And so this scripture tells us
that the wages of sin is death

So if Jesus Christ is your

passage of the Bible

written about John 3:16.

And so John 3:16 tells us

that, "God so loved the world,

that He gave His
only begotten Son,

that whosoever
believeth in Him should not..."

What?

"Perish..." There's
that word perish again.

In the sense of the
wages of sin is death

and so those
that will not believe,

this will be the result.

If they do not
believe, they will perish.

wages of sin is death

death and all have sinned

willing to give us a gift

to receive eternal life?

that it must be a belief

because they believe,

You see, God goes beyond
forgiving us for our sins,

He wants to
rescue us from our sins

and bring us to the
point where we will hate sin.

Jesus Christ is the only one

that can put in
us a hatred for sin

Jesus Christ died
on the cross for us,

but having died
on the cross for us,

He wants to bring
salvation to people

and eternal life to those

that are willing to live

the universe of God.

There are two great commandments

based on the Ten Commandments,

the great Ten
Commandments of God's law,

the first great commandment is,

love the Lord Your God
with all of your heart,

and in other words,

And the second
commandment is like unto it,

Those are the kind of people
that will have eternal life

because God is not going
to take people into heaven

and then into the new earth

that are willing to go
around shooting people,

they have to learn to hate that.

God is not going to take people

that are going to
be robbing from those

that have eternal life

or trying to find a
way to commit adultery

or any of the other
commandments involved.

God is going to
take people to heaven

and bring them to the new earth

that are willing to be obedient.

And so these are
the kind of people

that God is trying to rescue.

It's not just that you're
going to be forgiven for sin...

"Wonderful, you're forgiven.

Let's go to heaven."

You see, because if
you're just forgiven,

what are you going to do?

Keep doing the things you were.

God wants to work a
transformation in us

and this is why the
next verse is very important.

Notice what the John
the Baptist announces.

'Behold the Lamb of God,

which taketh away
the sin of the world.'"

Praise the Lord.

So what is it
that John announces?

"Behold the Lamb of God

that taketh away
the sin of the world."

And I like to
think of the word behold,

not just as the
word of a passing glance,

"Behold the Lamb of God..."

Oh, okay, I see Him. Great.

And you walk away.

No, it's behold,

continue beholding and
follow the Lamb of God.

Not only this,

this verse tells
us that Jesus Christ,

the Lamb of God is going to
take away the sin of the world.

Not only is He
going to take it away
00:10:12.54\00:10:13.91
in the sense of forgiveness,
00:10:13.94\00:10:15.58
but He wants to take the
desire to sin away from us.
00:10:15.61\00:10:19.38
He wants to
transform us in such a way
00:10:19.41\00:10:21.68
that we will not
want to hurt people,
00:10:21.72\00:10:23.52
we will not want
to hurt each other,
00:10:23.55\00:10:25.35
we will want to do good things.

And so that's
what God's message is

and this is why
there are many scriptures

that talk to us about this.

Romans Chapter 13
as you get to the end,

right around verse 13
or verse 11 around there,

it says that love is
the fulfilling of the law.

And so you see, God loves
us, He loves everyone around us,

and He doesn't want you to go
around hurting those He loves.

Does that make
sense? It makes sense.

So now as we look at the verse,

"Behold the Lamb of God

the sin of the world."

Today, that does not
make much sense to people.

If you say to them,
"Jesus Christ the Lamb of God

that taketh away
the sin of the world."

If you say that to someone
00:11:13.07\00:11:14.40
that has not read the
Bible, they're kind of confused.

"What do you mean?
Jesus Christ is a lamb?

What does that mean?"
00:11:20.01\00:11:21.78
To those that heard
John the Baptist announce,

"Behold the Lamb of God

that taketh away
the sin of the world."

Right away, they
made a connection.

What was the connection?

They knew, they
understood that if they sinned,

they were to bring an animal

as a sacrifice for
their sins to be forgiven,

and the Bible tells us
about a lamb in particular.

And when the person sinned,

they brought the animal to
the priest in the sanctuary

or the temple of God

and we're
thinking at this moment,

the wilderness sanctuary,

we've been
studying the sanctuary

here at Thompsonville Church,

the sanctuary
that had a outer court,

it had a holy place,

and then it had
a most holy place.

We're not going to get too deep

into that aspect
of the sanctuary.

But the people that would sin
would have to bring an animal

that was completely innocent,

was not involved in
the sin of the individual,

but that lamb

would take the
place of the sinner.

And as you read
in the Book of...

Right away from Genesis,

you notice that
sacrifices are being made

for the forgiveness of sins.

Right away you notice that
as soon as Adam and Eve sinned,

there was a sacrifice
00:12:45.06\00:12:47.03
because Adam and
Eve after they sinned,

they clothe
themselves with fig garments,
00:12:50.03\00:12:54.60
and when God
came to talk to them,

He provided a better garment.
00:12:59.91\00:13:02.48
What was the better garment?

Skins of animals
that had been sacrificed.

And right away after sin,

there was provision
for their forgiveness made.

And this animal
that was sacrificed

when Adam and Eve sinned
was a symbol of the Lamb of God

that would take away
the sin of the world,

that eventually would come
upon the scene of human history.

So John the Baptist announces,
"Behold the Lamb of God

the sin of the world,"

He's announcing something
that would change history

that the Son of God had come

to take away the
sin of the world.

So that... He was
saying good news to them.

There is a question
whether or not John the Baptist

fully understood the message

when he declared,
"Behold the Lamb of God

that taketh away
the sin of the world."

That's perhaps...

Some other time we may
study that aspect of it.

But consider that Jesus
Christ came to take away sin,

to be able to forgive sin,

and to be able to
save us from death.

"The wages of sin is death,"

the Bible
announces in Romans 6:23.

Now let's go back to
what I just described.

When a sinner sinned,

and the Bible tells us

that it is God
through the Holy Spirit

that leads us to repentance
and that is also a gift.

When the person responds
and desires to be forgiven,

talking about the time

when the
sacrifices were being offered,

and that person understood,
"I must bring a lamb,"

or some other animal,
Leviticus Chapter 4 and on

describes to you
some of the requirements.

So that person understood,

"I must bring a lamb
for my sins to be forgiven."

You see, the Bible says

that without the
shedding of blood,

there is no remission of sins.

Sin cannot be atoned for,

sin cannot be paid
for unless there is death

because the
wages of sin is death.

So either the sinner has to die

or someone in his place
that is perfectly blameless

and spotless and
does not have any sin.

In this case, it was an animal.

What kind of condition
did the animal have to be in?

The Bible announces
that the animal had to be

The animal had
to be without spot

because that animal was
a symbol of Jesus Christ

live a perfect life

that would never sin.

So the animal had to be
