Welcome, ASI. 00:00:20.95\00:00:22.68 Thank you for the opportunity to be here. 00:00:22.72\00:00:25.39 I remember my first ASI, 00:00:25.42\00:00:26.82 anybody this is their first ASI? 00:00:26.86\00:00:29.12 Yeah. 00:00:29.16\00:00:30.49 Our first ASI was 2010 in Cincinnati, Ohio 00:00:30.53\00:00:33.46 not too far from here 00:00:33.50\00:00:35.36 and it was what inspired my wife and I 00:00:35.40\00:00:39.63 to be more all in. 00:00:39.67\00:00:43.17 And when you're all in for Christ, 00:00:43.20\00:00:44.87 then he can use you, have you noticed that? 00:00:44.91\00:00:48.14 And we're so thankful to ASI for giving us that inspiration, 00:00:48.18\00:00:51.01 that's one of the reasons 00:00:51.05\00:00:52.38 why we are at Holbrook Indian School. 00:00:52.41\00:00:55.18 One of the stories that I can remember 00:00:55.22\00:00:56.75 from that first 2010 ASI 00:00:56.79\00:00:59.65 that we went to was I learned about 00:00:59.69\00:01:01.42 the Davis Indians. 00:01:01.46\00:01:02.79 Anybody heard about the Davis Indians before? 00:01:02.82\00:01:05.03 I was so fascinated by that story 00:01:05.06\00:01:07.60 and that really helped me to understand 00:01:07.63\00:01:10.17 that when we're all in that God will use you 00:01:10.20\00:01:12.77 in ministry for him. 00:01:12.80\00:01:14.50 And we wanna thank each of you for being here, 00:01:14.54\00:01:17.14 each of you for supporting ASI 00:01:17.17\00:01:19.87 whether it's with your time 00:01:19.91\00:01:21.64 or whether it's with your energy 00:01:21.68\00:01:23.14 or whether it's with your resources. 00:01:23.18\00:01:25.61 And my wife and I work 00:01:25.65\00:01:27.12 at Holbrook Indian School in Holbrook, 00:01:27.15\00:01:28.85 Arizona and we minister to the native youth there, 00:01:28.88\00:01:32.89 and it's an awesome opportunity 00:01:32.92\00:01:35.42 to share the love of Jesus with people 00:01:35.46\00:01:37.96 who have never heard about Jesus before. 00:01:37.99\00:01:42.70 And we ask you to pray for us and the students 00:01:42.73\00:01:45.33 because we see the great controversy 00:01:45.37\00:01:47.84 every day right in front of us. 00:01:47.87\00:01:50.81 So Dianne is gonna have a prayer for us 00:01:50.84\00:01:52.34 as we start this morning, 00:01:52.37\00:01:54.28 and we pray that you 00:01:54.31\00:01:55.64 would have an awesome weekend here at ASI. 00:01:55.68\00:01:59.18 So bow your heads with me while I pray. 00:01:59.21\00:02:02.55 Father God, we are so grateful 00:02:02.58\00:02:04.79 for this beautiful day that you've given us 00:02:04.82\00:02:07.29 and especially thank you for everyone 00:02:07.32\00:02:09.72 who has had a part 00:02:09.76\00:02:11.09 in putting together this wonderful conference. 00:02:11.13\00:02:14.63 It is a blessing Lord to come together 00:02:14.66\00:02:17.13 to learn about the ministries, but we ask, 00:02:17.17\00:02:20.34 Father, that You be glorified, not us. 00:02:20.37\00:02:23.61 We ask that Your name be praised and, Lord, 00:02:23.64\00:02:27.31 may we always remember that Jesus loves us 00:02:27.34\00:02:30.41 and may we share that with others. 00:02:30.45\00:02:32.11 And we pray this in Jesus' name. 00:02:32.15\00:02:33.82 Amen. Amen. 00:02:33.85\00:02:35.18 Wow. 00:05:30.06\00:05:32.66 That was really something very interesting. 00:05:32.69\00:05:35.66 So this is Scotty Mayer. 00:05:35.70\00:05:37.73 He's the president, speaker/director, 00:05:37.77\00:05:39.87 sorry for a Little Light Studios, 00:05:39.90\00:05:42.74 and you are responsible in part for all of what we just saw. 00:05:42.77\00:05:46.64 Can you explain to us? 00:05:46.68\00:05:48.01 Is this a movie that's coming out? 00:05:48.04\00:05:49.44 You know, I actually wish it was a movie, 00:05:49.48\00:05:52.31 but we actually have started a whole new venture 00:05:52.35\00:05:54.98 creating Christian Stock Media. 00:05:55.02\00:05:57.92 And what they are is little video clips 00:05:57.95\00:06:00.79 that are designed for illustration purposes. 00:06:00.82\00:06:03.56 So like if you're gonna preach a sermon 00:06:03.59\00:06:05.76 or if you're gonna make a video and talk about Daniel. 00:06:05.79\00:06:09.26 We went over there and we shot all the parts and pieces 00:06:09.30\00:06:12.53 and we brought them back 00:06:12.57\00:06:13.90 so that we can make them available for people 00:06:13.94\00:06:16.20 and give you a visual of the whole Book of Daniel. 00:06:16.24\00:06:19.67 So you actually went to the Middle East 00:06:19.71\00:06:21.41 to shoot this footage? 00:06:21.44\00:06:22.78 We went to Morocco 00:06:22.81\00:06:24.15 where they have a lot of those biblical sets 00:06:24.18\00:06:25.95 over there in Morocco. 00:06:25.98\00:06:27.32 And in fact, if you've ever seen any period pieces, 00:06:27.35\00:06:29.88 this is where they actually shoot them over there. 00:06:29.92\00:06:32.19 Everybody kinda looks biblical and Middle Eastern 00:06:32.22\00:06:34.62 so it was an awesome project. 00:06:34.66\00:06:37.09 We collaborated with about five different ministries. 00:06:37.13\00:06:40.80 So we got a chance to work with AR TV, 00:06:40.83\00:06:43.77 the Adventist Review, AR Media Labs, 00:06:43.80\00:06:46.03 The Incredible Journey out of Australia, 00:06:46.07\00:06:49.60 Daryl Gungadoo out of England. 00:06:49.64\00:06:52.37 So a lot of people 00:06:52.41\00:06:53.74 came together to make that happen. 00:06:53.78\00:06:55.64 So why is it that we need this aren't there stock... 00:06:55.68\00:06:58.51 Isn't the stock video available to us? 00:06:58.55\00:07:01.22 You know, if you want to illustrate the Bible, 00:07:01.25\00:07:04.12 actually if you look for footage 00:07:04.15\00:07:06.22 to be able to use in your documentaries 00:07:06.25\00:07:08.22 or your sermons, it just isn't available. 00:07:08.26\00:07:11.66 We don't have access to it. 00:07:11.69\00:07:13.40 And so being a part of the small media ministry, 00:07:13.43\00:07:16.20 we're always struggling to try 00:07:16.23\00:07:18.10 and visually illustrate the Bible. 00:07:18.13\00:07:20.77 So we said, you know what, we're gonna solve that. 00:07:20.80\00:07:22.74 We're gonna create a resource library 00:07:22.77\00:07:25.44 called video mission 00:07:25.47\00:07:26.81 and we're gonna make as many biblical illustrations 00:07:26.84\00:07:29.91 as we can and offer them to people 00:07:29.94\00:07:32.38 to use in their sermons or print. 00:07:32.41\00:07:35.52 We took a photographer over there with us. 00:07:35.55\00:07:37.72 He shot 5,000 photos in 5 days. 00:07:37.75\00:07:41.56 And some of these photos are just amazing. 00:07:41.59\00:07:44.33 They look like something out of a magazine. 00:07:44.36\00:07:46.70 So why is it necessary to have images 00:07:46.73\00:07:49.83 that look authentic and current? 00:07:49.86\00:07:52.80 Well, you know, the world responds to media 00:07:52.83\00:07:55.94 and unfortunately the world has been exposed 00:07:55.97\00:07:59.04 to hundreds of millions of dollars from Hollywood 00:07:59.07\00:08:02.24 and people are used to seeing a certain type of quality. 00:08:02.28\00:08:05.18 I work a lot with young people. 00:08:05.21\00:08:07.08 And so unfortunately sometimes 00:08:07.12\00:08:09.22 if we make them not as quality as we can, 00:08:09.25\00:08:13.09 the young people would just dismiss it. 00:08:13.12\00:08:14.62 So we want to really offer high quality images 00:08:14.66\00:08:18.46 to illustrate those biblical topics 00:08:18.49\00:08:20.20 because there's a lot of ministries 00:08:20.23\00:08:21.63 who have beautiful messages 00:08:21.66\00:08:23.43 and they just don't have endless budgets 00:08:23.47\00:08:25.77 to be able to put these things in their projects. 00:08:25.80\00:08:29.50 So speaking of budgets, 00:08:29.54\00:08:30.87 this year's project will provide 00:08:30.91\00:08:32.61 what kind of support for this to continue? 