Well, it's nice to have you back. 00:00:15.58\00:00:17.31 We have some exciting things to study in this session. 00:00:17.71\00:00:21.08 We're going to begin by taking a look at 00:00:21.58\00:00:24.19 principle number thirteen. 00:00:24.22\00:00:26.19 Seems like yesterday that we started principle number one. 00:00:26.25\00:00:29.02 But we're already on thirteen. 00:00:29.46\00:00:31.03 We have number fourteen, and then we'll be finished. 00:00:31.06\00:00:33.76 Now let's go in our syllabus to page 33. 00:00:34.66\00:00:37.93 And we're going to work through this material. 00:00:38.57\00:00:40.87 I am only going to choose a few examples from the list 00:00:41.17\00:00:45.91 that we have under point number thirteen. 00:00:45.94\00:00:48.54 Because obviously, we don't have time to cover 00:00:48.58\00:00:50.88 all of these examples. 00:00:50.91\00:00:53.01 It would take us a full week session just to 00:00:53.11\00:00:55.55 go through all of these examples. 00:00:55.58\00:00:57.29 So let's begin at the top of the page, page 33. 00:00:57.69\00:01:01.62 And the principle is that all the books of the Bible 00:01:02.19\00:01:05.39 meet and end in Revelation. 00:01:05.43\00:01:07.46 The book of Revelation is the grand finale 00:01:09.86\00:01:14.27 of the redemption story. 00:01:14.70\00:01:16.50 For example, let's take a look at Genesis 3:15 00:01:17.31\00:01:21.91 and its relationship to Revelation chapter 12. 00:01:22.34\00:01:26.05 We did a little bit of this this morning. 00:01:26.82\00:01:28.95 Do we have the same elements in Revelation chapter 12 00:01:29.28\00:01:33.09 as we have in Genesis 3:15? 00:01:33.12\00:01:35.12 Yes we do. 00:01:35.16\00:01:36.49 It is the fulfillment of Genesis 3:15. 00:01:36.52\00:01:39.59 What do we have in Genesis 3:15? 00:01:39.93\00:01:42.00 We have a woman, right? 00:01:42.36\00:01:44.23 Is there a woman in Revelation 12? 00:01:44.27\00:01:46.33 Absolutely. 00:01:46.37\00:01:47.70 Then we have a seed that the woman has in her womb. 00:01:47.87\00:01:51.64 Is that in Genesis 3:15? 00:01:52.14\00:01:54.08 Absolutely. 00:01:54.34\00:01:55.68 In the third place, we have a serpent that wants 00:01:55.71\00:01:57.95 to devour the Child. 00:01:57.98\00:01:59.31 Do we find that in Genesis 3:15? 00:01:59.41\00:02:02.32 Yes, enmity between the woman and the serpent, 00:02:02.85\00:02:07.49 and the serpent and the seed of the woman. 00:02:07.52\00:02:09.82 And then in the fourth place, we have enmity. 00:02:10.06\00:02:12.03 Is there enmity in Genesis 3:15? 00:02:12.06\00:02:14.36 Absolutely. 00:02:14.46\00:02:15.80 So the same four elements that we find in Genesis 3:15 00:02:15.83\00:02:19.27 are found in Revelation chapter 12. 00:02:19.53\00:02:21.50 In other words, Revelation chapter 12, 00:02:21.70\00:02:23.81 the first few verses is the fulfillment of Genesis 3:15. 00:02:23.84\00:02:28.01 Because there is where the dragon, or the ancient 00:02:28.34\00:02:31.85 serpent also called, attacks the Child to try and kill the Child. 00:02:31.88\00:02:37.62 But the Child escapes from his hands. 00:02:37.65\00:02:39.72 So this shows that Genesis is to be understood 00:02:39.92\00:02:44.53 in the context of the book of Revelation. 00:02:44.56\00:02:46.90 You know, another example, and we'll give more examples 00:02:47.16\00:02:49.90 as we go along, is the three angels' messages of 00:02:49.93\00:02:53.27 Revelation chapter 14. 00:02:53.30\00:02:54.84 You know, that is foreshadowed in the book of Genesis. 00:02:55.44\00:02:58.74 Before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, 00:02:59.11\00:03:01.91 how many angels were sent to Abraham? 00:03:03.48\00:03:05.61 Three. 00:03:05.91\00:03:07.25 And if you look at their messages, you'll find 00:03:07.72\00:03:11.45 that they're in the same order as the messages of 00:03:11.49\00:03:14.46 Revelation chapter 14. 00:03:14.49\00:03:15.99 And so, what I'm saying is that what you find in Genesis 00:03:16.76\00:03:19.96 foreshadows what you have in the book of Revelation. 00:03:20.00\00:03:22.66 Now let's go to our next paragraph. 00:03:23.00\00:03:24.97 Revelation is a Hebrew book written in Greek. 00:03:25.43\00:03:30.71 Now you say, "How's that?" 00:03:31.84\00:03:33.17 A Hebrew book. 00:03:33.58\00:03:34.91 In other words, its background is the Old Testament. 00:03:34.94\00:03:37.35 But it is written in the Greek language. 00:03:37.75\00:03:39.78 It is saturated with Old Testament allusions. 00:03:40.38\00:03:43.82 In fact, there are more than 1000, some people say 2000, 00:03:44.42\00:03:49.52 allusions to the Old Testament in the book of Revelation. 00:03:49.86\00:03:53.36 These references include words, concepts, phrases, 00:03:53.96\00:04:00.87 sentences, verses, and sometimes the thematic order of 00:04:01.24\00:04:07.61 entire chapters from the Old Testament. 00:04:07.64\00:04:10.15 It must be born in mind that the Jewish language 00:04:11.28\00:04:14.08 is spiritualized and applied to the Christian church. 00:04:14.12\00:04:18.29 We've already studied that. 00:04:18.32\00:04:19.69 Revelation is a book for the church. 00:04:20.09\00:04:22.62 That's why it begins with messages to the seven churches. 00:04:22.66\00:04:25.86 It is not for literal Israel. 00:04:26.29\00:04:28.66 Revelation keeps the same Old Testament 00:04:29.30\00:04:32.20 terminology, but gives the language a spiritual, 00:04:32.23\00:04:36.40 not a literal, significance. 00:04:36.50\00:04:38.37 Are you understanding that point? 00:04:38.41\00:04:39.87 That is, Revelation still says, "Babylon." 00:04:40.28\00:04:42.88 But we are to understand that Babylon is not that 00:04:44.08\00:04:46.82 place where Saddam Hussein use to live. 00:04:47.02\00:04:49.38 Babylon is a global system. 00:04:49.82\00:04:52.05 "Israel;" Revelation uses the name. 00:04:52.65\00:04:56.73 But we are to understand that name applies to the 00:04:57.29\00:05:00.70 Christian church, and it's worldwide. 00:05:00.73\00:05:02.80 In other words, even though the terminology 00:05:03.37\00:05:05.93 from the Old Testament is conserved, 00:05:06.23\00:05:09.10 still it is spiritualized and globalized 00:05:09.34\00:05:13.17 in the book of Revelation. 00:05:13.21\00:05:15.01 Now let's continue here. 00:05:15.91\00:05:17.48 Revelation is like a gigantic jigsaw puzzle 00:05:17.88\00:05:21.85 which has thousands of pieces. 00:05:22.25\00:05:24.99 When these pieces are properly assembled, 00:05:25.55\00:05:28.69 there is a beautiful mosaic of truth. 00:05:28.92\00:05:31.73 It is like a majestic symphony which unites the entire Bible 00:05:32.23\00:05:37.07 in a beautiful musical masterpiece. 00:05:37.10\00:05:40.77 Ellen White has said in, Acts of the Apostles, page 585, 00:05:41.40\00:05:45.91 "In the Revelation, all the books of the Bible 00:05:46.31\00:05:50.48 meet and end. 00:05:50.51\00:05:52.08 Here is the complement of the book of Daniel. 00:05:52.38\00:05:55.35 One is a prophecy; the other, a revelation." 00:05:55.38\00:05:59.55 So that's an audacious statement. 00:05:59.85\00:06:01.89 "In Revelation, all the books of the Bible meet and end." 00:06:02.22\00:06:06.43 There is no book of the Bible that is not related 00:06:06.46\00:06:08.76 somehow to the book of Revelation. 00:06:08.80\00:06:11.23 It is important to remember that the book of Revelation 00:06:11.97\00:06:15.90 sometimes takes a solitary symbol from the Old Testament 00:06:16.20\00:06:20.71 to encourage us to study the entire context 00:06:21.04\00:06:24.71 where that symbol appears. 00:06:24.91\00:06:26.48 We've dealt with that before. 00:06:26.51\00:06:28.08 Thus, if we find Elijah terminology in Revelation, 00:06:28.42\00:06:31.92 we are to study the entire story of Elijah. 00:06:32.02\00:06:35.06 If Balaam is mentioned, we must study the entire 00:06:35.49\00:06:39.06 story of Balaam. 00:06:39.09\00:06:41.13 Now we have a few examples here, preliminary examples, 00:06:42.36\00:06:46.40 about the relationship between the Bible 00:06:46.70\00:06:50.07 and the book of Revelation. 00:06:50.11\00:06:52.11 You know, really, the Bible is what you call, an inclusio. 00:06:52.54\00:06:57.41 Because you have in Genesis 1 to 3 00:06:58.25\00:07:00.98 Eden created and Eden lost. 00:07:02.42\00:07:06.15 At the end of Revelation 20 to 22, 00:07:06.92\00:07:09.59 you have Eden restored and Eden regained. 00:07:09.62\00:07:13.50 And in between, you have everything that happened 00:07:13.53\00:07:16.56 to regain what was lost. 00:07:16.77\00:07:18.57 And so Revelation 21 and 22 and Genesis 1 to 3 00:07:19.07\00:07:25.84 are thematically related. 00:07:25.87\00:07:27.68 Because both of them have Eden, both of them have a 00:07:27.71\00:07:30.38 river of life, both of them have a tree of life. 00:07:30.41\00:07:33.25 They're very intimately related. 00:07:33.65\00:07:35.92 Now what about Revelation 14 verse 7, where it says, 00:07:36.79\00:07:40.86 "Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His 00:07:40.89\00:07:43.86 judgment has come." 00:07:43.89\00:07:45.23 You know, there's a text in the Old Testament 00:07:45.63\00:07:47.70 that is very similar to this one and helps us understand 00:07:48.23\00:07:51.73 this particular verse. 00:07:51.77\00:07:53.27 It's found in the book of Ecclesiastes chapter 12 00:07:53.50\00:07:58.67 and verse 13. 00:07:58.71\00:08:00.34 And you're going to notice immediately the similarity. 00:08:00.68\00:08:03.58 Here, the wise man Solomon says this. 00:08:05.11\00:08:08.55 "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: 00:08:08.85\00:08:12.12 Fear God and keep His commandments, 00:08:12.55\00:08:17.49 for this is man's all. 00:08:17.76\00:08:20.76 For God will bring every work into..." What? 00:08:20.80\00:08:23.80 "...into judgment." 