Let's sing the song together. 00:02:39.35\00:02:41.39 I heard an old, old story 00:02:50.37\00:02:54.10 How the Savior came from glory 00:02:54.14\00:02:57.84 How He gave His life on Calvary 00:02:57.87\00:03:01.54 To save a wretch like me 00:03:01.58\00:03:05.38 I heard about His groaning 00:03:05.41\00:03:09.22 Of His precious blood's atoning 00:03:09.25\00:03:12.95 Then I repented of my sin 00:03:12.99\00:03:16.86 And won the victory 00:03:16.89\00:03:20.70 O victory in Jesus 00:03:20.73\00:03:24.33 My Savior forever 00:03:24.37\00:03:28.27 He sought me 00:03:28.30\00:03:30.07 and bought me 00:03:30.11\00:03:31.81 With His redeeming blood 00:03:31.84\00:03:35.74 He loved me ere I knew Him 00:03:35.78\00:03:39.48 And all my love is due Him 00:03:39.51\00:03:43.22 He plunged me to victory 00:03:43.25\00:03:47.06 Beneath the cleansing flood 00:03:47.09\00:03:50.96 I heard about a mansion 00:03:50.99\00:03:54.53 He has built for me in glory 00:03:54.56\00:03:58.40 And I heard about the streets of gold 00:03:58.43\00:04:02.14 Beyond the crystal sea 00:04:02.17\00:04:06.01 About the angels singing 00:04:06.04\00:04:09.64 And the old redemption story 00:04:09.68\00:04:13.42 And some sweet day I'll sing up there 00:04:13.45\00:04:17.22 The song of victory 00:04:17.25\00:04:20.92 O victory in Jesus 00:04:20.96\00:04:24.73 My Savior forever 00:04:24.76\00:04:28.66 He sought me 00:04:28.70\00:04:30.53 And bought me 00:04:30.57\00:04:32.37 With His redeeming blood 00:04:32.40\00:04:36.20 He loved me ere I knew Him 00:04:36.24\00:04:39.97 And all my love is due Him 00:04:40.01\00:04:43.65 He plunged me to victory 00:04:43.68\00:04:47.42 Beneath the cleansing flood 00:04:47.45\00:04:51.25 He plunged me to victory 00:04:51.29\00:04:55.02 Beneath the cleansing flood 00:04:55.06\00:05:01.86 Amen. 00:05:01.90\00:05:03.63 Little a cappella tonight, but that's okay. 00:05:03.67\00:05:05.80 The song is still just as beautiful, 00:05:05.83\00:05:08.84 Victory in Jesus. 00:05:08.87\00:05:11.14 Now as we transition to our first question 00:05:11.17\00:05:13.98 for tonight, 00:05:14.01\00:05:15.34 the topic is The Truth About the Judgment. 00:05:15.38\00:05:19.55 No one likes to go to court except to be a juror 00:05:19.58\00:05:22.48 or except to come to represent someone else. 00:05:22.52\00:05:25.45 But when anyone is summoned to court, 00:05:25.49\00:05:27.56 it's always an experience of in-trepidation. 00:05:27.59\00:05:31.59 Why am I being summoned? 00:05:31.63\00:05:33.36 What am I being charged with? 00:05:33.40\00:05:35.53 What is piled up against me? 00:05:35.56\00:05:37.40 What is the evidence? 00:05:37.43\00:05:38.80 How am I supposed to react? 00:05:38.83\00:05:40.84 How is the outcome of the trial going to be? 00:05:40.87\00:05:44.21 Is it going to be in my favor? 00:05:44.24\00:05:46.01 Am I going to be acquitted? 00:05:46.04\00:05:47.64 Am I going to be indicted? 00:05:47.68\00:05:49.21 Will I serve time? Will I walk? 00:05:49.24\00:05:50.98 All those questions come into the mind of individuals. 00:05:51.01\00:05:54.38 And now in America, 00:05:54.42\00:05:55.75 we have something called court TV. 00:05:55.78\00:05:57.75 And then the news, day by day, whenever there's a case, 00:05:57.79\00:06:00.86 they just happened to come to the place now. 00:06:00.89\00:06:02.62 They take you stage by stage through trials. 00:06:02.66\00:06:06.56 And America, many of us remember a number of years ago, 00:06:06.59\00:06:09.93 the OJ Simpson trial 00:06:09.96\00:06:11.50 that seemed to have grabbed the attention 00:06:11.53\00:06:13.47 of almost all Americans, 00:06:13.50\00:06:14.90 they were pinned to the television 00:06:14.94\00:06:17.31 as they looked at, 00:06:17.34\00:06:18.71 and hung their feelings and emotions 00:06:18.74\00:06:21.31 on every word from the prosecution 00:06:21.34\00:06:24.48 to the defense team. 00:06:24.51\00:06:25.85 And many were shocked about the outcome. 00:06:25.88\00:06:28.25 But I want to tell you, 00:06:28.28\00:06:29.88 in this judgment, 00:06:29.92\00:06:31.49 there is going to be some shock about the outcome, 00:06:31.52\00:06:34.09 but the evidence is going to be clear 00:06:34.12\00:06:36.06 because the Lord, the righteous Judge, 00:06:36.09\00:06:38.53 is going to be the one presiding in our behalf 00:06:38.56\00:06:41.93 or against those who choose not to take a stand with Him. 00:06:41.96\00:06:45.23 Go with me to a particular text. 00:06:45.27\00:06:46.60 I want you to see 00:06:46.63\00:06:47.97 2 Timothy 4:8. 00:06:48.00\00:06:49.54 I want to begin with this one. 00:06:49.57\00:06:51.57 This is not a part of our syllabus, 00:06:51.61\00:06:53.84 but I'd like to begin with that one 00:06:53.88\00:06:55.21 because Paul the Apostle, 00:06:55.24\00:06:58.68 when he talked about the judgment, 00:06:58.71\00:07:01.52 the words he used here 00:07:01.55\00:07:03.25 in 2 Timothy 4:8, 00:07:03.28\00:07:10.23 4:8, 00:07:10.26\00:07:12.83 words that will bring 00:07:12.86\00:07:15.26 not only information to us 00:07:15.30\00:07:17.83 but that will bring encouragement to us. 00:07:17.87\00:07:19.60 Notice what he says about the Lord. 00:07:19.63\00:07:24.21 In verse 7, I'll begin there, 00:07:24.24\00:07:25.97 he says, 00:07:26.01\00:07:27.34 "I have fought," what kind of fight? 00:07:27.38\00:07:29.98 "A good fight, I have finished the race, 00:07:30.01\00:07:33.68 I have kept the faith." 00:07:33.72\00:07:35.75 Three things he did. 00:07:35.78\00:07:37.12 Fought, finished, and kept. 00:07:37.15\00:07:40.12 But notice what he says in verse 8. 00:07:40.16\00:07:42.19 "Finally, there is laid up for me, 00:07:42.22\00:07:45.83 the crown of righteousness, 00:07:45.86\00:07:48.60 which the Lord," the what kind of judge? 00:07:48.63\00:07:51.70 "The righteous judge." 00:07:51.73\00:07:53.44 So the Lord that we're looking forward to facing, 00:07:53.47\00:07:56.00 if we are His son and daughter, 00:07:56.04\00:07:59.21 if we have lived according to His will 00:07:59.24\00:08:01.34 and His way, 00:08:01.38\00:08:03.21 notice what the benefit is going to be. 00:08:03.24\00:08:05.15 "The Lord, the righteous Judge, 00:08:05.18\00:08:06.78 that crown of righteousness, " 00:08:06.82\00:08:08.15 he says, 00:08:08.18\00:08:09.52 "will give me on that day and not to me only 00:08:09.55\00:08:14.26 but to all who have loved His appearing." 