Hello, I'm Jill Morikone. 00:00:04.63\00:00:05.97 Welcome to the Adventist Virtual Global Camp Meeting. 00:00:06.00\00:00:08.84 This seminar is entitled, Restored Relationship. 00:00:08.87\00:00:12.71 And it's divided up into three sections. 00:00:12.74\00:00:14.68 The first is the calling. 00:00:14.71\00:00:16.28 Do you feel that God has called you 00:00:16.31\00:00:18.85 into relationship with Him? 00:00:18.88\00:00:20.72 Do you desire to serve Him? 00:00:20.75\00:00:22.08 Do you want to follow Him? 00:00:22.12\00:00:24.35 The middle section is the wandering. 00:00:24.39\00:00:27.06 Do you feel that you have wandered 00:00:27.09\00:00:28.86 far from God? 00:00:28.89\00:00:30.33 Do you want to come home? 00:00:30.36\00:00:31.69 But you're afraid that He would see the filth 00:00:31.73\00:00:34.40 that is covering you. 00:00:34.43\00:00:35.86 The final section is my favorite. 00:00:35.90\00:00:37.63 That is the renewing. 00:00:37.67\00:00:40.17 Do you want a fresh start? 00:00:40.20\00:00:41.64 Do you want to come home? 00:00:41.67\00:00:43.94 Do you want that first love experience 00:00:43.97\00:00:47.08 with Jesus renewed? 00:00:47.11\00:00:48.44 Then this seminar is for you. 00:00:48.48\00:00:50.25 Let's pray. 00:00:50.28\00:00:51.61 Holy Father, this is Your time. 00:00:51.65\00:00:53.42 We come before You in the name of Jesus, 00:00:53.45\00:00:55.18 asking for the anointing of Your Holy Spirit, 00:00:55.22\00:00:58.05 that Your Word would come alive 00:00:58.09\00:01:00.46 and You would speak to us 00:01:00.49\00:01:01.82 and show us a clear picture of Jesus. 00:01:01.86\00:01:05.89 In the precious and holy name of Jesus I pray. 00:01:05.93\00:01:08.60 Amen. 00:01:08.63\00:01:10.20 It was probably 12 years ago 00:01:10.23\00:01:14.47 and I was going on a walk, 00:01:14.50\00:01:15.84 which is a normal thing for me down our gravel road. 00:01:15.87\00:01:18.97 And there's a little country church 00:01:19.01\00:01:20.98 around the corner. 00:01:21.01\00:01:22.34 And all of a sudden I heard meow, meow 00:01:22.38\00:01:25.41 coming from the bushes and here was the scrawniest 00:01:25.45\00:01:28.58 little cat you can imagine. 00:01:28.62\00:01:30.55 Tiny gray. 00:01:30.59\00:01:32.52 Her fur was matted. 00:01:32.55\00:01:34.22 She had fleas. 00:01:34.26\00:01:35.59 She was infested with worms and she was starving. 00:01:35.62\00:01:38.93 And she came up to me and she rubbed against my ankle 00:01:38.96\00:01:42.50 and she followed me all the way home. 00:01:42.53\00:01:44.47 And we got home and I walked in the house 00:01:44.50\00:01:46.10 and I told Greg, 00:01:46.13\00:01:47.47 that's our cat. 00:01:47.50\00:01:48.84 She's going to be ours. 00:01:48.87\00:01:50.21 Why? 00:01:50.24\00:01:51.57 Because I want her. 00:01:51.61\00:01:53.78 And Greg tells her to this day. 00:01:53.81\00:01:55.14 We've had her about 12 years and he tells her to this day, 00:01:55.18\00:01:58.91 your mom chose you. 00:01:58.95\00:02:00.78 It reminds me of John 15:16. 00:02:00.82\00:02:04.29 Let's look at that. John 15:16. 00:02:04.32\00:02:06.55 This is Jesus speaking to His disciples 00:02:06.59\00:02:09.36 and to you and I down through the stream of time, 00:02:09.39\00:02:11.69 right before He went to the cross. 00:02:11.73\00:02:14.06 John 15:16, 00:02:14.10\00:02:15.83 "You did not choose Me, 00:02:15.86\00:02:17.33 but I chose you and ordained you 00:02:17.37\00:02:21.14 that you should go and bring forth fruit, 00:02:21.17\00:02:23.64 and that your fruit should remain." 00:02:23.67\00:02:26.01 Did you catch that? 00:02:26.04\00:02:27.38 We didn't choose God. 00:02:27.41\00:02:28.74 He reached out and He chose us. 00:02:28.78\00:02:32.71 Why did God choose the nature, 00:02:32.75\00:02:35.52 the children of Israel? 00:02:35.55\00:02:37.65 Why did He choose them? 00:02:37.69\00:02:39.02 Deuteronomy 7:6, 00:02:39.05\00:02:44.53 "For you are a holy people to the Lord your God, 00:02:44.56\00:02:47.96 the Lord your God has chosen you 00:02:48.00\00:02:51.03 to be a people for Himself, 00:02:51.07\00:02:52.77 a special treasure above all the peoples 00:02:52.80\00:02:55.47 on the face of the earth. 00:02:55.50\00:02:57.61 Why was Israel chosen? 00:02:57.64\00:02:59.04 Were they chosen because they were stronger 00:02:59.07\00:03:00.64 than the other nations? 00:03:00.68\00:03:02.01 Were they richer than the other nations? 