00:18 Hello, friends and welcome to
00:19 another "A Sharper Focus" edition here 00:22 in the Midwest, Thompsonville. 00:25 I always like to say the biggest little city 00:27 in the world because God is doing amazing things here. 00:30 Can you all say, amen. Amen. 00:32 And so we like to welcome you again 00:33 to a continued study on how to be delivered. 00:37 We like you to encourage your friends 00:38 and your family members to join you right now. 00:41 Just sit down for the next hour or little less than that 00:44 and enjoy a wonderful walk through the word of God 00:47 as we study how to live a spiritual life, 00:50 in what kind of body. 00:52 Natural body. In what kind of body? 00:54 Natural body. Natural body. 00:56 That's what we've to do 00:57 as we're called to be Christians. 00:58 We've to live in a world 01:00 surrounded by challenges everyday, 01:02 but the Lord gives us strength to be victorious 01:05 over this natural body as we walk 01:08 in this spiritual relationship. 01:10 If you like to join us in our lessons that 01:12 you can go to our website asf.3abn.org 01:17 and download the lesson for tonight. 01:20 Looks like this, this entitled delivered. 01:23 How to be delivered? 01:25 Now we began on our last broadcast 01:27 and tonight we're gonna begin on question number four. 01:31 But before we do anything more, 01:32 we're gonna have prayer, 01:33 we gonna sing a song "Victory in Jesus" 01:36 which is becoming like our theme song, 01:38 because that's what we're talking about 01:39 "How to have victory in Jesus." 01:41 So let's have a word of prayer, 01:44 sing a song and then get into our study. 01:47 Our Father in heaven, we thank you Lord 01:48 for the opportunity tonight. 01:50 Anytime You give us the strength 01:52 we've in our bodies and the privilege to open Your word. 01:56 We know that You will guide us 01:57 by the presence of Your Holy Spirit. 02:00 Father, we want to please You. 02:02 We want to serve You in spirit and in truth. 02:05 And You said to us whatever we do, 02:07 do all to the glory of God. 02:08 So teach us Father, how to live for Your glory. 02:13 Be in our study, make the subject clear, 02:15 and bind our hearts even closer 02:17 to one another and to You. 02:20 In Jesus name, we pray, amen. Amen. 02:24 Now join us if you know the song. 02:25 It's a "Victory in Jesus." 02:26 It's gonna appear on our screen. 02:28 It's not gonna be on the television screen, 02:29 but if you know the song sing along with us, 02:32 because that's our theme "Victory in Christ." 02:44 I heard an old, old story 02:47 How the Savior came from glory 02:51 How He gave His life on Calvary 02:55 To save a wretch like me 02:59 I heard about His groaning 03:02 Of His precious blood's atoning 03:06 Then I repented of my sins 03:10 And won the victory Raise that chorus. 03:14 O victory in Jesus My Savior, forever 03:21 He sought me and bought me 03:25 With His redeeming blood 03:29 He loved me ere I knew Him 03:33 And all my love is due Him 03:37 He plunged me to victory 03:40 Beneath the cleansing flood 03:44 I heard about a mansion 03:48 He has built for me in glory 03:52 And I heard about the streets of gold 03:55 Beyond the crystal sea About the angels singing 04:03 And the old redemption story 04:07 And some sweet day I'll sing up there 04:11 The song of victory 04:14 O victory in Jesus My Savior, forever 04:22 He sought me and bought me 04:26 With His redeeming blood 04:29 He loved me ere I knew Him 04:33 And all my love is due Him 04:37 He plunged me to victory 04:41 Beneath the cleansing flood 04:44 He plunged me to victory 04:48 Beneath the cleansing flood 04:55 Amen. Amen. 04:57 Now once again if you don't have 04:58 a copy of the lesson go to asf.3abn.org 05:02 and download a copy of lesson 004. 05:05 How to be delivered-- in our local audience 05:08 we don't have a copy. 05:09 There is someone at the end of the paper, 05:10 they make sure everyone has the copy here in our room, 05:12 I appreciate that very, very much. 05:15 You know the reason for this topic tonight is-- 05:18 lot of times when people join the church, 05:21 often we join the church based on agreeing 05:24 with the 28 fundamentals. 05:27 Used to be 27, now we've 28. 05:29 Which is not a new teaching, 05:30 just an expansion of one of those that 05:32 we felt needed more emphasis. 05:35 But a lot of times when we join the church 05:37 and give our lives to Christ, 05:38 we say yes I believe in the Sabbath, 05:40 yes I believe in the State of the Dead what 05:42 the Bible teaches about that. 05:44 But then the thing that we often don't know about 05:46 or know very much about is how to live 05:49 a victorious Christian life from day to day. 05:52 Because it's quite a different life 05:53 than it was before we gave our lives to Christ. 05:56 In other words, we lived a natural life 05:59 in a natural body before Christ, which is easy, 06:03 because we're going in the direction 06:04 of our natural inclinations or naturalized in a natural body. 06:09 But then when you gave your life to Christ, 06:11 you still have the natural body 06:13 but now you've to live the spiritual life. 06:16 And so what I would like to begin tonight 06:17 is a particular scripture we covered in our last study. 06:20 We're not going to go to that particular question, 06:22 but our topic tonight is, "How to be Delivered." 06:24 Say that with me how to be what? 06:26 Delivered. "How to be delivered." 06:29 Now go with to Second Corinthians, 06:32 Chapter 5 and verse 17. 06:35 Second Corinthians, Chapter 5 and verse 17. 06:44 "There is a change in our lives after we accept Christ." 06:48 Amen. Thank you so much. 06:51 "There is a change in our lives 06:53 after we accept Christ." Amen. 06:55 And that change is not something that 06:57 we can see visibly. 07:00 But as time goes on, 07:02 the changes begin to manifest themselves visibly. 07:05 In other words, we begin to live a life 07:07 in the presence of others 07:08 that is different than a life we live before Christ. 07:12 But the reason for that is the change, 07:15 kind of like a I'm a flashlight man, 07:17 I was raised in a home where 07:18 there are lot of flashlights. 07:20 And every now and then, I've to put new flashlights, 07:23 new flashlight batteries in the flash light. 07:27 Now the flashlight doesn't change, 07:30 but the batteries-- what happens to the batteries? 07:33 They die. They die eventually. 07:34 So if the batteries are dead, 07:36 what has to happen for the light to shine? 07:39 Come on somebody tell me. 07:41 You have to get new batteries. 07:43 Where does the change take place, 07:44 on the outside of the flashlight 07:46 or the inside of the flashlight? 07:47 Inside. On the inside. 07:49 And so what happens is in order for our light 07:51 to shine before we can see the visible 07:54 difference on the outside, 07:55 before the light begins to shine, 07:57 the change has to first take place where? 07:59 On the inside. 08:00 Notice Second Corinthians 5 and verse 17. 08:04 Those of you who know this passage 08:05 know by heart very well. 08:07 It says, let's read this one together. 