Good evening, ASI family. 00:00:21.05\00:00:24.65 We've been inspired 00:00:24.69\00:00:26.02 as we've heard that we are Called, 00:00:26.05\00:00:28.32 Chosen, and Committed 00:00:28.36\00:00:30.26 but I was thinking of the words of Jesus, 00:00:30.29\00:00:32.26 He said, "Many are called but few are..." 00:00:32.29\00:00:35.76 And I wonder why that was the case 00:00:35.80\00:00:38.57 and then I realized that not everyone responds to the call. 00:00:38.60\00:00:44.24 Tonight, we're going to be challenged by the Word of God 00:00:44.27\00:00:47.48 and I'm thankful that we can not only say, 00:00:47.51\00:00:50.95 "Lord, I accept the call to be chosen 00:00:50.98\00:00:54.88 but by Your grace and the power of Your Spirit 00:00:54.92\00:00:57.09 I want to be committed." 00:00:57.12\00:00:58.72 So whether you're joining us 00:00:58.75\00:01:00.09 via television, internet, or here in Houston, Texas, 00:01:00.12\00:01:03.86 let's open our hearts to the Spirit of God 00:01:03.89\00:01:06.39 and be blessed. 00:01:06.43\00:01:07.76 What do you say? Amen. 00:01:07.80\00:01:10.50 Let's stand for prayer 00:01:10.53\00:01:14.54 and let's bow our heads and worship together. 00:01:14.57\00:01:18.04 Dear Father in heaven, 00:01:18.07\00:01:19.41 we thank You so much for our family here, 00:01:19.44\00:01:23.14 each one of us. 00:01:23.18\00:01:24.55 And we want to praise You together and thank You. 00:01:24.58\00:01:27.05 You're such an awesome God, 00:01:27.08\00:01:29.45 and You fill our hearts with Your unfailing love, 00:01:29.48\00:01:33.96 and we bless Your name. 00:01:33.99\00:01:36.09 And we just pray that now 00:01:36.12\00:01:38.23 as we are coming close to the Sabbath 00:01:38.26\00:01:40.06 that we can release all the things 00:01:40.10\00:01:43.06 that bind us to this earth, 00:01:43.10\00:01:45.47 which include our anxieties, and concerns, and cares, 00:01:45.50\00:01:49.44 and just draw us heavenward through Your Spirit. 00:01:49.47\00:01:52.87 Open our hearts to receive Your Word 00:01:52.91\00:01:54.98 and I pray for our speaker tonight 00:01:55.01\00:01:57.25 that he would be filled with Your Spirit 00:01:57.28\00:01:59.28 and we would be blessed to be in Your presence. 00:01:59.31\00:02:02.85 In Jesus' name, amen. 00:02:02.88\00:02:04.55 Kyle, we've been working 00:02:10.73\00:02:12.06 with the North American division, 00:02:12.09\00:02:13.76 we've been trying to figure out 00:02:13.80\00:02:15.80 how we can work more effectively together. 00:02:15.83\00:02:18.20 That's right. 00:02:18.23\00:02:19.57 This entire week we've been talking about 00:02:19.60\00:02:21.04 how the work of God on this earth won't be finished 00:02:21.07\00:02:23.67 until lay people join hands with the church 00:02:23.71\00:02:26.57 to finish the work. 00:02:26.61\00:02:27.94 And ASI is actually 00:02:27.98\00:02:29.31 a part of the North American division, Steve. 00:02:29.34\00:02:30.91 Amen. 00:02:30.95\00:02:32.28 We're a part of our church, 00:02:32.31\00:02:33.65 and we're here to support our church, 00:02:33.68\00:02:35.12 and to work together to finish the work. 00:02:35.15\00:02:37.25 So one of the initiatives that's happening 00:02:37.29\00:02:39.62 across the North American division right now 00:02:39.65\00:02:42.09 is a church planting initiative. 00:02:42.12\00:02:44.96 We have with us tonight Elder Jose Cortez 00:02:44.99\00:02:48.26 who is our director of... ministerial director. 00:02:48.30\00:02:52.50 How many churches have been planted 00:02:52.53\00:02:54.54 in the North American division in the last year? 00:02:54.57\00:02:58.07 Last year for the glory of God, 00:02:58.11\00:03:00.58 we had the opportunity to see 00:03:00.61\00:03:01.94 250 new church plants right here in North America. 00:03:01.98\00:03:06.18 Praise God. And that is a blessing. 00:03:06.21\00:03:07.72 Wow, that's amazing, 00:03:07.75\00:03:09.08 250 new churches in the North American division. 00:03:09.12\00:03:11.29 And this year up to this month 00:03:11.32\00:03:13.49 we have over 100 new churches this year in North America. 00:03:13.52\00:03:16.83 So between last year and this year 350. 00:03:16.86\00:03:19.33 That is a great thing. Okay. 00:03:19.36\00:03:20.70 But let me ask you a question, 00:03:20.73\00:03:22.06 how many churches do we need to plant... 00:03:22.10\00:03:24.17 Well, no, how many churches 00:03:24.20\00:03:25.53 we have in the North American division first of all? 00:03:25.57\00:03:26.90 Between churches, companies, and groups 00:03:26.94\00:03:29.60 we have about 6,700 right now 00:03:29.64\00:03:31.97 in the North American divisions and that is great. 00:03:32.01\00:03:33.44 Six thousand seven hundred? 00:03:33.48\00:03:35.34 Going towards 7,000. 00:03:35.38\00:03:36.85 That is correct. That is pretty amazing. 00:03:36.88\00:03:38.21 How many do we need to get a church 00:03:38.25\00:03:39.81 in every town of the North American division? 00:03:39.85\00:03:42.58 You see, Steve, in order to make sure that we have 00:03:42.62\00:03:45.35 that every person living in North America 00:03:45.39\00:03:47.52 has access to the gospel through an Adventist church, 00:03:47.56\00:03:50.96 we would need to have one church 00:03:50.99\00:03:52.63 for every 25,000 people. 00:03:52.66\00:03:54.80 That would be above 40,000. That's a big church. 00:03:54.83\00:03:56.77 That would be above 40,000, 00:03:56.80\00:03:58.63 no, no, one church for every 25,000 people in the community. 00:03:58.67\00:04:02.20 Well, I think we should convert them all though. 00:04:02.24\00:04:04.21 I think we should but we would need right now 14,000 churches. 00:04:04.24\00:04:09.28 Fourteen thousand, we only have seven. 00:04:09.31\00:04:11.01 We only have seven, so we have long ways to go. 00:04:11.05\00:04:13.48 That's why we need to work together. 00:04:13.52\00:04:14.98 Amen, amen. 00:04:15.02\00:04:16.75 Well, anyway, we're working on this, 00:04:16.79\00:04:18.12 we're talking about how we can be more effective. 00:04:18.15\00:04:19.82 Elder Jackson, tell us what do we, 00:04:19.85\00:04:21.66 you know, what do we really need to focus on here? 00:04:21.69\00:04:24.13 You know the reality is and all of us are aware of it 00:04:24.16\00:04:28.53 that Jesus is coming soon. 00:04:28.56\00:04:30.57 Amen. 00:04:30.60\00:04:31.93 That the work won't be finished for any of us 00:04:31.97\00:04:35.20 until it's finished by all of us. 00:04:35.24\00:04:37.11 Amen. 00:04:37.14\00:04:38.47 And the time has come for us 00:04:38.51\00:04:39.84 and I appreciate the invitation, 00:04:39.87\00:04:41.81 I appreciate being here. 00:04:41.84\00:04:43.98 But there's a reality that goes like this, 00:04:44.01\00:04:46.11 every one of us sitting in this auditorium tonight, 00:04:46.15\00:04:48.78 and there may be some guests and praise God for that, 00:04:48.82\00:04:51.59 we are all members 00:04:51.62\00:04:52.95 of the Seventh-day Adventist church. 00:04:52.99\00:04:54.49 We are all a part of the remnant church 00:04:54.52\00:04:57.66 God's movement in these last days 00:04:57.69\00:05:00.66 and we must pull together. 00:05:00.70\00:05:04.00 That's what God's ideal is for us. 00:05:04.03\00:05:06.10 Amen. Amen. 00:05:06.13\00:05:07.94 So as we move to the future, 00:05:07.97\00:05:10.44 we are working in a coordinated way 00:05:10.47\00:05:12.97 and we hope to return to you ASI family 00:05:13.01\00:05:16.58 with some very real plans that will include real places 00:05:16.61\00:05:20.62 where they need Seventh-day Adventist churches 00:05:20.65\00:05:22.95 and real people that will go there 00:05:22.98\00:05:25.15 and help to establish 00:05:25.19\00:05:26.52 Seventh-day Adventist churches in these towns 00:05:26.55\00:05:28.89 across the United States of America, 00:05:28.92\00:05:30.79 so that everyone in North America 00:05:30.83\00:05:33.23 can have access to a Seventh-day Adventist church. 