Okay, welcome once again. 00:00:15.75\00:00:18.18 Are we all having a good time? 00:00:18.21\00:00:19.79 Ah, the study of the Bible is wonderful. 00:00:20.50\00:00:22.57 It's better than real food. 00:00:22.60\00:00:24.25 Well it is real food, let me put it that way. 00:00:24.45\00:00:27.04 It's better than material physical food 00:00:27.07\00:00:29.04 that we partake of. 00:00:29.07\00:00:30.36 At least I enjoy it more. 00:00:30.39\00:00:32.00 We're going to study now principle number eight 00:00:33.25\00:00:36.70 in our syllabus. 00:00:36.73\00:00:38.02 We are on page 22 of our syllabus. 00:00:38.45\00:00:41.43 And basically, this principle states in a nutshell, 00:00:41.99\00:00:46.46 the year/day principle must be applied 00:00:46.94\00:00:49.90 to the time periods in apocalyptic prophecy. 00:00:50.24\00:00:55.12 When I say apocalyptic prophecy, I'm referring primarily to the 00:00:55.15\00:00:58.47 books of Daniel and Revelation. 00:00:58.50\00:01:00.87 And you have the handout, it has 11 pages. 00:01:01.28\00:01:05.36 And I'd just like to say that those who are listening 00:01:05.91\00:01:09.70 or watching this on the streaming, 00:01:09.73\00:01:12.89 and those who will watch this programming later on 00:01:13.18\00:01:16.35 on television, these materials area available 00:01:16.38\00:01:19.67 from Secrets Unsealed. 00:01:19.70\00:01:21.24 So those who are not here right now, you can contact 00:01:21.27\00:01:26.55 Secrets Unsealed and these handouts, as well as 00:01:26.58\00:01:29.92 the presentations, will be available. 00:01:29.95\00:01:32.56 So I just want to make that clear. 00:01:32.66\00:01:34.19 Now let's go to our, Introductory Matters. 00:01:34.22\00:01:36.62 As we begin our study, we need to underline 00:01:37.55\00:01:42.08 two very important facts. 00:01:42.11\00:01:44.79 First of all, the Bible month consists of 30 days. 00:01:45.98\00:01:51.77 Now I don't have the time to go into the text 00:01:52.20\00:01:55.64 that prove that the biblical month has 30 days, 00:01:56.17\00:01:59.40 but you can do that. 00:01:59.43\00:02:00.66 I'm just going to give the references. 00:02:00.69\00:02:02.32 You need to compare Genesis 7:11 00:02:02.52\00:02:05.15 with Genesis 8:3-4, and then compare Deuteronomy 21:13 00:02:05.50\00:02:11.70 with Deuteronomy 34 verse 8. 00:02:11.90\00:02:14.99 And then you can also look at Esther 4:11, 00:02:15.37\00:02:18.65 and Daniel 6 verse 7 and verse 12. 00:02:18.68\00:02:22.47 So if you look at those verses, you're going to find that the 00:02:22.50\00:02:25.29 biblical month consists of 30 days. 00:02:25.32\00:02:29.69 Also, the Bible year consists of 12 months. 00:02:30.68\00:02:35.87 And the text for that are 1 Kings 4 verse 7 00:02:36.77\00:02:39.94 and 1 Chronicles chapter 27 and verses 1 through 15 00:02:40.24\00:02:44.09 where the months are actually named. 00:02:44.12\00:02:47.05 And so, we need to know from the get go 00:02:47.15\00:02:50.55 that the biblical month has 30 days and the biblical year 00:02:50.58\00:02:53.91 has 12 months. 00:02:53.94\00:02:55.98 That's crucially important. 00:02:56.01\00:02:57.47 The year/day principle basically means that when the time periods 00:02:58.06\00:03:02.66 are used in the context of apocalyptic events, 00:03:02.94\00:03:07.00 that's primarily Daniel and Revelation, 00:03:07.21\00:03:09.21 which occur between the year 34 and the second coming of Christ, 00:03:09.55\00:03:15.27 they are to be understood by applying the principle 00:03:16.08\00:03:19.26 that one literal calendar day is equivalent to 00:03:19.36\00:03:23.32 one literal calendar year. 00:03:23.35\00:03:25.77 This is known as the year/day principle, 00:03:26.57\00:03:29.71 or the day/year principle. 00:03:30.61\00:03:33.33 Day for a year. 00:03:33.36\00:03:34.97 The preterist and futurist schools, 00:03:35.89\00:03:38.57 which we've taken a look at already, 00:03:38.60\00:03:40.37 adamantly deny the year/day principle. 00:03:41.27\00:03:44.67 Most preterist interpret the little horn of Daniel 7, 00:03:45.51\00:03:50.54 as well as the little horn of Daniel chapter 8, 00:03:51.04\00:03:54.25 as a nasty individual called Antiochus Epiphanes 00:03:54.81\00:03:58.95 who ruled from 171 BC to 164 BC. 00:03:59.28\00:04:03.80 And basically, he was a Macedonian ruler 00:04:05.03\00:04:09.37 who desecrated the Jewish temple from 167 to 164 BC. 00:04:09.57\00:04:14.87 And preterist believe that the three and one half years 00:04:15.31\00:04:19.17 and the 2300 days are literal time and they apply 00:04:19.20\00:04:24.26 to the period of dominion of Antiochus Epiphanes 00:04:24.46\00:04:27.93 towards the end of the Old Testament period. 00:04:28.19\00:04:30.56 So in other words, these periods have no relevance for us today 00:04:30.84\00:04:33.62 because they were fulfilled in the distant past. 00:04:33.65\00:04:36.42 On the other hand, most futurist teach that the 00:04:37.60\00:04:41.04 little horn of Daniel 7 represents a future 00:04:41.07\00:04:44.87 personal antichrist who will sit in a rebuilt Jewish temple 00:04:44.90\00:04:50.60 in the Middle East for three and one half literal years 00:04:51.42\00:04:55.87 at the end of the Christian dispensation. 00:04:56.07\00:04:58.98 Or towards the end of the Christian dispensation. 00:04:59.26\00:05:02.05 They also believe that the little horn of Daniel 8 00:05:02.72\00:05:05.75 represents Antiochus Epiphanes, and that the 2300 days 00:05:06.12\00:05:11.42 are literal time. 00:05:11.52\00:05:13.82 The common denominator of both systems 00:05:14.72\00:05:19.58 is that they believe that the three and one half times 00:05:19.91\00:05:23.63 and the 2300 days are to be taken as literal time. 00:05:23.87\00:05:30.03 In contrast, historicism, or the historical flow method, 00:05:31.00\00:05:36.26 as I prefer to call it, has always held that 00:05:36.29\00:05:40.18 days, weeks, months, and years in an apocalyptic context 00:05:40.21\00:05:49.62 should be understood symbolically 00:05:49.65\00:05:51.97 by applying the year/day principle. 00:05:52.17\00:05:55.00 So do you understand the contrast 00:05:55.03\00:05:56.74 between these systems of interpretation? 00:05:56.77\00:05:59.09 Preterism and futurism says that the time periods 00:05:59.47\00:06:03.64 are literal time, whereas the historical flow method 00:06:03.67\00:06:08.44 teaches that these time periods are to be understood 00:06:08.47\00:06:11.56 on the basis of the year/day principle. 00:06:11.59\00:06:13.96 That each literal day stands for a literal year. 00:06:13.99\00:06:17.94 Now I want to share with you 20 reasons for applying 00:06:18.69\00:06:23.29 the year/day principle. 00:06:23.32\00:06:24.92 And some of these reasons are quite complex. 00:06:25.67\00:06:30.14 I've tried to simplify them as much as possible. 00:06:30.17\00:06:33.27 And I hope that you've read this material in advance, 00:06:33.59\00:06:36.86 because it will be very, very helpful 00:06:37.06\00:06:40.16 in our going through this material. 00:06:40.19\00:06:43.14 Reason number one; the expression, 00:06:43.92\00:06:47.48 "time, times, and the dividing of time," 00:06:47.78\00:06:50.84 "42 months," "1260 days," and "70 weeks," 00:06:51.53\00:06:57.54 are very peculiar. 00:06:57.57\00:06:59.23 Would you agree? 00:06:59.26\00:07:00.56 They could have been expressed in literal language, 00:07:01.00\00:07:04.70 but instead they are given a symbolic flavor. 00:07:05.45\00:07:09.40 Notice, for example, that Luke 4:25 and James 5:17 00:07:10.55\00:07:16.85 refer to the period when there was no rain 00:07:17.27\00:07:20.26 in the days of Elijah as three years and six months. 00:07:20.29\00:07:26.23 This is the normal way of expressing time. 00:07:27.05\00:07:30.67 Isn't it? 00:07:31.53\00:07:32.69 Three years and six months, or three and a half years. 00:07:32.89\00:07:35.84 That's the normal way. 00:07:35.87\00:07:36.99 But the apocalyptic passages do not use the normal way 00:07:37.57\00:07:41.66 of expressing time. 00:07:41.69\00:07:43.16 They use peculiar expressions. 00:07:44.34\00:07:46.94 It is significant that every measurement 00:07:47.55\00:07:50.71 of calendar time in prophecy is given a symbolic flavor. 00:07:51.04\00:07:56.36 "Hour," Revelation 12:17 and 9:13. 00:07:57.05\00:08:01.27 "Day," Revelation 12 verse 6. 00:08:01.87\00:08:04.56 "Week," Daniel 9:24-27. 00:08:04.76\00:08:08.10 "Month," Revelation 13 verse 5. 00:08:08.36\00:08:12.23 And "year," Daniel 7:25. 00:08:12.26\00:08:15.42 Do you notice all of the measurements of time 00:08:15.45\00:08:17.58 use this principle? 00:08:17.96\00:08:19.43 It is also significant that non apocalyptic prophecies, 00:08:19.89\00:08:24.78 that is classical prophecies and typological prophecies, 00:08:24.81\00:08:29.00 express time in literal language. 