00:01:58.28\00:01:59.61 Victory in... 00:01:59.65\00:02:00.98 Victory in Jesus. 00:02:01.02\00:02:02.35 Join us tonight as we sing our theme song together. 00:02:02.38\00:02:05.42 I heard an old, old story 00:02:12.23\00:02:15.76 How the Savior came from glory 00:02:16.77\00:02:19.53 How He gave His life on Calvary 00:02:19.57\00:02:23.14 To save a wretch like me 00:02:23.17\00:02:27.24 I heard about His groaning 00:02:27.28\00:02:30.88 Of His precious blood's atoning 00:02:30.91\00:02:34.72 Then I repented of my sins 00:02:34.75\00:02:38.55 And won the victory 00:02:38.59\00:02:42.32 O victory in Jesus 00:02:42.36\00:02:46.03 My Savior, forever 00:02:46.06\00:02:49.73 He sought me and bought me 00:02:49.76\00:02:53.54 With His redeeming blood 00:02:53.57\00:02:57.41 He loved me ere I knew Him 00:02:57.44\00:03:01.21 And all my love is due Him 00:03:01.24\00:03:05.01 He plunged me to victory 00:03:05.05\00:03:08.78 Beneath the cleansing flood 00:03:08.82\00:03:12.55 I heard about a mansion 00:03:12.59\00:03:16.29 He has built for me in glory 00:03:16.32\00:03:20.10 And I heard about the streets of gold 00:03:20.13\00:03:23.77 Beyond the crystal sea 00:03:23.80\00:03:27.60 About the angels singing 00:03:27.64\00:03:31.37 And the old redemption story 00:03:31.41\00:03:35.04 And some sweet day I'll sing up there 00:03:35.08\00:03:39.01 The song of victory 00:03:39.05\00:03:41.42 Key change. 00:03:41.45\00:03:42.82 O victory in Jesus 00:03:42.85\00:03:46.52 My Savior, forever 00:03:46.55\00:03:50.23 He sought me and bought me 00:03:50.26\00:03:53.96 With His redeeming blood 00:03:54.00\00:03:57.77 He loved me ere I knew Him 00:03:57.80\00:04:01.54 And all my love is due Him 00:04:01.57\00:04:05.41 He plunged me to victory 00:04:05.44\00:04:09.28 Beneath the cleansing flood 00:04:09.31\00:04:12.91 He plunged me to victory 00:04:12.95\00:04:16.58 Beneath the cleansing flood 00:04:16.62\00:04:23.16 Amen? 00:04:23.19\00:04:24.53 Amen. 00:04:24.56\00:04:25.89 The topic tonight, "The Truth about Hell." 00:04:25.93\00:04:30.93 What does the Bible say about Hell? 00:04:30.97\00:04:34.97 Now there's some good news that the Bible has about Hell. 00:04:35.00\00:04:37.77 And the good news is 00:04:37.81\00:04:39.14 it's not a place for the righteous. 00:04:39.17\00:04:40.58 What do you say? 00:04:40.61\00:04:41.94 The righteous will not end up in Hell. 00:04:41.98\00:04:43.85 It is the place for sin to be destroyed, 00:04:43.88\00:04:46.65 for Satan and his angels to be destroyed, 00:04:46.68\00:04:49.35 and unfortunately the third component 00:04:49.38\00:04:51.32 is for sinners that never accept Christ 00:04:51.35\00:04:54.29 to be destroyed. 00:04:54.32\00:04:56.16 Now tonight, we're gonna be dealing with a parable. 00:04:56.19\00:04:59.29 A what? Parable. 00:04:59.33\00:05:00.76 A parable. 00:05:00.80\00:05:02.16 One of the most confusing stories in the Bible 00:05:02.20\00:05:05.03 really is a parable 00:05:05.07\00:05:07.30 and many people use this parable 00:05:07.34\00:05:09.17 to build a teaching about Hell on this parable. 00:05:09.20\00:05:13.07 It's found in the Book of Luke. 00:05:13.11\00:05:15.24 Luke Chapter 16. 00:05:15.28\00:05:18.31 We're going to consider this parable tonight 00:05:18.35\00:05:20.15 and the different components of it. 00:05:20.18\00:05:22.48 And the question is Luke 16 is a parable, 00:05:22.52\00:05:24.95 not an actual account of the dead and the living. 00:05:24.99\00:05:30.36 It's not an actual account, it's a parable. 00:05:30.39\00:05:33.80 Now as we go to Luke, what I want you to do, 00:05:33.83\00:05:36.33 I'm gonna go there now, 00:05:36.36\00:05:37.70 turning in my Bible's to Luke Chapter 16. 00:05:37.73\00:05:40.80 Luke Chapter 16 is followed by a number of parables 00:05:40.84\00:05:46.27 that are recorded in the Bible. 00:05:46.31\00:05:48.61 Matter of fact, if you go to Luke Chapter 14, 00:05:48.64\00:05:52.58 the parables, he actually go further back than that. 00:05:52.61\00:05:55.95 Let me go to Luke Chapter 12, 00:05:55.98\00:05:58.92 Luke Chapter 11. 00:05:58.95\00:06:03.16 Let's just look at Luke Chapter 11. 00:06:03.19\00:06:05.13 This was the time where Jesus not just point out 00:06:05.16\00:06:07.26 a couple of things, 00:06:07.30\00:06:08.63 what I want you to see is the trend. 00:06:08.66\00:06:11.97 What's the word that I used there? 00:06:12.00\00:06:13.67 It's a trend. 00:06:13.70\00:06:15.04 Jesus is teaching, 00:06:15.07\00:06:16.40 He's on the Mount of Olives teaching 00:06:16.44\00:06:18.04 and He's going from one parable to the other. 00:06:18.07\00:06:21.81 And the reason why He uses 00:06:21.84\00:06:23.18 the parable of the rich man and Lazarus 00:06:23.21\00:06:25.48 is there's a particular teaching 00:06:25.51\00:06:27.65 that the Jews began to accept, 00:06:27.68\00:06:30.75 and we call that today Neo-Platonism. 00:06:30.79\00:06:35.36 They began to believe 00:06:35.39\00:06:36.73 as the Greeks taught that the body, 00:06:36.76\00:06:39.49 the soul and the spirit were three separate entities. 00:06:39.53\00:06:44.83 And so in conjunction with this teaching, 00:06:44.87\00:06:47.47 let me lay some foundation. 00:06:47.50\00:06:49.40 The reason why Jesus came to Martha and Mary 00:06:49.44\00:06:53.24 after four days 00:06:53.27\00:06:55.14 is because along with His teaching, 00:06:55.18\00:06:57.45 the Jews embraced this Neo-Platonistic view 00:06:57.48\00:06:59.85 that if a person died, for three days, 00:06:59.88\00:07:03.35 the soul was like a mosquito against the glass window. 00:07:03.39\00:07:08.12 The soul they believed is not supported by scripture. 00:07:08.16\00:07:11.03 They believed the soul tried to get back into the body. 00:07:11.06\00:07:14.46 And if it was successful, 00:07:14.50\00:07:15.96 then they believe the person came to life. 00:07:16.00\00:07:18.10 Now the reason why they had this issues 00:07:18.13\00:07:19.50 because Jesus has raised the dead. 00:07:19.53\00:07:23.44 Jesus had given life 00:07:23.47\00:07:25.84 on more than one occasion to somebody who had been dead. 00:07:25.87\00:07:29.21 And they thought, "No, they could not possibly be." 00:07:29.24\00:07:32.21 So this must be... 00:07:32.25\00:07:35.12 The theory must be true that people come back to life 00:07:35.15\00:07:38.09 if the soul was successful in getting back into the body. 00:07:38.12\00:07:41.49 So Jesus stayed away for four days to prove 00:07:41.52\00:07:47.03 that He is the resurrection and the life. 00:07:47.06\00:07:49.50 Can we say amen to that? 00:07:49.53\00:07:51.03 He's the resurrection and life exists in Him. 00:07:51.07\00:07:55.07 John 1, "In Him was life 00:07:55.10\00:07:56.91 and that life was the light of men." 00:07:56.94\00:07:58.84 Jesus is in fact, He doesn't, He hasn't borrowed life, 00:07:58.87\00:08:03.14 He has life unborrowed, underived. 00:08:03.18\00:08:05.88 He's not a created being, He is the creator. 00:08:05.91\00:08:10.32 But if you look at Luke 11:33, 00:08:10.35\00:08:15.69 if your Bible has headings, 00:08:15.72\00:08:17.83 Luke 11:33 begins the Parable of the Lighted Lamp. 00:08:17.86\00:08:23.60 Then, I'm gonna move quickly here. 00:08:23.63\00:08:25.33 Then Luke 12:13 00:08:25.37\00:08:30.27 begins the Parable of the Rich Fool. 00:08:30.31\00:08:33.78 See, that's how the Bible talks about that. 00:08:33.81\00:08:35.78 Matter of fact, Luke 12:16 says, 00:08:35.81\00:08:38.18 "Then He spoke a parable to them, saying," right? 00:08:38.21\00:08:41.55 Then you go to Luke, 00:08:41.58\00:08:43.59 the same chapter down to verse 35. 00:08:43.62\00:08:46.42 And there's the Parable of the Expected, 00:08:46.45\00:08:48.72 the Expectant Steward. 00:08:48.76\00:08:51.16 And sometimes Jesus speaks parables, 00:08:51.19\00:08:53.06 but He doesn't say it's a parable. 00:08:53.09\00:08:55.83 But the language of the story itself 00:08:55.86\00:08:57.93 lends itself to a parable 00:08:57.97\00:08:59.73 because and here's how you know about a parable. 00:08:59.77\00:09:02.77 It teaches us a lesson, 00:09:02.80\00:09:04.77 but the actual of facts themselves 00:09:04.81\00:09:07.14 cannot really happen in true life. 00:09:07.18\00:09:09.91 For example Jeremiah. 00:09:09.94\00:09:11.31 Jeremiah talked about, he saw trees walking. 00:09:11.35\00:09:14.28 Let me ask you the question. 00:09:14.32\00:09:15.65 Is that an actual account or parable? 00:09:15.68\00:09:18.32 It's a parable because trees don't walk. 00:09:18.35\00:09:22.02 Let's look at another one. 00:09:22.06\00:09:24.73 The same chapter, Luke 12:41. 00:09:24.76\00:09:28.23 There's another parable. 00:09:28.26\00:09:30.27 "Peter said to Him, 'Lord, 00:09:30.30\00:09:31.63 do You speak this parable only to us, 00:09:31.67\00:09:33.84 or to all the people?" 00:09:33.87\00:09:35.34 He began to speak of the faithful steward. 00:09:35.37\00:09:37.74 We're now getting closer to the chapter 00:09:37.77\00:09:39.11 where we're headed. 00:09:39.14\00:09:40.48 Go to Chapter 14. 00:09:40.51\00:09:41.91 I'm not gonna give you all of them, 00:09:41.94\00:09:43.28 but just to kind of give you 00:09:43.31\00:09:44.65 the pattern here or the cadence. 00:09:44.68\00:09:46.05 Luke 14:5, 00:09:46.08\00:09:48.12 Jesus began the Parable of the Ambitious Guest. 