victory in Jesus 00:02:13.86\00:02:16.43 even though the battle for humanity's salvation 00:02:16.46\00:02:20.04 is still waging fiercely around us. 00:02:20.07\00:02:23.44 Help us to look to the cross in the empty tomb 00:02:23.47\00:02:25.67 and to know 00:02:25.71\00:02:27.04 that we do have victory already is ours to claim. 00:02:27.08\00:02:31.18 We talked about the human factor, 00:02:31.21\00:02:32.68 and tonight, we talk about the divine challenge 00:02:32.71\00:02:35.42 of how to live the victorious life, 00:02:35.45\00:02:37.72 how to live a spiritual life in a natural body, 00:02:37.75\00:02:40.32 so guide us and impress upon our minds 00:02:40.36\00:02:42.62 how important it is 00:02:42.66\00:02:44.13 to trust in Christ and Him alone. 00:02:44.16\00:02:46.59 In Jesus' name we pray, amen. 00:02:46.63\00:02:50.57 Well, join us if you like on our song, 00:02:50.60\00:02:52.37 "Victory in Jesus." 00:02:52.40\00:02:53.74 It's on our screen here for those of you who are local, 00:02:53.77\00:02:56.30 and if you know the song, sing along with us. 00:02:56.34\00:02:59.07 I heard an old, old story 00:03:08.02\00:03:11.69 How a Savior came from glory 00:03:11.72\00:03:15.46 How He gave His life on Calvary 00:03:15.49\00:03:19.19 To save a wretch like me 00:03:19.23\00:03:23.10 I heard about His groaning 00:03:23.13\00:03:26.87 Of His precious blood's atoning 00:03:26.90\00:03:30.57 Then I repented of my sins 00:03:30.61\00:03:34.51 And won the victory 00:03:34.54\00:03:38.15 Oh victory in Jesus 00:03:38.18\00:03:41.88 My Savior forever 00:03:41.92\00:03:45.82 He sought me and bought me 00:03:45.85\00:03:49.42 With His redeeming blood 00:03:49.46\00:03:53.33 He loved me 'ere I knew Him 00:03:53.36\00:03:57.10 And all my love is due Him 00:03:57.13\00:04:00.87 He plunged me to victory 00:04:00.90\00:04:04.67 Beneath the cleansing flood 00:04:04.71\00:04:08.44 I heard about a mansion 00:04:08.48\00:04:12.15 He has built for me in glory 00:04:12.18\00:04:15.95 And I heard about the streets of gold 00:04:15.98\00:04:19.65 Beyond the crystal sea 00:04:19.69\00:04:23.59 About the angels singing 00:04:23.63\00:04:27.26 And the old redemption story 00:04:27.30\00:04:31.03 And some sweet day 00:04:31.07\00:04:33.03 I'll sing up there the song of victory 00:04:33.07\00:04:38.57 Oh victory in Jesus 00:04:38.61\00:04:42.41 My Savior forever 00:04:42.44\00:04:46.18 He sought me and bought me 00:04:46.21\00:04:49.98 With His redeeming blood 00:04:50.02\00:04:53.76 He loved me 'ere I knew Him 00:04:53.79\00:04:57.53 And all my love is due Him 00:04:57.56\00:05:01.43 He plunged me to victory 00:05:01.46\00:05:05.03 Beneath the cleansing flood 00:05:05.07\00:05:08.94 He plunged me to victory 00:05:08.97\00:05:12.61 Beneath the cleansing flood 00:05:12.64\00:05:19.35 Amen? Amen. 00:05:19.38\00:05:21.22 We continue on our topic, How to Face the Challenges. 00:05:21.25\00:05:27.36 There are challenges in our lives every day, 00:05:27.39\00:05:29.46 isn't that right? 00:05:29.49\00:05:30.83 I mean, each of us has a challenge, 00:05:30.86\00:05:32.53 whether it is financial, whether it is social, 00:05:32.56\00:05:35.76 it could be family, friends, it could be your job, 00:05:35.80\00:05:39.47 it could be your automobile, it could be incidents of life 00:05:39.50\00:05:42.07 that are not planned for or not anticipated. 00:05:42.10\00:05:46.01 But all those challenges 00:05:46.04\00:05:47.48 seem to fade into a minimal importance 00:05:47.51\00:05:49.98 when we think about the challenge of salvation, 00:05:50.01\00:05:52.85 the challenge of living the spiritual life. 00:05:52.88\00:05:54.48 So tonight, we have our Bibles, we've got our pens, 00:05:54.52\00:05:58.02 we've got our papers, and once again, 00:05:58.05\00:05:59.39 if you're just tuned in, 00:05:59.42\00:06:00.76 go to our website ASF.3abn.org, and download lesson number 11, 00:06:00.79\00:06:06.36 titled Face the Challenges. 00:06:06.39\00:06:08.96 Now just to lay the foundation, 00:06:09.00\00:06:12.93 tonight, I thank the Lord 00:06:12.97\00:06:14.30 that we are not who we were created to be. 00:06:14.34\00:06:17.11 Amen. 00:06:21.04\00:06:22.84 Now to understand that, I'm not speaking about gender, 00:06:22.88\00:06:25.88 I'm thanking God that I'm created, 00:06:25.91\00:06:29.02 and I am still the gender 00:06:29.05\00:06:30.39 I'm supposed to be, amen, everybody. 00:06:30.42\00:06:31.99 Amen. That's not my point. 00:06:32.02\00:06:34.39 I am thanking God that through the new birth, 00:06:34.42\00:06:37.16 I am not who I was born to be. 00:06:37.19\00:06:39.63 Amen. 00:06:39.66\00:06:41.53 Did you get that? 00:06:41.56\00:06:42.90 Everybody is... 00:06:42.93\00:06:44.27 Now they are all wiping their brows, 00:06:44.30\00:06:45.63 they understand now. 00:06:45.67\00:06:47.77 If you still are who you were born as, 00:06:47.80\00:06:51.51 you've got to be born again. 00:06:51.54\00:06:53.14 Amen. 00:06:53.17\00:06:54.51 But if you are not who you were born as, 00:06:54.54\00:06:57.45 that is, in the same nature, 00:06:57.48\00:06:59.35 then you can thank God tonight 00:06:59.38\00:07:00.75 because if you try to face the challenges 00:07:00.78\00:07:03.49 that are spiritual in a completely natural nature, 00:07:03.52\00:07:06.52 you're not going to be victorious. 00:07:06.55\00:07:08.42 You're going to fail over and over. 00:07:08.46\00:07:10.39 It's difficult enough for those of us 00:07:10.43\00:07:12.03 who are spiritual, 00:07:12.06\00:07:13.60 for those of us who are born again in Christ, 00:07:13.63\00:07:15.96 it's difficult enough. 00:07:16.00\00:07:17.50 So tonight, we're going to talk about the challenges 00:07:17.53\00:07:19.03 because when we began this lesson, 00:07:19.07\00:07:20.40 we talked about how unreliable our hearts are, 00:07:20.44\00:07:23.51 how unreliable our minds are, 00:07:23.54\00:07:25.51 how our thoughts 00:07:25.54\00:07:26.88 and God's thoughts are far apart, 00:07:26.91\00:07:29.18 His ways and our ways don't even mesh, 00:07:29.21\00:07:32.15 and that is, 00:07:32.18\00:07:33.52 in fact, the continuing truth about who we are. 00:07:33.55\00:07:36.79 As John wrote in the book of I John, 00:07:36.82\00:07:39.15 he says, "If we say we have no sin, 00:07:39.19\00:07:40.52 we deceive ourselves." 00:07:40.56\00:07:42.56 And so in this nature that is very much spiritual, 00:07:42.59\00:07:46.73 we're partakers of a divine nature, 00:07:46.76\00:07:49.16 but these bodies are the problem. 00:07:49.20\00:07:51.70 We still have natural bodies and thus the topic, 00:07:51.73\00:07:54.50 how to live a spiritual life, follow me carefully, 00:07:54.54\00:07:56.71 in what kind of body? 00:07:56.74\00:07:58.37 In a natural body. 00:07:58.41\00:08:00.81 How to live a spiritual life in a natural body? 00:08:00.84\00:08:02.84 We also found out about the most vicious animal 00:08:02.88\00:08:05.88 on the planet. 00:08:05.91\00:08:07.62 Remember what that vicious animal is? 00:08:07.65\00:08:08.98 Somebody tell me. 00:08:09.02\00:08:10.35 What's the most vicious animal on the planet? 00:08:10.39\00:08:12.99 Wolverine. 00:08:13.02\00:08:16.12 The Wolverine? No. The human tongue. 00:08:16.16\00:08:19.79 Remember I said, if you go to a pet's shop and say, 00:08:19.83\00:08:22.13 "I want an," then they say, 00:08:22.16\00:08:23.50 "What kind of pet would you like?" 00:08:23.53\00:08:24.87 Then I say, "Well, I want the mean... 00:08:24.90\00:08:27.00 I want a pet that is unruly and evil, and when it bites, 00:08:27.04\00:08:32.14 I want a one that has a bite that's full of deadly poison." 00:08:32.17\00:08:35.68 We even came to find out that our tongues 00:08:35.71\00:08:38.21 are an unruly evil full of deadly poison. 00:08:38.25\00:08:40.32 So we can't even rely on our speech 00:08:40.35\00:08:42.82 unless we put our mouths under the control of the Lord. 00:08:42.85\00:08:46.12 Hearts are messed up, minds are messed up. 00:08:46.15\00:08:49.19 Our speech is an indication of the condition of our hearts. 00:08:49.22\00:08:52.56 That's the divine, that's the human challenge. 00:08:52.59\00:08:54.46 But we also found out 00:08:54.50\00:08:56.67 that in these challenges that we have, 00:08:56.70\00:09:00.90 there is a divine process that brings to us 00:09:00.94\00:09:03.87 the kind of victory 00:09:03.91\00:09:05.24 that we can find only in Christ. 00:09:05.27\00:09:06.61 And so tonight, I'd like to begin 00:09:06.64\00:09:08.28 with question number 15 which talks about that process. 00:09:08.31\00:09:12.88 It reveals to us what that process is. 00:09:12.91\00:09:16.12 And when you read the text 00:09:16.15\00:09:17.49 as we first give you the question, 00:09:17.52\00:09:18.85 you will discover, it is not anything that we do 00:09:18.89\00:09:21.26 but it's everything that God does in us. 00:09:21.29\00:09:24.59 Now look at question number 15. 00:09:24.63\00:09:26.19 Here it is. 00:09:26.23\00:09:27.83 "Through what process are the changes made in our," 00:09:27.86\00:09:31.70 what natures? "In our old natures." 00:09:31.73\00:09:35.30 We've got an old one, 00:09:35.34\00:09:36.67 and hopefully we have a new one. 00:09:36.71\00:09:38.57 The old has passed away hopefully. 00:09:38.61\00:09:40.61 We're going to go to Ezekiel 36, 00:09:40.64\00:09:43.75 and we're going to look together 00:09:43.78\00:09:45.95 at verse 26 and verse 27. 00:09:45.98\00:09:49.68 Ezekiel is a book that... 00:09:49.72\00:09:51.25 It's a pretty heavy book. 00:09:51.29\00:09:52.62 Not a lot of sermons come out of the book of Ezekiel 00:09:52.65\00:09:54.36 because there's a lot of prophecy there. 00:09:54.39\00:09:56.66 But in this particular vision, 00:09:56.69\00:10:00.06 Ezekiel is faced with a value of what kind of bones? 00:10:00.10\00:10:04.80 Very dry bones. 00:10:04.83\00:10:07.54 And the process of bringing 00:10:07.57\00:10:08.90 those bones back to life had to do 00:10:08.94\00:10:10.34 with more than just putting skin 00:10:10.37\00:10:12.54 and giving it sinew, muscles, but it was something 00:10:12.57\00:10:16.14 that was on the inside of those bodies 00:10:16.18\00:10:19.15 that led them to be very dry dead bones. 