ASI is a ministry that's networking all these 00:00:01.98\00:00:02.95 different ministries together with the church. 00:00:02.96\00:00:05.48 Being involved with ASI, meeting other people. 00:00:05.51\00:00:08.02 ASI convention is an excellent opportunity, 00:00:08.05\00:00:10.26 just a great opportunity. In ASI, there is a 00:00:10.29\00:00:12.75 particular fellow. ASI is really the stamp, 00:00:12.78\00:00:15.75 it's the glue that holds all the ministries together. 00:00:15.78\00:00:18.11 Welcome to ASI video magazine, I'm Dan Houghton, 00:00:28.51\00:00:31.62 as I attend the ASI convention each year. 00:00:31.78\00:00:34.23 I'm continually amazed with the stories shared 00:00:34.30\00:00:37.25 by ASI members. Stories of witnessing 00:00:37.28\00:00:40.32 and outreach of sharing Christ in the market place. 00:00:40.35\00:00:43.28 Today, we're going to meet two ASI members 00:00:43.31\00:00:46.31 sharing Christ in very different ways. 00:00:46.34\00:00:48.28 One through publishing in media and the other 00:00:48.34\00:00:51.16 through personal relationships in 00:00:51.19\00:00:52.78 the workplace. When Light Bearers Ministry 00:00:52.81\00:00:55.37 was founded in 1986 it was a small outfit doing 00:00:55.40\00:00:59.11 door to door outreach, Bible studies, 00:00:59.14\00:01:00.74 and weekend seminars. Today, they are a publishing 00:01:00.77\00:01:04.60 media, and teaching ministry. 00:01:04.63\00:01:06.28 Light Bearers prints 20 to 40 million pieces 00:01:06.64\00:01:09.65 of literature every year. They are involved 00:01:09.68\00:01:12.02 in projects around the world and produced 00:01:12.05\00:01:14.71 television programs targeted at reaching 00:01:14.74\00:01:17.03 secular society. Let's find out how God has used 00:01:17.06\00:01:20.69 Light Bearers to bless his work around the world. 00:01:20.72\00:01:23.67 This is our new publishing facility, 00:01:25.81\00:01:27.53 which we built about two years ago, 00:01:27.56\00:01:29.08 we're really happy to be in this building because 00:01:29.11\00:01:31.35 it is large enough to facilitate all of our needs. 00:01:31.38\00:01:34.53 First of all after the literature comes out 00:01:34.56\00:01:37.23 of the design department it goes on to our 00:01:37.26\00:01:40.05 six color Sanden web press and then it is brought 00:01:40.08\00:01:45.01 on cards to the folders, where the tracks are 00:01:45.04\00:01:47.72 folded and boxed up and then finally 00:01:47.75\00:01:50.14 they are palatalized and prepared to go onto 00:01:50.17\00:01:54.05 the trucks and out the door to the ocean liner 00:01:54.08\00:01:56.75 for wherever the destination maybe. 00:01:56.78\00:01:58.41 The Light Bearers Ministry began as a 00:01:58.44\00:02:01.98 teaching ministry, didn't have a publishing aspect 00:02:02.01\00:02:05.08 at first that developed later, shortly after our 00:02:05.11\00:02:09.96 conversion to Christianity and my partner James 00:02:09.99\00:02:12.95 and I began doing in home Bibles study, small 00:02:12.98\00:02:16.12 group studies with 10, 12, 15 people in a group. 00:02:16.15\00:02:19.33 Ty and I would both new converse came out 00:02:19.36\00:02:22.79 of the world, I'd a catholic background 00:02:22.82\00:02:24.97 and I don't think he had any kind of religious 00:02:25.00\00:02:27.67 background and we met in Spokane, Washington. 00:02:27.70\00:02:29.49 Ty had joined the Church a couple of years before 00:02:29.52\00:02:32.51 I had through evangelistic series, 00:02:32.54\00:02:35.04 I came through personal Bible study 00:02:35.07\00:02:37.07 and then went through some evangelistic series 00:02:37.10\00:02:40.05 on Daniel and when we met we just became friends, 00:02:40.08\00:02:43.39 we both had a zeal of burden and desire to just 00:02:43.42\00:02:45.84 share the things that we were learning, 00:02:45.87\00:02:47.42 they were so new to us and so clear 00:02:47.45\00:02:49.98 and so powerful and so life altering. 00:02:50.01\00:02:52.10 We were young and energetic, and just really 00:02:52.13\00:02:54.12 eager to share in any venue that might be 00:02:54.15\00:02:57.16 open to us and through that medium we began 00:02:57.19\00:03:00.64 to conduct seminars pretty much every weekend 00:03:00.67\00:03:04.35 in different places around the country 00:03:04.38\00:03:06.66 and other countries as well. 00:03:06.69\00:03:08.53 Sometimes people say wow you and Ty, 00:03:08.56\00:03:10.25 you know, you just kind interact really 00:03:10.28\00:03:12.88 well together, you guys rehearse that no, 00:03:12.91\00:03:15.04 no that was years of just hanging out together, 00:03:15.07\00:03:18.19 driving together, talking, interacting, 00:03:18.22\00:03:20.31 it just kind a follows out or it comes natural. 