:03:53.64 Our course goes for four months, 00:04:00.12\00:04:01.97 and now they have done just about one and 00:04:02.61\00:04:05.61 a half month. So they have gone so far. 00:04:05.66\00:04:09.53 After they are done, some they have 00:04:12.50\00:04:14.12 their own machines at home, some go 00:04:14.25\00:04:16.13 and buy their machines and they start 00:04:16.21\00:04:17.61 working yeah on their own when they leave 00:04:17.73\00:04:21.39 this place they are really tailors. 00:04:21.47\00:04:23.44 Because here they are making their suits, 00:04:23.95\00:04:25.71 so they continue making their own 00:04:25.75\00:04:27.31 clothes and some for selling. 00:04:27.51\00:04:30.17 We do devotion here. We share the Word of 00:04:37.29\00:04:40.94 God, not only sewing yeah. And when that 00:04:41.06\00:04:47.07 they go out there they have to make sure 00:04:47.10\00:04:48.07 the clothes they make it brings glory to God. 00:04:48.08\00:04:50.22 Our students when they come here, 00:04:54.09\00:04:55.32 they come to learn gardening most of 00:04:55.81\00:04:58.07 them only gardening, but when they 00:04:58.13\00:04:59.98 come here we share with them every week. 00:05:00.08\00:05:02.11 They learn the Word of God. They learn 00:05:02.24\00:05:04.36 health lessons. And so it helps them to 00:05:04.42\00:05:08.16 change their lifestyle habits and also 00:05:08.28\00:05:11.82 grow spiritually. Almost every year we 00:05:11.96\00:05:15.08 baptize some of our students who are 00:05:15.24\00:05:17.53 non-SDAs, because you know, 00:05:17.65\00:05:19.59 the tailoring course and the gardening 00:05:19.65\00:05:21.14 course is open to people of all faiths and 00:05:21.31\00:05:24.52 those who don't profess any faith. 00:05:24.78\00:05:26.97 And so students learn more than what 00:05:27.86\00:05:30.98 they applied for. That is a big 00:05:31.12\00:05:33.48 blessing to the communities. 00:05:33.63\00:05:35.62 ASI has been supportive to both OCI 00:05:53.63\00:05:55.85 and his members in lots of ways primarily 00:05:55.92\00:05:58.00 there is that spiritual dynamic at an ASI 00:05:58.10\00:06:00.76 convention, where you hear reports in 00:06:00.85\00:06:03.50 your fellowship. OCI and its members get 00:06:03.76\00:06:06.56 that spiritual benefit as well ASI has 00:06:06.66\00:06:09.67 been a tremendous resource financially 00:06:09.71\00:06:12.45 to help a lot of projects. For example, 00:06:12.61\00:06:15.11 Riverside is able to take care of its own 00:06:15.38\00:06:17.94 operating costs. It supports its own 00:06:18.00\00:06:19.74 Evangelism, all its salaries through its 00:06:19.79\00:06:22.79 industries, but when Riverside had the 00:06:23.03\00:06:25.45 vision of starting a lifestyle centre we 00:06:25.49\00:06:27.80 needed some extra help, some capital 00:06:27.83\00:06:29.75 funding and ASI came through a very 00:06:29.90\00:06:32.00 strategic time for us to get us over an 00:06:32.22\00:06:34.32 important hump in order to 00:06:34.47\00:06:36.08 get the lifestyle centre going. 00:06:36.14\00:06:37.64 The centre officially opened in 2006, 00:06:40.64\00:06:44.11 the beginning of 2006, but it took a 00:06:44.18\00:06:47.03 period of about two years in the planning 00:06:47.17\00:06:49.08 and the construction and getting it 00:06:49.16\00:06:50.55 altogether before the actual opening. 00:06:50.64\00:06:53.88 The visitors coming here to our centre 00:06:57.01\00:06:59.19 are mostly from the city Lusaka. 