00:04:39.81\00:04:41.14 Amen. 00:04:41.18\00:04:42.51 You know, this topic, 00:04:42.54\00:04:43.88 The Truth about the Life and Death 00:04:43.91\00:04:45.61 is a really important topic. 00:04:45.65\00:04:47.08 I was thinking about when we sometimes meet people, 00:04:47.12\00:04:50.99 you never know 00:04:51.02\00:04:52.35 what people believe when you meet them. 00:04:52.39\00:04:53.96 We were sitting down on a plane, 00:04:53.99\00:04:57.23 and talking to a young man 00:04:57.26\00:04:59.03 as we were getting ready to take off in our flight, 00:04:59.06\00:05:02.70 and we bowed our heads to pray, 00:05:02.73\00:05:05.43 and my wife prayed, and when she opened her eyes, 00:05:05.47\00:05:09.77 she saw a young man next to her praying, and she said, 00:05:09.80\00:05:13.31 "I just prayed to the Lord to give us a safe flight", 00:05:13.34\00:05:16.51 and he said, "I just prayed to my ancestors 00:05:16.54\00:05:20.72 to give me a safe flight 00:05:20.75\00:05:22.08 but I also prayed to God, he said, 00:05:22.12\00:05:23.59 "I prayed to God and I prayed to my ancestors as well." 00:05:23.62\00:05:27.32 Who told him to tell my wife that. 00:05:27.36\00:05:29.86 And she then began to say, 00:05:29.89\00:05:32.29 "Well, why would you pray to your ancestors, 00:05:32.33\00:05:34.50 aren't they dead?" 00:05:34.53\00:05:36.30 And he said, "Yes, but we pray to our ancestors", 00:05:36.33\00:05:39.27 and then I took over, and I asked him a question, 00:05:39.30\00:05:41.50 I said, "Now when you are sleeping at night 00:05:41.54\00:05:44.41 and someone talks to you, can you hear them?" 00:05:44.44\00:05:47.14 He said, "No." 00:05:47.18\00:05:48.68 I said, "If you got a phone call 00:05:48.71\00:05:50.55 and while you were sleeping during the night, 00:05:50.58\00:05:52.95 and would you hear the phone ring?" 00:05:52.98\00:05:54.45 He said, "No." 00:05:54.48\00:05:55.98 I said, "If somebody had a conversation with you 00:05:56.02\00:05:57.92 while you were deep in sleep, could you hear them?" 00:05:57.95\00:06:00.49 He said, "No." 00:06:00.52\00:06:02.29 I said, "Well, neither can your ancestors 00:06:02.32\00:06:04.63 because they're dead. 00:06:04.66\00:06:06.13 If you can't hear them when you're sleeping, 00:06:06.16\00:06:08.40 they cannot hear them when they're dead." 00:06:08.43\00:06:11.07 But, you know, there's so much being said 00:06:11.10\00:06:12.43 about what happens when a person dies. 00:06:12.47\00:06:14.47 And it is not all the truth. 00:06:14.50\00:06:17.54 Even the media sometimes does the job and says, 00:06:17.57\00:06:19.97 well, you know, this very famous person 00:06:20.01\00:06:22.71 just died, and, you know, they're in heaven now, 00:06:22.74\00:06:25.25 they're on the streets of gold, either tap dancing, 00:06:25.28\00:06:28.22 or playing the piano, or they're singing, 00:06:28.25\00:06:30.95 or they're talking to the Lord. 00:06:30.99\00:06:33.25 And then sometimes you go to funerals 00:06:33.29\00:06:34.92 and the preacher would say, 00:06:34.96\00:06:36.89 "Well, our dearly departed loved one... 00:06:36.93\00:06:40.33 Dearly departed loved one is now looking down on us 00:06:40.36\00:06:43.47 and I'm sure they're glad you're all here today." 00:06:43.50\00:06:46.23 And then later on at the service, they'll say, 00:06:46.27\00:06:48.54 "Well, as you pass by 00:06:48.57\00:06:50.37 and give your last farewells..." 00:06:50.41\00:06:52.87 They'll point to the body there 00:06:52.91\00:06:54.64 and they'll say they're somewhere else. 00:06:54.68\00:06:56.41 So there's so much confusion 00:06:56.44\00:06:57.78 about what happens when a person dies. 00:06:57.81\00:06:59.65 Tonight, we're going to begin with the topic, 00:06:59.68\00:07:01.52 the truth about the truth, 00:07:01.55\00:07:03.45 how to know the truth, the truth about life and death. 00:07:03.49\00:07:07.39 Now, you know, when you talk about a topic like this, 00:07:07.42\00:07:09.79 the best place to begin is in the beginning. 00:07:09.82\00:07:12.63 In the where? Beginning. 00:07:12.66\00:07:14.00 In the beginning. 00:07:14.03\00:07:15.36 So let's begin with our first question tonight, 00:07:15.40\00:07:17.33 comes from the Book of Genesis. 00:07:17.37\00:07:20.84 And we'll begin by reading question number one, 00:07:20.87\00:07:24.21 which is what does the Bible teach about 00:07:24.24\00:07:27.18 the creation of man? 00:07:27.21\00:07:29.58 Once again, if you'd like a copy of this lesson, 00:07:29.61\00:07:31.75 go to this website, don't put www, put 00:07:31.78\00:07:35.35 asf.3abn.org. 00:07:35.38\00:07:41.29 What does the Bible teach about the creation of man? 00:07:42.96\00:07:47.06 Now the reason why we're going to Genesis 2:7 is, 00:07:47.10\00:07:50.83 death is creation in reverse. 00:07:50.87\00:07:54.47 As God gives life, then when a person dies, 00:07:54.50\00:07:58.67 life is no longer there. 00:07:58.71\00:08:00.81 So in order to understand clearly 00:08:00.84\00:08:02.54 what happens, what man possesses, 00:08:02.58\00:08:04.78 how God made us, let's begin with Genesis 2:7. 00:08:04.81\00:08:09.62 And the Bible says, 00:08:09.65\00:08:11.25 "And the Lord God formed man of the,..." What? 00:08:11.29\00:08:13.86 Dust. 00:08:13.89\00:08:15.22 "Dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils, 00:08:15.26\00:08:20.16 the breath of life, 00:08:20.20\00:08:21.53 and man became a living..." What? 00:08:21.56\00:08:23.06 Soul. 00:08:23.10\00:08:24.43 "A living soul." 00:08:24.47\00:08:25.80 Now the reason 00:08:25.83\00:08:27.17 why I used the King James Version on that text 00:08:27.20\00:08:29.30 to begin tonight is because the word "soul" 00:08:29.34\00:08:31.97 is the word that is often the confusion. 00:08:32.01\00:08:35.58 You know, people say, "Well, his soul has departed, 00:08:35.61\00:08:39.05 " or "his soul is in heaven now, 00:08:39.08\00:08:41.35 " or "man has an immortal soul." 00:08:41.38\00:08:44.45 But what I want you to see, 00:08:44.49\00:08:45.82 there is a combination in the scripture, 00:08:45.85\00:08:47.86 if you look at verse 2 again or verse 7 of Chapter 2, 00:08:47.89\00:08:51.66 you will see two things 00:08:51.69\00:08:53.70 that ultimately forms this living soul. 00:08:53.73\00:08:59.40 What was the first thing that God formed? 00:08:59.43\00:09:01.57 Somebody tell me. 00:09:01.60\00:09:03.44 What was the first thing according to the verse 00:09:03.47\00:09:04.84 that God formed? 00:09:04.87\00:09:06.21 Man. 00:09:06.24\00:09:08.48 Okay, and what did He do it from? 00:09:08.51\00:09:11.41 Dust. Dust. 00:09:11.45\00:09:12.78 Another word we could use for dust is dirt. 00:09:12.81\00:09:14.98 Okay? 00:09:15.02\00:09:16.48 God is so magnificently large, what seems like heavy material 00:09:16.52\00:09:21.59 it was is dust to God. 00:09:21.62\00:09:22.96 You know, the Bible... 