00:05:33.26\00:05:36.06 Ellen White told us plainly 00:05:36.10\00:05:38.87 that our witness should be lifted up 00:05:38.90\00:05:41.57 in every town and city. 00:05:41.60\00:05:44.41 We need to work together to plant churches 00:05:44.44\00:05:46.94 in areas where there are none today. 00:05:46.98\00:05:49.04 God will be honored 00:05:49.08\00:05:50.41 and we will fulfill His dream and His mission. 00:05:50.45\00:05:53.58 Amen. Thank you ASI family. 00:05:53.62\00:05:55.62 It was 16 years ago, 16 years ago this summer 00:05:58.72\00:06:01.99 that I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. 00:06:02.02\00:06:04.33 Interestingly enough a month later, 00:06:04.36\00:06:05.79 I wound up for my very first ASI Convention 00:06:05.83\00:06:08.90 in Sacramento, California. 00:06:08.93\00:06:11.00 And to be so inspired to see what church members 00:06:11.03\00:06:14.00 are doing to further the mission of Jesus. 00:06:14.04\00:06:16.30 I believe the power for that mission 00:06:16.34\00:06:19.01 is only found in a personal connection with Jesus Christ. 00:06:19.04\00:06:23.28 I'm here with my friends Bob and Audrey Folkenberg. 00:06:23.31\00:06:25.68 Now you're no strangers to the ASI family, 00:06:25.71\00:06:28.28 but tell us for those who may be here for the first time, 00:06:28.32\00:06:30.39 what you folks have been doing for the last five years? 00:06:30.42\00:06:32.95 For the last five years, 00:06:38.73\00:06:40.06 the Lord has called us back to work in China 00:06:40.10\00:06:42.76 with our over 4,000 churches 00:06:42.80\00:06:44.63 to preach the good news of Jesus Christ 00:06:44.67\00:06:47.30 to the 1.4 billion people living there. 00:06:47.34\00:06:51.14 One point four billion people, 00:06:51.17\00:06:52.51 I can't imagine the challenges that presents. 00:06:52.54\00:06:55.28 Can you tell us a little bit about 00:06:55.31\00:06:56.64 what that looks like practically? 00:06:56.68\00:06:58.81 Well, humanism, secularism 00:06:58.85\00:07:02.18 are just growing threats to society 00:07:02.22\00:07:05.02 but also the church. 00:07:05.05\00:07:06.62 And so you see a church that's growing, 00:07:06.65\00:07:09.42 we also see a church 00:07:09.46\00:07:10.79 that is facing these in their witness 00:07:10.83\00:07:12.86 as well as even in their heart and soul. 00:07:12.89\00:07:15.20 So what are the great needs that we have in the church 00:07:15.23\00:07:17.33 is developing new methods to reach 00:07:17.37\00:07:19.57 this kind of people in China 00:07:19.60\00:07:21.07 as well as to pray for revival in our own churches in China. 00:07:21.10\00:07:25.77 Now, Audrey, you are Prayer Ministries director 00:07:25.81\00:07:29.54 for the entire country 00:07:29.58\00:07:31.35 and you've taken the ten days of prayer initiative 00:07:31.38\00:07:33.28 that the General Conference 00:07:33.31\00:07:34.95 Prayer Ministries Department produces 00:07:34.98\00:07:36.85 and you've adapted that to the context in China. 00:07:36.89\00:07:39.45 Can you tell us a little bit about what you did? 00:07:39.49\00:07:42.29 Sure, it's exciting what God is doing with the material 00:07:42.32\00:07:45.43 that's been made available to us. 00:07:45.46\00:07:47.40 For 2014 we took all the material 00:07:47.43\00:07:50.37 and we translated it into a simplified 00:07:50.40\00:07:52.43 and traditional Chinese characters, 00:07:52.47\00:07:54.44 and we put it on websites across China 00:07:54.47\00:07:56.77 as well as sent it out through our leaders in the office, 00:07:56.81\00:07:59.81 to the leaders across China. 00:07:59.84\00:08:01.71 Then in 2015 and 2016, we did a little different, 00:08:01.74\00:08:05.28 we said, "Hey, not only are we going to make it available, 00:08:05.31\00:08:08.15 encourage it across our territory 00:08:08.18\00:08:10.95 but we're also going to utilize it in our office." 00:08:10.99\00:08:14.59 So with all the traveling that's done, 00:08:14.62\00:08:17.09 I approached our administrative team 00:08:17.13\00:08:18.79 and I said, "Could we have a one week moratorium." 00:08:18.83\00:08:22.40 Travel moratorium in January. 00:08:22.43\00:08:24.93 And we had it, we had a week of prayer 00:08:24.97\00:08:27.50 and we used the 10 Days of Prayer material 00:08:27.54\00:08:29.64 in 2015 and 2016 00:08:29.67\00:08:31.04 for our office week of prayer. 00:08:31.07\00:08:32.81 And it was such a blessing 00:08:32.84\00:08:34.24 every day, morning and afternoon to meet. 00:08:34.28\00:08:37.05 Twenty seventeen, for this year we bumped up 00:08:37.08\00:08:39.31 our game a little bit as we got around the table 00:08:39.35\00:08:41.95 and I was reviewing the material, 00:08:41.98\00:08:43.82 it occurred to me that packaging is everything. 00:08:43.85\00:08:47.26 So we took the material for 10 Days of Prayer 00:08:47.29\00:08:50.19 and put it into a booklet form, 00:08:50.23\00:08:52.86 and all across China this was sent 00:08:52.89\00:08:55.03 almost 48,000 copies 00:08:55.06\00:08:57.43 which is kind of a drop in the bucket. 00:08:57.47\00:08:59.23 That's what our goal is going to be about 400,000 next year. 00:08:59.27\00:09:02.87 But we issued this and we sent it across China 00:09:02.90\00:09:05.84 in addition to using it in the office, 00:09:05.87\00:09:08.08 they used it across China and fell in love with it. 00:09:08.11\00:09:10.35 Amen. 00:09:10.38\00:09:11.71 So Bob is Mission President, 00:09:11.75\00:09:13.08 you're hearing reports 00:09:13.11\00:09:14.45 of what 10 Days of Prayer 00:09:14.48\00:09:15.82 is doing all across the country. 00:09:15.85\00:09:17.19 Can you share with us just a little bit tonight? 00:09:17.22\00:09:19.15 Just a few weeks ago, 00:09:19.19\00:09:20.52 we brought the leaders of China together for a meeting 00:09:20.56\00:09:23.09 and we invited them to share 00:09:23.12\00:09:24.86 what God was doing in each of their territories 00:09:24.89\00:09:27.43 and unprompted in any way, 00:09:27.46\00:09:29.56 probably two-thirds of them begin to say, 00:09:29.60\00:09:32.53 they began their reports by saying, 00:09:32.57\00:09:34.07 "Let us tell you about the 10 Days of Prayer 00:09:34.10\00:09:36.94 and what a difference it has made in our church life." 00:09:36.97\00:09:39.87 They use it in small groups, 00:09:39.91\00:09:41.24 they use it in their house churches, 00:09:41.28\00:09:42.61 they use it in their leadership teams. 00:09:42.64\00:09:44.41 Even one pastor in the island of Hainan said 00:09:44.45\00:09:48.08 that somehow another pastor 00:09:48.12\00:09:50.15 of another denomination got a hold of it, 00:09:50.19\00:09:52.25 came to them and said, 00:09:52.29\00:09:53.62 "Can we order a 100 copies of this for our church?" 00:09:53.66\00:09:56.62 Amen. 00:09:56.66\00:09:57.99 Seventh-day Adventists this evening, 00:09:58.03\00:09:59.36 do you need power in your life, in your congregations. 00:09:59.39\00:10:02.30 This is not about a program, 00:10:02.33\00:10:04.27 this is not about performing a ritual, 00:10:04.30\00:10:07.04 this is about connecting person to Lord Jesus 00:10:07.07\00:10:09.60 and experiencing His power flowing through us 00:10:09.64\00:10:11.84 into our ministries to reach the world before Jesus comes. 00:10:11.87\00:10:15.24 Wanna invite you to 00:10:21.08\00:10:22.42 all over the world this coming January. 00:10:22.45\00:10:24.65 God bless you. 00:10:24.69\00:10:27.69 Few weeks ago, I had a very interesting experience. 00:10:27.72\00:10:32.16 In Taiwan, I was eating with one of the pastors. 