00:03:20.34\00:03:22.57 And then as we continued on in the teaching work 00:03:22.60\00:03:27.35 that we were doing, we saw the value or preparing 00:03:27.38\00:03:31.88 outlines and studies in written form to share 00:03:31.91\00:03:35.74 with the people, who were attending the seminars. 00:03:35.77\00:03:38.60 Up until about 87, we were printing some small 00:03:38.63\00:03:42.51 pieces of literature, copy machine, 00:03:42.54\00:03:44.74 nothing really, you know great. 00:03:44.77\00:03:46.34 But we really felt a desire to get a press. 00:03:46.37\00:03:48.68 We didn't know anything about publishing 00:03:48.71\00:03:50.35 and never laid eyes on a press before up 00:03:50.38\00:03:53.26 closing personally, it was just a device 00:03:53.29\00:03:56.20 we knew was out there in the technological world 00:03:56.23\00:03:59.36 and we could make use of it and we knew 00:03:59.39\00:04:01.18 it would have a major impact on the world. 00:04:01.21\00:04:04.49 So, we did a little bit of research, we picked 00:04:04.52\00:04:07.25 a small two color press called an AB Dick. 00:04:07.28\00:04:10.20 And it wasn't really a professional press. 00:04:10.23\00:04:12.49 It was an AB Dick, it was a duplicator something 00:04:12.52\00:04:14.44 that they using a copy shop. 00:04:14.47\00:04:15.65 But it was impressed us, you know, 00:04:15.68\00:04:17.83 you inked it up, you have rollers the whole bit. 00:04:17.86\00:04:19.66 And we purchase the thing, they delivered it, 00:04:19.69\00:04:22.71 they told us that the next day they would send 00:04:22.74\00:04:25.80 somebody to do some training on the press. 00:04:25.83\00:04:27.75 But we just couldn't contain ourselves, 00:04:27.78\00:04:30.02 so we slap some ink on there 00:04:30.05\00:04:32.01 and the necessary chemicals, 00:04:32.04\00:04:33.89 and we got the thing up in running determent 00:04:33.92\00:04:37.08 to get ink to stick the paper by morning. 00:04:37.11\00:04:39.23 And we stayed up all night long and we just were, 00:04:39.26\00:04:43.33 we had a few, I can't remember what 00:04:44.22\00:04:45.71 they are called, but where the blows out 00:04:45.74\00:04:47.45 and the whole thing needs to be cleaned up 00:04:47.48\00:04:49.07 and you start from scratch and we did a few 00:04:49.10\00:04:51.61 of those and by the time the sun started 00:04:51.64\00:04:54.14 rising and the dawn started breaking upon us, 00:04:54.17\00:04:57.14 we were still awake, still working with this press 00:04:57.30\00:05:00.58 and we were so excited because we are 00:05:00.61\00:05:02.25 printing ink on paper and it was legible. 00:05:02.28\00:05:04.91 And then the trainer came, the guy 00:05:05.73\00:05:08.56 that was gonna teach us how to run the press 00:05:08.59\00:05:10.16 and he came to the ministry 00:05:10.19\00:05:11.82 and there we were you know just all story 00:05:11.85\00:05:14.53 we had and excited, and he came in 00:05:14.56\00:05:17.43 and he started going through with us. 00:05:17.46\00:05:19.13 And we just had one question after another. 00:05:19.16\00:05:21.38 And he just couldn't figure out why we had so many 00:05:21.41\00:05:23.76 questions and they were just all very 00:05:23.79\00:05:25.40 practical questions. And we told him about 00:05:25.43\00:05:27.96 our experience, we said we have been up all night 00:05:27.99\00:05:29.34 with this press and we run through and he said, 00:05:29.37\00:05:31.02 I now wonder you asking all these questions. 00:05:31.05\00:05:32.81 He said these questions are all based on the 00:05:32.84\00:05:34.87 experience you have had all night running 00:05:34.90\00:05:36.37 this press right, I said, we said yes 00:05:36.40\00:05:37.98 absolutely so it was awesome. 00:05:38.01\00:05:39.77 We were certain of two things at that point 00:05:39.80\00:05:41.84 and that is that it could be done. 00:05:41.87\00:05:43.37 And that we needed to keep going in the direction 00:05:43.77\00:05:45.92 of publishing and that we needed to hire 00:05:45.95\00:05:47.91 somebody else to actually run the press. 00:05:47.94\00:05:50.09 And that began to develop in 87 and by 1990 00:05:50.41\00:05:54.26 we had a full publishing house. And we started 00:05:54.29\00:05:56.98 to print containers of literature for overseas. 00:05:57.01\00:06:00.21 Light Bearers Ministry is all about filling 00:06:00.24\00:06:02.66 containers with truthful literature and then 00:06:02.69\00:06:06.01 shipping it to designated areas around the world, 00:06:06.04\00:06:08.84 where people are in desperate need 00:06:08.87\00:06:10.99 of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:06:11.02\00:06:12.59 Literature distribution is the most effective way 00:06:12.62\00:06:16.32 of communicating the Gospel for at least 00:06:16.35\00:06:18.41 three reasons. Number one cost effectiveness. 