00:09:22.99\00:09:24.33 You know, we always see in the funerals, 00:09:24.36\00:09:25.69 "From dust thou art unto dust thou shalt return." 00:09:25.73\00:09:29.06 First of all, the first thing you had, 00:09:29.10\00:09:30.43 let's look at this equation here, 00:09:30.47\00:09:32.27 first you had the dust of the ground. 00:09:32.30\00:09:35.04 So God formed man. 00:09:35.07\00:09:37.61 Man did not have a form, God formed man. 00:09:37.64\00:09:40.11 And if you look at the Genesis record, 00:09:40.14\00:09:42.54 it made it clear that God formed man, 00:09:42.58\00:09:45.55 God made man in His image. 00:09:45.58\00:09:49.62 So that's the formation of man but that was first the body. 00:09:49.65\00:09:52.49 Before there was any life, there was first a body, 00:09:52.52\00:09:56.09 there was first a what? 00:09:56.12\00:09:57.46 A body. A body. 00:09:57.49\00:09:58.83 So what happens when you go to a funeral 00:09:58.86\00:10:00.20 and you have a body? 00:10:00.23\00:10:01.80 Okay, but now let's look what else God did. 00:10:01.83\00:10:04.17 And then God, according to the verse, 00:10:04.20\00:10:06.50 "God breathed into man's nostrils the..." What? 00:10:06.53\00:10:10.77 "The breath of life." 00:10:10.81\00:10:12.67 So if you could think about it this way, 00:10:12.71\00:10:15.34 we don't have the breath of life. 00:10:15.38\00:10:16.71 We could breathe, you know, we inhale, we exhale, 00:10:16.75\00:10:19.31 but we don't have the breath of life. 00:10:19.35\00:10:21.88 So we couldn't breathe into a mound of clay 00:10:21.92\00:10:25.05 and give it life but God can. 00:10:25.09\00:10:28.02 So before man 00:10:28.06\00:10:31.73 came to life, he was just dust. 00:10:31.76\00:10:34.03 But when God breathed it into his nostrils, 00:10:34.06\00:10:36.87 that clay combined with the breath of God, 00:10:36.90\00:10:40.77 the life of God, man became... 00:10:40.80\00:10:44.21 Say that word, man became. 00:10:44.24\00:10:47.34 Now what you want to get here 00:10:47.38\00:10:48.88 is not man wasn't given a living soul, 00:10:48.91\00:10:51.91 man became a living soul, so the dust of the ground, 00:10:51.95\00:10:56.62 the body, plus the breath of life, 00:10:56.65\00:10:58.99 the spirit from God equals a living soul 00:10:59.02\00:11:02.36 or as some of the new translations say, 00:11:02.39\00:11:03.96 a living being. 00:11:03.99\00:11:05.49 So if you read the NIV, 00:11:05.53\00:11:07.66 if you read the New King James version, 00:11:07.70\00:11:09.86 if you read the Amplified Bible, 00:11:09.90\00:11:11.77 if you read the American Standard, 00:11:11.80\00:11:14.37 whatever translation you read, they all say living being, 00:11:14.40\00:11:18.04 the only one that says living soul 00:11:18.07\00:11:20.44 is the King James Version. 00:11:20.48\00:11:21.94 But there's no confusion there. 00:11:21.98\00:11:23.78 Let's see what man didn't have. 00:11:23.81\00:11:25.35 So get this, man wasn't given an immortal soul, 00:11:25.38\00:11:30.09 man became a living soul. 00:11:30.12\00:11:33.69 Now you may have thought I was going to say 00:11:33.72\00:11:35.39 man became an immortal soul. 00:11:35.42\00:11:37.13 No, man wasn't given an immortal soul, 00:11:37.16\00:11:40.23 man became a living soul. 00:11:40.26\00:11:42.16 Now the reason I say that is because... 00:11:42.20\00:11:44.93 If nothing survives death, 00:11:44.97\00:11:47.54 if there's nothing that continues on 00:11:47.57\00:11:49.50 after man dies, 00:11:49.54\00:11:51.01 then that mean there's nothing about man that's immortal. 00:11:51.04\00:11:53.64 Let's see what the Bible says. 00:11:53.68\00:11:55.24 Question number two. Question number two. 00:11:55.28\00:11:57.98 So what does the Bible teach about the creation of man? 00:11:58.01\00:12:01.78 Man became a living soul. 00:12:01.82\00:12:05.25 The answer is man became a living soul. 00:12:05.29\00:12:09.12 He wasn't given a living soul. 00:12:09.16\00:12:11.86 He became a living soul. 00:12:11.89\00:12:14.43 Now let's look at question number two. 00:12:14.46\00:12:16.56 When God created man, 00:12:16.60\00:12:18.13 did man possess an immortal soul? 00:12:18.17\00:12:22.00 Go to 1 Timothy 6:16, 00:12:22.04\00:12:25.61 1 Timothy 6:16. 00:12:25.64\00:12:30.55 We've got to get an answer to this 00:12:30.58\00:12:31.91 because this isn't straightforward 00:12:31.95\00:12:33.28 as this sometimes may seem. 00:12:33.31\00:12:36.28 For whatever reason, it just happens to... 00:12:36.32\00:12:38.72 It just happens to miss the attention 00:12:38.75\00:12:41.22 of those who read the Bible. 00:12:41.26\00:12:43.22 Because many churches teach that, 00:12:43.26\00:12:46.06 you know, "They're in heaven now looking down on us." 00:12:46.09\00:12:50.03 Other people say, 00:12:50.07\00:12:51.40 "Well, now my mom is my guardian angel." 00:12:51.43\00:12:54.17 Have you heard that one before? 00:12:54.20\00:12:56.74 I know, unfortunately, 00:12:56.77\00:12:59.07 not too long ago there was a young man that was killed 00:12:59.11\00:13:02.24 and his mother said, 00:13:02.28\00:13:03.75 "Well, the thing that gives me comfort now 00:13:03.78\00:13:05.55 is he's my guardian angel." 00:13:05.58\00:13:07.25 And then sometimes 00:13:07.28\00:13:08.62 a person may die in a car accident 00:13:08.65\00:13:10.19 and somebody will say, 00:13:10.22\00:13:11.72 "Well, you know, God needed an angel, 00:13:11.75\00:13:14.36 so He took your mother" or "He took your son." 00:13:14.39\00:13:16.69 And that kind of makes God like a hitman. 00:13:16.73\00:13:19.49 But God is not a hitman, 00:13:19.53\00:13:20.86 God doesn't kill people to populate heaven. 00:13:20.90\00:13:24.63 And that's an unfortunate rap that God gets. 00:13:24.67\00:13:27.27 So we want to make it clear how this all happens. 00:13:27.30\00:13:30.21 So let's go ahead and see what 1 Timothy 6:16 says. 00:13:30.24\00:13:34.88 1 Timothy Chapter 6. 00:13:34.91\00:13:36.38 When God created man, 00:13:36.41\00:13:37.75 did man possess an immortal soul? 00:13:37.78\00:13:39.75 1 Timothy 6:16 speaking about God, 00:13:39.78\00:13:44.02 it reads as follows, 00:13:44.05\00:13:45.92 "Who alone has..." 00:13:45.95\00:13:47.62 What is the next word? 00:13:47.66\00:13:49.02 Immortality. 00:13:49.06\00:13:50.39 "Immortality 00:13:50.43\00:13:52.03 dwelling in unapproachable light, 00:13:52.06\00:13:56.10 whom no man has seen or can see, 00:13:56.13\00:14:01.67 to whom the honor and everlasting power, " 00:14:01.70\00:14:06.07 and the next word is "amen." 00:14:06.11\00:14:08.51 Okay, now what I want to get here, 00:14:08.54\00:14:10.25 if you read the New King James Version, 00:14:10.28\00:14:12.18 you see it says, 00:14:12.21\00:14:13.55 "Who alone has immortality 00:14:13.58\00:14:14.92 dwelling in unapproachable light." 