00:08:29.20\00:08:31.94 Like for example, 70 years of Babylonian captivity. 00:08:32.39\00:08:36.72 400 years that Israel would spend in Egypt. 00:08:37.06\00:08:41.52 120 years at the time of the flood. 00:08:41.55\00:08:45.19 So when you're dealing with literal persons 00:08:45.82\00:08:48.86 performing literal actions, you have literal time periods. 00:08:48.89\00:08:53.19 Does that make sense? 00:08:53.22\00:08:54.61 Reason number two; the symbolic time periods are always found 00:08:55.43\00:09:00.41 within the context of apocalyptic passages 00:09:00.44\00:09:04.80 where symbols predominate. 00:09:04.83\00:09:07.30 Are you understanding this point? 00:09:08.50\00:09:09.93 In other words, the time periods are used with a host of other 00:09:10.32\00:09:13.40 symbols in the same context. 00:09:13.43\00:09:15.94 For example, the three and one half times 00:09:16.26\00:09:19.65 are found in the context of four symbolic beasts, 00:09:19.85\00:09:22.75 a symbolic sea, symbolic winds, symbolic clouds, symbolic horns, 00:09:22.95\00:09:28.03 and a symbolic little horn. 00:09:28.06\00:09:29.74 So would you expect the time period to be symbolic? 00:09:30.71\00:09:33.12 Of course. 00:09:33.15\00:09:34.27 Similarly, the 1260 days are found in the context 00:09:34.60\00:09:39.53 where a symbolic woman clothed with a symbolic sun 00:09:39.56\00:09:43.12 stands on a symbolic moon 00:09:43.15\00:09:45.04 with twelve symbolic stars on her head. 00:09:45.24\00:09:47.35 She is persecuted by a symbolic dragon 00:09:47.54\00:09:49.97 who has seven symbolic heads, ten symbolic horns, 00:09:50.00\00:09:53.25 and who casts a third of the symbolic stars to the earth. 00:09:53.28\00:09:56.11 So why would the time period not be symbolic? 00:09:56.90\00:09:59.74 In Revelation 13, the 42 months are found within a context 00:10:00.79\00:10:05.51 where a symbolic composite beast with ten symbolic horns 00:10:05.61\00:10:10.23 receives its power from a symbolic dragon. 00:10:10.26\00:10:12.81 It also arises from a symbolic sea, raises a symbolic image 00:10:13.01\00:10:21.30 beast to impose a symbolic mark. 00:10:21.33\00:10:24.71 So once again, the time period is expressed within a very 00:10:25.13\00:10:29.06 symbolic context where symbols predominate. 00:10:29.09\00:10:32.87 The same could be said about Daniel 8 00:10:33.63\00:10:35.62 where the 2300 day prophecy is found. 00:10:35.65\00:10:37.97 We have a symbolic ram, a symbolic he goat, 00:10:38.46\00:10:42.62 and a symbolic little horn. 00:10:42.65\00:10:44.73 It only stands to reason that if the scenes 00:10:45.25\00:10:48.20 where these time periods are found in are symbolic, 00:10:48.23\00:10:52.61 then the time periods must also be symbolic. 00:10:52.81\00:10:56.97 Now does that make sense? 00:10:57.74\00:10:59.18 Absolutely. 00:10:59.73\00:11:00.81 Reason number three. 00:11:01.39\00:11:02.42 We're on a roll. Praise the Lord. 00:11:02.45\00:11:04.61 The little horn of Daniel 7 arose among the ten horns 00:11:05.47\00:11:10.04 on the head of the fourth beast. 00:11:10.07\00:11:11.90 It is clear from history that the Roman Empire 00:11:12.41\00:11:16.72 was fragmented when the barbarians came from the 00:11:16.75\00:11:19.74 northern sector of the Empire and carved it up. 00:11:19.77\00:11:23.00 Daniel 7 makes it clear that there are no gaps 00:11:23.49\00:11:26.93 in the historical flow of nations. 00:11:26.96\00:11:29.14 The lion is succeeded immediately by the bear. 00:11:29.44\00:11:32.10 The bear is immediately succeeded by the leopard. 00:11:32.41\00:11:35.26 The leopard is immediately succeeded by the dragon beast. 00:11:35.48\00:11:38.75 The dragon beast then sprouts the ten horns. 00:11:38.92\00:11:41.85 And the little horn then rises among the ten. 00:11:41.88\00:11:44.92 Are you following the sequence? 00:11:44.95\00:11:46.73 Now, if the little horn arose among the ten, 00:11:47.32\00:11:51.37 and the ten were complete in 476 AD, 00:11:52.30\00:11:56.02 and the little horn ruled until the judgment... 00:11:56.70\00:12:00.21 Are you understanding me? 00:12:02.07\00:12:03.22 When does the judgment begin? 00:12:03.25\00:12:04.76 In 1844. 00:12:05.17\00:12:07.07 ...then the three and one half times of the dominion 00:12:07.28\00:12:09.80 of the little horn must be 1260 years and not literal days. 00:12:09.83\00:12:15.05 Are you catching the point? 00:12:15.84\00:12:17.16 If the days were literal, then the little horn would 00:12:18.88\00:12:22.38 have ruled only from 476 to 479 AD. 00:12:22.41\00:12:27.35 But the fact is, that the Roman Catholic Church 00:12:27.38\00:12:30.25 ruled for 1260 years. 00:12:30.28\00:12:33.95 Does that reason make sense? 00:12:34.92\00:12:36.58 Reason number four; Daniel 8 makes it crystal clear 00:12:37.52\00:12:43.45 that the 2300 day prophecy was for the time of the end. 00:12:43.65\00:12:48.03 Is that clear? 00:12:50.13\00:12:51.29 Several times, Daniel 8:14, Daniel 8:17, 00:12:52.06\00:12:56.02 and Daniel 8 verses 26 and 27 say that this prophecy is 00:12:56.12\00:13:00.28 for the time of the end. 00:13:00.31\00:13:01.87 Daniel 12 verses 4 and 7 underscore the fact 00:13:02.38\00:13:07.62 that the book which contains the 2300 day prophecy 00:13:07.65\00:13:11.04 would be closed and sealed until the time of the end. 00:13:11.20\00:13:15.02 And therefore, could not be understood until then. 00:13:15.12\00:13:18.08 This being the case, those who believe that Antiochus 00:13:18.83\00:13:22.55 is the little horn of Daniel 8 find themselves 00:13:22.58\00:13:25.48 in a serious dilemma. 00:13:25.51\00:13:27.40 Assuming that Antiochus is represented by the little horn 00:13:28.36\00:13:32.06 of Daniel 8, and that the 2300 days was the literal 00:13:32.26\00:13:36.92 time period of his dominion, a question immediately 00:13:36.95\00:13:40.62 comes to the fore. 00:13:40.65\00:13:41.94 Why would we have to wait until the time of the end 00:13:42.33\00:13:45.04 to understand this? 00:13:45.07\00:13:46.31 Are you following me? 00:13:47.20\00:13:48.47 Because it says this aspect of the 2300 days 00:13:48.81\00:13:52.03 could not be understood until the time of the end. 00:13:52.06\00:13:54.26 But if it was fulfilled by Antiochus Epiphanes, 00:13:55.58\00:13:57.84 why would we have to wait until the time of the end 00:13:57.87\00:14:00.37 to understand it? 00:14:00.40\00:14:01.43 You could have understood it already. 00:14:02.26\00:14:04.70 Now continuing. 00:14:06.74\00:14:08.01 Yet we know that they were not living in the time of the end 00:14:08.80\00:14:11.51 because over 2000 years of history have 00:14:11.54\00:14:13.73 transpired since that time. 00:14:13.76\00:14:15.18 We're talking here about Porphyry when the first 00:14:15.38\00:14:18.86 centuries of the Christian era believed that 00:14:18.89\00:14:21.27 Antiochus Epiphanes was the little horn of Daniel 8. 00:14:21.30\00:14:24.87 Now if they were right, then they were living 00:14:26.53\00:14:29.32 in the time of the end, right? 00:14:29.35\00:14:30.77 If Porphyry is right and the little horn represents 00:14:31.26\00:14:34.67 Antiochus Epiphanes, then they were living 00:14:34.70\00:14:37.00 in the time of the end, because this prophecy 00:14:37.03\00:14:38.87 is for the time of the end. 00:14:38.90\00:14:40.35 Now the next paragraph. 00:14:41.59\00:14:43.07 The simply reality is that Antiochus did not fulfill 00:14:43.88\00:14:47.84 the little horn prophecy. 00:14:47.87\00:14:49.25 Josephus and others mistakenly identified 00:14:49.82\00:14:53.08 Antiochus as the fulfillment. 00:14:53.11\00:14:54.90 They could not have comprehended the little horn prophecy 00:14:55.18\00:14:58.37 because they did not live in the time of the end. 00:14:58.47\00:15:01.41 Are you understanding this point? 00:15:01.84\00:15:03.58 Very important point. 00:15:03.79\00:15:04.95 If the prophecy, folks, is for the time of the end, 00:15:04.98\00:15:07.54 the 2300 day prophecy is for the time of the end, 00:15:07.57\00:15:09.68 then Antiochus Epiphanes could not have fulfilled it. 00:15:10.27\00:15:14.94 Because you would have understood that it was 00:15:15.18\00:15:16.90 fulfilled in his time. 00:15:16.93\00:15:18.66 So we continue. 00:15:20.25\00:15:21.28 Josephus and others mistakenly identified 00:15:21.31\00:15:23.94 Antiochus as the fulfillment. 00:15:23.97\00:15:25.63 They could not have comprehended the little horn prophecy 00:15:25.97\00:15:28.61 because they did not live in the time of the end. 00:15:28.64\00:15:30.87 It is clear that this prophecy was not present truth 00:15:31.31\00:15:34.71 in the days of Daniel or of Josephus, 00:15:34.74\00:15:37.70 or even of Martin Luther. 00:15:37.73\00:15:39.78 None of these men lived in the time of the end, 00:15:40.29\00:15:42.65 and therefore, none of them could understand this prophecy. 