00:06:18.44\00:06:21.26 All of this literature that we print is produced 00:06:21.29\00:06:24.93 and shipped for less than four pennies 00:06:24.96\00:06:28.69 per publication. This press is the one that 00:06:28.72\00:06:32.17 we use to print material in mass. 00:06:32.20\00:06:35.58 We can fill the container with material 00:06:35.61\00:06:38.04 in about two weeks. Secondly, its effective 00:06:38.07\00:06:41.45 because of its impact, it's a tangible item that 00:06:41.48\00:06:44.35 people hold in their hands to take home other 00:06:44.38\00:06:46.11 family members can read it, so it has a, it has an 00:06:46.14\00:06:49.10 ongoing life cycle in a community, in a home. 00:06:49.13\00:06:52.48 And to this date, we probably printed about 00:06:52.51\00:06:54.77 four hundred and thirty million plus pieces 00:06:54.80\00:06:58.31 of literature in over thirty different languages. 00:06:58.34\00:07:01.31 So, the third reason is because the literature 00:07:01.34\00:07:04.42 that is placed in people hands has 00:07:04.45\00:07:07.12 a grounding effect. It's more effective to read 00:07:07.15\00:07:11.25 the truth and to go over it again and again 00:07:11.28\00:07:15.28 and to have it in your possession in a written 00:07:15.31\00:07:17.15 form then merely to hear somebody 00:07:17.18\00:07:19.26 speak the truth and then leave town. 00:07:19.29\00:07:21.76 And right now we're printing French, 00:07:21.79\00:07:23.37 Portuguese, we have got of course the English 00:07:23.43\00:07:27.32 and request for a number of other different 00:07:27.35\00:07:31.58 languages, we have developed the ministry 00:07:31.61\00:07:35.11 primarily to present literature for the needs 00:07:35.14\00:07:40.54 of third world countries. Countries that just 00:07:40.57\00:07:42.55 don't have the means to fund literature 00:07:42.58\00:07:45.28 and to do it in such a way that 00:07:45.31\00:07:47.83 we can make the cost low. 00:07:47.86\00:07:50.03 All over has gone out absolutely free of charge, 00:07:50.06\00:07:53.20 the gift to various entities around the world 00:07:53.23\00:07:56.53 that becomes distribution centers and so really 00:07:56.56\00:07:59.62 what Light Bearers Ministry is, 00:07:59.65\00:08:01.47 is it is a massive communication network, 00:08:01.80\00:08:05.57 just in this year this coming year alone. 00:08:05.60\00:08:08.02 We will put into circulation 50 to 60 million 00:08:08.05\00:08:11.56 publications. Sometimes you know, 00:08:11.59\00:08:14.46 you get so busy and you're out there doing 00:08:14.49\00:08:16.38 ministry and doing what you need to do 00:08:16.41\00:08:17.85 and you lose site or lose connection with some 00:08:18.14\00:08:21.79 of these other ministries and what they're up to 00:08:21.82\00:08:23.45 and no one really has time to connect. 00:08:23.48\00:08:25.00 So, you take a few days off every year about 00:08:25.22\00:08:27.68 August first week and you go to ASI convention 00:08:27.71\00:08:30.01 and you hick up with all these different ministries 00:08:30.04\00:08:32.07 and you connect with them all at one time. 00:08:32.10\00:08:33.84 You just get it all out of the way 00:08:33.87\00:08:35.15 and you don't have to be calling everyone 00:08:35.53\00:08:37.26 then you figure out what their schedules 00:08:37.29\00:08:40.03 are for different events and you try to hook 00:08:40.06\00:08:42.21 that in what you're doing and see if you can work 00:08:42.24\00:08:44.51 together and there is so much more 00:08:44.54\00:08:46.43 to get accomplished as you work 00:08:46.46\00:08:48.28 with these other ministries. 00:08:48.31\00:08:49.37 The ASI convention is an excellent opportunity, 00:08:49.40\00:08:52.23 just a great opportunity to meet people, 00:08:52.26\00:08:54.79 to lay plans, to cast vision and also along 00:08:54.82\00:08:59.41 the way as you attend the meetings at ASI, 00:08:59.44\00:09:02.07 you just receiving a lot of motivation 00:09:02.10\00:09:04.29 and education that goes a long way for shaping 00:09:04.35\00:09:08.24 what it is that we're going to do to 00:09:08.27\00:09:10.23 make an impact in the world field. 00:09:10.26\00:09:11.85 And so ASI really facilitates that, 00:09:11.88\00:09:13.96 it's a wonderful place. 00:09:13.99\00:09:15.20 One of the most incredible things that we have 00:09:15.27\00:09:17.45 witnessed and experienced as a ministry is that 00:09:17.68\00:09:21.37 we've received reports of churches 00:09:21.95\00:09:25.01 that have spontaneously come into existence. 