Well, Pastor Mercado, 00:00:19.35\00:00:21.78 this is a much bigger crowd than 00:00:21.82\00:00:23.32 we see at our spring fellowship in the Lake Union. 00:00:23.35\00:00:27.02 Oh, it sure is. 00:00:27.06\00:00:28.39 But I tell you this, I feel a lift being here. 00:00:28.42\00:00:31.56 I just praise the Lord for the privilege 00:00:31.59\00:00:33.26 we have to be here today because we know God is here. 00:00:33.29\00:00:35.90 What do you say? 00:00:35.93\00:00:37.27 Amen. Amen. 00:00:37.30\00:00:38.63 So we praise the Lord for that. 00:00:38.67\00:00:40.00 Praise the Lord. Amen. 00:00:40.04\00:00:41.37 And the crowd looks big, but it looks very friendly. 00:00:41.40\00:00:43.81 I don't see the ladies with those contemporary hat on, 00:00:43.84\00:00:46.44 but I'm so glad that they're all here 00:00:46.47\00:00:48.81 and I'm going to ask them to stand as we join with you 00:00:48.84\00:00:53.42 for the opening prayer for this beautiful session. 00:00:53.45\00:00:56.05 Can you stand, please, as we offer the opening prayer? 00:00:56.08\00:00:58.55 Our Father, we're so grateful and thankful 00:01:02.46\00:01:04.46 we have to be here. 00:01:04.49\00:01:06.26 We're so grateful for the privilege 00:01:06.29\00:01:07.63 we have to be here today. 00:01:07.66\00:01:09.26 And this special occasion, Lord, 00:01:09.30\00:01:10.63 we have another session of ASI National. 00:01:10.67\00:01:13.27 We just pray for Your Holy Spirit to be with us, 00:01:13.30\00:01:15.70 to guide us. 00:01:15.74\00:01:17.07 We may feel Your spirit as we hear the stories 00:01:17.11\00:01:20.48 and we hear the miracles that You are working. 00:01:20.51\00:01:22.51 Amen. That they be... 00:01:22.54\00:01:23.88 This event and this meeting today 00:01:23.91\00:01:26.75 will affirm to us the reality that our God lives, 00:01:26.78\00:01:30.05 our God is real, and our God loves. 00:01:30.09\00:01:31.89 Amen. 00:01:31.92\00:01:33.25 So we're thankful for Your grace. 00:01:33.29\00:01:34.62 And we pray, Lord, 00:01:34.66\00:01:35.99 for Your Holy Spirit to be with us 00:01:36.02\00:01:37.36 in all that we say and do, 00:01:37.39\00:01:38.99 this we ask in Your precious and wonderful name, Amen. 00:01:39.03\00:01:41.86 Amen. 00:01:41.90\00:01:43.23 Thank you so much. You may be seated. 00:01:43.26\00:01:44.60 I wonder what James White would think about 00:01:50.01\00:01:53.44 the Adventist Review today. 00:01:53.48\00:01:56.54 And I ask that because the more I learn about James White, 00:01:56.58\00:01:59.58 the more I realize 00:01:59.61\00:02:01.08 this young man was an innovator, 00:02:01.12\00:02:04.45 a disrupter to the extreme. 00:02:04.49\00:02:08.69 And he had to have that courage to look for new technologies, 00:02:08.72\00:02:12.96 new ways to get this message, that he fell in love with, 00:02:12.99\00:02:17.17 out to the world. 00:02:17.20\00:02:19.10 And so we ask that question sometimes 00:02:19.13\00:02:22.07 of are we doing perhaps what James White 00:02:22.10\00:02:25.17 would be thinking on that bleeding edge 00:02:25.21\00:02:27.34 of technology and ideas. 00:02:27.38\00:02:30.08 And so some of the ways in which we're doing that, 00:02:30.11\00:02:32.31 one of them you'll see on the screen now, 00:02:32.35\00:02:34.32 is a virtual reality experience of David and Goliath. 00:02:34.35\00:02:39.52 We're excited to be sharing it with some of you 00:02:39.55\00:02:42.26 if you come by our booth here at ASI. 00:02:42.29\00:02:44.63 But we're really excited to share 00:02:44.66\00:02:45.99 it with the Pathfinders next weekend 00:02:46.03\00:02:48.03 starting in Oshkosh. 00:02:48.06\00:02:50.73 But that's not the only thing we're up to. 00:02:50.77\00:02:52.53 We're also up to on-demand video content. 00:02:52.57\00:02:56.64 We've got nearly 1,000 pieces of content, 00:02:56.67\00:02:59.44 Adventist valued content on an on-demand video platform 00:02:59.47\00:03:04.18 that we invite you to check out on any of the app stores. 00:03:04.21\00:03:06.85 We have a weekly show that has just come out 00:03:06.88\00:03:08.72 with Cliff Goldstein and Dwain Esmond talking about 00:03:08.75\00:03:11.82 issues that are current and relevant to us today. 00:03:11.85\00:03:16.02 And last but not least, we're working on some exciting 00:03:16.06\00:03:18.56 podcasts to continue to reach people 00:03:18.59\00:03:21.13 in the most effective way 00:03:21.16\00:03:22.80 that they would like to consume content. 00:03:22.83\00:03:25.07 But the thing that we've been up to for 170 years, 00:03:25.10\00:03:29.20 I'm gonna ask Costin to share it with you. 00:03:29.24\00:03:31.37 And you might not associate this with Adventist Review, 00:03:31.41\00:03:34.18 but it is news. 00:03:34.21\00:03:36.85 One way that we're living up to the vision of James White 00:03:36.88\00:03:39.71 is that for 170 years, 00:03:39.75\00:03:41.78 we have been the primary distributor 00:03:41.82\00:03:44.15 of Adventist news around the world. 00:03:44.19\00:03:46.76 In fact, last year, we wrote and distributed over 00:03:46.79\00:03:50.43 700 news stories covering 101 countries. 00:03:50.46\00:03:55.90 So we are really thrilled to invite you to join us 00:03:55.93\00:04:00.00 to continue finding out 00:04:00.04\00:04:01.84 what's happening around the world. 00:04:01.87\00:04:04.17 And we sometimes tackle some challenging subjects. 00:04:04.21\00:04:07.08 We just wrote a story coming out 00:04:07.11\00:04:09.38 of the Third Lifestyle and Health Global Conference 00:04:09.41\00:04:13.78 in Loma Linda called "Adventists still live longer, 00:04:13.82\00:04:18.65 but not all Adventists are the same," right? 00:04:18.69\00:04:22.09 So some Adventists fall into the category 00:04:22.12\00:04:24.09 of living longer, unfortunately, some don't. 00:04:24.13\00:04:26.39 So we tackle that subject. 00:04:26.43\00:04:28.46 So we invite you to join us on this journey 00:04:28.50\00:04:31.60 to discover more about Adventists around the world. 00:04:31.63\00:04:34.24 And together, 00:04:34.27\00:04:35.60 with the General Conference Office of Communication, 00:04:35.64\00:04:37.91 we hope very much to unveil very soon 00:04:37.94\00:04:40.44 a global infrastructure that will allow us 00:04:40.48\00:04:43.95 to distribute news around the world 00:04:43.98\00:04:46.41 in a collaborative fashion much faster 00:04:46.45\00:04:48.95 than we've done in the past and in multiple languages 00:04:48.98\00:04:52.69 all around the world. 00:04:52.72\00:04:54.06 So that's coming. 00:04:54.09\00:04:55.42 Join us on AdventistReview.org, 00:04:55.46\00:04:56.83 AdventistWorld.org for more news 00:04:56.86\00:04:58.99 from around the world. 00:04:59.03\00:05:02.03 For many of you, 00:05:02.06\00:05:03.70 Adventist Review and now Adventist World, 00:05:03.73\00:05:06.37 for the last 14 years have been a big part of your life. 00:05:06.40\00:05:11.14 But we realize as communicators that you have to make 00:05:11.17\00:05:14.24 your messages clear, direct, 00:05:14.28\00:05:16.08 and simple if they're going to be understood 00:05:16.11\00:05:18.48 in a very confused media environment. 00:05:18.51\00:05:20.95 And so we made a decision earlier this year 00:05:20.98\00:05:22.98 that across all our platforms, Adventist World, 00:05:23.02\00:05:26.82 Adventist Review, KidsView, podcasts, television on demand, 00:05:26.86\00:05:32.13 all of our print resources, 00:05:32.16\00:05:34.40 all of those are going to focus on a single theme each month. 00:05:34.43\00:05:37.97 That theme The Church I Want to Belong to Is, 00:05:38.00\00:05:42.07 and every month, 00:05:42.10\00:05:43.44 a descriptive word will be in there. 00:05:43.47\00:05:45.44 July's was The Church I Want to Belong to Is Healthy, 00:05:45.47\00:05:48.74 and it focused on both personal health 00:05:48.78\00:05:51.21 and congregational health. 00:05:51.25\00:05:53.82 August, the copy that you see in your delegate bag here, 00:05:53.85\00:05:58.32 The Church I Want to Belong to Is Courageous. 00:05:58.35\00:06:00.96 What does it mean to be a courageous church 00:06:00.99\00:06:03.43 in the 21st century? 00:06:03.46\00:06:05.29 And when you come to September, 00:06:05.33\00:06:06.66 The Church I Want to Belong to Is Safe. 00:06:06.70\00:06:10.43 What is the safe church? 00:06:10.47\00:06:13.10 I convened a group of top General Conference 00:06:13.13\00:06:16.00 departmental directors six weeks ago 00:06:16.04\00:06:18.97 for a video conversation. 00:06:19.01\00:06:20.34 You're gonna find on our site and you'll find that article 00:06:20.38\00:06:23.38 featured in our print editions as well. 00:06:23.41\00:06:26.45 Listening to persons from family ministries, 00:06:26.48\00:06:28.72 health ministries, ministerial, and Adventist Review, 00:06:28.75\00:06:32.82 and legal talking about 00:06:32.85\00:06:34.49 how do we create safe church environments. 00:06:34.52\00:06:37.09 Not just physically safe but safe for the individual 00:06:37.13\00:06:40.40 who's broken, the person who needs help. 00:06:40.43\00:06:43.47 We're in a dynamic environment that we invite you to join us 00:06:43.50\00:06:46.30 on as we continued to be both the oldest thing 00:06:46.33\00:06:50.27 and the newest thing in Adventism. 