00:02:06.92\00:02:09.16 Number 32, the truth about the first day. 00:02:09.19\00:02:13.09 Lesson number 32. 00:02:13.13\00:02:15.06 This is a very exciting lesson 00:02:15.10\00:02:17.63 and on that very same website you'll see links to Facebook 00:02:17.67\00:02:21.14 as well as I believe to Twitter 00:02:21.17\00:02:24.71 where you can upload questions if you have any 00:02:24.74\00:02:26.68 about the topics that are being covered. 00:02:26.71\00:02:28.81 But we're continuing tonight 00:02:28.84\00:02:30.18 from lesson number 32, question number 10. 00:02:30.21\00:02:32.61 But before we do that we always sing our theme song 00:02:32.65\00:02:35.48 and the title of our theme song, 00:02:35.52\00:02:36.95 can we sing that together is victory in... 00:02:36.99\00:02:39.85 Victory in Jesus. 00:02:39.89\00:02:41.22 Let's sing our theme song together. 00:02:41.26\00:02:42.59 I heard an old, old story 00:02:50.73\00:02:54.47 How the Savior came from glory 00:02:54.50\00:02:58.24 How He gave His life on Calvary 00:02:58.27\00:03:02.04 To save a wretch like me 00:03:02.08\00:03:05.88 I heard about His groaning 00:03:05.91\00:03:09.58 Of His precious blood's atoning 00:03:09.62\00:03:13.46 Then I repented of my sins 00:03:13.49\00:03:17.13 And won the victory 00:03:17.16\00:03:20.86 Oh, victory in Jesus 00:03:20.90\00:03:24.70 My Savior, forever 00:03:24.73\00:03:28.47 He sought me and bought me 00:03:28.50\00:03:32.27 With His redeeming blood 00:03:32.31\00:03:36.04 He loved me 'ere I knew Him 00:03:36.08\00:03:39.81 And all my love is due Him 00:03:39.85\00:03:43.62 He plunged me to victory 00:03:43.65\00:03:47.42 Beneath the cleansing flood 00:03:47.46\00:03:51.09 I heard about a mansion 00:03:51.13\00:03:54.90 He has built for me in glory 00:03:54.93\00:03:58.63 And I heard about the streets of gold 00:03:58.67\00:04:02.47 Beyond the crystal sea 00:04:02.50\00:04:06.17 About the angels singing 00:04:06.21\00:04:10.08 And the old redemption story 00:04:10.11\00:04:13.82 And some sweet day, I'll sing up there 00:04:13.85\00:04:17.65 The song of victory 00:04:17.69\00:04:20.26 Key change. 00:04:20.29\00:04:21.62 Oh, victory in Jesus 00:04:21.66\00:04:25.13 My Savior, forever 00:04:25.16\00:04:28.93 He sought me and bought me 00:04:28.96\00:04:32.70 With His redeeming blood 00:04:32.73\00:04:36.50 He loved me 'ere I knew Him 00:04:36.54\00:04:40.28 And all my love is due Him 00:04:40.31\00:04:44.05 He plunged me to victory 00:04:44.08\00:04:47.78 Beneath the cleansing flood 00:04:47.82\00:04:51.65 He plunged me to victory 00:04:51.69\00:04:55.39 Beneath the cleansing flood 00:04:55.42\00:05:01.83 Amen. 00:05:01.86\00:05:03.47 Wonderful song. 00:05:03.50\00:05:04.83 Plunged us to victory beneath 00:05:04.87\00:05:07.54 the cleansing flood which is the blood of Jesus. 00:05:07.57\00:05:12.21 So good to see those of you are here. 00:05:12.24\00:05:13.81 Some of you are vacationing, 00:05:13.84\00:05:15.71 some of you are coming back to town. 00:05:15.74\00:05:18.55 And we thank you for those who are tuning in, 00:05:18.58\00:05:21.38 whether from the Caribbean, 00:05:21.42\00:05:23.02 from Amman, Jordan, from China, from Australia 00:05:23.05\00:05:25.95 and all the other places around the world 00:05:25.99\00:05:28.16 from my family there in the Virgin Islands, 00:05:28.19\00:05:30.99 appreciate you tuning in tonight. 00:05:31.03\00:05:32.66 This topic is very exciting and very timely. 00:05:32.69\00:05:36.46 Now let me lay the foundation like I did last week. 00:05:36.50\00:05:38.83 And by the way, 00:05:38.87\00:05:40.20 the title of our message tonight, 00:05:40.24\00:05:41.67 let's say this together, the truth about the... 00:05:41.70\00:05:44.14 The truth about the first day. The truth about the first day. 00:05:44.17\00:05:49.54 Now we're going to begin on question 10, 00:05:49.58\00:05:51.15 but I want to lay some foundation tonight 00:05:51.18\00:05:52.75 because the first day of the week 00:05:52.78\00:05:56.18 is solely based on tradition. 00:05:56.22\00:05:59.09 What word did I just use? 00:05:59.12\00:06:00.82 Tradition. 00:06:00.86\00:06:02.96 Many Christians are not upset about the first day of the week 00:06:02.99\00:06:05.73 because this change, Louise, 00:06:05.76\00:06:07.43 took place almost 2000 years ago. 00:06:07.46\00:06:10.50 But what's amazing about that is 00:06:10.53\00:06:12.30 there has been a change recently made in America 00:06:12.33\00:06:15.70 that is based on the tradition, 00:06:15.74\00:06:18.84 tradition of men, not the Word of God. 00:06:18.87\00:06:21.58 Recently the Supreme Court made the decision 00:06:21.61\00:06:23.85 to support same sex marriage. 00:06:23.88\00:06:25.51 Now one of the reasons 00:06:25.55\00:06:26.88 why Christians are so upset about that is, 00:06:26.92\00:06:29.58 they know that almost 6000 years ago, 00:06:29.62\00:06:34.59 so marriage is not too old to 00:06:34.62\00:06:36.09 still referred to it as valid today, can we say amen? 00:06:36.12\00:06:38.46 Amen. 00:06:38.49\00:06:39.83 Although done at the very end of creation week, 00:06:39.86\00:06:43.20 it's still valid today. 00:06:43.23\00:06:45.53 Christians don't say, 00:06:45.57\00:06:46.90 "Well, that was 6000 years ago we should change." 00:06:46.94\00:06:50.11 They say, "God did that at the beginning of creation week, 00:06:50.14\00:06:53.34 He gave Adam to Eve, Eve to Adam 00:06:53.38\00:06:56.44 and it's still valid today." 00:06:56.48\00:06:58.91 They find no reason to change 00:06:58.95\00:07:00.48 what the Lord did during creation, 00:07:00.52\00:07:03.18 but there's something else He did during creation, 00:07:03.22\00:07:05.19 He not only sanctified the marriage, 00:07:05.22\00:07:08.26 He sanctified the seventh day of the week, the Sabbath. 00:07:08.29\00:07:12.53 But that change being made 2000 years ago, 00:07:12.56\00:07:16.46 people today that honor it say, 00:07:16.50\00:07:18.50 "Hey, it's scriptural, it's not scriptural." 00:07:18.53\00:07:22.77 We have covered thus far 00:07:22.80\00:07:25.71 about nine texts out of the 12 verses 00:07:25.74\00:07:29.11 in the New Testament that cover the first day of the week. 00:07:29.14\00:07:32.11 So if we're going to find Bible support 00:07:32.15\00:07:34.75 for the first day of the week, 00:07:34.78\00:07:37.32 we have to find it in the New Testament. 00:07:37.35\00:07:39.95 You cannot find it in the Old Testament. 00:07:39.99\00:07:42.22 Many people say they are New Testament Christians 00:07:42.26\00:07:44.06 because they say, 00:07:44.09\00:07:45.43 in saying that we keep the new day of worship. 00:07:45.46\00:07:48.36 But now let me go ahead and expand this picture. 00:07:48.40\00:07:51.33 In about 300 years from now, 00:07:51.37\00:07:53.54 if the world were to last that long, 00:07:53.57\00:07:55.37 same sex marriage would be a tradition. 00:07:55.40\00:07:59.17 And in that society they'll say, 00:07:59.21\00:08:00.64 "Well, we've been doing this for 300 years, 00:08:00.68\00:08:02.81 it must have some support somewhere in Scripture." 00:08:02.84\00:08:05.35 But people know that anything that's not based on the Bible 00:08:05.38\00:08:09.02 is purely tradition and not scriptural. 00:08:09.05\00:08:11.49 So here's my point. 