00:08:24.37\00:08:25.70 And then it says, "...and every secret thing, 00:08:25.73\00:08:27.60 whether it be good or whether it be evil." 00:08:27.64\00:08:30.31 Is there any relationship between that verse 00:08:30.67\00:08:32.77 and Revelation 14 verses 6 and 7? 00:08:32.81\00:08:35.38 Of course. 00:08:35.71\00:08:37.05 Revelation 14 says, "Fear God, give glory to Him, 00:08:37.08\00:08:41.88 for the hour of His judgment is come." 00:08:42.42\00:08:44.82 Ecclesiastes says, "Fear God and keep His commandments, 00:08:45.09\00:08:50.09 because God is going to bring every work into judgment." 00:08:50.13\00:08:53.06 And so, we know where the terminology comes from 00:08:53.50\00:08:57.03 in Revelation 14 verse 6 and verse 7. 00:08:57.07\00:09:00.10 A source would be Ecclesiastes chapter 12 and verse 13. 00:09:00.50\00:09:05.81 Now notice Revelation chapter 7 and verse 1. 00:09:06.21\00:09:09.34 Revelation chapter 7 and verse 1. 00:09:09.38\00:09:12.01 Here we find an interesting description that includes 00:09:12.81\00:09:16.99 an interesting symbol. 00:09:17.02\00:09:18.72 It says there in Revelation 7 and verse 1, 00:09:18.92\00:09:21.36 "After these things I saw four angels standing 00:09:21.39\00:09:24.03 at the four corners of the earth, 00:09:24.06\00:09:25.66 holding the four winds of the earth, 00:09:25.96\00:09:28.20 that the wind should not blow on the earth, 00:09:28.23\00:09:30.70 on the sea, or on any..." What? 00:09:30.83\00:09:33.90 "...or on any tree." 00:09:34.00\00:09:35.37 So the question is, is the wind here literal wind? 00:09:36.50\00:09:41.71 Are we dealing with literal wind? 00:09:42.74\00:09:44.71 No, we're not dealing with literal wind. 00:09:45.11\00:09:47.12 Is the sea literal? 00:09:47.95\00:09:49.78 No. 00:09:50.02\00:09:51.35 Are the trees literal? 00:09:51.39\00:09:53.22 No. 00:09:53.25\00:09:54.59 We have to find out what trees represent. 00:09:54.62\00:09:57.29 We have to find out what the sea represents. 00:09:57.39\00:10:00.63 And we have to understand what the earth represents. 00:10:00.73\00:10:03.47 Does the book of Revelation explain those symbols? 00:10:03.50\00:10:06.77 Yes it does. 00:10:06.80\00:10:08.14 There's a beast that rises from the sea. 00:10:08.17\00:10:10.04 There's a beast that rises from the earth. 00:10:10.07\00:10:12.14 And what is meant by trees? 00:10:12.61\00:10:14.51 We go to other text in the Old Testament 00:10:14.54\00:10:17.41 to find out what is meant by a tree, symbolically. 00:10:17.45\00:10:20.98 Now, let's examine this by going to a couple of text, 00:10:21.58\00:10:27.26 and then we'll read a statement from the spirit of prophecy. 00:10:27.29\00:10:29.92 Go with me to Psalm 92 and verses 12 through 14. 00:10:30.23\00:10:35.06 Psalm 92 and verses 12 through 14. 00:10:35.26\00:10:39.17 And you're going to notice here what is symbolized 00:10:39.20\00:10:42.44 by a tree, specifically. 00:10:42.57\00:10:45.04 Once again, Psalm 92 and verses 12 through 14. 00:10:45.64\00:10:50.25 It says here, "The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, 00:10:50.71\00:10:56.52 he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 00:10:57.19\00:11:00.29 Those who are planted in the house of the Lord 00:11:00.82\00:11:03.56 shall flourish in the courts of our God. 00:11:03.86\00:11:06.90 They shall still bear fruit in old age; 00:11:07.26\00:11:10.17 they shall be fresh and flourishing, 00:11:10.20\00:11:12.83 to declare that the Lord is upright; 00:11:12.93\00:11:15.47 He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him." 00:11:15.57\00:11:20.04 So what is represented by a tree here in Psalm 92? 00:11:20.41\00:11:24.25 It represents the righteous who flourish like a tree. 00:11:25.01\00:11:29.35 We also read earlier in this course Psalm 1 where it 00:11:29.75\00:11:34.42 speaks about a tree planted next to rivers of waters. 00:11:34.46\00:11:38.03 And the tree does not wither, it bears its fruit in season. 00:11:38.06\00:11:41.86 So when you find this in Revelation chapter 7 verse 1, 00:11:41.96\00:11:45.37 are you going to try and find some literal tree somewhere 00:11:45.67\00:11:49.30 that this applies to? 00:11:49.34\00:11:50.67 Of course not. 00:11:50.71\00:11:52.04 Are you going to find some literal sea? 00:11:52.07\00:11:53.61 Well is this the Pacific, the Atlantic, 00:11:53.64\00:11:55.88 or is it the Mediterranean? 00:11:55.91\00:11:57.38 No, it's not talking about that. 00:11:57.58\00:11:59.45 What about the earth? 00:11:59.78\00:12:01.12 Well, the earth represents the new world. 00:12:01.15\00:12:03.99 The sea represents the old world. 00:12:04.09\00:12:05.95 The trees represent God's people. 00:12:05.99\00:12:09.16 Now notice this statement from Ellen White 00:12:09.36\00:12:11.59 that we find in, Patriarchs and Prophets, page 450. 00:12:12.26\00:12:16.30 Patriarchs and Prophets, 450. 00:12:16.33\00:12:18.60 She says, "Above all other trees the cedar of Lebanon," 00:12:19.30\00:12:23.17 which is mentioned here in Psalm 92, 00:12:23.20\00:12:25.11 "is distinguished for its strength, its firmness, 00:12:25.14\00:12:29.91 its undecaying vigor; and this is used as a symbol 00:12:29.94\00:12:35.18 of those whose life is 'hid with Christ in God.' 00:12:35.22\00:12:38.49 Says the Scripture, 'The righteous...shall 00:12:38.92\00:12:41.42 grow like a cedar.' 00:12:41.46\00:12:42.99 The divine hand has exalted the cedar as king over the forest. 00:12:43.02\00:12:47.93 'The fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chestnut trees 00:12:48.16\00:12:52.80 were not like his branches;' 00:12:52.83\00:12:54.77 nor any tree in the garden of God. 00:12:54.87\00:12:57.27 The cedar is repeatedly employed as an emblem of royalty, 00:12:57.51\00:13:02.48 and it is used in Scripture to represent the righteous 00:13:02.51\00:13:07.45 shows how Heaven regards those who do the will of God." 00:13:07.65\00:13:13.15 And so we know what the cedar represents in Scripture, 00:13:13.76\00:13:17.63 what a tree represents in Scripture. 00:13:17.66\00:13:19.83 Now some people have literalized the trumpets. 00:13:19.86\00:13:22.93 And they try to find a place where, you know, 00:13:22.96\00:13:25.10 the wind doesn't blow on the trees. 00:13:25.67\00:13:27.40 And they try to literalize it also in the series on the seals. 00:13:27.44\00:13:30.87 And it's useless to do that. 00:13:31.14\00:13:33.54 Because we have noticed that in the study of prophecy, 00:13:33.98\00:13:36.91 you're not dealing with literal things. 00:13:36.95\00:13:38.81 You're dealing with symbols. 00:13:38.85\00:13:40.48 And so if you're going to be consistent, 00:13:40.82\00:13:42.38 you have to interpret the symbols all the way through. 00:13:42.42\00:13:45.09 In the churches, in the seals, in the trumpets, etc. 00:13:45.12\00:13:48.26 Is that point clear? 00:13:48.29\00:13:49.62 Very, very important. 00:13:49.66\00:13:50.99 Now what I want to do is take a few additional examples 00:13:51.26\00:13:55.06 from the list that you have beginning on page 34. 00:13:55.10\00:13:58.73 And I'm going to pick and choose here. 00:13:58.77\00:14:00.77 And we're going to go through them and I'm just going to 00:14:01.07\00:14:03.00 mention a few ideas about each of these symbols 00:14:03.04\00:14:07.48 that come from elsewhere in Scripture. 00:14:07.51\00:14:10.51 The first one I want us to notice is 00:14:10.85\00:14:12.35 Revelation 14 verse 20. 00:14:12.38\00:14:14.15 That's a little ways down on page 34 of your syllabus. 00:14:15.05\00:14:19.59 You see that, Revelation 14 verse 20? 00:14:19.62\00:14:21.96 Now it speaks there of the winepress. 00:14:22.39\00:14:25.93 The winepress. 00:14:26.96\00:14:28.53 So what does the winepress represent? 00:14:28.93\00:14:31.80 The winepress represents the wicked. 00:14:32.03\00:14:34.64 Now there's a text that we did not read 00:14:34.97\00:14:37.14 from the Old Testament. 00:14:37.64\00:14:38.97 And so we want to read it now in the context of the winepress. 00:14:39.01\00:14:42.84 Go with me to Isaiah 63 and verses 1 through 5. 00:14:43.18\00:14:48.58 Isaiah 63 verses 1 through 5. 00:14:48.62\00:14:51.05 Do you remember that we mentioned in our previous class 00:14:51.09\00:14:54.92 that Jesus comes clothed with a garment dipped in blood 00:14:55.12\00:15:00.46 because He's coming to trample the winepress, right? 00:15:00.50\00:15:03.43 He's coming to trample the wicked. 00:15:03.63\00:15:05.10 Now notice Isaiah 63 and verses 1 through 5. 00:15:05.13\00:15:10.41 "Who is this who comes from Edom, 00:15:10.91\00:15:13.38 with dyed garments from Bozrah, 00:15:13.71\00:15:16.68 this One who is glorious in His apparel, 00:15:17.21\00:15:20.32 traveling in the greatness of His strength? 00:15:20.52\00:15:23.32 'I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.'" 00:15:23.99\00:15:27.16 And now notice the question. 00:15:27.69\00:15:29.22 "Why is Your apparel red..." 00:15:29.32\00:15:32.03 Is the apparel of Jesus red in Revelation 19? 00:15:32.49\00:15:35.63 Yes. 00:15:35.66\00:15:37.00 "Why is Your apparel red, 00:15:37.03\00:15:38.70 and Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?" 00:15:38.80\00:15:43.07 Aah. 00:15:44.01\00:15:45.34 Does it help to use the Old Testament? 00:15:45.37\00:15:47.38 Absolutely. 00:15:47.41\00:15:48.74 Here comes the answer. 