00:10:19.18\00:10:23.02 And the Lord not wanting that to happen again, 00:10:23.05\00:10:25.19 He said, "I'm going to do something different this time. 00:10:25.22\00:10:26.86 There is something I'm going to put on the inside 00:10:26.89\00:10:28.82 that wasn't there before." 00:10:28.86\00:10:30.26 Look at the verses. 00:10:30.29\00:10:31.63 Ezekiel 36:26-27, 00:10:31.66\00:10:34.56 and wherever you see a different color, 00:10:34.60\00:10:36.50 I'd like you to emphasize that with me 00:10:36.53\00:10:37.87 as we all look at the screen together. 00:10:37.90\00:10:39.77 Are you ready? Let's start on the first one. 00:10:39.80\00:10:42.00 Let's say it together. What is that phrase? 00:10:42.04\00:10:44.87 "I will give you a," what kind of heart, 00:10:44.91\00:10:48.38 "new heart and put a," what, "new spirit within you." 00:10:48.41\00:10:52.75 Together. 00:10:52.78\00:10:54.12 "I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh 00:10:54.15\00:10:58.79 and give you a heart of" what, "flesh." 00:10:58.82\00:11:01.39 Together. 00:11:01.42\00:11:02.76 "I will put My Spirit within you 00:11:02.79\00:11:06.33 and cause you to do," what, "walk in My statutes, 00:11:06.36\00:11:10.13 and you will keep My judgments and," what else, "do them." 00:11:10.17\00:11:13.74 What I want you to notice is unless the Spirit of God 00:11:13.77\00:11:17.07 is inside of you, 00:11:17.11\00:11:18.44 it's not possible to keep God's statutes. 00:11:18.47\00:11:21.38 It's not possible to live in harmony with God's laws. 00:11:21.41\00:11:25.11 It's not possible 00:11:25.15\00:11:26.48 because the spirit that's in us, 00:11:26.51\00:11:27.95 that spirit that is against God, 00:11:27.98\00:11:30.12 that is contrary to the law of God, 00:11:30.15\00:11:31.99 Paul talked about that Spirit, 00:11:32.02\00:11:33.36 he says, "I serve the law of God 00:11:33.39\00:11:35.79 with my mind 00:11:35.82\00:11:37.16 but I find there's another law in me 00:11:37.19\00:11:39.86 bringing me into captivity to the law of sin and death." 00:11:39.89\00:11:43.00 So you find that if you rely on your intellect, 00:11:43.03\00:11:45.73 if you simply say, 00:11:45.77\00:11:47.10 even if you went as far as saying, 00:11:47.14\00:11:48.64 "I believe in the Commandments of God. 00:11:48.67\00:11:50.47 I think the Commandments of God are true. 00:11:50.51\00:11:52.57 I think the Commandments of God are right. 00:11:52.61\00:11:54.84 And so today, Janik, 00:11:54.88\00:11:56.48 I'm going to live completely in harmony 00:11:56.51\00:11:58.81 with the Commandments of God." 00:11:58.85\00:12:01.48 You fall into the same trap the Israelites did. 00:12:01.52\00:12:04.09 Because when Moses brought to them 00:12:04.12\00:12:05.45 the Commandments of God, 00:12:05.49\00:12:06.82 they said, "All that the Lord has said, we will do." 00:12:06.86\00:12:10.93 We will do. 00:12:10.96\00:12:12.29 But this verse is not a we will, 00:12:12.33\00:12:13.76 this verse is an I will. 00:12:13.80\00:12:15.63 The Lord is the one that's making the changes. 00:12:15.66\00:12:17.40 I will. 00:12:17.43\00:12:18.77 You need a new heart, I'll put it there. 00:12:18.80\00:12:20.34 You need a new spirit, I'll put it there. 00:12:20.37\00:12:22.54 You need a heart that is not hard, 00:12:22.57\00:12:25.51 I'll give you a heart that is made of flesh. 00:12:25.54\00:12:27.84 And then I'll put my Spirit within you. 00:12:27.88\00:12:30.71 So unless the Spirit of God is in us 00:12:30.75\00:12:32.58 and that's the part of the Christian life 00:12:32.61\00:12:33.95 that we often leave out, 00:12:33.98\00:12:35.85 especially as Adventist Christians 00:12:35.88\00:12:37.25 who know the truth, 00:12:37.29\00:12:38.69 have a wonderful wealth of truth, 00:12:38.72\00:12:41.29 sometimes, we say, "Well, we have a lot of truth, 00:12:41.32\00:12:44.56 so we must be on the right track." 00:12:44.59\00:12:47.86 Well, it's not having the truth, 00:12:47.90\00:12:49.66 but get the twist, it's the truth having you. 00:12:49.70\00:12:53.50 It's not us having it intellectually 00:12:53.54\00:12:54.87 because it's right, we can't argue with it. 00:12:54.90\00:12:57.17 But if the wrong spirit is within us, 00:12:57.21\00:13:00.84 if that heart of stone is still there, 00:13:00.88\00:13:03.18 we can look at the Commandments of God 00:13:03.21\00:13:04.55 and say they're right, 00:13:04.58\00:13:06.95 but then we don't want to walk in harmony with them 00:13:06.98\00:13:08.88 because the right spirit is not within us. 00:13:08.92\00:13:11.55 David prayed the prayer, "Create in me a," 00:13:11.59\00:13:14.16 what kind of heart, 00:13:14.19\00:13:15.52 "clean heart, O God and renew a," 00:13:15.56\00:13:17.53 what, "right, right spirit." 00:13:17.56\00:13:20.96 New King James says, "A steadfast." 00:13:21.00\00:13:23.23 A right, steadfast. 00:13:23.26\00:13:24.63 The reason for those two words being very appropriate is 00:13:24.67\00:13:27.24 because when you have the right spirit, 00:13:27.27\00:13:29.44 then you are steadfast. 00:13:29.47\00:13:31.17 The word steadfast mean you're not going to move, 00:13:31.21\00:13:33.21 you are founded on a principle that's going to stay there. 00:13:33.24\00:13:36.81 And so in order for us, look at the answer, 00:13:36.85\00:13:39.41 through what process are the changes made 00:13:39.45\00:13:41.68 in our own nature. 00:13:41.72\00:13:43.18 Who makes the changes? God does. 00:13:43.22\00:13:46.89 His will makes the changes. 00:13:46.92\00:13:49.36 That's what you want to put down. 00:13:49.39\00:13:50.86 His will makes the changes, not our will 00:13:50.89\00:13:56.26 because the natural will needs no help to do wrong. 00:13:56.30\00:14:01.20 Matter of fact, if you get up in the morning, 00:14:01.24\00:14:02.57 and I suggest this to you, if you want to see failure, 00:14:02.60\00:14:05.01 get up in the morning 00:14:05.04\00:14:06.37 and fail to spend time with God. 00:14:06.41\00:14:08.91 Really. 00:14:08.94\00:14:10.28 If you get up in the morning and fail to at least get 00:14:10.31\00:14:12.01 some spiritual food in there, you're going to find 00:14:12.05\00:14:14.32 you've gone on natural stuff all day long, 00:14:14.35\00:14:16.35 and you'll find out very quickly 00:14:16.38\00:14:17.82 that the natural can't work 00:14:17.85\00:14:19.45 in a spiritual walk, am I right, Karen? 00:14:19.49\00:14:21.32 Right. You find it can't work. 00:14:21.36\00:14:22.86 I got up this morning, it was so good. 00:14:22.89\00:14:24.23 I said to my wife, 00:14:24.26\00:14:25.59 "Honey, I read three devotions this morning, 00:14:25.63\00:14:27.40 had a good old slow conversation with God." 00:14:27.43\00:14:29.63 You know, sometimes, 00:14:29.66\00:14:31.00 you got to slow down instead of saying, 00:14:31.03\00:14:32.37 "Okay, let me pray. 00:14:32.40\00:14:33.74 Father in heaven, as I rush to work, be with me, 00:14:33.77\00:14:37.51 I can only play a really short prayer 00:14:37.54\00:14:38.87 this morning." 00:14:38.91\00:14:40.24 Sometimes, you got to stop and just talk to God and say, 00:14:40.28\00:14:41.91 "You know, Lord..." 00:14:41.94\00:14:43.28 I had a good old talk with God. 00:14:43.31\00:14:45.55 And as Ellen White says, 00:14:45.58\00:14:46.98 "We should talk to God as to a friend." 00:14:47.02\00:14:49.68 Feel that we can talk, 00:14:49.72\00:14:51.05 "You know, Lord, been really busy, 00:14:51.09\00:14:54.32 but I need to really get my mind in gear 00:14:54.36\00:14:57.06 'cause I have a lot of things to do today. 00:14:57.09\00:14:59.29 So talk to me through your Word." 00:14:59.33\00:15:00.83 And the devotion was great. 00:15:00.86\00:15:02.30 It was in Maranatha, November, and I read three of them, 00:15:02.33\00:15:06.74 I was only supposed to read one but it got so good, 00:15:06.77\00:15:08.44 I read the days ahead. 00:15:08.47\00:15:10.11 It is about the judgment. 00:15:10.14\00:15:11.47 If you want something 00:15:11.51\00:15:12.84 that will really get you into focus, 00:15:12.87\00:15:14.21 read about the judgment. 00:15:14.24\00:15:15.71 That will get you focused because oftentimes, 00:15:15.74\00:15:18.08 Christians don't live with the judgment in mind. 00:15:18.11\00:15:21.65 We don't live with the idea 00:15:21.68\00:15:23.02 that every ideal word you speak, 00:15:23.05\00:15:24.82 everything you do, you will be in judgment, 00:15:24.85\00:15:27.62 even the young folk. 00:15:27.66\00:15:28.99 The Bible says in Ecclesiastics. 00:15:29.02\00:15:30.86 Let me give the young folk a text tonight. 00:15:30.89\00:15:32.89 Go with me to Ecclesiastics. 00:15:32.93\00:15:35.20 That wonderful book, 00:15:35.23\00:15:36.56 to show you how important it is even for the young folks 00:15:36.60\00:15:38.53 'cause a lot of young people nowadays feel 00:15:38.57\00:15:40.07 they have time before they become a Christian. 00:15:40.10\00:15:43.04 Well, I don't know about that but there were people, 00:15:43.07\00:15:45.61 there were young folks that were lost in the flood, 00:15:45.64\00:15:49.38 and they're going to be some young folk 00:15:49.41\00:15:50.75 when Jesus comes back, isn't that right? 00:15:50.78\00:15:53.65 So we have to remember, when you read this text, 00:15:53.68\00:15:55.48 I want you to notice something. 00:15:55.52\00:15:57.05 There's going to be an abundance of word 00:15:57.09\00:15:58.99 that's going to be repetitive, "Your, your, your, your." 00:15:59.02\00:16:02.46 Ecclesiastics 11. 00:16:02.49\00:16:05.43 Okay? 00:16:05.46\00:16:06.80 No, 11. 00:16:06.83\00:16:08.46 Yeah, 11. 00:16:08.50\00:16:09.96 I'll get to 12 in a moment. 00:16:10.00\00:16:11.80 Twelve is actually the continuation of the verse 00:16:11.83\00:16:15.57 that's in Ecclesiastics 11. 00:16:15.60\00:16:18.41 All right? 00:16:18.44\00:16:19.77 And Ecclesiastics 11, 00:16:19.81\00:16:21.84 and we're going to start with verse 9. 00:16:21.88\00:16:23.75 All right. 00:16:23.78\00:16:25.35 I want you to notice 00:16:25.38\00:16:26.72 the difference between I and your. 00:16:26.75\00:16:28.65 "Rejoice, O young man, in," in what, "your youth, 00:16:28.68\00:16:32.69 and let your heart," 00:16:32.72\00:16:34.42 notice the difference between Ezekiel and this. 00:16:34.46\00:16:37.29 I'll put my heart, notice, "Rejoice, O young man, 00:16:37.33\00:16:41.50 in your youth, 00:16:41.53\00:16:42.86 and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. 