They were excellent. 00:04:07.61\00:04:08.94 All over the place, there were different things happening. 00:04:08.98\00:04:10.41 We were in one of the seminars today 00:04:10.45\00:04:11.78 and enjoyed it very much. 00:04:11.81\00:04:14.25 And one of the things that we're praying for 00:04:14.28\00:04:16.18 and always happens at an ASI Convention 00:04:16.22\00:04:18.79 because of prayer is the Holy Spirit comes down. 00:04:18.82\00:04:23.63 And I was talking with our prayer coordinator, 00:04:23.66\00:04:25.49 and she was saying that this morning, 00:04:25.53\00:04:27.10 there were over 75 people. 00:04:27.13\00:04:29.60 It's 5 or 6 o'clock in the morning to go to prayer 00:04:29.63\00:04:32.73 to just pray for the outpouring 00:04:32.77\00:04:34.27 of the Holy Spirit in this place. 00:04:34.30\00:04:36.34 And that's our prayer as we start 00:04:36.37\00:04:38.14 the Thursday night program, 00:04:38.17\00:04:40.98 which we filled with inspiration, and ideas, 00:04:41.01\00:04:45.01 and things that will draw us 00:04:45.05\00:04:46.51 closer into relationship with Jesus Christ. 00:04:46.55\00:04:49.18 It's our prayer that as that happens this evening 00:04:49.22\00:04:52.15 that you will experience everything 00:04:52.19\00:04:53.66 that God has in store for you. 00:04:53.69\00:04:55.66 And, Karen, would you please pray for us 00:04:55.69\00:04:57.29 as we open Thursday night. 00:04:57.33\00:04:58.96 Let's bow our heads. 00:04:58.99\00:05:01.33 Father in heaven, we're so thankful 00:05:01.36\00:05:03.13 we can be here tonight 00:05:03.16\00:05:04.77 to worship and praise Your name. 00:05:04.80\00:05:07.57 I asked that You would be with each speaker 00:05:07.60\00:05:09.77 that presents tonight as they share 00:05:09.80\00:05:12.17 how You have led in their lives. 00:05:12.21\00:05:14.84 Now I asked that You would fill us 00:05:14.88\00:05:16.51 with Your Holy Spirit, 00:05:16.54\00:05:18.31 and bless us, and make us a blessing. 00:05:18.35\00:05:21.45 I ask it all in the name above all names, 00:05:21.48\00:05:24.19 Jesus Christ, amen. 00:05:24.22\00:05:25.99 If I ask you 00:05:30.33\00:05:31.73 how many of you know the Adventist Review, 00:05:31.76\00:05:34.20 I suspect just about every hand would go up. 00:05:34.23\00:05:37.50 The Adventist Review has been part 00:05:37.53\00:05:40.07 of your family's traditions for perhaps decades. 00:05:40.10\00:05:43.94 We're now at almost 170 years, 00:05:43.97\00:05:46.24 but do you really know the Adventist Review? 00:05:46.27\00:05:50.01 You may have thought of it as a print journal, 00:05:50.05\00:05:52.18 you may be getting it in your home. 00:05:52.21\00:05:53.55 I hope you are. 00:05:53.58\00:05:54.92 But the Adventist Review is a lot more 00:05:54.95\00:05:56.65 than a print journal today, 00:05:56.69\00:05:58.99 it's an on-demand television network, 00:05:59.02\00:06:01.66 it's a brand new series of podcasts, 00:06:01.69\00:06:05.03 it's social media pushing these messages 00:06:05.06\00:06:07.80 about Adventist truths widely around the world. 00:06:07.83\00:06:11.83 It's a media lab. 00:06:11.87\00:06:13.20 It's a variety of ways of taking 00:06:13.23\00:06:15.04 the same central messages of Adventism 00:06:15.07\00:06:17.47 and putting them out there for new audiences 00:06:17.51\00:06:19.57 on new platforms. 00:06:19.61\00:06:20.98 One of those new platforms is our ARTV platform, 00:06:21.01\00:06:23.95 and Rico Hill's going to tell you about that. 00:06:23.98\00:06:25.95 ARTV, what is that, Bill? 00:06:25.98\00:06:28.32 ARTV? Well, you're going to tell. 00:06:28.35\00:06:30.79 That's the question that people ask 00:06:30.82\00:06:32.49 when they come to our `booth. 00:06:32.52\00:06:33.86 What's ARTV? 00:06:33.89\00:06:35.22 Well, ARTV is a new platform, a new digital platform 00:06:35.26\00:06:40.20 where we have over 700 pieces of Christian programming 00:06:40.23\00:06:45.43 in our catalog. 00:06:45.47\00:06:46.94 But we're not just programming and publishing, 00:06:46.97\00:06:49.64 we're actually doing original content as well. 00:06:49.67\00:06:53.61 We have things that we are producing and developing 00:06:53.64\00:06:56.44 and with a strong emphasis on development, 00:06:56.48\00:06:59.65 making sure that what we produce 00:06:59.68\00:07:02.35 is more outward facing 00:07:02.38\00:07:04.32 than just speaking to ourselves. 00:07:04.35\00:07:06.49 So we're creating content that is uniquely 00:07:06.52\00:07:09.66 and definitely evangelistic. 00:07:09.69\00:07:12.16 Amen. 00:07:12.19\00:07:14.00 I want to share with you about what we're doing 00:07:14.03\00:07:15.93 in some of the other areas, one of those is listening. 00:07:15.96\00:07:19.93 We're finding that more and more of us 00:07:19.97\00:07:21.70 may not have as much time as we used to 00:07:21.74\00:07:23.57 to sit down and enjoy a piece of content. 00:07:23.61\00:07:26.37 So we're finding ways 00:07:26.41\00:07:27.74 of how do you get that into audio form. 00:07:27.78\00:07:29.28 So as you're driving or exercising, 00:07:29.31\00:07:31.78 you can listen to podcasts of different interviews 00:07:31.81\00:07:34.48 and different topics 00:07:34.52\00:07:35.85 on some of the things where we're publishing. 