00:08:14.29\00:08:17.79 Now I want to begin with that text tonight, 00:08:17.83\00:08:19.76 love His appearing. 00:08:19.79\00:08:21.40 If you know you've done something wrong, 00:08:21.43\00:08:23.06 you don't love seeing the judge walk out. 00:08:23.10\00:08:26.90 But if you've done something right, 00:08:26.94\00:08:28.37 you love His appearing. 00:08:28.40\00:08:29.97 Here he comes, and you smile. 00:08:30.01\00:08:31.51 Matter of fact, you're actually courteous. 00:08:31.54\00:08:33.27 If the judge comes out and you are the defendant, 00:08:33.31\00:08:36.01 you are on the prosecution side, 00:08:36.04\00:08:37.81 you're there to prosecute someone 00:08:37.85\00:08:39.18 who has done something against you, 00:08:39.21\00:08:40.55 when the judge comes out, you're kind of, 00:08:40.58\00:08:42.62 "Hello, your honor. 00:08:42.65\00:08:44.22 Glad to see you." 00:08:44.25\00:08:45.59 But if you're on the defense, 00:08:45.62\00:08:46.96 you're not happy, 00:08:46.99\00:08:48.32 you don't love His appearing. 00:08:48.36\00:08:50.33 I want to begin tonight with this particular phrase, 00:08:50.36\00:08:52.73 "When you serve the Lord, 00:08:52.76\00:08:54.26 You are not fearful of the judge." 00:08:54.30\00:08:55.86 What kind of judge is He according to this text? 00:08:55.90\00:08:58.93 He's a righteous judge. 00:08:58.97\00:09:01.10 And so if we are living a righteous life, 00:09:01.14\00:09:04.21 then the righteous judge is the one 00:09:04.24\00:09:05.97 that we love His appearing, 00:09:06.01\00:09:08.91 but not everyone is going to love His appearing. 00:09:08.94\00:09:10.88 Go with me to Revelation, 00:09:10.91\00:09:12.25 I'm going to show you something. 00:09:12.28\00:09:13.62 Look at some of the reactions, 00:09:13.65\00:09:14.98 Revelation chapter 6 00:09:15.02\00:09:16.35 show you that 00:09:16.38\00:09:17.72 not everybody's going to like His appearing. 00:09:17.75\00:09:19.39 There are going to be two responses. 00:09:19.42\00:09:21.22 Let me show you the response of those 00:09:21.26\00:09:22.72 that don't like His appearing. 00:09:22.76\00:09:24.56 Revelation chapter 6, 00:09:24.59\00:09:26.76 and look at this verse. 00:09:26.80\00:09:29.73 All right, 00:09:29.76\00:09:31.10 and let's see, 00:09:31.13\00:09:32.47 we'll start with verse 14. 00:09:32.50\00:09:35.90 Verse 14, 00:09:35.94\00:09:39.14 the Bible says, 00:09:39.17\00:09:40.51 "Then the sky," speaking about the coming of the Lord, 00:09:40.54\00:09:43.98 "receded as a scroll when it is rolled up 00:09:44.01\00:09:46.75 or rolled together," depending on what translation, 00:09:46.78\00:09:49.38 "and every mountain and island 00:09:49.42\00:09:50.75 was moved out of its place, 00:09:50.79\00:09:52.89 and the kings of the earth, 00:09:52.92\00:09:54.92 the great men, the rich men, 00:09:54.96\00:09:57.33 the commanders, the mighty men, 00:09:57.36\00:10:00.40 every slave, and every free man," 00:10:00.43\00:10:03.03 what did they do? 00:10:03.06\00:10:04.50 "Hid themselves in the caves 00:10:04.53\00:10:08.47 and in the rocks of the mountains." 00:10:08.50\00:10:10.21 Why did they hide themselves? 00:10:10.24\00:10:11.81 Because they did not blank His appearing. 00:10:11.84\00:10:14.64 What's the word I'm missing? 00:10:14.68\00:10:16.01 They did not love His appearing. 00:10:16.04\00:10:18.21 Because to them, 00:10:18.25\00:10:19.85 He is not the righteous judge. 00:10:19.88\00:10:22.78 He's the judge that's coming to execute judgment, 00:10:22.82\00:10:26.25 so they hid themselves. 00:10:26.29\00:10:28.02 And then it goes on in verse 16. 00:10:28.06\00:10:30.89 And they said to the mountains and the rocks, 00:10:30.93\00:10:33.26 "Fall on us," and what's the next word? 00:10:33.29\00:10:36.40 "Hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne." 00:10:36.43\00:10:40.70 The judge sitting on His throne. 00:10:40.74\00:10:43.34 They don't like His appearing. 00:10:43.37\00:10:44.81 So they said, "Would you hide His face from us." 00:10:44.84\00:10:48.61 But for those of us who love His appearing will say... 00:10:48.64\00:10:51.21 I'll show you in just a moment 00:10:51.25\00:10:52.58 what our reaction is going to be, 00:10:52.61\00:10:53.95 but let's finish their reaction. 00:10:53.98\00:10:55.32 "Hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne, 00:10:55.35\00:10:58.79 and from the," what, 00:10:58.82\00:11:00.46 "Wrath of the Lamb, 00:11:00.49\00:11:01.89 for the great day of His wrath has come, 00:11:01.92\00:11:04.73 and who is able to stand." 00:11:04.76\00:11:06.43 That's all judgment language. 00:11:06.46\00:11:08.46 Standing. 00:11:08.50\00:11:09.83 When you come... When the judge comes out, 00:11:09.86\00:11:11.43 we'll all rise. 00:11:11.47\00:11:14.57 When the judge comes, all rise. 00:11:14.60\00:11:16.50 Who will be able to rise? 00:11:16.54\00:11:18.57 In other words, who will be able to... 00:11:18.61\00:11:20.64 You know, if you're guilty, you don't want to stand up. 00:11:20.68\00:11:23.21 It's like, "Do I have to stand up?" 00:11:23.24\00:11:25.58 And they stand up. 00:11:25.61\00:11:26.95 It's really sad when you see people 00:11:26.98\00:11:28.32 that are shackled, and they're chained, 00:11:28.35\00:11:30.25 and they have orange jumpsuits 00:11:30.29\00:11:32.59 or their white and black stripes, 00:11:32.62\00:11:34.42 they stand up as the ones 00:11:34.46\00:11:36.19 who are accused of something that they have done. 00:11:36.22\00:11:38.79 They stand, but in this case, 00:11:38.83\00:11:42.16 the judge who sits on the throne, 00:11:42.20\00:11:44.13 the wicked are saying, 00:11:44.17\00:11:45.50 "Hide us from His face 00:11:45.53\00:11:48.64 because who is able to withstand 00:11:48.67\00:11:51.01 the wrath of the Lamb?" 00:11:51.04\00:11:52.94 That in and of itself is a controversial topic 00:11:52.97\00:11:55.74 because most people are not afraid of lambs 00:11:55.78\00:11:59.25 because lambs are gentle. 00:11:59.28\00:12:00.95 To the Christian, 00:12:00.98\00:12:02.32 to the one who has served the Lord, 00:12:02.35\00:12:03.92 there's a different reaction altogether. 00:12:03.95\00:12:06.29 Now let's go to Isaiah chapter 25. 00:12:06.32\00:12:09.92 Let's look at the other reaction. 00:12:09.96\00:12:13.40 Isaiah chapter 25. 00:12:13.43\00:12:15.83 When it began by laying the foundation. 