00:15:42.85\00:15:46.38 It became present truth when the prophecy was fulfilled in 1844. 00:15:46.98\00:15:52.17 What was the central verse that was used 00:15:52.20\00:15:54.16 by the Millerite movement? 00:15:54.19\00:15:55.76 "Unto 2300 days, and the Sanctuary shall be cleansed." 00:15:56.16\00:15:59.71 Is that the time when this prophecy was understood? 00:15:59.74\00:16:03.32 Yes. 00:16:03.40\00:16:04.43 So it was not understood in the past. 00:16:04.46\00:16:05.90 So the 2300 days must have been what? 00:16:05.93\00:16:09.03 They must have been years. 00:16:09.68\00:16:11.61 Because they reach way back from the time that the 00:16:11.95\00:16:14.32 command is given to build Jerusalem and restore Jerusalem 00:16:14.35\00:16:17.36 all the way until 1844. 00:16:17.39\00:16:19.35 It has to be years. 00:16:19.38\00:16:20.84 It can't be days. 00:16:21.35\00:16:22.79 This is why the Millerites preached on this very text. 00:16:23.88\00:16:26.90 The book of Daniel was being opened. 00:16:26.93\00:16:30.16 And now the time period of the 2300 days 00:16:30.19\00:16:32.99 could be understood. 00:16:33.02\00:16:34.31 Is this point clear? 00:16:34.34\00:16:35.86 Let's go to reason number five. 00:16:36.84\00:16:38.69 The vision of Daniel 8... 00:16:39.68\00:16:41.89 This should be 1 through 12, incidentally. 00:16:41.92\00:16:45.25 ...covers the whole period of the ram, the he goat, 00:16:45.67\00:16:51.53 and the little horn until the cleansing of the Sanctuary. 00:16:52.08\00:16:54.72 This is a very important point. 00:16:54.75\00:16:56.26 The vision that is shown to Daniel 00:16:56.75\00:16:59.10 goes from the times of the ram to the he goat, 00:16:59.95\00:17:04.03 and then to the point when the judgment begins, 00:17:04.43\00:17:07.96 when the cleansing of the Sanctuary begins. 00:17:07.99\00:17:10.27 That's the vision. 00:17:10.30\00:17:11.67 And there's a particular Hebrew word that is used there, 00:17:12.29\00:17:15.22 which is the word, "chazon." 00:17:15.25\00:17:17.25 That's the word, "vision," that is used. 00:17:18.19\00:17:20.15 Now in Daniel 8 verse 13 the question is asked, 00:17:20.69\00:17:25.14 "Until when shall the vision be?" 00:17:25.47\00:17:27.88 What vision is it referring to? 00:17:28.88\00:17:30.61 The whole vision. 00:17:31.18\00:17:32.38 It's the same word that is used in verses 1 and 2 00:17:32.87\00:17:35.53 where Daniel says, "I saw a vision." 00:17:35.56\00:17:37.58 So it includes the ram, it includes the he goat, 00:17:38.17\00:17:42.05 and it includes the time when the judgment begins. 00:17:42.08\00:17:45.80 The context indicates that the word, "vision," includes the 00:17:46.53\00:17:49.95 totality of what Daniel had seen in Daniel 8 to that point. 00:17:49.98\00:17:54.22 Then in Daniel 8 verse 15, we are told that Daniel 00:17:54.99\00:17:58.65 wished to comprehend the vision. 00:17:58.68\00:18:01.36 Same word. 00:18:01.59\00:18:02.69 He wanted to comprehend the vision. 00:18:02.79\00:18:04.94 What does the vision include, folks? 00:18:04.97\00:18:07.19 It includes the ram, it includes the he goat, 00:18:07.64\00:18:10.53 all the way to the time when the Sanctuary 00:18:10.56\00:18:12.92 is going to be cleansed. 00:18:12.95\00:18:15.11 The answer is simple. 00:18:15.97\00:18:17.19 Which vision? That's the question. 00:18:17.22\00:18:19.01 Which vision is this talking about? 00:18:19.04\00:18:20.80 The answer is simple. 00:18:20.90\00:18:22.12 It must be the totality of the vision of Daniel 8, 00:18:22.32\00:18:25.74 because when the angel Gabriel comes to explain the vision 00:18:25.89\00:18:29.51 in answer to Daniel's request, he begins with Persia 00:18:29.54\00:18:33.42 and then continues with Greece, the little horn, 00:18:33.72\00:18:37.44 and culminates with the conclusion of the 2300 days 00:18:37.47\00:18:40.80 when the Sanctuary is to be cleansed. 00:18:40.83\00:18:43.12 So the word, "vision," includes the totality 00:18:44.07\00:18:46.51 of the vision, right? 00:18:46.54\00:18:47.73 It includes the ram, the he goat, the little horn, 00:18:47.83\00:18:52.14 up to the point when the Sanctuary is to be cleansed, 00:18:52.34\00:18:55.21 or the judgment is to begin. 00:18:55.24\00:18:57.55 Thus it is clear that the 2300 days, which cover 00:18:58.69\00:19:04.14 the whole vision of Daniel 8, must involve what? 00:19:04.17\00:19:08.90 Centuries, not literal days. 00:19:09.15\00:19:12.24 And literal days would be six and one half literal years, 00:19:12.73\00:19:17.20 approximately. 00:19:17.23\00:19:18.44 Incidentally, this explains the reason why 00:19:18.67\00:19:21.92 Daniel 8 begins with Persia and not with Babylon. 00:19:21.95\00:19:24.80 You know, usually we say, "Well the reason why Daniel 8 00:19:24.83\00:19:27.41 doesn't begin with a symbol for Babylon is because 00:19:27.44\00:19:29.63 Babylon is about to disappear from history. 00:19:29.66\00:19:32.22 That's not the real reason. 00:19:32.25\00:19:33.70 Because Babylon was still going to rule for 12 years. 00:19:35.67\00:19:38.27 So Babylon was not at the point of passing away. 00:19:39.17\00:19:41.73 There's another reason why Daniel 8 begins with Persia 00:19:42.48\00:19:47.01 instead of beginning with Babylon like 00:19:47.04\00:19:48.54 Daniel 2 and Daniel 7. 00:19:48.57\00:19:50.13 You say, "What is that reason?" 00:19:50.16\00:19:51.23 Let's continue. 00:19:51.26\00:19:52.45 The 2300 days begin when Persia gives a decree 00:19:53.19\00:19:56.62 to restore and build Jerusalem. 00:19:56.65\00:19:58.31 And that is why the vision begins with Persia. 00:19:59.00\00:20:02.06 Because if you had begun with Babylon, 00:20:02.54\00:20:04.40 it would give the impression that the 2300 days 00:20:04.62\00:20:06.71 have to begin with the kingdom of Babylon. 00:20:06.74\00:20:08.64 Are you following me or not? 00:20:10.54\00:20:11.91 Thus, Daniel 8 and 9 must be connected in order to comprehend 00:20:12.33\00:20:16.87 the 2300 day prophecy. 00:20:17.08\00:20:19.40 Is this point clear? 00:20:19.43\00:20:20.76 Now, notice this chart that you have at the top of page 4. 00:20:21.76\00:20:25.63 The chart at the top of page 4. 00:20:25.66\00:20:27.63 Do you see there, the vision equals what? 00:20:28.33\00:20:31.01 The ram, the he goat, pagan and papal Rome 00:20:31.77\00:20:36.38 which is symbolized by the little horn, 00:20:36.41\00:20:39.00 up to the point of the judgment. 00:20:39.24\00:20:42.09 So the question is, when the question is ask, 00:20:43.36\00:20:46.49 "Until when is the vision," 00:20:46.52\00:20:48.35 the answer is, 2300 days is the vision. 00:20:48.88\00:20:51.63 Can that be six and a half years? 00:20:52.00\00:20:54.20 Come on, be real. 00:20:54.70\00:20:55.95 It includes all of this. 00:20:56.04\00:20:58.44 So the 2300 days must be years. 00:20:58.70\00:21:02.80 They have to be years. 00:21:02.83\00:21:04.23 Because the 2300 days covered the entire vision. 00:21:04.26\00:21:07.17 And the vision includes the ram, the he goat, 00:21:07.80\00:21:10.36 pagan and papal Rome, up to the time when the judgment begins. 00:21:10.39\00:21:13.86 Is that clear? 00:21:13.89\00:21:15.09 Now let's go to reason number six. 00:21:15.69\00:21:17.50 What do conservative evangelical scholars 00:21:18.53\00:21:21.77 do with the prophecy of the 70 weeks? 00:21:22.32\00:21:24.56 See, here you have a fly in the ointment. 00:21:24.59\00:21:26.92 Don't they have to employ the year/day principle 00:21:28.38\00:21:31.13 to convert the weeks to years? 00:21:31.16\00:21:33.24 Are you understanding the question? 00:21:35.11\00:21:36.68 The answer is that they attempt to get off the hook 00:21:37.71\00:21:40.70 by saying that the expression, "70 weeks," 00:21:41.23\00:21:43.61 really means, 70 sevens. 00:21:43.64\00:21:45.93 Or even, 70 weeks of years. 00:21:46.69\00:21:49.68 In this way, they get rid of the year/day principle. 00:21:50.48\00:21:53.58 This they must do because if they employ 00:21:54.55\00:21:56.84 the year/day principle for the 70 weeks, 00:21:56.87\00:21:59.36 they would have to employ it for the other prophetic periods 00:21:59.85\00:22:03.06 in order to be consistent. 00:22:03.27\00:22:05.48 Let us now look at a few facts about the word 00:22:06.60\00:22:08.93 translated, "week," here in Daniel 9. 00:22:08.96\00:22:10.91 Is it true that 70 weeks is 70 sevens, 00:22:10.94\00:22:15.40 or 70 weeks of years? 00:22:15.50\00:22:17.29 Is that really what it means, so that you don't have to apply 00:22:17.32\00:22:19.94 the year/day principle? 00:22:19.97\00:22:21.26 That's not what it means at all. 00:22:21.29\00:22:23.06 Let's notice the evidence. 00:22:23.34\00:22:24.70 Is it true that the Hebrew word, "shabuwa," which is, "week," 00:22:25.60\00:22:29.63 should be translated, "sevens," or, "weeks of years"? 