00:16:42.90\00:16:47.40 Walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes. 00:16:47.44\00:16:53.14 But know that for all these, 00:16:53.17\00:16:56.61 God will bring you into judgment. 00:16:56.64\00:16:59.41 Therefore, remove sorrow from," 00:16:59.45\00:17:01.25 what, "your heart, put away evil from your flesh, 00:17:01.28\00:17:06.02 for childhood and youth are vanity." 00:17:06.05\00:17:08.92 That was the continuation. 00:17:08.96\00:17:10.29 When this was written, 00:17:10.33\00:17:11.66 there were no separations in chapters. 00:17:11.69\00:17:13.03 So the natural next verse was what? 00:17:13.06\00:17:15.00 "Remember now the creator in the days of your youth." 00:17:15.03\00:17:17.90 So even young people, nowadays, 00:17:17.93\00:17:19.53 need to live with the reality of the judgment of God in view. 00:17:19.57\00:17:24.57 Without remembering that, we think, 00:17:24.61\00:17:25.94 "Well, we can be in the river, on the bank, in the river, 00:17:25.97\00:17:28.21 on the bank, in the river, on the bank." 00:17:28.24\00:17:29.88 I'll tell you what. 00:17:29.91\00:17:32.28 Or let me use a different analogy. 00:17:32.31\00:17:33.65 We could be in the boat, 00:17:33.68\00:17:35.02 on the bank, in the boat, on the bank. 00:17:35.05\00:17:36.69 Sooner or later, the boat is going to move away, 00:17:36.72\00:17:39.15 and there is no boat left to get on to. 00:17:39.19\00:17:41.92 And so when you think about this, 00:17:41.96\00:17:43.29 the greatest desire that we must all move toward 00:17:43.32\00:17:47.23 and pray toward, and when I use the word work, 00:17:47.26\00:17:50.10 I don't mean work in our own effort 00:17:50.13\00:17:52.97 but cooperate with the work of the Holy Spirit 00:17:53.00\00:17:55.30 as we must all pray for that divine change 00:17:55.34\00:17:57.91 to take place within us 00:17:57.94\00:17:59.67 for God's will to be accomplished. 00:17:59.71\00:18:01.04 Amen? Number 16. Let's go to number 16. 00:18:01.08\00:18:06.85 Number 16, here it is. 00:18:06.88\00:18:08.95 "How completely will our past sins 00:18:08.98\00:18:13.15 be expunged?" 00:18:13.19\00:18:15.39 I was going to use a simple word like wiped out, 00:18:15.42\00:18:17.19 but I thought, "Let me give them 00:18:17.23\00:18:18.56 a new word, expunged." 00:18:18.59\00:18:20.90 Have you heard that word before? 00:18:20.93\00:18:23.10 That's like a sponge then ex, expunge. 00:18:23.13\00:18:28.54 Okay, let's look at this. 00:18:28.57\00:18:30.34 And we're going to the book of Micah. 00:18:30.37\00:18:34.18 You all know where Micah is. Micah is a powerful book. 00:18:34.21\00:18:40.68 How completely will our past sins be expunged? 00:18:40.72\00:18:45.85 One of my favorite verses. 00:18:45.89\00:18:48.39 How many times have I said that? 00:18:48.42\00:18:50.53 It's true. Micah 7:19. 00:18:50.56\00:18:54.06 Look at what the Bible says. Very encouraging text. 00:18:54.10\00:18:58.97 "He will again... 00:18:59.00\00:19:02.04 He will again have," what, 00:19:02.07\00:19:05.54 "compassion on us," 00:19:05.57\00:19:06.91 I want you to pay attention to the word, "He will again." 00:19:06.94\00:19:09.88 God doesn't have compassion one time and stop, 00:19:09.91\00:19:12.21 He will again have compassion on us 00:19:12.25\00:19:14.98 and will do what? 00:19:15.02\00:19:16.85 "Subdue our iniquities." 00:19:16.89\00:19:19.79 And then it says, 00:19:19.82\00:19:21.16 "You will cast," how many of our sins, 00:19:21.19\00:19:24.06 "all our sins into the depths of the sea." 00:19:24.09\00:19:29.53 And as one preacher once said 00:19:29.56\00:19:30.90 and he'll put out a no fishing sign. 00:19:30.93\00:19:34.84 Because what's happening there in that text 00:19:34.87\00:19:36.40 when the Lord expunges our sins 00:19:36.44\00:19:38.14 and casts them into the depths of the sea, 00:19:38.17\00:19:41.34 don't know if you know how deep the ocean is, 00:19:41.38\00:19:42.98 that the Mariana's Trench, 00:19:43.01\00:19:44.35 I heard it's about 00:19:44.38\00:19:46.48 a lot deeper than Mt. Everest is tall. 00:19:46.51\00:19:49.22 Yeah, about, it is very thirty something thousand feet deep 00:19:49.25\00:19:52.59 and Mt. Everest 00:19:52.62\00:19:53.96 is twenty-nine thousand something. 00:19:53.99\00:19:55.32 I remember talking about that. 00:19:55.36\00:19:56.69 All of Mt. Everest will be plunged 00:19:56.73\00:19:58.66 under the sea and still about 5, 000 feet 00:19:58.69\00:20:01.30 above that before you get to the depth of that ocean. 00:20:01.33\00:20:04.77 Lord is, in essence, saying He is not casting our sins 00:20:04.80\00:20:07.74 into a pond, into a glass of water. 00:20:07.77\00:20:12.77 But He is casting them into the what? 00:20:12.81\00:20:15.21 What tells you is a long way down? 00:20:15.24\00:20:17.61 Depths. Depths. 00:20:17.65\00:20:19.81 He is saying, "I'm burying them and I will not remember them." 00:20:19.85\00:20:23.99 I think we should say amen on that one. 00:20:24.02\00:20:25.95 He is getting rid of them and burying them 00:20:25.99\00:20:27.62 in the depths of the sea, and the compassion 00:20:27.66\00:20:29.56 that we have here is what lets us know 00:20:29.59\00:20:31.89 that He completely expunges our past sins. 00:20:31.93\00:20:35.50 The confidence we have is not so much how we were, 00:20:35.53\00:20:38.73 but when we come to Christ, what He does in transforming us 00:20:38.77\00:20:41.97 from who we were to who we can be in Him. 00:20:42.00\00:20:44.77 So you want to write this down. 00:20:44.81\00:20:46.14 How completely will our past sins be expunged? 00:20:46.17\00:20:49.21 How completely? Give me the answer. 00:20:49.24\00:20:52.78 Exactly. 00:20:52.81\00:20:54.15 I think the answer is in the question. 00:20:54.18\00:20:55.65 How completely, the answer is in the question. 00:20:55.68\00:20:57.42 Completely. Okay? 00:20:57.45\00:21:00.09 Almost a repetitious redundant question, 00:21:00.12\00:21:04.69 answer I was going to say. 00:21:04.73\00:21:06.29 How completely will our past sins be expunged? 00:21:06.33\00:21:09.03 Completely. All right. 00:21:09.06\00:21:13.30 Now when we know our sins are expunged, 00:21:13.34\00:21:19.47 it should give us a level of confidence. 00:21:19.51\00:21:22.51 We read last week or last time we had the study, 00:21:22.54\00:21:25.38 yeah, last week, 00:21:25.41\00:21:26.75 "Come boldly before the throne of grace." 00:21:26.78\00:21:30.59 Now if you know... 00:21:30.62\00:21:32.45 Let me give the illustration of a child and a parent, 00:21:32.49\00:21:34.66 if the child had done something wrong, 00:21:34.69\00:21:37.23 and they thought the parent were still upset with them, 00:21:37.26\00:21:41.13 would they run to their parents? 00:21:41.16\00:21:43.70 Huh? 00:21:43.73\00:21:45.20 What would they do? 00:21:45.23\00:21:48.54 "Mom, uh, mom." 00:21:48.57\00:21:50.97 They'll walk very cautiously toward the parent. 00:21:51.01\00:21:54.61 Huh? Cower down. 00:21:54.64\00:21:55.98 Cower down. 00:21:56.01\00:21:57.35 They would come very cautiously almost in a sense of, 00:21:57.38\00:22:00.65 "Mom, could I talk to you without getting hit? 00:22:00.68\00:22:03.82 Could I talk you, Dad, without getting in trouble?" 00:22:03.85\00:22:06.96 But that's not what the Lord wants us to have. 00:22:06.99\00:22:09.06 That's not the Spirit He wants us to have. 00:22:09.09\00:22:10.63 If we know that our sins are expunged 00:22:10.66\00:22:12.23 and our sins are forgiven, 00:22:12.26\00:22:13.60 He wants us to have a level of confidence. 00:22:13.63\00:22:15.06 Look at question number 17. 00:22:15.10\00:22:17.13 "What depth of confidence can we have 00:22:17.17\00:22:19.67 in the cleansing blood of Christ?" 00:22:19.70\00:22:22.80 "What depth of confidence can we have 00:22:22.84\00:22:25.87 in the cleansing blood of Christ?" 00:22:25.91\00:22:29.08 He talked about the ocean 00:22:29.11\00:22:30.48 but He gives another wonderful 00:22:30.51\00:22:32.38 illustration in Psalm 103:12. 00:22:32.41\00:22:37.12 Psalm 103:12. 00:22:37.15\00:22:41.59 I actually put 13 on the page but it's... 00:22:41.62\00:22:45.06 I mean, make sure I'm in the right one now 00:22:45.09\00:22:46.43 'cause I have one on one, Psalms 103, here I am. 00:22:46.46\00:22:52.97 Right. Psalms 103:12. All right? 00:22:53.00\00:22:58.27 It's correct on the slide. Praise the Lord for that. 00:22:58.31\00:23:01.54 "What depth of confidence can we have 00:23:01.58\00:23:03.18 in the cleansing blood of Christ?" 00:23:03.21\00:23:04.98 Here is the answer. Psalms 103:12. 00:23:05.01\00:23:09.65 "As far as the east is from the west, 00:23:09.68\00:23:16.56 so far has He removed our transgressions from us." 00:23:16.59\00:23:22.90 So how far is the east before it becomes the west? 00:23:22.93\00:23:28.84 If you are traveling west, 00:23:28.87\00:23:31.54 how far west do you have to travel 00:23:31.57\00:23:32.97 to you start traveling east? 00:23:33.01\00:23:34.81 East is always east. 00:23:34.84\00:23:36.18 East is always east and west is always west. 00:23:36.21\00:23:37.71 When I went like this, 00:23:37.75\00:23:39.08 I actually pointed in the wrong direction 00:23:39.11\00:23:40.45 because here, that's east and that's west 00:23:40.48\00:23:44.39 as I'm standing in the building, 00:23:44.42\00:23:45.75 am I right, Karen? 00:23:45.79\00:23:48.36 That's east, going toward downtown Thompsonville, 00:23:48.39\00:23:51.26 that's west going towards West Frankfort. 00:23:51.29\00:23:54.76 So how far has He removed our sins from us? 00:23:54.80\00:23:56.83 "As far as the east is from the west." 00:23:56.87\00:24:00.74 So that means, if you wake up in the morning 00:24:00.77\00:24:02.24 and you're looking for your sins, 00:24:02.27\00:24:04.17 you've got to travel real far west 00:24:04.21\00:24:07.14 to find out. 00:24:07.18\00:24:08.51 And you still won't find out. And thank you. Say it again. 