Music... 00:00:01.36\00:00:05.07 Hello, I'm Yvonne Shelton. 00:00:05.10\00:00:06.43 I've always had a fascination with names. 00:00:06.47\00:00:09.24 Invariably, when someone is sharing the news of a newborn 00:00:09.27\00:00:12.77 in the family, I'll ask, "What's the name?" 00:00:12.81\00:00:14.84 I guess somehow it helps me to better connect with them. 00:00:14.91\00:00:18.18 My father named me Yvonne Maria. 00:00:18.21\00:00:21.65 "Yvonne" is a French name 00:00:21.68\00:00:23.02 and "Maria" is Spanish 00:00:23.05\00:00:24.39 and I guess he was trying to be international or something. 00:00:24.42\00:00:26.96 But when he named me, 00:00:26.99\00:00:28.66 he wasn't thinking about the meanings. 00:00:28.69\00:00:30.93 He just liked the sound of it. 00:00:30.96\00:00:32.63 But Bible times... were different. 00:00:32.66\00:00:35.06 Names had incredible significance. 00:00:35.10\00:00:37.47 They were used to forecast the direction of the child's life. 00:00:37.50\00:00:40.84 The parents, when ascribing a name to their child, 00:00:40.87\00:00:43.91 were assigning a purpose and a direction in their training 00:00:43.94\00:00:47.01 so, yes, a name was important 00:00:47.04\00:00:49.21 as it could indicate the character and personality 00:00:49.24\00:00:52.15 of the one who bore it. 00:00:52.21\00:00:53.55 So, how much more significant 00:00:53.58\00:00:56.72 are the names and titles of our God? 00:00:56.75\00:00:59.22 It's been said that there are over 100 titles of God 00:00:59.25\00:01:03.29 in Scripture. 00:01:03.32\00:01:04.66 What do they reveal about His relationship to us? 00:01:04.69\00:01:07.86 The study of God's names and titles has so enriched my life. 00:01:07.90\00:01:11.90 I had the privilege last year of writing a book entitled: 00:01:11.93\00:01:15.90 Glimpses of His Glory: 00:01:15.94\00:01:17.27 A Revelation of God's Character through His Names and Titles 00:01:17.31\00:01:20.34 and it has been an amazing blessing 00:01:20.38\00:01:23.01 for me to get to know God more intimately 00:01:23.04\00:01:26.88 and more personally through His names. 00:01:26.92\00:01:30.65 I've entitled this Presentation: What's in a Name. 00:01:30.69\00:01:34.56 Pray with me. 00:01:34.59\00:01:35.92 "O Elohim, we thank You and praise You for this opportunity. 00:01:35.96\00:01:41.20 I pray that we will all come to know You better. 00:01:41.23\00:01:44.53 We praise You and thank You in the name of Yeshua, 00:01:44.60\00:01:47.90 Jesus our Savior, amen. " 00:01:47.94\00:01:49.70 Our Scripture reading for today is taken from Psalm 9 verse 10 00:01:49.74\00:01:57.28 and it's from the Amplified Version. 00:01:57.31\00:02:00.35 "And they who know Your name 00:02:00.38\00:02:02.48 will lean on and confidently put their trust in You, 00:02:02.52\00:02:06.19 for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You. " 00:02:06.22\00:02:09.86 As I read this Scripture, I realized 00:02:09.89\00:02:12.86 that knowing God's name 00:02:12.89\00:02:14.60 gives one a deeper faith and confidence in Him 00:02:14.63\00:02:17.70 because His names reflect 00:02:17.73\00:02:19.43 different aspects of His character. 00:02:19.47\00:02:21.04 The third commandment found in Exodus 20 verse 7 00:02:21.07\00:02:24.67 admonishes us not to take the name of the Lord our God 00:02:24.74\00:02:27.98 in vain 00:02:28.01\00:02:29.34 and that's one reason that we're to show reverence for His name. 00:02:29.38\00:02:32.41 It reflects His very essence. 00:02:32.45\00:02:35.15 The incomprehensible God reveals Himself through His names 00:02:35.18\00:02:39.29 which is one of the ways that He makes Himself known to man. 00:02:39.32\00:02:43.36 According to James Boice, the phrase: The Name of God 00:02:43.43\00:02:47.50 is a Semitic phrase for speaking of God's attributes. " 00:02:47.53\00:02:51.60 He says, "To be protected by the name 00:02:51.63\00:02:55.40 is therefore to be protected by the One Who is sovereign, 00:02:55.44\00:02:59.01 holy, all-knowing, wise, compassionate, 00:02:59.04\00:03:02.31 and anything else that can be properly said of God. 00:03:02.34\00:03:05.31 And there's more, 00:03:05.38\00:03:06.72 for to be kept 'in the name' 00:03:06.75\00:03:08.32 is not merely to be kept by God, as if He were some distant force 00:03:08.35\00:03:12.95 that could be called in to defend us 00:03:12.99\00:03:15.19 if that were necessary. 00:03:15.22\00:03:16.56 It is rather that we are actually in Him, 00:03:16.59\00:03:19.66 much like being in a fortress. 