Good evening, ASI family. 00:04:18.25\00:04:22.29 It's good to see everyone. 00:04:22.32\00:04:24.13 We have some wonderful guests with us tonight. 00:04:24.16\00:04:26.83 I begin over here, 00:04:26.86\00:04:28.20 we have Kristina and Daniel McFeeter 00:04:28.23\00:04:31.33 from Kristina's Kitchen 00:04:31.37\00:04:33.34 and we have Dr. John Kelly 00:04:33.37\00:04:35.47 and Patty LaVanture 00:04:35.50\00:04:36.84 who everyone knows from Oak Haven. 00:04:36.87\00:04:39.57 And then we have a testimony by Richard Alva. 00:04:39.61\00:04:43.58 So we are going to start tonight 00:04:43.61\00:04:45.78 with Kristina and Daniel. 00:04:45.81\00:04:50.05 And Kristina and Daniel have a kitchen, 00:04:50.09\00:04:52.95 it's called Kristina's Kitchen. 00:04:52.99\00:04:54.69 Can you tell us what made you start Kristina's Kitchen 00:04:54.72\00:04:57.99 which is a centre of influence? 00:04:58.03\00:05:01.23 I've always had an interest in mission work 00:05:01.26\00:05:04.03 in the United States and when I met Daniel 00:05:04.07\00:05:08.10 and he lived in Kentucky which I didn't, 00:05:08.14\00:05:12.21 but he started telling me about this group of people 00:05:12.24\00:05:15.54 called Avalachia 00:05:15.58\00:05:17.05 and I had never heard of it, of course, 00:05:17.08\00:05:18.85 after I moved there I discovered it was Appalachia 00:05:18.88\00:05:21.28 but it peeks my interest 00:05:21.32\00:05:24.12 and I really just fell a burden to do something 00:05:24.15\00:05:27.36 to reach the people of Appalachia 00:05:27.39\00:05:28.86 in the United States. 00:05:28.89\00:05:30.23 All right. 00:05:30.26\00:05:31.59 Now that sounds to be like a lot of work. 00:05:31.63\00:05:33.80 How much preparation did that take? 00:05:33.83\00:05:36.80 We've spent five years doing preparation work, 00:05:36.83\00:05:40.77 doing cooking classes, 00:05:40.80\00:05:42.37 just reaching out to the community, 00:05:42.40\00:05:46.04 just anything that I could do and help 00:05:46.07\00:05:49.04 and especially focusing on anything 00:05:49.08\00:05:52.21 with friendship evangelism 00:05:52.25\00:05:53.78 so making friends with the people 00:05:53.82\00:05:55.82 being a part of the community and with our cooking classes, 00:05:55.85\00:05:59.05 we did monthly cooking classes, 00:05:59.09\00:06:01.99 and they're still going on after 10 years, 00:06:02.02\00:06:04.99 in two locations, every month. 00:06:05.03\00:06:07.80 So it sounds like a lot of preparation 00:06:07.83\00:06:09.26 went into this. 00:06:09.30\00:06:10.63 And tell us what exactly is Kristina's Kitchen? 00:06:10.67\00:06:14.57 Okay. 00:06:14.60\00:06:15.94 Kristina's Kitchen's been opened for five years. 00:06:15.97\00:06:18.91 It is a bakery, vegetarian restaurant, 00:06:18.94\00:06:21.78 health food store. 00:06:21.81\00:06:23.65 We also have a delivery route 00:06:23.68\00:06:25.58 once a week in a town about 30 miles away. 00:06:25.61\00:06:28.42 And we also offer 00:06:28.45\00:06:29.78 an apprenticeship training program for students 00:06:29.82\00:06:31.49 who want to experience restaurant ministry 00:06:31.52\00:06:34.96 and health ministry on frontlines. 00:06:34.99\00:06:36.73 All right. 00:06:36.76\00:06:38.09 Now I believe that there are some pictures. 00:06:38.13\00:06:40.53 Pictures number one, two and three, 00:06:40.56\00:06:42.13 if they can just show some of those pictures 00:06:42.16\00:06:44.33 of Kristina's Kitchen, 00:06:44.37\00:06:45.83 that'll give everybody an idea what this looks like. 00:06:45.87\00:06:48.54 So if you'd show those, 00:06:48.57\00:06:49.94 in the mean time Kristina's Kitchen 00:06:49.97\00:06:52.34 I know is involved in the community 00:06:52.37\00:06:54.58 and how is it involved in the community? 00:06:54.61\00:06:56.95 What kinds of things are you doing? 00:06:56.98\00:06:59.68 Okay, so we always wanted to just become 00:06:59.71\00:07:03.89 a part of the community. 00:07:03.92\00:07:05.25 That's been our goal, 00:07:05.29\00:07:06.62 we really wanted to be an outpost ministry 00:07:06.65\00:07:08.29 and center of influence in the community. 00:07:08.32\00:07:10.99 And so, we've basically opened the restaurant 00:07:11.03\00:07:13.66 to the community for nonprofit organizations 00:07:13.70\00:07:17.27 to use our restaurant for meetings, 00:07:17.30\00:07:20.00 the farmers market meets at the restaurant. 00:07:20.04\00:07:22.00 Of course, we have the cooking classes, 00:07:22.04\00:07:24.04 a homemaker's clubs uses our restaurant 00:07:24.07\00:07:26.24 and so also our involvement 00:07:26.27\00:07:29.78 with the Chamber of Commerce 00:07:29.81\00:07:32.71 and representing restaurants 00:07:32.75\00:07:35.88 on the tourism board just really, 00:07:35.92\00:07:37.55 just trying to become a part of the community 00:07:37.59\00:07:40.06 in every aspect because we love our community 00:07:40.09\00:07:43.12 and we want to be a part of them. 00:07:43.16\00:07:44.49 Yeah, that's really an important piece I think 00:07:44.53\00:07:46.16 that all that stuff it sounds like so much work, 00:07:46.19\00:07:49.50 but really great work, 00:07:49.53\00:07:51.00 so I'm really thankful for that. 00:07:51.03\00:07:53.07 Um, there must be some stories from Kristina's Kitchen, 00:07:53.10\00:07:57.51 examples of things that have happened 00:07:57.54\00:07:59.24 as a result of that specifically? 