00:07:35.88\00:07:38.12 Another area is what we're calling 00:07:38.15\00:07:39.72 the AR Media Lab, 00:07:39.75\00:07:41.66 augmented reality and virtual reality. 00:07:41.69\00:07:44.29 So we'd love to have you come by our booth, 00:07:44.33\00:07:47.20 if you've got a smartphone and if you have a child 00:07:47.23\00:07:50.17 or grandchild, bring them by 00:07:50.20\00:07:52.30 because our newest issues of kids view, 00:07:52.33\00:07:54.87 you have the ability to pull out your phone, 00:07:54.90\00:07:57.11 download our new app and pointed at the magazine 00:07:57.14\00:08:00.44 and outgrows the statue of Nebuchadnezzar. 00:08:00.48\00:08:03.65 And you can walk around it, and you can learn about 00:08:03.68\00:08:06.65 lots of different details. 00:08:06.68\00:08:08.02 We got this in a lot of different areas, 00:08:08.05\00:08:09.82 also a project with voice of prophecy 00:08:09.85\00:08:11.65 launching next week at the Teachers' Convention. 00:08:11.69\00:08:14.36 The last thing I want to share with you 00:08:14.39\00:08:15.72 is our new fundraising program. 00:08:15.76\00:08:18.46 I just want to invite you. 00:08:18.49\00:08:19.83 If you know of a school that is in need of funding, 00:08:19.86\00:08:22.53 we want to talk to you about a new fundraising program, 00:08:22.56\00:08:25.47 we've got launching next week 00:08:25.50\00:08:27.70 that we think can help schools and students afford tuition 00:08:27.74\00:08:32.17 and also help advance the advent message. 00:08:32.21\00:08:36.58 Every year, we come to the ASI Convention, 00:08:36.61\00:08:39.48 between us, I think I was figuring out today, 00:08:39.51\00:08:41.38 we probably got more than 40 years 00:08:41.42\00:08:43.72 of attending ASI conventions between us, 00:08:43.75\00:08:46.09 and I've got about almost 17 of those myself. 00:08:46.12\00:08:48.76 We come here because this is where 00:08:48.79\00:08:51.26 creative, innovative people who are willing to take risks 00:08:51.29\00:08:54.80 for the gospel show up every year. 00:08:54.83\00:08:57.57 That's our kind of audience. 00:08:57.60\00:08:59.13 And that's why every year we take the opportunity 00:08:59.17\00:09:02.30 with the addition of the Adventist Review 00:09:02.34\00:09:03.91 you see in front of you this evening 00:09:03.94\00:09:06.34 to partner with ASI, to share the stories of ASI, 00:09:06.37\00:09:10.25 not just with those of you here or those of you watching, 00:09:10.28\00:09:13.05 but with tens of thousands of people around the world 00:09:13.08\00:09:15.45 on our websites, in our print journals, 00:09:15.48\00:09:17.09 and our social media. 00:09:17.12\00:09:18.45 We do that because we believe 00:09:18.49\00:09:20.69 this is one of the creative heart of Adventism 00:09:20.72\00:09:23.66 continues to speak in fresh contemporary ways 00:09:23.69\00:09:26.96 to the world to the marketplace. 00:09:27.00\00:09:28.93 If you haven't taken the opportunity, 00:09:28.96\00:09:31.10 pull out our most recent issues of Adventist Review 00:09:31.13\00:09:33.67 or go online, go to the Documentaries, 00:09:33.70\00:09:36.14 go to the Podcasts at AdventistReview.org, 00:09:36.17\00:09:39.04 you're going to find yourself in the middle 00:09:39.07\00:09:40.68 of a 7-part series called Digging Deeper. 00:09:40.71\00:09:44.31 And Digging Deeper is exactly what it implies 00:09:44.35\00:09:47.05 going at core Adventist messages. 00:09:47.08\00:09:49.68 The first one in that series was Mark Finely interview 00:09:49.72\00:09:52.45 on the Mark of the Beast. 00:09:52.49\00:09:54.26 Mark's been preaching this message for 50 years. 00:09:54.29\00:09:57.19 He's, by the way, also a member 00:09:57.23\00:09:59.13 of the Adventist Review editorial staff. 00:09:59.16\00:10:01.83 Mark's been preaching this message, 00:10:01.86\00:10:03.53 fascinating interview with him, 00:10:03.57\00:10:04.90 but an even more intriguing documentary 00:10:04.93\00:10:07.44 that Rico and Jared helped produce. 00:10:07.47\00:10:09.14 And a podcast, whatever your preferred platform is, 00:10:09.17\00:10:12.47 you'll find Digging Deeper 00:10:12.51\00:10:14.11 a place you'll want to spend time. 00:10:14.14\00:10:15.71 The second one in that series on the Trinity, this month, 00:10:15.74\00:10:18.95 on Great Deception at the End of the Time, 00:10:18.98\00:10:21.32 Investigative Judgment, Sabbath, State of the Dead, 00:10:21.35\00:10:24.15 all of these topics focused on an Adventist Review. 00:10:24.19\00:10:26.99 We think this is a place you're going to find the ideas 00:10:27.02\00:10:30.19 that will inspire you to witness. 