00:03:19.69\00:03:22.00 Thus, His power and other attributes 00:03:22.03\00:03:25.00 surround us constantly. " 00:03:25.03\00:03:28.27 Proverbs 18:10 says, 00:03:28.30\00:03:30.94 "The name of the Lord... " YHWH 00:03:30.97\00:03:33.88 "is a strong tower; 00:03:33.91\00:03:35.41 the righteous run to it and are safe. " 00:03:35.44\00:03:38.41 God's name is like a fort that provides protection and strength 00:03:38.45\00:03:43.59 to the believer. 00:03:43.62\00:03:44.95 One theologian said that as we grow to understand 00:03:44.99\00:03:48.06 the very nature and character of God, 00:03:48.09\00:03:50.09 we will find ourselves running to His name 00:03:50.13\00:03:52.83 to find safety and strength. 00:03:52.86\00:03:54.70 No... there's not one name 00:03:54.76\00:03:56.53 that can sum up the awesomeness of our God... 00:03:56.56\00:03:59.37 no finite words can describe the infinite one. 00:03:59.40\00:04:02.14 However, we can look at His names 00:04:02.17\00:04:04.87 as shared by Him in Scripture 00:04:04.91\00:04:06.57 and get a picture of who He is... 00:04:06.61\00:04:08.81 His character and personality... 00:04:08.84\00:04:11.05 His names are self-revelatory and relational 00:04:11.08\00:04:14.38 as they demonstrate His relationship to His creatures. 00:04:14.42\00:04:17.42 He reveals Himself to us with each name 00:04:17.45\00:04:21.02 and knowing these names fortifies us in Him. 00:04:21.06\00:04:24.86 The famous theologian, Charles Spurgeon said, 00:04:24.89\00:04:28.96 "There's a glorious fullness of assurance in the names of God. 00:04:29.00\00:04:32.90 By knowing His Name 00:04:32.93\00:04:34.70 is also meant an experimental acquaintance 00:04:34.77\00:04:37.44 with the attributes of God, 00:04:37.47\00:04:39.57 which are every one of them 00:04:39.61\00:04:41.61 anchors to hold the soul from drifting in seasons of peril. " 00:04:41.64\00:04:46.68 I would venture to say that each name or title of God 00:04:46.72\00:04:52.35 is an anchor for the soul 00:04:52.39\00:04:54.66 to keep us steadfast and immovable in times of stress 00:04:54.72\00:04:58.09 and hardship. 00:04:58.13\00:04:59.46 I believe that God wants every Christian to know His names 00:04:59.49\00:05:02.86 and titles... so that they can get closer to Him. 00:05:02.90\00:05:05.47 Would you like to know and experience Him in a new way? 00:05:05.50\00:05:09.60 Are you open to a richer, deeper understanding 00:05:09.67\00:05:15.51 of who God is? 00:05:15.54\00:05:16.88 Well, we're going to identify three names of God 00:05:16.91\00:05:20.28 that are anchors for the soul 00:05:20.32\00:05:22.08 that will keep you from drifting in seasons of peril. 00:05:22.12\00:05:25.95 Anchor Number 1: YHWH The Self-Existent One. 00:05:25.99\00:05:31.36 The most frequently designated name for God 00:05:31.39\00:05:36.77 in the Old Testament is YHWH. 00:05:36.80\00:05:39.60 Among the Jewish people of antiquity, 00:05:39.63\00:05:42.97 YHWH also known as: The Unutterable Name, 00:05:43.00\00:05:46.01 The Four Letters or the Tetragrammaton 00:05:46.04\00:05:49.01 had particular sacredness. 00:05:49.04\00:05:50.98 It was so holy that the Jews wouldn't speak it 00:05:51.01\00:05:54.08 for fear of blasphemy or taking it in vain. 00:05:54.12\00:05:56.85 So, instead of speaking it, they would write it 00:05:56.89\00:05:59.52 and when the name was written in Scripture to be read aloud, 00:05:59.55\00:06:03.43 they would substitute the name Adonai... 00:06:03.46\00:06:05.56 meaning Lord or Master. 00:06:05.59\00:06:07.56 In fact, in your Bible, 00:06:07.60\00:06:09.50 every time that you see the word LORD 00:06:09.53\00:06:11.87 written in uppercase letters... all Caps... 00:06:11.93\00:06:15.14 it is the English translation for YHWH 00:06:15.17\00:06:18.84 because all of the letters in the Hebrew alphabet 00:06:18.87\00:06:22.64 were consonants. 00:06:22.68\00:06:24.01 No one really knows how to pronounce YHWH 00:06:24.05\00:06:27.35 so most scholars say, Yahweh 00:06:27.38\00:06:29.92 and it's written as such 00:06:29.95\00:06:31.59 in the "Names of God" version of the Bible 00:06:31.62\00:06:33.99 but the true pronunciation is unknown. 00:06:34.06\00:06:36.39 So, just to be unauthentic 00:06:36.42\00:06:38.36 unless quoting from a source that uses Yahweh, 00:06:38.39\00:06:41.23 here in this Presentation, I allude to YHWH or the LORD 00:06:41.26\00:06:47.14 but think all caps... think uppercase. 