Amen. 00:04:27.00\00:04:28.83 What we all need 00:04:28.86\00:04:30.23 as that song has just illustrated is victory. 00:04:30.27\00:04:34.14 What is that word? 00:04:34.20\00:04:35.54 Victory. Victory. 00:04:35.57\00:04:36.91 You don't join a losing team 00:04:36.94\00:04:39.64 and nobody celebrates when the team loses 00:04:39.67\00:04:44.01 and in the very same way, we can all celebrate 00:04:44.05\00:04:47.48 because we have victory in Jesus. 00:04:47.52\00:04:51.55 Now this topic particularly 00:04:51.59\00:04:53.72 as I mentioned caught my attention, 00:04:53.76\00:04:56.22 as I was studying and I thought, you know, 00:04:56.26\00:04:59.03 what is our greatest enemy in the world? 00:04:59.06\00:05:04.40 And our greatest enemy is not war, 00:05:04.43\00:05:07.24 not rumors of war, not plagues, 00:05:07.27\00:05:10.94 not the economy, not terrorism, 00:05:10.97\00:05:14.88 our greatest enemy is S-I-N and what is that? 00:05:14.91\00:05:18.55 Sin. 00:05:18.58\00:05:19.91 Because that's the only thing, sin is the only thing 00:05:19.95\00:05:23.69 that can prevent us from being saved. 00:05:23.72\00:05:26.12 Sin is the only thing that can hinder us 00:05:26.15\00:05:29.19 from making the kingdom. 00:05:29.22\00:05:30.63 And so when you think of something 00:05:30.66\00:05:31.99 so vitally important and you understand it 00:05:32.03\00:05:35.00 as clearly as the Bible communicates it, 00:05:35.03\00:05:39.53 you've got to ask yourself the question. 00:05:39.57\00:05:42.17 How could something so important be overlooked? 00:05:42.20\00:05:46.34 How could it be a topic that 00:05:46.37\00:05:49.14 happens to roll out somewhere along the way when in fact, 00:05:49.18\00:05:53.25 it is the one topic that if clearly understood, 00:05:53.28\00:05:57.49 it brings us to the place 00:05:57.55\00:05:59.12 where we can find victory in Jesus. 00:05:59.15\00:06:01.82 Now, I want to describe Jesus' mission 00:06:01.86\00:06:03.76 before we go any further, 00:06:03.79\00:06:05.13 before we dive into our questions. 00:06:05.16\00:06:06.49 Open your Bibles with me to Matthew 1, 00:06:06.53\00:06:10.60 to Matthew 1. 00:06:10.67\00:06:12.77 Okay. 00:06:15.80\00:06:18.44 Matthew 1. 00:06:18.47\00:06:21.84 Now it is clearly obvious 00:06:21.88\00:06:25.21 that when sin entered the world, 00:06:25.25\00:06:31.15 we were all caught in a quandary, 00:06:31.19\00:06:34.19 a quandary that means an unsolvable riddle, 00:06:34.26\00:06:39.16 something that we did not have the answer for, 00:06:39.19\00:06:41.63 but Jesus had the answer for it. 00:06:41.66\00:06:44.13 And although 2000 years had passed 00:06:44.17\00:06:46.90 by the time Jesus came 00:06:46.94\00:06:48.44 to begin His earthly mission and ministry. 00:06:48.47\00:06:53.48 He didn't lose the focus 00:06:53.54\00:06:55.81 that was the key element of his mission, 00:06:55.84\00:06:58.05 and it was described when Mary was told 00:06:58.08\00:07:03.15 what name to give her child. 00:07:03.18\00:07:05.32 Matthew 1:21, let's look at that, 00:07:05.35\00:07:08.56 Matthew 1:21 after the genealogy, we read, 00:07:08.59\00:07:12.73 "And she will bring forth a Son, 00:07:12.76\00:07:15.93 and you shall call His name, together, Jesus, 00:07:15.96\00:07:19.53 for He will do" what? 00:07:19.57\00:07:22.24 Give me some energy, for he will do what? 00:07:22.27\00:07:24.21 "Save His people from their sins." 00:07:24.24\00:07:28.74 He saves them from the things they do, 00:07:28.78\00:07:31.31 but sin is even deeper than the things we do. 00:07:31.35\00:07:35.18 It's deeper than the things we do. 00:07:35.22\00:07:37.49 If you had a dog that bit you four days in the week, 00:07:37.52\00:07:41.82 would you keep him? 00:07:41.86\00:07:44.13 When you couldn't predict when he's going to bite you, 00:07:44.16\00:07:46.36 you really wouldn't. 00:07:46.39\00:07:48.43 If you saw those signs and I've seen them 00:07:48.46\00:07:50.73 before dog on duty five days a week, 00:07:50.77\00:07:53.74 guess which five? 00:07:53.80\00:07:55.14 Have you ever seen that sign before? 00:07:55.17\00:07:56.50 People put those up, 00:07:56.54\00:07:57.87 you don't really approach the fence 00:07:57.91\00:07:59.24 because you don't know what day 00:07:59.27\00:08:00.68 it's going to be on guard 00:08:00.71\00:08:02.04 and they say vicious dog or mean dog, 00:08:02.08\00:08:04.78 and they put a sign there never of a poodle 00:08:04.81\00:08:07.28 but always some mean looking dog. 00:08:07.35\00:08:10.55 Sin is deeper than S-I-N-S, those are the things we do. 00:08:10.62\00:08:14.82 Now go with me to John 1, John 1. 00:08:14.86\00:08:19.73 Sin is the things we do. 00:08:19.76\00:08:24.97 But sin is deeper than that. 00:08:25.00\00:08:26.67 I think last week I showed you a picture 00:08:30.14\00:08:31.84 of a good tree and a bad tree, good fruit and rotten fruit. 00:08:31.87\00:08:35.98 And the fruit are rotten if the roots are bad. 00:08:36.01\00:08:38.98 The problem always is at the root. 00:08:39.01\00:08:41.32 In what we just read in Matthew 1:21, 00:08:41.35\00:08:43.99 those are the fruit. 00:08:44.02\00:08:46.45 But John 1:29 is the root, look at this. 00:08:46.49\00:08:53.19 Call his name Jesus but now, he had another name, 00:08:53.23\00:08:56.26 he had another designation. 00:08:56.30\00:08:58.53 "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, 00:08:58.57\00:09:04.41 " let's read that together with some oomph. 00:09:04.44\00:09:06.31 What did he say? 00:09:06.34\00:09:07.68 "Behold! 00:09:07.71\00:09:09.04 The Lamb of God who takes away" what? 00:09:09.08\00:09:11.38 "The sin of the world!" 00:09:11.41\00:09:14.45 He takes away the sin, singular. 00:09:14.48\00:09:17.25 He doesn't say sins, sins are plural. 00:09:17.32\00:09:20.99 The sin is singular, 00:09:21.02\00:09:23.12 so if you were to narrow down one sin 00:09:23.16\00:09:26.96 that could condemn all of humanity, 00:09:27.03\00:09:30.60 what sin would it be? 00:09:30.67\00:09:32.00 Which one would you pick? 00:09:32.03\00:09:34.04 And I'm going to describe to you 00:09:34.07\00:09:35.40 exactly what that sin is. 00:09:35.44\00:09:36.91 Which one would you pick? 00:09:36.94\00:09:39.51 Let's go to question number seven. 00:09:39.54\00:09:42.04 Let's go to question number seven. 00:09:42.08\00:09:43.75 Which one would you pick? 00:09:43.78\00:09:45.25 You'll probably rack your brains 00:09:48.32\00:09:49.82 to figure out which one, 00:09:49.85\00:09:51.85 which one sin could condemn all of humanity, 00:09:51.89\00:09:55.09 which one would you pick? 00:09:55.12\00:09:57.03 Okay. Here's the question. 00:09:57.06\00:10:00.03 How does the Bible describe the impact? 00:10:00.10\00:10:04.13 Question number seven on the screen. 00:10:04.17\00:10:05.73 How does the Bible describe 00:10:05.77\00:10:07.64 the impact of the sin of one man? 00:10:07.67\00:10:11.57 Let's look at this, 1 Corinthians 15:22 00:10:11.61\00:10:16.04 and since it is on the screen I'll read in your hearing, 00:10:16.08\00:10:18.98 the Bible says, "For as in Adam..." 00:10:19.01\00:10:21.65 how many of us? 00:10:21.68\00:10:23.12 "All die, even so in Christ" how many of us? 00:10:23.15\00:10:26.96 "All shall be made alive." 00:10:27.02\00:10:28.99 Now I want you to get this, 00:10:29.02\00:10:30.39 all on the left, all on the right, 00:10:30.43\00:10:33.96 if you are an in Adam how many die? 00:10:34.00\00:10:35.93 All. 00:10:35.96\00:10:37.30 If you are in Christ, how many live? 00:10:37.33\00:10:38.67 All. 00:10:38.70\00:10:40.07 But notice the text there it says, 00:10:40.10\00:10:41.44 "All shall be made alive." 