Well folks, welcome to Anchor Bible school again. 00:00:15.40\00:00:18.52 We want to continue our study of principle number seven. 00:00:18.87\00:00:22.60 And it's a very important principle; 00:00:23.06\00:00:24.89 that which was literal is spiritual now, 00:00:24.92\00:00:27.12 and will be literal in the coming kingdom. 00:00:27.15\00:00:30.09 And we want to take a look at a story that we find in 00:00:30.63\00:00:35.13 the Old Testament. 00:00:35.16\00:00:36.43 You know, it is in a certain sense a global story, 00:00:36.71\00:00:40.59 but it also has many literal things that point to 00:00:40.62\00:00:43.71 spiritual realities in the future. 00:00:43.74\00:00:46.01 And so we are going to use this story to illustrate 00:00:46.36\00:00:49.46 how literal things in the past can apply spiritually 00:00:49.70\00:00:55.73 towards the end of time before the second coming of Christ. 00:00:55.99\00:00:59.26 And basically, you have the handout, the title of it is, 00:00:59.46\00:01:02.75 The Flood Story as an Illustration 00:01:02.78\00:01:05.41 of Historical Typology. 00:01:05.44\00:01:07.50 And we're going to see several principles here. 00:01:07.53\00:01:09.22 We're going to see how types and antitypes work. 00:01:09.25\00:01:12.41 We're going to see also, you know, how the literal 00:01:12.71\00:01:16.35 becomes symbolic. 00:01:16.38\00:01:17.41 We're going to take into account several principles 00:01:17.44\00:01:19.52 that we've already studied. 00:01:19.55\00:01:20.58 And I'm sure you're going to be able to see these principles 00:01:20.61\00:01:23.33 as we study along. 00:01:24.03\00:01:25.37 I'm going to follow the outline just as it is. 00:01:25.40\00:01:27.67 We've asked you to fill in the blanks. 00:01:27.95\00:01:29.78 This is a different type of class, 00:01:29.81\00:01:32.03 we haven't done this before. 00:01:32.11\00:01:33.50 But you're going to help me fill in the blanks. 00:01:33.53\00:01:36.16 In this lesson, we want to study the cataclysmic worldwide flood 00:01:37.22\00:01:42.62 in Noah's day. 00:01:42.82\00:01:44.50 The reason why this study is so important 00:01:45.08\00:01:48.99 is because Jesus said that the flood foreshadows 00:01:49.54\00:01:54.98 the destruction which will come upon the world 00:01:55.08\00:01:58.20 at the very end of human history. 00:01:58.23\00:02:01.16 Jesus said, "As it was in the days of Noah, 00:02:02.13\00:02:05.23 so shall it also be at the coming of the Son of Man." 00:02:05.85\00:02:09.81 But is there more to the story than meets the eye? 00:02:10.81\00:02:15.57 Is the parallel just that the destruction at the end of time 00:02:16.21\00:02:19.57 is going to be like the destruction 00:02:19.60\00:02:21.16 in the days of Noah? 00:02:21.42\00:02:23.16 Is the parallel only that the wickedness of the world 00:02:23.19\00:02:26.62 before the flood is similar to the wickedness that will exist 00:02:26.65\00:02:30.61 in the world before the second coming of Christ? 00:02:30.64\00:02:33.37 Or are there more typological things involved than just 00:02:33.75\00:02:38.88 the wickedness of the race and the destruction that came? 00:02:39.08\00:02:43.28 That's what we want to take a look at. 00:02:43.31\00:02:45.21 Now the subtitle that we have here is, 00:02:45.90\00:02:48.24 Satan's Hidden Pre-Flood Agenda. 00:02:48.27\00:02:51.50 Satan had a special agenda when it came to blending 00:02:52.65\00:02:57.44 the righteous and the wicked before the flood. 00:02:57.47\00:02:59.58 And that's what we want to take a look at now. 00:02:59.61\00:03:02.12 So let's go to our outline and fill in this blank. 00:03:03.04\00:03:06.80 Genesis 3:15 explains that there would be warfare 00:03:06.83\00:03:10.66 between two seeds. 00:03:10.69\00:03:12.59 And what is the first blank there? 00:03:13.72\00:03:15.52 The woman's seed and the serpent's seed. 00:03:16.32\00:03:20.71 So how many seeds are there? 00:03:20.74\00:03:22.28 There are two seeds. 00:03:22.84\00:03:23.98 Now both of them, in the case of Adam and Eve, 00:03:24.01\00:03:28.29 both of them were children of Eve. 00:03:28.32\00:03:30.66 But the seed you are is not determined by your birth, 00:03:31.39\00:03:34.99 it's determined by your choice. 00:03:35.19\00:03:37.00 You realize that. 00:03:37.20\00:03:38.55 Now, the next point is that in the story of Cain and Abel, 00:03:38.94\00:03:43.11 Abel was the... 00:03:43.51\00:03:45.30 ...woman's seed. Very well. 00:03:46.04\00:03:48.07 And Cain was the seed of the... 00:03:48.10\00:03:50.84 ...wicked one. 00:03:51.38\00:03:52.46 So whose seed was Cain? 00:03:52.49\00:03:54.36 He was the devil's seed. 00:03:54.84\00:03:56.60 Now by influencing Cain to kill Abel, 00:03:57.70\00:04:01.22 Satan thought he had gotten rid of what? 00:04:01.88\00:04:05.76 Of the seed. 00:04:06.09\00:04:07.18 See, the devil suspected that perhaps Abel was the 00:04:07.55\00:04:10.91 promised seed of Genesis 3:15. 00:04:10.94\00:04:12.92 So he says, "I'm going to get rid of this young man. 00:04:13.37\00:04:16.45 And therefore, the prophecy of Genesis 3:15 00:04:16.60\00:04:20.37 cannot be fulfilled." 00:04:20.40\00:04:22.77 But of course, you know in Genesis 4, God gave 00:04:23.06\00:04:26.46 Adam and Eve another seed in place of the seed 00:04:26.71\00:04:31.36 that Satan had killed by using Cain. 00:04:31.61\00:04:34.58 Now in the next section that we have here, it says 00:04:35.23\00:04:38.97 Genesis 4:16-24 presents the genealogy of Cain. 00:04:39.00\00:04:46.01 And Genesis 5 delineates the genealogy of Seth, very well, 00:04:46.63\00:04:51.77 who took the place of Abel. 00:04:52.10\00:04:54.18 So the devil says, "I killed Abel; problem solved." 00:04:54.79\00:04:58.19 God says, "Not so easy. 00:04:58.49\00:04:59.96 I'll give another seed." 00:04:59.99\00:05:01.26 And so the devil soon realizes that he's not going to be able 00:05:01.55\00:05:04.87 to kill all the seeds. 00:05:04.90\00:05:05.93 Because he kills the seed and God brings another one. 00:05:05.96\00:05:08.14 So the devil says, "I need to implement a plan B. 00:05:08.34\00:05:11.79 There has to be a better plan than trying to kill the seed." 00:05:11.82\00:05:15.00 And by the way, soon the devil realizes that what God is doing 00:05:15.10\00:05:18.72 is preparing a holy line from which the Messiah will come. 00:05:18.92\00:05:22.28 He soon discovers that these seeds, lowercase "s", 00:05:22.31\00:05:27.53 are really preliminary seeds that will lead to the 00:05:27.63\00:05:30.98 coming of the Seed in the future, 00:05:31.01\00:05:33.56 and that God is preserving a holy line 00:05:33.59\00:05:35.77 from which the Seed will come. 00:05:35.80\00:05:38.39 Now let's read this note. 00:05:39.15\00:05:40.77 Before we are able to discover the devil's hidden pre-flood 00:05:41.24\00:05:45.86 agenda, we must review a few things about the world 00:05:45.89\00:05:50.23 before the flood. 00:05:50.26\00:05:51.33 Number one, between creation and the flood 00:05:51.90\00:05:55.96 there was a period of 1656 years. 00:05:56.33\00:06:00.79 Number two, before the flood human beings lived 00:06:01.24\00:06:05.51 to be over 900 years old. 00:06:05.54\00:06:07.47 At least some of them. 00:06:07.50\00:06:08.80 Though sin had entered the world, their physical and mental 00:06:09.22\00:06:13.56 energy must have been enormous. 00:06:13.59\00:06:15.80 Imagine a scientist working in a laboratory 00:06:16.19\00:06:19.11 for close to 900 years with much more mental energy. 00:06:19.14\00:06:23.91 In fact, Ellen White says that Adam was created with 00:06:23.94\00:06:26.53 twenty times the mental energy that men have today. 00:06:26.56\00:06:29.84 So they were not living in caves and killing dinosaurs 00:06:30.80\00:06:33.51 with stone hatchets. 00:06:33.54\00:06:35.15 There were no drastic temperature changes. 00:06:36.53\00:06:39.46 The world was close to its pristine beauty. 00:06:39.87\00:06:42.58 There were no drastic temperature changes. 00:06:43.14\00:06:45.75 There was no scarcity of food or natural resources. 00:06:45.85\00:06:50.08 Number four, most likely there was very little disease. 00:06:50.65\00:06:55.00 And Ellen White confirms this. 00:06:55.03\00:06:56.61 God had told man to be fruitful and multiply. 00:06:57.58\00:07:00.61 Imagine how many children 900 year old people could have. 00:07:01.11\00:07:05.77 There must have been millions, if not billions, 00:07:06.50\00:07:09.23 of people on the planet the day before the flood. 00:07:09.26\00:07:11.98 1656 years, in a world were there was very little disease, 00:07:13.20\00:07:18.96 where there was much more mental energy, 00:07:19.88\00:07:21.85 there was no scarcity of natural resources, 00:07:22.34\00:07:25.23 and God had told man to be fruitful and multiply. 