00:10:32.19\00:10:36.23 While we were eating, he took out his smart phone 00:10:36.26\00:10:39.73 and he showed me some pictures 00:10:39.77\00:10:42.04 and he said, "I baptized this person last week." 00:10:42.07\00:10:45.84 And then he showed the other person, 00:10:45.87\00:10:47.54 "I baptized this person and that person." 00:10:47.58\00:10:50.05 And in fact, he said, he has 70 names in his smart phone 00:10:50.08\00:10:54.85 and he's praying for them every day 00:10:54.88\00:10:57.02 and he is looking for an opportunity 00:10:57.05\00:10:58.99 to give Bible study to them 00:10:59.02\00:11:00.82 and he is baptizing them one by one. 00:11:00.86\00:11:03.66 I was inspired. 00:11:03.69\00:11:05.49 Immediately, I repented my sin 00:11:05.53\00:11:08.13 and then I began to develop a list 00:11:08.16\00:11:11.37 on my smart phone too. 00:11:11.40\00:11:12.87 So I have quite a few names on smart phone. 00:11:12.90\00:11:15.34 I'm praying for them 00:11:15.37\00:11:16.91 and then I want to be an example 00:11:16.94\00:11:20.11 to all our church members 00:11:20.14\00:11:21.98 that we need to be involved in the mission of the church. 00:11:22.01\00:11:26.01 My dear brothers and sisters, 00:11:26.05\00:11:28.15 we believe that Jesus is coming soon 00:11:28.18\00:11:30.79 and we have to finish the gospel as soon as possible. 00:11:30.82\00:11:34.39 But pastors and paid workers cannot finish the work alone, 00:11:34.42\00:11:39.93 for we all lay people and then pastors, 00:11:39.96\00:11:42.86 we have to really work together to finish the gospel work. 00:11:42.90\00:11:46.47 And I'm so glad that in our church 00:11:46.50\00:11:48.74 we have many dedicated lay people, 00:11:48.77\00:11:52.07 I really appreciate that. 00:11:52.11\00:11:54.01 And then let us continue working together 00:11:54.04\00:11:56.64 with the same spirit 00:11:56.68\00:11:58.75 to finish the work in our generation. 00:11:58.78\00:12:01.82 Maranatha, Jesus is coming very soon. 00:12:01.85\00:12:05.09 I'm learning to be 00:12:34.15\00:12:38.85 Like Jesus 00:12:38.89\00:12:43.22 I'm following 00:12:43.26\00:12:45.99 In his ways 00:12:46.03\00:12:51.43 I'm learning to love 00:12:51.47\00:12:56.07 Like he did 00:12:56.10\00:13:00.54 In all that I do and say 00:13:00.58\00:13:08.28 At times I am tempted 00:13:08.32\00:13:12.85 To make a wrong choice 00:13:12.89\00:13:16.86 But I want to listen 00:13:16.89\00:13:20.63 As the still small voice whispers 00:13:20.66\00:13:25.63 Love one another 00:13:25.67\00:13:29.70 As Jesus loves you 00:13:29.74\00:13:33.88 Learn to show kindness 00:13:33.91\00:13:37.41 In all that you do 00:13:37.45\00:13:40.95 Be gentle and loving 00:13:40.98\00:13:45.65 In deed and in thought 00:13:45.69\00:13:50.09 For these are the things 00:13:50.13\00:13:54.06 Jesus taught 00:13:54.10\00:13:59.03 I'm learning 00:13:59.07\00:14:01.67 To love my neighbor 00:14:01.70\00:14:07.28 I'm learning 00:14:07.31\00:14:09.11 To serve my friends 00:14:09.14\00:14:14.32 I watch 00:14:14.35\00:14:16.22 For that day of gladness 00:14:16.25\00:14:22.39 When Jesus will come again 00:14:22.42\00:14:29.50 I want to remember 00:14:29.53\00:14:33.94 The lessons he taught 00:14:33.97\00:14:37.97 Then the Holy Spirit 00:14:38.01\00:14:41.51 Enters into my thoughts 00:14:41.54\00:14:44.88 Saying Love one another 00:14:44.91\00:14:50.79 As Jesus loves you 00:14:50.82\00:14:55.49 Learn to show kindness 00:14:55.52\00:14:59.29 In all that you do 00:14:59.33\00:15:03.26 Be gentle and loving 00:15:03.30\00:15:08.20 In deed and in thought 00:15:08.24\00:15:13.21 For these are the things 00:15:13.24\00:15:18.01 Jesus taught 00:15:18.05\00:15:23.18 Love one another 00:15:23.22\00:15:27.26 As Jesus loves you 00:15:27.29\00:15:31.56 Learn to show kindness 00:15:31.59\00:15:34.96 In all that you do 00:15:35.00\00:15:38.57 Be gentle and loving 00:15:38.60\00:15:43.24 In deed and in thought 00:15:43.27\00:15:47.91 For these are the things 00:15:47.94\00:15:54.58 Jesus taught 00:15:54.62\00:16:00.72 We're so happy you're here with us today, 00:16:06.36\00:16:08.80 you know, it's great to meet new friends 00:16:08.83\00:16:10.97 and have them be a part of our ASI family. 00:16:11.00\00:16:14.14 And I just had the privilege last evening 00:16:14.17\00:16:16.40 of meeting Randy Meyer. 00:16:16.44\00:16:18.61 Randy, can you tell us about your ministry 00:16:18.64\00:16:21.01 because we're here to hear mission stories. 00:16:21.04\00:16:23.91 International Caring Hands 00:16:23.95\00:16:25.58 is an organization dedicated to using dental work 00:16:25.61\00:16:30.99 as medical missionary work 00:16:31.02\00:16:33.62 and we cannot do that alone. 00:16:33.66\00:16:36.26 We're a very small ASI organization 00:16:36.29\00:16:38.99 and as I mentioned before this morning, 00:16:39.03\00:16:40.96 we are a family, 00:16:41.00\00:16:42.63 and the ASI family is the only way 00:16:42.66\00:16:45.23 that we can do what we do. 00:16:45.27\00:16:47.04 We work in coordination with other organizations 00:16:47.07\00:16:50.17 including Riverside Farms Institute in Zambia. 00:16:50.21\00:16:53.58 They have been very instrumental in helping us 00:16:53.61\00:16:55.64 get a mobile dental clinic up and going there. 00:16:55.68\00:16:58.48 We work in coordination with ADRA Madagascar. 00:16:58.51\00:17:01.88 Without ADRA, we would not be able to serve the people 00:17:01.92\00:17:05.69 there in Madagascar as efficiently as we do. 00:17:05.72\00:17:08.89 And we're also blessed to work with other organizations 00:17:08.92\00:17:11.79 such as Maranatha, Volunteers International, 00:17:11.83\00:17:15.20 and we're also able to work 00:17:15.23\00:17:16.93 with Pathways to Health in Spokane, 00:17:16.97\00:17:19.27 and also we work regularly with AMEN, 00:17:19.30\00:17:22.60 and had the first AMEN Clinic in the Pacific Northwest 00:17:22.64\00:17:25.81 roughly about two and a half years ago. 00:17:25.84\00:17:29.24 So we are very blessed 00:17:29.28\00:17:30.61 to work with these different organizations 00:17:30.65\00:17:32.81 and have this opportunity to be part of the ASI family. 00:17:32.85\00:17:38.35 Isn't that exciting? 00:17:38.39\00:17:39.79 All these ministries that are cooperating 00:17:39.82\00:17:42.16 and working together, 00:17:42.19\00:17:43.53 that's what we're doing here. 00:17:43.56\00:17:44.89 I think you've got some exciting stories 00:17:44.93\00:17:47.20 to share with us today, Randy, 00:17:47.23\00:17:48.96 and you've also got some pictures 00:17:49.00\00:17:50.50 that are going to be shown during this time. 00:17:50.53\00:17:52.20 So please share. 00:17:52.23\00:17:53.87 The first story that we'll have is from Chuuk, Micronesia. 00:17:53.90\00:17:58.44 In Chuuk, Micronesia, 00:17:58.47\00:17:59.81 it's a population of 50,000 people 00:17:59.84\00:18:02.18 living on about 16 islands. 00:18:02.21\00:18:04.71 And in those islands there is no private dentist 00:18:04.75\00:18:09.02 to provide any care to the people there. 00:18:09.05\00:18:12.52 And there was this young girl, 00:18:12.55\00:18:13.89 she was 12 years old at the time 00:18:13.92\00:18:16.09 and there's a lot of domestic violence in Chuuk 00:18:16.12\00:18:19.16 and her brother had kicked out her four upper front teeth. 00:18:19.19\00:18:24.07 Can you imagine what that would be like? 00:18:24.10\00:18:26.23 Have your four front teeth knocked out, 00:18:26.27\00:18:28.77 no way to get any services to do anything. 00:18:28.80\00:18:33.27 Her mother threw her teeth in the garbage can. 00:18:33.31\00:18:36.58 But her uncle came by and her uncle said, 00:18:36.61\00:18:39.65 "Hey, the Adventist dentist is here at the dental clinic." 00:18:39.68\00:18:43.28 Let's see if he can do something. 