ASI is a Ministry that's networking all these 00:00:01.98\00:00:02.95 different ministries together with the church 00:00:02.96\00:00:05.47 and lay people. Being involved with ASI, 00:00:05.50\00:00:06.67 meeting other people. ASI convention is 00:00:06.70\00:00:08.55 an excellent opportunity, just a great opportunity. 00:00:08.58\00:00:11.64 In ASI, there is a particular fellow. 00:00:11.67\00:00:14.36 ASI is really the stamp, it's the glue that holds 00:00:14.39\00:00:16.83 all the ministries together. 00:00:16.86\00:00:18.30 Welcome to ASI video Magazine. 00:00:28.80\00:00:31.20 When I attempt the ASI convention each year, 00:00:31.23\00:00:33.73 I am amazed to see the wide variety of ASI 00:00:33.76\00:00:36.87 member ministries, businesses and 00:00:36.90\00:00:39.08 professionals that are all involved in 00:00:39.11\00:00:41.61 sharing Christ in the market place. 00:00:41.64\00:00:43.83 No matter what they do, ASI members are committed 00:00:44.32\00:00:47.43 to active outrage to sharing God's love 00:00:47.46\00:00:50.76 and the good news of his soon return. 00:00:50.79\00:00:53.63 Frontline builders is an ASI member organization 00:00:54.27\00:00:57.16 that constructs churches all around the world. 00:00:57.63\00:01:00.69 They work very closely with the Seventh-Day 00:01:01.09\00:01:02.96 Adventist church to provide church buildings 00:01:02.99\00:01:05.29 for missionaries in the field. 00:01:05.60\00:01:07.09 There are many areas in the world for the local 00:01:07.84\00:01:10.14 congregation could never afford to build the church. 00:01:10.17\00:01:13.31 Let's find out how God has used frontline builders 00:01:13.98\00:01:17.41 to provide for the needs of His people. 00:01:17.44\00:01:20.34 We have winter condition here. 00:01:52.68\00:01:54.29 How are you, guys? Yeah! It's chilly. 00:02:12.42\00:02:14.66 Come on, go inside. 00:02:15.60\00:02:16.71 It comes the toilet. 00:02:22.81\00:02:24.16 The crack cementing block so 00:02:25.47\00:02:27.17 the experts work on the church. 00:02:28.69\00:02:30.69 Well, when we first started our Ministry went up to 00:02:35.18\00:02:38.76 South Sudan and they were many, 00:02:39.25\00:02:41.87 many congregations meeting up there. 00:02:41.90\00:02:43.98 Church congregations meeting without any 00:02:44.01\00:02:45.82 buildings, you know, under mango tree 00:02:45.85\00:02:47.79 or in little grass shelter or whatever. 00:02:47.82\00:02:49.89 So, we wanted to help them build permanent 00:02:49.92\00:02:53.76 structures that they could, you know, 00:02:53.79\00:02:55.66 meet in our Sabbath, so no matter 00:02:55.69\00:02:57.47 who was reining, you know or you know, 00:02:57.50\00:03:00.01 whatever is going on they can still meet and so 00:03:00.04\00:03:02.21 we went up there and, and Sudan is 00:03:03.47\00:03:07.60 totally undeveloped. We couldn't buy any 00:03:07.63\00:03:09.10 materials there and you know you could get, 00:03:09.13\00:03:11.65 you know, stone for the foundation and sand 00:03:11.68\00:03:14.15 for the cement up there, but other than that 00:03:14.18\00:03:16.51 we have to get everything from Uganda. 00:03:16.54\00:03:19.27 In the all the cement, roofing sheets, 00:03:19.30\00:03:21.22 nails, anything you had to buy you had to bring 00:03:21.25\00:03:24.13 in from Uganda, which was between 00:03:24.16\00:03:26.02 24-30 hour truck trips, on most horrible roads 00:03:26.05\00:03:32.25 you can imagine. 00:03:32.28\00:03:33.25 That's how we managed to pass through about 00:03:36.15\00:03:38.53 5 o'clock then we said no, we have to reach 00:03:38.56\00:03:40.35 by now even you reach 1 or 2 in the morning. 00:03:40.38\00:03:42.80 So, then we passed, we passed miles 13, 00:03:42.83\00:03:45.71 where there is a fest ridge we managed, 00:03:45.74\00:03:47.59 mile 14 we managed, 15 but now we are 00:03:47.96\00:03:50.53 coming to mile 16, we found vehicles blocked 00:03:50.56\00:03:53.85 about 200 meters coming this way, towards Yei. 00:03:53.88\00:03:57.21 They said, no you can't pass tonight because 00:03:57.24\00:03:59.68 the place is severe, so we have to wait 00:03:59.71\00:04:02.21 until morning when the vehicles will start 00:04:02.24\00:04:04.31 passing again and start moving. 