00:08:11.52\00:08:13.59 If Christians are upset about 00:08:13.62\00:08:15.82 the traditions of men over the Word of God 00:08:15.86\00:08:19.83 in the same sex marriage institution, 00:08:19.86\00:08:22.53 they ought to be just as upset 00:08:22.56\00:08:24.80 about the traditions of men over the Sabbath of the Lord. 00:08:24.83\00:08:27.77 Can I get an amen? Amen. 00:08:27.80\00:08:29.80 You cannot change anything that God has blessed, 00:08:29.84\00:08:32.54 no matter how far back it goes. 00:08:32.57\00:08:34.71 If the Lord never changes Sabbath, 00:08:34.74\00:08:36.75 man has no authority to do it. 00:08:36.78\00:08:38.78 Since the Lord never changed marriage, 00:08:38.81\00:08:40.72 Christians today know that man has no authority to do it. 00:08:40.75\00:08:44.89 Some leaders have said, 00:08:44.92\00:08:47.82 "They may be the Supreme Court 00:08:47.86\00:08:49.36 but they are not the Supreme Being." 00:08:49.39\00:08:51.79 We do it not because men say it, 00:08:51.83\00:08:53.66 but because God's Word says it. 00:08:53.70\00:08:55.83 And so for Christians that had been taught 00:08:55.86\00:09:00.00 that the Bible supports the first day of the week. 00:09:00.04\00:09:03.20 We want to find that if we could support their statement. 00:09:03.24\00:09:05.81 And we're going to look through 00:09:05.84\00:09:07.18 every text in the New Testament, 00:09:07.21\00:09:08.54 so far we've covered nine of them. 00:09:08.58\00:09:10.98 We only have three remaining. 00:09:11.01\00:09:12.71 And so far we've discovered that 00:09:12.75\00:09:14.38 most of the New Testament verses 00:09:14.42\00:09:16.38 support the theme about the resurrection of Jesus, 00:09:16.42\00:09:19.85 being raised on the first day of the week. 00:09:19.89\00:09:22.76 So far we have found no support in the Bible at all 00:09:22.79\00:09:26.09 for a new day of worship. 00:09:26.13\00:09:28.23 We have only found support for those things 00:09:28.26\00:09:32.20 that are already mentioned in Scripture, 00:09:32.23\00:09:34.14 the Bible Sabbath, 00:09:34.17\00:09:36.27 marriage between a man and a woman, 00:09:36.30\00:09:38.31 not traditional, but scriptural, but biblical. 00:09:38.34\00:09:42.38 We ought not do it because it's traditional. 00:09:42.41\00:09:44.55 We do it because it's biblical. 00:09:44.58\00:09:47.28 It's based on the Bible. 00:09:47.32\00:09:48.65 So now what we're going to do tonight, 00:09:48.68\00:09:50.25 we discovered that we went and by the way, 00:09:50.29\00:09:52.79 in that very lesson that you downloaded, 00:09:52.82\00:09:55.09 there should be 27 questions. 00:09:55.12\00:09:57.69 We're going to begin tonight on question number 10 00:09:57.73\00:09:59.79 because this is one of the verses 00:09:59.83\00:10:04.67 Acts 20:7. 00:10:04.70\00:10:06.03 Let's go to Acts 20:7 first 00:10:06.07\00:10:08.17 and then we're going to go to the question. 00:10:08.20\00:10:09.90 Let's go to Acts 20:7 00:10:09.94\00:10:11.84 because I recently read, 00:10:11.87\00:10:13.88 and by the way I'm working on a book, 00:10:13.91\00:10:16.78 but those of you that are watching the program 00:10:16.81\00:10:18.38 or listening, keep your ears open. 00:10:18.41\00:10:20.35 The book is almost done, it's called Sunday Mask, 00:10:20.38\00:10:23.02 it's following the last three pontiffs or popes of Rome 00:10:23.05\00:10:27.86 in their push for the exaltation 00:10:27.89\00:10:30.39 of the first day of the week. 00:10:30.43\00:10:32.16 This recent pope or Pope Francis 00:10:32.19\00:10:34.96 is calling for Sunday to be observed. 00:10:35.00\00:10:38.30 And he's referring to this very text 00:10:38.33\00:10:40.90 as biblical authority why Sunday should be observed. 00:10:40.94\00:10:44.57 Let's go ahead and read the text 00:10:44.61\00:10:45.94 and see if this gives any support, 00:10:45.97\00:10:47.58 any biblical authority for the first day of the week. 00:10:47.61\00:10:50.51 Acts 20:7. 00:10:50.55\00:10:52.38 Here we go. 00:10:52.41\00:10:53.75 And I have, matter of fact, 00:10:53.78\00:10:55.12 I have the article open here on my iPad 00:10:55.15\00:10:56.99 about the very reference that Pope Francis made, 00:10:57.02\00:10:59.69 he said, "Because the disciples did this, 00:10:59.72\00:11:02.12 we now have authority to honor the first day of the week 00:11:02.16\00:11:04.99 as a new day of worship." 00:11:05.03\00:11:06.36 Let's read the text. 00:11:06.39\00:11:07.73 Acts 20:7. 00:11:07.76\00:11:09.10 This is not going to be on the screen, 00:11:09.13\00:11:10.47 but let's go and read it. 00:11:10.50\00:11:11.83 But what I'd like to read is, 00:11:11.87\00:11:13.70 let's go to verse 7 at Acts 20. 00:11:13.74\00:11:16.91 It says, "Now on the..." What day of the week? 00:11:16.94\00:11:19.77 "First day of the week, 00:11:19.81\00:11:21.74 when the disciples came together to..." 00:11:21.78\00:11:23.51 Do what? 00:11:23.55\00:11:24.88 "Break bread, 00:11:24.91\00:11:27.12 Paul, ready to depart the next day, 00:11:27.15\00:11:31.22 spoke to them and continued his message until midnight." 00:11:31.25\00:11:36.52 They say, "Oh, they got together 00:11:36.56\00:11:38.19 and they broke bread on the first day of the week." 00:11:38.23\00:11:42.66 So therefore, what the suggestion is, 00:11:42.70\00:11:45.00 is the breaking of bread, 00:11:45.03\00:11:46.53 having been done on the first day of the week 00:11:46.57\00:11:48.20 must now be scriptural authority 00:11:48.24\00:11:50.54 for a new day of worship. 00:11:50.57\00:11:52.14 What I'd like to point out is you find no reference there 00:11:52.17\00:11:54.34 to a new day of worship at all, 00:11:54.38\00:11:56.64 the day that's actually being referred to 00:11:56.68\00:11:58.61 is in the verse right before that, 00:11:58.65\00:12:00.15 The Feast of Unleavened Bread. 00:12:00.18\00:12:02.88 That's what's being referred to. 00:12:02.92\00:12:04.35 Look at the verse right before that, 00:12:04.39\00:12:06.35 verse 6. 00:12:06.39\00:12:07.72 "But we sailed away from Philippi 00:12:07.76\00:12:12.23 after the Day of Unleavened Bread, 00:12:12.26\00:12:14.70 and in five days joined them at Troas, 00:12:14.73\00:12:17.77 where we stayed seven days." 00:12:17.80\00:12:20.60 Now it goes to the verse 7 on the first day of the week. 00:12:20.64\00:12:24.31 So Paul continuing his journey 00:12:24.34\00:12:26.84 throughout many of the cities in Asia Minor 00:12:26.88\00:12:29.48 was simply gathering together to have a farewell meeting 00:12:29.51\00:12:33.21 that simply all that happened, it was a farewell meeting, 00:12:33.25\00:12:36.28 but somebody may say, 00:12:36.32\00:12:37.85 "Well, it was the first day of the week." 00:12:37.89\00:12:39.82 And he continues speaking until midnight. 00:12:39.85\00:12:42.76 Well, now this is powerful. 00:12:42.79\00:12:44.83 This is huge. 00:12:44.86\00:12:46.19 I want you to put your ears on, 00:12:46.23\00:12:47.56 I got mine on, can you see them? 00:12:47.60\00:12:49.90 This is huge. 00:12:49.93\00:12:51.27 Many people don't understand 00:12:51.30\00:12:52.63 when the first day of the week begins. 00:12:52.67\00:12:55.20 When you read Genesis 00:12:55.24\00:12:56.57 you'll find in Genesis over and over every day, 00:12:56.60\00:12:59.91 the evening and the morning were the what? 00:12:59.94\00:13:03.18 First day. 00:13:03.21\00:13:05.28 So the evening begins the day, 00:13:05.31\00:13:08.85 when you get to 12 o'clock at night. 00:13:08.88\00:13:11.49 What is it called? Somebody tell me. 00:13:11.52\00:13:12.99 Midnight. Midnight. 00:13:13.02\00:13:15.26 It's called midnight. 00:13:15.29\00:13:16.62 When we hit 12 noon, it's called what? 00:13:16.66\00:13:18.23 Midday. 00:13:18.26\00:13:19.59 Why is it called midday? 00:13:19.63\00:13:20.96 Because the day begins at? The sunset... 