00:07:59.27\00:08:01.88 Well, one thing I didn't want to share 00:08:01.91\00:08:03.55 before I tell a few stories is little bit of my husband. 00:08:03.58\00:08:07.18 I want to give him a second to introduce himself 00:08:07.22\00:08:09.68 'cause I kind of talked about me. 00:08:09.72\00:08:11.32 So I am Daniel McFeeters, of course, 00:08:11.35\00:08:14.32 and everyone knows me as Kristina's husband 00:08:14.36\00:08:17.33 which is all right, you know... 00:08:17.36\00:08:18.69 That is all right. In fact, no. 00:08:18.73\00:08:21.56 I serve currently as a pastor of a small church district 00:08:21.60\00:08:25.60 in southeast Kentucky where we live, 00:08:25.63\00:08:28.70 but actually that was only of recent development. 00:08:28.74\00:08:31.41 My background is in computers. 00:08:31.44\00:08:34.08 I'm a computer professional by training, 00:08:34.11\00:08:36.61 and Kristina and I started this venture 00:08:36.64\00:08:40.32 and to help as a lay ministry together, 00:08:40.35\00:08:42.65 and it's interesting how the Lord leads. 00:08:42.68\00:08:44.95 So he's my partner, 00:08:44.99\00:08:46.39 but I want to tell you a couple of stories. 00:08:46.42\00:08:48.36 There's a picture, 00:08:48.39\00:08:49.72 I'm very thankful there's one there. 00:08:49.76\00:08:51.23 I just, I could go on and on. 00:08:51.26\00:08:55.30 Customers that have just really been 00:08:55.33\00:08:58.27 become part of our family, 00:08:58.30\00:09:00.24 coming at regular basis, 00:09:00.27\00:09:01.90 being able to sit down eat lunch with them 00:09:01.94\00:09:04.31 while they're eating at a restaurant, 00:09:04.34\00:09:06.11 being able to have Bible studies with them 00:09:06.14\00:09:07.78 while they're eating lunch, 00:09:07.81\00:09:09.61 just praying with them. 00:09:09.64\00:09:12.78 We had our local UPS guy 00:09:12.81\00:09:16.48 that we were able to actually save him 00:09:16.52\00:09:19.79 from losing his job because his health was so poor 00:09:19.82\00:09:22.52 and just through eating lunch at our restaurant every day, 00:09:22.56\00:09:25.26 he's been able to keep his job for an extra two years... 00:09:25.29\00:09:27.76 Yes, okay Which is really exciting 00:09:27.80\00:09:30.47 and he's, of course, 00:09:30.50\00:09:31.83 you know he's the UPS guy so he tells everybody in town, 00:09:31.87\00:09:34.74 you know, Kristina's Kitchen is the reason 00:09:34.77\00:09:36.74 why I still have a job and you should go eat there 00:09:36.77\00:09:39.17 because the food really does taste good. 00:09:39.21\00:09:40.71 That's great. 00:09:40.74\00:09:42.08 And my favorite thing of all is that 00:09:42.11\00:09:45.68 God has really blessed us. 00:09:45.71\00:09:48.32 Just this last December, 00:09:48.35\00:09:50.65 our first restaurant customer joined our church. 00:09:50.69\00:09:52.85 Wow. And I enjoyed your talk. 00:11:47.90\00:11:50.91 So anyway they went on 00:11:50.94\00:11:53.14 to describe the need for lifestyle knowledge, 00:11:53.17\00:11:57.75 lifestyle medicine and primary care 00:11:57.78\00:12:00.35 and in specialties. 00:12:00.38\00:12:02.15 Well, now Seventh-day Adventist, 00:12:02.18\00:12:03.52 this is no surprise 00:12:03.55\00:12:04.89 because we've known about the cause 00:12:04.92\00:12:06.25 and effect relationship between lifestyle and health 00:12:06.29\00:12:09.69 and disease for century or more. 00:12:09.72\00:12:12.13 In fact, in Medical Ministry, page 27, paragraph 2, 00:12:12.16\00:12:16.16 some of you will know recognize this, 00:12:16.20\00:12:18.63 but we're actually the purpose 00:12:18.67\00:12:20.54 for sanitarians being established was revealed, 00:12:20.57\00:12:23.30 and it was to reform 00:12:23.34\00:12:24.87 the medical practices of physicians. 00:12:24.91\00:12:26.27 Yes. 00:12:26.31\00:12:27.64 So a number of years ago, 00:12:27.68\00:12:29.01 that really took hold of my heart 00:12:29.04\00:12:30.78 as I was talking to God 00:12:30.81\00:12:32.15 about what was the purpose at my emptiness, 00:12:32.18\00:12:35.48 what was I supposed to do after that. 00:12:35.52\00:12:37.62 And I really decided this was the thing, 00:12:37.65\00:12:39.99 so I've been working in lifestyle medicine, 00:12:40.02\00:12:42.29 many of you know that for many years. 00:12:42.32\00:12:45.76 In 2004, the American College 00:12:45.79\00:12:48.63 of Lifestyle Medicine was established. 00:12:48.66\00:12:50.60 And you were...? 00:12:50.63\00:12:52.13 I was the Founding President 00:12:52.17\00:12:53.50 Founding President of the American 00:12:53.54\00:12:55.07 College of Lifestyle Medicine. 00:12:55.10\00:12:56.44 Yes. 00:12:56.47\00:12:57.81 As a matter of fact, you got an award. 