00:03:02.04\00:03:03.85 Were they more good looking or more talented? 00:03:03.88\00:03:07.05 Did they run in better social circles? 00:03:07.08\00:03:09.45 Maybe they obeyed better. 00:03:09.48\00:03:12.29 No, none of those reasons. 00:03:12.32\00:03:14.49 Read the next verse. 00:03:14.52\00:03:15.86 "The Lord did not set His love on you, 00:03:15.89\00:03:17.83 nor did He choose you 00:03:17.86\00:03:19.26 because you were more in number than all the other people, 00:03:19.29\00:03:22.93 for you were the least of all the peoples." 00:03:22.96\00:03:26.33 Why did He choose them? 00:03:26.37\00:03:27.70 "But because the Lord loves you, 00:03:27.74\00:03:31.57 and because He would keep the oath 00:03:31.61\00:03:33.58 which he swore to your fathers, 00:03:33.61\00:03:35.94 the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand 00:03:35.98\00:03:38.51 and redeemed you from the house of bondage, 00:03:38.55\00:03:40.92 from the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt." 00:03:40.95\00:03:43.02 Did you catch that? 00:03:43.05\00:03:44.39 Why was the nation of Israel chosen 00:03:44.42\00:03:46.76 to be more special than any other people 00:03:46.79\00:03:50.09 on the face of the earth? 00:03:50.13\00:03:51.89 Simple, because the Lord loved them. 00:03:51.93\00:03:56.10 And because He remembered His covenant 00:03:56.13\00:03:58.67 with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, 00:03:58.70\00:04:01.20 and that He would bring them out from Egypt 00:04:01.24\00:04:04.57 and make them a people for Himself. 00:04:04.61\00:04:08.34 You see, God delights 00:04:08.38\00:04:09.88 in taking what other people cast aside. 00:04:09.91\00:04:14.25 Let's look at Ezekiel. 00:04:14.28\00:04:15.62 I don't often spend time 00:04:15.65\00:04:17.15 studying in the Book of Ezekiel, 00:04:17.19\00:04:18.69 but I really liked this passage. 00:04:18.72\00:04:20.26 Ezekiel Chapter 16. 00:04:20.29\00:04:21.92 We're going to pick it up in verse 3. 00:04:21.96\00:04:24.13 We're looking at why God chose the nation of Israel 00:04:24.16\00:04:27.10 and by extension, 00:04:27.13\00:04:28.60 why He wants you and I. 00:04:28.63\00:04:31.00 Ezekiel 16:3, 00:04:31.03\00:04:33.70 "Thus says the Lord God to Jerusalem: 00:04:33.74\00:04:36.77 'Your birth and your nativity are from the land of Canaan, 00:04:36.81\00:04:40.24 your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite. 00:04:40.28\00:04:43.11 As for your nativity, 00:04:43.14\00:04:45.61 on the day you were born your navel cord was not cut, 00:04:45.65\00:04:49.75 nor were you washed in water to cleanse you, 00:04:49.78\00:04:52.32 you were not rubbed with salt 00:04:52.35\00:04:54.52 nor wrapped in swaddling cloths. 00:04:54.56\00:04:57.13 No eye pitied you, 00:04:57.16\00:04:59.66 to do any of these things for you, 00:04:59.69\00:05:01.33 to have compassion on you, 00:05:01.36\00:05:03.20 but you were thrown out into the open field, 00:05:03.23\00:05:07.17 when you yourself were loathed 00:05:07.20\00:05:10.07 on the day you were born." 00:05:10.11\00:05:11.61 Now that word loathed in Hebrew 00:05:11.64\00:05:13.81 means something that's hated. 00:05:13.84\00:05:15.61 Why? 00:05:15.64\00:05:16.98 Because it is unclean. 00:05:17.01\00:05:19.61 So what is God saying here? 00:05:19.65\00:05:21.38 Cod is saying that Israel was not a wanted child. 00:05:21.42\00:05:24.89 None of the usual birthing rights 00:05:24.92\00:05:28.36 were observed. 00:05:28.39\00:05:29.72 The umbilical cord wasn't cut 00:05:29.76\00:05:31.36 and you always do that when the baby's born. 00:05:31.39\00:05:33.16 The baby wasn't washed with water. 00:05:33.19\00:05:35.23 It was not rubbed with salt. 00:05:35.26\00:05:36.90 It was not even clothed. 00:05:36.93\00:05:39.07 It was not looked on with compassion. 00:05:39.10\00:05:41.87 It was thrown out into the open field. 00:05:41.90\00:05:45.71 Verse 6, we're in Ezekiel 16:6, 00:05:45.74\00:05:49.11 "When I passed by you, 00:05:49.14\00:05:51.25 I saw you struggling in your own blood." 00:05:51.28\00:05:54.25 So, God passed by and saw 00:05:54.28\00:05:55.95 the nation of Israel, the children. 00:05:55.98\00:05:57.99 He saw you and I struggling in our junk, 00:05:58.02\00:06:01.22 in our sin. 00:06:01.26\00:06:02.59 And I said to you live, 00:06:02.62\00:06:05.16 yes, I said to you in your blood, 00:06:05.19\00:06:07.63 live. 00:06:07.66\00:06:09.00 Why is that? 00:06:09.03\00:06:10.37 God delights in taking what other people 00:06:10.40\00:06:14.37 have cast aside. 