00:22:29.66\00:22:33.38 This word is used a total of 19 times in the Hebrew Scriptures, 00:22:33.92\00:22:38.43 the word, "shabuwa," which is, "week." 00:22:38.46\00:22:40.60 And in every single instance, it refers to a literal week 00:22:41.57\00:22:46.74 of seven days. 00:22:46.77\00:22:48.12 And you have all of the references there. 00:22:48.81\00:22:50.61 I put them in parentheses for you. 00:22:50.64\00:22:53.03 Evangelicals frequently use Daniel 10:2 and 3 00:22:53.98\00:22:58.22 as an argument for translating the word, "shabuwa," 00:22:58.72\00:23:01.80 as, "weeks of years." 00:23:01.83\00:23:03.58 They point out... 00:23:04.04\00:23:05.12 And this is an important point. 00:23:05.15\00:23:06.60 They point out that in these verses, the word, "weeks," 00:23:06.70\00:23:10.42 is qualified by the word, "days." 00:23:10.62\00:23:13.27 In other words, "weeks of days." 00:23:13.93\00:23:16.64 Daniel is speaking about his period of fasting. 00:23:17.17\00:23:19.15 He said, "I fasted for three weeks of days." 00:23:19.18\00:23:22.39 That's what it literally says in the Hebrew. 00:23:22.59\00:23:23.96 So they say, "See, if this is weeks of days, 00:23:23.99\00:23:26.84 then the other one is weeks of years." 00:23:26.87\00:23:28.94 But there are problems with that interpretation. 00:23:29.44\00:23:31.76 They then imply that if these are weeks 00:23:32.43\00:23:35.19 with the qualifier, "days," then the other weeks 00:23:35.67\00:23:39.17 without the qualifier, "days," must mean, "weeks of years." 00:23:39.20\00:23:43.00 Are you catching their argument? 00:23:43.43\00:23:44.97 It's pretty crafty. 00:23:45.00\00:23:46.53 But it don't work. 00:23:47.16\00:23:48.52 For example, the New International Version 00:23:50.53\00:23:53.79 translates the word, "week," with, "seven" or "sevens," 00:23:53.82\00:23:57.33 in Daniel 9:24 to 27, but then translates the very same word 00:23:58.52\00:24:03.64 as, "weeks," in Daniel 10 verses 2 and 3. 00:24:03.67\00:24:06.40 Isn't that interesting. 00:24:08.02\00:24:09.29 The problem with such an explanation 00:24:10.15\00:24:12.09 is that it ignores the meaning of the Hebrew idiom, 00:24:12.12\00:24:16.61 "weeks of days." 00:24:16.64\00:24:18.55 What is meant by Daniel when he says that he 00:24:18.58\00:24:21.06 fasted for three weeks of days? 00:24:21.09\00:24:23.45 Let's notice. 00:24:23.48\00:24:24.56 When the word, "week," in Hebrew is qualified 00:24:24.82\00:24:27.74 by the word, "days," it simply means, "full weeks." 00:24:27.77\00:24:32.44 Three full weeks when it says, "weeks of days." 00:24:33.23\00:24:37.64 Notice the following examples in Genesis 29:14, 00:24:38.00\00:24:43.99 and Numbers 11:20-21, and Judges 19 verse 2. 00:24:44.31\00:24:48.59 The Hebrew literally reads, "month of days." 00:24:48.86\00:24:53.31 Is there a month that does not consist of days? 00:24:54.58\00:24:57.99 Furthermore, in Genesis 41 verse 1, Leviticus 25:29, 00:25:00.36\00:25:05.12 2 Samuel 13:23 and 14:28, the Hebrew literally reads, 00:25:05.22\00:25:11.74 "years of days," but the translators have recognized 00:25:11.77\00:25:15.36 that this means, "full years." 00:25:15.39\00:25:17.58 And they translate it that way. 00:25:17.61\00:25:19.14 Are you understanding the point? 00:25:20.33\00:25:21.81 But they have to get rid of the year/day principle 00:25:22.70\00:25:24.77 for the 70 weeks, because if they don't, they say, 00:25:24.80\00:25:26.79 "Uh-ho, we've got to apply it to the 2300 days, 00:25:26.82\00:25:30.44 we have to apply it to the 1260 days." 00:25:30.47\00:25:32.94 They run into trouble. 00:25:32.97\00:25:34.02 So they have to find a way to explain away 00:25:34.05\00:25:36.59 the 70 weeks without having to apply the year/day principle. 00:25:36.62\00:25:40.27 The fundamental reason why futurist and preterist 00:25:40.79\00:25:45.30 scholars refuse to translate, "shabuwa," in Daniel 9 00:25:45.33\00:25:49.92 as, "weeks," is because they would then have to admit, 00:25:49.95\00:25:53.79 in order to be consistent, that the year/day principle 00:25:54.01\00:25:57.25 must be applied to the other prophetic periods as well. 00:25:57.28\00:26:00.78 Furthermore, if they apply the year/day principle 00:26:01.21\00:26:04.03 to the 70 weeks, they would have to apply it to the 2300 days, 00:26:04.06\00:26:08.32 of which the 70 weeks constitute the first part. 00:26:08.35\00:26:11.10 And this would force them to admit that prophecy 00:26:11.58\00:26:14.79 was fulfilled in 1844. 00:26:14.82\00:26:16.61 This would then make them Seventh-day Adventists. 00:26:16.64\00:26:19.66 Incidentally, the Septuagint translates the Hebrew, 00:26:25.28\00:26:28.92 "shabuwa," with the Greek, "hebdomas." 00:26:28.95\00:26:32.66 This word is consistently translated, "week." 00:26:32.69\00:26:37.15 So much for the idea of trying to explain away 00:26:38.42\00:26:40.95 the 70 weeks and say, "We don't have to use 00:26:41.31\00:26:43.13 the year/day principle." 00:26:43.16\00:26:44.19 You do have to use the year/day principle with the 70 weeks. 00:26:44.22\00:26:47.25 And if you use it for the 70 weeks, you have to use it 00:26:47.28\00:26:50.07 for the other prophetic time periods as well. 00:26:50.10\00:26:52.35 Reason number seven; a comparison of 00:26:52.99\00:26:56.29 Daniel 8:11-13 and 23:25 with Daniel 11:31-45 00:26:56.32\00:27:04.43 also reveals why Antiochus cannot be represented 00:27:04.89\00:27:08.65 by the little horn. 00:27:08.68\00:27:09.82 As we compare these two passages, it becomes 00:27:10.70\00:27:14.45 crystal clear that the king of the north of Daniel 11 00:27:14.48\00:27:18.31 represents the same power as the little horn 00:27:18.34\00:27:21.25 of both Daniel 7 and Daniel 8. 00:27:21.28\00:27:23.44 And by the way, futurist scholars agree. 00:27:23.47\00:27:25.96 And preterist scholars agree. 00:27:27.13\00:27:28.96 They say, "Yes, that's right." 00:27:28.99\00:27:30.72 The power in Daniel 8:11-13 and 23:25, and Daniel 11:31-45, 00:27:31.00\00:27:37.15 represents the same power. 00:27:37.25\00:27:39.26 Only they believe that it was Antiochus Epiphanes, 00:27:39.29\00:27:42.40 and some believe that it's a future antichrist. 00:27:42.43\00:27:45.06 Now particularly in Daniel 11, but also in Daniel 7 and 8, 00:27:45.86\00:27:50.80 it is clear that the king of the north 00:27:51.26\00:27:53.67 is the last power to rule earth before Christ sets up 00:27:53.97\00:27:57.84 His everlasting kingdom. 00:27:57.87\00:27:59.38 You can notice that in Daniel 11, it says, 00:27:59.41\00:28:02.48 "He shall come to his end, and none to help him." 00:28:02.51\00:28:05.47 In other words, the last power to rule on earth is going to be 00:28:05.96\00:28:09.36 the king of the north. 00:28:09.39\00:28:10.62 And we also know that it's going to be the little horn. 00:28:10.65\00:28:13.01 Because he's destroyed by the brightness of Christ's coming. 00:28:13.21\00:28:16.01 Now, this is also true of the little horn of Daniel 8. 00:28:16.74\00:28:20.66 He is broken without hands; an expression that is used 00:28:20.92\00:28:24.36 in Daniel 2:34, Daniel 8:25, and 11:45. 00:28:24.39\00:28:29.05 The little horn, or king of the north, is destroyed 00:28:29.34\00:28:32.58 by Christ at His coming. 00:28:32.61\00:28:34.21 Obviously, this makes it impossible for 00:28:36.60\00:28:38.87 Antiochus Epiphanes to be the little horn. 00:28:38.90\00:28:41.49 Unless Antiochus Epiphanes resurrects. 00:28:44.35\00:28:47.37 And I don't think anybody would stand for that. 00:28:48.86\00:28:51.98 Not even liberal or conservative dispensationalist scholars. 00:28:52.01\00:28:56.15 Let's continue, Daniel 11:31-45 also contains many elements 00:28:56.73\00:29:03.35 which are in common with the little horn of Daniel 7. 00:29:03.38\00:29:06.40 These considerations leave no doubt that the little horn 00:29:06.99\00:29:11.18 of Daniel 7, the little horn of Daniel 8, 00:29:11.21\00:29:14.87 and the king of the north of Daniel 11 00:29:15.12\00:29:17.29 symbolize the same power. 00:29:17.32\00:29:19.07 Thus, those who see the little horn of Daniel 7 00:29:19.65\00:29:22.85 as a future antichrist and the one in Daniel 8 00:29:22.88\00:29:26.67 as Antiochus Epiphanes are at a lost to explain 00:29:26.70\00:29:30.50 why Daniel 11 blends the description of the 00:29:30.53\00:29:33.96 little horn of Daniel 7 with that of the 00:29:33.99\00:29:36.28 little horn of Daniel 8. 00:29:36.31\00:29:37.92 Why would Daniel 11 blend the two descriptions 00:29:38.26\00:29:41.33 if they represented two different powers; 00:29:41.36\00:29:44.12 one past and the other future? 00:29:44.15\00:29:46.37 Reason number eight. 00:29:48.16\00:29:49.56 In the book of Daniel, the word, "days," can mean, "years." 