00:15:49.28\00:15:50.68 "I have trodden the winepress alone; 00:15:50.71\00:15:54.22 and from the peoples, no one was with Me. 00:15:54.58\00:15:57.59 For I have trodden them in My anger, 00:15:57.92\00:16:00.92 and trampled them in My fury; 00:16:00.96\00:16:03.19 their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, 00:16:03.29\00:16:07.00 and I have stained all My robes." 00:16:07.03\00:16:09.70 So when Jesus is portrayed in Revelation 19 00:16:10.27\00:16:13.37 as His garments dipped in blood, it's because 00:16:13.84\00:16:16.04 He's trampled upon what? 00:16:16.07\00:16:17.74 He's trampled upon the winepress. 00:16:17.77\00:16:19.47 Now we're not to understand this as something mean spirited. 00:16:19.57\00:16:22.84 You know, Jesus is just going to come 00:16:22.88\00:16:24.41 and He's going to stomp on the wicked. No. 00:16:24.45\00:16:26.21 It needs to be understood in the context 00:16:26.45\00:16:28.35 of the covenant, once again. 00:16:28.38\00:16:30.09 Those who have made a covenant relationship with Jesus Christ, 00:16:30.49\00:16:33.39 in the crisis will be protected. 00:16:33.62\00:16:35.59 Those who have chosen to be independent of Jesus Christ 00:16:35.62\00:16:38.59 have chosen destruction. 00:16:38.69\00:16:40.26 They have not chosen salvation. 00:16:40.30\00:16:42.46 And so this passage from Isaiah 63 helps us interpret 00:16:42.73\00:16:47.27 Revelation 19 that speaks about the winepress. 00:16:47.40\00:16:50.47 The blood in which Jesus comes stained is not 00:16:50.71\00:16:54.74 His own saving blood. 00:16:54.78\00:16:56.58 It is what? 00:16:56.61\00:16:57.95 It is the blood of the enemies of His kingdom. 00:16:57.98\00:17:01.12 Now notice the next symbol here in the list. 00:17:01.58\00:17:04.62 Revelation 14 verse 8. 00:17:04.65\00:17:06.25 Babylon. 00:17:06.45\00:17:07.79 Where would you have to go to interpret Babylon? 00:17:08.22\00:17:10.56 Well, you go to a concordance. 00:17:11.96\00:17:13.40 And what does the concordance help you do? 00:17:13.43\00:17:15.40 Where is the first place that you find the word, "Babylon?" 00:17:16.97\00:17:19.83 In Genesis 11. 00:17:20.50\00:17:21.84 Would you have to study the entire story of Genesis 11 00:17:21.87\00:17:24.57 in order to make sense out of what Babylon is? 00:17:25.01\00:17:27.34 Of course, yeah. 00:17:27.58\00:17:28.91 Genesis 11 is invaluable in interpreting what Babylon is. 00:17:28.94\00:17:33.31 That's where the name begins. 00:17:33.35\00:17:34.95 It means, confusion. 00:17:34.98\00:17:36.32 He called the name of that place what? 00:17:36.35\00:17:38.22 Babel. Or confusion. 00:17:38.42\00:17:40.52 And the builder of Babel was a man named Nimrod. 00:17:40.99\00:17:44.53 His name means, rebellion. 00:17:44.56\00:17:46.13 Does that start to portray a picture? 00:17:47.43\00:17:49.70 What did Nimrod want to do? 00:17:49.73\00:17:51.60 You read, Patriarchs and Prophets. 00:17:51.97\00:17:53.64 He wanted to establish a global empire independent of God. 00:17:53.67\00:17:58.44 Is that the idea in these last days of earth's history? 00:17:59.04\00:18:02.88 It's called, globalism. 00:18:02.91\00:18:04.71 It's the idea of the whole world coming together 00:18:05.18\00:18:08.12 and eliminating wars and establishing a universal 00:18:08.15\00:18:11.59 capital from which the whole world will be ruled or governed. 00:18:11.62\00:18:15.99 That's nothing new in Revelation. 00:18:16.39\00:18:18.09 When you go to Genesis 11, the pattern becomes 00:18:18.33\00:18:21.86 absolutely clear. 00:18:21.90\00:18:23.67 So in order to understand Babylon, we have to go 00:18:24.43\00:18:26.77 back to Genesis 11. 00:18:26.80\00:18:28.24 Where else do we have to go? 00:18:28.27\00:18:29.77 Well, we have to go also to Nebuchadnezzar's Babylon, right? 00:18:29.87\00:18:33.11 We have to go, for example, to Daniel chapter 5. 00:18:33.71\00:18:36.91 In Daniel chapter 5, you remember that Belshazzar 00:18:36.95\00:18:39.68 was celebrating this banquet. 00:18:39.71\00:18:41.05 The enemy had the city surrounded. 00:18:41.08\00:18:42.75 And Babylon was sitting on the river Euphrates. 00:18:43.15\00:18:45.82 And he's celebrating this party because he feels 00:18:46.12\00:18:49.12 that Babylon is invincible because it sits on this river. 00:18:49.16\00:18:52.39 And there's plenty of water. 00:18:52.59\00:18:53.93 It can produce agricultural products because 00:18:53.96\00:18:57.90 they can irrigate with the river. 00:18:58.00\00:18:59.67 And they have these three huge walls that surround the city. 00:18:59.70\00:19:02.80 They have gates that go to the bottom of the river. 00:19:02.84\00:19:05.11 The city is absolutely invincible. 00:19:05.14\00:19:07.31 But the interesting thing is that Cyrus 00:19:07.58\00:19:10.75 comes from the north and from the east. 00:19:10.78\00:19:13.28 And he dries up the river Euphrates. 00:19:14.42\00:19:16.89 And they had left the gates open that night, 00:19:17.22\00:19:19.72 according to the Greek historians. 00:19:19.75\00:19:21.69 And so Cyrus went through the dry riverbed, 00:19:22.09\00:19:27.00 and the city of Babylon fell. 00:19:27.10\00:19:28.93 Does that help us understand Revelation 17? 00:19:28.96\00:19:31.70 Of course. And 16 as well. 00:19:31.73\00:19:33.90 The drying up of the Euphrates is the signal 00:19:34.17\00:19:36.81 that Babylon is going to fall. 00:19:36.84\00:19:38.47 And so in Revelation, we have the same terminology. 00:19:38.77\00:19:42.08 But you're not dealing with literal things, 00:19:42.11\00:19:44.08 you are dealing with symbols. 00:19:44.11\00:19:45.81 What does Babylon represent? 00:19:47.68\00:19:50.15 It's a harlot system. The harlot is Babylon. 00:19:50.69\00:19:53.69 Is it a global system? 00:19:53.96\00:19:55.72 Yes, she's seated on many waters. 00:19:56.22\00:19:58.49 What are the many waters? 00:19:58.53\00:19:59.89 Multitudes, nations, tongues, and peoples. 00:20:00.10\00:20:03.03 They are spiritual waters. 00:20:03.06\00:20:04.60 She is a spiritual harlot. She is a spiritual city. 00:20:04.63\00:20:07.80 Now what is the drying up of the Euphrates? 00:20:08.57\00:20:11.24 If the Euphrates represents multitudes, nations, 00:20:11.27\00:20:13.84 tongues, and peoples, and that marked the end 00:20:13.88\00:20:17.38 of Old Testament Babylon, literal Babylon, 00:20:17.41\00:20:19.65 it must be that at some point the multitudes, nations, 00:20:19.68\00:20:22.78 tongues, and peoples are going to withdraw their support. 00:20:22.82\00:20:25.42 They're going to dry up on the harlot. 00:20:25.45\00:20:27.49 Are you with me? 00:20:28.26\00:20:29.59 So is it helpful to go to Genesis 11 and to go to 00:20:29.62\00:20:33.46 Daniel chapter 5 and Jeremiah 50 and 51? 00:20:33.50\00:20:36.60 It's indispensible. 00:20:36.63\00:20:37.97 There's no way you can understand 00:20:38.00\00:20:39.43 Babylon in Revelation unless you understand 00:20:39.63\00:20:42.87 Babylon in Genesis, Jeremiah 50 and 51, 00:20:42.90\00:20:46.68 Daniel 5, and other places where it appears. 00:20:46.71\00:20:49.98 Revelation 3 verse 7 is an interesting text. 00:20:50.98\00:20:53.85 Just a little bit further down. 00:20:53.88\00:20:55.58 Revelation 3 verse 7. 00:20:55.95\00:20:57.45 It speaks about the key of David. 00:20:57.49\00:20:59.92 And the key of David is going to be used to open a door 00:21:02.49\00:21:08.06 before the church of Philadelphia. 00:21:09.33\00:21:11.60 Do you know which period of church history Philadelphia is? 00:21:11.83\00:21:15.50 It's the Millerite movement. 00:21:15.87\00:21:17.57 That's Philadelphia. 00:21:17.74\00:21:19.07 In the flow of church history. 00:21:19.37\00:21:21.04 And so, before Philadelphia is placed, what? 00:21:21.51\00:21:25.55 An open door. 00:21:25.75\00:21:27.08 And the door is opened with a key. 00:21:27.12\00:21:28.58 And it says there that no one can shut one door 00:21:29.48\00:21:33.59 that is open, and nobody can open a door that was shut. 00:21:34.92\00:21:39.26 Now the question is, which is the door that is open 00:21:39.69\00:21:42.76 before the church of Philadelphia? 00:21:43.80\00:21:45.67 It has to be the door to the Most Holy Place. 00:21:46.94\00:21:49.40 Because in the Sanctuary there were three doors. 00:21:49.70\00:21:52.24 There was the door that led from the camp to the court. 00:21:52.57\00:21:55.51 There was the door that led from the court to the Holy Place. 00:21:55.84\00:21:58.68 And there was the door that led from the Holy to the Most Holy. 00:21:59.01\00:22:02.02 Now could this door in Revelation 3 verse 7 00:22:03.32\00:22:06.76 be the door that leads from the camp to the court? 00:22:06.86\00:22:10.19 No, when did Jesus enter that door? 00:22:10.63\00:22:12.83 He entered that door when He came to die on the cross, right? 00:22:13.53\00:22:20.24 Now, is that the period of the sixth church? 00:22:21.14\00:22:24.21 Are you kidding? 00:22:24.44\00:22:25.77 The sixth church is towards the end of church history. 00:22:25.81\00:22:27.78 So it can't be the first door. 00:22:28.21\00:22:29.78 How about the second door, the door between the 00:22:30.15\00:22:33.08 court and the Holy Place? 00:22:33.11\00:22:34.92 That can't be either. 00:22:35.18\00:22:36.52 When did Jesus enter that door? 00:22:36.55\00:22:37.89 He entered that door when He ascended to heaven 00:22:38.49\00:22:41.16 to begin His intercession. 00:22:41.62\00:22:42.96 So it can't be the second door. 00:22:42.99\00:22:44.46 So how many doors does that leave? 00:22:44.49\00:22:46.36 It only leaves one. 00:22:46.59\00:22:47.93 The door to the Most Holy Place. 00:22:47.96\00:22:49.36 So you know that the church of Philadelphia, 00:22:49.40\00:22:54.20 Revelation 3 verse 7, deals with the Most Holy Place message. 