00:06:14.40\00:06:16.00 The next verse Ezekiel 16:7, 00:06:16.04\00:06:19.04 "I made you thrive like a plant in the field 00:06:19.07\00:06:21.94 and you grew mature and became very beautiful." 00:06:21.98\00:06:24.15 So Israel, the unwanted child that nobody wanted, 00:06:24.18\00:06:27.68 grew up and became beautiful. 00:06:27.72\00:06:30.09 Verse 8, 00:06:30.12\00:06:31.45 "When I passed by you again and looked upon you, 00:06:31.49\00:06:33.89 indeed your time was the time of love. 00:06:33.92\00:06:35.89 So, I spread my wing over you 00:06:35.92\00:06:38.83 and covered your nakedness." 00:06:38.86\00:06:40.50 This is symbolic. 00:06:40.53\00:06:41.86 You think of Boaz and Ruth and spreading the skirt. 00:06:41.90\00:06:44.73 This is a marriage proposal. 00:06:44.77\00:06:46.10 God says the child that nobody wanted, 00:06:46.13\00:06:48.44 the child that was thrown out in the open field, 00:06:48.47\00:06:51.91 He wanted, 00:06:51.94\00:06:53.54 He wants to marry. 00:06:53.58\00:06:54.91 Yes. 00:06:54.94\00:06:56.28 I swore an oath to you 00:06:56.31\00:06:57.65 and entered into covenant with you. 00:06:57.68\00:06:59.11 And you became mine says the Lord, God. 00:06:59.15\00:07:02.22 Now you and I as spiritual Israel, 00:07:02.25\00:07:04.29 Paul talks about this very clearly 00:07:04.32\00:07:06.12 in Galatians Chapter 3. 00:07:06.15\00:07:07.89 Galatians 3:26-29, 00:07:07.92\00:07:10.46 "You are all sons 00:07:10.49\00:07:12.09 and daughters of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 00:07:12.13\00:07:15.73 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ 00:07:15.76\00:07:18.63 have put on Christ. 00:07:18.67\00:07:20.30 There's neither Jew nor Greek, 00:07:20.34\00:07:22.24 there's neither male nor female, 00:07:22.27\00:07:24.31 there's neither slave nor free, 00:07:24.34\00:07:26.17 for we are all one in Christ Jesus. 00:07:26.21\00:07:29.58 And if you are of Christ's, then you are heirs 00:07:29.61\00:07:33.55 according to the promise, heirs of Abraham's seed 00:07:33.58\00:07:36.75 and heirs according to the promise." 00:07:36.79\00:07:39.52 You see the promises given to Israel 00:07:39.55\00:07:41.19 are now extended to us. 00:07:41.22\00:07:43.36 The covenant given to Israel 00:07:43.39\00:07:44.99 is now extended to us. 00:07:45.03\00:07:47.33 The marriage offered to Israel 00:07:47.36\00:07:49.63 to be married to the Lord Jesus Christ 00:07:49.66\00:07:51.50 is now extended to us. 00:07:51.53\00:07:53.74 We are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. 00:07:53.77\00:07:57.71 Why did God call us? 00:07:57.74\00:07:59.07 Because we're strong, because we were good looking, 00:07:59.11\00:08:01.21 because we thought we were rich 00:08:01.24\00:08:02.58 or intellectual or gifted, 00:08:02.61\00:08:04.78 or we could somehow walk in obedience. 00:08:04.81\00:08:07.98 No, 00:08:08.02\00:08:09.35 He called us because He loves us. 00:08:09.38\00:08:12.52 For God so loved the world 00:08:12.55\00:08:13.89 that He gave His only begotten Son 00:08:13.92\00:08:16.22 that whoever believes in Him would not perish, 00:08:16.26\00:08:19.79 but would have everlasting life. 00:08:19.83\00:08:22.66 God delights in taking what other people 00:08:22.70\00:08:26.30 have cast aside. 00:08:26.33\00:08:27.74 Do you feel thrown out? 00:08:27.77\00:08:29.90 Do you feel unwanted, unloved, 00:08:29.94\00:08:32.57 unredeemable, unreachable? 00:08:32.61\00:08:35.58 He looks at you and I, 00:08:35.61\00:08:37.01 thrown out in the open field and he says, 00:08:37.05\00:08:39.85 live. 00:08:39.88\00:08:41.22 I want you as My child. 00:08:41.25\00:08:43.95 And not only does He want us, 00:08:43.99\00:08:45.35 but He equips and prepares 00:08:45.39\00:08:47.56 those whom He has chosen. 00:08:47.59\00:08:49.99 We're going back to Ezekiel Chapter 16. 00:08:50.03\00:08:52.33 And we're going to continue with the story 00:08:52.36\00:08:54.36 of the unwanted baby 00:08:54.40\00:08:55.73 that grew up and that God married. 00:08:55.76\00:08:57.90 We are in Ezekiel 16:9. 00:08:57.93\00:09:00.57 I washed you in water. 00:09:00.60\00:09:02.20 That reminds me of the washing of the water of the word. 00:09:02.24\00:09:05.27 What is God saying? 