00:14:14.95\00:14:16.89 But the King James Version says, 00:14:16.92\00:14:18.55 "Dwelling in the light 00:14:18.59\00:14:19.92 which no man can approach unto." 00:14:19.95\00:14:22.56 Now this is really important 00:14:22.59\00:14:23.93 because I don't know how many years ago, 00:14:23.96\00:14:25.99 it's got to be... 00:14:26.03\00:14:27.36 Maybe about 20 years ago, all of a sudden, 00:14:27.40\00:14:29.73 there's this new phenomenon that came out, 00:14:29.76\00:14:31.60 people kept saying, 00:14:31.63\00:14:32.97 "You know, when I was on the operation table, 00:14:33.00\00:14:36.44 I was pronounced dead, and I went towards the light. 00:14:36.47\00:14:41.38 I saw this bright light, and it embraced me, 00:14:41.41\00:14:44.68 and I felt like I was in the presence of God." 00:14:44.71\00:14:49.12 They didn't see an image but they felt... 00:14:49.15\00:14:52.02 "You know, I felt this warm light 00:14:52.05\00:14:54.82 and I went toward this light." 00:14:54.86\00:14:56.42 And then there are some that said, 00:14:56.46\00:14:58.16 "You know, 00:14:58.19\00:14:59.53 I went toward the slide, and then I came back, 00:14:59.56\00:15:02.33 and next thing I knew, 00:15:02.36\00:15:04.00 I was awake on the operating table." 00:15:04.03\00:15:07.14 And so they call this the blank death experience. 00:15:07.17\00:15:11.77 What's that phrase there? What's the word? 00:15:11.81\00:15:13.38 Near death. Near death experience. 00:15:13.41\00:15:15.64 But I want you to notice something here. 00:15:15.68\00:15:17.48 Let me ask the question, who alone has immortality? 00:15:17.51\00:15:20.38 Somebody tell me. 00:15:20.42\00:15:21.75 God. God alone. 00:15:21.78\00:15:23.85 God alone. 00:15:23.89\00:15:25.39 No man has immortality, which means, 00:15:25.42\00:15:29.49 if man does not have immortality, 00:15:29.52\00:15:31.63 when man dies, what happens? 00:15:31.66\00:15:34.50 He dies. 00:15:34.53\00:15:36.30 You know, have you ever bought a car battery that's immortal? 00:15:36.33\00:15:41.80 No, now you have, 00:15:41.84\00:15:43.17 there are rechargeable batteries, 00:15:43.20\00:15:45.37 but there are no immortal car batteries. 00:15:45.41\00:15:47.51 When that battery dies, 00:15:47.54\00:15:49.14 you don't put it in another car for it to work. 00:15:49.18\00:15:51.91 Right? 00:15:51.95\00:15:53.28 In the very same way, when man dies, 00:15:53.31\00:15:55.45 he doesn't work in the different environment. 00:15:55.48\00:15:58.42 And that's the kind of teaching that happens nowadays as well, 00:15:58.45\00:16:01.32 and I don't want to be... 00:16:01.36\00:16:02.69 I don't want to sound like a broken record 00:16:02.72\00:16:04.06 but I want to make a point, 00:16:04.09\00:16:05.43 we think that they're in heaven now, 00:16:05.46\00:16:06.86 having a picnic with God or well... 00:16:06.90\00:16:10.77 And then we... and then... 00:16:10.80\00:16:12.13 I know some people that 00:16:12.17\00:16:13.50 one of the reasons we have in America, 00:16:13.54\00:16:15.00 we have something called Memorial Day. 00:16:15.04\00:16:18.07 And Memorial Day is a day that people remember people. 00:16:18.11\00:16:21.51 That's why it's called Memorial, 00:16:21.54\00:16:22.94 kind of memory. 00:16:22.98\00:16:24.31 And they have memorials. 00:16:24.35\00:16:25.68 And a lot of people visit the cemeteries. 00:16:25.71\00:16:28.25 I remember being in New York growing up, 00:16:28.28\00:16:30.22 and sometimes 00:16:30.25\00:16:31.59 we'd go to the cemetery on Memorial Day, 00:16:31.62\00:16:33.62 and we would put flowers on the cemetery... 00:16:33.66\00:16:37.13 on the grave. 00:16:37.16\00:16:38.83 And I didn't understand for years, 00:16:38.86\00:16:41.00 what that was all about 00:16:41.03\00:16:43.53 until I read the Bible years later and it says, 00:16:43.57\00:16:46.90 you know, his sons come to honor him 00:16:46.94\00:16:48.80 and he does not know it, 00:16:48.84\00:16:50.17 they have brought loaf and he does not perceive it. 00:16:50.21\00:16:52.74 And then I also saw this happen in New York, 00:16:52.77\00:16:55.48 some of the Asians would bring fruits, 00:16:55.51\00:16:57.88 they'd put fruits on the cemetery. 00:16:57.91\00:16:59.81 And I always wondered, 00:16:59.85\00:17:01.18 how long those fruits would be there 00:17:01.22\00:17:03.59 because I knew, I knew their dead loved ones 00:17:03.62\00:17:07.16 was not going to eat those fruits. 00:17:07.19\00:17:09.89 So I wondered if they were not there the next day, 00:17:09.92\00:17:12.03 chances are somebody knew that that's the place 00:17:12.06\00:17:15.56 they could find some food that night 00:17:15.60\00:17:17.27 and when got the fruit. 00:17:17.30\00:17:18.63 Because I want to make it very clear, 00:17:18.67\00:17:20.14 dead people don't eat anything. 00:17:20.17\00:17:22.97 All right? 00:17:23.00\00:17:24.34 So who only has immortality, put the answer to number two, 00:17:24.37\00:17:27.78 God only. 00:17:27.81\00:17:29.38 When God created man, 00:17:29.41\00:17:30.75 did man possessed an immortal soul? 00:17:30.78\00:17:32.11 No, only God. 00:17:32.15\00:17:34.02 Go now to question number three. 00:17:34.05\00:17:36.32 Very fascinating topic. 00:17:36.35\00:17:37.89 It's a topic... 00:17:37.92\00:17:39.25 Although we have 21 questions... 00:17:39.29\00:17:42.32 I think there's a game called 21 questions 00:17:42.36\00:17:44.13 but this is not a game. 00:17:44.16\00:17:46.59 Question number three, a very important question. 00:17:46.63\00:17:49.93 By the way, they all are important 00:17:49.96\00:17:51.30 because they unfold something more 00:17:51.33\00:17:53.40 about what the Bible teaches concerning death. 00:17:53.44\00:17:56.44 Question number three. 00:17:56.47\00:17:58.64 So I'm going to give a different tag to this, 00:17:58.67\00:18:01.78 since man is not immortal, 00:18:01.81\00:18:04.85 what classification does the Bible give to man? 00:18:04.88\00:18:08.55 Since man is not immortal, 00:18:08.58\00:18:10.89 what classification does the Bible give to man? 00:18:10.92\00:18:13.52 Job 4:17. 00:18:13.56\00:18:17.59 Now as you're turning to Job, what I want to make very clear, 00:18:17.63\00:18:22.03 do you think it's safe to get our answers from the Bible? 00:18:22.06\00:18:25.20 Come on, give me an amen if you think so. 00:18:25.23\00:18:26.57 Amen. 00:18:26.60\00:18:27.94 So why is it not... 00:18:27.97\00:18:30.37 Why is it not equally as important to just base 00:18:30.41\00:18:34.38 what we think on what other people say? 00:18:34.41\00:18:36.98 Why is it not important? 