00:06:50.31\00:06:52.41 Christiane is joining me tonight. 00:06:55.91\00:06:57.41 Christiane, where do you come from? All right. 00:09:04.91\00:09:08.34 You know, sometimes we make the mistake of actually 00:09:08.38\00:09:10.35 believing we know where we're heading 00:09:10.38\00:09:12.98 without seeking after the proper advice. 00:09:13.01\00:09:15.55 Come join at Think Tank with a purpose, a mission. 00:09:15.58\00:09:18.85 You may actually find some clarity. 00:09:18.89\00:09:20.89 I'll see you there. 00:09:20.92\00:09:22.52 O the deep 00:09:34.97\00:09:37.91 deep love of Jesus 00:09:37.94\00:09:43.61 Vast, unmeasured 00:09:43.65\00:09:48.05 Boundless, free 00:09:48.08\00:09:52.42 Rolling 00:09:52.45\00:09:53.79 As a mighty ocean 00:09:53.82\00:10:00.80 In its fullness 00:10:00.83\00:10:05.00 Over me 00:10:05.03\00:10:10.97 Underneath me 00:10:11.01\00:10:15.21 All around me 00:10:15.24\00:10:19.48 He is the current 00:10:19.51\00:10:23.69 Of His love 00:10:23.72\00:10:27.92 Leading onward 00:10:27.96\00:10:32.19 Leading homeward 00:10:32.23\00:10:36.63 To thy glorious 00:10:36.67\00:10:40.94 Rest above 00:10:40.97\00:10:46.41 O the deep 00:11:04.66\00:11:07.50 Deep love of Jesus 00:11:07.53\00:11:12.80 'Tis heaven 00:11:12.83\00:11:17.11 Of heavens to me 00:11:17.14\00:11:21.21 And it lifts me 00:11:21.24\00:11:25.65 Up to glory 00:11:25.68\00:11:29.88 For it lifts me 00:11:29.92\00:11:34.22 Up to thee 00:11:34.26\00:11:40.46 O the deep 00:11:40.50\00:11:43.37 Deep love of Jesus 00:11:43.40\00:11:49.37 Spread His praise from shore 00:11:49.40\00:11:54.88 To shore 00:11:54.91\00:11:58.28 How he loveth 00:11:58.31\00:12:02.62 Ever loveth 00:12:02.65\00:12:06.89 Changeth never 00:12:06.92\00:12:11.46 Nevermore 00:12:11.49\00:12:17.20 Good evening, ASI. 00:12:22.80\00:12:25.01 We're happy to be here this evening. 00:12:25.04\00:12:26.68 Good evening, everyone. 00:12:26.71\00:12:28.41 We're glad that you've come out. 00:12:28.44\00:12:30.48 We're glad that you're here to hear 00:12:30.51\00:12:32.08 how people are sharing Christ 00:12:32.11\00:12:34.48 and different ministry opportunities that we have. 00:12:34.52\00:12:37.45 So we have three people that are gonna 00:12:37.49\00:12:38.89 share this evening. 00:12:38.92\00:12:40.26 We're glad that you've joined us, 00:12:40.29\00:12:41.62 each of you. 00:12:41.66\00:12:42.99 Thank you very much. 00:12:43.02\00:12:44.36 We have Johnny, we have Jesse, 00:12:44.39\00:12:45.73 and we have Jim Burr as well with us. 00:12:45.76\00:12:47.66 So thank you so much for being here this evening. 00:12:47.70\00:12:50.27 And we'd like to get right into it 00:12:50.30\00:12:52.80 and talk to Johnny Suarez a little bit about Pan De Vida. 00:12:52.83\00:12:57.41 So could you tell us a little bit about 00:12:57.44\00:12:59.34 what the ministry is all about? 00:12:59.37\00:13:00.94 Sure. 00:13:00.98\00:13:02.44 I've been a member of ASI for 11 years, 2008. 00:13:02.48\00:13:05.88 This is the first time I share a little bit about what we do. 00:13:05.91\00:13:09.32 We started a little group called GYC. 00:13:09.35\00:13:11.59 Some of you may be acquainted with that in 2002. 00:13:11.62\00:13:14.32 And that's kind of 00:13:14.36\00:13:15.69 how I became familiarized with ASI. 00:13:15.72\00:13:19.29 And we started a multimedia company 00:13:19.33\00:13:21.16 called Pan De Vida Productions, 00:13:21.20\00:13:22.53 where we would license material 00:13:22.56\00:13:23.93 from a variety of Adventist speakers, 00:13:23.97\00:13:26.10 Pastor David Asscherick, Henry Wright, 00:13:26.13\00:13:28.64 and also Alejandro BullA n. 00:13:28.67\00:13:30.57 And that's how we began producing multimedia materials 00:13:30.61\00:13:33.11 in audio, and video, and print. 00:13:33.14\00:13:34.68 And then from there, 00:13:34.71\00:13:36.04 we started doing some distribution elsewhere. 00:13:36.08\00:13:37.41 Wonderful. 00:13:37.45\00:13:38.78 So were you connected with ASI right in the very beginning 00:13:38.81\00:13:40.88 of your ministry when you started? 00:13:40.92\00:13:42.38 Not initially. 00:13:42.42\00:13:43.75 It wasn't until 2008 that we started seeing 00:13:43.79\00:13:45.55 the possibilities of networking with other organizations 00:13:45.59\00:13:47.66 that were doing similar things. 00:13:47.69\00:13:49.32 And we thought, "Well, let's go ahead and join them 00:13:49.36\00:13:51.49 and figure out how we can communicate 00:13:51.53\00:13:53.16 the gospel of Jesus Christ through multimedia." 00:13:53.19\00:13:55.66 And that's kind of how we began. 00:13:55.70\00:13:57.03 Wonderful. 00:13:57.07\00:13:58.40 Okay, so you made a connection with ASI and GYC as well 00:13:58.43\00:14:01.10 and kind of even helping to start that organization. 00:14:01.14\00:14:03.97 That's right. 00:14:04.01\00:14:05.34 So tell us a little bit because my understanding 00:14:05.37\00:14:07.78 is that people seem to be reading a little bit less, 00:14:07.81\00:14:10.48 there may be also... 00:14:10.51\00:14:11.85 There's so many media choices out there today 00:14:11.88\00:14:13.48 that it's sometimes hard for people to know, how to, 00:14:13.52\00:14:16.48 what to choose. 00:14:16.52\00:14:17.85 How did you find your niche? 00:14:17.89\00:14:19.22 Yeah, so it's very interesting. 00:14:19.25\00:14:20.59 You know, people are reading a lot less like you said, 00:14:20.62\00:14:23.02 you have Hulu, you have Netflix, you have, 00:14:23.06\00:14:25.49 you know, YouTube. 00:14:25.53\00:14:26.86 So we thought to ourselves, "What can we do to perhaps 00:14:26.90\00:14:29.66 stay along the same line of what we're already doing 00:14:29.70\00:14:31.47 but maybe make it differently?" 00:14:31.50\00:14:33.94 And so the idea was, why don't we take them 00:14:33.97\00:14:35.90 to the very places that the preachers talk about? 00:14:35.94\00:14:38.27 So maybe we can go over to Rome if we talk about the Romans, 00:14:38.31\00:14:41.94 maybe we can go over to the area of the Waldensians. 00:14:41.98\00:14:44.51 So we decided to create these faith based excursions, 00:14:44.55\00:14:47.72 and tours, and travel. 00:14:47.75\00:14:49.88 And we thought to ourselves, "How nice would it be?" 00:14:49.92\00:14:51.82 For example, we go to Rome and we go to the Catacombs 00:14:51.85\00:14:54.16 and we'll also visit the Mamertine Prison. 00:14:54.19\00:14:56.32 So we'll go down into the dungeon cell 00:14:56.36\00:14:57.73 and we'll imagine what it would have been like 00:14:57.76\00:14:59.46 for Paul to have his hands tied, his feet shackled, 00:14:59.49\00:15:02.76 the stench of human waste all around him. 00:15:02.80\00:15:04.93 And a Roman guard standing at attention waiting 00:15:04.97\00:15:06.80 for the call to take him out and cut off his head. 00:15:06.84\00:15:09.74 And yet he's writing to the people in Ephesus 00:15:09.77\00:15:11.27 and he says things like, 00:15:11.31\00:15:13.14 "We are seated in heavenly places with God." 00:15:13.17\00:15:16.41 How can a man say 00:15:16.44\00:15:17.78 that he's seated in heavenly places 00:15:17.81\00:15:19.15 with God when he's about to lose his head? 00:15:19.18\00:15:21.65 Well, he had hope in something bigger, 00:15:21.68\00:15:23.82 and better, and bolder, 00:15:23.85\00:15:25.19 and more beautiful that God had in store with him. 00:15:25.22\00:15:27.36 So taking people to these sites makes them re-experience 00:15:27.39\00:15:30.73 those things in a way that perhaps 00:15:30.76\00:15:32.09 they've never done before. 00:15:32.13\00:15:33.46 So that's very interesting. 00:15:33.50\00:15:34.83 So at the beginning, you were kind of saying 00:15:34.86\00:15:36.36 that you're doing productions here, 00:15:36.40\00:15:37.73 but now you're mentioning the fact 00:15:37.77\00:15:39.13 that you're actually bringing people to these sites. 00:15:39.17\00:15:41.60 So how did that all come about? 00:15:41.64\00:15:43.20 And what are you... 00:15:43.24\00:15:44.57 How does that actually play into your ministry now? 00:15:44.61\00:15:46.61 That's a great question. 00:15:46.64\00:15:47.98 So many of the people that come with us are not 00:15:48.01\00:15:50.68 Seventh-day Adventist Christians, right? 00:15:50.71\00:15:52.05 Okay. 00:15:52.08\00:15:53.42 So we have some people that are coming 00:15:53.45\00:15:54.78 that are Baptists, that are Methodists. 00:15:54.82\00:15:56.65 A couple months ago, we have a registration form 00:15:56.69\00:15:58.75 and we received the register form for two people 00:15:58.79\00:16:00.79 that wanted to go on our tours. 00:16:00.82\00:16:02.52 And they put in, they're atheists 00:16:02.56\00:16:04.56 and then the spouse said Buddhist. 00:16:04.59\00:16:06.73 And we thought to ourselves, "What? 00:16:06.76\00:16:08.10 This is really strange." 00:16:08.13\00:16:09.53 Normally, people spend money trying 00:16:09.56\00:16:12.73 to have evangelistic crusades and paying thousands of dollars 00:16:12.77\00:16:15.14 to try to bring people to church. 