00:08:32.64\00:08:35.21 So we wanna keep going over to Morocco, 00:08:35.24\00:08:37.15 we wanna keep shooting over there on their sets, 00:08:37.18\00:08:39.71 and so we're gonna go over there and the next project 00:08:39.75\00:08:41.75 we're gonna do is the Prophets, the major and minor prophets. 00:08:41.78\00:08:46.29 So we're gonna give video clips, 00:08:46.32\00:08:48.26 we're gonna get pictures, 00:08:48.29\00:08:49.96 and we're gonna bring them back and they'll be offered 00:08:49.99\00:08:51.86 and available on videomission.com. 00:08:51.89\00:08:54.36 What kind of response 00:08:54.40\00:08:55.73 have you had to the availability 00:08:55.76\00:08:57.97 of these pieces so far? 00:08:58.00\00:08:59.93 You know, it's really neat. 00:08:59.97\00:09:01.30 Our church is a worldwide church, 00:09:01.34\00:09:03.20 so we've had ministries from Brazil, from Germany 00:09:03.24\00:09:07.14 and they have purchased these clips from us 00:09:07.18\00:09:10.45 and been able to put them in their projects 00:09:10.48\00:09:12.11 like the ministry from Germany 00:09:12.15\00:09:15.62 was doing a whole project on Nehemiah. 00:09:15.65\00:09:18.09 Where they're gonna get footage of Nehemiah? 00:09:18.12\00:09:20.42 So they were able to go onto our website, 00:09:20.46\00:09:22.56 find a bunch of images of kings, 00:09:22.59\00:09:24.89 they put together a really impactful trailer, 00:09:24.93\00:09:27.50 and a lot of people showed up to their weekend because of it. 00:09:27.53\00:09:32.73 Speaking of cost, 00:09:32.77\00:09:35.14 so am I gonna break my budget 00:09:35.17\00:09:37.41 trying to get access to this stock video? 00:09:37.44\00:09:39.47 Absolutely not. 00:09:39.51\00:09:40.84 We want to design these things 00:09:40.88\00:09:42.64 to be as cost effective as possible, 00:09:42.68\00:09:45.61 something that everyone can afford 00:09:45.65\00:09:47.92 and ultimately we wanna get to the goal, 00:09:47.95\00:09:50.75 there's a lot of websites these days 00:09:50.79\00:09:52.55 that have a real fractional costs like 00:09:52.59\00:09:54.39 $30 a month and you can use whatever's on the site. 00:09:54.42\00:09:57.23 So we want to get to that level 00:09:57.26\00:09:59.16 where we can literally illustrate the whole Bible 00:09:59.19\00:10:01.56 and we can say for a small cost, 00:10:01.60\00:10:03.57 you can use whatever we've created on that site 00:10:03.60\00:10:06.20 to tell the gospel story. 00:10:06.23\00:10:08.04 Well, this sounds really very exciting 00:10:08.07\00:10:10.14 because I remember seeing these things, something, 00:10:10.17\00:10:13.38 oh, that looks like really really old, 00:10:13.41\00:10:16.54 so it would be nice to have something 00:10:16.58\00:10:17.98 that's really current and authentic. 00:10:18.01\00:10:19.61 That's right. Wow. 00:10:19.65\00:10:20.98 What else would you like to tell us about 00:10:21.02\00:10:22.82 what needs to happen? 00:10:22.85\00:10:24.19 So there's a lot of schools that we have. 00:10:24.22\00:10:25.92 A lot of our universities are actually teaching film. 00:10:25.95\00:10:28.56 I actually went to one of our Adventist schools 00:10:28.59\00:10:30.46 and was taught film way back when, 00:10:30.49\00:10:32.76 and unfortunately 00:10:32.79\00:10:34.70 not a lot of jobs are available in ministry 00:10:34.73\00:10:38.57 when those kids come out of school. 00:10:38.60\00:10:41.60 And they have, you know, 00:10:41.64\00:10:42.97 a desire to use their gifts but, 00:10:43.00\00:10:44.91 you know, a lot of them end up 00:10:44.94\00:10:46.27 going to the systems of the world 00:10:46.31\00:10:47.81 and helping them create media. 00:10:47.84\00:10:50.35 And it's like we need help in our church 00:10:50.38\00:10:52.61 and we want to keep the most talented kids 00:10:52.65\00:10:54.88 and anybody that wants to use creativity to sell, 00:10:54.92\00:10:57.82 so this is also something that we've opened up 00:10:57.85\00:11:01.29 this platform called videomission.com 00:11:01.32\00:11:04.03 where we want creators 00:11:04.06\00:11:06.03 who are already traveling around 00:11:06.06\00:11:07.66 and creating media productions 00:11:07.70\00:11:09.56 to have the ability to sell their work 00:11:09.60\00:11:11.77 on this particular platforms. 00:11:11.80\00:11:13.34 So you know in all of these productions, 00:11:13.37\00:11:15.74 we need clips of people praying, 00:11:15.77\00:11:17.64 people studying the Bible, 00:11:17.67\00:11:19.47 and if you've got a talent 00:11:19.51\00:11:20.84 with a video camera and a computer at home, 00:11:20.88\00:11:23.11 we, a lot of these kids can create resources 00:11:23.14\00:11:25.75 that the church can use 00:11:25.78\00:11:27.32 and they can do it from their home. 00:11:27.35\00:11:30.12 Oaky, so they don't have to necessarily be employed 00:11:30.15\00:11:32.29 by a ministry or they can be, 00:11:32.32\00:11:34.42 but they can do these things at home. 00:11:34.46\00:11:35.92 That's right. 00:11:35.96\00:11:37.29 And this is one of the things 00:11:37.33\00:11:38.66 that gets our church working together. 00:11:38.69\00:11:40.90 We need a cohesive working with the creatives 00:11:40.93\00:11:44.93 as well as the preachers and pastors 00:11:44.97\00:11:47.47 and video teams that are making these things. 00:11:47.50\00:11:50.37 We need to connect all the dots 00:11:50.41\00:11:51.74 so that we're all working together 00:11:51.77\00:11:53.74 for the seamless goal of winning souls. 00:11:53.78\00:11:56.48 Scotty, thank you so much for the vision 00:11:56.51\00:11:59.45 that you have cast 00:11:59.48\00:12:00.82 so that we can pull these things together 00:12:00.85\00:12:02.18 and have them available for our use. 00:12:02.22\00:12:03.55 Praise God. Thank you. 00:12:03.59\00:12:04.92 Videomission.com, if you need clips and illustrations, 00:12:04.95\00:12:07.56 pictures, any of those kind of things, 00:12:07.59\00:12:09.56 look up videomission.com. 00:12:09.59\00:12:11.79 Thank you very much, Scotty. You're welcome. 00:12:11.83\00:12:14.43 So coming to the podium now is Jeremiah Weeks. 00:12:14.46\00:12:20.54 Jeremiah, so good to have you here. 00:12:20.57\00:12:23.54 He is the director for ShareHim. 00:12:23.57\00:12:26.27 Now, Jeremiah, I remember fondly, 00:12:26.31\00:12:29.48 I was one of the privilege 00:12:29.51\00:12:30.95 that was able to actually go and preach 00:12:30.98\00:12:33.35 for a ShareHim trip. 00:12:33.38\00:12:36.22 Awesome. 00:12:36.25\00:12:37.59 You know, evangelism, 00:12:37.62\00:12:38.95 so tell us is it still that kind of thing 00:12:38.99\00:12:41.12 that's available and going on 00:12:41.16\00:12:42.49 or what kind of things may have changed with ShareHim? 00:12:42.52\00:12:44.53 Absolutely, and we're focusing right now on young adults. 00:12:44.56\00:12:48.20 Getting young adults involved in studying, 00:12:48.23\00:12:52.00 sharing the message, 00:12:52.03\00:12:54.14 calling people to make decision and a lot of them are making 00:12:54.17\00:12:56.50 decisions themselves. 00:12:56.54\00:12:58.24 So when you say you are focusing on young adults, 00:12:58.27\00:13:00.28 were they a part of the target so to speak in their past. 00:13:00.31\00:13:04.28 How was that a little bit different 00:13:04.31\00:13:05.65 than what has occurred previously? 00:13:05.68\00:13:07.55 Now we are focusing actually exclusively 00:13:07.58\00:13:10.09 on young adults age 18-35. 00:13:10.12\00:13:12.95 And the reason for that is throughout history, 00:13:12.99\00:13:17.63 young adults changed the world. 00:13:17.66\00:13:19.79 Young adults have passion, they have creative energy, 00:13:19.83\00:13:23.37 they have huge potential, 00:13:23.40\00:13:26.33 and sometimes they are the missing soldiers 00:13:26.37\00:13:29.24 in our church. 