00:09:05.31\00:09:06.64 I gave you My Word. 00:09:06.68\00:09:09.11 "I washed you in water. 00:09:09.14\00:09:10.68 I thoroughly washed off your blood 00:09:10.71\00:09:12.18 and anointed you with oil." 00:09:12.21\00:09:14.62 He gives us the gift of His Holy Spirit. 00:09:14.65\00:09:17.85 Not only do we have the gift of His Word, 00:09:17.89\00:09:20.06 we have the gift of His Holy Spirit. 00:09:20.09\00:09:22.39 "I clothed you in embroidered cloth 00:09:22.42\00:09:25.43 and gave you sandals of badger skin. 00:09:25.46\00:09:27.66 I clothed you with fine linen 00:09:27.70\00:09:29.76 and covered you with silk." 00:09:29.80\00:09:31.67 You were," verse 13, 00:09:31.70\00:09:33.40 "exceedingly beautiful 00:09:33.44\00:09:35.94 and succeeded to royalty." 00:09:35.97\00:09:37.97 So what does God do? 00:09:38.01\00:09:39.47 First of all, He gives us His Word. 00:09:39.51\00:09:41.68 Second, He gives us the gift of His Holy Spirit. 00:09:41.71\00:09:45.08 Third, He says, I'm going to clothe you 00:09:45.11\00:09:48.08 or cover you 00:09:48.12\00:09:49.78 with My righteous white robe. 00:09:49.82\00:09:52.72 It reminds me 00:09:52.75\00:09:54.09 in Zachariah Chapter 3, remember Joshua, 00:09:54.12\00:09:56.69 the high priest is standing 00:09:56.73\00:09:59.09 before the angel of the Lord 00:09:59.13\00:10:00.46 and he's covered in filthy garments. 00:10:00.50\00:10:03.06 He's dirty, he's defiled. 00:10:03.10\00:10:05.03 He's sinful. 00:10:05.07\00:10:06.40 And yet God comes 00:10:06.43\00:10:08.70 and takes off those dirty garments 00:10:08.74\00:10:11.64 and clothes him with Christ's righteousness, 00:10:11.67\00:10:15.71 His perfect robe. 00:10:15.74\00:10:17.21 Not only that, it says 00:10:17.25\00:10:19.21 they succeeded to royalty. 00:10:19.25\00:10:20.88 Did you catch that? 00:10:20.92\00:10:22.25 You were exceedingly beautiful and succeeded to royalty. 00:10:22.28\00:10:24.35 It reminds me of 1 Peter 2:9, 00:10:24.39\00:10:26.82 "You and I are a chosen generation, 00:10:26.86\00:10:28.56 a royal priesthood, 00:10:28.59\00:10:30.39 a holy nation." 00:10:30.43\00:10:31.76 And why is that? 00:10:31.79\00:10:33.13 That we could proclaim the praises of Him 00:10:33.16\00:10:35.26 who called us out of darkness 00:10:35.30\00:10:36.90 into this marvelous light. 00:10:36.93\00:10:40.07 Now, if we stopped there, 00:10:40.10\00:10:41.44 the story would be fabulous. 00:10:41.47\00:10:42.80 You and I unwanted, unloved, 00:10:42.84\00:10:44.87 thrown out in the open field 00:10:44.91\00:10:46.51 in our own sins and junk. 00:10:46.54\00:10:49.24 God looked at us and said, live. 00:10:49.28\00:10:51.18 I want you as My child. 00:10:51.21\00:10:54.42 I will marry you. 00:10:54.45\00:10:55.98 I will change you. 00:10:56.02\00:10:57.35 I will give you My Word. 00:10:57.39\00:10:58.75 I will anoint you with My Holy Spirit. 00:10:58.79\00:11:01.86 I will give you My righteousness. 00:11:01.89\00:11:04.19 Everything you need to walk in Me and to be a Christian, 00:11:04.23\00:11:08.43 but it doesn't stop there. 00:11:08.46\00:11:09.83 Now we come to the middle section, 00:11:09.86\00:11:11.60 which is the wandering. 00:11:11.63\00:11:14.50 We are in Ezekiel 16 still. 00:11:14.54\00:11:16.34 Picking it up verse 13, you were beautiful. 00:11:16.37\00:11:18.71 We just read that, and succeeded to royalty. 00:11:18.74\00:11:21.54 Verse 14, 00:11:21.58\00:11:22.91 "Your fame went out among the nations 00:11:22.94\00:11:24.78 because of your beauty, 00:11:24.81\00:11:26.15 for it was perfect through My splendor." 00:11:26.18\00:11:29.65 So, why are we perfect? 00:11:29.68\00:11:31.75 Through God's splendor which I bestowed on you, 00:11:31.79\00:11:34.52 says the Lord God. 00:11:34.56\00:11:35.89 Verse 15, 00:11:35.92\00:11:37.26 but, there's a little word right there, 00:11:37.29\00:11:39.46 "But, you trusted in your own beauty, 00:11:39.49\00:11:44.17 you played the harlot because of your fame. 00:11:44.20\00:11:48.04 You poured out your harlotry 00:11:48.07\00:11:50.91 on everyone passing by who would have it." 00:11:50.94\00:11:53.64 Why did they walk away from God? 00:11:53.68\00:11:55.54 They trusted in their own beauty. 00:11:55.58\00:11:58.21 What does that mean? 00:11:58.25\00:11:59.58 They became proud in who they were. 00:11:59.61\00:12:01.92 We're the chosen people of God. 00:12:01.95\00:12:03.39 We got it together. 