00:24:08.54\00:24:10.81 And you still won't find out. Because how far they? 00:24:10.85\00:24:13.78 As far as the east is what? From the west. 00:24:13.82\00:24:16.48 You won't find them. 00:24:16.52\00:24:18.05 What the Lord is, in essence, 00:24:18.09\00:24:19.42 saying by that is He desires for us 00:24:19.45\00:24:21.79 not to be bound in our transgressions, 00:24:21.82\00:24:24.99 not for us to remain in our transgressions, 00:24:25.03\00:24:27.66 but not just to cleanse us because sometimes, 00:24:27.70\00:24:29.70 you can clean clothes... 00:24:29.73\00:24:31.27 Well, let me use an illustration, 00:24:31.30\00:24:32.63 this fits really well. 00:24:32.67\00:24:36.47 Try to be really vague here. 00:24:36.50\00:24:37.94 But we had somebody come over and did some yard work for us, 00:24:37.97\00:24:42.28 and it really went very, very well. 00:24:42.31\00:24:43.75 But after they did the yard work, they actually... 00:24:43.78\00:24:45.71 I gave them jeans and shoes to do the yard work in. 00:24:45.75\00:24:49.32 And when the yard work was all done, 00:24:49.35\00:24:51.15 I found my jeans and my shoes completely covered with dirt. 00:24:51.19\00:24:54.52 I mean I expected 00:24:54.56\00:24:55.89 that because you're doing yard work. 00:24:55.92\00:24:58.03 But the reason I found them is because they were not as far 00:24:58.06\00:25:01.96 as east is from the west, 00:25:02.00\00:25:03.33 they were right there on the floor. 00:25:03.37\00:25:05.13 I kept on tumbling over them at the washing machine, 00:25:05.17\00:25:07.34 and I'm looking at them and I'm wondering, 00:25:07.37\00:25:08.80 "I don't remember doing that." 00:25:08.84\00:25:10.67 Then all of a sudden dawned on me that I didn't do that. 00:25:10.71\00:25:13.44 The person who muddied it up and dirtied it up, 00:25:13.48\00:25:17.48 dropped it right in front of the washing machine. 00:25:17.51\00:25:19.45 Now get this. 00:25:19.48\00:25:20.82 How close is the washing machine 00:25:20.85\00:25:22.18 to dirty clothes? 00:25:22.22\00:25:25.92 They could've just thrown it in the washing machine, 00:25:25.95\00:25:29.06 hit the wash cycle, cleaned it up, 00:25:29.09\00:25:31.36 and there would be no evidence of the dirt still being there. 00:25:31.39\00:25:34.83 But they left it there. 00:25:34.86\00:25:36.36 And so it wasn't as far as the east is from the west. 00:25:36.40\00:25:40.54 But when those clothes were put 00:25:40.57\00:25:41.90 in the washing machine and cleansed, 00:25:41.94\00:25:43.87 I still don't know where the water went, 00:25:43.91\00:25:45.24 I still don't know where the dirt went, 00:25:45.27\00:25:47.11 but it's not in the machine. 00:25:47.14\00:25:48.64 And if you look in there for any traces of it, 00:25:48.68\00:25:50.05 it's not there any longer. 00:25:50.08\00:25:51.41 Where it went? 00:25:51.45\00:25:52.78 I don't know, and really, I don't care 00:25:52.81\00:25:54.15 as long as it's no longer where it used to be. 00:25:54.18\00:25:55.85 Am I telling the truth? Amen. 00:25:55.88\00:25:57.25 So when we look at our lives... 00:25:57.29\00:25:58.85 If we look in it, our lives, 00:25:58.89\00:26:00.22 and looking for the evidences of our past sins, 00:26:00.26\00:26:03.29 what the Lord, in essence, saying is when He cleanses us 00:26:03.32\00:26:06.76 and this is the sanctification aspect of your life. 00:26:06.80\00:26:10.27 When you're walking in a sanctified walk, 00:26:10.30\00:26:13.23 you should get to the place 00:26:13.27\00:26:14.60 where you cannot find those former sins 00:26:14.64\00:26:16.97 in your life any longer. 00:26:17.01\00:26:18.57 That's what this, in essence, is saying. 00:26:18.61\00:26:20.48 It's saying you should get to the place 00:26:20.51\00:26:21.84 where the things that you struggled 00:26:21.88\00:26:23.21 with should no longer be a struggle, 00:26:23.24\00:26:24.61 the things that you were challenged 00:26:24.65\00:26:25.98 by should no longer be a challenge 00:26:26.01\00:26:27.85 because God is removing our transgressions from us. 00:26:27.88\00:26:32.15 He is cleansing us of our iniquity, 00:26:32.19\00:26:34.56 our pet sins, removing our transgressions 00:26:34.59\00:26:37.19 from us as far as the east is from the west. 00:26:37.23\00:26:40.03 So let me ask the question. 00:26:40.06\00:26:42.30 If you've been Christian for longer than five years, 00:26:42.33\00:26:44.60 how many of you, don't tell me what, 00:26:44.63\00:26:48.30 believe that you have victory 00:26:48.34\00:26:49.67 over certain things in your life? 00:26:49.70\00:26:51.07 We need more hands. 00:26:54.91\00:26:57.78 There are certain things 00:26:57.81\00:26:59.15 that we used to be tempted by that no longer tempt us. 00:26:59.18\00:27:00.98 Amen? Amen. 00:27:01.02\00:27:02.35 But there are others 00:27:02.38\00:27:03.72 that we're still working on, right? 00:27:03.75\00:27:05.15 Because whatever reason... 00:27:05.19\00:27:07.16 Huh? He is working on us. 00:27:07.19\00:27:08.52 You beat me to it. I was going to say it. 00:27:08.56\00:27:10.36 I was setting them up, Karen. Okay. 00:27:10.39\00:27:13.60 What I was going to say is that's why it's still there 00:27:13.63\00:27:15.06 because you're working on it. 00:27:15.10\00:27:17.13 If you let the Lord work on it, what's He going do? 00:27:17.17\00:27:18.87 He's going to move it as far as the east 00:27:18.90\00:27:21.10 is from the west. 00:27:21.14\00:27:22.97 Let Him remove it. You won't find it. 00:27:23.00\00:27:24.41 But if you try to remove it, 00:27:24.44\00:27:25.77 some people like my good friend Doug Batchelor said, 00:27:25.81\00:27:28.01 "Some people run away from sin 00:27:28.04\00:27:29.38 and they look behind them to see if it's catching up." 00:27:29.41\00:27:32.88 Run to the arms of God 00:27:32.91\00:27:35.18 and He'll separate your sins a long way from you. 00:27:35.22\00:27:37.39 Amen for that? 00:27:37.42\00:27:38.92 Now let's go to number... 00:27:38.95\00:27:40.36 So if you answer the question, "What depth of confidence 00:27:40.39\00:27:43.89 can we have in the cleansing blood of Christ?" 00:27:43.93\00:27:47.10 Our sins are removed, removed and separated, 00:27:47.13\00:27:51.03 this is not just removal but separated from us. 00:27:51.07\00:27:55.77 Wonderful. Wonderful. 00:27:55.80\00:27:57.41 Number 18. 00:27:57.44\00:27:58.77 We're moving right along. 00:27:58.81\00:28:01.11 "How can I know that Jesus will completely remake me 00:28:01.14\00:28:06.08 into His image?" 00:28:06.11\00:28:08.48 "How can I know 00:28:08.52\00:28:10.12 that Jesus will completely remake me 00:28:10.15\00:28:12.75 into His image?" 00:28:12.79\00:28:15.09 We have this... 00:28:15.12\00:28:17.99 I think we still have it, honey, around the house. 00:28:18.03\00:28:20.26 It's incased in plastic. 00:28:20.30\00:28:22.60 A number of years ago, my wife's aunt, Aunt Sissy, 00:28:22.63\00:28:28.94 some of you who know our family, 00:28:28.97\00:28:30.61 you'll know exactly who that person is. 00:28:30.64\00:28:33.01 She had this really wonderful old 00:28:33.04\00:28:35.31 kind of a China vase. 00:28:35.34\00:28:37.15 It was something beautiful made of pottery. 00:28:37.18\00:28:39.98 And after she passed away, my wife really liked that 00:28:40.02\00:28:42.95 and was trying to bring it home, 00:28:42.98\00:28:46.42 wrapped it in plastic, 00:28:46.45\00:28:48.16 or can you all tell where I'm headed with this? 00:28:48.19\00:28:50.66 This wonderful, nice, old family piece of, 00:28:50.69\00:28:55.66 what do you think happened to it? 00:28:55.70\00:28:57.47 It broke. 00:28:57.50\00:28:59.07 And it didn't just break, it broke, 00:28:59.10\00:29:02.37 but it stayed wrapped in the plastic. 00:29:02.40\00:29:03.74 And I said to my wife, "Honey, can we throw that out?" 00:29:03.77\00:29:07.41 She said, "No, it's important. It's special." 00:29:07.44\00:29:12.28 I said, "Honey, but it's broken." 00:29:12.31\00:29:13.78 She said, "But no. It's Aunt Sissy's." 00:29:13.82\00:29:17.65 "But what are we going to do with it?" 00:29:17.69\00:29:19.02 She said, "Glue it back together." 00:29:19.05\00:29:22.89 Now how do you glue something 00:29:22.92\00:29:25.09 that's in like more than 100 pieces 00:29:25.13\00:29:27.63 not including the splinters? 00:29:27.66\00:29:29.66 And I said, "Honey..." 00:29:29.70\00:29:31.40 It's in the house somewhere. 00:29:31.43\00:29:32.87 I'm just doing that for posterity purposes. 00:29:32.90\00:29:35.34 But based on my work, 00:29:35.37\00:29:37.31 it'll never be like it used to be. 00:29:37.34\00:29:39.54 Because if I start that process of trying to get 00:29:39.57\00:29:41.34 that thing together, 00:29:41.38\00:29:42.71 it is not going to be what it used to be originally. 00:29:42.74\00:29:45.75 But that is different. Huh? Make a mosaic out of it. 00:29:45.78\00:29:49.65 Mosaic, that's a good thing. 00:29:49.68\00:29:51.02 Hey, you know, that's good idea. 00:29:51.05\00:29:52.39 Put it in pottery. 00:29:52.42\00:29:54.09 Maybe there's some help for that or some hope. 00:29:54.12\00:29:55.62 Maybe we could maintain its nostalgic value. 00:29:55.66\00:29:58.69 However, it's not going to be how it used to be 00:29:58.73\00:30:00.86 because I cannot put it back to where it was. 00:30:00.90\00:30:03.26 However, when the Lord begins a work to restore a man, 00:30:03.30\00:30:07.24 this question, the answer to this question should give us 00:30:07.27\00:30:09.84 all confidence. 00:30:09.87\00:30:11.21 That the Lord doesn't stop part way and say, "Oh man. 00:30:11.24\00:30:15.94 Man, Glenn is a really hard case. 00:30:15.98\00:30:18.41 There are a certain things I just can't fix. 00:30:18.45\00:30:20.85 Well, I'm just going to have to put Glenn to the side 00:30:20.88\00:30:22.25 and work on somebody else." 00:30:22.28\00:30:23.75 Look at this text. You know it. 00:30:23.79\00:30:26.05 It's one of our favorite ones. Philippians 1:6. 00:30:26.09\00:30:28.89 It answers the question, "How can I know that Jesus will 00:30:28.92\00:30:30.69 completely remake me into His image?" 00:30:30.73\00:30:32.93 Here's the answer. Here is the answer. 00:30:32.96\00:30:35.86 You want to read it together with me. 00:30:35.90\00:30:37.37 It's on the screen. What are the first two words? 00:30:37.40\00:30:39.90 Being confident. 