00:13:29.27\00:13:31.01 As we go look back through history, 00:13:31.04\00:13:32.61 it is young adults who changed the world. 00:13:32.64\00:13:34.84 We see it in the Christian church, 00:13:34.88\00:13:36.71 we think of Martin Luther. 00:13:36.75\00:13:39.01 Those 95 thesis 00:13:39.05\00:13:41.15 pounded on the Wittenberg Castle church door. 00:13:41.18\00:13:43.85 He was 33 when he did that. 00:13:43.89\00:13:47.46 We think of others Tyndale, 00:13:47.49\00:13:49.29 translating the New Testament into English. 00:13:49.32\00:13:51.83 He was 31, just a few years later 00:13:51.86\00:13:54.96 when that happened. 00:13:55.00\00:13:57.03 And it's throughout history, also in society. 00:13:57.07\00:14:00.04 We think of technology the companies 00:14:00.07\00:14:02.34 that seem to control our world. 00:14:02.37\00:14:05.07 We think of Bill Gates, who co-founded Microsoft, 00:14:05.11\00:14:08.04 he was 19, 00:14:08.08\00:14:09.84 Sergey Brin 25 years old 00:14:09.88\00:14:11.98 when he was cofounding Google. 00:14:12.01\00:14:14.38 And we see it 00:14:14.42\00:14:15.75 in the Adventist Church of course too. 00:14:15.78\00:14:17.92 Ellen White, 00:14:17.95\00:14:19.29 20 years old when she had that vision 00:14:19.32\00:14:21.69 about that message to go around the world, 00:14:21.72\00:14:23.83 James, a year later, 27, when they began publishing. 00:14:23.86\00:14:29.33 Now, he wasn't quite a young adult. 00:14:29.36\00:14:31.67 We think of up to the age 35 00:14:31.70\00:14:33.94 but Jay and Andrews was at rippled age of 37 00:14:33.97\00:14:37.81 when he was elected GC President. 00:14:37.84\00:14:41.04 About an year and half later, 00:14:41.08\00:14:42.41 Butler was elected GC President at the same age. 00:14:42.44\00:14:46.31 Young adults have passion, they've energy, 00:14:46.35\00:14:49.12 they've creative energy, 00:14:49.15\00:14:50.49 they have huge potential 00:14:50.52\00:14:53.02 and we are eager to see them be an active part of owning 00:14:53.05\00:14:58.53 the work of their church 00:14:58.56\00:15:00.30 and seeing that mission as their mission. 00:15:00.33\00:15:03.47 I really appreciate hearing that 00:15:03.50\00:15:04.87 and I think that ASI 00:15:04.90\00:15:06.50 has captured a little bit of that vision, 00:15:06.53\00:15:08.40 and it's evident that you're a recipient 00:15:08.44\00:15:11.11 of this year's offering as well as the overflow, 00:15:11.14\00:15:13.74 part of the overflow that we may receive. 00:15:13.78\00:15:16.24 So tell me what kind of impact it's made already 00:15:16.28\00:15:19.85 on young adults that have participated? 00:15:19.88\00:15:22.12 Well, we certainly been blessed in the past 00:15:22.15\00:15:24.52 by the support from you, from ASI 00:15:24.55\00:15:27.62 and by several of you also as individuals 00:15:27.66\00:15:29.66 helping specific young adults. 00:15:29.69\00:15:31.83 We have a number of you 00:15:31.86\00:15:33.19 who are young evangelist sponsors 00:15:33.23\00:15:35.00 helping each year with $600 or $50 a month 00:15:35.03\00:15:37.77 that helps a specific young adult 00:15:37.80\00:15:39.73 have this experience. 00:15:39.77\00:15:41.74 As these young adults study the message, 00:15:41.77\00:15:45.14 call people to make a decision. 00:15:45.17\00:15:48.01 You know, really, it's changing them also. 00:15:48.04\00:15:52.25 You can't study and share the Word 00:15:52.28\00:15:54.28 without it changing you and the Lord has blessed. 00:15:54.32\00:15:57.19 We just praise Him for the way 00:15:57.22\00:15:59.65 that we've seen thousands of young people have... 00:15:59.69\00:16:04.69 And I know it sounds it's an overused phrase, 00:16:04.73\00:16:07.30 but a life changing experience, 00:16:07.33\00:16:09.73 a direction changing experience. 00:16:09.76\00:16:12.93 Just recently, a young lady wrote us, 00:16:12.97\00:16:15.97 her name is Adriana. 00:16:16.00\00:16:17.94 In 2015, 00:16:17.97\00:16:19.51 she was part of a group of 234 young adults, 00:16:19.54\00:16:22.58 mostly from Europe, 00:16:22.61\00:16:23.95 but also from Australia, New Zealand 00:16:23.98\00:16:26.28 and some other areas who were preaching 00:16:26.31\00:16:28.78 in at ShareHim evangelistic trip 00:16:28.82\00:16:31.85 that ASI help support. 00:16:31.89\00:16:33.92 Adriana wrote about the impact this have had on her 00:16:33.96\00:16:38.03 and the vision that it helped her to grow. 00:16:38.06\00:16:41.56 Adriana's now the Associate Youth Director 00:16:41.60\00:16:44.50 in the Welsh Mission in the UK. 00:16:44.53\00:16:48.30 Now Wales is an area 00:16:48.34\00:16:49.80 that has had challenges along the way 00:16:49.84\00:16:52.64 and in the Adventist Church as well. 00:16:52.67\00:16:54.78 But Adriana is fired up. 00:16:54.81\00:16:57.15 She is, by God's grace she is ready to roll, 00:16:57.18\00:17:00.38 ready to share the hope she has 00:17:00.42\00:17:02.12 with other Adventist young people 00:17:02.15\00:17:04.42 and others in Wales who need to hear 00:17:04.45\00:17:06.69 and Adriana wrote saying, 00:17:06.72\00:17:08.89 "Look, we've gotta get young adults here involved. 00:17:08.92\00:17:12.56 What can we do next year? 00:23:40.05\00:23:41.75 Okay, so every year we just try to get together 00:23:41.78\00:23:43.99 with our very good friends and these guys, 00:23:44.02\00:23:46.19 the dear sis and others 00:23:46.22\00:23:47.56 who have been on trips, every other year 00:23:47.59\00:23:49.32 we typically go on a sailing trip 00:23:49.36\00:23:50.69 and we decided to go to Belize this time. 00:23:50.73\00:23:52.86 We're gonna be five days on a boat 00:23:52.89\00:23:54.46 and then five days around the country. 00:23:54.50\00:23:56.30 I happened to have a childhood friend Rich Sutton 00:23:56.33\00:23:58.77 who lives down there 00:23:58.80\00:24:00.14 and so we got in contact with him 00:24:00.17\00:24:01.67 and decided that we would get together for church 00:24:01.70\00:24:03.61 and it turned out that he'd asked 00:24:03.64\00:24:04.97 if we do the church service 00:24:05.01\00:24:06.34 and in common it turns out that they have a mission 00:24:06.37\00:24:09.61 to orphan children at an orphanage, 00:24:09.64\00:24:12.01 and that's a very small church with mainly 00:24:12.05\00:24:13.98 just orphan children that we were going to. 00:24:14.02\00:24:16.69 And, Lindy, what happened on Sabbath morning? 00:24:16.72\00:24:19.62 Well, as we drove up, we were on the, in our vehicle, 00:24:19.65\00:24:25.43 we looked outside 00:24:25.46\00:24:27.23 and we were convinced that this was the wrong place 00:24:27.26\00:24:30.30 and we kept saying are we sure this is the church? 00:24:30.33\00:24:32.90 The bus here you see 00:24:32.93\00:24:34.27 is where the children have their Sabbath school 00:24:34.30\00:24:37.17 and the outside of the church, 00:24:37.21\00:24:40.91 you can see was in quite some disarray. 00:24:40.94\00:24:45.15 The church is composed 00:24:45.18\00:24:46.72 of orphans predominantly. 00:24:46.75\00:24:52.65 And, Rusty, 00:24:52.69\00:24:54.12 we had a very interesting experience in church 00:24:54.16\00:24:56.89 and we did the church service, my husband preached, 00:24:56.93\00:24:59.83 we did special music believe it or not, we all did. 00:24:59.86\00:25:02.66 And, Rust, you had a great experience. 00:25:02.70\00:25:04.30 Tell them about your experience? 00:25:04.33\00:25:06.00 So we just arrived, we had no bulletins, 00:25:06.03\00:25:09.04 the orphans had no clue 00:25:09.07\00:25:10.41 what the scripture reading was going to be. 00:25:10.44\00:25:13.27 So I gave the scripture, had multiple texts in it, 00:25:13.31\00:25:16.44 and as soon as I gave the scripture, 00:25:16.48\00:25:17.98 instantly the orphans started talking 00:25:18.01\00:25:20.18 and then the room is filled with noise 00:25:20.22\00:25:21.75 and I thought, "Oh, no, what have I done!" 00:25:21.78\00:25:23.12 So I keep on trying to find the Bible, 00:25:23.15\00:25:25.05 the text in my app 00:25:25.09\00:25:27.19 and then I realized these orphans 00:25:27.22\00:25:29.56 were quoting word for word 00:25:29.59\00:25:32.59 this scripture multiple texts all from the heart. 