00:06:59.23\00:07:02.01 We are aiming at the higher income groups, 00:07:02.76\00:07:04.74 so we have many government officials, 00:07:04.89\00:07:06.64 ministers from the government that are 00:07:07.39\00:07:10.87 coming here. I think one of the most 00:07:11.00\00:07:13.17 interesting high profile visitors we have had 00:07:13.20\00:07:15.43 at our centre is a visit by his Excellency 00:07:15.53\00:07:19.39 Dr. Kenneth Kaunda who is the first 00:07:19.53\00:07:21.50 President of Zambia. Now he has played 00:07:21.57\00:07:24.18 a very important role in the government, 00:07:24.21\00:07:27.83 in the history of Zambia and the people love 00:07:27.96\00:07:30.86 him and His Excellency retired and yet 00:07:30.94\00:07:34.42 he is still full of energy, but he felt a 00:07:34.72\00:07:37.26 need to come to the centre to 00:07:37.29\00:07:38.91 just get a little kick start again. 00:07:38.96\00:07:41.56 And I've been a vegetarian ever since, 00:07:43.55\00:07:45.53 and I've enjoyed it. When I came 00:07:46.41\00:07:48.23 here, stayed here, I've felt at home. 00:07:48.29\00:07:52.92 I think by the time guests come to the 00:07:55.78\00:07:57.71 centre when they have made the decision. 00:07:57.74\00:07:59.26 They are reasonably open, but they have 00:07:59.75\00:08:03.19 some uncertainty, some fears maybe. 00:08:03.24\00:08:06.03 When they start on the program and they 00:08:06.78\00:08:08.82 experience plant based foods, a two 00:08:09.26\00:08:12.12 meal a day plan. That is little bit 00:08:12.20\00:08:15.09 threatening to them. In the first two, 00:08:15.73\00:08:17.21 three days I think a lot of adaptation 00:08:17.36\00:08:19.27 takes place, but once they come through to 00:08:19.34\00:08:21.79 the fourth day, the fifth day. They start 00:08:21.82\00:08:24.17 flying and then you hear the positive 00:08:24.47\00:08:26.56 responses and then they get enthusiastic 00:08:26.70\00:08:28.69 and then the fears are gone. 00:08:28.74\00:08:30.04 I learned to have my breakfast and enjoy it, 00:08:31.44\00:08:35.34 to have my lunch and enjoy it, 00:08:36.98\00:08:38.77 but no supper. It just affected my 00:08:40.40\00:08:46.26 life very well indeed. And I'm grateful. 00:08:46.33\00:08:50.79 ASI has been a major impact on our 00:08:58.49\00:09:02.10 campus here. They have helped us with 00:09:02.59\00:09:06.06 the dormitory you see behind us here. 00:09:07.19\00:09:09.65 The Wellness Center that we have up on 00:09:10.92\00:09:12.41 the hill, there are major factor in helping 00:09:12.44\00:09:14.27 get that up and running for us. 00:09:14.30\00:09:15.90 Cafeteria is one of our projects that was 00:09:16.80\00:09:19.74 about ten years ago before that it was 00:09:19.83\00:09:22.66 just a little hole in the wall where they 00:09:22.69\00:09:25.07 squeezed in and some of them had to come 00:09:25.14\00:09:26.74 in and as some left others could fed into 00:09:26.77\00:09:29.12 their and it was a kind of a tight quarters, 00:09:29.15\00:09:31.70 but its been a real blessing the Cafeteria. 00:09:31.84\00:09:34.17 One of them are recent projects ASI has 00:09:37.07\00:09:38.98 contributed to us are, enlarging our banana 00:09:39.01\00:09:42.69 plantation. The bananas have been a 00:09:42.82\00:09:45.07 basis of our economic viability here 00:09:45.33\00:09:48.54 at Riverside for so many years. 