00:12:57.84\00:12:59.17 That is true. Yes. 00:12:59.21\00:13:00.54 Somebody's been talking to you but anyway, yes, 00:13:00.58\00:13:01.91 so the American Medical Association 00:13:01.94\00:13:03.28 actually gave me an award for that work. 00:13:03.31\00:13:06.28 In 2017, the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine 00:13:06.31\00:13:10.92 was established 00:13:10.95\00:13:12.29 and so now physicians can become 00:13:12.32\00:13:14.52 board certified in Lifestyle medicine. 00:13:14.56\00:13:17.13 We have to take the proper training 00:13:17.16\00:13:18.49 and courses and pass the exam. 00:13:18.53\00:13:21.43 But now two years later, 00:13:21.46\00:13:23.23 is over almost a thousand physicians 00:13:23.26\00:13:24.87 around the world. 00:13:24.90\00:13:26.23 There's our board certified in Lifestyle medicine 00:13:26.27\00:13:28.17 and is growing fast. 00:13:28.20\00:13:30.17 The American College of Lifestyle Medicine 00:13:30.21\00:13:32.31 has doubled membership five years running, 00:13:32.34\00:13:35.28 this is how, this is really growing. 00:13:35.31\00:13:36.64 Yeah. 00:13:36.68\00:13:38.01 So what happened was what drew me to Oak Haven 00:13:38.05\00:13:42.22 was the opportunity to establish a training program 00:13:42.25\00:13:47.76 for physicians and nurses, that's... 00:13:47.79\00:13:50.93 So you have a residential program 00:13:50.96\00:13:52.36 designed for training. 00:13:52.39\00:13:53.73 Yes. 00:13:53.76\00:13:55.10 And so, I've been training 00:13:55.13\00:13:58.00 in doing physicians previously, 00:13:58.03\00:14:00.77 but what we're doing now is a program designed for that. 00:14:00.80\00:14:03.17 Yes. 00:14:03.20\00:14:04.54 And we had a little clip 00:14:04.57\00:14:06.01 we could show about this 10-day Immersion, 00:14:06.04\00:14:08.28 just a one minute, we use a 10-day Immersion 00:14:08.31\00:14:11.21 because that way we can refer them to Daniel 00:14:11.25\00:14:13.31 as where we come up with that. 00:14:13.35\00:14:15.55 You know every chance you get, put hooks in what you do, 00:14:15.58\00:14:18.69 so you have a chance to bring in the Bible. 00:14:18.72\00:14:21.29 Yeah. But whenever we get... 00:14:21.32\00:14:22.72 We'll show you that clip, 00:14:22.76\00:14:25.26 I'm gonna talk about a physician 00:14:25.29\00:14:27.90 that came for training... 00:14:27.93\00:14:29.56 And then Patty's gonna talk about 00:14:29.60\00:14:31.97 the opportunity we have 00:14:32.00\00:14:33.34 working with the Michigan Conference. 00:14:33.37\00:14:34.70 With pastors, yeah. 00:14:34.74\00:14:36.07 With pastors in Michigan Conference. 00:14:36.10\00:14:37.44 So in the interest of time... Yes. 00:14:37.47\00:14:39.67 I just want to say that this is a perfect organization 00:14:39.71\00:14:43.08 'cause you're training physicians and pastors. 00:14:43.11\00:14:44.75 Correct. 00:14:44.78\00:14:46.11 Okay, so tell me about the physicians 00:14:46.15\00:14:47.48 and, Patty, will tell me about the pastors. 00:14:47.52\00:14:48.85 Okay. 00:14:48.88\00:14:50.22 So the physicians come for a ten-day clinical trading. 00:14:50.25\00:14:53.39 They complete the course, 00:14:53.42\00:14:55.99 the board review course for a lifestyle medicine 00:14:56.02\00:14:59.29 which when they ask me to write questions, 00:14:59.33\00:15:01.70 I said, wait a minute. 00:15:01.73\00:15:03.06 I'd rather write the review course, 00:15:03.10\00:15:04.80 so I'm actually co-author of the board review course 00:15:04.83\00:15:08.57 in lifestyle medicine, so that gave me 00:15:08.60\00:15:10.37 a certain attraction for training. 00:15:10.41\00:15:12.91 And so physicians literally, I mean, we just all the time 00:15:12.94\00:15:15.78 we're getting enquiries 00:15:15.81\00:15:17.15 from physicians all over the world, 00:15:17.18\00:15:19.65 mostly in US but all over and they will come for 10 days. 00:15:19.68\00:15:23.75 Before they come they will take 00:15:23.79\00:15:25.12 a 30 CME course online 00:15:25.15\00:15:28.22 and with a manual textbook 00:15:28.26\00:15:31.66 and then they go through the clinical training 00:15:31.69\00:15:34.00 as of observer but also as a patient. 00:15:34.03\00:15:36.77 So they actually see 00:15:36.80\00:15:38.13 what happens to their own lifestyle changes 00:15:38.17\00:15:40.47 and the risk factors 00:15:40.50\00:15:42.27 and I wanted to tell about one I... 00:15:42.30\00:15:44.14 I'm gonna call her Jane Doe for, 00:15:44.17\00:15:46.27 to keep her confidential her name, 00:15:46.31\00:15:48.54 but she was a Muslim 00:15:48.58\00:15:50.41 and I had only trained two Muslims before. 00:15:50.45\00:15:52.75 This is a great experience. 00:15:52.78\00:15:54.12 She love our spirituality and our commitment to prayer, 00:15:54.15\00:15:57.99 she was impressed with that. 00:15:58.02\00:16:00.59 Long story short, she came, 00:16:00.62\00:16:02.12 she was on a low carb diet 00:16:02.16\00:16:03.56 trying to lose weight without much success. 