00:04:04.34\00:04:05.79 So, we slept here. Now, we are just waiting 00:04:06.06\00:04:07.84 to see our fate when we reach mile 16 00:04:07.87\00:04:09.66 because it is a severe place. 00:04:09.69\00:04:11.29 I've been working here for since yesterday, 00:04:19.53\00:04:21.90 you can see it's very dangerous. 00:04:25.21\00:04:26.50 Yeah! We started to go 16 mile. 00:04:48.38\00:04:50.04 We found out something blocking our roads, 00:04:50.46\00:04:52.50 so pushing ourselves and now it started to get. 00:04:52.53\00:04:55.17 So, we trying to push with the truck, 00:04:55.20\00:04:57.54 so that we clear the road we can go all through. 00:04:57.57\00:04:59.90 Our work started because we had a burden to 00:05:35.87\00:05:38.64 help build infrastructure in South Sudan, 00:05:38.67\00:05:41.00 a country that had been a kind of neglected 00:05:41.03\00:05:44.72 as far as our work is, our work about church 00:05:44.75\00:05:47.96 is concerned, they hadn't been much building 00:05:47.99\00:05:49.60 of infrastructure of church, 00:05:49.63\00:05:50.87 there are schools up there and we heard about 00:05:50.90\00:05:53.06 the need and so we would provide funding, 00:05:53.09\00:05:54.82 so that we can go up there and start building 00:05:54.85\00:05:56.38 some churches and schools and help the bore machines 00:05:56.41\00:05:58.64 pioneers with the work that they were doing up 00:05:58.67\00:06:00.36 there in Sudan, and we have also been 00:06:00.39\00:06:03.47 working in Mongolia. Number of years ago, 00:06:03.50\00:06:06.91 we went over there and we built one of the 00:06:06.94\00:06:08.80 first Adventist church is in Mongolia 00:06:08.83\00:06:11.00 and there it's a different challenge because 00:06:11.18\00:06:13.02 in Sudan it's really hot. So we tried to get as 00:06:13.05\00:06:15.38 much ventilation through the building as we can. 00:06:15.41\00:06:17.93 Now in Mongolia you know the average 00:06:18.04\00:06:21.13 temperature is below zero, you know, very cool, 00:06:21.16\00:06:24.10 in the summer it's warm, but in the winter 00:06:24.13\00:06:26.17 it's very cool. So, we had to learn you know 00:06:26.20\00:06:28.13 go there and figure out what they, 00:06:28.16\00:06:29.63 you know, what building materials they use 00:06:29.66\00:06:31.41 and how they insulate and how they heat it. 00:06:31.44\00:06:33.78 Before we start form is our insulation, 00:06:35.07\00:06:37.02 is gonna put the bricks of the outside 00:06:38.64\00:06:40.60 and so we go on a church there out of logs, 00:06:42.63\00:06:46.46 and you know we have insulated with wood, 00:06:46.49\00:06:48.72 coal, wood and coal burning stoves in there. 00:06:48.75\00:06:51.48 We invested in a couple of these hand drills, 00:06:55.41\00:06:57.53 they are kind of expensive, 00:06:57.70\00:06:58.87 they are almost 50 cents a piece, 00:06:58.90\00:07:00.47 so we are trying to be careful with them. 00:07:00.78\00:07:02.51 Yeah. I like that new technology. 00:07:03.92\00:07:09.98 Yeah, everything by hand you know there are no 00:07:14.04\00:07:16.16 electric tools or modern, you know, cement mixers 00:07:18.23\00:07:20.83 or anything everything you know hammer 00:07:20.86\00:07:22.13 and shovel and stick. 00:07:22.16\00:07:24.20 Our mission is a big emphasis about work 00:07:25.78\00:07:27.93 because their ideas are really brilliant, 00:07:27.96\00:07:30.10 they take local people and train them, 00:07:30.13\00:07:32.12 people who have had experience in Jesus Christ 00:07:32.15\00:07:33.92 and then convert them, they train them, 00:07:33.95\00:07:35.20 they send them into this villages, 00:07:35.23\00:07:36.54 remote areas and all times these areas 00:07:36.57\00:07:38.59 that are difficult to reach and they will go 00:07:38.62\00:07:40.52 in there and they will work with the local people 00:07:40.55\00:07:42.67 in that area and witness for Christ there and start 00:07:42.70\00:07:46.26 a company there are a church there. 