00:09:48.15\00:09:51.22 And then in Luke 14:15, 00:09:51.25\00:09:54.42 the Parable of the Great Supper. 00:09:54.46\00:09:57.63 Then Luke 15:1, 00:09:57.66\00:10:00.56 the Parable of the Lost Sheep. 00:10:00.60\00:10:03.77 Then what follows the lost sheep, the lost coin. 00:10:03.80\00:10:07.37 Then the lost son. 00:10:07.40\00:10:09.74 Now which is most likely to be true, 00:10:09.77\00:10:11.74 the lost sheep or the lost coin or the lost son? 00:10:11.77\00:10:15.81 The lost son. 00:10:15.84\00:10:17.18 It's most likely to be an actual account, 00:10:17.21\00:10:19.01 but once again it is the parable. 00:10:19.05\00:10:20.98 That's why it's called... 00:10:21.02\00:10:22.35 And everything about that parable can be true. 00:10:22.38\00:10:25.05 But Jesus said this is a parable, 00:10:25.09\00:10:26.76 He spoke a parable about a certain man 00:10:26.79\00:10:29.12 who had a younger son 00:10:29.16\00:10:30.49 and you know the story from there. 00:10:30.53\00:10:32.16 Then 16:1, 00:10:32.19\00:10:34.30 we're getting close to the story for tonight. 00:10:34.33\00:10:36.53 Verse 1, he begins to speak 00:10:36.56\00:10:38.53 of the Parable of the Unjust Servant. 00:10:38.57\00:10:41.67 Then, we come up on the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus. 00:10:41.70\00:10:47.48 Now here is the beautiful foundation. 00:10:47.51\00:10:49.48 We've got to understand 00:10:49.51\00:10:50.85 who this parable is referring to, right? 00:10:50.88\00:10:53.92 Amen? 00:10:53.95\00:10:55.28 If you understand 00:10:55.32\00:10:56.65 who Jesus is speaking the parable to, 00:10:56.69\00:10:58.39 then the parable's gonna make sense. 00:10:58.42\00:11:00.59 For example if I said, 00:11:00.62\00:11:02.92 you know there was a little boy, 00:11:02.96\00:11:04.56 and I'm telling this parable to a son 00:11:04.59\00:11:07.06 or a group of little boys. 00:11:07.10\00:11:08.56 Now there was a little young boy 00:11:08.60\00:11:11.50 who came and he stole a nickel, 00:11:11.53\00:11:13.90 and the nickel cried out, "Don't steal me." 00:11:13.94\00:11:17.21 And everybody's eyes are glued, 00:11:17.24\00:11:18.97 the little boy's eyes are glued 00:11:19.01\00:11:20.88 because that little nickel knew he was being stolen. 00:11:20.91\00:11:24.01 And that little boy ran as fast as he could 00:11:24.05\00:11:25.81 so the voice of the nickel could not be 00:11:25.85\00:11:27.78 heard by the person that heard it. 00:11:27.82\00:11:31.45 And he followed the sound of that nickel, 00:11:31.49\00:11:33.46 and the man found the nickel 00:11:33.49\00:11:34.99 and he found the boy who stole the nickel. 00:11:35.02\00:11:37.83 And then they say, 00:11:37.86\00:11:40.00 "So what are you saying to us, nickels talk?" 00:11:40.03\00:11:42.43 Do nickels talk, yes or no? 00:11:42.46\00:11:43.80 No. 00:11:43.83\00:11:45.17 But what I'm saying is, 00:11:45.20\00:11:46.53 you will be discovered if you are a thief, 00:11:46.57\00:11:48.44 you will be found out. 00:11:48.47\00:11:50.47 That's my short little parable. 00:11:50.51\00:11:52.54 But notice in verse 14, 00:11:52.57\00:11:54.04 who Jesus is speaking to 00:11:54.08\00:11:57.08 as He leads up to this particular parable. 00:11:57.11\00:12:00.55 He addresses, well, you'll get the group. 00:12:00.58\00:12:03.22 Luke 16:14, notice what the Bible says, 00:12:03.25\00:12:06.02 "Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of," what? 00:12:06.05\00:12:09.59 "Money, also heard all these things, 00:12:09.62\00:12:13.29 and they derided Him." 00:12:13.33\00:12:15.16 Because in the verse before that, Jesus said, 00:12:16.13\00:12:17.93 "You can't serve God and man." 00:12:17.97\00:12:19.37 You can't serve money. 00:12:19.40\00:12:20.97 Now some people will have a hard time at that. 00:12:21.00\00:12:22.74 That's why it says, 00:12:22.77\00:12:24.11 it's hard for wealthy man 00:12:24.14\00:12:25.47 to get through the eye of the needle. 00:12:25.51\00:12:26.84 Because when people put money ahead of God, 00:12:26.88\00:12:28.71 and unfortunately the Pharisees had done the same thing. 00:12:28.74\00:12:32.88 See, through the eye of a needle, right. 00:12:32.91\00:12:35.62 It's easier for camel 00:12:35.65\00:12:36.99 to go through the eye of the needle. 00:12:37.02\00:12:38.35 Thank you, honey. 00:12:38.39\00:12:39.72 And so in this case, let's go to verse 15, 00:12:39.75\00:12:41.92 "And He said to them, 00:12:41.96\00:12:43.76 "You are those 00:12:43.79\00:12:45.13 who justify yourselves before men," 00:12:45.16\00:12:48.30 Luke 16:15, "but God knows your hearts. 00:12:48.33\00:12:52.70 For what is highly esteemed among men is," what? 00:12:52.73\00:12:56.47 "An abomination in the sight of God." 00:12:56.50\00:13:00.71 Now, he's gonna introduce something 00:13:00.74\00:13:02.98 that's gonna come up in the parable. 00:13:03.01\00:13:05.41 Verse 16, 00:13:05.45\00:13:06.78 the law and the prophets were until John, 00:13:06.82\00:13:09.95 since that time 00:13:09.98\00:13:11.32 the kingdom of God has been preached, 00:13:11.35\00:13:13.69 and everyone is pressing into it. 00:13:13.72\00:13:16.73 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away 00:13:16.76\00:13:20.10 than for one tittle of the law to fail. 00:13:20.13\00:13:24.30 And so now He begins in verse 19. 00:13:24.33\00:13:27.34 Let's go ahead and pull into the sword. 00:13:27.37\00:13:29.17 Now, what you're going to get here, 00:13:29.20\00:13:31.57 and I'll just tell you in the very beginning. 00:13:31.61\00:13:33.27 Jesus in this particular parable 00:13:33.31\00:13:36.31 is rebuking a people or a group of Pharisees 00:13:36.34\00:13:39.91 that paid more attention to their financial gain 00:13:39.95\00:13:43.92 than to the needs of those around them. 00:13:43.95\00:13:48.02 Let's go ahead and look at question number... 00:13:48.06\00:13:53.46 Well, let's read first. 00:13:53.50\00:13:54.83 Let's go and read first. 00:13:54.86\00:13:56.20 I don't wanna jump ahead of myself. 00:13:56.23\00:13:57.57 Let's look at question number... 00:13:57.60\00:14:00.47 Let's go on. 00:14:00.50\00:14:01.84 I wanna read the parable first. 00:14:01.87\00:14:03.20 Can we read the parable first? 00:14:03.24\00:14:04.57 Let's read the parable first. 00:14:04.61\00:14:05.94 It says in verse 19, 00:14:05.97\00:14:07.48 "There was a certain rich man who was clothed in," 00:14:07.51\00:14:11.08 what color? 00:14:11.11\00:14:12.45 "Purple and fine linen 00:14:12.48\00:14:14.15 and fared sumptuously every day. 00:14:14.18\00:14:17.89 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, 00:14:17.92\00:14:21.92 who was laid at his gate, 00:14:21.96\00:14:23.93 desiring to be fed with the crumbs 00:14:23.96\00:14:26.23 which fell from the rich man's table. 00:14:26.26\00:14:29.06 Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 00:14:29.10\00:14:31.90 So it was that the beggar died, 00:14:31.93\00:14:34.44 and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. 00:14:34.47\00:14:38.14 The rich man also died and was," what? 00:14:38.17\00:14:40.58 "And was buried. 00:14:40.61\00:14:42.01 And being in torments in Hell or Hades, 00:14:42.04\00:14:45.75 he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off 00:14:45.78\00:14:49.82 and Lazarus in his bosom." 00:14:49.85\00:14:52.65 And then verse 24, "Then he cried and said, 00:14:52.69\00:14:55.56 "Father Abraham, have mercy on me, 00:14:55.59\00:14:58.03 and send Lazarus that he may dip 00:14:58.06\00:15:00.10 the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, 00:15:00.13\00:15:03.57 for I am tormented in this flame. 00:15:03.60\00:15:06.33 But Abraham said, "Son, remember that," 00:15:06.37\00:15:08.77 Now what did Abraham call him? 00:15:08.80\00:15:10.47 Son. 00:15:10.51\00:15:11.84 Let's remember that, 00:15:11.87\00:15:13.21 "Son, remember that in your lifetime 00:15:13.24\00:15:14.84 you received your good things, 00:15:14.88\00:15:16.75 and likewise Lazarus evil things, 00:15:16.78\00:15:18.91 but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 00:15:18.95\00:15:22.32 And beside all this, 00:15:22.35\00:15:23.69 between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, 00:15:23.72\00:15:27.42 so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, 00:15:27.46\00:15:32.89 nor can those from there pass to us. 00:15:32.93\00:15:35.96 Then he said, "I beg you therefore," 00:15:36.00\00:15:38.30 what's the next word, father, 00:15:38.33\00:15:40.27 you get the father and son relationship. 00:15:40.30\00:15:42.67 You gotta understand, 00:15:42.70\00:15:44.04 there's big connection father and son 00:15:44.07\00:15:46.11 who claimed that he had sons who are Abraham's sons 00:15:46.14\00:15:50.71 and who was Abraham the father of. 00:15:50.75\00:15:55.35 Okay, you get the picture now? 00:15:55.38\00:15:56.92 Let's go on. 00:15:56.95\00:15:58.29 And then he goes on further, verse 27, 00:15:58.32\00:16:01.82 "Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, 00:16:01.86\00:16:04.63 that you would send him to my father's house, 00:16:04.66\00:16:07.53 for I have," how many brothers? 00:16:07.56\00:16:09.56 "Five brothers that they may testify to them." 00:16:09.60\00:16:13.47 Remember, five brothers that testify, okay. 00:16:13.50\00:16:17.31 "Lest they also come to this place of torment." 