00:16:03.59\00:16:06.39 I say, "Well, you can continue 00:16:06.43\00:16:08.23 but why didn't you try this for the 10 days." 00:16:08.26\00:16:10.33 So she agreed to do a plant based. 00:16:10.37\00:16:12.53 She has so much results and improvements. 00:16:12.57\00:16:14.44 She went home, her husband went on the program 00:16:14.47\00:16:17.47 for four days only, he told her. 00:16:17.51\00:16:19.31 After four days, he bought in 00:16:19.34\00:16:21.31 and so he's lost 20 some pounds, 00:16:21.34\00:16:24.15 they're both tickled. 00:16:24.18\00:16:25.61 She went home to Saudi Arabia for Ramadan, 00:16:25.65\00:16:30.49 said, it was wonderful. 00:16:30.52\00:16:31.85 She had no... 00:16:31.89\00:16:33.22 She actually got friends and family 00:16:33.25\00:16:34.69 to join her during that. 00:16:34.72\00:16:36.06 So we found that she was a real typical example 00:16:36.09\00:16:39.66 of someone taking a training that wanted to know 00:16:39.69\00:16:41.80 how to use lifestyle through disease. 00:16:41.83\00:16:43.16 Okay. All right. 00:16:43.20\00:16:44.53 Patty, time is up, however, 00:16:44.57\00:16:45.93 tell me just in 15 seconds about the pastors? 00:16:45.97\00:16:48.40 Okay. 00:16:48.44\00:16:49.77 August 11, we're starting an inaugural program 00:16:49.80\00:16:52.17 for pastors in collaboration with the Michigan Conference 00:16:52.21\00:16:55.74 and the pastors will come with their wives, 00:16:55.78\00:16:58.28 with their children and we'll be having classes 00:16:58.31\00:17:01.32 for the children as well, 00:17:01.35\00:17:02.68 so they'll be learning health principles 00:17:02.72\00:17:04.65 and the pastors will take these principles back 00:17:04.69\00:17:07.89 to their pastoral districts and we'll actually be 00:17:07.92\00:17:12.33 running rallies after the Lifestyle program, 00:17:12.36\00:17:15.83 so lots of good things going on. 00:17:15.86\00:17:18.07 Time goes so quickly, but Oak Haven 00:17:18.10\00:17:20.54 is really expanding to include training 00:17:20.57\00:17:23.14 of both physicians and pastors together, 00:17:23.17\00:17:25.74 and we've been told that we need to do that. 00:17:25.77\00:17:27.74 Thank you very much. 00:17:27.78\00:17:29.11 Yes. Thank you. 00:17:29.14\00:17:30.48 Now our last one is Richard, 00:17:30.51\00:17:32.35 and we have six minutes on the clock, Richard, 00:17:32.38\00:17:35.62 and I'm gonna watch the clock. 00:17:35.65\00:17:37.15 His testimony is very interesting. 00:17:37.19\00:17:38.82 Richard, what do you do? 00:17:38.85\00:17:40.19 Good evening ASI. 00:17:40.22\00:17:41.69 I'm a health educator. Okay. 00:17:41.72\00:17:43.06 But I just wanted Patty to be 00:17:43.09\00:17:44.53 able to tell everyone what booth number 00:17:44.56\00:17:48.03 Oak Haven is at? 00:17:48.06\00:17:49.40 752. 752. 00:17:49.43\00:17:51.20 Okay so you are health educator. 00:17:51.23\00:17:53.27 Now Patty, excuse me, Richard's story is interesting. 00:17:53.30\00:17:56.50 Richard, very quickly. So... 00:17:56.54\00:17:58.37 Tell us about your start 00:17:58.41\00:18:02.01 in health education? 00:18:02.04\00:18:04.18 So in a nutshell, 00:18:04.21\00:18:07.15 my life puts on display 00:18:07.18\00:18:10.42 the mercy of God 00:18:10.45\00:18:12.49 and how incredibly much God loves 00:18:12.52\00:18:16.06 each and every one of us. 00:18:16.09\00:18:17.43 I started life as a health educator 00:18:17.46\00:18:20.80 at the age of four years old. 00:18:20.83\00:18:23.40 I was living with my dad 00:18:23.43\00:18:25.43 in the middle of nowhere in the Mexican desert, 00:18:25.47\00:18:28.47 and he was completing his medical training there, 00:18:28.50\00:18:32.57 doing a year of social service, so he was the town doctor. 00:18:32.61\00:18:37.81 And I was with him, assisting him and so, 00:18:37.85\00:18:41.28 I would stand in the waiting room 00:18:41.32\00:18:42.78 in the clinic during clinic hours, 00:18:42.82\00:18:45.45 and I would dispense information to anyone 00:18:45.49\00:18:47.66 who would listen about hygiene 00:18:47.69\00:18:49.66 and proper hydration and all sorts of stuff. 00:18:49.69\00:18:53.60 So this is interesting, right? 00:18:53.63\00:18:55.53 He is four years old 00:18:55.56\00:18:57.50 and he is giving health education lectures 00:18:57.53\00:19:00.27 to his father's patients. 00:19:00.30\00:19:01.64 That's right. 00:19:01.67\00:19:03.00 That's an awesome four-year old. 00:19:03.04\00:19:04.37 That's right. All right. 00:19:04.41\00:19:05.74 So then tell me what did that experience 00:19:05.77\00:19:09.04 contour up in you? 00:19:09.08\00:19:10.65 So that experience for me was incredibly formative. 00:19:10.68\00:19:14.48 It burned into my mind 00:19:14.52\00:19:17.42 the definition of what a physician is. 00:19:17.45\00:19:20.76 And so, as I looked around me as a young boy, 00:19:20.79\00:19:24.13 I would see my father taking care of people, 00:19:24.16\00:19:28.46 loving them, being their friend, 00:19:28.50\00:19:30.77 being kind to them, 00:19:30.80\00:19:32.17 and it was in that context 00:19:32.20\00:19:34.30 that all clinical work took place. 