00:29:50.48\00:29:55.03 That shows that the Hebrews used this principle. 00:29:56.42\00:30:00.55 They used the word, "days," to express years. 00:30:00.58\00:30:03.36 And this is found in the book of Daniel. 00:30:03.95\00:30:05.74 Let's notice. 00:30:05.77\00:30:06.87 Daniel 1 verse 5 refers to three years. 00:30:07.24\00:30:10.76 But in Daniel 1:18, the same period is described as what? 00:30:11.81\00:30:16.12 As days. 00:30:16.76\00:30:18.04 The seven times of Daniel 4:25 are referred to as days 00:30:19.40\00:30:24.93 in Daniel 4:34 00:30:25.73\00:30:27.55 Daniel 5:11 speaks of days of Nebuchadnezzar. 00:30:29.95\00:30:33.46 That means, the years of Nebuchadnezzar. 00:30:34.07\00:30:36.18 These days were obviously years. 00:30:36.85\00:30:39.10 And then you can compare Daniel 2:28 and 44 00:30:39.50\00:30:42.70 where, "latter days," and "days of these kings," 00:30:42.73\00:30:45.97 means what? 00:30:46.00\00:30:47.15 Years. 00:30:47.33\00:30:48.60 So Daniel itself uses interchangeably, 00:30:48.64\00:30:52.54 "days" and "years." 00:30:52.57\00:30:54.40 Reason number nine. 00:30:54.82\00:30:56.18 The historical books of the Old Testament 00:30:56.62\00:30:59.51 use, "days" and "years," in parallel fashion. 00:31:02.45\00:31:05.95 Notice the following examples. 00:31:06.97\00:31:09.07 And we're not going to read all of these. 00:31:10.18\00:31:12.15 But you can look them up. 00:31:13.12\00:31:14.77 Exodus 13 verse 10 literally reads in Hebrew 00:31:15.65\00:31:19.62 that the Passover was to be celebrated from days to days. 00:31:20.08\00:31:24.38 That's the way it reads in Hebrew. 00:31:25.26\00:31:26.66 The Passover was to be celebrated from days to days. 00:31:27.75\00:31:30.77 What does that mean? 00:31:30.80\00:31:31.97 From year to year. 00:31:32.45\00:31:33.62 And that's the way that it's translated, 00:31:33.65\00:31:35.50 even though the Hebrew says, "from days to days." 00:31:35.88\00:31:39.88 In 1 Samuel 20 verse 6, the Hebrew literal reads, 00:31:40.24\00:31:45.12 "sacrifice of the days." 00:31:45.15\00:31:47.57 But the context clearly shows it refers to the yearly sacrifice. 00:31:48.38\00:31:53.05 So for the Hebrew thinking, days is interchangeable with what? 00:31:54.21\00:31:59.80 Interchangeable with years in the historical books 00:31:59.83\00:32:03.04 of the Old Testament. 00:32:03.07\00:32:04.46 In 1 Samuel 2:19, literally the Hebrew says, 00:32:05.25\00:32:08.85 "from days to days." 00:32:08.88\00:32:10.14 And it's translated, "from years to years." 00:32:10.17\00:32:12.46 1 Samuel 1:21 literally reads in the Hebrew, 00:32:13.06\00:32:15.90 "sacrifice of the days." 00:32:15.93\00:32:17.21 Translations render it, "sacrifice of the years," 00:32:17.24\00:32:20.65 or, "the yearly sacrifice." 00:32:20.68\00:32:22.44 You find the same thing in Judges 11 verse 40. 00:32:23.71\00:32:26.27 It literally reads, "from days to days, four days each year." 00:32:26.30\00:32:31.34 It means, from year to year, four days each year. 00:32:31.37\00:32:34.55 1 Samuel 27 verse 7 literally reads, "days and four months." 00:32:35.78\00:32:41.16 What does that mean? 00:32:42.86\00:32:44.01 It means, a year and four months. 00:32:44.69\00:32:46.98 1 Kings 1:1 says that David was stricken in days. 00:32:47.40\00:32:51.26 But what does that mean he was stricken in days? 00:32:51.59\00:32:53.62 He was stricken in years. 00:32:54.41\00:32:56.37 Genesis 47 verse 9 is an interesting verse, 00:32:56.66\00:33:00.06 in that Jacob speaks of, "the days of my years." 00:33:00.09\00:33:03.50 Literally in Hebrew it says, "the days of my years." 00:33:03.53\00:33:06.56 In Genesis 5 verse 5, we find that the days of Adam 00:33:07.19\00:33:11.85 were 930 years. 00:33:11.88\00:33:13.68 And in Genesis 6 verse 3, you have once again 00:33:14.99\00:33:19.18 days linked with years. 00:33:19.53\00:33:20.93 It says, "His days will be 120 years." 00:33:20.96\00:33:24.97 So is it common in the Hebrew way of expressing 00:33:25.66\00:33:28.62 to use days and years interchangeably? 00:33:28.65\00:33:31.02 Yes, it was common among the Hebrews to do this. 00:33:31.05\00:33:33.93 Now let's go to reason number ten. 00:33:34.41\00:33:36.32 Not only do we find Daniel using days and years 00:33:37.68\00:33:41.72 in a similar fashion, not only do we find the historical books 00:33:42.42\00:33:46.27 of the Old Testament also using days and years interchangeably, 00:33:46.30\00:33:51.06 we also find that in Old Testament Hebrew poetry 00:33:51.42\00:33:55.16 days and years are employed in synonymous parallelism. 00:33:55.55\00:33:59.17 You know what synonymous parallelism is? 00:33:59.20\00:34:01.27 Hebrew poetry is characterized by parallelism. 00:34:02.10\00:34:05.38 And there are three basic types. 00:34:05.49\00:34:06.81 There are variations, but there are three basic types. 00:34:06.85\00:34:09.23 One is called synonymous parallelism. 00:34:09.44\00:34:11.93 That's where the first line in the verse 00:34:12.25\00:34:16.49 is repeated in the second line, but in different words. 00:34:16.70\00:34:20.46 It's parallel to the first line, but different words are used. 00:34:20.49\00:34:23.55 Then you have antithetical parallelism, 00:34:24.66\00:34:27.14 which is the first line, the opposite 00:34:27.48\00:34:30.04 is said in the second line. 00:34:30.07\00:34:31.54 And then you have what is called synthetic parallelism, 00:34:31.99\00:34:34.72 which is where the thought of the first line is completed 00:34:34.98\00:34:38.42 in the second line. 00:34:38.45\00:34:39.70 Now a synonymous parallelism is where the first line 00:34:40.07\00:34:42.95 and the second line are synonymous, 00:34:42.98\00:34:45.54 but in different words. 00:34:45.57\00:34:47.17 In Hebrew poetry, you find, "days," and you find, "years," 00:34:47.44\00:34:52.85 used in synonymous parallelism. 00:34:52.88\00:34:55.52 Let's notice for example... 00:34:56.62\00:34:57.80 And you can look up all of these text. 00:34:57.83\00:34:59.52 A very interesting text is Psalm 90 verses 9 and 10, 00:34:59.73\00:35:03.35 where the translation reads, "years of our lives." 00:35:04.32\00:35:08.36 But literally in Hebrew it reads, "the days of our years." 00:35:09.51\00:35:14.56 In every place, listen carefully, in every place 00:35:15.40\00:35:18.47 where the Old Testament couples days with years, 00:35:18.50\00:35:21.35 the word, "day," is in the A line and the word, "year," 00:35:22.54\00:35:27.22 is in the B line. 00:35:27.25\00:35:28.56 You understand what I'm saying? 00:35:29.87\00:35:31.09 In other words, in the first line you have the word, "day." 00:35:31.57\00:35:35.03 In the second line, which is parallel or synonymous, 00:35:35.33\00:35:39.24 you have, "year." 00:35:39.27\00:35:40.30 In other words, the day is equivalent to what? Year. 00:35:40.33\00:35:42.92 Just check out these verses. 00:35:42.95\00:35:44.77 It is so interesting. 00:35:44.80\00:35:46.24 William Shea, who was my teacher at the seminary, 00:35:46.70\00:35:49.29 wrote a very interesting book called, 00:35:49.59\00:35:51.31 Selected Studies in Prophetic Interpretation. 00:35:51.34\00:35:53.82 And on page 69 he says this... 00:35:53.85\00:35:56.00 And a good share of this material he has in this chapter 00:35:56.03\00:35:59.83 that he wrote on the year/day principle. 00:35:59.86\00:36:01.70 He says this, "When we come to the occurrence 00:36:01.73\00:36:04.85 of the word, 'days,' in time prophecies, 00:36:04.88\00:36:07.69 therefore, an ancient Semite..." 00:36:07.72\00:36:10.86 Do you understand what he means by an ancient Semite? 00:36:11.50\00:36:13.97 Someone... Yeah, Jew. 00:36:14.52\00:36:15.71 Somebody who has a Semitic background. 00:36:15.74\00:36:18.22 "...an ancient Semite whose mind was steeped in this 00:36:19.01\00:36:22.40 parallelistic type of thought would naturally have made 00:36:22.43\00:36:26.32 an association of years with the days 00:36:26.35\00:36:29.53 found in a symbolic context, just as he naturally 00:36:29.91\00:36:33.99 would have identified years as the B word 00:36:34.02\00:36:36.92 that would follow the A word, "days," in its occurrence 00:36:36.95\00:36:40.93 as part of a well known parallel pair." 00:36:41.03\00:36:45.22 So you can check out these verses. 00:36:46.07\00:36:48.17 And, you know, I'll mention some of them. 00:36:48.20\00:36:50.54 Job 10 verse 5, Job 15 verse 20, 00:36:50.57\00:36:54.62 Job 32 verse 7, Deuteronomy 32 verse 7, 00:36:54.65\00:36:58.46 and Psalm 77 verse 5. 00:36:58.49\00:37:00.37 And you know what's interesting is that the 00:37:00.40\00:37:02.18 first book of the Bible to be written was the book of Job. 00:37:02.21\00:37:05.29 So very, very early it was written by Moses in the 00:37:06.82\00:37:10.02 desert of Midian while he was tending Jethro's sheep, 00:37:10.05\00:37:13.01 according to the spirit of prophecy. 