00:16:17.34\00:16:20.61 Abraham said to him, "They have," what? 00:16:20.64\00:16:23.45 "Moses and the prophets, the law and the prophets." 00:16:23.48\00:16:28.05 They have that. 00:16:28.08\00:16:30.09 "Let them hear them." 00:16:30.12\00:16:31.75 And he said, "No, father Abraham, 00:16:31.79\00:16:34.42 but if one goes to them 00:16:34.46\00:16:35.79 from the dead, they will repent." 00:16:35.82\00:16:38.26 But he said to him and this is strong, 00:16:38.29\00:16:40.56 "If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, 00:16:40.60\00:16:43.67 neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead." 00:16:43.70\00:16:49.70 What a story! 00:16:49.74\00:16:51.07 It's a powerful story 00:16:51.11\00:16:52.44 and once you get out of the story right away 00:16:52.47\00:16:53.81 is this a father and a son relationship. 00:16:53.84\00:16:55.51 Abraham is addressing his sons 00:16:55.54\00:16:58.18 and they are obviously addressing Abraham as father, 00:16:58.21\00:17:02.58 another point of the story, is they have how many brothers? 00:17:02.62\00:17:05.95 Five brothers. 00:17:05.99\00:17:07.32 And these brothers 00:17:07.36\00:17:08.69 are for the purpose of testifying. 00:17:08.72\00:17:10.29 Let them listen to these five brothers. 00:17:10.33\00:17:12.86 Not only did they have the five brothers, 00:17:12.89\00:17:14.46 they have Moses and the prophets. 00:17:14.50\00:17:17.27 This is huge 00:17:17.30\00:17:18.63 because when you begin to follow the story, 00:17:18.67\00:17:20.44 one of the things that the Jews boasted on, 00:17:20.47\00:17:22.97 was the first five books of the Bible 00:17:23.00\00:17:25.47 called the Pentateuch, five brothers. 00:17:25.51\00:17:28.68 Not only that, after that they had 00:17:28.71\00:17:30.35 the writings of Moses and the prophets. 00:17:30.38\00:17:33.01 They had all the Old Testament and Moses 00:17:33.05\00:17:36.38 and Abraham is saying, if you listen to them, 00:17:36.42\00:17:39.32 it'll be good with you. 00:17:39.35\00:17:40.99 And then he goes on to say in verse 30, 00:17:41.02\00:17:44.86 "He said, "No, father Abraham, 00:17:44.89\00:17:46.63 but if one goes to them from the dead, 00:17:46.66\00:17:48.30 they will repent. 00:17:48.33\00:17:50.77 But he said, 00:17:50.80\00:17:52.13 "If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, 00:17:52.17\00:17:54.20 neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead." 00:17:54.24\00:17:57.64 Now, how many of you remember the story 00:17:57.67\00:17:59.34 of the actual resurrection of the actual Lazarus? 00:17:59.37\00:18:04.18 John Chapter 11. 00:18:04.21\00:18:05.85 Now up until this point, there was no dead Lazarus. 00:18:05.88\00:18:09.48 The word Lazarus, 00:18:09.52\00:18:10.85 the name Lazarus was simply a name 00:18:10.89\00:18:12.82 that Jesus used in this parable. 00:18:12.85\00:18:15.06 Lazarus had not died yet. 00:18:15.09\00:18:17.99 But, what was the tipping point between them allowing Jesus 00:18:18.03\00:18:23.33 to continue to preach, 00:18:23.37\00:18:24.97 and to determine that he must die 00:18:25.00\00:18:27.24 was when Lazarus was raised from the dead, remember that? 00:18:27.27\00:18:31.14 Go to John Chapter 11. 00:18:31.17\00:18:32.51 Let's see that very quickly. 00:18:32.54\00:18:33.88 John Chapter 11, okay. 00:18:33.91\00:18:37.08 And... 00:18:37.11\00:18:39.11 Okay. 00:18:39.15\00:18:40.48 Yeah, John Chapter 11, wow, 00:18:40.52\00:18:43.69 the whole chapter's about Lazarus 00:18:43.72\00:18:45.45 but, we're gonna go down 00:18:45.49\00:18:47.46 to verse 53, from 53. 00:18:47.49\00:18:53.50 Well, look at verse 43, 44 and then 53, okay. 00:18:53.53\00:18:57.60 Let's look at that. 00:18:57.63\00:18:59.03 John 11:43, 44 and then 53, all right? 00:18:59.07\00:19:05.87 Okay, listen to this. 00:19:05.91\00:19:07.81 "Now when He had said these things, 00:19:07.84\00:19:09.98 he cried with a loud voice," and what did he say? 00:19:10.01\00:19:12.98 "Lazarus, come forth! 00:19:13.01\00:19:15.48 And he who had died came out bound hand and foot 00:19:15.52\00:19:20.12 with grave clothes, 00:19:20.16\00:19:22.02 and his face was wrapped with a cloth. 00:19:22.06\00:19:25.19 Jesus said to them, "Loose him, and let him go." 00:19:25.23\00:19:28.16 Now what just happened here? 00:19:28.20\00:19:29.70 A resurrection took place. 00:19:29.73\00:19:31.07 Now you would think, 00:19:31.10\00:19:32.43 based on what we just said in the story of Luke Chapter 16 00:19:32.47\00:19:34.67 that if somebody rose from the dead, 00:19:34.70\00:19:36.30 they would believe, right? 00:19:36.34\00:19:38.81 Look at verse 53. 00:19:38.84\00:19:40.41 I'll let you read the rest of it later on 00:19:40.44\00:19:41.78 because it was quite a stirring 00:19:41.81\00:19:43.65 between the chief priest and the Pharisees. 00:19:43.68\00:19:45.41 They got together, they decided, 00:19:45.45\00:19:46.78 what shall we do to this man? 00:19:46.82\00:19:48.72 They got angry. 00:19:48.75\00:19:50.09 And it says in verse 53, "Then, from that day on, 00:19:50.12\00:19:53.25 they plotted to put Him to death." 00:19:53.29\00:19:57.13 Jesus must die. 00:19:57.16\00:19:59.29 So here's the point. 00:19:59.33\00:20:00.83 Did the Jews believed though Lazarus was raised? 00:20:00.86\00:20:04.73 No. 00:20:04.77\00:20:06.10 Did they believe when Christ was raised? 00:20:06.13\00:20:07.84 No. 00:20:07.87\00:20:09.50 So now let's go ahead and begin to break down. 00:20:09.54\00:20:11.41 Question number 22. 00:20:11.44\00:20:13.94 Let's begin to breakdown the components of the story. 00:20:13.98\00:20:16.54 Question 22, and here it is. 00:20:16.58\00:20:19.11 When did Jesus use purple and fine linen 00:20:19.15\00:20:26.09 at the beginning of the parable? 00:20:26.12\00:20:28.29 Go with me to Exodus Chapter 26 because remember, in the story, 00:20:28.32\00:20:32.93 the rich man had purple and fine linen. 00:20:32.96\00:20:35.83 Well, if you look at those two colors, 00:20:35.86\00:20:37.80 well, let me not run ahead of myself. 00:20:37.83\00:20:40.47 Okay. 00:20:40.50\00:20:41.87 Exodus 26:31, 00:20:41.90\00:20:44.64 and I'm gonna have it on the screen here. 00:20:44.67\00:20:46.61 If you just did a word study of purple and fine linen 00:20:46.64\00:20:50.98 all through the Bible, and you put those together, 00:20:51.01\00:20:53.28 you'll find that is repetitive references 00:20:53.31\00:20:55.95 to the building of the sanctuary. 00:20:55.98\00:20:59.99 Here it is, Exodus 26:31. 00:21:00.02\00:21:05.56 The Lord said, 00:21:05.59\00:21:06.93 "You shall make a veil woven of blue," 00:21:06.96\00:21:10.83 what else? 00:21:10.87\00:21:12.20 "Purple, and scarlet thread," and what else? 00:21:12.23\00:21:15.77 "Fine woven linen. 00:21:15.80\00:21:18.54 It shall be woven 00:21:18.57\00:21:19.91 with an artistic design of cherubim." 00:21:19.94\00:21:25.88 So you see right away 00:21:25.91\00:21:27.28 why did Jesus use purple and fine linen 00:21:27.32\00:21:29.08 at the beginning of the parable? 00:21:29.12\00:21:30.99 This purple and fine linen are the two colors 00:21:31.02\00:21:35.49 used in the building of the sanctuary. 00:21:35.52\00:21:38.79 This portable temple as the Israelites travel, 00:21:38.83\00:21:41.63 these two colors are associated 00:21:41.66\00:21:44.07 with the building of that temple. 00:21:44.10\00:21:46.84 So if you look at Exodus 26:31, it is the sanctuary colors, 00:21:46.87\00:21:51.51 put that there. 00:21:51.54\00:21:54.91 But you'll find 00:21:54.94\00:21:56.28 there's another reason why He uses it. 00:21:56.31\00:21:57.68 And I would suggest to you, 00:21:57.71\00:21:59.05 and this is something that is my own. 00:21:59.08\00:22:00.55 I have to look for 00:22:00.58\00:22:02.08 the exegetical connection to this 00:22:02.12\00:22:04.19 but when the children of Israel were faithful to the Lord, 00:22:04.22\00:22:09.72 the temple stood. 00:22:09.76\00:22:11.19 But after Jesus died, what happened to the temple? 00:22:11.23\00:22:14.46 It was destroyed. 00:22:14.50\00:22:16.00 There was no longer a need. 00:22:16.03\00:22:17.40 But now Jesus uses these colors 00:22:17.43\00:22:19.73 in another application in the Bible. 00:22:19.77\00:22:22.20 And it was fitting that He used it 00:22:22.24\00:22:23.97 in this application because it applied perfectly 00:22:24.01\00:22:27.34 to the Pharisees that had rejected Jesus. 00:22:27.38\00:22:31.05 Go to Revelation 18:16. 00:22:31.08\00:22:33.38 Look at that. 00:22:33.42\00:22:34.92 He refers to these colors again. 00:22:34.95\00:22:37.29 It's amazing He uses these colors. 00:22:37.32\00:22:39.52 In the early stages, 00:22:39.55\00:22:40.89 He refers to them in the context of the place 00:22:40.92\00:22:42.66 where the Lord abides. 00:22:42.69\00:22:44.43 But after the departure from truth, 00:22:44.46\00:22:47.20 after the walking into the darkness, 00:22:47.23\00:22:49.00 He uses those same colors to associate quite differently. 00:22:49.03\00:22:52.40 Look at Revelation 18:16, here it is, 00:22:52.43\00:22:55.17 "Alas, alas, that great city was clothed in," 00:22:55.20\00:23:01.28 read this together with me in what? 00:23:01.31\00:23:03.38 "Fine linen," and what else? 00:23:03.41\00:23:05.05 "Purple, and scarlet, 00:23:05.08\00:23:07.58 and adorned with gold and precious stones," 00:23:07.62\00:23:10.59 and what else? 00:23:10.62\00:23:11.95 "Pearls!" Look at that. 00:23:11.99\00:23:13.69 Purple, fine linen and scarlet, 00:23:13.72\00:23:16.36 three colors that were included 00:23:16.39\00:23:19.39 in the building of the curtains of the sanctuary. 