00:19:34.34\00:19:36.97 Okay. 00:19:37.01\00:19:38.51 And you decided initially to go to medical school? 00:19:38.54\00:19:41.31 I did. 00:19:41.34\00:19:42.68 It was my lifelong dream to become a physician, 00:19:42.71\00:19:44.75 and that was my definition of what a physician was. 00:19:44.78\00:19:48.38 Okay. 00:19:48.42\00:19:49.75 So you got to medical school and something happened 00:19:49.78\00:19:52.22 the very first day of medical school? 00:19:52.25\00:19:53.86 What's interesting, the first day of medical school 00:19:53.89\00:19:56.56 at Montemorelos University in Mexico, 00:19:56.59\00:20:01.43 they take all of the students and they had us 00:20:01.46\00:20:03.73 write on very tiny pieces of paper. 00:20:03.77\00:20:08.10 We have to write on there 00:20:08.14\00:20:09.47 why we wanted to become physicians. 00:20:09.50\00:20:12.37 And so, we wrote on there 00:20:12.41\00:20:14.11 and then we put them inside these little capsules 00:20:14.14\00:20:16.81 and those capsules went into some kind of 00:20:16.85\00:20:18.78 vault for posterity, right, so we could, you know, 00:20:18.81\00:20:21.85 open up and see in the future 00:20:21.88\00:20:24.79 if why we wanted to become physicians had aligned 00:20:24.82\00:20:28.19 somehow with reality. 00:20:28.22\00:20:29.79 Okay. 00:20:29.82\00:20:31.16 Now you told me as we talked 00:20:31.19\00:20:33.29 that two organizations really impacted 00:20:33.33\00:20:36.00 what you wrote on your little capsule, 00:20:36.03\00:20:38.77 and then one of them was ASI? 00:20:38.80\00:20:40.44 One of them was ASI and the other one was GYC, 00:20:40.47\00:20:43.81 so Generation of Youth for Christ. 00:20:43.84\00:20:45.34 Yes. And so they were instrumental. 00:20:45.37\00:20:49.14 All of your ministries, just amazing for me 00:20:49.18\00:20:54.32 to get an idea of why we're here, 00:20:54.35\00:20:56.45 what we're doing, 00:20:56.48\00:20:57.82 sharing Christ in the marketplace 00:20:57.85\00:20:59.22 as a lifestyle became really a part of me 00:20:59.25\00:21:03.06 and so I wrote on that piece of paper, 00:21:03.09\00:21:04.83 "I wanna become a physician to bring others to Jesus." 00:21:04.86\00:21:08.96 Yes. Okay. 00:21:09.00\00:21:10.43 You get to medical school, 00:21:10.47\00:21:12.27 by the third year of medical school, 00:21:12.30\00:21:14.20 the curriculum there is different 00:21:14.24\00:21:15.57 than the States, 00:21:15.60\00:21:16.94 and in the third year of medical school 00:21:16.97\00:21:18.97 something happened? 00:21:19.01\00:21:20.34 So I'm in the third year of medical school there, 00:21:20.38\00:21:22.61 I'm still in my basic sciences, learning a lot, 00:21:22.64\00:21:26.05 loving every minute of it, and I spent most of my... 00:21:26.08\00:21:29.08 The first part of my day in class. 00:21:29.12\00:21:32.09 And then after I get out of class, 00:21:32.12\00:21:33.89 I might have lunch and then a lab, 00:21:33.92\00:21:35.72 and then I would go 00:21:35.76\00:21:37.36 and work at the lifestyle center 00:21:37.39\00:21:39.79 that was affiliated with the hospital 00:21:39.83\00:21:42.93 that was affiliated with the university. 00:21:42.96\00:21:46.03 So in the morning, 00:21:46.07\00:21:47.74 I would learn all about the why 00:21:47.77\00:21:53.41 but then in the afternoon, I would get to see the how. 00:21:53.44\00:21:56.85 Yes. 00:21:56.88\00:21:58.21 And it struck me instantly that the way the work was done 00:21:58.25\00:22:01.88 downstairs in the hospital 00:22:01.92\00:22:04.12 and the way the work was conducted upstairs 00:22:04.15\00:22:07.29 in the lifestyle center were starkly different. 00:22:07.32\00:22:11.16 That was an eye opener for me. Yes. 00:22:11.19\00:22:13.56 And not just, that wasn't the only contrast. 00:22:13.60\00:22:16.00 Another contrast was the amount of time patients spent, 00:22:16.03\00:22:20.00 either in the hospital or the lifestyle center, 00:22:20.04\00:22:22.97 and the outcomes they had. 00:22:23.00\00:22:25.67 So it soon became apparent to me that 00:22:25.71\00:22:28.94 those at the lifestyle center spent less time 00:22:28.98\00:22:33.08 and had much better results. 00:22:33.11\00:22:34.88 Okay. 00:22:34.92\00:22:36.25 And that information, 00:22:36.28\00:22:37.89 you made decision to quit medical school 00:22:37.92\00:22:41.32 and go into health education instead. 00:22:41.36\00:22:43.32 How many of you have ever experienced 00:22:43.36\00:22:45.39 a deep personal crisis? 00:22:45.43\00:22:47.93 So my definition of what I had aspired 00:22:50.97\00:22:56.17 to my entire life was now being challenged 00:22:56.20\00:22:59.61 by reality. 00:22:59.64\00:23:01.71 And so I felt called to start working now. 00:23:01.74\00:23:07.68 Yes. 00:23:07.72\00:23:09.05 I knew that eventually if I stuck with it, 00:23:09.08\00:23:12.45 I could become a lifestyle medicine physician. 