00:07:46.29\00:07:48.98 And so all throughout South Sudan even though 00:07:49.11\00:07:50.94 you had 25 years of civil war and basically 00:07:50.97\00:07:53.91 no outside influence you had these global 00:07:54.28\00:07:56.10 mission pioneers working in these areas 00:07:56.13\00:07:58.19 and just doing a tremendous work 00:07:58.22\00:07:59.61 and so we, we believe in that work 00:08:00.08\00:08:01.75 and we want to support that work 00:08:01.78\00:08:03.32 and so our way of supporting is to go 00:08:03.52\00:08:05.07 and help them build churches, help them 00:08:05.10\00:08:06.63 built schools provide, help provide them 00:08:06.66\00:08:08.57 with training opportunities with bicycles, literature, 00:08:08.60\00:08:11.20 whatever they need to kind to be more effective 00:08:11.23\00:08:13.50 in the work that they do. 00:08:13.53\00:08:14.83 We grew up being involved in ASI, 00:08:15.99\00:08:18.34 our parents were members and I grew up as children 00:08:18.70\00:08:21.90 at missionaries who came back every 00:08:21.93\00:08:24.60 other year or so at 10 ASI convention 00:08:24.63\00:08:26.93 and kind of make the rounds and get, you know, 00:08:26.96\00:08:29.38 meet up with old friends and, 00:08:29.65\00:08:31.78 and talk to people about ministries. 00:08:32.12\00:08:34.76 So, we grew up involved in that and involved 00:08:34.79\00:08:36.18 in the youth meetings and then as we started 00:08:36.21\00:08:38.46 our Ministry it was really people in ASI, 00:08:38.49\00:08:40.85 who thought you know these young guys. 00:08:41.43\00:08:45.07 You know, we are teenagers at that time, 00:08:45.10\00:08:46.44 we were 18-19 years old and they thought hey, 00:08:46.47\00:08:48.83 you know sounds pretty crazy you know that 00:08:48.86\00:08:51.11 you know they have been trying to built 00:08:51.14\00:08:52.24 churches up in Sudan for several years 00:08:52.27\00:08:54.01 and heaven happen, you know, 00:08:54.04\00:08:55.64 it's pretty crazy that what these guys 00:08:55.67\00:08:57.26 go up there and try, but they were willing to 00:08:57.29\00:08:59.14 take that risk on us and just 100 percent 00:08:59.17\00:09:01.93 behind us. You know encouragement and 00:09:01.96\00:09:04.93 in financially to fund the work that 00:09:05.20\00:09:06.62 we were doing and gave us that opportunity and, 00:09:06.65\00:09:09.26 yeah our Ministry won't be happening today 00:09:09.95\00:09:12.73 like it wasn't for ASI in sub quarter they have shown. 00:09:12.76\00:09:16.09 Is this your hammer? Yeah. Whose hammer is this? 00:09:16.12\00:09:18.35 Ours for work, whose work, tell us work. Yeah, 00:09:18.38\00:09:24.73 It's a Lord's work, yeah. Every time at ASI 00:09:27.89\00:09:31.44 somebody comes up to me and says hey 00:09:31.91\00:09:33.55 there is a real need in this part of the world 00:09:33.95\00:09:35.72 that you need to do. This part of building 00:09:35.75\00:09:36.98 collides you set up and have a building 00:09:37.01\00:09:38.25 project working enough. Let's get some ideas, 00:09:38.28\00:09:40.46 let's get plan to get and how we can go 00:09:40.49\00:09:42.38 and get this done, and so it's really a 00:09:42.41\00:09:44.06 networking place as well, where we bring 00:09:44.09\00:09:46.02 together ideas and get to know the people 00:09:46.05\00:09:48.78 that are out there with experience, you know, 00:09:48.81\00:09:50.67 making these things happen. 00:09:50.70\00:09:52.07 Now we have hired the local people to help, 00:09:54.73\00:09:57.11 you know, dig the foundations and to mix 00:09:57.14\00:09:58.90 the cement by hand and they will make the brick 00:09:58.93\00:10:02.26 and we got the whole community there helping 00:10:02.95\00:10:06.44 with the project. You know, axe was the only piece of 00:10:06.47\00:10:09.30 development in the village in the 00:10:09.33\00:10:10.56 community and so everybody was their 00:10:10.59\00:10:12.29 building this building and they are all excited 00:10:12.32\00:10:14.58 about it and you know everybody comes to 00:10:14.61\00:10:16.56 you know celebration when its done and now 00:10:16.59\00:10:19.52 all these people who haven't even really 00:10:19.55\00:10:21.60 accepted the gospel aren't you know 00:10:21.63\00:10:23.42 members of the church or anything. You know 00:10:23.45\00:10:26.32 they feel like this is their building because 