00:06:47.17\00:06:50.54 In Exodus 3 verses 13 through 15 in the "Names of God" Bible, 00:06:50.57\00:06:58.35 Moses said to God, 00:06:58.41\00:07:00.18 "Suppose I go to the people of Israel and say to them, 00:07:00.22\00:07:03.49 'The Elohim of your ancestors has sent me to you... ' 00:07:03.52\00:07:06.72 and they ask me, 'What is His name?' 00:07:06.76\00:07:08.82 What should I tell them?" 00:07:08.89\00:07:10.89 In verse 14, God said, 00:07:10.93\00:07:12.86 "this is what you must say to the people of Israel, 00:07:12.89\00:07:16.93 'Ehyeh has sent me to you. Ehyeh asher ehyeh. '" 00:07:16.97\00:07:20.97 That's the name that God first gave Moses 00:07:21.00\00:07:23.84 in answer to his question about His name. 00:07:23.87\00:07:26.68 But check this out, 00:07:26.71\00:07:28.54 Ehyeh is not a noun but it's a verb. 00:07:28.58\00:07:33.42 A noun is the name of a person, place or thing 00:07:33.48\00:07:37.25 but a verb is an action word or a state of being. 00:07:37.29\00:07:41.06 So, a more correct translation of this 00:07:41.09\00:07:44.03 is the idea of the One Who Was... 00:07:44.06\00:07:47.20 Is... and Will Be. 00:07:47.23\00:07:49.30 He is the Self-Existent One without beginning or end. 00:07:49.33\00:07:53.60 Again, in the "Names of God" Bible, 00:07:53.64\00:07:57.14 Exodus 3:15... it states again, "Elohim said to Moses, 00:07:57.17\00:08:02.61 'This is what you must say to the people of Israel... 00:08:02.64\00:08:06.82 YHWH... Yahweh... Elohim of your ancestors... 00:08:06.85\00:08:10.92 the Elohim of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob has sent me to you: 00:08:10.95\00:08:15.72 this is My name forever, 00:08:15.79\00:08:17.86 this is My Title throughout every generation... '" 00:08:17.89\00:08:23.47 YHWH is probably an acronym for Ehyeh asher ehyeh. 00:08:23.50\00:08:29.00 Elohim, the Creator God, 00:08:29.04\00:08:32.04 stated that YHWH is His title throughout every generation. 00:08:32.07\00:08:39.75 Why is this important? 00:08:39.78\00:08:41.22 It's because God is showing Himself to be eternal. 00:08:41.25\00:08:44.85 There is none like Him. 00:08:44.89\00:08:46.45 He's self-existent 00:08:46.52\00:08:47.86 and there is no one higher than He. 00:08:47.89\00:08:50.26 Therefore, in Malachi 3:6 when it says, 00:08:50.29\00:08:52.59 "I am YHWH... I change not... " 00:08:52.66\00:08:56.06 He assures us of His reliability and omnipotence. 00:08:56.13\00:09:00.50 He's the same yesterday... today and forever. 00:09:00.54\00:09:04.91 What a mighty God we serve. 00:09:04.94\00:09:07.04 Anchor Number2: Yeshua. 00:09:07.08\00:09:10.91 Anchor Number 2 means YHWH is salvation. 00:09:10.95\00:09:19.32 When an angel of the Lord visited Joseph in a dream, 00:09:19.35\00:09:22.92 he told him about Mary. 00:09:22.96\00:09:24.66 She will give birth to a Son 00:09:24.69\00:09:26.53 and you will name Him Yeshua... He saves 00:09:26.56\00:09:29.66 because He will save His people from their sins. 00:09:29.70\00:09:32.93 That's Matthew 1:21 in the "Names of God" Bible. 00:09:32.97\00:09:36.77 Yeshua is a shortened form of the name Yehoshua 00:09:36.81\00:09:40.54 which we first find in the Old Testament book of Yeshoshua 00:09:40.58\00:09:44.55 or what we call: Joshua. 00:09:44.58\00:09:46.78 Yeshoshua is the literal Hebrew word for salvation. 00:09:46.82\00:09:51.52 Yeshoshua consists of two parts: 00:09:51.55\00:09:53.86 Yeho... which is a shortened form of YHWH... 00:09:53.89\00:09:58.16 the Tetragrammaton... when it's the first part of a name. 00:09:58.19\00:10:01.10 The English form is "LORD" 00:10:01.13\00:10:04.07 and then the second part is "shua" 00:10:04.10\00:10:07.30 and that's an abbreviated form of the verb: Yasha 00:10:07.34\00:10:10.54 which means to save, rescue or deliver. 00:10:10.61\00:10:13.44 Thus, the name Yehoshua means: The Lord saves or delivers. 00:10:13.48\00:10:18.38 The ancient Hebrew name for Jesus was Yeshua. 00:10:18.41\00:10:22.28 Jesus... that word "Jesus... " that name 00:10:22.32\00:10:26.05 is a transliteration of the name Yeshua 00:10:26.09\00:10:29.72 and we've learned to use them interchangeably 00:10:29.76\00:10:32.89 much as Peter in English 00:10:32.93\00:10:35.73 is the transliteration of Pedro in Spanish. 00:10:35.76\00:10:39.83 So, Yeshua was the name that Jesus was probably called 00:10:39.87\00:10:43.54 as a child growing up in His home 00:10:43.61\00:10:45.21 and although it was a rather conventional name at that time, 00:10:45.24\00:10:48.74 when applied to the Lord, 00:10:48.78\00:10:51.01 it was a name that had a unique and special significance. 