00:09:25.04\00:09:27.95 Because literature was distributed in the area, 00:09:28.14\00:09:31.48 so we've had missionaries who have gone 00:09:31.94\00:09:34.76 to villages and towns and way out of the way places 00:09:35.35\00:09:38.97 and they start holding meetings and Bible studies 00:09:39.00\00:09:42.51 and so on. And they discovering 00:09:42.54\00:09:43.84 the process that, hey these people already know 00:09:43.87\00:09:46.84 the certain truths and they began to inquire, 00:09:46.87\00:09:49.72 how do you know these Bible truths? 00:09:49.75\00:09:52.49 How did you encountered these things that 00:09:52.52\00:09:53.89 another evangelist or missionary come to visit 00:09:53.92\00:09:56.27 and they produce Light Bearers literature, 00:09:56.71\00:10:00.07 literature is that sometime earlier, months ago, 00:10:00.10\00:10:03.42 years ago someone came through the village 00:10:04.01\00:10:07.22 with the bag pack full of literature because 00:10:07.25\00:10:09.38 we send a container and people ride on bicycles 00:10:09.41\00:10:12.77 into remote places if they go out on hikes into 00:10:12.80\00:10:15.42 remote villages and they just hand the 00:10:15.45\00:10:17.66 literature out free and then they leave. 00:10:17.69\00:10:19.23 One of the most exciting experiences 00:10:19.54\00:10:21.77 I had was on my first trip to Africa. 00:10:21.80\00:10:23.57 You know, we've been printing literature 00:10:23.60\00:10:24.83 for Africa for over 20 years. 00:10:24.86\00:10:26.86 But I never actually gone there until 2006. 00:10:26.89\00:10:29.79 And the country I went to the first time 00:10:29.98\00:10:31.92 was Zimbabwe, which is in a very difficult 00:10:31.95\00:10:34.85 economic situation with high, high inflation. 00:10:34.88\00:10:37.97 And we went to, I went to the University of Solusi, 00:10:38.00\00:10:42.37 which is an Adventist University. 00:10:42.40\00:10:43.81 University status just recently. But it's also the 00:10:43.84\00:10:46.20 oldest mission in Africa, 00:10:46.23\00:10:48.32 the oldest Seventh-Day Adventist mission in Africa. 00:10:48.35\00:10:50.25 It was founded in 1895 with the grant of land 00:10:50.28\00:10:52.98 from the government. They have over two thousand 00:10:53.01\00:10:54.99 students in row, 60 to 80 percent of them are 00:10:55.02\00:10:57.80 not Seventh-Day Adventist, it's a 00:10:57.83\00:10:59.21 catholic country, so lot of them are Catholics. 00:10:59.24\00:11:01.05 And I was there doing weekend prayer 00:11:01.11\00:11:02.87 on three angles message, Revelation 14 00:11:02.90\00:11:05.90 and it was really fun, but it was also intense 00:11:06.15\00:11:09.40 and the reason why it was so intense is because 00:11:09.43\00:11:11.69 you've a lot of kids there, who do not have 00:11:11.72\00:11:13.21 an Adventist background and actually have 00:11:13.24\00:11:16.70 a catholic background. But they don't 00:11:16.73\00:11:18.18 necessarily have Bibles, they don't necessarily 00:11:18.21\00:11:19.86 have literature, and so when I am preaching 00:11:19.89\00:11:21.68 they are hearing things for the first time 00:11:21.71\00:11:23.17 and the scene slides, power point presentation 00:11:23.20\00:11:26.55 slides with all this documentation on it. 00:11:26.58\00:11:29.00 But because they don't have it hand, 00:11:29.03\00:11:30.57 they can't necessarily go to the web, 00:11:30.60\00:11:32.09 they have a lot of questions. 00:11:32.12\00:11:33.62 And they are not sure if they believe 00:11:33.65\00:11:35.14 or they can accept what I'm teaching. 00:11:35.17\00:11:37.11 And so what we did, I did a question answer 00:11:37.28\00:11:39.64 time that helped a little bit. 00:11:39.67\00:11:40.64 And I was able to share from the Bible, 00:11:40.66\00:11:42.32 but they don't have Bibles in lot of them. 00:11:42.35\00:11:43.80 I have four students, four catholic girls 00:11:43.95\00:11:46.15 for example, that were intense about 00:11:46.18\00:11:48.68 what day was the Sabbath and asking me about, 00:11:48.94\00:11:50.98 that, but only one of them had a Bible 00:11:51.01\00:11:52.73 between the four. So, got back to 00:11:52.76\00:11:54.63 Light Bearers and we organized and got together 00:11:54.66\00:11:57.78 a container of literature filled with lessons, 00:11:57.81\00:12:02.28 Bible lessons. Bibles, thousands of Bibles 00:12:02.31\00:12:05.02 and we sent five thousand Bibles there. 00:12:05.05\00:12:06.57 We have sent enough Bibles there for 00:12:06.60\00:12:07.76 each student and just a couple months later 00:12:07.79\00:12:09.76 a 165 young people were Baptized 00:12:09.79\00:12:12.21 and became Seventh-Day Adventist. 