00:16:15.17\00:16:16.74 But here are two people who are giving us the funds 00:16:16.77\00:16:19.94 for two weeks for us to preach them the gospel 00:16:19.97\00:16:22.01 and tell them about Jesus Christ. 00:16:22.04\00:16:23.38 We thought, "Wow! 00:16:23.41\00:16:24.75 This is an amazing opportunity to tell people 00:16:24.78\00:16:27.08 about the story of Christianity in a winsome way." 00:16:27.12\00:16:29.75 And this is because friends, families, and even neighbors. 00:16:29.78\00:16:32.59 We've met Seventh-day Adventists 00:16:32.62\00:16:34.42 who bring their neighbors who are not Christians and say, 00:16:34.46\00:16:37.19 "I don't want to go to your church, 00:16:37.23\00:16:38.56 I don't want Bible studies, 00:16:38.59\00:16:39.93 but I would love to go to Europe. 00:16:39.96\00:16:41.30 And I'll go with you because you seem like 00:16:41.33\00:16:42.66 a nice guy." 00:16:42.70\00:16:44.03 And there's an opportunity for soul winning, 00:16:44.07\00:16:45.60 for evangelism, and for sharing the gospel. 00:16:45.63\00:16:47.10 Absolutely. 00:16:47.14\00:16:48.47 And when people invest in something they value 00:16:48.50\00:16:50.24 what they've invested in as well, 00:16:50.27\00:16:51.81 so that makes an impact on them spiritually. 00:16:51.84\00:16:54.14 That's wonderful. Absolutely. 00:16:54.18\00:16:55.58 What about millennials? 00:16:55.61\00:16:57.48 We've heard that millennials actually are more interested 00:16:57.51\00:17:02.08 in the experiences that they can have rather than 00:17:02.12\00:17:05.29 maybe being so interested in material things. 00:17:05.32\00:17:07.92 Tell us a little bit more about that phenomenon 00:17:07.96\00:17:11.13 and how your ministry reaches out to that need. 00:17:11.16\00:17:15.06 Great question. 00:17:15.10\00:17:16.43 So there's this thing, some of you may have heard, 00:17:16.46\00:17:17.80 it's called FOMO, fear of missing out. 00:17:17.83\00:17:21.07 And they're finding all this interesting statistics 00:17:21.10\00:17:23.00 where young people are more interested 00:17:23.04\00:17:25.64 in experiences than actual material goods. 00:17:25.67\00:17:28.24 And that seems a little strange and counterintuitive 00:17:28.28\00:17:30.78 to what we think millennials want. 00:17:30.81\00:17:33.28 But we're finding that it is better for them 00:17:33.31\00:17:35.48 and they're happier when they go to the places 00:17:35.52\00:17:38.12 that you talk about as opposed to just giving them 00:17:38.15\00:17:40.46 material possessions. 00:17:40.49\00:17:41.99 So one of the things that we're doing at Pan De Vida 00:17:42.02\00:17:43.73 is we're creating tours and excursions 00:17:43.76\00:17:46.39 for people to go, particularly our young people 00:17:46.43\00:17:48.73 to become familiarized and acquainted 00:17:48.76\00:17:51.13 with the truth of the Bible. 00:17:51.17\00:17:52.73 And all of our tours, we use the Bible 00:17:52.77\00:17:54.14 and the Spirit of Prophecy, 00:17:54.17\00:17:55.50 the first 12 chapters of the book, 00:17:55.54\00:17:56.87 Great Controversy, for them to visit those sites. 00:17:56.91\00:17:59.41 And now be able to forge an identity with who they are 00:17:59.44\00:18:02.78 as Seventh-day Adventist Christians 00:18:02.81\00:18:04.51 and who they are as Bible believing 00:18:04.55\00:18:06.61 followers of Jesus Christ. 00:18:06.65\00:18:08.05 Wonderful. 00:18:08.08\00:18:09.42 So how can people get involved in helping your ministry 00:18:09.45\00:18:12.75 or in collaborating with your ministry? 00:18:12.79\00:18:15.09 So there's a few things you can do. 00:18:15.12\00:18:16.59 Number one, you can swing by our booth, 00:18:16.62\00:18:17.99 we're in booth 735. 00:18:18.03\00:18:19.89 So if you're over there by the booth area, 00:18:19.93\00:18:21.60 please feel free to swing by. 00:18:21.63\00:18:23.83 Number two, you can pray for us. 00:18:23.87\00:18:25.30 Keep us in your prayers. 00:18:25.33\00:18:26.87 Number three, we have many adults, 00:18:26.90\00:18:29.64 some that are a little bit better off financially, 00:18:29.67\00:18:31.97 who sponsor young people. 00:18:32.01\00:18:33.58 We're offering matching funds from Pan De Vida 00:18:33.61\00:18:36.41 to keep those costs at a very reasonable amount. 00:18:36.44\00:18:38.91 And they can invite those friends 00:18:38.95\00:18:40.85 and particularly those young people, 00:18:40.88\00:18:42.22 those millennials that perhaps otherwise wouldn't go 00:18:42.25\00:18:44.95 to be able to join us on these trips. 00:18:44.99\00:18:46.79 We invite you to come, we're in booth 735, 00:18:46.82\00:18:49.32 and we hope that you can be a part of that as well. 00:18:49.36\00:18:51.66 Okay. Wonderful. 00:18:51.69\00:18:53.03 Thank you so much for sharing. 00:18:53.06\00:18:54.40 We appreciate you being here with us this evening. 00:18:54.43\00:18:57.63 So I am very excited that you're here, Jim Burr, 00:18:57.67\00:19:01.24 because I actually went to school with your son 00:19:01.27\00:19:03.71 here back in Oklahoma Academy, a long time ago. 00:19:03.74\00:19:06.27 Wow. 00:19:06.31\00:19:07.64 And so it's nice to be with you here on the stage 00:19:07.68\00:19:10.05 and to be able to share 00:19:10.08\00:19:11.41 some of the ways that you've reached out. 00:19:11.45\00:19:14.62 And I think what's really exciting about 00:19:14.65\00:19:17.15 meeting with you and discussing with you 00:19:17.19\00:19:18.99 is how you look for all kinds of different ways 00:19:19.02\00:19:21.22 to share the gospel, 00:19:21.26\00:19:22.86 share science from a creation perspective 00:19:22.89\00:19:26.33 with people that you meet. 00:19:26.36\00:19:28.16 Yes, I try to pray before I get on an airplane. 00:19:28.20\00:19:30.33 Lord, is there somebody here you want me to visit with? 00:19:30.37\00:19:33.10 I was traveling to Atlanta, that's three hours. 00:19:33.13\00:19:34.97 And the lady next to me is a doctor. 00:19:35.00\00:19:37.04 And I've got my telescope, 00:19:37.07\00:19:38.81 my computer out with astronomy pictures, 00:19:38.84\00:19:40.58 and people will pick up on that, 00:19:40.61\00:19:41.94 and she starts commenting or questioning 00:19:41.98\00:19:43.61 and what's this about. 00:19:43.65\00:19:44.98 And I started sharing little tidbits of God, 00:19:45.01\00:19:47.02 and the heaven's with her, and then she says, 00:19:47.05\00:19:49.58 "You know, I haven't been a good mother. 00:19:49.62\00:19:51.22 I did not teach my two sons about God." 00:19:51.25\00:19:54.59 And I said to her, "Well, you know what? 00:19:54.62\00:19:56.32 I've got this little Bible study 00:19:56.36\00:19:57.86 from United Prison Ministries. 00:19:57.89\00:20:00.23 There are 25 Bible lessons you can teach your sons here." 00:20:00.26\00:20:04.37 And I gave her a video on Daniel 2 00:20:04.40\00:20:06.13 and I gave her 4 programs on astronomy, 00:20:06.17\00:20:08.27 half-hour programs. 00:20:08.30\00:20:09.67 This lady said, 00:20:09.70\00:20:11.04 "I think God wanted me sit next to you on the plane." 00:20:11.07\00:20:13.21 That's thrilling. This is almost two years old. 00:21:29.02\00:21:32.05 This year, I said, I'm gonna count how many... 00:21:32.09\00:21:33.66 I don't have no idea. 00:21:33.69\00:21:35.02 Lord only knows how many he gave away 00:21:35.06\00:21:36.39 this year. 00:21:36.42\00:21:37.76 He's already given them 90 of these this week. 00:21:37.79\00:21:39.43 And the pastor's on the back, 00:21:39.46\00:21:40.80 you need a prayer from the pastor, 00:21:40.83\00:21:42.23 if you need an answer from the pastor. 00:21:42.26\00:21:43.87 And so that's just exciting stuff. 00:21:43.90\00:21:45.23 Wonderful. 00:21:45.27\00:21:46.60 Why don't you tell us about when you had the opportunity 00:21:46.63\00:21:48.67 to be the keynote speaker of ASI over in Russia 00:21:48.70\00:21:52.04 and tell us about an experience you had on a plane there? 00:21:52.07\00:21:54.71 About a year and a half ago, 00:21:54.74\00:21:56.08 I was speaking as a keynote speaker at ASI. 00:21:56.11\00:21:57.65 We did 10 one-hour shows at ASI Russia. 00:21:57.68\00:22:00.08 3ABN was aired and recorded, broadcast. 00:22:00.12\00:22:01.95 They said 300 million Russians can watch that. 00:22:01.98\00:22:05.29 Well, coming home from Russia, I am on a plane. 00:22:05.32\00:22:07.56 Now the Lord, you know, I mean, 00:22:07.59\00:22:09.52 Delta tells who you're gonna sit by, 00:22:09.56\00:22:11.06 but I think the Lord overrules. 00:22:11.09\00:22:12.43 He overrules. 00:22:12.46\00:22:13.96 Turns out, I'm sitting by this high fashion model. 00:22:14.00\00:22:16.53 She's like high. 00:22:16.56\00:22:18.63 Before we even get to move, barely get our seatbelts on, 00:22:18.67\00:22:21.50 she says, "How old are you?" 00:22:21.54\00:22:23.44 And I go, like in perfect English, 00:22:23.47\00:22:25.11 "How old are you?" 00:22:25.14\00:22:26.47 I said, "I'm 80 years old." 00:22:26.51\00:22:27.84 She goes like, "What are you doing in Russia?" 00:22:27.88\00:22:29.54 I said, "Well, I'm here talking about astronomy in the Bible." 