00:10:30.23\00:10:33.09 Thank you. 00:10:33.13\00:10:34.46 When I saw what laid 00:10:48.64\00:10:52.98 Before me 00:10:53.01\00:10:56.62 Lord, I cried 00:10:56.65\00:10:59.55 What will You do? 00:10:59.59\00:11:05.19 I thought He would just remove it 00:11:05.23\00:11:12.57 But He gently led me through 00:11:12.60\00:11:18.11 Without fire there's no refining 00:11:20.88\00:11:28.18 Without pain no relief 00:11:28.22\00:11:34.66 Without flood there's no rescue 00:11:34.69\00:11:41.56 Without testing no belief 00:11:41.60\00:11:47.57 Through the Fire 00:11:51.27\00:11:57.68 Through the Flood 00:11:57.71\00:12:02.82 Through the Water 00:12:02.85\00:12:07.89 Through the Blood 00:12:07.92\00:12:12.93 Through the dry 00:12:12.96\00:12:17.57 And barren places 00:12:17.60\00:12:23.10 Through life's dense 00:12:23.14\00:12:27.71 And maddening mazes 00:12:27.74\00:12:33.35 Through the pain 00:12:33.38\00:12:38.02 And through the glory 00:12:38.05\00:12:43.49 Through will always 00:12:43.53\00:12:47.80 Tell the story 00:12:47.83\00:12:52.20 Of the God 00:12:52.23\00:12:58.21 Whose power and mercy 00:12:58.24\00:13:02.98 Will not fail 00:13:03.01\00:13:09.55 To take us 00:13:11.35\00:13:19.36 Through 00:13:19.39\00:13:22.23 Good evening, ASI. 00:13:32.81\00:13:34.34 I have with me tonight a very diverse group of people 00:13:37.75\00:13:41.35 from Weimar College. 00:13:41.38\00:13:43.05 I have administrators, faculty, and students, 00:13:43.08\00:13:46.59 and they've launched a very unique program 00:13:46.62\00:13:50.56 that is actually a spin-off of Total Member Involvement. 00:13:50.59\00:13:54.70 Most of our audience is probably familiar 00:13:54.73\00:13:57.03 with Total Member Involvement, 00:13:57.07\00:13:59.23 but what they've done is taken that idea 00:13:59.27\00:14:03.04 and launched what's called Total Community Involvement. 00:14:03.07\00:14:06.68 Would you, first of all, tell me who you are, 00:14:06.71\00:14:09.64 and each of you, I'll let you introduce yourselves, 00:14:09.68\00:14:12.95 and then I'd like for you to tell us 00:14:12.98\00:14:15.25 what TCI is all about. 00:14:15.28\00:14:18.62 Welcome. 00:14:18.65\00:14:19.99 I am Verlyn Benson, 00:14:20.02\00:14:21.36 Vice President for Academic Affairs at Weimar. 00:14:21.39\00:14:25.26 I'm Anita Benson, 00:14:25.29\00:14:26.63 the Executive Secretary at Weimar. 00:14:26.66\00:14:30.67 Hi, my name is Laura Boyer Nedley, 00:14:30.70\00:14:32.63 and I am a business faculty member. 00:14:32.67\00:14:35.90 My name is Rebecca Wong, 00:14:35.94\00:14:37.27 and I teach in the education department 00:14:37.31\00:14:39.34 as a faculty. 00:14:39.37\00:14:41.08 Hi, my name Joletta Red. 00:14:41.11\00:14:42.68 I am a business student at Weimar 00:14:42.71\00:14:45.21 focusing on organizational management. 00:14:45.25\00:14:48.45 So back to Benson, tell us what is TCI? 00:14:48.48\00:14:51.82 What are you actually doing? 00:14:51.85\00:14:54.56 My wife and I are just new at Weimar. 00:14:54.59\00:14:56.86 We arrived in January of this year. 00:14:56.89\00:15:00.06 We came in November to interview, 00:15:00.10\00:15:02.40 and I asked, "What is TCI?" 00:15:02.43\00:15:05.30 "I don't know myself, I'd never heard of it." 00:15:05.33\00:15:07.57 Well, you can tell that this is a new program. 00:15:07.60\00:15:10.71 In fact, just less than a year ago, 00:15:10.74\00:15:13.07 Elder Wilson came and helped launch this program. 00:15:13.11\00:15:18.05 And this is to get out into the community, 00:15:18.08\00:15:20.95 Total Community Involvement, instead a total member. 00:15:20.98\00:15:26.35 And so we are reaching out to the community. 00:15:26.39\00:15:29.89 And I think it's such a good program 00:15:29.92\00:15:31.66 because we all get in ruts in life. 00:15:31.69\00:15:34.23 And this is something to begin making a habit 00:15:34.26\00:15:37.20 early on in life. 00:15:37.23\00:15:38.57 We always talk about when you graduate, 00:15:38.60\00:15:40.44 when you're out there in the real world, 00:15:40.47\00:15:42.14 someday you'll begin witnessing, 00:15:42.17\00:15:43.51 you'll have a witnessing program, 00:15:43.54\00:15:44.87 it's never going to happen unless you start building now 00:15:44.91\00:15:47.24 those habits. 00:15:47.28\00:15:48.61 So you're out in the community. 00:15:48.64\00:15:49.98 So tell us what exactly are you doing in the community? 00:15:50.01\00:15:52.71 Well, we are reaching out to the community itself. 00:15:56.18\00:15:59.29 And I'd like Laura just to talk 00:15:59.32\00:16:00.89 about how we got started, 00:16:00.92\00:16:02.36 find out what the needs of the community are. 00:16:02.39\00:16:05.49 And so, Laura. 00:16:05.53\00:16:07.80 So we first learned how to do surveys. 00:16:07.83\00:16:10.27 So the faculty and students, we would go through a survey 00:16:10.30\00:16:13.77 and kind of survey each other. 00:16:13.80\00:16:15.57 But then we were able to be equipped 00:16:15.60\00:16:17.47 to go door-to-door and survey our neighbors 00:16:17.51\00:16:21.44 and find out what their needs were. 00:16:21.48\00:16:23.01 And so it could be anything from yard work, babysitting, 00:16:23.04\00:16:28.12 just someone who needed company, 00:16:28.15\00:16:29.82 people who needed moved, 00:16:29.85\00:16:31.19 basically just meeting people's basic needs. 