00:12:12.24\00:12:13.97 And it was really exciting because I know 00:12:14.00\00:12:15.40 that part of the reason for that was not 00:12:15.91\00:12:17.62 just the weekend prayer, but also the follow-up 00:12:17.65\00:12:20.82 with the literature that help to stabilize 00:12:20.85\00:12:23.41 the message that we had share in their hearts 00:12:23.44\00:12:26.19 and help them to be able to go back to a Bible, 00:12:26.22\00:12:28.33 which they didn't have. Back to Bible studies, 00:12:28.36\00:12:30.39 which they didn't have and back to literature, 00:12:30.42\00:12:31.97 which they didn't have and we affirm everything 00:12:32.00\00:12:35.70 that we have taught. And now our plan 00:12:35.73\00:12:37.42 is to just keep sending a container of literature 00:12:37.45\00:12:39.61 to Solusi University every year. 00:12:39.64\00:12:41.54 They get it through Blue Whale in Zimbabwe 00:12:41.95\00:12:44.15 and they were just soaking about I mean. 00:12:44.18\00:12:46.31 We could send two or three containers 00:12:46.34\00:12:48.47 every year. But what happens as you send 00:12:48.50\00:12:50.69 a container of literature to Solusi. 00:12:50.72\00:12:52.21 You have these theology students there, 00:12:52.29\00:12:54.85 there are some of them are graduating, 00:12:55.20\00:12:56.37 new ones are coming in, you have new 00:12:56.40\00:12:57.84 students coming in that come from different 00:12:57.87\00:13:00.17 denominations, different backgrounds, 00:13:00.20\00:13:02.19 and so it's a brand new field of ministry 00:13:02.22\00:13:05.80 every year. You don't have to unnecessarily 00:13:05.83\00:13:08.07 go off campus. It's a mission campus right there, 00:13:08.10\00:13:10.82 so you are sending literature to a place, 00:13:10.85\00:13:12.46 where the mission field is right there at 00:13:12.57\00:13:15.60 Adventist institution, it's really 00:13:15.63\00:13:17.98 exciting to see that happening. 00:13:18.01\00:13:19.50 It's wonderful to see how God can use us 00:13:21.24\00:13:23.71 for his glory to spread the good news 00:13:23.74\00:13:25.99 of his love to the entire world. 00:13:26.02\00:13:27.90 And I'm thankful for Light Bearers 00:13:28.05\00:13:30.31 and the other ministries that are members of ASI. 00:13:30.34\00:13:33.14 Together, we're telling the world about 00:13:33.78\00:13:35.94 Christ's love and soon return. 00:13:35.97\00:13:38.06 To learn more about Light Bearers call 00:13:38.73\00:13:40.88 area code 541-988-3333 or visit www.lbm.org. 00:13:40.91\00:13:50.39 ASI has eight regional chapters across 00:13:51.02\00:13:53.42 North America; these chapters host there own 00:13:53.45\00:13:56.72 local conventions each spring along with 00:13:56.75\00:13:59.68 occasional rallies and meetings throughout 00:13:59.71\00:14:01.36 the year. I get encourage when I come 00:14:26.64\00:14:28.83 to the ASI conference. The speakers, the fellowship 00:14:28.86\00:14:32.31 that you have, it is so charging and recharging. 00:14:32.34\00:14:35.66 I'm top lifted, once I went, 00:14:35.69\00:14:37.32 I didn't wanna miss. You need to 00:14:37.35\00:14:38.86 come to ASI. There is nothing like it. 00:14:38.89\00:14:40.81 Jesus is rightly called the master physician. 00:14:51.19\00:14:54.16 Well here on this earth he performed 00:14:54.28\00:14:56.47 many miraculous acts of healing. 00:14:56.50\00:14:58.56 One of the best ways we as Christians 00:14:59.29\00:15:01.10 can witness for Christ is to help others 00:15:01.13\00:15:03.85 with their physical ailments. 00:15:03.88\00:15:05.24 Dr. Carlos Japas is a physician 00:15:05.70\00:15:08.37 and ASI member from Burleson, Texas. 00:15:08.40\00:15:10.97 Let's find out how he's used 00:15:11.28\00:15:13.12 his practice to witness to others. 00:15:13.15\00:15:15.65 I was prepared my own funeral 00:15:18.75\00:15:19.93 and my wife was writing that these are 00:15:21.75\00:15:23.56 only one for my funeral. I wanted to be different. 00:15:23.59\00:15:26.87 I don't wanted people just crying 00:15:26.90\00:15:28.88 because you know. We still remaining 00:15:28.91\00:15:31.92 in this world, we will die anyway. 00:15:31.95\00:15:34.16 But I wanted to be different, I wanted to do 00:15:35.80\00:15:37.54 a sermon for my friends that they only think 00:15:37.66\00:15:42.46 that most of them they only think that, 00:15:42.49\00:15:44.19 they worry about life is getting a 00:15:44.22\00:15:46.90 professional degree, making money. And they don't 00:15:46.93\00:15:50.72 worry about, who is your good neighbor. 00:15:50.75\00:15:52.84 Victor is a great guy; he, he's actually young, 00:15:53.00\00:15:56.84 dynamic. And he is a quite intelligent man; 00:15:56.87\00:16:00.60 he is an engineer in electronics. 00:16:00.63\00:16:04.10 Working with a Groberman in a private company, 00:16:04.57\00:16:07.51 I was flying every 15 days to different countries. 