00:22:54.24\00:22:58.74 And if you want more on this, you've got to get my book, 00:22:58.77\00:23:01.34 Worship at Satan's Throne, where I deal with 00:23:01.38\00:23:04.08 Revelation 3 verse 7. 00:23:04.11\00:23:05.45 It's an eye opening book. 00:23:05.48\00:23:06.82 It's very, very important for what's happening in the 00:23:06.85\00:23:09.85 Adventist church right now in the area of worship and music, 00:23:09.88\00:23:14.26 and all of these things that are happening in the church. 00:23:14.29\00:23:16.83 We already noticed that Revelation 20:1-3 00:23:17.33\00:23:20.60 that speaks about the millennium, 00:23:21.46\00:23:23.20 we need to go to several passages in the Old Testament. 00:23:23.40\00:23:26.33 We have to go to Leviticus 16, don't we? 00:23:26.90\00:23:28.97 The scapegoat ceremony? 00:23:29.00\00:23:30.61 We have to do back to Jeremiah chapter 4, right? 00:23:30.84\00:23:33.88 Where it says that Jeremiah heard the sound of the trumpet, 00:23:33.91\00:23:36.85 then he saw war. 00:23:36.98\00:23:38.31 And then he says, "I looked at the earth and it was 00:23:38.35\00:23:40.55 without form and void." 00:23:40.58\00:23:41.95 You have to go back there. 00:23:41.98\00:23:43.32 You have to go back to Isaiah 24 where it speaks about 00:23:43.35\00:23:45.89 the earth being empty and being waste. 00:23:45.92\00:23:48.72 And so you have to go back to these Old Testament 00:23:48.86\00:23:51.59 context in order to fully understand the meaning 00:23:52.16\00:23:55.56 of the millennium in the book of Revelation. 00:23:55.60\00:23:57.97 Now what about Gog and Magog? 00:23:58.40\00:24:00.40 Revelation chapter 20 verses 8 and 9. 00:24:00.70\00:24:03.20 Folks, Gog and Magog are the central theme 00:24:03.57\00:24:07.38 of Ezekiel 38 and 39. 00:24:07.41\00:24:09.68 Now I wish we had time to go into those two chapters. 00:24:10.15\00:24:14.02 Because they foreshadow what we find 00:24:14.12\00:24:16.08 in the book of Revelation. 00:24:16.12\00:24:17.45 Do you know, most Futurists these days 00:24:17.62\00:24:20.62 believe that Gog and Magog represents Russia 00:24:20.82\00:24:24.33 that is going to come against the Holy Land. 00:24:25.36\00:24:27.76 That's what they believe. 00:24:28.20\00:24:29.53 But the interesting thing is, when you go to the book of 00:24:29.96\00:24:32.67 Revelation, it says that Gog and Magog comes from the 00:24:32.70\00:24:37.34 four corners of the earth. 00:24:37.37\00:24:39.21 It globalizes Gog and Magog. 00:24:40.38\00:24:43.35 And lo and behold, Gog and Magog is not Russia 00:24:43.38\00:24:46.68 before the thousand years. 00:24:46.72\00:24:48.05 Gog and Magog are spoken of after the thousand years. 00:24:48.22\00:24:51.95 And so, if you go back to the root prophecy, 00:24:52.69\00:24:56.16 you are protected from making big mistakes 00:24:56.42\00:24:59.69 in your interpretation of Bible prophecy. 00:24:59.73\00:25:01.90 Notice a little bit further down, 00:25:01.93\00:25:03.67 Revelation 13 verse 18. 00:25:03.70\00:25:05.83 Remember the number of the beast is 666? 00:25:05.93\00:25:09.37 Now let's go in our Bibles to 1 Kings chapter 10 and verse 14. 00:25:09.80\00:25:14.61 1 Kings chapter 10 and verse 14. 00:25:14.71\00:25:18.31 And notice something very interesting that we find 00:25:19.35\00:25:22.45 in this particular verse. 00:25:22.48\00:25:25.05 It's speaking about Solomon, 00:25:25.09\00:25:26.82 and the great wealth of Solomon. 00:25:27.59\00:25:30.13 It says there, "The weight of gold that came to Solomon yearly 00:25:31.46\00:25:38.23 was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold." 00:25:38.27\00:25:43.10 And then if you keep on reading the following verses, 00:25:44.91\00:25:48.11 and chapter 11 the first few verses, 00:25:48.61\00:25:51.48 you're going to find that Solomon comes to depend 00:25:51.68\00:25:56.05 on his riches and he fornicates with women from other nations. 00:25:56.08\00:26:01.56 Is that true of the power whose number is 666 00:26:02.49\00:26:06.39 in the book of Revelation? 00:26:06.43\00:26:07.93 It's the same context, folks. 00:26:07.96\00:26:09.50 So does it help to study the apostasy of Solomon 00:26:09.76\00:26:13.97 in order to understand the end time apostasy 00:26:14.00\00:26:16.54 within the church? 00:26:16.57\00:26:17.91 It most certainly does. 00:26:17.94\00:26:19.27 And so we need to go to where the number 666 is found. 00:26:19.34\00:26:24.21 And incidentally, we also, during our class, 00:26:24.25\00:26:27.55 spoke about Daniel 3 and verse 1. 00:26:27.58\00:26:29.85 Remember the dimensions of the image? 00:26:30.29\00:26:32.12 60 by 6, and the total is 360. 00:26:33.25\00:26:38.33 And the summary number of 360, you know, 00:26:38.89\00:26:43.16 if you add 1 through 36, the total is what? 00:26:43.20\00:26:47.30 666. We spoke about that. 00:26:47.34\00:26:50.14 Now what about Revelation 12 and verse 9? 00:26:50.54\00:26:52.91 A little bit further down. 00:26:52.94\00:26:54.28 The ancient serpent. 00:26:54.84\00:26:56.21 Why do you suppose it's called, the ancient serpent? 00:26:56.24\00:26:59.08 What is it hinting at? 00:27:00.32\00:27:03.02 It's saying, "Hey, if you want to understand this serpent here, 00:27:03.05\00:27:06.45 you have to go back to Genesis." 00:27:06.49\00:27:08.42 That's why it's called, the ancient serpent. 00:27:08.66\00:27:10.63 In other words, to understand Revelation chapter 12, 00:27:10.66\00:27:13.56 the devil in chapter 12, you have to go back 00:27:13.60\00:27:16.20 and understand the way that he worked in the book of Genesis. 00:27:16.23\00:27:20.00 You know, Revelation 14 verses 14 to 20, 00:27:20.47\00:27:23.34 we didn't have time to study this particular prophecy 00:27:23.37\00:27:26.24 in detail, but that totally comes from Joel 2 and Joel 3. 00:27:26.27\00:27:30.41 The idea of the winepress outside the city, 00:27:30.61\00:27:34.42 the nations gathering to destroy Jerusalem, 00:27:34.45\00:27:36.99 and God rebuking the nations. 00:27:37.02\00:27:39.02 Everything is there in the book of Joel, Joel 2 and Joel 3. 00:27:39.05\00:27:43.22 Revelation 12 verse 14, the eagle's wings. 00:27:43.66\00:27:47.50 You know, if you go to the Old Testament, 00:27:47.83\00:27:49.56 you're going to find that it represents God's salvation. 00:27:49.60\00:27:52.60 God rescuing His people from slavery. 00:27:52.70\00:27:55.57 Notice Exodus, let's read that, Exodus chapter 19 and verse 4. 00:27:55.60\00:28:00.88 Exodus 19 and verse 4. 00:28:00.91\00:28:03.21 God is speaking about what He did for Israel 00:28:03.61\00:28:06.11 when He took them out of Egypt. 00:28:06.15\00:28:07.72 He says, "You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, 00:28:07.98\00:28:10.95 how I bore you on..." What? 00:28:10.99\00:28:13.05 "...on eagles' wings..." 00:28:13.15\00:28:15.12 In other words, "I took you away from Pharaoh." 00:28:15.49\00:28:17.79 "...and brought you to Myself." 00:28:18.79\00:28:20.93 So in other words, He rescued Israel from slavery, 00:28:21.26\00:28:24.30 from slavery to Pharaoh, and he brought him to Himself. 00:28:24.97\00:28:29.17 Now Revelation 13:1-10, which is the next to the last item 00:28:29.64\00:28:33.54 that we have here, it comes from Daniel chapter 7, right? 00:28:33.58\00:28:37.71 Because the beast rules for 42 months, 00:28:37.98\00:28:40.92 it commits blasphemy, it persecutes the saints 00:28:40.95\00:28:43.65 of the Most High. 00:28:43.69\00:28:45.02 Identical things that the little horn did in chapter 7. 00:28:45.05\00:28:47.82 So we know that the beast is the same as the little horn 00:28:47.86\00:28:50.36 when you go back to the root prophecy in Daniel chapter 7. 00:28:50.56\00:28:54.26 You know, the two olive trees in Revelation 11 verse 4. 00:28:54.46\00:28:58.03 Very clearly, they come from Zechariah chapter 4 00:28:58.43\00:29:01.27 verses 1 to 6. 00:29:01.30\00:29:02.67 So if you want to understand the two olive trees 00:29:02.70\00:29:05.21 in Revelation 11, you have to go back to the root prophecy 00:29:05.24\00:29:08.81 which is found in Zechariah chapter 4 00:29:08.84\00:29:11.38 and verses 1 through 6. 00:29:11.41\00:29:14.02 Where do we get the little book episode of Revelation chapter 10 00:29:14.85\00:29:20.66 that we studied in our class yesterday? 00:29:20.69\00:29:23.09 Well, this idea of eating a book and having it be 00:29:23.36\00:29:27.13 sweet in the mouth and the need to proclaim the 00:29:27.16\00:29:29.60 contents of the book is found in Ezekiel 3. 00:29:29.63\00:29:32.50 Let's go there just for a moment. 00:29:33.03\00:29:34.44 We read it yesterday, but let's take a look at it again. 00:29:34.47\00:29:37.21 Ezekiel chapter 3 and verses 1 through 4. 00:29:37.24\00:29:40.98 Immediately you're going to see the connection. 00:29:41.01\00:29:42.91 It says there in verse 1, "Moreover He said to me, 00:29:43.58\00:29:47.25 'Son of man, eat what you find; 00:29:47.28\00:29:49.65 eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.'" 00:29:49.85\00:29:53.96 So he's suppose to eat it, and then what? 00:29:53.99\00:29:56.19 Speak the message. 00:29:56.56\00:29:58.06 "So I opened my mouth, and He caused me to eat that scroll. 00:29:58.09\00:30:01.63 And He said to me, 'Son of man, feed your belly, 00:30:02.16\00:30:05.00 and fill your stomach with this scroll that I give you.' 00:30:05.10\00:30:08.10 So I ate, and it was in my mouth like..." What? 00:30:08.14\00:30:11.07 "...like honey in sweetness. 00:30:11.31\00:30:13.71 Then He said to me, 'Son of man, go to the house of Israel 00:30:13.74\00:30:17.05 and speak with My words to them.'" 00:30:17.25\00:30:19.41 So what does it mean to eat the scroll? 