00:09:48.57\00:09:50.39 As long as Riverside has been a farm, 00:09:51.74\00:09:53.23 before it was bought by Dr. Foster it 00:09:53.60\00:09:55.30 was already a banana place and its still 00:09:55.33\00:09:56.93 is. And with the help of ASI, we were able 00:09:57.01\00:09:59.68 to bridge a huge problem that we had 00:09:59.71\00:10:01.26 in 2005 when the whole banana plantation had 00:10:01.29\00:10:04.31 to be ploughed under and destroyed thousands 00:10:04.34\00:10:06.32 of trees are machetes their call had 00:10:06.35\00:10:08.37 to be destroyed because of the virus 00:10:08.46\00:10:10.29 disease and with the help of ASI we were 00:10:10.35\00:10:12.49 able to restart it and it is doing quite okay 00:10:12.54\00:10:15.53 now. We are still scouting vigilantly and 00:10:15.76\00:10:18.68 we are able to harvest 500 tons in one 00:10:19.23\00:10:21.98 year and we are on track to keep 00:10:22.01\00:10:23.91 going and growing even more. 00:10:24.88\00:10:25.85 The growing of bananas like that helps 00:10:31.97\00:10:36.90 ordinary people come and learn how to 00:10:37.04\00:10:39.43 do that. What is in many ways more 00:10:40.32\00:10:44.73 important is the spiritual side of teaching 00:10:44.79\00:10:50.19 here. It is extremely important. 00:10:50.28\00:10:53.15 It's practical. They help many other young 00:10:55.10\00:10:57.74 people to learn how to look after themselves 00:10:57.77\00:11:01.51 physically, to look after themselves 00:11:02.22\00:11:04.77 spiritually. It's the center of great 00:11:04.98\00:11:08.56 importance in my humble opinion. 00:11:08.59\00:11:10.37 The main goals have been to, you know, 00:11:11.84\00:11:13.93 to hasten the coming of Jesus; to reach 00:11:14.43\00:11:16.91 people, many Zambians who don't know 00:11:16.95\00:11:21.76 about God and about the preparation for 00:11:21.81\00:11:25.53 the life to come. That our life is not just 00:11:25.62\00:11:28.32 this life, but there is a life to come. 00:11:28.80\00:11:31.02 So that has been our main interest in the 00:11:31.80\00:11:34.98 people. It is to help people with the 00:11:35.10\00:11:38.08 Gospel and with better living. 00:11:38.13\00:11:39.97 Well, I'll say to everybody who wants to 00:11:40.58\00:11:42.70 start a project like this. It's only possible 00:11:42.84\00:11:45.68 with plenty of self sacrifice. If we are, 00:11:45.75\00:11:48.07 where we are now and we are truly a 00:11:48.10\00:11:49.74 lighthouse to many people. There are 00:11:49.79\00:11:51.50 thousands of people that have come to 00:11:51.57\00:11:53.29 Riverside as either a staff, but many many 00:11:53.43\00:11:55.67 come as visitors also. We send our workers 00:11:55.70\00:11:58.49 out sometimes to conduct to go to churches 00:11:58.52\00:12:00.83 to share what churches do, seminars in 00:12:00.86\00:12:02.68 churches and all of that is only possible 00:12:02.81\00:12:04.96 because before us many people have been 00:12:04.99\00:12:06.81 willing to sacrifice to come here and 00:12:06.84\00:12:09.18 selflessly serve for very little money under 00:12:09.28\00:12:11.82 difficult circumstances. Its blood, sweat and 00:12:11.97\00:12:14.51 tears, but they have come back and gone 00:12:14.54\00:12:16.74 back blessed and they have not regretted it. 00:12:16.83\00:12:20.22 There are so many people who are 00:12:22.84\00:12:24.62 looking for opportunities to go and 00:12:24.71\00:12:27.12 God has opened doors for them whether 00:12:27.25\00:12:30.64 it's coming on a mission trip to Zambia, 00:12:30.67\00:12:33.21 I welcome. Whether it's helping 00:12:33.76\00:12:36.74 financially in the projects that ASI is 00:12:36.82\00:12:39.64 supporting and we are doing here at 00:12:39.67\00:12:41.82 Riverside Farm. Those are great blessings 00:12:41.85\00:12:45.38 as God opens that opportunity to be 00:12:46.13\00:12:48.08 able to make a difference both in your 00:12:48.15\00:12:49.48 lives and the people's life that you can touch. 