ASI is a ministry that's networking all these 00:00:01.98\00:00:02.95 different ministries together with the 00:00:02.96\00:00:05.05 church and lay people. Being involved with 00:00:05.08\00:00:06.05 ASI, meeting other people. ASI convention is an 00:00:06.06\00:00:08.96 excellent opportunity, just a great opportunity. 00:00:08.99\00:00:11.74 In ASI, there is a particular fellow. 00:00:11.77\00:00:14.15 ASI is really the stamp, it's the glue that holds all 00:00:14.18\00:00:17.01 the ministries together. 00:00:17.04\00:00:18.12 Welcome to ASI Video Magazine, 00:00:28.09\00:00:30.01 I'm Dan Houghton. ASI members are people and 00:00:30.04\00:00:33.55 organizations committed to sharing Christ 00:00:33.58\00:00:36.26 in the market place. ASI members are people 00:00:36.29\00:00:39.05 known for their humble and loving service, 00:00:39.08\00:00:41.59 people who constantly look for ways to help others. 00:00:41.93\00:00:44.64 Today, we are going to meet two members of ASI. 00:00:45.47\00:00:47.63 That are involved in Christian service, both 00:00:47.66\00:00:50.03 at home and thousands of miles away. 00:00:50.06\00:00:53.13 Heritage Academy is an ASI member boarding 00:00:53.89\00:00:56.44 school in Monterey, Tennessee. The school has made 00:00:56.47\00:00:59.58 service a paramount part of its program. 00:00:59.61\00:01:02.64 Among their service activities Heritage 00:01:03.59\00:01:05.69 students work as call porters and participate 00:01:05.72\00:01:08.63 in the school's aviation ministry, an area of 00:01:08.66\00:01:11.79 particular emphasis is disaster relief and 00:01:11.82\00:01:15.14 Heritage students have been involved in a 00:01:15.17\00:01:16.96 variety of disaster relief projects across North America. 00:01:16.99\00:01:21.70 Alright, smile, pray, you bringing a hand and 00:01:24.65\00:01:27.59 pass those cards. God bless you, bye, bye. 00:01:27.62\00:01:31.11 This is funny he is sitting here for two hours, 00:01:33.65\00:01:35.85 he is driving with me from since, from Heritage. 00:01:35.88\00:01:38.43 This one is funny. He is canvassing with us today. 00:01:40.62\00:01:43.48 I work in a European Czech Republic as a 00:01:45.51\00:01:47.51 full-time call porter for ADRS and now five 00:01:47.54\00:01:51.19 years here in United States with students, 00:01:51.22\00:01:54.08 with those negative views. Let me show 00:01:54.11\00:01:56.84 you, this is Piece of the Storm, original version 00:01:56.87\00:02:00.00 to steps to Christ actually. We sold almost four thousand 00:02:00.03\00:02:05.36 pieces of the steps to Christ. The small version, 00:02:05.39\00:02:08.33 they're happiness digest. I can tell you, it was 00:02:09.05\00:02:12.26 such a book, the little book that I brought 17 00:02:12.29\00:02:16.25 years ago in my country and brought me to Christianity. 00:02:16.28\00:02:19.14 Then we've Desire of ages from Ellen G. White, 00:02:20.56\00:02:23.16 it's one of the best means I see for today's 00:02:24.07\00:02:26.61 Church, how to help us get out of our shell from 00:02:27.38\00:02:32.50 our Churches, you know, don't be hidden, 00:02:32.53\00:02:35.01 just a nice piece, the Church, but to really 00:02:35.04\00:02:38.90 work face-to-face. Okay good job Rachael. 00:02:38.93\00:02:43.88 Okay, keep going and you'll meet Derrick okay, 00:02:43.91\00:02:46.78 there's Derrick walking towards you. Do you 00:02:46.81\00:02:49.59 have those flyers? Alright Jibby, Jibby. 00:02:49.62\00:02:52.05 You know the kids, it's hard, 00:02:53.26\00:02:55.02 it's really front line ministry. 00:02:55.43\00:02:57.14 We work in every weather, everyday, 00:02:57.46\00:02:59.92 no matter the weather, no matter if it's dry or 00:03:00.25\00:03:03.65 hot or if it's raining or snowing or freezing. 00:03:03.68\00:03:08.10 The school is first and foremost focused on 00:03:09.05\00:03:12.30 preparing the students to go out and serve in 00:03:12.82\00:03:17.65 the mission field, wherever God calls them. 00:03:17.68\00:03:20.24 They see how what they do on a day 00:03:20.37\00:03:22.29 to day basis has lasting results. 00:03:22.32\00:03:25.12 It's really not a job, it is definitely a life. 00:03:25.15\00:03:29.54 When they have somebody at the door, 00:03:30.66\00:03:33.03 who is challenging their faith, you know, maybe 00:03:33.06\00:03:36.20 the person, who is an atheist or maybe they're 00:03:36.23\00:03:38.13 from a different religion. And they are questioning, 00:03:38.56\00:03:41.09 you know, what you as an Adventist believe. 