00:10:51.05\00:10:55.05 Yeshua is the Savior of the world. 00:10:55.08\00:10:58.69 Many people want to say that there are many roads to God 00:10:58.72\00:11:02.62 but the Bible teaches that there is only one way 00:11:02.66\00:11:05.36 and that is through our Yeshua: The Lord Jesus Christ. 00:11:05.39\00:11:09.40 There is salvation in no one else 00:11:09.46\00:11:12.33 for there is no other name under heaven 00:11:12.37\00:11:14.50 that has been given among men by which we must be saved. 00:11:14.54\00:11:17.27 Acts 4:12. 00:11:17.31\00:11:18.67 Interestingly enough, 00:11:18.71\00:11:21.08 many people today don't want to acknowledge sin. 00:11:21.11\00:11:24.08 They think that to do so is to insult 00:11:24.11\00:11:26.82 or demean them in some way 00:11:26.85\00:11:28.28 and there are even some Evangelical preachers 00:11:28.32\00:11:31.02 who won't preach about the cross... repentance 00:11:31.05\00:11:33.72 or the blood of Jesus. 00:11:33.76\00:11:35.09 Well, that suits Satan just fine 00:11:35.12\00:11:37.43 because if we cannot call sin by its proper name, 00:11:37.49\00:11:41.03 then, we can't realize our need for a Savior. 00:11:41.06\00:11:44.60 Someone had to pay the price for humanity's sin. 00:11:44.63\00:11:47.44 Someone had to remove the wall of separation that sin creates 00:11:47.47\00:11:51.41 between us and our Creator... our Elohim. 00:11:51.44\00:11:53.91 How wonderful to have a God who would assume our form... 00:11:53.98\00:11:58.51 live a sinless and holy life... 00:11:58.55\00:12:00.52 allow Himself to be crucified 00:12:00.55\00:12:02.45 in order to pay the price for the sins of humankind 00:12:02.48\00:12:05.79 and then promise to return to take us home with Him. 00:12:05.82\00:12:09.06 He loves everyone... 00:12:09.09\00:12:11.03 no matter how distant they may be from Him. 00:12:11.06\00:12:14.86 Yeshua said that He came to seek and to save 00:12:14.90\00:12:18.63 that which was lost. 00:12:18.67\00:12:20.00 Is that you? 00:12:20.04\00:12:21.50 One day Yeshua is going to return to take us home with Him 00:12:21.54\00:12:25.87 and on that day, even those who rejected Him 00:12:25.91\00:12:28.74 will have to acknowledge who He really is. 00:12:28.81\00:12:31.58 God highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name 00:12:31.61\00:12:35.92 which is above every name 00:12:35.95\00:12:37.42 that at the name of Yeshua, the Lord saves or delivers... 00:12:37.45\00:12:41.19 every knee should bow... 00:12:41.22\00:12:42.62 of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth 00:12:42.66\00:12:46.23 and that every tongue should confess 00:12:46.26\00:12:48.26 that Yeshua... Messiah is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 00:12:48.30\00:12:52.33 Philippians 2 verse 9 through 11. 00:12:52.37\00:12:55.14 When we read in the Bible about Yeshua... Jesus... 00:12:55.17\00:12:59.27 we realize that He has power 00:12:59.31\00:13:02.41 not only to save but to transform... 00:13:02.44\00:13:05.11 not only to transform but to deliver us from the evil forces 00:13:05.15\00:13:09.28 that seek to destroy us. 00:13:09.32\00:13:11.02 Samuel found this out for himself. 00:13:11.05\00:13:14.19 Samuel knew that he was gay at a very young age. 00:13:14.22\00:13:18.86 Born in Iraq Kurdistan into a Muslim family, 00:13:18.89\00:13:23.50 he knew that a same-sex attraction 00:13:23.53\00:13:25.63 was socially tabooed. 00:13:25.67\00:13:27.04 At 15, Samuel moved to Sweden as a refugee. 00:13:27.07\00:13:30.31 He thought that he would at last be happy 00:13:30.34\00:13:33.17 and able to live his life freely as a gay man 00:13:33.24\00:13:36.14 but instead, he became more and more depressed. 00:13:36.18\00:13:39.08 Eleven years later, Samuel packed his bags 00:13:39.11\00:13:42.18 and he moved to Los Angeles 00:13:42.22\00:13:43.89 where he lived for about 17 years. 00:13:43.92\00:13:45.85 It was in Los Angeles that he became recognized 00:13:45.89\00:13:49.36 as the 24th most successful Realtor in the nation. 00:13:49.39\00:13:52.83 It was there in Los Angeles 00:13:52.86\00:13:55.26 that Samuel lived the "high life" with private jets, 00:13:55.30\00:13:58.93 multiple lovers and lots of money 00:13:58.97\00:14:01.67 but he couldn't have been more unhappy. 00:14:01.70\00:14:04.51 He began to look for happiness and peace 00:14:04.54\00:14:07.38 in the New-Age Movement. 