00:25:32.63\00:25:35.93 It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. 00:25:35.96\00:25:37.70 Amen. 00:25:37.73\00:25:39.07 And, Brian, what effect did that have on us? 00:25:39.10\00:25:40.47 What did we do after that? 00:25:40.50\00:25:42.00 Well, honestly, 00:25:42.04\00:25:43.37 we thought we are just gonna go to church 00:25:43.41\00:25:45.17 and literally when we pulled up, 00:25:45.21\00:25:46.61 these guys didn't want to get out of the car, 00:25:46.64\00:25:48.34 I didn't wanna get out of the car. 00:25:48.38\00:25:49.71 We're like, we are at the wrong church 00:25:49.74\00:25:51.21 but we were doing the service so we had to. 00:25:51.25\00:25:53.65 But just to see the engagement of these young people, 00:25:53.68\00:25:56.72 children, and teenagers just excited about the message 00:25:56.75\00:25:59.79 and knowing the text just melted our hearts. 00:25:59.82\00:26:02.19 And so, 00:26:02.22\00:26:03.56 we couldn't just leave them in that condition. 00:26:03.59\00:26:05.43 We came home afterwards and thought, 00:26:05.46\00:26:07.73 "What could we do to leave them something more 00:26:07.76\00:26:10.60 than just doing a church service one time." 00:26:10.63\00:26:12.40 And so we talked amongst ourselves 00:26:12.43\00:26:13.84 about how much money would it take, talked to Rich, 00:26:13.87\00:26:16.30 could you guys start a construction project 00:26:16.34\00:26:18.17 and if we could fund it. 00:26:18.21\00:26:19.64 And so, you'll see a few slides just a construction, 00:26:19.67\00:26:23.11 we gathered together a few thousand dollars, 00:26:23.14\00:26:25.61 we coordinated that 00:26:25.65\00:26:26.98 with the missionaries down there. 00:26:27.02\00:26:28.98 They, the church members volunteered their time, 00:26:29.02\00:26:31.52 literally took this church apart. 00:26:31.55\00:26:33.76 You can see the roof was taken off. 00:26:33.79\00:26:35.42 New rafters were put on. 00:26:35.46\00:26:36.96 New windows were framed. 00:26:36.99\00:26:38.43 New concrete was put around at it. 00:26:38.46\00:26:40.03 There was a pavilion put on the sides 00:26:40.06\00:26:41.63 so they could do their Sabbath school 00:26:41.66\00:26:43.00 on the side of the church, not on the bus. 00:26:43.03\00:26:45.77 And it just completely transformed the church 00:26:45.80\00:26:49.20 because we had the opportunity to be there and it really... 00:26:49.24\00:26:53.88 Was really neat to be able to leave something behind 00:26:53.91\00:26:56.78 for this forgotten group of people, 00:26:56.81\00:26:59.31 orphans with one or two families 00:26:59.35\00:27:01.28 that supports them. 00:27:01.32\00:27:02.95 But otherwise, it's a very neglected church, 00:27:02.98\00:27:05.29 no funds, no tithe days and so they get no resources 00:27:05.32\00:27:08.69 and that was neat to see the impact. 00:27:08.72\00:27:10.79 And if you can go, if we can go to the slide shown before 00:27:10.83\00:27:14.86 and after pictures, that'll be great. 00:27:14.90\00:27:18.17 Our slides are a little bit off and I apologize for that. 00:27:18.20\00:27:22.04 But if we can have us go to the before 00:27:22.07\00:27:23.61 and after pictures, that will be fantastic. 00:27:23.64\00:27:25.31 So that is what we saw when we pulled up. 00:27:25.34\00:27:27.98 This is what they've next picture 00:27:28.01\00:27:29.78 should be what they built. 00:27:29.81\00:27:31.15 This is the new inside. 00:27:31.18\00:27:32.71 Lights, new electrical work, a ceiling fan 00:27:32.75\00:27:36.58 and the final result looks like a transformed building. 00:27:36.62\00:27:40.16 It's just neat to see them have that. 00:27:40.19\00:27:42.92 Amen. 00:27:42.96\00:27:44.29 Praise God. 00:27:44.33\00:27:45.66 Praise the Lord indeed. 00:27:45.69\00:27:47.53 And, Bob, why don't you tell us what did that do for us? 00:27:47.56\00:27:51.73 What do we want people to take home from this? 00:27:51.77\00:27:55.17 So we have a new motto for our vacations 00:27:55.20\00:27:57.51 rather than just vacation, 00:27:57.54\00:27:58.91 our new motto was "Vacation Unusual." 00:27:58.94\00:28:01.74 So we are gonna go on vacation, 00:28:01.78\00:28:04.08 but we wanna make every opportunity 00:28:04.11\00:28:05.61 to go on a vacation to be doing something... 00:28:05.65\00:28:08.08 Yes, there's time to come apart and rest a while 00:28:08.12\00:28:10.09 but there's also opportunities all around 00:28:10.12\00:28:11.95 as to be blessing people, all we've been blessed with. 00:28:11.99\00:28:15.02 Statistics show that if you own two pairs of shoes, 00:28:15.06\00:28:19.03 you're in the top 50% of income earners in the world. 00:28:19.06\00:28:22.30 Two pairs of shoes! 00:28:22.33\00:28:23.67 I won't tell you how many pairs of shoes we own. 00:28:23.70\00:28:25.60 But we are so blessed here in America 00:28:25.63\00:28:27.04 so when we go on vacation, we wanna make our vacations 00:28:27.07\00:28:29.20 a members in action opportunity. 00:28:29.24\00:28:30.81 Amen. 00:28:30.84\00:28:32.17 So members in action isn't just what we do at work 00:28:32.21\00:28:33.91 or at the hospital or even in our neighborhood. 00:28:33.94\00:28:36.21 Members in action is a lifestyle, 00:28:36.24\00:28:37.88 it's not a decision, it's not an event. 00:28:37.91\00:28:39.91 So we discovered that when we are on vacation, 00:28:39.95\00:28:41.95 we want to be looking for opportunities 00:28:41.98\00:28:43.55 to be a blessing to those around us. 00:28:43.59\00:28:45.45 So we wanna encourage you, 00:28:45.49\00:28:46.82 if you have the opportunity wherever you are at, 00:28:46.86\00:28:48.72 whether it's on vacation, make it vacation unusual. 00:28:48.76\00:28:51.79 If you're at work, make it business unusual. 00:28:51.83\00:28:54.16 If you're in your neighborhood, make it neighborhood unusual. 00:28:54.20\00:28:56.43 Amen. 00:28:56.46\00:28:57.80 And just share the blessings that God has given 00:28:57.83\00:28:59.17 to each one of us with those around us, 00:28:59.20\00:29:00.54 and it's just a huge blessing for us 00:29:00.57\00:29:02.50 and a huge blessing to the orphans down there, 00:29:02.54\00:29:04.31 and a huge blessing to every one of us. 00:29:04.34\00:29:05.94 Amen. 00:29:30.17\00:29:35.57 You see, I had encouraged my husband 00:29:35.60\00:29:37.67 to go and have a physical 00:29:37.71\00:29:40.88 because it had been many, many years 00:29:40.91\00:29:42.54 since he'd had one. 00:29:42.58\00:29:44.21 We live in Rochester, Minnesota, 00:29:44.25\00:29:46.31 we're near the Mayo Clinic. 00:29:46.35\00:29:47.68 They have a wonderful executive plan 00:29:47.72\00:29:49.75 and so that's where he went. 00:29:49.78\00:29:52.09 So I said, "You need to go and have a physical, Denzel." 00:29:52.12\00:29:54.52 And I thought, 00:29:54.56\00:29:55.89 well, if I tell him he needs one, 00:29:55.92\00:29:57.49 I better go have one too. 00:29:57.53\00:30:00.10 So I did and I went and had mine 00:30:00.13\00:30:01.86 and I was feeling good. 00:30:01.90\00:30:03.23 In fact I had really puffy feathers 00:30:03.26\00:30:05.33 about my health. 00:30:05.37\00:30:06.70 I thought I was doing everything right. 00:30:06.74\00:30:08.07 Denzel says, 00:30:08.10\00:30:09.44 "Donny you preach this all the time. 00:30:09.47\00:30:11.14 You might as well believe in it too, right?" 