00:03:41.73\00:03:44.19 That is so much different then a Bible class. 00:03:45.32\00:03:48.15 There are also students that come as a freshmen 00:03:48.63\00:03:51.16 to school and they don't want to be involved in 00:03:51.19\00:03:54.56 the canvassing work. They would rather cut 00:03:54.59\00:03:56.77 the woods or do something else. 00:03:56.80\00:03:58.57 But, when they're trying and they go with the 00:03:59.56\00:04:02.34 experienced ones, they see man it's something, 00:04:02.37\00:04:05.95 something really good you know. 00:04:05.98\00:04:09.11 It's doing good things for the people? 00:04:09.14\00:04:10.85 Nothing wrong is in appreciating the people. 00:04:10.88\00:04:13.04 And they started liking it. Oh! Well, what I like 00:04:15.29\00:04:17.83 mostly about this school is that, it has a very 00:04:17.86\00:04:20.59 spiritual environment. It's something very 00:04:20.62\00:04:23.75 helpful, if you wanna grow a strong 00:04:24.10\00:04:25.55 relationship with God to give you a lot of 00:04:25.58\00:04:26.93 opportunities, so you do, lot of call porting 00:04:26.96\00:04:29.47 and like definitely tried to give up Bible studies 00:04:29.50\00:04:31.56 and things like that. On Sabbaths, we can go out 00:04:31.59\00:04:33.45 to the nursing home, sing to the people their 00:04:33.48\00:04:36.17 and we do, we try to do a lot of ministries so, 00:04:36.58\00:04:38.51 we do on a disaster response with acts. 00:04:38.65\00:04:41.10 Right after the hurricane came through, 00:04:41.13\00:04:43.91 they were going door to door talking to people 00:04:44.73\00:04:49.23 at their homes and doing damage assessment for FEMA. 00:04:49.26\00:04:53.23 We, our first respond to any natural disaster, so 00:04:53.26\00:04:56.50 if there is any disaster. We just recently went 00:04:56.53\00:04:59.00 to Florida and Texas so, because of the 00:04:59.03\00:05:02.18 hurricanes and the topical storms. 00:05:02.21\00:05:03.62 And entering in data and these little cell phone 00:05:04.29\00:05:07.08 like devices that uploaded to the database. 00:05:07.11\00:05:10.59 Umm! Umm! That FEMA has in Washington, 00:05:10.62\00:05:13.06 other students got to work in one of the mobile kitchens. 00:05:13.09\00:05:17.29 Distribution line. Right and then, there was 00:05:17.32\00:05:20.62 a phone center there as well. That's true. That's true. 00:05:20.65\00:05:23.23 That the students were working at. 00:05:23.26\00:05:24.45 And we walked away from that saying, you know, 00:05:24.82\00:05:26.61 we need to be better trained and so all of our 00:05:26.64\00:05:29.19 students, by design are trained in first aid and 00:05:29.22\00:05:33.78 CPR through the American Red Cross 00:05:33.81\00:05:35.83 and all of them are trained through what's 00:05:36.57\00:05:39.05 called CERT one hundred, which is 00:05:39.08\00:05:41.08 Community Emergency Response Teams and 00:05:41.11\00:05:44.77 they all have a hard hat and a vest that's 00:05:44.99\00:05:47.84 recognized by any government or FEMA 00:05:47.87\00:05:50.57 organization anywhere in the country. 00:05:50.60\00:05:52.85 So, because we're a boarding school, these 00:05:53.41\00:05:55.34 kids go home and who knows what might 00:05:55.37\00:05:57.70 happen in their neighborhood. But they're trained and 00:05:57.73\00:06:00.78 by the training that they've had and the way 00:06:00.96\00:06:03.26 that they can help, they can hit the ground 00:06:03.29\00:06:05.94 running in any kind of disaster and be a leader. 00:06:05.97\00:06:09.11 We refocused the school on Ellen White's 00:06:09.14\00:06:14.60 principles that she spoke of in the book Education. 00:06:15.17\00:06:18.09 That it's an equal balance between academics, 00:06:18.49\00:06:21.00 spiritual and vocational. Our students spend their 00:06:21.45\00:06:25.00 school day, part of their day they're in class, part 00:06:25.03\00:06:30.09 of their day, they're in the vocational area. 00:06:30.12\00:06:32.47 Part of the day, we are having worship, they're 00:06:33.18\00:06:36.99 having personal devotions and so we are 00:06:37.02\00:06:41.25 intentionally educating in all of those areas to 00:06:42.35\00:06:46.48 develop the whole person. All the students here on 00:06:46.51\00:06:49.05 campus work, there is a lot of different vocational 00:06:49.08\00:06:51.79 areas like that we have kitchen. 