00:22:29.58\00:22:31.88 Then next words out of her mouth. 00:22:31.91\00:22:33.31 She says, 00:22:33.35\00:22:35.18 "I just wasn't gonna last 50 years." 00:22:35.22\00:22:37.69 And we start going through last day events, 00:22:37.72\00:22:39.42 we go through Matthew 24. 00:22:39.45\00:22:41.62 And I gave her the Bible study guide, 00:22:41.66\00:22:45.86 I gave her the DVD on astronomy, 00:22:45.89\00:22:49.63 and I have this video on Hitler and Daniel 2. 00:22:49.66\00:22:54.17 And I explained to her that... 00:22:54.20\00:22:56.24 This happened in Hitler's army with his pastor Hazo. 00:22:56.27\00:22:59.87 And she said, "Oh, us Russians, 00:22:59.91\00:23:02.41 we just love learning about Hitler. 00:23:02.44\00:23:04.61 I want to give you a kiss," 00:23:04.65\00:23:05.98 and she smacked a kiss on my cheek. 00:23:06.01\00:23:07.68 It's that fast. 00:23:07.72\00:23:09.05 Now imagine an 80-year-old guy 00:23:09.08\00:23:10.42 getting a kiss on an airplane, you know? 00:23:10.45\00:23:12.09 And she was so excited to get this video. 00:23:12.12\00:23:15.22 And she says, 00:23:15.26\00:23:16.59 "I don't think your wife's gonna be jealous." 00:23:16.62\00:23:17.96 Well, you know, 00:23:17.99\00:23:19.33 that's a fascinating story for sure. 00:23:19.36\00:23:21.26 And there was another one that really fascinated me. 00:23:21.30\00:23:23.70 And that's when you had the opportunity 00:23:23.73\00:23:25.43 to explain to a science teacher about a cell 00:23:25.47\00:23:28.47 and how much information God has packed into the cell. 00:23:28.50\00:23:31.37 Tell us a little bit about that. 00:23:31.41\00:23:32.81 So I'm coming out of SeaTac, Seattle-Tacoma. 00:23:32.84\00:23:35.11 And I've got my computer out. 00:23:35.14\00:23:36.48 And the guy next to me goes like, 00:23:36.51\00:23:37.85 "Oh, you're doing a seminar. What's the seminar on?" 00:23:37.88\00:23:39.51 I say, "Well, astronomy in the Bible." 00:23:39.55\00:23:41.08 He goes like, 00:23:41.12\00:23:42.45 "How do you put the Bible with astronomy?" 00:23:42.48\00:23:44.62 And I say, "Do you believe in God?" 00:23:44.65\00:23:45.99 And he goes, like, "Yeah, you know?" 00:23:46.02\00:23:48.52 And I said, 00:23:48.56\00:23:49.89 "Well, let me show you the farthest galaxy. 00:23:49.92\00:23:51.86 Can you comprehend that 13 billion light years away? 00:23:51.89\00:23:54.30 Can you comprehend that? 00:23:54.33\00:23:55.66 Because the Bible in Psalm 103 starting verse 10 says 00:23:55.70\00:23:58.33 that as high as the heavens are, 00:23:58.37\00:23:59.70 but that's how great God's mercy is. 00:23:59.73\00:24:01.07 You cannot comprehend how great God's mercy." 00:24:01.10\00:24:03.41 And we do... It's a three-hour flight. 00:24:03.44\00:24:05.44 We do an hour and a half on astronomy. 00:24:05.47\00:24:06.91 And then I said, "Let me teach you biology." 00:24:06.94\00:24:10.08 I mean, he teaches this stuff from a biblical perspective. 00:24:10.11\00:24:11.51 Okay. Right. 00:24:11.55\00:24:12.88 And I have this pencil with a pin on. 00:24:12.91\00:24:14.95 There's this pin on top, the head of the pin. 00:24:14.98\00:24:17.12 I said, "You realize when you were conceived 00:24:17.15\00:24:18.75 you could fit on the head of that pin? 00:24:18.79\00:24:20.76 And you realize that 00:24:20.79\00:24:22.12 that little cell can copy your DNA? 00:24:22.16\00:24:24.03 In your DNA, 00:24:24.06\00:24:25.39 we have 6 billion letter codes at a keyboard 50 years. 00:24:25.43\00:24:28.66 At a keyboard for you to type out 00:24:28.70\00:24:30.13 the information in every cell is a whole lifetime, 00:24:30.17\00:24:32.63 but this cell can do it in 30 hours. 00:24:32.67\00:24:34.04 Do you see God in that? 00:24:34.07\00:24:35.47 And will you be making mistakes?" 00:24:35.50\00:24:37.07 You know, yes. 00:24:37.11\00:24:38.44 "Well, your cell does too 00:24:38.47\00:24:39.81 because we live in a polluted world, 00:24:39.84\00:24:41.18 because of free radicals, carcinogens, 00:24:41.21\00:24:42.54 you didn't sleep good, you didn't get enough exercise, 00:24:42.58\00:24:43.91 didn't had water for those reasons 00:24:43.95\00:24:46.01 your cell will make up to a million mistakes, 00:24:46.05\00:24:48.92 about 100,000 to a million mistakes, 00:24:48.95\00:24:50.62 but you got a proofreader. 00:24:50.65\00:24:52.65 Just like your computer. 00:24:52.69\00:24:54.02 You put in a wrong letter, it fixes it. 00:24:54.06\00:24:55.69 The proof is there and it's gone, 00:24:55.72\00:24:57.33 it's there and it's gone. 00:24:57.36\00:24:58.79 You forget to put a comma in it, 00:24:58.83\00:25:00.16 you see it and it's gone, right? 00:25:00.20\00:25:02.06 You got the same thing in your DNA. 00:25:02.10\00:25:03.90 Wow! Absolutely same thing. 00:25:03.93\00:25:05.33 And you have 50 genes 00:25:05.37\00:25:07.27 that are there to fix the problem, 00:25:07.30\00:25:08.64 50 genes. 00:25:08.67\00:25:10.07 And so I said to the guy, 00:25:10.11\00:25:11.44 "You realize that we got 30 hours, 00:25:11.47\00:25:12.84 but 3 things have to happen. 00:25:12.87\00:25:14.21 The cell has to copy your DNA, 00:25:14.24\00:25:15.74 the spellchecker has to go through millions of pages 00:25:15.78\00:25:18.71 to find any mistakes, 00:25:18.75\00:25:20.08 the army comes in to fix it. 00:25:20.12\00:25:21.58 When they get done, one in a billion get through. 00:25:21.62\00:25:23.89 And so in 30 hours, we have to copy it, 00:25:23.92\00:25:27.32 we have to find the problem, we have to fix the problem. 00:25:27.36\00:25:29.72 And it took your scientists 00:25:29.76\00:25:31.33 13 years with 5,000 supercomputers 00:25:31.36\00:25:34.33 to sequence the human genome, 00:25:34.36\00:25:35.86 took thousands of scientists 00:25:35.90\00:25:37.23 13 years of 5,000 supercomputers." 00:25:37.27\00:25:39.43 And this guy was like so blown away. 00:25:39.47\00:25:41.04 He knew this stuff, 00:25:41.07\00:25:42.40 he teaches this stuff, and he goes like, 00:25:42.44\00:25:43.77 "Man, I never thought about that." 00:25:43.81\00:25:45.74 Yes, amazing. 00:25:45.77\00:25:47.24 You know, you had a very interesting visit recently. 00:25:47.28\00:25:49.38 I'd like you to just close with this because, 00:25:49.41\00:25:52.11 you know, all of our children went to the Ark Encounter today 00:25:52.15\00:25:56.79 and they had a wonderful time. 00:25:56.82\00:25:58.75 The biggest wood structure in the world. 00:25:58.79\00:26:01.66 And you had the opportunity of meeting with the founder, 00:26:01.69\00:26:05.53 the one that had this idea Ken Ham. 00:26:05.56\00:26:07.83 Ken Ham. 00:26:07.86\00:26:09.20 Tell us a little bit about that, just very briefly. 00:26:09.23\00:26:10.57 Yesterday 9 o'clock, I had appointment with Ken Ham. 00:26:10.60\00:26:13.77 Two of his staff people have been calling my office 00:26:13.80\00:26:15.74 saying we're interested in the starlight work 00:26:15.77\00:26:17.74 you've done on starlight and time. 00:26:17.77\00:26:19.47 And Danny Faulkner, the chief astronomer, 00:26:19.51\00:26:21.81 at Answers in Genesis called me up. 00:26:21.84\00:26:23.45 He says, "I knew about JMI Telescope for decades. 00:26:23.48\00:26:26.11 I didn't know you're a creationist." 00:26:26.15\00:26:27.75 I said, "Not only that, I'm gonna be there Wednesday. 00:26:27.78\00:26:30.22 Well, I want to give you a tour. 00:26:30.25\00:26:31.59 You text me when you get to the gate. 00:26:31.62\00:26:33.29 I want to take you and give you a free tour of the museum." 00:26:33.32\00:26:35.66 And I said, "Text back, can I meet with Ken Ham?" 00:26:35.69\00:26:39.26 And he says, 00:26:39.29\00:26:40.63 "Nine o'clock you got an appointment with Ken." 00:26:40.66\00:26:42.13 Yesterday morning at 9 o'clock, 00:26:42.16\00:26:43.50 we spent about, 00:26:43.53\00:26:44.87 almost not quite 15 minutes with Ken Ham. 00:26:44.90\00:26:47.40 And I gave him... 00:26:47.44\00:26:49.04 And I got to shorten this, 00:26:49.07\00:26:50.41 but do you know 00:26:50.44\00:26:51.77 Ellen White has the only answer for dinosaurs? 00:26:51.81\00:26:54.78 Creationists have no answers, evolutionists have no answers. 00:26:54.81\00:26:57.81 So many questions, so many problems. 00:26:57.85\00:26:59.71 I said to Ken Ham... 00:26:59.75\00:27:01.85 The Bible says in Acts 2 and Genesis 2, 00:27:01.88\00:27:03.99 in the last days he's gonna have prophets. 00:27:04.02\00:27:05.99 I said, "Ken, look at what I found. 00:27:06.02\00:27:08.32 This little book written 133 years ago." 00:27:08.36\00:27:11.89 And I read to him what she says. 00:27:11.93\00:27:14.20 Basically, the dinosaurs were hybrids. 00:27:14.23\00:27:19.10 You know, we know what GMO is. Hybrids were GMOed. 00:27:19.13\00:27:23.24 They were genetically modified. 00:27:23.27\00:27:24.67 Lizards, alligators, ostriches, chickens, and birds, 00:27:24.71\00:27:27.38 and we can see that. 00:27:27.41\00:27:28.74 And she has the answer. 00:27:28.78\00:27:30.11 They were not in the Garden of Eden. 00:27:30.15\00:27:31.48 They were not on the Ark. 00:27:31.51\00:27:32.85 And we have a video out there in... 00:27:32.88\00:27:34.95 Brought 400 with Feed my Lambs. 