00:12:49.63\00:12:52.63 Riverside Farm is a Tranquil Paradise 00:12:54.57\00:12:56.63 where Zambians can learn about health 00:12:56.71\00:12:58.24 and healing and about the God who loves 00:12:58.27\00:13:00.30 them and will soon return to take them 00:13:00.33\00:13:01.87 home. Riverside Farm is just one example 00:13:01.96\00:13:04.60 of ASI members working together and 00:13:04.65\00:13:06.76 responding to a unique calling on their 00:13:06.79\00:13:08.87 lives. For more information about Riverside 00:13:08.91\00:13:11.90 Farm Institute visit the Out Post 00:13:11.93\00:13:13.89 Centers International website 00:13:14.08\00:13:15.34 at www. outpostcenters.org. 00:13:15.46\00:13:19.06 Youth for Jesus is really great experience. 00:13:20.07\00:13:22.68 Hearing all the difference speakers. 00:13:22.75\00:13:24.17 You learn how stand up for your faith. 00:13:24.24\00:13:26.04 You learn how to share with others, 00:13:26.21\00:13:28.09 you make friends that will last your 00:13:28.13\00:13:29.79 lifetime. It's indescribable. If you 00:13:29.86\00:13:32.10 want an experience with God, if you want 00:13:32.21\00:13:34.37 your life to be changed. You have to come 00:13:34.53\00:13:36.62 to the Youth for Jesus program. 00:13:36.71\00:13:38.14 You will wanna comeback every year. 00:13:38.41\00:13:40.28 There is a passion that is infectious at ASI. 00:13:50.10\00:13:54.54 Everybody is so passionate about Jesus. 00:13:54.77\00:13:58.13 It's a blessing every time just to rub 00:13:58.39\00:14:00.27 shoulders with people that are excited. 00:14:00.33\00:14:02.32 If you have a passion for Jesus. 00:14:02.46\00:14:04.06 You are gonna find no place that I know 00:14:04.22\00:14:06.36 of where you will find more passion 00:14:06.41\00:14:08.08 by more people than being at ASI. 00:14:08.18\00:14:10.50 Kibidula Farm in Tanzania, Africa is a 00:14:21.75\00:14:23.86 place where seeds are sown and crops 00:14:23.92\00:14:25.79 are grown, but it's so much more than 00:14:25.84\00:14:27.63 that. As a member of OCI's family 00:14:27.72\00:14:30.42 of ministries, it takes ASI's model of 00:14:30.45\00:14:33.15 sharing Christ in the marketplace to new 00:14:33.26\00:14:35.02 heights. Kibidula was established on a 00:14:35.06\00:14:37.77 4776 acre farm in 1989 by a team from 00:14:37.81\00:14:42.86 Riverside Farm Institute. It has a 00:14:42.89\00:14:45.04 dental clinic, an aviation center, 00:14:45.11\00:14:47.10 an agricultural school and a primary 00:14:47.50\00:14:49.15 school, but Kibidula's main focus is 00:14:49.25\00:14:51.95 publishing books in Swahili language and 00:14:52.04\00:14:54.10 training lay missionaries to support 00:14:54.13\00:14:55.74 the work of the Tanzania union 00:14:55.83\00:14:57.35 of Seventh-Day Adventist. 