00:18:40.65\00:18:42.95 Okay, let me just ask, is it important to match 00:18:42.98\00:18:45.92 what the Bible says with what people teach? 00:18:45.95\00:18:48.72 Or which one supersedes which? 00:18:48.76\00:18:51.89 The Bible is superseding men 00:18:51.93\00:18:53.40 because the Bible is God's Word. 00:18:53.43\00:18:55.86 So since God is the Creator, He ought to be the only one 00:18:55.90\00:18:59.93 that knows best what happens to His creation 00:18:59.97\00:19:02.30 when death comes, right? 00:19:02.34\00:19:03.84 So let's look at Job 4:17. 00:19:03.87\00:19:06.14 Job is right before the big book of Psalms. 00:19:06.17\00:19:09.44 Okay, here's what the Bible says. 00:19:09.48\00:19:12.41 "Can a..." 00:19:12.45\00:19:14.35 Say the next word with me, 00:19:14.38\00:19:15.98 "can a mortal be more righteous than God? 00:19:16.02\00:19:20.52 Can a man be more pure than his maker?" 00:19:20.56\00:19:24.99 Now what keyword did we find in that passage? 00:19:25.03\00:19:27.86 Say it. Mortal. 00:19:27.90\00:19:29.23 Mortal. 00:19:29.26\00:19:30.60 God, immortal. Man, mortal. 00:19:30.63\00:19:34.00 So that right away, if somebody ever tries to tell you 00:19:34.04\00:19:36.20 that you're God, no, you're a mere mortal. 00:19:36.24\00:19:41.48 A mere mortal. 00:19:41.51\00:19:43.28 So the answer is, 00:19:43.31\00:19:44.65 what classification does the Bible give to man, 00:19:44.68\00:19:48.52 together, the answer is mortal. 00:19:48.55\00:19:51.19 We are mortals. 00:19:51.22\00:19:53.15 Now I want to just make it clear. 00:19:53.19\00:19:56.12 One day we will be immortal, but it's not when we die, 00:19:56.16\00:20:01.10 and it's not at the point of creation. 00:20:01.13\00:20:03.16 We don't have a body 00:20:03.20\00:20:05.33 that has this immortal facet to it. 00:20:05.37\00:20:08.90 And we'll discover why. 00:20:08.94\00:20:10.64 But we're laying the foundation. 00:20:10.67\00:20:12.14 You see, one of the things that... 00:20:12.17\00:20:14.41 One of the reasons 00:20:14.44\00:20:15.78 why we cannot wait for the Lord to come, 00:20:15.81\00:20:17.85 we live with a yearning, what word did I just use? 00:20:17.88\00:20:20.58 A yearning. A yearning. 00:20:20.62\00:20:22.28 One of the reasons why people say, 00:20:22.32\00:20:24.15 "I can't wait for Jesus to come." 00:20:24.19\00:20:26.96 Let me ask you a very... 00:20:26.99\00:20:28.89 I want you to think about this before you answer, 00:20:28.92\00:20:31.99 what is the mortality rate? 00:20:32.03\00:20:35.26 And I want you to give me a percentage. 00:20:35.30\00:20:36.67 What is the mortality rate? 00:20:36.70\00:20:38.93 Okay, in other words, what percentage of people die? 00:20:38.97\00:20:42.17 A hundred percent. 00:20:42.20\00:20:43.71 One hundred percent, okay. 00:20:43.74\00:20:45.34 So the mortality rate to this day is what? 00:20:45.37\00:20:48.24 One hundred percent. 00:20:48.28\00:20:49.84 Except for two characters in the Bible. 00:20:49.88\00:20:54.78 Enoch walked with God and was not, for God took him. 00:20:54.82\00:20:59.19 All right? Enoch didn't die. 00:20:59.22\00:21:01.16 Who's the other guy? 00:21:01.19\00:21:02.82 Elijah was swept away in a chariot of fire. 00:21:02.86\00:21:06.09 The only third one we know of is? 00:21:06.13\00:21:09.83 Who came forth? 00:21:09.86\00:21:11.23 Moses. 00:21:11.27\00:21:12.60 So we only have record of three. 00:21:12.63\00:21:15.90 The other record we have 00:21:15.94\00:21:17.27 is that the resurrection of Jesus, 00:21:17.31\00:21:18.91 those who came forth and were taken as 00:21:18.94\00:21:21.64 first fruits of those who had slept. 00:21:21.68\00:21:23.75 But outside of that, 00:21:23.78\00:21:25.11 we don't have records of people 00:21:25.15\00:21:26.48 just darting on their way to heaven every time they die. 00:21:26.51\00:21:29.78 Have no scriptural record of that at all. 00:21:29.82\00:21:31.85 So right now, 00:21:31.89\00:21:33.22 we've come up to a very significant conclusion. 00:21:33.25\00:21:35.96 That is this. 00:21:35.99\00:21:37.49 We are mortal, God is immortal, 00:21:37.53\00:21:40.30 man does not have an immortal soul, 00:21:40.33\00:21:43.20 man does not... 00:21:43.23\00:21:44.57 Man was not given a soul, man is a soul, 00:21:44.60\00:21:50.01 which means simply in the English language, 00:21:50.04\00:21:51.94 a living being. 00:21:51.97\00:21:53.94 Question number four. Question number four. 00:21:53.98\00:21:57.01 Because Paul the Apostle chimes in and hears... 00:21:57.05\00:22:00.08 Let me just lay some foundation, 00:22:00.12\00:22:02.02 you know, if you don't have something, 00:22:02.05\00:22:04.02 you yearn for it or you desire to have it, like children. 00:22:04.05\00:22:07.66 When November comes, what is children yearning for? 00:22:07.69\00:22:12.23 What mindset do they get? 00:22:12.26\00:22:14.76 They begin to get into the Christmas mindset. 00:22:14.80\00:22:17.33 They start yearning. 00:22:17.37\00:22:19.20 They start putting the list together. 00:22:19.23\00:22:20.74 They start saying, 00:22:20.77\00:22:22.10 "Mommy, Daddy, I want something." 00:22:22.14\00:22:24.77 And they wouldn't want it, if they already have it. 00:22:24.81\00:22:27.61 All right? 00:22:27.64\00:22:28.98 Paul the Apostle, 00:22:29.01\00:22:30.35 Paul the Apostle also sets it up this way, 00:22:30.38\00:22:32.41 he says, 00:22:32.45\00:22:33.78 "There's something that 00:22:33.82\00:22:35.78 we groan for, we yearn for, 00:22:35.82\00:22:39.52 and the reason why we yearn for it 00:22:39.55\00:22:41.32 is because we don't have it." 00:22:41.36\00:22:43.63 All right. 00:22:43.66\00:22:44.99 What did Paul the Apostle describe 00:22:45.03\00:22:47.26 as man's constant yearning? 00:22:47.30\00:22:49.40 2 Corinthians 5:4. 00:22:49.43\00:22:54.37 2 Corinthians 5:4. 00:22:54.40\00:22:57.31 Matter of fact, you're turning there, 00:22:57.34\00:22:58.67 let me go ahead and turn there 00:22:58.71\00:23:00.04 because I may want to add more than just one verse to that, 00:23:00.08\00:23:03.75 even though I suggested verse 4. 00:23:03.78\00:23:07.22 All right? 00:23:07.25\00:23:08.58 Okay, here we are. 00:23:08.62\00:23:10.25 2 Corinthians 5:4, 00:23:10.29\00:23:12.82 he says, 00:23:12.85\00:23:15.72 "For we 00:23:15.76\00:23:17.96 who are in this tent..." 00:23:17.99\00:23:21.10 Now what's another word for tent in this verse? 00:23:21.13\00:23:23.90 Body. 00:23:23.93\00:23:26.10 Body, thank you there. 00:23:26.13\00:23:27.47 Body. 00:23:27.50\00:23:28.84 If you're in a tent, he calls it there a tent, 00:23:28.87\00:23:32.17 "We who are in this tent groan, being burdened, 00:23:32.21\00:23:37.88 not because we want to be unclothed, 00:23:37.91\00:23:41.68 but further clothed." 