00:10:41.47\00:10:42.80 And what in essence is being said here 00:10:42.84\00:10:45.07 is until Christ came as the Lamb of God, 00:10:45.11\00:10:50.21 The Lamb is the one that takes away the sin. 00:10:50.28\00:10:52.58 What was a lamb used for? 00:10:52.61\00:10:54.18 The lamb was used for the sacrificial system, 00:10:54.25\00:10:57.12 the ceremonial services in order for sin to be forgiven 00:10:57.15\00:11:02.29 the lamb's blood had to be shed 00:11:02.32\00:11:04.26 where there is no shedding or spilling of blood, 00:11:04.33\00:11:07.40 there is no remission or reversing of sin. 00:11:07.40\00:11:10.43 So the lamb had to come in that designation the who... 00:11:10.47\00:11:15.17 What His mission is was described in Matthew 1:21. 00:11:15.20\00:11:18.91 How that mission is going to be described 00:11:18.94\00:11:21.38 or how that mission is going to be accomplished 00:11:21.41\00:11:23.61 was described in John 1:29. 00:11:23.65\00:11:26.78 He's coming as the lamb. 00:11:26.82\00:11:29.32 He's coming as the lamb. 00:11:29.35\00:11:31.29 Now, it wouldn't make any sense for him 00:11:31.32\00:11:32.89 to be described as a lion 00:11:32.92\00:11:34.26 because they never use a lion in the temple services. 00:11:34.29\00:11:38.93 But they did use the lamb. 00:11:38.96\00:11:41.73 And they used what kind of lamb? 00:11:41.76\00:11:43.20 What kind of lamb was it? 00:11:43.23\00:11:45.03 Spotless lamb, 00:11:45.07\00:11:47.47 without any wrinkle, without any defect, 00:11:47.50\00:11:50.44 so when they used the word lamb, 00:11:50.47\00:11:52.01 when the Bible uses the word lamb, it says, 00:11:52.04\00:11:55.21 here is His mission but here is His function. 00:11:55.24\00:11:58.15 He's functioning as the lamb. 00:11:58.18\00:11:59.78 He has to spill His blood, and when His blood is spilled. 00:11:59.81\00:12:04.59 When you think about sin and I study this 00:12:04.62\00:12:07.19 and when you think about the lamb, 00:12:07.26\00:12:09.02 you see the, the offender was to bring the lamb 00:12:09.06\00:12:13.60 to the temple. 00:12:13.63\00:12:15.40 And he was given a bowl and he was given a knife 00:12:15.43\00:12:18.23 as the priest stood there and held the lamb. 00:12:18.27\00:12:23.07 And then he was told to take that knife 00:12:23.10\00:12:25.21 and slit the throat of the lamb, 00:12:25.24\00:12:28.64 but not just to slit his throat, 00:12:28.68\00:12:30.51 to hold the bowl under the throat of the lamb 00:12:30.55\00:12:33.82 as the blood poured into the bowl, 00:12:33.88\00:12:36.38 and he was told to keep his eyes 00:12:36.42\00:12:38.89 fixed on the lamb. 00:12:38.92\00:12:40.36 Look to me and be saved. 00:12:40.42\00:12:44.19 Fix his eyes on the lamb 00:12:44.23\00:12:46.96 until the blood as it's shedding out, 00:12:47.00\00:12:49.43 as it's pouring out, 00:12:49.46\00:12:50.80 the lamb... 00:12:50.83\00:12:52.17 flickers until there's no more life in him 00:12:56.74\00:13:00.21 and he falls dead to the ground. 00:13:00.28\00:13:06.21 How do you think that person felt? 00:13:06.25\00:13:10.82 Can't even describe it? 00:13:10.89\00:13:14.46 Spotless little lamb didn't do anything. 00:13:14.49\00:13:18.83 And he takes him to his place of death. 00:13:18.86\00:13:22.36 But even more ignominious than the death of the Lamb 00:13:22.40\00:13:28.74 was the continuation of the existence of sin. 00:13:28.77\00:13:31.61 And I want to put this in the proper perspective, 00:13:31.64\00:13:33.48 the lamb had to die, but even more ignominious, 00:13:33.54\00:13:36.24 more diabolical than the death of the lamb 00:13:36.28\00:13:39.11 was the continued existence of sin, 00:13:39.15\00:13:42.22 because the wages of sin is death. 00:13:42.25\00:13:45.39 Somebody had to die. 00:13:45.42\00:13:47.46 And in the economy, 00:13:47.52\00:13:49.66 in the transition of this entire function 00:13:49.69\00:13:53.36 there were only two choices as in Adam all die, 00:13:53.40\00:13:56.60 Jesus could have said, you guys died 00:13:56.63\00:13:58.67 because you're the ones out of the sinners. 00:13:58.70\00:14:02.07 Or I die to save my people from their sin, 00:14:02.10\00:14:06.07 Matthew 1:21 00:14:06.11\00:14:08.71 so "For God so loved the world 00:14:08.74\00:14:10.68 that He gave His all only begotten Son." 00:14:10.75\00:14:14.02 The only lamb is the Son of God. 00:14:14.05\00:14:17.82 "That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, 00:14:17.85\00:14:21.12 but have everlasting life." 00:14:21.16\00:14:22.86 You know the rest but I want to focus on the, 00:14:22.89\00:14:24.23 should not perish. 00:14:24.26\00:14:25.59 Jesus decided that He was going to perish instead of us. 00:14:25.63\00:14:29.90 And when I thought about that, when I think about that, 00:14:29.93\00:14:31.73 it really, it really brings you to a broken place, 00:14:31.77\00:14:35.47 meaning a sorrow for sin 00:14:35.50\00:14:38.54 and then a determination by his indwelling spirit 00:14:38.57\00:14:41.88 not to live in that kind of life. 00:14:41.91\00:14:44.28 Not to live there 00:14:44.31\00:14:45.65 because every time, every time we sin, 00:14:45.68\00:14:49.05 we crucify the Son of God afresh, 00:14:49.08\00:14:52.39 when we live a life in determents. 00:14:52.42\00:14:54.12 And I'm not talking about stumbling 00:14:54.16\00:14:55.86 but living a life in intentional sin, 00:14:55.89\00:14:59.23 and so Jesus came and the text says, 00:14:59.26\00:15:01.60 for as an Adam, how many of us die? 00:15:01.63\00:15:04.07 All die, so put that down, 00:15:04.10\00:15:05.47 how does the Bible describe the impact of sin, 00:15:05.50\00:15:08.24 the sin of one man, how many die? 00:15:08.27\00:15:10.91 All die. 00:15:10.94\00:15:12.27 Now we're going to come back to this verse later on 00:15:12.31\00:15:15.21 because the impact of one man's sin 00:15:15.24\00:15:18.11 and the impact of one man's righteousness, 00:15:18.15\00:15:21.28 there's no comparison. 00:15:21.32\00:15:23.89 The impact of one man's sin 00:15:23.92\00:15:26.62 can never supersede the impact of one man's righteousness, 00:15:26.65\00:15:30.43 that's the good news but, but let's look, 00:15:30.46\00:15:34.00 let's go further. 00:15:34.00\00:15:35.73 Let's go to question number eight. 00:15:35.76\00:15:38.00 Go to question number eight. 00:15:38.03\00:15:41.24 Where does sin have its greatest impact? 00:15:41.27\00:15:45.31 Where does sin have its greatest impact? 00:15:45.34\00:15:48.18 Look at that and we're going to Romans 7:17. 00:15:48.21\00:15:50.61 Romans 7 is a book that was written in harmony 00:15:50.65\00:15:55.38 with Paul's conversion. 00:15:55.42\00:15:58.22 Romans 7 was not written before Paul's conversion, 00:15:58.25\00:16:01.62 it was written after Paul's conversion, 00:16:01.66\00:16:03.66 and the reason I mentioned that 00:16:03.69\00:16:05.03 is because Paul outlines his struggle 00:16:05.06\00:16:06.86 when all of a sudden he becomes fully aware 00:16:06.93\00:16:09.40 that there's a speed limit. 00:16:09.43\00:16:11.13 When he becomes fully aware that there's a law 00:16:11.17\00:16:13.34 that he's now living in violation of. 00:16:13.37\00:16:15.70 You know, when you live in violation of the law, 00:16:15.74\00:16:18.64 you don't walk around with a clear conscience. 00:16:18.67\00:16:21.48 When you know that you're a bank robber, 00:16:21.51\00:16:23.08 you don't hang out at the coffee shop 00:16:23.11\00:16:25.45 where police have lunch, right? 00:16:25.48\00:16:29.35 When you know you're a wanted man, 00:16:29.38\00:16:31.82 you don't hang out in visible places. 00:16:31.85\00:16:35.12 When you know you've done something wrong, 00:16:35.16\00:16:37.23 you try your best to do like your fore parents, 00:16:37.26\00:16:39.83 Adam and Eve, you want to hide. 00:16:39.86\00:16:42.53 But, when the analysis is taken, 00:16:42.56\00:16:47.94 when the diagnosis comes forth, how does this happen? 