00:23:19.43\00:23:22.13 But what color is missing here, somebody tell me. 00:23:22.16\00:23:25.50 What color's missing? 00:23:25.53\00:23:26.87 I heard it. 00:23:26.90\00:23:28.24 Say blue. 00:23:28.27\00:23:29.90 In the building of the sanctuary, 00:23:29.94\00:23:31.27 the color blue is there because the color blue 00:23:31.31\00:23:33.27 is a color reminding them of the law of God. 00:23:33.31\00:23:38.45 But it's not in the great city Babylon, 00:23:38.48\00:23:41.75 it's left out. 00:23:41.78\00:23:43.12 They have the fine linen, the purple and the scarlet, 00:23:43.15\00:23:45.72 but the commandments of God are kicked out. 00:23:45.75\00:23:48.49 And how fitting it is 00:23:48.52\00:23:49.99 that when Jesus speaks about those who rejected Him, 00:23:50.03\00:23:52.89 He uses the color purple, and then He says fine linen. 00:23:52.93\00:23:57.23 Because the one's to whom He spoke this very parable, 00:23:57.27\00:24:00.40 He knew their hearts 00:24:00.44\00:24:01.77 and He knew that they had rejected Him. 00:24:01.80\00:24:03.61 Matter of fact, He had fought with the Pharisees endlessly. 00:24:03.64\00:24:07.41 So let's go and put the answers down here, 00:24:07.44\00:24:08.94 why did Jesus used purple and fine linen 00:24:08.98\00:24:10.68 at the beginning of the parable? 00:24:10.71\00:24:12.05 One, refers to the building of the sanctuary and secondly, 00:24:12.08\00:24:15.38 it also is the colors of apostasy. 00:24:15.42\00:24:18.42 Now don't be afraid to wear red or purple, 00:24:18.45\00:24:21.26 but in the context of the application, 00:24:21.29\00:24:23.12 Jesus uses it to describe the apostasy of those 00:24:23.16\00:24:27.86 that turned away from Him. 00:24:27.90\00:24:30.87 All right? 00:24:30.90\00:24:32.23 Now let's go to the very next question. 00:24:32.27\00:24:34.27 Question number 23. 00:24:34.30\00:24:39.01 To whom was Jesus comparing the success of the Pharisees? 00:24:44.98\00:24:49.58 Now I'm in Luke Chapter 16, all right. 00:24:49.62\00:24:54.62 Luke Chapter 16, 00:24:54.66\00:24:56.62 to whom was Jesus comparing the success of the Pharisees? 00:24:56.66\00:24:59.56 Luke 16:20 is where we gonna go and look together, okay? 00:24:59.59\00:25:04.93 Remember the success of the Pharisees is now, 00:25:04.97\00:25:07.24 but He's gonna bring another picture, 00:25:07.27\00:25:08.60 a contrast, if you will. 00:25:08.64\00:25:11.47 He sees the wealthy, fine linen, 00:25:11.51\00:25:13.98 purple and they obviously had money 00:25:14.01\00:25:16.51 because verses earlier, 00:25:16.54\00:25:18.11 He said, "You can't worship Me and money." 00:25:18.15\00:25:20.38 But now He brings another picture 00:25:20.42\00:25:21.82 into the unfolding parable. 00:25:21.85\00:25:26.45 Verse 20 of Luke Chapter 16, the Bible says, 00:25:26.49\00:25:28.92 "But there was a certain beggar named," what? 00:25:28.96\00:25:32.26 "Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate." 00:25:32.29\00:25:38.77 Now why did the Lord use gate? 00:25:38.80\00:25:41.37 Because the cities were all surrounded, 00:25:41.40\00:25:43.51 many of the cities were surrounded by walls. 00:25:43.54\00:25:45.87 You read the Old Testament, Mordecai at the gate. 00:25:45.91\00:25:49.94 Samson tore off a gate of the city. 00:25:49.98\00:25:52.95 Jerusalem had an impregnable gate. 00:25:52.98\00:25:55.05 Babylon with its great walls and the gates of the city. 00:25:55.08\00:25:58.65 Cities were built that way. 00:25:58.69\00:26:00.22 But, the gate in some cities, 00:26:00.26\00:26:03.43 this is where Matthew was a tax collector. 00:26:03.46\00:26:06.06 In some cases, when you enter the city, 00:26:06.09\00:26:08.26 you had to pay a tax. 00:26:08.30\00:26:10.03 Matthew used to be a Pharisee. 00:26:10.07\00:26:11.40 He ripped the people off. 00:26:11.43\00:26:13.64 He'd charge some people more or less tax. 00:26:13.67\00:26:17.11 An action of the Pharisees, that's how they became wealthy. 00:26:17.14\00:26:21.38 They robbed the poor. 00:26:21.41\00:26:23.45 This beggar, full of sores who laid at his gate, 00:26:23.48\00:26:27.75 couldn't even get past the gate. 00:26:27.78\00:26:29.98 He just laid there. 00:26:30.02\00:26:32.55 That was the whole inference. 00:26:32.59\00:26:33.96 He was poor, he was a beggar. 00:26:33.99\00:26:35.62 Please, please let me in, begging lying at the gate, 00:26:35.66\00:26:40.80 cannot afford to get in 00:26:40.83\00:26:42.36 because they wanted money for the entrance. 00:26:42.40\00:26:45.40 So the answer is to whom was Jesus comparing 00:26:45.43\00:26:47.40 the success of the Pharisees? 00:26:47.44\00:26:48.84 Write this down, to the beggar. 00:26:48.87\00:26:51.77 That's the key. 00:26:51.81\00:26:53.14 Lazarus is not very relevant. 00:26:53.17\00:26:54.74 The name Lazarus is used as a character in the story 00:26:54.78\00:26:57.88 because Lazarus had not died yet, right? 00:26:57.91\00:27:02.22 Okay let's move out on to the next one. 00:27:02.25\00:27:04.09 I wanna get this covered tonight. 00:27:04.12\00:27:06.42 Number 24, question number 24. 00:27:06.45\00:27:11.39 What was the desire that the beggar had? 00:27:15.73\00:27:20.94 I think we know that, 00:27:20.97\00:27:22.30 but we're gonna go and ask that question. 00:27:22.34\00:27:24.01 Luke 16:21, the beggar had a desire. 00:27:24.04\00:27:28.24 Not only was he at the gate but he said... 00:27:28.28\00:27:30.35 What do beggars usually ask for? 00:27:30.38\00:27:32.65 Food or money, money or food. 00:27:32.68\00:27:38.22 We met a beggar in San Francisco years ago 00:27:38.25\00:27:40.66 when we're living in California. 00:27:40.69\00:27:42.19 You know beggars usually have signs. 00:27:42.22\00:27:44.46 We took a picture of it. 00:27:44.49\00:27:45.83 If I was thinking, I'd have it on screen. 00:27:45.86\00:27:48.56 This guy was right outside of one of the stores 00:27:48.60\00:27:51.37 in downtown San Francisco and he says, 00:27:51.40\00:27:54.37 "I need money for beer, I'm not gonna lie." 00:27:54.40\00:27:59.91 Now did we give him money? 00:27:59.94\00:28:01.28 No. 00:28:01.31\00:28:04.58 He didn't want bread, he wanted beer. 00:28:04.61\00:28:08.58 At least he was an honest one 00:28:08.62\00:28:09.95 because most people ask for money for food 00:28:09.98\00:28:12.02 and if you give them money, 00:28:12.05\00:28:13.39 they're gonna use it on drugs or some other thing. 00:28:13.42\00:28:15.29 That's why when people are asking something, 00:28:15.32\00:28:17.16 I'm in a position to help him, 00:28:17.19\00:28:18.66 I take him to a place or give them food. 00:28:18.69\00:28:23.40 Be careful. 00:28:23.43\00:28:24.77 Look at Luke 16:21, here's the answer. 00:28:24.80\00:28:27.04 The Bible says, 00:28:27.07\00:28:28.40 "Desiring to be fed with," what? 00:28:28.44\00:28:31.54 "The crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. 00:28:31.57\00:28:35.48 Moreover," what happened? 00:28:35.51\00:28:38.41 "The dogs came and licked his sores." 00:28:38.45\00:28:43.69 Now, if we look at that, 00:28:43.72\00:28:46.25 what are crumbs the byproduct of? 00:28:46.29\00:28:50.76 Or more specifically a loaf of bread. 00:28:50.79\00:28:54.83 If you have loaf of bread, 00:28:54.86\00:28:56.20 it's more indicative of the loaf of bread 00:28:56.23\00:28:57.57 because nowadays, 00:28:57.60\00:28:58.93 when you buy bread in the store, 00:28:58.97\00:29:00.30 usually it's sliced up already, 00:29:00.34\00:29:01.67 you don't get very many crumbs 00:29:01.70\00:29:03.04 because it's not the made the way it used to be, 00:29:03.07\00:29:04.51 but if you buy a bread in a bakery right, 00:29:04.54\00:29:06.84 then you start to cut with that big knife, 00:29:06.88\00:29:08.71 usually what happens? 00:29:08.74\00:29:10.08 You're always gonna get crumbs. 00:29:10.11\00:29:11.45 Or if you bake your own bread, really good bread, 00:29:11.48\00:29:13.78 kind of like they bake it in the West Indies, 00:29:13.82\00:29:16.12 down in Trinidad and you know, it goes on and on. 00:29:16.15\00:29:19.02 Big knifes, loaf of bread when it gets nice and hard... 00:29:19.05\00:29:21.96 Or even Italian bread, right, my brother, my Italian brother. 00:29:21.99\00:29:25.69 Even Italian bread. 00:29:25.73\00:29:27.50 When they get that long Italian bread and you crack it, 00:29:27.53\00:29:30.67 you're gonna get what? 00:29:30.70\00:29:32.03 Crumbs. 00:29:32.07\00:29:33.40 So evidently, the rich man had bread 00:29:33.44\00:29:39.84 and the poor man wanted even some crumbs. 00:29:39.87\00:29:44.38 Oh, we're gonna break this down here. 00:29:44.41\00:29:46.31 What is that crumb all about? 00:29:46.35\00:29:47.95 So write that down. 00:29:47.98\00:29:49.75 Answer number 24, 00:29:49.78\00:29:52.45 what did the beggar desire to have? 00:29:52.49\00:29:54.56 Crumbs. 00:29:54.59\00:29:55.92 Okay, now go with me to the next question. 00:29:59.86\00:30:02.43 Question number 25. 00:30:06.77\00:30:08.87 All right. 00:30:08.90\00:30:10.24 Why does Jesus say "crumbs" fell from the Rich Man's Table? 00:30:22.18\00:30:27.22 Go to the Book of John Chapter 6. 