00:30:39.93\00:30:41.27 "Being confident of this very thing, 00:30:41.30\00:30:44.17 that He who has begun 00:30:44.21\00:30:45.91 a good work in you will," do what, 00:30:45.94\00:30:49.74 "complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." 00:30:49.78\00:30:54.12 Thank God for completion 00:30:54.15\00:30:55.72 'cause there are a lot of projects 00:30:55.75\00:30:57.09 that are done but they're not completed. 00:30:57.12\00:30:58.55 Somebody once said to me, 00:30:58.59\00:30:59.92 "It's not how much you do but how much do you get done." 00:30:59.95\00:31:04.29 Right? 00:31:04.33\00:31:05.66 And I heard another definition for busy this weekend. 00:31:05.69\00:31:07.73 What is the definition? 00:31:12.73\00:31:14.57 I have it in my Bible. I wrote it down here. 00:31:14.60\00:31:16.91 Oh, here it is. Great. 00:31:16.94\00:31:19.94 Bound under Satan's yoke. 00:31:19.97\00:31:23.35 B-U-S-Y, bound under Satan's yoke. 00:31:23.38\00:31:25.81 Busy, bound under Satan's yoke. Busy. 00:31:25.85\00:31:28.98 There are a lot of people that are busy, 00:31:29.02\00:31:30.35 they're getting nothing done. 00:31:30.39\00:31:32.39 But the Lord is not that way. He is confident. 00:31:32.42\00:31:34.66 We have to be confident. 00:31:34.69\00:31:36.02 Paul is saying to us, "Be confident, 00:31:36.06\00:31:39.43 be confident that the Lord will finish the work 00:31:39.46\00:31:41.60 He started in us." 00:31:41.63\00:31:42.96 So if you see bits of yourself still showing up 00:31:43.00\00:31:45.33 on a day-by-day basis, 00:31:45.37\00:31:48.74 don't long to see that 00:31:48.77\00:31:50.11 but know that whatever you see now, 00:31:50.14\00:31:51.61 one day will not appear anymore. 00:31:51.64\00:31:53.78 The Lord will completely remake us in His image. 00:31:53.81\00:31:56.64 Amen for that? Amen. 00:31:56.68\00:31:59.68 Number 19. Number 19. 00:31:59.71\00:32:03.59 Now put this, we're going to transition 00:32:03.62\00:32:05.02 just a moment to a section that we don't often consider, 00:32:05.05\00:32:07.82 and question number 19 00:32:07.86\00:32:09.19 is that transitional aspect of it. 00:32:09.22\00:32:12.13 Because sometimes, in the process of us 00:32:12.16\00:32:13.86 being remade in the image of Christ, 00:32:13.90\00:32:16.03 sometimes we get discouraged, don't we all? 00:32:16.06\00:32:18.87 Sometimes, we say, 00:32:18.90\00:32:20.24 "Oh, man, I really blew it today," 00:32:20.27\00:32:24.57 or "I didn't see that one coming," 00:32:24.61\00:32:27.84 or "If I had only known, I could have avoided that." 00:32:27.88\00:32:31.05 Well, the Lord wants us not to be discouraged, 00:32:31.08\00:32:32.81 and so I included this question, 00:32:32.85\00:32:34.62 question number 19, and read it with me. 00:32:34.65\00:32:37.25 It says, "When discouraged... 00:32:37.29\00:32:39.25 When discouraged by our character, 00:32:39.29\00:32:42.32 what assurance do we have?" 00:32:42.36\00:32:45.73 "When discouraged by our character 00:32:45.76\00:32:48.66 what assurance do we have?" 00:32:48.70\00:32:52.03 Because sometimes, we get discouraged. 00:32:52.07\00:32:54.00 There are those that said, "For six months, 00:32:54.04\00:32:57.27 I didn't even try a cigarette, I didn't even want a cigarette. 00:32:57.31\00:33:01.74 I didn't even want a drink. 00:33:01.78\00:33:03.11 I mean I knew I was clear but I want to see 00:33:03.14\00:33:05.71 how delivered I really was." 00:33:05.75\00:33:09.72 That's a danger. 00:33:09.75\00:33:11.09 Don't go to the places that were your temptations 00:33:11.12\00:33:12.99 to find out whether or not you're no longer tempted 00:33:13.02\00:33:15.19 because as long as the devil's around, 00:33:15.22\00:33:16.62 what's going to be around? 00:33:16.66\00:33:17.99 Temptation. 00:33:18.03\00:33:19.36 Don't expose yourself to temptation to see 00:33:19.39\00:33:21.56 whether or not you could resist it. 00:33:21.60\00:33:23.80 The Bible says, "Resist the devil 00:33:23.83\00:33:26.20 and," he'll do what, "flee from you." 00:33:26.23\00:33:28.04 So don't meander in the maze 00:33:28.07\00:33:30.91 where temptation will catch you. 00:33:30.94\00:33:32.37 But if you're discouraged, 00:33:32.41\00:33:33.74 here's a text that should encourage you. 00:33:33.78\00:33:35.28 I John 3:2 is the verse we're going to read together. 00:33:35.31\00:33:39.18 1 John 3:2. 00:33:39.21\00:33:42.02 "When discouraged by our character, 00:33:42.05\00:33:44.15 what assurance do we have?" 00:33:44.19\00:33:46.19 "What assurance do we have?" Here it is. 00:33:46.22\00:33:49.46 "Beloved," the word that comes next is what word? 00:33:49.49\00:33:54.33 "Now we are children of God," and if you're discouraged, 00:33:54.36\00:34:00.44 this part should really find home, 00:34:00.47\00:34:02.64 "and it has not yet been revealed 00:34:02.67\00:34:04.87 what we shall be." 00:34:04.91\00:34:07.31 Matter is I don't know what I'm going to look like 00:34:07.34\00:34:08.68 when this is all done. 00:34:08.71\00:34:10.75 "But we know that when He is revealed, 00:34:10.78\00:34:13.82 we shall be like," who, "like Him, 00:34:13.85\00:34:16.82 for we shall see Him as He is." 00:34:16.85\00:34:19.95 Now I want to emphasize something there that 00:34:19.99\00:34:22.52 maybe we've read this text before, 00:34:22.56\00:34:23.89 and I know we have, 00:34:23.93\00:34:25.26 I have read this text a lot of times, 00:34:25.29\00:34:26.90 but the reason why we're going to see him 00:34:26.93\00:34:28.40 as He is 00:34:28.43\00:34:30.00 is because we're going to see Him in us 00:34:30.03\00:34:33.84 and us in Him 00:34:33.87\00:34:35.34 because we're going to be like Him. 00:34:35.37\00:34:37.74 Did you get that? 00:34:37.77\00:34:39.51 When you meet... 00:34:39.54\00:34:40.88 If you ever had a twin, 00:34:40.91\00:34:42.24 or you know, I don't have a twin, 00:34:42.28\00:34:44.18 but I know, I could imagine, 00:34:44.21\00:34:45.91 I'm imagining here because I don't have a twin. 00:34:45.95\00:34:48.48 But I've seen people that are identical, 00:34:48.52\00:34:50.99 so identical that some of them said, "We used to play, 00:34:51.02\00:34:54.02 you know, we used to play tricks 00:34:54.06\00:34:55.39 on our teachers in high school 00:34:55.42\00:34:57.03 where I'll take my brother's math test 00:34:57.06\00:34:58.66 and the teacher wouldn't even know, 00:34:58.69\00:35:00.46 and I go to the bathroom, when I came back, 00:35:00.50\00:35:02.00 it was him that was coming back." 00:35:02.03\00:35:04.30 They were so identical. 00:35:04.33\00:35:05.77 When they saw each other, they saw themselves. 00:35:05.80\00:35:09.94 When they saw themselves, 00:35:09.97\00:35:11.31 they saw each other because they were identical. 00:35:11.34\00:35:13.84 What this text is, in essence, 00:35:13.88\00:35:15.21 saying is the reason why we're going to see Him 00:35:15.24\00:35:17.05 as He is because for the first time, 00:35:17.08\00:35:19.01 we're going to see ourselves, 00:35:19.05\00:35:22.02 we're going to see Him completely reproduced in us, 00:35:22.05\00:35:25.99 and us reflecting exactly who He is. 00:35:26.02\00:35:29.02 Now you know what that means? 00:35:29.06\00:35:30.39 There's going to be no more of us left. 00:35:30.43\00:35:32.26 It's going to all be Him. 00:35:32.29\00:35:34.36 That's what is in essence being said here. 00:35:34.40\00:35:36.20 We're not going be seeing a copy of ourselves. 00:35:36.23\00:35:40.54 He is going to be seeing a copy of himself. 00:35:40.57\00:35:44.54 Amen for that? 00:35:44.57\00:35:45.91 Because Christ doesn't need to become like me, 00:35:45.94\00:35:47.94 I need to become like Him. 00:35:47.98\00:35:50.85 So when that finally happens, 00:35:50.88\00:35:52.95 we're going to see Him as He is and we're going to be like Him. 00:35:52.98\00:35:56.75 Now I don't know about you, I can't wait for that. 00:35:56.79\00:35:58.12 What do you say? 00:35:58.15\00:35:59.49 Amen. Wow. 00:35:59.52\00:36:00.86 To be like Jesus. 00:36:00.89\00:36:02.22 Remember, years ago, 00:36:02.26\00:36:03.59 and I don't want you to get sidetracked by this 00:36:03.63\00:36:05.06 but this just came to my mind, says some residue there 00:36:05.09\00:36:08.06 as one of our guests said this weekend. 00:36:08.10\00:36:10.20 Remember years ago, Elvis sang a song, 00:36:10.23\00:36:12.13 "These hands of mine will touch the hands of God." 00:36:12.17\00:36:15.44 Beautiful thought. 00:36:15.47\00:36:16.84 And then when you read the Bible, 00:36:16.87\00:36:18.24 it points out from Genesis all the way 00:36:18.27\00:36:20.61 to almost Revelation 00:36:20.64\00:36:22.51 that no man has seen God at any time. 00:36:22.54\00:36:26.75 But Revelation tells us in Revelation 21, 00:36:26.78\00:36:29.58 "And we will see His face." 00:36:29.62\00:36:34.52 And when we see His face, 00:36:34.56\00:36:35.89 we're going to see a reflection of Him in us, 00:36:35.92\00:36:39.03 not a reflection of us in Him. 00:36:39.06\00:36:41.50 We will be complete in Him. We will see him as he is. 00:36:41.53\00:36:44.33 So what do you put down for the answer? 00:36:44.37\00:36:46.57 "When discouraged by our character, 00:36:46.60\00:36:47.94 what assurance do we have?" 00:36:47.97\00:36:49.37 Put it this way. 00:36:49.40\00:36:50.74 One day, we will be just like Him. 00:36:50.77\00:36:53.84 We will be just like Him. 00:36:53.88\00:36:55.21 But connected to Philippians 1:6, 00:36:55.24\00:36:57.11 because He's working on that, 00:36:57.15\00:36:58.81 that's a process that's still going on. 00:36:58.85\00:37:01.42 Now we're going to transition a little here, 00:37:01.45\00:37:03.32 and in the question number 20, 00:37:03.35\00:37:05.55 we're going to begin to consider something 00:37:05.59\00:37:06.99 that we often don't consider. 00:37:07.02\00:37:10.06 All right? 00:37:10.09\00:37:11.43 Something we often don't consider. 00:37:11.46\00:37:13.53 Here it is. 00:37:16.73\00:37:21.17 Number 20. 00:37:21.20\00:37:22.64 "From what vantage point do we find our assurance?" 00:37:22.67\00:37:28.91 From what vantage point do we find our assurance?" 00:37:28.94\00:37:34.98 In other words, where do we find it? 00:37:35.02\00:37:36.38 Where is it discovered? 