00:10:26.35\00:10:29.03 they have been part of it the whole of time you 00:10:29.06\00:10:30.57 know and so everybody comes and and you know, 00:10:30.60\00:10:34.34 you know, every Sabbath you know the global 00:10:34.37\00:10:36.70 mission pioneer there. He is, you know, 00:10:36.73\00:10:39.14 he has given the message and these 00:10:39.17\00:10:40.32 people feel like that's their ability they want 00:10:40.35\00:10:42.19 to be there. And so, just the building itself is an 00:10:42.22\00:10:44.85 evangelism tool because the whole 00:10:44.88\00:10:46.80 community now is in the church, now they 00:10:46.83\00:10:48.55 are learning about, you know, the gospel and 00:10:48.58\00:10:50.87 pretty soon you know they are getting 00:10:50.90\00:10:52.31 baptized being members. 00:10:52.34\00:10:53.59 Alright, our hope is to continue working in 00:11:26.73\00:11:28.84 these areas of Africa especially in other parts 00:11:28.87\00:11:33.09 of the world that really, you know, you know lot 00:11:33.12\00:11:37.60 of Africans, Southern Africa you had 00:11:37.63\00:11:39.37 missionaries in countries for over a 00:11:39.40\00:11:41.74 hundred years you know working their and 00:11:41.77\00:11:43.73 there is a huge Adventist present, but 00:11:43.76\00:11:45.32 then you go on to Central Africa and 00:11:45.35\00:11:46.60 North Africa and you have these regions that, 00:11:46.63\00:11:48.47 our work really hasn't been established there. 00:11:48.50\00:11:50.51 And they have got some reason usually, usually 00:11:50.54\00:11:52.29 it's because maybe because of war or you 00:11:52.32\00:11:56.07 know this country face huge poverty and it's 00:11:56.10\00:11:58.75 just difficult to work there and so our goal 00:11:58.78\00:12:01.67 for our future is to continue targeting these 00:12:01.70\00:12:03.50 areas, to continue supporting the work of 00:12:03.53\00:12:05.73 Global mission pioneers, and over the 00:12:05.76\00:12:07.77 next few years we would like to establish a 00:12:07.80\00:12:09.38 base somewhere in Africa, where we can 00:12:09.41\00:12:11.58 workout of and send teams up into 00:12:11.61\00:12:14.21 Sudan and to Central Africa Republic into 00:12:14.24\00:12:17.19 these areas that needs the infrastructure and 00:12:17.22\00:12:20.15 the work that we been doing and so long term 00:12:20.18\00:12:22.84 we hope to have a more systematic, you know, 00:12:22.87\00:12:27.49 base the work out of and more groups of 00:12:27.52\00:12:29.73 young people working with us to do this 00:12:29.76\00:12:31.29 project. That's where our hearts are and we 00:12:31.32\00:12:37.23 plan to be involve, you know in Africa and 00:12:37.26\00:12:40.77 other places in the world just you know 00:12:40.80\00:12:43.82 developing helping the church, wherever we 00:12:43.85\00:12:45.65 can. Yeah, severe. Yes, yes, yes 00:12:45.68\00:13:11.66 There are people with serious needs all over 00:13:25.97\00:13:28.38 the world including many of our brothers 00:13:28.41\00:13:30.57 and sisters in Christ. I am so thankful for 00:13:30.60\00:13:33.78 frontline builders and other ASI members that 00:13:33.81\00:13:36.93 are working to meet the needs of the family of God 00:13:36.96\00:13:40.32 For more information about frontline builders call 00:13:41.72\00:13:44.78 423-236-5600 or visit www.frontlinebuilders.org 00:13:44.81\00:13:54.89 At every ASI convention, we have the 00:13:58.54\00:14:01.40 special projects offering through which ASI 00:14:01.43\00:14:04.65 supports around 40 projects from Seventh- 00:14:04.68\00:14:07.20 Day Adventist Ministries around the 00:14:07.23\00:14:08.36 world. These projects very widely from 00:14:08.39\00:14:11.75 construction to evangelism and 00:14:11.78\00:14:13.86 humanitarian aid and more, but they are all 00:14:13.89\00:14:16.72 focused on sharing Jesus Christ around the 00:14:16.75\00:14:19.53 world. We are honored at ASI to support these 00:14:19.56\00:14:23.62 projects and to help tell the world that Jesus is 00:14:23.65\00:14:27.28 coming again. 