00:30:27.26\00:30:32.63 Matter of fact, in John 6, 7, 8, 00:30:32.66\00:30:37.10 Jesus had particular controversies 00:30:37.13\00:30:39.83 with the Pharisees, with the Scribes, 00:30:39.87\00:30:42.37 they were continually trying to find Jesus 00:30:42.40\00:30:45.01 in some situation where they could trap Him. 00:30:45.04\00:30:49.94 That's where you get the story of the woman 00:30:49.98\00:30:52.81 caught in adultery. 00:30:52.85\00:30:54.18 Who set the trap, tell me? 00:30:54.22\00:30:55.72 The Pharisees! 00:30:55.75\00:30:57.19 They're the ones that threw her before Jesus 00:30:57.22\00:30:59.25 and he continually showed His compassion 00:30:59.29\00:31:01.62 to those who were sinners, then many were rejected. 00:31:01.66\00:31:04.89 But John Chapter 6, 00:31:04.93\00:31:06.86 we're looking together at verse 32 and 33, all right? 00:31:06.90\00:31:13.87 Verse 32 and 33, 00:31:13.90\00:31:15.97 I'm gonna put up on the screen and here it is. 00:31:16.00\00:31:18.54 "Then Jesus said to them, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, 00:31:18.57\00:31:23.35 Moses did not give you the bread from Heaven, 00:31:23.38\00:31:27.62 but My Father gives you the true bread from Heaven." 00:31:27.65\00:31:32.35 And here's the reason why. 00:31:32.39\00:31:33.99 "For the bread of God is He who comes down from Heaven 00:31:34.02\00:31:38.69 and gives life to the world." 00:31:38.73\00:31:41.46 Okay, now let's break that down for a moment. 00:31:41.50\00:31:43.90 Did Jesus choose the nation of Israel 00:31:43.93\00:31:50.64 to share Him to the world, yes or no? 00:31:50.67\00:31:53.64 Yes. 00:31:53.68\00:31:55.01 So Jesus, the bread of life, 00:31:55.04\00:31:56.38 why does He use the phrase bread? 00:31:56.41\00:31:58.88 It's because in the wilderness sojourn, in Exodus Chapter 16, 00:31:58.91\00:32:03.79 every day, the Lord rained bread from Heaven. 00:32:03.82\00:32:08.52 But by the time the children of Israel 00:32:08.56\00:32:11.59 were no longer slaves in the wilderness 00:32:11.63\00:32:13.70 but they were now rest and free, 00:32:13.73\00:32:16.70 they met Jesus 00:32:16.73\00:32:19.03 and look at the verses before that. 00:32:19.07\00:32:20.94 Since you have your Bible open, 00:32:20.97\00:32:22.30 look at the verses before that before we go to verse 41. 00:32:22.34\00:32:25.31 Look at the verse before that. 00:32:25.34\00:32:26.68 Look at verse 30. 00:32:26.71\00:32:29.68 Okay? 00:32:33.52\00:32:34.85 "Therefore they said to him, 00:32:34.88\00:32:36.22 what sign will you perform then 00:32:36.25\00:32:38.29 that we may see it and believe you? 00:32:38.32\00:32:40.56 What work will you do?" 00:32:40.59\00:32:41.92 Notice the issue here 00:32:41.96\00:32:43.29 in John and Luke Chapter 16, the issue is belief. 00:32:43.32\00:32:45.26 If somebody rose, we'll believe. 00:32:45.29\00:32:46.76 They always want evidence about believing, 00:32:46.80\00:32:48.50 but the Bible says, 00:32:48.53\00:32:49.86 "Salvation is by grace through faith." 00:32:49.90\00:32:52.50 Let's go to the very next verse, verse 31. 00:32:52.53\00:32:55.00 They said our fathers, 00:32:55.04\00:32:57.01 now don't forget that because they called Abraham 00:32:57.04\00:32:59.54 their father, remember that. 00:32:59.57\00:33:02.48 "Our fathers ate manna in the desert as it is written. 00:33:02.51\00:33:07.78 He gave them bread from Heaven to eat," verse 31. 00:33:07.82\00:33:11.89 Then verse 32, 00:33:11.92\00:33:13.32 "Then Jesus said to them, 'Most assuredly, 00:33:13.36\00:33:15.86 I say to you," we just read that, 00:33:15.89\00:33:18.49 "Moses did not give you bread from Heaven, 00:33:18.53\00:33:20.06 but My Father gives you the true bread from Heaven." 00:33:20.10\00:33:23.06 So verse 32 and 33, 00:33:23.10\00:33:25.23 why does Jesus say crumbs fell from the Rich Man's Table? 00:33:25.27\00:33:28.07 Because he is the bread of life. 00:33:28.10\00:33:29.64 All right. 00:33:33.68\00:33:35.01 Matter of fact, let's look at verse 41 to verify that. 00:33:35.04\00:33:38.31 Okay. 00:33:38.35\00:33:39.68 In verse 32 and 33, Jesus is saying He is the... 00:33:39.71\00:33:43.02 Let's put it, He's the bread from Heaven. 00:33:43.05\00:33:45.59 Put that in verse 32 and 33. 00:33:45.62\00:33:49.66 He is the bread from Heaven. 00:33:49.69\00:33:51.59 Now look at verse 41, here it is. 00:33:51.63\00:33:56.50 "The Jews then complained about Him, because He said," 00:33:56.53\00:34:00.70 together, "I am the bread which came down from Heaven." 00:34:00.74\00:34:07.58 I am the bread, man, 00:34:07.61\00:34:09.94 they were really upset with Him 00:34:09.98\00:34:11.31 because He says, "I am the bread." 00:34:11.35\00:34:12.68 He's not only the bread that came down from Heaven, 00:34:12.71\00:34:14.88 but He's the bread of life, the verification there. 00:34:14.92\00:34:17.99 So now let's pack that again. 00:34:18.02\00:34:20.82 Speaking to the leaders, the Pharisees and Scribes, 00:34:20.86\00:34:25.03 now they're saying, "Wait a minute, 00:34:25.06\00:34:26.49 you cannot be the bread because Moses gave us bread." 00:34:26.53\00:34:31.27 And who came up in the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus? 00:34:31.30\00:34:35.90 You've got Moses and the prophets. 00:34:35.94\00:34:39.61 You've got Moses and the prophets hear Him. 00:34:39.64\00:34:42.88 If somebody rose from the dead, they'll believe 00:34:42.91\00:34:45.01 but, we know the story of John in John Chapter 11 00:34:45.05\00:34:48.48 when Lazarus was raised, they didn't believe. 00:34:48.52\00:34:50.79 Let's go on to get more evidences here. 00:34:50.82\00:34:53.32 All right? 00:34:53.36\00:34:54.69 Now we gotta get to the most significant portion of it 00:34:54.72\00:34:56.86 is in the next question, question number 26, here it is. 00:34:56.89\00:35:02.03 Why does Jesus say 00:35:02.06\00:35:03.67 "dogs" licked the beggar's sores? 00:35:03.70\00:35:08.14 Why does He say "dogs" licked the beggar's sores? 00:35:08.17\00:35:12.67 Very important. 00:35:12.71\00:35:14.08 Let's go now to Matthew Chapter 00:35:14.11\00:35:16.44 7 for our answer. 00:35:16.48\00:35:17.91 I'm gonna lay some foundation 00:35:22.18\00:35:23.52 while you're turning to Matthew Chapter 7. 00:35:23.55\00:35:25.25 One of the issues that Jesus dealt 00:35:25.29\00:35:26.79 with also was raised prejudice. 00:35:26.82\00:35:29.89 This is an issue that was old that goes way back. 00:35:29.92\00:35:33.06 There was always an issue. 00:35:33.09\00:35:34.43 And it didn't mean 00:35:34.46\00:35:35.80 the skin color wasn't the factor, 00:35:35.83\00:35:37.17 but people had this affinity to their nation 00:35:37.20\00:35:39.33 and there were times, matter of fact, 00:35:39.37\00:35:41.57 the greatest work that Jesus had to accomplish 00:35:41.60\00:35:44.24 among His apostles, among His disciples, 00:35:44.27\00:35:47.31 later who became apostles. 00:35:47.34\00:35:48.68 He had to break down their prejudice 00:35:48.71\00:35:51.35 of the surrounding nations. 00:35:51.38\00:35:53.72 And that's why this word dog was used in the parable. 00:35:53.75\00:35:57.12 Now let's pack it together. 00:35:57.15\00:35:58.49 What do we find out so far? 00:35:58.52\00:36:00.26 We found out they were rich men, 00:36:00.29\00:36:01.99 the Pharisees and Scribes 00:36:02.02\00:36:04.69 and Lazarus through character in the story 00:36:04.73\00:36:06.86 was poor and a beggar. 00:36:06.90\00:36:08.36 What did he want? 00:36:08.40\00:36:10.67 Crumbs. 00:36:10.70\00:36:12.03 What do crumbs come from? 00:36:12.07\00:36:13.67 Bread. 00:36:13.70\00:36:15.04 Okay, let's keep following this. 00:36:15.07\00:36:16.64 So they were wealthy, these were leaders, 00:36:16.67\00:36:20.31 they were not taken care of the needs of the poor, 00:36:20.34\00:36:22.21 but somebody did. 00:36:22.24\00:36:24.41 The dogs licked the poor man's sores. 00:36:24.45\00:36:29.48 Let's see where the dogs are. 00:36:29.52\00:36:33.96 Matthews 7:6. 00:36:33.99\00:36:36.62 Look up what the words of Christ said? 00:36:36.66\00:36:38.59 This is amazing thing, here it is, Matthew 7:6. 00:36:38.63\00:36:41.83 "Jesus said, 00:36:41.86\00:36:43.20 'Do not give what is holy to" what? 00:36:43.23\00:36:46.10 "Dogs, nor cast your pearls before," what? 00:36:46.13\00:36:50.21 "Swine, lest they trample them under their feet, 00:36:50.24\00:36:53.74 and turn and tear you in," what? 00:36:53.78\00:36:56.54 "In pieces." 00:36:56.58\00:36:58.05 So right away Jesus is beginning to use language. 00:36:58.08\00:37:00.72 Now at the outset, 00:37:00.75\00:37:02.08 this is an amazing thing about the story. 00:37:02.12\00:37:03.52 At the outset, it would appear though Jesus is upset 00:37:03.55\00:37:06.02 or prejudiced about a particular group. 00:37:06.05\00:37:08.12 Don't give food to the dogs, 00:37:08.16\00:37:09.92 don't cast your pearl before the swine. 00:37:09.96\00:37:12.23 In other words be careful who you talk to. 00:37:12.26\00:37:13.80 That's what it seems like Jesus is saying. 00:37:13.83\00:37:16.93 But the reason why He uses that language 00:37:16.97\00:37:19.33 will be unfolded further on. 00:37:19.37\00:37:21.47 Now let's go down to verse 22 of Matthew Chapter 15. 