00:23:12.49\00:23:14.72 Yes. 00:23:14.76\00:23:17.06 We didn't have a certification at that time, 00:23:17.09\00:23:19.96 but I felt deeply moved and impressed 00:23:20.00\00:23:24.50 to start working now 00:23:24.53\00:23:25.87 and soon I came back to the US, 00:23:25.90\00:23:27.64 came back to the States, 00:23:27.67\00:23:29.40 and I started working everywhere I could 00:23:29.44\00:23:32.11 and anywhere I could. 00:23:32.14\00:23:33.48 Yes. That's great. 00:23:33.51\00:23:35.61 Well, that's a powerful testimony, 00:23:35.64\00:23:38.25 there's more to it, but our time is finished. 00:23:38.28\00:23:41.68 I wanna thank you all for participating. 00:23:41.72\00:23:44.12 We're all blessed by your testimonies tonight. 00:23:44.15\00:23:46.55 Thank you, ASI. 00:23:46.59\00:23:47.92 There 00:24:24.69\00:24:26.96 Is a quiet place 00:24:27.00\00:24:33.74 Far from the rapid pace 00:24:33.77\00:24:39.61 Where God can soothe 00:24:39.64\00:24:46.28 My troubled 00:24:46.31\00:24:51.32 Mind 00:24:51.35\00:24:54.49 Sheltered by tree and flow'r 00:24:54.52\00:25:01.03 There in my quiet hour 00:25:01.06\00:25:06.23 With Him my cares 00:25:06.27\00:25:11.67 Are left 00:25:11.71\00:25:15.54 Behind 00:25:15.58\00:25:20.02 Whether a garden small 00:25:20.05\00:25:26.19 Or on a mountain tall 00:25:26.22\00:25:30.79 New strength 00:25:30.83\00:25:33.76 And courage there I find 00:25:33.80\00:25:41.34 Then from 00:25:48.34\00:25:51.21 This quiet place 00:25:51.25\00:25:56.65 I go prepared to face 00:25:56.69\00:26:02.69 A new day with love 00:26:02.72\00:26:09.60 For all mankind 00:26:09.63\00:26:16.71 With love for all mankind 00:26:16.74\00:26:23.85 A quiet place 00:26:44.00\00:26:49.74 And now we have another Offering 00:27:01.95\00:27:03.89 in Action segment and with me 00:27:03.92\00:27:06.42 is Carlos Munoz, he is the Director for AFCOE, 00:27:06.45\00:27:10.73 Amazing Facts College of Evangelism. 00:27:10.76\00:27:13.33 Amen. All right. 00:27:13.36\00:27:14.70 So there are lot of excitement things 00:27:14.73\00:27:16.06 that are happening at Amazing Facts. 00:27:16.10\00:27:19.33 And as a Director of Evangelism, 00:27:19.37\00:27:21.00 you must be very excited about one in particular. 00:27:21.04\00:27:24.44 But tell us a little bit about 00:27:24.47\00:27:26.14 Amazing Facts College of Evangelism, 00:27:26.17\00:27:27.98 some of the things that are going on there 00:27:28.01\00:27:29.74 and then the new piece that's happening? 00:27:29.78\00:27:31.91 Amen. 00:27:31.95\00:27:33.28 So Maranata, good evening everyone and so, 00:27:33.31\00:27:37.29 as most of you know Amazing Facts 00:27:37.32\00:27:38.72 is focused on sharing the everlasting gospel 00:27:38.75\00:27:41.92 through all the resources possible, media, TV, a mail, 00:27:41.96\00:27:46.59 but one of the pillars of the ministry 00:27:46.63\00:27:48.46 also is to train our laymen 00:27:48.50\00:27:52.30 and our church members in evangelism. 00:27:52.33\00:27:54.24 And so, a big focus of our mission 00:27:54.27\00:27:57.51 is evangelism training. 00:27:57.54\00:27:59.07 And so AFCOE 00:27:59.11\00:28:00.44 is the Amazing Facts Center of Evangelism 00:28:00.48\00:28:02.61 and it's where people can come, 00:28:02.64\00:28:05.65 church members from all parts 00:28:05.68\00:28:07.02 and they come and they learn the strategies, 00:28:07.05\00:28:09.48 the methods, the key essentials to learning 00:28:09.52\00:28:12.32 how to be an amazing disciple and so... 00:28:12.35\00:28:15.69 Last year we started our online course 00:28:15.72\00:28:18.09 because sometimes people can't come in, 00:28:18.13\00:28:20.73 they can't come to our course, 00:28:20.76\00:28:22.10 our onsite course and so we decided 00:28:22.13\00:28:24.40 then to push an online course, 00:28:24.43\00:28:26.60 and we started with our taking the courses 00:28:26.63\00:28:29.27 from our AFCOE into starting to upload them 00:28:29.30\00:28:35.28 into this wonderful online course 00:28:35.31\00:28:38.58 that we started called 00:28:38.61\00:28:39.95 "Amazing Disciples" last year. 00:28:39.98\00:28:41.78 So how's that working? 00:28:41.82\00:28:43.15 Now they go online and they enroll 00:28:43.18\00:28:46.22 like they would normally if they came? 00:28:46.25\00:28:48.09 How does it work? Yes. 00:28:48.12\00:28:49.56 It's like an online course 00:28:49.59\00:28:51.89 and so it's basically divided up 00:28:51.93\00:28:53.73 like if it was a Sabbath school, 00:28:53.76\00:28:55.10 it's 13 lesson week, 00:28:55.13\00:28:56.46 every day you have your lesson and then you have your Q and A, 00:28:56.50\00:28:58.53 you have quizzes, and then you have other, 00:28:58.57\00:29:00.34 you have downloads from more resources. 00:29:00.37\00:29:03.20 They can also come in and they have, 00:29:03.24\00:29:04.74 we'll do live Q and A's with Pastor Doug, 00:29:04.77\00:29:07.11 with Pastor John, we'll do just a... 00:29:07.14\00:29:10.75 We have also a Facebook group so there'll be interactions. 