00:13:21.00\00:13:24.90 The day begins at sunset. 00:13:24.93\00:13:27.94 Thank you very much. The day begins at sunset. 00:13:27.97\00:13:31.51 It does not begin at sunrise, 00:13:31.54\00:13:35.64 the day doesn't begin at midnight 00:13:35.68\00:13:37.71 because at 12 o'clock 00:13:37.75\00:13:39.68 that is 12 o'clock at night is the middle of the night 00:13:39.71\00:13:44.35 which means something happened. 00:13:44.39\00:13:45.92 So let's use this scriptural terms 00:13:45.95\00:13:48.12 sunset is the terms the Bible use. 00:13:48.16\00:13:52.33 Sunset. 00:13:52.36\00:13:53.70 So when the sun sets the day is over, 00:13:53.73\00:13:57.70 from evening to evening. 00:13:57.73\00:13:59.07 Now following that very thought 00:13:59.10\00:14:00.44 when the sun sets tonight wherever you are, 00:14:00.47\00:14:03.17 whatever day it is 00:14:03.20\00:14:04.54 and right now it's Wednesday for us, 00:14:04.57\00:14:06.64 when the sun sets tonight, what starts? 00:14:06.68\00:14:09.41 This is powerful. 00:14:09.44\00:14:11.18 Thursday night starts. 00:14:11.21\00:14:13.65 Then Thursday. Okay. 00:14:13.68\00:14:17.22 But now once you get, if Thursday starts, 00:14:17.25\00:14:20.42 if Thursday starts tonight at when sun sets 00:14:20.46\00:14:24.16 and I preach until midnight. 00:14:24.19\00:14:27.70 What day am I on? 00:14:27.73\00:14:29.06 On Thursday night. 00:14:29.10\00:14:32.03 Thursday midnight. 00:14:32.07\00:14:34.50 In the modern vernacular of timing today 00:14:34.54\00:14:37.67 they'll call tomorrow night at 12 o'clock midnight, 00:14:37.71\00:14:41.84 Thursday night. 00:14:41.88\00:14:43.21 When in fact Friday's already started. 00:14:43.24\00:14:45.88 Follow that carefully. 00:14:45.91\00:14:47.25 So one of the reasons why men are so confused today 00:14:47.28\00:14:50.09 about the order of the days, 00:14:50.12\00:14:51.45 you got to follow the scriptures, 00:14:51.49\00:14:52.82 if you are Bible believing Christians, 00:14:52.85\00:14:54.26 you got to let the Bible be your final authority. 00:14:54.29\00:14:56.32 Ain't that right? 00:14:56.36\00:14:57.69 So Paul simply preached 00:14:57.73\00:14:59.26 until the late part of Saturday night, 00:14:59.29\00:15:03.57 that's what they call it today. 00:15:03.60\00:15:05.53 Today, we call it Saturday night, 00:15:05.57\00:15:07.37 there they call it midnight Sunday, 00:15:07.40\00:15:10.84 the first day of the week 00:15:10.87\00:15:12.21 'cause the first day of the week began 00:15:12.24\00:15:14.48 when the Sabbath ended. 00:15:14.51\00:15:17.25 And the Sabbath ended, 00:15:17.28\00:15:18.98 Saturday evening when the sunset. 00:15:19.01\00:15:22.28 That's what that was. 00:15:22.32\00:15:23.65 But somebody may say, 00:15:23.69\00:15:25.02 "But, Pastor, they broke bread on the first day of the week." 00:15:25.05\00:15:28.22 Well, now let's see if there's any authority in the Bible 00:15:28.26\00:15:31.26 to make the first day of the week 00:15:31.29\00:15:33.53 a new day of worship because they broke bread. 00:15:33.56\00:15:35.36 Now let's go to our first question tonight 00:15:35.40\00:15:36.80 that will appear on the screen, question number 10. 00:15:36.83\00:15:39.00 Here it is. 00:15:39.03\00:15:40.74 Did the breaking of bread happen 00:15:40.77\00:15:42.47 only on the first day of the week? 00:15:42.50\00:15:45.77 Did the breaking of bread happen 00:15:45.81\00:15:47.44 on the first day of the week? 00:15:47.48\00:15:48.81 Let's go to Acts 2:46. 00:15:48.84\00:15:51.21 Acts 2:46. 00:15:51.25\00:15:53.08 I wish I had two hours tonight. 00:15:53.11\00:15:54.62 I honestly do 00:15:54.65\00:15:56.02 because we have an event coming up next week 00:15:56.05\00:15:57.62 that's going to present our, next one's in Idaho 00:15:57.65\00:15:59.55 and we're going to have to begin the week after that. 00:15:59.59\00:16:01.66 I like to serve food while it's hot. 00:16:01.69\00:16:04.73 Okay. Acts 2:46, 47. 00:16:04.76\00:16:08.43 Let's go and look at that. 00:16:08.46\00:16:09.80 And let's look at this breaking of bread to see 00:16:09.83\00:16:12.27 if this only happened on the first day of the week. 00:16:12.30\00:16:14.84 Here we are. 00:16:14.87\00:16:17.24 Acts 2:46, and Bible reads, 00:16:17.27\00:16:20.91 "So continuing..." 00:16:20.94\00:16:22.48 How frequently? Daily. 00:16:22.51\00:16:23.98 "Daily with one accord in the temple..." 00:16:24.01\00:16:26.18 And what else? 00:16:26.21\00:16:27.55 "Breaking bread from..." What? 00:16:27.58\00:16:29.52 "House to house, they ate their food with..." 00:16:29.55\00:16:33.36 What? 00:16:33.39\00:16:34.72 "Gladness and..." What else? 00:16:34.76\00:16:36.36 "Simplicity of heart..." 00:16:36.39\00:16:38.03 And it continues, 00:16:38.06\00:16:39.39 "Praising God and having favor with..." 00:16:39.43\00:16:43.57 How many people? 00:16:43.60\00:16:44.93 "All the people. 00:16:44.97\00:16:46.30 And the Lord added to the church..." 00:16:46.33\00:16:47.67 How often? 00:16:47.70\00:16:49.04 "Daily those who were being saved." 00:16:49.07\00:16:51.01 Something happened on a daily basis. 00:16:51.04\00:16:53.38 They were in the temple daily. 00:16:53.41\00:16:54.74 They continued house to house breaking bread daily 00:16:54.78\00:16:57.45 and people were being saved daily. 00:16:57.48\00:16:59.18 Amen? 00:16:59.21\00:17:00.62 So this breaking of bread 00:17:00.65\00:17:02.05 was simply what people might call today 00:17:02.08\00:17:04.62 small group ministries. 00:17:04.65\00:17:07.49 Cell group ministries is the term 00:17:07.52\00:17:09.12 that's often used nowadays. 00:17:09.16\00:17:10.49 They go from house to house, people pick Tuesday, 00:17:10.53\00:17:12.99 some people pick Thursday to have it at their home. 00:17:13.03\00:17:15.86 But it's simply what the New Testament church did. 00:17:15.90\00:17:18.07 That's where the concept of small groups came from 00:17:18.10\00:17:20.20 right this very example. 00:17:20.24\00:17:22.70 Go from house to house breaking bread 00:17:22.74\00:17:25.01 and the bread that we're breaking 00:17:25.04\00:17:26.37 was not only the bread of food, 00:17:26.41\00:17:27.94 but the bread of the Word of God. 00:17:27.98\00:17:29.74 So we find clearly based on Acts 2:46. 00:17:29.78\00:17:34.02 And here's the answer. Here's the question. 00:17:34.05\00:17:35.72 Did the breaking of bread 00:17:35.75\00:17:37.09 happen only on the first day of the week? 00:17:37.12\00:17:38.95 You only put one word down. What's that word? 00:17:38.99\00:17:41.39 No. 00:17:41.42\00:17:42.92 Absolutely. It happened every day. 00:17:42.96\00:17:45.39 Now what's amazing about the references here. 00:17:45.43\00:17:48.03 Let's go to the very next reference. 00:17:48.06\00:17:49.40 I want you to see this. 00:17:49.43\00:17:51.20 Acts Chapter... Question number 11. 00:17:51.23\00:17:54.30 Question number 11. 00:17:54.34\00:17:56.10 All right? 00:17:56.14\00:17:57.47 So far we've done that's the ninth reference, 00:17:57.51\00:18:00.78 we only have three more references and let's see 00:18:00.81\00:18:03.11 if this next reference will give us any support 00:18:03.14\00:18:05.75 for Sunday being a new day of worship 00:18:05.78\00:18:08.08 because that's what the Christian church today says, 00:18:08.12\00:18:10.99 Sunday is the new day of worship, 00:18:11.02\00:18:12.75 it's the day we honor because of the resurrection. 