00:14:27.31\00:14:28.78 Abuse is not something we enjoy talking a lot 00:14:31.95\00:14:34.73 about, but the simple fact is that it happens 00:14:34.76\00:14:37.93 even in Christian homes. Women's healing and 00:14:37.96\00:14:41.42 empowerment network is an ASI member 00:14:41.45\00:14:44.51 organization that provides a shelter for 00:14:44.54\00:14:47.43 abused women. They are also involved in 00:14:47.46\00:14:50.16 abused prevention programs, but such than 00:14:50.19\00:14:53.51 apart is their emphasis on Christ centered 00:14:53.54\00:14:56.51 healing bringing hurting people into the arms 00:14:56.54\00:15:00.08 of Jesus. 00:15:00.11\00:15:01.08 There is so much of this in our society and as 00:15:04.23\00:15:08.28 people become acquainted with the 00:15:08.31\00:15:09.49 church family and come into the church family 00:15:09.52\00:15:11.73 they bring these things right into the church as well. 00:15:11.76\00:15:14.73 I mean that's why you drive down the road and 00:15:14.76\00:15:16.39 people get mad and foot each other off and 00:15:16.42\00:15:18.50 screaming at each other at the grocery store. 00:15:18.53\00:15:20.19 Just because they become acquainted with 00:15:20.22\00:15:21.86 Christ does it mean that they don't have a history. 00:15:21.89\00:15:25.02 If people act occasionally like that in 00:15:25.05\00:15:28.54 the stores or whatever you know they are 00:15:28.57\00:15:29.68 doing at home. 00:15:29.71\00:15:30.68 What I am finding out is that domestic 00:15:30.69\00:15:34.35 violence and abuse especially sexual abuse, incest 00:15:34.38\00:15:39.18 Oh! I think abuse for the most part has been 00:15:39.21\00:15:41.60 swept kind of relevant. 00:15:41.63\00:15:42.60 It's very prevalent in Christian circles. 00:15:42.61\00:15:45.60 And really just not help with for years and I 00:15:45.63\00:15:50.59 think some of the worst abuse cases happen 00:15:50.62\00:15:53.47 most often in the least respected families. 00:15:53.50\00:15:56.89 This lifestyle looking on the outside like they 00:15:56.92\00:16:00.39 guided together, they got the big house, they 00:16:00.42\00:16:02.29 have got the nice cars, they are dressing good 00:16:02.32\00:16:03.92 clothes and they go home and they are been 00:16:03.95\00:16:07.58 beaten by their husbands. 00:16:07.61\00:16:09.59 I try to educate to prevent, but even while 00:16:09.62\00:16:12.76 we are prevent trying to prevent it, there are 00:16:12.79\00:16:15.12 people that need help. And so their needs also 00:16:15.15\00:16:18.19 be intervention programs, where people 00:16:18.22\00:16:19.92 can go, counselors that understand the 00:16:19.95\00:16:23.10 dynamics of the domestic violence. We 00:16:23.13\00:16:25.58 need pastors, who, who also understand the 00:16:25.61\00:16:29.16 cycle of violence so that they don't become a 00:16:29.19\00:16:31.33 part of perpetuating it innocently. 00:16:31.36\00:16:34.02 We need to recognize if person would not have 00:16:34.05\00:16:36.20 come, the person would not have been so forth 00:16:36.23\00:16:38.48 right. The person would not have put their own 00:16:38.51\00:16:41.46 lives and repetition on the line had it not been 00:16:41.49\00:16:44.64 in their mind very real. 00:16:44.67\00:16:46.35 Okay, next scenario. My husband was 00:16:46.38\00:16:50.33 abusing me, I told, I told my pastor and he 00:16:50.36\00:16:54.36 said, I should not air my dirty linen. 00:16:54.39\00:16:57.12 Sometimes when you know when a couple 00:16:57.94\00:17:00.50 comes and they are in an abusive situation and 00:17:00.53\00:17:03.06 they told their pastor. If a pastor does not 00:17:03.09\00:17:05.84 understand the messages that he should 00:17:05.87\00:17:07.56 give the perpetuate, as well as the victim. You 00:17:07.59\00:17:10.70 know, he could do more harm then good. 00:17:10.73\00:17:13.18 The next part goes on, I got a divorce from him. 00:17:13.21\00:17:17.20 The challenge here is the church has asked 00:17:17.23\00:17:20.03 me to leave the congregation. Is this 00:17:20.06\00:17:22.87 fair that I should leave, while my husband 00:17:22.90\00:17:25.82 continues to be part of the congregation. 00:17:25.85\00:17:27.75 I would encourage, encourage her to come 00:17:27.78\00:17:31.84 and join my chair. 00:17:31.87\00:17:33.00 Yeah, that would be better, get better. 