00:27:38.35\00:27:40.62 We've got a video... 00:27:40.66\00:27:41.99 If you want a video on Ellen White 00:27:42.02\00:27:43.36 and the dinosaurs, you have 10 bucks, 00:27:43.39\00:27:44.73 and we got a whole box of book there. 00:27:44.76\00:27:46.09 Thank you so much for sharing. We really appreciate that. 00:27:46.13\00:27:48.76 And you'll be in our prayers as you continue to share. 00:27:48.80\00:27:50.77 Thank you. Thank you. 00:27:50.80\00:27:52.13 Jesse, we're so happy you're here this evening. 00:27:52.17\00:27:53.67 Thank you. 00:27:53.70\00:27:55.04 Jesse Zwiker is here with us. 00:27:55.07\00:27:57.37 And he has a project that's called Ellen4all. 00:27:57.41\00:28:01.04 I like that name. 00:28:01.08\00:28:02.41 In fact, that kind of give us an idea 00:28:02.44\00:28:03.81 of maybe what it's all about. 00:28:03.85\00:28:06.11 And in fact, why don't you tell us 00:28:06.15\00:28:07.52 just briefly and then we'll roll some slides 00:28:07.55\00:28:09.72 and talk about it. 00:28:09.75\00:28:11.65 So Ellen4all, the name says it, 00:28:11.69\00:28:14.52 it's Ellen White for all kindreds, tongues, 00:28:14.56\00:28:19.13 tribes, and people. 00:28:19.16\00:28:20.70 So the project is about crowd-translating, 00:28:20.73\00:28:26.77 kind of like crowd funding, 00:28:26.80\00:28:28.87 you know, where everybody can contribute 00:28:28.90\00:28:30.27 a little bit and it starts to really build up, 00:28:30.31\00:28:32.94 but crowd-translating, 00:28:32.97\00:28:34.38 so everybody contributes to translate 00:28:34.41\00:28:37.05 Ellen White's writings into their native tongue. 00:28:37.08\00:28:39.98 Well, that sounds like a very innovative way 00:28:40.02\00:28:42.12 to be able to get more of the Spirit of Prophecy 00:28:42.15\00:28:44.55 translated into many languages. 00:28:44.59\00:28:46.55 Well, you know, Ellen White, 00:28:46.59\00:28:48.76 I believe was one of the most innovative people in her time. 00:28:48.79\00:28:53.66 And so I believe that 00:28:53.70\00:28:55.13 this is part of what we're called to do 00:28:55.16\00:28:58.90 is to do stuff like that. 00:28:58.93\00:29:00.74 And I think that to get into 55 languages, 00:29:00.77\00:29:05.74 which is our goal now in partnership 00:29:05.77\00:29:08.81 with the White Estate to do that is really, 00:29:08.84\00:29:12.61 you know, it's a lot of languages. 00:29:12.65\00:29:14.38 And if we do this in a traditional way, 00:29:14.42\00:29:16.69 it's gonna be very slow to get there. Right. 00:29:16.72\00:29:20.16 Yes, exactly. 00:29:20.19\00:29:21.52 So why don't we look at some of the slides 00:29:21.56\00:29:22.99 that you want to show us that tell us 00:29:23.02\00:29:24.36 a little bit more about the project, 00:29:24.39\00:29:26.29 and you can explain to us a little bit more in depth. 00:29:26.33\00:29:30.83 Yeah. So on the... 00:29:30.87\00:29:34.84 Yes, the slide that you can see, 00:29:34.87\00:29:36.67 you can really see that the most translated language 00:29:36.71\00:29:40.44 is actually Spanish and Portuguese 00:29:40.48\00:29:43.21 that we have for Ellen White's writings. 00:29:43.24\00:29:45.35 And you just realize 00:29:45.38\00:29:46.95 that even though that represents about 100 books 00:29:46.98\00:29:50.19 that they've translated, 00:29:50.22\00:29:51.65 it's still only about 25% of everything 00:29:51.69\00:29:55.89 that Ellen White has written. 00:29:55.92\00:29:58.33 So really... 00:29:58.36\00:30:00.23 For me the worst part of the whole statistic 00:30:03.33\00:30:06.57 is that over 700 languages have less than 1% translated. 00:30:06.60\00:30:11.47 They've got maybe one book or a few books, 00:30:11.51\00:30:14.94 you know, and none of the stuff that, 00:30:14.98\00:30:19.55 for me, was really important in like 00:30:19.58\00:30:21.58 getting into the work of ASI and Madison, 00:30:21.62\00:30:24.82 and self-supporting, and any of that, 00:30:24.85\00:30:26.69 you know, lay involvement and total member involvement, 00:30:26.72\00:30:29.52 a lot of these things are not translated, 00:30:29.56\00:30:31.99 so it obviously impacts the church. 00:30:32.03\00:30:34.26 And so this was really my burden. 00:30:34.30\00:30:36.93 My background is in translation. 00:30:36.97\00:30:39.10 We have a translation ministry, Crosslingo. 00:30:39.13\00:30:41.67 And so we were like, 00:30:41.70\00:30:43.27 "Hey, why don't we translate this 00:30:43.30\00:30:45.11 with the way we translate everything else?" 00:30:45.14\00:30:47.31 You know, we translate books 00:30:47.34\00:30:48.68 for other ministries and so forth, 00:30:48.71\00:30:50.28 but we realized this will cost 00:30:50.31\00:30:52.35 millions and millions of dollars 00:30:52.38\00:30:54.22 to translate all of this content 00:30:54.25\00:30:56.35 into 55, let alone, 00:30:56.38\00:30:58.89 you know, 700 languages. 00:30:58.92\00:31:00.26 So we're like we need a new approach. 00:31:00.29\00:31:02.69 Okay. 00:31:02.72\00:31:04.06 And so this is where we can't figure it out. 00:31:04.09\00:31:05.59 Okay, well, 00:31:05.63\00:31:06.96 let's learn from the crowd technology 00:31:07.00\00:31:10.10 that's out there. 00:31:10.13\00:31:11.47 And we just use a process, 00:31:11.50\00:31:15.10 you know, to really help monitor 00:31:15.14\00:31:18.24 the translators that get on there 00:31:18.27\00:31:20.04 to really improve the quality as they go 00:31:20.08\00:31:21.98 and we get some to translate here 00:31:22.01\00:31:25.21 as you can see on the picture. 00:31:25.25\00:31:27.95 You know, some they translate it 00:31:27.98\00:31:31.05 and then we have professionals that review it, 00:31:31.09\00:31:33.32 and then we have, finally, 00:31:33.36\00:31:34.76 you know, proofreaders from approved entities, 00:31:34.79\00:31:39.43 you know, like publishing houses 00:31:39.46\00:31:40.80 and White Estate to approve it for them to be uploaded 00:31:40.83\00:31:43.43 on the Ellen White... 00:31:43.47\00:31:45.67 At least make it available online, 00:31:45.70\00:31:47.47 you know, to the people. 00:31:47.50\00:31:48.84 And so anyway, 00:31:48.87\00:31:50.21 it's really exciting to be able to figure out 00:31:50.24\00:31:54.64 how to use these things in a much... 00:31:54.68\00:31:57.31 To be able to move much faster 00:31:57.35\00:31:59.81 and at the same time to really 00:31:59.85\00:32:02.32 use the technology that's available 00:32:02.35\00:32:04.29 and also to improve the quality, right, 00:32:04.32\00:32:08.69 because suddenly you get multiple people 00:32:08.72\00:32:11.83 looking over each paragraph and approving each paragraph, 00:32:11.86\00:32:14.86 so it really gets up into the, you know... 00:32:14.90\00:32:17.83 Okay, so you'll have people that translate, 00:32:17.87\00:32:19.77 but then because the whole crowd is involved, 00:32:19.80\00:32:22.37 then people can review other's work 00:32:22.40\00:32:24.21 and it can improve the quality of the translation. 00:32:24.24\00:32:26.88 Exactly. 00:32:26.91\00:32:28.24 In some languages, 00:32:28.28\00:32:29.61 we actually are using some artificial intelligence 00:32:29.64\00:32:31.91 to do initial translations or at least to make suggestions 00:32:31.95\00:32:36.85 or make auto suggestions. 00:32:36.89\00:32:38.45 And then translators can use those 00:32:38.49\00:32:40.82 or not use those depending. 00:32:40.86\00:32:42.32 Some languages have really good artificial intelligence, 00:32:42.36\00:32:45.09 machine translations, 00:32:45.13\00:32:46.76 others are really bad, 00:32:46.80\00:32:48.13 you know, like Google Translate 00:32:48.16\00:32:50.37 or something like that, you know? 00:32:50.40\00:32:51.73 But we don't use that, 00:32:51.77\00:32:53.64 so it really helps also to move the process forward. 00:32:53.67\00:32:57.41 But then we have, 00:32:57.44\00:32:58.77 you know, really, professionals also 00:32:58.81\00:33:00.54 to review those things. 00:33:00.58\00:33:02.04 Most of the people really that come are, 00:33:02.08\00:33:04.68 you know, really, 00:33:04.71\00:33:06.05 linguists and they're into translation, 00:33:06.08\00:33:08.58 you know, not everybody does translation in their free time. 00:33:08.62\00:33:10.22 And they have a burden and a passion 00:33:10.25\00:33:11.89 to be able to get these messages out 00:33:11.92\00:33:13.96 to their language group for sure. 00:33:13.99\00:33:15.86 Yes. Wonderful. 00:33:15.89\00:33:17.23 Can you tell us some stories 00:33:17.26\00:33:18.59 of how this project has impacted people? 00:33:18.63\00:33:21.76 Yeah, we have a number of people. 00:33:21.80\00:33:23.30 Actually, in a few months, 00:33:23.33\00:33:25.17 suddenly we got a few hundred people 00:33:25.20\00:33:27.54 translating on a weekly basis, translating stuff into German. 00:33:27.57\00:33:31.54 We were just doing German and Swahili. 00:33:31.57\00:33:34.71 And so they were getting in there 00:33:34.74\00:33:36.31 and starting to translate. 00:33:36.34\00:33:37.68 They started translating a few books. 