00:16:47.97\00:16:53.74 Remember as in Adam, how many die? 00:16:53.78\00:16:55.71 Okay. 00:16:55.74\00:16:57.11 When we come forth with the spiritual diagnosis 00:16:57.15\00:16:59.38 of how sin keeps permeating itself, 00:16:59.41\00:17:01.72 how it keeps going, how it keeps alive, 00:17:01.75\00:17:04.59 this text answers the question very carefully. 00:17:04.62\00:17:06.89 Where does sin have its greatest impact? 00:17:06.92\00:17:08.62 Romans 7:17. Let's look at this together. 00:17:08.66\00:17:11.59 Paul says, "But now it is no longer I who do it" 00:17:11.63\00:17:15.33 but what? 00:17:15.36\00:17:16.90 Sin that dwells" where? 00:17:16.97\00:17:18.73 "In me." 00:17:18.77\00:17:20.14 Have you... 00:17:20.17\00:17:21.50 I've met people that have had diagnoses, 00:17:21.54\00:17:23.14 they've said, "I was just diagnosed 00:17:23.17\00:17:25.24 with a brain tumor." 00:17:25.27\00:17:27.18 "Well, I was diagnosed with a small spot on my liver." 00:17:27.21\00:17:30.25 Or I was diagnosed with... 00:17:30.28\00:17:32.25 There's a shadow they don't know what it is. 00:17:32.28\00:17:34.02 You know, that's the most fearful thing 00:17:34.05\00:17:37.09 in all of us because we know what it could be. 00:17:37.12\00:17:39.29 We think of the big C word and what's that? 00:17:39.32\00:17:42.09 Cancer. 00:17:42.12\00:17:43.46 Once we... Oh, they found something. 00:17:43.53\00:17:45.49 I remember being under the care of doctors 00:17:45.53\00:17:47.83 here in Southern Illinois that we found a little, 00:17:47.86\00:17:50.43 little tiny thing in your lung, 00:17:50.47\00:17:52.77 we're going to watch it for two years, 00:17:52.80\00:17:54.97 I just need to say after October last year 00:17:55.00\00:17:58.11 I have been cleared because he said, 00:17:58.14\00:18:00.44 it's just an artifact, it's some kind of anomaly, 00:18:00.51\00:18:04.08 it hasn't moved, it hasn't changed, 00:18:04.11\00:18:06.21 its shape hasn't moved, 00:18:06.25\00:18:07.58 it hasn't gotten bigger or smaller, 00:18:07.65\00:18:09.22 it's some anomaly and those are not unusual 00:18:09.25\00:18:11.85 for there to be some kind of calcification 00:18:11.89\00:18:13.59 in the human body, and I said, thank you Jesus. 00:18:13.62\00:18:18.63 Because when you have... 00:18:18.66\00:18:20.03 When cancer shows up anywhere, you know, you know, 00:18:20.06\00:18:24.07 that you are no longer in control, 00:18:24.10\00:18:25.90 I'm using this illustration. 00:18:25.93\00:18:27.27 You know, you are no longer in control because Paul says, 00:18:27.34\00:18:30.21 sin that dwells where, in me, 00:18:30.24\00:18:32.41 and then all of a sudden you go through all the... 00:18:32.44\00:18:34.54 Well, I need to change my regimen. 00:18:34.58\00:18:36.41 I need to take this medication. 00:18:36.44\00:18:37.81 I need to eat this way, live this way. 00:18:37.85\00:18:39.85 I need to avoid that. I need to take that. 00:18:39.88\00:18:42.18 We start meandering in the maze of what do we do 00:18:42.22\00:18:46.32 to remedy the situation. 00:18:46.35\00:18:48.76 When heaven looked at us, 00:18:48.79\00:18:51.19 I want to give you 00:18:51.23\00:18:52.56 the beautiful good news tonight on this text. 00:18:52.59\00:18:54.10 When heaven looked at us, 00:18:54.20\00:18:55.83 heaven saw that we were all born 00:18:55.86\00:18:59.73 with a cancer cell in every one of us 00:18:59.77\00:19:02.50 and that cancer cell is spelled S-I-N. 00:19:02.54\00:19:05.47 What is it called? 00:19:05.51\00:19:06.84 Sin, it dwells in us. 00:19:06.91\00:19:08.24 So Jesus, the master physician comes with a diagnosis. 00:19:08.28\00:19:12.31 The diagnosis is as in Adam, you're all going to die. 00:19:12.35\00:19:15.65 But I'm coming as the master physician 00:19:15.68\00:19:17.62 to give you the remedy and the remedy is my blood. 00:19:17.65\00:19:20.59 When the blood is applied sin is reversed. 00:19:20.62\00:19:22.89 But what I want you to see carefully 00:19:22.92\00:19:24.59 as we could do nothing about the sin or the cancer in us, 00:19:24.63\00:19:28.16 we can't emotionally do anything 00:19:28.20\00:19:29.90 about the sin in us, 00:19:29.93\00:19:31.63 because it's no longer I who do it but what? 00:19:31.67\00:19:34.27 Sin that dwells in me. 00:19:34.30\00:19:36.20 So where does sin have its greatest impact? 00:19:36.24\00:19:38.21 Put these two words, in me, in me. 00:19:38.24\00:19:42.18 Not in society, but in me. 00:19:42.21\00:19:46.28 Not in society. 00:19:46.31\00:19:49.15 Not in society. 00:19:49.18\00:19:51.15 And as much as we would like to say, 00:19:51.19\00:19:53.56 well, it's the air we breathe, it's the water we drink. 00:19:53.59\00:19:56.73 I know people that live completely healthy lives, 00:19:56.76\00:19:59.76 and they still get some kind of disease, 00:19:59.79\00:20:01.70 that's the lot of humanity, sin entered the world. 00:20:01.73\00:20:04.53 Now, let's look at question number where? 00:20:04.57\00:20:06.70 Question number what? 00:20:06.74\00:20:08.14 Question number nine. Okay. 00:20:08.17\00:20:10.37 Why are we incapable of producing righteousness? 00:20:10.41\00:20:17.05 Romans 3:23. 00:20:17.11\00:20:18.61 Romans is a tremendous book to remain in. 00:20:18.65\00:20:21.78 Romans 3:23. 00:20:21.82\00:20:24.69 Look at it. 00:20:24.72\00:20:26.32 Romans 3:23. 00:20:26.35\00:20:29.12 Wow. 00:20:29.16\00:20:32.16 And once again we're going to see some words 00:20:32.19\00:20:33.90 that seem to be repetitious, okay. 00:20:33.96\00:20:36.90 What is it? 00:20:36.93\00:20:38.27 For how many of us? 00:20:38.30\00:20:40.47 "All have sinned and do what? 00:20:40.50\00:20:42.94 Falls short of the glory of God." 00:20:42.97\00:20:45.21 Now why do we... 00:20:45.24\00:20:46.61 When you look at a baby, 00:20:46.64\00:20:47.98 do you think of a baby as a sinner? 00:20:48.01\00:20:51.38 A baby hasn't committed S-I-N-S 00:20:51.41\00:20:54.78 but a baby is in S-I-N. 00:20:54.82\00:20:59.15 For Adam passed on to you and to you 00:20:59.19\00:21:01.72 and to me and all of us this nature called sin. 00:21:01.76\00:21:06.90 So when the Bible says, that Jesus became sin for us, 00:21:06.93\00:21:12.73 it didn't say Jesus became sins for us, 00:21:12.77\00:21:16.24 because if Jesus became sins for us, 00:21:16.27\00:21:19.37 He can never be our savior. 00:21:19.41\00:21:21.08 So what did He do? 00:21:21.11\00:21:22.71 Let's answer the question here. 00:21:22.74\00:21:24.65 Romans 6:23, write that down, 00:21:24.68\00:21:27.58 why are we incapable of producing righteousness? 00:21:27.62\00:21:30.69 The first answer is why? 00:21:30.75\00:21:32.55 All have sinned. 00:21:32.59\00:21:34.29 If you can put it another way, we all have Adam's nature, 00:21:34.32\00:21:37.79 and then one more, one more. 00:21:37.83\00:21:41.40 Psalm 51:5. 00:21:41.43\00:21:43.90 Psalm 51:5, look at the scripture. 00:21:43.93\00:21:46.37 Look at the scripture. 00:21:46.40\00:21:48.10 And the Bible says, 00:21:48.14\00:21:50.54 "Behold, I was brought forth in" what? 00:21:50.57\00:21:54.61 "Iniquity and in sin my mother conceived me." 00:21:54.64\00:22:00.15 This passage is not talking about an unwed mother. 00:22:00.22\00:22:04.85 This passage is saying, when we are born, 00:22:04.89\00:22:07.69 we are born in a world of iniquity, 00:22:07.72\00:22:10.63 we are born in a world of sin, in sin she conceived me. 00:22:10.66\00:22:15.80 In other words, that's the entrance, 00:22:15.83\00:22:17.17 when we came in, 00:22:17.23\00:22:18.57 the moment you took your first breath, 00:22:18.60\00:22:21.10 we were all in S-I-N. 00:22:21.14\00:22:24.21 We're all in what? Sin. 00:22:24.27\00:22:26.44 A baby is completely innocent of S-I-N-S, 00:22:26.47\00:22:29.01 you cannot prosecute a child when all that child wants to do 00:22:29.04\00:22:32.05 is eat and sleep and have his or her diapers change. 00:22:32.08\00:22:34.95 They have done nothing wrong. 