00:18:12.79\00:18:15.79 We're going to talk about that also. 00:18:15.82\00:18:17.53 And Rome, and Pope Francis, 00:18:17.56\00:18:19.79 and Pope Benedict, and Pope John Paul II 00:18:19.83\00:18:22.60 to be the most recent three popes continue to push 00:18:22.63\00:18:26.17 this observance of the first day of the week 00:18:26.20\00:18:28.80 not just for Catholics but for all the world. 00:18:28.84\00:18:31.71 That's a big part of his encyclical 00:18:31.74\00:18:33.71 which was repeated just recently 00:18:33.74\00:18:35.54 and he's going to be coming to America really soon 00:18:35.58\00:18:38.28 to talk to congressional leaders, 00:18:38.31\00:18:40.05 he had audience with many of the major mayors, 00:18:40.08\00:18:42.58 he's now having closed circuit 00:18:42.62\00:18:44.92 what they call a digital audiences 00:18:44.95\00:18:47.22 with people around the nation, 00:18:47.26\00:18:49.22 but he's talking about the need 00:18:49.26\00:18:50.96 in this broken world, this broken society 00:18:50.99\00:18:53.56 for everybody to honor the first day of the week 00:18:53.60\00:18:56.20 to save the economy and save our resources. 00:18:56.23\00:18:59.73 But he's saying it's based on the Bible. 00:18:59.77\00:19:02.57 God's Word is saying it's not. 00:19:02.60\00:19:05.17 And we're going to find out not only what the Bible says 00:19:05.21\00:19:07.08 about where it came from, 00:19:07.11\00:19:08.48 but we're going to also show you in a following study, 00:19:08.51\00:19:10.81 maybe in a few weeks 00:19:10.85\00:19:12.18 all the historical references 00:19:12.21\00:19:15.05 where Rome openly admits 00:19:15.08\00:19:17.69 that they changed the first day of the week 00:19:17.72\00:19:20.96 from scripture to tradition. 00:19:20.99\00:19:23.76 But Christians nowadays think it's scriptural. 00:19:23.79\00:19:27.03 And so to try to support that 00:19:27.06\00:19:28.46 they eliminate as much of the Bible as they could 00:19:28.50\00:19:30.97 and say, we're only New Testament. 00:19:31.00\00:19:34.90 I don't want to be cynical I'm being very, 00:19:34.94\00:19:36.84 you know, it's kind of crazy. 00:19:36.87\00:19:38.21 It is kind of cynical. 00:19:38.24\00:19:39.57 Let's get rid of most of the Bible 00:19:39.61\00:19:40.94 so we could find reasons 00:19:40.98\00:19:42.31 to honor the thing that we want. 00:19:42.34\00:19:44.81 The issue is not God's Word. The issue is the human heart. 00:19:44.85\00:19:47.55 Let's go to question number 11. 00:19:47.58\00:19:49.75 Question number 11. Here it is. 00:19:49.78\00:19:52.05 What was the 10th New Testament first day reference describing? 00:19:52.09\00:19:56.56 Let's go to Acts 20:8. 00:19:56.59\00:19:58.79 Acts 20:18. 00:19:58.83\00:20:00.50 What was the 10th New Testament first day reference describing? 00:20:00.53\00:20:05.63 Acts 20:18. 00:20:05.67\00:20:08.17 Very small reference, very minimal. 00:20:08.20\00:20:10.77 I'll bring it up to the screen 00:20:10.81\00:20:12.14 because it doesn't really have any great impact at all. 00:20:12.17\00:20:14.34 All right, here it is. 00:20:14.38\00:20:16.01 "And when they had come to him, 00:20:16.04\00:20:19.38 he said to them..." 00:20:19.41\00:20:21.08 And that is to Paul. 00:20:21.12\00:20:22.45 "You know, from the..." 00:20:22.48\00:20:23.95 What day? First day. 00:20:23.99\00:20:25.32 "From the first day that I came to Asia, 00:20:25.35\00:20:28.16 in what manner I always lived among you." 00:20:28.19\00:20:30.73 That's simply saying the day that I arrived. 00:20:30.76\00:20:33.60 So if I arrived in Thompsonville on Tuesday, 00:20:33.63\00:20:36.06 that's the first day I got here. 00:20:36.10\00:20:37.60 If I arrived on Friday, 00:20:37.63\00:20:38.97 that's the first day I got here. 00:20:39.00\00:20:40.34 That's simply saying, I'm just dating my arrival, 00:20:40.37\00:20:43.27 I'm not saying the first day of the week 00:20:43.30\00:20:45.07 but from the first day that I got here, 00:20:45.11\00:20:47.24 you know what kind of person I was 00:20:47.28\00:20:48.64 and how I lived among you, that's all that saying, 00:20:48.68\00:20:50.58 that's not referring to any specific one, two, three, four, 00:20:50.61\00:20:53.62 five, six or seventh day, 00:20:53.65\00:20:55.32 it's simply saying since I've been here, 00:20:55.35\00:20:57.55 that's all that simply saying. 00:20:57.59\00:20:58.92 All right, so there's no authority there. 00:20:58.95\00:21:00.46 Now here's the question. 00:21:00.49\00:21:01.82 Was... 00:21:01.86\00:21:03.19 What was the 10th New Testament first day reference describing? 00:21:03.22\00:21:06.70 Paul's arrival to Asia. 00:21:06.73\00:21:08.93 Write that down. 00:21:08.96\00:21:10.30 It was describing Paul's arrival to Asia. 00:21:10.33\00:21:12.90 That's all. That's all it's simply saying. 00:21:12.93\00:21:14.90 So if you go to the airport and pick up friends 00:21:14.94\00:21:17.21 and they will stay at your house for two weeks. 00:21:17.24\00:21:20.51 They say, ever since I got here, 00:21:20.54\00:21:21.91 the first day I got here, 00:21:21.94\00:21:24.15 I said hello to you at the airport. 00:21:24.18\00:21:26.01 Not any particular day of the week 00:21:26.05\00:21:27.62 but simply the timing of their arrival. 00:21:27.65\00:21:29.82 All right, so that is the 10th one 00:21:29.85\00:21:31.99 which means now it's kind of getting slim pickings, 00:21:32.02\00:21:35.42 means we only have how many left? 00:21:35.46\00:21:37.39 Come on. How many left? 00:21:37.43\00:21:38.89 Two. 00:21:38.93\00:21:40.26 The only 12 references to the first day. 00:21:40.30\00:21:41.83 Now let me just plug this in because it fits right here. 00:21:41.86\00:21:45.90 While you might think that the Sabbath is not talked about 00:21:45.93\00:21:48.50 because many pastors tell their congregation these things. 00:21:48.54\00:21:51.51 They say the Sabbath is not an issue in the New Testament, 00:21:51.54\00:21:53.81 when we take the Sabbath, 00:21:53.84\00:21:55.18 the Sabbath is mentioned 60 times in the New Testament 00:21:55.21\00:22:00.15 which is five times more than the first day. 00:22:00.18\00:22:05.05 So for people to say that the Sabbath 00:22:05.09\00:22:07.42 is not really reiterated in the New Testament, 00:22:07.46\00:22:09.86 it's a statement of deception. 00:22:09.89\00:22:11.99 You know, let me just, let me just say it, 00:22:12.03\00:22:13.53 I'm not trying to be hard, I want to be clear. 00:22:13.56\00:22:15.73 I want people to know what God's Word said. 00:22:15.76\00:22:17.50 Amen? Amen. 00:22:17.53\00:22:18.87 So if I'm going to, if I'm going to be straight, 00:22:18.90\00:22:20.27 you will appreciate me 00:22:20.30\00:22:21.64 not meandering in the maze of mediocrity. 00:22:21.67\00:22:23.91 If you came to the bank and you ask for $35, 00:22:23.94\00:22:26.24 I'm going to give you $35, not going to be 34.95 or 36, 00:22:26.27\00:22:30.45 you're going to get exactly what you asked for. 00:22:30.48\00:22:32.41 If you want the Word of God, 00:22:32.45\00:22:33.78 this is the station you're going to get it. 00:22:33.82\00:22:35.82 Right? 00:22:35.85\00:22:37.19 So here's the point. 00:22:37.22\00:22:38.55 Let's look at the 11th reference. 00:22:38.59\00:22:39.92 This is another reference often used. 00:22:39.95\00:22:41.89 So here's question number 12. 00:22:41.92\00:22:43.76 Question number 12. 00:22:43.79\00:22:45.53 Was the 11th New Testament first day reference 00:22:45.56\00:22:49.53 describing a church service? 00:22:49.56\00:22:52.47 I want that to come up on the screen. 00:22:52.50\00:22:54.07 Was the 11th New Testament day reference 00:22:54.10\00:22:57.17 describing a church service? 