00:06:51.82\00:06:53.66 We have grounds; we have office works, 00:06:53.95\00:06:57.08 school cleaning, dorm cleaning, call portering, 00:06:57.11\00:07:00.23 and video productions. We've greenhouses, 00:07:00.95\00:07:04.18 where our freshmen have a class in agriculture, 00:07:04.21\00:07:07.38 so they get their own little plot of land and 00:07:07.41\00:07:09.70 they get to pick what they grow and they 00:07:09.73\00:07:11.71 weed it, and they care for it and then they 00:07:11.74\00:07:14.14 harvest it and we all get to eat in the cafeteria 00:07:14.17\00:07:17.02 and they get excited because that's what they made. 00:07:17.05\00:07:19.09 These are where all our meals are prepared. 00:07:19.12\00:07:21.33 We've our cook here Ms. Linda, she is doing 00:07:21.36\00:07:24.12 of course, prepares our delicious 00:07:24.15\00:07:25.51 meals at this school. I always get the opinion 00:07:25.54\00:07:28.11 of the kids called third opinion is 00:07:28.14\00:07:29.68 very important to me. In fact if they make 00:07:29.71\00:07:33.10 something better, I'm sure they can do it. 00:07:33.13\00:07:34.64 You know, I like to see my food eat, not thrown away. 00:07:34.67\00:07:37.80 Well, I think that we've really been blessed that 00:07:39.64\00:07:42.01 we've 1200 beautiful acres in Tennessee. 00:07:42.04\00:07:44.79 And 600 Adventist Woodlands and 600 00:07:45.39\00:07:49.48 Adventist total acreage, we've beautiful overlooks. 00:07:49.51\00:07:53.14 Lot's of really neat terrain to take kids. 00:07:54.08\00:07:56.43 We involve them in outdoor activities, in biology. 00:07:57.73\00:08:01.81 This is our outdoor classroom. This is where some teachers 00:08:01.84\00:08:04.98 come out and do their classroom, their classes 00:08:05.01\00:08:07.05 sometimes, like there is like lot of chairs and 00:08:07.08\00:08:09.80 tables down there, so you can actually sit 00:08:09.83\00:08:11.96 down or if you want to come up for devotionals 00:08:11.99\00:08:13.99 or anything, you can come on, just sit out 00:08:14.02\00:08:16.34 under the tress of the shade on all those tables 00:08:16.37\00:08:19.03 with your friends, if you would like. This here is 00:08:19.06\00:08:21.41 our school building and office building, this is 00:08:21.44\00:08:23.57 where we take most, all the classes, we have a 00:08:23.60\00:08:27.40 lab here, where we do our chemistry and 00:08:27.43\00:08:29.70 physics lab reports and things like that, we also 00:08:29.73\00:08:32.86 have our own computer lab with the new 00:08:32.89\00:08:35.65 computers, that we just got also. 00:08:35.68\00:08:37.45 And we take the students a lot of places, 00:08:37.48\00:08:40.43 where they have, hands on learning experience, 00:08:40.46\00:08:43.63 for example last week, we had our junior class 00:08:43.66\00:08:46.30 up in Battle Creek, Michigan. At the historic Adventist 00:08:46.83\00:08:51.10 village and so they're having hands on 00:08:51.13\00:08:54.27 experiences with the Heritage of the 00:08:54.30\00:09:00.08 Adventist movement and that's something 00:09:00.11\00:09:03.03 that we feel is really important 00:09:03.06\00:09:04.47 in education is that. That education be 00:09:04.93\00:09:08.43 connected to life and it makes the things, that 00:09:08.46\00:09:11.61 students study that are much more meaningful. 00:09:11.64\00:09:13.79 The girls, one of their vocational training 00:09:13.82\00:09:17.19 programs is cooking. For the guys, one of 00:09:17.22\00:09:20.46 their vocational programs is in my 00:09:20.49\00:09:22.48 wife's class learning construction, where 00:09:22.51\00:09:24.80 they actually go out on the campus and they 00:09:24.83\00:09:26.66 build things like decks, ponds, sidewalks and 00:09:26.69\00:09:32.69 it's exciting because now they're taking the 00:09:32.72\00:09:35.43 tape measure that they learned how to read 00:09:35.46\00:09:37.21 their freshmen year, they're learning these 00:09:37.24\00:09:40.08 formulas in their freshmen year and 00:09:40.11\00:09:42.17 they're using them in a practical situation in 00:09:42.20\00:09:44.69 their sophomore year. We don't have regular 00:09:44.72\00:09:46.82 desks, we've tables in our classroom. 00:09:46.85\00:09:49.67 And that's because we use a variety of 00:09:50.61\00:09:53.02 education techniques to teach students to work 00:09:53.58\00:09:57.27 as a group, to think as a group and work together. 