00:18:43.32\00:18:44.95 So they grabbed what they thought 00:18:44.99\00:18:46.96 was all of the teeth out of the garbage 00:18:46.99\00:18:48.39 and headed down to our dental clinic. 00:18:48.42\00:18:50.96 Dr. Cedric Hayden gathered the teeth up 00:18:50.99\00:18:54.63 and he actually started doing root canals in his hand 00:18:54.66\00:18:57.73 on three of those teeth. 00:18:57.77\00:18:59.10 Unfortunately, they didn't show up with the fourth one. 00:18:59.13\00:19:02.00 So he told them go back 00:19:02.04\00:19:03.67 and get the fourth tooth out of the garbage 00:19:03.71\00:19:06.21 and so they got that tooth. 00:19:06.24\00:19:09.01 Dr. Hayden worked on them for hours 00:19:09.04\00:19:12.08 and was actually able to get those teeth 00:19:12.11\00:19:14.72 put back into the sockets 00:19:14.75\00:19:16.89 and used fishing line to melt on there 00:19:16.92\00:19:20.56 to hold them together. 00:19:20.59\00:19:22.12 And then the first picture 00:19:22.16\00:19:24.23 that I have will show a picture of her teeth 00:19:24.26\00:19:26.36 after they've been put back in 00:19:26.39\00:19:28.66 and now she is able to smile 00:19:28.70\00:19:32.80 and come and visit us on a regular basis 00:19:32.83\00:19:35.07 and all of her teeth are healthy at the current time 00:19:35.10\00:19:38.44 which was an amazing thing. 00:19:38.47\00:19:40.21 Dr. Hayden was not sure 00:19:40.24\00:19:41.58 that these teeth would be able to be restored 00:19:41.61\00:19:43.91 but they were. 00:19:43.95\00:19:46.82 We also work in Madagascar with Peter Delhove 00:19:46.85\00:19:49.95 and we've been very blessed with our work there. 00:19:49.98\00:19:54.16 We work about two hours south of Antananarivo. 00:19:54.19\00:19:57.93 We've had people come in with abscesses 00:19:57.96\00:20:00.13 roughly about the size of softballs to grapefruit. 00:20:00.16\00:20:03.33 Huge abscesses the first time we come here. 00:20:03.37\00:20:06.00 In this picture you'll see, this is our waiting area 00:20:06.03\00:20:08.44 when we show up in the morning, 00:20:08.47\00:20:10.51 and so you can see that there's an awful lot of people there. 00:20:10.54\00:20:13.91 And the first day there weren't so many people in the line 00:20:13.94\00:20:16.81 and we wondered why? 00:20:16.85\00:20:18.18 They thought we weren't using anesthetic. 00:20:18.21\00:20:20.38 And so the next day they showed up 00:20:20.42\00:20:22.28 because they heard we were using anesthetic. 00:20:22.32\00:20:25.29 And then our next place is in Zambia. 00:20:25.32\00:20:28.79 In Zambia we work with Riverside Farms Institute 00:20:28.82\00:20:32.13 and have a mobile dental clinic, 00:20:32.16\00:20:33.50 that's 4-wheel drive that goes out 00:20:33.53\00:20:35.03 into the rural and remote villages 00:20:35.06\00:20:38.10 in the Southern Zambezi River. 00:20:38.13\00:20:41.10 And you'll see here a picture of Dr. JoyJoy Falia. 00:20:41.14\00:20:44.34 I love that name, you gotta love it. 00:20:44.37\00:20:45.97 JoyJoy, wouldn't you love to have a name like that? 00:20:46.01\00:20:49.08 She's a little lady 00:20:49.11\00:20:51.01 packed with a lot of dynamite for Jesus, 00:20:51.05\00:20:53.95 and she works hard, 00:20:53.98\00:20:55.32 and you can see her here 00:20:55.35\00:20:56.69 with a couple of assistants in our clinic in Zambia 00:20:56.72\00:20:59.25 working with the children there. 00:20:59.29\00:21:02.39 And then our next location 00:21:02.42\00:21:04.93 that we've gone has been to Madagascar 00:21:04.96\00:21:11.37 and, I mean, I'm sorry, not Madagascar, 00:21:11.40\00:21:14.27 but to Mongolia, 00:21:14.30\00:21:16.34 and in Mongolia we actually work with It Is Written 00:21:16.37\00:21:20.04 with John Bradshaw there, 00:21:20.08\00:21:21.94 and we got a dental chair 00:21:21.98\00:21:24.85 and some dental unit to work on the teeth there. 00:21:24.88\00:21:29.28 And we're actually able to see about 300 people 00:21:29.32\00:21:32.82 there with It Is Written, 00:21:32.85\00:21:34.19 and It Is Written had over 100 volunteers 00:21:34.22\00:21:36.62 that did eye surgeries 00:21:36.66\00:21:37.99 and all sorts of services there. 00:21:38.03\00:21:39.79 And many of my Mongolian brothers 00:21:39.83\00:21:42.66 who went with me on that trip are sitting here 00:21:42.70\00:21:44.90 and it's good to see them. 00:21:44.93\00:21:47.00 And we've been very blessed by this 00:21:47.04\00:21:48.94 and in fact there were a total of 70 people 00:21:48.97\00:21:53.41 baptized in Mongolia. 00:21:53.44\00:21:55.41 This is a picture of the It Is Written team 00:21:55.44\00:21:57.95 and the baptisms that we had there. 00:21:57.98\00:22:00.85 In addition to there, we work in the Pacific Northwest, 00:22:00.88\00:22:04.85 and we've been very blessed to work with AMEN, 00:22:04.89\00:22:07.62 and we plan to continue working with them again this year. 00:22:07.66\00:22:11.23 We'll have a clinic there in Eugene, Oregon 00:22:11.26\00:22:14.83 where we're from and also in Portland. 00:22:14.86\00:22:17.13 So if you're interested in signing up 00:22:17.17\00:22:18.80 for one of those clinics, 00:22:18.83\00:22:20.17 it will be in Portland on August 18th and the 20th. 00:22:20.20\00:22:24.97 And in Eugene on the 24th and 25th of September 00:22:25.01\00:22:29.64 and you can go to amensda.org to sign up for one of those. 00:22:29.68\00:22:34.95 In closing, I think you had a couple of quotes 00:22:34.98\00:22:37.19 that you wanted to leave us with today. 00:22:37.22\00:22:40.79 When we look at what Ellen White shares with us 00:22:40.82\00:22:43.12 in relation to medical evangelism, 00:22:43.16\00:22:44.89 I just wanted to read a couple of quotes here. 00:22:44.93\00:22:47.63 "How shall we reveal Christ? 00:22:47.66\00:22:49.50 I know no better way 00:22:49.53\00:22:51.40 than take hold of the medical missionary work 00:22:51.43\00:22:54.97 in connection with ministry." 00:22:55.00\00:22:56.34 Medical Ministry, page 319, 00:22:56.37\00:22:59.31 "And then Christ gave a perfect representation 00:22:59.34\00:23:01.78 of true godliness 00:23:01.81\00:23:03.48 by combining the work of a physician and a minister, 00:23:03.51\00:23:06.95 ministering to the needs of both body and soul, 00:23:06.98\00:23:10.15 healing physical disease, 00:23:10.19\00:23:11.99 in speaking words brought to the troubled heart." 00:23:12.02\00:23:15.12 Counsels to Health, page 528. 00:23:15.16\00:23:18.39 Thank you, Randy, and to God be the glory. 00:23:18.43\00:23:21.13 Amen. 00:23:21.16\00:23:22.50 Good morning, ASI and happy Sabbath. 00:23:26.90\00:23:30.47 So happy to see each one of you here today 00:23:30.51\00:23:32.77 and isn't it nice to be able to have one day a week 00:23:32.81\00:23:35.34 where we can rest 00:23:35.38\00:23:36.71 even if we're busy enjoying lots of things, 00:23:36.75\00:23:38.61 we can rest in God's presence. 