with that story tonight.

And we're gonna look at a story
that is in somewhat of a...

is a story that
you sometimes wonder

if the church
operated the way today

that it did then,

as it would be as I said

a lot of heart
attacks in holy places
00:06:55.54\00:06:57.95
because this story in the Bible
00:06:57.98\00:06:59.91
is one that really
brings out a peculiar incident.

If you come to
church on any given weekend
00:07:04.09\00:07:07.19
or Sabbath morning
00:07:07.22\00:07:08.79
and this incident
happened in church,
00:07:08.82\00:07:10.46
I think there will
be a ton of conversions.

But let's look at
this really amazing story.

Now it's in Acts 5
which if you look at,
00:07:18.23\00:07:22.37
if you look at the
progression of the Book of Acts,
00:07:22.40\00:07:25.17
it starts with the
outpouring of the Holy Spirit
00:07:25.21\00:07:29.11
on the day of Pentecost.
00:07:29.14\00:07:30.48
We're gonna talk about that too
00:07:30.51\00:07:31.85
because there's a
big misinterpretation
00:07:31.88\00:07:33.72
about what that
outpouring meant.
00:07:33.75\00:07:35.75
And people use
that phrase today,
00:07:35.78\00:07:39.69
the outpouring
of the Spirit of God

is the evidence of
that, some people say,
00:07:42.76\00:07:46.33
is the ability
to speak in tongues.

We're gonna
talk about that also.

But as the
church is being formed

you discover, for
example in Acts 1,

the outpouring
of the Holy Spirit,

the people praying for
the outpouring of the Spirit.

the Spirit is
poured out on those

that were waiting at Jerusalem.

Acts 3,

the power of the Holy
Spirit is demonstrated

when the apostles
go forward healing

and performing miracles

in and through that power.

And then you find
Peter's second sermon

in which the question is asked,

the power is so
powerfully demonstrated,

the Holy Spirit is so
powerfully demonstrated.

Look at Acts 3
and look at verse 19.

I mean, there's so many
things that were taking place

through the
manifestation of that Spirit

that the people were
moved, their hearts were moved.

And look at verse 19.

Peter proclaimed,

and what's amazing is

Peter as a
representative of the disciples,

now no longer impetuous Peter,
00:08:54.73\00:08:57.00
no longer is his mind
00:08:57.03\00:08:58.37
and his mouth
in a different gear
00:08:58.40\00:09:00.17
but God has finally synchronized
00:09:00.20\00:09:01.94
his thoughts with
his heart and his mouth,

and now he becomes the spokesman
00:09:04.77\00:09:06.17
on the day of Pentecost.

And look what he
said in verse 19, he said,

speaking about the importance

of being prepared
for the outpouring,

he said, "Repent
therefore and be," what?

Converted.

"Converted that your
sins may be blotted out

so the times of refreshing

may come from the
presence of the Lord."

And the presence
that he's referring to

there is not just
when the Lord comes

but the presence of
God that was manifested

through the
outpouring of the Spirit.

He says, "This is
a time of refreshing,

this is a time of renewal,
this is a new beginning.

But you have to
repent and be converted

that your sins

Then in Acts 4,

we find the backlash

for this demonstration
of this great power.

Those who resist
the power of the Spirit

are so determined to stop
Peter and the other apostles

that Peter is put into custody.

Peter is imprisoned

and the persecution
on the New Testament

church begins.

Now, let me lay some
more foundation here.

The New Testament church,

they had a hard time
with accepting Jesus.

Because remember,

these are the
same Jewish leaders

that had rejected Jesus

not long before
had crucified Him.

And so the apostles now

under the restrictions

that were laid down
by the Jewish leaders,

they said, "Do
not preach Jesus."

But as they are
being put in custody,

what possible method

is being used to
make this happen.

And so he's going
on, and then he goes down

matter of fact, verse 10.

"Let it be known to you all
and to all the people of Israel

that by the name of
Jesus Christ of Nazareth..."

Look at this,
"Whom you crucified,

whom God raised from the dead,

by Him this man stands
here before you whole."

"This is the stone

rejected by you builders."

Now we often read later
on the builders rejected

So the church is
growing tremendously

establish the church,

people began to participate

in the support
of the church now,

but there were some that did not

honestly represent what
God had blessed them with.

bottom of the story.

And two people by the
name of Ananias and Sapphira,

husband and wife decided to lie

about the way that
God had blessed them.

the one that they lied to.