00:09:57.74\00:10:01.35 Then by the time they graduate, they have 00:10:02.34\00:10:05.41 skills to offer right out at high school to earn 00:10:05.44\00:10:09.30 money towards college or to go straight 00:10:09.33\00:10:11.65 to the mission field. 00:10:11.68\00:10:12.65 Well, ASI has been such a blessing in so 00:10:14.03\00:10:18.36 many ways. We've been able to take some of our 00:10:18.39\00:10:22.00 students down to help in the children's divisions, 00:10:22.03\00:10:26.71 to be able to lead out to care for them and 00:10:27.01\00:10:29.74 because a lot of ASI members bring their 00:10:30.33\00:10:31.92 children and there needs to be a ministry for 00:10:31.95\00:10:34.65 them as well. They also have the 00:10:34.68\00:10:36.81 chance when the meetings are over to 00:10:36.84\00:10:38.41 walk into this huge exhibit hall and see that 00:10:38.44\00:10:41.24 they're a part of a worldwide church. 00:10:41.27\00:10:43.21 Now just a little part of a Church right here in 00:10:43.93\00:10:46.51 the middle Tennessee or in their own little home town, 00:10:46.54\00:10:48.75 but a worldwide Church, where the Holy Spirit 00:10:48.78\00:10:51.11 is moving and living and breathing. 00:10:51.14\00:10:52.99 ASI has a lot to do with why we've a flight program. 00:10:53.02\00:10:56.31 Don Sterling sent us an email that somebody 00:10:56.34\00:10:58.83 had made a donation for us to have a plane and 00:10:58.86\00:11:03.24 you know the Lord brought to us a couple 00:11:03.27\00:11:05.69 years before that a pilot, who wanted to teach history. 00:11:05.72\00:11:10.99 And then the Aeroplane was delivered this past 00:11:11.33\00:11:13.07 June and the program started this fall. 00:11:13.10\00:11:15.98 I've setup a course, that if a student wants to go 00:11:16.37\00:11:20.62 at age 18. They graduate from Heritage, 00:11:20.65\00:11:23.58 go straight to the mission field with their 00:11:23.61\00:11:25.28 commercial pilot's license. We've a program 00:11:25.31\00:11:28.19 structured for that. They start flying as a 00:11:28.22\00:11:30.82 sophomore, they receive their private 00:11:30.85\00:11:34.39 pilot license when they turn 17. They receive 00:11:34.42\00:11:37.40 their commercial license when they turn 18 at 00:11:37.43\00:11:40.06 which point they can go straight 00:11:40.09\00:11:41.74 to the mission field. The idea and it probably 00:11:41.77\00:11:44.87 sounds crazy the way I express it, but the idea 00:11:44.90\00:11:47.92 is to put together a school that's really 00:11:47.95\00:11:50.35 being led by the students and we do it in 00:11:50.38\00:11:53.30 a number of ways, our year book editor is a student. 00:11:53.33\00:11:57.48 We've a student, who is leading out in our video 00:11:57.51\00:12:01.38 production group. We've the members of 00:12:01.41\00:12:04.07 the SA regularly, I put them in charge of things 00:12:04.10\00:12:07.86 and tell them you know, to go do things, 00:12:07.89\00:12:10.61 organize recreation or activities and you know 00:12:10.64\00:12:17.19 that way, that way they're making the 00:12:17.22\00:12:19.77 decisions, they're thinking and that's 00:12:19.80\00:12:22.74 really the goal. Last year, there was a 00:12:22.77\00:12:26.36 student, who is sharing with me and she was a 00:12:26.39\00:12:28.97 senior and she said when I came to the school. 00:12:29.00\00:12:32.55 I looked at the juniors and seniors, and I said 00:12:32.58\00:12:36.19 to myself there are so big and they're so smart 00:12:36.22\00:12:39.63 and they are such great leaders and just you know, 00:12:39.66\00:12:43.45 she had trouble ever imagining herself going 00:12:43.48\00:12:46.71 up into that role. Umm! And then you know at 00:12:46.74\00:12:51.47 graduation, she spoke about that in her senior speech. 00:12:51.50\00:12:55.11 But, now she had become all of these things over 00:12:55.14\00:12:58.80 the course of her time here. And that's you know 00:12:58.83\00:13:01.71 that's a big things that, you know, you're 00:13:01.74\00:13:04.92 developing a Christian character, you're 00:13:04.95\00:13:07.07 developing leadership. You are developing 00:13:07.10\00:13:10.60 decision making cooperative, cooperative abilities to be 00:13:11.70\00:13:18.25 able to work with other people. 