00:22:57.21\00:23:00.14 Now the reason I titled it that way 00:23:00.18\00:23:03.08 is because that's exactly what is said 00:23:03.11\00:23:06.01 in the Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrines, 00:23:06.05\00:23:08.28 the 1995 edition. 00:23:08.32\00:23:11.15 That's one of the references used 00:23:11.19\00:23:12.65 to try to establish the authority of the first day. 00:23:12.69\00:23:15.32 Very clever, but very misleading. 00:23:15.36\00:23:18.06 Let's go ahead and read that. 00:23:18.09\00:23:19.46 Let's go to 1 Corinthians Chapter 16 00:23:19.49\00:23:22.53 and we're going to look at verse 2. 00:23:22.56\00:23:25.33 But I'm going to turn there, 00:23:25.37\00:23:26.70 so we could read the verse before that. 00:23:26.74\00:23:28.07 And when I get to 1 Corinthians 16:2, 00:23:28.10\00:23:32.41 then I want you to bring it up on the screen. 00:23:32.44\00:23:34.34 All right. 00:23:34.38\00:23:35.84 Okay, here I am. Okay, great. 00:23:35.88\00:23:38.18 Let's read verse 1 first 00:23:38.21\00:23:39.55 and then our graphics people will bring 00:23:39.58\00:23:42.75 the second verse up on the screen. 00:23:42.78\00:23:44.35 Here it is. First one. 00:23:44.39\00:23:45.92 Now I'm in the Bible, 00:23:45.95\00:23:47.29 "Now concerning the..." What? 00:23:47.32\00:23:49.42 "Collection for the saints, 00:23:49.46\00:23:52.79 as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, 00:23:52.83\00:23:57.53 so you must do also." 00:23:57.57\00:24:00.04 So this is about collection for the saints. 00:24:00.07\00:24:02.57 What we want to find out 00:24:02.60\00:24:03.94 if this collection took place at church, 00:24:03.97\00:24:05.77 where did this collection take place? 00:24:05.81\00:24:08.54 Let's look at the next verse. Now on the screen. 00:24:08.58\00:24:11.11 "On the first day of the week 00:24:11.15\00:24:14.22 let each one of you lay something aside, 00:24:14.25\00:24:18.75 storing up as he may prosper, that there be..." 00:24:18.79\00:24:23.26 Together. 00:24:23.29\00:24:24.63 "No collections when I come." 00:24:24.66\00:24:28.00 Now this is huge. 00:24:28.03\00:24:30.50 You may have seen the Salvation Army come by and hang a bag, 00:24:30.53\00:24:34.00 in New York City this used to happen. 00:24:34.04\00:24:36.40 Or in Florida this used to happen, 00:24:36.44\00:24:37.84 having experiences out here. 00:24:37.87\00:24:39.41 But in many of the towns 00:24:39.44\00:24:40.78 where the Salvation Army is very active, 00:24:40.81\00:24:42.28 they collect clothing at different times of the year. 00:24:42.31\00:24:45.38 And so what they'll do is they'll hang a plastic bag 00:24:45.41\00:24:47.68 someplace during Christmas. 00:24:47.72\00:24:49.82 Some people do it during other holidays, 00:24:49.85\00:24:52.35 but they hang a plastic bag 00:24:52.39\00:24:53.72 and on the plastic bag they said, 00:24:53.76\00:24:55.39 "We will be back next Tuesday, 00:24:55.42\00:24:57.96 please have it ready when we come. 00:24:57.99\00:25:01.50 Now what this is? 00:25:01.53\00:25:02.86 This collection was for the saints 00:25:02.90\00:25:05.57 that were in hardship, and famine, 00:25:05.60\00:25:07.64 and difficulty in Jerusalem. 00:25:07.67\00:25:10.04 There was a hardship for the Christians in Jerusalem. 00:25:10.07\00:25:13.17 And so the churches of Galatia and the other churches said, 00:25:13.21\00:25:17.05 "We're going to help them out." 00:25:17.08\00:25:18.41 So Paul said, "Here's what I want you to do." 00:25:18.45\00:25:22.18 While you're working on your bills, 00:25:22.22\00:25:24.02 and the things that 00:25:24.05\00:25:25.42 many of us take care of our bills on Sunday, 00:25:25.45\00:25:28.02 we get together because Monday takes off like a rocket. 00:25:28.06\00:25:30.53 Many of us get together to find out what's in our house. 00:25:30.56\00:25:32.76 We write our bills, pay our bills, whatever. 00:25:32.79\00:25:34.86 Paul is saying, on the first day of the week, 00:25:34.90\00:25:38.03 let every one of you lay something aside 00:25:38.07\00:25:41.10 so that there's no collection when I come. 00:25:41.14\00:25:43.14 This is not people going to a church. 00:25:43.17\00:25:45.67 This is the apostles and the Christians 00:25:45.71\00:25:48.61 of these various churches of Galatia 00:25:48.64\00:25:50.71 particularly going from house to house collecting goods 00:25:50.75\00:25:54.82 that will be gathered together in a relief effort 00:25:54.85\00:25:58.09 for the Christians in Jerusalem. 00:25:58.12\00:26:00.06 This did not take place in a church. 00:26:00.09\00:26:02.72 This was not a church service. 00:26:02.76\00:26:04.89 This was a collection that was picked up from house to house. 00:26:04.93\00:26:08.26 Amen somebody? Amen. 00:26:08.30\00:26:10.07 So this also, 00:26:10.10\00:26:11.80 if this is used to give authority 00:26:11.83\00:26:13.54 to the first day of the week as a new day of worship, 00:26:13.57\00:26:15.94 you find nothing in this text at all 00:26:15.97\00:26:19.01 referring to a new day of worship. 00:26:19.04\00:26:21.78 The assumption or the huge phantom bridge that was built 00:26:21.81\00:26:25.81 is the word collection meaning it has to be a holy day. 00:26:25.85\00:26:29.18 Now here at 3ABN collections come in all week long. 00:26:29.22\00:26:32.95 And our church collections come in various times. 00:26:32.99\00:26:36.09 But the collection does not make the day holy. 00:26:36.12\00:26:38.36 And breaking bread and having lunch together 00:26:38.39\00:26:40.16 doesn't make the day holy. 00:26:40.20\00:26:41.53 You know what makes the day holy? 00:26:41.56\00:26:42.93 God does. 00:26:42.96\00:26:44.53 When the Lord blesses something, it's blessed. 00:26:44.57\00:26:47.54 And by the way as I go on to the next text, 00:26:47.57\00:26:49.64 this is one of the larger ones. 00:26:49.67\00:26:51.77 The three of those that often are referred to is John 20 00:26:51.81\00:26:56.28 where the disciples were hiding for fear of the Jews. 00:26:56.31\00:26:59.08 They would assemble for fear of the Jews. 00:26:59.11\00:27:01.52 That's the one, we knocked that down last study. 00:27:01.55\00:27:04.45 We discovered that 00:27:04.49\00:27:05.82 they were not assembling to have worship. 00:27:05.85\00:27:07.29 They were hiding behind closed doors 00:27:07.32\00:27:09.69 because Jesus had just been crucified 00:27:09.72\00:27:11.89 and they thought they were next. 00:27:11.93\00:27:13.86 Second one 00:27:13.90\00:27:15.23 is the breaking of bread from house to house. 00:27:15.26\00:27:16.93 It was done every day of the week. 00:27:16.97\00:27:19.00 Small group ministries, 00:27:19.03\00:27:20.44 this is where the New Testament concept came from. 00:27:20.47\00:27:23.34 The other one was 00:27:23.37\00:27:25.17 carefully collection being 00:27:25.21\00:27:26.88 taken for the saints in Jerusalem 00:27:26.91\00:27:28.84 that all the churches including the churches in Galatia 00:27:28.88\00:27:31.35 and others were laying things aside 00:27:31.38\00:27:33.42 so when the collecting truck so to speak, 00:27:33.45\00:27:36.08 in this case the collecting wagon came by, 00:27:36.12\00:27:38.95 they could simply say, "I got it from that house, 00:27:38.99\00:27:40.79 I got it from that house, I got it from the house." 00:27:40.82\00:27:43.16 So there'll be no collections when I come. 00:27:43.19\00:27:48.40 Not when we come. 00:27:48.43\00:27:51.07 but when they come. 00:27:51.10\00:27:54.04 Not when we come to church, 00:27:54.07\00:27:55.84 but when they come to our house. 