00:22:34.98\00:22:36.58 But given time if you don't train that child 00:22:36.65\00:22:39.69 in the way he or she should go, 00:22:39.72\00:22:41.09 when they get older what happens? 00:22:41.12\00:22:43.43 Then you start seeing the S-I-N turn into S-I-N-S, 00:22:43.49\00:22:49.30 then you start seeing 00:22:49.33\00:22:50.70 the nature begin to act itself out 00:22:50.73\00:22:52.43 because the nature takes over. 00:22:52.47\00:22:54.60 Have you seen unruly children in Wal-Mart? 00:22:54.64\00:22:57.97 Come on talk to me. 00:22:58.01\00:22:59.47 Have you seen them anywhere? 00:22:59.51\00:23:01.51 Man, I tell you when a child... 00:23:01.54\00:23:03.85 I've seen children that stare their mothers down 00:23:03.88\00:23:06.21 and tell them what they're not going to 00:23:06.25\00:23:07.98 and they yell, "I hate you." 00:23:08.02\00:23:10.62 You know, why they say that? That is the nature of Adam. 00:23:10.69\00:23:15.72 I hate, they don't say, I dislike you, mom. 00:23:15.76\00:23:20.00 They go to the word that a little child you wonder 00:23:20.03\00:23:23.16 where did he or she get that word from? 00:23:23.20\00:23:25.67 It's in the nature, it's there, it comes out 00:23:25.70\00:23:28.34 when the child doesn't get his or her way. 00:23:28.37\00:23:30.67 I hate. 00:23:30.71\00:23:34.28 So the answer to this one is according to this, 00:23:34.31\00:23:37.31 did you all put your answers down. 00:23:37.35\00:23:39.05 We were all born in an atmosphere of iniquity. 00:23:39.08\00:23:41.78 We were all born into a world of sin. 00:23:41.82\00:23:44.15 The moment you took your first breath, 00:23:44.19\00:23:46.02 you were condemned, 00:23:46.05\00:23:47.52 you were born into a circumstance, 00:23:47.56\00:23:50.69 in a situation that the only one 00:23:50.73\00:23:52.43 that can remedy that is who? 00:23:52.46\00:23:54.63 Jesus, only Christ. 00:23:54.66\00:23:56.70 Let's go even further. Let's build our case. 00:23:56.73\00:23:59.53 Question number ten. Question number ten. 00:23:59.57\00:24:02.20 I think that's where we ended on our last study, 00:24:02.24\00:24:04.34 but just for the benefit of those of you 00:24:04.37\00:24:05.71 who were not here, 00:24:05.74\00:24:07.08 I drew back a little bit to earlier questions. 00:24:07.11\00:24:09.14 Question number ten. 00:24:09.18\00:24:10.75 How does the Bible further describe 00:24:10.78\00:24:13.45 the effects of sin? 00:24:13.52\00:24:15.52 Since you all know this text so well, 00:24:15.55\00:24:16.99 I just not hold out on you, Roman 6:23, 00:24:17.02\00:24:20.99 let's read this together, "The wages of sin is" what? 00:24:21.02\00:24:24.79 "Death, but the gift of God is" what? 00:24:24.83\00:24:27.60 "Eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." 00:24:27.60\00:24:30.53 Now, what I like about a couple of the text we read so far, 00:24:30.57\00:24:33.50 I like all the texts but the illustrative point 00:24:33.54\00:24:35.80 I want to make is in, 00:24:35.84\00:24:37.37 in 1 Corinthians 15:22 the Bible says 00:24:37.41\00:24:40.34 as in Adam all die, but it didn't end there, 00:24:40.38\00:24:42.64 it says even so in Christ all shall be made alive." 00:24:42.68\00:24:45.45 Then Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, 00:24:45.48\00:24:48.58 and then but the gift of God is eternal life." 00:24:48.62\00:24:50.75 Wherever sin is revealed, Christ is revealed. 00:24:50.79\00:24:55.82 And notice what it didn't say, it didn't say, 00:24:55.86\00:24:58.63 it didn't say all shall be made alive 00:24:58.66\00:25:01.46 but as in Adam all die. 00:25:01.50\00:25:04.17 It showed you the problem and it showed you the remedy. 00:25:04.20\00:25:09.14 It didn't say the gift of God is eternal life 00:25:09.17\00:25:11.07 but the wages of sin is death. 00:25:11.11\00:25:13.68 The Bible always accentuates the positive. 00:25:13.71\00:25:15.98 Can you say amen to that? 00:25:16.01\00:25:17.35 It shows you your condition then it shows you the remedy. 00:25:17.38\00:25:20.32 It doesn't say, here's the remedy 00:25:20.35\00:25:22.15 but you're messed up. 00:25:22.18\00:25:25.35 Amen? 00:25:25.39\00:25:26.96 It says, I know you're messed up, 00:25:26.99\00:25:28.86 but here's the remedy. 00:25:28.89\00:25:31.39 It's like one of those, I have good news and bad news 00:25:31.43\00:25:33.90 and what do we often say? 00:25:33.93\00:25:35.23 What do we often say? What do you want first? 00:25:35.26\00:25:36.73 The good news or bad news, you want what? 00:25:36.77\00:25:40.40 Well, you ought to switch that around, 00:25:40.44\00:25:42.67 get the bad news first, 00:25:42.70\00:25:44.44 you don't want the last thing to be bad news, am I right? 00:25:44.47\00:25:48.11 Okay, what's the worst of it? 00:25:48.14\00:25:50.61 Okay, what's the best of it? 00:25:50.65\00:25:52.38 I feel better. 00:25:52.41\00:25:54.12 Don't ask for the bad news last. 00:25:54.18\00:25:56.02 Let the bad news go. 00:25:56.05\00:25:57.39 I wish the news reporters would say 00:25:57.45\00:25:59.42 instead of there's a 40% chance of rain, 00:25:59.45\00:26:01.29 I wish they would say, 00:26:01.32\00:26:02.66 there's a 60% chance of sunshine, right. 00:26:02.69\00:26:07.40 Think positively. 00:26:07.46\00:26:08.80 You know, we have a, coming up here 00:26:08.83\00:26:12.00 with a horrible season, 00:26:12.03\00:26:13.37 we don't know what season it is anyway. 00:26:13.44\00:26:16.14 When there is spring, 00:26:16.17\00:26:17.51 the next day it's almost summer, 00:26:17.54\00:26:18.91 the flowers bud and then they want to die, 00:26:18.94\00:26:20.61 then they want to hide and then they want to come out. 00:26:20.68\00:26:22.61 It's like almost summer, no jacket, 00:26:22.64\00:26:24.75 but then snow is forecast in a few days, 00:26:24.78\00:26:27.88 I hope it doesn't happen. 00:26:27.92\00:26:30.19 Because, because even nature itself 00:26:30.22\00:26:31.95 is going through this discombobulated 00:26:31.99\00:26:35.16 almost arrhythmia of what do we do? 00:26:35.19\00:26:38.23 We don't have any control of our environment 00:26:38.26\00:26:40.70 and that's what sin does, 00:26:40.73\00:26:42.03 sin takes the control of your environment 00:26:42.06\00:26:43.43 out of your hand. 00:26:43.47\00:26:44.80 So write that down, how do we further describe... 00:26:44.83\00:26:46.30 How does the Bible further describe 00:26:46.33\00:26:47.67 the effect of sin? 00:26:47.70\00:26:49.04 Simply with one word death, one word death. 00:26:49.07\00:26:53.88 Now, let's go to number 11. 00:26:53.94\00:26:57.91 Let's go to number 11. 00:26:57.95\00:27:00.85 One was producing righteousness, 00:27:00.88\00:27:03.02 the other one is producing good. 00:27:03.05\00:27:06.65 All right. 00:27:06.69\00:27:08.29 Almost the same question, 00:27:08.32\00:27:10.29 but a little different approach I'm going to take. 00:27:10.36\00:27:13.36 All right question number 11. 00:27:13.43\00:27:16.26 How do we know 00:27:16.30\00:27:17.90 that we are not capable of producing good? 00:27:17.93\00:27:22.10 Now there's a reason I want you to go to Matthew 7:17, 18. 00:27:22.14\00:27:25.54 This is the text that says to you, 00:27:25.57\00:27:27.64 when you meet a person that doesn't know Jesus, 00:27:27.68\00:27:30.25 don't insist that they live right. 00:27:30.28\00:27:32.95 Look at me. 00:27:32.98\00:27:34.45 When you meet a person that does not know Jesus 00:27:34.48\00:27:36.69 regardless of their age, don't say, you know, better. 00:27:36.72\00:27:39.62 They might intellectually know better, 00:27:44.43\00:27:45.96 but they can't do better. 00:27:45.99\00:27:48.96 Here's a reason why? 00:27:49.00\00:27:50.67 Matthew 7:17, 18 you all are there? 00:27:50.73\00:27:55.77 Here it is, 00:27:55.80\00:27:57.67 "Even so every, together, good tree bears" what? 00:27:57.71\00:28:03.58 "Good fruit, but a bad tree bears" what? 00:28:03.61\00:28:07.38 "Bad fruit." Now here is the law. 00:28:07.45\00:28:10.02 Verse 18 is the law. 00:28:10.05\00:28:12.62 "A good tree, together, cannot bear bad fruit, 00:28:12.65\00:28:17.56 nor can a bad tree bear" what? 00:28:17.59\00:28:20.03 "Good fruit." 