08:09 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ," 08:12 he is a what "new creation" 08:15 old things have what "passed away, 08:18 behold," how many things " all things become new." 08:22 One day, you know, 08:23 I've so many batteries around house, 08:25 it's hard to tell which ones are new 08:26 and which ones are old. 08:27 That's why recently I brought a voltage tester. 08:30 You know, with red and blue leads, 08:32 I mean red and black leads. 08:33 And so when I take the batteries 08:35 I buy them by the pack loads like 18 or 24 at a time. 08:40 But some times the new ones get mixed in with the old. 08:43 So I've got to take my battery tester 08:45 put them to the positive and negative leads 08:47 and find out if there is any power on the inside. 08:50 Now the one guarantee that 08:51 we've is when the Spirit of God comes, 08:54 we're going to have power on the inside, amen. Amen. 08:57 So if anyone is in Christ is a new creation. 09:00 He is what kind of creation? 09:01 New creation. New creation. 09:03 What passes away? 09:04 Old ones. Old things. 09:06 To illustrate that one day I put an old battery 09:08 in the flashlight with the new battery. 09:10 You know what happened? The light was dim. 09:13 And I tested the new battery and I thought well, 09:16 its full voltage what's wrong. 09:17 And I realized in order for there to be 09:20 full power there cannot be mixture 09:22 a mixture between the old and the new. 09:24 Amen. Why? 09:28 You got to have both new batteries, 09:30 you're not going to get that piercing white light, 09:32 if you got an old battery 09:34 and a new battery in the same flashlight. 09:36 It's gonna be diminished power. 09:38 Sometimes we come into the relationship with Christ 09:40 and we want to hold on to some of the old things 09:43 and we want to hold on to say, some of the new things. 09:47 And the light is not as bright as God intends for it to be. 09:50 But for there to be a glory that gives God glory, 09:54 both batteries have to be new. 09:56 If anyone is in Christ, 09:57 he is a what kind of creation? New creation. 10:00 Old things have passed away, 10:02 behold all things are become new. 10:04 Now go with me, let's go and start diving into this. 10:07 Because it is not just that we're new, 10:11 but there is something else that 10:12 happens after we are new. 10:14 I'm going to go to question number four, 10:15 which is our first question for tonight. 10:18 And we may have covered this, 10:19 but I think it fits right into the context 10:21 that's why I chose to begin with this one tonight. 10:23 Question number four, and it's on your syllabus. 10:27 How does the Bible 10:28 further explain the term "passed away?" 10:32 We're gonna go to Romans, Chapter 6 and what verse. 10:37 Verse 3, Romans Chapter 6 and verse 3. 10:39 Romans is the old man, new man chapter. 10:43 It shows you where you were 10:44 and where you can be if you're in Christ. 10:47 So the question is how does the Bible 10:49 further explain the term "passed away?" 10:52 Romans 6 verse 3 reads as follows. Okay. 11:00 And Romans 6 verse 3, that's what I said, right. 11:05 Okay, here I am. 11:06 "Or do you know that as many of us 11:09 as were baptized into Jesus Christ 11:13 were baptized into His" what. 11:15 "Into His death?" 11:16 So the term passed away means what? Death. 11:20 Whenever somebody passes away, what do they do? 11:23 They don't move to another neighborhood. 11:26 Well, okay, they don't move voluntarily, 11:28 but they do have a new residence. 11:30 They're on the cemetery now. 11:31 They're there temporarily until Jesus comes 11:33 and hopefully it's the first resurrection. 11:36 But what has to understand here, 11:37 when we talk about all things have passed away. 11:41 It is not natural for us to say 11:42 we want to lay down the old things, 11:45 because the body wrestles against us 11:50 wanting to let go of the old things. 11:53 So something has to change in the-- not only in our mind 11:58 but something has to change in our bodies. 12:01 Something has to change, 12:02 many things as a matter of fact have to change. 12:04 One of them is not just that we get a new attitude, 12:07 but we get a power that we did not have 12:09 before the Spirit of God moves into our lives. 12:13 And so that's what the Bible says in Philippians 4:13. 12:16 "I can do all things through" who "Christ" 12:18 do what "strengthens me." 12:20 It's not your strength, you can't do on your own. 12:22 So when you find, there is the battle going on that 12:25 you're remembering all the old things 12:27 and you want to do the old things is 12:29 because you haven't really yielded. 12:32 And unless you die the death of Christ, 12:34 you can't live the life of Christ. 12:37 I want you to say that with me. 12:38 "Unless you die the" what "death of Christ, 12:41 you can't live the life of Christ." 12:44 Before Jesus began His ministry, He was baptized. 12:48 Lot of people say, He was baptized 12:50 to leave us an example. 12:52 That's true, but He did what we must do 12:55 in order for us to enter into 12:56 the receiving of the power 12:57 that was available through the Holy Spirit. 12:59 When Jesus was baptized, the Bible says in Matthew 3, 13:02 the Holy Spirit descended in the form of a dove, 13:05 enlighten upon him in the very same way. 13:07 When we're baptized 13:09 and we give our lives to Christ, 13:10 the Holy Spirit descends on us. 13:12 We don't walk just by truth. 13:15 We serve the Lord in what and truth. 13:17 In spirit and in truth. 13:19 "We walk by faith but we serve the Lord" 13:21 in what, "spirit," as well as in what, "truth." 13:24 The spirit comes into our lives 13:26 and makes the difference. 13:28 Because baptism is not a second chance to do 13:32 we could not do the first time. 13:34 Giving our lives to Christ is not saying, 13:36 okay this time around I think I got it, 13:39 that's not what it is. 13:41 You see Paul when he walked 13:43 into this new relationship with Christ, 13:45 he realized that there is a battle going on. 13:47 Go with me to Romans Chapter 7. 13:49 Romans Chapter 7, all right. 13:51 Want you to see this, this is the first passage 13:54 in this lesson but I want to-- I want to 13:57 show you the transition, the transition. 14:00 Paul realized that there was a battle going on 14:02 on and he talked about this in Romans 7, verse 24 and 25. 14:06 All right, notice what he said. 14:09 What are the first two words, two words? 14:12 "O wretched" next one "man that I am. 14:16 Who will deliver me from this body of death?" 14:19 Now I want you to notice verse 25. 14:21 Before he ended in total discouragement, 14:24 he came up with something thank God for. 14:27 Notice what he did, all right. 14:28 And this is what you've to do. 14:29 You can't get totally discouraged, you've to say, 14:31 okay Lord, I know I'm not where 14:33 I used to be even though I'm not where I need to be. 14:37 So Paul the Apostle recognized 14:39 and the Lord gave him this inspiration. 14:42 He says "I thank God" notice the two challenges here 14:46 "through Jesus Christ our Lord. 14:48 So then with the" what " with the mind 14:52 I myself serve the law of God, 14:55 but with the flesh" what did he say "the law of sin." 14:59 What I want you to get here is the body-- 15:05 well, I'm jumping ahead of myself 15:06 but I'll emphasize this in the scripture. 