00:30:19.45\00:30:21.58 It means you assimilate the message, 00:30:21.62\00:30:23.28 and then what do you do? 00:30:23.32\00:30:24.65 And then you go and you speak the message to others. 00:30:24.69\00:30:28.06 That helps us understand the context 00:30:28.42\00:30:30.53 of Revelation chapter 10. 00:30:30.56\00:30:32.26 Now what about the two-edged sword that comes out of 00:30:32.56\00:30:35.43 the mouth of the one who is seated on the white horse? 00:30:35.46\00:30:38.97 Well, let's go in our Bibles to Hebrews chapter 4 00:30:39.13\00:30:42.80 verses 12 and 13. 00:30:42.84\00:30:44.74 Hebrews chapter 4 verses 12 and 13 00:30:44.77\00:30:47.41 gives us what this means. 00:30:47.64\00:30:49.38 See, if you go to Revelation 19, you're going to imagine that 00:30:49.41\00:30:52.75 when Jesus comes, He's seated on a white horse 00:30:52.78\00:30:55.28 and He has a great big sword coming out of His mouth. 00:30:55.32\00:30:57.75 Well, this is symbolic language. 00:30:57.79\00:30:59.99 The horse represents He's coming as a King, as a conqueror. 00:31:00.22\00:31:03.43 And the sword is symbolic. 00:31:03.53\00:31:05.49 What does the sword symbolize? 00:31:05.59\00:31:07.50 Notice what we find in Hebrews 4 verses 12 and 13. 00:31:07.70\00:31:11.90 "For the word of God is living and powerful, 00:31:12.93\00:31:18.71 and sharper than any two-edged sword..." 00:31:19.17\00:31:22.01 So what is it when Jesus comes that comes out of His mouth? 00:31:22.44\00:31:25.91 His what? 00:31:25.95\00:31:27.28 His sharp word, is what's coming out. 00:31:27.32\00:31:30.09 "...piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, 00:31:30.42\00:31:33.86 and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of 00:31:33.89\00:31:36.89 the thoughts and intents of the heart. 00:31:36.93\00:31:38.96 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, 00:31:39.53\00:31:42.16 but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him 00:31:42.26\00:31:45.23 to whom we must give an account." 00:31:45.53\00:31:48.40 So do you see how important it is to go to other text 00:31:48.84\00:31:52.97 in the Bible to understand what the sword represents? 00:31:53.01\00:31:55.81 Now a little bit further down on page 35, 00:31:56.28\00:31:59.41 the Book of Life. 00:31:59.81\00:32:01.18 What does the Book of Life contain? 00:32:01.48\00:32:03.65 Folks, the Book of Life contains names. 00:32:04.32\00:32:07.19 The books contain the record of the life. 00:32:07.66\00:32:10.93 Now, the Book contains names, and those names are placed there 00:32:11.46\00:32:16.36 as people accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. 00:32:16.87\00:32:20.77 In other words, when a person is baptized, their name 00:32:20.80\00:32:23.41 in chronological order is placed in the Book of Life. 00:32:23.54\00:32:27.58 And then later on, their life is examined in the judgment. 00:32:28.21\00:32:31.45 And if it is seen that that persons acceptance of Christ 00:32:31.48\00:32:35.62 was sincere and true, then their name is left 00:32:35.65\00:32:39.15 in the Book of Life. 00:32:39.19\00:32:40.52 So in other words, names are written in the Book of Life 00:32:40.76\00:32:43.99 chronologically according to when people accept 00:32:44.49\00:32:47.20 Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. 00:32:47.23\00:32:48.86 That helps us understand why Ellen White says 00:32:49.40\00:32:51.87 that the judgment in 1844 began with those who first 00:32:52.13\00:32:56.37 lived upon the earth. 00:32:56.40\00:32:58.51 It's not in alphabetical order. 00:32:58.61\00:33:00.28 Praise the Lord for that. 00:33:00.31\00:33:01.78 You know, it's in chronological order. 00:33:01.98\00:33:05.31 Let me ask you, did Adam repent of his sin? 00:33:05.35\00:33:09.15 Of course he did. 00:33:09.25\00:33:10.59 Did he receive Christ as his Savior? 00:33:10.62\00:33:12.65 Yes, he sacrificed a lamb indicating that he repented 00:33:12.75\00:33:15.69 of his sin and he recognized that the Messiah was going to 00:33:15.72\00:33:18.29 save him from his sin. 00:33:18.33\00:33:19.66 And so he was the first one written in the Book of Life. 00:33:19.76\00:33:22.83 Are you following me or not? 00:33:23.50\00:33:24.83 So it is names that are written in the Book of Life. 00:33:25.17\00:33:28.14 And you have several text there. 00:33:28.17\00:33:30.14 You remember Daniel 12 verse 1. 00:33:30.17\00:33:32.61 Who are the ones who are going to be delivered 00:33:32.64\00:33:34.18 from the end time tribulation? 00:33:34.21\00:33:35.74 "Your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found 00:33:36.14\00:33:39.11 written in the Book," whose name is in the Book. 00:33:39.35\00:33:41.95 Isaiah 4 verses 2 and 3 has the same thing. 00:33:42.05\00:33:46.35 You remember when Moses, this is Exodus 32 verse 32, 00:33:46.39\00:33:50.03 when Moses interceded for Israel, he said, 00:33:50.19\00:33:52.73 "If you can't save this people, erase me from Your Book. 00:33:52.76\00:33:56.60 Eradicate me from Your Book. 00:33:56.63\00:33:58.00 Take my name out." 00:33:58.03\00:33:59.37 You know, Philippians 4 verse 3, the apostle Paul mentions 00:33:59.53\00:34:03.30 several of his fellow laborers whose names are written 00:34:03.34\00:34:06.81 in the book of Life. 00:34:06.84\00:34:08.18 So in other words, the Book of Life contains names. 00:34:08.21\00:34:11.18 And as you examine all of these text on the Book of Life, 00:34:11.38\00:34:15.15 you'll be able to gain a complete picture of what 00:34:15.35\00:34:18.05 is involved in the Book of Life. 00:34:18.09\00:34:21.59 Now we'll take maybe one or two more, 00:34:22.02\00:34:24.76 and then we need to move on. 00:34:25.03\00:34:26.73 Revelation chapter 12 and verse 7. 00:34:26.76\00:34:29.36 Michael. 00:34:30.10\00:34:31.43 Are there any other text in Scripture 00:34:32.40\00:34:34.77 that refer to Michael? 00:34:34.80\00:34:36.14 Absolutely. 00:34:36.17\00:34:37.51 Would it be helpful to go to those? 00:34:37.54\00:34:39.01 Incidentally, you know something very interesting? 00:34:39.47\00:34:41.74 The name Michael always appears in the context of Jesus 00:34:41.98\00:34:45.48 being in conflict with the devil. 00:34:45.51\00:34:47.42 Always. 00:34:49.05\00:34:50.39 And the name means, who is like God. 00:34:51.05\00:34:55.42 His name is a challenge. 00:34:55.69\00:34:57.69 And so, when Jesus is in controversy with the devil, 00:34:58.56\00:35:02.30 He says, "I am Michael, who is like God." 00:35:02.96\00:35:06.17 And of course, what can the devil answer? 00:35:06.20\00:35:08.17 He can't answer anything. 00:35:09.30\00:35:10.67 Because he knows that no one is like God. 00:35:10.77\00:35:13.14 So it's a beautiful name that is a challenge. 00:35:13.64\00:35:16.54 Now, let's just go to two more. 00:35:16.95\00:35:19.61 One is Revelation 13 verse 14 where it speaks about 00:35:19.81\00:35:22.98 the image, whoever doesn't worship the image 00:35:23.02\00:35:25.05 that was raised by the beast should be killed. 00:35:25.09\00:35:27.46 Where do we need to go to understand that? 00:35:27.49\00:35:29.72 We have to go to Daniel 3. 00:35:30.09\00:35:31.69 Because that's the background. 00:35:32.06\00:35:33.56 Is Babylon the power in Daniel 3? 00:35:33.60\00:35:35.96 Yes. Is Babylon the power in Revelation 13? 00:35:36.26\00:35:38.97 Yes. 00:35:39.20\00:35:40.54 The power in Revelation 13, is that a beast? 00:35:40.57\00:35:43.10 Yes. 00:35:43.17\00:35:44.51 In Daniel 3, was Nebuchadnezzar a beast for a while? 00:35:44.54\00:35:47.48 Absolutely. 00:35:47.51\00:35:48.84 Did Nebuchadnezzar command everyone to worship the image? 00:35:48.88\00:35:51.71 Is that true of Revelation 13? 00:35:51.98\00:35:53.82 Whoever didn't worship the image should be killed. 00:35:53.92\00:35:56.18 Absolutely. 00:35:56.22\00:35:57.55 So you know that in order to understand Revelation 13, 00:35:57.59\00:36:00.66 you have to go back to the historical root story 00:36:00.69\00:36:04.06 that we find in the Old Testament. 00:36:04.09\00:36:05.93 Now the final one that I want to take a look at 00:36:06.13\00:36:08.16 is about the half hour of silence. 00:36:08.20\00:36:11.40 Have you ever heard about that time, 00:36:12.13\00:36:13.67 Revelation chapter 8 and verse 1? 00:36:13.70\00:36:15.37 It's actually the seventh seal of Revelation. 00:36:15.40\00:36:19.57 Now, what is represented by this almost half an hour of silence? 00:36:20.08\00:36:25.38 It says, "about half an hour." 00:36:25.41\00:36:27.85 It doesn't say half hour. It says, "about half an hour." 00:36:27.95\00:36:30.22 What is represented by that? 00:36:30.39\00:36:32.22 You know, does it really represent the entire period 00:36:32.55\00:36:36.09 of the second coming of Christ from the time that Jesus 00:36:36.12\00:36:38.56 leaves heaven till the time that He arrives? 00:36:38.59\00:36:40.73 You know, I use to believe that until I started studying 00:36:40.83\00:36:43.06 this more carefully. 00:36:43.10\00:36:44.43 And I found this statement from the spirit of prophecy 00:36:45.20\00:36:47.74 that is very, very helpful. 00:36:47.77\00:36:49.34 Let's go to Revelation chapter 6 00:36:49.87\00:36:54.34 and let's read verses 14 through 17. 00:36:54.48\00:36:58.91 Revelation chapter 6 and verses 14 through 17. 00:36:58.95\00:37:03.42 This is describing the second coming. 00:37:04.29\00:37:06.35 It says, "Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is 00:37:06.96\00:37:09.66 rolled up, and every mountain and island was 00:37:09.69\00:37:12.49 moved out of its place. 