00:12:15.86\00:12:17.73 Yes, if you're with the Lord, you love His appearing. 00:12:17.77\00:12:22.30 But woe to those who are not with Him. 00:12:22.34\00:12:25.47 Woe to those who are not with Him. 00:12:25.51\00:12:29.54 Yes, verse 9. 00:12:29.58\00:12:31.28 Thank you, Brother Dan. 00:12:31.31\00:12:32.98 Isaiah 25:9, 00:12:33.01\00:12:35.28 when the Day of Judgment comes, 00:12:35.32\00:12:36.99 listen to how the Bible portrays this picture. 00:12:37.02\00:12:41.26 "And it will be said, 'In that day, 00:12:41.29\00:12:45.06 behold, this is,'" together, "'Our God. 00:12:45.09\00:12:49.33 We have waited for Him, and He will,'" do what? 00:12:49.36\00:12:52.73 "'Save us. 00:12:52.77\00:12:54.10 This is the Lord, 00:12:54.14\00:12:55.97 we have waited for Him. 00:12:56.00\00:12:57.47 And we will be,'" what? 00:12:57.51\00:12:59.27 "'Glad and rejoice in His salvation.' " 00:12:59.31\00:13:02.71 Somebody has come to stand up in our behalf. 00:13:02.74\00:13:06.01 And you know why this is going to be said 00:13:06.05\00:13:07.95 is because the saints of all the ages, 00:13:07.98\00:13:10.32 those that have gone through persecution, 00:13:10.35\00:13:12.52 it appears sometimes when you look at... 00:13:12.55\00:13:14.56 Just recently, and I want to just mention this 00:13:14.59\00:13:16.62 in the context of this. 00:13:16.66\00:13:18.76 I think just maybe last week or so, 00:13:18.79\00:13:22.26 the 70th year of the Holocaust was, 00:13:22.30\00:13:26.10 and I don't want to use the word celebrated, 00:13:26.13\00:13:27.60 but it was recognized, you don't celebrate that. 00:13:27.64\00:13:30.41 But the survivors of the Holocaust 00:13:30.44\00:13:33.94 were featured on CNN, 00:13:33.98\00:13:36.24 and we were in Australia down, and then we saw this. 00:13:36.28\00:13:38.95 And it was just day after day after day, 00:13:38.98\00:13:40.82 and they said it was like the 70th anniversary 00:13:40.85\00:13:43.49 of what happened there in Auschwitz. 00:13:43.52\00:13:45.72 And what was so significant about that 00:13:45.75\00:13:47.26 it says because those who have survived, 00:13:47.29\00:13:49.79 many of them are in their 80s, 00:13:49.82\00:13:51.99 and some of them bordering on 90, and they said, 00:13:52.03\00:13:54.63 they don't think that they're going to be around 00:13:54.66\00:13:56.00 for the 80th-year anniversary. 00:13:56.03\00:13:59.27 So it's better that they put a lot of focus 00:13:59.30\00:14:02.60 on this particular event or this particular timeframe. 00:14:02.64\00:14:07.38 When they were liberated from Auschwitz, 00:14:10.38\00:14:13.98 I can imagine them saying, 00:14:14.02\00:14:16.15 "We will be glad and rejoice in our salvation." 00:14:16.18\00:14:20.42 'Cause they were those that were... 00:14:20.46\00:14:22.42 Could have had the same fate as many that lost their lives 00:14:22.46\00:14:25.73 in that terrible camp. 00:14:25.76\00:14:27.63 But when their liberation came, 00:14:27.66\00:14:29.66 they were glad and rejoiced in their salvation. 00:14:29.70\00:14:32.90 So the judgment has a number of reactions to it. 00:14:32.93\00:14:36.71 And I could imagine many of the survivors saying, 00:14:36.74\00:14:39.61 how... Well, let's go to Revelation 6, 00:14:39.64\00:14:42.01 I don't want to... I don't want to say it, 00:14:42.04\00:14:44.05 I want to show it to you, 00:14:44.08\00:14:45.45 okay? 00:14:45.48\00:14:48.02 I want to show it to you, okay? 00:14:48.05\00:14:51.85 Revelation chapter 6. 00:14:51.89\00:14:53.32 Okay. 00:14:56.36\00:14:58.49 And Revelation 6:9 to 11, 00:14:58.53\00:15:04.17 Revelation 6:9 to 11. 00:15:04.20\00:15:07.24 It's terrible as the atrocities were 00:15:07.27\00:15:09.80 at that terrible death camp. 00:15:09.84\00:15:12.07 I could imagine the statement that's going to be 00:15:12.11\00:15:15.04 nestled between verse 9 and verse 11 00:15:15.08\00:15:17.75 is one that many of those 00:15:17.78\00:15:19.65 who are victims or lost family members. 00:15:19.68\00:15:22.05 One was very moving, one guy said, 00:15:22.08\00:15:23.42 "I lost 41 of my 43 family members." 00:15:23.45\00:15:26.96 Forty-one. 00:15:26.99\00:15:28.36 I could imagine this verse. 00:15:28.39\00:15:30.23 Look at verse 9, 00:15:30.26\00:15:32.59 and then we'll go down to verse 10, 00:15:32.63\00:15:35.80 all right? 00:15:35.83\00:15:37.17 "When He opened the fifth seal, 00:15:37.20\00:15:39.47 I saw under the altar, 00:15:39.50\00:15:41.00 the souls of those who had been slain 00:15:41.04\00:15:43.81 for the word of God 00:15:43.84\00:15:45.17 and for the testimony which they held." 00:15:45.21\00:15:48.18 Similar to what Abel's blood crying 00:15:48.21\00:15:51.61 to the Lord from the ground, 00:15:51.65\00:15:53.52 not actual souls, 00:15:53.55\00:15:54.95 but the Lord took note of those who lost their lives. 00:15:54.98\00:15:57.62 And notice what verse 10 brings out, 00:15:57.65\00:16:00.16 "And they cried with a loud voice, saying, 00:16:00.19\00:16:02.39 " what's the next two words? 00:16:02.42\00:16:04.23 "'How long, O Lord, 00:16:04.26\00:16:06.80 holy and true, 00:16:06.83\00:16:09.00 until You,'" what? 00:16:09.03\00:16:11.27 "'Judge and avenge our blood 00:16:11.30\00:16:13.94 on those who dwell on the earth?' " 00:16:13.97\00:16:16.87 So the judgment has a whole lot. 00:16:16.91\00:16:19.17 It's a day of accountability, 00:16:19.21\00:16:21.01 it's a day of reconciliation, 00:16:21.04\00:16:22.38 it's a day when God settles the account 00:16:22.41\00:16:24.85 in behalf of His children. 00:16:24.88\00:16:26.38 And going back to Paul, 00:16:26.41\00:16:27.75 he says, the righteous judge, the saints, 00:16:27.78\00:16:31.19 we have waited for Him, 00:16:31.22\00:16:32.92 but the wicked, 00:16:32.95\00:16:34.29 "Hide us, we don't want to see this moment." 00:16:34.32\00:16:37.16 What a sad day it's going to be. 00:16:37.19\00:16:38.53 They're only going to be two groups. 00:16:38.56\00:16:39.89 So as we've discussed the judgment tonight, 00:16:39.93\00:16:41.60 as we continue on in our discussion, 00:16:41.63\00:16:44.23 it's a sobering topic to consider 00:16:44.27\00:16:48.17 but a blessed one for those who trust in Jesus. 00:16:48.20\00:16:50.94 Now let's look at question number 11. 00:16:50.97\00:16:52.34 Let's go to that one. 00:16:52.37\00:16:53.71 Question number 11. 