00:07:25.56\00:07:28.33 So the world undoubtedly had at least millions of inhabitants 00:07:28.91\00:07:34.05 by the time that the flood came. 00:07:34.37\00:07:36.79 Now Genesis 6:1-4 speaks about the sons of God 00:07:37.75\00:07:45.30 and the daughters of men. 00:07:45.33\00:07:49.00 Now what happened between the sons of God 00:07:50.04\00:07:52.02 and the daughters of men? 00:07:52.05\00:07:53.31 The story in Genesis tells us that the sons of God 00:07:53.53\00:07:57.20 entered to the daughters of men. 00:07:57.23\00:07:59.59 Now that expression, "entered," means that they had 00:07:59.62\00:08:02.05 sexual relations with them. 00:08:02.08\00:08:03.44 They contracted marriages with them. 00:08:03.47\00:08:06.13 Now who are the sons of God? 00:08:06.74\00:08:08.84 The sons of God are the descendents of Seth. 00:08:09.47\00:08:13.50 Who are the daughters of men? 00:08:13.81\00:08:15.68 They are the wicked descendents of Cain. 00:08:16.12\00:08:18.28 And by the way, three women are mentioned 00:08:18.31\00:08:20.88 in the genealogy of Cain. 00:08:20.91\00:08:22.36 Very unusual to have women in genealogies. 00:08:22.39\00:08:24.94 And I'm not going to go into the meaning of their names, 00:08:25.23\00:08:27.56 but the meaning of their names has to do with 00:08:27.76\00:08:29.81 their external appearance. 00:08:29.84\00:08:31.61 In fact, one of them means, "jewel" or "ornament." 00:08:32.82\00:08:36.30 Adah. We say Adah. 00:08:36.33\00:08:38.74 In other words, all of the names of these women 00:08:39.17\00:08:41.80 emphasize their external attraction. 00:08:41.83\00:08:44.60 What is it that attracted the sons of God? 00:08:44.99\00:08:47.45 You know, you read what the rabbi say. 00:08:48.94\00:08:51.00 They say that the women ran around painted up, 00:08:51.03\00:08:53.54 in nakedness of flesh, and all decked out. 00:08:53.75\00:08:57.35 That's what the Jewish rabbi say happened. 00:08:57.91\00:09:00.03 Let me ask you, do you think that there were also 00:09:00.39\00:09:01.95 daughters of God here? 00:09:01.98\00:09:03.40 Before the flood, were there daughters of God? 00:09:03.73\00:09:05.72 So why didn't the sons of God look at the daughters of God? 00:09:05.76\00:09:08.62 Why did they look at the daughters of men? 00:09:08.65\00:09:10.45 There must have been some external appearance 00:09:10.48\00:09:14.10 to the daughters of men that the daughters of God didn't have. 00:09:14.24\00:09:17.51 In other words, the daughters of God were ordinary. 00:09:18.11\00:09:20.93 They didn't put on all the paraphernalia. 00:09:22.23\00:09:24.80 They didn't paint themselves up and they didn't run around 00:09:25.29\00:09:28.00 in nakedness of flesh, as the Jewish rabbis express it. 00:09:28.03\00:09:32.21 Now let's read the note. 00:09:32.24\00:09:33.43 Some Bible teachers have thought that the 00:09:34.26\00:09:36.57 sons of God were angels. 00:09:36.60\00:09:38.31 Have you heard that interpretation? 00:09:38.99\00:09:40.49 And that the daughters of men were human. 00:09:40.99\00:09:43.54 And that the result of the crossbreeding between 00:09:44.51\00:09:48.16 the two was the giants; a hybrid that was half human 00:09:48.19\00:09:53.92 and half demon. 00:09:53.95\00:09:55.46 That's the view that many, many scholars have today. 00:09:56.01\00:09:59.31 This view must be questioned for at least three reasons. 00:09:59.70\00:10:03.50 Number one, the immediate context... 00:10:03.70\00:10:07.36 Remember the importance of the context? 00:10:07.39\00:10:09.19 The immediate context indicates that the sons of God 00:10:09.44\00:10:12.90 were the descendents of Seth, 00:10:12.93\00:10:14.62 and the daughters of men were the descendents of Cain. 00:10:15.82\00:10:18.46 The previous two chapters give us the context. 00:10:18.49\00:10:20.97 Chapter 4, the genealogy of Cain; 00:10:21.36\00:10:23.54 chapter 5, the genealogy of Seth; 00:10:23.74\00:10:26.23 and then 6:1, sons of God and daughters of men. 00:10:26.26\00:10:29.66 The context indicates clearly who they were. 00:10:29.69\00:10:32.42 Number two, Genesis is the book about two seeds; 00:10:32.66\00:10:36.64 Cain and Abel, the sons of God and the daughters of men, 00:10:36.94\00:10:39.46 Isaac and Ishmael, Jacob and Esau. 00:10:39.49\00:10:41.58 In every one of these cases, both seeds are what? 00:10:42.34\00:10:45.71 Both seeds are human. 00:10:46.03\00:10:47.77 Number three, the Bible elsewhere makes it clear 00:10:48.31\00:10:52.11 that the sons of God are those who have been converted 00:10:52.31\00:10:56.08 to Jesus Christ. 00:10:56.11\00:10:57.56 Is that correct? 00:10:58.29\00:10:59.55 "Behold, what manner of love the Father has given us 00:10:59.58\00:11:02.18 that we should be called the sons of God," 00:11:02.21\00:11:04.63 1 John chapter 3 and verse 1. 00:11:04.66\00:11:06.48 And this gives us another important principle 00:11:06.66\00:11:09.22 that we're going to study when we deal with 00:11:09.25\00:11:10.93 how to interpret Bible symbols. 00:11:10.96\00:11:12.82 And that is, that symbols do not always mean 00:11:13.07\00:11:15.93 the same thing in Scripture. 00:11:15.96\00:11:17.74 Terms, the meaning of terms, can change. 00:11:18.22\00:11:20.87 For example I'll ask you, 00:11:21.21\00:11:22.49 what does a lion represent in Scripture? 00:11:22.52\00:11:24.37 When you find the word, "lion," what does it mean? 00:11:24.40\00:11:26.59 Well, it can mean the literal animal, 00:11:26.80\00:11:28.82 it can be a symbol of Satan who goes about as a roaring lion, 00:11:29.63\00:11:33.56 it can be a symbol of Christ, the lion of the tribe of Judah, 00:11:33.86\00:11:37.48 it can be a symbol of Babylon, the first beast of Daniel 7. 00:11:37.88\00:11:41.46 So whenever you find, "lion," is doesn't necessarily mean 00:11:41.49\00:11:44.20 that it means the same thing. 00:11:44.23\00:11:45.33 You have to take into account the context. 00:11:45.43\00:11:47.92 It's true that, "sons of God," can refer to angels. 00:11:48.73\00:11:51.48 The sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, 00:11:51.51\00:11:54.78 in the book of Job. 00:11:54.81\00:11:55.95 Those are angels. 00:11:55.98\00:11:57.02 The sons of God sang and shouted for joy at creation, 00:11:57.05\00:12:00.20 Job 38 and verse 7. 00:12:00.23\00:12:01.87 Those are angels. 00:12:01.90\00:12:03.09 But just because the expression, "sons of God," is used 00:12:03.12\00:12:06.46 in one context doesn't mean that it means the same thing 00:12:06.62\00:12:09.42 in the other context. 00:12:09.45\00:12:10.48 Because, "sons of God," can also refer to converted people. 00:12:10.54\00:12:13.82 Are you following me or not? 00:12:14.05\00:12:15.47 Very important to take into account the context. 00:12:15.50\00:12:18.77 Now, by mingling the seed of the woman with his own seed, 00:12:19.40\00:12:25.05 Satan reduced the number of faithful people 00:12:26.18\00:12:29.19 on the planet to eight. 00:12:29.22\00:12:32.64 What was the devil's agenda? 00:12:34.18\00:12:35.74 The devil's agenda, see, he soon discovers, he says, 00:12:37.15\00:12:40.41 "It does no good to kill the seed, 00:12:40.61\00:12:42.61 because God brings another one. 00:12:43.48\00:12:45.05 What I'm going to do is, I'm going to mingle the two seeds." 00:12:45.66\00:12:48.93 And the devil knows that when you mingle the two seeds, 00:12:49.95\00:12:52.67 the wicked seed overwhelms the righteous seed. 00:12:53.00\00:12:55.84 And he says, "If I can mingle the two seeds, 00:12:56.98\00:12:59.49 God's seed will lose its identity, 00:12:59.71\00:13:02.17 the number of faithful people will dwindle 00:13:02.96\00:13:05.93 until eventually it will disappear. 00:13:06.13\00:13:08.88 And God will have no one through whom to bring the Messiah 00:13:08.91\00:13:12.03 into the world." 00:13:12.06\00:13:13.38 That is his plan B. 00:13:14.43\00:13:16.21 See, his plan A is to kill the Seed. 00:13:16.77\00:13:18.83 His plan B is to mingle the seeds in order to destroy 00:13:18.86\00:13:23.17 the holy line. 00:13:23.20\00:13:24.23 Did he try to do that all throughout the Old Testament, 00:13:24.26\00:13:26.33 destroy the holy line? 00:13:26.36\00:13:27.57 He used both methods. 00:13:27.84\00:13:29.35 Yesterday we studied about Esther. 00:13:29.38\00:13:30.72 He tried to destroy Israel. Why? 00:13:30.75\00:13:34.08 Because he knew that the Seed, at this point he knew the Seed 00:13:34.18\00:13:36.96 was going to come from the lineage of Israel. 00:13:36.99\00:13:39.57 So he says, "If I can wipe them out, then there's not 00:13:39.60\00:13:42.71 going to be that Seed that is going to crush my head." 00:13:42.74\00:13:44.96 Did the devil mingle Israel with the surrounding nations? 00:13:45.33\00:13:49.40 Of course, he wanted them to lose their identity. 00:13:49.43\00:13:52.46 Because he knew that there had to be a holy line 00:13:52.65\00:13:55.39 from which the Messiah would come. 00:13:55.42\00:13:57.33 Now if God had not wiped out the iniquitous 00:13:58.93\00:14:03.91 pre-flood race, the whole of humanity would have been 00:14:03.94\00:14:07.67 degenerated to the point where there would be 00:14:07.70\00:14:10.59 no holy line through which to introduce 00:14:10.62\00:14:14.03 the Messiah into the world. 00:14:14.06\00:14:16.36 That is his agenda. 00:14:16.55\00:14:18.80 And you see it time and again in the Old Testament. 00:14:19.01\00:14:21.84 The devil using both methods; trying to kill the seed 00:14:21.87\00:14:24.78 and trying to infiltrate the seed to try and prevent 00:14:24.81\00:14:28.67 the Messiah from coming. 