00:33:37.71\00:33:41.22 They're still in the review process. 00:33:41.25\00:33:42.78 So it's some work. 00:33:42.82\00:33:45.95 We have young people, 00:33:45.99\00:33:47.32 but then we also have a lot of pastors, 00:33:47.36\00:33:49.72 retired pastors. 00:33:49.76\00:33:51.09 One pastor, he actually sent us a video, 00:33:51.13\00:33:56.00 you know, sharing his testimony. 00:33:56.03\00:33:57.37 He was just like, 00:33:57.40\00:33:58.73 "I am just so amazed about this thing. 00:33:58.77\00:34:01.80 I thought I was gonna do them a favor 00:34:01.84\00:34:03.74 and start translating." 00:34:03.77\00:34:05.11 And he started translating his stuff and he's just like... 00:34:05.14\00:34:07.34 He just opened his mind. 00:34:07.38\00:34:09.14 And so now he's actually translating all of these things 00:34:09.18\00:34:12.71 in his morning devotions. 00:34:12.75\00:34:14.92 And he's doing it like for half an hour every day, 00:34:14.95\00:34:17.79 you know, translating and then writing sermons 00:34:17.82\00:34:20.12 based on the text that he is translating 00:34:20.16\00:34:23.19 for the platform so that it can be, 00:34:23.22\00:34:26.63 you know, put on the public. 00:34:26.66\00:34:28.56 So it was just powerful to see how this really transforms 00:34:28.60\00:34:32.63 even young people's lives and also older people's lives 00:34:32.67\00:34:36.17 and retired pastors 00:34:36.20\00:34:38.17 and so forth that want to contribute, 00:34:38.21\00:34:40.38 lot of them are really excited that 00:34:40.41\00:34:42.34 they can really contribute now to the work. 00:34:42.38\00:34:44.71 Well, thank you so much for sharing, Jesse. 00:34:44.75\00:34:47.02 And I want to thank each of you 00:34:47.05\00:34:48.65 because we're gonna watch a video 00:34:48.68\00:34:50.32 that you prepared for us, Jesse. 00:34:50.35\00:34:52.09 But I want to thank each of you 00:34:52.12\00:34:53.59 for participating this evening and for being here. 00:34:53.62\00:34:56.66 May God bless each of you 00:34:56.69\00:34:58.03 in your ministry as you continue. 00:34:58.06\00:34:59.63 I just want to say, 00:34:59.66\00:35:01.03 please come on Ellen4All. 00:35:01.06\00:35:03.43 This is the last slide there, Ellen4All.org. 00:35:03.47\00:35:06.74 And you can sign up and start translating. 00:35:06.77\00:35:09.64 And we're just making available the possibility 00:35:09.67\00:35:12.74 for even some of the people that don't speak two languages 00:35:12.77\00:35:17.31 to go in and actually work on just the English text 00:35:17.35\00:35:20.92 to look at what are... 00:35:20.95\00:35:23.32 You know, to make comments on 00:35:23.35\00:35:24.69 Okay, this Ellen White here actually was saying, 00:35:24.72\00:35:27.99 you know, in that culture, 00:35:28.02\00:35:29.36 in that time it meant this and so forth, 00:35:29.39\00:35:31.56 so to really improve the quality of the translation. 00:35:31.59\00:35:34.43 And obviously pray for us and, 00:35:34.46\00:35:38.70 you know, support, sponsor, 00:35:38.73\00:35:40.94 you know, so we can really move the translations forward 00:35:40.97\00:35:44.01 quickly into all of these 55 languages. 00:35:44.04\00:35:47.38 Thank you so much to each of you. 00:35:47.41\00:35:49.14 Tonight, we have with us some exciting people, 00:37:08.79\00:37:11.59 some exciting stories. 00:37:11.63\00:37:13.43 We'll start with you. 00:37:13.46\00:37:14.80 We have Mike Wells with us from Print Bibles 4 Cuba. 00:37:14.83\00:37:19.37 And, Mike, tell us what is Print Bibles 4 Cuba? 00:37:19.40\00:37:23.41 Print Bibles 4 Cuba is a project. 00:37:23.44\00:37:25.47 It's not a ministry and it's not a business, 00:37:25.51\00:37:27.41 but it's a project that started, 00:37:27.44\00:37:30.65 May, the beginning of May, last year or so, 00:37:30.68\00:37:33.01 what's that, 18 months or whatever? 00:37:33.05\00:37:34.78 That's right. 00:37:34.82\00:37:36.15 So the purpose of Print Bibles 4 Cuba 00:37:36.18\00:37:38.99 is to upgrade the existing publishing house, 00:37:39.02\00:37:42.69 increase their productivity so that they can produce Bibles 00:37:42.72\00:37:46.73 and books and tracts, like leaves of autumn. 00:37:46.76\00:37:50.40 Wow, that's awesome. 00:37:50.43\00:37:51.77 And who's involved 00:37:51.80\00:37:53.13 and how did you get involved, Mike? 00:37:53.17\00:37:55.54 There are two of us that are co-founders. 00:37:55.57\00:37:58.04 You'll see Russell's picture up here later. 00:37:58.07\00:38:00.51 But I got involved 00:38:00.54\00:38:03.85 or the back story for me is that, years ago, 00:38:03.88\00:38:10.35 I saw four pieces of junk printing equipment 00:38:10.39\00:38:12.99 at a government auction. 00:38:13.02\00:38:14.36 Wow. 00:38:14.39\00:38:15.72 And we were down on our last dollar, 00:38:15.76\00:38:17.09 but being a printer, 00:38:17.13\00:38:19.09 I thought this had some hope. 00:38:19.13\00:38:21.23 So without telling my wife, I went and bought 00:38:21.26\00:38:23.16 that equipment, not a good thing. 00:38:23.20\00:38:24.53 Without telling your wife. 00:38:24.57\00:38:25.97 But I started seeing how God was working 00:38:26.00\00:38:28.47 because out of those four pieces of junk, 00:38:28.50\00:38:31.34 after repairing them and selling them 00:38:31.37\00:38:32.71 and trading and repairing, 00:38:32.74\00:38:34.08 and after a while, 00:38:34.11\00:38:35.44 I had a print shop with no money, 00:38:35.48\00:38:37.55 to speak of anyway, invested into print shop. 00:38:37.58\00:38:40.72 Wow. 00:38:40.75\00:38:42.08 And this idea hit me that 00:38:42.12\00:38:45.15 if we can set up a simple print shop that cheap, 00:38:45.19\00:38:48.06 why wouldn't it be possible to have print shops 00:38:48.09\00:38:50.79 and publishing houses in many of these small remote places 00:38:50.83\00:38:54.13 in the world? 00:38:54.16\00:38:55.50 Right. 00:38:55.53\00:38:56.87 Well, as time went on, 00:38:56.90\00:38:58.23 I was at an ASI Convention in Dallas. 00:38:58.27\00:39:00.87 Don't even remember how many years ago it was. 00:39:00.90\00:39:03.64 But Garwin McNeilus was telling about the situation in Cuba 00:39:03.67\00:39:08.88 with their printing presses. 00:39:08.91\00:39:10.61 And you may have heard they were using used motor oil 00:39:10.65\00:39:14.08 and letterpress. 00:39:14.12\00:39:15.45 And my heart just cried. 00:39:15.48\00:39:16.82 Being a press mechanic, I couldn't stand it. 00:39:16.85\00:39:19.22 But I couldn't do anything about it, 00:39:19.25\00:39:20.59 so it laid dormant for many years. 00:39:20.62\00:39:23.86 So that was actually the back story of how things got started 00:39:23.89\00:39:26.23 and then they just continued from there. 00:39:26.26\00:39:28.16 But that was when I really felt 00:39:28.20\00:39:29.53 the Lord's call to do something. 00:39:29.56\00:39:31.63 Wow. That's incredible. 00:39:31.67\00:39:33.00 And I understand you took a recent trip to Cuba 00:39:33.03\00:39:35.90 to investigate, tell us about it. 00:39:35.94\00:39:37.74 Probably, I didn't introduce Russ first. 00:39:37.77\00:39:40.44 Russ is the other partner in this, co-founder. 00:39:40.48\00:39:44.25 And as a youth, 00:39:44.28\00:39:46.31 now this is before I even got the call, 00:39:46.35\00:39:48.78 but as a youth, 00:39:48.82\00:39:50.15 he was growing up in southern Korea. 00:39:50.19\00:39:56.56 There we go. Thank you. All right. 00:39:56.59\00:39:58.16 Southern Korea 00:39:58.19\00:39:59.53 and observing the effective communism 00:39:59.56\00:40:01.86 on the church both in North Korea and in Cuba 00:40:01.90\00:40:06.03 and in China. 00:40:06.07\00:40:08.50 And he determined in his heart at that time 00:40:08.54\00:40:10.51 that he needed to do something to be a part of spreading 00:40:10.54\00:40:13.68 the gospel in communist countries, 00:40:13.71\00:40:15.64 and that being publishing. 00:40:15.68\00:40:19.41 That's awesome. 00:40:19.45\00:40:20.78 So then you and Russ collaborated together 00:40:20.82\00:40:23.75 and established... 00:40:23.79\00:40:25.12 Yes, Russ and I actually worked together for several years 00:40:25.15\00:40:27.16 at Christian Record Services, so we already knew each other. 00:40:27.19\00:40:30.06 About three years ago, 00:40:30.09\00:40:32.16 I started hearing the word Cuba, Cuba, 00:40:32.19\00:40:34.93 Cuba ringing in my head 00:40:34.96\00:40:36.30 and I tried everything I could to find out 00:40:36.33\00:40:38.93 who the contacts were. 00:40:38.97\00:40:40.30 I even emailed Jamie George, 00:40:40.34\00:40:42.10 and he sent me a picture of an old letterpress. 00:40:42.14\00:40:44.84 It just... 00:40:44.87\00:40:46.21 So I decided we had to go over and investigate, 00:40:46.24\00:40:48.28 so I asked Russ if he could go over with me 00:40:48.31\00:40:50.11 and help size it up. 00:40:50.15\00:40:51.85 And what do you find out 00:40:51.88\00:40:53.21 when you went over to investigate? 00:40:53.25\00:40:54.58 We found out that their production department 00:40:54.62\00:40:56.12 was really in great need. 00:40:56.15\00:40:58.25 It wasn't because the people were bad. 00:40:58.29\00:40:59.75 It was the equipment was wrong for what they were doing. 