15:08 The body of sin is down away with. 15:12 Now what body is that? 15:14 Let me ask you the question, we're gonna dig this out. 15:15 Do you still have your body? 15:16 Yes or no. Yes. 15:18 Okay, you're not walking around 15:19 in a ethereal vapor right, we still have our bodies. 15:22 So what body of sin was done away with? Old man. 15:28 Now what's that old man's name? 15:30 Flesh. Flesh? 15:31 What's his real name? Adam. 15:33 Adam, say with me, what name? Adam. 15:36 We were children of the first Adam up until that point. 15:39 And when we accepted Christ now 15:40 He adopted us and we're children of the last Adam. 15:44 There are no more Adams after Christ. 15:47 The first one is the flesh, the second one is the spirit. 15:50 God is spirit. 15:52 Those who worship Him, as worship Him in what? 15:54 Spirit and in truth. 15:55 And so what happens here, when you accept Christ 15:59 along with your faith profession, 16:01 there is something else that has to happen, 16:03 that has to happen in this body. 16:06 Romans 8 and verse 1. Look at this. 16:10 Romans 8 and verse 1. What happens? 16:16 "There is therefore" when " now no condemnation 16:21 to those who are in Christ Jesus." 16:25 And here is the point. 16:27 "Who do not walk according to the" what "Flesh, 16:30 but according to the" what "Spirit." 16:32 Okay, this is something that strange about Christianity. 16:35 Christianity is not just a religion of a saint 16:39 or religion of permission. 16:40 Christianity is a religion of how you walk. 16:45 Right, how you walk. 16:47 Many years ago I remember this song, 16:51 hope I don't take you back. 16:53 But there was a song years go a secular song called 16:55 "Walk like an Egyptian." Anybody remember that? 16:58 And they would, you know, they go like this 17:00 and walk like an Egyptian. 17:02 You can't walk like an Egyptian 17:03 when you become a spiritual Jew. 17:06 You've to walk like you're in Christ, 17:08 because you're if any man is where, in Christ. 17:12 He is a new creation. 17:13 So but the difference is how you walk. Why is that? 17:16 Look at the verses that follow this. 17:18 I'm gonna go down to-- we're in Romans 8. 17:20 Want to break this down 17:21 because it's so vitally important, all right. 17:25 Look at verse, verse 5. 17:29 "For those who live according to the flesh 17:32 set their minds on the things of the" what "flesh, 17:35 but those who live according to the Spirit 17:38 the things of the Spirit. 17:40 For to be carnally minded is" what "death, 17:44 but to be spiritually minded is" what "life and peace." 17:49 Because in all these verse--matter of fact 17:52 almost every verse up to verse 10 17:54 shows you the dual battle. 17:56 What it is, what it should be, all right. 17:58 Here it is verse 7. 18:00 "Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, 18:04 for it is not subject to the law of God, 18:06 nor indeed can be." 18:08 You know, what that means? 18:09 This is the fleshy body. 18:10 Right now if you wake up in the morning 18:12 and don't pray and don't say Lord, 18:13 take control of my mind and my heart and my life. 18:15 If you don't submit yourself to Christ 18:17 that natural body, that natural mind 18:19 is gonna do what it does naturally. 18:24 And it's eithe more of a challenge 18:25 for those who just become Christians, 18:27 because you've not yet come to the place 18:29 where you practice righteousness. 18:31 What do they say about practice? 18:32 Practice makes, what? 18:34 Perfect. That's not true. 18:36 Practice makes you better than you're before. 18:38 But you're not a good Christian 18:40 just because you practiced to be a good Christian. 18:42 You're a Christian, 18:43 because Christ is residing in your life. 18:45 That's what makes the difference, 18:46 it's not just good behavior or modification. 18:49 Well, let's keep going. 18:50 I want to get down to particular verse here 18:51 before we switch to the next question. 18:53 It says in verse 8. 18:56 "So then those who are in the flesh" 18:59 cannot do what "cannot please God." 19:01 That's why it's important for this old man to die. 19:05 Going down to the next verse, verse 9. 19:07 "But you are not in the flesh." 19:09 Somebody say amen to that. Amen. 19:11 When you give your life to Christ 19:12 "you're not in the flesh but in the Spirit" 19:16 and here is the key "if" what's the next word 19:18 "if indeed the Spirit of God dwells" where "in you. 19:26 Now if any one does not have the Spirit of Christ, 19:30 he is not his. 19:32 And if Christ is in you, 19:35 the body is" what " dead because of sin, 19:40 but the Spirit is life because of righteousness." 19:43 Amen. Amen. 19:45 So let me break all that down for you. 19:46 There is lot of times you read a text 19:48 and say well that's sounds, I've heard that before, 19:49 let me tell you what that means. 19:51 It says this body that we've to deal with now 19:54 we've to consider this nature that 19:56 Adam had reigning over us. 19:58 We've to consider that nature to be dead. 20:01 So here's what we say in the morning when I wake up. 20:03 You know, John wh you were before, 20:04 you're no longer that person any longer. 20:06 You now belong to Christ. 20:08 Today I must make my mind up 20:10 and as we're told inspiration tells us. 20:12 Matter of fact, Ellen White, tells us. 20:13 She says, one of the very first things 20:15 we've to do in the morning is surrender 20:17 or dedicate ourselves to Christ. 20:19 Lord, take my thoughts, my plans, my day, 20:22 because if you-- if you begin the day 20:25 without submitting yourself to the molding influence 20:28 of the God Spirit, then you're gonna 20:30 go in a wrong direction. 20:31 And you'll find that the reason 20:33 why you have fallen during the day is 20:35 because you've not invited Christ 20:36 to come in again today. 20:37 So how often do ou have to die? 20:39 Daily. Every single day. 20:40 Now somebody tell me, why do you've to die everyday? 20:45 I'm gonna let you answer me? 20:46 Why do you've to die everyday, somebody tell me? 20:50 Sin is always present. Because sin is always present. 20:53 Yes, that's right, but I'm looking for another reason. 20:56 Why do you've to die everyday? Okay, say little louder. 21:00 We still have our natural body. 21:02 We still have our natural body. 21:05 How to live a spiritual life in a what? Natural body. 21:08 We've got to keep this body under the control 21:12 and the molding influence of the Spirit of God, 21:15 because as we do so, you know, what he does. 21:17 He begins to tear down the strong holes. 21:19 Have you ever seen a construction site? 21:21 Ever seen a construction site? 21:24 We were in St. Louis last week 21:26 and my wife showed me a building 21:29 and I didn't even know that 21:30 there was a new building in that spot. 21:32 She said, look at the building, 21:33 look on the floor, look in the lobby no signs, nothing. 21:37 Look at all the rooms nothing is functioning yet, 21:39 this is a brand new building. 21:41 You know, the building was so spanking new. 21:43 There was no evidences of an old building. 