00:37:13.11\00:37:14.81 And there are some sections of the book of Job 00:37:15.42\00:37:18.84 that use such archaic Hebrew language that the Septuagint 00:37:19.02\00:37:22.63 translators, the translators of the Greek Old Testament, 00:37:22.66\00:37:25.38 had real struggles in translating 00:37:25.41\00:37:27.82 that Hebrew to Greek. 00:37:27.85\00:37:29.94 They leave whole sections untranslated 00:37:30.54\00:37:33.08 because it was such archaic old Hebrew. 00:37:33.49\00:37:36.65 And so it's interesting that you have these references 00:37:37.01\00:37:39.22 from Job where the A line has, "days," 00:37:39.25\00:37:42.00 and the B line, the parallel line has, "years." 00:37:42.03\00:37:44.79 Days are years. 00:37:44.82\00:37:46.73 Is that clear? 00:37:46.93\00:37:47.97 Reason number eleven. 00:37:48.65\00:37:50.11 The prophetic books also do the same thing. 00:37:51.24\00:37:53.71 The prophetic books of the Old Testament, 00:37:54.11\00:37:56.29 "days" are also used interchangeably with "years." 00:37:56.32\00:37:59.69 For instance, Ezekiel 30 verse 3 refers to the day of the Lord, 00:38:00.12\00:38:05.54 but Isaiah calls it the year of the Lord. 00:38:06.04\00:38:08.95 Isaiah 10 verse 3 speaks of the day of visitation, 00:38:09.45\00:38:12.85 but Jeremiah 11:23 refers to the same event 00:38:12.88\00:38:15.71 as the year of visitation. 00:38:15.74\00:38:18.07 Isaiah 34 verse 8 speaks of the year of recompense, 00:38:18.45\00:38:22.15 but Hosea 9 verse 7 refers to the days of recompense. 00:38:22.18\00:38:26.00 Do you see that the prophets, for them, "days" and "years" 00:38:26.03\00:38:29.93 had a very close and intimate relationship. 00:38:29.96\00:38:32.72 Of course, we would not want to leave out the traditional text 00:38:33.50\00:38:37.29 which have been used by Seventh-day Adventists 00:38:37.64\00:38:39.55 to corroborate the year/day principle. 00:38:39.58\00:38:41.95 In both Numbers 14:34 and Ezekiel 4 verse 6, 00:38:42.61\00:38:47.47 God Himself employs the year/day principle 00:38:47.50\00:38:50.73 in the context of prophecy. 00:38:50.76\00:38:52.59 And if we have time, we'll deal with miniature symbolization. 00:38:53.13\00:38:57.59 That is a fascinating study. 00:38:57.90\00:38:59.40 It's a follow up to this study about the year/day principle. 00:38:59.43\00:39:02.58 Now let's go to reason number twelve. 00:39:02.61\00:39:04.23 We can also approach this subject from the perspective 00:39:05.44\00:39:09.04 of the sabbatical and jubilee years. 00:39:09.07\00:39:11.84 Have you ever heard of the sabbatical year? 00:39:12.22\00:39:13.91 That's every seventh year was a year of rest. 00:39:14.49\00:39:18.88 And then every 49th year was a year of rest, 00:39:19.54\00:39:22.53 followed by the jubilee, which was the 50th year. 00:39:22.56\00:39:25.37 Now where does this pattern come from, 00:39:26.04\00:39:28.02 the pattern of the sabbatical year and the jubilee? 00:39:28.05\00:39:31.25 Where does that come from? 00:39:31.28\00:39:32.45 It comes from the weekly cycle of days. 00:39:32.48\00:39:35.23 That's the pattern. Let's follow this. 00:39:35.44\00:39:37.77 It is obvious that the weekly Sabbath is the foundation 00:39:38.09\00:39:41.39 for both of these. 00:39:41.42\00:39:42.67 That is to say, the seventh day of the week becomes symbolic 00:39:42.90\00:39:46.07 of the seventh year. 00:39:46.10\00:39:47.38 And the 49th day becomes symbolic of the 49th year. 00:39:47.93\00:39:51.81 Leviticus 25:1-7 addresses the sabbatical year. 00:39:52.52\00:39:56.71 This passage contains the earliest biblical use 00:39:57.27\00:40:00.48 of the year/day principle. 00:40:00.51\00:40:01.92 It becomes clear when we compare verses 3 and 4 00:40:02.37\00:40:05.55 with verse 5 that the weekly cycle is being used 00:40:05.58\00:40:09.48 as a pattern for the seven year period. 00:40:09.51\00:40:12.50 In other words, each day of the week becomes symbolic of what? 00:40:13.18\00:40:17.54 A year in the sabbatical year and a year in the jubilee. 00:40:17.75\00:40:23.42 Now notice, we have six years which are followed 00:40:24.80\00:40:28.83 by the seventh year. 00:40:28.86\00:40:30.41 And the seventh year is one of rest. 00:40:30.44\00:40:34.45 This arrangement is patterned after six days of labor 00:40:34.73\00:40:38.60 followed by the seventh day, which is a day of rest. 00:40:38.63\00:40:41.86 Here, we clearly have an example of the year/day principle. 00:40:42.21\00:40:45.38 The same is true of the jubilee year. 00:40:45.50\00:40:48.30 Are you understanding this point? 00:40:48.33\00:40:49.86 The week of days is used as a pattern 00:40:50.50\00:40:55.05 for the seven year cycle of the sabbatical year. 00:40:55.41\00:40:58.91 The foundation is the literal days of the week. 00:40:59.01\00:41:03.16 Let's go to reason number thirteen. 00:41:04.07\00:41:05.88 If we accept the testimony of Jesus, the little horn of 00:41:06.83\00:41:10.98 Daniel 8 cannot represent Antiochus Epiphanes. 00:41:11.01\00:41:14.24 Jesus made it clear that the abomination of desolation 00:41:14.81\00:41:17.65 spoken of by the prophet Daniel was still 00:41:17.68\00:41:20.37 in the future in His day. 00:41:20.40\00:41:22.13 Did He do that? 00:41:22.92\00:41:23.95 Oh, you better believe He did. 00:41:24.20\00:41:25.58 How could Antiochus, who lived in the second century 00:41:26.19\00:41:28.95 before Christ, fulfill a prophecy which Jesus 00:41:28.98\00:41:31.83 clearly indicated was still unfulfilled in His day? 00:41:31.86\00:41:35.52 Furthermore, the little horn of Daniel 7 could not have 00:41:36.29\00:41:39.28 been fulfilled by Antiochus either, because the apostle 00:41:39.31\00:41:43.70 Paul specified that this horn was still future in his day. 00:41:43.73\00:41:47.70 The book of Revelation also places the fulfillment 00:41:48.61\00:41:51.20 of this prophecy in the future. 00:41:51.23\00:41:53.27 Do you understand that point? 00:41:54.60\00:41:55.84 Well some of you do. 00:41:57.40\00:41:58.93 Reason number fourteen. 00:42:02.12\00:42:03.77 As a rule of thumb, the shorter the time period 00:42:04.80\00:42:09.55 in apocalyptic prophecy, the more likely it is 00:42:10.36\00:42:13.94 to be symbolic of a longer time period. 00:42:13.97\00:42:17.77 For example, is it really possible to fit into 00:42:18.89\00:42:22.57 one literal week all the events spoken of 00:42:22.60\00:42:25.24 in the last of the seventy weeks? 00:42:25.27\00:42:27.35 Come on, be real. 00:42:28.53\00:42:29.87 There's no way you could fit all of those events 00:42:29.90\00:42:32.04 into one literal week. 00:42:32.34\00:42:34.50 Would ten literal days of persecution during the 00:42:34.93\00:42:37.87 period of Smyrna really be such a terrible ordeal? 00:42:37.90\00:42:41.43 Would three and one half literal days be enough 00:42:42.74\00:42:46.14 to fulfill all of the events of Revelation 11? 00:42:46.17\00:42:49.19 Impossible, folks. 00:42:52.12\00:42:53.53 If in Revelation 11 the two witnesses, the two olive trees, 00:42:53.93\00:42:57.03 the two lamp stands, the sackcloth, etc, 00:42:57.06\00:42:59.47 are all symbolic, then why isn't the time period also symbolic? 00:42:59.50\00:43:04.64 Reason number fifteen. 00:43:05.98\00:43:07.01 You thought we only had one reason, Ezekiel chapter 4. 00:43:07.18\00:43:10.17 We have a plethora of reasons that support the year/day 00:43:12.60\00:43:15.65 principle that the Seventh-day Adventist Church upholds. 00:43:15.68\00:43:18.63 Reason number fifteen. 00:43:18.73\00:43:20.19 Preterist and futurist who apply these prophetic 00:43:21.09\00:43:23.89 time periods literally encounter serious problems 00:43:23.92\00:43:27.96 in another sense as well. 00:43:27.99\00:43:29.60 In the Old Testament, God is presented as the one who 00:43:30.83\00:43:34.05 reveals the course of human history 00:43:34.08\00:43:36.35 and provides His divine evaluation of that history. 00:43:36.91\00:43:41.30 There we find a revelation of the continuous 00:43:41.95\00:43:44.73 and unbroken flow of human history from creation 00:43:44.76\00:43:48.35 until the first coming of the Messiah. 00:43:48.38\00:43:49.88 Is that true? 00:43:49.91\00:43:50.94 In the Old Testament we find every event, 00:43:50.97\00:43:53.55 the whole flow, from creation until the times of the Messiah. 00:43:53.58\00:43:57.93 The gospels then present the story of 00:43:58.47\00:44:00.59 Jesus' ministry on earth. 00:44:00.62\00:44:02.34 The book of Acts and the epistles continue the flow 00:44:02.85\00:44:05.90 by describing the history of the early church. 00:44:05.93\00:44:07.81 Do we have a continuous flow method here? 00:44:07.84\00:44:09.79 Yes we do. 00:44:09.99\00:44:11.18 After this is where the preterist encounter 00:44:11.51\00:44:15.79 serious problems. 