00:23:41.72\00:23:44.92 And you'll find out in just a moment what he means 00:23:44.95\00:23:46.86 because he's still in this term back, clothed, unclothed, 00:23:46.89\00:23:50.49 not clothed, further clothed. 00:23:50.53\00:23:52.73 I'm going to go ahead and tell you what he means 00:23:52.76\00:23:54.10 because this is a text that if you take it by itself 00:23:54.13\00:23:57.50 and just didn't add anything more to it, 00:23:57.53\00:23:59.50 you may come to the conclusion that Paul is saying, 00:23:59.53\00:24:01.64 "Well, do I want to be in this body? 00:24:01.67\00:24:03.34 Do I want to be out of this body?" 00:24:03.37\00:24:05.01 What's the deal here? 00:24:05.04\00:24:06.44 But he goes on to make his point very clear. 00:24:06.47\00:24:09.11 He says, "Not because we want to be unclothed, 00:24:09.14\00:24:12.78 but further closed, that," what is the next word? 00:24:12.81\00:24:17.45 "That mortality maybe swallowed up by..." What? 00:24:17.49\00:24:20.89 Life. "Life." 00:24:20.92\00:24:22.26 Now I'm going to jump ahead of the game 00:24:22.29\00:24:23.63 and come back to that. 00:24:23.66\00:24:24.99 Could I do that? 00:24:25.03\00:24:26.36 I'm going to jump way ahead 00:24:26.39\00:24:27.73 and I'm going to go to a passage 00:24:27.76\00:24:29.10 that does not appear on our syllabus 00:24:29.13\00:24:31.53 and it's not there intentionally 00:24:31.57\00:24:33.13 because it's dealing 00:24:33.17\00:24:34.50 with the topic of the resurrection. 00:24:34.54\00:24:37.17 But I have to dive all the way down there 00:24:37.21\00:24:39.47 so that you can understand what Paul means 00:24:39.51\00:24:41.91 when he says that 00:24:41.94\00:24:43.41 "Mortality maybe swallowed up by life." 00:24:43.45\00:24:48.38 So let me ask you the two words, 00:24:48.42\00:24:50.52 he's looking forward to life, right? 00:24:50.55\00:24:53.79 But he wants mortality to be swallowed up by life. 00:24:53.82\00:24:57.46 So let's get this now. 00:24:57.49\00:24:58.93 Life, this is life, this is mortality, 00:24:58.96\00:25:02.66 life comes along and swallows mortality. 00:25:02.70\00:25:07.80 So what no longer exists? 00:25:07.84\00:25:09.74 Somebody tell me. 00:25:09.77\00:25:12.14 You can say it. 00:25:12.17\00:25:13.81 If life swallows up mortality, what's left? 00:25:13.84\00:25:17.58 Life. 00:25:17.61\00:25:18.95 Life. 00:25:18.98\00:25:20.68 What's not left? 00:25:20.72\00:25:22.35 Mortality. 00:25:22.38\00:25:23.72 Mortality gets swallowed up with something else. 00:25:23.75\00:25:26.86 So mortality in other words is replaced. 00:25:26.89\00:25:30.63 Okay, now go to 1 Corinthians Chapter 15. 00:25:30.66\00:25:33.40 Mortality is replaced 00:25:33.43\00:25:35.66 and the reason I ask you for the word... 00:25:35.70\00:25:37.57 What does the word tent mean 00:25:37.60\00:25:39.83 is because the entire chapter of 1 Corinthians 15 00:25:39.87\00:25:44.01 deals with this tent and deals with the very thing 00:25:44.04\00:25:49.01 that's going to swallow up morality. 00:25:49.04\00:25:52.25 Now I'm going to jump to these last verses, 00:25:52.28\00:25:54.08 and let's go ahead and look at 1 Corinthians Chapter 15, 00:25:54.12\00:25:58.65 and let's go ahead and go down to... 00:25:58.69\00:26:03.53 verse 53. 00:26:03.56\00:26:05.39 I want to leave some of the other for later on 00:26:05.43\00:26:08.36 because after we understand 00:26:08.40\00:26:10.17 what happens when a person dies, 00:26:10.20\00:26:12.03 then we are going to deal 00:26:12.07\00:26:13.40 with why there needs to be a resurrection. 00:26:13.44\00:26:16.10 All right? 00:26:16.14\00:26:17.47 But verse 53 of 1 Corinthians Chapter 15, 00:26:17.51\00:26:21.61 "But for this corruptible must put on incorruption, 00:26:21.64\00:26:25.88 and this, " say it with me, "mortal must put on..." What? 00:26:25.91\00:26:30.72 "Immortality." 00:26:30.75\00:26:33.42 "So when this corruptible has put on incorruption 00:26:33.46\00:26:38.59 and this mortal has put on immortality, 00:26:38.63\00:26:43.16 then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, 00:26:43.20\00:26:47.90 Death is..." What? 00:26:47.94\00:26:49.50 Swallowed. 00:26:49.54\00:26:50.94 "Swallowed up in..." What? 00:26:50.97\00:26:53.61 "Victory." 00:26:53.64\00:26:54.98 Now if you remember now, 00:26:55.01\00:26:56.44 you got to get your hats on now, 00:26:56.48\00:26:57.91 you got your hats on? 00:26:57.95\00:26:59.28 When we read 2 Corinthians 5:4, 00:26:59.31\00:27:02.12 there are two other words that are there, 00:27:02.15\00:27:03.82 not only is mortality 00:27:03.85\00:27:06.05 but Paul uses the word "swallowed" 00:27:06.09\00:27:08.12 in both of these verses. 00:27:08.16\00:27:10.33 Mortality swallowed up by a life and here, 00:27:10.36\00:27:15.43 death swallowed up by victory. 00:27:15.46\00:27:18.13 Okay, we got to get something here. 00:27:18.17\00:27:20.37 Are you ready? This is huge. 00:27:20.40\00:27:22.94 Call your friends, this is huge. 00:27:22.97\00:27:25.21 Are you ready? 00:27:25.24\00:27:26.57 Now mortality is compared to death. 00:27:26.61\00:27:30.95 Because mortality 00:27:30.98\00:27:32.75 is going to be swallowed up by life 00:27:32.78\00:27:34.78 and death is going to be swallowed up by victory. 00:27:34.82\00:27:38.82 Did you get that? 00:27:38.85\00:27:40.32 So mortality is equated to death. 00:27:40.36\00:27:45.13 If you're mortal, you're going to die. 00:27:45.16\00:27:48.23 Can I get an amen? Amen. 00:27:48.26\00:27:50.13 Everybody that's mortal has died. 00:27:50.17\00:27:52.93 Okay, we're still alive, 00:27:52.97\00:27:55.47 but if you're more than 120 years old, 00:27:55.50\00:27:57.57 I don't know of anybody... 00:27:57.61\00:27:58.94 If there's somebody older than 120 watching this program, 00:27:58.97\00:28:01.41 please, let me know. 00:28:01.44\00:28:03.14 I don't want to offend anybody. 00:28:03.18\00:28:05.25 But chances are in a 120 years, 00:28:05.28\00:28:07.28 almost everybody on this planet, 00:28:07.32\00:28:08.98 if the Lord doesn't come, will be dead. 00:28:09.02\00:28:11.79 That's a fact. 00:28:11.82\00:28:13.99 So what has happened, the reason why they're dead 00:28:14.02\00:28:15.56 is because 00:28:15.59\00:28:16.93 the only thing that mortality can give you is death. 00:28:16.96\00:28:21.16 But when life comes, victory comes. 