21:45 The sidewalk was new, I didn't even catch it, 21:48 until about an hour later when 21:49 she said now do you see it? 21:51 Because I looked across the street 21:52 and saw the old buildings and I realized that was new. 21:56 Here's my point, as you compare the new with the old 22:00 then you understand the difference 22:02 between the new and the old. 22:06 As you compare how you live your life 22:07 now to how you used to live it, 22:10 then you understand that all things are new in Christ. 22:14 Not just our spiritual commitment to Christ, 22:16 not just our new walk with Christ, 22:17 but all things are new. 22:19 Look at the next question. Question number 5. 22:22 Question number 5. 22:24 How does the Bible explain the ceremony of baptism? 22:29 How does it explain the ceremony of baptism? 22:34 Okay, Romans 6 and verse 6. Let's look at this. 22:41 It says "Knowing this, that our" what man "old man 22:47 was crucified with Him, that the body of sin 22:51 might be" what " done away with, 22:53 that we should no longer be" what "slaves to sin." 22:58 What that in essence is saying in order for us 23:00 to be freed from slavery 23:02 somebody has to die. 23:04 Who has to die? Jesus. 23:06 Ah, I heard it, the old man. 23:09 Well, Jesus did die but that's not what has to happen 23:12 in order for us everyday to be saved from sin. 23:15 What has to happen is the old man has to die. 23:19 Because the old man is gonna hold 23:21 onto us until we break-- until we break the chains. 23:23 As a matter of fact I want to see- 23:28 I'm gonna jump ahead of myself little bit here 23:29 but it's very important. 23:31 The old man has to die. Now here is the point. 23:33 Can you, if the chains are still linked to you, 23:37 are you considered free. 23:39 Yes or no? No. 23:40 So in order for those chains to be let lose, 23:44 the old man is not going to negotiate with you. 23:47 Yannick, you're now gonna get up and then say 23:48 "Satan could you just let me go. 23:51 " Is he gonna say, yes? 23:53 No. Forget it. 23:55 Let you go that's not my-- that's not who I'm. 23:57 My job is to keep you bound, right. 24:00 So in order for you to be set free 24:02 what has to happen to him. 24:05 He has got to be put to death. 24:06 So now because of the fall of Adam that 24:08 nature that holds us is the nature that 24:11 Adam received that fallen nature, 24:13 that's the nature that is in control. 24:15 As long as that nature is in control, 24:17 we're not free to serve the Lord. 24:20 Look at Romans 7. 24:22 We're not free to serve the Lord. 24:23 We gonna talk, this is-- this is all about deliverance. 24:26 How many want to be delivered, say amen. Amen. 24:28 We all want to be delivered. 24:29 Now, Paul the Apostle, uses a beautiful story, 24:32 a wonderful illustration here 24:34 and he uses this in a context of a husband and wife. 24:39 All right, I remember preaching the sermon many years ago 24:41 and 3ABN made me changed my title. 24:44 The title of the sermon was "Kill your husband" 24:46 and they said that's not a good title. 24:49 And I said, okay, I'll change it to 24:51 "Till death do us apart" 24:53 that sounds little more cozier, right. 24:55 Till what do us part, now notice this. 24:57 Romans 7 and verse 2, all right. 25:04 You got to think of this in the context of the old and new. 25:09 "For the women who has a husband 25:12 is what's the next word. 25:15 "Bound by the law to her husband" 25:18 as what "as long as he lives." 25:22 But if the husband dies 25:24 she is released from the law of her husband, all right. 25:29 Now I want to do this very briefly. 25:31 I'll break this down in little detail here. 25:35 When Eve sinned. When who sinned? Eve. 25:40 When Eve sinned, there was a change in what 25:45 God intended for the relationship 25:47 between her and Adam. 25:49 There was a change. 25:51 God gave Adam the authority over Eve. 25:56 Go with me to Genesis 3. 25:59 Because a lot of times you see 26:00 the law of her husband and you wonder, 26:03 what law of her husband is that talking about. 26:06 This is a deep topic. 26:10 Genesis Chapter 3 and we're going to look at verse 16. 26:18 Okay, you may remember Paul also said that 26:21 there is another law that brings him 26:23 into subjection to sin, this law of sin and death. 26:27 We'll show what that is also. 26:29 Okay, look at Genesis Chapter 3 and verse 16. 26:33 To the woman he said, "I will greatly multiply 26:36 your sorrow and your conception. 26:38 In pain you shall bring forth children." 26:41 Now here is the law of her husband. 26:44 "Your desire shall be for your husband, 26:48 and he shall" do what "rule over you." 26:52 So let me ask you the question. 26:53 Who is ruling the woman as long as he lives? 26:57 Who is ruling? The husband 26:59 Now in this context you're gonna see 27:01 the Lord uses a wonderful illustration here 27:03 to use the husband to represent the old nature 27:09 and the woman is the subject. 27:11 The woman in this story represents us. 27:13 So as long as that husband is alive he is ruling. 27:16 Say that again, he is ruling. 27:19 That's why it's impossible to do right 27:23 until that old nature that has the whole of you 27:27 is put to death because the husband is in charge. 27:32 Are you getting it? Yes. 27:34 So that old nature is in charge. 27:36 So if you wake up in the morning say, 27:37 I want to be a Christian today and I've been baptized 27:40 but I want to be Christian today. 27:43 That nature is still in control 27:45 until that nature is put to death. Let'sgo on. 27:54 Verse 3, "So then if while her husband lives 27:58 she marries another man, 28:01 she will be called an adulteress. 28:03 But if her husband dies she is free from the law, 28:07 from that law so that she is no adulteress 28:10 though she has married another man." 28:12 This is very powerful. 28:14 So what happens to make her free? 28:16 Her husband dies. 28:18 And when her husband dies 28:20 she is free from what law? 28:23 From his law, right. 28:24 In other words, he no longer rules over her. 28:26 Lot of people read that and think that 28:27 when the husband dies we're now free from the law of God. 28:30 That's not what its saying. 28:32 That law of sin that controlled us 28:34 is now put to death. 28:35 If you catch that, that would have been 28:37 a perfect amen right there. 28:39 Let me tell you why I say that. 28:41 Many--we all want to be free. 28:43 Tell me the truth. Amen. We all want a change, right. 28:46 But that change only happens when that nature 28:48 that was in control think of this as a pit bull 28:51 in the back yard that every chance he gets, 28:55 he wants to bite you. 28:59 And because that's its nature, 29:01 he is not gonna ever not want to bite you. 29:06 He is gonna want to hold you and rip you apart. 29:09 He is not gonna want to compromise, 29:11 he is not gonna want to talk about it, 29:13 he'd just snarl and grove and just wished 29:16 to get a hold of you. 29:17 That's not even as bad as our old nature, 29:20 because the old nature is not waiting in the backyard, 29:22 the old nature is right here with us every day 29:24 until we put that nature to death. 29:26 Look at the rest of this, okay. 29:29 Look at the rest of this. 29:31 Look at verse 4. Verse 4, Romans 7, verse 4. 29:35 Therefore, my brethren, this is beautiful. 