00:37:36.42\00:37:38.42 Where do we get connected to it? 00:37:38.45\00:37:40.12 And we're going to the book of Colossians 1. 00:37:40.16\00:37:43.12 Colossians 1:27. 00:37:43.16\00:37:47.00 Colossians 1:27. 00:37:47.03\00:37:51.33 Okay. Here it is. 00:37:51.37\00:37:53.80 I hear pages turning. 00:37:53.84\00:37:55.77 But let's turn to that text together. 00:37:55.80\00:37:57.77 All right. 00:37:57.81\00:37:59.14 On the screen, it says, "To them," who willed, 00:37:59.17\00:38:02.94 "God willed to make known 00:38:02.98\00:38:05.45 what are the riches 00:38:05.48\00:38:07.18 of the glory of this mystery 00:38:07.22\00:38:10.55 among the Gentiles, which is," what, 00:38:10.59\00:38:13.69 "Christ," where, "in you, the hope of glory." 00:38:13.72\00:38:17.49 Now do you see the connection 00:38:17.53\00:38:18.86 with the verse we just read before that? 00:38:18.89\00:38:21.23 The reason why we're going to see Christ 00:38:21.26\00:38:22.60 as He is is 00:38:22.63\00:38:23.97 because where is He going to be? 00:38:24.00\00:38:25.33 In us. 00:38:25.37\00:38:27.00 He is going to be completely reproduced in us. 00:38:27.04\00:38:29.17 Our characters are going to be consumed 00:38:29.20\00:38:30.77 by His character. 00:38:30.81\00:38:32.27 We're going to see Him finally 00:38:32.31\00:38:33.64 because we're going to be just like Him. 00:38:33.68\00:38:35.14 But here's the key to the question. 00:38:35.18\00:38:36.81 "From what vantage point do we find our assurance?" 00:38:36.85\00:38:39.85 Now I want to ask you to give me the answer. 00:38:39.88\00:38:41.72 "From what vantage point do we find our assurance?" 00:38:41.75\00:38:47.32 It's in that verse. 00:38:47.36\00:38:50.19 What in that verse gives you the assurance? 00:38:50.23\00:38:52.19 Okay. That's true. Christ in us. 00:38:57.83\00:39:02.00 What keeps us going? What keeps us going? 00:39:02.04\00:39:04.67 Hope of glory. 00:39:04.71\00:39:06.04 Ha. Hope. I just want you to put hope. 00:39:06.07\00:39:09.41 From what vantage point... 00:39:09.44\00:39:11.65 I have hope. 00:39:11.68\00:39:13.18 I don't see myself like I am supposed to be, 00:39:13.21\00:39:15.15 but I have hope. 00:39:15.18\00:39:16.58 I don't know how it's going to happen, but I have hope. 00:39:16.62\00:39:20.06 I don't know if I'm going to ever overcome this, 00:39:20.09\00:39:21.69 but I'll submit to Christ every day, 00:39:21.72\00:39:23.06 and I have hope. 00:39:23.09\00:39:24.69 And hope does not disappoint. Amen. 00:39:24.73\00:39:28.13 Paul even says, "We are saved in this hope." 00:39:28.16\00:39:31.23 So as long as hope, 00:39:31.27\00:39:32.93 I don't want to sound like a cliche, 00:39:32.97\00:39:35.40 you can't get away from the phrase, 00:39:35.44\00:39:36.77 "Keep hope alive," but as long as hope is alive, 00:39:36.81\00:39:40.04 we know that who we are now 00:39:40.08\00:39:41.68 is not who we are going to be eternally. 00:39:41.71\00:39:43.85 If you can keep that hope alive, 00:39:43.88\00:39:45.61 Christ in you is the, together, hope of glory. 00:39:45.65\00:39:51.02 So long as we have Christ working in us, 00:39:51.05\00:39:53.15 we've got hope that one day we will be in glory, 00:39:53.19\00:39:55.76 and not only that, one day, 00:39:55.79\00:39:57.13 we will completely reflect His glory, 00:39:57.16\00:40:00.10 not just be in glory, but one day, 00:40:00.13\00:40:01.80 completely reflect His glory. 00:40:01.83\00:40:03.87 But without hope, sometimes... 00:40:03.90\00:40:06.53 Let me use an illustration. 00:40:06.57\00:40:07.90 When our car was in an accident, 00:40:07.94\00:40:11.37 and we had over $10,000 worth of damage, 00:40:11.41\00:40:14.64 I looked at it and I thought, 00:40:14.68\00:40:17.85 "I hope they totaled it out," 00:40:17.88\00:40:20.75 because there's nothing more sad 00:40:20.78\00:40:22.12 than having a brand new car, 00:40:22.15\00:40:23.49 and before you drive it for seven months, 00:40:23.52\00:40:26.05 it just gets hit by a deer. 00:40:26.09\00:40:29.02 We didn't hit a deer, deer hit us. 00:40:29.06\00:40:31.76 No, really. 00:40:31.79\00:40:33.13 On our way to somebody's house, 00:40:33.16\00:40:34.50 the deer stood on the side of the road, saw us coming, 00:40:34.53\00:40:38.33 waited until we got really close, 00:40:38.37\00:40:39.83 lowered its horns, and ran right into us. 00:40:39.87\00:40:42.47 Hit him at 62 miles an hour, the car didn't flip, 00:40:42.50\00:40:45.94 God was in control of the vehicle, 00:40:45.97\00:40:48.08 but I looked at the damage and I thought, 00:40:48.11\00:40:51.01 "Look at the car. 00:40:51.05\00:40:52.38 There's no hope of it ever being like it was before." 00:40:52.41\00:40:54.35 Well, somebody saw the car and said, 00:40:54.38\00:40:55.72 "Oh, we could restore it completely, 00:40:55.75\00:40:57.22 exactly how it was." 00:40:57.25\00:40:58.89 And when I got it back three or four weeks later, 00:40:58.92\00:41:01.92 there were no traces of what happened 00:41:01.96\00:41:03.89 that fateful night in December, a number of years ago. 00:41:03.93\00:41:07.76 What that's in essence saying is 00:41:07.80\00:41:09.33 when we look at the brokenness in our lives, 00:41:09.36\00:41:11.43 if hope is not continuing to be alive, 00:41:11.47\00:41:13.97 pulsating in us that we can be exactly 00:41:14.00\00:41:15.94 where God intends for us to be, 00:41:15.97\00:41:18.01 then we won't see the rest of it." 00:41:18.04\00:41:19.87 Christ is in us is our hope, 00:41:19.91\00:41:21.98 but keep that hope burning 00:41:22.01\00:41:24.21 that one day we will not only be in glory 00:41:24.25\00:41:27.25 but we're going to reflect God's glory. 00:41:27.28\00:41:29.18 So the answer is one word. 00:41:29.22\00:41:30.55 From what vantage point do we find our assurance? 00:41:30.59\00:41:33.02 From the vantage point of what? 00:41:33.05\00:41:34.39 Hope. Hope. 00:41:34.42\00:41:35.76 Keep that hope alive. Okay. 00:41:35.79\00:41:39.59 Moving right along to number 21. 00:41:39.63\00:41:41.26 We may not get to them all, but we're going to move along, 00:41:41.30\00:41:44.43 and you keep following along with us. 00:41:44.47\00:41:46.23 We're at question number 21 did I say? 00:41:46.27\00:41:49.60 Okay. Here it is. 00:41:49.64\00:41:51.84 Now let's get down 00:41:54.98\00:41:56.31 to the functional aspects of it. 00:41:56.34\00:41:57.85 And let me just lay the foundation. 00:41:57.88\00:42:00.08 All that we read thus far is true. 00:42:00.12\00:42:01.72 The Word of God is true, 00:42:01.75\00:42:03.08 but now I want to get down to the functional aspect. 00:42:03.12\00:42:05.75 If I said, "Okay, we have 00:42:05.79\00:42:07.12 a great big project to accomplish." 00:42:07.16\00:42:09.19 Somebody says, 00:42:09.22\00:42:10.56 "Okay, what's the first thing I do tomorrow?" 00:42:10.59\00:42:13.53 That's going to be the first thing. 00:42:13.56\00:42:14.90 We're going to begin with building this project. 00:42:14.93\00:42:16.63 What's the first thing I do when we begin this project? 00:42:16.67\00:42:19.70 Here it is. This is the first thing. 00:42:19.73\00:42:22.10 And let's lay the foundation with a question. 00:42:22.14\00:42:24.77 "How is the daily sin challenge victoriously experienced?" 00:42:24.81\00:42:30.11 "How is the daily sin challenge victoriously experienced?" 00:42:30.15\00:42:35.02 1 Corinthians 15:31 00:42:35.05\00:42:38.39 is where we find our answer. 00:42:38.42\00:42:40.16 If you have a project 00:42:40.19\00:42:41.52 that's going to be an ongoing project, 00:42:41.56\00:42:43.49 you have to know what to do every day 00:42:43.53\00:42:44.86 when you begin this project. 00:42:44.89\00:42:46.46 So there is a project going on in us. 00:42:46.49\00:42:48.70 As a matter of fact, Jim, if you think about us, 00:42:48.73\00:42:51.97 we are the site of the project, we are the project, 00:42:52.00\00:42:55.44 we are God's project. 00:42:55.47\00:42:57.31 And every day, He wants us to cooperate in that project. 00:42:57.34\00:42:59.67 How do we cooperate? Here's how we cooperate. 00:42:59.71\00:43:02.28 In the morning when we wake up, the Lord says, "Okay..." 00:43:02.31\00:43:06.01 Kabana? "Good morning, Kabana. 00:43:06.05\00:43:09.35 Today, I'm going to take one more step 00:43:09.38\00:43:12.15 in making you more like me, 00:43:12.19\00:43:13.52 but I want you to do something, 00:43:13.56\00:43:14.89 so this is going to work. 00:43:14.92\00:43:16.26 Here's the answer, okay? Are you ready, Kabana? 00:43:16.29\00:43:18.89 She is looking at me like, "What are you saying?" 00:43:18.93\00:43:22.43 Celestine? Good morning, Celestine. 00:43:22.46\00:43:24.90 I am the Lord. 00:43:24.93\00:43:26.27 I hope you had a good night's rest. 00:43:26.30\00:43:27.64 Today, I'm going to make one more step 00:43:27.67\00:43:29.37 in making you become more like me, 00:43:29.40\00:43:30.91 but I have something I want you to do." 00:43:30.94\00:43:33.48 Here's how we participate in that daily project 00:43:33.51\00:43:36.71 of becoming more like Christ. 00:43:36.75\00:43:38.18 You ready? 1 Corinthians 15:31. 00:43:38.21\00:43:41.55 Paul says, "I affirm by the boasting in you 00:43:41.58\00:43:45.25 which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord." 00:43:45.29\00:43:48.26 What does he want us to do today? 00:43:48.29\00:43:50.23 "I die daily." 00:43:50.26\00:43:53.50 If we don't... 00:43:53.53\00:43:54.86 'Cause matter of fact, 00:43:54.90\00:43:56.23 I had surgery once and somebody told me 00:43:56.26\00:43:57.73 that when I woke up out of the surgery, 00:43:57.77\00:43:59.13 I woke up fighting. 00:43:59.17\00:44:01.14 Have you ever heard that before? 00:44:01.17\00:44:03.74 The Lord does not want us to wake up 00:44:03.77\00:44:05.21 in the morning fighting with Him. 00:44:05.24\00:44:07.74 If we don't put our old nature to rest, 00:44:07.78\00:44:10.18 if we don't kill that old nature, 00:44:10.21\00:44:11.55 there's going to be 00:44:11.58\00:44:12.91 a daily morning battle with God. 00:44:12.95\00:44:15.78 We're going to get up fighting with Him 00:44:15.82\00:44:17.59 because the carnal nature is enmity 00:44:17.62\00:44:21.32 with the spiritual nature. 00:44:21.36\00:44:23.19 They are constantly in battle. They are feuding. 