00:16:31.22\00:16:34.09 So you actually have students that are going out 00:16:34.12\00:16:36.32 and doing yard work, 00:16:36.36\00:16:37.69 and do the faculty participate in this as well. 00:16:37.73\00:16:41.43 Absolutely. 00:16:41.46\00:16:42.83 In fact, my wife is a trained nurse 00:16:42.86\00:16:45.77 and she has gone out with the students. 00:16:45.80\00:16:48.94 I first became acquainted with TCI 00:16:48.97\00:16:50.74 when Pastor Don came over 00:16:50.77\00:16:52.51 and brought us his own group over to our house 00:16:52.54\00:16:54.64 and helped us move in. 00:16:54.68\00:16:56.01 And I said, "I want to belong to a group like that." 00:16:56.04\00:16:58.55 So I joined the nursing TCI group, 00:16:58.58\00:17:00.88 and we've been able to go out to the community shut-ins 00:17:00.92\00:17:04.32 out around our community, 00:17:04.35\00:17:05.75 and have been able to sing with them, 00:17:05.79\00:17:07.66 and pray with them, and have had 00:17:07.69\00:17:09.02 really good reviews for it. 00:17:09.06\00:17:10.56 So how often do you do this program? 00:17:10.59\00:17:14.33 We do it once a week, once every Wednesday afternoon. 00:17:14.36\00:17:17.90 So you've got a school full of busy students, 00:17:17.93\00:17:22.40 how do you manage to find one day a week 00:17:22.44\00:17:25.94 to do community service? 00:17:25.97\00:17:29.38 Well, we have had some kickback with it. 00:17:29.41\00:17:32.41 And we had one student in particular 00:17:32.45\00:17:35.38 that was in my group. 00:17:35.42\00:17:36.89 And every week she would come 00:17:36.92\00:17:39.32 with not really an attitude to serve. 00:17:39.35\00:17:41.52 And this one particular week, 00:17:41.56\00:17:43.43 she had a test the following day. 00:17:43.46\00:17:46.33 And I just felt impressed to ask her to be my partner, 00:17:46.36\00:17:50.87 even though her attitude, 00:17:50.90\00:17:52.23 you could just feel it in the bus. 00:17:52.27\00:17:54.07 And so I asked her to be my partner. 00:17:54.10\00:17:56.30 And I think she ended up getting caught up 00:17:56.34\00:17:59.07 because I caught her smiling, 00:17:59.11\00:18:01.54 and she seemed to be enjoying herself 00:18:01.58\00:18:04.31 going door-to-door, 00:18:04.35\00:18:06.11 and she seems to forget about her tests, 00:18:06.15\00:18:08.78 and her attitude totally changed. 00:18:08.82\00:18:11.12 And the next day, she did better on that test 00:18:11.15\00:18:14.12 than she had on any of her tests 00:18:14.16\00:18:15.99 the whole semester. 00:18:16.02\00:18:17.36 Wow! 00:18:17.39\00:18:18.73 So you got a little pushback at first, 00:18:18.76\00:18:20.10 but after people got involved, they found out, 00:18:20.13\00:18:22.43 "Hey, this isn't so bad after all. 00:18:22.46\00:18:24.23 In fact, this is actually a blessing." 00:18:24.27\00:18:26.30 So let's talk about that. 00:18:26.33\00:18:28.40 What kind of impact 00:18:28.44\00:18:29.84 has this program had on your community? 00:18:29.87\00:18:33.01 Well, it's had a really big impact on the community 00:18:33.04\00:18:36.04 and on the student body as well. 00:18:36.08\00:18:38.41 I can speak for myself. 00:18:38.45\00:18:40.25 My TCI group, we're a group of introverts. 00:18:40.28\00:18:44.12 And first day going out, very quiet on the van, 00:18:44.15\00:18:48.36 we prayed together, we sang together, 00:18:48.39\00:18:50.96 that was about it. 00:18:50.99\00:18:52.79 But throughout the year, throughout the semester, 00:18:52.83\00:18:55.46 we began to talk with each other, 00:18:55.50\00:18:57.40 we work together, 00:18:57.43\00:18:58.77 and we began to bond into a cohesive group. 00:18:58.80\00:19:01.70 And now I think we may be 00:19:01.74\00:19:03.64 one of the most vocal groups that we have 00:19:03.67\00:19:06.47 because we've had so much fun getting to know each other 00:19:06.51\00:19:09.48 as well as members of our community. 00:19:09.51\00:19:12.75 Let me just add to that just for a moment. 00:19:12.78\00:19:15.48 We came in January, 00:19:15.52\00:19:16.99 and one of the first things we had to do 00:19:17.02\00:19:18.45 is get our cars registered for California, 00:19:18.49\00:19:21.32 which means smog test and all the different things. 00:19:21.36\00:19:24.46 And I went to three different dealerships 00:19:24.49\00:19:27.10 for auto repairs. 00:19:27.13\00:19:29.03 Every one of them when they saw the registration 00:19:29.06\00:19:31.03 was going to be Weimar, California, 00:19:31.07\00:19:32.90 they said, "Hey, are you part of Weimar 00:19:32.93\00:19:35.97 in that TCI program?" 00:19:36.00\00:19:38.67 Now this is 12 miles away. 00:19:38.71\00:19:41.04 And they said, "We know about that program, 00:19:41.08\00:19:43.18 and you couldn't be doing a better thing. 00:19:43.21\00:19:45.31 In fact, I have a brother that lives close to you, 00:19:45.35\00:19:48.18 I want you to go see him. 00:19:48.22\00:19:49.68 I think your young people are the only ones 00:19:49.72\00:19:52.02 that could reach him socially." 00:19:52.05\00:19:54.36 So you're making an impact in the community. 00:19:54.39\00:19:57.29 Well, thank you so much for the work that you're doing. 