00:27:55.87\00:27:57.61 Is that clear? 00:27:57.64\00:27:58.97 I thought it was very clear. 00:27:59.01\00:28:00.34 Amen? 00:28:00.38\00:28:01.71 Now let's go to the next one. 00:28:01.74\00:28:03.08 The last reference I want to tell you, 00:28:03.11\00:28:05.28 we shot 11 bullets. 00:28:05.31\00:28:07.72 We've hit nothing. 00:28:07.75\00:28:09.28 We got one left. 00:28:09.32\00:28:11.62 Question number 12. 00:28:11.65\00:28:13.39 Question number 12. Here it is. 00:28:13.42\00:28:15.76 Question number 12. 00:28:15.79\00:28:17.13 Question 13. 00:28:17.16\00:28:18.49 I mean, reference number 12, question number 13. 00:28:18.53\00:28:22.33 All right. 00:28:22.36\00:28:23.70 Our last reference, here's the question. 00:28:23.73\00:28:25.60 Does the 12th and last New Testament reference 00:28:25.63\00:28:30.74 establish a new day of worship? 00:28:30.77\00:28:33.81 Let's go now to Philippines 1:5. 00:28:33.84\00:28:38.61 Philippines 1:5. 00:28:38.65\00:28:40.55 One of my favorite books in the Bible is Philippines. 00:28:40.58\00:28:43.02 If you ever discouraged, read Philippines. 00:28:43.05\00:28:45.89 It's the champion's book, it's the winner's book. 00:28:45.92\00:28:48.19 It's the book that... When you say, "I'm tired." 00:28:48.22\00:28:50.86 It says, "Press toward the mark 00:28:50.89\00:28:53.19 for the prize of the upward call of God." 00:28:53.23\00:28:55.16 When you can't make it, 00:28:55.20\00:28:56.56 it says, "I can do all things through Christ 00:28:56.60\00:28:58.47 who strengthens me." 00:28:58.50\00:28:59.83 When your mind is confused, it says, 00:28:59.87\00:29:01.20 "Let this mind be in you which is also in Christ Jesus." 00:29:01.24\00:29:03.34 Amen? 00:29:03.37\00:29:04.71 It's the champion's book, it's not the book of failure. 00:29:04.74\00:29:07.64 But now let's see if this last reference 00:29:07.68\00:29:09.28 has anything to do with a new day of worship. 00:29:09.31\00:29:13.31 I'm going to go to Philippines. 00:29:13.35\00:29:15.25 I told you to go there, 00:29:15.28\00:29:17.15 but I have it on screen. 00:29:17.19\00:29:18.52 So I'm kind of being lazy. 00:29:18.55\00:29:20.39 I'm almost there. Here I am. 00:29:20.42\00:29:22.19 Okay, here we are. Philippines 1. 00:29:22.22\00:29:24.43 And the other one I like about is the verse right after that. 00:29:24.46\00:29:26.39 All right. 00:29:26.43\00:29:27.76 I want to just read a few verses 00:29:27.80\00:29:29.13 before that just to get the context, 00:29:29.16\00:29:30.63 I want to read verse 3 and we'll go to verse 5 00:29:30.67\00:29:32.77 and have that come up on the screen. 00:29:32.80\00:29:34.14 Here it is. 00:29:34.17\00:29:35.50 Verse 3, "I thank my God upon every remembrance of you." 00:29:35.54\00:29:38.37 Paul and Timothy, 00:29:38.41\00:29:39.74 servants of Jesus Christ in verse 1. 00:29:39.77\00:29:41.28 "I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 00:29:41.31\00:29:44.45 always in every prayer of mine 00:29:44.48\00:29:47.45 making request for you all with joy, 00:29:47.48\00:29:51.22 for your fellowship in the gospel from the..." 00:29:51.25\00:29:53.99 What? 00:29:54.02\00:29:55.36 "First day until now." 00:29:55.39\00:29:56.73 Another reference, simply talking about 00:29:56.76\00:29:58.36 ever since we began 00:29:58.39\00:30:00.36 your fellowship from the first day 00:30:00.40\00:30:02.33 we got together in this fellowship until now. 00:30:02.36\00:30:05.13 And here's my next favorite text in Philippines, 00:30:05.17\00:30:08.60 "Being confident of this very thing," verse 6 00:30:08.64\00:30:11.41 "He who has begun a good work in you will..." 00:30:11.44\00:30:14.24 Do what? 00:30:14.28\00:30:15.61 "Complete it, perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." 00:30:15.64\00:30:18.45 So this being the last reference 00:30:18.48\00:30:21.35 in the New Testament, for the first day 00:30:21.38\00:30:23.59 we have swung 12 times, 00:30:23.62\00:30:26.19 we haven't even hit a base hit. 00:30:26.22\00:30:29.79 And the reality of this fellow Christians is this. 00:30:29.82\00:30:33.19 You may be a part of a church 00:30:33.23\00:30:34.56 that observes Sunday as a holy day. 00:30:34.60\00:30:36.30 You may have heard that from week to week, 00:30:36.33\00:30:37.67 you may have even heard the phrase, 00:30:37.70\00:30:40.04 "This is the day the Lord has made, 00:30:40.07\00:30:41.70 let us rejoice and be glad in it," 00:30:41.74\00:30:43.54 like former Robert Schuller used to say 00:30:43.57\00:30:45.37 every Sunday morning. 00:30:45.41\00:30:46.78 And they kind of say, 00:30:46.81\00:30:48.14 "This is the day Lord has made." 00:30:48.18\00:30:49.51 They are right, this is the day He has made, 00:30:49.54\00:30:52.31 but that's not the day He blessed. 00:30:52.35\00:30:54.75 But by saying it almost kind of give some credence to it. 00:30:54.78\00:30:58.19 The Lord has made every day 00:30:58.22\00:31:00.46 but He only blessed one. 00:31:00.49\00:31:02.32 And He blessed the seventh day before sin entered the world. 00:31:02.36\00:31:06.80 He rested on it, He sanctified it, 00:31:06.83\00:31:09.33 He called it the Sabbath and He said, 00:31:09.36\00:31:10.90 "Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy." 00:31:10.93\00:31:13.44 Men came along and changed times and laws, 00:31:13.47\00:31:16.84 Daniel 7:25, 00:31:16.87\00:31:18.57 men changed times and laws. 00:31:18.61\00:31:20.08 We gonna look at that prophecy 00:31:20.11\00:31:21.51 and then going to give you the references, 00:31:21.54\00:31:23.21 so you cannot say, 00:31:23.24\00:31:24.71 you know, those guys on 3ABN said the change was made 00:31:24.75\00:31:27.15 but they gave me no proof. 00:31:27.18\00:31:28.95 You're going to get the proof, 00:31:28.98\00:31:30.32 and you'll be able to follow 00:31:30.35\00:31:31.69 every reference back to the original source. 00:31:31.72\00:31:34.09 The sad reality is this is this. 00:31:34.12\00:31:36.49 Many Christians practice things 00:31:36.52\00:31:38.09 that they have no scriptural support for, 00:31:38.13\00:31:40.40 it's based on tradition. 00:31:40.43\00:31:41.76 And much of what's happening 00:31:41.80\00:31:43.13 in the Christian church today is tradition, it's tradition, 00:31:43.16\00:31:46.94 but as we see with this recent change, 00:31:46.97\00:31:50.17 the Sabbath change almost 2000 years ago, 00:31:50.21\00:31:53.74 the Christians of that day were incensed. 00:31:53.78\00:31:56.91 The Christians of today 00:31:56.95\00:31:59.55 are only incensed about the same sex issue, 00:31:59.58\00:32:04.22 but they have swallowed 00:32:04.25\00:32:06.19 the tradition of the first day of the week. 00:32:06.22\00:32:08.62 Now let's go to question number 14. 00:32:08.66\00:32:11.79 Question number 14. 00:32:11.83\00:32:13.16 Very powerful. 00:32:13.19\00:32:16.46 Because now this is another text that's used 00:32:16.50\00:32:19.47 to try to connect it to the first day. 00:32:19.50\00:32:23.27 This is the text that's often used 00:32:23.30\00:32:24.94 to try to connect it to the first day 00:32:24.97\00:32:27.48 because it has a powerful phrase, 00:32:27.51\00:32:29.88 Lord's day. 00:32:29.91\00:32:31.51 And so, if you could use the phrase Lord's day, Dee, 00:32:31.55\00:32:35.52 then somehow, 00:32:35.55\00:32:36.89 you know, we have two Dees sitting together. 