00:14:07.41\00:14:08.74 He did yoga... 00:14:08.78\00:14:10.11 he practiced Transcendental Meditation. 00:14:10.15\00:14:12.31 He tried hypnosis and even became a Level 3 Reiki Master, 00:14:12.35\00:14:16.55 he was still miserable 00:14:16.58\00:14:18.15 and so, one night he was at a party 00:14:18.19\00:14:21.19 with his boyfriend at the time 00:14:21.22\00:14:22.82 when he met a guy who said that he had left homosexuality 00:14:22.86\00:14:26.76 and had given his life to Jesus Christ. 00:14:26.80\00:14:29.30 Samuel thought to himself, "Poor guy... 00:14:29.33\00:14:31.80 someone's brainwashed him. " 00:14:31.83\00:14:33.67 Samuel, by his own admission, was a proud gay man 00:14:33.70\00:14:37.41 who would get angry if anyone implied 00:14:37.47\00:14:39.51 that homosexuality was something to be saved from. 00:14:39.54\00:14:41.91 Six months later, his niece, Wala, 00:14:41.94\00:14:44.65 who had been struggling with drug addiction since she was 13 00:14:44.68\00:14:47.98 also said that she had met Jesus Christ. 00:14:48.02\00:14:50.65 She was one of Samuel's closest friends 00:14:50.69\00:14:53.25 and he witnessed how she was set free from all depression 00:14:53.29\00:14:56.83 and all drug use... it was a miracle. 00:14:56.86\00:14:59.83 This really got Samuel thinking 00:14:59.86\00:15:02.16 that maybe he too should get to know Jesus. 00:15:02.20\00:15:04.87 If Jesus could help the guy at the party 00:15:04.90\00:15:07.50 and set his niece free from drugs and depression, 00:15:07.54\00:15:10.41 could He do the same thing for him? 00:15:10.44\00:15:13.04 Samuel decided to surrender his life to Jesus Christ 00:15:13.07\00:15:17.51 and he says it was the best decision that he ever made. 00:15:17.55\00:15:21.55 He said that he's never had more peace and joy in his life 00:15:21.58\00:15:25.52 than he does now. 00:15:25.55\00:15:26.96 Samuel said, "The peace and joy that I have 00:15:26.99\00:15:31.79 since I've been saved surpasses all human understanding. 00:15:31.83\00:15:35.23 I don't miss anything from my old life. " 00:15:35.26\00:15:37.73 He said that Jesus Christ has given him victory 00:15:37.77\00:15:41.37 over homosexuality 00:15:41.40\00:15:43.20 and when he tells people that he's repented of it 00:15:43.24\00:15:46.17 and he follows Christ, many feel sorry for him. 00:15:46.21\00:15:49.14 They think that he's denying his identity 00:15:49.18\00:15:51.95 or that he turned his back on the gay community. 00:15:51.98\00:15:54.25 But the truth is, he says, 00:15:54.28\00:15:56.32 "God had saved me from a life of pain and selfishness 00:15:56.35\00:16:00.56 and self-destruction. 00:16:00.59\00:16:01.92 I wish more people would give Jesus a chance. " 00:16:01.96\00:16:05.59 One of Samuel's favorite verses is, 00:16:05.63\00:16:08.96 "I count all things but loss 00:16:09.00\00:16:11.17 for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus 00:16:11.20\00:16:13.64 my Lord: 00:16:13.67\00:16:15.00 for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, 00:16:15.04\00:16:17.91 and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ. " 00:16:17.97\00:16:20.81 Philippians 3:8. 00:16:20.88\00:16:22.21 Only Yeshua, Jesus, has the power to change a life. 00:16:22.24\00:16:26.68 He removes despair and replaces it with joy and peace. 00:16:26.72\00:16:31.09 Samuel found out for himself. 00:16:31.15\00:16:33.56 What about you? 00:16:33.59\00:16:34.96 Do you want to find out for yourself 00:16:34.99\00:16:37.36 just what Yeshua has to offer? 00:16:37.39\00:16:40.90 Romans 10 verses 9 and 10 says, 00:16:40.93\00:16:44.33 "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus 00:16:44.37\00:16:46.90 and believe in your heart 00:16:46.94\00:16:48.54 that God has raised Him from the dead, 00:16:48.57\00:16:50.34 you will be saved. 00:16:50.37\00:16:52.04 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, 00:16:52.07\00:16:56.11 and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. " 00:16:56.14\00:17:00.15 Whether you're a seasoned Christian 00:17:00.18\00:17:02.72 or a curious Agnostic... 00:17:02.78\00:17:04.69 renewing or accepting Yeshua as your Savior... is life-changing. 00:17:04.72\00:17:09.39 Samuel saw the transforming power of the Lord 00:17:09.42\00:17:12.29 as demonstrated in his formerly gay acquaintance 00:17:12.33\00:17:15.40 and in his previously drug-addicted depressed niece, 00:17:15.43\00:17:18.60 Wala. 00:17:18.63\00:17:20.17 Samuel made a decision to give Yeshua a try 00:17:20.20\00:17:22.57 and it's a decision that he has never regretted. 