00:28:20.06\00:28:21.36 So let me ask you the question. Can a good tree bear bad fruit? 00:28:21.40\00:28:24.50 Can a bad tree bear good fruit? 00:28:24.53\00:28:26.84 Can a bad tree bear bad fruit? 00:28:26.87\00:28:28.67 Can a good tree bear bad fruit? 00:28:28.70\00:28:32.71 Can a good tree bear good fruit? 00:28:32.74\00:28:34.58 Can a bad tree bear good fruit? No. 00:28:34.61\00:28:36.54 Good, you guys are sharp. 00:28:36.58\00:28:39.15 Okay. 00:28:39.18\00:28:40.52 Bad does not produce good, good does not produce bad, 00:28:40.55\00:28:44.79 but bad produces bad and good produces good, 00:28:44.82\00:28:47.39 so the question is. 00:28:47.46\00:28:50.33 What do we want to be a part of the good or the bad? 00:28:50.36\00:28:54.30 But then how do you do that when Paul says, 00:28:54.30\00:28:57.17 "There is none that's good, no not one." 00:28:57.23\00:29:01.80 How... Okay, we're getting there. 00:29:01.84\00:29:04.14 My brother Yannick is ahead of me. 00:29:04.17\00:29:07.54 We're getting there. 00:29:07.61\00:29:09.34 The issue is bigger than the S-I-N-S, 00:29:09.38\00:29:13.08 the issue is the root, didn't I say that? 00:29:13.11\00:29:15.75 The issue is the what? The root. 00:29:15.78\00:29:17.52 What's happening with the tree? 00:29:17.55\00:29:18.89 When we go to the vineyards, when you go to Napa Valley, 00:29:18.92\00:29:20.72 when you look at apple trees, when you look at orange trees, 00:29:20.79\00:29:22.22 any kind of tree at all, 00:29:22.26\00:29:23.59 they're supposed to produce good fruit. 00:29:23.66\00:29:25.16 When the farmer looks at this tree and said, 00:29:25.19\00:29:27.46 it's not producing good fruit, they don't look at the limbs, 00:29:27.50\00:29:30.17 they look at the what? 00:29:30.20\00:29:31.80 They look at the fruit. 00:29:31.83\00:29:33.17 And then they go down to the root 00:29:33.20\00:29:34.54 and they say, "Ah, we see what the problem is. 00:29:34.57\00:29:36.54 There are ants eating at the roots 00:29:36.57\00:29:38.74 or there's some kind of germ that is being pulled 00:29:38.77\00:29:40.98 into the tree through the roots. 00:29:41.01\00:29:42.64 The root is the issue, 00:29:42.68\00:29:44.05 that's why this very next question 00:29:44.08\00:29:45.41 is vitally important. 00:29:45.45\00:29:46.78 So the answer is how do we know 00:29:46.82\00:29:48.15 that we are not capable of producing good? 00:29:48.18\00:29:51.32 Because we're connected to the wrong tree, 00:29:51.35\00:29:54.09 we're connected to the wrong tree. 00:29:54.16\00:29:56.12 What's the name of the tree, somebody tell me. 00:29:56.16\00:29:58.96 Sin? 00:29:58.99\00:30:00.33 But what's the... What's his name? 00:30:00.40\00:30:02.40 Adam, right. 00:30:02.43\00:30:04.40 Adam, the Adam nature produces the fruit of sin. 00:30:04.43\00:30:09.27 The Adam nature produces the fruit of sin. 00:30:09.30\00:30:11.74 Question number 12. 00:30:11.77\00:30:13.11 This is significant as you look at the cadence of it. 00:30:13.14\00:30:16.18 Question number 12. 00:30:16.21\00:30:18.95 What will the Lord destroy to finally abolish sin? 00:30:18.98\00:30:25.22 What will the Lord? 00:30:25.25\00:30:26.96 What will the Lord destroy to finally abolish sin? 00:30:27.02\00:30:32.33 Okay, that's right. 00:30:35.33\00:30:37.57 Malachi 4:1. 00:30:37.60\00:30:39.20 I forgot the name of the disease 00:30:46.37\00:30:47.98 but it affected cow, or mad cow disease. 00:30:48.01\00:30:50.68 Yeah, as soon as I mentioned cows, 00:30:50.71\00:30:52.45 I remember what it was. 00:30:52.48\00:30:53.85 Remember mad cow disease? 00:30:53.88\00:30:57.55 I read some of the stories of the farmers 00:30:57.59\00:30:59.25 that when they discover 00:30:59.29\00:31:01.06 that their cattle had mad cow disease, 00:31:01.09\00:31:03.32 mad cow disease affected not just the cattle, 00:31:03.36\00:31:05.69 but effected goats, it's affected other animals, 00:31:05.73\00:31:10.13 in the end it was terrible, and then you had the bird flu. 00:31:10.17\00:31:14.74 Which started in ages somewhere in a crowded market 00:31:14.77\00:31:19.24 where the keeping of the birds were just, 00:31:19.27\00:31:21.64 it was horrible 00:31:21.68\00:31:23.01 and then it spread all over the globe. 00:31:23.04\00:31:24.98 When these farmers noticed that their cows were affected, 00:31:25.01\00:31:28.92 I read the story of one farmer who he said, 00:31:28.95\00:31:31.62 "I didn't want to kill my animals, 00:31:31.65\00:31:35.22 but that was the only thing that I, I had to do it 00:31:35.26\00:31:38.83 to prevent the spread of the disease, 00:31:38.86\00:31:41.96 to prevent the spread of the disease." 00:31:42.00\00:31:44.57 So that's why Jesus had to die 00:31:44.60\00:31:47.57 to prevent the spread of the disease. 00:31:47.60\00:31:52.04 So why is he going to do what we're about to read. 00:31:52.07\00:31:54.64 How will the Lord finally... 00:31:54.68\00:31:57.01 What will the Lord do to finally abolish sin? 00:31:57.08\00:31:59.38 Look at Malachi 4:1 00:31:59.41\00:32:02.02 "For behold..." 00:32:02.05\00:32:03.39 And this is what the farmers did, 00:32:03.42\00:32:04.75 they set their cattle on fire, it was a horrible sight, 00:32:04.79\00:32:08.36 "For behold, the day is coming, burning like a" what? 00:32:08.39\00:32:11.56 "Like an oven," 00:32:11.59\00:32:12.93 and here's that word again and what? 00:32:12.96\00:32:15.13 "All the proud, yes, 00:32:15.16\00:32:17.43 all who do wickedly will be" what? 00:32:17.47\00:32:21.44 "Stubble and the day which is coming 00:32:21.47\00:32:24.21 shall burn them up." 00:32:24.27\00:32:27.04 Shall do what? 00:32:27.08\00:32:28.41 Burn them up and it says, let me go forward... 00:32:28.44\00:32:31.51 I want to add the other portion to that, 00:32:31.55\00:32:33.42 that will leave them neither root nor what? 00:32:33.48\00:32:36.69 I should have added the other portion to that, 00:32:36.75\00:32:39.29 so you want to add that, 00:32:39.32\00:32:40.66 what will Jesus do to finally abolish sin? 00:32:40.72\00:32:44.09 He's going to destroy the root and the branch. 00:32:44.13\00:32:48.03 He's going to destroy the root and branch. 00:32:48.06\00:32:52.43 So if, so, if the root is destroyed, 00:32:52.47\00:32:56.10 will there be branches? 00:32:56.14\00:32:58.51 Okay, so that's the answer to the question 00:32:58.54\00:33:00.21 sin cannot exist in eternity. 00:33:00.28\00:33:03.24 Sin will not exist in heaven. 00:33:03.28\00:33:05.08 There'll be no chance of sin in the new earth. 00:33:05.11\00:33:07.52 Can I get an amen somewhere? 00:33:07.55\00:33:08.88 Amen! 00:33:08.92\00:33:10.25 There'll be no chance 00:33:10.29\00:33:11.62 because the roots are going to be burned up. 00:33:11.65\00:33:12.99 When you burn up a tree and you stop at the root, 00:33:13.02\00:33:15.69 it's not going to produce anything 00:33:15.72\00:33:17.06 because the roots is the origin 00:33:17.13\00:33:19.59 of what's produced on the branches. 00:33:19.63\00:33:21.53 You cannot. 00:33:25.80\00:33:28.07 But now let's look at the reverse of that. 00:33:28.10\00:33:32.44 Question number 13. 00:33:32.47\00:33:33.84 Question number 13. 00:33:37.31\00:33:39.55 How will the Lord produce righteousness in us? 00:33:39.58\00:33:44.15 John 15, you theologians know where I'm headed. 00:33:44.19\00:33:48.86 John 15. 00:33:48.89\00:33:51.13 John 15. 00:33:51.16\00:33:55.20 And we're going to look together at verse 5, 00:33:55.23\00:33:59.90 John 15:5, 00:34:00.04\00:34:01.77 How will the Lord or even more specifically, 00:34:01.80\00:34:04.97 how does the Lord produce righteousness in us? 00:34:05.01\00:34:08.91 Here it is, John 15:5 and we read in His word, 00:34:08.94\00:34:13.31 "I am the vine, you are the branches. 