00:13:18.28\00:13:19.56 ASI like heritage academy firmly believes in involving 00:13:21.62\00:13:25.56 youth in service and outreach. There is no better time 00:13:25.59\00:13:29.27 to be nourishing a love of Jesus and our 00:13:29.30\00:13:31.83 fellowman in our young people through acts of 00:13:31.86\00:13:34.89 humble service. For more information about 00:13:34.92\00:13:37.62 Heritage Academy call 931-839-6675 or visit 00:13:37.65\00:13:44.01 www.heritagetn.org, ASI has committed to 00:13:44.52\00:13:50.78 affective evangelism, to that end we are 00:13:50.81\00:13:53.83 sponsoring a train them now. A program that trains 00:13:53.86\00:13:57.65 lay people to conduct evangelistic meetings in 00:13:57.68\00:13:59.94 their homes, using the new beginning's DVDs, 00:13:59.97\00:14:03.56 around the world more then twenty thousand 00:14:04.09\00:14:06.73 people have been trained so far and they 00:14:06.76\00:14:09.30 in turn have held over one hundred thousand 00:14:09.33\00:14:12.22 evangelistic meetings resulting in tens of 00:14:12.25\00:14:15.49 thousands of Baptisms. When you come to ASI, 00:14:15.52\00:14:19.55 you've an opportunity to network with other 00:14:19.58\00:14:20.80 individuals of like mindedness. 00:14:20.83\00:14:22.71 ASI has helped me meet many, many others professionals. 00:14:22.74\00:14:27.14 Rubbing shoulders and hanging out with people 00:14:27.17\00:14:29.96 that are committed to the Lord soon coming. 00:14:29.99\00:14:32.27 You need to come to ASI, just network and hear 00:14:32.30\00:14:34.33 the testimonies because it will change 00:14:36.17\00:14:37.14 your life, it really works. 00:14:37.15\00:14:38.12 You and I couldn't go very long without 00:14:49.29\00:14:51.06 water; quite simply we need water to live. 00:14:51.09\00:14:54.86 In the same way, we need the living water of Jesus Christ. 00:14:55.34\00:14:59.22 To truly have life Jesus is the only answer, 00:14:59.64\00:15:03.11 Garry Bartholomew owns a water well 00:15:03.77\00:15:05.68 service business in Spokane, Washington. 00:15:05.71\00:15:08.06 On a daily basis, he is able to share this 00:15:08.54\00:15:11.41 analogy with customers and tell them about Jesus. 00:15:11.44\00:15:14.92 There's 15,000 people everyday that die worldwide 00:15:18.95\00:15:23.04 because of bad water or the lack of water. 00:15:23.07\00:15:26.22 Any faucet that we go to, you know, it may have 00:15:26.67\00:15:29.87 a little chlorine in it. We don't like the taste, 00:15:29.90\00:15:32.46 but it isn't gonna kill us or give us amoeba or 00:15:32.49\00:15:36.05 hepatitis or any of these nasty diseases. 00:15:36.08\00:15:39.13 Another way of saying that is that 80 percent of 00:15:39.16\00:15:42.91 the hospital beds in the world are filled with people 00:15:42.94\00:15:45.40 from waterborne diseases or from the lack of water. 00:15:45.43\00:15:48.70 We've one village that had just kind of a little 00:15:49.08\00:15:52.40 pond type thing that they got their water from. 00:15:52.43\00:15:58.19 You wouldn't let your animals 00:15:58.71\00:16:00.24 drink out of this water. I mean it is just absolutely 00:16:00.27\00:16:03.99 gross and people were dying because of it. 00:16:04.02\00:16:07.18 So, I am able to share that in my business and 00:16:07.21\00:16:09.80 it brings some very rewarding conversations. 00:16:09.83\00:16:13.50 It take those people's minds off their poor 00:16:13.95\00:16:15.96 troubles that Oh! Boy, I don't have water this 00:16:15.99\00:16:18.41 morning and it allows me to share this 00:16:18.44\00:16:24.42 dynamic ministry and sometimes a lot of 00:16:24.45\00:16:29.54 books or literature. Our ministry is water for life 00:16:30.34\00:16:34.08 international and it got started basically from 00:16:34.11\00:16:37.70 my wife and I going to Guatemala for the last 00:16:38.21\00:16:40.79 12 years, four years ago we started drilling 00:16:40.82\00:16:44.38 wells in Guatemala. It's a beauty from ashes story. 00:16:44.41\00:16:48.73 We hired a contractor in Guatemala to drill a 00:16:49.06\00:16:51.38 well for international children's care 00:16:51.41\00:16:53.34 orphanage there. We spend seven 00:16:53.37\00:16:55.83 months, went about 200 ft, told us we had 300 00:16:55.86\00:16:59.83 gallons in a minute, we'd never use all that 00:16:59.86\00:17:02.08 water and when we got down there and put a 00:17:02.11\00:17:05.32 pump in it, we had nothing, we had less 00:17:05.35\00:17:08.35 then three gallons a minute and it was 00:17:08.38\00:17:09.98 contaminated water. We decided well we come 00:17:10.01\00:17:13.21 from a drilling family, drilling background. 00:17:13.24\00:17:15.74 Let's try out ourselves. So, we started drilling 00:17:16.77\00:17:19.46 four years ago, what we began with was providing 00:17:19.49\00:17:24.81 safe water for the orphanage and school there. 