00:23:38.65\00:23:40.98 Well, I'm delighted to have three people here 00:23:41.02\00:23:43.15 that I know well. 00:23:43.18\00:23:44.52 In fact, I enjoy working with them 00:23:44.55\00:23:46.55 and leading up to ASI, 00:23:46.59\00:23:49.02 we did something very interesting, 00:23:49.06\00:23:51.49 and I'd like to ask Floyd to tell us 00:23:51.53\00:23:54.10 a little bit about the health expo 00:23:54.13\00:23:55.73 that we had the first day, Wednesday 00:23:55.76\00:23:58.23 and why we decided to do that? 00:23:58.27\00:24:01.47 Yes, I'm glad to tell you then, one reason of course was 00:24:01.50\00:24:04.34 because ASI National wanted us to do it. 00:24:04.37\00:24:08.44 And, but we were thankful they were 00:24:08.48\00:24:10.08 because we felt like... 00:24:10.11\00:24:11.81 As we all know the medical work is the right arm of the gospel 00:24:11.85\00:24:16.25 and so we wanted to practice it, 00:24:16.28\00:24:17.79 put into practice here 00:24:17.82\00:24:19.29 and also if possible give kind of a model 00:24:19.32\00:24:21.69 so those other members of ASI who are coming can see 00:24:21.72\00:24:25.19 what it is like to do a health expo. 00:24:25.23\00:24:28.56 And also we feel like we really owe the communities 00:24:28.60\00:24:34.40 where we meet for ASI. 00:24:34.44\00:24:36.50 We'd like to give back to them 00:24:36.54\00:24:37.97 as well as receive the blessings 00:24:38.01\00:24:39.54 of being in their facilities and things like that. 00:24:39.57\00:24:43.31 So those are really probably the main reasons 00:24:43.35\00:24:46.01 why we felt like we wanted to do it 00:24:46.05\00:24:48.02 and we're happy that we could do that. 00:24:48.05\00:24:49.82 Floyd Courtney was the president 00:24:49.85\00:24:51.85 of ASI Southwestern Union for quite some time, 00:24:51.89\00:24:55.86 and Dawn has taken his place for the last couple of years, 00:24:55.89\00:24:59.03 and so I'm delighted to have both of them here with us. 00:24:59.06\00:25:02.06 Pat Humphrey as well has been very involved 00:25:02.10\00:25:04.23 with ASI for a number of years. 00:25:04.27\00:25:06.20 And I'd like to ask you 00:25:06.23\00:25:07.84 what was it like to get the word out? 00:25:07.87\00:25:09.64 How did that go, getting the word out to everybody 00:25:09.67\00:25:11.47 about what was happening? 00:25:11.51\00:25:12.84 Well, as always it's a challenge 00:25:12.87\00:25:14.21 to get the word out 00:25:14.24\00:25:15.58 especially in a large city like Houston 00:25:15.61\00:25:17.65 but we had a lot of help actually. 00:25:17.68\00:25:19.98 And one of the first things that happened is 00:25:20.02\00:25:22.25 that the ASI leaders 00:25:22.28\00:25:23.65 along with Dawn our Chapter president 00:25:23.69\00:25:26.02 met with the pastors, the local pastors 00:25:26.05\00:25:28.72 and they were excited about working along with this 00:25:28.76\00:25:33.29 and they helped us quite a bit 00:25:33.33\00:25:34.83 to get the word out to the community 00:25:34.86\00:25:36.83 as well as their church members. 00:25:36.87\00:25:38.60 We also did an ad 00:25:38.63\00:25:40.77 that the Sunday prior to the event. 00:25:40.80\00:25:43.27 We had an ad in the newspaper, 00:25:43.30\00:25:44.91 we were able to get something out 00:25:44.94\00:25:46.47 through the city news website, 00:25:46.51\00:25:50.55 and we also did community calendars, 00:25:50.58\00:25:54.48 we worked with community agencies 00:25:54.52\00:25:56.48 to get the word out to the people that they serve. 00:25:56.52\00:25:59.82 And so through a number of ways 00:25:59.85\00:26:01.86 we were able to get the word out. 00:26:01.89\00:26:03.83 Very good. 00:26:03.86\00:26:05.19 Well, Dawn, I'd like to ask you 00:26:05.23\00:26:06.56 what kind of services were you able to offer here? 00:26:06.59\00:26:09.43 We were offering services according to the Newstart model 00:26:09.46\00:26:13.84 so we did in the typical expo style. 00:26:13.87\00:26:16.30 We did a nutrition station, exercise, water, sunshine, 00:26:16.34\00:26:19.84 temperance, air, rest and trust in divine power. 00:26:19.87\00:26:23.95 But then in addition we also offered some expanded services, 00:26:23.98\00:26:28.22 so we had oral health screening, 00:26:28.25\00:26:29.85 vision health screening, barber and beauty 00:26:29.88\00:26:32.55 and we also had a pelvic floor biofeedback station 00:26:32.59\00:26:36.02 which was very, very interesting. 00:26:36.06\00:26:37.59 Okay, so a lot of good services 00:26:37.63\00:26:39.59 that we could offer to the community. 00:26:39.63\00:26:40.96 That's wonderful. 00:26:41.00\00:26:42.46 Pat, where did you work in particular, in what station? 00:26:42.50\00:26:45.27 I worked at the health age assessment station. 00:26:45.30\00:26:48.00 And so this is where there's a computerized assessment 00:26:48.04\00:26:51.27 and you interview the person 00:26:51.31\00:26:53.21 and they give you their data, 00:26:53.24\00:26:55.14 their age, their weight, and height 00:26:55.18\00:26:59.45 and you take all that information, 00:26:59.48\00:27:01.22 put it into the computer, 00:27:01.25\00:27:02.58 and what it does is it generates 00:27:02.62\00:27:04.39 what we call the health age. 00:27:04.42\00:27:06.65 So they can find out how old they really are. 00:27:06.69\00:27:11.19 How many years of life 00:27:11.23\00:27:14.03 either they can have additional years 00:27:14.06\00:27:18.60 and in some cases people's age 00:27:18.63\00:27:21.37 is actually higher than their chronological age, 00:27:21.40\00:27:24.67 so it gives a lot of good information, 00:27:24.71\00:27:26.37 Wonderful. 00:27:26.41\00:27:27.74 And how about you, Floyd, 00:27:27.78\00:27:29.11 what were you involved with for the health expo? 00:27:29.14\00:27:31.61 I didn't work a lot in one specific station. 00:27:31.65\00:27:34.35 I was kind of a floater 00:27:34.38\00:27:35.78 seeing that everything was going okay 00:27:35.82\00:27:37.49 because, you know, in an operation like that, 00:27:37.52\00:27:40.26 lot of times a certain need can come up or something like that. 00:27:40.29\00:27:42.92 So I was kind of floating 00:27:42.96\00:27:44.39 and checking to see if everything's going okay. 00:27:44.43\00:27:46.53 When I wasn't helping somebody, 00:27:46.56\00:27:48.00 I also, I worked pretty much as a greeters 00:27:48.03\00:27:51.37 because it's a large area, people coming in 00:27:51.40\00:27:53.37 and we want to make sure they got to us 00:27:53.40\00:27:56.27 and to where they needed to be 00:27:56.30\00:27:57.64 so I helped also in that area of being greeter. 00:27:57.67\00:27:59.71 Okay. Very good. 00:27:59.74\00:28:01.71 So we want to get down to finding out 00:28:01.74\00:28:04.71 what the impact was. 00:28:04.75\00:28:06.08 And I'd like to ask it in two ways actually, Dawn. 00:28:06.11\00:28:08.58 I'd like to find out 00:28:08.62\00:28:09.95 first of all, what the response was from the community? 00:28:09.98\00:28:13.19 And also what the response was 00:28:13.22\00:28:15.89 or how the volunteers were benefited and blessed 00:28:15.92\00:28:18.53 by this experience? 00:28:18.56\00:28:20.30 It was really a wonderful experience. 00:28:20.33\00:28:22.03 The community, they were just really happy. 00:28:22.06\00:28:25.10 Many of the people came and said, 00:28:25.13\00:28:26.47 they'd never seen anything like this 00:28:26.50\00:28:28.30 and they were just very excited 00:28:28.34\00:28:29.67 to be able to receive the services. 00:28:29.70\00:28:31.24 Some of them came and they stayed and stayed and, 00:28:31.27\00:28:34.31 so we got a lot of opportunities 00:28:34.34\00:28:36.14 to interact with them. 00:28:36.18\00:28:37.58 And in terms of the volunteers, they too were very excited. 00:28:37.61\00:28:40.88 Some people had never worked in expo before 00:28:40.92\00:28:43.85 and they were just so happy to be able to reach out 00:28:43.89\00:28:47.09 and touch the members of the community. 00:28:47.12\00:28:48.72 So it gave everyone 00:28:48.76\00:28:50.19 who was involved an opportunity 00:28:50.23\00:28:51.73 to really participate in this work 00:28:51.76\00:28:53.90 of being the hands and feet of Jesus. 00:28:53.93\00:28:56.23 And we started out, you know, with a very conservative goal, 00:28:56.26\00:28:59.57 we would like to get 200 but we'd be happy with 120. 00:28:59.60\00:29:04.07 We ended up with about 170 volunteers, 00:29:04.11\00:29:07.18 and that's just what was on paper, 00:29:07.21\00:29:08.84 and people just kept coming in the door, 00:29:08.88\00:29:10.21 "I want to help. I want to help." 00:29:10.25\00:29:11.61 We had people traveling from Killeen 00:29:11.65\00:29:13.72 that had been involved in previous health events 00:29:13.75\00:29:16.65 in our jumpstart clinic, 00:29:16.69\00:29:18.02 people who had been involved in Pathway, 00:29:18.05\00:29:20.96 they came and helped, 00:29:20.99\00:29:22.32 so it was really a blessing. 