00:34:13.35\00:34:18.45 He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears" what? 00:34:18.49\00:34:24.06 "Much fruit, for without Me you can't do" what? 00:34:24.13\00:34:26.63 "Nothing." 00:34:26.70\00:34:28.00 So can we say, 00:34:28.03\00:34:32.67 okay, okay, 00:34:32.70\00:34:34.04 I'm not going out, 00:34:37.17\00:34:39.44 I'm not leaving my house, 00:34:39.47\00:34:41.38 I'm not turning the lights on, 00:34:41.41\00:34:43.08 I'm not turning the radio on, 00:34:43.11\00:34:45.01 I'm not turning the television on, 00:34:45.05\00:34:46.98 I'm going to put in ear plugs. 00:34:47.02\00:34:50.25 I don't want my phone. I'm going to turn my phone off. 00:34:50.29\00:34:53.46 I don't want to hear from anybody. 00:34:53.52\00:34:55.26 I don't want to do anything. 00:34:55.29\00:34:56.99 I don't want to listen to anything. 00:34:57.03\00:34:59.23 And maybe I could be sinless today. 00:34:59.26\00:35:01.13 Right? 00:35:05.37\00:35:06.94 Oh, if I could just not hear anybody talk, 00:35:06.97\00:35:09.57 I think I could make it through a day without sin. 00:35:09.60\00:35:13.88 And the Lord says, "Excuse me, it's in you." 00:35:13.91\00:35:18.91 It's where? 00:35:18.95\00:35:20.72 It's not in the phone calls, 00:35:20.75\00:35:22.18 it's not in the television, it's in you. 00:35:22.22\00:35:26.25 Can you take it out of yourself? 00:35:26.29\00:35:29.02 So what do you have to... 00:35:29.06\00:35:30.43 If you look at these two verses together here, 00:35:30.46\00:35:32.33 this is the beauty of it, and I always say this, 00:35:32.36\00:35:34.30 there is no third category 00:35:34.30\00:35:35.86 when it comes to sin and righteousness. 00:35:35.90\00:35:37.87 There is no yellow line like on the highway. 00:35:37.90\00:35:40.30 There is no third place that you can be 00:35:40.34\00:35:42.37 to determine that I'll hang out here 00:35:42.40\00:35:44.27 until I decide to do right or wrong. 00:35:44.31\00:35:46.41 We're either on the left side of the highway, the bad side, 00:35:46.44\00:35:50.25 or the right side of the highway, the good side. 00:35:50.31\00:35:53.38 We're either connected to the wrong tree 00:35:53.42\00:35:55.75 that will be destroyed root and branch, 00:35:55.78\00:35:57.75 or we are connected to the vine, Christ Jesus. 00:35:57.79\00:35:59.85 And look at that again, 00:35:59.89\00:36:01.29 he says, for without me, how much can we do? 00:36:01.32\00:36:04.06 We can't do anything. 00:36:04.09\00:36:05.43 So what I want to point out really quickly here 00:36:05.46\00:36:07.83 is we have come to a particular point 00:36:07.86\00:36:10.40 and we're going to get a little deeper 00:36:10.47\00:36:11.80 in just a moment here, but we've come to the point, 00:36:11.83\00:36:13.17 we've come to this conclusion. 00:36:13.20\00:36:14.57 Sin is not possible to resolve by just trying hard. 00:36:14.60\00:36:21.44 So don't say to somebody, you need to try harder. 00:36:21.48\00:36:23.48 If you just try harder, you can do it. 00:36:23.55\00:36:26.38 That's the most frustrating thing, 00:36:26.41\00:36:27.85 and most world religions 00:36:27.88\00:36:29.22 that kick Jesus out are work oriented. 00:36:29.25\00:36:31.62 They beat themselves, they flog themselves, 00:36:31.65\00:36:34.46 they cut themselves, they do pilgrimages, 00:36:34.49\00:36:36.83 they walk around in circles... 00:36:36.86\00:36:40.53 They say things, they burn fire, 00:36:40.60\00:36:42.23 they run on coal, they run on broken glass, 00:36:42.26\00:36:45.27 they do ridiculous things. 00:36:45.30\00:36:47.50 Thinking that if I could just, 00:36:47.54\00:36:48.87 if I could just humiliate myself, 00:36:48.90\00:36:51.94 then maybe God will accept me. 00:36:51.97\00:36:54.74 But Christians do something that's kind of similar. 00:36:54.78\00:36:58.28 We beat ourselves up. 00:36:58.31\00:37:01.52 We focus on what we have done 00:37:01.55\00:37:03.12 rather than what Christ has done. 00:37:03.15\00:37:06.09 We pray and ask for the Lord to forgive us 00:37:06.12\00:37:07.86 and we get up and say... 00:37:07.89\00:37:09.22 And we still try to fix it, 00:37:12.09\00:37:14.56 when Jesus is the one 00:37:14.56\00:37:16.00 and the only one that can fix it. 00:37:16.03\00:37:18.43 And He's saying, 00:37:18.47\00:37:20.04 if you disconnect from that tree 00:37:20.07\00:37:22.00 and connect to this tree, it's going to happen. 00:37:22.04\00:37:25.61 It's going to happen. 00:37:25.64\00:37:26.98 What's going to happen? What's going to happen? 00:37:27.01\00:37:31.08 Say it again, 00:37:31.11\00:37:32.45 a little louder, a little louder. 00:37:32.48\00:37:35.62 David, you're a little louder than that. 00:37:35.65\00:37:37.85 Good fruit. What's up, what kind of fruit? 00:37:37.89\00:37:39.65 Good fruit. 00:37:39.69\00:37:41.02 So it's really what we're connected 00:37:41.06\00:37:42.39 to on a day by day basis, and Paul makes it clear 00:37:42.42\00:37:44.93 that this is not a once in a lifetime. 00:37:44.96\00:37:47.40 This decision is not just made when you're baptized. 00:37:47.40\00:37:50.63 This is a day by day decision, 00:37:50.67\00:37:52.70 a day by day, a moment by moment decision, 00:37:52.73\00:37:55.07 so let's look at that. 00:37:55.10\00:37:56.50 How will the Lord produce righteousness in us? 00:37:56.54\00:37:59.54 Without Him how much can we do? 00:37:59.57\00:38:01.74 Nothing. We can do... 00:38:01.78\00:38:03.11 We have to be in Him and He has to be in us. 00:38:03.14\00:38:07.05 That's what He does through His Holy Spirit, 00:38:07.08\00:38:09.22 but now, we're going to now go to some of the, 00:38:09.25\00:38:12.29 what I refer to the DNA. 00:38:12.32\00:38:13.89 We're going to go now to the DNA of sin. 00:38:13.92\00:38:16.06 Let's go down to the DNA of sin. 00:38:16.09\00:38:17.46 We're going to go to Romans, Romans 7. 00:38:17.49\00:38:21.56 Romans. 00:38:21.60\00:38:22.93 Romans 7. 00:38:26.17\00:38:28.54 And we're going to... 00:38:28.57\00:38:29.90 We're going to consider question number 14, 00:38:29.94\00:38:31.87 and question number 14 is: Why is human nature helpless 00:38:31.91\00:38:38.18 when it comes to controlling sin? 00:38:38.21\00:38:42.28 Why is human nature helpless 00:38:42.32\00:38:46.39 when it comes to controlling sin? 00:38:46.42\00:38:50.53 Romans 7, we're going to start with verse 8, 00:38:50.56\00:38:53.60 and then we're going to read verse 18, 00:38:53.63\00:38:56.10 and then we're going to read verse 20, all right? 00:38:56.13\00:39:01.44 I'll start with the verse 8. 00:39:01.47\00:39:02.87 Let's bring it up on the screen. 00:39:02.90\00:39:04.87 It says, 00:39:04.91\00:39:07.01 "But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, 00:39:07.04\00:39:12.51 produced in me all" what? 00:39:12.55\00:39:16.28 "All manner of evil desire." 00:39:16.32\00:39:19.29 In other words, there's no extent, 00:39:19.32\00:39:21.99 there's no telling what you'll do 00:39:22.02\00:39:23.89 because sin is producing all manner. 00:39:23.96\00:39:27.30 You name the category, sin could produce it. 00:39:27.36\00:39:29.93 All manner of not only evil but evil desire. 00:39:29.96\00:39:35.44 That passion, that push to do wrong, 00:39:35.47\00:39:38.07 and then it says, 00:39:38.11\00:39:39.44 for apart from the law what was dead. 00:39:39.47\00:39:42.91 What was dead? 00:39:42.94\00:39:44.28 It's on the screen, 00:39:44.31\00:39:45.65 apart from the law what was dead? 00:39:45.68\00:39:47.02 Sin was dead. 00:39:47.05\00:39:48.38 Let me explain that carefully because this is not something, 00:39:48.42\00:39:51.15 I don't want you to come away with the idea 00:39:51.19\00:39:52.55 that the commandments are bad, but here's what Paul is saying. 