00:44:23.22\00:44:26.49 And the old man wants to come back to life 00:44:26.53\00:44:28.50 if we give him a breath of oxygen. 00:44:28.53\00:44:31.03 If we don't determine to kill him in the morning, 00:44:31.07\00:44:34.60 then we discover how much failure 00:44:34.64\00:44:36.71 that we experience in that day. 00:44:36.74\00:44:38.17 But when we kill him, when we say, 00:44:38.21\00:44:40.18 "Oh, I know what you're thinking, 00:44:40.21\00:44:43.45 but you're going to die." 00:44:43.48\00:44:46.31 And when he's dead, 00:44:46.35\00:44:47.68 you actually walk away feeling good 00:44:47.72\00:44:49.05 because you know what you've done, 00:44:49.08\00:44:50.42 you've submitted to the process. 00:44:50.45\00:44:51.79 And I want to tell you, when I'm not too busy, 00:44:51.82\00:44:54.76 and I praise the Lord that I'm starting to get 00:44:54.79\00:44:57.03 a little less busy 00:44:57.06\00:44:58.53 by making sure that we keep the essential things, 00:44:58.56\00:45:01.96 the essential things 00:45:02.00\00:45:03.40 because if you are going to work for God, 00:45:03.43\00:45:06.13 you've got to make sure that you're working with Him, 00:45:06.17\00:45:09.47 not just for Him. 00:45:09.50\00:45:10.84 You could do a lot of things for Him 00:45:10.87\00:45:12.21 and never allow Him to do anything for you 00:45:12.24\00:45:13.81 or in you. 00:45:13.84\00:45:15.18 But when you die daily, here's the answer. 00:45:15.21\00:45:17.38 "How is the daily sin challenge victoriously experienced?" 00:45:17.41\00:45:21.18 I want you to put two words. What are those two words? 00:45:21.22\00:45:23.52 Die daily. Die daily. Die daily. 00:45:23.55\00:45:26.99 You know that if you die... 00:45:27.02\00:45:28.72 Then half of the battle is done. 00:45:31.79\00:45:34.66 How much of the battle is done? Half. 00:45:34.70\00:45:37.40 I'm going to give you the other half 00:45:37.43\00:45:39.00 in the next question. 00:45:39.03\00:45:41.07 When you die, half of the battle is done. 00:45:41.10\00:45:45.11 But now question 22. Your favorite text? 00:45:45.14\00:45:48.21 Okay, here it is. 00:45:48.24\00:45:49.58 See, somebody else said favorite text. 00:45:49.61\00:45:51.58 But it's one of my favorites also. 00:45:51.61\00:45:53.65 Okay. Question 22. 00:45:53.68\00:45:55.78 "If we choose to die to our desires, 00:45:55.82\00:46:00.49 how then do we obtain the victory?" 00:46:00.52\00:46:03.02 I've never seen a dead person win anything. 00:46:03.06\00:46:06.86 But this text tells you how you get the victory. 00:46:06.90\00:46:09.10 If you choose to die, how do we continue the battle? 00:46:09.13\00:46:12.73 Now I want you to get this. Here it is. 00:46:12.77\00:46:15.87 Where are we turning? Tell me, everybody. 00:46:15.90\00:46:18.37 Galatians 2:20, 00:46:18.41\00:46:21.14 one of the most beautiful verses 00:46:21.18\00:46:22.54 in the Bible. 00:46:22.58\00:46:24.18 Okay, let's talk about the death part of it first. 00:46:24.21\00:46:26.92 Here it is. 00:46:26.95\00:46:28.38 "I have been," next word, "crucified with Christ." 00:46:28.42\00:46:33.22 Stop. 00:46:33.25\00:46:35.06 Crucifixion takes place, what's next? 00:46:35.09\00:46:37.83 "It is no longer I who," what, "live." 00:46:37.86\00:46:40.43 Why? Because you did what? You died. 00:46:40.46\00:46:43.23 Stop. Next part. 00:46:43.26\00:46:46.10 "But Christ lives," where, "in me," get it again, 00:46:46.13\00:46:50.61 Christ in you, the hope of glory. 00:46:50.64\00:46:53.04 You got to get this in an experiential way. 00:46:53.07\00:46:54.51 Don't run through it. I'm dead, why? 00:46:54.54\00:46:57.35 'Cause I went to the cross this morning. 00:46:57.38\00:46:59.55 I went to the cross, and the Lord nailed me there, 00:46:59.58\00:47:02.32 I went with Him to the cross and He nailed me there, 00:47:02.35\00:47:05.49 and I'm still there all day long. 00:47:05.52\00:47:07.16 I want you to understand. 00:47:07.19\00:47:08.52 Paul, the Apostle says, "For your sake, 00:47:08.56\00:47:10.59 I am crucified all day long." 00:47:10.63\00:47:13.76 You ever heard that text before? 00:47:13.80\00:47:15.13 I'll show it you. 00:47:15.16\00:47:16.50 For His sake, we are crucified all day long. 00:47:16.53\00:47:19.83 But let's keep going. 00:47:19.87\00:47:22.64 "It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives," where, 00:47:22.67\00:47:25.74 "in me." 00:47:25.77\00:47:27.11 Now we got to deal with this natural body 00:47:27.14\00:47:29.08 that's still hanging around, 00:47:29.11\00:47:30.78 "And the life which I now live in the flesh, 00:47:30.81\00:47:34.42 I live by," what, 00:47:34.45\00:47:35.78 "faith in the Son of God who," did what, 00:47:35.82\00:47:39.19 "loved me and gave Himself," how, "for me." 00:47:39.22\00:47:42.56 Now let's get this. 00:47:42.59\00:47:43.93 Let's not run past this very familiar text. 00:47:43.96\00:47:46.29 It's so familiar that sometimes we miss it. 00:47:46.33\00:47:49.83 When the Lord went to the cross some 2,000 years ago, 00:47:49.86\00:47:53.84 you've heard the song writer said 00:47:53.87\00:47:55.20 "When He was on the cross, I was on His mind." 00:47:55.24\00:47:58.64 That's the truth. 00:47:58.67\00:48:00.41 That is the Emancipation Proclamation. 00:48:00.44\00:48:02.44 "If I don't go on this cross and die 00:48:02.48\00:48:07.28 and take man's sin nature and nail it on that cross, 00:48:07.32\00:48:11.12 there's going to be no hope for Marlena, 00:48:11.15\00:48:12.95 there's going to be no hope for Dan, 00:48:12.99\00:48:14.56 there's going to be no hope for Greg, 00:48:14.59\00:48:16.09 there's going to be no hope for Mike, 00:48:16.12\00:48:17.46 nobody's going to have hope. 00:48:17.49\00:48:18.99 If I don't take that sin nature and nail it to the cross today, 00:48:19.03\00:48:22.30 I'll have nothing to offer. 00:48:22.33\00:48:23.67 I'll have no hope. 00:48:23.70\00:48:25.03 I'll have no prescription for you." 00:48:25.07\00:48:26.80 So that's why He could not save Himself, 00:48:26.84\00:48:29.10 when the suggestion was, 00:48:29.14\00:48:31.87 "Come down from the cross and save yourself." 00:48:31.91\00:48:34.01 If Jesus decided to save himself, 00:48:34.04\00:48:36.44 every one of us would have been lost. 00:48:36.48\00:48:40.48 "So to make a way for Lorraine, 00:48:40.52\00:48:44.12 I've got to crucify myself, 00:48:44.15\00:48:47.89 take that nature to the cross and nail it there, 00:48:47.92\00:48:50.56 so that later on I can offer the resurrected life, 00:48:50.59\00:48:55.23 not the crucified life." 00:48:55.26\00:48:56.60 I want you to get this now. 00:48:56.63\00:48:58.07 We've got a crucified life, justification, 00:48:58.10\00:49:01.77 but we have to have a sanctified life, 00:49:01.80\00:49:04.84 that's the resurrected life is the sanctified life. 00:49:04.87\00:49:07.08 We come to walk in the newness of life. 00:49:07.11\00:49:08.71 So here it is. 00:49:08.74\00:49:10.08 When we die daily, 00:49:10.11\00:49:11.98 justification is being imputed to us. 00:49:12.01\00:49:15.25 When we now begin to live in Christ's sanctification, 00:49:15.28\00:49:18.15 now righteousness is imparted to us. 00:49:18.19\00:49:21.09 Sounds confusing? Not really. 00:49:21.12\00:49:23.32 You die, you're dead. 00:49:23.36\00:49:24.99 Christ is alive, 00:49:25.03\00:49:26.36 and now His life is now lived out 00:49:26.39\00:49:28.36 in your body. 00:49:28.40\00:49:30.23 So how do we have hope that this flesh won't lead me 00:49:30.27\00:49:33.70 in the wrong direction today? 00:49:33.74\00:49:36.34 By letting Christ come on the inside. 00:49:36.37\00:49:39.21 Have you ever had a glove? 00:49:39.24\00:49:40.58 I got a pair of gloves in my bag. 00:49:40.61\00:49:42.14 They're all the way over there. 00:49:42.18\00:49:43.55 But if I can use the illustration, 00:49:43.58\00:49:44.95 my glove has no life in itself. 00:49:44.98\00:49:48.35 When I put my hand on the inside, 00:49:48.38\00:49:50.45 it could do some amazing things. 00:49:50.49\00:49:53.36 But when my hand comes out, it's just a glove. 00:49:53.39\00:49:56.32 That's why I'm always amazed 00:49:56.36\00:49:57.69 why people pay so much for gloves 00:49:57.73\00:49:59.73 'cause they're dead. 00:49:59.76\00:50:01.13 Now they're warm, I understand that. 00:50:01.16\00:50:02.96 Then in the very same way, 00:50:03.00\00:50:04.47 there is no value in our structure. 00:50:04.50\00:50:06.30 The value is when Christ is on the inside. 00:50:06.33\00:50:10.41 "I can do all things through Christ 00:50:10.44\00:50:13.04 which strengthens me." 00:50:13.07\00:50:14.58 Can you be victorious, Karen? 00:50:14.61\00:50:16.54 "I can do all things through Christ with," what, 00:50:16.58\00:50:18.68 "which gives me that strength." 00:50:18.71\00:50:20.45 Can a glove pick up 100 pounds? 00:50:20.48\00:50:23.15 If you think it could, just throw your glove at it. 00:50:23.18\00:50:26.22 Carry the 100 pounds from it. There will be no response. 00:50:26.25\00:50:30.09 But if you put your hand on the inside 00:50:30.13\00:50:31.53 and have the strength, 00:50:31.56\00:50:33.29 that glove can do amazing things. 00:50:33.33\00:50:35.20 But it's really not the glove, who is it? 00:50:35.23\00:50:38.93 It's the hand in the glove. Christ in us. 00:50:38.97\00:50:42.87 So when you are dead to self every day, 00:50:42.90\00:50:45.51 you have to keep in mind that the transaction 00:50:45.54\00:50:47.41 that was made at the cross was done 00:50:47.44\00:50:50.21 because He loved us and gave Himself for us. 00:50:50.25\00:50:54.65 He didn't do that just because it had to be done. 00:50:54.68\00:50:56.99 He did it out of what? 00:50:57.02\00:50:58.39 Out of love for every one of us. 00:50:58.42\00:51:00.16 Amen for that? Amen. 00:51:00.19\00:51:01.89 Wow. 00:51:01.92\00:51:03.26 That's a whole sermon right there. 00:51:03.29\00:51:05.96 Number 23. 00:51:05.99\00:51:07.33 So if you answer the question, 00:51:07.36\00:51:08.70 "If we choose to die to our desires, 00:51:08.73\00:51:10.67 how then do we obtain the victory?" 00:51:10.70\00:51:15.24 Christ lives in us. 00:51:15.27\00:51:19.47 Christ lives in us. 00:51:19.51\00:51:24.71 I've heard that they'd tell me houses... 