29:40 "Therefore, my brethren, you also had become dead 29:44 to the Law through the body of Christ, 29:47 that you may be married to another, 29:50 even to Him who was raised from the dead, 29:55 that we should bear fruit to God. 29:58 For when we were in the flesh, 30:00 the passions of sin, which were aroused by the law, 30:06 were at work in our members, to bear fruit. 30:09 But now we have been, what's the next word? 30:13 Delivered from the law having died 30:15 to what we were held by. 30:18 So that we should serve in the newness of spirit, 30:21 and not in the oldness of the letter. 30:23 That's very powerful right there. 30:24 What Paul is saying here, is once that old nature dies, 30:28 it does not have any control over us and here is the key. 30:30 Now ladies, this is a lady question. 30:33 Well, this is a ladies question if you have children. 30:37 Well, I'll make it general, okay, 30:40 so that you won't feel left out. 30:42 What usually happens when a woman gets married? 30:46 She has children, right. 30:50 Now what is that being said here is 30:52 until she is married to the new man, 30:57 her children won't represent the new man. 31:00 Let me break it even further down 31:01 until we marry to Christ, 31:03 our fruits will not represent Christ. 31:07 Until we are married to Jesus, 31:10 the things that show up in our lives 31:11 won't be linked to Christ. 31:15 So, in order for the righteous deeds to show up 31:18 in our lives to whom must we be married. 31:22 To Christ, it's not that deep. 31:23 This is very shallow, but this is deep still. 31:26 In order for righteous deeds to show up in our lives, 31:29 we've to be married to the only one 31:30 that can bring forth those fruits. 31:32 The fruits of righteousness, does not come from 31:35 the old tree, it comes from the new. 31:38 Go with me to Matthew 7, 31:40 so many doors are opening here for me tonight. 31:43 I want you to catch this before we go to the next one. 31:45 Romans, sorry, Matthew. Matthew, 31:50 that's the first book in the New Testament. 31:54 And here is the reason why? 31:56 You see it's not possible to do good things in the old nature. 32:00 You may hang around people 32:02 that are Christians and want to be a Christian, 32:05 but until that old nature is no longer holding you, 32:08 it's not possible to bring forth 32:09 a fruit that represent Christ. 32:11 There's a law. 32:13 That law that Paul was talking about, 32:15 here's the law, he was talking about. 32:18 Matthew 7 and verse 18. 32:22 Oh let's start verse 17. 32:28 "Even so every good tree bears," what brethren? 32:32 "Good fruit, but a bad tree bears" what? "Bad fruit." 32:36 So, a good tree cannot bear a bad fruit, 32:39 nor can a bad tree bear what? Good fruit. 32:43 Every tree that does not bear 32:45 good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the what? Fire. 32:47 That's what gonna happen to those 32:49 who are not in Christ. 32:50 That's why there is a lake of fire, 32:51 because they are not connected to the one 32:54 to bring forth good fruit, 32:55 so what happens to them at the end, 32:58 they are thrown in the fire. 33:00 You do not get good fruits from bad trees, 33:02 but you cannot get bad fruit from good trees. 33:06 So, here is the key, if you are in Christ, 33:08 you are good or bad. Good. 33:11 I shouldn't do this my ears already big, 33:13 if you're in Christ you're good or bad. You're good. 33:15 So what happens if you're 33:16 connected to the man that's good, 33:18 what happens to your fruits, they're what? Good. 33:20 Can you bring forth Christ fruits 33:22 without being connected to Christ? 33:24 Can you act like a child of Christ? Yes. 33:29 You can act like a child of Christ. 33:31 But, if you're connected to the tree 33:33 that's righteous it comes forth without, 33:35 it comes forth without works on your part. 33:39 Because a good tree bears good fruit 33:41 and a bad tree bears bad fruit. 33:44 Want to make a point. 33:45 Okay, let's go on. 33:47 And that's why verse 20 always says, 33:49 "Therefore by their fruits," you'll what? 33:51 You'll know them. You'll know them. 33:52 You look at the world and you could tell, 33:53 it doesn't take a lot of signs to look at the people 33:56 in the world and say, what reason why 33:58 I just saw the terrible story in the news, 34:01 you know the news is most of the news is bad news, isn't it? 34:04 Just saw the story of this person 34:06 who just decided to take the lives of seven people 34:09 at a university somewhere, horrible. 34:12 And you ask, how could he do that? 34:15 In Oakland, California and you ask the question, 34:17 how could he do that? 34:18 Here's the answer a bad tree bears what kind of fruit? 34:22 Bad fruit. Bad fruit. 34:23 Now let me go a step further, 34:24 because some of you have relatives 34:26 that hang around you a lot, 34:27 and you know, what you say to your relatives. 34:29 Why don't you do right? 34:31 Now they see you do right and you tell them to do right, 34:35 but understand the principle here, 34:37 unless there's a good tree that 34:38 they're connected too, they cannot bear good fruit. 34:42 But the good news is 34:43 when we are connected to the good tree, 34:44 which is Christ we cannot bear a bad fruit, amen. Amen. 34:47 So how do we become good? 34:50 By connected to Christ, go back if anyone is in Christ, 34:54 see as they're what? New creation. 34:56 Even the fruit are new, right. 35:00 What kind of fruit? Go with me to Galatians. 35:03 So you guys are making me dig today, 35:06 I want you to get this because this has to sink in. 35:10 Has to sink in. 35:13 Okay, Galatians 5, remember 35:16 if you walk in the flesh you cannot please God, 35:20 so you have to walk in the what? 35:22 Spirit, okay, get this now. 35:23 This is powerful. 35:24 You got to walk on the spirit. 35:26 Okay now. Galatians 5 and verse 16. 35:39 You want to be victorious everyday, 35:41 here is how you do it. 35:42 Verse 16, I say then, what's the next four words? 35:46 Walk in the Spirit, and you shall 35:51 not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 35:54 How can you be victorious everyday brethren? 35:56 Walk on the spirit. 35:57 How can you be victorious everyday brethren? 35:59 Walk in-- in the spirit. 36:03 If any man is "in Christ" that's the key. 36:07 Now walk anyway I want to modify that. 36:11 Got to walk in the spirit and you won't 36:13 fulfil the lust of the flesh. 36:14 Now get this, this is powerful for 36:17 the flesh lusts against the spirit. 36:21 Have you felt the battle 36:23 and the spirit against the flesh? 36:25 And these are contrary to one another, 36:30 so that you do not do the things that you wish. 36:33 Come on somebody confess yet, isn't that true? 36:35 When you fall flat on your face, 36:37 you realize wait a minute. 36:38 I know exactly what happened today. 36:40 Today, I did not submit myself to Christ 36:42 I started walk in the flesh 36:43 and the spirit didn't let me down. 36:46 The flesh let me down. 36:47 The spirit does not let us down. 36:48 Amen. Let's go on. 36:50 That's why says in verse 18, "But if you're 36:54 led by the Spirit, you are not under the what? 36:58 Law. Under the law. 36:59 People read that and say, you see, 37:00 I don't have to keep God's commandments. 37:02 You know that means, if you're led by the spirit 37:04 you're not under the condemnation. 37:06 You know what, because you haven't done anything wrong? 