00:14:57.63\00:14:58.80 Kibidula is in the Southern Highlands of 00:15:10.07\00:15:12.15 Tanzania, which is somewhere over 6000 00:15:12.48\00:15:15.75 feet in elevation here. Which makes for 00:15:15.86\00:15:18.50 a fairly cool climate considering, where in 00:15:18.54\00:15:21.84 Africa and on our campus we have a lot 00:15:21.87\00:15:24.86 of nature, we have the Acacia trees which 00:15:24.89\00:15:27.63 is that typical flat top African tree 00:15:27.68\00:15:31.07 that you picture in a African savanna 00:15:31.15\00:15:35.19 with the giraffe in the background. 00:15:35.25\00:15:36.59 Kibidula borders a large marsh land that's 00:15:37.76\00:15:40.95 canoeing that can we done on the marsh 00:15:41.03\00:15:42.58 land. It's a beautiful place to live. 00:15:42.61\00:15:45.09 This originally was a farm belonging 00:15:47.91\00:15:50.59 to a colonial farmer in South Africa and 00:15:50.69\00:15:54.39 when the country gained its independence 00:15:54.43\00:15:56.17 in the 1960s. He decided to return to 00:15:56.26\00:16:00.65 South Africa, so he left the whole farm 00:16:00.82\00:16:03.37 to the Adventist Church. The church 00:16:03.51\00:16:05.72 really was not able to do too much with 00:16:06.09\00:16:08.53 the place. They didn't have the money to 00:16:08.64\00:16:10.11 invest the resources, so it was with a 00:16:10.18\00:16:12.37 caretaker for most of the years from the 00:16:12.46\00:16:14.77 1960s to the late 80s when they asked 00:16:14.87\00:16:19.09 Riverside Farm if they might be able to 00:16:19.20\00:16:21.26 do something with the place. Riverside came 00:16:21.34\00:16:25.52 and looked at the place, made an agreement 00:16:25.55\00:16:27.88 with the church here and formed the team 00:16:27.92\00:16:30.85 and they moved to this place 00:16:31.26\00:16:33.24 and started really from scratch. 00:16:33.36\00:16:35.53 The main focus is Evangelism and important 00:16:40.51\00:16:47.21 part that has become more and more 00:16:47.27\00:16:49.43 important to us is the part of education. 00:16:49.52\00:16:53.62 Education is not available to every 00:16:56.15\00:16:58.71 person in Tanzania. Many people have never 00:16:58.79\00:17:01.99 even finished a secondary school and a 00:17:02.08\00:17:04.60 high school and to get any kind of 00:17:04.79\00:17:08.10 training here, you know it's almost a 00:17:08.18\00:17:10.11 pre-records that you have to have high 00:17:10.21\00:17:11.52 school. We offer our training in Evangelism. 00:17:11.55\00:17:15.41 It's the only possibility many people ever 00:17:16.12\00:17:19.49 have to get any schooling along those 00:17:19.60\00:17:22.67 lines, we don't require secondary school 00:17:22.71\00:17:25.16 you know we take everyone as they come. 00:17:25.73\00:17:27.89 After they finish our school and have 00:17:28.57\00:17:30.02 worked as a lay missionary out in the 00:17:30.05\00:17:32.71 village several of our successful lay missionaries 00:17:32.74\00:17:36.71 have been hired by the Church as pastors, 00:17:36.74\00:17:38.80 so its like a stepping stone that 00:17:39.69\00:17:42.35 no where else could define that. 00:17:43.18\00:17:44.94 I think the Evangelism around here is 00:17:46.02\00:17:49.80 the Evangelism that they secured 00:17:50.75\00:17:52.80 towards people at the lower socioeconomic 00:17:53.24\00:17:59.66 level and one of the main needs is are 00:18:00.53\00:18:05.17 the basic, basic needs of life and that's 00:18:05.20\00:18:07.95 where agriculture also comes 00:18:07.99\00:18:10.13 in and plays, plays the role. 00:18:10.36\00:18:12.32 My name is Jean- Luc Waber. I come 00:18:12.81\00:18:16.18 from Switzerland, I was born in Africa 00:18:16.27\00:18:20.45 and