00:37:12.53\00:37:13.86 And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, 00:37:14.10\00:37:16.67 the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, 00:37:16.70\00:37:20.07 hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, 00:37:20.27\00:37:23.47 and said to the mountains and rocks, 'Fall on us 00:37:23.51\00:37:26.68 and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne 00:37:26.88\00:37:29.81 and from the wrath of the Lamb. 00:37:30.01\00:37:31.71 For the great day of His wrath has come, 00:37:32.08\00:37:34.65 and who is able to stand?'" 00:37:34.85\00:37:37.45 So you notice that it ends with a question. 00:37:38.49\00:37:41.22 "Who is able to stand?" 00:37:41.26\00:37:42.86 Now the question is, who are able to stand? 00:37:43.06\00:37:46.39 Well, you need to go to the next chapter. 00:37:46.70\00:37:48.56 What does the next chapter contain? 00:37:49.33\00:37:51.07 It contains the 144,000 being sealed. 00:37:51.90\00:37:54.57 Are those the ones who are going to be alive when Jesus comes? 00:37:54.84\00:37:57.51 Will they be able to stand? 00:37:57.94\00:37:59.81 Absolutely. 00:38:00.24\00:38:01.58 Now I want to read you this statement from, 00:38:02.11\00:38:04.21 Great Controversy, 641. 00:38:04.25\00:38:05.78 Notice where Ellen White locates this period of silence. 00:38:05.81\00:38:10.92 I'm reading from, Great Controversy, page 641. 00:38:12.35\00:38:15.29 "Before His presence, 'all faces are turned into paleness;' 00:38:15.82\00:38:21.96 upon the rejecters of God's mercy falls the 00:38:22.76\00:38:26.57 terror of eternal despair. 00:38:26.67\00:38:28.67 'The heart melteth, and the knees smite together,' 00:38:29.17\00:38:32.07 'and the faces of them all gather blackness.'" 00:38:32.31\00:38:36.04 Now listen carefully. 00:38:36.68\00:38:38.01 "The righteous cry with trembling, 00:38:38.05\00:38:40.98 'Who shall be able to stand?'" 00:38:41.55\00:38:43.89 Did you catch that? "Who shall be able..." 00:38:46.32\00:38:48.39 Is that the question that appears 00:38:48.42\00:38:49.76 at the end of Revelation 6? 00:38:49.79\00:38:51.19 Yes. "Who shall be able to stand?" 00:38:51.46\00:38:53.63 And now notice. 00:38:53.66\00:38:55.00 "The righteous cry with trembling, 00:38:57.53\00:38:59.27 'Who shall be able to stand?' 00:38:59.30\00:39:01.00 The angels' song is hushed, and there is a period 00:39:01.04\00:39:04.87 of awful silence." 00:39:04.91\00:39:07.21 What is the seventh seal? 00:39:09.38\00:39:10.81 A period of silence in heaven. 00:39:12.31\00:39:13.98 This is the period of silence. 00:39:15.02\00:39:16.89 And then notice, "The angels' song is hushed, and there is 00:39:18.05\00:39:22.49 a period of awful silence." 00:39:22.52\00:39:24.39 A period. 00:39:25.19\00:39:26.53 How much would that period be? 00:39:26.56\00:39:27.90 About a half hour. 00:39:28.40\00:39:29.73 Because the next seal is the seventh seal. 00:39:29.86\00:39:32.93 See? 00:39:32.97\00:39:34.30 The question is asked in the sixth seal, 00:39:34.34\00:39:36.27 "Who shall be able to stand." 00:39:36.30\00:39:37.64 The seventh seal is silence. 00:39:38.07\00:39:41.24 So here you have the people crying out, 00:39:41.74\00:39:43.91 "Who shall be able to stand?" 00:39:43.95\00:39:45.28 And the next seal is silence. 00:39:45.95\00:39:47.75 So it continues saying, "Then the righteous are lighted up..." 00:39:48.88\00:39:52.85 Excuse me, "Then the voice of Jesus is heard, saying, 00:39:53.39\00:39:55.76 'My grace is sufficient for you.' 00:39:55.96\00:39:58.23 The faces of the righteous are lighted up, 00:39:58.63\00:40:00.56 and joy fills every heart. 00:40:00.96\00:40:02.76 And the angels strike a note higher, and sing again, 00:40:02.80\00:40:06.50 as they draw still nearer to the earth." 00:40:06.53\00:40:09.57 So the question is, is it helpful for us 00:40:10.61\00:40:14.24 to go to other passages in Scripture 00:40:14.28\00:40:17.05 in order to understand what we find in the book of Revelation? 00:40:17.08\00:40:21.25 It is extremely important. 00:40:21.72\00:40:24.09 It is vitally important to do so. 00:40:24.12\00:40:26.79 And you have many other examples in your syllabus. 00:40:27.19\00:40:29.92 I just gave you a little sampling. 00:40:30.13\00:40:31.93 Now I want to give you an example that is 00:40:31.96\00:40:34.46 a little bit larger. 00:40:34.50\00:40:35.83 And that is the twenty-four elders. 00:40:36.97\00:40:40.24 And what we're going to do now is we're going to transition, 00:40:40.27\00:40:43.14 we're going to transition into our next principle. 00:40:43.24\00:40:46.24 And that is, how do we use the writings of Ellen White 00:40:46.44\00:40:50.75 in relationship to our study of Bible prophecy? 00:40:51.65\00:40:54.65 Now at the top of the page, the handout that you have, 00:40:55.32\00:40:58.99 there are some suggestions as to how to search for 00:40:59.02\00:41:03.66 prophetic fulfillments in the commentary that Ellen White 00:41:03.69\00:41:06.13 gives of those prophetic fulfillments. 00:41:06.16\00:41:08.43 Point number one, look in the Ellen White Scripture index 00:41:09.53\00:41:14.64 to see if she has any comments on that particular verse 00:41:15.30\00:41:18.81 or passage that you are studying. 00:41:18.84\00:41:20.58 You know that there's a CD-ROM right? 00:41:21.11\00:41:23.24 And there's a place where you can click where it says, 00:41:23.61\00:41:26.58 Scripture References. 00:41:26.85\00:41:28.48 And you can find there a list of the verses 00:41:28.52\00:41:32.99 that Ellen White has quotations on. 00:41:33.09\00:41:34.92 So you want to do that. 00:41:35.22\00:41:36.79 After you've searched for verses that Ellen White 00:41:37.39\00:41:40.40 might have used in her writings, then you do a word search... 00:41:40.43\00:41:44.23 Not a text search, but a word search. 00:41:45.30\00:41:48.00 ...to see if she alludes to the language of the particular 00:41:48.67\00:41:52.77 verse or passage that you are studying. 00:41:52.81\00:41:54.78 So first you do the text, and then you look and see, 00:41:54.81\00:41:58.65 you know, you can punch in several words, 00:41:58.68\00:42:00.42 to see if she uses those combinations of words. 00:42:00.45\00:42:03.82 The next point. 00:42:04.82\00:42:06.15 If she does not quote the particular verses you are 00:42:06.19\00:42:08.92 studying, check and see if she quotes any verses 00:42:08.96\00:42:12.89 in the surrounding context of the verses or passage. 00:42:12.93\00:42:16.36 In other words, if she doesn't quote the verse, 00:42:17.23\00:42:19.60 you look at if she quotes verses that come before or after 00:42:19.63\00:42:23.77 the passage that you're studying. 00:42:23.81\00:42:25.41 Because if she quotes the verses that come before or after, 00:42:25.44\00:42:29.01 you might be able to find the context. 00:42:29.04\00:42:31.41 And we're going to see that when we take a look at 00:42:32.35\00:42:34.25 Daniel 11 tomorrow. 00:42:34.28\00:42:36.12 Finally, look for thematic parallels between the 00:42:36.99\00:42:41.22 Bible passage and Ellen White's writings. 00:42:41.26\00:42:43.83 In other words, look at the sequence of events 00:42:43.86\00:42:46.56 to see if the sequence that Ellen White presents 00:42:46.66\00:42:49.66 is similar to the sequence that we find in the passage 00:42:49.70\00:42:53.27 that you are studying. 00:42:53.30\00:42:54.64 Now let's take the twenty-four elders as an example. 00:42:55.60\00:42:58.94 How many times does Ellen White mention 00:42:59.57\00:43:02.68 twenty-four elders in her writings? 00:43:02.94\00:43:05.35 Zero. 00:43:06.55\00:43:07.92 So if you punch in, "twenty-four elders," 00:43:10.22\00:43:12.29 in the writings of Ellen White, you will find nothing. 00:43:12.32\00:43:15.42 So the conclusion is, Ellen White had nothing to say 00:43:16.19\00:43:19.53 about the twenty-four elders. 00:43:19.56\00:43:21.10 If you made that conclusion, you would be wrong. 00:43:23.06\00:43:25.77 And you would be missing out on something great. 00:43:25.97\00:43:28.37 Because Ellen White does have some very clear comments 00:43:29.17\00:43:32.21 on the twenty-four elders. 00:43:32.24\00:43:33.58 But you're not suppose to look only for twenty-four elders. 00:43:34.41\00:43:37.31 You're suppose to go to the Scripture index 00:43:37.35\00:43:39.81 to see if any of the verses in the surrounding context 00:43:39.85\00:43:43.02 are quoted by Ellen White. 00:43:43.05\00:43:44.55 Not the ones that say, "twenty-four elders," 00:43:44.59\00:43:46.52 but the verses that surround that. 00:43:46.55\00:43:48.52 And then you're suppose to go and see if you can find 00:43:49.22\00:43:52.29 some of the terminology that you find in 00:43:52.33\00:43:57.97 the context of the elders to see if Ellen White 00:43:58.30\00:44:00.87 uses that terminology. 00:44:00.90\00:44:02.24 And then look at the structure, the sequence of what 00:44:02.27\00:44:06.24 the Bible says about the twenty-four elders, 00:44:06.81\00:44:08.78 to see if Ellen White has a similar sequence. 00:44:08.81\00:44:10.91 Are you following me? 00:44:10.95\00:44:12.28 Now, you have in your material what I believe to be 00:44:12.41\00:44:17.35 Ellen White's clear interpretation of 00:44:17.39\00:44:19.25 who the twenty-four elders are. 00:44:19.29\00:44:20.86 The traditional view in the Adventist church 00:44:21.19\00:44:23.43 is that the twenty-four elders represent those who resurrected 00:44:23.46\00:44:26.93 with Christ, and they were taken to heaven with Christ 00:44:26.96\00:44:30.73 as the firstfruits of the great harvest of souls that would 00:44:30.77\00:44:34.04 come forth from the grave when Jesus comes for the second time. 00:44:34.07\00:44:37.77 As I've studied, I've discovered that, really, that is not 00:44:38.44\00:44:42.71 the correct interpretation. 