00:16:53.74\00:16:55.71 And it's on the screen. 00:16:55.74\00:16:57.35 In light of the judgment, 00:16:57.38\00:16:59.21 what are the people of God called to do? 00:16:59.25\00:17:03.08 In light of the judgment, 00:17:03.12\00:17:04.45 what are the people of God called to do? 00:17:04.49\00:17:06.96 2 Corinthians 13:5, 00:17:06.99\00:17:09.72 2 Corinthians 13:5. 00:17:09.76\00:17:13.46 And this is what... 00:17:13.50\00:17:17.10 This action that God calls 00:17:17.13\00:17:19.73 to Christian to participate 00:17:19.77\00:17:22.10 in will keep us in the category 00:17:22.14\00:17:24.87 where we're glad to see the Lord. 00:17:24.91\00:17:28.98 2 Corinthians 13:5, 00:17:29.01\00:17:31.58 and here's the answer. 00:17:31.61\00:17:34.22 Let's read this first one together, it's on the screen. 00:17:34.25\00:17:36.42 The Bible says, 00:17:36.45\00:17:37.79 "Examine yourselves 00:17:37.82\00:17:40.49 as to whether you are in the faith. 00:17:40.52\00:17:43.83 Test yourselves. 00:17:43.86\00:17:46.19 Do you not know yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you? 00:17:46.23\00:17:50.70 Unless indeed, you are disqualified." 00:17:50.73\00:17:54.20 Now why does Jesus Christ not being, 00:17:54.24\00:17:56.30 you know, as disqualify, as Paul says, 00:17:56.34\00:17:58.41 "Christ in you," Christ where? 00:17:58.44\00:18:00.91 "In you is the hope of glory." 00:18:00.94\00:18:03.78 If Christ is not in them, 00:18:03.81\00:18:05.28 they are disqualified. 00:18:05.31\00:18:06.82 And, you know, 00:18:06.85\00:18:08.18 Christ looks at us, 00:18:08.22\00:18:10.15 and He reproduces His character in us. 00:18:10.19\00:18:12.55 If He doesn't see His character in us, 00:18:12.59\00:18:14.52 we are disqualified. 00:18:14.56\00:18:15.89 That means you don't go to the next level. 00:18:15.92\00:18:17.99 That means you don't pass this stage. 00:18:18.03\00:18:20.66 The world is your final stage. 00:18:20.70\00:18:23.93 So the answer is, 00:18:23.97\00:18:25.47 what are we told to do? 00:18:25.50\00:18:27.04 What's your answer? What did you put down? 00:18:27.07\00:18:29.64 Examine yourself, 00:18:29.67\00:18:31.34 test yourself. 00:18:31.37\00:18:32.77 It's important to know where you stand. 00:18:32.81\00:18:34.94 Is Christ in you? 00:18:34.98\00:18:36.54 Is He your hope of glory? 00:18:36.58\00:18:39.25 And then Philippians 2:12. 00:18:39.28\00:18:41.92 Let's look at that one, Philippians 2:12. 00:18:41.95\00:18:45.95 All right. 00:18:45.99\00:18:48.99 Philippians 2:12. 00:18:49.02\00:18:50.63 Paul the Apostle 00:18:50.66\00:18:51.99 wrote so much about the judgment 00:18:52.03\00:18:56.06 because he had his eye-opening experience, 00:18:56.10\00:18:58.63 if I could use that. 00:18:58.67\00:19:00.00 The Lord took his vision briefly, restored it, 00:19:00.04\00:19:03.37 and then from that day on, 00:19:03.41\00:19:05.67 Paul the Apostle became one endeared to Christ. 00:19:05.71\00:19:10.28 I'll read this text and share with you 00:19:10.31\00:19:13.08 how this fits into Paul's relationship 00:19:13.11\00:19:15.32 with Christ. 00:19:15.35\00:19:16.69 But look at Philippians 2:12. 00:19:16.72\00:19:18.19 In light of the judgment, 00:19:18.22\00:19:19.55 what are the people of God called to do? 00:19:19.59\00:19:20.92 And the Bible says, "Therefore, my beloved, 00:19:20.96\00:19:23.59 as you have always obeyed, 00:19:23.63\00:19:26.26 not as in my presence only, 00:19:26.29\00:19:30.37 but now much more in my absence, 00:19:30.40\00:19:33.37 work out your own," what? 00:19:33.40\00:19:36.27 "Salvation with fear and trembling." 00:19:36.30\00:19:40.24 Let me think of it this way. 00:19:40.28\00:19:41.68 And this is probably a small illustration 00:19:41.71\00:19:43.78 compared to the weight of our salvation. 00:19:43.81\00:19:45.95 But when you're about to fly overseas, 00:19:45.98\00:19:48.12 and I'll just use the example, we were recently in Australia. 00:19:48.15\00:19:51.45 As the day is approaching, 00:19:51.49\00:19:53.19 we are checking to make sure everything's in place. 00:19:53.22\00:19:56.93 Do we have that? Do we have that? 00:19:56.96\00:19:59.03 Do we have that? 00:19:59.06\00:20:00.40 Do we have our visa, 00:20:00.43\00:20:01.76 make sure that we have our passports 00:20:01.80\00:20:03.30 before we leave the house 00:20:03.33\00:20:04.87 because certain things have to be 00:20:04.90\00:20:06.63 in order for you to even get on the plane. 00:20:06.67\00:20:09.44 You won't really make your destination. 00:20:09.47\00:20:11.27 So the Lord in essence, saying here, 00:20:11.31\00:20:13.07 that's a moment of working it out, 00:20:13.11\00:20:15.41 a moment of fear and trembling. 00:20:15.44\00:20:17.28 I know of one of our brethren that works here. 00:20:17.31\00:20:20.25 He got all the way almost to St. Louis 00:20:20.28\00:20:22.85 and realized he lost... 00:20:22.88\00:20:24.22 He didn't take his passport. 00:20:24.25\00:20:25.59 Do you think that was a moment of fear and trembling? 00:20:25.62\00:20:27.82 It sure was, 00:20:27.86\00:20:29.26 because he had to come back 00:20:29.29\00:20:30.96 and hightail it back home, 00:20:30.99\00:20:33.16 then turn around and go the same equal distance 00:20:33.19\00:20:35.46 of where he presently was 00:20:35.50\00:20:37.07 and carried all the way. 00:20:37.10\00:20:38.47 Thank the Lord he made it. 00:20:38.50\00:20:39.93 And I would say, 00:20:39.97\00:20:42.74 good thing he didn't meet another judge along the way, 00:20:42.77\00:20:45.97 which could have been 00:20:46.01\00:20:47.34 quite another moment of fear and trembling. 00:20:47.38\00:20:49.24 But the Bible says that we are to work out 00:20:49.28\00:20:51.28 our own salvation. 00:20:51.31\00:20:52.65 What that means is that 00:20:52.68\00:20:54.02 we're not the ones responsible for our salvation, 00:20:54.05\00:20:56.75 but we have to make sure 00:20:56.79\00:20:58.22 that the salvation that we have received 00:20:58.25\00:20:59.82 from Christ is intact. 00:20:59.85\00:21:02.32 As Revelation says, 00:21:02.36\00:21:03.96 "Blessed is he that keeps his garment," 00:21:03.99\00:21:06.70 the garment of righteousness 00:21:06.73\00:21:08.60 is what the Lord is speaking about here, 00:21:08.63\00:21:10.47 that we must keep untattered and unspotted in reference 00:21:10.50\00:21:15.34 to the final judgment. 