00:12:03.42\00:12:04.75 These other nations, they have some problems, 00:12:04.79\00:12:06.79 but we are the chosen people of God. 00:12:06.82\00:12:11.13 Why did they walk away from God? 00:12:11.16\00:12:13.03 Because they were proud of what 00:12:13.06\00:12:14.63 God had given to them. 00:12:14.66\00:12:16.97 Their fame went to their head 00:12:17.00\00:12:19.20 and they forgot that God's the one 00:12:19.23\00:12:20.87 who gave the beauty. 00:12:20.90\00:12:22.24 God's the one who called them as His special people. 00:12:22.27\00:12:24.67 God's the one who gave the fame. 00:12:24.71\00:12:26.41 And the purpose of all of that 00:12:26.44\00:12:28.04 was to point back to God. 00:12:28.08\00:12:32.65 Never think that we are special 00:12:32.68\00:12:36.22 as Seventh-day Adventist Christians. 00:12:36.25\00:12:39.52 Because we think somehow 00:12:39.55\00:12:41.99 we have a corner or a monopoly on truth. 00:12:42.02\00:12:45.76 Because the truth in the Word of God 00:12:45.79\00:12:48.16 that is extended to everyone. 00:12:48.20\00:12:50.50 Never think that we are special 00:12:50.53\00:12:52.43 because we were somehow chosen by God 00:12:52.47\00:12:55.60 because the call 00:12:55.64\00:12:56.97 to be God's child is extended to the entire world. 00:12:57.01\00:13:01.11 Never think that we are special 00:13:01.14\00:13:03.98 because we were somehow wanted by God. 00:13:04.01\00:13:07.78 God calls and wants everyone. 00:13:07.82\00:13:11.42 Turn with me to the Book of Hosea. 00:13:11.45\00:13:13.96 Hosea is an amazing book 00:13:13.99\00:13:15.32 and we don't really have time to unpack it, 00:13:15.36\00:13:17.63 but it's an object lesson. 00:13:17.66\00:13:20.46 God told the Prophet Hosea 00:13:20.50\00:13:22.53 to go marry a woman of harlotry. 00:13:22.56\00:13:25.17 He was supposed to marry Gomer. 00:13:25.20\00:13:27.40 And if I had been in his shoes, 00:13:27.44\00:13:28.97 I would not have wanted to do that. 00:13:29.00\00:13:31.77 Why God 00:13:31.81\00:13:33.14 do You want me to marry this woman 00:13:33.17\00:13:34.74 who's going to be unfaithful to me? 00:13:34.78\00:13:36.68 But it was a sym... 00:13:36.71\00:13:38.15 It was symbolic to represent 00:13:38.18\00:13:41.35 that the nation of Israel 00:13:41.38\00:13:43.45 had turned their back on God. 00:13:43.49\00:13:45.95 They had forsaken their husband who's God. 00:13:45.99\00:13:49.36 And they had followed after other idols. 00:13:49.39\00:13:52.13 In fact, Hosea is the last prophet 00:13:52.16\00:13:53.86 to the Northern kingdom of Israel before they fell. 00:13:53.90\00:13:56.26 Now, remember, Israel had split 00:13:56.30\00:13:58.23 after Solomon into the north and the south. 00:13:58.27\00:14:01.34 The Southern kingdom was later taken into captivity, 00:14:01.37\00:14:03.91 into Babylon and they returned, 00:14:03.94\00:14:05.94 but the Northern kingdom, they were taken away 00:14:05.97\00:14:07.91 by the nation of Assyria. 00:14:07.94\00:14:10.61 They never came back. 00:14:10.65\00:14:12.08 Those people were lost forever. 00:14:12.11\00:14:13.98 They were dispersed or settled 00:14:14.02\00:14:16.22 amongst the Assyrians. 00:14:16.25\00:14:18.05 It was a time of spiritual bankruptcy 00:14:18.09\00:14:19.75 when Hosea was prophesying. 00:14:19.79\00:14:21.62 It was a time of idol worship. 00:14:21.66\00:14:24.19 It was a time of child sacrifice. 00:14:24.23\00:14:26.56 These people, the chosen people off God 00:14:26.59\00:14:29.43 had degenerated in their worship 00:14:29.46\00:14:31.90 that they no longer not only worshiped God, 00:14:31.93\00:14:34.30 they offered their children 00:14:34.34\00:14:36.47 as sacrifices to heathen idols and heathen gods. 00:14:36.50\00:14:41.18 Injustice and oppression, it was very common. 00:14:41.21\00:14:43.35 In fact, no commandment of God 00:14:43.38\00:14:45.35 was kept by the people. 00:14:45.38\00:14:47.92 The unwanted child. 00:14:47.95\00:14:49.28 Remember the child in Ezekiel 16 00:14:49.32\00:14:50.69 that was thrown out in the open field. 00:14:50.72\00:14:52.62 That unwanted child 00:14:52.65\00:14:54.32 that grew up that God wanted. 00:14:54.36\00:14:56.09 They decided 00:14:56.12\00:14:57.46 they no longer wanted their God. 00:14:57.49\00:15:01.03 And we see in Hosea, this theme, 00:15:01.06\00:15:04.30 the anguish of steadfast love. 00:15:04.33\00:15:07.34 You see if love is temporary, 00:15:07.37\00:15:09.07 if love is fickle, it doesn't hurt that much 00:15:09.10\00:15:11.61 because if your love is not returned. 