00:17:33.03\00:17:39.37 Generally speaking that the victim is the one 00:17:39.40\00:17:43.38 that brings it forward. In cases like that 00:17:43.41\00:17:47.61 unfortunately what normally happens it's 00:17:47.64\00:17:51.55 either, either minimized or the victim is blamed. 00:17:51.58\00:17:57.70 This happened in my life, in my life and it 00:17:57.73\00:18:01.91 was a wonderful and I'm still at this other 00:18:01.94\00:18:04.80 congregation. I've grown so much there 00:18:04.83\00:18:06.89 and I've learned so much, so it's not fair, 00:18:06.92\00:18:11.14 it's not fair, however. Let's go ahead and 00:18:11.17\00:18:17.38 move on because we don't know what God's 00:18:17.41\00:18:20.13 plans are and so let's just go ahead and move 00:18:20.16\00:18:22.49 on and go to pastor Collins church. 00:18:22.52\00:18:26.42 It's her choice, her choice, that's the key. 00:18:26.45\00:18:32.83 That's why I left him because I don't want my 00:18:32.86\00:18:36.61 son to put somebody through the same thing 00:18:36.64\00:18:39.30 later on. I did not want my son to think it was 00:18:39.33\00:18:42.32 okay. And I didn't want to have a phone call 00:18:42.35\00:18:47.28 from his significant other telling me that he 00:18:47.31\00:18:51.07 is doing the same thing that his dad and his 00:18:51.10\00:18:53.11 grandfather and his great grandfather have 00:18:53.14\00:18:56.90 done before. I wanted the pattern to stop and 00:18:56.93\00:19:00.84 I'm glad that I stopped it before he was old 00:19:00.87\00:19:02.81 enough to really understand it. 00:19:02.84\00:19:04.44 Ten years ago, when I was the director at the 00:19:04.47\00:19:08.86 shelter in Niles, this lady came from another 00:19:08.89\00:19:13.89 state with three young girls, beautiful girls and 00:19:13.92\00:19:18.03 she was escaping out the domestic violent 00:19:18.06\00:19:19.71 situation and she stayed for a couple of months, 00:19:19.74\00:19:21.93 she decided that she was gonna leave her 00:19:21.96\00:19:23.66 abuse for good not go back. 00:19:23.69\00:19:25.63 A kind of check it out on my mom since my 00:19:25.66\00:19:27.70 dad wasn't there for me to scream at me, it's all 00:19:27.73\00:19:31.31 your fault, you know, but I would say 00:19:31.34\00:19:36.30 probably about three years after my parents 00:19:36.33\00:19:40.79 finalize the divorce I ended up being out on 00:19:40.82\00:19:45.56 my own, 16. Started working, was working 00:19:45.59\00:19:50.81 on getting back into school, it's a college 00:19:50.84\00:19:54.61 that is, I had got my GD because I never finished 00:19:54.64\00:19:58.83 high school because I was jumping all over 00:19:58.86\00:20:00.85 the place from house to house. 00:20:00.88\00:20:02.24 Well a couple of months ago I got a call 00:20:02.27\00:20:05.80 from this lady with, you know, who had these 00:20:05.83\00:20:08.46 three daughters. She said my oldest daughter 00:20:08.49\00:20:11.00 is an abusive relationship and I need 00:20:11.03\00:20:13.51 you to help her. 00:20:13.54\00:20:14.91 While I was working one day, this guy walks 00:20:14.94\00:20:18.78 into the mall and he is very good-looking guy 00:20:18.81\00:20:23.63 and we started talking a little bit, he pretended 00:20:23.66\00:20:27.85 like he was looking for shoes. And about a 00:20:27.88\00:20:30.43 week later he called me and we start dating. 00:20:30.46\00:20:33.67 Probably a few months later, I started finding 00:20:33.70\00:20:37.19 out more about him, found out that he had a 00:20:37.22\00:20:41.47 daughter that he didn't planned on telling me 00:20:41.50\00:20:45.26 anything about. He also lies me about his living 00:20:45.29\00:20:48.58 situation with his current girlfriend and 00:20:48.61\00:20:52.40 all these things should have been a warning, 00:20:52.43\00:20:55.11 but of course I wanted to believe him because 00:20:55.14\00:20:57.54 he seem like a good person, but something 00:20:57.57\00:21:00.43 in the back of my mind kept on telling me to 00:21:00.46\00:21:02.50 just leave it alone and just, I just didn't listen. 