00:29:22.36\00:29:24.66 So we'd like to hear some stories 00:29:24.69\00:29:26.23 of some experiences that you had. 00:29:26.26\00:29:27.76 Pat, would you have one you like to share with us? 00:29:27.80\00:29:29.50 Yes, I had a young man that was 22 years old 00:29:29.53\00:29:32.27 who came and did the health age assessment. 00:29:32.30\00:29:34.94 After he completed the questionnaire 00:29:34.97\00:29:36.87 turned out that he was 32. 00:29:36.91\00:29:39.71 His health age was actually 32, 00:29:39.74\00:29:41.71 and I went through some of the recommendations 00:29:41.74\00:29:44.58 that are given with this questionnaire, 00:29:44.61\00:29:46.65 and he was just so grateful to find out 00:29:46.68\00:29:49.88 that he could actually do some lifestyle, 00:29:49.92\00:29:52.49 make some lifestyle changes 00:29:52.52\00:29:53.96 and lower his health age even to as low as 16 00:29:53.99\00:29:57.53 if he would put those things into practice. 00:29:57.56\00:29:59.36 Okay. Wonderful, and how about you, Dawn? 00:29:59.39\00:30:01.70 Do you have some stories you'd like to share with us? 00:30:01.73\00:30:03.70 Yes, I had been in and out of the FedEx office 00:30:03.73\00:30:06.40 at the convention center all day 00:30:06.43\00:30:08.00 pretty much making copies. 00:30:08.04\00:30:09.70 And the young lady who was assisting me to marriage, 00:30:09.74\00:30:12.27 she said, "What are you doing?" 00:30:12.31\00:30:13.78 And when I told her what services we were offering, 00:30:13.81\00:30:16.34 she says, "This is an answer to prayer. 00:30:16.38\00:30:17.91 I really need to have 00:30:17.95\00:30:19.51 some of these things looked at." 00:30:19.55\00:30:21.08 And when she took her break, 00:30:21.12\00:30:22.45 I saw her going through the expo. 00:30:22.48\00:30:23.99 Okay, wonderful. 00:30:24.02\00:30:25.35 Well, thank you so much for all of the hard work 00:30:25.39\00:30:27.79 that you've all put 00:30:27.82\00:30:29.16 into organizing this health expo. 00:30:29.19\00:30:30.99 It's been a wonderful experience 00:30:31.03\00:30:32.36 to be able to have local church members 00:30:32.39\00:30:34.70 be more in contact with ASI 00:30:34.73\00:30:36.60 as well as ASI be involved in reaching out 00:30:36.63\00:30:39.40 and giving back as you've mentioned. 00:30:39.43\00:30:41.20 Thank you so much. Amen. Thank you. 00:30:41.24\00:30:42.57 God bless. Thank you. 00:30:42.60\00:30:44.44 So one of the organizations 00:30:44.47\00:30:46.78 that we've probably mentioned more than any other 00:30:46.81\00:30:49.64 and maybe even without knowing it is one called AMEN. 00:30:49.68\00:30:53.18 Don't you agree? 00:30:53.21\00:30:54.55 We've probably said amen more 00:30:54.58\00:30:55.92 than we've mentioned any other organization. 00:30:55.95\00:30:58.25 And I'm delighted to have with me Dr. Brian Schwartz 00:30:58.29\00:31:01.39 as well as Vinh Trinh with us here from AMEN, 00:31:01.42\00:31:04.19 both of them are from AMEN. 00:31:04.23\00:31:05.83 And we're excited because this is similar 00:31:05.86\00:31:08.73 to what we've just heard about 00:31:08.76\00:31:10.10 in reaching out through the right arm of the gospel, 00:31:10.13\00:31:12.23 the health message in order to touch lives. 00:31:12.27\00:31:14.90 And so I'd like for you to tell us, 00:31:14.94\00:31:17.11 Dr. Schwartz, what is AMEN? 00:31:17.14\00:31:19.57 AMEN is the Adventist Medical Evangelism Network. 00:31:19.61\00:31:23.18 It was started around 2004 00:31:23.21\00:31:26.18 by a group of physicians and dentists 00:31:26.21\00:31:28.38 who were actually here involved at ASI 00:31:28.42\00:31:31.22 and got together in a small breakout session at ASI 00:31:31.25\00:31:33.96 and decided that we needed a regular organization 00:31:33.99\00:31:36.19 that could really develop the right arm 00:31:36.22\00:31:38.29 initially to help physicians like myself 00:31:38.33\00:31:40.80 and dentists to make their medical practice 00:31:40.83\00:31:43.03 into a ministry, 00:31:43.06\00:31:44.53 but then it quickly expanded into a national work 00:31:44.57\00:31:48.90 doing AMEN free clinics and even internationally. 00:31:48.94\00:31:51.31 Okay. 00:31:51.34\00:31:52.67 Well, we'd like to know a little bit more 00:31:52.71\00:31:54.04 about the AMEN free clinics. 00:31:54.08\00:31:55.41 Could you tell us a little bit about 00:31:55.44\00:31:56.78 how that has developed and what you actually do? 00:31:56.81\00:32:00.25 So in 2013, we begin the idea 00:32:00.28\00:32:03.25 of actually going into a region. 00:32:03.28\00:32:05.89 This is similar to what Pathways does 00:32:05.92\00:32:08.02 but at a smaller scale to help local churches and communities 00:32:08.06\00:32:11.63 or several churches get together 00:32:11.66\00:32:13.03 and put on a weekend event, 00:32:13.06\00:32:15.20 one day, two day, three days. 00:32:15.23\00:32:16.83 Thursday, Friday, and Sunday 00:32:16.87\00:32:19.27 just to get together to provide medical care 00:32:19.30\00:32:22.67 with health screening and simple medical treatments, 00:32:22.70\00:32:25.61 full dental care including crowns 00:32:25.64\00:32:27.68 and tooth extractions and also vision care. 00:32:27.71\00:32:32.71 Okay. 00:32:32.75\00:32:34.08 And it's been just growing rapidly. 00:32:34.12\00:32:35.48 Okay. 00:32:35.52\00:32:36.85 Well, I'm delighted to have Vinh Trinh here as well. 00:32:36.89\00:32:39.42 He's actually the clinic director 00:32:39.45\00:32:41.19 and you can imagine 00:32:41.22\00:32:42.56 that when you're organizing clinics 00:32:42.59\00:32:43.93 all over the place, he stays pretty busy. 00:32:43.96\00:32:45.86 Why don't you tell us a little bit more about the clinics 00:32:45.89\00:32:48.76 and especially Clinic-in-a-Box, a very unique tool? 00:32:48.80\00:32:52.70 So we decided that we needed to move backwards 00:32:52.73\00:32:56.40 to serve smaller churches, 00:32:56.44\00:32:58.31 so Clinic-in-a-Boxes are scaled down version 00:32:58.34\00:33:00.84 of our larger clinic. 00:33:00.88\00:33:02.88 What we're doing is putting a spotlight into the church, 00:33:02.91\00:33:06.25 within the community. 00:33:06.28\00:33:07.62 And I believe we have a video to showcase 00:33:07.65\00:33:09.22 just to give a glimpse about 00:33:09.25\00:33:10.59 what Clinic-in-a-Box is all about. 00:33:10.62\00:33:11.95 Okay. Wonderful we'll let that roll. 00:33:11.99\00:33:13.49 Since 2013, AMEN has flung open the doors 00:33:27.10\00:33:31.41 to what it means 00:33:31.44\00:33:32.77 to be a mission minded medical professional. 00:33:32.81\00:33:35.34 Thousands of patients have walked into a gym, church, 00:33:35.38\00:33:39.05 convention center, and even a refugee camp. 00:33:39.08\00:33:43.79 They were greeted and treated by thousands of volunteers 00:33:43.82\00:33:47.46 who shared the same earnest desire to be Jesus' hands 00:33:47.49\00:33:51.03 in helping and healing the sick. 00:33:51.06\00:33:54.00 Now four incredible years later, 00:33:54.03\00:33:56.67 it's time to circle back to why all of this matters. 00:33:56.70\00:34:00.50 The patients' journey to Christ. 00:34:00.54\00:34:04.14 Clinic-in-a-Box is a scaled down version 00:34:04.17\00:34:06.98 of the AMEN Clinic, 00:34:07.01\00:34:08.71 held over just one day with a few providers 00:34:08.74\00:34:12.08 and all the same free services 00:34:12.11\00:34:13.88 that AMEN Clinic has always featured. 00:34:13.92\00:34:17.45 Why the change? 00:34:17.49\00:34:19.09 Because rather than being 00:34:19.12\00:34:20.46 a revolving door of medical procedures, 00:34:20.49\00:34:23.16 the clinic must be a door that opens to the church. 