come around and yeah I got the 00:18:20.51\00:18:24.25 virus for Africa, so I came back eight 00:18:24.30\00:18:27.63 years ago. First, I came here to be a 00:18:27.74\00:18:31.84 farm manager of this big farm and then 00:18:31.94\00:18:35.27 we had the opportunity to start this 00:18:35.30\00:18:37.51 training program and that's what we 00:18:37.54\00:18:39.59 really think is important is to train the young 00:18:39.66\00:18:42.29 people. So, they learned small scale 00:18:42.36\00:18:50.65 agriculture by hand and then working with 00:18:50.76\00:18:54.99 animals. In the second year, they have 00:18:55.11\00:18:57.92 tailoring class especially the girls and 00:18:58.02\00:19:01.33 we wanted to, for the boys to have the 00:19:01.36\00:19:05.44 carpentry class and building experience, 00:19:05.54\00:19:08.37 but the idea is that they learn by doing, 00:19:09.08\00:19:11.21 by working in the fields and 00:19:11.24\00:19:13.10 getting experience and not 00:19:13.48\00:19:15.22 just theoretical knowledge. 00:19:15.26\00:19:17.52 We do a week study program. 00:19:18.87\00:19:20.44 In the morning, we do the classes and 00:19:20.56\00:19:22.31 afternoon we do some other work around 00:19:22.38\00:19:25.19 here. You know how to do the cleaning, 00:19:25.37\00:19:27.28 maybe get firewood, maybe getting to the 00:19:27.41\00:19:29.06 gardening, different kind of activities and 00:19:29.24\00:19:31.89 then it was the end of the session we 00:19:31.94\00:19:34.07 normally go out of way two to three weeks 00:19:34.20\00:19:35.94 of Evangelistic meeting. Now, we give them 00:19:35.97\00:19:39.10 the opportunity to put into practice 00:19:39.15\00:19:41.60 those things that we have 00:19:41.69\00:19:42.66 been learning in a class. 00:19:42.67\00:19:43.77 The primary school was launched when 00:19:51.44\00:19:54.51 we decided to start the 00:19:54.64\00:19:56.40 program for our workers children. 00:19:57.00\00:20:00.04 Some of the challenges of getting the 00:20:03.18\00:20:04.51 school going was the registration. 00:20:04.61\00:20:06.84 We, it took us like three years to become 00:20:10.01\00:20:12.24 registered and so for the longest time 00:20:12.31\00:20:14.44 we didn't have that many students 00:20:15.13\00:20:16.74 because people were afraid that 00:20:17.10\00:20:19.54 maybe we will be close down, 00:20:19.66\00:20:20.74 but at the end of 2007, we got registered 00:20:21.76\00:20:28.03 and after that its just exploded. And we are 00:20:28.47\00:20:30.88 not even taking a thought of the 00:20:30.98\00:20:33.82 people that would actually like to come. 00:20:33.86\00:20:35.33 So there is a big potential. 00:20:35.66\00:20:37.01 Just starting next month, we planned 00:20:37.47\00:20:39.17 to begin construction on new classrooms 00:20:39.24\00:20:44.03 for the primary school. The idea is to use the 00:20:44.13\00:20:46.91 One Day Church structure and put up about 00:20:47.01\00:20:50.78 three new classrooms and a teacher's office. 00:20:51.13\00:20:56.29 Kibidula Farms has a very strong aviation 00:20:59.62\00:21:02.52 program, where the Bible workers are 00:21:02.71\00:21:07.02 supported through the aviation program 00:21:07.11\00:21:09.94 where they go out and they will bring 00:21:09.99\00:21:11.15 supplies and own ministry to the Bible 00:21:11.23\00:21:12.99 workers and that aviation program 00:21:13.20\00:21:15.43 got its initial jump start through ASI. 00:21:15.77\00:21:19.36 What we have been doing in the last 00:21:19.70\00:21:21.70 two years is supporting lay missionaries. 