00:39:52.59\00:39:56.76 He was living a life 00:39:56.83\00:39:58.66 oblivious of the commandments of God 00:39:58.69\00:40:01.23 but all of a sudden he saw it and he realized, wait a minute. 00:40:01.26\00:40:06.57 Now, let me use an illustration. 00:40:06.60\00:40:11.31 Okay, rather than my human illustration, 00:40:11.34\00:40:13.88 don't lose Romans 7. 00:40:13.94\00:40:15.71 Let's go to James 1. 00:40:15.74\00:40:19.78 Don't lose Romans 7. 00:40:19.81\00:40:21.15 We're going to come back there, 00:40:21.18\00:40:22.52 and you could not, you could hold it off 00:40:22.55\00:40:24.15 and I'll call for the text in a moment. 00:40:24.19\00:40:25.75 But let's go to James 1. 00:40:25.79\00:40:28.46 Okay. 00:40:28.49\00:40:29.82 Okay. 00:40:32.59\00:40:33.96 And I want to look together at verse 25... 00:40:37.50\00:40:40.77 because Paul said until... 00:40:44.31\00:40:45.64 When I became aware of the commandments. 00:40:45.67\00:40:49.91 Through the commandments I realized 00:40:49.98\00:40:52.25 all kinds of evil desire were present in me. 00:40:52.28\00:40:55.82 Because the commandment showed me 00:40:55.85\00:40:57.22 what was going wrong, was inside of me. 00:40:57.25\00:40:59.25 It diagnosed my condition. 00:40:59.29\00:41:01.49 When I saw it, I realized where I was falling short, 00:41:01.52\00:41:04.86 he said, and without that I didn't even know. 00:41:04.89\00:41:07.76 Without that sin was not even, I was not even aware of sin 00:41:07.76\00:41:11.77 for apart from the law sin was dead, 00:41:11.80\00:41:14.34 until I knew that that was wrong, 00:41:14.37\00:41:16.34 it didn't even make a difference to me. 00:41:16.37\00:41:19.01 But look at Romans 1:25, 00:41:19.04\00:41:22.01 because it's all about the mirror, 00:41:22.04\00:41:23.41 it's all about the what? 00:41:23.45\00:41:25.71 How many of you have mirrors in your house? 00:41:25.75\00:41:27.85 Please all of you raise your hand. 00:41:27.88\00:41:30.35 I hope. 00:41:30.39\00:41:32.49 The mirror will tell you your condition 00:41:32.52\00:41:36.06 but the mirror can't change your condition. 00:41:36.09\00:41:40.36 It just says to you, you're in trouble, 00:41:40.40\00:41:42.46 you ear is out of place. 00:41:42.50\00:41:45.03 There's something in your tooth. 00:41:45.07\00:41:46.97 You buttoned the wrong button. 00:41:47.00\00:41:49.04 It just tells you what your condition is 00:41:49.07\00:41:50.67 but it can't do anything for you, 00:41:50.74\00:41:52.64 so those of you who are commandment keepers, 00:41:52.67\00:41:54.41 let me help you out, 00:41:54.44\00:41:55.78 it's good to be a commandment keeper, 00:41:55.81\00:41:57.95 but the commandments can't clean you up, 00:41:57.98\00:42:00.82 only Jesus can. 00:42:00.85\00:42:02.65 Look at this. 00:42:02.68\00:42:04.42 James makes it so clear. 00:42:04.45\00:42:05.79 James throws kind of a wrench 00:42:05.82\00:42:10.33 into the quandary of those 00:42:10.36\00:42:14.40 who want to get rid of the commandments. 00:42:14.46\00:42:15.76 Start with verse 22. 00:42:15.80\00:42:19.30 Okay. 00:42:19.33\00:42:20.70 "But be doers of the word 00:42:24.07\00:42:25.84 and not hearers only deceiving who? 00:42:25.87\00:42:30.01 Yourselves, 00:42:30.05\00:42:31.38 for if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, 00:42:31.41\00:42:36.22 he is like a man observing his natural face. 00:42:36.25\00:42:39.82 What kind of face? 00:42:39.85\00:42:41.19 Natural face in a mirror, 00:42:41.22\00:42:44.13 for he observes himself goes away 00:42:44.19\00:42:48.16 and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 00:42:48.20\00:42:51.90 How many of us do that? 00:42:55.40\00:42:56.74 Well, actually 00:42:59.71\00:43:03.28 no, I actually appreciate my mirror. 00:43:03.35\00:43:04.88 Come on help me out somebody. 00:43:04.91\00:43:06.51 I actually appreciate my mirror 00:43:06.55\00:43:08.45 because I can't go on television 00:43:08.48\00:43:11.62 with my jacket button like this. 00:43:11.65\00:43:14.79 They'll say, man, what kind of pastor is he? 00:43:14.82\00:43:17.03 His jacket is all messed up. 00:43:17.06\00:43:18.39 Can somebody help him? 00:43:18.43\00:43:20.63 I get all kinds of letters. 00:43:20.70\00:43:23.63 Am I telling the truth? 00:43:23.67\00:43:25.23 Because he'll say, oh, I can't look. 00:43:25.27\00:43:28.14 Those OCD people, am I right? 00:43:28.17\00:43:31.11 They have a hard time... 00:43:31.14\00:43:32.47 Oh, did anybody tell him 00:43:32.51\00:43:34.51 that he has a big ear out of place 00:43:34.54\00:43:37.31 and they'll say, "He had a mirror, 00:43:37.35\00:43:39.28 he couldn't see what was wrong?' 00:43:39.31\00:43:41.18 You see the mirror says to you what's wrong, 00:43:41.22\00:43:44.25 but look at the next verse. 00:43:44.29\00:43:48.32 Verse 25, 00:43:48.36\00:43:49.72 I like it that it begins with the word but, 00:43:49.76\00:43:51.76 "But he who looks into the..." 00:43:51.79\00:43:53.56 Say it together, "perfect law of liberty." 00:43:53.60\00:43:56.90 The commandments is observed by those 00:43:56.93\00:43:58.93 who have been made free. 00:43:58.97\00:44:00.57 The commandments don't make you free, 00:44:00.64\00:44:02.60 Jesus makes you free, 00:44:02.64\00:44:04.31 but the commandments are observed 00:44:04.34\00:44:05.87 by those who have been made free, 00:44:05.91\00:44:07.48 but he who looks into the what kind of law? 00:44:07.51\00:44:10.25 Perfect law of liberty and continues in it 00:44:10.28\00:44:14.02 and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, 00:44:14.05\00:44:18.72 this one will be what? 00:44:18.75\00:44:21.32 Blessed in what he does. 00:44:21.36\00:44:23.63 So when you see the law of God 00:44:23.66\00:44:25.83 and you'd remember that it pointed out your condition 00:44:25.86\00:44:28.40 and then you start as 1 John 3:4 says, 00:44:28.43\00:44:33.80 you begin to keep your life pure, 00:44:33.84\00:44:37.11 then you'll be blessed in what you do. 00:44:37.17\00:44:39.87 But if you look in the mirror and forget what the mirror said 00:44:39.91\00:44:42.91 and you walk away and just immediately forget, 00:44:42.94\00:44:45.45 people will notice it and they'll see you, 00:44:45.48\00:44:48.95 what's wrong with him? 00:44:48.98\00:44:50.89 What's wrong with her? 00:44:50.95\00:44:52.45 Can he see what he looks like? 00:44:52.49\00:44:54.22 Go back to Romans 7. 00:44:57.39\00:44:58.73 I want to clarify 00:44:58.76\00:45:00.16 that there's nothing wrong with God's law, 00:45:00.20\00:45:02.23 nothing at all wrong with God's laws. 00:45:02.26\00:45:05.47 It's the perfect law of liberty, 00:45:05.50\00:45:07.57 but we're going to go back to question number, which one? 00:45:07.64\00:45:10.44 Number 14. 00:45:10.51\00:45:12.07 Why is human nature helpless 00:45:12.11\00:45:13.48 when it comes to controlling sin? 00:45:13.51\00:45:15.84 Let's go to the very next verse, 00:45:15.88\00:45:17.48 verse 18, Romans 7:18. 00:45:17.55\00:45:20.95 Now we can bring it up on the screen. 00:45:20.98\00:45:22.32 Thank you. 00:45:22.35\00:45:23.69 And the Bible says, "For I know that in me, 00:45:23.72\00:45:26.96 for I know that in me, that is in my flesh," 00:45:26.99\00:45:30.03 together how much? 00:45:30.06\00:45:31.43 "Nothing good dwells, for to will is present with me, 00:45:31.46\00:45:37.70 but how to perform what is good" 00:45:37.73\00:45:40.40 say it again, "I do not find." 00:45:40.44\00:45:42.50 In other words, I know what I want to do. 00:45:42.54\00:45:44.91 It's like a basketball player being handcuffed. 00:45:44.94\00:45:47.44 You don't put a handcuffed basketball player 00:45:47.48\00:45:49.91 on the foul line with two seconds left. 00:45:49.94\00:45:53.98 I know what I want to do 00:45:54.02\00:45:55.92 but I'm handcuffed. 00:45:55.95\00:45:57.75 You put somebody on there that's been made free. 00:45:57.79\00:46:01.62 Paul is saying, 00:46:01.66\00:46:03.32 I've got this desire to do but I'm handcuffed. 