00:21:15.37\00:21:17.51 Question number 12. 00:21:17.54\00:21:19.71 What admonition 00:21:19.74\00:21:21.28 is given in light of the unavoidable judgment? 00:21:21.31\00:21:25.15 What admonition 00:21:25.18\00:21:26.95 is given in light of the unavoidable judgment? 00:21:26.98\00:21:33.12 A few times, when I was called for jury duty, 00:21:33.15\00:21:35.82 I was able to avoid going, 00:21:35.86\00:21:37.46 and I remember that very well. 00:21:37.49\00:21:39.73 I was in Fairfield, California, 00:21:39.76\00:21:42.13 and I had a trip coming up, 00:21:42.16\00:21:43.50 and it was right at the time, 00:21:43.53\00:21:45.47 and so they said, "Okay, bring your ticket, 00:21:45.50\00:21:47.97 bring your itinerary to the court." 00:21:48.00\00:21:50.17 'Cause a lot of times people make up excuses 00:21:50.21\00:21:53.04 as why they should not appear, 00:21:53.07\00:21:55.54 brought my itinerary, 00:21:55.58\00:21:56.91 and because it was purchased prior 00:21:56.95\00:21:58.55 to the invitation to be a juror, 00:21:58.58\00:22:00.48 they went ahead and allowed me. 00:22:00.52\00:22:01.98 But they said, "You are only allowed three excuses. 00:22:02.02\00:22:04.39 And if you get the third one, 00:22:04.42\00:22:05.75 we don't care what you will be appearing in court." 00:22:05.79\00:22:09.52 And then I read at the bottom 00:22:09.56\00:22:11.39 that you have a certain amount of time in which to respond. 00:22:11.43\00:22:14.10 Have you ever seen that? 00:22:14.13\00:22:15.46 And if you don't respond by that certain time, 00:22:15.50\00:22:18.60 they will put a warrant out for your arrest. 00:22:18.63\00:22:21.40 And I'm thinking, 00:22:21.44\00:22:22.77 I haven't even done anything wrong, 00:22:22.80\00:22:24.61 but they'll serve a warrant 00:22:24.64\00:22:26.91 if you don't respond to be a juror. 00:22:26.94\00:22:28.78 And I'm thinking, "America is tough." 00:22:28.81\00:22:31.81 You're going to help somebody in a trial, 00:22:31.85\00:22:34.12 and if you don't show up, 00:22:34.15\00:22:35.88 they issue a bench warrant. 00:22:35.92\00:22:38.09 Well, you know... Huh? 00:22:38.12\00:22:40.19 You become the one. 00:22:40.22\00:22:42.32 You surely won't appear in court as a juror next time 00:22:42.36\00:22:44.59 because you'll be the defendant. 00:22:44.63\00:22:46.56 I tell you, I responded on time, 00:22:46.59\00:22:48.36 and I've said to people, 00:22:48.40\00:22:49.73 "There are certain notices that you should never ignore. 00:22:49.76\00:22:52.53 If you ignore, there's always some kind of impact to that." 00:22:52.57\00:22:55.37 So look at the answer. 00:22:55.40\00:22:57.84 The unavoidable judgment, James 4:8. 00:22:57.87\00:23:00.44 Here's where the text is found, James 4:8, 00:23:00.48\00:23:02.71 and the Bible reads as follows, 00:23:02.74\00:23:05.41 "Draw near to God," let's say that together. 00:23:05.45\00:23:08.52 "Draw near to God, and He will," what? 00:23:08.55\00:23:12.25 "Draw near to you. 00:23:12.29\00:23:14.69 Cleanse your hands, you sinners, 00:23:14.72\00:23:16.93 and purify your hearts, you," what? 00:23:16.96\00:23:21.56 "Double-minded." 00:23:21.60\00:23:23.43 That's James 4:8, question number 12, 00:23:23.47\00:23:27.27 the first part, James 4:8. 00:23:27.30\00:23:29.94 And the answer is what admonition is given 00:23:29.97\00:23:32.41 in light of the judgment. 00:23:32.44\00:23:33.84 Draw near to God, 00:23:33.88\00:23:35.21 and God will draw near to you. 00:23:35.24\00:23:37.15 The cleansing aspect, 00:23:37.18\00:23:38.68 we often look at the answer as cleanse your hands 00:23:38.71\00:23:41.18 and purify your hearts. 00:23:41.22\00:23:42.78 When you draw near to God, 00:23:42.82\00:23:44.15 you'll know, in comparison, 00:23:44.19\00:23:46.02 you need to cleanse your hands, 00:23:46.05\00:23:47.72 and your heart needs to be pure. 00:23:47.76\00:23:50.36 The responsibility on our part is not... 00:23:50.39\00:23:53.50 Don't focus on the cleansing of the hands first, 00:23:53.53\00:23:55.56 focus on the drawing near to God. 00:23:55.60\00:23:58.63 You never know how dirty you are 00:23:58.67\00:24:00.00 until you stand next to something 00:24:00.04\00:24:01.37 that's a whole lot cleaner than you are, 00:24:01.40\00:24:03.91 right? 00:24:03.94\00:24:05.57 I had on a black suit, 00:24:05.61\00:24:07.14 and my wife had on a nice white sweater. 00:24:07.18\00:24:10.78 And she looks so cute, I put my arm around her. 00:24:10.81\00:24:13.78 And I just sat there during this sermon, 00:24:13.82\00:24:15.42 I just put my arm around her. 00:24:15.45\00:24:16.95 When I removed my arm, 00:24:16.99\00:24:18.32 I was feathered, I was feathered. 00:24:18.35\00:24:21.22 You never know 00:24:21.26\00:24:22.59 how much stuff gets on you 00:24:22.62\00:24:24.06 until you're next to somebody who's a lot cleaner. 00:24:24.09\00:24:26.29 She had on white, I had on black. 00:24:26.33\00:24:28.26 It showed all up. 00:24:28.30\00:24:29.63 And I tell you, that's kind of how it is. 00:24:29.66\00:24:31.57 When we stand next to the Lord, 00:24:31.60\00:24:34.04 we will be able to see in contrast to His purity, 00:24:34.07\00:24:37.47 we'll be able to see the spots on our character. 00:24:37.51\00:24:39.94 So the drawing near to God, 00:24:39.97\00:24:41.51 God is darkness or light? 00:24:41.54\00:24:43.95 Which one is He? Light. 00:24:43.98\00:24:45.35 And I tell you, a lot of stuff shows up in the light. 00:24:45.38\00:24:48.38 That's why in these clubs, they're often dark. 00:24:48.42\00:24:51.19 Places of ill repute, they're dark, 00:24:51.22\00:24:53.39 places of gambling, they're dark. 00:24:53.42\00:24:54.92 If you notice all the focuses of sin, 00:24:54.96\00:24:56.93 they're dark. 00:24:56.96\00:24:58.29 But when you walk in the light as He is in the light, 00:24:58.33\00:25:01.36 you have fellowship with one another, 00:25:01.40\00:25:03.20 and the blood of Jesus Christ, 00:25:03.23\00:25:04.70 His Son, cleanses us from all sin, 00:25:04.73\00:25:07.07 1 John chapter 1, 00:25:07.10\00:25:08.80 I believe it's verse 7. 00:25:08.84\00:25:10.17 So we have to walk in the light, 00:25:10.21\00:25:11.87 then we'll see our condition. 00:25:11.91\00:25:13.24 That's why the drawing near to God 00:25:13.27\00:25:14.91 is so vitally important in the judgment. 