00:14:28.70\00:14:30.06 Now let's go to our next section. 00:14:31.54\00:14:33.30 The sinfulness of the pre-flood race. 00:14:33.82\00:14:37.18 The almost total depravity of the race before the flood 00:14:37.89\00:14:41.60 is described in Genesis 6. 00:14:41.75\00:14:44.11 "Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man 00:14:44.71\00:14:49.52 was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts 00:14:49.55\00:14:56.24 of his heart was only evil continually." 00:14:56.27\00:15:02.25 How could God emphasize anymore than this 00:15:02.28\00:15:05.74 the evil and wicked condition of the world before the flood? 00:15:05.77\00:15:09.72 Is our world coming to that point? 00:15:09.75\00:15:13.42 I believe that our world is quickly coming 00:15:13.65\00:15:16.99 to that same point. 00:15:17.02\00:15:19.02 Now Genesis 6:11-12 emphasizes that the evil thoughts of men 00:15:19.51\00:15:25.99 were translated into action. 00:15:26.02\00:15:27.96 Isn't it true that we, many times, translate 00:15:27.99\00:15:31.73 our thoughts into action? 00:15:31.76\00:15:33.58 Yes. 00:15:34.50\00:15:35.54 "What we think, so we are," is what the wise man said. 00:15:35.64\00:15:39.95 Now notice what Genesis 6:11-12 tells us. 00:15:40.23\00:15:43.46 Because the thoughts of man were evil continually, 00:15:43.65\00:15:47.25 their behavior now reflects it. 00:15:47.45\00:15:49.21 Their conduct reflects it. 00:15:49.24\00:15:51.12 And so it says, "The earth was..." What? 00:15:51.43\00:15:54.93 "...corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 00:15:55.20\00:16:01.18 So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; 00:16:01.21\00:16:04.36 for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth." 00:16:04.39\00:16:10.38 Incidentally, when you find that word in Scripture, 00:16:10.48\00:16:14.23 "way," it means the conduct. 00:16:14.26\00:16:17.03 It means the behavior. 00:16:17.06\00:16:18.33 So in other words, because they thought evil continually, 00:16:19.53\00:16:24.36 now what did they do? 00:16:24.39\00:16:25.76 They acted evil continually. 00:16:25.79\00:16:28.77 That's why the battle is really the battle for the mind. 00:16:28.80\00:16:32.51 Whoever has your mind has you. 00:16:32.61\00:16:35.08 The battle is not for the conduct. 00:16:36.63\00:16:38.63 The battle is for the mind. 00:16:38.89\00:16:40.80 Because as you think, so you are. 00:16:40.83\00:16:43.91 See, that's why Jesus said that adultery does not begin 00:16:44.68\00:16:47.43 with a sinful act. 00:16:47.46\00:16:48.81 It begins with a sinful thought. 00:16:48.84\00:16:50.79 Isn't that right? 00:16:52.36\00:16:53.57 Whoever looks upon a woman to covet her 00:16:53.86\00:16:57.04 has already committed adultery in his heart. 00:16:57.48\00:16:59.62 And sooner or later, that thought will bear fruit. 00:16:59.65\00:17:04.69 And so we need to guard the mind. 00:17:05.10\00:17:07.53 The sin of the pre-flood race began in the mind. 00:17:07.90\00:17:10.93 It did not begin with behavior. 00:17:10.96\00:17:13.26 Now in Luke 17:26-30, both the story of the flood 00:17:14.05\00:17:19.14 and the story of Lot are presented as types 00:17:19.17\00:17:24.46 of the condition the world will be in at the end of time. 00:17:25.02\00:17:28.35 This must mean that the sins of Sodom 00:17:28.81\00:17:31.65 were similar to those which were being committed 00:17:31.75\00:17:34.86 before the flood. 00:17:34.89\00:17:36.27 Is that correct? 00:17:37.54\00:17:38.69 Let's go to Luke 17 and read that so that you can see 00:17:39.05\00:17:43.96 what we're talking about. 00:17:44.40\00:17:45.87 Let's go to Luke chapter 17 and verse 26. 00:17:48.10\00:17:52.10 You'll see that Jesus uses the experience of Noah 00:17:52.13\00:17:54.96 and the experience of Lot to foreshadow what the world is 00:17:55.06\00:17:59.35 going to be like in the destruction of the world. 00:17:59.38\00:18:01.51 It says there in verse 26, "And as it was in the days of Noah, 00:18:01.73\00:18:05.74 so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man. 00:18:05.94\00:18:10.49 They ate, they drank, they married wives, 00:18:10.69\00:18:13.15 they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah 00:18:13.18\00:18:15.62 entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 00:18:15.65\00:18:19.04 Likewise..." 00:18:19.07\00:18:20.80 In other words, in the same way. 00:18:21.17\00:18:23.20 "...as it was also in the days of Lot. 00:18:23.43\00:18:25.97 They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, 00:18:26.00\00:18:28.22 they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went 00:18:28.25\00:18:31.13 out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven 00:18:31.16\00:18:34.14 and destroyed them all. 00:18:34.17\00:18:35.56 Even so will it be in the day when the 00:18:35.59\00:18:38.50 Son of Man is revealed." 00:18:38.53\00:18:39.67 So do the stories of the flood and the story 00:18:39.70\00:18:42.76 of Sodom and Gomorrah overlap? 00:18:42.79\00:18:45.00 They most certainly do. 00:18:45.11\00:18:46.14 So let's read this note. 00:18:46.17\00:18:47.56 The name, "Sodom," has become synonymous 00:18:47.95\00:18:51.44 with sexual perversion. 00:18:51.47\00:18:53.42 We use the word, sodomy, right? 00:18:54.83\00:18:56.78 We know that homosexuality was practiced in the cities 00:18:57.33\00:19:00.71 of the plain. 00:19:00.74\00:19:01.84 Even to the point that the men of Sodom 00:19:02.16\00:19:04.60 wished to have sexual relations with the angels 00:19:04.80\00:19:08.95 who visited Lot's house. 00:19:08.98\00:19:10.88 Lot's daughters had learned the ways of Sodom very well. 00:19:11.38\00:19:14.92 They made their father drunk so that they could commit 00:19:15.54\00:19:18.39 incest with him. 00:19:18.42\00:19:19.91 So was the pre-flood world a world of sexual perversion? 00:19:21.79\00:19:26.89 Yes. 00:19:26.92\00:19:27.95 Were the cities in the days of Lot characterized 00:19:27.98\00:19:33.17 by sexual perversion? 00:19:33.20\00:19:34.97 Absolutely. 00:19:35.00\00:19:36.16 What about the world today? 00:19:36.19\00:19:37.99 Incidentally, do you know something very interesting? 00:19:38.86\00:19:41.17 Immediately after the men of Sodom gathered around 00:19:42.61\00:19:45.45 Lot's house, it says both young and old, the whole city, 00:19:45.48\00:19:48.81 all of the young and old in the city, the men, 00:19:49.02\00:19:51.75 gathered around Lot's house, and they said to Lot, 00:19:51.86\00:19:55.38 "Send those two men out to us because we want to know them." 00:19:55.59\00:19:59.16 And Lot had even become defiled with Sodom because he says, 00:19:59.98\00:20:02.50 "No, no, no, I've got two daughters. 00:20:02.53\00:20:04.11 You can do whatever you want with my daughters." 00:20:04.48\00:20:06.52 Have mercy. 00:20:06.71\00:20:07.98 So clearly, these individuals wanted to have sex 00:20:11.12\00:20:15.00 with the angels. 00:20:15.03\00:20:16.30 And you know what the next thing was? 00:20:16.80\00:20:18.48 The last sign before the door closed was this episode. 00:20:18.51\00:20:23.51 Immediately afterwards, we're told that the angels 00:20:23.93\00:20:27.02 pulled Lot in, because they wanted to do violence to Lot, 00:20:27.05\00:20:29.95 they pulled Lot in and the door was shut. 00:20:29.98\00:20:32.50 Probation was closed. 00:20:32.53\00:20:34.21 Now let's continue here. 00:20:36.67\00:20:38.10 Ezekiel 16:49-50 explains that Sodom had become 00:20:38.88\00:20:42.63 selfish and materialistic. 00:20:42.66\00:20:44.29 Of course, that's not true of the world today. 00:20:44.32\00:20:46.40 "She and her daughter had... 00:20:47.80\00:20:49.93 ...pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness..." 00:20:51.23\00:20:59.22 Lots of time on their hands. 00:20:59.25\00:21:01.51 "..neither did she strengthen the hand of the 00:21:01.61\00:21:04.51 poor and the needy." 00:21:04.95\00:21:07.86 This is greed. 00:21:08.68\00:21:10.43 Extreme selfishness and greed that ignored the needs 00:21:10.98\00:21:15.33 of those who had less. 00:21:15.71\00:21:17.46 And they wanted to accumulate and they wanted to pile up 00:21:17.49\00:21:20.37 possessions for themselves. 00:21:20.40\00:21:21.93 Does this characterize the world today? 00:21:21.96\00:21:24.40 Absolutely. 00:21:24.91\00:21:26.10 For a further graphic description of the 00:21:26.54\00:21:28.86 depravity of the pre-flood race, you can read the sickening 00:21:28.89\00:21:32.74 account in 2 Peter 2 verses 4 through 22. 00:21:32.77\00:21:36.73 There you have a gross description of what these 00:21:36.76\00:21:39.56 cities were like and what the world before the flood was like. 00:21:39.59\00:21:42.90 It makes you sick just to read this list of sins 00:21:42.93\00:21:46.15 in 2 Peter chapter 2 and verses 4 through 22. 00:21:46.18\00:21:50.14 So because of the wickedness of the world, 00:21:50.98\00:21:53.15 because most of the world had gone over to the devil's side, 00:21:53.99\00:21:57.62 due to the union of the sons of God with the daughters of men, 00:21:57.65\00:22:01.30 God raised up a preacher. 00:22:01.69\00:22:04.30 One person. 