00:32:36.92\00:32:39.12 When you use a phrase, Lord's day, 00:32:39.15\00:32:41.39 somehow people think, oh, that must be the day. 00:32:41.42\00:32:44.46 So some people say, "Sunday is the Lord's day." 00:32:44.49\00:32:47.66 In an article I have on my iPad right now. 00:32:47.70\00:32:50.63 I'll just read you the heading, 00:32:50.67\00:32:52.03 this is from the Catholic News Agency. 00:32:52.07\00:32:55.14 And here's the heading of the article, 00:32:55.17\00:32:56.67 "The Sabbath or the Lord's day" by Pope Francis. 00:32:56.71\00:33:00.51 It's the Sabbath or the Lord's day 00:33:00.54\00:33:03.35 as if they are in opposition to each other. 00:33:03.38\00:33:06.11 That's the way it's being presented today. 00:33:06.15\00:33:08.02 The Sabbath is being connected just to the Jews, 00:33:08.05\00:33:10.25 they're trying to make the Jews seem like 00:33:10.29\00:33:11.62 the worst people on earth. 00:33:11.65\00:33:13.36 And the Sabbath that the Lord gave to them 00:33:13.39\00:33:15.16 to share with the world 00:33:15.19\00:33:16.52 as the worst day on earth 00:33:16.56\00:33:18.19 that makes the Sabbath like this day of stigma, 00:33:18.23\00:33:21.00 the day that you work your way to heaven, 00:33:21.03\00:33:23.33 but that's not the Sabbath. 00:33:23.37\00:33:24.87 So you have to see and understand the Bible 00:33:24.90\00:33:26.33 in its proper context. 00:33:26.37\00:33:27.70 So now let's go to Revelation. 00:33:27.74\00:33:29.07 And here's the question, question number 14. 00:33:29.10\00:33:30.94 What does Revelations reference to the Lord's day mean? 00:33:30.97\00:33:34.11 Once again, 00:33:34.14\00:33:35.48 what does Revelations reference to the Lord's day mean? 00:33:35.51\00:33:38.05 Question number 14. 00:33:38.08\00:33:39.58 Let's go to the question. Let's go to the Scripture. 00:33:39.61\00:33:42.02 Revelation 1:10. 00:33:42.05\00:33:43.65 Revelation 1:10. Here it is. 00:33:43.69\00:33:47.49 And this is in Revelation, the last book of the Bible. 00:33:47.52\00:33:50.66 John the Apostle 00:33:50.69\00:33:53.50 is mushroomed on the Island of Patmos. 00:33:53.53\00:33:56.26 Actually, not mushroomed, 00:33:56.30\00:33:57.63 he is abandoned, he's imprisoned. 00:33:57.67\00:34:00.74 He didn't get stuck there. He got put there. 00:34:00.77\00:34:03.07 All right? 00:34:03.10\00:34:04.44 Revelation 1:10. 00:34:04.47\00:34:06.68 And while he's there, 00:34:06.71\00:34:09.51 the Bible says in verse 10 of John of Revelation 1, 00:34:09.54\00:34:13.05 here it is on the screen. 00:34:13.08\00:34:14.42 "I was in the Spirit on the..." What day? 00:34:14.45\00:34:17.59 "Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, 00:34:17.62\00:34:22.26 as of a..." What? 00:34:22.29\00:34:23.63 "A trumpet." 00:34:23.66\00:34:24.99 When you read the Bible, 00:34:25.03\00:34:26.36 you'll see that the trumpet is often referred to 00:34:26.39\00:34:27.73 as the preaching of the gospel or an instrument used 00:34:27.76\00:34:29.66 to warn the people of difficulty to come. 00:34:29.70\00:34:31.97 Isaiah 58 says, 00:34:32.00\00:34:33.34 "Lift up your voice like a trumpet, 00:34:33.37\00:34:35.87 the proclamation of the gospel." 00:34:35.90\00:34:37.41 So John on the Lord's day, 00:34:37.44\00:34:39.67 he hears this voice behind him 00:34:39.71\00:34:41.84 and the voice is going to give him instruction. 00:34:41.88\00:34:44.18 And when he turns around 00:34:44.21\00:34:45.81 to find out the source of this voice, 00:34:45.85\00:34:47.85 this voice is none other than 00:34:47.88\00:34:49.82 the voice of the Alpha and the Omega, 00:34:49.85\00:34:52.69 the beginning and the end, 00:34:52.72\00:34:54.76 the first and the last Jesus through the Holy Spirit 00:34:54.79\00:34:58.53 meets John on the island 00:34:58.56\00:35:01.03 or this rock, this prison rock called Patmos. 00:35:01.06\00:35:05.37 But many people say, 00:35:05.40\00:35:07.10 "Well, it was on the Lord's day 00:35:07.14\00:35:09.07 and Sunday is the Lord's day." 00:35:09.10\00:35:11.91 That's what they've been taught. 00:35:11.94\00:35:13.74 They've been taught that, 00:35:13.78\00:35:15.11 but let me, let the Bible speak for itself. 00:35:15.14\00:35:18.05 We'll also show you later on 00:35:18.08\00:35:20.32 how traditionally the transition 00:35:20.35\00:35:25.05 was made by men connecting the word 00:35:25.09\00:35:28.26 or the phrase Lord's day to the first day of the week. 00:35:28.29\00:35:31.03 We'll show you that reference. 00:35:31.06\00:35:32.39 But right now let's let the Bible tell us 00:35:32.43\00:35:34.36 what the Lord's day is. 00:35:34.40\00:35:35.73 Go with me to Isaiah Chapter 58 00:35:35.76\00:35:37.60 and we are going to look together at verse 13. 00:35:37.63\00:35:41.87 The answer is does... 00:35:41.90\00:35:44.31 What does Revelation's reference 00:35:44.34\00:35:46.04 to the Lord's Day mean? 00:35:46.07\00:35:48.48 Revelation 1:10, it simply means the Lord's day. 00:35:48.51\00:35:51.95 But, well, we're going to get the answer right now. 00:35:51.98\00:35:53.98 We're going to be able to answer both of them together. 00:35:54.02\00:35:55.92 It simply means the Lord's day. 00:35:55.95\00:35:57.72 Okay, but we're going to find out 00:35:57.75\00:36:00.29 what is the Lord's day. 00:36:00.32\00:36:02.12 Let the Bible tell us what the Lord's day is? 00:36:02.16\00:36:04.39 Wouldn't be safe if we let the Bible say it, 00:36:04.43\00:36:07.66 but I was having a conversation with the pastor once. 00:36:07.70\00:36:10.37 And he actually got upset with me 00:36:10.40\00:36:11.97 because I would not answer him other than by the Bible. 00:36:12.00\00:36:15.30 He says, "Can't you just tell me, 00:36:15.34\00:36:16.67 give me your opinion?" 00:36:16.71\00:36:18.04 I said, "Pastor, I cannot give you any opinions 00:36:18.07\00:36:20.38 because the Bible is my only source of authority." 00:36:20.41\00:36:24.45 Whenever you practice 00:36:24.48\00:36:25.81 what is not supported by the Bible, 00:36:25.85\00:36:27.18 it's an opinion. 00:36:27.22\00:36:28.55 No matter how sincere you may be, 00:36:28.58\00:36:31.65 you could be sincerely wrong. 00:36:31.69\00:36:34.96 Right? 00:36:34.99\00:36:36.32 Amen. That's right. 00:36:36.36\00:36:37.69 You could get up on the wrong floor 00:36:37.73\00:36:39.06 and say, "Oh, I made a mistake." 00:36:39.09\00:36:41.06 But here's what we're talking about. 00:36:41.10\00:36:42.46 We're not talking about perpetuating a mistake. 00:36:42.50\00:36:46.27 We're not talking about perpetuating those things 00:36:46.30\00:36:48.50 that are comfortable to you. 00:36:48.54\00:36:49.87 We're talking about if you are wrong, correct it 00:36:49.90\00:36:52.94 and live in harmony with God's will. 00:36:52.97\00:36:54.41 Amen? Amen. 00:36:54.44\00:36:55.78 You'll find out why it is in harmony with God's will 00:36:55.81\00:36:57.35 in just a moment. 00:36:57.38\00:36:58.71 But let's go ahead and let Isaiah tell us 00:36:58.75\00:37:01.58 what day the Lord identifies as his day. 00:37:01.62\00:37:03.95 Isaiah 58:13, here it is on the screen. 00:37:03.99\00:37:06.76 If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath..." 00:37:06.79\00:37:10.39 If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath..." 00:37:10.43\00:37:12.79 Let's bring that up. 00:37:12.83\00:37:14.16 "From doing your pleasure on..." 00:37:14.20\00:37:17.07 What? 00:37:17.10\00:37:18.43 "My holy day and call the..." What? 00:37:18.47\00:37:23.20 "Sabbath a delight. 00:37:23.24\00:37:26.57 The holy day of the Lord honorable 00:37:26.61\00:37:29.64 and shall honor Him," see that? 00:37:29.68\00:37:32.31 Notice. 