00:21:02.53\00:21:06.38 Her mom came to the shelter, helped her mom 00:21:06.41\00:21:09.81 to get out of the abusive relationship, but the 00:21:09.84\00:21:11.87 daughter, the oldest daughter went right 00:21:11.90\00:21:13.92 back into it so, but, I think it's exciting 00:21:13.95\00:21:17.79 because when the daughter realize that she 00:21:17.82\00:21:20.01 needed help, she called somebody. 00:21:20.04\00:21:22.38 He was very angry about me being 00:21:22.41\00:21:24.37 pregnant, told me that I needed to get an 00:21:24.40\00:21:26.46 abortion and I refused. He threw a big few 00:21:26.49\00:21:30.08 things out the house, should have left, but 00:21:30.11\00:21:33.49 thinking that was the father of my son I 00:21:33.52\00:21:37.24 should stay be a family, I was just falling into 00:21:37.27\00:21:40.26 the same pattern in that my mom fell into. Six 00:21:40.29\00:21:43.04 to seven months after my son was born, he 00:21:43.07\00:21:46.60 laid his hands on me one to many times and 00:21:46.63\00:21:49.39 just, I just that's when I called Mabel, I told my 00:21:49.42\00:21:52.82 mom that I want to get in touch with Mabel 00:21:52.85\00:21:54.58 and that's when I spoke to her. 00:21:54.61\00:21:56.01 And that's what we are here for, we are not 00:21:56.04\00:21:57.58 trying to disrupt relationships and we are 00:21:57.61\00:22:00.88 not trying to end relationships, but we 00:22:00.91\00:22:02.85 are trying to say when there is a 00:22:02.88\00:22:04.46 problem, here is the place you can go 00:22:04.49\00:22:06.85 because more than anyone else I believe 00:22:06.88\00:22:09.13 you know in this Ministry I definitely 00:22:09.16\00:22:12.33 want to see couples together. I don't, it's not 00:22:12.36\00:22:15.08 my desire that people separate. But, at the 00:22:15.11\00:22:17.98 same time if people are not safe then they need 00:22:18.01\00:22:20.75 to separate until it's safe for them to be together. 00:22:20.78\00:22:23.38 And even though it took my mom and my sisters 00:22:23.41\00:22:29.47 and a good family, a couple good family 00:22:29.50\00:22:33.11 friends to actually physically remove me 00:22:33.14\00:22:35.91 from the situation, I don't regret it. 00:22:35.94\00:22:40.39 So, I spoke to the young women, we got her out 00:22:40.42\00:22:44.78 of that situation. She is located near us in a 00:22:44.81\00:22:50.11 home and she is being helped and so after 10 00:22:50.14\00:22:53.92 years so what that we did in Niles, it still 00:22:53.95\00:22:57.41 continuing because this, this young lady now, 00:22:57.44\00:23:01.11 when she realize that she needed help, she 00:23:01.14\00:23:03.24 decided to come to our network. 00:23:03.27\00:23:05.14 We need to start at the younger ages and start 00:23:05.17\00:23:09.25 teaching children in Junior High and High 00:23:09.28\00:23:11.97 School not to get into relationships that 00:23:12.00\00:23:16.13 possibly be damaging teaching them the signs 00:23:16.16\00:23:18.98 to work for and also reminding them how 00:23:19.01\00:23:22.81 valuable they are to God. We can have that 00:23:22.84\00:23:25.95 in a public organization. 00:23:25.98\00:23:27.75 So that's why we, I feel that secular shout, well, 00:23:27.78\00:23:30.90 well, they are helpful, I don't want anyone to 00:23:30.93\00:23:32.85 get the idea that we don't need them, we 00:23:32.88\00:23:34.58 definitely do, but if a person is into healing 00:23:34.61\00:23:38.35 long-term healing, I think what we 00:23:38.38\00:23:42.46 offer is superior. 00:23:42.49\00:23:43.79 Mabel, in her organization 00:23:43.82\00:23:47.07 puts Jesus first. 00:23:47.10\00:23:49.43 The difference with what we are trying to do 00:23:49.46\00:23:52.37 is that is Christ-centered because true healing 00:23:52.40\00:23:56.42 comes from Christ. It comes through him. 00:23:56.45\00:23:58.38 And so the difference with our program is that 00:23:58.41\00:24:00.58 we are, we are not trying to, to fix 00:24:00.61\00:24:03.89 something short-term, we are looking 00:24:03.92\00:24:05.56 at the long-term. 00:24:05.59\00:24:06.64 I feel like I depended too much on my son's 00:24:06.67\00:24:11.46 father. I think the reason why I didn't 00:24:11.49\00:24:15.70 leave before is because I didn't feel like there 00:24:15.73\00:24:17.55 