00:22:04.40\00:22:06.09 Does that person become symbolic of a worldwide movement 00:22:06.68\00:22:09.63 at the end of time? 00:22:09.66\00:22:11.09 Yes. 00:22:11.52\00:22:12.55 See, you have a literal individual. 00:22:12.70\00:22:14.69 And that literal individual symbolizes a whole people 00:22:14.97\00:22:18.36 at the end of time who proclaim a similar message. 00:22:18.39\00:22:21.57 Before the world was destroyed, God sent a powerful worldwide 00:22:21.90\00:22:27.00 message of warning. 00:22:27.03\00:22:28.21 Noah was a preacher of righteousness. 00:22:28.24\00:22:32.50 He was a preacher of righteousness. 00:22:32.60\00:22:34.83 He called the world to be righteous. 00:22:34.86\00:22:38.06 Judged by numerical standards, Noah's evangelistic crusade 00:22:38.91\00:22:43.49 was a tragic failure. 00:22:43.52\00:22:45.18 In fact, if he had been a pastor in one of our conferences, 00:22:46.38\00:22:50.77 he might have been fired. 00:22:51.16\00:22:53.02 Because he had a 120 year evangelistic crusade 00:22:54.36\00:22:58.53 and he only had seven people to show for it. 00:22:58.67\00:23:01.40 And they were all members of his own family. 00:23:01.43\00:23:03.60 Have mercy. 00:23:03.63\00:23:04.76 Just imagine, of the millions of people who lived on the planet, 00:23:06.27\00:23:11.83 only eight persons responded; and they were all members 00:23:12.14\00:23:15.34 of the same family. 00:23:15.37\00:23:16.72 If the story of Noah represents what will happen in 00:23:16.82\00:23:19.56 the end time, do you suppose that the majority 00:23:19.59\00:23:22.40 will be on God's side? 00:23:22.43\00:23:24.23 Noah did not preach a smooth message. 00:23:25.00\00:23:27.88 He denounced the sins of the antediluvians 00:23:28.09\00:23:31.18 and called them to repent and allow God 00:23:31.28\00:23:34.68 to change their behavior. 00:23:34.71\00:23:36.80 His was a message not only that God loves you, 00:23:37.48\00:23:40.48 but God wants you to give your life to Him 00:23:40.68\00:23:43.32 and He wants you to live a holy life. 00:23:43.35\00:23:45.42 His was a message of sanctification, 00:23:45.83\00:23:48.55 which the world needed to hear. 00:23:49.05\00:23:51.27 But Noah not only preached. 00:23:53.39\00:23:55.56 Noah also what? Built an ark. 00:23:56.15\00:24:01.54 In other words, his words were backed up by his actions. 00:24:02.69\00:24:06.74 And if you read Hebrews 11, you're going to notice 00:24:08.03\00:24:09.93 something very interesting. 00:24:09.96\00:24:11.11 In Hebrews 11, all of the heroes are doing something. 00:24:11.28\00:24:14.86 By faith, this; and by faith, that; 00:24:15.32\00:24:17.71 and by faith, the other. 00:24:17.74\00:24:19.20 By faith, Moses left. 00:24:19.40\00:24:21.08 By faith, Abel sacrificed. 00:24:21.18\00:24:23.45 In other words, they're doing something. 00:24:24.75\00:24:26.39 You see, man is not saved by faith alone. 00:24:26.49\00:24:29.70 Man is not saved by works. 00:24:31.27\00:24:33.55 Man is not saved by faith plus works. 00:24:34.11\00:24:36.93 Man is saved by a faith that works. 00:24:36.96\00:24:39.58 Because if your faith is not a working faith, 00:24:40.20\00:24:42.35 it's not faith. 00:24:42.38\00:24:43.51 In fact, James says that faith without works is dead. 00:24:43.78\00:24:48.01 And a dead faith can't save you. 00:24:48.04\00:24:49.78 Genuine faith always works. 00:24:50.70\00:24:52.66 So God says to Noah, "I'm going to inundate 00:24:52.81\00:24:55.66 the world with water." 00:24:55.69\00:24:57.26 Wow. 00:24:58.90\00:25:00.09 "I'm going to fill the earth with water. 00:25:00.51\00:25:02.41 And everybody is going to drown." 00:25:03.67\00:25:05.37 Did Noah believe God? 00:25:06.77\00:25:08.39 Of course he believed God. 00:25:09.02\00:25:10.05 Had he ever seen rain? 00:25:10.08\00:25:11.49 Never seen rain. He believed God. 00:25:11.69\00:25:13.75 The Bible says, "And it was accounted 00:25:14.34\00:25:15.63 to him for righteousness." 00:25:15.66\00:25:16.77 He believed God. 00:25:16.80\00:25:17.89 What did he do? 00:25:18.79\00:25:19.96 He went and got the saws and the hammers. 00:25:20.14\00:25:23.96 And I don't know if they had nails. 00:25:25.15\00:25:26.77 But what did he start doing? 00:25:28.17\00:25:29.88 Building the ark on dry land. 00:25:30.38\00:25:32.60 Did his actions show that he believed what God had told him? 00:25:33.28\00:25:36.64 Yes, his faith was shown by his works, by his actions. 00:25:37.14\00:25:41.72 These days it's very common for people simply to say, 00:25:42.37\00:25:46.87 "Oh, I believe in Jesus." 00:25:46.90\00:25:48.11 Well the devil believes in Jesus too. 00:25:48.14\00:25:49.83 But it's not a saving faith. 00:25:51.12\00:25:52.68 Saving faith works. 00:25:54.00\00:25:55.60 So Noah not only preached, but Noah worked to show 00:25:55.63\00:26:01.30 that he believed what he preached. 00:26:01.33\00:26:03.68 His words were backed up by his actions. 00:26:03.96\00:26:06.56 He had a faith that worked. 00:26:06.76\00:26:08.43 He invested all his time, efforts, strength, 00:26:09.16\00:26:13.77 talents, and resources into the building of the ark 00:26:13.88\00:26:18.57 while the rest of the people were saving for a rainy day. 00:26:18.98\00:26:22.49 Building the ark was not one job among many. 00:26:25.02\00:26:30.48 It was his primary task. 00:26:31.31\00:26:34.88 And also preaching was his primary task, right? 00:26:35.96\00:26:39.06 Notice that it was his building of the ark 00:26:39.50\00:26:42.87 which condemned the world. 00:26:42.90\00:26:44.76 Noah did the absurd because he believed God. 00:26:45.27\00:26:48.73 Faith simply means trusting God enough to do what He says. 00:26:49.35\00:26:53.73 But you cannot trust God unless you love Him. 00:26:54.65\00:26:57.34 And you cannot love Him unless you know Him. 00:26:57.80\00:27:00.54 And you cannot know Him unless you spend time with Him. 00:27:00.68\00:27:04.59 There's a sequence there. 00:27:05.85\00:27:07.50 Noah's preaching was accompanied by the 00:27:08.70\00:27:10.87 power of the Holy Spirit. 00:27:10.90\00:27:13.23 Is this all symbolic of the end time? 00:27:13.53\00:27:15.47 Does God have a message calling the world to righteousness 00:27:16.64\00:27:19.42 at the end of time? 00:27:19.45\00:27:20.60 He most certainly does. 00:27:20.63\00:27:21.98 Will the works of God's people show that they believe the 00:27:22.69\00:27:25.69 message that Jesus really is coming soon? 00:27:25.72\00:27:27.83 Will it involve how we use our time? 00:27:28.36\00:27:30.39 Will it involve how we use our resources? 00:27:31.13\00:27:33.53 Will it involve how we use our talents? 00:27:33.80\00:27:35.93 How we use our strength? 00:27:36.69\00:27:38.15 Yeah, because we can say, "Oh, I believe Jesus is coming, 00:27:38.25\00:27:41.42 and He's coming soon." 00:27:41.45\00:27:42.51 And we live in a huge mansion, and we have a Lamborghini. 00:27:42.54\00:27:45.72 I'm exaggerating for effect. 00:27:45.75\00:27:47.40 And you know, we have bunches of money in the bank. 00:27:47.43\00:27:50.29 And you know, we dress with thousand dollar suits. 00:27:50.32\00:27:54.05 And you know, when that happens, do we really believe 00:27:54.08\00:27:57.21 that Jesus is coming soon? 00:27:57.24\00:27:58.77 You see, our life shows if we believe that 00:27:59.34\00:28:01.85 Jesus is coming soon or not. 00:28:01.88\00:28:03.76 What we do with our resources, with our strength, 00:28:04.14\00:28:06.57 with our time, and with our talents, 00:28:06.60\00:28:08.29 the world will see and they will believe if our actions 00:28:08.32\00:28:12.81 are in harmony with our faith. 00:28:12.84\00:28:14.54 Interestingly enough. 00:28:17.31\00:28:18.85 The Spirit was striving. 00:28:20.01\00:28:21.68 "My Spirit shall not always strive with men." 00:28:21.78\00:28:24.43 That means that the Spirit was striving during the 120 years. 00:28:24.46\00:28:27.63 Now the note is very interesting. 00:28:27.84\00:28:29.59 The Hebrew word, "strive," means, to plead a cause, 00:28:29.62\00:28:34.88 to contend, or to judge. 00:28:34.98\00:28:36.83 In fact, most of the time in the Old Testament 00:28:36.86\00:28:39.37 where that word, "strive" or "contend," is used, 00:28:39.40\00:28:43.44 it is translated, "judge." 00:28:43.55\00:28:46.29 So the message of Noah was a message of judgment. 00:28:46.75\00:28:51.43 The Holy Spirit not only strove with human hearts, 00:28:51.97\00:28:54.82 but in the process, the same Spirit was also judging them 00:28:55.02\00:28:58.67 based on their response to His pleading. 00:28:58.70\00:29:01.71 Noah's preaching was a judgment hour message. 00:29:02.29\00:29:06.84 Is that true of the end time as well? 00:29:06.94\00:29:09.03 Is the purpose of the message to divide the world 00:29:09.54\00:29:11.70 into two groups? 00:29:11.73\00:29:13.11 Absolutely. 00:29:13.14\00:29:14.39 The bottom of page 2, the pre-flood race was given 00:29:14.81\00:29:17.32 a period of probation. 00:29:17.35\00:29:19.48 Of how long? 00:29:19.51\00:29:20.56 120 years. 00:29:20.89\00:29:23.28 And you say, "Well, is the probation for the world 00:29:24.11\00:29:26.72 going to be 120 years?" 00:29:26.75\00:29:28.41 No, we don't apply the year/day principle 00:29:28.80\00:29:30.78 to historical accounts. 