00:16:08.12\00:16:11.61 I don't know in what country that I buried 00:16:13.46\00:16:18.34 that virus disease, but the first thing 00:16:18.37\00:16:25.55 I notice is my feet. When I look at my feet 00:16:25.58\00:16:28.45 because it was starting little pink when 00:16:29.06\00:16:31.85 I was walking and I notice that lose 00:16:31.88\00:16:35.02 therefore multiply in my feet 00:16:35.05\00:16:36.57 because it look like elephant feet. 00:16:36.60\00:16:38.49 And one day he came in to see me 00:16:38.71\00:16:41.07 and says doctor, I need your help, 00:16:41.10\00:16:43.81 I have been seeing so many doctors, 00:16:44.64\00:16:46.79 but I just want the opinion of a Christian doctor. 00:16:46.82\00:16:50.69 Before I was going to Dr. Japas, 00:16:51.40\00:16:53.75 I had a feel, the feeling, strong feeling that. 00:16:54.33\00:16:57.83 I won't be dying in seven days. 00:16:58.31\00:17:00.26 I examined him, I went through all the areas 00:17:01.11\00:17:04.79 that I could see, that I could help me 00:17:04.82\00:17:06.81 make a diagnoses. I even look at the reports 00:17:06.84\00:17:12.58 that he brought to me from other doctors. 00:17:12.61\00:17:14.65 And I said Victor I really don't know 00:17:14.68\00:17:16.42 what you have, but I know one thing. 00:17:16.45\00:17:18.29 We gonna trust in God, we gonna do the best we can. 00:17:18.94\00:17:21.84 We gonna pray, if you don't mind I am gonna 00:17:21.87\00:17:23.76 pray with you and God would give us the answer. 00:17:23.79\00:17:26.36 An every single visit that I got with Dr. Japas, 00:17:26.67\00:17:32.50 we pray before and what he find out later 00:17:32.53\00:17:37.66 I have a sarcoidosis, which is a disease that, 00:17:37.69\00:17:41.63 is worse than TBC. 00:17:41.66\00:17:43.17 He was swollen on the feet I thought at beginning, 00:17:43.33\00:17:46.93 but he had some congestive heart failure. 00:17:46.96\00:17:49.41 But that was not so. 00:17:49.74\00:17:50.83 I told the Lord, I quit my job if you still need 00:17:51.19\00:17:55.58 me in ministry. I'm going to quit my job 00:17:55.61\00:17:59.16 and I do in one month, but if you cure me 00:18:00.21\00:18:02.94 in seven days, I told the Lord you have to cure 00:18:02.97\00:18:04.83 them in seven days I have the strong 00:18:04.86\00:18:06.77 sensation instead, instead of dying in seven days. 00:18:06.80\00:18:10.32 I will be alive, but if I alive after seven days 00:18:10.35\00:18:12.91 is mean that he will open the door for me at least. 00:18:12.94\00:18:15.31 I said victor we need to take an x-ray, 00:18:16.02\00:18:17.91 when I saw that x-ray it was just full of white 00:18:17.94\00:18:22.91 ground glass appearance typical of 00:18:24.19\00:18:27.06 what could be tuberculosis. 00:18:27.09\00:18:29.69 You know, when I said to Dr. Japas that I will, 00:18:30.01\00:18:33.43 I was about, I had a strong sensation that 00:18:33.46\00:18:36.74 I will be dying in seven days. 00:18:36.77\00:18:38.09 He looked at me and he says unless God have 00:18:38.38\00:18:43.35 another plans you won't die. 00:18:43.38\00:18:45.75 We will do all that you can, I don't know 00:18:46.66\00:18:50.15 who you are he says to me, he was sincere, 00:18:50.18\00:18:52.39 but he would lead me with prayer, 00:18:54.16\00:18:55.24 we will find out and that was a comfort 00:18:56.03\00:18:59.38 in my heart. Because I knew, 00:18:59.41\00:19:00.67 I was in where I with the rippers. 00:19:01.00\00:19:03.51 As he says I'm alive because you are my doctor 00:19:04.62\00:19:07.20 and I was shocked, I said, hey Victor 00:19:07.23\00:19:09.18 I haven't done anything for you. 00:19:09.21\00:19:10.64 He said no, no doctor you're the answer 00:19:11.02\00:19:13.19 to my prayers. I thought I was gonna die 00:19:13.22\00:19:15.35 and I thought that was the end of my life. 00:19:15.38\00:19:18.81 And I wanted to have an opinion from 00:19:18.84\00:19:20.42 a Christian doctor, but you pray for me. 00:19:20.45\00:19:22.58 And from that moment I knew that God 00:19:22.61\00:19:25.31 has healed me. As a matter of fact, 00:19:25.34\00:19:27.00 I went back to my doctors that were, 00:19:27.03\00:19:29.11 they have seen me. They have checked my lungs 00:19:29.14\00:19:33.04 and when they took another x-ray 00:19:33.07\00:19:34.75 they couldn't see anything on them 00:19:34.78\00:19:36.48 and it was quite miracle. I didn't know that 00:19:36.51\00:19:39.76 happens then I was shocked, but I praise God 00:19:39.79\00:19:42.38 because he is the only one that could 00:19:42.41\00:19:44.14 have healed Victor. I become very well 00:19:44.17\00:19:46.31 acquainted with Dr. Japas as a patient treating 00:19:46.34\00:19:49.94 all my different ailments and he always takes time, 00:19:49.97\00:19:52.99 always very careful and curious in kind. 00:19:53.02\00:19:57.45 And when I walk into his waiting room 00:19:58.72\00:20:00.61 that is always full and I know those people 00:20:02.10\00:20:05.04 are there because he treats them in the same way. 00:20:05.07\00:20:08.33 Each patient is a unique case and I enjoyed 00:20:09.42\00:20:12.32 each one of them sometimes I have to be 00:20:12.35\00:20:14.28 reminded by my nurses that I am spending 00:20:14.31\00:20:16.51 too much time with them 00:20:16.54\00:20:17.56 and that's one of my faults. 