00:25:14.94\00:25:17.11 When you draw near, you'll see your need. 00:25:17.15\00:25:18.81 But look at 1 John 3:3, 00:25:18.85\00:25:21.75 1 John 3:3. 00:25:21.78\00:25:23.62 It's the second portion to question number 12. 00:25:23.65\00:25:26.55 1 John 3:3, 00:25:26.59\00:25:29.46 and I'll go ahead and put that on the screen 00:25:29.49\00:25:30.96 for those of you who may be ahead of me already 00:25:30.99\00:25:33.26 'cause you see on the syllabus where we're headed next. 00:25:33.29\00:25:35.86 But here's the answer. 00:25:35.90\00:25:37.23 And the Bible says, 00:25:37.27\00:25:38.60 "And everyone who has this," what? 00:25:38.63\00:25:41.67 "Hope in Him, " that is in Christ, 00:25:41.70\00:25:44.34 "Purifies himself, 00:25:44.37\00:25:46.21 just as He is pure." 00:25:46.24\00:25:49.34 That's an amazing statement. 00:25:49.38\00:25:51.35 It almost sounds like, "Wait a minute, 00:25:51.38\00:25:52.71 why must I purify myself if I am pure?" 00:25:52.75\00:25:55.58 The same thing applies to Peter and Christ. 00:25:55.62\00:25:58.35 Remember when Jesus came and He washed Peter's feet, 00:25:58.39\00:26:01.19 and Peter said, 00:26:01.22\00:26:02.56 "Well, could you just do the whole thing?" 00:26:02.59\00:26:05.39 The Lord says, "Those who are clean 00:26:05.43\00:26:08.63 only need to wash their feet." 00:26:08.66\00:26:10.60 That's the same context. 00:26:10.63\00:26:12.30 The Lord was in essence saying, 00:26:12.33\00:26:14.24 "We already have a relationship, Peter, 00:26:14.27\00:26:16.71 but you're not all clean. 00:26:16.74\00:26:18.47 You got to get it all cleaned up." 00:26:18.51\00:26:20.01 And we all know, after that incident, 00:26:20.04\00:26:22.11 what happened to Peter? 00:26:22.14\00:26:23.55 He denied the Lord 00:26:23.58\00:26:25.81 because there were still areas in his life 00:26:25.85\00:26:27.45 that needed to be cleaned up. 00:26:27.48\00:26:29.18 But let me ask you the question, 00:26:29.22\00:26:30.55 did they get cleaned up after that? 00:26:30.59\00:26:32.25 Yes, because He said to Peter, when you are converted, 00:26:32.29\00:26:35.39 strengthen the brethren. 00:26:35.42\00:26:37.16 And Peter was the spokesperson on the day of Pentecost. 00:26:37.19\00:26:40.93 He was the one telling the Jews what they need to do. 00:26:40.96\00:26:42.96 He said, "Repent," 00:26:43.00\00:26:44.80 because he had purified his heart. 00:26:44.83\00:26:46.63 And nothing sometimes brings you to the place 00:26:46.67\00:26:48.44 of purification. 00:26:48.47\00:26:51.17 Unfortunately, like falling, 00:26:51.21\00:26:53.34 nothing really brings you to the point of your need 00:26:53.38\00:26:56.11 except when you stumble. 00:26:56.14\00:26:58.08 And Peter stumbled in a huge way. 00:26:58.11\00:27:00.42 But I want to make this point of encouragement. 00:27:00.45\00:27:02.98 Even in our stumbling, 00:27:03.02\00:27:04.52 the Lord didn't cast Peter away, 00:27:04.55\00:27:06.72 but Peter met the moment 00:27:06.76\00:27:09.32 where he needed to purify himself. 00:27:09.36\00:27:12.23 And truly, when he was converted, 00:27:12.26\00:27:14.70 the purification took place, 00:27:14.73\00:27:16.20 he was able to strengthen the brethren. 00:27:16.23\00:27:18.43 And, boy, did he preach on the day of Pentecost. 00:27:18.47\00:27:20.14 "Repent, and be converted 00:27:20.17\00:27:22.44 that your sins may be blotted out." 00:27:22.47\00:27:24.37 He understood what that meant very clearly. 00:27:24.41\00:27:26.57 Look at Revelation 16:15, 00:27:26.61\00:27:28.28 the third part to question number 12. 00:27:28.31\00:27:30.25 So the answer in John... 00:27:30.28\00:27:32.88 1 John 3:3 is purify yourself. 00:27:32.91\00:27:36.75 Purify. Stay pure. 00:27:36.79\00:27:39.42 In this world today, 00:27:39.45\00:27:40.86 the devil works on corrupting everything. 00:27:40.89\00:27:44.26 Man, it's not easy to stay pure 00:27:44.29\00:27:46.70 because the music, 00:27:46.73\00:27:48.40 the movies, the television programs, 00:27:48.43\00:27:51.53 the way people dress. 00:27:51.57\00:27:53.44 If you're in some of these major cities, 00:27:53.47\00:27:56.20 I tell you, it's really difficult. 00:27:56.24\00:27:58.31 I don't want to keep talking about Australia too much, 00:27:58.34\00:28:00.28 but some of the portions, 00:28:00.31\00:28:03.55 we were down in Brisbane, Australia, 00:28:03.58\00:28:06.48 and I know they have their own issues too, 00:28:06.51\00:28:08.15 but I said to my wife, I don't... 00:28:08.18\00:28:10.62 I said, "You know what I don't miss? 00:28:10.65\00:28:12.35 I don't miss hearing loud rap music, 00:28:12.39\00:28:15.26 hip-hop. 00:28:15.29\00:28:16.73 I don't miss hearing the... 00:28:16.76\00:28:18.63 at the stoplight." 00:28:18.66\00:28:20.00 And I can almost... 00:28:20.03\00:28:21.43 Here we are in a major city, 00:28:21.46\00:28:23.00 and I'm saying, 00:28:23.03\00:28:24.37 "Did we hear a siren once? 00:28:24.40\00:28:26.37 Maybe I'm not even sure. 00:28:26.40\00:28:29.04 But in some major cities, that's all you hear, 00:28:29.07\00:28:31.41 the loud music, the sirens, the... 00:28:31.44\00:28:34.61 Even out here in quiet little Southern Illinois, 00:28:34.64\00:28:37.25 we could hear the echo of gunshot in the background 00:28:37.28\00:28:39.21 as another deer bites the dust. 00:28:39.25\00:28:41.65 You know, it's just the sounds of earth 00:28:41.68\00:28:44.25 are all around us, 00:28:44.29\00:28:45.75 but the purification is something we know that 00:28:45.79\00:28:48.32 we are all in need of. 00:28:48.36\00:28:50.03 Let's look at this other one. 00:28:50.06\00:28:51.39 What admonition are we given? 00:28:51.43\00:28:53.09 reads as follows, 00:28:53.13\00:28:56.46 "Behold, I am coming as a thief. 00:28:56.50\00:28:59.17 Blessed as he who," does what? 00:28:59.20\00:29:01.60 "Watches and keeps his garments, 00:29:01.64\00:29:05.34 lest he walks," how? 00:29:05.37\00:29:07.21 "Naked and they see his shame." 00:29:07.24\00:29:09.54 So what's the admonition here? 00:29:09.58\00:29:11.68 What would you pick out? 00:29:11.71\00:29:15.32 Watch. 00:29:15.35\00:29:16.69 That's right. Watch. 00:29:16.72\00:29:18.49 Blessed is he who watches. 00:29:18.52\00:29:20.96 When you watch, uh-oh, 00:29:20.99\00:29:22.62 you know the moment. 00:29:22.66\00:29:24.46 You know, you know the moment. 00:29:24.49\00:29:25.83 You're ready when you watch... 