00:29:30.81\00:29:32.63 That's why you need to read the material 00:29:32.83\00:29:34.72 that I gave you on miniature symbolization. 00:29:34.91\00:29:38.34 I deal with this specific time period. 00:29:38.44\00:29:40.26 Some people are re-applying this time period. 00:29:40.29\00:29:42.50 But the time periods in the historical sections... 00:29:43.43\00:29:46.00 See, this is what you call typology. 00:29:46.20\00:29:48.67 This is not direct apocalyptic prophecy. 00:29:48.77\00:29:51.49 It's a story in the Old Testament 00:29:51.63\00:29:53.17 that foreshadows the future. 00:29:53.37\00:29:55.23 But the time period is not to be understood 00:29:55.26\00:29:58.38 by the year/day principle. 00:29:58.81\00:30:00.04 Are you understanding me? 00:30:00.07\00:30:01.32 So the pre-flood race was given a period of 00:30:02.03\00:30:04.28 probation of 120 years. 00:30:04.31\00:30:06.03 As soon as Noah's preaching was over, the... What? 00:30:06.06\00:30:09.45 ...the door would be shut and probation would... 00:30:09.60\00:30:13.89 ...close. 00:30:14.53\00:30:16.20 Have you ever notice that Noah's message was accompanied 00:30:17.42\00:30:20.07 by a powerful miracle? 00:30:20.10\00:30:21.90 Do you know Ellen White says that God's people 00:30:22.10\00:30:24.38 not only will preach with power the loud cry, 00:30:24.54\00:30:27.24 but she says that miracles will follow God's people. 00:30:27.47\00:30:30.15 Now what was the miracle that took place in the days of Noah? 00:30:30.46\00:30:34.13 Noah did not have to hunt the animals down, 00:30:34.30\00:30:36.95 like Hollywood's version says. 00:30:36.98\00:30:39.02 You know, that Noah's sons are pulling, they're yanking 00:30:39.92\00:30:42.82 on the rope, you know, trying to get the animals 00:30:42.85\00:30:44.71 to come into the ark. 00:30:44.74\00:30:45.79 No, no, no, no, no. 00:30:45.82\00:30:47.19 The animals obeyed the voice of God 00:30:48.25\00:30:50.51 and went into the ark to Noah. 00:30:51.07\00:30:54.38 That's what it says; Noah didn't go searching for them. 00:30:54.52\00:30:56.49 They went into Noah. 00:30:56.52\00:30:58.37 You know, the animals had more sense than the people. 00:30:59.14\00:31:01.39 Human beings had descended to a sub-human level, 00:31:03.75\00:31:07.38 I believe is what God is trying to teach here. 00:31:07.59\00:31:09.94 In fact, we're going to notice an interesting note in a moment. 00:31:09.97\00:31:12.99 The miracle of the animals obeying God and entering the ark 00:31:13.09\00:31:15.82 seems to indicate that human beings had fallen 00:31:15.85\00:31:18.87 below animal level. 00:31:18.90\00:31:20.37 This is the reason why Jude 10 calls them brute beasts. 00:31:20.61\00:31:25.66 Which is an insult to the beasts. 00:31:26.58\00:31:29.09 Before the flood, it had never rained. 00:31:30.38\00:31:33.61 You know, you tell people today that the earth is going to 00:31:34.60\00:31:36.65 be destroyed by fire, they say, "Come on, be real. 00:31:36.68\00:31:39.11 Who would ever believe such a fairy tale?" 00:31:39.72\00:31:41.89 You know, they said the same thing in the days of Noah. 00:31:42.81\00:31:45.28 Before the flood, it had never rained. 00:31:46.25\00:31:48.03 The earth was not watered from above, but rather a 00:31:48.57\00:31:51.93 mist went up from the earth and watered the 00:31:52.22\00:31:54.95 whole face of the earth. 00:31:54.98\00:31:56.55 In other words, the earth was watered not by water from above, 00:31:56.65\00:32:00.44 but by water from below. 00:32:00.47\00:32:02.05 Let's read the note. 00:32:02.08\00:32:03.37 The planet was covered with water before creation. 00:32:04.04\00:32:06.85 On the second day, God placed part of the water 00:32:07.29\00:32:09.93 above the earth and part of the water under the earth. 00:32:09.96\00:32:12.73 That's what is called the windows of heaven 00:32:13.16\00:32:14.98 and the fountains of the great deep, incidentally. 00:32:15.01\00:32:17.57 The water above provided a uniform climate. 00:32:18.04\00:32:21.48 The whole world was indoors, and the water below 00:32:21.51\00:32:24.87 sprinkled the earth. 00:32:24.90\00:32:26.21 At the flood, God did not have to create water. 00:32:26.62\00:32:29.98 He merely brought the waters above back down, 00:32:30.67\00:32:33.82 and the waters below back up. 00:32:33.85\00:32:35.71 Just imagine Noah trying to convince the pre-flood race 00:32:36.23\00:32:39.49 that it was going to rain. 00:32:39.59\00:32:41.13 This appeared illogical, unreasonable, 00:32:41.32\00:32:43.70 unscientific, and empirically absurd. 00:32:43.73\00:32:47.21 And yet Noah still preached. 00:32:47.24\00:32:50.82 So no matter how absurd it might appear that we 00:32:51.93\00:32:55.21 believe that Jesus is coming soon, and no matter how much 00:32:55.24\00:32:58.63 the secular world, you know, thinks that this is ridiculous 00:32:58.66\00:33:02.89 and it's unscientific, they need to remember the days of Noah. 00:33:02.92\00:33:07.05 Because in the days of Noah, scientists and theologians 00:33:07.34\00:33:11.15 and the great men of the earth believed the same thing. 00:33:11.35\00:33:14.78 Now let's talk about the close of probationary time. 00:33:15.92\00:33:18.49 When Noah finished building and preaching, 00:33:19.16\00:33:21.59 the Lord shut him in. 00:33:22.11\00:33:24.77 Who shut the door? 00:33:24.80\00:33:25.94 The Lord shut the door. 00:33:26.45\00:33:28.12 Is there going to be a shut door for the world 00:33:28.15\00:33:30.47 before Jesus comes, before the destruction comes? 00:33:30.70\00:33:33.42 Absolutely. See this is a typology. 00:33:33.52\00:33:36.10 Now at the end time, we're not talking about a literal ark. 00:33:36.72\00:33:39.54 No matter what that 2012 movie says. 00:33:40.29\00:33:42.95 We're not talking about a literal ark. 00:33:43.44\00:33:45.40 We're not talking about a literal door. 00:33:46.40\00:33:48.62 We're not talking about a literal person. 00:33:49.28\00:33:51.42 We're not talking about literal rain. 00:33:52.00\00:33:53.79 Are you following me? 00:33:54.33\00:33:55.41 We're not talking about building a literal boat. 00:33:55.93\00:33:58.10 The literal becomes symbolic of the spiritual. 00:33:58.13\00:34:01.94 Are you seeing the principle? 00:34:01.97\00:34:03.46 Now when the door of the ark closed, the saved were saved 00:34:04.19\00:34:07.88 and the lost were lost. 00:34:07.91\00:34:09.31 After this, there would be no changing of sides. 00:34:10.91\00:34:14.03 At this time, the Holy Spirit ceased to strive with 00:34:14.71\00:34:17.74 the hearts of humanity. 00:34:17.77\00:34:18.92 Was the Holy Spirit withdrawn at that point? 00:34:19.12\00:34:21.07 Yes. Is the Holy Spirit going to withdrawn for the earth? 00:34:21.51\00:34:24.30 See, we don't have to prepare for the second coming. 00:34:26.13\00:34:27.95 We have to prepare for the close of probation. 00:34:27.98\00:34:30.15 Because all cases will be decided at that point. 00:34:30.43\00:34:33.51 And by the way, probation closes when we die too. 00:34:33.54\00:34:36.21 If we don't reach the probation, corporate probation 00:34:37.14\00:34:39.37 for the world, where we should die, 00:34:39.40\00:34:41.28 our probation is finished. 00:34:41.31\00:34:42.47 That's why we need to live with Christ every day. 00:34:42.50\00:34:44.87 We have to have a relationship with Him every day. 00:34:45.55\00:34:47.63 Now notice, although those outside the ark were lost 00:34:49.98\00:34:53.83 when the door shut, they did not know it 00:34:53.86\00:34:57.28 until it started to rain. 00:34:57.31\00:34:59.60 Noah and his family were in the ark for seven days. 00:35:00.21\00:35:04.36 Ellen White says it started to rain on the eight day. 00:35:04.63\00:35:07.03 So it was seven complete days before it started to rain. 00:35:07.06\00:35:12.07 Have you ever wondered why God left Noah and his family 00:35:12.64\00:35:15.40 in the ark for seven days before it started to rain? 00:35:15.43\00:35:19.64 God could have made it rain the very day that they entered, 00:35:20.35\00:35:23.49 but He didn't. 00:35:23.52\00:35:24.70 Is there some theological reason to that? 00:35:24.73\00:35:27.08 Of course. 00:35:27.11\00:35:28.14 The faith of Noah and his family was tested to the utmost 00:35:28.38\00:35:32.42 during this period. 00:35:32.45\00:35:33.48 Do you suppose that each day that passed, 00:35:33.51\00:35:34.93 Noah and his family said, "Wow, no rain. 00:35:34.96\00:35:37.78 No rain. 00:35:38.16\00:35:39.31 No rain." 00:35:39.65\00:35:40.89 The devil was probably trying to convince them 00:35:42.06\00:35:44.02 that they were wrong. 00:35:44.22\00:35:45.85 And how do you suppose the wicked behaved 00:35:46.93\00:35:49.33 for each day that passed? 00:35:49.36\00:35:50.75 Oh, each day they partied more. 00:35:51.04\00:35:52.86 They said, "Ha, they're crazy. 00:35:52.89\00:35:54.35 They're in there with all those animals." 