00:15:11.64\00:15:13.71 Well, you just say fine, I'll go seek another object 00:15:13.74\00:15:15.78 and I'll love something else. 00:15:15.81\00:15:17.81 However, if love is steadfast, 00:15:17.85\00:15:21.78 rejection and unfaithfulness cause 00:15:21.82\00:15:25.12 great anguish. 00:15:25.15\00:15:27.29 Love goes on even when the object of that love 00:15:27.32\00:15:30.26 no longer cares. 00:15:30.29\00:15:32.23 Tremendous suffering results. 00:15:32.26\00:15:34.46 So you see the heart of God, 00:15:34.50\00:15:36.83 our Father hurts tremendously because He could have said, 00:15:36.87\00:15:40.77 well, I'll just choose another people. 00:15:40.80\00:15:42.30 Well, I don't really need Dick, Tom, Harry and Joan, 00:15:42.34\00:15:45.57 I'm going to find someone else. 00:15:45.61\00:15:47.28 No, He wants you. 00:15:47.31\00:15:50.05 So His heart is hurt 00:15:50.08\00:15:53.05 when we reject Him. 00:15:53.08\00:15:54.42 And that's what was going on with this nation of Israel. 00:15:54.45\00:15:58.69 So we see that Hosea, 00:15:58.72\00:16:00.26 he marries Gomer 00:16:00.29\00:16:01.62 and they have three children together. 00:16:01.66\00:16:03.32 And then Gomer, she runs off, 00:16:03.36\00:16:04.99 which is what she was prone to do. 00:16:05.03\00:16:07.40 She followed after other lovers, 00:16:07.43\00:16:09.96 which is symbolic 00:16:10.00\00:16:11.33 of the nation of Israel or you and I 00:16:11.37\00:16:13.60 following after other idols. 00:16:13.64\00:16:17.11 In fact, we see this in Hosea 2:2, 00:16:17.14\00:16:21.08 "Bring charges against your mother, 00:16:21.11\00:16:22.84 bring charges for she is not my wife, 00:16:22.88\00:16:25.25 nor am I her husband. 00:16:25.28\00:16:26.72 Let her put away her harlotries from her sight." 00:16:26.75\00:16:29.68 Verse 4, 00:16:29.72\00:16:31.05 "I will not have mercy on her children 00:16:31.09\00:16:33.09 for they are the children of harlotry, 00:16:33.12\00:16:34.99 for their mother has played the harlot. 00:16:35.02\00:16:37.69 She who conceived them has behaved shamefully. 00:16:37.73\00:16:40.53 For she said, I will go after my lovers 00:16:40.56\00:16:43.10 who give me my bread and my water, 00:16:43.13\00:16:44.73 my wool and my linen, 00:16:44.77\00:16:46.10 my oil and my drink." 00:16:46.13\00:16:47.84 Did you catch that? 00:16:47.87\00:16:49.77 What is she saying there? 00:16:49.80\00:16:51.24 She's saying these other people, 00:16:51.27\00:16:53.27 these idols that I put in place of my husband, 00:16:53.31\00:16:56.14 in place of God, 00:16:56.18\00:16:57.51 they gave me my water. 00:16:57.55\00:17:00.15 Remember, God's the one that gave the little baby 00:17:00.18\00:17:02.18 the water and washed it. 00:17:02.22\00:17:03.59 God's the one who gave the word, 00:17:03.62\00:17:05.32 but yet she's saying they gave me my oil. 00:17:05.35\00:17:08.92 Remember, God's the one 00:17:08.96\00:17:10.29 that gave the little baby the oil. 00:17:10.33\00:17:11.76 God's the one that washed it with oil. 00:17:11.79\00:17:13.83 God's the one that gives you and I the Holy Spirit. 00:17:13.86\00:17:16.40 Yet she's saying they're the ones 00:17:16.43\00:17:17.93 who clothed me. 00:17:17.97\00:17:19.83 Remember in Ezekiel, 00:17:19.87\00:17:21.20 God's the one that covers 00:17:21.24\00:17:22.57 you and I with His righteousness. 00:17:22.60\00:17:24.51 And so she's so self-deceived 00:17:24.54\00:17:27.28 thinking that all the blessings in her life, 00:17:27.31\00:17:30.38 all the things that she has been given, 00:17:30.41\00:17:32.38 came from God, came from, 00:17:32.41\00:17:35.12 they came from God, but she thought, 00:17:35.15\00:17:36.82 no, they came from someone else. 00:17:36.85\00:17:40.76 Now you and I might not be playing the harlot 00:17:40.79\00:17:43.59 like Hosea in Hosea and Gomer story. 00:17:43.63\00:17:46.73 However, an idol is anything 00:17:46.76\00:17:49.76 that you and I place before God, 00:17:49.80\00:17:52.57 anything between us and God, 00:17:52.60\00:17:54.10 we can make an idol out of marriage, 00:17:54.14\00:17:55.54 or an idol out of children, or an idol out of friends, 00:17:55.57\00:17:58.37 or an idol out of money, or music or entertainment, 00:17:58.41\00:18:01.48 or work or church, even ideas. 