00:30:11.17\00:30:15.28 Okay, well, I had my test and the doctor came in 00:30:15.31\00:30:20.12 that first day on January 2 and she says, 00:30:20.15\00:30:22.45 "Well, I'll see you for your x-ray view 00:30:22.48\00:30:24.85 on January 3rd, the next day." 00:30:24.89\00:30:27.69 The next day I went back in and like I said, 00:30:27.72\00:30:29.82 I didn't hear a word she said 00:30:29.86\00:30:31.19 because all I wanted to know was the bad news. 00:30:31.23\00:30:34.20 And this is what she told me. 00:30:34.23\00:30:35.63 She says,"Well, Donna, 00:30:35.66\00:30:37.00 there's some things that have changed 00:30:37.03\00:30:38.37 in the last few years." 00:30:38.40\00:30:39.73 It had been four years since I'd been there. 00:30:39.77\00:30:42.44 And I said, okay, I'm thinking to myself what changed. 00:30:42.47\00:30:45.07 She said, "Your numbers are going up." 00:30:45.11\00:30:46.81 And then she said, "In fact, 00:30:46.84\00:30:48.84 we have an appointment for you on Monday 00:30:48.88\00:30:52.41 and we are sending you to the heart clinic." 00:30:52.45\00:30:55.88 And I went, "Oh my goodness, what is going on here?" 00:30:55.92\00:30:59.35 I've been living this lifestyle, 00:30:59.39\00:31:01.09 this health message for many, many years. 00:31:01.12\00:31:03.12 I believe in it, I love our health message. 00:31:03.16\00:31:06.39 And all I could think was, 00:31:06.43\00:31:08.00 I don't know what am I going to do? 00:31:08.03\00:31:10.00 So I walked out to their desk and I said, 00:31:10.03\00:31:13.87 "Excuse me, I need to tell you 00:31:13.90\00:31:16.34 that I need to cancel my appointment." 00:31:16.37\00:31:18.51 And they said, "You can't." 00:31:18.54\00:31:19.87 I said, "Yes, I can." 00:31:19.91\00:31:21.48 I said, "But I'll make you a promise, 00:31:21.51\00:31:23.01 I'll be back in six weeks." 00:31:23.04\00:31:26.11 After I went out the Mayo Clinic, 00:31:26.15\00:31:27.78 I walked over to our corporate office. 00:31:27.82\00:31:30.29 I went in my husband's office, we shut the door, 00:31:30.32\00:31:32.85 I burst into tears and he said, "What's wrong?" 00:31:32.89\00:31:36.22 And I said, "Well, my health is not as good 00:31:36.26\00:31:38.53 as I thought it is." 00:31:38.56\00:31:39.96 I said, "We gotta do something about this." 00:31:40.00\00:31:41.70 And he says, "What do you wanna do?" 00:31:41.73\00:31:43.73 And I said, "I want to go to Weimar." 00:31:43.77\00:31:46.84 This is Thursday afternoon. 00:31:46.87\00:31:50.04 He said, "Well, let's get our assistant Barb." 00:31:50.07\00:31:52.57 So Barb comes to the rescue, she calls out to Weimar, 00:31:52.61\00:31:56.38 they answer the phone call. 00:31:56.41\00:31:57.95 They actually called her back in about 10 minutes 00:31:57.98\00:32:00.45 and they said, "Do you have a spot for Donna 00:32:00.48\00:32:02.55 to come and take your NEWSTART program?" 00:32:02.58\00:32:05.45 Well, it just so happened 00:32:05.49\00:32:07.29 that they were starting on Sunday. 00:32:07.32\00:32:10.19 This happened to me Thursday. 00:32:10.23\00:32:12.69 God knew what He was doing. 00:32:12.73\00:32:14.50 He knew I needed to go there. 00:32:14.53\00:32:16.80 So I was on an airplane on Sunday 00:32:16.83\00:32:19.60 and I was there. 00:32:19.63\00:32:21.74 I did the 18-day program. 00:32:21.77\00:32:24.07 What a blessing! 00:32:24.11\00:32:26.34 What a blessing to be a part of this NEWSTART program. 00:32:26.37\00:32:30.08 The physicians, the caretakers there, 00:32:30.11\00:32:32.91 the guests, it was a blessing, 00:32:32.95\00:32:35.72 not only did I get to see people 00:32:35.75\00:32:38.05 being physically helped and healed. 00:32:38.09\00:32:41.22 I saw them spiritually being helped. 00:32:41.26\00:32:43.73 You know, 00:32:43.76\00:32:45.09 it was the biggest blessing in my life, it really was. 00:32:45.13\00:32:48.80 It was a humbling experience for me 00:32:48.83\00:32:51.07 because like I said, I was a proud person 00:32:51.10\00:32:53.23 'cause I thought I was doing everything right. 00:32:53.27\00:32:56.84 But you know they helped me put a lot of the pieces together. 00:32:56.87\00:33:00.21 There were little parts that I wasn't doing right. 00:33:00.24\00:33:03.31 And God knew what He was doing. 00:33:03.35\00:33:05.11 He wanted me to be in the best health possible. 00:33:05.15\00:33:10.22 When I came back, after being at Weimar 00:33:10.25\00:33:13.42 and hearing all the testimonies at graduation, 00:33:13.46\00:33:17.09 I realized that God really wants us 00:33:17.13\00:33:19.53 to not only be physically healthy 00:33:19.56\00:33:21.60 but mentally, spiritually, emotionally healthy. 00:33:21.63\00:33:25.53 And I appreciated all these facets 00:33:25.57\00:33:27.97 that they helped me with there at Weimar. 00:33:28.00\00:33:31.34 When I came back, I went back to the Mayo Clinic, 00:33:31.37\00:33:33.98 I made a promise that I would return and I did. 00:33:34.01\00:33:37.78 When I went back, I remembered the day 00:33:37.81\00:33:39.85 that I was having my test done 00:33:39.88\00:33:42.75 and they stopped me and they said, 00:33:42.78\00:33:44.75 "You don't need to do anymore." 00:33:44.79\00:33:46.12 And I said, "Oh, is something wrong?" 00:33:46.15\00:33:48.76 Oh, no, they said, 00:33:48.79\00:33:50.13 we remember you from 10 years ago 00:33:50.16\00:33:51.86 and you're doing better than you did 10 years ago. 00:33:51.89\00:33:55.06 I said, "Well, that's great. Praise the Lord." 00:33:55.10\00:33:57.97 And they didn't say a whole lot 00:33:58.00\00:33:59.83 'cause you know they don't tell you very much 00:33:59.87\00:34:01.64 when you're having your test. 00:34:01.67\00:34:03.17 When the physician came in to see me she said," 00:34:03.20\00:34:06.01 Oh, Donna, we got a red flag on you." 00:34:06.04\00:34:07.94 When I said, "Red flag." She said, "Yeah." 00:34:07.98\00:34:10.51 And I said, "Is it because I lost 00:34:10.55\00:34:11.95 a little bit of weight?" 00:34:11.98\00:34:13.31 She said, "Well, that could be a part of it." 00:34:13.35\00:34:16.22 I said, "Well, thank you Jesus that I didn't." 00:34:16.25\00:34:18.19 She was looking at me and she said, 00:34:18.22\00:34:20.96 "What have you been doing?" 00:34:20.99\00:34:22.92 And I said, "I'll tell you what I've been doing. 00:34:22.96\00:34:24.53 I've been following God's plan. 00:34:24.56\00:34:27.10 I have been following His message." 00:34:27.13\00:34:30.30 And I said, "I have never felt better. 00:34:30.33\00:34:32.30 I have so much energy now, I'm just so grateful. 00:34:32.33\00:34:36.30 And I'm thankful that God allowed me 00:34:36.34\00:34:39.94 to have this opportunity." 00:34:39.97\00:34:42.28 And you know when she interviewed me, 00:34:42.31\00:34:46.15 she brought in a lot of people to interview me. 00:34:46.18\00:34:49.28 And they told me that if everybody did 00:34:49.32\00:34:51.85 what I was able to have the privilege to do 00:34:51.89\00:34:55.29 that they wouldn't have any other patients 00:34:55.32\00:34:57.23 other than ones that needed to have heart surgery. 00:34:57.26\00:35:00.86 And I said, "Well, thank you Jesus." 00:35:00.90\00:35:02.93 And she said, "You know, what have you been doing?" 00:35:02.96\00:35:05.73 When I told her about how I cleaned up my diet, 00:35:05.77\00:35:09.94 and how our exercise became important. 00:35:09.97\00:35:12.87 But the most important thing was prayer, 00:35:12.91\00:35:15.88 and that I was seeking God's help 00:35:15.91\00:35:19.68 in everything that I was doing, 00:35:19.71\00:35:21.95 and that I wanted to give Him all the glory. 00:35:21.98\00:35:24.75 And I was so thankful that we had a health facility 00:35:24.79\00:35:29.36 that's available to us that we can use. 00:35:29.39\00:35:32.39 I'm thankful for Weimar, 00:35:32.43\00:35:34.30 but let us never forget there isn't just Weimar, 00:35:34.33\00:35:36.97 there are many other of our health ministries. 00:35:37.00\00:35:41.40 You know, God has given this church a huge gift 00:35:41.44\00:35:46.37 and that is the gift of health. 