00:34:23.19\00:34:28.20 The mission of Clinic-in-a-Box is to put a spotlight 00:34:28.23\00:34:31.43 on even the smallest Adventist church 00:34:31.47\00:34:34.24 and to empower its members 00:34:34.27\00:34:35.74 to become a light in their community. 00:34:35.77\00:34:39.31 That's really what a church should be, isn't it? 00:34:39.34\00:34:42.31 A safe place of hope, healing, and love, 00:34:42.34\00:34:46.92 and that is what your church can be. 00:34:46.95\00:34:49.78 Maybe all you need is to plant the seed. 00:34:49.82\00:34:52.39 For more information about 00:34:57.33\00:34:58.66 how you can host a Clinic-in-a-Box, 00:34:58.69\00:35:00.80 please email AMEN 00:35:00.83\00:35:02.60 at admin@amensda.org 00:35:02.63\00:35:06.60 or call 530-883-8061. 00:35:06.63\00:35:11.47 Well, that sounds very exciting 00:35:14.44\00:35:15.81 and we'll let you tell us a little bit more about 00:35:15.84\00:35:17.65 how people can get involved with that. 00:35:17.68\00:35:19.55 But before we go to that, we'd like some stories as well. 00:35:19.58\00:35:22.82 We'd like you to tell us, Dr. Schwartz, 00:35:22.85\00:35:24.35 how you've been able to reach out to patients 00:35:24.39\00:35:27.06 and maybe especially because of AMEN, 00:35:27.09\00:35:29.62 and how you've been involved? 00:35:29.66\00:35:30.99 And how you've been able to collect ideas 00:35:31.03\00:35:32.36 through that organization? 00:35:32.39\00:35:34.36 So with AMEN we have an annual conference. 00:35:34.40\00:35:37.40 We get physicians, dentists, optometrists, 00:35:37.43\00:35:39.77 all health care providers together 00:35:39.80\00:35:41.20 just to share ideas 00:35:41.24\00:35:42.57 and we just keep building on ways that that work. 00:35:42.60\00:35:45.47 But just a little story 00:35:45.51\00:35:47.38 about my experience with an AMEN free clinic. 00:35:47.41\00:35:50.55 Okay. 00:35:50.58\00:35:52.51 Just having the opportunity to take care of a gentleman 00:35:52.55\00:35:54.82 who has not been able to get health care. 00:35:54.85\00:35:57.05 He comes in, he knows nothing really about who we are, 00:35:57.09\00:35:59.39 what we're doing, but it's just... 00:35:59.42\00:36:02.79 You can tell that he just appreciates the love 00:36:02.82\00:36:04.89 that he's felt through this process. 00:36:04.93\00:36:06.76 We take care of him, 00:36:06.80\00:36:08.13 give him a couple simple prescriptions, 00:36:08.16\00:36:09.50 and help get him in some resources 00:36:09.53\00:36:11.33 that he can follow up with 00:36:11.37\00:36:12.70 and hopefully get plugged into a church. 00:36:12.73\00:36:14.44 But as I always do with all my patients, 00:36:14.47\00:36:16.04 I say one of the things 00:36:16.07\00:36:17.41 they offer to do is have a prayer, 00:36:17.44\00:36:18.77 "Would you like to have a prayer with me?" 00:36:18.81\00:36:20.14 And as I pray with him, 00:36:20.18\00:36:21.51 he begins to cry and he just turns and says, 00:36:21.54\00:36:23.61 "I don't know what religion you are, 00:36:23.65\00:36:25.25 but I want to be a part of this church." 00:36:25.28\00:36:26.88 Wow. 00:36:26.92\00:36:28.25 There's no theology at this point. 00:36:28.28\00:36:29.85 He just senses something and it convicted me 00:36:29.88\00:36:32.12 that it's more than just preaching the gospel, 00:36:32.15\00:36:34.62 and sermons, and evangelistic series. 00:36:34.66\00:36:36.73 The health message, 00:36:36.76\00:36:38.09 the gospel lived out in action 00:36:38.13\00:36:39.96 opens the door to hearts and they respond. 00:36:40.00\00:36:42.10 Yes. Absolutely, thank you for sharing that. 00:36:42.13\00:36:45.53 I think that this is a wonderful tool 00:36:45.57\00:36:48.10 that you have here, this Clinic-in-a-Box, 00:36:48.14\00:36:49.90 it just sounds like it could really meet 00:36:49.94\00:36:51.67 the needs of a lot of small churches, 00:36:51.71\00:36:54.01 or maybe even larger churches, 00:36:54.04\00:36:55.71 any size church 00:36:55.74\00:36:57.08 that doesn't have their own equipment 00:36:57.11\00:36:58.45 which is probably most of them, right? 00:36:58.48\00:37:00.32 Tell us a little bit about how churches can get involved? 00:37:00.35\00:37:03.42 How they can benefit from this tool 00:37:03.45\00:37:04.85 that you're offering? 00:37:04.89\00:37:06.22 So just to make the distinction, 00:37:06.25\00:37:07.92 AMEN does do weekend free clinics 00:37:07.96\00:37:10.73 where we'll bring in our team, we will coordinate volunteers, 00:37:10.76\00:37:14.56 and we will work with the local churches 00:37:14.60\00:37:16.40 to put on an event. 00:37:16.43\00:37:17.77 We have just recently been able to expand 00:37:17.80\00:37:20.14 to two trucks, two teams 00:37:20.17\00:37:21.50 and will be able to support 00:37:21.54\00:37:22.87 up to 44 of those type of outreaches. 00:37:22.90\00:37:26.71 They're already booked out for all of next year. 00:37:26.74\00:37:28.34 Okay. 00:37:28.38\00:37:29.71 So the Clinic-in-a-Box is a simpler method 00:37:29.74\00:37:31.61 where if a church has a few health care provider 00:37:31.65\00:37:34.78 and they want to put together a small scale event, 00:37:34.82\00:37:37.19 we can ship that to them perhaps 00:37:37.22\00:37:38.79 with one of our team members to help get it going. 00:37:38.82\00:37:40.92 So even the smallest of churches 00:37:40.96\00:37:42.39 can put these on. 00:37:42.42\00:37:43.76 Okay, wonderful, 00:37:43.79\00:37:45.13 so it's a little different from the regular clinic 00:37:45.16\00:37:46.70 where there's a whole team that comes. 00:37:46.73\00:37:48.40 This is something that's kind of do it yourself 00:37:48.43\00:37:50.37 with some instructions, of course, 00:37:50.40\00:37:52.00 with the equipment that you need... 00:37:52.03\00:37:53.40 Everything they need. 00:37:53.44\00:37:54.77 Everything you need in order to offer 00:37:54.80\00:37:56.71 this free clinic in your local area. 00:37:56.74\00:37:59.27 That's right. Okay. Wonderful. 00:37:59.31\00:38:00.64 Well, thank you so much for sharing 00:38:00.68\00:38:02.28 and may God bless the work that AMEN is doing. 00:38:02.31\00:38:04.55 Thank you, Wayne. 00:38:04.58\00:38:08.52 I think the thing that inspires me 00:38:08.55\00:38:10.19 the most is the testimony of a life of self-sacrifice. 00:38:10.22\00:38:14.62 When I go throughout my day, 00:38:14.66\00:38:16.46 I try to think 00:38:16.49\00:38:18.29 of what other people have gone through before me 00:38:18.33\00:38:21.60 especially on the days 00:38:21.63\00:38:22.96 that I feel a little selfish 00:38:23.00\00:38:24.53 or I feel like I don't want to do ministry. 00:38:24.57\00:38:27.57 I think about the people that really didn't have a lot 00:38:27.60\00:38:31.37 or not even had a lot of support, 00:38:31.41\00:38:33.24 but they kept on going anyway 00:38:33.27\00:38:35.44 because they had a greater reward, 00:38:35.48\00:38:37.48 a greater goal in mind 00:38:37.51\00:38:39.05 than just how I feel right now 00:38:39.08\00:38:41.58 and having comfort and pleasure right now. 00:38:41.62\00:38:44.32 And the greatest example of that of course is Jesus. 00:38:44.35\00:38:48.66 And honestly that's where 00:38:48.69\00:38:50.03 I got my greatest source of inspiration. 