00:29:25.86\00:29:28.03 In the terminal, when the plane is coming, 00:29:28.06\00:29:29.53 watch. 00:29:29.56\00:29:30.97 When you're waiting for the mail to come, watch. 00:29:31.00\00:29:33.27 When you know that something is occurring 00:29:33.30\00:29:34.64 that's very important, you watch. 00:29:34.67\00:29:36.27 That's a word of urgency. 00:29:36.30\00:29:38.14 It's not a word of, 00:29:38.17\00:29:39.74 "Huh, I'm waiting." 00:29:39.77\00:29:42.54 Watch. 00:29:42.58\00:29:44.21 And one of the reasons why Jesus gave the word watch, 00:29:44.25\00:29:47.62 He said, "The flesh indeed is..." 00:29:47.65\00:29:51.75 "The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is," what? 00:29:51.79\00:29:54.39 "Weak." 00:29:54.42\00:29:55.76 In Matthew 24, He said that, 00:29:55.79\00:29:57.13 "Watch, for no one knows the day nor the hour." 00:29:57.16\00:30:00.00 Watch, learn the parable of the fig tree. 00:30:00.03\00:30:02.56 Watch. 00:30:02.60\00:30:03.93 If you look at the signs all around us, 00:30:03.97\00:30:05.30 we should be watching, 00:30:05.33\00:30:06.87 watching, and waiting for the coming of our Lord. 00:30:06.90\00:30:09.37 So the answer to Revelation 16:15, 00:30:09.40\00:30:11.37 I'd like to use the word watch 00:30:11.41\00:30:13.61 because the keeping of the garment will occur 00:30:13.64\00:30:15.94 if we are watching. 00:30:15.98\00:30:19.11 Amazing that language is used in Revelation, 00:30:19.15\00:30:22.28 when the garment is what Adam and Eve lost 00:30:22.32\00:30:24.42 in Genesis. 00:30:24.45\00:30:26.15 The Lord does not want us to end up 00:30:26.19\00:30:27.66 like Adam and Eve did, 00:30:27.69\00:30:29.82 He wants us to keep the garments, 00:30:29.86\00:30:32.16 keep the garments. 00:30:32.19\00:30:33.53 They didn't keep their garments, 00:30:33.56\00:30:35.06 and they walked naked. 00:30:35.10\00:30:36.56 And Adam actually said, 00:30:36.60\00:30:39.03 he said, "Why are we hiding?" 00:30:39.07\00:30:41.44 "I was naked, and I was ashamed, 00:30:41.47\00:30:44.64 and I hid myself." 00:30:44.67\00:30:46.74 See those who are hiding themselves 00:30:46.78\00:30:49.14 as we read in Revelation 6:9-11, 00:30:49.18\00:30:52.11 they're hiding themselves from the face of Him 00:30:52.15\00:30:54.95 who sits on the throne. 00:30:54.98\00:30:56.32 Can you tell me why they're hiding? 00:30:56.35\00:30:58.85 Can you tell me why they're hiding? 00:30:58.89\00:31:01.06 'Cause they're naked. 00:31:01.09\00:31:02.42 They don't have the righteousness of Christ. 00:31:02.46\00:31:04.66 The same reason why when Jesus came 00:31:04.69\00:31:06.26 to the marriage supper, and he saw a man, he's, 00:31:06.29\00:31:08.50 "How have you come in here without a wedding garment?" 00:31:08.53\00:31:12.10 And what did they do? 00:31:12.13\00:31:13.47 He's naked, 00:31:13.50\00:31:14.84 can't stay, got to go. 00:31:14.87\00:31:17.01 We have to have on Christ's righteousness 00:31:17.04\00:31:20.01 to make it through the judgment. 00:31:20.04\00:31:21.38 Amen. 00:31:21.41\00:31:22.74 Let's go to question number 13. 00:31:22.78\00:31:24.61 Question number 13, 00:31:24.65\00:31:28.72 "Why is it imperative 00:31:28.75\00:31:30.19 that we keep our lives clean before God?" 00:31:30.22\00:31:34.99 Clean before God. 00:31:35.02\00:31:37.16 Imperative. 00:31:37.19\00:31:39.03 Why is it imperative? 00:31:39.06\00:31:40.70 You know, the word imperative means absolutely necessary, 00:31:40.73\00:31:46.27 means unequivocal, 00:31:46.30\00:31:48.00 means if there's anything you got to do, 00:31:48.04\00:31:51.24 this is it. 00:31:51.27\00:31:52.77 Okay, here it is. 00:31:52.81\00:31:54.14 Psalms 24:3, 4. 00:31:54.18\00:31:57.45 Psalms 24:3, 4. 00:31:57.48\00:32:01.88 All right, here's the answer. 00:32:01.92\00:32:04.32 Bible says, "Who..." 00:32:04.35\00:32:07.02 Notice the question, 00:32:07.06\00:32:08.46 "Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? 00:32:08.49\00:32:13.60 Or who may stand in His holy place?" 00:32:13.63\00:32:18.90 What's the answer? 00:37:11.33\00:37:14.16 "So are we in this world." 00:37:14.20\00:37:16.23 You know what that talks about? 00:37:16.26\00:37:17.60 That talks about similarity. 00:37:17.63\00:37:18.97 If we're living like Christ, 00:37:19.00\00:37:20.50 we don't have to wait to be like Him 00:37:20.54\00:37:21.87 because as He is, so are we. 00:37:21.90\00:37:23.74 A lot of times, people say, 00:37:23.77\00:37:25.11 "Well, I can't wait till Jesus comes, 00:37:25.14\00:37:26.47 I'll be just like Him." 00:37:26.51\00:37:27.84 Well, this text says, you already are like Him. 00:37:27.88\00:37:30.91 You're just waiting to meet Him. 00:37:30.95\00:37:33.28 Another text in 1 John 3:1, 2, 00:37:33.31\00:37:37.22 Paul, I mean, John the Apostle says it again, 00:37:37.25\00:37:39.55 as he is, "Brethren, now... 00:37:39.59\00:37:41.62 Beloved, now are we the children of God." 00:37:41.66\00:37:44.49 We are His children now. 00:37:44.53\00:37:45.86 We are like Him now in this present world. 00:37:45.89\00:37:48.10 So let's put the answer down. 00:37:48.13\00:37:49.80 In preparation for the judgment, 00:37:49.83\00:37:51.17 where can we find deliverance? 00:37:51.20\00:37:53.74 In Him. 00:37:53.77\00:37:55.40 That's right. 00:37:55.44\00:37:56.77 We can find deliverance in Him 00:37:56.81\00:37:59.81 that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment 00:37:59.84\00:38:01.71 because as He is, so are we in this. 00:38:01.74\00:38:04.91 We find deliverance in Him. 00:38:04.95\00:38:07.65 And by the way, 00:38:07.68\00:38:09.12 the deliverance comes through His perfect love. 00:38:09.15\00:38:12.45 I was reading a devotion from Oswald Chambers. 00:38:12.49\00:38:15.72 And it was just so beautiful, I never thought of it that way. 00:38:15.76\00:38:18.59 And he narrowed down the text, 00:38:18.63\00:38:20.53 the love of Christ constraineth us. 00:38:20.56\00:38:23.37 Now we know the text is longer than that. 00:38:23.40\00:38:24.97 But he says, "The love of Christ constrainteth us." 00:38:25.00\00:38:27.60 And as I was reading through that, 00:38:27.64\00:38:29.97 it finally clicked on me that 00:38:30.01\00:38:32.07 what he mean by constrain. 00:38:32.11\00:38:34.21 Now let me use the illustration. 00:38:34.24\00:38:35.78 "Because love has been perfected among us," 00:38:35.81\00:38:37.91 in this, the word love is introduced there. 