00:44:42.74\00:44:44.21 And you're going to notice here the reason why. 00:44:45.15\00:44:47.95 In the last three pages of, The Desire of Ages, 00:44:49.15\00:44:52.29 pages 833-835, Ellen White describes the expectancy 00:44:52.69\00:44:58.53 of the heavenly beings as they anticipate 00:44:58.56\00:45:00.80 the ascension of Jesus. 00:45:00.83\00:45:02.16 In other words, she's commenting on Revelation 4. 00:45:02.20\00:45:04.67 There's a throne there. 00:45:05.43\00:45:06.87 There's one seated on the throne. 00:45:07.34\00:45:09.14 There's a rainbow over the throne. 00:45:09.64\00:45:11.61 Present there are four living creatures. 00:45:12.24\00:45:14.98 Present there are twenty-four elders. 00:45:15.38\00:45:17.95 And before the throne are the seven lamps of fire, 00:45:18.21\00:45:21.12 representing the Holy Spirit. 00:45:21.15\00:45:22.58 If you read the biblical passage, those are the 00:45:22.98\00:45:25.89 beings that are present there in Revelation 4. 00:45:25.92\00:45:28.22 But in Revelation 4, Jesus isn't there. 00:45:28.32\00:45:32.59 And the angelic hosts are not there. 00:45:33.09\00:45:35.06 And so you ask the question, you say, 00:45:35.70\00:45:37.20 "Why in Revelation 4 do you have the living creatures, 00:45:37.23\00:45:41.74 you have the twenty-four elders, you have a symbol for the 00:45:41.77\00:45:44.37 Holy Spirit, you have the Father sitting on the throne, 00:45:44.41\00:45:46.68 but Jesus isn't there and the angels aren't there. 00:45:46.78\00:45:49.54 And the reason is very simple. 00:45:49.58\00:45:50.95 A group of angels have gone to the gates of the city 00:45:51.88\00:45:54.58 to anticipate the arrival of Christ, 00:45:55.68\00:45:57.65 and other angels have come to earth to pick Him up. 00:45:57.69\00:46:00.22 And so in chapter 4, they're preparing the heavenly 00:46:01.06\00:46:03.02 throne room for the arrival of Jesus. 00:46:03.06\00:46:05.43 That's why Jesus isn't there. 00:46:06.93\00:46:08.56 And that's why the angelic hosts are not there. 00:46:09.20\00:46:11.93 Because some of them are there at the entrance to the city, 00:46:11.97\00:46:15.60 and then there are others who came to pick Jesus up 00:46:15.64\00:46:19.01 to take Him to heaven. 00:46:19.04\00:46:20.38 Was Jesus caught up in a cloud when He went to heaven? 00:46:20.58\00:46:22.84 He most certainly was. 00:46:23.18\00:46:24.61 Now, let's continue here. 00:46:24.95\00:46:26.48 They're anticipating the arrival of Jesus in heaven. 00:46:26.58\00:46:29.38 Now I'm going to read the statement from, Desire of Ages. 00:46:29.72\00:46:32.89 It's a long statement. 00:46:32.92\00:46:34.26 And I've added explanations in brackets. 00:46:34.29\00:46:38.39 Those are my words, not Ellen White's words. 00:46:38.49\00:46:41.03 Listen to what she says. 00:46:41.66\00:46:43.30 "All heaven was waiting to welcome the Saviour 00:46:44.10\00:46:46.97 to the celestial courts. 00:46:47.00\00:46:48.57 As He ascended, He led the way, 00:46:48.97\00:46:52.07 and the multitude of captives..." 00:46:52.27\00:46:55.11 So Jesus is ascending, and the captives are 00:46:56.51\00:46:58.45 coming with Him, right? 00:46:58.48\00:46:59.81 But the problem is, in Revelation chapter 4 00:47:00.15\00:47:02.75 the twenty-four elders were already there 00:47:03.35\00:47:04.92 before Jesus got there. 00:47:04.95\00:47:06.52 Are you with me? 00:47:08.59\00:47:09.92 Now she continues saying, "All heaven was waiting 00:47:11.83\00:47:13.86 to welcome the Saviour to the celestial courts. 00:47:13.90\00:47:16.06 As He ascended, He led the way, 00:47:16.10\00:47:17.80 and the multitude of captives set free at His 00:47:19.53\00:47:22.24 resurrection followed. 00:47:22.27\00:47:23.67 The heavenly host, with shouts and acclamations of praise 00:47:24.17\00:47:27.68 and celestial song, attended the joyous train." 00:47:27.71\00:47:30.38 So is the heavenly host with Him? 00:47:30.48\00:47:32.15 Absolutely. 00:47:32.35\00:47:33.68 "As they drew near to the city of God, 00:47:33.72\00:47:35.62 the challenge is given by the escorting angels, 00:47:35.65\00:47:37.99 'Lift up your heads, O ye gates; 00:47:38.02\00:47:39.72 and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; 00:47:39.92\00:47:42.12 and the King of glory shall come in.' 00:47:42.16\00:47:43.86 Joyfully the waiting sentinels respond..." 00:47:44.99\00:47:47.83 See, there's some inside too, right? 00:47:47.86\00:47:49.33 "...the waiting sentinels inside respond, 00:47:49.56\00:47:52.20 'Who is this King of glory?' 00:47:52.23\00:47:53.87 This they say, not because they know not who He is, 00:47:54.27\00:47:57.07 but because they would hear the answer of exalted praise, 00:47:57.11\00:47:59.87 'The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle! 00:48:00.11\00:48:02.81 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; 00:48:02.84\00:48:04.45 Even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; 00:48:04.65\00:48:07.02 And the King of glory shall come in.' 00:48:07.05\00:48:08.92 Again is heard the challenge, 'Who is this King of glory?' 00:48:09.52\00:48:12.35 For the angels never weary of hearing His name exalted. 00:48:12.59\00:48:15.99 The escorting angels make reply, 00:48:16.36\00:48:18.29 'The Lord of hosts; He is the King of glory.' 00:48:18.33\00:48:21.86 Then the portals of the city of God are opened wide, 00:48:22.13\00:48:25.90 and the angelic throng sweep through the gates amid 00:48:25.93\00:48:30.11 a burst of rapturous music." 00:48:30.21\00:48:32.91 And now notice, this is very interesting. 00:48:33.48\00:48:36.01 "There is the throne..." 00:48:36.04\00:48:38.08 Is there a throne in Revelation 4? 00:48:40.12\00:48:42.12 Revelation 4:2. 00:48:42.58\00:48:43.92 "...and around it the rainbow of promise." 00:48:43.95\00:48:46.29 Does Revelation 4 have a rainbow over the throne? 00:48:47.19\00:48:49.66 Revelation 4 verse 3. 00:48:49.86\00:48:51.49 "There are cherubim and seraphim." 00:48:51.69\00:48:54.56 Do you know, Revelation mentions the seraphim. 00:48:56.53\00:48:58.83 Because it says that the angels have six wings. 00:48:58.87\00:49:01.44 So, "There are cherubim and seraphim." 00:49:02.34\00:49:04.84 And then she uses three parallel phrases. 00:49:05.47\00:49:08.94 She uses three parallel phrases. 00:49:08.98\00:49:11.15 And some people have said, "Well, these are each 00:49:11.18\00:49:13.28 a different group." 00:49:13.31\00:49:14.65 But they're not. 00:49:14.68\00:49:16.02 They're the same group described in three different ways. 00:49:16.05\00:49:18.52 She says, "The commanders of the angel hosts, the sons of God, 00:49:18.65\00:49:23.22 the representatives of the unfallen worlds, are assembled." 00:49:23.83\00:49:27.16 Who would those be? 00:49:27.20\00:49:28.53 The twenty-four elders. 00:49:29.66\00:49:31.03 Because already she's spoken about the throne. 00:49:31.70\00:49:34.20 And of course, there's One sitting on the throne. 00:49:35.07\00:49:36.94 She's spoken about the cherubim and seraphim. 00:49:37.31\00:49:39.57 Those are the four living creatures, clearly. 00:49:39.61\00:49:41.81 So what is the only group that remains to be identified? 00:49:42.04\00:49:46.05 The twenty-four elders. 00:49:46.61\00:49:48.05 So she's saying that the twenty-four elders are the 00:49:48.32\00:49:50.82 commanders of the angel hosts, the sons of God, 00:49:50.85\00:49:53.62 the representatives of the unfallen worlds. 00:49:53.66\00:49:56.79 Then she explains. 00:49:57.13\00:49:58.46 "The heavenly council before which Lucifer had accused 00:49:58.49\00:50:01.06 God and His Son, the representatives of those 00:50:01.10\00:50:03.80 sinless realms over which Satan had thought to establish 00:50:03.83\00:50:07.20 his dominion, all are there to..." What? 00:50:07.24\00:50:10.41 "...to welcome the Redeemer. 00:50:10.61\00:50:12.17 They are eager to celebrate His triumph 00:50:12.21\00:50:14.61 and to glorify their King." 00:50:14.64\00:50:16.18 Now notice. 00:50:18.55\00:50:19.88 By the way, does Jesus present Himself in chapter 5? 00:50:19.91\00:50:23.49 How does He present Himself? 00:50:24.02\00:50:25.62 As the Lamb as though He had been slain. 00:50:26.15\00:50:28.66 Are the angels there too? 00:50:30.39\00:50:31.83 Ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands. 00:50:32.49\00:50:35.76 They were missing in chapter 4, but they are there in chapter 5. 00:50:36.20\00:50:39.70 Why are they in chapter 5? 00:50:39.97\00:50:41.40 Because they ascended with Jesus. 00:50:42.10\00:50:43.81 Now notice. 00:50:44.27\00:50:45.61 "But He waves them back. 00:50:45.64\00:50:47.08 Not yet. 00:50:47.41\00:50:48.81 He cannot now receive the coronet of glory 00:50:48.84\00:50:51.01 and the royal robe. 00:50:51.05\00:50:52.38 He enters into the presence of His Father." 00:50:52.45\00:50:55.12 Ah, we know who's the one seated on the throne now. 00:50:55.15\00:50:57.85 "He enters into the presence of His Father. 00:50:58.49\00:51:00.86 He points to His wounded head, the pierced side, 00:51:01.06\00:51:04.26 the marred feet; 00:51:04.29\00:51:05.63 He lifts His hands, bearing the print of the nails." 00:51:05.66\00:51:07.36 How is he presenting Himself? 00:51:07.40\00:51:08.86 As a Lamb as though it had been slain. 00:51:08.90\00:51:11.40 That's the terminology in Revelation. 00:51:12.70\00:51:14.44 It's not Ellen White's terminology. 00:51:14.47\00:51:16.27 Is she commenting on Revelation 4 and 5? 00:51:16.30\00:51:18.47 She most certainly is. 00:51:18.67\00:51:20.14 Now notice. 