00:19:57.33\00:19:59.96 May God bless you. 00:20:00.00\00:20:01.66 And I know that this program is going to have 00:20:01.70\00:20:04.73 a tremendous, tremendous impact 00:20:04.77\00:20:07.20 not only for here, but for eternity. 00:20:07.24\00:20:10.47 Thank you so much. 00:20:10.51\00:20:11.84 Joining me on the stage 00:20:18.05\00:20:19.55 are two very energetic young people 00:20:19.58\00:20:22.35 from New York. 00:20:22.38\00:20:23.72 They have a multifaceted ministry 00:20:23.75\00:20:26.39 called Heidi's Health Kitchen. 00:20:26.42\00:20:28.56 And they're just doing any number of things, 00:20:28.59\00:20:31.49 they're both Bible workers, 00:20:31.53\00:20:33.19 they are also passionate about health. 00:20:33.23\00:20:35.46 So, Heidi, tell us 00:20:35.50\00:20:37.37 what is Heidi's Health Kitchen all about? 00:20:37.40\00:20:41.10 Just tell us about that. 00:20:41.14\00:20:42.50 Sure, so Heidi's Health Kitchen is a health food ministry. 00:20:42.54\00:20:46.27 We give cooking classes, Bible studies, help lectures, 00:20:46.31\00:20:49.41 and we operate a pop-up restaurant, 00:20:49.44\00:20:52.01 an Adventist pop-up restaurant, and we're also a caterer, 00:20:52.05\00:20:55.38 and we do many things. 00:20:55.42\00:20:57.95 How do you find the time to do all of that? 00:20:57.99\00:21:01.66 Only by God's grace. 00:21:01.69\00:21:03.02 Amen. All right. 00:21:03.06\00:21:04.39 Well, I believe you brought a video to show. 00:21:04.43\00:21:06.49 Yes. 00:21:06.53\00:21:07.86 And so I think that will give us 00:21:07.90\00:21:09.23 a little bit of insight into what you're doing. 00:21:09.26\00:21:11.63 Sure. 00:21:11.67\00:21:13.00 It's a pleasure for me to have Heidi's Health Kitchen 00:21:14.37\00:21:18.17 as part of the Plant Pure Communities Restaurant family. 00:21:18.21\00:21:23.04 Four years ago in Brooklyn, God gave Ivan the ministry 00:21:23.08\00:21:27.95 and business model for Heidi's Health Kitchen. 00:21:27.98\00:21:31.75 Grace and I have been working with Heidi's Health Kitchen 00:21:31.79\00:21:33.96 for the past two years, 00:21:33.99\00:21:35.32 and it's been a blessing for me, 00:21:35.36\00:21:36.69 and a blessing for the community. 00:21:36.73\00:21:38.06 God gave Heidi the wisdom to develop CARUBIES, 00:21:39.56\00:21:43.16 a Carob Spread, 00:21:43.20\00:21:44.80 and several other delicious and healthy foods. 00:21:44.83\00:21:48.10 In 2016, Heidi's Health Kitchen began operating 00:21:52.34\00:21:56.51 as the first Adventist owned pop-up restaurant. 00:21:56.54\00:22:00.38 Highly recommend anyone trying it, 00:22:00.42\00:22:02.78 whether they are vegan or not vegan. 00:22:02.82\00:22:04.69 I'll share is that everything is natural and healthy for you. 00:22:04.72\00:22:09.52 The food was great. 00:22:09.56\00:22:10.89 The idea is heaven's file. 00:22:10.93\00:22:12.59 Heidi's Health Kitchen was started to fund 00:22:18.40\00:22:22.20 our ongoing Bible work in New York City, 00:22:22.24\00:22:25.94 which has now become a worldwide ministry 00:22:25.97\00:22:29.38 with Bible students from nine countries 00:22:29.41\00:22:33.11 on four continents leading to baptisms. 00:22:33.15\00:22:37.09 We've seen on something that was mentioned in there 00:23:24.10\00:23:26.80 talked about pop-up restaurants. 00:23:26.84\00:23:29.00 Now we've heard of pop-up posters, 00:23:29.04\00:23:31.01 we've heard of pop-up campers, 00:23:31.04\00:23:33.38 but what is a pop-up restaurant? 00:23:33.41\00:23:36.85 So a pop-up restaurant is something 00:23:36.88\00:23:38.35 that operates periodically. 00:23:38.38\00:23:40.35 We, although our goal is eventually to open 00:23:40.38\00:23:42.68 an Adventist restaurant, especially in New York City, 00:23:42.72\00:23:45.15 there hasn't been one for over nine years, 00:23:45.19\00:23:47.86 we're just not there yet. 00:23:47.89\00:23:49.32 And so a couple years ago, Ivan and I were praying 00:23:49.36\00:23:53.03 about what we could do 00:23:53.06\00:23:54.46 with what God has put in our hands 00:23:54.50\00:23:56.23 and God impressed Ivan. 00:23:56.26\00:23:57.70 God gave this idea to me. 00:23:57.73\00:24:00.07 And I contacted a gentleman 00:24:00.10\00:24:02.77 or actually a couple who owned a coffee house 00:24:02.80\00:24:05.77 because God impressed upon me in a dream 00:24:05.81\00:24:08.54 to go and talk to this couple who in the restaurant 00:24:08.58\00:24:11.15 to rent the restaurant when they are closed 00:24:11.18\00:24:13.78 and operate as a Heidi's Health Kitchen, 00:24:13.82\00:24:15.85 Adventist pop-up restaurant. 00:24:15.88\00:24:17.22 Wow! So this is a heaven inspired idea. 00:24:17.25\00:24:20.49 Amen. 00:24:20.52\00:24:21.99 All right, so we only have a few minutes remaining, 00:24:22.02\00:24:25.06 and I want to be sure 00:24:25.09\00:24:26.43 that we talk about another aspect of ministry. 00:24:26.46\00:24:28.76 Yeah. 00:24:28.80\00:24:30.47 Ivan, I understand that your ministry extends 00:24:30.50\00:24:33.77 far beyond New York, in fact, into the Middle East. 00:24:33.80\00:24:37.41 Please tell us about that. Sure. 00:24:37.44\00:24:39.27 So as you all would have seen, 00:24:39.31\00:24:41.21 we have Bible students around the world. 