00:44:15.82\00:44:17.46 You see, in the preterist view there is no revelation 00:44:17.94\00:44:21.91 from God concerning the entire history of the Christian church. 00:44:21.94\00:44:25.46 There are almost 2000 years of silence. 00:44:25.99\00:44:28.87 Because they believe that these prophecies were fulfilled with 00:44:29.62\00:44:32.37 Antiochus Epiphanes and with Nero. 00:44:32.40\00:44:35.64 Revelation has nothing to do with the history of 00:44:37.40\00:44:39.68 the Christian church, they say. 00:44:39.71\00:44:41.34 So God has been silent about history for 2000 years. 00:44:41.61\00:44:46.18 There are almost 2000 years of silence. 00:44:47.59\00:44:50.17 According them, God's description and evaluation 00:44:50.33\00:44:53.03 of history ended with Antiochus Epiphanes 00:44:53.06\00:44:55.85 and the Roman emperors in the early church. 00:44:55.88\00:44:58.32 The futurist are not in much better shape. 00:44:59.06\00:45:01.58 According to this school, Revelation 4 through 19 00:45:02.33\00:45:04.95 refers to a short period of human history 00:45:05.05\00:45:07.50 at the very end of time. 00:45:07.53\00:45:09.68 Likewise, God's description and evaluation of 00:45:10.33\00:45:12.92 human history as found in Daniel, according to them, 00:45:12.95\00:45:16.07 ends with the Roman Empire and does not pick up again 00:45:16.10\00:45:19.25 until the last seven years of human history. 00:45:19.35\00:45:21.79 Thus, there is a 2000 year gap in God's description 00:45:22.78\00:45:26.87 and evaluation of human history. 00:45:26.90\00:45:28.76 With the brief exception of the seven churches, 00:45:29.21\00:45:31.56 God has been silent about the events of the church 00:45:31.63\00:45:34.24 for 2000 years. 00:45:34.27\00:45:35.91 Are you understanding this point? 00:45:35.94\00:45:37.42 Only the historicist method is able to reveal 00:45:38.73\00:45:42.37 a God who is concerned with His church during the entire 00:45:42.40\00:45:46.58 period of church history, including the period of 00:45:46.61\00:45:49.36 dominion of the little horn. 00:45:49.39\00:45:50.75 Only historicism is able to show the providential guidance 00:45:50.99\00:45:55.38 of God in human history and His loving care for His church 00:45:55.41\00:45:58.82 during the last 2000 years. 00:45:58.85\00:46:01.62 God is a God who is engaged. 00:46:02.83\00:46:06.09 Reason number sixteen. 00:46:06.70\00:46:08.22 The apostle Paul makes it absolutely clear that the 00:46:09.17\00:46:11.38 man of sin, this is an important reason, 00:46:11.41\00:46:13.75 was already working in his day. 00:46:13.78\00:46:16.53 Is that true? 00:46:17.00\00:46:18.07 Yeah. 00:46:18.47\00:46:19.54 And yet, this man of sin will not be destroyed 00:46:19.64\00:46:22.34 until Jesus comes. 00:46:22.37\00:46:23.77 Whoa. 00:46:24.86\00:46:26.02 How could this be a literal person if he was alive 00:46:26.59\00:46:29.52 in Paul's day, and yet is not destroyed until Jesus comes? 00:46:29.55\00:46:32.94 He's not a centenarian, he's a millenarian. 00:46:36.14\00:46:38.60 Is this one literal man who has lived over 2000 years? 00:46:41.65\00:46:45.54 The inevitable conclusion is that the man of sin 00:46:46.26\00:46:48.47 cannot be a literal man, nor can his period of 00:46:48.50\00:46:51.47 dominion be literal time. 00:46:51.50\00:46:52.98 It is also significant that Paul is getting his picture 00:46:53.65\00:46:56.82 of the man of sin from the little horn of Daniel 7, 00:46:56.85\00:46:59.54 and the little horn of Daniel 8, and the king of the north 00:47:00.31\00:47:03.07 of Daniel 11. 00:47:03.10\00:47:04.50 This being the case, the little horn and the king of the north 00:47:04.53\00:47:08.21 must have ruled for centuries, not for literal days. 00:47:08.31\00:47:12.57 Reason number seventeen. 00:47:14.25\00:47:15.83 The acid test of the year/day principle 00:47:17.01\00:47:19.74 is whether the events forecasted were fulfilled on schedule. 00:47:20.21\00:47:23.99 In other words, the pragmatic test of historical fulfillment 00:47:25.53\00:47:30.63 must be applied to the historicist interpretation 00:47:31.03\00:47:34.19 of these prophecies. 00:47:34.22\00:47:35.45 Does the historicist method pass the test? 00:47:35.85\00:47:39.62 Well, notice the following incontrovertible facts. 00:47:40.02\00:47:43.85 Did the papacy rule for 1260 years? 00:47:44.64\00:47:47.63 Absolutely. 00:47:47.92\00:47:49.16 Can these dates be corroborated by history? 00:47:49.26\00:47:51.80 Yes. 00:47:52.13\00:47:53.38 Did the church, during the period of Smyrna, experience 00:47:54.04\00:47:57.17 ten years of severe persecution? 00:47:57.20\00:47:59.73 Yes, the year 303 to 313. 00:47:59.93\00:48:03.08 Terrible persecution the church suffered 00:48:03.55\00:48:07.01 during the emperorship of Diocletian. 00:48:07.04\00:48:10.35 There, you have during the church of Smyrna, 00:48:10.64\00:48:12.99 the church that is persecuted by the Roman emperors, 00:48:13.09\00:48:16.04 you have ten days that are mentioned in 00:48:16.07\00:48:17.83 connection with that church. 00:48:17.86\00:48:19.08 Ten years; 303 to 313. 00:48:19.11\00:48:21.22 It can be proven. 00:48:21.25\00:48:22.45 Can it be proved that Jesus came in the year 27 AD 00:48:23.83\00:48:29.31 to be baptized, and He was baptized? 00:48:29.34\00:48:31.30 That He died in the middle of the week? 00:48:31.68\00:48:33.82 And that Stephen was stoned in the year 34? 00:48:34.61\00:48:38.06 Absolutely. 00:48:38.09\00:48:39.13 Was this prophecy of the 70 weeks fulfilled? 00:48:39.16\00:48:42.43 It was. 00:48:42.46\00:48:43.60 How about the prophecy of the 2300 days? 00:48:43.92\00:48:46.38 The Millerites did indeed preach from Daniel 8:14 00:48:47.40\00:48:50.66 that the Sanctuary was about to be cleansed. 00:48:50.86\00:48:53.09 And this preaching took place right before the 2300 years 00:48:53.38\00:48:57.15 came to an end. 00:48:57.18\00:48:58.54 Why didn't they preach from some other text? 00:48:58.80\00:49:01.16 Simply because God wanted to bring to the world's attention 00:49:01.43\00:49:04.55 that the 2300 years were about to end and a significant event 00:49:04.75\00:49:09.13 was about to take place in heaven. 00:49:09.16\00:49:10.71 The great second advent awakening in the 1830's 00:49:11.04\00:49:13.91 provides powerful evidence that the year/day principle 00:49:13.94\00:49:17.41 must be applied to Daniel 8 verse 14. 00:49:17.97\00:49:20.56 Historical fulfillment shows that this is the way 00:49:21.13\00:49:23.41 to interpret these time prophecies. 00:49:23.44\00:49:25.27 Finally, the churches were closed and Bibles were 00:49:25.84\00:49:29.95 forbidden in France during the French Revolution, 00:49:29.98\00:49:33.67 according to Revelation chapter 11, 00:49:33.70\00:49:36.33 for about three and one half years 00:49:36.36\00:49:38.24 from March of 1793 to November of 1797. 00:49:38.27\00:49:42.69 It did happen exactly the way it says in Revelation 11. 00:49:42.72\00:49:46.58 So the acid test of historical fulfillment shows 00:49:47.19\00:49:50.73 that these days are not days, 00:49:50.93\00:49:53.78 that these months are not months. 00:49:53.81\00:49:55.76 But these days and months are actually what? 00:49:55.79\00:49:58.88 Years. 00:49:59.08\00:50:00.42 Reason number eighteen. 00:50:01.33\00:50:02.81 I leave this till last because scholars are not always right. 00:50:03.36\00:50:06.93 Many great Bible scholars, both Seventh-day Adventists 00:50:07.58\00:50:10.18 and non Seventh-day Adventists, have understood and taught 00:50:10.21\00:50:12.80 the year/day principle. 00:50:12.83\00:50:14.07 Unfortunately, after the great disappointment of 1844, 00:50:14.87\00:50:18.09 and we've studied this in a previous class, 00:50:18.12\00:50:20.09 Protestants gave up on the year/day principle 00:50:20.12\00:50:22.77 that was used by the Millerite to calculate 00:50:23.18\00:50:26.45 prophetic time periods. 00:50:26.48\00:50:28.03 In other words, because Jesus did not come as predicted 00:50:28.13\00:50:31.02 in 1844, the protestant world threw out the method 00:50:31.05\00:50:34.96 which the Millerites had used. 00:50:34.99\00:50:37.41 Thus, they threw out the proverbial baby 00:50:37.44\00:50:39.87 with the bath water. 00:50:39.90\00:50:41.29 We will limit ourselves to comments which were 00:50:41.32\00:50:43.82 made by two men whose last name is Newton. 00:50:43.85\00:50:46.88 One is Sir Isaac Newton. 00:50:47.84\00:50:50.98 Have you ever heard of him? 00:50:51.01\00:50:52.20 Notice what he says. 00:50:52.23\00:50:53.64 "Three times and a half, that is, for 1260 solar years, 00:50:54.13\00:50:59.95 reckoning as time for a calendar year of 360 days 00:51:00.15\00:51:04.88 and a day for a solar year; after which the judgment 00:51:05.08\00:51:08.54 is to sit and they shall take away his dominion, 00:51:08.57\00:51:11.24 not at once but by degrees, to consume and destroy it 00:51:11.27\00:51:15.18 unto the end." 00:51:15.21\00:51:16.41 See, he had the year/day principle right. 