00:35:54.46\00:35:56.38 You know, some people say, "How could they take enough 00:35:57.17\00:35:59.00 food for all of those animals for the year plus 00:35:59.03\00:36:03.43 that they spent inside the ark?" 00:36:03.47\00:36:04.62 See, people try to find all kinds of excuses 00:36:04.65\00:36:06.87 to not believe it. 00:36:06.90\00:36:07.93 And what I believe, this is not inspired, 00:36:07.96\00:36:10.40 what I believe is that God made all the animals hibernate. 00:36:10.43\00:36:13.89 Could God make them hibernate? 00:36:15.99\00:36:18.20 Of course He could. 00:36:18.23\00:36:19.47 It might be that they didn't have to take any food in there. 00:36:19.50\00:36:22.22 That God put them, you know, He put them to hibernate. 00:36:22.67\00:36:25.68 And therefore, they didn't have to eat. 00:36:25.71\00:36:27.92 But anyway, that's my own speculation. 00:36:27.95\00:36:30.07 And I'll tell you, when speculation is mine, 00:36:30.27\00:36:32.07 I'll tell you. 00:36:32.10\00:36:33.13 Now, the faith of Noah and his family was tested 00:36:34.23\00:36:38.07 to the utmost during this period. 00:36:38.10\00:36:39.87 They must have wondered, "Will God fulfill His word 00:36:39.90\00:36:42.97 and send the flood after all?" 00:36:43.00\00:36:44.40 This was a time of triumph for those outside the ark 00:36:44.88\00:36:47.94 and a time of apparent defeat for those in the ark. 00:36:48.04\00:36:50.95 The same terminology that Ellen White uses 00:36:50.98\00:36:53.15 regarding the time of trouble. 00:36:53.18\00:36:54.55 We can imagine the ridicule and the imprecations 00:36:54.74\00:36:58.06 of the multitude. 00:36:58.16\00:36:59.57 But then very early on the eighth day, 00:37:00.74\00:37:02.86 you see these unidentified flying objects. 00:37:05.50\00:37:08.54 Clouds. 00:37:10.50\00:37:12.07 And suddenly, there is thunder and there is lightning. 00:37:13.19\00:37:18.39 And drops of rain begin to fall. 00:37:19.39\00:37:21.16 And do you know that Ellen White says that they were so hardened, 00:37:21.19\00:37:24.88 the antediluvian world, that the great men and the scientists 00:37:25.16\00:37:28.52 said, "Oh, this will pass." 00:37:28.55\00:37:30.44 But then, the rain started falling in torrents. 00:37:31.45\00:37:35.21 You know, I went to Iguazu Falls. 00:37:35.64\00:37:37.59 You know, it's where Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil meet. 00:37:39.24\00:37:45.05 And that is, I mean it's thunderous. 00:37:45.61\00:37:47.61 It's spectacular. 00:37:47.64\00:37:48.72 That was about a year and a half ago that I was there. 00:37:48.75\00:37:51.41 And when I was standing there looking at the Iguazu Falls, 00:37:51.57\00:37:55.02 which, oh they cover a large distance, 00:37:55.05\00:37:58.14 and I could hear the thunder of the water, you know, 00:37:58.41\00:38:01.39 crashing down into the river, I said, "Man, can you imagine 00:38:01.59\00:38:05.97 what it would be like for this to be taking place 00:38:06.00\00:38:08.15 all over the world?" 00:38:08.18\00:38:09.51 Because that's what the flood was like. 00:38:10.30\00:38:12.16 Cataracts... 00:38:12.83\00:38:14.18 ...I mean, I mean, waterfalls gushed out of the heavens. 00:38:15.49\00:38:20.88 And water gushed out of the earth. 00:38:21.42\00:38:23.25 And Ellen White says that huge boulders were thrown 00:38:23.28\00:38:25.72 hundreds of feet into the air by these jets of water 00:38:25.75\00:38:29.21 that came from the earth. 00:38:29.24\00:38:30.54 The flood was a worldwide cataclysm. 00:38:32.27\00:38:34.61 Some have thought that the flood was some local affair 00:38:35.27\00:38:38.33 in the valley of Mesopotamia. 00:38:38.36\00:38:40.23 There's Adventist theology teachers that teach this 00:38:40.48\00:38:44.15 in some of our institutions. 00:38:44.48\00:38:46.40 That the flood was a local affair. 00:38:46.75\00:38:48.89 Or some are teaching... 00:38:50.14\00:38:51.32 And I'm not sure that in the Adventist church 00:38:51.35\00:38:52.88 they've gone this far; 00:38:52.91\00:38:55.09 to teach that the flood story is a myth. 00:38:55.30\00:38:58.20 But there are several biblical, historical, and geological 00:38:58.79\00:39:01.62 reasons why this was a real worldwide flood 00:39:01.65\00:39:05.94 in space and in time. 00:39:06.04\00:39:08.74 Now you can read all of these reasons. 00:39:09.12\00:39:12.23 They cover about a page and a half. 00:39:12.43\00:39:16.18 I'm not going to go through those because you have them 00:39:16.21\00:39:18.28 in your material. 00:39:18.31\00:39:19.50 What I will mention is that in the Bible, 00:39:19.94\00:39:23.74 in the Old Testament, there are about eleven words 00:39:24.10\00:39:27.29 that are translated, "flood," into English. 00:39:27.32\00:39:29.96 Eleven different Hebrew words. 00:39:29.99\00:39:31.87 But when it comes to the flood in Noah's day, 00:39:32.60\00:39:34.86 there's one unique word that is used only 00:39:34.89\00:39:37.89 for the flood in Noah's day. 00:39:37.92\00:39:40.27 And that is the Hebrew word, "mabbul." 00:39:40.69\00:39:43.26 It's not used for any other kind of flood. 00:39:43.49\00:39:45.37 And in the New Testament, you have basically 00:39:45.86\00:39:48.68 two words for, "flood." 00:39:48.71\00:39:50.05 One is the word, "potamos." 00:39:50.29\00:39:52.54 And that's the word, for example, that is used... 00:39:52.89\00:39:54.89 Remember the man who built his house upon the sand, 00:39:54.92\00:39:57.14 and the man who built his house upon the rock; 00:39:57.48\00:39:59.19 and the flood came. 00:39:59.22\00:40:01.03 Well that's the word, "potamos." 00:40:01.18\00:40:02.87 Incidentally, this is where we get the word, "hippo potamos," 00:40:03.27\00:40:06.68 Hippopotamus. 00:40:06.71\00:40:08.33 See, potamus means river or flood, 00:40:08.55\00:40:11.29 and hypo means under. 00:40:11.50\00:40:13.43 So it means an animal that swims under water. 00:40:13.63\00:40:16.95 Hypo potamos. 00:40:17.39\00:40:18.71 But anyway, aside from that, the word that is used 00:40:18.96\00:40:23.10 generally in the New Testament for, "flood," 00:40:23.13\00:40:25.12 is the word, "potamos." 00:40:25.15\00:40:26.18 But when it comes to the flood in the days of Noah, 00:40:26.21\00:40:29.89 a special word is used. 00:40:30.06\00:40:32.97 It is the Greek word, "kataklysmos." 00:40:33.42\00:40:36.97 What word do we get in English from kataklysmos? 00:40:37.77\00:40:41.25 The word, cataclysm. 00:40:41.28\00:40:43.19 In other words, the flood was a cataclysm. 00:40:43.58\00:40:46.32 It was a catastrophe. 00:40:46.52\00:40:48.54 It covered the whole world. 00:40:48.95\00:40:51.18 And it disfigured the world. 00:40:51.51\00:40:53.07 In fact, we're going to notice that the world 00:40:53.10\00:40:55.17 returned to the condition it was in before creation week. 00:40:55.20\00:40:58.77 Now going to just below the middle of page four. 00:40:59.98\00:41:03.19 When the flood came, the fountains of the great 00:41:03.67\00:41:07.51 deep were broken up. 00:41:07.71\00:41:09.73 And the windows of heaven were opened. 00:41:09.76\00:41:13.08 In other words, water came from above and water came from below. 00:41:13.11\00:41:17.21 Noah and his family, listen carefully, were on earth 00:41:17.60\00:41:21.78 during the destruction, but they were preserved 00:41:21.81\00:41:25.65 by divine power. 00:41:25.68\00:41:27.16 Did Noah and his family go through the tribulation? 00:41:28.72\00:41:31.10 Did the three young men go through the tribulation? 00:41:32.51\00:41:35.05 Did Daniel go through the tribulation? 00:41:36.07\00:41:38.25 But the end time generation, God is going to be merciful. 00:41:39.33\00:41:41.77 They're not going to go through the tribulation, right? 00:41:41.80\00:41:44.09 Of course God's people are going to go through the tribulation. 00:41:44.97\00:41:47.70 The worst in the history of the world. 00:41:48.02\00:41:50.15 But the good news is that we have Psalm 91. 00:41:50.73\00:41:53.88 No plague will befall God's people. 00:41:55.07\00:41:58.14 We will dwell under the shadow of the Almighty. 00:41:58.65\00:42:02.30 Praise the Lord. 00:42:02.33\00:42:03.36 So we better have a covenant with Him. 00:42:03.39\00:42:05.02 We better have a covenant with Jesus. 00:42:05.45\00:42:07.18 Because when we are allied with Jesus, 00:42:07.21\00:42:09.50 He will be our Protector. 00:42:09.53\00:42:11.35 He is the Shepherd. 00:42:11.38\00:42:12.73 He is the Head. 00:42:12.76\00:42:13.79 He is the Husband. 00:42:14.07\00:42:15.47 He is the Suzerain or the Sovereign over His people. 00:42:15.77\00:42:19.18 And He has committed Himself to protecting His people 00:42:19.28\00:42:22.20 in the catastrophe to come. 00:42:22.23\00:42:24.75 Let's read the note. 00:42:25.17\00:42:26.33 The word during the flood returned to pre-creation chaos. 00:42:26.36\00:42:30.27 That is, to an empty and disorderly state. 00:42:30.75\00:42:33.62 Was the earth dark, yes or no? 00:42:34.27\00:42:36.22 Was is covered with water? 00:42:36.95\00:42:38.66 Was there anyone alive? No. 00:42:39.53\00:42:42.25 Is that the condition of the earth before creation week? 00:42:42.28\00:42:44.82 Was it dark, according to Genesis 1? Yes. 00:42:45.20\00:42:48.08 Was it covered with water? Yes. 00:42:48.11\00:42:50.35 Were there any inhabitants? No. 00:42:50.38\00:42:53.06 So the world returned at the flood to the condition it was in 00:42:53.09\00:42:56.02 before creation week. 00:42:56.47\00:42:58.06 And let me just clarify something. 