00:20:17.59\00:20:20.00 I was chairing the Huguley Hospital board 00:20:20.55\00:20:23.39 and the nurses nearby were talking about 00:20:23.42\00:20:29.23 Dr. Japas, Dr. Japas a new doctor. 00:20:29.26\00:20:32.01 And they were so excited about him that 00:20:32.90\00:20:35.96 they voted him to be the Doctor of the year. 00:20:35.99\00:20:39.45 At a hospital like ours, there is about 00:20:39.88\00:20:41.60 350 doctors and probably only 20 or 25 of those 00:20:41.63\00:20:47.55 doctors are Seventh-Day Adventists 00:20:47.58\00:20:49.37 and Dr. Japas is a Seventh-Day Adventist 00:20:49.85\00:20:53.05 obviously, but more importantly lives his life 00:20:53.08\00:20:56.20 in such a way that his colleagues elect him 00:20:56.23\00:20:58.78 as a president of the medical staff, they, 00:20:58.81\00:21:00.61 they've confidence in him and appointed him 00:21:00.64\00:21:02.37 into that position and so an Adventist Hospital 00:21:02.40\00:21:05.46 with Adventist physician serving in that role. 00:21:05.49\00:21:07.67 I think the way it should be. 00:21:07.97\00:21:09.40 The Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Cleburne, 00:21:09.80\00:21:11.80 Texas has organized a free clinic. 00:21:11.83\00:21:15.60 And I'm sure that Dr. Japas spends quite 00:21:16.30\00:21:19.68 a bit of time there, I know he is involved there 00:21:19.71\00:21:21.88 and donating his time to the helping of indigenous 00:21:22.70\00:21:26.20 and I believe last year that clinic 00:21:26.83\00:21:30.07 so over two thousand people. 00:21:30.10\00:21:31.73 I'm not the only one doing these things 00:21:32.15\00:21:33.88 there are many physicians in our institution 00:21:33.91\00:21:36.42 Huguley Medical Center, which offer their service 00:21:36.45\00:21:39.97 totally free for this type of patients and indigenous. 00:21:40.09\00:21:43.99 And the Huguley Hospital under his inspirational 00:21:44.02\00:21:47.11 leadership has started venturing to 00:21:47.14\00:21:51.10 Latin American Countries and to I believe Africa. 00:21:51.13\00:21:53.80 I see patients here on these states indigenous, 00:21:54.40\00:21:57.50 but also do it twice or three times a year 00:21:57.53\00:22:00.45 a mission project. 00:22:00.48\00:22:01.91 Last, in the last couple of years, we have taken 00:22:01.94\00:22:04.37 mission trips to Honduras and Dr. Japas went 00:22:04.40\00:22:08.31 there with us a couple times and he has gonna 00:22:08.34\00:22:11.25 down there and served and because 00:22:11.28\00:22:12.98 he is bilingual that has been a big blessing 00:22:13.01\00:22:15.88 additionally to being a physician going out 00:22:16.14\00:22:18.54 and ministering the health needs of the people. 00:22:18.57\00:22:20.20 He can talk to them and make summaries in that way. 00:22:20.23\00:22:23.63 And when we comeback, it's amazing to see 00:22:23.66\00:22:27.05 those people rejoicing, they wanna do it 00:22:27.08\00:22:29.75 it immediately again. They are just signing their 00:22:29.78\00:22:32.00 names again and they wanna know when 00:22:32.03\00:22:34.42 we're gonna be going out again into this place 00:22:34.45\00:22:37.20 because they really love what they do 00:22:37.23\00:22:39.86 and they really become enthusiastic about it 00:22:39.89\00:22:43.14 and they appreciate actually what they have at home. 00:22:43.17\00:22:46.04 And it just helps the whole spiritual atmosphere 00:22:46.07\00:22:49.10 of the Church and this kind of thing has been 00:22:49.13\00:22:52.89 generated largely through Dr. Mrs. Japas. 00:22:52.92\00:22:55.83 It's so good to share, you know, 00:22:56.65\00:23:00.85 the voice of all the people that does they have 00:23:00.88\00:23:03.37 the opportunity we have to know Jesus 00:23:03.40\00:23:06.44 to tell them about Jesus, through especially 00:23:06.47\00:23:10.54 I like to work with leader around the children 00:23:10.57\00:23:12.94 with occasion in school or with medical group 00:23:12.97\00:23:17.59 that go and help them to teach a better way to live. 00:23:17.62\00:23:21.66 So, Gracie when I was about to marry her, 00:23:21.69\00:23:24.97 I said Gracie at one condition I'm gonna 00:23:25.00\00:23:27.05 marry you, I said if you promise to me 00:23:27.08\00:23:30.13 that you're gonna give me 12 children. 