00:17:22.60\00:17:25.87 You may have parts of your life that need to be changed 00:17:25.91\00:17:29.31 and you just can't seem to do it. 00:17:29.34\00:17:31.31 You won't be able to do it on your own but Yeshua can 00:17:31.35\00:17:35.15 because He saves. 00:17:35.18\00:17:37.22 Our third anchor is the name: YHWH-Shammah... 00:17:37.25\00:17:43.49 The Lord is there. 00:17:43.53\00:17:45.26 The prophet Ezekiel's name in Hebrew was: Yehhez'qeyl 00:17:45.29\00:17:50.07 which means: God strengthens me 00:17:50.10\00:17:52.50 or: strengthened by God. 00:17:52.53\00:17:54.44 He was another case in which a name 00:17:54.47\00:17:57.01 had significance in the individual's life 00:17:57.04\00:17:59.57 for Ezekiel needed strength 00:17:59.61\00:18:01.84 to deal with the assignments and tasks of his ministry. 00:18:01.88\00:18:04.41 You see, he lived during the painful time 00:18:04.45\00:18:06.82 of the Babylonian captivity of Judah. 00:18:06.85\00:18:08.95 It was a situation that Israel had brought upon itself 00:18:08.98\00:18:12.22 by perpetually disregarding God's laws 00:18:12.25\00:18:15.06 and taking on the pagan customs and worship practices 00:18:15.09\00:18:18.43 of the neighboring kingdoms. 00:18:18.46\00:18:19.93 Hmmm... does that sound familiar? 00:18:19.96\00:18:22.63 Sounds like something that we do in this time too. 00:18:22.66\00:18:25.80 It had gotten to a place 00:18:25.83\00:18:28.07 where they were even sacrificing their children 00:18:28.10\00:18:31.37 in their worship of other gods. 00:18:31.41\00:18:33.41 YHWH had given them multiple chances to repent 00:18:33.44\00:18:36.95 and to turn back to Him but they wouldn't listen. 00:18:36.98\00:18:40.38 Now, before you shake your head at their disobedience, 00:18:40.42\00:18:43.39 what about yours? 00:18:43.42\00:18:44.75 How many times have you ignored the promptings 00:18:44.79\00:18:47.12 of the Holy Spirit and done your own thing? 00:18:47.16\00:18:49.82 I'm certainly guilty of that from time to time. 00:18:49.86\00:18:52.49 How many idols do we have in our own lives 00:18:52.53\00:18:55.16 that need to be discarded and replaced 00:18:55.20\00:18:57.63 by a focus on and a commitment to God? 00:18:57.70\00:19:00.10 Before we judge anyone else, 00:19:00.14\00:19:02.40 we really need to examine ourselves. 00:19:02.44\00:19:05.17 Despite the judgment that Israel faced, 00:19:05.21\00:19:07.81 the Lord promised restoration. 00:19:07.84\00:19:10.15 The children of Israel would be restored to their homeland 00:19:10.18\00:19:13.82 after 70 years of captivity. 00:19:13.85\00:19:15.88 The temple that was torn down during the Babylonian invasion 00:19:15.92\00:19:19.95 would be rebuilt 00:19:19.99\00:19:21.32 and God would dwell with His people once again. 00:19:21.36\00:19:23.66 The city would be called: YHWH Shammah... 00:19:23.69\00:19:28.33 the Lord is there. 00:19:28.36\00:19:30.23 There's only one place in the Bible 00:19:30.27\00:19:32.77 where YHWH-Shammah occurs and that is Ezekiel 48:35. 00:19:32.80\00:19:38.27 It's the very last verse in the book of Ezekiel. 00:19:38.31\00:19:41.94 In that text, the name YHWH-Shammah 00:19:42.01\00:19:44.85 is given to the city of Jerusalem. 00:19:44.88\00:19:47.68 This is also the last name or title of God 00:19:47.72\00:19:50.85 revealed to His Old Testament prophets. 00:19:50.89\00:19:53.96 The text teaches that the presence of YHWH... 00:19:53.99\00:19:58.09 the Self-Existent One... 00:19:58.13\00:19:59.66 the One whose name denotes a God who is ever revealing Himself 00:19:59.69\00:20:03.47 is ever present. 00:20:03.50\00:20:04.83 The word Shammah is derived from its root: Sham 00:20:04.87\00:20:08.90 which is translated as: there. 00:20:08.94\00:20:11.47 In other words, God is there 00:20:11.51\00:20:13.98 and just as God was sending a message of hope and restoration 00:20:14.01\00:20:17.51 to His people, so it is with us as individuals. 00:20:17.55\00:20:20.62 When we've moved away from God... 00:20:20.65\00:20:22.35 when we've placed idols in the position of our hearts 00:20:22.38\00:20:25.45 that only God should occupy... 00:20:25.49\00:20:27.09 when we've strayed away and see no way forward, 00:20:27.12\00:20:29.89 God can restore us. 00:20:29.92\00:20:31.63 The same message that he sent to Israel, 00:20:31.66\00:20:34.46 He gives to us today. 