was any other choice financially with the way 00:24:17.58\00:24:20.33 that our economy is going right now and I 00:24:20.36\00:24:23.37 just didn't think that it will be possible as a 00:24:23.40\00:24:25.48 single mother, so surviving given my son 00:24:25.51\00:24:27.87 what he needed, but now I'm seeing that I 00:24:27.90\00:24:31.94 can give from better that what he was getting 00:24:31.97\00:24:34.07 when I was with him. I have a great job, a great 00:24:34.10\00:24:38.09 job and I'm staying with the most wonderful, 00:24:38.12\00:24:41.46 wonderful women in the world, she is an 00:24:41.49\00:24:45.19 angel. I don't know what I do without 00:24:45.22\00:24:48.66 everybody that I've, that God has really blessed 00:24:48.69\00:24:51.88 me, so be around. 00:24:51.91\00:24:54.11 And so what we are trying to do is help 00:24:54.14\00:24:57.12 these people find healing, so that the 00:24:57.15\00:24:59.11 behavior stops. And the empowerment part is 00:24:59.14\00:25:02.57 okay, now that I'm healed. What I'm gonna 00:25:02.60\00:25:05.63 do with what I have received. 00:25:05.66\00:25:07.36 We are not just about a shelter, we are about 00:25:07.39\00:25:10.85 healing, we are about empowering and 00:25:10.88\00:25:14.29 setting people free. 00:25:14.32\00:25:15.43 Well I think with ASI you know they found 00:25:15.46\00:25:19.61 the programs like this that probably would 00:25:19.64\00:25:21.87 normally get funded through the church, so 00:25:21.90\00:25:23.74 they have funded us when we were part of 00:25:23.77\00:25:25.92 this place. And we are a member of ASI and, 00:25:25.95\00:25:28.94 when I can, when I can't afford it, I go to the 00:25:28.97\00:25:31.40 national conventions, but you know for past 00:25:31.43\00:25:33.82 couple of years I couldn't afford, it's 00:25:33.85\00:25:35.21 frightening even though. It puts us in 00:25:35.24\00:25:37.58 contact with other entities and other 00:25:37.61\00:25:40.67 organizations other funded programs and 00:25:40.70\00:25:43.77 you know by ASI and it also individuals who 00:25:43.80\00:25:47.21 have the money, individuals have the 00:25:47.24\00:25:48.99 interest, they take an interest in it and we 00:25:49.02\00:25:51.01 have gotten a few donations from people 00:25:51.04\00:25:53.06 who have attended ASI. Also give us exposure 00:25:53.09\00:25:56.15 too about the Ministry does exist. And so we 00:25:56.18\00:25:59.57 have in Texas, we have a counseling center. In 00:25:59.60\00:26:03.07 Ohio, we have every year the group their 00:26:03.10\00:26:06.60 polish in ministries, they have a teen girls 00:26:06.63\00:26:08.87 conference. We have a home in New York and 00:26:08.90\00:26:13.43 also educational program and then as 00:26:13.46\00:26:17.01 well as New York and then in here in Spokane 00:26:17.04\00:26:21.90 we have the, you know, the network is based 00:26:21.93\00:26:24.70 here and then of course we have the 00:26:24.73\00:26:26.31 shelter in Niles. 00:26:26.34\00:26:27.46 I believe this is modern day slavery, I believe 00:26:27.49\00:26:30.40 that people are enslaved in their homes 00:26:30.43\00:26:32.82 to someone that suppose if we loves them and we 00:26:32.85\00:26:36.22 are going to help them be set free through the 00:26:36.25\00:26:38.81 power of Jesus and that's what our goals 00:26:38.84\00:26:41.18 are, I believe it will be huge network in the 00:26:41.21\00:26:43.27 future. There is things just like anything else 00:26:43.30\00:26:46.94 started now we have to, you know, iron out 00:26:46.97\00:26:48.68 some of our kingly stuff, but as more and 00:26:48.71\00:26:51.41 more people come on the board and we 00:26:51.44\00:26:54.23 become more and more known. I believe the 00:26:54.26\00:26:56.64 people will recognize our worth and our 00:26:56.67\00:26:58.80 success and be able to help us to 00:26:58.83\00:27:03.19 grow even bigger. 00:27:03.22\00:27:04.19 I'm continually inspired by the stories of lives 00:27:04.20\00:27:08.82 changed by ASI members like Women's 00:27:08.85\00:27:11.71 Healing and Empowerment Network. 00:27:11.74\00:27:13.26 Their 24-hour crisis hotline is 00:27:13.29\00:27:16.69 509-998-7956.