00:29:10.78\00:29:13.85 And so the idea is that they can come in there, 00:29:13.88\00:29:15.95 they can be immersed and so, what we developed 00:29:15.98\00:29:18.12 is we started with our first class 00:29:18.15\00:29:19.69 which is Amazing Disciples, and two months ago 00:29:19.72\00:29:21.96 we started with our second class 00:29:21.99\00:29:23.32 which is Amazing Doctrines. 00:29:23.36\00:29:25.03 So we're taking the onsite course 00:29:25.06\00:29:27.13 and we're building it little by little, 00:29:27.16\00:29:28.56 so that anybody 00:29:28.60\00:29:29.93 from any part of the world can come in 00:29:29.96\00:29:31.83 and they can be part of the course with us. 00:29:31.87\00:29:34.40 And so as recipients of this year's offering, 00:29:34.44\00:29:37.17 ASI is supporting the continue development 00:29:37.21\00:29:40.08 for the online courses? 00:29:40.11\00:29:41.44 Amen. Amen. Oh, excellent. 00:29:41.48\00:29:43.85 Now, do you have some stories or testimonies, 00:29:43.88\00:29:46.45 I mean what has been 00:29:46.48\00:29:47.82 the response to people enrolling 00:29:47.85\00:29:49.82 and using these courses? 00:29:49.85\00:29:51.25 Oh, yeah, we have a number of testimonies. 00:29:51.29\00:29:53.09 I'll give you two short ones. 00:29:53.12\00:29:55.26 We have the story of Luis. 00:29:55.29\00:29:56.83 Well, Luis went through the Amazing Disciple course 00:29:56.86\00:29:59.06 and then he went into his church 00:29:59.09\00:30:01.06 and his church was kind of dying out. 00:30:01.10\00:30:03.37 He started to implement some of the strategies 00:30:03.40\00:30:05.40 and methods that he learned, 00:30:05.43\00:30:06.77 the evangelism cycle and some other things 00:30:06.80\00:30:08.54 and off the bat, they had four baptisms 00:30:08.57\00:30:11.87 after they started doing Bible studies, 00:30:11.91\00:30:13.34 and now they're seeing how the evangelism cycle 00:30:13.38\00:30:16.31 is starting to move, the attitude, 00:30:16.34\00:30:17.68 it's starting to change in the church group. 00:30:17.71\00:30:20.52 Another really interesting story 00:30:20.55\00:30:21.92 is from Michael. 00:30:21.95\00:30:23.49 Michael also, he had a severe injury 00:30:23.52\00:30:26.25 and he had to then... 00:30:26.29\00:30:28.02 He wanted to come to our onsite course, 00:30:28.06\00:30:30.63 but he wasn't able to because of the injuries 00:30:30.66\00:30:32.06 and some resources so he did the online course 00:30:32.09\00:30:34.23 and what happened and the doing is that 00:30:34.26\00:30:36.03 he kind of broke out of his shell, 00:30:36.06\00:30:37.63 he started to share, 00:30:37.67\00:30:39.73 implement some of these strategies 00:30:39.77\00:30:41.97 with his family. 00:30:42.00\00:30:43.34 He started giving Bible studies to his grandma, his grandfather 00:30:43.37\00:30:46.24 and we just heard that he just... 00:30:46.27\00:30:47.71 His grandfather and grandmother, 00:30:47.74\00:30:49.08 they just got baptized 00:30:49.11\00:30:50.45 into the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:30:50.48\00:30:51.81 Oh, amen. 00:30:51.85\00:30:53.18 So these are just some examples of... 00:30:53.21\00:30:54.55 So it helps, it really equips people 00:30:54.58\00:30:55.92 and gives them I guess courage 00:30:55.95\00:30:58.95 and then know how to go out 00:30:58.99\00:31:00.32 and know exactly what they need to do. 00:31:00.36\00:31:02.06 So they don't have to be a pastor 00:31:02.09\00:31:03.49 or necessarily leaders in the church? 00:31:03.53\00:31:04.93 No, no, no. Okay. 00:31:04.96\00:31:06.29 It's the calling to be to make disciples 00:31:06.33\00:31:08.90 is for all of us. 00:31:08.93\00:31:10.27 And so we wanna give every laymen 00:31:10.30\00:31:12.60 and every person that's comes into the church, 00:31:12.63\00:31:15.57 we want them to become amazing disciples. 00:31:15.60\00:31:17.31 And so, through the disciples, through the doctrines, 00:31:17.34\00:31:19.51 we're actually preparing a new next course for spring 00:31:19.54\00:31:22.51 which is gonna be Amazing Sanctuary. 00:31:22.54\00:31:23.88 So it's a whole course on the sanctuary. 00:31:23.91\00:31:25.51 And so, we wanna help them 00:31:25.55\00:31:26.88 not only to know the strategies 00:31:26.92\00:31:28.25 but also to have the information, 00:31:28.28\00:31:29.62 how to confront, how to, 00:31:29.65\00:31:31.55 you know, when people come up with questions, 00:31:31.59\00:31:33.69 how to read objections, 00:31:33.72\00:31:35.06 how to understand our teachings better 00:31:35.09\00:31:36.42 so the idea is so that they can power themselves 00:31:36.46\00:31:40.86 and go out and become amazing disciples 00:31:40.90\00:31:42.90 and help others to become amazing disciples. 00:31:42.93\00:31:44.60 So, Carlos, you think everybody here 00:31:44.63\00:31:47.14 could actually enroll in the course online? 00:31:47.17\00:31:51.27 Everybody that has internet access 00:31:51.31\00:31:54.54 can enroll on the course, exactly. 00:31:54.58\00:31:55.91 Oh, excellent. 00:31:55.94\00:31:57.28 So we have for example, we have students 00:31:57.31\00:31:59.38 from six of the seven continents 00:31:59.41\00:32:01.02 on the earth. 