00:42:58.16\00:42:59.98 Some people say, "Oh, so you believe that the earth 00:43:00.01\00:43:02.24 was here before creation week?" 00:43:02.27\00:43:03.99 Well there are two views. 00:43:04.02\00:43:05.17 One view is that this planet existed for who knows how long. 00:43:05.63\00:43:10.56 And then at some point, God decided to do 00:43:10.76\00:43:13.62 the events of creation week. 00:43:13.65\00:43:15.14 In other words, life exists only from the time of creation week. 00:43:15.17\00:43:19.76 Others believe that God created this world, 00:43:20.87\00:43:23.66 and immediately you have the events of creation week. 00:43:23.69\00:43:26.45 Now I have not defined in my mind which of the two 00:43:27.75\00:43:31.00 is the best one. 00:43:31.63\00:43:33.78 Because there are conservative scholars that believe 00:43:33.89\00:43:37.82 one or the other. 00:43:37.85\00:43:39.03 But let me say that it's really not that important. 00:43:39.06\00:43:42.70 The thing that is really important is when 00:43:43.72\00:43:46.22 creation week took place, when life came into this world. 00:43:46.25\00:43:50.60 Because if this planet existed here for millions of years 00:43:50.63\00:43:54.44 before creation week, it's irrelevant to us. 00:43:54.54\00:43:58.56 Because our idea is that the world is about 6000 years old 00:43:59.08\00:44:02.70 since creation week. 00:44:02.73\00:44:04.09 Now if God created the world right away and then He 00:44:04.50\00:44:07.67 did the seven days of creation immediately, 00:44:07.70\00:44:10.57 well that's good too. 00:44:10.93\00:44:12.13 But it doesn't really matter when it comes to 00:44:12.44\00:44:15.34 the theological position of the church. 00:44:15.37\00:44:17.38 I don't think, anyway. 00:44:17.41\00:44:18.87 And so, you know, let me give you an illustration. 00:44:19.49\00:44:21.88 Let suppose that at some point God decides 00:44:21.91\00:44:25.87 to create life on Jupiter. 00:44:25.90\00:44:27.61 How long has Jupiter been there? 00:44:29.43\00:44:31.20 Who knows how long Jupiter has been there. 00:44:31.40\00:44:33.60 So God decides to create on Jupiter 00:44:33.90\00:44:37.04 throughout a period of seven days. 00:44:38.05\00:44:39.86 I mean, would that be a theological problem? 00:44:39.89\00:44:42.21 No, no theological problem at all. 00:44:42.69\00:44:44.87 Jupiter is there, it has no life. 00:44:44.90\00:44:46.68 It's lifeless. 00:44:46.71\00:44:47.81 The key point is when creation begins, creation week. 00:44:47.84\00:44:51.81 Are you following me or not? 00:44:51.91\00:44:53.21 Uh now, let's notice. 00:44:53.74\00:44:55.36 The world during the flood returned to pre-creation chaos. 00:44:55.95\00:44:58.81 That is, to an empty and disorderly state. 00:44:58.84\00:45:01.19 All the wicked perished during this period. 00:45:01.59\00:45:03.96 What do you suppose happened to Satan during this period? 00:45:03.99\00:45:07.58 Now here's where it gets interesting. 00:45:08.03\00:45:09.62 The world returned to the condition 00:45:09.65\00:45:11.02 it was in before creation. 00:45:11.05\00:45:12.38 Now what happens to Satan. 00:45:12.41\00:45:14.03 Listen to what Ellen White has to say. 00:45:14.06\00:45:15.87 Patriarchs and Prophets, page 99. 00:45:16.45\00:45:18.52 "Satan himself, who was compelled to remain in the 00:45:18.72\00:45:23.83 midst of the warring elements, feared for his own existence." 00:45:23.86\00:45:28.08 What a cataclysm this must have been 00:45:28.11\00:45:30.43 that the devil feared for his own existence, 00:45:30.99\00:45:33.20 according to the spirit of prophecy. 00:45:33.23\00:45:34.76 And by the way, was the devil bound to this earth? 00:45:34.98\00:45:38.45 Yes. 00:45:39.75\00:45:40.80 How was he bound? 00:45:41.73\00:45:43.11 He had no followers. They were all dead. 00:45:44.58\00:45:46.46 Is the devil going to be bound here during the millennium 00:45:48.08\00:45:50.56 after the world returns to the condition it was in 00:45:50.59\00:45:52.71 before creation? 00:45:52.74\00:45:53.87 Yes. Will he be bound? 00:45:54.47\00:45:56.53 Yes, because all of his followers will be dead. 00:45:56.72\00:46:00.30 You see the parallel? 00:46:01.09\00:46:02.28 Now, when Noah and his family came out of the ark, 00:46:03.36\00:46:07.50 the earth had been cleansed of sinners and was totally changed. 00:46:07.75\00:46:12.62 The world which then was perished, 00:46:12.82\00:46:17.25 being flooded with water. 00:46:17.28\00:46:19.25 Now are we to understand this whole story typologically? 00:46:19.59\00:46:22.81 Is Noah a type? 00:46:23.40\00:46:25.06 He's a type of a people. 00:46:25.75\00:46:27.33 Is the ark a type? 00:46:27.64\00:46:29.33 Yeah, 1 Peter 3 says it represents the church. 00:46:29.83\00:46:33.17 Is the door typological? 00:46:34.24\00:46:36.58 Yes, the door is typological. 00:46:37.26\00:46:38.85 We're dealing with typology here. 00:46:38.88\00:46:41.05 In other words, what was literal now becomes what? 00:46:41.25\00:46:45.18 Many of the details, at least, become symbolic. 00:46:45.28\00:46:48.47 Now, did Jesus tell us that this story was typological? 00:46:49.31\00:46:52.89 Yes He did. 00:46:52.92\00:46:53.95 Jesus and the flood story. 00:46:54.53\00:46:56.30 In Matthew 24, Jesus drew a parallel between 00:46:57.05\00:47:00.85 the flood story and His coming. 00:47:00.88\00:47:02.45 He said, "But as the days of Noah were, 00:47:02.92\00:47:05.86 so also will the coming of the Son of Man be." 00:47:05.89\00:47:12.35 Now it's interesting to notice that the word, "until," 00:47:14.30\00:47:16.84 is used how many times? 00:47:16.87\00:47:19.18 It's used twice. 00:47:19.68\00:47:21.50 And perhaps we should take a look at that. 00:47:22.49\00:47:24.47 Let's go in our Bibles to Matthew chapter 24. 00:47:24.50\00:47:27.80 Matthew chapter 24. 00:47:28.48\00:47:30.52 Because this is the critically important point for this time. 00:47:30.92\00:47:34.15 And let's read beginning with verse 37. 00:47:34.80\00:47:37.57 The word, "until," is used twice. 00:47:38.56\00:47:40.93 It says, "But as the days of Noah were, 00:47:41.36\00:47:43.87 so also will the coming of the Son of Man be." 00:47:44.40\00:47:47.66 And we usually say the coming of the Son of Man 00:47:47.69\00:47:49.51 is the second coming. 00:47:49.54\00:47:50.66 It includes the second coming, but it is not 00:47:51.87\00:47:54.08 only the second coming that is being compared here. 00:47:54.28\00:47:57.94 Let's notice verse 38. 00:47:58.34\00:47:59.98 "For as in the days before the flood, they were eating 00:48:00.49\00:48:04.09 and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage," 00:48:04.12\00:48:06.91 now listen, "until the day that Noah entered the ark..." 00:48:07.76\00:48:12.62 So the word, "until," marks which point of time? 00:48:12.65\00:48:15.92 When they entered the ark. 00:48:16.64\00:48:18.14 "...and they did not know..." 00:48:20.19\00:48:22.09 Who did not know? 00:48:22.12\00:48:23.39 The wicked. 00:48:24.17\00:48:25.20 Because, you know, it says they were eating and drinking, 00:48:26.38\00:48:29.11 marrying and giving in marriage. 00:48:29.14\00:48:30.55 It's talking about them. 00:48:30.58\00:48:31.70 "...they did not know..." 00:48:32.50\00:48:33.68 And now comes the second "until." 00:48:33.71\00:48:35.33 "...they did not know until the flood came 00:48:35.36\00:48:38.05 and took them all away." 00:48:38.15\00:48:39.29 Now, so you have two "until." 00:48:39.32\00:48:40.94 When the door closes, and the second "until" 00:48:42.36\00:48:44.93 when it begins to rain. 00:48:45.44\00:48:46.81 And in between, those who were outside the ark did not know. 00:48:47.49\00:48:51.53 What didn't they know? 00:48:51.63\00:48:52.91 They did not know that they were lost. 00:48:53.70\00:48:56.27 Is there a parallel between that and what is going to 00:48:58.77\00:49:02.35 happen at the end of time? 00:49:02.38\00:49:03.84 Yes, because probation is going to close 00:49:05.44\00:49:08.47 before Jesus comes. 00:49:09.13\00:49:10.93 And the world will basically be oblivious 00:49:11.86\00:49:15.11 to the fact that probation has closed, 00:49:15.68\00:49:17.54 that the door has closed. 00:49:17.57\00:49:19.10 And they will continue marrying and giving in marriage, 00:49:19.61\00:49:24.15 planting, building, eating, drinking. 00:49:24.61\00:49:28.88 They will continue business as usual, 00:49:28.91\00:49:32.02 unconscious that the door of probation has closed. 00:49:33.01\00:49:35.86 And they will only know that they're lost 00:49:36.32\00:49:38.75 when fire descends from heaven, when Jesus comes in the clouds. 00:49:39.57\00:49:43.56 That's what Jesus was referring to when He says, 00:49:45.18\00:49:47.46 "As it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be 00:49:47.82\00:49:51.37 at the coming of the Son of Man." 00:49:51.40\00:49:52.58 Let me illustrate the point. 00:49:52.61\00:49:53.95 Let's suppose that it's... 00:49:56.00\00:49:57.69 Well, anybody here from Michigan? 00:49:58.80\00:50:00.65 Or Wisconsin? That area of the country? 00:50:01.80\00:50:03.82 Well, aren't you ever lucky. 