00:40:59.79\00:41:01.92 They were printing Sabbath School quarterlies 00:41:01.96\00:41:03.59 on an 8.5x11 sheet, 00:41:03.63\00:41:06.16 collating them all together and then folding them 00:41:06.19\00:41:07.96 and then... 00:41:08.00\00:41:09.33 So we knew we had to do something. 00:41:09.36\00:41:10.70 So we made a two-part proposal to them. 00:41:10.73\00:41:13.34 Part one of the proposal was that 00:41:13.37\00:41:14.70 we increase their productivity 00:41:14.74\00:41:16.24 so that they could eventually print Bibles. 00:41:16.27\00:41:19.87 Stage two is where we would help them 00:41:19.91\00:41:24.38 actually print the Bibles 00:41:24.41\00:41:25.75 and train them to that point. 00:41:25.78\00:41:28.88 So the progress report right now is that phase one 00:41:28.92\00:41:32.85 actually is very close to completion. 00:41:32.89\00:41:34.76 We have the equipment in my print shop 00:41:34.79\00:41:37.23 in Auburn, Nebraska, 00:41:37.26\00:41:38.83 being cleaned up and repaired. 00:41:38.86\00:41:40.86 One piece is in Florida, that's the bookbinder. 00:41:40.90\00:41:44.67 But otherwise we've got everything for that. 00:41:44.70\00:41:47.27 Phase two is where we're still asking the Lord 00:41:47.30\00:41:50.84 how He is going to lead us 00:41:50.87\00:41:52.94 'cause phase two requires 00:41:52.97\00:41:55.51 a press much bigger than any of us have. 00:41:55.54\00:41:57.61 And by the way, 00:41:57.65\00:41:58.98 the Lord provided that press 10 years ago. 00:41:59.01\00:42:01.42 Ten years ago, I had a huge book printing press 00:42:01.45\00:42:05.35 dropped in my lap as it were. 00:42:05.39\00:42:07.59 And it's in storage now, it has been for about 10 years. 00:42:07.62\00:42:09.72 Wow. 00:42:09.76\00:42:11.09 And I know the Lord was encouraging me 00:42:11.13\00:42:13.29 to move on it, but it's been sitting. 00:42:13.33\00:42:16.06 And I cried out to the Lord, 00:42:16.10\00:42:17.43 "Lord, what do you want to do with this press?" 00:42:17.47\00:42:19.47 And I believe that, here at this ASI, 00:42:19.50\00:42:21.34 we are going to find the answer to that question. 00:42:21.37\00:42:23.74 Amen. 00:42:23.77\00:42:25.11 Well, you know, I believe 00:42:25.14\00:42:26.47 we're gonna find the answer too. 00:42:26.51\00:42:27.84 And that's what I want to ask you, 00:42:27.88\00:42:29.58 as we kind of close this time together, 00:42:29.61\00:42:31.91 is what can ASI do to help? 00:42:31.95\00:42:35.25 What I'm asking of ASI 00:42:35.28\00:42:37.89 is that anybody who has a burden for publishing 00:42:37.92\00:42:43.09 and maybe hasn't realized their dream yet 00:42:43.12\00:42:45.19 because you don't have equipment 00:42:45.23\00:42:46.56 or don't know how to start, 00:42:46.59\00:42:48.10 we are going to be having a meeting tomorrow 00:42:48.13\00:42:49.90 between 2 o'clock and 3 o'clock, 00:42:49.93\00:42:51.87 where we just like to brainstorm 00:42:51.90\00:42:53.64 a multitude of counselors as it is. 00:42:53.67\00:42:56.04 And see where we go from here because I believe that 00:42:56.07\00:42:58.71 this might be how the Lord answers that question. 00:42:58.74\00:43:01.04 By the way, I forgot to tell you that web press, 00:43:01.08\00:43:03.61 that book press can print a million Bible pages an hour. 00:43:03.65\00:43:06.45 A million? 00:43:06.48\00:43:07.82 A million Bible pages an hour. Wow. 00:43:07.85\00:43:09.18 And that would equate to about 1,000 Bibles an hour. 00:43:09.22\00:43:12.25 Now naturally, you still have to do the collating 00:43:12.29\00:43:15.06 and everything, 00:43:15.09\00:43:16.42 but it's a very productive press 00:43:16.46\00:43:17.86 that was going to scrap iron. 00:43:17.89\00:43:19.83 And I salvaged it basically from scrap iron. 00:43:19.86\00:43:22.70 So if you're out there 00:43:22.73\00:43:24.77 and you have an interest in publishing 00:43:24.80\00:43:27.50 and you want to see how this model 00:43:27.54\00:43:29.64 of publishing works that I'm proposing, 00:43:29.67\00:43:32.71 we'd really like to just brainstorm together. 00:43:32.74\00:43:35.28 Two ways to get a hold of us 00:43:35.31\00:43:36.64 is we're kind of hanging out at the HeReturns booth that's... 00:43:36.68\00:43:42.92 I don't remember what booth, but HeReturns... 00:43:42.95\00:43:45.85 It's on the screen. 00:43:45.89\00:43:47.22 Okay. World Youth Group. 00:43:47.26\00:43:48.59 There you go. 00:43:48.62\00:43:49.96 World Youth Group will be... 00:43:49.99\00:43:51.83 They will also be able to give you information 00:43:51.86\00:43:53.56 or you could email or just call. 00:43:53.60\00:43:57.17 And we'd like to see... 00:43:57.20\00:43:59.73 We'd like to get your input tomorrow on this. 00:43:59.77\00:44:02.00 Thank you so much, Mike. 00:44:02.04\00:44:03.37 May the Lord continue to richly bless your ministry. 00:44:03.41\00:44:05.44 Thank you. 00:44:05.47\00:44:06.81 And it's been such an honor to share this at ASI. 00:44:06.84\00:44:09.04 Amen. Amen. 00:44:09.08\00:44:10.71 And now we have Craig, 00:44:10.75\00:44:13.62 who is from Riverside Farms. 00:44:13.65\00:44:17.92 And, Craig, what's new at Riverside Farms? 00:44:17.95\00:44:20.99 We're fans of Riverside Farms here at ASI. 00:44:21.02\00:44:23.36 What's new? Tell us. 00:44:23.39\00:44:24.73 Okay. 00:44:24.76\00:44:26.09 So most of you know we grow bananas, 00:44:26.13\00:44:27.46 have a school, have a wellness center. 00:44:27.50\00:44:29.83 But today, I want to share a little bit about 00:44:29.86\00:44:31.37 what it is that drives us to be there. 00:44:31.40\00:44:34.70 An author recently said none of us deserve to hear 00:44:34.74\00:44:37.44 the gospel for a second time, 00:44:37.47\00:44:39.27 while some of us have never heard it for the first time. 00:44:39.31\00:44:41.21 And that's something that, you know, resonates with me. 00:44:41.24\00:44:44.48 And serving in a country with a million people, 00:44:44.51\00:44:47.15 the question is begged, 00:44:47.18\00:44:48.52 what are you doing for the people who've never heard? 00:44:48.55\00:44:50.39 And so I began to think what can we do. 00:44:50.42\00:44:52.95 And so we have an evangelism school there 00:44:52.99\00:44:54.32 and I talked with our evangelism teacher. 00:44:54.36\00:44:56.36 And I said about a year and a half ago, 00:44:56.39\00:44:58.29 "Why don't we try something different? 00:44:58.33\00:44:59.76 Why don't we take our students? 00:44:59.79\00:45:01.36 And instead of taking them to the local church 00:45:01.40\00:45:03.00 where they can lean on a pastor or an elder or a deacon, 00:45:03.03\00:45:06.03 let's take them to a village that's unreached." 00:45:06.07\00:45:09.77 And there was some nervousness among students and faculty, 00:45:09.80\00:45:13.48 but we went ahead and did it. 00:45:13.51\00:45:15.31 We went to a place where there's never been 00:45:15.34\00:45:17.48 a Protestant effort, 00:45:17.51\00:45:18.85 let alone an Adventist effort in 100 years. 00:45:18.88\00:45:20.78 And we saw the Lord bless, 00:45:20.82\00:45:23.08 more than 70 souls were baptized. 00:45:23.12\00:45:25.59 Wow. A one-day church was built. 00:45:25.62\00:45:27.86 Amen. 00:45:27.89\00:45:29.22 A student was brought back and trained in evangelism 00:45:29.26\00:45:31.29 and is now fostering that church there. 00:45:31.33\00:45:33.76 And so we continue to do that. 00:45:33.80\00:45:35.16 And so we've done that now in five locations. 00:45:35.20\00:45:38.07 There's now five churches that have been planted by students 00:45:38.10\00:45:41.50 around Zambia in villages where there's been nothing. 00:45:41.54\00:45:45.47 And it's amazing because students who go to that place, 00:45:45.51\00:45:50.35 they can't lean on anyone. 00:45:50.38\00:45:52.35 So when they come back, they don't have a question, 00:45:52.38\00:45:55.95 "Can God use me to win souls for the Lord Jesus?" 00:45:55.98\00:45:59.39 They know. 00:45:59.42\00:46:00.76 And for the rest of their life, 00:46:00.79\00:46:02.12 they don't have to wonder the question, 00:46:02.16\00:46:04.69 "Can God do it for me," because they've seen it. 00:46:04.73\00:46:06.96 Wow. 00:46:07.00\00:46:08.33 How old are these students, Craig? 00:46:08.36\00:46:09.70 Students from anywhere from about 18... 00:46:09.73\00:46:11.70 Wow. And up. 00:46:11.73\00:46:13.07 Wow. Going out and doing that. 00:46:13.10\00:46:14.44 That's amazing. 00:46:14.47\00:46:15.80 You know, you recently had an experience 00:46:15.84\00:46:17.41 kind of in the jungle there in Zambia. 00:46:17.44\00:46:20.31 Tell us about it. Sure. 00:46:20.34\00:46:21.84 So the latest crusade we did in southern part of Zambia. 00:46:21.88\00:46:26.01 Our students went out, began to work. 00:46:26.05\00:46:27.68 And they noticed, when they first got to this village, 00:46:27.72\00:46:30.22 that, you know, they put up posters. 00:46:30.25\00:46:32.42 And usually in the village, you know, 00:46:32.45\00:46:33.79 kids come along and have all kinds of things 00:46:33.82\00:46:35.56 to do with posters, 00:46:35.59\00:46:36.93 but none of the posters were gone. 00:46:36.96\00:46:38.36 And so in Zambia, 00:46:38.39\00:46:39.73 you have a couple of different forms of leadership. 