00:37:21.50\00:37:25.67 He's using the language of the day. 00:37:25.71\00:37:27.81 Nowadays, children say dog, D-A-U-G. 00:37:27.84\00:37:34.12 They use a phrase, you're my daug. 00:37:34.15\00:37:35.62 Well, I want to just make it very clear, 00:37:35.65\00:37:36.99 I'm not anybody's daug. 00:37:37.02\00:37:38.35 Can you all say amen to that? 00:37:38.39\00:37:39.72 We're not dogs. 00:37:39.75\00:37:41.09 But that's language 00:37:41.12\00:37:42.46 that's even used nowadays D-A-W-G. 00:37:42.49\00:37:44.56 I think that's the way they pronounce it, 00:37:44.59\00:37:45.96 that's the way they spell it. 00:37:45.99\00:37:47.66 But Jesus was using the language of the day 00:37:47.70\00:37:50.07 and that particular word was connected 00:37:50.10\00:37:52.03 to a particular nation of people. 00:37:52.07\00:37:54.10 Here it is. 00:37:54.14\00:37:55.47 Matthew15:22. 00:37:59.17\00:38:02.91 Let's begin with verse 21. 00:38:02.94\00:38:04.28 I might put verse 22 on the board, 00:38:04.31\00:38:06.11 but we're gonna read verse 21 first 00:38:06.15\00:38:08.12 and then when we get to 22, 00:38:08.15\00:38:10.05 bring that upon the screen for me. 00:38:10.09\00:38:11.82 "Then Jesus went out from there 00:38:11.85\00:38:14.29 and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon." 00:38:14.32\00:38:18.76 Verse 22 now, 00:38:18.79\00:38:20.40 "And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region 00:38:25.13\00:38:28.97 and cried out to Him, saying," what? 00:38:29.00\00:38:32.87 "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! 00:38:32.91\00:38:37.55 My daughter is severely demon-possessed." 00:38:37.58\00:38:41.88 So right away where did this woman come from? 00:38:41.92\00:38:46.05 Where did this woman come from? 00:38:46.09\00:38:47.66 Canaan. 00:38:47.69\00:38:49.62 This is something very important. 00:38:49.66\00:38:51.53 She came from Canaan and she's asking for the help 00:38:51.56\00:38:54.23 of Jesus because her daughter is severely demon-possessed. 00:38:54.26\00:38:58.43 Now go down to verse 26 and 27. 00:38:58.47\00:39:01.54 See, you gotta unpack it. 00:39:01.57\00:39:02.90 You gotta unpack it very carefully. 00:39:02.94\00:39:05.17 And remember, with Him are the disciples. 00:39:05.21\00:39:09.74 Let's see what His answers are. 00:39:09.78\00:39:12.75 Now we're gonna go down to verse 23 00:39:12.78\00:39:15.85 and when I get to verse 26, bring it up on the screen. 00:39:15.88\00:39:18.79 Let's go to verse 23, 00:39:18.82\00:39:21.49 "But He answered her not a word. 00:39:21.52\00:39:24.73 And His disciples," His what? 00:39:24.76\00:39:27.50 "His disciples urged Him, saying what, 00:39:27.53\00:39:32.57 'Send her away, for she cries out after us.' 00:39:32.60\00:39:38.71 But He answered and said, 00:39:38.74\00:39:40.28 'I was not sent except to the lost sheep 00:39:43.88\00:39:45.91 of the house of Israel.' 00:39:45.95\00:39:48.12 Then she came and did," what? 00:39:48.15\00:39:50.35 "Worshiped Him, saying, 'Lord, help me!' 00:39:50.39\00:39:54.19 " And then look at the response in verse 26. 00:39:54.22\00:39:58.43 "But he answered and said, 00:39:58.46\00:40:01.03 'It is not good to take the children's," what? 00:40:01.06\00:40:05.70 "Bread and throw it to the" what? 00:40:05.73\00:40:08.80 "Little dogs." 00:40:08.84\00:40:10.97 It is not good to take the children's bread 00:40:11.01\00:40:13.27 and throw it to the little dogs. 00:40:13.31\00:40:14.88 Now let's get this. 00:40:14.91\00:40:16.24 He's talking about the children, the children, 00:40:16.28\00:40:19.48 the children of Israel. 00:40:19.51\00:40:22.78 Those were the house of Israel. 00:40:22.82\00:40:25.15 He identified the house of Israel, 00:40:25.19\00:40:27.26 he called them children, then he said to her, 00:40:27.29\00:40:29.72 woman from Canaan, the Canaanites, 00:40:29.76\00:40:31.99 it is not good to take the children's bread 00:40:32.03\00:40:35.80 and cast it to dogs. 00:40:35.83\00:40:37.17 Isn't it amazing that bread and dogs 00:40:37.20\00:40:38.97 are in the story of the Rich Man and Lazarus. 00:40:39.00\00:40:40.77 Let's go to the very next verse. 00:40:40.80\00:40:42.54 Look at the very next verse, and this is powerful. 00:40:42.57\00:40:45.81 Verse 27. 00:40:45.84\00:40:47.18 "And she said, 'Yes, Lord, 00:40:47.21\00:40:49.34 yet even the little dogs eat the," what? 00:40:49.38\00:40:53.05 "Crumbs which fall from their masters' table." 00:40:53.08\00:40:58.05 Bread, dog, crumbs, master, 00:40:58.09\00:41:03.43 children, father, son, 00:41:03.46\00:41:06.70 the language is indicative of the relationship 00:41:06.73\00:41:09.53 between Israel and Christ. 00:41:09.56\00:41:11.63 Thus the Pharisees and Scribes. 00:41:11.67\00:41:13.94 They had bread, 00:41:13.97\00:41:15.54 they wouldn't even give the crumbs to the poor. 00:41:15.57\00:41:18.87 But now who is the dog? 00:41:18.91\00:41:21.04 Come on somebody, who's the dogs? 00:41:21.08\00:41:23.11 The Canaanites. 00:41:23.14\00:41:24.98 When you follow the history of the children of Israel. 00:41:25.01\00:41:28.55 This is the reason why you have parable 00:41:28.58\00:41:29.92 there in Matthew Chapter 25 when Jesus says," 00:41:29.95\00:41:32.35 I was hungry, I was naked, 00:41:32.39\00:41:34.22 I was imprisoned, I was closed." 00:41:34.26\00:41:37.66 He used it as a test because they thought 00:41:37.69\00:41:39.96 the most important thing was what we had a good diet, 00:41:40.00\00:41:43.20 we honor the Sabbath, 00:41:43.23\00:41:44.57 all the things that were indicative 00:41:44.60\00:41:45.93 of the children of Israel. 00:41:45.97\00:41:48.07 But what about the needs of the poor? 00:41:48.10\00:41:50.54 They were overlooked. 00:41:50.57\00:41:52.31 Very, very powerful. 00:41:52.34\00:41:53.68 So now, the Canaanites and here you'll study 00:41:53.71\00:41:56.21 the history of the Israelites. 00:41:56.24\00:41:57.58 The Canaanites were more concerned 00:41:57.61\00:41:59.58 about the needs of the poor than the children of Israel. 00:41:59.61\00:42:03.32 And Jesus rebuked them in the parable 00:42:06.32\00:42:07.86 for that particular reason. 00:42:07.89\00:42:09.26 Now let's go ahead and break 00:42:09.29\00:42:10.76 some of the amplifications down. 00:42:10.79\00:42:12.53 Some of the amplifications. 00:42:12.56\00:42:13.90 So here it is. 00:42:13.93\00:42:15.26 Why does Jesus say dogs lick the beggar's sores? 00:42:15.30\00:42:17.33 Matthew 7:6, what did we learn there? 00:42:17.37\00:42:21.00 Huh? 00:42:21.04\00:42:22.60 Okay, Matthew 7:6, don't put your, 00:42:22.64\00:42:27.71 don't cast your pearls to the pigs 00:42:27.74\00:42:32.01 or give what is holy to the dogs. 00:42:32.05\00:42:34.32 The word "dogs" and here's the definition, 00:42:34.35\00:42:36.69 the word "dogs" is simply used to describe 00:42:36.72\00:42:38.75 those who won't make the kingdom, 00:42:38.79\00:42:41.09 those who were by the definition of the Jews, 00:42:41.12\00:42:45.46 not worthy of going into the city. 00:42:45.49\00:42:48.46 Now, where was Lazarus laying? 00:42:48.50\00:42:51.63 Tell me somebody? 00:42:51.67\00:42:53.00 Where was he laying? 00:42:53.03\00:42:54.37 Say it again. 00:42:54.40\00:42:55.74 By the gate. 00:42:55.77\00:42:57.11 Go to Revelation Chapter 22, ooh, this is powerful. 00:42:57.14\00:42:59.97 The language is so indicative because the poor 00:43:00.01\00:43:02.14 were not even allowed in the city. 00:43:02.18\00:43:06.48 He couldn't make it beyond the gate. 00:43:06.51\00:43:09.88 And he was the one that was described as unworthy. 00:43:09.92\00:43:14.89 But the dogs paid attention to him. 00:43:14.92\00:43:17.19 Look at Revelation Chapter 22. 00:43:17.23\00:43:20.70 Let me show you the language, 00:43:20.73\00:43:22.06 it's very indicative throughout the Bible. 00:43:22.10\00:43:23.53 Jesus makes it very, very clear. 00:43:23.57\00:43:26.10 Revelation Chapter 22, I'm almost there. 00:43:26.13\00:43:31.57 Okay, here it is. 00:43:31.61\00:43:34.08 Revelation 22:14, all right. 00:43:34.11\00:43:39.88 Together the Bible says, 00:43:39.91\00:43:41.25 "Blessed are those who do His commandments 00:43:41.28\00:43:43.62 that they may have the right to the tree of life, 00:43:43.65\00:43:45.95 and may enter through the gates into the city." 00:43:45.99\00:43:50.53 Now, the Pharisees and Scribes 00:43:50.56\00:43:53.19 claimed to keep the commandments of God, 00:43:53.23\00:43:56.23 and Jesus said, 00:43:56.26\00:43:57.60 "They won't even make the kingdom before the harlots, 00:43:57.63\00:43:59.30 and publicans, and sinners, and tax collector." 00:43:59.33\00:44:01.74 But here, overcoming by the blood of the Lamb, 00:44:01.77\00:44:04.67 those who are here are the ones who finally accept the Lamb, 00:44:04.71\00:44:08.24 honor His commandments, 00:44:08.28\00:44:09.61 and they could enter the city through the gates. 00:44:09.64\00:44:11.85 But look at the next verse, the language. 00:44:11.88\00:44:16.48 And people always think God has something against dogs. 00:44:16.52\00:44:19.22 This is not literal dogs. 00:44:19.25\00:44:21.19 But it says in verse 15, "But outside," outside of what? 00:44:21.22\00:44:24.56 The gates. 00:44:24.59\00:44:25.93 "But outside are," what? 00:44:25.96\00:44:27.56 "Dogs, and sorcerers, and sexually immoral, 00:44:27.60\00:44:32.83 and murderers, and idolaters, 00:44:32.87\00:44:35.37 and whoever loves and practices a lie." 00:44:35.40\00:44:38.57 He uses the word dogs. 00:44:38.61\00:44:40.78 So here is the key. 00:44:40.81\00:44:43.14 Finally those who will really be rejected, 00:44:43.18\00:44:46.18 will be considered the outcast, 00:44:46.21\00:44:48.25 and that was the context of the word "dogs". 