00:24:41.24\00:24:43.18 We offer Bible studies over phone or social media. 00:24:43.21\00:24:46.78 And we received or I received a message 00:24:46.82\00:24:49.98 on a Facebook page for which I was a Facebook admin. 00:24:50.02\00:24:53.59 It was a Facebook page 00:24:53.62\00:24:54.96 of a church named Bicholim Seventh-day Adventist Church, 00:24:54.99\00:24:58.13 and it was from a Muslim gentleman, 00:24:58.16\00:25:02.60 and he asked where we are gathering 00:25:02.63\00:25:04.27 and when we are gathering. 00:25:04.30\00:25:05.63 I said, we are gathering in Manhasset on Saturdays. 00:25:05.67\00:25:08.84 And then I asked him, "Where are you from?" 00:25:08.87\00:25:10.21 And he mentioned the name of his location, 00:25:10.24\00:25:11.97 and turns out it was from Middle East. 00:25:12.01\00:25:14.38 He lives in Middle East, and he has a group, 00:25:14.41\00:25:16.44 and they are Sabbath keepers. 00:25:16.48\00:25:18.31 And they from the Sabbath truth while researching the Bible. 00:25:18.35\00:25:22.75 They left Islam and they are now Christians, 00:25:22.78\00:25:24.89 and they thought no one else in the world 00:25:24.92\00:25:27.29 knows about the Sabbath message. 00:25:27.32\00:25:29.89 So how did he happen upon this particular website? 00:25:29.92\00:25:34.20 Because he was searching for a Jewish synagogue 00:25:34.23\00:25:37.27 'cause he couldn't find 00:25:37.30\00:25:38.63 any Christian places of worship on Saturday. 00:25:38.67\00:25:41.37 And when he searched Bicholim Seventh-day Adventist 00:25:41.40\00:25:43.94 Facebook page popped up in the search result. 00:25:43.97\00:25:46.34 And you just happen to be able to respond to him. 00:25:46.37\00:25:48.71 Yeah. 00:25:48.74\00:25:50.08 So I understand there's a group there that's meeting. 00:25:50.11\00:25:51.85 Yes. 00:25:51.88\00:25:53.31 Tell us about that. 00:25:53.35\00:25:54.68 Yes, we also have sent them 00:25:54.72\00:25:56.58 some literature in Farsi and Arabic to that country, 00:25:56.62\00:25:59.99 and we also have sent... 00:26:00.02\00:26:01.36 It is written Bible studies in Farsi and Arabic. 00:26:01.39\00:26:04.96 And we actually have a conversation over the phone 00:26:04.99\00:26:09.33 or Bible studies over the phone, 00:26:09.36\00:26:10.70 actually a video call. 00:26:10.73\00:26:12.20 And we also have translators from their own community 00:26:12.23\00:26:15.00 who were Muslims until two months ago, 00:26:15.04\00:26:17.44 and now as they start translating, 00:26:17.47\00:26:19.44 when they found, 00:26:19.47\00:26:20.81 especially the deep love that God has for His children 00:26:20.84\00:26:24.11 that touched their hearts. 00:26:24.15\00:26:25.48 Wow. 00:26:25.51\00:26:26.85 And the translators are also interested 00:26:26.88\00:26:28.22 in coming to the truth. 00:26:28.25\00:26:29.68 And we right now have over 31 of them 00:26:29.72\00:26:32.75 gathering in that region in the Middle East. 00:26:32.79\00:26:34.69 Wow, 31. Thirty one. 00:26:34.72\00:26:36.42 So where do you see all of this leading to? 00:26:36.46\00:26:41.23 When God gives us means, we would like to do two things. 00:26:41.26\00:26:43.83 One for the business, we would like to, 00:26:43.87\00:26:45.60 of course, have food truck in New York. 00:26:45.63\00:26:48.17 The next point is to have a business setup 00:26:48.20\00:26:51.77 of Heidi's Health Kitchen in the Middle East, 00:26:51.81\00:26:54.41 and if possible, have a cultural center as well, 00:26:54.44\00:26:57.55 so that people in the region 00:26:57.58\00:26:59.05 will not be afraid to connect with Christians. 00:26:59.08\00:27:01.85 Wow! 00:27:01.88\00:27:03.22 Well, may God bless you 00:27:03.25\00:27:04.59 in the ministry that you're doing, 00:27:04.62\00:27:05.95 and God has certainly opened doors 00:27:05.99\00:27:08.46 that too many of us are closed, 00:27:08.49\00:27:12.29 but thank you for allowing Him to use you. 00:27:12.33\00:27:14.96 Thank you for having us. Thank you. 00:27:15.00\00:27:16.33 We have many more testimonies that we could share, 00:27:16.36\00:27:18.00 so we encourage you to come to our booth number 216, 00:27:18.03\00:27:21.17 try our Carob products 00:27:21.20\00:27:22.87 and we'd love to share some stories with you. 00:27:22.90\00:27:24.47 Yes, their carob products are yummy. 00:27:24.51\00:27:26.71 And I understand, before I let you go, 00:27:26.74\00:27:28.74 there's something coming up next. 00:27:28.78\00:27:30.78 Well, actually, it's this month. 00:27:30.81\00:27:32.15 So would you like to tell us about that? 00:27:32.18\00:27:33.52 September 23rd. 00:27:33.55\00:27:34.88 It's actually September 23rd, 00:27:34.92\00:27:36.25 the very first New York City Plant-based summit 00:27:36.28\00:27:39.85 hosted by Heidi's Health Kitchen. 00:27:39.89\00:27:41.72 And we have Rico Hill as our health evangelist. 