00:18:01.51\00:18:05.78 You know, ideas can become an idol. 00:18:05.81\00:18:08.48 God could have left 00:18:08.52\00:18:09.85 the nation of Israel alone and without hope, 00:18:09.88\00:18:12.75 but yet He wanted to woo them back 00:18:12.79\00:18:15.32 and bring them back to Himself. 00:18:15.36\00:18:17.36 And that's where we come to the third section, 00:18:17.39\00:18:19.63 the renewing. 00:18:19.66\00:18:21.00 God tells Hosea, 00:18:21.03\00:18:23.40 go back and buy your wife back. 00:18:23.43\00:18:26.27 Now she was yours once, you were married, 00:18:26.30\00:18:28.94 you had three children together. 00:18:28.97\00:18:30.64 And yet she forsook that marriage covenant 00:18:30.67\00:18:35.41 that marriage relationship and she did her own thing. 00:18:35.44\00:18:37.91 She wandered in her own path, 00:18:37.95\00:18:40.08 and yet God tells Hosea go, 00:18:40.12\00:18:42.95 buy her back. 00:18:42.98\00:18:45.82 And so he does, he buys her incidentally 00:18:45.85\00:18:48.19 for 15 shekels of silver, 00:18:48.22\00:18:49.86 which is half the price of a slave. 00:18:49.89\00:18:52.59 So, her value in the market 00:18:52.63\00:18:55.36 was not even worth that much and yet God said, 00:18:55.40\00:18:59.13 "I want you for Myself." 00:18:59.17\00:19:01.44 And that's what He does to you and I. 00:19:01.47\00:19:04.17 He wants to remove from us the desire for other gods. 00:19:04.21\00:19:07.41 He wants to remove from us that taste 00:19:07.44\00:19:10.08 for sin or for idol worship. 00:19:10.11\00:19:12.45 And He buys us back 00:19:12.48\00:19:14.85 from the land of the enemy, how? 00:24:07.11\00:24:08.44 The nation of Israel, and you and I many times 00:24:08.48\00:24:12.41 as Seventh-day Adventist Christians 00:24:12.45\00:24:14.82 have profaned the name of God, 00:24:14.85\00:24:17.49 because we did our own thing 00:24:17.52\00:24:19.15 because we didn't follow Him because we did lip service, 00:24:19.19\00:24:22.96 but our hearts, they were unconverted 00:24:22.99\00:24:25.63 and we didn't even know 00:24:25.66\00:24:27.00 who our God was 00:24:27.03\00:24:28.90 that we claim to be married to. 00:24:28.93\00:24:31.20 They profaned His name, 00:24:31.23\00:24:34.10 but it doesn't stop there. 00:24:34.14\00:24:35.47 It says, "The nations shall know 00:24:35.50\00:24:37.34 that I am the Lord 00:24:37.37\00:24:39.47 when I am hallowed in you before their eyes." 00:24:39.51\00:24:42.34 What is He saying? 00:24:42.38\00:24:43.71 When you and I are changed by the power of Jesus, 00:24:43.75\00:24:46.51 when He gets a hold of us and cleanses us 00:24:46.55\00:24:49.22 and fills us up and changes us, 00:24:49.25\00:24:52.42 other people will know 00:24:52.45\00:24:54.66 that we have been with Jesus. 00:24:54.69\00:24:56.26 And will know that we belong to Him. 00:24:56.29\00:25:00.23 We'd had our little kitty cat about four years 00:25:00.26\00:25:02.33 when the unthinkable happened, 00:25:02.36\00:25:04.73 she disappeared. 00:25:04.77\00:25:06.33 Greg and I had traveled on a trip for 3ABN. 00:25:06.37\00:25:09.27 And when we got back, we called her 00:25:09.30\00:25:10.74 and she wasn't there. 00:25:10.77\00:25:12.27 And Greg said, it's late. 00:25:12.31\00:25:14.41 We don't know where she is. Let's go to bed. 00:25:14.44\00:25:16.08 And all I could think about was the owls, 00:25:16.11\00:25:17.88 and the coyotes, and the foxes, 00:25:17.91\00:25:19.91 and the bobcats that might've eaten her. 00:25:19.95\00:25:22.55 And she was our little cat and we left her, 00:25:22.58\00:25:24.95 but we went to bed and prayed. 00:25:24.99\00:25:26.39 And the next morning she still wasn't there. 00:25:26.42\00:25:28.76 And so Greg went into work 00:25:28.79\00:25:30.19 and I put on His old jeans 00:25:30.23\00:25:32.63 and an old flannel shirt. 00:25:32.66\00:25:34.16 And I headed out in search 00:25:34.20\00:25:36.30 of our little cat. 00:25:36.33\00:25:38.43 I went across the street from our house 00:25:38.47\00:25:40.20 and there's a lot of thickets and briars. 00:25:40.24\00:25:43.10 And almost immediately, there were so thick, 00:25:43.14\00:25:45.27 they forced me down to my knees. 