00:44:48.28\00:44:51.15 The outcast, but in the Parable of Rich Man, Lazarus, 00:44:51.19\00:44:54.22 those who the Jews considered to be outcast, 00:44:54.26\00:44:57.59 were more concerned about the needs of the poor 00:44:57.63\00:44:59.59 than the Jews that were wealthy, 00:44:59.63\00:45:00.96 they had money. 00:45:01.00\00:45:02.90 If you have money, what do you use your money for? 00:45:02.93\00:45:05.10 To help somebody in need! 00:45:05.13\00:45:07.50 But they held onto their money, and their money became a god, 00:45:07.54\00:45:10.11 that's why Jesus said, 00:45:10.14\00:45:11.47 "You cannot serve God and you cannot serve man." 00:45:11.51\00:45:13.94 Now let's answer some of the obvious questions, 00:45:13.98\00:45:15.94 number 27. 00:45:15.98\00:45:18.58 Here it is. 00:45:18.61\00:45:20.02 And these are points, right off the bat. 00:45:20.05\00:45:22.72 I could ask a question but here it is. 00:45:22.75\00:45:24.42 Abraham's bosom is not Heaven? 00:45:24.45\00:45:27.12 Can you all say amen to that? 00:45:27.16\00:45:29.42 I don't wanna be insensitive but that will have to be 00:45:29.46\00:45:31.86 a very roomy bosom. 00:45:31.89\00:45:34.33 To be very candid about it, let's see the evidence. 00:45:34.36\00:45:37.63 Hebrews 11:8-10 and then verse 16. 00:45:37.67\00:45:42.30 Hebrews Chapter 11, that's the faith chapter. 00:45:42.34\00:45:46.37 If Abraham's bosom is the literal Heaven, 00:45:46.41\00:45:51.51 then people died and are buried in Abraham's bosom, 00:45:51.55\00:45:54.68 he would have the largest cemetery on the earth. 00:45:54.72\00:45:57.99 He would in fact be the final place 00:45:58.02\00:46:00.29 for all the righteous. 00:46:00.32\00:46:01.96 And the reason why Jesus used Abraham's bosom 00:46:01.99\00:46:04.89 is because the Jews boasted Abraham, Abraham, Abraham. 00:46:04.93\00:46:11.07 He is given us the right to the kingdom. 00:46:11.10\00:46:13.70 But Abraham himself was looking for a kingdom. 00:46:13.74\00:46:17.01 Abraham is not the final resting place of the righteous 00:46:17.04\00:46:20.11 or the final abiding place of the righteous, 00:46:20.14\00:46:22.41 Abraham himself is looking for the city. 00:46:22.44\00:46:24.88 Here it is, in Hebrews Chapter 11, 00:46:24.91\00:46:28.02 the Bible says, "By faith," what's the next word? 00:46:28.05\00:46:31.02 "Abraham obeyed 00:46:31.05\00:46:32.85 when he was called to go out to the place 00:46:32.89\00:46:34.92 which he would receive as an inheritance. 00:46:34.96\00:46:38.06 And he went out, 00:46:38.09\00:46:39.43 not knowing where he was going." 00:46:39.46\00:46:41.60 Let's go to verse 9 now. 00:46:41.63\00:46:43.47 "By faith he dwelt in the land of promise 00:46:43.50\00:46:49.04 as in a foreign country, 00:46:49.07\00:46:51.41 dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, 00:46:51.44\00:46:55.11 their heirs with him of the same promise." 00:46:55.14\00:46:58.61 Now verse 10, 00:46:58.65\00:47:00.52 "For he waited for the city which had foundations, 00:47:00.55\00:47:06.35 whose builder and maker is," what? 00:47:06.39\00:47:08.36 "God." 00:47:08.39\00:47:09.72 That's Heaven. 00:47:09.76\00:47:11.09 Abraham was looking for Heaven, Abraham is not Heaven. 00:47:11.13\00:47:17.20 Abraham is not the resting place. 00:47:17.23\00:47:19.57 We find our rest in the kingdom of God, 00:47:19.60\00:47:22.14 not in the bosom of Abraham. 00:47:22.17\00:47:24.37 Let's look at verse 16 now to verify this. 00:47:24.41\00:47:28.74 It says, "But now they 00:47:28.78\00:47:32.65 that is Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. 00:47:32.68\00:47:34.82 But now they desire a better, that is," what kind of country? 00:47:34.85\00:47:39.59 "A heavenly country. 00:47:39.62\00:47:40.96 Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, 00:47:40.99\00:47:44.73 for He has prepared a," what for them? 00:47:44.76\00:47:47.66 "A city for them." 00:47:47.70\00:47:49.13 The Jews felt, oh, no, no, no. 00:47:49.16\00:47:51.63 Abraham's bosom. 00:47:51.67\00:47:53.50 We could lean on the bosom of Abraham. 00:47:53.54\00:47:56.37 He's our comfort, he's our beginning, 00:47:56.40\00:47:58.74 he's our boast, he's our right, he's our access. 00:47:58.77\00:48:01.64 Abraham said, no, no, that's not the case! 00:48:01.68\00:48:04.25 Abraham himself was a friend of God. 00:48:04.28\00:48:06.35 He found his access by faith in the coming Messiah. 00:48:06.38\00:48:11.09 Thus, he was willing to offer up his son. 00:48:11.12\00:48:13.36 So is Abraham's bosom Heaven, yes or no? 00:48:13.39\00:48:16.09 The answer is no. 00:48:16.12\00:48:17.46 But let's look at the other components. 00:48:17.49\00:48:19.79 Because it talks about here, 00:48:19.83\00:48:23.70 the wealthy man finally ends up in Hell, in the fires, 00:48:23.73\00:48:27.74 he lift up his voice and he sees the righteous 00:48:27.77\00:48:31.11 and he says, 00:48:31.14\00:48:33.48 "It's really hot in here, I'm tormented. 00:48:33.51\00:48:36.64 Could you dip your finger in some water 00:48:36.68\00:48:39.05 and quench my thirst?" 00:48:39.08\00:48:40.82 And I'm gonna tell you right now, 00:48:40.85\00:48:42.98 I'm not in the fires of Hell, praise God for that. 00:48:43.02\00:48:45.82 But I surely could use a drink of water right now. 00:48:45.85\00:48:48.29 And if you gave me, honey, pass to me. 00:48:48.32\00:48:51.19 If you gave me, thank you. 00:48:51.23\00:48:53.76 If you gave me... 00:48:53.80\00:48:55.40 That's too much. 00:49:04.11\00:49:06.24 That's more than a dip of the finger, isn't it? 00:49:06.27\00:49:08.68 But I wanna tell you, I'm still thirsty. 00:49:08.71\00:49:10.65 I am. 00:49:10.68\00:49:12.01 If that barely quenches my thirst in this room, 00:49:14.78\00:49:17.95 in which there is no fire. 00:49:17.99\00:49:20.32 Can it be a literal parable? 00:49:20.36\00:49:21.92 Here you go, honey. 00:49:21.96\00:49:23.29 Can it be a literal parable that the righteous 00:49:23.32\00:49:26.93 are close enough to put their finger in water... 00:49:26.96\00:49:31.10 Hold on, here I come. 00:49:31.13\00:49:33.10 But the answer is no, no, there is no way. 00:49:33.13\00:49:36.60 There's a great gulf fixed. 00:49:36.64\00:49:38.11 But the supposition is that after you die, 00:49:38.14\00:49:43.21 what happened prior to that is still remembered. 00:49:43.24\00:49:45.58 Look at Isaiah 65:17. 00:49:45.61\00:49:48.15 The next question, question number 28 00:49:48.18\00:49:50.49 or the point under number 28 is, 00:49:50.52\00:49:52.55 the saved in Heaven can't talk to the lost in Hell. 00:49:52.59\00:49:57.16 The saved in Heaven 00:49:57.19\00:49:58.53 cannot talk to the lost in Hell. 00:49:58.56\00:50:00.06 Now you may wonder why I phrased 00:50:00.10\00:50:01.43 the question this way? 00:50:01.46\00:50:02.80 Because Heaven is in the future for us 00:50:02.83\00:50:04.37 and Hell is in the future for the wicked. 00:50:04.40\00:50:07.27 Nobody dies and go to Heaven, I mean to Heaven. 00:50:07.30\00:50:10.47 And nobody dies and goes to Hell. 00:50:10.51\00:50:12.27 We all have to wait for the resurrection. 00:50:12.31\00:50:15.41 Then, the reward 00:50:15.44\00:50:17.48 or the punishment is passed out. 00:50:17.51\00:50:19.48 So right now, nobody is in Heaven 00:50:19.51\00:50:21.12 except those that the Bible states clearly, 00:50:21.15\00:50:24.39 and nobody's in the fires of Hell 00:50:24.42\00:50:25.75 being tormented right now. 00:50:25.79\00:50:27.12 So, if the story is in the setting of 00:50:27.16\00:50:29.62 the rich man in Hell 00:50:29.66\00:50:32.13 and the righteous on the other side of the gulf, 00:50:32.16\00:50:37.20 it's obviously Heaven and Hell. 00:50:37.23\00:50:41.07 But look what Isaiah 65:17 says, 00:50:41.10\00:50:44.14 when Heaven is real to us, 00:50:44.17\00:50:46.98 and Hell becomes real to the lost 00:50:47.01\00:50:49.78 and the destruction of Hell continues. 00:50:49.81\00:50:52.31 Look what the Bible says about Heaven or Hell. 00:50:52.35\00:50:55.08 The Bible says, "For behold, I create," what? 00:50:55.12\00:50:58.85 "New heavens and a new earth, and the former," what? 00:50:58.89\00:51:03.96 "Shall not be remembered or come to mind." 00:51:03.99\00:51:10.73 So when Hell becomes real for us, 00:51:10.77\00:51:14.17 and Hell becomes real for the wicked, 00:51:14.20\00:51:16.84 it's gonna accomplish its purpose. 00:51:16.87\00:51:18.57 Malachi Chapter 4, we talked about that, 00:51:18.61\00:51:19.97 remember that? 00:51:20.01\00:51:21.34 Early in the lesson. 00:51:21.38\00:51:22.71 If you missed that broadcast on the very same website, 00:51:22.74\00:51:24.71 asf.3abn.org, 00:51:24.75\00:51:28.15 click the videos tab and look at the prior broadcast 00:51:28.18\00:51:31.75 which will show you the text that we walked through before. 00:51:31.79\00:51:35.02 Hell is in front of us. 00:51:35.06\00:51:37.53 Hell, let me point down, Hell is in front of us, 00:51:37.56\00:51:41.80 Heaven is in front of us. 00:51:41.83\00:51:43.16 We look for the new heavens. 00:51:43.20\00:51:45.43 And unfortunately when Hell is done, 00:51:45.47\00:51:47.84 only the new heavens and the new earth will remain. 