00:20:34.50\00:20:36.10 "For I will take you from among the nations, 00:20:36.13\00:20:39.83 gather you out of all countries, 00:20:39.90\00:20:42.14 and bring you into your own land. 00:20:42.17\00:20:44.34 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, 00:20:44.37\00:20:46.88 and you shall be clean; 00:20:46.91\00:20:48.24 I will cleanse you from all your filthiness 00:20:48.28\00:20:50.71 and from your idols. 00:20:50.75\00:20:52.08 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; 00:20:52.11\00:20:55.45 I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh 00:20:55.48\00:20:59.69 and give you a heart of flesh. " Ezekiel 36:24-26. 00:20:59.72\00:21:05.36 YHWH-Shammah proved Himself to Jaime many times over. 00:21:05.39\00:21:10.97 Jaime was born in Colombia 00:21:11.00\00:21:13.40 and brought up in a very secular environment. 00:21:13.44\00:21:16.00 His father was an alcoholic 00:21:16.04\00:21:17.97 and wanted Jaime to be just like him. 00:21:18.01\00:21:19.71 He was very proud that Jaime was drinking at 9 years of age 00:21:19.74\00:21:23.78 and bragged about it to his friends. 00:21:23.81\00:21:25.58 As Jaime got older, he was drawn into gangs 00:21:25.61\00:21:28.72 with all of the drinking and the violence 00:21:28.75\00:21:30.52 that goes along with it. 00:21:30.55\00:21:31.89 He was in and out of Juvenile Detention Centers 00:21:31.92\00:21:34.62 and by the time he was 16, 00:21:34.66\00:21:36.19 he felt that he'd had enough of that life. 00:21:36.22\00:21:38.43 He decided to leave Colombia and go to the United States. 00:21:38.46\00:21:42.03 Here in the States, Jaime worked 00:21:42.06\00:21:44.37 but developed relationships with young people 00:21:44.40\00:21:48.20 who were all involved in the drug world. 00:21:48.24\00:21:50.37 So, after two years of trying to stay outside of that world, 00:21:50.41\00:21:54.34 Jaime found himself drawn into it. 00:21:54.38\00:21:56.71 His first paid assignment 00:21:56.75\00:21:58.55 was to smuggle money from the US into Colombia 00:21:58.58\00:22:01.05 and then he was offered the job 00:22:01.08\00:22:02.78 of killing some high-level drug dealers 00:22:02.82\00:22:05.05 but he refused that job 00:22:05.09\00:22:06.72 but decided to set up his own drug distribution network. 00:22:06.76\00:22:10.56 He built a chain of distribution from Texas to New York, 00:22:10.63\00:22:14.40 Miami, Dallas and Colombia. 00:22:14.43\00:22:16.97 In fact, at his peak in that world, 00:22:17.00\00:22:19.43 Jaime was Dallas' number one drug dealer 00:22:19.47\00:22:22.37 and then one day, things changed. 00:22:22.40\00:22:24.71 He got arrested. 00:22:24.74\00:22:26.07 While he was in jail, he made a decision... 00:22:26.11\00:22:28.61 he thought: as soon as I get out, 00:22:28.64\00:22:30.51 I'm going to shut down everything 00:22:30.55\00:22:32.31 and never do this again... it's just not worth it. 00:22:32.35\00:22:34.38 So, that's what he did. 00:22:34.45\00:22:36.55 Only one week later, 00:22:36.58\00:22:38.59 Jaime was released on a technicality 00:22:38.65\00:22:40.76 and he totally left the drug world. 00:22:40.79\00:22:42.82 He became a car salesman and was pretty successful at it. 00:22:42.86\00:22:46.29 One night, he went over to his boss' house 00:22:46.33\00:22:49.00 where they were drinking 00:22:49.03\00:22:50.43 and Jaime left and headed home drunk 00:22:50.47\00:22:52.63 but he never made it home. 00:22:52.70\00:22:54.40 He fell asleep and slammed into a tree 00:22:54.47\00:22:57.04 where he was knocked unconscious. 00:22:57.07\00:22:58.41 The next morning a policeman approached his car... 00:22:58.44\00:23:01.51 told him to roll down the window and asked for his ID. 00:23:01.54\00:23:04.58 Jaime obliged him and sat in his vehicle 00:23:04.61\00:23:06.85 while the policeman returned to his. 00:23:06.88\00:23:09.02 Jaime waited for several minutes 00:23:09.05\00:23:11.09 and then two, four, six, eight, ten police cars came 00:23:11.12\00:23:14.76 and surrounded his. 00:23:14.79\00:23:16.19 What was happening? Jaime wondered. 00:23:16.22\00:23:18.69 The policeman came back to his car and said, 00:23:18.73\00:23:21.33 "We've been looking for you for about a year now... 00:23:21.36\00:23:24.00 there's a warrant for your arrest. " 00:23:24.03\00:23:25.67 Jaime told himself that there must have been some mistake. 00:23:25.70\00:23:29.20 What he didn't know was that while he was incarcerated, 00:23:29.24\00:23:32.71 they had re-opened his case... 00:23:32.77\00:23:34.58 he was now in serious trouble. 