00:21:22.37\00:21:25.29 The hard of what this thing should be 00:21:26.48\00:21:27.70 doing is medical, but we don't have a 00:21:27.84\00:21:30.40 doctor right now, so we have been 00:21:30.53\00:21:32.01 taking the missionary support. 00:21:32.04\00:21:35.11 We have 32 lay Bible workers. 00:21:35.76\00:21:38.38 We have runways accessing above half 00:21:38.97\00:21:43.27 of them and others are not in this areas 00:21:43.30\00:21:46.22 are too far away, completely out of range, 00:21:46.25\00:21:48.79 so we haven't been able to reach them at all. 00:21:49.43\00:21:51.21 It is a big interest of ours. 00:21:51.93\00:21:54.00 A major focus that we spread the Gospel 00:21:54.62\00:21:58.20 in areas that no one else is reaching 00:21:58.23\00:22:01.77 so far and these are tend to be the most 00:22:01.80\00:22:04.95 remote areas. That hardest to get to places. 00:22:05.03\00:22:07.38 If there is a big vast area with no 00:22:08.10\00:22:10.30 Adventists, it really takes a long time for 00:22:10.39\00:22:12.94 that area to get covered and so we are 00:22:13.00\00:22:15.45 trying to start in the middle of those 00:22:15.53\00:22:16.75 areas and branch out from there. 00:22:16.80\00:22:18.79 [Foreign Lanaguage] 00:22:24.02\00:22:37.17 Well, Swahili is a major language in this 00:22:39.86\00:22:41.93 world. There is not a lot of available 00:22:41.96\00:22:45.80 resources in Swahili. You don't get 00:22:45.95\00:22:48.94 spirit prophecy books are very many of 00:22:49.36\00:22:52.36 them that have been translated into Swahili. 00:22:52.39\00:22:54.79 You know in our school of agriculture 00:22:55.23\00:22:56.54 we teach basics in agriculture, 00:22:56.57\00:22:58.50 but if someone wants to advance, 00:22:58.55\00:23:00.10 usually you find books in the area in the 00:23:00.79\00:23:03.66 line that you want to go into and so 00:23:03.70\00:23:07.03 without being able to use English you are 00:23:07.26\00:23:09.25 very limited in how you can study, 00:23:09.41\00:23:11.15 how you can go on or communicate 00:23:11.33\00:23:13.30 with anyone from the outside. 00:23:13.33\00:23:14.66 We felt the need for a long time 00:23:15.79\00:23:17.40 to so publish the books in Swahili. 00:23:18.57\00:23:20.63 The publishing work of Kibidula has grown 00:23:21.36\00:23:23.14 over the last, I would say seven or 00:23:23.17\00:23:25.89 eight years as far as I remember. 00:23:26.01\00:23:28.17 They have now reached a level where 00:23:29.23\00:23:30.48 we operate 22 book stores all over 00:23:30.62\00:23:32.79 the Tanzania. We are also creating new books. 00:23:32.82\00:23:35.82 Yeah, that's an important part now that 00:23:36.57\00:23:38.23 we are translating books either from 00:23:38.54\00:23:40.37 English or from German we have 00:23:40.66\00:23:41.98 been doing that into Swahili. 00:23:42.07\00:23:43.84 I see myself as we are calling 00:23:46.53\00:23:48.27 ourselves a supporting ministry. 00:23:48.30\00:23:49.87 I don't see myself so much being upfront 00:23:50.49\00:23:53.05 and doing the Evangelism effort for 00:23:53.22\00:23:54.99 example myself preaching myself, but I 00:23:55.10\00:23:57.94 would rather try to empower the local 00:23:57.97\00:24:00.03 people give them the tools in the hands 00:24:00.09\00:24:02.02 that they need to do the work. We have 00:24:02.09\00:24:04.78 just received now two containers from 00:24:04.91\00:24:06.79 Livebearers to extract in Swahili language. 