00:27:41.76\00:27:45.49 And also the Brooklyn borough president 00:27:45.53\00:27:47.26 has agreed to be the keynote speaker for this event. 00:27:47.30\00:27:50.67 All right, so visit them in their booth, 00:27:50.70\00:27:52.73 and you'll find out more about them. 00:27:52.77\00:27:54.37 Yeah, absolutely. Thank you so much. 00:27:54.40\00:27:56.07 Thank you. 00:27:56.10\00:27:57.44 Our next guests are no strangers to ASI. 00:28:01.18\00:28:06.11 I have here with me Brent 00:28:06.15\00:28:09.32 and Brenda Palmer. 00:28:09.35\00:28:11.72 Brenda actually serves as ASI's financial vice president, 00:28:11.75\00:28:17.96 and they've been involved with ASI for some time. 00:28:17.99\00:28:22.26 But they've had some, a series of traumatic events 00:28:22.30\00:28:25.97 that have happened over the past few months. 00:28:26.00\00:28:27.90 So, Brenda, tell us beginning in September 2016, 00:28:27.94\00:28:33.71 what began to happen? 00:28:33.74\00:28:36.01 Well, Brent was traveling to a job site in Texas, 00:28:36.04\00:28:39.15 and he totaled our car. 00:28:39.18\00:28:42.22 And then in January 2017, when he went to do the job, 00:28:42.25\00:28:47.19 a young man hit him and totaled our pickup. 00:28:47.22\00:28:50.69 So then later on, after we've replaced our car, 00:28:50.73\00:28:54.96 somebody hit him on Friday afternoon also. 00:28:55.00\00:29:00.07 So did you ever wonder, 00:29:00.10\00:29:04.11 is somebody out to get me or why me, 00:29:04.14\00:29:06.78 why is all this happening? 00:29:06.81\00:29:08.54 Well, Brent's a good driver. 00:29:08.58\00:29:10.41 So yes, I did. 00:29:10.45\00:29:11.95 In fact, that Sabbath after he got hit, 00:29:11.98\00:29:15.25 the third time I talked to the Lord about, 00:29:15.28\00:29:19.09 I said, "Is the devil trying to do something 00:29:19.12\00:29:21.32 or what is actually happening here?" 00:29:21.36\00:29:23.53 And it was kind of like in my prayer that God said, 00:29:23.56\00:29:26.63 "You know, Brent belongs to me, 00:29:26.66\00:29:29.20 and whatever happens is my will." 00:29:29.23\00:29:32.43 That was quite a Sabbath afternoon. 00:29:32.47\00:29:34.80 Amen. 00:29:34.84\00:29:36.17 Okay, so then June 23rd comes, it's the middle of the night, 00:29:36.20\00:29:41.61 you're fast asleep, and the phone rings. 00:29:41.64\00:29:45.71 The phone rings, and I wake up and I barely hearing it. 00:29:45.75\00:29:49.28 And it's, "This is the emergency room in Amarillo, 00:29:49.32\00:29:52.39 your husband has just been airlifted in, 00:29:52.42\00:29:55.62 and I will hop back to that Sabbath afternoon 00:29:55.66\00:29:57.59 when I had given Brent's life to God 00:29:57.63\00:30:00.96 and I said, "It's okay." 00:30:01.00\00:30:03.37 And then she handed the phone to Brent, 00:30:03.40\00:30:05.67 and I had him back. 00:30:05.70\00:30:09.10 So despite that, you were trusting and believing 00:30:09.14\00:30:14.48 that God was with you 00:30:14.51\00:30:16.44 and with him and that saved his life. 00:30:16.48\00:30:19.45 It was. 00:30:19.48\00:30:20.82 We spent 15 days in Texas, 00:30:20.85\00:30:22.32 which is 15 hours from our home. 00:30:22.35\00:30:28.09 Then to get him home, 00:30:28.12\00:30:29.46 we had to take an 18-hour ambulance drive 00:30:29.49\00:30:32.49 straight through. 00:30:32.53\00:30:33.86 We got home at 4 o'clock Sabbath morning, 00:30:33.90\00:30:37.03 and we had no medical attention for another 3 or 4 days 00:30:37.07\00:30:40.70 before all the paperwork caught up from him. 00:30:40.74\00:30:42.90 It was a very interesting experience. 00:30:42.94\00:30:46.21 And it's been a long road to recovery, hasn't it? 00:30:46.24\00:30:49.64 Yes, it's been a year. 00:30:49.68\00:30:51.95 He has 22 pins in his left arm. 00:30:51.98\00:30:57.15 He has several pins and metal in his leg, 00:30:57.19\00:31:00.89 and his left hip is... 00:31:00.92\00:31:03.32 The doctor says it's healed enough 00:31:03.36\00:31:04.89 that we can do a hip replacement after ASI. 00:31:04.93\00:31:08.46 But it's been a journey. 00:31:08.50\00:31:11.07 So something like this not only has 00:31:11.10\00:31:13.90 obviously an emotional and physical impact, 00:31:13.94\00:31:16.81 but it can also have a financial impact. 00:31:16.84\00:31:19.17 Tell us about that. 00:31:19.21\00:31:20.91 Well, I really don't know how all this happened. 00:31:20.94\00:31:24.78 Someday, I'm going to go back and look and see 00:31:24.81\00:31:26.61 how the bills got paid, insurance covered everything. 00:31:26.65\00:31:30.79 But of course, we have a business 00:31:30.82\00:31:32.15 and I had to cover our employees all along too. 00:31:32.19\00:31:35.19 And so any medical disability checks that he was getting 00:31:35.22\00:31:39.26 weren't even covering our payroll. 00:31:39.29\00:31:42.90 So this was in June 23, by the time of October, 00:31:42.93\00:31:47.94 1st of November, I thought, "You know, we're contractors, 00:31:47.97\00:31:51.14 Brent's doing a little better, home health it's done, let's... 00:31:51.17\00:31:55.31 I'm not going to pray about something, it was jobs, 00:31:55.34\00:31:57.85 but I'm going to ask the Lord that we need some now. 00:31:57.88\00:32:00.48 I'm ready." 