00:38:50.06\00:38:52.49 I guess my question would be, 00:38:52.53\00:38:54.26 why would you not want to join ASI? 00:38:54.30\00:38:56.80 Everyone should be a part of ASI. 00:38:56.83\00:38:58.87 There are all types of people, young, old, 00:38:58.90\00:39:02.14 you know, poor college students, 00:39:02.17\00:39:04.61 rich businessmen and women, 00:39:04.64\00:39:06.61 and everyone is altogether for a common goal 00:39:06.64\00:39:09.94 really just worshipping together 00:39:09.98\00:39:12.55 and going for that one mission of seeing Jesus come soon. 00:39:12.58\00:39:17.49 All of the interactions and all the connections 00:39:17.52\00:39:19.69 that I've had with ASI have been so positive 00:39:19.72\00:39:21.82 because they serve to inspire people in ministry, 00:39:21.86\00:39:25.43 and give you resources, and training, 00:39:25.46\00:39:28.36 and it's such a huge inspiration 00:39:28.40\00:39:30.50 and encouragement for anyone, 00:39:30.53\00:39:32.70 and I would just encourage everyone to be a part of it. 00:39:32.73\00:39:35.70 Welcome to another offering in action segment. 00:39:40.51\00:39:44.38 With me is Moise Ratsara, he's the president for GYC, 00:39:44.41\00:39:48.32 Generation Youth Christ. 00:39:48.35\00:39:51.02 Lela Lewis, who's the CEO and president 00:39:51.05\00:39:53.15 of Your Best Pathway to Health 00:39:53.19\00:39:54.89 and Duane McKey, 00:39:54.92\00:39:56.26 president of Total Member Involvement 00:39:56.29\00:39:58.46 in Adventist World Radio. 00:39:58.49\00:39:59.83 So we've got all the big guys up here, girls. 00:39:59.86\00:40:02.73 Okay, so, Moise, first tell us, 00:40:02.76\00:40:04.93 this is a phenomenal collaboration 00:40:04.97\00:40:06.47 that's going to be taking place in Phoenix, 00:40:06.50\00:40:08.17 Arizona between GYC, Pathway, and others. 00:40:08.20\00:40:11.27 But tell us a little bit about that, 00:40:11.31\00:40:12.67 how did that come about 00:40:12.71\00:40:14.04 and a little bit more about GYC? 00:40:14.08\00:40:15.41 All right. Great, well, thank you so much, Debbie. 00:40:15.44\00:40:17.65 You know, GYC exist to engage, inspire, 00:40:17.68\00:40:21.25 and challenge young people in the mission and vision 00:40:21.28\00:40:24.35 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:40:24.39\00:40:26.65 We believe that young people can proclaim 00:40:26.69\00:40:28.96 the three angels' message 00:40:28.99\00:40:31.36 and we also believe 00:40:31.39\00:40:32.73 that young people can live a life of service. 00:40:32.76\00:40:35.53 Pathway in a practical way shows the love of Christ 00:40:35.56\00:40:40.17 through health care and we say, you know, 00:40:40.20\00:40:42.20 why don't we use both arms of the gospel, 00:40:42.24\00:40:44.27 the right and the left. 00:40:44.31\00:40:45.64 Let us do something big so that we can go home. 00:40:45.67\00:40:48.61 Because at the end of the day 00:40:48.64\00:40:50.55 we are Seventh-day Adventists 00:40:50.58\00:40:53.68 and we believe that Jesus is coming soon. 00:40:53.72\00:40:56.52 And if Jesus is gonna come, 00:40:56.55\00:40:58.19 then we need to be involved in TMI, 00:40:58.22\00:41:01.32 Total Member Involvement. 00:41:01.36\00:41:03.56 But even beyond that 00:41:03.59\00:41:04.93 we need to be involved in Total Ministry Involvement. 00:41:04.96\00:41:09.00 Amen. Amen. 00:41:09.03\00:41:10.37 So, Lela, this is more, this is bigger than 00:41:10.40\00:41:12.13 just GYC and Pathway to Health, 00:41:12.17\00:41:13.97 who else is involved in this collaboration? 00:41:14.00\00:41:15.67 You know, it's so exciting, Debbie. 00:41:15.70\00:41:17.31 It was actually exactly a year ago, 00:41:17.34\00:41:19.41 a whole bunch of us at ASI in Phoenix sat down together 00:41:19.44\00:41:22.81 GYC, Pathway, Total Member Involvement, 00:41:22.84\00:41:25.25 The North American Division, 3ABN, Hope TV, 00:41:25.28\00:41:28.12 and many, many other ministries. 00:41:28.15\00:41:29.72 And we said, "How can we do this?" 00:41:29.75\00:41:32.15 We want to combine just what Moise, 00:41:32.19\00:41:34.16 you just said we want to combine 00:41:34.19\00:41:35.56 and make this the best event for God next year. 00:41:35.59\00:41:38.49 So we came up with Christmas, 00:41:38.53\00:41:40.40 December 25, 26, and 27 for Pathway, Phoenix. 00:41:40.43\00:41:44.50 Now, Moise, this is interesting to me. 00:41:44.53\00:41:46.13 I know that with GYC 00:41:46.17\00:41:47.50 there's always an outreach during the convention. 00:41:47.54\00:41:50.17 This precedes the convention 00:41:50.21\00:41:52.24 and includes the day of Christmas. 00:41:52.27\00:41:54.88 How do you think that resonates with GYC attendees? 00:41:54.91\00:41:57.51 I think it's going to be excellent 00:41:57.55\00:41:58.88 because we're not going to lose a Christmas, 00:41:58.91\00:42:00.42 we're going to gain a Christmas 00:42:00.45\00:42:02.28 because we get to be the hands and feet of Christ. 00:42:02.32\00:42:05.12 And young people want to serve, 00:42:05.15\00:42:06.76 young people want to make a difference in a tangible way 00:42:06.79\00:42:09.76 and this is the best way to do it. 00:42:09.79\00:42:11.79 And, you know, Moise, that was intentional. 00:42:11.83\00:42:13.60 We picked Christmas at very intentionally. 00:42:13.63\00:42:16.56 It's the day the world, 00:42:16.60\00:42:18.03 whether we believe in Christ or not. 00:42:18.07\00:42:19.53 The world celebrates the gift of God 00:42:19.57\00:42:22.40 through the eternal life, eternal health 00:42:22.44\00:42:24.97 through His Son Jesus 00:42:25.01\00:42:26.34 and we get to be that physical gift 00:42:26.37\00:42:28.44 of whole person healing, 00:42:28.48\00:42:29.91 physical, mental, emotional, 00:42:29.94\00:42:31.78 and spiritual health on the day 00:42:31.81\00:42:33.48 that we celebrate that gift of life. 00:42:33.52\00:42:35.62 And you know that very fact 00:42:35.65\00:42:38.55 of Seventh-day Adventist coming together 00:42:38.59\00:42:40.69 not to give up their Christmas, 00:42:40.72\00:42:42.26 but to gain the best Christmas ever has gained 00:42:42.29\00:42:45.03 the attention of the highest levels 00:42:45.06\00:42:46.93 of our federal government. 00:42:46.96\00:42:48.50 The governor's office, the mayor's office, 00:42:48.53\00:42:50.97 some of the largest health care networks in the United States 00:42:51.00\00:42:53.87 and largest health insurance companies 00:42:53.90\00:42:56.24 are actually giving financially 00:42:56.27\00:42:59.01 to make Pathway Phoenix a huge success for God. 00:42:59.04\00:43:01.74 In fact, we have 307,000 square feet available to us 00:43:01.78\00:43:06.31 at the Phoenix Convention Center 00:43:06.35\00:43:08.08 to be able to service 10,000 patients 00:43:08.12\00:43:10.45 in two and a half days. 00:43:10.49\00:43:12.05 Well, that's really phenomenal. 00:43:12.09\00:43:13.42 Now you have a particular target audience if you will, 00:43:13.46\00:43:17.23 that you're hoping to reach at this event? 00:43:17.26\00:43:19.09 You know, that is the most exciting thing to me. 00:43:19.13\00:43:22.20 There are thousands upon thousands 00:43:22.23\00:43:24.90 upon thousands of refugees 00:43:24.93\00:43:27.17 in the Phoenix area from countries 00:43:27.20\00:43:28.97 all around the world including the 10/40, 00:43:29.00\00:43:31.21 which we haven't been able to reach. 00:43:31.24\00:43:32.94 And we are planning, working with the Arizona Conference 00:43:32.97\00:43:35.61 not only to reach them 00:43:35.64\00:43:37.45 but their family members in their own home countries. 00:43:37.48\00:43:40.58 So this sounds like it's right up your alley, Duane McKey. 00:43:40.62\00:43:42.48 Oh, yes, it is exciting and thrilling. 00:43:42.52\00:43:44.09 You know, a PS first, 00:43:44.12\00:43:45.45 I just want to say I just talked to Pastor Rudguree, 00:43:45.49\00:43:47.36 he's sitting right back there from East Africa. 00:43:47.39\00:43:49.32 He did the same method over there, 00:43:49.36\00:43:51.43 Pathways method and then evangelism. 00:43:51.46\00:43:53.76 He just told me Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, 00:43:53.80\00:43:57.13 they just baptized 251,000 people this year. 00:43:57.17\00:44:02.17 Amen.