00:51:16.44\00:51:18.84 Sir Isaac Newton. 00:51:19.45\00:51:20.88 And then there was another individual, 00:51:21.32\00:51:23.07 Bishop Thomas Newton, who said this, 00:51:23.10\00:51:25.98 "We must, therefore, compute the time according to the 00:51:26.95\00:51:30.03 nature and genius of the prophetic language. 00:51:30.06\00:51:32.97 A 'time and times and half a time' 00:51:33.07\00:51:35.42 are three years and a half; 00:51:35.45\00:51:37.47 and the ancient Jewish year consisting of twelve months, 00:51:37.60\00:51:41.00 and each month of thirty days. 00:51:41.03\00:51:43.10 A 'time and times and half a time,' 00:51:43.13\00:51:45.89 or three years and a half, are reckoned in Revelation 11:2-3 00:51:45.92\00:51:50.17 and 12:6 and 14 as equivalent to 'forty-two months,' 00:51:50.20\00:51:54.15 or, 'a thousand two hundred and threescore days.' 00:51:54.18\00:51:57.65 And a day in the style of the prophets is a year. 00:51:57.75\00:52:00.59 'I have appointed thee each day for a year,' 00:52:00.79\00:52:03.34 saith God to Ezekiel, 4 verse 6. 00:52:03.37\00:52:06.04 And it is confessed that the seventy weeks in the 00:52:06.25\00:52:09.37 ninth chapter of Daniel are weeks of years. 00:52:09.40\00:52:12.40 And consequently, 1260 days are 1260 years." 00:52:12.43\00:52:17.69 Interesting. 00:52:17.72\00:52:19.04 Neither of these individuals was a Seventh-day Adventist. 00:52:19.79\00:52:22.24 And yet, they believed in the year/day principle. 00:52:24.46\00:52:26.92 Let's go to reason number nineteen, 00:52:28.39\00:52:29.87 because time is running out. 00:52:29.90\00:52:31.29 Practically every futurist writer is willing to concede 00:52:32.37\00:52:35.44 that the seven churches represent seven periods 00:52:35.47\00:52:38.57 of church history. 00:52:38.60\00:52:40.01 Even conservative scholars, particularly, they say 00:52:41.89\00:52:45.31 the seven churches represent seven periods of church history. 00:52:45.41\00:52:48.52 Most see Ephesus as a symbol of the apostolic church. 00:52:49.20\00:52:52.88 Let's take a look at the fourth church, Thyatira. 00:52:53.53\00:52:56.85 It is obvious to any objective reader that this church bears 00:52:57.36\00:53:00.65 many similarities to the condition of Israel 00:53:00.68\00:53:02.95 during the period of Elijah. 00:53:02.98\00:53:04.36 Notice the following parallels. 00:53:04.95\00:53:06.66 In both cases, Jezebel instigated the apostasy. 00:53:06.86\00:53:09.92 In both cases, the cardinal sins were 00:53:09.95\00:53:11.79 fornication and idolatry. 00:53:11.82\00:53:13.60 In both cases, there was no rain. 00:53:13.63\00:53:15.59 In both cases, Elijah fled. 00:53:15.62\00:53:17.38 In both cases, Elijah was sustained in his 00:53:17.41\00:53:19.87 flight to the wilderness. 00:53:19.90\00:53:21.11 In both cases, the apostasy lasted three and a half years. 00:53:21.14\00:53:24.21 Church of Thyatira and the experience of Elijah. 00:53:25.44\00:53:28.23 These parallels indicate that the church 00:53:28.62\00:53:30.69 during the period of Thyatira is reliving the story of Elijah. 00:53:30.72\00:53:35.02 Yet the historical period of the church of Thyatira 00:53:35.48\00:53:38.01 does not last only three and one half literal years. 00:53:38.04\00:53:41.30 Not even by the calculations of conservative 00:53:41.51\00:53:44.22 non-Adventist scholars. 00:53:44.25\00:53:45.76 Are you understanding my point? 00:53:46.54\00:53:47.96 If in Revelation 2 Jezebel is not one literal person, 00:53:48.40\00:53:51.92 Elijah is not one historical person, 00:53:52.19\00:53:54.71 rain is not literal rain, 00:53:54.81\00:53:56.50 fornication is not literal fornication, etc, 00:53:56.53\00:53:59.38 then the three and a half years are not literal years either. 00:53:59.41\00:54:02.39 Time and space will now allow us to show that the 00:54:03.30\00:54:05.70 harlot of Revelation 17 represents the second 00:54:05.73\00:54:08.64 future stage of this Jezebel period of the church. 00:54:08.67\00:54:12.29 In the case of literal Old Testament Elijah... 00:54:12.81\00:54:14.88 Now this is interesting. 00:54:14.91\00:54:16.17 In the case of literal Old Testament Elijah, 00:54:16.20\00:54:18.51 the time period when there was no rain was expressed 00:54:18.90\00:54:22.30 in normal terms as three years and six months, 00:54:22.33\00:54:26.37 because the time period was literal. 00:54:26.63\00:54:28.96 But in the case of symbolic Elijah, the period is described 00:54:29.26\00:54:33.06 as 1260 days, and time, times, and the dividing of time. 00:54:33.16\00:54:38.79 Does that make sense? 00:54:39.97\00:54:41.10 Now reason number twenty is one that I mentioned previously. 00:54:42.40\00:54:45.69 The thousand years of Revelation. 00:54:46.47\00:54:48.11 You have this sheet, I don't have time to say much about it, 00:54:48.14\00:54:51.17 but you have this chart, "The Year/Day Principle 00:54:51.47\00:54:55.41 in Isaiah 24 and Revelation 20 to 22." 00:54:55.44\00:54:59.22 Some people say, "Well why don't you use the year/day principle 00:54:59.85\00:55:03.08 for the thousand years of Revelation 20 to be consistent? 00:55:03.18\00:55:06.29 That's an apocalyptic prophecy, right?" 00:55:06.32\00:55:08.71 So why don't we use the year/day principle 00:55:09.86\00:55:12.02 for the thousand years of Revelation 20? 00:55:12.12\00:55:14.33 Why don't we say that also needs to have the 00:55:14.36\00:55:18.70 year/day principle applied to it? 00:55:18.73\00:55:20.46 It's very simple. 00:55:20.49\00:55:21.52 We already studied this, remember? 00:55:22.14\00:55:23.72 Notice this chart. 00:55:24.89\00:55:26.30 It's a very interesting chart. 00:55:26.50\00:55:28.14 On the left side you have Isaiah 24, 00:55:29.69\00:55:31.43 on the right side you have Revelation 20 to 22. 00:55:31.46\00:55:33.98 You have all of the parallels between Isaiah 24 00:55:34.26\00:55:38.87 and Revelation 20 to 22. 00:55:38.90\00:55:40.69 Now you have capitalized one key word in the left hand column. 00:55:40.89\00:55:44.35 What is it? 00:55:44.38\00:55:45.46 The word, "days." 00:55:45.81\00:55:47.06 What is the equivalent word in the right hand column? 00:55:47.09\00:55:49.94 It is, "years." 00:55:50.49\00:55:51.70 You see, we don't have to apply the year/day principle 00:55:52.00\00:55:55.35 to the thousand years. 00:55:55.38\00:55:56.98 Because Isaiah already does that. 00:55:57.39\00:55:59.66 Remember we studied this? 00:56:01.80\00:56:03.05 Isaiah says that the kings of the earth 00:56:03.57\00:56:09.94 and the host of the high ones will be punished 00:56:10.25\00:56:15.05 for how long? 00:56:15.44\00:56:16.58 For many days. 00:56:16.88\00:56:19.62 Revelation, on the other hand, says that the kings of the earth 00:56:20.81\00:56:23.92 that will be destroyed when Jesus comes, 00:56:24.03\00:56:25.80 according to chapter 19, and the devil 00:56:25.83\00:56:29.26 will be bound to the earth for how long? 00:56:29.61\00:56:32.73 For one thousand years. 00:56:33.28\00:56:35.00 So "days" in Isaiah is interpreted as 00:56:35.29\00:56:39.11 "years" in Revelation. 00:56:39.14\00:56:40.97 The Bible itself, when you compare one text with another, 00:56:42.19\00:56:45.39 contains the year/day principle. 00:56:45.42\00:56:48.74 So my question is, do we have sufficient reason 00:56:49.27\00:56:52.41 from Scripture to believe that in Bible prophecy, 00:56:52.44\00:56:56.71 apocalyptic prophecies, a day is equivalent to a year? 00:56:57.25\00:57:01.15 We have an abundance of evidence, folks, 00:57:01.42\00:57:03.97 that that's what needs to happen. 00:57:04.00\00:57:06.32 But the Christian world says no, because if they said yes, 00:57:06.61\00:57:10.31 they would be Seventh-day Adventists. 00:57:10.42\00:57:12.84 Perish the thought, right? 00:57:13.92\00:57:16.38 And yet, the world is out there anxious to know the truth. 00:57:17.55\00:57:20.83 And I believe that when we share these things, 00:57:21.41\00:57:23.14 and I've found as I've shared these things with people, 00:57:23.17\00:57:25.19 they say, "Wow, you know, this makes so much sense. 00:57:25.22\00:57:27.83 I never knew these things." 00:57:28.16\00:57:29.82 People need to know that the year/day principle 00:57:30.41\00:57:34.05 is firmly biblical, because then we can show them 00:57:34.08\00:57:37.03 the career of the papacy, we can show them 00:57:37.06\00:57:39.68 the 2300 day prophecy. 00:57:39.71\00:57:41.78 And they will be proud to be members 00:57:41.81\00:57:44.02 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:57:44.05\00:57:45.72