00:28:21.20\00:28:23.70 Amen? 00:28:23.73\00:28:25.07 So what kind of life do you get? 00:28:25.10\00:28:27.87 What kind of life do you get? 00:28:27.90\00:28:30.21 Say it, Dan. 00:28:30.24\00:28:32.07 You get eternal life. 00:28:32.11\00:28:34.21 John 3:16, come on, let's say it together, 00:28:34.24\00:28:36.85 "For God so loved the world, 00:28:36.88\00:28:39.21 that He gave His only begotten Son, 00:28:39.25\00:28:42.02 that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, 00:28:42.05\00:28:46.55 but have everlasting life." 00:28:46.59\00:28:50.03 So therefore, if death is swallowed up by victory, 00:28:50.06\00:28:54.96 then mortality is swallowed up by everlasting life 00:28:55.00\00:28:59.43 not just life because if it was just swallowed up by life, 00:28:59.47\00:29:02.10 it'd be the very same thing 00:29:02.14\00:29:03.47 because we all have life right now. 00:29:03.51\00:29:04.84 Right? 00:29:04.87\00:29:06.21 But what kind of life do we have right now? 00:29:06.24\00:29:07.58 We have mortal life. 00:29:07.61\00:29:08.94 But what kind of life did Paul say 00:29:08.98\00:29:10.35 we're going to have in 1 Corinthians 15:53-54? 00:29:10.38\00:29:14.92 What kind of life are we going to have? 00:29:14.95\00:29:16.65 Immortal life. 00:29:16.69\00:29:19.49 Amen? Amen. 00:29:19.52\00:29:20.86 We don't have it yet. 00:29:20.89\00:29:22.52 And when are we going to have it? 00:29:22.56\00:29:23.89 Now let's go back to verse 52, 00:29:23.93\00:29:25.89 matter of fact, go to verse 51. 00:29:25.93\00:29:28.10 I know you're going to remember this 00:29:28.13\00:29:29.46 when I come back 00:29:29.50\00:29:30.83 but I need to go over this pavement twice, 00:29:30.87\00:29:33.34 need to go over this pavement twice. 00:29:33.37\00:29:35.37 Verse 51 of 1 Corinthians Chapter 15, 00:29:35.40\00:29:38.14 "Behold, I show you or tell you a mystery, 00:29:38.17\00:29:41.68 we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be..." What? 00:29:41.71\00:29:44.31 "Changed." 00:29:44.35\00:29:45.68 We're going to change from what? 00:29:45.71\00:29:47.05 Verse 52. 00:29:47.08\00:29:48.42 When are we going to change is the first question. 00:29:48.45\00:29:50.02 "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the..." What? 00:29:50.05\00:29:55.59 "At the last trump or last trumpet, 00:29:55.62\00:29:59.46 for the trumpet will sound 00:29:59.49\00:30:01.60 and the dead will be raised incorruptible, 00:30:01.63\00:30:05.07 and we shall be..." What? 00:30:05.10\00:30:06.43 "Changed." 00:30:06.47\00:30:07.80 Now let me also add something here, 00:30:07.84\00:30:09.20 incorruptible, and death, and mortality are brothers. 00:30:09.24\00:30:14.94 Sorry, corruptible, corruptible, mortality, 00:30:14.98\00:30:19.41 and death are brothers. 00:30:19.45\00:30:20.85 I just said incorruptible, right? 00:30:20.88\00:30:22.72 Corruptible, mortality, and death are brothers. 00:30:22.75\00:30:26.65 Let me go ahead and add this together. 00:30:26.69\00:30:29.06 What does corruptible mean? 00:30:29.09\00:30:31.33 That means we get to a peak in life 00:30:31.36\00:30:33.70 and then we start dying. 00:30:33.73\00:30:35.86 Life is like a cycle, it's like a wave, a sine wave. 00:30:35.90\00:30:39.60 But it doesn't keep growing like this, 00:30:39.63\00:30:41.60 it just goes like this, 00:30:41.64\00:30:43.71 and then it starts going like this. 00:30:43.74\00:30:45.77 In other words, we all have a peak in the world 00:30:45.81\00:30:48.34 at some point in our lives, 00:30:48.38\00:30:49.98 and then we all start heading down the sliding board, 00:30:50.01\00:30:52.55 and at the end of the siding board, 00:30:52.58\00:30:53.92 there's a big old hole, six feet deep. 00:30:53.95\00:30:56.95 It's called a grave. 00:30:56.99\00:30:58.32 Grave. 00:30:58.35\00:30:59.85 And we don't know when that's going to be 00:30:59.89\00:31:01.79 because we don't know when our death date is, 00:31:01.82\00:31:03.76 you know, like my good friend Richard Ofield, 00:31:03.79\00:31:05.76 He says, "I know when I'm going to die, 2000... 00:31:05.79\00:31:10.03 I can't see the last two numbers." 00:31:10.07\00:31:12.83 We're all going to die. 00:31:12.87\00:31:14.30 We're all going to die. It's a sad, sad truth. 00:31:14.34\00:31:18.31 That's why we all need Jesus, right? 00:31:18.34\00:31:19.71 Amen. 00:31:19.74\00:31:21.08 Because He said, Paul... 00:31:21.11\00:31:22.44 I mean, Peter said, 00:31:22.48\00:31:23.81 he is not willing that any should perish, and John, 00:31:23.85\00:31:28.08 "Whosoever believeth in Him should not perish." 00:31:28.12\00:31:31.25 He is not willing for us to perish 00:31:31.29\00:31:32.92 and John said, "If you believe in Him, 00:31:32.95\00:31:34.29 you won't perish. 00:31:34.32\00:31:36.29 You'll go from mortal..." To what? 00:31:36.32\00:31:38.76 "Immortal, from corruptible to..." What? 00:31:38.79\00:31:41.40 "Incorruptible," which means... 00:31:41.43\00:31:43.16 What does corruptible mean? 00:31:43.20\00:31:44.53 Well, you know what corruptible means. 00:31:44.57\00:31:45.90 There was a time I didn't need contact lenses 00:31:45.93\00:31:48.87 but I need it now, why? 00:31:48.90\00:31:50.24 Because my eyes are corruptible. 00:31:50.27\00:31:52.87 That means they're getting bad. 00:31:52.91\00:31:55.98 And I'll leave it right there. 00:31:56.01\00:31:58.25 Every one of us has something that reminds us 00:31:58.28\00:32:01.32 that the grave is closer. 00:32:01.35\00:32:02.88 You know, what they say in life, 00:32:02.92\00:32:04.25 you know, when you're a teenager, 00:32:04.29\00:32:06.52 you think that you've got all the gusto, 00:32:06.55\00:32:08.72 you've about to rear up, and everything is ahead of you. 00:32:08.76\00:32:11.83 When you hit 20, you're even more excited. 00:32:11.86\00:32:14.33 When you hit 30, 00:32:14.36\00:32:15.70 you start diving in your career. 00:32:15.73\00:32:17.50 When you hit 40, 00:32:17.53\00:32:18.87 you are spending money like a nut. 00:32:18.90\00:32:21.20 When you hit... 00:32:21.24\00:32:22.57 You get into your 50s you start slowing down 00:32:22.60\00:32:24.14 because you realize you have so much possessions. 00:32:24.17\00:32:26.34 They say, "When you hit 60s 00:32:26.37\00:32:27.71 you start thinking about a giving step away." 00:32:27.74\00:32:30.21 And if by God's chance you make 70, 00:32:30.25\00:32:31.95 you start thinking of your legacy, 00:32:31.98\00:32:33.38 what am I going to leave behind. 00:32:33.42\00:32:35.08 If you make it pass that, to God be the glory 00:32:35.12\00:32:37.09 because He says man's life span is what? 00:32:37.12\00:32:39.55 Threescore and 10. 00:32:39.59\00:32:42.69 It's amazing how that works. 00:32:42.72\00:32:44.26 We've got this up and down cycle. 00:32:44.29\00:32:46.26 For people that don't want to believe that, 00:32:46.29\00:32:48.00 they all face a midlife crisis. 