00:35:46.41\00:35:48.38 But He's given us many people 00:35:48.41\00:35:50.51 that are willing to share their lives 00:35:50.55\00:35:52.78 and dedicate their lives and their whatever, 00:35:52.81\00:35:56.69 that they have been given to make for sure 00:35:56.72\00:35:59.55 that we can have better health. 00:35:59.59\00:36:01.56 And so I encourage you, that if you hear 00:36:01.59\00:36:04.39 that still small voice speaking to you 00:36:04.43\00:36:07.23 to seek better health, that you'll do that. 00:36:07.26\00:36:09.96 And again, I am so grateful that we have a God 00:36:10.00\00:36:13.90 that loves us so much and cares about our health. 00:36:13.94\00:36:20.34 I do what I do 00:36:20.38\00:36:21.71 because I believe that the gospel 00:36:21.74\00:36:23.28 is the most beautiful compelling thing there is 00:36:23.31\00:36:26.88 and at times I don't believe that we communicate it 00:36:26.92\00:36:29.92 as beautifully as we can. 00:36:29.95\00:36:31.72 So I design for ministries of Adventist Church 00:36:31.75\00:36:34.76 because the message is beautiful, 00:36:34.79\00:36:37.89 the audience doesn't always see it. 00:36:37.93\00:36:39.83 I think ASI is really great 00:36:39.86\00:36:41.36 because it provides an opportunity for me 00:36:41.40\00:36:44.27 to meet a bunch of really great people 00:36:44.30\00:36:46.30 who have been doing very inspiring work 00:36:46.33\00:36:48.20 in the church, 00:36:48.24\00:36:49.70 and as I want to work with Adventist ministries 00:36:49.74\00:36:52.14 and help them communicate what they're doing. 00:36:52.17\00:36:54.84 I love knowing what they are doing 00:36:54.88\00:36:56.51 and it inspires me to be a better Christian, 00:36:56.54\00:36:59.61 and I think that's something 00:36:59.65\00:37:01.05 that we can all see it's having really great value. 00:37:01.08\00:37:03.69 One of my favorite things to do is 00:37:09.92\00:37:11.56 while I'm traveling to keep my eyes 00:37:11.59\00:37:13.56 prayerfully watching for somebody 00:37:13.60\00:37:15.43 that God is trying to reach. 00:37:15.46\00:37:17.30 As I was coming back from overseas, 00:37:17.33\00:37:18.80 I was on the shuttle, 00:37:18.83\00:37:20.17 I headed towards Berrien Springs, Michigan. 00:37:20.20\00:37:22.17 When a young girl came on the bus 00:37:22.20\00:37:24.17 and began walking in my direction. 00:37:24.21\00:37:26.27 She was obviously from China 00:37:26.31\00:37:27.94 and most likely an international student. 00:37:27.98\00:37:30.15 I barely said hi and she immediately responded 00:37:30.18\00:37:33.08 and came close to me. 00:37:33.11\00:37:34.48 She wanted to talk and so we started talking 00:37:34.52\00:37:37.35 and we ended up talking the whole rest of the trip. 00:37:37.39\00:37:39.89 As I got off, I was able to get her contact 00:37:39.92\00:37:42.59 and my wife called her in just a short time. 00:37:42.62\00:37:45.23 We invited her to our house 00:37:45.26\00:37:47.16 and then we invited her to our Sabbath school class, 00:37:47.20\00:37:49.76 a group that was having a picnic, 00:37:49.80\00:37:51.60 and pretty soon she was connected. 00:37:51.63\00:37:53.77 Angela DeRose started studying the Bible with her. 00:37:53.80\00:37:56.87 And then she found a Christian boyfriend 00:37:56.91\00:37:59.67 moving from her atheist background 00:37:59.71\00:38:01.81 and pretty soon she was married 00:38:01.84\00:38:03.61 off to San Francisco, 00:38:03.65\00:38:05.35 and we were afraid we were going to lose her 00:38:05.38\00:38:07.45 from this closed relationship with Jesus 00:38:07.48\00:38:09.52 that she was developing. 00:38:09.55\00:38:11.29 But someone else got on the phone with her 00:38:11.32\00:38:12.99 and began to study the Bible through the phone, 00:38:13.02\00:38:15.76 and then another person picked her up. 00:38:15.79\00:38:17.79 They're in Hayward, California, 00:38:17.83\00:38:19.63 and I am happy to tell you 00:38:19.66\00:38:21.00 that she was just baptized recently. 00:38:21.03\00:38:24.20 Shen Shen is an example 00:38:24.23\00:38:26.30 of what God is doing so specially 00:38:26.33\00:38:28.94 by bringing people from around the world 00:38:28.97\00:38:31.71 to the United States, 00:38:31.74\00:38:33.07 they might be closer to somebody 00:38:33.11\00:38:34.61 who knows Jesus Christ. 00:38:34.64\00:38:36.44 At our website, reachtheworldnextdoor.com, 00:38:36.48\00:38:39.31 you can look at things like this 00:38:39.35\00:38:41.08 where you can find out 00:38:41.12\00:38:42.45 who is in the city that is near you. 00:38:42.48\00:38:45.19 For instance, Louisville, Kentucky. 00:38:45.22\00:38:48.12 As you look through that, 00:38:48.16\00:38:49.49 you begin to search for those that come from countries 00:38:49.52\00:38:52.49 that you cannot get into with the gospel 00:38:52.53\00:38:54.96 or that have a very small portion of Christians. 00:38:55.00\00:38:57.80 Here there's Nepal with over a thousand, 00:38:57.83\00:39:00.27 people from Bosnia 2500, 00:39:00.30\00:39:03.04 people from Vietnam, Morocco 00:39:03.07\00:39:05.67 and many, many places. 00:39:05.71\00:39:08.64 So beside of being fun 00:39:08.68\00:39:10.01 to meet people of other cultures, 00:39:10.05\00:39:11.95 the beauty is that for God this is strategic. 00:39:11.98\00:39:15.08 He is eager for Jesus to return, 00:39:15.12\00:39:16.99 we're eager for Jesus to return, 00:39:17.02\00:39:19.15 but we need to rise to the amazing challenge 00:39:19.19\00:39:21.79 that He has sent us through international students, 00:39:21.82\00:39:24.69 through refugees, through immigrants, 00:39:24.73\00:39:26.70 through tourists, through business travelers 00:39:26.73\00:39:29.33 and begin to reach out. 00:39:29.36\00:39:31.17 So besides watching and focusing strategically, 00:39:31.20\00:39:34.37 what else can we do? 00:39:34.40\00:39:35.94 But when we see a need, we can meet that need. 00:39:35.97\00:39:39.14 We can begin to watch and pray 00:39:39.17\00:39:41.78 and say, Lord, show me what I can do to help. 00:39:41.81\00:39:44.41 With an international student, 00:39:44.45\00:39:45.98 a lot of times it's just somebody 00:39:46.01\00:39:47.45 who can practice with them for an hour, 00:39:47.48\00:39:49.95 take them down to a shopping center 00:39:49.98\00:39:51.49 if they don't have a car, 00:39:51.52\00:39:52.89 or invite them for Thanksgiving dinner. 00:39:52.92\00:39:55.49 For someone who's a refugee, the needs are much greater. 00:39:55.52\00:39:58.63 For most refuges as they get here, 00:39:58.66\00:40:00.80 they have only about three months 00:40:00.83\00:40:02.36 to get a job and be on their feet. 00:40:02.40\00:40:04.83 And they may not even speak English. 00:40:04.87\00:40:07.24 So we can come alongside them, 00:40:07.27\00:40:08.64 we can be a friend, we can help them 00:40:08.67\00:40:11.07 maybe get furniture in their house 00:40:11.11\00:40:12.97 or learn how to use the dishwasher or many things 00:40:13.01\00:40:18.01 that they're not being used to using. 00:40:18.05\00:40:19.71 Help them work through the paper work 00:40:19.75\00:40:21.28 and just find a way to truly care 00:40:21.32\00:40:23.99 and love them and come close to them. 00:40:24.02\00:40:26.72 But then our heart begins to say, 00:40:26.76\00:40:28.22 how can I go beyond 00:40:28.26\00:40:29.59 just being a friend, just caring, 00:40:29.62\00:40:31.83 and there are ways 00:40:31.86\00:40:33.19 that we can connect spiritually. 00:40:33.23\00:40:35.03 They come from different backgrounds, 00:40:35.06\00:40:36.60 maybe Buddhists or Muslims or Hindu, 00:40:36.63\00:40:39.37 and so sometimes we feel like what can I possibly say? 00:40:39.40\00:40:42.90 I don't know what to say. 00:40:42.94\00:40:44.27 Maybe I should keep my mouth quiet, 00:40:44.31\00:40:45.74 so I don't make some bad mistake. 