00:24:06.86\00:24:09.62 So, we encourage church members and our 00:24:10.20\00:24:12.36 own lay missionaries to go out 00:24:12.45\00:24:13.84 and do Bible studies with the people 00:24:13.97\00:24:15.90 in their local language. 00:24:16.01\00:24:17.32 Every program has an Evangelistic aspect; 00:24:18.87\00:24:21.08 our main focus is on true education 00:24:21.23\00:24:24.98 which is basically the work of redemption. 00:24:25.66\00:24:30.63 Our goal is not mainly just to give them 00:24:31.96\00:24:34.96 some theoretical knowledge or just few 00:24:35.05\00:24:39.94 techniques to improve their lives, 00:24:39.97\00:24:42.22 but our main goal is to build character. 00:24:42.79\00:24:45.25 And we see with the young people if 00:24:46.68\00:24:49.12 they learn to grow their character to be 00:24:49.22\00:24:52.32 faithful, to be trustworthy, to be religion 00:24:52.41\00:24:56.45 tends to take upon responsibility for their 00:24:56.57\00:24:59.50 lives. If they grasp this and learn this they 00:24:59.58\00:25:04.21 have learned the most important thing 00:25:04.28\00:25:06.11 and then naturally to know Jesus. 00:25:06.35\00:25:08.36 In the morning all three groups meet 00:25:16.12\00:25:19.01 in the second farm unit, which is in the 00:25:19.30\00:25:21.80 middle and they have worshiped together. 00:25:21.94\00:25:24.38 They sing nice songs. It is nice to hear 00:25:24.98\00:25:28.12 them the quire when they sing in 00:25:28.19\00:25:31.45 church or when we are at this place. 00:25:31.53\00:25:33.90 There are several projects that ASI 00:25:43.75\00:25:45.79 funds have contributed to. 00:25:45.87\00:25:47.99 There is the first thing that comes to 00:25:48.90\00:25:52.00 my mind is the roof over Africa program 00:25:52.07\00:25:57.06 that we run in the past, where Kibidula was 00:25:57.45\00:26:01.02 involved being helping the Adventist churches 00:26:01.07\00:26:05.64 to be roofed in the territory of Tanzania. 00:26:05.68\00:26:08.61 A part of these school buildings and 00:26:09.75\00:26:12.57 also of the agricultural farm units 00:26:12.71\00:26:15.68 out there they were sponsored by ASI. 00:26:16.63\00:26:19.49 Then another program is the lay missionary 00:26:19.65\00:26:23.85 school which has profited also from 00:26:23.95\00:26:28.22 contributions toward the agricultural school. 00:26:28.34\00:26:31.96 Another part is a vehicle for the lay 00:26:32.70\00:26:36.03 missionary school that has 00:26:36.18\00:26:37.99 been funded partially by ASI. 00:26:38.02\00:26:41.62 The main sponsor for the agricultural 00:26:43.02\00:26:45.28 school was with Switzerland, but major 00:26:45.41\00:26:48.37 big part was also ASI. So, we are glad 00:26:49.12\00:26:52.74 that these two organizations enabled 00:26:52.82\00:26:56.22 us to do this, this program here. 00:26:56.26\00:26:58.78 Many ASI members have never have 00:27:00.45\00:27:01.78 the opportunity to visit Africa, 00:27:01.81\00:27:03.41 but their presence is felt here through 00:27:03.75\00:27:05.64 prayer and sacrificial giving. At each 00:27:05.85\00:27:08.27 ASI convention a special projects offering 00:27:08.30\00:27:10.68 is gathered to support missions like 00:27:10.71\00:27:12.54 Riverside Farm Institute and Kibidula Farm. 00:27:12.72\00:27:15.00 We love to have you join us at the next ASI 00:27:15.49\00:27:17.51 Convention.