00:32:48.03\00:32:50.73 That's the fact. 00:32:50.77\00:32:52.10 They don't want to go down that road. 00:32:52.13\00:32:53.47 So you have some guys that are getting to the point 00:32:53.50\00:32:55.34 where they realize, "I'm at the top of my..." 00:32:55.37\00:32:57.84 "I'm way past my peak and I'm on my way down 00:32:57.87\00:33:00.31 but I don't want to look like it." 00:33:00.34\00:33:02.14 So they go out, you know, way before, 00:33:02.18\00:33:05.31 way past their youthful years and they start dressing like 00:33:05.35\00:33:07.58 they're young men. 00:33:07.62\00:33:08.95 Yeah. 00:33:08.98\00:33:10.32 They start hanging around with way young people 00:33:10.35\00:33:11.69 than they should be hanging around 00:33:11.72\00:33:13.05 and start doing things that their bodies cannot handle. 00:33:13.09\00:33:15.46 That's a midlife crisis. 00:33:15.49\00:33:17.13 We've got to come to the realization 00:33:17.16\00:33:18.86 that if you want life, 00:33:18.89\00:33:20.23 you've got to get eternal life from Jesus. 00:33:20.26\00:33:21.76 Amen? Amen. 00:33:21.80\00:33:23.16 It doesn't come from us, it comes from the Lord. 00:33:23.20\00:33:26.20 Now so let's go back to question number four, 00:33:26.23\00:33:29.10 what did Paul the Apostle describe 00:33:29.14\00:33:30.77 as man's constant yearning? 00:33:30.81\00:33:32.91 His constant yearning is that 00:33:32.94\00:33:34.91 mortality may be swallowed up by life. 00:33:34.94\00:33:38.68 His constant yearning is to be immortal. 00:33:38.71\00:33:42.35 To be immortal. 00:33:42.38\00:33:44.25 People are... 00:33:44.29\00:33:46.15 One person, I remember one person said that... 00:33:46.19\00:33:50.93 Asked the question whether or not 00:33:54.16\00:33:56.00 he would like to live forever 00:33:56.03\00:33:58.40 and he said, 00:33:58.43\00:33:59.77 "Only if all my friends could also live forever 00:33:59.80\00:34:03.74 because," he said, "If I am the only one 00:34:03.77\00:34:05.17 that can live forever, 00:34:05.21\00:34:07.08 I'll be watching people die my whole life." 00:34:07.11\00:34:12.45 But the beauty of heaven is we're going to all have 00:34:12.48\00:34:14.78 eternal life together. 00:34:14.82\00:34:16.15 Amen? Amen. 00:34:16.18\00:34:17.59 But if you're faithful, if you're faithful, 00:34:17.62\00:34:20.36 one day this mortal body 00:34:20.39\00:34:22.82 will be replaced with one that's perfect, 00:34:22.86\00:34:24.83 no more signs of death. 00:34:24.86\00:34:27.00 Would not be able to be corruptible, 00:34:27.03\00:34:29.43 in other words, hair won't be falling out, turning gray, 00:34:29.46\00:34:32.00 our joints won't be hurting, our back won't be aching. 00:34:32.03\00:34:35.90 When I was a young man, nothing hurt. 00:34:35.94\00:34:38.11 Now everything hurts. 00:34:38.14\00:34:39.87 We all know what we're talking about, right? 00:34:39.91\00:34:41.74 But, you know, sometimes we get in denial, 00:34:41.78\00:34:43.55 we say, "Well, I just twisted my knee." 00:34:43.58\00:34:45.75 That's a good excuse, but one day you discover, 00:34:45.78\00:34:48.28 you twist your knee all the time 00:34:48.32\00:34:49.65 because it's always hurting. 00:34:49.68\00:34:51.15 That's the fact of the matter is the death... 00:34:51.19\00:34:53.46 The death knell is getting a lot closer. 00:34:53.49\00:34:55.82 So let's all make sure that if you start feeling pain 00:34:55.86\00:34:58.33 that shouldn't be there, 00:34:58.36\00:34:59.69 you better become acquainted with Jesus. 00:34:59.73\00:35:01.83 That's your only hope. The body. 00:44:44.51\00:44:45.85 So the body goes, back to what? 00:44:45.88\00:44:47.55 Back to the earth. 00:44:47.58\00:44:48.92 Thus you get that phrase from dust thou art 00:44:48.95\00:44:52.35 unto dust thou shall return. 00:44:52.39\00:44:56.06 This is really powerful 00:44:56.09\00:44:57.43 because if you don't put this together, 00:44:57.46\00:45:00.56 you get a distorted understanding 00:45:00.60\00:45:02.03 where we end up. 00:45:02.06\00:45:05.17 Then the dust will, what's the next word? 00:45:05.20\00:45:08.97 Then the dust will, what's the next word? 00:45:09.00\00:45:11.54 Say return with me everybody, return. 00:45:11.57\00:45:13.94 So okay, the dust is going back to where it came from. 00:45:13.98\00:45:19.65 Now let's go to the rest of it now, 00:45:19.68\00:45:21.78 "It's going back to the earth, 00:45:21.82\00:45:24.32 and the spirit will return..." 00:45:24.35\00:45:27.72 You see the word in this verse twice return, return, 00:45:27.76\00:45:31.69 the spirit returns to God the dust returns to the earth. 00:45:31.73\00:45:35.20 Now before I give you the rest of this, 00:45:35.23\00:45:37.57 I want you write this down. 00:45:37.60\00:45:39.13 What happens to man at the time of death? 00:45:39.17\00:45:41.67 Dust goes to the earth, spirit returns, 00:45:41.70\00:45:44.64 dust returns, spirit returns. 00:45:44.67\00:45:47.24 So now what we have is 00:45:47.28\00:45:48.61 a reversing of creation process, right, 00:45:48.64\00:45:51.68 because the dust came from the ground 00:45:51.71\00:45:53.65 but where did the spirit come from? 00:45:53.68\00:45:55.68 God. 00:45:55.72\00:45:57.05 Okay, okay. 00:45:57.09\00:45:58.89 How did it come from God? 00:45:58.92\00:46:01.09 He breathed it. 00:46:01.12\00:46:02.66 He breathed it. Say it again, Glenn. 00:46:02.69\00:46:04.66 He did... 00:46:04.69\00:46:06.03 He breathed it. He breathed it. 00:46:06.06\00:46:07.53 Now this is why this is so vitally important. 00:46:07.56\00:46:10.53 If the spirit here represented man, 00:46:10.57\00:46:14.40 then man would be going back to where he came from. 00:46:14.44\00:46:19.71 This is really huge, 00:46:19.74\00:46:21.54 this would be teaching that man came from heaven, 00:46:21.58\00:46:24.65 so man is going back to heaven 00:46:24.68\00:46:26.88 but it didn't say man it said spirit, all right? 00:46:26.92\00:46:31.42 Now let's get this clearly, 00:46:31.45\00:46:33.56 we talked about in the beginning, the dust, 00:46:33.59\00:46:36.16 plus the breath of life equals a living being, 00:46:36.19\00:46:39.79 a living soul. 00:46:39.83\00:46:41.16 So now when you separate them, is there anything living? 00:46:41.20\00:46:43.77 Yes or no? No. 00:46:43.80\00:46:45.13 No, nothing's living. 00:46:45.17\00:46:46.50 There is no living human being that's existing now. 00:46:46.53\00:46:50.77 But we must answer the question. 00:46:50.81\00:46:52.61 What actually went back? 00:46:52.64\00:46:53.98 Let's go ahead and go to Psalms 146. 00:46:54.01\00:46:57.98 Psalms 146. 00:46:58.01\00:47:00.38 Spirit goes back to God, dust goes back to the earth. 00:47:03.49\00:47:08.12 We've got the separation of life. 00:47:08.16\00:47:10.56 Okay, Psalms 146. 00:47:10.59\00:47:14.23 And we're going to look again. 00:47:14.26\00:47:16.03 We're going to make the Bible teach us, all right? 