00:40:45.77\00:40:48.28 But as we focus on listening to them 00:40:48.31\00:40:50.95 and hearing from them, 00:40:50.98\00:40:52.35 we can hear that things that matter to them 00:40:52.38\00:40:54.52 maybe in their own religion most likely the values, 00:40:54.55\00:40:57.39 they're extremely important to them. 00:40:57.42\00:40:59.42 And we can focus on those very things, 00:40:59.45\00:41:01.76 not jumping to the differences that we may feel excited 00:41:01.79\00:41:05.59 and eager and earnest to share, 00:41:05.63\00:41:07.56 but starting first what is in common. 00:41:07.60\00:41:10.67 From those we can bridge to our differences 00:41:10.70\00:41:13.70 through telling stories. 00:41:13.74\00:41:15.54 We wanna feel comfortable as we're sharing, 00:41:15.57\00:41:17.31 and we want them to feel comfortable 00:41:17.34\00:41:19.27 and it is through our own testimonies. 00:41:19.31\00:41:21.48 Through the telling of a story that matches the need 00:41:21.51\00:41:23.75 that they are struggling with 00:41:23.78\00:41:25.31 that they can begin to hear 00:41:25.35\00:41:26.68 and to know there is a God who is alive. 00:41:26.72\00:41:29.82 There is someone who cares 00:41:29.85\00:41:31.19 about the problems they're going through. 00:41:31.22\00:41:33.05 And they can hear it through that kind of story and sharing. 00:41:33.09\00:41:36.96 So listen to the people, 00:41:36.99\00:41:38.59 find the need that you can meet, 00:41:38.63\00:41:40.30 bridge from similarities to differences through stories. 00:41:40.33\00:41:43.90 And then there's one little tool 00:41:43.93\00:41:46.50 that we have found very, very helpful. 00:41:46.53\00:41:48.84 It's called "My language my life." 00:41:48.87\00:41:50.84 It's a website that has over a 150 languages 00:41:50.87\00:41:54.94 of Seventh-day Adventist material, 00:41:54.98\00:41:57.05 Bible studies, videos, television, 00:41:57.08\00:41:59.58 in many, many languages 00:41:59.61\00:42:00.98 so that when you meet somebody 00:42:01.02\00:42:02.65 even if you just have a minute or two 00:42:02.68\00:42:04.52 in a grocery line, 00:42:04.55\00:42:05.92 you can get to know them and then ask the question, 00:42:05.95\00:42:08.56 "Do you speak another language besides English?" 00:42:08.59\00:42:11.16 When they say Tamil or Gujarati or Nepali, 00:42:11.19\00:42:15.56 you can share with them on this website 00:42:15.60\00:42:17.47 and look it up on their smartphone. 00:42:17.50\00:42:19.80 My wife was sitting in the park in there in Houston 00:42:19.83\00:42:22.44 where we have a ministry 00:42:22.47\00:42:23.81 of training young people for missions. 00:42:23.84\00:42:25.77 And as she looked up, 00:42:25.81\00:42:27.14 she saw a lady from Pakistan coming close and sat down. 00:42:27.18\00:42:30.38 At least she guessed she was back from Pakistan 00:42:30.41\00:42:32.98 because there's a lot of people there that speak Urdu. 00:42:33.01\00:42:35.75 So she tried to talk to her, 00:42:35.78\00:42:37.49 but the lady couldn't speak a word of English. 00:42:37.52\00:42:40.76 So Julie pulled out her cell phone, 00:42:40.79\00:42:43.29 found the place on the website 00:42:43.32\00:42:45.13 and began to play the Jesus video 00:42:45.16\00:42:47.53 in that lady's language. 00:42:47.56\00:42:49.23 She grabbed the phone out of Julie's hand, 00:42:49.26\00:42:51.40 held it to her ear 00:42:51.43\00:42:52.80 and just listened and listened for 45 minutes. 00:42:52.83\00:42:56.67 People who have come are often wondering 00:42:56.71\00:42:59.61 do we really want them here. 00:42:59.64\00:43:01.24 They hear the news, 00:43:01.28\00:43:02.61 they understand what's going on, 00:43:02.64\00:43:04.01 they wanna know if we really care. 00:43:04.05\00:43:06.15 And Jesus has asked us to care for the stranger 00:43:06.18\00:43:08.75 that is in our midst 00:43:08.78\00:43:10.12 to come close to them and love them. 00:43:10.15\00:43:11.92 And so He invites us to reach out 00:43:11.95\00:43:13.56 and just share His love. 00:43:13.59\00:43:15.36 The last thing that I wanna invite you 00:43:15.39\00:43:16.79 to think about is beyond these things 00:43:16.83\00:43:19.59 that you can do right where you are. 00:43:19.63\00:43:21.76 Some of you, God may be calling to come and join us 00:43:21.80\00:43:24.30 there in Houston, Texas, 00:43:24.33\00:43:25.97 one of the most diverse cities in the United States 00:43:26.00\00:43:28.90 where thousands of refugees 00:43:28.94\00:43:30.37 have come and are waiting. 00:43:30.41\00:43:31.84 We have over 38 unreached people groups 00:43:31.87\00:43:34.84 from places that just really need the gospel. 00:43:34.88\00:43:37.58 So maybe some of you tonight 00:43:37.61\00:43:39.31 can pick up, come join us 00:43:39.35\00:43:41.08 as we train for missions by doing missions 00:43:41.12\00:43:43.65 but wherever we are, let's pray, let's watch, 00:43:43.69\00:43:47.19 let's boldly share the love of Jesus 00:43:47.22\00:43:49.42 because He's brought the world next door 00:43:49.46\00:43:51.83 so that we can reach them and see Jesus come. 00:43:51.86\00:43:57.50 When I learned that Jesus was so in love 00:43:57.53\00:44:00.07 with everybody in the world 00:44:00.10\00:44:01.44 that He was willing to stay on the cross 00:44:01.47\00:44:03.51 and give up His eternal existence 00:44:03.54\00:44:05.87 if necessary to get us in heaven. 00:44:05.91\00:44:07.98 That totally changed my life at age 16, 00:44:08.01\00:44:11.15 and that's what has compelled me to go 00:44:11.18\00:44:12.85 as a missionary throughout the world 00:44:12.88\00:44:15.28 to be able to just say people have to know 00:44:15.32\00:44:18.05 this God who loves them so much 00:44:18.09\00:44:19.42 that if they are not in heaven, He will miss them for eternity. 00:44:19.45\00:44:24.59 I think that as we meet people, 00:44:24.63\00:44:26.80 as we see them and look at them, 00:44:26.83\00:44:28.23 we have to pray for God to fill our hearts 00:44:28.26\00:44:31.03 with ability to see them like He does 00:44:31.07\00:44:33.40 and to love them that much 00:44:33.44\00:44:34.77 and just know we have to talk to them. 00:44:34.80\00:44:37.01 A lot of times, 00:44:37.04\00:44:38.37 I'm sitting on a plane or somewhere 00:44:38.41\00:44:39.94 and I want to read a book or want to take a nap, 00:44:39.97\00:44:42.78 and then somebody sits down 00:44:42.81\00:44:44.38 and I remember it's my job to ask Jesus, 00:44:44.41\00:44:47.42 what does He wanna say to them, 00:44:47.45\00:44:48.95 how do I interact with them? 00:44:48.98\00:44:50.62 And so He teaches me to put away my book 00:44:50.65\00:44:53.09 and turn to them and begin talking to them. 00:44:53.12\00:44:55.82 And that really is what motivates me. 00:44:55.86\00:44:58.69 It's because Jesus loves them and He will miss them. 00:44:58.73\00:45:02.23 And the more I have had my own children 00:45:02.26\00:45:05.20 and realize how much I witness them in heaven 00:45:05.23\00:45:07.77 if they are not there, 00:45:07.80\00:45:09.34 that also is what keeps me going 00:45:09.37\00:45:11.27 and makes me say, 00:45:11.31\00:45:12.67 I wanna make sure everybody I meet 00:45:12.71\00:45:14.91 has an opportunity to know Jesus 00:45:14.94\00:45:17.11 and is able to be with Him forever. 00:45:17.15\00:45:19.08 Amen. 00:45:23.15\00:45:24.49 Well, good evening, everyone. 00:45:24.52\00:45:25.85 Happy Sabbath. Happy Sabbath. 00:45:25.89\00:45:27.22 Are you having a blessed time at ASI? 00:45:27.26\00:45:28.59 Amen. God is good. 00:45:28.62\00:45:30.43 Well, you know, 00:45:30.46\00:45:31.79 ASI is an amazing organization 00:45:31.83\00:45:34.73 and out of ASI over the years, Dr. Lela, 00:45:34.76\00:45:37.40 a number of very powerful ministries 00:45:37.43\00:45:40.10 have sprung up and taken root. 00:45:40.14\00:45:42.37 And ASI has sheltered them and helped them 00:45:42.40\00:45:44.67 to become ministries that have impacted the world. 