00:51:24.75\00:51:27.02 A house will fall apart naturally 00:51:27.05\00:51:28.58 if you do nothing to it, just the cause of corrosion, 00:51:28.62\00:51:31.79 it will just fall apart naturally. 00:51:31.82\00:51:33.92 I've seen abandoned homes, people... 00:51:33.96\00:51:35.96 As a matter of fact, 00:51:35.99\00:51:37.33 I was driving the back roads of Thompsonville one day, 00:51:37.36\00:51:38.69 there was a shortcut to 64, 00:51:38.73\00:51:40.83 don't take it, there's a lot of gravel. 00:51:40.86\00:51:42.66 Have you taken it before? You know what I mean. 00:51:42.70\00:51:44.47 Lots of gravel, lots of dust, and Lord, have mercy, 00:51:44.50\00:51:47.67 when it's hot and no rain, 00:51:47.70\00:51:49.44 it's worse because your windows are tightly closed, 00:51:49.47\00:51:52.11 have you noticed the dust stills get? 00:51:52.14\00:51:54.54 Well, along that road, there was an abandoned house. 00:51:54.58\00:51:57.05 You could see on the outside, the paint chips, 00:51:57.08\00:51:58.58 and you could see the windows are not broken, 00:51:58.61\00:52:00.62 but the house looks dilapidated. 00:52:00.65\00:52:02.28 All that has to happen for you 00:52:02.32\00:52:03.65 to fall apart is you do nothing. 00:52:03.69\00:52:08.19 For the Christian, that does absolutely nothing, 00:52:08.22\00:52:12.16 by not allowing Christ to come in, 00:52:12.19\00:52:14.00 that life will fall apart naturally. 00:52:14.03\00:52:17.03 That's why I've often said, 00:52:17.07\00:52:19.60 "All that needs to happen for there 00:52:19.63\00:52:22.24 to be no progress in your life 00:52:22.27\00:52:23.61 is for the Christian to do nothing." 00:52:23.64\00:52:25.47 But if you decide to die daily, 00:52:25.51\00:52:27.24 then the Lord can begin to work in you 00:52:27.28\00:52:29.11 and carry forth that work in you 00:52:29.14\00:52:31.25 to completion. 00:52:31.28\00:52:32.68 Praise Him for that. That's why this is important. 00:52:32.71\00:52:35.88 Number 23. Number 23. Let's look at this. 00:52:35.92\00:52:41.09 So now you're dead, now you're what? 00:52:41.12\00:52:44.36 Say that, now you're dead. 00:52:44.39\00:52:46.19 Say I'm dead. Say I'm dead. I'm dead. 00:52:46.23\00:52:51.47 Didn't that sound terrible? 00:52:51.50\00:52:53.87 But all Christians are dead. They ought to be. 00:52:53.90\00:52:56.57 Dead to sin, dead to self, right? 00:52:56.60\00:53:00.14 You got to get that 00:53:00.18\00:53:01.51 because I'm leading you to a question 00:53:01.54\00:53:02.88 because if you don't admit you're dead, 00:53:02.91\00:53:04.25 then this next verse 00:53:04.28\00:53:05.61 is not going to help you at all. 00:53:05.65\00:53:06.98 Here's the question. Number 23. 00:53:07.02\00:53:09.35 "What does the daily dying to self 00:53:09.38\00:53:11.55 actually accomplish in my Christian walk?" 00:53:11.59\00:53:15.32 "What does the daily dying to self 00:53:15.36\00:53:17.63 actually accomplish in my Christian walk?" 00:53:17.66\00:53:21.20 Okay. Let's look at this. Romans 8:13. 00:53:21.23\00:53:24.77 You got to understand. What is this daily dying? 00:53:24.80\00:53:26.84 I decided to break this down really carefully. 00:53:26.87\00:53:29.57 It's like a pizza cut up into not just 8 slices, 00:53:29.60\00:53:31.81 this is like 16-sliced pizza in small bits 00:53:31.84\00:53:35.21 because, keep this in mind, 00:53:35.24\00:53:36.68 I die daily, didn't we say that? 00:53:36.71\00:53:38.81 If we die, who lives inside? Christ does. 00:53:38.85\00:53:41.72 And the life we live in the flesh, 00:53:41.75\00:53:43.08 we do it by faith. 00:53:43.12\00:53:45.09 Okay, now what happens 00:53:45.12\00:53:46.45 if I decide to die daily to self? 00:53:46.49\00:53:49.89 What actually happens? 00:53:49.92\00:53:51.26 What's actually accomplished in our lives? 00:53:51.29\00:53:53.06 Romans 8:13. Look at this. This is if you decide not to. 00:53:53.09\00:53:58.30 Here it is. 00:53:58.33\00:54:01.84 "For if you live according 00:54:01.87\00:54:04.14 to the flesh, you will," what, "die." 00:54:04.17\00:54:07.31 Now is that dying spiritually or what is that dying? 00:54:07.34\00:54:10.88 That's death, that's spiritual death, 00:54:10.91\00:54:12.45 that's physical death, that's eternal death. 00:54:12.48\00:54:14.85 "But if by the Spirit you put to death 00:54:14.88\00:54:20.06 the deeds of the body, you will, what, you will live." 00:54:20.09\00:54:22.69 So when you say, 00:54:22.72\00:54:24.06 "I die daily," what, in essence, 00:54:24.09\00:54:25.43 are you saying? 00:54:25.46\00:54:26.80 You're in essence saying, "You didn't commit suicide, 00:54:26.83\00:54:30.30 what you, in essence, 00:54:30.33\00:54:31.67 did is your flesh has certain deeds 00:54:31.70\00:54:35.34 that it lusts to do." 00:54:35.37\00:54:38.54 Are you following me carefully? 00:54:38.57\00:54:39.94 Everybody has a different struggle, 00:54:39.97\00:54:42.04 but that struggle is often based on the things 00:54:42.08\00:54:43.61 that you imbibe in, 00:54:43.65\00:54:44.98 the things that you continue to yield to. 00:54:45.01\00:54:47.02 Your flesh has a certain desire, 00:54:47.05\00:54:48.88 and if you don't put yourself to death, 00:54:48.92\00:54:51.32 these deeds are going to find themselves 00:54:51.35\00:54:53.39 working every day in your life. 00:54:53.42\00:54:56.02 That's why it says, "But if by the Spirit, 00:54:56.06\00:54:58.66 you put to death the deeds of the body, you will die." 00:54:58.69\00:55:02.23 The deeds of the body happen naturally 00:55:02.26\00:55:05.13 when you don't put your spiritual life 00:55:05.17\00:55:07.50 on the front line. 00:55:07.54\00:55:08.87 When you don't give Christ the place 00:55:08.90\00:55:10.24 that He desires to have, 00:55:10.27\00:55:11.64 these deeds happen without you even knowing. 00:55:11.67\00:55:15.58 That's why some people can tell you off 00:55:15.61\00:55:17.11 in a Christian environment that are Christians. 00:55:17.15\00:55:21.95 And they'll do it like a second nature, 00:55:21.98\00:55:25.69 in fact, it's first nature. 00:55:25.72\00:55:28.42 Something's Christians can do and they wonder, 00:55:28.46\00:55:30.29 "I didn't mean to do that," 00:55:30.33\00:55:32.06 when you don't put to death the deeds of the flesh. 00:55:32.09\00:55:35.46 And if you want to see the deeds of the flesh, 00:55:35.50\00:55:36.83 go quickly with me, since we don't have to rush. 00:55:36.87\00:55:39.47 I know we don't have much time left 00:55:39.50\00:55:41.00 but I want you to see the deeds very carefully. 00:55:41.04\00:55:43.04 Galatians, are you turned to Galatians? 00:55:43.07\00:55:45.47 Yes, you are. 00:55:45.51\00:55:48.21 I was going to tell you what page, 00:55:48.24\00:55:49.64 we do it in our Sabbath school class. 00:55:49.68\00:55:52.18 All right? Galatians 5. 00:55:52.21\00:55:55.35 We may wind down with this tonight 00:55:55.38\00:55:56.72 because I don't have much time. 00:55:56.75\00:55:58.49 Okay. Galatians 5:16. 00:55:58.52\00:56:01.66 "I say then, walk in the Spirit, 00:56:01.69\00:56:05.63 and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 00:56:05.66\00:56:08.26 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit," Galatians 5:17, 00:56:08.30\00:56:12.37 "And the Spirit against the flesh." 00:56:12.40\00:56:13.74 Do you see the battle there? 00:56:13.77\00:56:15.10 So you have to decide 00:56:15.14\00:56:16.47 which side you're going to join. 00:56:16.50\00:56:17.84 And it says, 00:56:17.87\00:56:19.21 "And these are contrary to one another," 00:56:19.24\00:56:20.58 they love to fight, 00:56:20.61\00:56:21.94 "so that you do not do the things that you wish. 00:56:21.98\00:56:24.58 But if you are led by the spirit, 00:56:24.61\00:56:30.12 you are not under the law." 00:56:30.15\00:56:32.62 The biggest mistake that people have made there 00:56:32.65\00:56:34.72 is thinking that you're under the Commandments. 00:56:34.76\00:56:36.93 This is the law of sin and death. 00:56:36.96\00:56:39.33 If you are led by the spirit, 00:56:39.36\00:56:40.86 that carnal law can't control you. 00:56:40.90\00:56:43.13 In other words, Christ has cut all the strings 00:56:43.16\00:56:45.17 to the puppeteer called Satan. 00:56:45.20\00:56:47.54 You're no longer under his control, 00:56:47.57\00:56:48.97 that's what that actually means. 00:56:49.00\00:56:51.04 But if the strings are not cut, look at the next verse. 00:56:51.07\00:56:53.88 "Now the works of the flesh are evident 00:56:53.91\00:56:56.28 which are adultery, 00:56:56.31\00:56:58.15 fornication, uncleanness, licentiousness, idolatry, 00:56:58.18\00:57:01.75 sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, 00:57:01.78\00:57:05.05 selfish ambition, dissensions, heresies, envy, murder, 00:57:05.09\00:57:08.29 drunkenness, revelries," 00:57:08.32\00:57:09.69 I've got to stop and take a breath. 00:57:09.72\00:57:11.99 "And the like of which I tell you beforehand, 00:57:12.03\00:57:14.46 just as I also told you in time past, 00:57:14.50\00:57:16.16 that those who practice such things 00:57:16.20\00:57:17.77 will not inherit the kingdom of God." 00:57:17.80\00:57:20.30 Breath. 00:57:20.34\00:57:22.30 "But the fruit of the spirit is." 00:57:22.34\00:57:25.27 See the contrast between those 00:57:25.31\00:57:27.18 who don't die and those who do die? 00:57:27.21\00:57:29.14 What a list of things that happen that you'll say, 00:57:29.18\00:57:31.35 "Lord, have mercy, save me." 00:57:31.38\00:57:34.68 But if you die daily, 00:57:34.72\00:57:36.82 if you die and allow the Lord to live in you, 00:57:36.85\00:57:39.92 the deeds of the flesh will be not only mortified, 00:57:39.95\00:57:43.43 they'll be crucified, they'll be obliterated, 00:57:43.46\00:57:47.13 and you'll be able to experience 00:57:47.16\00:57:48.50 what it really means 00:57:48.53\00:57:49.86 to have a strong spiritual walk with Christ. 00:57:49.90\00:57:52.27 It's always nice when the day ends 00:57:52.30\00:57:54.17 and there is nothing to fail. 00:57:54.20\00:57:55.54 So friends, continue studying God's Word, 00:57:55.57\00:57:57.37 and the subjects 00:57:57.41\00:57:58.74 that are not very clear will one day 00:57:58.77\00:58:00.61 come into a sharper focus. 00:58:00.64\00:58:02.84 God bless you. 00:58:02.88\00:58:04.28