00:47:16.06\00:47:19.97 Okay. Okay. 00:47:20.00\00:47:22.67 Now this passage is going to give us clarification, 00:47:22.70\00:47:27.08 this passage is going to give us clarification. 00:47:27.11\00:47:29.34 This passage is now going to add 00:47:29.38\00:47:32.08 what Ecclesiastes 12:7 did not add. 00:47:32.11\00:47:38.32 This passage is now going to give us some specifics. 00:47:38.35\00:47:41.96 All right, let's go now and see what it says, 00:47:41.99\00:47:45.09 "His spirit departs..." 00:47:45.13\00:47:48.00 verse 4, "His spirit departs." 00:47:48.03\00:47:51.60 All right? 00:47:51.63\00:47:52.97 But where does he go? 00:47:53.00\00:47:55.60 He returns to his earth, 00:47:55.64\00:47:58.64 he all of a sudden a gender is now included, he. 00:47:58.67\00:48:02.34 Why he 00:48:02.38\00:48:03.71 because Adam was the first one that God created. 00:48:03.75\00:48:05.81 When Adam died, where did Adam go back to? 00:48:05.85\00:48:08.18 Adam returned to, what? 00:48:08.22\00:48:09.98 His earth. 00:48:10.02\00:48:12.05 Adam didn't return to heaven 00:48:12.09\00:48:13.42 because Adam didn't come from heaven. 00:48:13.46\00:48:17.53 Is it clear? 00:48:17.56\00:48:18.89 Adam returned to the earth. 00:48:18.93\00:48:21.03 How did Ecclesiastes said, "He went back to dust." 00:48:21.06\00:48:25.63 That's what the word corruptible mean 00:48:25.67\00:48:28.50 in 1 Corinthians 15. 00:48:28.54\00:48:30.91 That's why when Jesus 00:48:30.94\00:48:32.27 was in the grave for only three days, 00:48:32.31\00:48:34.38 the Bible says, 00:48:34.41\00:48:35.74 "His father did not allow Him to seek corruption." 00:48:35.78\00:48:40.02 He didn't start to decay 00:48:40.05\00:48:42.05 so when the body goes back to the earth, 00:48:42.08\00:48:44.95 one thing, "His spirit departs, 00:48:44.99\00:48:46.76 He returns to His earth in that very day," His what, 00:48:46.79\00:48:50.83 "His plans perish." 00:48:50.86\00:48:52.79 Which means now what's not functioning? 00:48:52.83\00:48:55.13 If his plans perish, what's not functioning? 00:48:55.16\00:48:57.70 I'm pointing at it, somebody tell me, 00:48:57.73\00:48:59.60 what's not functioning? 00:48:59.63\00:49:00.97 His brain is not functioning. 00:49:01.00\00:49:02.40 If his plans stop when he dies, 00:49:02.44\00:49:05.84 then his brain is ceasing to function. 00:49:05.87\00:49:08.14 The only way his plans will continue 00:49:08.18\00:49:10.08 is if there's somebody to carry out those plans, 00:49:10.11\00:49:12.81 right? 00:49:12.85\00:49:14.18 But now we got to answer the question. 00:49:14.22\00:49:15.75 The word spirit came up twice, 00:49:15.78\00:49:19.12 the word spirit came up twice, 00:49:19.15\00:49:21.12 and we got to find out what that is. 00:49:21.16\00:49:23.12 Okay, now let's go to one more passage. 00:49:23.16\00:49:26.46 Go to question number seven, question number seven. 00:49:26.49\00:49:32.10 And we're going to find out what this spirit is all about. 00:49:32.13\00:49:34.37 So far, we've discovered that man returns to the earth. 00:49:34.40\00:49:38.14 And what does that mean? 00:49:38.17\00:49:39.51 He goes back to dust. 00:49:39.54\00:49:40.94 But both times we found out that this spirit departs, 00:49:40.98\00:49:44.65 the spirit not only departs, the spirit returns to God. 00:49:44.68\00:49:48.35 If it returns to God, 00:49:48.38\00:49:49.75 whatever returns to me, came from me, am I right? 00:49:49.78\00:49:54.62 So if it returns to me, I am the source of it 00:49:54.66\00:49:58.69 that's where it came from. 00:49:58.73\00:50:00.26 If it returns to me, it came from me. 00:50:00.30\00:50:04.10 Okay, I just want to make it clear. 00:50:04.13\00:50:06.27 Now how does the Bible describe the spirit that returns to God, 00:50:06.30\00:50:11.67 Job 27:3. 00:50:11.71\00:50:14.31 And by the way, 00:50:14.34\00:50:15.68 this one is best described in the King James Version. 00:50:15.71\00:50:19.88 This one is best described in the King James Version. 00:50:19.91\00:50:23.35 The New King James does a good job, 00:50:23.39\00:50:25.65 but it uses the word, it uses the same word twice. 00:50:25.69\00:50:28.89 When, in fact, 00:50:28.92\00:50:30.29 it's a slight difference in the Hebrew. 00:50:30.33\00:50:32.96 Here we go. 00:50:32.99\00:50:34.33 Let's read this together, "All the while my," what? 00:50:34.36\00:50:38.10 "Breath is in me, 00:50:38.13\00:50:40.00 and the Spirit of God is," where? 00:50:40.04\00:50:42.94 "In my nostrils." 00:50:42.97\00:50:44.31 Now in the New King James Version, it says, 00:50:44.34\00:50:47.11 "And the breath of God is in my nostrils." 00:50:47.14\00:50:49.18 Well, the breath of God, and the Spirit of God 00:50:49.21\00:50:51.78 are the same thing, 00:50:51.81\00:50:54.78 are the same thing. 00:50:54.82\00:50:56.28 So how did the Spirit of God get in my nostrils, 00:50:56.32\00:50:59.89 someone tell me? 00:50:59.92\00:51:02.19 He breathed it there, right? 00:51:02.22\00:51:05.03 Like some parents, I've seen some parents do this 00:51:05.06\00:51:07.10 and it's kind of a grose illustration, 00:51:07.13\00:51:08.93 but I think it fits right here, 00:51:08.96\00:51:11.27 I've seen a mother do this. 00:51:11.30\00:51:14.30 Sometimes the baby is having a hard time breathing, 00:51:14.34\00:51:16.71 and the mother will put her hand on her mouth 00:51:16.74\00:51:19.21 over the baby's nose and try to gentle breaths 00:51:19.24\00:51:23.38 in the nostrils of the baby to help the baby breathe, 00:51:23.41\00:51:25.95 maybe to clear up something 00:51:25.98\00:51:27.32 that may be obstructing the passageways. 00:51:27.35\00:51:31.59 But the mother could never give a life to the baby. 00:51:31.62\00:51:34.36 When you go back to Genesis 2:7, 00:51:34.39\00:51:37.09 and then you compare Genesis 2:7 to Job 27:3, 00:51:37.13\00:51:40.93 you find, "Okay, I get it now." 00:51:40.96\00:51:43.03 Man was just a pile of dust until God breathed into him. 00:51:43.06\00:51:47.60 Now when that breath that when man is dead, 00:51:47.64\00:51:51.91 that breath is no longer functioning 00:51:51.94\00:51:54.04 and it returns to who? 00:51:54.08\00:51:55.54 To God. 00:51:55.58\00:51:56.91 That's where it came from. 00:51:56.95\00:51:58.28 What does that mean? 00:51:58.31\00:51:59.65 God is the only source of life, right? 00:51:59.68\00:52:04.12 Didn't John say that in John chapter? 00:52:04.15\00:52:05.95 In Him was life... 00:52:05.99\00:52:07.86 "In Him is life, unborrowed, underived." 00:52:07.89\00:52:12.13 He doesn't borrow that life from anybody else, okay? 00:52:12.16\00:52:15.33 So now let's answer the question. 00:52:15.36\00:52:17.17 Onto question number seven. 00:52:17.20\00:52:18.53 How does the Bible describe the spirit that returns to God?