00:37:32.35\00:37:33.68 The Sabbath, my holy day, 00:37:33.72\00:37:35.42 call the Sabbath a day of delight, 00:37:35.45\00:37:38.02 the holy day of the Lord. 00:37:38.05\00:37:39.75 So what day is the Lord's day? 00:37:39.79\00:37:41.82 The Sabbath, keep going in the rest of the text. 00:37:41.86\00:37:44.13 And it says, "Not doing your own ways, 00:37:44.16\00:37:47.03 nor finding your own pleasures, 00:37:47.06\00:37:49.20 nor speaking your own..." What? 00:37:49.23\00:37:50.63 "Words." 00:37:50.67\00:37:52.00 Let's break that down again. 00:37:52.03\00:37:53.67 Isaiah 58:13 says, 00:37:53.70\00:37:55.60 "If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, 00:37:55.64\00:37:59.27 my holy day, 00:37:59.31\00:38:01.64 the Sabbath, a day of delight, 00:38:01.68\00:38:03.85 the Holy day of the Lord." 00:38:03.88\00:38:05.85 So now let's put the answer down here. 00:38:05.88\00:38:07.95 Revelation 1:10 is referring to what day? 00:38:07.98\00:38:10.95 To Sabbath. 00:38:10.99\00:38:12.32 Based on the authority of God's Word, 00:38:12.35\00:38:14.39 Revelation 1:10 cannot refer to any other day 00:38:14.42\00:38:17.76 but the Sabbath, 00:38:17.79\00:38:19.13 you find no scriptural reference 00:38:19.16\00:38:21.26 connecting the first day to the Lord's day. 00:38:21.30\00:38:24.13 Did God make every day? Yes. 00:38:24.17\00:38:26.43 Should we worship God every day? 00:38:26.47\00:38:28.20 Yes. 00:38:28.24\00:38:29.57 Should we live holy lives every day? 00:38:29.60\00:38:31.27 Yes. 00:38:31.31\00:38:32.71 It's amazing how deceptive preachers are today. 00:38:32.74\00:38:36.08 I'm being straight tonight. 00:38:36.11\00:38:37.65 I don't have time to waste. 00:38:37.68\00:38:39.01 It costs money to put this program on. 00:38:39.05\00:38:41.38 And your salvation 00:38:41.42\00:38:42.78 is depending on your obedience to God's word. 00:38:42.82\00:38:44.99 All right? 00:38:45.02\00:38:46.35 Preachers today, 00:38:46.39\00:38:47.72 I don't want to mention their names. 00:38:47.76\00:38:49.09 It almost came out. I want to be kind. 00:38:49.12\00:38:50.46 Some preachers say, 00:38:50.49\00:38:51.83 "I worship God on the first day 00:38:51.86\00:38:53.86 and I worship God on the second day 00:38:53.90\00:38:55.60 and I worship God." 00:38:55.63\00:38:57.10 One preacher said, "I worship God on the Sabbath, 00:38:57.13\00:38:59.23 and I worship God on Sunday, and I worship God on Monday, 00:38:59.27\00:39:01.74 and I worship God on Tuesday." 00:39:01.77\00:39:03.10 Let me put that in the proper context. 00:39:03.14\00:39:04.91 I'm married on Saturday, I'm married on Sunday. 00:39:04.94\00:39:07.94 I'm married on Tuesday. 00:39:07.98\00:39:09.54 I'm married on Monday, 00:39:09.58\00:39:10.91 come on help me out somebody. 00:39:10.95\00:39:12.28 I'm married every day. 00:39:12.31\00:39:13.65 But every day is not my anniversary. 00:39:13.68\00:39:15.02 I only have a birthday once a year. 00:39:18.15\00:39:19.65 I got an anniversary once a year. 00:39:19.69\00:39:21.06 We have an anniversary once a year. 00:39:21.09\00:39:23.06 There's only one day that identifies 00:39:23.09\00:39:24.69 the sanctity of our relationship. 00:39:24.73\00:39:27.53 So when a pastor says, 00:39:27.56\00:39:28.93 "I worship God on the first day, 00:39:28.96\00:39:30.60 I worship God on Saturday, Sunday, Friday, Wednesday." 00:39:30.63\00:39:34.77 He's muddying God's Word. 00:39:34.80\00:39:37.34 He's deceiving you by clever words, trickery. 00:39:37.37\00:39:41.04 And the Bible says, "The cunning craftiness 00:39:41.08\00:39:43.65 whereby they lie and wait to deceive." 00:39:43.68\00:39:47.72 That's deception. 00:39:47.75\00:39:49.15 If that's what you hear, 00:39:49.18\00:39:50.65 leave and look for the truth. 00:39:50.69\00:39:53.02 Don't sit there and let men 00:39:53.05\00:39:54.86 who may make you feel comfortable 00:39:54.89\00:39:56.93 and give you good music 00:39:56.96\00:39:58.29 and you feel you have great community programs. 00:39:58.33\00:40:01.20 Community programs are not salvation. 00:40:01.23\00:40:03.30 The Lord says, "If you love Me, keep My..." 00:40:03.33\00:40:04.73 What? "Commandments." 00:40:04.77\00:40:06.10 We ought to obey God rather than men. 00:40:06.13\00:40:08.24 Acts 5:29-32, 00:40:08.27\00:40:10.34 "Obey God rather than men." 00:40:10.37\00:40:13.27 The Sabbath is the Lord's day. 00:40:13.31\00:40:16.38 This first day reference to John, 00:40:16.41\00:40:18.38 this reference to Revelation 1:10 00:40:18.41\00:40:20.18 is not referring at all to the first day of the week. 00:40:20.22\00:40:23.15 Now, let's go to question number 15. 00:40:23.18\00:40:27.62 I wish I had another hour, 00:40:27.66\00:40:30.59 that's okay. 00:40:30.63\00:40:31.96 They said, "Sometimes it's better 00:40:31.99\00:40:33.33 to give dessert next week." 00:40:33.36\00:40:35.53 All right. 00:40:35.56\00:40:36.90 I'm going to go as quickly as I could. 00:40:36.93\00:40:38.83 Efficiency is important. 00:40:38.87\00:40:40.34 Question number 15 is a very vitally important question. 00:40:40.37\00:40:42.77 Here it is. 00:40:42.80\00:40:44.47 How do we know that Jesus never intended 00:40:44.51\00:40:48.31 to replace the Sabbath? 00:40:48.34\00:40:50.01 How do we know that? 00:40:50.05\00:40:51.38 Let's go to Matthew 24, 00:40:51.41\00:40:53.58 the book where Jesus outlines 00:40:53.62\00:40:57.15 to this now converted tax collector, 00:40:57.19\00:41:00.52 the signs of the end, 00:41:00.56\00:41:02.46 the destruction of Jerusalem 00:41:02.49\00:41:04.26 and the signs of the end of the world. 00:41:04.29\00:41:07.50 He intermingles them both together. 00:41:07.53\00:41:10.93 How do we know that 00:41:10.97\00:41:12.30 Jesus never intended to replace the Sabbath? 00:41:12.33\00:41:15.27 Now what I want you to find out, 00:41:15.30\00:41:16.64 we're going to look at some of these signs. 00:41:16.67\00:41:18.17 We're going to begin with, 00:41:18.21\00:41:19.54 you know, he talks about there will be false christs 00:41:19.57\00:41:21.91 and false prophets. 00:41:21.94\00:41:23.28 They'll be showing signs and wonders. 00:41:23.31\00:41:26.25 And then he talks about, 00:41:26.28\00:41:27.85 he intermingles in this description something 00:41:27.88\00:41:31.39 that if persecution ever happens, 00:41:31.42\00:41:35.32 let's pray that doesn't happen on this day. 00:41:35.36\00:41:38.09 Now what I want to preface before I read the text, 00:41:38.13\00:41:40.33 this was spoken by Jesus in the year 31 AD. 00:41:40.36\00:41:44.07 What year did I say? 31 AD. 00:41:44.10\00:41:47.20 Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 AD, 00:41:47.24\00:41:50.27 39 years later. 00:41:50.31\00:41:52.81 Now here's the context. 00:41:52.84\00:41:54.48 If the Sabbath was done away with, 00:41:54.51\00:41:57.88 if Jesus intended to get rid of it, 00:41:57.91\00:42:01.25 Sister Zeta. 00:42:01.28\00:42:02.62 He would never say 00:42:02.65\00:42:04.72 when Jerusalem was destroyed, 00:42:04.75\00:42:06.65 pray that it doesn't happen on the Sabbath. 00:42:06.69\00:42:09.32 Because he would have said, "You know, guys, 00:42:09.36\00:42:10.69 I'm getting rid of the Sabbath. 00:42:10.73\00:42:12.69 Just pray that it doesn't happen on the Lord's day." 00:42:12.73\00:42:15.13 If that's the reference you want to add to the first day, 00:42:15.16\00:42:17.53 but it's not connected. 00:42:17.57\00:42:18.90 He would have said, "Pray that it doesn't happen on Sunday." 00:42:18.93\00:42:21.27 But he didn't say that. 00:42:21.30\00:42:22.64 He said when destruction comes.