37:09 Do you run and hide when the police drive by? 37:11 I hope not, because if you 37:15 do you know you've done something wrong. 37:16 You know that you're guilty of something, 37:19 therefore you're hiding 37:20 from the results of the consequences. 37:22 But, if you're living, 37:23 if you're law abiding Christian. 37:27 What kind of Christian? Law abiding. 37:28 Law abide, which you can 37:29 only keep the law through Christ. 37:31 If you're a Christian that lives in 37:33 a harmony with the law, the Bible makes it 37:35 very, very clear then you're not under the law. 37:38 You're not under its condemnation. 37:40 But now notice the contrast, before we get to 37:42 the fruit of the spirit, notice the contrast, 37:44 but how some of us used to be? 37:47 I should have said, how all of us used to be? 37:49 Look at verse 19, 37:51 now the works of the flesh are evident. 37:53 This is all this, this is just 37:55 a composed, condense list. 37:57 Now the works of the flesh are evident, 38:00 which are together adultery, fornication, uncleanness, 38:05 lasciviousness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, 38:10 contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, 38:15 selfish ambition, dissention, harasses, 38:18 are you yell and stop already. 38:20 Let's keep go on verse 21, envy, murders, drunkenness, 38:25 revelries, and the like of which I tell you 38:28 beforehand just as I also told you in time past 38:32 that those who practice such things will not what? 38:36 Inherit the kingdom of God. 38:38 Now my aim is to be in the kingdom of God. 38:39 Is that your aim? Yes. 38:41 So, how do you do that? 38:42 You got to learn how to walk in the spirit, 38:44 because it's not natural, it is not easy. 38:46 You see the reason why, it's a day-by-day, 38:48 it's a day-by-day commitment need 38:49 is because we still have this natural body. 38:51 I'm gonna not forget to say that. 38:53 How to live a spiritual life in a what? 38:56 Natural body. That's the battle. 38:58 The spirit are committed with the Christ 39:01 was against the flesh. 39:02 The flesh is aah, I want to 39:03 go back the way I was before. 39:05 But here is the key, the more you submit yourself 39:08 to Christ and he continues to put to death 39:10 the deeds of the flesh, it gets to the point 39:13 where now the flesh is so pulverized. 39:16 That those temptations that used to be strong 39:19 when you first committed to Christ are not even 39:22 a temptation any longer. Amen. 39:23 How many of you experience that 39:26 when you first come to Christ. 39:28 Yeah, just a smell of a cigarette 39:31 want to throw you back, right. 39:33 Some, some people that is, sometimes people walk pass 39:36 the bar, and somebody walk, 39:37 the devil always sets it up that. 39:39 Somebody opens the door, as you all pass the bar 39:42 and you smell all the alcohol 39:44 come out and people go, aaah. 39:46 People have told me those stories. 39:49 And then sometimes the person drives by a club 39:51 or hear a song that they give their life to Christ 39:53 and he gave up that music a week ago and 39:55 he hear that music in all of a sudden the nerves, 39:57 the body wants to naturally move. 39:59 But as you put to deed, as you put to death, 40:02 everyday the natural inclinations, it gets to 40:06 the place where you have victory, in Jesus. 40:13 Where you have victory, in Jesus. 40:17 Now let's go to the next one. 40:18 Verse 22, see the fruit of the spirit we got to see 40:24 that now because we saw the horrible things, 40:26 got to see something good, right. 40:28 This is what happens when the Lord comes in your life. 40:30 When the Bible says, the fruit he brings forth 40:33 fruit now she can produce fruit, 40:34 this is the fruit he's talking about. 40:36 This is not the fruit that 40:38 shows up in an evil person's life. 40:42 But the fruit of the spirit is together love, joy, 40:47 peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, 40:51 faithfulness, gentleness, self control against such, 40:56 there is no law and those who are Christ's 41:00 have crucified the flesh with 41:03 it's passions and desires. 41:04 If we live in the spirit let us also do what brethren? 41:08 Walk in the spirit. 41:11 And then it also says, let us become, 41:13 let us not become conceited provoking 41:15 one another and bringing one another. 41:18 But notice the key there, the same thing that 41:20 Paul says in Romans 8 verse 1, there's therefore 41:23 now no condemnation to those who are in Christ, 41:26 who walk not according to the flesh, 41:28 but according to the spirit. 41:30 If you want to find out, which one you're in 41:32 just look at the list. 41:35 Those are the things verse 19 to verse 20, 41:39 those are the things that want to come back 41:40 into your life everyday. 41:42 They want to fight for the mastery. 41:44 Now what question all we have to. 41:45 Question number seven, is that where we are? 41:48 Question number six actually, 41:49 question number six. 41:50 We're moving as fast as we could. 41:52 Question number six, "What happens when 41:54 the old man of sin is put to death?" 41:56 What happens when the old man of sin is put to death? 42:00 We're looking at Roman 6 and verse 7.Okay. 42:05 Roman 6 and verse 7. 42:09 The screen says it very carefully. 42:11 "For he who has died has been" what? 42:15 "Freed form sin." 42:17 I've seen programs where people get free from prison. 42:23 When they get out, they are not sad. 42:26 At least most of them are not. 42:32 But sometimes I've seen this part, 42:34 they walk away gingerly, like is this for real? 42:38 Am I really free? 42:40 I mean, is this, am I really free? 42:42 And the further way you get, am I too, 42:44 the further way you get all the sudden the more free 42:46 your freedom feels. I'm actually free. 42:49 I'm really free. And that's how it is. 42:52 You know when you, when the Lord delivers you, 42:55 when that old nature is put to death, you walk away from 42:58 it and you think, am I really free? 42:59 Am I really? 43:01 And you know, when you know you're free 43:02 when those temptations rise up and they 43:04 don't even get your attention. 43:09 When those temptations, those things that held to 43:11 sway with you rise up and 43:13 they don't even get your notice. 43:15 That's how you know. 43:17 And you know how that happens? 43:18 We're gonna talk about that. 43:19 The next topic after this as a matter of fact is alive. 43:22 We talked about justification, we talked 43:24 about how to be justified, now how to be delivered? 43:27 The next topic is alive in Christ. 43:30 How to be alive? 43:31 See we talked about death already, right. 43:33 We're gonna talk about life next. 43:35 We get in close there, but as you grow in Christ, 43:38 you'll discover that those things that held you 43:39 and bound you are not even a test any longer. 43:42 That's how you know you've been delivered. 43:44 But you don't go back. 43:46 You don't go back to the bar, 43:47 and back to the clubs, and back to the things 43:49 before to see if you really got delivered. 43:50 You stay as far as the east is from the west. 43:54 Look at question number seven. 43:56 Question number seven, how does the Bible 44:00 explain the transaction of baptism? 