00:51:20.18\00:51:21.51 She continues saying, "He points to the tokens of His triumph; 00:51:21.88\00:51:24.91 He presents to God the wave sheaf, those raised with Him 00:51:25.81\00:51:29.02 as representatives of that great multitude who shall come forth 00:51:29.05\00:51:31.92 from the grave at His second coming. 00:51:31.95\00:51:33.86 He approaches the Father..." 00:51:35.39\00:51:36.96 That's the one who is seated on the throne. 00:51:38.09\00:51:39.76 "...with whom there is joy over one sinner that repents; 00:51:39.79\00:51:42.23 who rejoices over one with singing. 00:51:42.26\00:51:44.33 Before the foundations of the earth were laid, 00:51:44.37\00:51:46.33 the Father and the Son had united in a covenant 00:51:46.77\00:51:48.94 to redeem man if he should be overcome by Satan. 00:51:48.97\00:51:51.67 This pledge Christ has fulfilled." 00:51:52.84\00:51:54.84 Well, we need to go up a little bit. 00:51:55.14\00:51:57.95 "They had clasped Their hands in a solemn pledge 00:51:57.98\00:51:59.95 that Christ should become the surety for the human race. 00:51:59.98\00:52:02.75 This pledge Christ has fulfilled. 00:52:03.02\00:52:05.15 When upon the cross He cried out, 'It is finished,' 00:52:05.19\00:52:07.36 He addressed the Father. 00:52:07.39\00:52:08.82 The compact had been fully carried out. 00:52:08.86\00:52:11.03 Now He declares, 'Father, it is finished. 00:52:11.39\00:52:13.26 I have done Thy will, O My God. 00:52:13.46\00:52:15.03 I have completed the work of redemption. 00:52:15.13\00:52:17.00 If Thy justice is satisfied, "I will that they also, 00:52:17.23\00:52:21.27 whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am."'" 00:52:21.30\00:52:24.34 So Jesus is saying, "I need to know if My sacrifice 00:52:26.11\00:52:28.81 is sufficient to bring My people home." 00:52:28.84\00:52:30.81 "The voice of God is heard proclaiming 00:52:31.51\00:52:33.42 that justice is satisfied. 00:52:33.45\00:52:35.15 Satan is vanquished. 00:52:35.18\00:52:36.69 Christ's toiling, struggling ones on earth 00:52:36.72\00:52:39.89 are 'accepted in the Beloved.' 00:52:39.92\00:52:41.59 Before the heavenly angels..." 00:52:41.89\00:52:43.26 Now notice. 00:52:43.29\00:52:44.63 "Before the heavenly angels and the representatives 00:52:44.73\00:52:47.70 of the unfallen worlds..." 00:52:47.73\00:52:49.10 Are they two different groups? 00:52:49.13\00:52:50.47 Absolutely. 00:52:50.90\00:52:52.23 "...they are declared justified. 00:52:52.60\00:52:54.40 Where He is, there His church shall be. 00:52:54.50\00:52:56.97 'Mercy and truth are met together; 00:52:57.01\00:52:58.67 righteousness and peace have kissed each other.' 00:52:58.71\00:53:01.14 The Father's arms encircle His Son, and the word is given, 00:53:01.24\00:53:04.15 'Let all the angels of God worship Him.'" 00:53:04.18\00:53:06.88 And now you say, "How do you know that... 00:53:06.92\00:53:08.98 How did you find this out?" 00:53:09.08\00:53:10.55 Because Ellen White quotes verses that come afterwards. 00:53:10.89\00:53:14.26 She quotes Revelation 5:12-13. 00:53:16.29\00:53:19.66 And so if she quotes Revelation 5:12-13, 00:53:20.50\00:53:23.80 then I need to read what comes before. 00:53:23.83\00:53:26.23 Are you understanding? 00:53:27.84\00:53:29.17 "With joy unutterable, rulers and principalities and powers 00:53:30.17\00:53:33.17 acknowledge the supremacy of the Prince of life. 00:53:33.21\00:53:35.68 The angel host prostrate themselves before Him, 00:53:36.11\00:53:39.18 while the glad shout fills all the courts of heaven, 00:53:39.21\00:53:41.72 'Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, 00:53:41.82\00:53:44.25 and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, 00:53:44.29\00:53:46.15 and glory, and blessing.' 00:53:46.19\00:53:47.52 Revelation 5 verse 12. 00:53:47.56\00:53:49.19 Songs of triumph mingle with the music from angel harps, 00:53:49.46\00:53:53.06 till heaven seems to overflow with joy and praise. 00:53:53.09\00:53:55.90 Love has conquered. The lost is found. 00:53:56.00\00:53:58.43 Heaven rings with voices in lofty strains proclaiming, 00:53:58.53\00:54:01.57 'Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, 00:54:01.97\00:54:04.91 be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, 00:54:05.11\00:54:07.81 and unto the Lamb forever and ever.' 00:54:07.84\00:54:09.64 Revelation 5 and verse 13." 00:54:09.68\00:54:12.61 So are we on the right track? 00:54:14.02\00:54:15.78 She does quote verses. 00:54:15.82\00:54:17.15 She doesn't say, "Twenty-four elders," 00:54:17.19\00:54:20.16 but she quotes verses. 00:54:20.19\00:54:21.76 And you can work your way backwards 00:54:21.79\00:54:23.96 to find out how she understood the twenty-four elders. 00:54:24.39\00:54:28.03 Now some people say, "Oh Pastor Bohr, 00:54:28.23\00:54:31.40 but you're wrong, because the expression, 00:54:31.43\00:54:33.30 'sons of God,' 'representatives of the unfallen worlds,' 00:54:33.34\00:54:36.97 and, 'the commanders of the angel host,' 00:54:37.51\00:54:40.74 those are three different groups." 00:54:40.78\00:54:42.31 No they're not. 00:54:42.34\00:54:43.68 That is a common way of Ellen White expressing things. 00:54:43.85\00:54:47.08 Emphasizing the same thing three times. 00:54:47.12\00:54:49.88 Let me give you here three examples. 00:54:49.92\00:54:52.35 In the middle of the page, Christian Service, page 42. 00:54:53.09\00:54:56.16 "Revival signifies a renewal of spiritual life, 00:54:57.13\00:55:01.66 a quickening of the powers of mind and heart, 00:55:02.46\00:55:05.77 a resurrection from spiritual death." 00:55:06.07\00:55:08.40 Are those three phrases the same thing? 00:55:08.94\00:55:10.77 Yes they are. 00:55:11.27\00:55:12.61 Notice another one. 00:55:12.67\00:55:14.04 3 Selected Messages, page 392. 00:55:14.14\00:55:16.71 She says, "There will be a universal bond of union, 00:55:16.91\00:55:19.85 one great harmony, 00:55:20.12\00:55:21.75 a confederacy of Satan's forces." 00:55:21.78\00:55:24.35 Is that the same thing in different words? 00:55:24.72\00:55:26.92 Absolutely. 00:55:26.96\00:55:28.29 And then we have in, Desire of Ages, page 530, 00:55:28.32\00:55:30.93 she says, "In Christ is life; 00:55:30.96\00:55:32.69 original, unborrowed, underived." 00:55:33.06\00:55:36.36 It is a common way of Ellen White writing. 00:55:36.63\00:55:38.70 So you're not dealing with three separate groups. 00:55:39.00\00:55:41.84 You are dealing with one specific group. 00:55:41.87\00:55:45.01 So the question is, who are the twenty-four elders? 00:55:45.04\00:55:47.24 Does Ellen White have anything to say about the 00:55:47.28\00:55:49.64 twenty-four elders? 00:55:49.68\00:55:51.01 Yes she does. 00:55:51.68\00:55:53.01 Would you know it if you looked for the expression? 00:55:53.05\00:55:56.92 No. 00:55:56.95\00:55:58.29 Would you know it if you looked for verses where the 00:55:58.32\00:56:00.06 twenty-four elders appear? 00:56:00.09\00:56:01.42 No, you wouldn't know it. 00:56:01.62\00:56:02.96 And so you say, "Well, Ellen White doesn't have anything 00:56:02.99\00:56:06.19 to say about the twenty-four elders." 00:56:06.23\00:56:07.66 Yes she does. 00:56:07.70\00:56:09.03 What you do is you look if she quotes any verses 00:56:09.30\00:56:12.20 either before or after. 00:56:12.23\00:56:13.57 And then you work your way backwards 00:56:13.60\00:56:16.40 or you work your way forwards. 00:56:16.44\00:56:18.24 Because she's using those text in context. 00:56:18.57\00:56:21.24 And you know that what comes before 00:56:21.28\00:56:22.98 is connected with that quote. 00:56:23.01\00:56:25.71 Are you with me? 00:56:25.75\00:56:27.08 And we're going to find this time and again 00:56:27.32\00:56:29.58 in the writings of Ellen G. White 00:56:29.62\00:56:31.35 where she doesn't seem to refer to anything. 00:56:31.69\00:56:34.72 Like, for example, tomorrow afternoon we're going to 00:56:34.76\00:56:36.69 talk about Daniel 11:40-45. 00:56:36.73\00:56:39.03 Not once does Ellen White quote those verses. 00:56:40.26\00:56:42.66 She doesn't even use the language from those verses. 00:56:42.70\00:56:45.73 And so people say, "Ellen White had nothing to say 00:56:45.77\00:56:48.20 about Daniel 11:40-45." 00:56:48.24\00:56:50.31 But you know what's interesting? 00:56:50.34\00:56:51.67 She does have something to say about 00:56:51.71\00:56:53.27 Daniel chapter 12 and verse 1. 00:56:53.31\00:56:55.11 The very next verse. 00:56:55.94\00:56:57.45 And so we're going to work our way backwards. 00:56:57.95\00:57:00.05 And we're going to see that with the reference point of 00:57:00.38\00:57:02.72 Daniel 12 verse 1, we can find in her writings 00:57:02.75\00:57:06.32 what she had to say about what comes before 00:57:06.35\00:57:09.22 Daniel chapter 12 and verse 1. 00:57:09.26\00:57:11.03 We're going to do the same thing in our next session together 00:57:11.49\00:57:14.33 when we study about the battle of Armageddon. 00:57:14.36\00:57:16.70 You see, she doesn't use in, Great Controversy, 00:57:17.07\00:57:20.67 the word, "Armageddon." 00:57:20.70\00:57:22.04 So some people say, you know, "Ellen White didn't have 00:57:22.07\00:57:23.84 anything to say in Revelation about Armageddon." 00:57:23.87\00:57:26.31 Don't fool yourself. 00:57:26.34\00:57:27.68 She had a lot to say about Armageddon. 00:57:28.21\00:57:30.28 But she just doesn't use the word. 00:57:30.48\00:57:32.18 Don't necessarily look for the word. 00:57:32.28\00:57:34.02 Don't necessarily look for the text. 00:57:34.05\00:57:36.08 Look for the structure. 00:57:36.18\00:57:38.42 Look for where she quotes surrounding verses 00:57:38.45\00:57:41.32 and uses similar terminology. 00:57:41.36\00:57:43.86