00:51:47.87\00:51:50.27 But now look at the very next verse. 00:51:50.31\00:51:52.54 They can't talk to each other. 00:51:52.57\00:51:54.38 Most significant reason, 00:51:54.41\00:51:55.74 Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6 and then 10. 00:51:55.78\00:52:01.22 Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6 and 10. 00:52:01.25\00:52:05.85 All right. 00:52:05.89\00:52:07.22 Here it is, 00:52:07.26\00:52:09.16 "For the living," what's the next word? 00:52:09.19\00:52:11.76 "Know that they will die, but the dead know," how much? 00:52:11.79\00:52:15.50 "Nothing." 00:52:15.53\00:52:16.87 So when the death of the wicked, 00:52:16.90\00:52:20.34 when the wicked man dies, 00:52:20.37\00:52:22.07 the suggestion is 00:52:22.10\00:52:23.44 that some people teach nowadays, 00:52:23.47\00:52:24.81 they're in Hell. 00:52:24.84\00:52:26.17 They're talking to the righteous. 00:52:26.21\00:52:28.54 I don't want to tell you what book I received 00:52:28.58\00:52:30.31 from a different denomination. 00:52:30.35\00:52:32.05 They told me that there's a place called 00:52:32.08\00:52:33.42 the "Happiness compartment" 00:52:33.45\00:52:34.78 where they can actually talk back and forth, 00:52:34.82\00:52:36.48 and to this particular denomination, 00:52:36.52\00:52:38.39 it was paramount to the purgatory 00:52:38.42\00:52:40.36 in another denomination. 00:52:40.39\00:52:41.79 They said the righteous and the wicked communicate, 00:52:41.82\00:52:43.99 it's called the happiness compartment. 00:52:44.03\00:52:45.56 It's not scriptural. 00:52:45.59\00:52:46.93 Amen for that because the living, 00:52:46.96\00:52:48.83 if you're alive, you know something. 00:52:48.86\00:52:50.57 But if you're dead, how much do you know? 00:52:50.60\00:52:51.97 Nothing. 00:52:52.00\00:52:53.34 Not only that, "They have no more reward, 00:52:53.37\00:52:56.34 for the memory of them is," what? 00:52:56.37\00:52:58.17 "Forgotten." 00:52:58.21\00:52:59.54 Their minds are not in operating mode. 00:52:59.57\00:53:02.01 That's why the next verse is so significant. 00:53:02.04\00:53:04.15 "Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now," what? 00:53:04.18\00:53:09.85 "Perished, nevermore will they have a share 00:53:09.88\00:53:13.96 in anything done under the sun." 00:53:13.99\00:53:17.43 So here's the point that has to be made right here. 00:53:17.46\00:53:19.89 When the wicked die, 00:53:19.93\00:53:22.16 do they have interaction with the righteous? 00:53:22.20\00:53:24.90 In Hell, will they have interaction 00:53:24.93\00:53:27.00 with the righteous? 00:53:27.04\00:53:28.37 No! 00:53:28.40\00:53:29.74 There's a great gulf fixed. 00:53:29.77\00:53:32.41 You can't go there and we don't wanna go there 00:53:32.44\00:53:36.98 'cause when that's done, there'll be a new earth, 00:53:37.01\00:53:39.58 only righteousness will dwell on the earth. 00:53:39.61\00:53:42.25 That's why this verse is included, verse 10, 00:53:42.28\00:53:44.79 "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with," what? 00:53:44.82\00:53:47.79 "Your might, 00:53:47.82\00:53:49.16 for there is no work or device or knowledge 00:53:49.19\00:53:55.16 or wisdom in the grave where you are," what? 00:53:55.20\00:53:59.17 "Where you are going." 00:53:59.20\00:54:01.24 When the wicked man ends up in the grave, 00:54:01.27\00:54:03.74 and he's resurrected at the very end, 00:54:03.77\00:54:05.74 oh it's a sad story. 00:54:05.77\00:54:07.11 Matter of fact, 00:54:07.14\00:54:08.48 I struggled when I was putting this lesson together 00:54:08.51\00:54:10.71 to even put it there. 00:54:10.75\00:54:12.31 I wanted to end on a more positive note. 00:54:12.35\00:54:16.18 Because when the destruction of Hell begins to take place, 00:54:16.22\00:54:19.99 the Bible 00:54:20.02\00:54:21.36 does not give the picture that this parable gives. 00:54:21.39\00:54:23.76 The Bible says, "There'll be weeping and," what? 00:54:23.79\00:54:26.90 "Gnashing of teeth." 00:54:26.93\00:54:28.26 Why? 00:54:28.30\00:54:29.63 Because the lost will finally see 00:54:29.66\00:54:31.23 what they have forfeited. 00:54:31.27\00:54:33.40 They're not gonna say, 00:54:33.44\00:54:34.77 "Hey guys, how are you guys doing? 00:54:34.80\00:54:37.94 Do you have any water?" 00:54:37.97\00:54:39.31 That's not the case. 00:54:39.34\00:54:42.48 And by the way 00:54:42.51\00:54:43.85 if you follow the parabolic descriptions further, 00:54:43.88\00:54:46.75 Jesus is the only one that can quench them, 00:54:46.78\00:54:48.92 and they only want a dip. 00:54:48.95\00:54:50.95 Give us the water of life, poured over our lives. 00:54:50.99\00:54:54.02 But by then, there's nothing available. 00:54:54.06\00:54:55.92 So here are the answers. 00:54:55.96\00:54:57.36 The saved in Heaven can't talk to the lost in Hell. 00:54:57.39\00:54:59.73 They won't remember when the destruction is done 00:54:59.76\00:55:01.96 and they cannot communicate 00:55:02.00\00:55:03.33 because the dead don't know anything. 00:55:03.37\00:55:05.77 That's the second death, remember that. 00:55:05.80\00:55:07.70 Hell fire is the second death, and they won't know anything. 00:55:07.74\00:55:12.64 All right? 00:55:12.67\00:55:14.38 And, now let's go to the last two, 00:55:14.41\00:55:16.71 we gotta get this very quickly. 00:55:16.75\00:55:18.75 Number 29, the other point that has to be made 00:55:18.78\00:55:21.68 is all will be rewarded 00:55:21.72\00:55:23.59 at the Second Coming, not at Death. 00:55:23.62\00:55:26.05 Revelation 22:11, 00:55:26.09\00:55:27.72 let's go right immediately there. 00:55:27.76\00:55:29.69 Here it is, the decree may, 00:55:29.72\00:55:32.19 "He who is unjust, let him be," what? 00:55:32.23\00:55:35.80 "Unjust still, he who is filthy, 00:55:35.83\00:55:37.70 let him be," what? 00:55:37.73\00:55:39.07 "Filthy still, he who is righteous, 00:55:39.10\00:55:40.84 let him be," what? 00:55:40.87\00:55:42.20 "Righteous still, 00:55:42.24\00:55:43.57 he who is holy, let him be," what? 00:55:43.61\00:55:44.94 "Holy still." 00:55:44.97\00:55:46.31 And get this, verse 12, 00:55:46.34\00:55:47.68 "Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, 00:55:47.71\00:55:52.85 to give to everyone according to his work." 00:55:52.88\00:55:56.18 Here's the key, when the righteous man, 00:55:56.22\00:55:59.32 when the wicked man dies, his eventual end will be Hell. 00:55:59.35\00:56:05.26 And that's not rich in general, 00:56:05.29\00:56:07.00 I don't want to communicate that idea. 00:56:07.03\00:56:08.63 But in this particular case, 00:56:08.66\00:56:10.07 when the man who refused to relieve 00:56:10.10\00:56:14.77 the needs of the poor when he eventually died, 00:56:14.80\00:56:18.07 he found torment at the end of his life. 00:56:18.11\00:56:22.78 And why was it torment? 00:56:22.81\00:56:24.15 Because he was judged according and rewarded 00:56:24.18\00:56:26.85 according to his work. 00:56:26.88\00:56:29.72 But now let me go to the very last one, 00:56:29.75\00:56:31.09 we gotta get this, number 30. 00:56:31.12\00:56:33.29 What is the appeal that God makes to those 00:56:33.32\00:56:35.92 that are headed for Hell? 00:56:35.96\00:56:37.83 Here it is. 00:56:37.86\00:56:39.19 Let's go to Ezekiel 18:21, 00:56:39.23\00:56:43.13 "But if the wicked man turns from all his sins 00:56:43.16\00:56:45.93 which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, 00:56:45.97\00:56:48.97 and does what is lawful and right, 00:56:49.00\00:56:51.14 he shall surely live, he shall not die." 00:56:51.17\00:56:53.54 Can you say amen to that? 00:56:53.58\00:56:55.24 And the very last one, Ezekiel 18:23, 00:56:55.28\00:57:00.05 "Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?" 00:57:00.08\00:57:03.82 God asks, says the Lord, 00:57:03.85\00:57:06.72 "And not that he should turn from his ways and live?" 00:57:06.76\00:57:09.62 Amen. 00:57:09.66\00:57:10.99 That's the heart of God. 00:57:11.03\00:57:12.93 He has no pleasure in the death of anyone. 00:57:12.96\00:57:16.40 His appeal to those who are headed for destruction 00:57:16.43\00:57:18.87 is that they should turn from their ways and live. 00:57:18.90\00:57:22.57 Amen for that. 00:57:22.60\00:57:23.94 So tonight if you are not one who knows the Lord 00:57:23.97\00:57:26.27 as your Savior, 00:57:26.31\00:57:27.64 if you are one that may be fearful 00:57:27.68\00:57:29.01 for what your end may be, 00:57:29.04\00:57:32.01 there's no need to be wrapped in fear 00:57:32.05\00:57:34.38 because the appeal that Christ has made 00:57:34.42\00:57:36.82 through His Word tonight, 00:57:36.85\00:57:38.22 He has no pleasure 00:57:38.25\00:57:39.59 in the death of anyone that dies. 00:57:39.62\00:57:41.09 Matter of fact, 00:57:41.12\00:57:42.46 Hell is prepared for the devil and his angels, Matthew 25:46. 00:57:42.49\00:57:46.86 Hell is not prepared for those that Jesus created. 00:57:46.90\00:57:49.03 So here is the point, my friends, 00:57:49.06\00:57:50.70 you gotta turn your heart over to Christ. 00:57:50.73\00:57:52.83 Give your life to the Lord while time still last. 00:57:52.87\00:57:55.90 And as you study God's Word, what does not make sense, 00:57:55.94\00:57:58.94 one day will come in a sharper focus. 00:57:58.97\00:58:02.14 God bless you. 00:58:02.18\00:58:03.51