44:02 It's some way of a transaction. 44:04 All right, You know this transaction shows us 44:09 where we were and then where we are. 44:12 Where we used to be and then where we have entered. 44:15 The relationship we once had 44:17 and the relationship we now have. 44:20 Romans 6 and verse 5, reads as follows. 44:24 "For if we have been united together in the 44:28 likeness of His death" What's the next word? 44:32 "Certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His" 44:35 what? "Resurrection." 44:37 Come on, aren't you glad 44:38 that word certainly is there? 44:39 You got that's the faith. 44:42 You got to accept that by faith. 44:43 Because if he say well, you know, I'm born again and 44:48 somebody ask are you really born again. 44:50 How are you born again? 44:51 You know what, I'm just like Christ. 44:54 You can say that. 44:57 Some of the most discouraged Christians 44:59 are those who don't know 45:01 that the word certainly is there. 45:03 The Lord begins to work in your life and then 45:07 all of a sudden you begin to not only walk by faith, 45:11 and accept the likeness of His resurrection. 45:15 Well, as time, as time progresses you began 45:18 to just live out with fullness, abundance, 45:21 knowing that the likeness of His resurrection 45:24 is your daily experience. 45:26 We don't want to experience Christ 45:28 one day a week, do we? 45:29 Not just when we come to church, 45:31 we want that walk with Christ everyday. 45:33 We want that freedom everyday. 45:35 We want to be like Jesus everyday, 45:37 but it doesn't happen if we just simply say, 45:40 you know, and I really blew it this week, 45:41 if you blew it the Lord will accept you back. 45:43 But what Christ intends for us to have is 45:47 that day-by-day victorious walk in Him. 45:50 How to be delivered? 45:51 Not just at baptism, but everyday. 45:53 All right, Now this question, 45:56 question number eight. 45:57 We're gonna read verses 22 to 24, 46:01 but let me read the question first. 46:02 How does the Bible explain our 46:05 "before Christ" and "after Christ" life? 46:09 Before Christ and after Christ life. 46:16 My wife and I sometimes we've conversations and I 46:19 periodically reveal to her a lot of things about my past. 46:24 When I see my past not just before we got married, 46:26 but many, many years ago, you know, when I was 46:28 little boy and she would say to me, I never knew that. 46:30 More specifically I say to her, you know, 46:34 when I was growing up, I had baseball cards, 46:37 I collected baseball cards. 46:38 And I'd say to my wife, if I still have those 46:40 baseball cards today,I know they'll be worth something. 46:44 But my father used to throw away 46:45 my baseball cards, because they took up 46:47 more of my attention than he intended then he wanted 46:50 them to take and I think of all 46:53 the things I used to have when I was a little boy 46:55 that I don't have any longer, and I always wonder 46:58 what would have happened to such and such. 47:00 I never gave that shirt away. 47:01 What have happened to it? I never gave that. 47:03 What have happened to it? 47:04 What have happened to my baseball glove? 47:06 You'll discover that when you-- follow me carefully, 47:10 there's a purpose to this story. 47:14 When you come into Christ, the things that you had 47:17 before you've to make a conscious decision 47:20 to put them away. 47:23 They just don't go away, right. 47:25 My records that I had when I was a disc jockey, 47:28 didn't leave, I got rid of those, right. 47:31 The things that held you, you got it 47:33 you've to clean your environment. 47:35 Because if you don't clean your environment, 47:37 there will be there to wake you up in the morning. 47:40 A guy, I think I share this story, 47:42 but if I haven't be bear with me, 47:44 if you heard it before well, let me finish it. 47:47 I pray for guy who wants to be delivered. 47:48 We anointed the guy and we want to 47:50 deliver him from smoking. 47:51 And after we pray the prayer, I said okay, 47:53 you've any cigarettes left. 47:54 He said, I've one pack in the truck. 47:56 I said go get it. He said, but that's my last pack. 47:59 I said, we just anointed him, 48:01 you want to hold on to the last pack of cigarettes. 48:04 So when you drive away from the church, 48:07 your cigarettes are waiting for you in the vehicle. 48:09 Brother everything that was against the flesh, 48:12 you got to get rid off. 48:13 Come on and say amen to that. 48:15 That's what it means to be delivered. 48:17 The Lord doesn't just deliver you and say go 48:19 back to the hall, go back to that simple environment. 48:22 He wants your environment to be cleansed. 48:25 How will you think like Christ. 48:28 If your environment influence you 48:30 a different way all together. 48:32 If the things you read and watch and the places 48:35 you go and the things you do all remind you of their 48:38 formal life, how will you get victory in Christ. 48:41 Now notice this, verypowerful Ephesians 48:44 Chapter 4, we'll break this down, 48:46 you notice on your paper, there are three lines, 48:48 we want to break this down verse by verse. 48:50 The first thing we're gonna discover about 48:51 the before and after life is this. 48:53 Ephesians 4 verse 22, it says, 48:56 "That you" what's the next word? 48:58 "Put off concerning your former conduct, 49:03 the old man, which grows corrupt 49:06 according to the deceitful lusts." 49:08 Don't go to the next scripture yet. 49:10 You got to put off what? 49:13 You got to put off concerning your former conduct. 49:16 How did you live before? 49:17 You got to put that off. 49:19 Lot of people want to be Christians. 49:21 You know, what bothers me nowadays 49:22 about Christianity in the lot of sense, 49:24 a lot of churches teach Christianity, 49:26 but I've discovered as a person that likes music. 49:31 There's some denominations that you can attend church 49:34 and you can still be a night club singer. 49:37 You can still sing for the world. 49:40 You can still live for the world 49:41 and just go to the church on the weekend 49:43 and just have a good time. 49:45 And you know, what is missing there, 49:47 the old, the former conduct has not been put off. 49:51 So what happens is, its just waiting around 49:53 and so what happens is in the river, 49:57 on the bank, in the river, on the bank, 49:58 in the river, on the bank, and Jesus may come in 50:00 you'll be in the row. 50:01 You know, what the problem with that is, 50:03 you never experience the abundant life in Christ 50:05 and the trend of your life is so wishy-washy. 50:07 The Bible says in the book of James, 50:10 a double minded man is unstable in all his ways. 50:13 So you never become stable 50:14 because you're living two lives. 50:16 The old man is still alive, 50:18 although you profess to be married to the new man. 50:22 And if you remember Roman 7, 50:24 what's even worse than saying 50:28 you're married to the new man 50:29 is being married to the new man, 50:31 but your children or your fruits look like the old man. 50:35 Did you get that? 50:37 So you say, I'm a Christian, 50:38 but somebody says well, 50:39 if you're a Christian why you're doing that? 50:43 See there, I'm telling my real deliverance here, 50:45 if you're Christian why you're going there? 