00:17:24.84\00:17:29.14 And just miracle after miracle from there on 00:17:29.17\00:17:32.70 has brought us to where we are today with two 00:17:32.73\00:17:35.96 drill rigs, a pump truck and what other 00:17:35.99\00:17:41.93 equipment down there. We've a shop down 00:17:41.96\00:17:43.59 there now and this pick up is actually going 00:17:43.62\00:17:46.59 down this winter, is gonna be driven down 00:17:46.62\00:17:49.11 towing a trailer to the project. 00:17:49.14\00:17:51.22 Now, we are drilling in surrounding villages, 00:17:51.25\00:17:53.55 clinics. This year, we hope to do another 00:17:54.53\00:17:57.31 orphanage in El Salvador and a hospital 00:17:57.99\00:18:03.33 in Belize and more, more wells right around 00:18:03.36\00:18:08.39 the orphanage and school there. 00:18:08.42\00:18:10.15 It's a third world country that doesn't 00:18:10.77\00:18:12.74 have much for water system, so typically it's 00:18:12.77\00:18:15.82 come out of the river and that's where it still 00:18:15.85\00:18:17.50 comes from. Of course all the villages upstream 00:18:17.53\00:18:20.66 from the source, you know, use the river for 00:18:20.69\00:18:23.54 their waste also and so the further the river 00:18:23.57\00:18:26.17 goes, more contaminated it is and you now, 00:18:26.20\00:18:29.48 it looks like water. But, it's, it's water and a lot 00:18:29.51\00:18:33.48 of parasites, lot of problems. We started out with a 00:18:33.51\00:18:37.15 differential item in '89 Lincoln town car, 00:18:37.81\00:18:40.94 because it had about the right gear ratio and then 00:18:42.08\00:18:46.23 modified the opinions, so that we could get an 00:18:47.68\00:18:50.82 eccentric vertical lift. Now they have a hand 00:18:50.85\00:18:56.00 pump, they have no electricity, so they can't 00:18:56.03\00:18:58.11 run an electrical pump. But, they have actually a 00:18:58.14\00:19:00.67 merry go round pump is what we put on their 00:19:00.70\00:19:02.86 well and when they play on the merry go 00:19:02.89\00:19:05.27 round, it pumps them water. In the beginning it was, 00:19:05.30\00:19:07.94 you know, it was noble and it was new and 00:19:08.31\00:19:11.02 there were a lot of kids just playing on it. 00:19:11.05\00:19:13.61 Also we don't just provide safe water, we 00:19:14.45\00:19:17.61 provide the water of life, we do a lot of 00:19:17.64\00:19:19.96 sharing of the Gospel and we've seen scores 00:19:20.94\00:19:24.06 of Baptisms, very rewarding. I work with the drilling 00:19:24.09\00:19:27.29 part of things to a degree, but I've been 00:19:27.32\00:19:30.55 consumed more in the last few years with the evangelistic 00:19:30.58\00:19:35.17 side of things. That's how we open the 00:19:35.20\00:19:38.16 door though is to give them clean water, show 00:19:38.19\00:19:40.69 the people that we're there to help them. 00:19:40.72\00:19:43.29 Show them that we care about them and then 00:19:43.32\00:19:47.00 they're willing to listen to really truly what 00:19:47.03\00:19:49.45 we're down there for and that is tell them 00:19:49.48\00:19:52.68 and give them the true water of life. 00:19:52.71\00:19:55.28 I was in India doing some drilling 25 years ago. 00:19:55.59\00:19:59.84 And I start up the drill rig in the morning and 00:20:00.30\00:20:03.50 within a few moments, I would have three or 00:20:03.53\00:20:06.25 four hundred people standing around that 00:20:06.28\00:20:07.90 drill rig and I had the impression that, 00:20:07.93\00:20:12.16 Oh! If only I could have a picture roll. I wanted 00:20:12.19\00:20:15.99 anything to tell these poor people how it was 00:20:16.02\00:20:20.86 that they could get the scabs out of their hair or 00:20:21.46\00:20:24.09 they could get the flies off their face and 00:20:24.12\00:20:27.52 whatever else and I vowed right there in my 00:20:28.10\00:20:30.70 own heart that I would never work overseas 00:20:30.73\00:20:34.10 again, if I couldn't tell the people about Jesus. 