00:32:00.52\00:32:01.85 So I went out hiking and said, 00:32:01.88\00:32:04.05 "Dear Lord, thank you for some jobs." 00:32:04.09\00:32:05.69 Well, you know, by the time I got home, 00:32:05.72\00:32:08.59 Brent was on the phone, he had a job 00:32:08.62\00:32:09.99 that need to be done right then. 00:32:10.03\00:32:11.79 We do very large nursing homes and retirement centers. 00:32:11.83\00:32:15.00 So we're not talking about a little job, 00:32:15.03\00:32:16.73 these are big jobs. 00:32:16.77\00:32:18.13 And by that evening, he had a second job, 00:32:18.17\00:32:21.17 by Sabbath, we had a third job, and by the next Thursday, 00:32:21.20\00:32:23.64 we had four jobs, all of which had to be done by Christmas. 00:32:23.67\00:32:27.11 Amen. God is good. But the story's not over yet. 00:32:27.14\00:32:31.71 So if all this wasn't enough, 00:32:31.75\00:32:34.98 what was the next thing that happened? 00:32:35.02\00:32:38.29 The next step in our journey, 00:32:38.32\00:32:42.02 I've taken Brent to outpatient therapy 00:32:42.06\00:32:45.29 that morning, 00:32:45.33\00:32:46.66 after we've gotten our fourth job. 00:32:46.70\00:32:48.66 And in the meantime, 00:32:48.70\00:32:50.67 we'd had a little electrical problem in the shop, 00:32:50.70\00:32:53.03 we manufacture hardwood moldings 00:32:53.07\00:32:55.30 and then install them. 00:32:55.34\00:32:56.67 So anyway, the equipment was going bad. 00:32:56.71\00:32:59.04 And so as I picked him up, I got a phone call, 00:32:59.07\00:33:02.98 and the shop was on fire. 00:33:03.01\00:33:06.25 We lost everything that day, 00:33:06.28\00:33:11.05 except each other and God. 00:33:11.09\00:33:14.86 You know, a lot of people would be very discouraged 00:33:14.89\00:33:18.33 having gone through something like that. 00:33:18.36\00:33:20.00 Some people even give up on God. 00:33:20.03\00:33:22.36 What kept you going? 00:33:22.40\00:33:23.77 I mean, you're always smiling, you're always positive. 00:33:23.80\00:33:27.40 And what is your secret, Brenda? 00:33:27.44\00:33:31.71 My secret is giving it all to God. 00:33:31.74\00:33:34.71 You know, another thing that morning, 00:33:34.74\00:33:37.28 it's always important to ask God. 00:33:37.31\00:33:38.81 The morning that Brent got ready 00:33:38.85\00:33:40.18 to leave for Amarillo, 00:33:40.22\00:33:43.02 I had thought, "You know what, I'm caught up, 00:33:43.05\00:33:44.92 I got ASI taking care of. 00:33:44.95\00:33:46.29 I'm going to go with him," 00:33:46.32\00:33:47.66 because we didn't have a job then. 00:33:47.69\00:33:49.02 So I ran up to the office, I was going to get ready to go 00:33:49.06\00:33:51.19 and I thought, "No, I need to ask God." 00:33:51.23\00:33:53.43 And I asked God, sort of kind of off the top of my head. 00:33:53.46\00:33:56.40 "I'd like to go with Brent," 00:33:56.43\00:33:57.77 and immediately I had the impression, "Don't go." 00:33:57.80\00:34:00.27 And I spoke out loud. 00:34:00.30\00:34:01.97 I said, "God, I didn't want to hear that." 00:34:02.00\00:34:04.74 What would have happened if I'd gone with him? 00:34:04.77\00:34:08.41 So, Brent, tell us 00:34:08.44\00:34:10.35 how has this whole thing impacted you, 00:34:10.38\00:34:12.58 and what has carried you through this experience? 00:34:12.61\00:34:16.25 Well, for myself, I wanted to say thank you to ASI. 00:34:16.28\00:34:20.96 You've been very supportive during this time, 00:34:20.99\00:34:23.83 and sent leadership out to the hospital there in Texas. 00:34:23.86\00:34:27.66 And I really appreciate that. 00:34:27.70\00:34:30.13 There is a statement that I learned 00:34:30.17\00:34:31.57 at oak cabin many years ago. 00:34:31.60\00:34:33.17 It says, "Above the distractions of earth, 00:34:33.20\00:34:35.17 God sits enthroned, 00:34:35.20\00:34:36.54 and from His great and calm eternity, 00:34:36.57\00:34:38.37 He orders that which His providence sees best." 00:34:38.41\00:34:42.24 Whatever happens in our life... 00:34:42.28\00:34:44.31 Yes, we have Business Unusual going on in our life this year. 00:34:44.35\00:34:47.75 We do. 00:34:47.78\00:34:49.12 It's a little bit different unusual. 00:34:49.15\00:34:51.02 I really don't know what God has next for us 00:34:51.05\00:34:53.09 completely at this point. 00:34:53.12\00:34:55.06 But I know the other point 00:34:55.09\00:34:57.03 that I want to make very quickly 00:34:57.06\00:34:58.73 is that at a time that you think not, 00:34:58.76\00:35:02.03 the Son of Man cometh. 00:35:02.06\00:35:04.00 I had the second coming that night, 00:35:04.03\00:35:05.90 I did not anticipate it, I was awakened. 00:35:05.93\00:35:10.01 I never knew I had the wreck until I was awakened. 00:35:10.04\00:35:12.77 And that would have been the Second Coming if Christ 00:35:12.81\00:35:15.14 did not awaken me. 00:35:15.18\00:35:16.58 So each of you, I hope that we'll all live our life 00:35:16.61\00:35:19.71 because the Second Coming is an instant away 00:35:19.75\00:35:23.22 and He's always there. 00:35:23.25\00:35:24.59 Amen.