50:48 If you're Christian, 50:49 what's that got to do with you being a Christian? 50:53 Don't you think that if you do 50:54 that it's gonna fight against your Christianity 50:58 and you've got to recognize. 50:59 That's why it says put off, 51:00 what's the two words "put off." 51:02 Now let's go to the next one. 51:04 First you got to put off, 51:06 put off the former conduct. 51:08 And you know why and this is the key, 51:09 because it grows corrupt. 51:10 A grow is what? 51:12 A grow is more and more rocking. 51:14 That's the word I want to use. 51:15 You had something in the closet that you didn't 51:17 know was rotten, until it started smelling. 51:22 What is that smell? 51:24 It doesn't, nothing grows good. 51:26 It grows rotten, 51:28 especially when it's the former conduct. 51:30 The next thing, so put off the old man. 51:32 The next one is verse 23, 51:35 "And be renewed how in the spirit of your mind." 51:42 You heard the phrase, you got to get a new attitude. 51:45 If you read the Bible, you'll have a new attitude. 51:51 This book let me recommend it to you. 51:53 This book put in this head, 51:58 you've heard that open mouth insert food, 52:01 open mind insert Bible. Okay. 52:06 How can you have the mind of Christ? 52:08 You know, what happens when you've the mind of Christ, 52:10 you live like Christ. 52:12 How do you get the mind of Christ? 52:15 Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. 52:19 Romans 12 verse 2, write that down. 52:22 Romans 12 verse 2, 52:23 "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind, 52:26 that you may prove what is that good 52:28 and acceptable and perfect will of God." 52:32 If you cannot have it, 52:34 if your mind is not renewed, 52:37 then the perfect will of God 52:38 is not gonna show up in your life. 52:39 You can't prove it, 52:40 because your life is in opposition 52:42 to what your profession is, all right. 52:44 So what we do here? 52:47 Put renewed in the spirit. 52:49 Be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 52:53 your mind, your mind. 52:55 What happens in your mind? 52:58 Think, I'm telling you the answer. 53:02 What happens in your mind? Think. 53:09 What happens in your mind? Think. 53:13 You think. See I'm saying think, 53:15 so you could say to me think. 53:18 We think with our mind 53:19 and as a man thinketh in is, so is he. 53:24 The reason why we do, 53:25 what we do is because our mind says do it. 53:28 If the word of God is in your mind, 53:30 oh man this is powerful. 53:32 If the word of God becomes the book 53:34 that controls the way you think. 53:38 Can you live in opposition to God? 53:42 So often we leave out this book. 53:44 It's a byproduct, it is our, 53:47 it is the battery in our flashlight. 53:49 It is the engine in our car, 53:51 it is the power in our generator. 53:54 It is the manual by which we live, 53:56 but unless we insert it 53:58 remember David in Psalms after he was delivered, 54:00 He said thy word have I done what? 54:03 Hid in my heart that I might not what? 54:05 Sin against thee. 54:06 And in the last one, verse 24. 54:09 First I'll put off 54:11 then be renewed in the spirit of the mind 54:13 and I like this one, verse 24, 54:15 "And that you put on the" what? 54:18 "New man," put off the old man verse 22, 54:22 be renewed in the spirit of your mind verse 23, 54:25 "And put on the new man, 54:26 which was created according to God, 54:29 in true righteousness and" what? 54:32 "Holiness." When you put on the new man 54:36 then all of a sudden what shows up righteousness 54:39 and what else holiness. 54:41 Isn't that wonderful, 54:44 each week I put on the different shirts. 54:45 Some people like bright colors, 54:48 but if I don't put it on you'll never see it. 54:50 I wear red, somebody says like red, so I put on orange, 54:53 somebody say I like orange. 54:54 It doesn't match anything else I'm wearing. 54:56 I just put it on so you could see it. 54:58 To illustrate tonight 54:59 that if you put it on it'll be seen. 55:01 If you put on the new man, you know, 55:04 what will be seen, righteousness 55:07 and what else holiness. 55:09 Because the new man was created according to God. 55:12 So anything that you put on that God created 55:16 is going to be seen. 55:17 Now I'm not gonna try to find the label on this shirt, 55:20 but somebody made it. 55:22 Now, if they didn't make it, 55:23 I couldn't put it on. 55:25 If holiness and righteousness was not available, 55:29 we couldn't put it on. 55:31 But holiness and righteousness is available, 55:33 therefore we can put it on. 55:35 -Amen. -Amen. 55:36 But do we put it on over the old man. 55:39 -No. -No, 55:40 we take off the old man. 55:43 I only have one shirt. 55:47 So consider this, I took up the old shirt, 55:50 I put on a new shirt. Amen. 55:52 Let's get one more in before we wind up tonight. 55:55 Romans Chapter 6 and verse 8, here it is. 56:00 How is the passion of Jesus revealed in the cross? 56:05 How is the passion of Jesus revealed in the cross? 56:08 I'm gonna go right to the answer on the screen. 56:10 How is the passion of Jesus revealed in the cross? 56:13 Roman 6 verse 8 reads as follows, 56:16 now this is beautiful brethren. 56:18 "Now if we died with Christ, 56:21 we believe that we shall also" do what? 56:24 "live with Him. 56:25 How many of you want to live with Jesus? 56:27 I know you're writing. 56:28 We all want to live with Jesus. 56:30 But what do we need to do to live with Jesus. 56:32 We've to do what? 56:34 Die with Him. 56:35 You see baptism is that whole thing. 56:39 Some people celebrate baptism other ways. 56:44 The new life is celebrated 56:46 through the ordinance of baptism. 56:48 When we're baptized we die with Christ. 56:53 When did Christ die? 56:55 Somebody tell me how long ago? 56:56 How long ago the Christ died? 56:58 More than 2000 years ago. 56:59 When we're into baptism, 57:00 we all of a sudden join Him on the cross. 57:02 When we put Him, when we go onto the water 57:04 we're in the tomb with Him, 57:06 when we come up on the other side 57:07 we come up to walk in the newness of the life. Amen. 57:10 That's how you'll be delivered. 57:12 And when you walk on the newness of life, 57:14 you're gonna still have this old body, 57:16 this mortal flesh, 57:18 so in order for that mortal 57:19 flesh not to have supremacy in your daily walk, 57:22 you got to put it to death everyday, 57:24 put off the old man accorded the former conduct 57:27 and put on the new man 57:29 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind 57:31 and the only way to be renewed is by giving 57:34 yourself a dose of the word of God everyday. 57:36 Brothers and sisters 57:38 and those of you watching the program, 57:39 everyone of us need to be delivered 57:41 and we can be delivered, 57:43 if we put ourselves in Christ. Amen. 57:45 And then get yourself a plan, 57:46 you can't be delivered without a plan. 57:49 If you've a plan, the plan will work. 57:51 You'll see righteousness and holiness 57:54 that is according to Christ. 57:55 If you want to see Christ in the way 57:56 that He intends to be seen, 57:58 give your life to Christ and then all of a sudden, 58:00 He will come into a sharper focus. 58:03 God bless you. Let us pray. |