00:20:34.13\00:20:38.35 A 12 year old boy from our Church does a 00:20:38.69\00:20:41.41 series of meetings each year. He has done it two years, 00:20:41.44\00:20:43.90 he will be going again this year. 00:20:43.93\00:20:45.38 I went and I preached the first meeting and 00:20:45.41\00:20:47.16 afterwards a young woman came up to me 00:20:47.19\00:20:49.58 and she looked about 6 months pregnant and 00:20:49.61\00:20:51.98 through the translator I learned that she had 00:20:52.01\00:20:53.80 been in a cab and bus wreck and it has 00:20:53.83\00:20:57.68 squeezed her abdomen and she had few fluids 00:20:57.71\00:21:00.24 leaking inside of her, so we got down there in 00:21:00.27\00:21:03.16 my building and we prayed for her. 00:21:03.19\00:21:04.92 And she says, I'm leaving tomorrow to go 00:21:04.95\00:21:06.76 to Guatemala City. The doctors are insisting 00:21:06.79\00:21:08.99 comedown for my second surgery. 00:21:09.02\00:21:11.16 They're gonna take out part of my colon, 00:21:11.19\00:21:13.09 part of my pancreas, part of my, there is lot 00:21:13.12\00:21:16.56 of her abdomen stuff, so it wouldn't leak and she 00:21:16.59\00:21:18.76 said there is a 50 percent chance that I'm 00:21:18.79\00:21:20.95 going to die or if I live. She came back in just a 00:21:20.98\00:21:24.75 few days, she says. I didn't have to have surgery. 00:21:24.78\00:21:27.28 And about the next night, she was there. 00:21:27.31\00:21:29.27 There she was, flat stomach and all, and I was amazed. 00:21:29.30\00:21:32.23 And she came back to say thank you to that 12-year-old boy 00:21:32.26\00:21:36.13 and to the Lord. She was healed. 00:21:36.16\00:21:38.28 To watch those people respond to Christ. 00:21:38.94\00:21:42.13 When presented with people from, a few 00:21:42.85\00:21:49.08 years old to 80 years old, it doesn't seem to matter. 00:21:49.11\00:21:53.37 I haven't seen a failure yet. It's what the Lord taught 00:21:54.14\00:21:57.15 us to do, it's what he came here and did, 00:21:57.18\00:21:59.71 was took care of people's physical needs 00:22:00.70\00:22:03.21 and then, they were able to talk spiritual things 00:22:04.18\00:22:07.46 and that, that's extremely satisfying. 00:22:07.49\00:22:10.02 Their health has improved, the medical 00:22:10.35\00:22:12.40 bills went down 60 percent in the first year 00:22:12.43\00:22:15.10 at the orphanage, just by having safe water 00:22:15.13\00:22:17.86 and we see a lot of parasite problems, a lot 00:22:17.89\00:22:20.86 of deaths from that and with safe water, which 00:22:20.89\00:22:24.94 just makes a difference between night and day. 00:22:24.97\00:22:27.41 ASI has shown me and I'm a person 00:22:28.51\00:22:32.89 that learns by example. I see something and I learn 00:22:32.92\00:22:37.21 that and they have shown me, they have modeled 00:22:37.24\00:22:39.79 to me sharing Christ. It is just more fun then 00:22:39.82\00:22:45.82 a barrel of monkeys to come and be able to see 00:22:45.85\00:22:49.07 people that are witnessing in their marketplace. 00:22:49.10\00:22:53.19 That are sharing Christ in their marketplace. 00:22:53.22\00:22:55.81 The networking that we experience at ASI 00:22:55.84\00:23:00.14 is something we can't get anywhere else. 00:23:00.17\00:23:03.14 Because we see other people that, that may 00:23:03.64\00:23:06.01 have a ministry and maybe they're just 00:23:06.04\00:23:07.57 across the border in another country, but we 00:23:07.60\00:23:10.07 see people that would love to go learn how to 00:23:10.10\00:23:13.50 drill a well or we see people that would like 00:23:13.53\00:23:16.60 to go help built a church or do some sharing of 00:23:16.63\00:23:20.67 the Gospel in an evangelistic series and 00:23:20.70\00:23:23.95 we see people that print literature, Spanish 00:23:23.98\00:23:26.82 books or literature, that we take down. 00:23:26.85\00:23:29.98 We took 14, we took 9000 pounds of 00:23:30.01\00:23:32.36 literature last year in our container when we 00:23:32.39\00:23:35.24 shipped them. So, this year we are taking 00:23:35.27\00:23:37.75 Bible, Spanish Bibles and literature and the 00:23:37.78\00:23:41.33 message books and so, all of these things we 00:23:41.36\00:23:44.21 find at ASI conventions and I don't know of any 00:23:44.24\00:23:47.51 other place we could find that. 00:23:47.54\00:23:48.93 A dozen years ago, I started being more 00:23:49.59\00:23:53.20 active in the drilling associations in the 00:23:53.23\00:23:55.55 different states, I could never really understand 00:23:55.58\00:23:59.34 and I asked myself what in the world am I going 00:23:59.37\00:24:01.55 to play golf with or we want to camp out with a 00:24:01.58\00:24:05.92 bunch of well drillers because industry looks 00:24:05.95\00:24:09.71 at me, at some of those people who are dirty all 00:24:09.74\00:24:12.39 the time and some of them have language 00:24:12.42\00:24:16.35 similar and this kind of thing and we put people 00:24:16.38\00:24:20.29 in a box. I have found a willingness among the 00:24:20.32\00:24:24.80 drillers, among the manufactures. 