00:46:03.36\00:46:07.50 Let's find out what happened? 00:46:07.56\00:46:09.63 Let's verse 20, verse 20, 00:46:09.66\00:46:12.37 verse 20 and the question is: 00:46:12.40\00:46:13.94 Why is human nature helpless 00:46:13.97\00:46:15.30 when it comes to controlling sin? 00:46:15.34\00:46:16.67 Look at verse 20, he says, 00:46:16.71\00:46:18.51 "Now if I do what I will not to do, 00:46:18.54\00:46:22.21 it is no longer I who do it," but what? 00:46:22.24\00:46:25.51 "Sin that, once again, dwells in me." 00:46:25.55\00:46:28.52 So let's go ahead and talk about this quandary 00:46:28.55\00:46:30.69 for a brief moment. 00:46:30.72\00:46:32.05 One of the reasons why, one of the reasons why 00:46:32.09\00:46:34.16 we come up as failures every time 00:46:34.19\00:46:36.39 is because we think that in and of ourselves 00:46:36.42\00:46:39.16 that we can be victorious by simply trying harder, 00:46:39.19\00:46:42.50 praying harder, reading harder, 00:46:42.53\00:46:45.87 just grit, and good old elbow grease. 00:46:45.90\00:46:51.27 But the Bible says, not of works, 00:46:51.31\00:46:53.94 lest anyone should boast. 00:46:53.98\00:46:56.48 For by grace are you saved through faith, 00:46:56.51\00:46:58.58 that not of yourselves, 00:46:58.61\00:47:00.15 but we're going to go even deeper than that. 00:47:00.18\00:47:02.38 How then... 00:47:02.42\00:47:05.29 do those who are unable to control sin, 00:47:05.32\00:47:08.02 how then do they come off victoriously? 00:47:08.06\00:47:12.46 So what answer did you put down? 00:47:12.49\00:47:13.83 Why is human nature helpless 00:47:13.86\00:47:15.16 when it comes to controlling sin? 00:47:15.20\00:47:16.53 Put down what you can best understand, 00:47:16.56\00:47:18.57 why is human nature helpless? 00:47:18.60\00:47:22.10 It's the same nature. 00:47:22.14\00:47:24.37 It's like when the Bible says, 00:47:24.41\00:47:25.74 can Beelzebub cast out Beelzebub? 00:47:25.77\00:47:28.91 Can Satan cast out Satan? 00:47:28.94\00:47:30.55 No. 00:47:30.58\00:47:31.91 How then can we 00:47:31.95\00:47:33.28 who are accustomed to doing evil do good. 00:47:33.31\00:47:35.92 Can't do it. Can't do it. 00:47:35.95\00:47:38.29 So don't feel bad that you fail. 00:47:38.32\00:47:41.66 Because you have that nature, 00:47:41.69\00:47:44.36 but we're not going to leave you there. 00:47:44.39\00:47:46.16 Let's look at the very next question, 00:47:46.19\00:47:47.50 question number 15. 00:47:47.60\00:47:49.16 Question number 15. 00:47:49.20\00:47:52.87 What is the only hope that we have to be victorious 00:47:52.90\00:47:58.77 over the sin nature? 00:47:58.81\00:48:02.01 And the reason I'm focusing on the nature 00:48:02.04\00:48:03.68 is because when you take care of the root, 00:48:03.71\00:48:05.21 the fruit is going to take care of themselves. 00:48:05.25\00:48:09.55 You guys are real deep thinkers tonight. 00:48:09.58\00:48:12.22 I must say that one more time 00:48:12.25\00:48:13.59 because you might have missed it. 00:48:13.62\00:48:14.99 When you take care of the root, 00:48:15.02\00:48:16.42 the fruit would take care of themselves. 00:48:16.46\00:48:18.39 Amen. Amen? 00:48:18.43\00:48:20.13 Have you ever seen a tree? 00:48:20.16\00:48:21.46 Have you ever walked past an orchard 00:48:21.50\00:48:22.83 and you see the tree going, 00:48:22.86\00:48:24.20 oh man, oh, 00:48:24.27\00:48:28.80 I need some really good oranges this season. 00:48:28.84\00:48:31.61 It's just standing there like... 00:48:31.64\00:48:33.27 Let 'cause he's connected, he's being nourished, 00:48:39.21\00:48:44.12 he's getting the proper sunlight, 00:48:44.19\00:48:45.79 he's getting the clean air, 00:48:45.82\00:48:47.46 he's getting all the nutrition he needs, 00:48:47.49\00:48:49.79 and that's why the Bible says, "Let, let." 00:48:49.82\00:48:53.60 And we'll show you what I mean by that let. 00:48:53.63\00:48:55.86 We're going to go ahead and look at let in the... 00:48:55.90\00:48:58.10 We might get to today, 00:48:58.13\00:48:59.60 but there's a let and there's a let not. 00:48:59.63\00:49:02.74 We're going to let and let not, all right. 00:49:02.77\00:49:05.41 But let's look at this one first, 00:49:05.44\00:49:06.81 1 Corinthians 15:57. 00:49:06.84\00:49:09.04 This is beautiful. 00:49:09.08\00:49:10.81 This is a Jesus centered lesson. 00:49:10.88\00:49:15.12 Yannick, say amen. 00:49:15.15\00:49:16.48 Amen. Okay. 00:49:16.52\00:49:18.39 This is a Jesus centered lesson. 00:49:18.42\00:49:20.59 This means, without Jesus, we can't do anything. 00:49:20.62\00:49:23.79 And I wanted to read this one 00:49:26.83\00:49:28.16 because when somebody does for us 00:49:28.20\00:49:30.27 what Jesus has done for us, you got to say thank you. 00:49:30.30\00:49:32.37 Are you ready? 00:49:32.40\00:49:33.74 Here we go together, "But thanks be to God, 00:49:33.77\00:49:37.51 who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 00:49:37.54\00:49:43.95 Do you see now why the devil tried his best 00:49:43.98\00:49:45.95 to defeat Christ? 00:49:45.98\00:49:47.65 And I say this again, Jesus didn't become a sinner, 00:49:47.68\00:49:51.49 Jesus didn't become sins, Jesus became sin. 00:49:51.52\00:49:56.32 He took on the, 00:49:56.36\00:49:57.69 He took on the Adam nature after the fall. 00:49:57.73\00:50:00.83 The nature Adam had after he fell. 00:50:00.90\00:50:03.33 Jesus didn't come to take on the nature 00:50:03.37\00:50:06.43 Adam had before the fall, 00:50:06.47\00:50:08.04 He came and took the nature Adam had after the fall. 00:50:08.07\00:50:11.81 So that He could produce, He could defeat that, 00:50:11.84\00:50:14.61 kill that nature when He died on the cross, 00:50:14.64\00:50:18.48 this is really a deep thing. 00:50:18.51\00:50:19.85 When He died on the cross, 00:50:19.88\00:50:22.42 it was the nature of Adam that was killed. 00:50:22.45\00:50:26.86 And so when you accept Christ in that way, 00:50:26.92\00:50:28.89 let me look at, let me see if the text is here. 00:50:28.92\00:50:30.89 It's not here but I want to go ahead and show it to you. 00:50:30.93\00:50:33.19 Go with me to Galatians. 00:50:33.23\00:50:34.76 Go with me to Galatians. 00:50:34.83\00:50:36.13 So write this down. 00:50:36.16\00:50:37.50 What is our only hope 00:50:37.53\00:50:38.87 that we can have victory over sin? 00:50:38.90\00:50:40.97 Jesus. 00:50:41.00\00:50:42.34 And by the way I want you to not miss 00:50:42.37\00:50:43.87 the rest of the text 00:50:43.94\00:50:45.27 because we say Jesus, but notice what the text says, 00:50:45.31\00:50:48.24 it didn't, it didn't say, 00:50:48.28\00:50:49.61 but thanks be to God who helps us when... 00:50:49.64\00:50:53.95 Did it say that? 00:50:53.98\00:50:55.38 It didn't say that, but thanks be to God who what? 00:50:55.42\00:50:58.19 Gives. 00:50:58.22\00:51:01.06 Lorraine, how would you feel if the Olympic Committee 00:51:01.09\00:51:03.83 decided to give you a gold medal? 00:51:03.86\00:51:07.60 You might say, "For what?" 00:51:07.66\00:51:10.23 And they say, "It doesn't matter, 00:51:10.27\00:51:11.60 we want you to be victorious." 00:51:11.63\00:51:13.30 It doesn't matter, we just want to give you. 00:51:13.34\00:51:15.14 We want to make you a winner. 00:51:15.17\00:51:17.81 We just wanted to say, "You won" 00:51:17.84\00:51:19.44 and you say "Won what?" 00:51:19.47\00:51:21.71 Now Jesus, this is where the crown comes in. 00:51:21.74\00:51:25.15 This is what's amazing about salvation. 00:51:25.18\00:51:27.48 Jesus gives us a crown of which we did nothing to get. 00:51:27.52\00:51:31.32 Is that, is that love? 00:51:34.59\00:51:36.89 He gives us a crown 00:51:36.93\00:51:38.26 and we didn't do anything to get it. 00:51:38.29\00:51:40.66 He gives us the victory. 00:51:40.70\00:51:42.23 What happens when a person gives you a gift?