00:50:04.87\00:50:07.27 Actually, I'm from Wisconsin. It's very cold. 00:50:08.09\00:50:10.15 Anyway, they've had real freezing cold weather 00:50:10.18\00:50:12.58 in that area, you know; Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan. 00:50:12.78\00:50:16.53 It's been a really raw winter. 00:50:16.63\00:50:18.89 So I want you to imagine that, you know, you get home 00:50:19.09\00:50:22.09 one afternoon after a long day of work. 00:50:22.29\00:50:24.61 You've shoveled the snow out on your driveway. 00:50:24.92\00:50:28.42 And you come into the house and you have supper. 00:50:28.75\00:50:31.09 And then you're dead tired, you say, 00:50:31.45\00:50:32.85 "Oh, I'm going to go to bed." 00:50:32.88\00:50:34.01 So all of the family goes to bed. 00:50:34.04\00:50:36.04 And when you're in bed nice and snug under the covers, 00:50:36.07\00:50:41.85 all of a sudden you say, "I forgot to lock the door. 00:50:43.49\00:50:46.54 Wow. 00:50:48.53\00:50:49.70 I really hate to get out from under these covers, 00:50:50.89\00:50:53.07 it's so nice and cuddly warm. 00:50:53.10\00:50:55.12 I've lived in this house for 20 years 00:50:56.03\00:50:57.91 and the thief has never come." 00:50:57.94\00:50:59.57 So you stay in bed. 00:51:01.64\00:51:02.95 And lo and behold, who do you suppose comes that night? 00:51:03.61\00:51:07.16 The thief. 00:51:07.59\00:51:08.74 And he comes, and everybody in the house is oblivious 00:51:11.16\00:51:15.77 that the thief has come. 00:51:15.80\00:51:17.17 Because everybody is asleep. 00:51:18.35\00:51:20.42 They're not watching, they're sleeping. 00:51:20.45\00:51:23.23 And so the thief comes into the house. 00:51:23.88\00:51:26.10 And he steals your video camera. 00:51:26.92\00:51:28.85 He steals some money that he finds. 00:51:30.09\00:51:32.35 He steals the television set. Hallelujah. 00:51:33.67\00:51:36.42 Except for 3ABN, of course. 00:51:38.37\00:51:40.58 And he runs off with all this stuff. 00:51:43.36\00:51:45.16 The people of the house did not know that the thief came. 00:51:47.18\00:51:51.39 When do they find out that the thief paid his visit? 00:51:52.01\00:51:55.91 They find out only when they wake up in the morning. 00:51:56.41\00:51:59.07 But then it is too late. 00:51:59.10\00:52:00.88 That's why Jesus said that He's going to come as 00:52:02.36\00:52:04.61 a thief in the night. 00:52:04.64\00:52:06.14 Not that Jesus is a thief. 00:52:06.41\00:52:08.13 No, it's not the thief part that is emphasized. 00:52:08.33\00:52:11.49 It is the surprise point that is being emphasized. 00:52:11.52\00:52:15.73 Probation will close to the surprise of the world. 00:52:15.93\00:52:18.95 No need to be surprised. 00:52:18.98\00:52:20.75 But it will close. 00:52:21.36\00:52:22.48 It will take the world over like an overwhelming surprise, 00:52:22.51\00:52:27.17 according to the spirit of prophecy. 00:52:27.20\00:52:28.79 And most of the people in the world will be oblivious 00:52:30.18\00:52:32.88 that the door of probation closed. 00:52:33.28\00:52:35.08 In fact, Ellen White emphasizes that the majority in the 00:52:35.11\00:52:38.96 Seventh-day Adventist Church will be caught by surprise. 00:52:38.99\00:52:42.82 Because they're expecting the world to go on for a lot longer. 00:52:43.36\00:52:46.56 And Ellen White says that they expect to accumulate more stuff. 00:52:47.43\00:52:53.09 You know, the more stuff that we accumulate, 00:52:53.45\00:52:55.48 the more the Lord is going to have to burn. 00:52:55.62\00:52:58.16 It's a time for us to be investing in the cause. 00:53:00.85\00:53:03.80 Everything. Not only money. 00:53:04.48\00:53:06.30 Our time, our talents, our efforts. 00:53:07.04\00:53:09.64 Noah had a one-track mind; 00:53:10.15\00:53:12.29 preach and build. 00:53:13.24\00:53:15.37 And we should have a one-track mind; 00:53:16.13\00:53:18.18 preach and build. 00:53:18.21\00:53:19.87 Is that not true? 00:53:21.03\00:53:22.30 This world is not our home. 00:53:23.05\00:53:25.23 You know, we're only here for a while. 00:53:26.81\00:53:29.53 We only need that which we indispensably need to survive, 00:53:30.53\00:53:34.50 to get us here from point A to point B. 00:53:35.00\00:53:37.68 And so we should be living in expectancy. 00:53:37.71\00:53:41.54 We should long for the second coming of Christ. 00:53:42.40\00:53:44.70 You know, let's go to the last section here. 00:53:45.77\00:53:48.23 I already did a lot of the parallels in the next section 00:53:48.26\00:53:52.13 which says, "End Time Fulfillment of the Noah Story." 00:53:52.16\00:53:55.12 Let's just go to the bottom of page six. 00:53:55.15\00:53:58.86 Living In Expectancy. 00:53:59.35\00:54:01.28 After comparing the flood with His coming, 00:54:02.13\00:54:04.48 Jesus gave some very practical counsels about how we should 00:54:05.03\00:54:09.01 live while we wait. 00:54:09.04\00:54:10.53 What is the first counsel? 00:54:11.78\00:54:13.24 "Watch therefore..." 00:54:14.11\00:54:16.54 Does that mean watching the signs? 00:54:16.75\00:54:18.72 Does that mean watching what's happening in the world? 00:54:18.98\00:54:21.06 Being aware? Yes. 00:54:21.29\00:54:22.43 "Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour 00:54:22.46\00:54:27.46 in which the Son of Man is coming." 00:54:27.49\00:54:29.25 And that's not talking about the second coming. 00:54:29.50\00:54:30.96 It's talking about the close of probation. 00:54:30.99\00:54:33.05 "Take heed, watch and pray; 00:54:34.50\00:54:38.63 for you do not know when the time is." 00:54:39.28\00:54:41.41 So watch and pray. 00:54:41.81\00:54:44.72 "Therefore, you also be ready; 00:54:45.41\00:54:49.44 for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect." 00:54:50.20\00:54:54.12 So we should be expecting Him. 00:54:55.30\00:54:57.49 We are to wisely... 00:54:59.49\00:55:01.13 What's the word there? 00:55:02.46\00:55:03.91 ...invest... 00:55:05.09\00:55:06.77 We are to wisely invest that which belongs to the Master. 00:55:07.37\00:55:12.68 And one way you can invest is by contributing 00:55:13.22\00:55:15.53 to Secrets Unsealed. 00:55:15.56\00:55:17.28 I had to get that in. 00:55:18.88\00:55:20.19 And I'm serious. 00:55:21.89\00:55:24.02 You know, you kind of snickered at that. 00:55:24.05\00:55:25.90 But our passion at Secrets Unsealed is to share 00:55:26.70\00:55:30.18 the special message for this time. 00:55:30.29\00:55:32.19 That's the passion of our ministry. 00:55:32.22\00:55:34.05 Our ministry is not about money, it's not about popularity, 00:55:34.37\00:55:37.40 it's not about having a nice building. 00:55:37.43\00:55:39.61 This building exists only for the glory of God; 00:55:39.71\00:55:42.38 to prepare material so that people know what the 00:55:42.41\00:55:44.63 real issues are. 00:55:44.66\00:55:46.01 And we are careful with people's money. 00:55:47.10\00:55:49.26 We are audited by a CPA. 00:55:50.26\00:55:53.02 The money that is donated to our ministry, 00:55:54.55\00:55:56.52 we use strictly for what it is donated for. 00:55:56.55\00:56:00.37 Our accounts are open. 00:56:02.10\00:56:03.55 So we need to invest in God's cause. 00:56:04.79\00:56:07.24 I'm not saying don't pay tithes and offerings. 00:56:07.27\00:56:09.30 You need to do that at your church. 00:56:09.33\00:56:11.56 We need to support the work. 00:56:12.09\00:56:13.69 But you know, we have a lot of extra that we can invest 00:56:14.48\00:56:17.51 in other causes. 00:56:17.54\00:56:18.83 Our offerings. 00:56:20.11\00:56:21.39 The next point, we should do... What? 00:56:22.68\00:56:26.83 Well that word, "do," should not be there. 00:56:27.56\00:56:30.10 We should occupy until He comes. 00:56:30.13\00:56:32.70 In other words, keep what? 00:56:32.73\00:56:34.30 Keep busy. 00:56:34.91\00:56:36.09 Don't just sit around. 00:56:36.12\00:56:37.69 Finally, Jesus' parable in Matthew 22:1-14 is apropos. 00:56:38.59\00:56:44.13 The man without a wedding garment did not 00:56:45.08\00:56:47.03 sneak into heaven. 00:56:47.06\00:56:48.49 The examination of the garments represents the judgment 00:56:49.47\00:56:52.62 which now transpires in heaven. 00:56:52.81\00:56:55.35 The separation of the righteous and the wicked 00:56:55.87\00:56:58.41 takes place before Jesus comes. 00:56:58.61\00:57:02.63 Let's make sure, folks, that we are covered 00:57:02.98\00:57:05.54 with the garment of Christ's righteousness. 00:57:05.57\00:57:09.13 Not only His robe of imputed righteousness, 00:57:09.91\00:57:14.52 but His robe of imparted righteousness. 00:57:14.86\00:57:17.84 Not only being reckoned righteous, 00:57:18.37\00:57:21.44 but also actually being righteous, 00:57:21.47\00:57:24.62 through the grace and through the power 00:57:24.65\00:57:26.63 that God gives us in our daily lives. 00:57:26.84\00:57:29.37 What is going to convince the world that Jesus is real 00:57:29.63\00:57:33.53 is not that we say, "Oh, I've been justified by faith," 00:57:33.63\00:57:36.90 and we live like the devil. 00:57:36.93\00:57:38.25 No, it's our life that will show whether we are really committed 00:57:38.28\00:57:42.20 to Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord. 00:57:42.23\00:57:45.11