00:23:30.16\00:23:32.56 He dreams with a big family and I was 00:23:33.17\00:23:38.53 earlier afraid to have a big family. 00:23:38.56\00:23:41.67 And she says thought for a while, 00:23:41.83\00:23:44.29 she swallow little bit, and says yes I promise. 00:23:44.32\00:23:47.75 After we've our second child, 00:23:48.09\00:23:50.79 which still having in our home foreign students. 00:23:50.82\00:23:54.95 So, the children's came, came with first, 00:23:55.47\00:23:58.42 the second, the third. I already forget about that, 00:23:58.93\00:24:02.53 I had enough with three. 00:24:02.56\00:24:03.68 But she had not forgotten about that. 00:24:03.71\00:24:05.98 And leader by leader I find out that my house 00:24:06.01\00:24:09.34 will fix all this young students they came 00:24:09.91\00:24:13.31 and we adopt them as our children. 00:24:13.60\00:24:17.04 They follow the rules of the home 00:24:17.07\00:24:19.08 and we enjoyed them as daughters and son. 00:24:19.45\00:24:23.09 And I was quite of, not very happy about that 00:24:23.90\00:24:30.40 and say I wanna my privacy, I wanted to be 00:24:30.43\00:24:32.32 in my home, I wanted to be rule it of the house 00:24:32.35\00:24:34.87 and now this stranger comes in. 00:24:34.90\00:24:36.53 I don't know what the outcome, 00:24:36.70\00:24:38.39 what's gonna be, I said well 00:24:38.53\00:24:40.43 I promise you 12 children, so here is another one. 00:24:40.46\00:24:43.51 And so over the year she has been filing up 00:24:43.55\00:24:46.41 and not only she has given me 12, 00:24:46.44\00:24:48.20 she has given me close to 28 and one time 00:24:48.23\00:24:51.75 she even brought me a couple, 00:24:51.78\00:24:53.34 which was a single mother with a child. 00:24:53.48\00:24:57.22 I said enough Gracie that's not right, 00:24:57.25\00:24:59.56 what are you doing with me and she said 00:24:59.72\00:25:02.58 well this poor lady had no place to go. 00:25:02.61\00:25:04.94 But she wants to follow our faith, no, 00:25:05.16\00:25:07.29 do you know her, no I don't know her. 00:25:07.32\00:25:09.22 I just met her in the street. 00:25:09.25\00:25:10.55 I said how do you dare to do that 00:25:10.58\00:25:12.90 and she said well that she needs to have help. 00:25:12.93\00:25:16.05 And as a consequence of being in our house 00:25:16.23\00:25:19.15 the child became a student. 00:25:20.03\00:25:23.55 She went to our academy, she lived with 00:25:23.58\00:25:26.00 our children's like if she was one of us. 00:25:26.03\00:25:28.35 She graduated from college and she is working 00:25:28.63\00:25:31.62 as a pastor right now. We want to go and do outreach 00:26:16.43\00:26:19.18 and we got our kids involved with this. 00:26:19.21\00:26:21.42 We're seeing a renaissance of Adventism 00:26:22.10\00:26:25.81 through ASI, they're bringing back the old spirit 00:26:25.84\00:26:30.41 and they're witnessing for Christ 00:26:31.12\00:26:33.45 in the market place. And I believe that 00:26:33.48\00:26:36.84 Dr, Japas and his health care practice, 00:26:36.87\00:26:40.14 his medical practice is doing that in a part 00:26:40.17\00:26:44.32 excellent matter. There are people that 00:26:44.35\00:26:47.16 invite him to conduct their funerals 00:26:48.11\00:26:50.99 non-Adventist families because of his 00:26:51.02\00:26:53.74 spiritual leadership, because they know he is 00:26:53.77\00:26:56.89 a Godly man and his wife Gracie 00:26:56.92\00:27:00.60 and his sister Norma they have a powerful 00:27:00.63\00:27:05.66 influence upon the patients in an uplifting 00:27:05.69\00:27:08.71 spirit building way, it's just an inspiration 00:27:08.74\00:27:11.98 to watch them. I go into the clinic quite 00:27:12.01\00:27:14.67 frequently with my own needs or to draw 00:27:14.70\00:27:17.21 some air in. And to see them all at work 00:27:17.24\00:27:20.16 with the other staff members is 00:27:20.19\00:27:22.66 like walking into a Church activity. 00:27:22.69\00:27:24.96 There are so many ways God can use us, 00:27:27.27\00:27:29.31 to touch the lives of others. 00:27:29.34\00:27:30.70 If we're just willing to let him lead. 00:27:30.98\00:27:33.16 ASI is made up a people just like Dr. Japas, 00:27:33.70\00:27:37.23 who have given their lives in businesses 00:27:37.26\00:27:39.66 for God to use according to his purpose. 00:27:39.69\00:27:42.49 For more information about ASI 00:27:43.11\00:27:45.26 and how to become a member, 00:27:45.29\00:27:46.51 call area code 301-680-6450 00:27:47.37\00:27:51.99 or visit www.asiministries.org 00:27:52.68\00:27:56.56 you've been watching ASI video magazine. 00:27:56.59\00:27:59.67 I'm, Dan Houghton, join me next time for more 00:27:59.70\00:28:03.48 stories of ASI member sharing Christ 00:28:03.51\00:28:06.05 in the market place.