00:38:37.95\00:38:40.42 Let's expand the word 00:38:40.45\00:38:42.08 and help understand what the constraining part is. 00:38:42.12\00:38:46.12 If love constrains us, 00:38:46.15\00:38:50.09 let's think of the word restrain for a brief moment 00:38:50.13\00:38:53.70 and use them in a similar comparison. 00:38:53.73\00:38:56.23 If you're passing by a dog, 00:38:56.26\00:38:57.77 and he's on a chain, and he's vicious, 00:38:57.80\00:39:00.27 why can't he bite you? 00:39:00.30\00:39:02.40 Somebody tell me. 00:39:02.44\00:39:04.34 Because he's restrained by the chain. 00:39:04.37\00:39:07.44 Does he want to do it? 00:39:07.48\00:39:08.94 Yes or no? Yes. 00:39:08.98\00:39:10.35 He's given you every indication, 00:39:10.38\00:39:11.71 the growling, the biting, the snarling of teeth, 00:39:11.75\00:39:13.92 the scratching of the ground. 00:39:13.95\00:39:15.48 In other words, he's saying, "If this chain were not here, 00:39:15.52\00:39:18.75 oh boy, you would be in trouble." 00:39:18.79\00:39:20.99 Now the Lord does not chain us, does he? 00:39:21.02\00:39:24.06 But let me tell you what, 00:39:24.09\00:39:25.43 how beautiful this came to me, 00:39:25.46\00:39:26.80 and I was sharing this with my wife. 00:39:26.83\00:39:28.16 We read this before we went to bed. 00:39:28.20\00:39:30.03 And I thought, "Wow! 00:39:30.07\00:39:31.57 I've heard about God's love, 00:39:31.60\00:39:32.93 but now this gives me a new dimension." 00:39:32.97\00:39:34.30 You know, even after 28 years of pastoring, 00:39:34.34\00:39:36.30 you can still learn something new about God's love. 00:39:36.34\00:39:39.57 Oftentimes, we think of God's love 00:39:39.61\00:39:40.94 is just some kind of little emotional. 00:39:40.98\00:39:42.78 "Oh, I love you. 00:39:42.81\00:39:44.15 Oh, this is powerful." 00:39:44.18\00:39:47.18 But Oswald Chambers said, 00:39:47.22\00:39:48.72 "The love of Christ constrains us." 00:39:48.75\00:39:50.69 And he described it this way. 00:39:50.72\00:39:52.05 He says, 00:39:52.09\00:39:54.39 "We are so captivated by the love of God 00:39:54.42\00:39:59.03 that we don't need a chain to stop us from doing wrong." 00:39:59.06\00:40:03.47 It says, "The love of God has so gripped us," 00:40:03.50\00:40:07.14 he says, "Have you been gripped by the love of God." 00:40:07.17\00:40:10.21 You see, we often love God for what He does for us. 00:40:10.24\00:40:13.07 But he said, "That's not the love that constrains us, 00:40:13.11\00:40:16.24 that's the love that keeps us coming to Him 00:40:16.28\00:40:18.41 because you've done something for it." 00:40:18.45\00:40:19.78 "Oh, I love being around you. Why? 00:40:19.81\00:40:21.15 'Cause you always buy me something. 00:40:21.18\00:40:22.65 Well, I love it when you show up 00:40:22.68\00:40:24.02 because I always have some fun." 00:40:24.05\00:40:25.39 But that's not the love that's talked about here. 00:40:25.42\00:40:27.22 It's a constraining love, 00:40:27.26\00:40:28.59 meaning I am so in love with Christ 00:40:28.62\00:40:30.96 that I can't imagine 00:40:30.99\00:40:33.86 doing something to hurt Him, 00:40:33.90\00:40:36.16 that I can't imagine... 00:40:36.20\00:40:37.53 Beautiful example is Joseph and part of his wife. 00:40:37.57\00:40:41.07 He says, "How?" 00:40:41.10\00:40:43.94 But he said, 00:40:43.97\00:40:45.41 "How can I do this great wickedness and" what, 00:40:45.44\00:40:49.54 "sin against God?" 00:40:49.58\00:40:50.91 That's a perfect example 00:40:50.95\00:40:52.28 of the constraining love of God. 00:40:52.31\00:40:54.42 He said, 00:40:54.45\00:40:55.78 "I know if I were to appeal to my human feelings, 00:40:55.82\00:40:59.62 this is a good situation. 00:40:59.65\00:41:01.52 But I'm so restrained by God, 00:41:01.56\00:41:04.89 I can't do this." 00:41:04.93\00:41:06.59 He's not saying, "I don't want to do this." 00:41:06.63\00:41:08.46 Or "I can't do this." 00:41:08.50\00:41:10.03 He's saying, "How can I do this? 00:41:10.07\00:41:12.33 How can I? 00:41:12.37\00:41:13.70 God loves me so much, how can I do this? 00:41:13.74\00:41:15.40 All that He's done for me? 00:41:15.44\00:41:16.77 How can I? I can't even fathom." 00:41:16.81\00:41:19.11 So when you love God, 00:41:19.14\00:41:22.21 that's what it means by, 00:41:22.24\00:41:23.58 "Love has been," what's the next word? 00:41:23.61\00:41:25.75 "Perfected among us in this." 00:41:25.78\00:41:29.08 So we're not looking forward to... 00:41:29.12\00:41:30.75 We look forward to the Day of Judgment 00:41:30.79\00:41:32.15 because we love the Lord so much. 00:41:32.19\00:41:33.99 We have lived our lives 00:41:34.02\00:41:35.42 that the end of the verse is very true. 00:41:35.46\00:41:37.83 "As He is," what? 00:41:37.86\00:41:39.19 "So are we in this world." 00:41:39.23\00:41:40.96 His love is perfect, 00:41:41.00\00:41:42.33 and it has been perfected in us. 00:41:42.36\00:41:44.67 We can't think of doing anything 00:41:44.70\00:41:46.94 to offend and crucify the Son of God afresh. 00:41:46.97\00:41:50.51 And I tell you, 00:41:50.54\00:41:51.87 that's a serious area of growth for so many Christians. 00:41:51.91\00:41:54.58 Do you love the Lord 00:41:54.61\00:41:55.94 because He asked you to do things that you like 00:41:55.98\00:41:58.75 or you're comfortable to do right now? 00:41:58.78\00:42:00.68 Or are you so constrained by His love that you're saying, 00:42:00.72\00:42:02.82 "Lord, just whatever. 00:42:02.85\00:42:04.85 What can I render toward You? 00:42:04.89\00:42:07.36 What can I render to You 00:42:07.39\00:42:08.72 for all Your benefits towards me? 00:42:08.76\00:42:10.33 What can I do? Just tell me." 00:42:10.36\00:42:12.59 Anyway, 00:42:12.63\00:42:14.20 my little sermon, sermon number three, 00:42:14.23\00:42:16.87 "But the love of Christ constrains us." 00:42:16.90\00:42:18.30 And that's why this text jumps out at me 00:42:18.33\00:42:19.83 'cause the word love 00:42:19.87\00:42:21.20 has taken on a different meaning altogether. 00:42:21.24\00:42:22.77 Why don't you do what you do? Because I love the Lord. 00:42:22.80\00:42:25.27 People say, "Now really give me another reason." 00:42:25.31\00:42:28.14 What better reason could there be? 00:42:28.18\00:42:29.51 Amen. 00:42:29.54\00:42:30.88 There should be no other reason. 00:42:30.91\00:42:32.25 Why do you serve God?