00:46:39.76\00:46:41.63 You have a chief, 00:46:41.66\00:46:43.20 who is a bit like a king, you know, 00:46:43.23\00:46:44.57 it comes along a bloodline. 00:46:44.60\00:46:46.84 But you have village headman 00:46:46.87\00:46:48.20 and there they're in leadership in a village 00:46:48.24\00:46:50.97 because they have leadership skills. 00:46:51.01\00:46:52.57 Wow. 00:46:52.61\00:46:53.94 And so this man was a leader in that village 00:46:53.98\00:46:55.98 and they began to get to know him 00:46:56.01\00:46:58.35 and the thing that was interesting 00:46:58.38\00:47:01.62 is they found out that he had had 17 wives. 00:47:01.65\00:47:04.72 Wow. 00:47:04.75\00:47:06.09 Is that even possible? 00:47:06.12\00:47:07.69 Beyond that, 00:47:07.72\00:47:10.23 he was feared even by chiefs in the region 00:47:10.26\00:47:12.39 because when he worked in the villages 00:47:12.43\00:47:15.03 that he was the headman over, 00:47:15.06\00:47:16.67 if someone was misbehaving and it was severe, 00:47:16.70\00:47:21.34 he would go home, he would write a note, 00:47:21.37\00:47:23.94 he would hold it up, 00:47:23.97\00:47:25.31 and a bird would come down, 00:47:25.34\00:47:26.68 take the note out of his hand, 00:47:26.71\00:47:28.21 go and fly to that person's house. 00:47:28.24\00:47:30.35 And when the bird arrived, that person would die. 00:47:30.38\00:47:33.35 And... Wow! 00:47:33.38\00:47:35.02 Yeah, he was feared 'cause he not only had 17 wives, 00:47:35.05\00:47:38.65 he ran the villages tightly, but he was dangerous. 00:47:38.69\00:47:41.62 Another time arguing with the one of the local headman 00:47:41.66\00:47:44.99 who was disagreeing with him where their boundaries fell, 00:47:45.03\00:47:47.76 and he says, looks, 00:47:47.80\00:47:49.13 "And we'll see about where this boundary lies." 00:47:49.16\00:47:50.83 And that night lightning cut right 00:47:50.87\00:47:53.23 through the place where he was. 00:47:53.27\00:47:55.04 He was there. 00:47:55.07\00:47:56.40 And we think, you know, we're in the West, 00:47:56.44\00:47:57.77 we don't believe in some of this stuff. 00:47:57.81\00:47:59.14 Let me tell you, in Africa, these things are real. 00:47:59.17\00:48:01.64 Yes, these things are real. 00:48:01.68\00:48:03.24 And so it seemed like a very unlikely place 00:48:03.28\00:48:05.71 for the gospel to have an easy place to go. 00:48:05.75\00:48:07.95 Right. 00:48:07.98\00:48:09.32 But as time went on, the man began to have dreams 00:48:09.35\00:48:12.62 that were a lot like the stories in Daniel. 00:48:12.65\00:48:16.76 And when we arrived, he had gotten himself 00:48:16.79\00:48:18.86 down to 1 wife from 17. 00:48:18.89\00:48:20.80 Amen. 00:48:20.83\00:48:22.16 And when he heard this message, he responded. 00:48:22.20\00:48:26.47 And so today, 00:48:26.50\00:48:28.47 there's a church in that village, 00:48:28.50\00:48:30.51 60 people were baptized into the church. 00:48:30.54\00:48:32.97 And the headman said, "I don't care 00:48:33.01\00:48:34.41 who is here in my area, they're gonna come 00:48:34.44\00:48:37.38 and they're gonna help put up the walls 00:48:37.41\00:48:38.75 and finish that one-day church in the area." 00:48:38.78\00:48:41.32 And so we're looking forward to training a Bible worker 00:48:41.35\00:48:43.55 and sending them back. 00:48:43.59\00:48:44.92 Amen. Amen. 00:48:44.95\00:48:47.06 What a wonderful testimony to the transforming power of God. 00:48:47.09\00:48:50.33 So tell me how can we get involved. 00:48:50.36\00:48:52.69 What can we do to help? 00:48:52.73\00:48:54.06 Sure. There's a couple ways. 00:48:54.10\00:48:55.43 You can go to OutpostCenters.org 00:48:55.46\00:48:56.80 and look for Riverside Farm 00:48:56.83\00:48:58.43 and you'll see a number of ways you can get involved. 00:48:58.47\00:49:00.80 One of the things that's very impactful 00:49:00.84\00:49:02.40 there in Zambia is the one-day church project. 00:49:02.44\00:49:04.44 So if you're here 00:49:04.47\00:49:05.81 and you're supporting the one-day church project, 00:49:05.84\00:49:07.88 it's a huge benefit there in Zambia. 00:49:07.91\00:49:11.21 You can also go to RiversideFarm.org 00:49:11.25\00:49:13.58 and learn more about what we do. 00:49:13.62\00:49:15.62 Thank you so much, Craig. Thank you. 00:49:15.65\00:49:19.72 In Sub-Saharan Africa, 00:49:19.75\00:49:21.39 one in three children is severely malnourished. 00:49:21.42\00:49:26.26 People are suffering from diseases 00:49:26.29\00:49:28.50 that they can prevent with simple habits 00:49:28.53\00:49:31.03 and healthy food. 00:49:31.07\00:49:33.84 They don't know about sanitation. 00:49:33.87\00:49:38.31 Education is a necessity. 00:49:38.34\00:49:41.14 Kids have no hope of a better future. 00:49:41.18\00:49:44.41 But Jesus came to this world so we can have life 00:49:53.86\00:49:57.56 and have it more abundantly. 00:49:57.59\00:50:00.40 FARM STEW is a recipe for abundant life 00:50:00.43\00:50:04.70 that includes ingredients that prevent hunger, 00:50:04.73\00:50:07.47 disease, and poverty. 00:50:07.50\00:50:09.24 Our mission is to improve the health 00:50:09.27\00:50:11.54 and wellbeing of poor families 00:50:11.57\00:50:13.54 and vulnerable people throughout the world. 00:50:13.58\00:50:16.11 Drawing on biblical wisdom and sound science, 00:50:16.14\00:50:19.15 our African Christian trainers equipped families 00:50:19.18\00:50:22.08 by conducting hands-on classes, 00:50:22.12\00:50:24.32 freely sharing practical skills so people can help themselves. 00:50:24.35\00:50:29.32 Thanks to the FARM STEW training, 00:50:29.36\00:50:31.19 people learn to live abundantly 00:50:31.23\00:50:33.16 with fresh homegrown food, clean water, tidy homes, 00:50:33.19\00:50:36.80 savings clubs, and strong community ties. 00:50:36.83\00:50:40.07 FARM STEW also supports girls to stay in school 00:50:40.10\00:50:43.57 by giving them washable pads and confidence. 00:50:43.61\00:50:47.41 Your gifts equip desperately poor families 00:50:47.44\00:50:50.15 and vulnerable people so they can help themselves. 00:50:50.18\00:50:53.48 Will you give for abundant life today? 00:51:01.36\00:51:03.93 FARM STEW, a recipe for abundant life. 00:51:07.16\00:51:11.43 So I'm so excited to be able to have FARM STEW with us today. 00:51:11.47\00:51:15.60 And I really experienced FARM STEW 00:51:15.64\00:51:17.71 to when I was in Kenya. 00:51:17.74\00:51:19.51 My wife and I were General Conference missionaries 00:51:19.54\00:51:22.01 in Kenya, and Joy Kauffman, 00:51:22.04\00:51:24.15 your fearless leader came 00:51:24.18\00:51:25.91 and she taught us how to make soy milk from scratch. 00:51:25.95\00:51:29.75 And that was really a fun experience. 00:51:29.78\00:51:31.35 And so I'm so excited to have Susan 00:51:31.39\00:51:33.19 and Edwin with us tonight. 00:51:33.22\00:51:34.92 And, Susan, tell us 00:51:34.96\00:51:36.49 where is FARM STEW having 00:51:36.52\00:51:38.16 the most important impact for success. 00:51:38.19\00:51:42.23 Thank you very much. 00:51:42.26\00:51:43.60 As you can see, from the video, 00:51:43.63\00:51:44.97 that FARM STEW is having a big impact with the poor 00:51:45.00\00:51:46.94 and vulnerable people in Africa. 00:51:46.97\00:51:49.44 And we are currently in three countries. 00:51:49.47\00:51:50.97 We're in South Sudan. 00:51:51.01\00:51:52.34 We're partnering in Zimbabwe, 00:51:52.37\00:51:53.78 and we're in Uganda. 00:51:53.81\00:51:55.14 And the reason that we're in those areas 00:51:55.18\00:51:56.78 is because that is where the hungry are. 00:51:56.81\00:51:58.91 One in three children are severely malnourished. 00:51:58.95\00:52:02.08 And a shocking statistic that five children 00:52:02.12\00:52:04.35 under the age of five die every minute 00:52:04.39\00:52:08.06 if you just think about that for a second. 00:52:08.09\00:52:09.79 That's amazing. 00:52:09.82\00:52:11.16 But the reason FARM STEW is successful 00:52:11.19\00:52:12.83 is because we partner 00:52:12.86\00:52:14.20 with the local Seventh-day Adventist churches there, 00:52:14.23\00:52:16.20 which is wonderful because it helps to train 00:52:16.23\00:52:20.14 and help our own brothers and sisters in Christ. 00:52:20.17\00:52:22.87 And then also it gives us a door 00:52:22.90\00:52:24.27 into the local community. 00:52:24.31\00:52:25.94 And so we train skilled African trainers 00:52:25.97\00:52:29.41 and our FARM STEW ingredients, which are biblically based, 00:52:29.44\00:52:32.51 and they go out into churches, the local community, 00:52:32.55\00:52:36.89 they go to mosques, we're in prisons, 00:52:36.92\00:52:38.72 we're in orphanages, schools, universities. 00:52:38.75\00:52:41.96 And since we began, 3.5 years ago, 00:52:41.99\00:52:43.86 we have conducted approximately 3,000 hands-on 00:52:43.89\00:52:49.06 participatory classes impacting 56,000 lives. 00:52:49.10\00:52:52.30 Three thousand? Wow. 00:52:52.33\00:52:53.67 Yes. 00:52:53.70\00:52:55.04 That is incredible.