00:24:24.83\00:24:27.60 Some of these people I have called them up 00:24:28.17\00:24:31.24 from Guatemala and said this is our problem 00:24:31.27\00:24:34.22 and he says do I understand you are doing 00:24:34.25\00:24:36.48 mission work down there, I said yes. 00:24:36.51\00:24:39.07 He says I'm prepared to donate this if you do 00:24:39.10\00:24:42.60 the freight on it. There's pump suppliers 00:24:42.63\00:24:45.01 that supply pump and pipe and wire. 00:24:45.04\00:24:47.64 There's electrical suppliers that supply 00:24:47.67\00:24:49.91 electrical things, there's well drill suppliers that 00:24:49.94\00:24:52.96 supply tools and bits, things that are 00:24:52.99\00:24:55.43 expandable and those people are just, they're 00:24:55.46\00:25:00.42 happy to help, they want to help and that 00:25:00.45\00:25:02.71 encourages me. And I've seen people 00:25:02.74\00:25:06.29 that I thought were in a box and the Lord has 00:25:08.13\00:25:11.26 showed me I was wrong. You know, I do water 00:25:11.29\00:25:15.16 well pump systems and so I'm involved with 00:25:15.19\00:25:18.50 water in my everyday work. Now, I'm finding it harder 00:25:18.53\00:25:22.80 and harder to separate my ministry and my 00:25:22.83\00:25:26.95 everyday work to me they're one, it allows 00:25:26.98\00:25:30.02 me to share this dynamic ministry and 00:25:30.05\00:25:35.63 sometimes a lot of books or literature. 00:25:35.66\00:25:39.38 One of my favorite books is Child of the 00:25:39.91\00:25:42.21 Crossfire, because it's about a boy in 00:25:42.24\00:25:44.61 Guatemala, that actually ended up at that 00:25:44.64\00:25:47.36 orphanage and his dad was part of the guerrilla 00:25:47.39\00:25:51.32 forces and so the government captured him, 00:25:51.35\00:25:55.12 kill his dad and then wanted to get 00:25:55.15\00:25:57.78 information out of him and then the, when the 00:25:57.81\00:26:04.28 General Lucas was flying over this 00:26:05.06\00:26:07.12 devastated village taking this boy to the 00:26:07.15\00:26:09.76 orphanage. He looked down, he saw a little girl 00:26:09.79\00:26:12.04 in the garbage dump at the edge of the village. 00:26:12.79\00:26:15.81 The only form of life left that he could see. 00:26:16.71\00:26:19.66 He landed right there picked her up and took 00:26:19.91\00:26:21.97 her with him to the orphanage and we 00:26:22.00\00:26:24.88 adopted that girl in 1985 and that's our daughter, 00:26:24.91\00:26:28.99 and so that book talks about that and so I've 00:26:29.63\00:26:33.52 shared a lot of those books with people 00:26:33.55\00:26:35.25 because it also has the wonderful Sabbath message, 00:26:35.28\00:26:38.88 because the Sabbath is part of the program at 00:26:38.91\00:26:42.32 the international children's care orphanage and has just 00:26:42.35\00:26:46.34 lots, lots of good promises and a good message. 00:26:46.37\00:26:49.77 Our focus is on reaching out to others and 00:26:49.80\00:26:53.48 in my mind, that's made a healthy difference 00:26:53.51\00:26:56.42 in our Church. Its working like the Lord 00:26:56.45\00:27:00.48 said it would. It's more blessed to give then to 00:27:00.51\00:27:03.25 receive and I can see it. When I first started 00:27:03.28\00:27:07.19 going down of that while a couple weeks, 00:27:07.22\00:27:09.50 that's quite a bit of time to take and last year 00:27:09.53\00:27:12.51 I took two months and it's feeling better all the time. 00:27:12.54\00:27:14.97 What a wonderful example of sharing 00:27:19.13\00:27:21.14 Christ in the marketplace, stories like Gerry's 00:27:21.17\00:27:24.48 inspire me to get out of my comfort zone and 00:27:24.51\00:27:27.61 witness to those around me. If you would like to here 00:27:27.64\00:27:30.79 more testimonies like Gerry's, I encourage 00:27:30.82\00:27:33.81 you to come to the ASI convention, it's filled 00:27:33.84\00:27:37.04 with stories of people being used by God to 00:27:37.07\00:27:40.37 reach others both at home and around the world. 00:27:40.40\00:27:43.76 Find out more at www.asiministries.org. 00:27:44.36\00:27:49.12 You've been watching ASI Video Magazine, 00:27:50.86\00:27:53.89 I'm Dan Houghton, join me next time for more 00:27:53.92\00:27:57.16 stories of ASI members sharing Christ in the 00:27:57.19\00:28:00.41 marketplace.
