the purpose of the judgment,

"Well, why would the Lord

want to have a judgment anyway?"

Anytime a person is called
to a judgment or to court,

it is for the
purpose of examination.

In other words, the purpose,

the person may be
accused of something

or may be guilty of something.

In some cases, they
may have gotten something

as simple as a traffic ticket

or some kind of
parking violation.

It can go all the way up to,

unfortunately,
murder or homicide.

Any particular crime

can cause us to
appear before a court.

In the context of
this particular verse,

though, 1 Peter 4:17,

the Bible lets us know
00:05:35.40\00:05:36.73
where the
judgment is going to begin.

Now the reason why
it's gonna begin here,

and you'll see this as we
go further through the lesson,

is because

"If you're not
claiming to be connected to me,

then there's really no reason
for me to examine what you do.

And if there is no relationship,

expect anything from you."

But because
there is a relationship

and there is an expectation
in that relationship,

the Lord begins
with those who claim

to have a relationship with Him.

For example, I
will not expect anything

from any other woman

we have a relationship.

If she asks something of
me or I ask something of her,

we have a relationship
obligation to fulfill

because we made a
covenant with each other.

In the very same way, we
made a covenant with God,

relationship obligation.

So to say I have a relationship

but I'm not
fulfilling the obligations

of that relationship,

whether or not my declaration
is in harmony with my actions.

So let's look at 1 Peter 4:17,
and notice what the Bible says.

"For the time has come

for judgment to begin at the,"
where, "at the house of God.

And if it begins with us first,

what will be the end
of those who do not obey

the gospel of God?"

And look at verse 18.

"Now if the righteous
one is scarcely saved,

where will the ungodly
and the sinner appear?"

You know, when
I read that verse,

that says the
word "scarcely saved,"
00:07:16.26\00:07:18.90
I think of, my wife and
I, a number of years ago,

on our way to
Australia, and we were going
00:07:22.20\00:07:24.71
but we did not
know we needed a visa.
00:07:24.74\00:07:27.78
And what that means in America
is you have to have a visa,
00:07:27.81\00:07:30.88
not a credit card,
but a country visa to get
00:07:30.91\00:07:33.52
into certain
places around the world.
00:07:33.55\00:07:35.12
And we lived in
California at the time.
00:07:35.15\00:07:37.39
And when we got to the airport,

the ticket
counter, the agent said,

"Where's your visa?"
00:07:41.26\00:07:42.82
We said, "We don't have a visa."
00:07:42.86\00:07:44.96
They said, "Well,
you cannot gonna go
00:07:44.99\00:07:46.33
to Australia without a visa."
00:07:46.36\00:07:48.30
I said, "Well, how
could we get a visa?"
00:07:48.33\00:07:49.90
They said, "Well,
you could wait till
00:07:49.93\00:07:51.27
Monday morning."
00:07:51.30\00:07:52.63
I said, "It's already
a day ahead in Australia,

and I'm the speaker
there and I have to be there

by a certain time, I
need to leave today."

They said, "We'll,
you're not going to Australia.
00:07:59.21\00:08:01.18
You could leave,
00:08:01.21\00:08:02.54
but the furthest
you're gonna get is Hawaii."

I said, "Well, is
there a consulate in Hawaii?
00:08:04.78\00:08:06.82
American embassy?"
00:08:06.85\00:08:08.18
They said, "Yes."
00:08:08.22\00:08:09.62
They said, "But the chances
are you might not get it."

I said, "Well, if
I'm gonna be stuck,

I want to be stuck in Hawaii."

And so I said,

"Is there an
Australian embassy?"

They said, "Yes,
there's one there."

I said, "Okay, great."

So we went there,
and praise the Lord,

in a matter of five hours
before our next flight left,

because it was a long layover,
we were able to get our visa.

But here's the point.

We scarcely got on that plane
because we stood at the counter

and tried to convince the agent,

"Please let us on the plane."

She said, "Why?

You don't have a
visa, you can't go."

I said, "We'll chance it."
00:08:43.92\00:08:47.02
And we chanced
it, we got to Hawaii,

praise the Lord.
00:08:48.96\00:08:50.29
So we were the last
ones to get on board.

We scarcely made
it on that plane.
00:08:52.33\00:08:54.40
When we got on there,
perspiring and out of breath...

We were in coach,
00:08:58.23\00:08:59.57
we were not even in first class.

But only those in first class
are offered something to drink

before the plane takes off.

But the flight attendant
who's looking at us says,

"Would you like
something to drink?"

We went, "Yes."

We were
exhausted, we barely made it.

But now if we,
who are on the plane,

who are on the ticket manifest,
scarcely make it on board,

what about those

whose names are
not on the manifest?

They're not gonna make it.
00:09:24.56\00:09:26.36
So this is why the judgment
begins at the house of God,

their names are on the manifest,

and the manifest, in this
case, is the Book of Life.

And if we who are
on the Book of Life

scarcely make it,

what will those whose names
are not on the Book of Life,

where will they appear?

They won't appear

side of the judgment.

their destination.

The purpose of this
lesson is to find confidence

that we are on the
right side of the wall,

that we are in
the proper standing

so that when the
judgment is over,

or not they can make it."

Right now the Lord is saying

that we need to clean
our own mirrors, amen?

We need to examine our own lives

to see what's in there,

going on in our hearts.

I remember, a
number of years ago,

there was a test being
held that I could not go to

held on Sabbath morning.

I saw it, it was being

and I wasn't gonna
go to take the test,

it was an SAT.

And so I got a
permission to not take the test

that particular day.

Another day was chosen for me.

And when I came
to take the test,

I was the only one there.

examiner, and there was just me,

whole big classroom.

Now when the test was taken

It's almost like when
people become Christians,

not a blanket statement,

but so many
Christians become minimalist.

Now what I mean by that
is they want to do the least

it takes to be
saved rather than saying,

"What can I render to the Lord

for all His
benefits towards me?"

You know, somebody is as
good to us as the Lord is,

you don't say,

"What's the least I
could do to be saved?"

You say, "Lord,
just tell me, whatever...
00:14:25.29\00:14:27.26
What do you want me to do?"

If somebody has
paid for your sin,

if somebody is
building you a mansion,
00:14:31.37\00:14:33.74
at his cost, if somebody
is offering you eternal life,

if somebody is saying,
"You'll never be sick again,

you'll never worry
about death and heartache

and hunger and suffering,

Now if Donald Trump
said, "I'll buy you a house,"