00:25:45.31\00:25:47.28 And I'm crawling through the bushes, 00:25:47.31\00:25:49.54 dodging deer droppings and poison Ivy 00:25:49.58\00:25:52.78 and yanking this flannel shirt of Greg's 00:25:52.81\00:25:55.18 off of the briars and the prickers 00:25:55.22\00:25:57.89 stopping to call. 00:25:57.92\00:25:59.49 No meow. 00:25:59.52\00:26:00.86 Calling again, no meow. 00:26:00.89\00:26:03.83 I searched about an hour 00:26:03.86\00:26:05.23 at hands and knees calling, 00:26:05.26\00:26:07.00 crying out. 00:26:07.03\00:26:08.43 Then I started down a different path 00:26:08.46\00:26:10.40 and all of a sudden there she was, 00:26:10.43\00:26:13.10 I saw her way back in the woods 00:26:13.13\00:26:14.87 and I went out and I said, where have you been? 00:26:14.90\00:26:17.31 Why hadn't she come home? 00:26:17.34\00:26:19.34 Maybe she'd been lost. 00:26:19.37\00:26:21.11 Maybe the way home 00:26:21.14\00:26:23.41 it looked too far. 00:26:23.45\00:26:24.78 Maybe she just gotten too tired to walk anymore. 00:26:24.81\00:26:28.32 I don't know why. 00:26:28.35\00:26:30.12 Before we got her, 00:26:30.15\00:26:31.99 she had been a little bit abused 00:26:32.02\00:26:33.76 so she did not like to be hold. 00:26:33.79\00:26:35.19 She was afraid 00:26:35.22\00:26:36.56 every time we would pick her up, 00:26:36.59\00:26:37.93 she'd struggle and try to get away. 00:26:37.96\00:26:39.79 And so I knew there's no chance 00:26:39.83\00:26:41.16 I could carry her home. 00:26:41.20\00:26:42.53 So I started walking. I said, come on Pebbles. 00:26:42.56\00:26:44.43 You can walk with me hoping 00:26:44.47\00:26:47.10 that maybe she'd walk with me, 00:26:47.14\00:26:49.00 but she didn't. 00:26:49.04\00:26:50.37 She just sat there and looked up at me. 00:26:50.41\00:26:52.77 So I thought, well, I got nothing to lose. 00:26:52.81\00:26:55.04 So I reached down and I picked her up 00:26:55.08\00:26:58.05 and amazingly, 00:26:58.08\00:26:59.41 she didn't struggle. 00:26:59.45\00:27:00.78 She had no fight left. 00:27:00.82\00:27:02.98 She just knew that I loved her 00:27:03.02\00:27:06.05 and she wanted to go home. 00:27:06.09\00:27:08.09 Across the field we went me dirty, 00:27:08.12\00:27:10.93 scratched up 00:27:10.96\00:27:13.03 and a little cat in my arms. 00:27:13.06\00:27:15.03 And as we walked, 00:27:15.06\00:27:17.07 my mind traveled to the many times 00:27:17.10\00:27:18.93 my Father, the shepherd 00:27:18.97\00:27:21.14 had looked for me, the times He had called me, 00:27:21.17\00:27:24.14 the miles He had walked in my pursuit. 00:27:24.17\00:27:26.78 I thought of the brambles and thickets 00:27:26.81\00:27:28.78 that He had gone through 00:27:28.81\00:27:30.91 in search of me. 00:27:30.95\00:27:32.58 Sometimes I think I purposely hid 00:27:32.61\00:27:35.32 afraid of a holy God. 00:27:35.35\00:27:37.99 Seeing my sin polluted heart, 00:27:38.02\00:27:40.46 seeing what was wrong in my life, 00:27:40.49\00:27:43.69 seeing that I had forsaken Him, 00:27:43.73\00:27:45.89 and I had gone after other idols. 00:27:45.93\00:27:48.63 And I had done my own thing. 00:27:48.66\00:27:51.10 Other times I just got lost 00:27:51.13\00:27:52.77 and I couldn't seem to find 00:27:52.80\00:27:54.40 my way back home. 00:27:54.44\00:27:56.27 Other times I was so worn out with a fight, 00:27:56.30\00:27:59.11 I just couldn't take another step. 00:27:59.14\00:28:01.81 Those were the times my Father reached down, 00:28:01.84\00:28:05.41 picked me up and carried me home, 00:28:05.45\00:28:08.55 close against His heart. 00:28:08.58\00:28:11.55 I don't know where you are in your walk with Jesus. 00:28:11.59\00:28:15.42 You might hear Him 00:28:15.46\00:28:16.79 calling to your heart and feel like, 00:28:16.83\00:28:18.63 but I've done too much. 00:28:18.66\00:28:20.30 I've been through too much. 00:28:20.33\00:28:22.30 I've spat in His face. 00:28:22.33\00:28:25.20 I've gone after other lovers, other gods, 00:28:25.23\00:28:28.87 other idols. 00:28:28.90\00:28:30.51 Would He take me back? 00:28:30.54\00:28:32.21 I wanna tell you right now 00:28:32.24\00:28:33.98 that there's nothing 00:28:34.01\00:28:35.34 that you have ever done or can do 00:28:35.38\00:28:37.28 that will separate you 00:28:37.31\00:28:39.58 from the love of God. 00:28:39.61\00:28:41.32 Open up your heart to Him 00:28:41.35\00:28:43.95 just now and say, Lord Jesus, 00:28:43.99\00:28:46.79 would You cleanse me? 00:28:46.82\00:28:48.16 Lord Jesus, would You take me? 00:28:48.19\00:28:50.46 Lord Jesus, would You make me Your child? 00:28:50.49\00:28:52.76 And you know what? 00:28:52.79\00:28:54.13 He will. 00:28:54.16\00:28:55.50