00:23:34.61\00:23:36.38 Jaime was arrested that day and sent to jail 00:23:36.41\00:23:39.21 awaiting extradition from Miami 00:23:39.25\00:23:41.18 where he lived at that time... to Texas. 00:23:41.22\00:23:43.18 Previously, when anyone had tried to talk to Jaime 00:23:43.22\00:23:46.79 about the Lord, he wasn't interested. 00:23:46.86\00:23:49.19 He had absolutely no interest in hearing about God 00:23:49.22\00:23:52.93 but this time... this time while incarcerated, 00:23:52.99\00:23:56.30 he found a Bible in Spanish and began to read it. 00:23:56.33\00:23:59.63 He couldn't understand any of it 00:23:59.67\00:24:01.67 and although he couldn't understand it, 00:24:01.70\00:24:03.87 he continued to read it. 00:24:03.91\00:24:05.41 One night while sleeping... by his own words... 00:24:05.44\00:24:08.54 he said, "Something strong came to me. " 00:24:08.58\00:24:11.38 It was a feeling of joy and peace 00:24:11.41\00:24:13.95 like I've never had before. " 00:24:13.98\00:24:16.02 Jaime knelt down and began to pray. 00:24:16.05\00:24:18.85 He opened his heart to the Lord. 00:24:18.89\00:24:21.66 This went on until daylight 00:24:21.69\00:24:23.76 and the next day Jaime read his Bible 00:24:23.79\00:24:26.09 and it was as though a light switch had gone on. 00:24:26.13\00:24:28.23 He understood what he was reading. 00:24:28.26\00:24:30.47 He learned about the beautiful plan of salvation 00:24:30.50\00:24:33.47 and found that if he confessed his sins 00:24:33.50\00:24:35.74 and came repentantly to the Lord, 00:24:35.77\00:24:38.77 He would forgive him and give him eternal life. 00:24:38.81\00:24:41.58 Jaime was so excited about this 00:24:41.61\00:24:44.38 that he began to share this good news with other inmates 00:24:44.41\00:24:47.08 and his family. 00:24:47.12\00:24:48.45 He talked about Jesus to anyone who would listen. 00:24:48.48\00:24:51.69 He now had hope and strength from the Word of God... 00:24:51.72\00:24:54.62 what a blessing... 00:24:54.66\00:24:56.02 Jaime was extradited to Texas via Oklahoma 00:24:56.06\00:25:00.40 and on the day that he was to leave Miami to go to Oklahoma, 00:25:00.43\00:25:03.77 he had his Bible in his hand preparing to leave the prison. 00:25:03.80\00:25:07.54 The guard told him that he was not allowed to remove that Bible 00:25:07.57\00:25:10.71 and take it with him. 00:25:10.74\00:25:12.14 To Jaime, it was like taking off his arm. 00:25:12.17\00:25:14.94 What would he do without it? It was his lifeline. 00:25:15.01\00:25:17.61 He practically begged the guard to let him take the book 00:25:17.65\00:25:20.65 but the guard flatly denied every plea. 00:25:20.72\00:25:23.28 Reluctantly, Jaime left his Bible there. 00:25:23.32\00:25:25.85 It was late at night when he arrived at the Facility 00:25:25.89\00:25:29.09 in Oklahoma. 00:25:29.12\00:25:30.46 Lights were out in the surrounding cells. 00:25:30.49\00:25:33.09 No one was in the corridor. 00:25:33.13\00:25:35.10 The Correction Officer 00:25:35.13\00:25:38.13 that secured Jaime in his cell had left. 00:25:38.17\00:25:42.50 While looking the cell over, 00:25:42.54\00:25:46.01 Jaime saw a black man standing outside of his cell. 00:25:46.04\00:25:51.71 This was strange 00:25:51.78\00:25:53.55 because there had been no other person in the hallway 00:25:53.62\00:25:56.28 except the guard that had escorted him to his cell. 00:25:56.32\00:25:58.99 It was very late 00:25:59.02\00:26:00.36 and the inmates in the surrounding areas were asleep. 00:26:00.39\00:26:02.96 The man asked Jaime, 00:26:02.99\00:26:04.33 "Hey, would you like to have a Spanish Bible?" 00:26:04.36\00:26:06.93 Jaime couldn't believe it... 00:26:06.96\00:26:08.63 he gratefully reached through the bars and took the Bible. 00:26:08.66\00:26:11.43 He looked at it and when he looked up to thank the man, 00:26:11.50\00:26:14.24 he disappeared. 00:26:14.27\00:26:15.60 Jaime believes that that was an angel. 00:26:15.64\00:26:18.07 What a miracle! 00:26:18.11\00:26:19.61 Jaime was moved from floor to floor in the Oklahoma Facility 00:26:19.64\00:26:23.48 and shared Jesus with other inmates. 00:26:23.51\00:26:25.28 Jaime's Sentence was supposed to be 39 years in prison 00:26:25.31\00:26:31.59 but his attorney got him out. 00:26:31.62\00:26:34.32 Jaime knows that it was his Divine Attorney... his Savior... 00:26:34.36\00:26:38.36 his YHWH-Shammah who was right there and delivered him. 00:26:38.39\00:26:42.43 YHWH-Shammah was always there with Jaime. 00:26:42.46\00:26:46.00 When Jaime was in the gangs...