00:45:44.71\00:45:46.91 That's right. 00:45:46.94\00:45:48.28 One of those ministries that you may have heard 00:45:48.31\00:45:49.81 a little something about is called 00:45:49.84\00:45:51.91 "Your Best Pathway to Health." 00:45:51.95\00:45:54.72 And with me here on the stage is Dr. Lela Ng, 00:45:54.75\00:45:58.22 the Co-Founder and Director of Your Best Pathway to Health. 00:45:58.25\00:46:01.46 Dr. Lela, can you tell us 00:46:01.49\00:46:03.19 what is Your Best Pathway to Health? 00:46:03.22\00:46:04.93 Well, Your Best Pathway to Health, 00:46:04.96\00:46:06.39 Pastor Kyle, is what I would call 00:46:06.43\00:46:08.16 a comprehensive medical evangelism at its core. 00:46:08.20\00:46:10.97 It is essentially a mobile hospital. 00:46:11.00\00:46:12.90 Actually how many of you have heard 00:46:12.93\00:46:14.27 of Pathway to Health, a few? 00:46:14.30\00:46:16.24 Amen. Amen. 00:46:16.27\00:46:17.61 God has used His method 00:46:17.64\00:46:19.87 to I believe to really bring us alive 00:46:19.91\00:46:22.41 and provide what we have now is Total Member Involvement, 00:46:22.44\00:46:25.71 every single church member 00:46:25.75\00:46:27.72 having an active role 00:46:27.75\00:46:29.08 to play in this wonderful work 00:46:29.12\00:46:30.45 of sharing Christ's love with the masses. 00:46:30.49\00:46:31.82 That's right. 00:46:31.85\00:46:33.19 And the beautiful thing is 00:46:33.22\00:46:34.56 it brings together all kinds of people. 00:46:34.59\00:46:35.92 Everybody. 00:46:35.96\00:46:37.29 Medical, non medical, 00:46:37.33\00:46:38.66 all sectors of the church coming together 00:46:38.69\00:46:40.03 to serve people in Jesus' name. 00:46:40.06\00:46:41.40 Amen. 00:46:41.43\00:46:42.76 So this ministry has had a profound impact 00:46:42.80\00:46:45.83 not only locally here in the North American division 00:46:45.87\00:46:49.04 but also globally. 00:46:49.07\00:46:50.41 But it's impacted volunteers, it's impacted patients. 00:46:50.44\00:46:53.78 Can you give us just a snapshot, Dr. Lela, 00:46:53.81\00:46:56.08 of some of the impact of Pathway 00:46:56.11\00:46:58.05 over the last four, five years? 00:46:58.08\00:46:59.41 Well, by God's grace, actually it's been six years 00:46:59.45\00:47:01.55 of planning now, Pastor Kyle. 00:47:01.58\00:47:03.52 So six years, we've been able to serve 00:47:03.55\00:47:05.85 just about 40,000 patients. 00:47:05.89\00:47:08.02 Forty thousand patients? 00:47:08.06\00:47:09.39 Forty thousand patients. 00:47:09.42\00:47:10.76 Amen. Amen. 00:47:10.79\00:47:12.13 And that was only in 21 days of service 00:47:12.16\00:47:13.86 which was a miracle of God. 00:47:13.90\00:47:16.10 Just under $180 million in free healthcare, 00:47:16.13\00:47:19.20 but what's most important 00:47:19.23\00:47:20.87 is that thousands upon thousands 00:47:20.90\00:47:22.90 have become acquainted with the love of Jesus 00:47:22.94\00:47:25.07 and the true gospel message 00:47:25.11\00:47:26.78 that Jesus wants to share with the world. 00:47:26.81\00:47:28.24 Amen. 00:47:28.28\00:47:29.61 And not only that, we've had how many volunteers 00:47:29.64\00:47:31.28 that have made this possible? 00:47:31.31\00:47:32.65 We have about 15,000 to 16,000 volunteers 00:47:32.68\00:47:35.28 within the data bank now, so God has truly blessed. 00:47:35.32\00:47:37.75 And it's been a cycle, 00:47:37.79\00:47:39.15 it's not just coming to an event. 00:47:39.19\00:47:40.69 In San Antonio in 2015, we had a whole church 00:47:40.72\00:47:43.56 that was planted out of that event. 00:47:43.59\00:47:45.49 So people come, they learn about us, 00:47:45.53\00:47:47.83 they learn about Jesus through these events 00:47:47.86\00:47:49.93 and then they come and get baptized. 00:47:49.96\00:47:51.80 So, Dr. Lela, many have caught this vision 00:47:51.83\00:47:54.70 not only here in North America but also around the world. 00:47:54.74\00:47:56.94 Other countries have said, "We want this too!" 00:47:56.97\00:47:58.71 Help us! What can we do? 00:47:58.74\00:48:01.04 So what happened as that happened? 00:48:01.08\00:48:03.71 So out of that came Adventist World Radio, 00:48:03.75\00:48:06.15 AWR360° Health, 00:48:06.18\00:48:08.62 and that is the international opportunity, 00:48:08.65\00:48:10.89 in fact we just got back from India. 00:48:10.92\00:48:12.75 We did Philippines last year, God truly blessed. 00:48:12.79\00:48:15.29 That's right. 00:48:15.32\00:48:16.66 We had an extremely wonderful event in India. 00:48:16.69\00:48:19.09 We were in the city of Chennai and Calcutta 00:48:19.13\00:48:21.46 and thousands of patients were helped. 00:48:21.50\00:48:24.13 We had... 00:48:24.17\00:48:25.50 A little over 3,000 people, 00:48:25.53\00:48:26.87 that was an absolute blessing from God. 00:48:26.90\00:48:28.50 Many of them came to the evangelistic series, 00:48:28.54\00:48:30.61 Elder Ted Wilson preached in Calcutta... 00:48:30.64\00:48:33.34 That's right. 00:48:33.38\00:48:34.71 And some of the patients that had come to the meetings 00:48:34.74\00:48:36.75 actually came to the series and made decisions for Christ. 00:48:36.78\00:48:39.11 Amen. 00:48:39.15\00:48:40.48 We were so blessed 00:48:40.52\00:48:41.85 to have our local doctors and providers, 00:48:41.88\00:48:43.22 Dr. Jacob who happens to be here, 00:48:43.25\00:48:44.75 a member of ASI 00:48:44.79\00:48:46.12 and many others working together 00:48:46.15\00:48:47.69 for such a beautiful ministry. 00:48:47.72\00:48:49.06 That's right. 00:48:49.09\00:48:50.43 Over 400 eye surgeries 00:48:50.46\00:48:51.79 where the cataracts were removed 00:48:51.83\00:48:53.16 and people could see again, 00:48:53.19\00:48:54.53 but again it's not about just that physical healing, 00:48:54.56\00:48:56.00 it's about bringing them spiritual healing... 00:48:56.03\00:48:57.37 Most importantly turning them to Jesus, absolutely. 00:48:57.40\00:48:59.23 As well. 00:48:59.27\00:49:00.60 So we had a wonderful time in India, 00:49:00.64\00:49:03.71 God has blessed in a tremendous way, 00:49:03.74\00:49:05.77 but Dr. Lela, 00:49:05.81\00:49:07.14 some important things are happening in 2020. 00:49:07.18\00:49:09.28 Can you tell us about some opportunities 00:49:09.31\00:49:11.65 for doing this type of work next year? 00:49:11.68\00:49:13.42 Absolutely. 00:49:13.45\00:49:14.78 Next year, 2020, March of 2020, 00:49:14.82\00:49:17.55 we are going to be doing AWR360° Health 00:49:17.59\00:49:20.76 in Papua New Guinea. 00:49:20.79\00:49:22.12 Where? Amen. 00:51:55.28\00:51:57.58 So I fell in love with the idea of evangelism, 00:51:57.61\00:51:59.75 when I fell in love with a man named Jesus. 00:51:59.78\00:52:02.55 And when I came face to face 00:52:02.58\00:52:04.59 with his undying love for me individually, 00:52:04.62\00:52:07.59 I realized that he was someone 00:52:07.62\00:52:09.59 worth losing everything else for. 00:52:09.62\00:52:12.33 And through the course of my experience 00:52:12.36\00:52:14.03 in being a follower of Jesus, 00:52:14.06\00:52:16.00 and being evolved in evangelism and in ministry, 00:52:16.03\00:52:19.00 I came to realize 00:52:19.03\00:52:20.37 that it can be a difficult experience. 00:52:20.40\00:52:22.04 But I've also found that 00:52:22.07\00:52:23.41 it's the most rewarding experience 00:52:23.44\00:52:24.77 that I had ever gone through. 00:52:24.81\00:52:26.27 And I have seen people make decisions for eternity 00:52:26.31\00:52:29.18 that otherwise may not have had it not been 00:52:29.21\00:52:30.98 for the worthy God has called me 00:52:31.01\00:52:32.35 to do individually. 00:52:32.38\00:52:33.72 So whatever sacrifice has been involved, 00:52:33.75\00:52:35.52 I have found to be well worth it 00:52:35.55\00:52:37.39 because I found someone who is well worth. 00:52:37.42\00:52:40.26