00:32:01.05\00:32:02.38 All countries, and we have almost 00:32:02.42\00:32:05.45 a 1000 students enrolled 00:32:05.49\00:32:07.26 in our course from last year and it's just continues, 00:32:07.29\00:32:09.72 I mean every day I get emails of people 00:32:09.76\00:32:11.19 that are enrolling and people that are wanting 00:32:11.23\00:32:13.16 to get involved and also, you know, 00:32:13.19\00:32:15.33 it's good to know next we are planning 00:32:15.36\00:32:17.10 on bringing our onsite course 00:32:17.13\00:32:18.47 back on campus again when we, 00:32:18.50\00:32:20.74 through our new building projects 00:32:20.77\00:32:22.10 and so a lot of fun and exciting things. 00:32:22.14\00:32:24.91 So I'm curious how did you become involved 00:32:24.94\00:32:27.34 in Amazing Facts? 00:32:27.38\00:32:28.84 I became involved 10 years ago, 00:32:28.88\00:32:30.45 I became baptized as the Seventh-day Adventist. 00:32:30.48\00:32:33.08 Five years later, I decided to go to AFCOE. 00:32:33.11\00:32:36.38 In 2003, I graduated AFCOE, 00:32:36.42\00:32:38.09 and then I got the call to become an evangelist 00:32:38.12\00:32:40.36 for the ministry, and then this year 00:32:40.39\00:32:42.22 I'm fresh out of the oven. 00:32:42.26\00:32:43.73 I'm the new AFCOE director for the ministry, so. 00:32:43.76\00:32:45.26 Excellent. 00:32:45.29\00:32:46.63 Well, Carlos, we are praying the God 00:32:46.66\00:32:48.36 will shower his blessings on us 00:32:48.40\00:32:50.50 so that we can support this online course 00:32:50.53\00:32:53.27 that we wanna take advantage of. 00:32:53.30\00:32:54.64 Thank you very much. 00:33:30.24\00:33:32.81 There's new stuff happening all the time? 00:33:32.84\00:33:34.71 All the time and I say praise the Lord. 00:33:34.74\00:33:37.21 This is 34 years of going to ASI 00:33:37.25\00:33:41.88 and being a part of it. 00:33:41.92\00:33:43.35 Last year I was this time 00:33:43.39\00:33:44.72 I was in bed with open heart surgery. 00:33:44.75\00:33:47.46 God has blessed, 00:33:47.49\00:33:48.82 I'm still on my feet going forward, 00:33:48.86\00:33:50.53 but so many things are happening. 00:33:50.56\00:33:52.19 It's amazing that 3ABN 00:33:52.23\00:33:54.43 has been reaching satellites around the world, 00:33:54.46\00:33:56.63 we're on, you know, 00:33:56.67\00:33:58.00 all the cables stations and dish network, 00:33:58.03\00:34:00.17 but what's really been growing 00:34:00.20\00:34:01.94 is the social media as many of you know. 00:34:01.97\00:34:04.77 But I was amazed at the figure that Moses Primo, 00:34:04.81\00:34:07.51 our Director of Broadcasting just gave us for last month, 00:34:07.54\00:34:11.01 I think the month of June actually that Roku, 00:34:11.05\00:34:14.22 anybody here watch 3ABN on Roku? 00:34:14.25\00:34:16.55 Okay, quite a few hands. 00:34:16.58\00:34:18.29 I want you to listen to this figure. 00:34:18.32\00:34:20.92 The month of June 00:34:20.96\00:34:22.69 there were 3.8 million hours 00:34:22.72\00:34:27.23 viewed on 3ABN's 8 channels on just Roku alone. 00:34:27.26\00:34:33.10 Almost 4 million hours 00:34:33.13\00:34:35.44 were watched in one month, I had no idea. 00:34:35.47\00:34:38.21 The reason I want to find out as our streaming cost, Debbie, 00:34:38.24\00:34:41.51 began to go up and up and more from a few thousand 00:34:41.54\00:34:45.11 to many thousands like this is more than 00:34:45.15\00:34:47.15 we pay for some of the satellites, 00:34:47.18\00:34:48.95 but that tells you that God is alive, 00:34:48.98\00:34:51.35 He's on the throne. 00:34:51.39\00:34:52.95 But our commitment has been 00:34:52.99\00:34:55.12 the three angels' messages last year, 00:34:55.16\00:34:56.93 last fall our camp meeting. 00:34:56.96\00:34:58.49 The three angel's messages, if they were ever needed, 00:34:58.53\00:35:01.76 it's now, the world needs to hear about them. 00:35:01.80\00:35:03.57 This past camp meeting was the Ten Commandments. 00:35:03.60\00:35:06.90 If they're ever needed, it's now. 00:35:06.94\00:35:08.54 All you have to do is look around, 00:35:08.57\00:35:09.90 you turn on the news, 00:35:09.94\00:35:11.27 listen to all the politicians in the world 00:35:11.31\00:35:13.41 and you're gonna find out things are in a mess. 00:35:13.44\00:35:15.58 There's only one answer for this world's problems 00:35:15.61\00:35:18.21 and we as Seventh-day Adventists 00:35:18.25\00:35:20.12 have the privilege and the responsibility 00:35:20.15\00:35:22.75 of taking an undiluted three angels' messages, 00:35:22.78\00:35:25.62 one that would counteract 00:35:25.65\00:35:26.99 the counterfeit into all the world. 00:35:27.02\00:35:28.86 So what I've seen, Debbie, 00:35:28.89\00:35:30.43 as long as we continue to focus on the message. 00:35:30.46\00:35:33.36 Now the enemy is out there, 00:35:33.40\00:35:34.80 he's gonna try to do all that he can, 00:35:34.83\00:35:36.56 but you know God is bigger than the enemy. 00:35:36.60\00:35:38.80 So we're going forward. 00:35:38.83\00:35:40.17 What are we trying do?
